What happens when a dungeon keeper and an adventurer fall in love?

That is the short story of it all.

The long version is once upon a time a boyish orphan adventurer named Avis fell in love with a dungeon keeper named Nova. He confessed when he raided her dungeon and asked for a date upon seeing her beautiful appearance underneath the armor. Since she agreed to one request of his for sparing her she agreed.

Alas things were not meant to be so simple...as later on Avis and other adventurers whom he went to school with/grew up along side with targeted her dungeon. Avis soon found himself in a pickle when an unknown voice spoke up inside his head stating "If you really loved her you would save her' so Avis leaped to action. Betraying his comrades in the name of love...

This would haunt them especially knowing the fact that should it ever happen again...Avis knows he would do it again. That was how Avis met Vek the heart of Nova's dungeon. Who has it turned out pulled some light mental tricks on him and thus began their hate/love relationship.

Ever since then grew distant with his academy and friends but closer to his...admittedly quite evil lover. At the same time she helped supply, taught, and train her new young lover. Allowing Avis to learn such dangerous arts like Death Demon styles and dirty shadow fighting trickery. Admittedly quite frowned upon but given he is an adventurer they get quite bit more leeway then most.

Things moved rather quickly after a near death experience he lost his virginity and a few mere dungeon raids. As soon Avis found himself outright engaged but after that things seemed to slow down after that and Avis acquired some new quality gear.

Currently you are located in an empty glade...exhausted and lost again. You REALLY need to get better about getting lost. So far all you have in your possession is your gear, wagon, and mount. You forgot to resupply on food and you already drank what water you brought.

Honestly you cannot even remember why you decided to go out...probably because your dead broke again and if you sell the jewelry your fiance gave you she'll probably torture you. Your not very good with money...come to think of it your fiance was also needing some more troops ever since they got wiped out along with nearly both of you and shortly after that you lost your virginity...

That last part is a good memory. The rest not so much. Yeah you were thinking about some kind of evil druid...and you need money again.

What do?

If there is such a thing as SPEED LOOTING
then there must be such a thing as SPEED HUNTING

We kill monsters why speed looting why not animals?

Practice our SPEED HUNTING and start killing rabbits, feasants, deer, and other animals for food. And find a nearby river for water too.

Let's try sometihng else.

Use our Compass of Desires to point us to a large animal we can eat.

Sneak up on it under our cloak and then capture it with the capture chains, followed by a swift decapitation with the Seeker Halberd.

We can keep the head as a trophy!

Use our fire demon bound in the sinful scythe to roast the bear meat into jerky strips and store what we don't eat in the bag of holding.

Use the compass to find some water too.

This time you manage to successfully down a deer. You just barely managed it though as the cloak doesn't cover your scent and the capture chains barely managed to grab it before the deer managed to escape. After it was the simple use of the seeker halberd and scythe to roast up some meat.

Fortunately the compass also managed to guide you to a nearby creek for water.

Not to mention the compass doesn't tell you how far and you remember Nova mentioning that the nearest bandit druids were based in the monster marshes...which is frankly rather distant.

They tend to make a lot of enemies and aren't that popular so its not easy to find where they are based much less get to it.

Somehow you got lost...again.

This time and despite having a compass that points you the way.

...and literally now living there.

...Fuck you really REALLY suck at directions.

Note to self next time when you see your gf see about getting a guide or treasure that prevents you from getting lost...this is seriously getting ridiculous.

It would appear that the greatest danger to your adventuring is not the dangers you encounter...but your sheer inability to not get lost.

Come to think of maybe this is why you do so well in the labyrinth your ability to get lost so well completely fucks over its ability to make you lost...so it like cancels each other out?

Maybe you should test that hypothesis sometime...

Worst of all you have no idea where the fuck you even are...you don't see any landscapes markers either.

What do?

"you and getting lost, fine I'll show you the way back."

So big Boo started to guide you on the way and spoke to you on the way.

"You know kid you got some pretty bad timing. Boss is out working. Chasing down some lead that appears to be real important like. Here I am stuck recruiting a bunch of gangsters who don't know the woods...fuck I hate that shit. Not like its easy finding poachers and bandits, but damn do I get tired of their shit. Especially with us being close that damn adventuring city...no offense, but adventurers are bad fucking news for us bandits."

"So naturally tis important to find people who know a bit you know? Not just how to shank some drunken fool or smash them on the ol ead. Took forever to get half decent gang goin then those bastards had to show up and murder em all. Luckily i still got ol poacher Nisha...hadn't seen that one lately. Neither have you come to think of it. Think of Nisha as the ranged version of Big Boo. Nisha...well don't get on Nisha's bad side lest you get sniped in the night or 'accidentally' in the middle of a foight. Don't think your precious heavy armor will save you. Nisha is real fond like with heavy crossbows...trust me when I say I seen ol Nisha snipe a Knight three hundred paces away dark at night with it being cloudy and foggy...right through the eye socket. Seen plenty of real proud bastards thinken their 'eavy armor will save them from Nisha's bolts...it never does."

"Fucking Nisha man....I miss that bloke. Always had fresh grub available when Nisha was around. Nisha was real good like that..oh yeah I bet you don't know that your ol girlfriend is deadly magi instead ofa fighter?"

"Bascov only really started getting into foightan loike that when she er he got that fancy suit of armor. One of the biggest reasons we had such a noice gang was because our Bascov was a magi and a damn good one too!"

"REAL important for bandit recruitment purposes..."

Fucking hell does this guy ever shut up?

"Remember tis Bascov when da boss it out of the da dungeon. Otherwise she'll gut you strai- he will...or in your case a solid round of whipping followed a rapen. Hah...right also refer to da boss as a he outside da dungeon too. But yeah noticed you iz a martial talent right? Not real good when it comes to all that magic hubbub? Also noiticed you dabbling in da shadows...let me tell you kid you wanna learn to be roight proppah sneaky and backstabby come ol' Boo. When tis comes to fightan dirty us bandits are DA KINGS of dat shit."

"shame you ain't into magic...boss is real good at that shit...unless its holy. Boss sucks at that. Loike REALLY sucks...don't tell boss I said that tho. Funny how boss ended up finding away around it...sort of. Boss still can't do holy for da shit but can at least heal now. hah.

"Anyway you needs to be careful out ere in da dark...you ain't a sneakiez little bandit loike us. Lots of nasty shit go bump in the night...but us bandit we iz speshial!"
>>
>>573479
"Anyway I can talk to Nisha?"

I just. . .need to learn more of it. And sneakin."
>>
Rolled 38 (1d100)

>>573479
"As we sorta...came to a 'mutual understandin' with dem bumps. heh...why else you think we bandits is still a kicken eh? Despite all dat nasty shit out ere...especially at noight. If you stick around long enoughz I'll see bout teaching that to yah too! Boss will probably like that...and your adventurin friends even more!"

"That reminds tis important to make friends kid...especially for you adventurers! They got yo back yah know? yeah I know what you did...but that was for a good ol fashion true lov'in. You get a roight propah crew with you and dey'll respect that little darling of yours even more then you! Adventurers are REAL suckahs for dah whole true loven bit and 'redeeming thru da dik' don't tell that last part to boss."

"Now some tings you should know bout boss...boss iz REAL Good at magic light. But you know what she is especially good at?"

"Mind fucking, Necromancy, Summoning, monstah taming, and a few other less conspicious things I ain't entirely sure of. I know dis tho...boss was also pretty strong without dat armor. So I think Basov was pretty good with the ol' body enhancing magics. Boss also knew how to blast some fuckers...hence nevah bothering to learn to shoot from ol Nisha."

"Seen more then a few bastard die because they thot da boss was a meathead without no ranged fireopowah...they were very very wrong."

"I iz sure boss also knows some other magics...but the stuff she shows uz lads iz meant to scare or impress. I am sure she hasn't shown her full bag of tricky spells."

"Boss loikes having surprises yah see...lots of surprises. Big reason why she is da boss....also being scary and able to mindrape even a monstah into submission...I knows better to fight boss for bein boss. Ol' Boo ain't that stupid and neither was dere a single bandit....ah I remember when ol' boo was da boss...Tis nice to see em grow up *sniffles*."

>>573489
"Nisha...is gone a lot lately according to bosses orders. Nisha also a leads a detachment of da gang. Didn't technically lose everybody but dey been suffering an awful lot of losses lately...."

>>573494
"Prove it kid, I ain't see much magical potential from yah, if yah did den da boss would of been taken advantage."

Finally after what seemed like eternity you get back you both your place...and man are you tired.

"If you want to be propah sneaky...best off getting trained by those shadowy organizations or the adventurer shadow school. Granted know a bit but more due to if I didn't i would probably not have lived this long."

Boo as his names suggest is insanely good at being sneaky. Truth be told the only thing that ruins it his is love of saying 'Boo' before attacking. it really does scare the shit of you and if you had a guess them too before dying to Boo.

Still Boo certainly knew how to kill a man stealthily if the need required it...he just so loved the look of terror and surprise before he attacked. It was quite the bad habit of his.

Still the training went real well...so well in fact by the time it ended it was starting to lighten up in the sky and you could see a familiar heavily armored figure trodding over.

Buuuuuuut, here comes Nova! And I bet she was fighting.

Let's do something risky and frisky.

Switch to our heroic outfit, RUN and go grab Nova in our arms and carry her off to her dungeon kissing furiously, use some of her time dilators and have a hot dirty quickie with time dilators, still barely uncovered in our armor to make it work quick and dirty. The hero and the evil one.

After we're satisfied, RUSH back to school and arrive just one time. Everyone refreshed, we're not late, win win.

Fortunately for you as it turned out the academy was used to tired students and had an array of drugs and spells available. To help with concentration, staying awake, and other matters. Best of all it was widely available and free!

So for the first time ever you proceeded to take advantage of their offer and thereby allowed yourself to stay alert during the rest of the day till classes ended. Classes seemed to never go very long...then again they were very fond of actual practice compared to lecturing all the time.

You should keep in mind putting together your own team.

You also want to consider what to specialize in.

Remember your fiance will largely control her own forces and dungeon on her own. So you don't have to micro manage that(as technically the Genie will be doing so). However that doesn't mean you can't make requests or suggestions.

You never know when having some shady backup can come in handy.

Your fiance can help supply you with gear, supplies, and even different upgrades. Problem is they aren't for free and she herself has to supply her other forces with too.

Hence it can be handy to divert some of your own resources that way to make it easier to facilitate your own requests.

You should also figure out what the plans are in general. The stuff I listed is just some of the basics.

Those would basically be double agents.

Who do exist but given the peculiarities of how adventurers work is easier said then done. There is also such thing as evil adventurers.

Problem is they soon run afoul of their non evil comrades.

Adventurers as a whole are a very odd group and seen as a double edged sword. They are however as a whole a terrifyingly powerful group.

Not even gods have gotten away with running afoul of adventurers.

Adventurers for all their problems do have their uses and they are powerful enough as a whole to not be trifled with lightly. Just about everybody has learned that lesson the hard way.

Despite their power and problems adventurers are notoriously poorly organized, mobile, shady, and willful. They are most content and intend to stay that way.

>>576892
You decide to go check out the tutoring services the academy offers students like yourself. In particular you head towards the holy which is one of the most bustling ones. Before you finally found the place enjoying a skewer of barbiqued mystery meat and ever stew in hollow breadpan. It was oddly delicious and best of cheap as hell!

Hmm, what's a good party composition.
I think it should be.
1 Fighter (us)
1 Wizard
1 Rogue/Thief
1 Cleric
1 Tank? (Nova?)
1 Bard
1 Ranger/Archer (Nisha?)

Not sure if Nova and/or Nisha going on adventures is a good idea or feasible, so we'll have to come up with alternatives for that.

>Admittedly the place was crawling with scum and orphans
What a great place to recruit a thief character right? Maybe?
Well, I'm sure the Bandits have options too.

Let's try both.

>Other?
Try to recruit a Thief into our party, either here in the scummy place or if we can't find any go to the bandits/Nova. Get options.

You have an idea to recruit a thief character for your future party. I mean there are tons of shady people around right? So plenty of options and if worse comes to worse you can come crying to Nova about the lack of success.

She is bound to know some.

While you do indeed find a few...problem is how reliable and good they are. Fortunately the shop keeper tells you some of the shady academy students also like to eat there so they may be your best bet.

It took a bit but you found a few of them, but only two of them were available. They were Nik the thief and Muna the mysterious.

After that you went to the bandit base to find some additional options. Unfortunately by the time you arrived Nova already left with some recruits. However both Boo and Nisha were left behind. Both of them each have a single recommendation.

Boo suggests Skurza the Sneak. Someone who he claims is quite familiar with stealthy murder and thieving. Nisha meanwhile suggests Sile Beam who apparently is quite good with a bow, scouting, and has some thieving skills.

As for Nova's recommendation you'll have to wait till she returns to hear that one.

You decide to train with the bandits. Which as it turns out you arrived right on top for. As both Boo and Nisha are breaking in the new blood.

Apparently Nova took with her those who were 'trained' and to show off to them as necessary.

You see Nisha crack open a crate revealing a bunch of oiled crossbows in sawdust that had to be wiped down. She also pulled out another smaller boxes from the crates which contained important stuff like the required threads. They were handed out along with bows, throwing weapons, and slings for ranged target practiced. Many of them that weren't recruited by Nisha did quite poorly in this.

Boo meanwhile took up a very stick(club) and started testing the new guys. When he wasn't beating the shit out of them with a big stick he was testing them for their stealth. Which they did notably better in.

After getting an idea of their skill levels Boo and Nisha met up talking how to divide them. Swiftly they were broken into multiple groups. Most of them were then required to test their lockpicking and pushed through an acrobatics area if they were deemed stealthy enough.

You yourself did better then average, but you were still forced to do additional stealth and weapons training. It would appear Boo and Nisha are rather used to this sorta thing. Which makes you wonder just how many people they gone through over the years...and where the ones who survived ended up?

You decide to sleep in...and BOY does it feel awesome. You haven't slept that well in long...long time. You had this awesome dream...that didn't actually turn out to be a dream when you awoke to some sexy funs.

That was near the end of your sleep though as you slowly wwake up and to only realize that somehow your lover already slipped away. Still Groggy headed you notice she was talking to Vek about something while looking at some papers. She was wearing a loose bathrobe being freshly bathed while enjoying an assortment of fruits, breads, and cheeses platter with some pickled veggies and meats on the side. She was also sipping from a cup that reeked of a strange blend of flowers, fruits, honey, and blood. A tea if the Armor using the teapot to refill it was anything to go by.

You meanwhile were still in bed surrounded by rumpled and soiled sheets as well as pillows. Turns out that sweet dream there in the end wasn't quite a dream...but it was like the perfect blend of dream and reality.

"So the reports are to your satisfaction?"

"I had to see it for myself...its a good sign no?"

"Well if you count all the monsters and proximity to the undead a good thing then yeah..."

"So it was due to the undead that the magi never bothered to move in..."

"Most likely. Not even they dare to take the undead lightly."

"...Such a prime opportunity...but it will be costly."

"Good luck finding another place like that so rich and so close. If we want another chance we must go far a field. Which due to your...ties i naturally know you will not."

"How is the undead presence?"

"There is a garrison of undead banes nearby along the wall. Outside of that we best got tribal groups."

"Tribal...they will be tough."

"Aren't they always Mistress? Fortunately we haven't noted any major necropolis nearby."

"...I find that strange."

"I believe its due to being so close, monsters, and tribes. However along the route to the place...we are not so lucky."

"So that place really is a necroplis?"

"Afraid so. Undead are smart its based far enough away to be out of sight of their lands barrier. We want in that place...well will skirt dangerously close to this nearby necropolis."

"How bad?"

"Former Dwarven Fortress now overrun by the undead."

"...Shit. Any other routes?"

"They are based in the channel that is the fastest route. Otherwise we go around...through mountains. Lots of mountains."

"...I may have to parlay with those undead bastards. What do we know of them?"

"They have a nearby overrun dead marsh and haunted forest. Its a real bastion of those undead fucks and its too out of the way for a holy war to scour them out."

"Sounds like we need to play nice...but they will be a perfect border don't you think?"

"I don't think so. If we skirt by them we get dangerously close to deep monster turf and possible giant country..."

"...I see a way through," says Nova as a sinister smile appears on her lips as she spreads out the map.

"How so Mistress?"

"You said there was a dwarven fortress yes?"

"Yeah?"

"...Then we go UNDER," she stabs the map with a dagger. "Those damned dwarves are bound to have some outposts and great underground highways...we take that through. We wont have to brave the undead or the monster major concentrations if we go under..."

"Risky."

"Risky yes but at least this way we have a chance to circumvent both those major problems."

"Its going to take time to delve a route."

"Use the dungeon to tap into their network JAL. Its time we went caves..."

"Understood."

"Its going to take some yet more time before we can make that move....and I don't have many minions suitable for extensive underground work..." Sighs Nova. "I am going to have to do this myself...goddamn it. RIGHT when I have a cutie to entertain myself with...trips are going to be long too."

"...Be a bit of a waste no? We use them too much like that our cover may be blown. We don't have that second lair prepped yet Mistress."

"Ah...all that effort to get that crew together and cultivated them for so long...any ideas JAL?"

"They are...Elite no Mistress? Why don't we...take advantage of that fact?"

"How so Vek?"

"EXPANSION!"

"...Expanding?"

"Ai Mistress...we scatter them...plant them like seeds. Let them develop...grow. Recruit...Expand."

"...Not all of them will be suitable for that kind of work."

"Ai Mistress but it would help no?"

"I suppose it wouldn't hurt...what is left of them I am sure Boo and Nisha could use...yes that is good idea. Make the arrangements JAL. They are going to need supplies and cash. Lets also shell out some more gold for info. We need to make sure its update before we decide to move them where."

"Understood!"

"Ah...I fucking love caves JAL...Been so long since I been down there. Shame I don't have many who share that feeling. Well I suppose some alone time will do me good..."

"Bit early in the relationship for that isn't it Mistress?"

"He is an adventurer they are pretty good about entertaining themselves and not missing too much. You would otherwise have a point."

"He still doesn't have a group Lady...and he was asking about someone sneaky for recruiting purposes."

We have a couple of questions for Nova

"Nova, you know what we are trying to do by now. Like you, we. . .have to have two faces. One that let's us continue our schooling and adventuring, a good side, and the other that allows us to continue our path down the ways of the Death Demon. Where the adventurer guild to know we practice forbidden arts, they might ban us. We don't want this.

Can you teach us how to hide our sides like you do? To us, you are Nova, but to your bandits you are Big Boss. How do you do it?"

--

"We also want to establish a party and thought she might have some suggestions. We'll try to be descriptive where we can.

'It's a bit of a special request, but do you or Vek know if we might find...good and evil double agents for any of these? If not a double agent, then at least do you know of any who fit these?

>1 Wizard
"There is holy magic, and there is unholy magic. A wizard who can help channel either (or preferbly both) would do well. Someone who can counter spells and help us fight where we're weak at magic."
>1 Rogue/Thief
"We aren't very particularly good at stealing and looting. I mean we have been phenomenally lucky sometimes as with ah. . .Vek, when we randomly steal everything. But it's not something we can do regularly. A thief who knows how to steal things and avoid traps and tricks on a regular basis is good."
>1 Cleric
"Someone willing to heal both the holy and the uholy, the good and the damned."
>1 Tank
"Someone that can take a lot of hits and is willing to take them. A person that wouldn't mind being sent into a meatgrinder trap to clog it up, or take a ton of blows so the rest of us can keep fighting back."
>1 Bard
"Someone with a lot of charisma. Good diplomatic skills, and music too. If we need to convince anyone of anything, we can rely on the bard."
>1 Ranger/Archer (or maybe a Gunslinger)
"We are of course, a melee fighter. We kill with our sword or with our scythe. But we aren't very good at ranged combat, at best we can send a bolt of fire or a blast of ice but we can't snipe or unleash a hailstorm of firepower.

Nisha, we have heard, is a great shooter. We would be honored to have her, but if she must be with you, do yuo know of alternatives? We'd accept Gunslingers too."

"Good Morning."

"There is no great overreaching sole adventurer's guild and they are notorious for having shady members. Its unlikely they would but others may cause you problems, but as an adventurer you would have their backing."

"Its simply a means of dividing up your identity and showing different sides while having a varied enough appearance. If you hadn't noticed when I go out and am known as Bascov I am in that suit of armor."

"I don't know of many double agents. It costs a lot of money to get that kind of info."

"Wizards are very expensive and costly to train. I don't know many of them there is a reason why I myself had to handle the magics."

"Such thieves are common and lots of those with adventuring training to boot at your academy. Your better off looking there."

"Certain clerics who pride themselves on neutrality can do that as well as those who are more interested in things like money and not ethics. I know only of a few but I don't recall hearing any of them being interested in adventuring."

"Hm....I have a few of those types under me. They are commonly trained as bodyguards so they aren't too uncommon. You should be able to find a number of them even at your academy."

"I know only of a few bards...they are a rather mobile lot unless they are in retainer. You might be able to find a few at your school."

"...Archer's are not rare. Just a pain to train up. I do have some available but there are plentiful in your school. As for gunners...don't have any of those. Alchemists right? Pricey but not as expensive as a proper magi."
>>
Rolled 6 (1d100)

Your better off looking at your adventuring acquaintances. I don't know too many in that line of work which can be considered...friendly. Much less those that are double agents. You go to the bathroom and make sure to take th scrolls with you to go over again.

That was when you spoke to Vek.

"Vek give me the dress."

"..wait WHAT?"

"I heard Vek I heard it all...so give me the dress."

"...uh...okay..."

With that the dress and appeared...which you put on along with the jewelry. That was when you walked back out heading towards Nova.

Nova for her part dropped her weapon upon her foot and you could see her eyes widen even through the armor. Soon after the shock wore off mostly due to the pain in her foot. She began her best to tear off her armor while cursing loudly about it. Thus bits of armor flew everywhere as she threw you on the bed while she shed the last of her armor before hopping on.

Some days later...

"Hey Vek I thought the boss was suppose to do her rounds," asked Boo.

"WELL...she might have gotten distracted...or something."

"Something? Really? Come to think of it I hadn't seen her boyfriend around either..."

"Your a dunce Boo," claims Nisha.

"What?"

"Obviously they are having special alone time before Nova goes."

"Oh...but why so long? Its not like its their honeymoon or something,"

Nisha proceeds to loudly smack both their faces. "idiot, what do you expect a pair of horny teenagers to do!"

"...Oh right...I forgot."

"You forgot? REALLY?"

"So how long we gonna have to wait?"

"Fuck if I know," states Nisha before heading off.

"So Vek...how much longer?"

"Well...they ARE a bunch of horny teenagers. I know mature adults have been known to easily go a week for their honeymoons."

"...Fuck. So come by next week then?"

"Maybe. We'll see."

Some number of weeks later Nova finally sets off leaving a very...devastated room and fiance behind.

"....ow...owie....ouchie....ouch...fuck I wont be able to get it up for at least a month...and gods only know how long its going to take before my balls recover," complains Avis. "VEK you wouldn't happen to have healing stuff that will work right?"

"...You two sorta burnt through all the cheaper and easier ones. Tolerances have exceeded that which can easily be done..."

"Which means?"

"Unless you know a high priest enjoy sleeping it off. So here is a fine selection of booze and drugs..."

"...These are mushrooms."

"Trust me they'll work."

"...How much school did I miss?"

"Vek?"

"A lot."

"How much is a lot?"

Yes indeed.

We should keep an eye out for Alchemists though. Ones that specialize in healing, buffs, and debuffs I think that, with a little prodding and poking, Vek could be made to make the dungeon into an alchemist's paradise so that we could get ahold of an alchemist reliably without hardly any cost to us. That's the foot in the door we need to incorporate them into a regular friend/party member.

Bonus points if the alchemist is also a wizard who likes antimagic or blasting.

You gave Nova a kiss before she left then went to school. You got a bit of work to catch up on and more importantly need to find party members.

You heard about an adventure expo that will be starting in a couple months. It enables adventures come far and wide to get together. Forming groups with people they would not otherwise meet.

In game terms this means you anons can come up with characters who will attend said expo giving you the chance to recruit them. So yeah create some potential companions and crap.

Magic items that players suggested also ended up becoming a new thing too btw. Anons managed to even acquire one of them.

Well our friends said they'd invite us to check out a swamp dungeon "in a few months" in one of the early threads. That still hasn't happened.

So we have time to fluff up companions. We need to decide on what companions we want/need though.

Genie stated the essentials for an adventuring party are thus (correct me if I'm wrong)

>Martial
>Shadow

>Magic

I think we fit in the Martial/Shadow niche, so we need the others more thoroughly filled out. It would also be nice if we got buffs/debuffs though.

Also I just remembered, we wanted to differentiate our heroic and demonic styles.

Death Demon would be swift, fast, and deadly.

Heroic would be nigh indestructible, shielded, and armored. Slow but powerful.

So we should get items specifically geared toward this.
>>
>>587091
I would tend to say that we're more Cunnin' than Brutal, so if we get someone that's either a martial or shadow it should be a martial. So a tank is a good candidate (I suggested a battlemage tank up above because really a paladin would fit the tanky/fighty/healer spot but we need an alignment neutral version).

>>587159
Vek messed with your head a little bit also they were intent on killing Nova because she managed to kill most of them.

Nova is a real powerful fighter not even Avis(you) felt confident in taking her on.

Best part is according to Boo she is an even better mage. Oddly though you never seen her use her magics.

You would have to be careful with the introductions. Its not exactly unknown for adventurers to have...interesting lovers. They don't really frown upon it unless they are from an opposing force. Problem is Nova IS from an opposing force against the adventurers.

By adventurer standards you're pretty fucking shady if they knew about your lover and your death demon arts.

>>587184
Tanks aren't slow in genieverse they just look it. If they were slow as they looked they wouldn't be able to tank properly.

Tanks are actually scary fast despite their appearances. There is a reason why a single adventurer tank can keep an entire party safe.

Basically tanks focus on two things 1 taking hits and 2 moving fast. They don't hit hard but take awhile to put down and they can often escape if they really wanted...but given how their tanks. They rarely use speed to escape but instead to take hits for others.

>>587207
battlemage tanks do exist you also have hybrid martial and magic tanks.

Battlemage tanks are usually seen in armies and are massive headache to deal with due to their ability to take hits and unleash spells.

Not a fun combo to be on the receiving end of.

Healing isn't solely the domain of priests or the good forces.

Evil and magi can also use healing spells.

Its just the holy institutes pay a LOT more attention to healing because its good publicity and makes people like them more. Not to mention help keeping worshippers healthy(who attend sermons, make donations and so on).

The magi for their part don't mind the specializing and honestly they like the fact because it means people are bothering them a bit less about it. They still have healing spells basically they just don't advertise the fact.

Evil people obviously need healing too so they long figured out healing magics. Given their hostile and often aggressive temperaments healing is especially important to them if they wish to keep waging war.

Paladins aka holy warriors just about every holy institute has them. Seriously they are insanely common right up there with priests. Its because they make up the backbone of military forces that religious orders desperately need to keep themselves safe and expand their reach.

Because of that most of them are occupied and same is true for priests, but you always have a few outliers who don't get along but at the same time are still true believers. Adventuring slots happen to be an excellent place to stash these individuals.

This is also true for the evil faiths which is partly why you end up with evil or antihero adventurer parties. There is quite a bit of friction among adventurers because of this but generally adventurers are pretty good about policing themselves.

Problem is others don't see it that way because of how chill adventurers are. It takes a lot before they move against one of their own. Necromancers, blood magics, and demonoligists? Perfectly okay. Evil paladins and clerics? Fine just fine as long as they don't take it too far.

This drives other factions crazy but problem is the adventurers are too strong a power block to pick a fight with lightly. Even worse they strongly resist efforts to organize and control them. Guilds while present are not very big or strong as a whole. Even the great adventuring dynasties have limited influence over them as a whole. Yet at the same time they stick up for each other and the consequences of antagonizing them is such that not even gods can afford to pay that price.

yet at the same time adventurers are damn useful...if quite troublesome.

Hey genie, a long time ago while playing the other Modalvania quest you warned about the pro's and con's of being a Gun Magi / Gun Mage, can you remind us what you think on them? I want to come up with fluff for one

For example, why is a proper Magi more expensive than a Gun Magi?
>>
>>587328
You don't know how to pick locks or disable traps. Basically the skill heavy tasks for Shadows is what your lacking.

True martial wise you just need to build up some proper martial training as you already got the gear.

Necromancy, blood magics, and evil outsider magics are all very heavily frowned up. Truth is blood magics would be suppressed a LOT more if it wasn't for them leveraging the fact they can perform DNA tests.

>>587353
Guns are literally the result of alchemy. Alchemy is the result of subpar magical talent.

Alchemy and philosophy eventually creates the Sciences.

Magi are more expensive then gun magi is due to proper magi needing more training and more magical materials. That costs money lots of money.

Guns were created by the alchemists to help compensate for their weaknesses. They also invented explosives and chemical weapons. They also help create drugs, medicines, and many other things.

Hence why people think alchemists are a bunch of dirty fighting bastards but its true.

Gun Magi are mostly magi who have subpar magical talent and seek to compensate for it by using firearms. Its not unheard of that they are also alchemists.

Stronger talents are rarer and deemed more valuable. Problem is magi need a lot of time to develop properly. Gun magi are able to somewhat 'cheat' this because of their use of firearms which frankly speaking don't require nearly as much training to use properly.

Problem with guns is they sucked ass for a very long time. Alchemists somewhat bypassed this through special munitions and enchantments. Making good guns hideously expensive. Then you had the gun magi who used their magics to help compensate for the weaknesses of the gun. Problem is this takes quite a bit of training and finesse to get it down properly, but they are quite deadly despite being a weaker magi(usually).

Guns(and alchemy in general really) basically make it so alchemists(ahem magi with lacking talents) to compensate for their weaknesses.

They are also the ascenstors to SCIENCE! Though when sciences developed it was quite a blow to alchemy because it forced them into firmly magical territory where before that they weren't.

Alchemists are also the ones who literally invented magitech. Problem is magitech has a bad rep because of it and it only might shake that off during the great revolutionary period.

but dosnt that mean that a very good gun maig could be better then a real maige? cheaper and can change there ammo to min max damge agest difernt people they are fighting hell could even make a gunblade
>>
Rolled 24 (1d100)

>>587430
Gun mages are simply gunners who also know magic and heavily take advantage of this fact. It helps a lot that guns were invented by alchemists who were generally people with poor magical talent.

In terms of training a gun mage is between an ordinary mage and a ordinary gunner. They take awhile to train but are much faster to produce then an ordinary magi but are much slower to produce then a ordinary gunner.

If you want a good ordinary gunner before tech has had time to make guns kick ass your only hope was the expensive modifications and munitions alchemists came up with or the even more expensive magic guns.

So guns for a long time had a real bad rep for being super expensive if you wanted any quality to them is important given magical armors and creatures.

So gun mages are stereotyped into being mages with poor magical talent but who still wish to kick ass.

>>587328
Blood magics are much more accepted among the upper classes and especially in the kingdoms. In the theocracies they are however hated a lot. Blood magics was able to do this was due to their DNA testing which they leveraged for all it was worth. Hence why they are much more accepted in the kingdoms where that shit is especially important. Blood magic is thus while possibly frowned upon isn't illegal there. Necromancers don't have that kind of luck usually.

Necromancy meanwhile is the opposite. Necromancers figured out that a big deal for them is the afterlife...and the necromancers could leverage this fact. Unfortunately it only worked on the theocracies to a degree. While frowned upon you at least could survive and its not outright illegal. blood magic meanwhile tends to be illegal in most theocracies.

Then there are those who make deals with literal demons and use their magics...among other evil outsiders and beings. They are pretty much hated everywhere outside the places where is commonplace. Unsurprisingly for those who use blatantly evil magics the only place they are accepted besides certain possibly literal hellholes are the magicracy.

Adventurers due to their strong ties of being mistrusted outcasts possibly criminal scum are MUCH more accepting in general and due to them supporting each other. Its quite difficult to deal with someone even if they use demon magics if they are an adventurer. Makes them a real eyesore to a lot of people albeit a very useful one.

So civilization wise you have the Big Three. Monarchies. Theocracies. Magicracy.

This stays this way until the great revolutionary period which allows for other goverance types to develop successfully. Before that at best you had the odd and rare trade republic.

Outside of civilizations you had the barbaric tribes who are a real grab bag. Some note worthy stuff for them is some do farm and beware the Clans. A good example being the cannibalistic clans who are VERY powerful. While the tribes were eventually crushed by the bootheel of progress, time, and civilization the Clans survived even thrived.

For the Expo:
Leon D. Vance - The Gunmagi Inventor

Son of Magi and an Alchemist, Leon was heavily influenced by both his parents.

Leon wanted to become an alchemist like his father, but because magic is the predominant power of the world, was sent to become a magi proper. Though Leon obeyed, the calling of alchemy never left him, and on his off time, he studied the art of alchemy. Particularly that of guns.

During one of his studies of divination class, in a freak accident he mistakenly view hundreds of thousands of years into the future. This was heavily frowned upon, as often once a certain point was reached, known only as "the Future Fall" by some insane prophets, there was great risk of magi being given the 'Future Plague of the Mind', one day understood to be Madness.

Leon was fortunate to avoid this, and in his sight he saw a world, not ruled by magic, but of something else. Of metal, of machines, of chemistry, a world where the great ranged weapons of man were not arrows or bolts of magic, but of the mighty GUN. Guns that did all that magi could do, spout laser beams, blasts of destructive plasma, fire, ice, lightning, guns that could even heal and construct.

Enamoured by this, he sought to replicate it. But he feels absolutely limited by the timeframe of his era, and so set out to become a gun magi himself, rather than a true magi. Not because he wished to compensate for a lack of magic, but because he wanted to fines the might of the gun.

Leon takes particular pride in his inventive streak, often harnessing magic to create new and innovative ways to craft better gun designs and abilities. Sometimes this gets in the way of him learning new magic proper, but he still devotes effort to it, trying to juggle his twin goals of responsibility to magi school and a love of the weapon.
For example, one of his idea's for how to heal a person was to "slap'em with an extreme weakness to life magic spell (that makes death magic actually heal them) and then shoot them with extra death-y bullets."

His ultimate goal is tot try and harness enough magic and find a way to open a portal to the future to grab at least one of the fantastic things and bring it to the past. If he could get his hands on just one, he believes great things are to follow.

A pure mage can be a walking invisible artillery battery with force shields and other shit up their sleeves.

That is a stereotype though. Truth is military wise mages are often required to specialize...which makes those artillery magi that much more terrifying. A group of artillery magi can annihilate an entire army...but when are you going to find an army without their own magi supporting them?

Hence mages basically turned into stuff that our modern tech militarizes take for granted+ then some. Problem being they are much harder to get.

Gun magi tend to be much weaker(why else would they take up guns?) Still they can be quite adaptable opponents especially if they are an alchemist. In which case enjoy your explosions and chemical weaponry because alchemists are dicks like that.

I mean magi have to go out of their way to be a fucking dick but it comes completely natural to alchemists. Comes with the field really they are kinda like lawyers in that regard but less full of themselves.

>>587551
For tribes...I really can't make it very short. So here is the important information.

If a tribe wishes to civilize but not give up their control they transform into a Clan. Clans are fucking scary even in sci fi. Basically techno barbarians.

Civilized groups tend to pour most their resources into an elite group. For example the nobles who are then expected to fight and so on...but it works differently for the tribes.

The tribes practice a form of communism in which case resources are much more spread out equally. This is because in the environments they survive in they can't afford to NOT do so unlike in civilization(hence another reason why they are seen as 'soft).

This basically means civilization goes for QUALITY and tribes for QUANTITY troop approach.

Hence the illusion that there is so goddamn many barbarians...in truth its just their average war potential is much MUCH higher, because in truth civilization is much better at feeding a lot of people.

Ironically you would think its the other way. tribes focus on higher quality due to environment..but your forgetting pressures. Their ENTIRE population is under going this pressure so they can't skimp on sharing resources. Meanwhile in save civilization land you got all those nobles who monopolize resources and get fat/lazy.

This unusual dynamic I could go into much greater detail describing, but I crudely simplified it. So that is why barbarians seemingly have a lot more higher quality troops then civilization.

They undergo different pressures as a whole.

Clans...well this is a historic fantasy so they are not as important but are still around. In a sci fi game I would explain them some more. Basically they kept their barbaric tendencies but advanced enough to not get destroyed, because of this and them keeping some of those old pressures/traditions. Makes them a real fucking menace in later timelines. Seriously if you think the tribes are bad they got nothing on the Clans.

Where others focused on stealth killing, or scouting, Kyrie wanted to be great at one thing: Stealing. Everything.

Her body is often loaded with sack upon sack of bag of holding and magical container where she keeps a lifetime of stolen goods upon her, as well as equipment for every need. Lockpicks, trap detector, everything a proper thief needs to steal just about anything. And everything.

Some people loot entire dungeons to the bone when they are lucky. Kyrie desire to do this on a regular basis.

She became attracted to the idea of the Shadow School which could further her abilities to bypass traps and get at the loot. In fact, she believes that with enough training, she could even disable and steal the traps too.

An aspiring alchemist that specializes in concoctions that use the fungi for a good semi-inert base with decay-oriented affinities (and some more complicated humors with the more advanced fungi) to fuse other effects onto would be nice. I was thinking something along the lines of imbuing fungal agents with the effects of demonic materials for extremely potent temporary effects that the body has natural mechanisms to filter out over time, so it doesn't cause any permanent corruption.

I'm chewing on some sort of backstory for her, coming from a small Loksha Clan affiliated village in the southern Mueke jungles...then getting cast out by her druid/shaman parents when it was discovered she was tampering with fungi (the agents of decay!) for imbuing demonic powers into instead of proper and holy regular plant materials. There is also some rumor that she has begun to plumb the depths of the transformative powers of fungal based elixirs, leading some to suspect the it is a case similar to Dr. Jecill/Mr Hidden that caused her to be thrown out.

So she finds herself in the adventurer's guild and in need of a party to pursue her further studies. Despite being thrown out of her old Clan she still wears the distinctive decorative wooden mask that identifies her as heir to a Medicine Man position in the Loksha Clan, should she ever return to claim it.

Other than that I had a sketchy idea for an Apprentice Warmage specializing in blood and electrical magic who was the nearly forgotten bastard son of a prominent general and an enemy sorceress sent off to adventurer school after some peremptory training. His lineage and propensity towards blood magic made it necessary to get him away from the imperial warmage school to somewhere more distant.

He's notable for the exotic armor he brought along with him, and his proclivity for using lightning-cloaked fists make him easy to pick out in a crowd.

According to Hoz she fights like that when she is required to play nice...in life and death situations apparently she fights differently. Saying she makes heavy use of sacrificing, diabolical magics, and necromancy on top of some other stuff.

Nova is big bad so I had to make her a sadist. She actually isn't a huge dom in the sack due to always being boss. So technically she is a sadist who leans towards sub till she grows bored anyway. Fortunately for MC he can ensure he doesn't suffer to much but allowing her to...enjoy her work using others(see who isn't him).

If he doesn't he is the one who gets to pay the price.

Basically if MC is smart he lets Nova enjoy her work. While this DOES make her horny at the same time it helps satisfy her evil side.

its actually the reason why she tends to be so laid back if rather horny when Avis is usually around. Unfortunately for him during the several week long fuckfest she slid back into what she is otherwise like. It is why he was left so sore afterwards. It wasn't so much the duration then Nova wanting to let her other side out to get satisfied.

Normally she prefers to spare Avis this because you know...she actually rather likes him. She wouldn't want to accidentally break anything or worsen his impression of her anymore then is necessary. Not to mention she has other ways to scratch that itch rather then make poor Avis suffer through it.

Its also why the bandit Boo gets so weirded out when you two are together and Vek teases her so much.

You decide to get something to eat by now its dinner time. So many students are either at the cafeteria or avoiding it like the plague. Usually one can tell which by how long one has been at the school.

So you went to get something to eat and a break. Regretting the fact that you spent too much money cursing you to the horrors of the cafeteria. You and at least half the student body are convinced that the reason why the food there is so bad is to 'inspire' students to get out make enough money so they don't have to suffer through it.

It is quite the effective strategy.

Sadly there was nothing interesting that happened while you were out(didn't roll badly or good enough for such to occur).

You...realize something very important as you sit down to cook. That important fact is...you should really find someone who knows how to cook. Problem is your sure those other kids are thinking the same exact thing...and you don't know entirely where to look. So as you finish up and head back to work on catching up you ponder this problem...

Stop when you see a very strange sight of your shadow, an undead mushroom, and...a chef sitting around a table playing cards. You had to double check and rub your eyes to make sure you were not in fact hallucinating. You noticed that in the middle the pot was made up of a mushroom, a ladle, some paper, a few coins, and shade stone.

Originally I was planning on Hoz the sadist but I realized if I made it the priestess instead it would potentially allow much more entertaining interactions between her and Nova then compared to Hoz.

also an S and M cleric couple is something I personally find hilarious.

Nova herself only shows a certain side to Avis and tries to hide away the rest. If you ever disguise yourselves or secretly spy you'll find out how evil she can be. It helps that she avoids Avis unless she is particularly relaxed or he is in trouble.

Nova has shown herself to be...exceedingly effective at kicking ass. This is however due to a mixture of Vek's stuffing knowledge inside her head, pumping her full of boosters since young, and personalized custom high end equipment. That shit alone would make anyone dangerous. Nova just add insult to injury by being a chick, experience, and practice.

There is a reason why crying for Nova has saved Avis's ass before and will likely again in the future.

Yes this has implications for role reversal shenanigans. Yes Nova is aware of this fact and hence attempts to humor poor Avis(see players). She mostly does this by letting out her evil when he isn't around to be witness and minimize the amount of times she saves his ass(generally by avoiding babysitting and coming out only when asked). She also doesn't directly advertise herself being the stronger one. It helps she doesn't go around in public embarrassing him as well.

So hah.

Closest thing is Nova's fondness for pretties on her pretties. Mostly a result for MORE PRETTY...she also has a bit of warped sense of what she considers 'pretty'. Its partly why she scares the ever living fuck out of people who know her a bit(mostly bandits and victims).

This was hinted at bit most blatantly in her love of high end things and pretties for her pretty boyfriend. If she could get away with it she would turn him into a mountain of pretties. She was getting too into it said pretties would become a mountain of horrors. So she settles with jewels and few odder ends. It helps she doesn't much show Avis her ideas of pretties and avoids the ones she knows he wont like around him.(which makes it so the bandits and victims suffer only more...especially as she has to divert her ideas of pretties away from BF)

Vek actually helps quite a bit by suppressing and minimizing her attempts. No this isn't due to him liking you its because it would be very...VERY expensive. The likes of which Vek has only ever been willing for Nova herself or his dungeon. Vek isn't looking forward to having invest so heavily in someone new. Problem is for him that is exactly what Nova is pushing very hard for. Vek will only be able to delay for so long.>>602854

Symbionts, 'natural' boosters, drugs, and magic mostly. They tend to be rather pricey but Vek is a cheating bastard like that because he gets to ignore economics to a degree. Normally stuff like that is priced to hell because of the nobles extremely high and expensive demands but Vek is a cheater and gets by that.

If you remember Nova already gave you a booster that was that magic mushroom. Your actually rather lucky because Nova had to pay the unlock charge on top of the items price. It helps make up for your rather late start.

That IS assuming however you choose to boost yourself the same way Nova did. Problem is your builds are unlikely to be that compatible.

Technically slimes do exist they are cousin to the ooze. They unlike them have a nucleus and are closer to outrageously enlarged single celled organism. Oozes are more like algae or moss.

...I spend far too much time trying to science my magic bullshit, but nonfiction is often stranger then fiction. Has all kinds of cool shit to steal from.

>>607870
Technically yes. As you anons are from more technologically advanced world you can certainly leverage that to your advantage.

Be warned the Genie actually bothered to study up on the magical effects on society including economics so it wont be as smooth as you would otherwise expect.
