Shinobi Quest #38

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Previous Threads: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Shinobi%20Quest

Last thread, Tsuki spoke to a shapeshifting chakra deity, inciting controversy. She also spilled the beans regarding her powers and their origins to her teammates, Nori Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuuga, resulting in a touching moment between the three.

A finalized choice about Tsuki’s training was also made- to spend the next month training with Itachi-sensei. But first, she decided that a visit home was in order….

Evening, /qst/. While many of you are likely familiar with Shinobi Quest, some of you may not be- in which case, welcome! I highly recommend checking out the previous threads on the archive for clarity, but lurkers are always welcome.

We’ll also be debuting a new OP image after today’s thread, courtesy of our lovely drawfag. I figured we should stick to the original, at least for this first post on the new board. Opinions on it aside, let’s having a good training thread- and try not to break any more hearts, you bastards.

Woo! Live Thread! Just caught up in the archive the other day and loving it so far. It got me thinking and now I gotta sperg out for a bit to get it off my mind.

I am going to attempt to make a difficult sell: Tsukihime should pick up genjutsu. Let me "TL:DR" my points before too many people shun me for daring to speak such heresy.

-Genjutsu and Tsuki are a good fit: Genjutsu is almost exclusively intelligence based. The smarter the user, the greater the illusion.

-Good for dealing with "teh plebs": Bruisers and meatheads without proper training or aptitude can be rendered very helpless or even turned on each other without having to get our hands dirty or even break a sweat.

-Room to grow: In addition to the limited but still useful established canon uses, Non-Sharingan genjutsu is some of the least explored territory in all of Naruto and is therefore ripe for extra-canon shenanigans with developing it and coming up with new, cool, maybe even ingenious uses of the technique. I have one in mind I am going to try to pitch here in fact. (Nevermind that, in canon, ordinary genjutsu is SUPPOSED to be useful enough to keep it a mainstay as the third part of the shinobi jutsu trifecta alongside ninjutsu and taijutsu.)

Stay tuned for my pitch, or don't, it's coming regardless.

>>
>>568025
>>568035

>>568052
Swing and a miss, thanks for playing.
>>
The pitch:

I suspect the main reason so many are down on the illusion stuff is that: 1, mundane genjutsu is both rare and underwhelming in the series; 2, it is limited in its usefulness by strict and avoidable conditions that must be met for it to work; and 3, can be easily and somewhat arbitrarily broken rendering it extremely unreliable.

So let's work with that knowledge. The biggest issue here, to me, seems to be the third one, the weakness that if someone realizes they are in a genjutsu, they can simply opt to leave it if they know how. So, if you want to get around that weakness you have a couple logical choices: either make genjutsu that the subject doesn't realize they are in, or make genjutsu that the subject doesn't want to leave. Good to know, probably worth bearing in mind for crafting illusions, but what about making a genjutsu the enemy doesn't want to leave?

Who says you only use genjutsu on enemies? If the greatest weakness of genjutsu is that people can "opt out" of it, then using it on enemies seems silly. Why not use it beneficially on one's self or allies? There has got to be some ways of doing that. Genjutsu buffs! Genjutsu painkillers! Genjutsu augmented reality! Genjutsu messages! Genjutsu massages?

Enough segue, let me get to the point.

Fact: Genjutsu is the art of using chakra to alter the sensory experiences of an individual.

Fact: Genjutsu is not constrained by normal time perception. (I realize this one is only demonstrated with Tsukkomi but it shouldn't entirely be out of the realm of possibility for other genjutsu in some capacity.)

To be blunt: I am thinking of a genjutsu for use on self or allies capable of dilating time perception and filtering experiences (damping pain, etc.) for use in combat -- a combat trance genjutsu if you will. Self would probably be easiest, essentially a genjutsu with a range of zero. And flavor wise the fit is great, I think. It could be a way for Tsuki to take the brutal chaos of combat and make it elegant -- every move selected with care and consideration for maximum effect, like a game of shogi, and yet taking place in the briefest of moments.

To my mind, such a genjutsu would be demanding and require a great deal of training to sustain for long, not to mention she would have to condition herself to go into and out of it with a minimum of effort and thought. But consider the payoff! It also would synergize well with afterglow as she becomes stronger and faster and harder to keep up with.
>>
>>568066
eh it's too late for puppets, I was all for them at first but I think just a bit of supplementary gadgetry is enough with Tsuki's stellar release.

I like the idea of genjutsu, but the problem I see with it is like this: the real high level enemies that are actually a major challenge will tend to be good enough to not be affected by it.

On the other hand, we are indeed pretty well suited for it and our sensei is perhaps the best genjutsu guy around (even if it is sharingan bullshit). Maybe if we had something pretty subtle that doesn't count as an insta-win if it succeeds, but is hard to notice/dispel and useful for cunning plans?

After all of Nori’s prodding about climbing trees, you certainly didn’t think you’d be up one again so soon, but here you are, scoping out your family home just before midnight.

The grounds of the Norihime manor are normally quite peaceful at night, with little need for security. With the added guard details Maru added at your request, however, your home looks more like a fortress- with floodlights and timed patrols making their rounds.

The Norihime never do anything halfway.

Of course, your flight from home earlier in the day likely hasn’t helped matters.
You’d decided that talking to Danzo before embarking on your training was the best course of actions- but now you aren’t entirely sure. Obviously, as the heiress, all of these guards will recognize you- entering will not be an issue. However, you haven’t decided if that is a good thing or not- if they catch you, Maru will know in short order; and when Maru is told, so will Father.

Quite the conundrum, really.

Should you…

1. Sneak into your own home? You can surely get inside without to much hassle, right? Easy in and out, talk to Danzo, pack your things. No stress.

2. Present yourself. Make everyone’s lives easier- except maybe your own.
>>
>>568111
We're missing rabbit fags.
>>
>>568099

Actually, a small puppet might still be doable.

Parts of why Kaguya acts terribly is because of her overwhelming power which has corrupted her to quite a big extend. If we had her manifest here in a purely physical form without much powers, she might learn to enjoy and see the world from how we view it which might be able to prevent her from going full End the World.

Of course, there'll be safeguards like we needing to be close to the puppet for it to function, etc.

And that pisses me off more then anything, if your character can't fail what is the point? Compelling characters have arcs, they make mistakes, they learn from them or sometimes don't, they fail and lose. If we're powersperging, we can get our hands back on that flower and figure out how to pull a Zetsu and get chakra stealing, corpse eating, and possibly presence hiding powers. We're gonna need to get rid of bodies, and Tsuki is thirsty for chakra, might as well kill two birds with one stone.

>>568404
Not even a punch, it was a straight up bitch slap.

>>568404

>>
>>568413

>>568403
But would her pride let her do that? Admit that she was in the wrong when she clearly wasn't?
>>
>>568450
We aren't saying we are wrong. We are just saying how did it was poor and thought out, and we would have done it anyways. Roughly.
>>
>>568434
We had some of the top leaf jonin against some mooks who weren't even ninjas. Of course we won. Tsuki shouldn't have been even scratched though. She thought they were beneath her notice (was kinda right too) and because of that she let her guard down. Ok, we just rolled badly. But in story terms, she screwed up because she wasn't taking them seriously as a threat.
>>
>>568465
That is correct. But some anons like to think we got KO'd for some reason.
>>
>>568450
Well, it's one thing to admit your mistakes to the people who practically raised you and quite another to do so to a complete stranger or a clueless barbarian like Nori
>>
>>568465
That she did. And it was a lesson shes learnt from. Save Gaara but then again, dealing with a Tailed host is always abit of a toss up.
>>
>>568477
And finding out a dark secret about you that was hidden is a betrayal. Finding out we were engineered to have this power is a big thing to deal with. It brings up the question were we just made to be a weapon for the leaf? Did we really have any choice on the path we were going to take?
>>
>>568492
We aren't going rogue yet anon.
>>
>>568492
I mean, we only know that Danzo and Not-Dead Dad knew, the rest of the staff probably have no clue, they maybe just saw their beloved "princess" storm out with tears in her eyes and feel shitty about it.

No- it’s best to be mature about this. Sneaking away leaving everyone in the dark is irresponsible, and while father might deserve that, Maru and the others certainly don’t.

You only hope they appreciate this sacrifice.

You hop down from the tree, and make for the front door, keeping a casual pace. It isn’t long before the guards spot you- although they seem rather unsure as to how to approach you.

“Ah- Mistress Tsuki! You’ve returned- Ms. Maru and your Father have been quite worried, and-”

“Yes, I understand. Go on, tell Maru I’ve returned. Surely there’s no need for alarm; I haven’t even been gone a day.” you state calmly, trying to override the guard before he gets overzealous.

You don’t want him making a scene- this is going to be tedious enough as it is.

The guard salutes somewhat awkwardly, before running off to report your return.

“Good thing he’s loyal, even when selling me out.” you chuckle inwardly.

--------------------------------------

You wait for Maru in the garden, taking a seat beside the large fountain at the center. The water sparkles, reflecting the bright moonlight from above. It’s relaxing, and a good place to meet your tempestuous head maid.

“Tsuki-dono!” Maru’s voice calls out, drawing your attention to the entrance of the manor.

As she approaches you, her features become clearer- still in uniform, Maru looks very tired. Mentally, you chastise yourself- Maru is always up before dawn, and surely hasn’t slept. The woman has likely run herself ragged.

When she sits next to you, however, there is no anger in her voice; only relief.

“Tsuki-dono. I’m not privy to what happened between you and Danzo- but please, don’t be too hard on either him or your Father. They only want what’s best for you; we all do.”

Your anger, which had subsided earlier, can be felt bubbling back to the surface- if only slightly.

She doesn’t know- and even if she did, what does it matter? She couldn’t understand.

Maru.” you say, putting on a smile that borders on saccharine.

I appreciate the concern all of you have shown for me. I revealed myself to ease that concern- as not to place an undue burden upon you. However- as you said, you don’t know what happened; so I ask you do not instruct me how I should proceed.

She seems a bit taken aback by how cold the remark is- and maybe it was a bit much.

But you aren’t going to be scolded like a spoiled child. Especially not over this.

Tsuki speaking in colored text will have purpose vs. her not speaking in text. Generally.

If it annoys people, I might not use it, though.

No need to not take advantage of the benefits of this board.

Holy shit, Tsuki is ice cold!

I'm fine with it.
I've actually never seen a QM use colored text on /qst/ before
>>
>>568492
To be honest, I think the following questions are more pertinent to Tsuki right now:

>Did my dad know the procedure was risky?
>Did he consider it an acceptable risk?
>If so, what did he have to gain? Is he just using me for himself, or is his aim to bring more power to the Norihime family (i.e. me)?
>If our dad considered my mother acceptable collateral damage, what kind of man does that make him?
>What does that make me?
>Danzo knew about my power and kept it back. Meanwhile he's been treating me like some sort of protege ever since I was young. The Uchiha head (Sasuke's dad?) called me Danzo's pawn. Am I a pawn?
>What about Orochimaru? What does he want with me, and will he be targetting me? Is he going to come back to collect his experiment?
>>
>>568528

It's fine.

Just new.

We'll get used to it.

It really REALLY bothers me how mad Tsuki is about all this.

It's been a matter of hours since she discovered that her dad and closest confidant were complicit in working with a traitor to her village who used a procedure that created her and killed her mother, all in the name of the village and prestige.

“Your Father has locked himself in his study, and Danzo hasn’t been seen since this morning, Tsuki-dono!”

There’s the anger you expected. Maru cares, and that’s the source of it- even if she doesn’t know her anger is misguided.

“You could’ve let us know- even a word of explanation would’ve sufficed!” she exclaims.

I’m here now. Am I not free to free to do as I wish? This is certainly not the longest I’ve been absent from the manor.” You respond, calmly.

Your lack of emotion only seems to infuriate your made further- before she breaks down in tears.

“Tsuki-dono, I…” she mumbles, before embracing you in a hug.

“We were worried. It was so unlike you to just leave- and Danzo was so concerned that you might leave the village, that I….”

You sigh, and return the hug. Maru doesn’t deserve this- your anger is better reserved for Father and Danzo.

“I’m sorry, Maru. I cannot tell you about it right now, but there were reasons why I left- and I’ll be leaving again for a while, to train for the next round of exams. It wouldn’t have felt right not to tell you.” you murmur, hugging your head maid tightly.

“I understand, Tsuki-dono. Just know that I’ll always be here for you- never feel like you cannot come to me if you feel distressed.”

You smile faintly in her embrace. No, she deserves only the best. Not this cold anger.

For a few moments, you simply continue to embrace, without a word spoken.

“Alright, I need to speak with Danzo before I pack my things. I know you’ll need to tell Father I’m here- but I’d really rather not talk to him right now, if it can be avoided…” you explain, breaking the hug.

Maru nods, before biting her finger in thought.

“It might be hard to predict how Master Yoru will react. It’s been some time since he’s locked himself away….”

Maybe you’ll get lucky and the old man will stay locked up in his hole for a while- before he tries to brush it all under the rug. If you’re lucky.

Maru bows before heading inside, and you quickly follow suit. As she heads upstairs, you make for the cellar, where Danzo’s room is.

Even if he think’s he’s hiding, you have a pretty good idea where he is.

His room is empty, but once you open the panel to the elevator, you can see it’s been engaged.

He’s getting predictable in his old age.

Pulling out the key you swiped from his desk earlier, you proceed to engage the ignition for the elevator to the ROOT facility.

As the machine groans and grinds down the shaft, you have another moment to yourself- just to think. You committed to speaking with him, but haven’t really decided what you want to say….

1. Apologize. You shouldn’t have stormed out- and he’s not nearly as at fault as Father is.
2. Strictly business. Let him know that you're leaving for training, and when you will return. If you feel up to it, the two of you can discuss matters when you return.

3. Clear the air. You won’t apologize, but you don’t want Danzo dwelling on a matter he played so little a part in.

4. Leverage the guilt. He and Father are both to blame, and thus, if he wishes to redeem himself, he’ll need to make it up to you- first, he can tell you all he knows.

Agreed. This is far more in character than apologizing, especially given the fact that Tsuki is a fairly prideful person. Even if she wasn't, it hasn't even been a day, and she just learned some prettybad things about her dad, and that Danzo at least knew about it and didn't tell her. I'd be confused if she weren't still pissed.

He's been better to her than her dad has, but he's still involved.
>>
>>568888

On reading back the previous thread, according to him, Danzo provided council when Tsuki's mom asked him.

>“Your parents… Yoru and Asa…. Both of them knew Orochimaru. Your father is always susceptible to innovation- and when they were pitched the idea, when he told them just how much power it could bring your family….”

>“Yoru jumped on it. Of course, he wouldn’t force Asa into anything- while she had reservations, she saw how it could benefit the family, benefit Konoha- and benefit you, her unborn daughter. You would be unique among this world of warring Shinobi- you would have a power nobody else in history could ever boast of.”

>“When one of the most prolific Shinobi in your village’s history offers to make your daughter the next Hashirama Senju, do you decline? Do you dare withhold that potential from the world?”

>“That was Yoru’s stance. Asa saw the reason in it- and asked my council. I…. agreed, that it would be a risk worth undertaking, to preserve Konoha’s future.

The entire procedure might have just been on pedosnek's head but of course, this is just only on danzo's word.
>>
>>568833
Honestly, I still don't 100% trust Danzo. He's capable of some really shady shit, and is very good at justifying it to himself.

He's going down in about 500 episodes when we're finally strong enough to fight him.
>>
>>568913
Because "you hurt the ones closest to you".

Yes it doesnt make full logical sense but it does make emotional sense, seeing that tsuki right now is reeling abit from the sense of betrayal. It'll take abit longer before those feelings subside.
>>
>>568913
Orochimaru deserves a lot of the hate, don't get me wrong, but Father and Danzo still had a hand in it. They may not have known the full consequences of the decision, but ignorance does not make them fully innocent.

I'm all for making up with them in the near future, but not the same day we learned this.
>>
>>568937
It's not illogical to be upset with them.
>>
>>568913
Tsuki is a fairly immature and arrogant young girl. She just learned that a man who could have killed her at any time helped give her powers that threaten to hurt her anytime she uses them, killed her mother, and her father was all for it.

She is upset and lashing out at anyone, as evidenced with Maru. Her father was the biggest influence that had a hand in it that she could affect. Shes lashing out, not fully understanding where she should truly direct her anger
>>
>>568963
better put than what I was about to vomit out
>>
>lashing out at anyone, as evidenced with Maru.

Incorrect. She could have bitten the head off of her teammates, the guard and the maid at the front gate.

Head maid made the mistake of automatically assume Tsuki was at fault. It wasn't "What did Danzo and your father do to upset you?" It was, "What do you think you've been doing little lady!"
>>
>>569003
Dude, she isn't disowning them or leaving forever, she's just rightfully mad at both of them.

>>
>>569003
Its not really half a story, considering that tsuki actually does have the stella chakra and pedosnek himself approached us to want to see it in action.
>>
>>568988
Yeah, exactly. Tsuki's has nothing but legitimate reasons to be angry with her dad and Danzo right now, to say nothing of Orochimaru (I don't get where people think we're not blaming him for a thing he explicitly did), and Maru's first response was to try and rein her in like she was a little girl who should really know better than to make everyone worry like that.

Maru only got some of Tsuki's anger because she handled things really poorly, and even then Tsuki cooled her head almost immediately. Tsuki isn't lashing out indiscriminately.
>>

The elevator sputters to a stop, and you lift the security cage.

Sure enough, the old Shinobi sits at his desk, thumbing through a book, though it’s unclear what it is.

As you approach, he doesn’t look up.

“Danzo, it’s not polite to scorn a lady when she enters a room.” you chide, though not with malice.

“Tsuki-dono, I…” he starts, still not making eye-contact.

“Danzo. That wasn’t what we agreed upon. I’m here to talk.” you scold.

He closes the book, and returns your gaze.

“I’m sorry, Tsuki.” he says, his face still mournful.

The past is the past, Danzo. You can’t bring her back, or undo what's been done. But- don’t apologize. I’m not quite ready to forgive either you or father.” you respond.

His shoulders sag a bit, but he says nothing.

“However, just because I haven’t forgiven you doesn’t mean I’m going to hold it against you. Besides, it doesn’t fit a shinobi of your caliber to wallow in sadness. If you’re truly sorry, I’d have you redouble your efforts- Konoha is weaker without your counsel.”

“ROOT again? Tsuki, as I said before, doing such a thing under Minato’s nose isn’t advisable…” he says, though he doesn’t sound nearly as sure of himself as he once did.

I’d have us be prepared, if nothing else. Everything for Konoha’s safety, right?” you dig.

The old shinobi winces a bit, before sighing.
“Very well, Tsuki. I’ll catalog what repairs or enhancement the facility may need- along with preparing a list of former and prospective agents. I assume you are not staying for your month of training?” he concedes.

“No, I’ve decided to train with Itachi-sensei. One of the reasons I came back was to let you know- it’s for the best if everyone isn’t working through a malaise.” you explain.

Danzo deflates even further, but doesn’t say anything.

He likely knows it won’t make a difference.

“I’ll be gone for several weeks- I expect we’ll be having some in depth conversation when I return. Don’t let me down, Danzo.”

He takes a breath, then stands.

“It will be done. If you need me, I’ll be here.” he says.

“I’ll keep that in mind. Farewell, Danzo.” you say, walking back towards the elevator.

>Oh really because it looks to me like these anons in the thread are ready to linch our Father
Only just found the thread so I can't speak for others but I view it more as Tsuki found out that two people she trusts allowed someone she personally considers to be a monster to diddle with her while she was in utero and that very well could have killed her mother. Its also doesn't help that in an earlier thread Danzo made up some reason saying Orochimaru and his people where brought in to help mama Tsuki during childbirth. And blamed her death on Minato and his people.

>I would think Tsuki would be smart enough not to fly of the handle as soon as
Tsuki had just gone through a very tough couple of days. It doesn't matter how smart she is Emotions can come in and fuck you up without warning.
>>
>>569028

Right. I mean first off we have pedosnek coming to the chuunin exams, also explicitly telling us to show off the stella release for him to see, when no one else save Danzo had actually witnessed us using it.

Considering our knowledge of root, that orochimaru had left Konoha and how Danzo looks at traitors, theres hardly any chance Danzo would have told pedosnek about stella release after we revealed it to Danzo.

Then when we speak with Danzo about the how and why Orochimaru knows of our chakra release, he basically implicates himself and father as being complicit in the genetic engineering of Tsuki and the eventual death of Tsuki's mom.

This is basically a confession. Not like someone else telling us that Danzo, orochimaru and father were in on this. The primary actors in have all but confessed to it.
>>
>>569028
we aren't advocating anything as severe as you may think. mast of the "don't forgive them yet" camp do want to have an eventual reconciliation, just after some time has passed. This just doesn't seem like the sort of thing you put past you within a day of hearing it.

I can understand why Tsuki would be mad but i just thought she would be mature enough to handle this better and not flip out on two men who are probably regret the decision everyday of their lives.
My whole thing is that as far as we know Danzo and Father aren't villains and shouldn't be treated like this after spending their whole lives trying to make it up to us by providing us with a good life.

Plus, it's anti-Sharingan training. Who has that? Pretty much nobody.
>>
>>569150
The obvious anti-sharingan move is to stab at where a dick would be on us while he's copying us.

Either he drops the sharingan or loses his bits
>>
>>569156
It gives us an edge against one person we might not even get to fight while stopping us from getting stronger overall. And we can learn it after the exams if we want that skill, and if you say it will be useless then you are proving my point

Anti-sharingan training actually is pretty useful in-universe. Considering that theres a whole clan of them now, not like in original where there were only a handful of uchihas left.

When you exit Danzo’s chambers, you’re greeted by a rather concerned Maru.

“Your father hasn’t responded to me, Tsuki-dono. I know you haven’t forgiven him, but…. Maybe he’ll respond to you? You were always able to before…” she reports.

That is… a half truth. Father shutting himself into his office is not horribly uncommon, and the rules of the house generally say he is not be disturbed except in emergencies when this occurs.

Usually, he’s in the throws of invention- he doesn’t want to lose his train of thought, or be otherwise distracted. Father is… a passionate man, after all.

However, on the furthest edges of your memory, there are other occasions where the door was shut. Loud, angry noises, shouts and sobs. It had not happened in years, but even as a small girl, you had learned it was always best to leave Father to his devices if he wanted to be alone.

Maru knows this. She’s been here since as long as you can remember. So why now? Why would she suggest you break that rule?

“Maru, I don’t think that’s wise. Surely he heard you- and simply doesn’t wish to be disturbed?” you ask.

“I… am unsure, Tsuki-dono. He and Danzo had a private discussion- after which, your father stormed off into his study, bolting the door behind him.” Maru explains.

Wonderful.

You…

1. Attempt to talk to father, as much as you don’t want to.

2. Do something non-committal, like slipping a note under his door.

3. Don’t talk to him. You aren’t ready for that conversation, especially if Father is in a mood.

Only one I think.
The other is literally "secure my child's future by any means necessary"
Orochimaru obviously only saw us as a weapon.

>>
You take a deep breath. This could go any which way, and the only thing you’re confident in is that is this a bad idea.

“Fine, Maru. Stay here- it’s best I talk to him alone.” you instruct.

Father pays lip service to Maru most of the time, but her presence won’t help now.

You trudge up the stairs, making the long walk down the hallway to where his office lies.

The door looms in the distance, and when you walk up to it, a small knot forms in your stomach.

You don’t want to do this.

But, here you are.

You gently rap on the door, before announcing myself.

Father, I’ve returned.” you state simply.

After a moment, the door unlocks, but does not open.

Finally, he speaks.

Enter.

His voice is cold, and without emotion- very unlike your father.

As you enter, the first thing you notice is that his desk is empty. No paperwork, no sketches, no maps.

It’s completely clean.

On the far side of the room, Yoru Norihime sits, wearing a fine suit, swirling a glass of wine.

Take a seat, Tsuki.” he says, gesturing to the plush green armchair across from his.

The fall night’s breeze makes you shiver slightly as you walk towards the fireplace, sitting down in the chair as instructed.

Across from you is your Father. His face is an impartial mask.

Go ahead, Tsuki. Say what’s on your mind.

Yoru takes a drink of wine, his gaze unbroken.

To the point, then.

I’m going to be leaving for training soon. Thought it would be best for you to know.” you state flatly.

So you aren’t going with me to the Capital, then? Disappointing.” he responds.

No, I’ll be with Itachi-sensei. The third round is soon.” you explain.

Ah, the Uchiha boy. Made quite an impression on you, hasn’t he? I must say, I think I preferred your first teacher.

…? Why would he…
>>
>>569392
Well, it's entirely fair to say as a fetus they were like "worse case scenario the wife can have another" like you do when you're an amoral science jockey.

But once we got here that changed.

Is this really the same thread where people were volunteering to be a battery for a flying fortress?

Or is this a case of "oh no, how could amoral Tony Stark experiment on something he had no emotional investment in at the time."?

Because I'm still not seeing a reason to tantrum super hard.

Your father’s gaze trails off, looking out the window.

You’re trying hard to suppress your anger, Tsuki. That cold expression you just gave me? It’s the one I see in the mirror.

You feel the mask crack, just a bit.

Father- that’s hardly appropriate. Don’t direct your anger toward Itachi-sensei just because I found out about mother.” you retort.

His eyes snap back to yours.

I merely stated an opinion. Shinobi or not, I am entitled to it.

So, since you so tenderly broached the topic, my dear daughter- what is it you have to say about your mother?

Do you blame me? Am I some sort of monster?

You are rather lost for words...

This world is dangerous, Tsuki. As a shinobi, you have experienced it first hand. This peace- it will not last. In wartime, I am the generous benefactor, the one who’s technology and munitions helped turn the tide of the conflict! But in peace? I am no longer needed. Superfluous to this idea of a lasting peace between the nations. The Third lied to himself, and the Fourth is a fool. I’ve been to every corner of this world, seen the people who populate these lands.

Father, I don’t-

I have done more for the defense of Konoha and the Land of Fire in these last 13 years than the Fourth has done in his lifetime. He is a powerful shinobi, certainly. But his ideals blind him from the truth.

He takes another drink of wine.

Your mother saw my way of thinking. She cared for you, of course. Worried how it might affect you- she never once worried about herself. He did not lie to us, Tsuki. Do not let his current actions blind you to what he offered. The power you wield came at the cost of your mother’s life- but only because He was not here to finish the procedure.

Do I regret your mother’s death? Of course I do. She was my beloved wife- just as you are my beloved daughter.

It's fomenting war and destruction for no readily discernable purpose.

For reference, after all the shit tha went down Danzo is living alone in a basement stripped of all power and authority, and Orochimaru is hiding out in a literal hole in the ground in another country, while Yoru is Living in a giant mansion INSIDE KONOHA, STILL WORKING LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! there's absolutely no way in hell that he wasn't involved in everything those two did, and he's walking free because he's THAT IMPORTANT!

You go ahead and try to convince him to do that, but something tells me there's a reason he's not doing that already, assuming he isn't.

Generally the military of a major country pays a lot better than civilians in an electronics store, particularly the ones with the most military power.
>>
However, you now sit before me- the promise he made to us fulfilled. You have enormous potential- and if you are anything like me, you would never dare to squander it.

I’ve given you as much as I can. The best instructors, a secure upbringing- even powerful social connections that will last you long after I’m dead. I’ve done everything I could do to give you everything I never had.

Danzo said that you called yourself a weapon. In a sense, that is correct. You are that, and so much more. Orochimaru promised us the next Hashirama Senju, and he delivered.

I made this family. I brought us out of nothing to the absolute peak of society. But you are it’s scion- and nobody will deny you.

He sneers.

I love this village. I was born here, raised among the streets as a civilian. I’ve watched it be nearly destroyed- twice. Of course, my counsel is barely heeded- I am no shinobi. I’ve been fortunate the daimyo heeds my council.

“Your mother’s death was painful for me. It plagues me to this very day that I didn’t have the power to save her- But your mother never regretted her choice. Neither do I. Sitting in front of me is Asa’s legacy, my dear daughter.”

So, I’ll ask you again. Am I a monster?

No, you aren’t a monster. You’ve done everything you needed to do, with a purpose in mind. Deep down, I knew that. But, was it worth Mother’s life? I…

Father’s face softens.

I know, Tsuki. I’ve dealt with those demons every single day since I lost her. My choices deprived you of your mother. I understand if you hate me for it. But, I must believe that it was worth it- That your mother’s sacrifice will lead to better world.

You’re still angry.

Angry at your father for being factually correct.

Angry at the Shinobi for being so rigid.

Angry Danzo for his inaction.

Angry at the entire world, for taking your mother away from you.

But you have no true outlet for these feelings-

And for the second time today, you begin to cry.

I haven’t forgiven you. I haven’t forgiven Mother, and I haven’t forgiven Danzo. But- I see your reasoning. You aren’t a monster, Father. If nothing else, mother’s sacrifice will not be in vain.

I understand, my precious daughter. Go, do your training under the Uchiha boy. Take what lessons he can teach you and grow strong. Show everyone how strong the Norihime are!

The impassive mask has fallen away, and your father’s smiling face returns.

Your emotions still rage within you… but you don’t have time to deal with them right now.

You leave your Father’s office, return to your room, and pack your things.

Sensei’s awaits- it’s time you begin your training.

>>
>inb4 Wargle calls it a night as we leave the manor
>>
You leave the Manor, saying goodbye to Maru as you do so. Your bags are slung over your shoulder, packed with only the bare essentials. You make the long, winding walk down the Hokage monument, enjoying the view of Konoha at peace.

It’s beautiful, and it’s home. Your’s, your Father’s, and your Mother’s.

It’s Hinata’s, and Nori’s and Itachi’s.

Danzo’s, Maru’s, Sasuke’s, Lee’s, Sakura’s, Ino’s, TenTen’s….

You continue to list off names for a while, before trailing off into silence.

Eventually, you make your way to Itachi’s apartment, in the urban center of Konoha.

It’s probably close to three in the morning, you realize- you hope he doesn’t mind.

You knock softly on the door, and after a few moments, Itachi opens the door- albeit, in his sleepwear.

“Oh, uh, sorry sensei- I just, you know, didn’t get to tell you what I wanted to do for my training…. And I had bit of an event at home, and I missed dinner, and-” you ramble.

Your prattling is abruptly ended by a poke to the forehead.

“Come on in. There’s room for you on the couch- we can start your training in the morning.” he says, giving you a sleepy smile.

Oh no. Oh shit. Fuck.

Orochimaru was responsible for making Tsuki who she is.

But the ones who killed Tsuki's mom would be either Danzo, Dad or herself.

Orochimaru wasn't there to suppress the stella chakra when Tsuki was born because he was exiled so he didn't finish the procedure.

But no other medical-nin was sought to replace him during the birthing. That he was exiled before the procedure was finished likely meant it was before Tsuki's mom was due to give birth. At any point of time, Danzo or Yoru could have approached Minato or even the 3rd for aid. The ruling Hokages are stuffy arseholes with too high morals. They might have banished Orochimaru but even they would balk at sacrificing the life of an innocent child for crimes she had no hand in. They might have placed the Norihime family under supervision but they would have brought in folks like tsunade or at the very least, elite ANBU medical-nin currently stationed in the village.

That Konoha has no record of stella chakra means that Danzo, Yoru or Asa felt that secrecy was more important than ensuring both the lives of Tsuki and Asa. But why? If this was for the village, the bloodline would have eventually come out into the open, like how Tsuki is planning to reveal it. Was this really for the village or for something else.
>>
>>569819
Best Sensei.
T.T sorry Ebisu-sensei, you could have been our bookish, weird, but legitimately cool adopted uncle. it just wasn't meant to be.
>>
>>569829
It was for the Norihime anon.
And for Tsuki. It just isn't necessarily what she wanted.

Don't forget whatever else she is, Tsuki is also the future of the Norihime family. It's understandable they'd want to secure her future from the word go.
>>
>>569829
Or, the means of creating and maintaining Tsuki's birth simply required skills that only Orochimaru possessed and, without him, the complications just killed Dead Mom.
>>

>>
So who is up for the Norihime going full arms dealer and training, arming and recruiting a force of PMC/Shinobi. They use little chakra skills, just training and tons of gear/poisons and insiders. The New ROOT shall not be an ANBU force. They will be unlike anything this world has ever seen.

A few hours later, he wakes you- much to your protest.

“Up, Tsuki Norihime! Today, we leave Konoha- to travel to the site of your training!”

“...and where might that be?” you grumble sleepily.

You had forgotten Itachi-sensei was more of a morning person than you….

“The most renowned training locale in the shinobi world- the Highlands of Guiana!” he says with enthusiasm.

“I’ve never heard of these highlands, sensei.” You mutter.

“All the better to show you, then. We’ll get breakfast as we leave- and I have some friends waiting there to meet you!”

“.....huh? Who could possibly be waiting for you?”

----------------------------

Your worst nightmare has come true. Waiting at the breakfast shop is none other than Hinata and Nori- with Nori wielding a portable camera.

“It’s time, Princess!” she laughs triumphantly

“We didn’t get to take one yesterday- so we’ll do it now, before you two leave!” Hinata says happily.

You mutter something vaguely resembling threats to Nori’s life, before Itachi takes possession of the camera.

“I’ll set the timer- everybody get in position! These pictures are an important shinobi tradition, after all!” he explains while fiddling with the device.

Finally, he sets it down, satisfied. As the timer begins to count down, he shunshin’s just behind the three of you- and pulls all of you in close.

Nori struggles and Hinata just laughs- and you smile.

Maybe it will all be worth it, in the end.

Fair but looking at Yoru, his skill at business meant the Norihime would already be properous and powerful. The kekki Genki means more power but it only translates to more influence if it is known and not hidden from the village, which means it would come out sooner or later. It doesn't make much sense for for secrecy to be more important than ensuring both mother and child's life.

>>569839
Still, no aid was sought after he was exiled. Why proceed with that delivery, knowing you and your child might die without medical attention, and not seek other help.

Also, if Tsuki is one of Orochimaru's secret projects, and Yoru and Danzo were complicit in it, wouldn't they have tried real hard to keep that on the down low?

I mean what could they have done? What would they have said?

"Yea, that Orochimaru is a maniac with no moral compass whatsoever, but we kind of need him because we turned Asa and her unborn child into one of his guinea pigs and would really like it if he was around to make sure things turn out alright."

For the record: there is no shortage of people to blame for Asa's death. The leaf leadership banishing (I think they actually tried to arrest him and he fled in canon) Orochimaru is plenty responsible for Tsuki's mom being dead from what we've been told.

Danzo? He is just a screwed up bit player in this. I think Tsuki needs to work this out a bit more him and her father and not run from her problems for the whole month. A shame her father is leaving town.

While it's true the US spends the most on military, you've got to factor in that it's a big industrious nation. To know who's really looking for a fight, You have to look at the percentage of the GDP is spent on the military, because in that regard the US isn't that high and has actually been dropping.
>>
And we're archived. Night, everyone- or morning, for everyone else.
>>
Oh crap, I just realized. With the revelation that her father and others tried playing god with Tsuki's life/fate, we now know that Tsuki has some serious common ground between her and Gaara, and all the other Jinchuriki for that matter.

The whole jinchuriki thing puts this in perspective actually. Yoru isn't some heartless aberration in this universe: sane, often caring and compassionate, parents seem to be doing outrageous, morally suspect things with their children all in the name of strengthening their homelands military power.

Huh. The accepted norm for morality seems to be somewhat different in Narutoverse. At least Yoru had the decency to feel bad about it. Lets definitely not write him, or anyone for that matter, off as "the bad guys" just yet.

Jesus, the more you look around, the more evidence of "War is hell" you can find. It seems to be a major theme of the series. No wonder Kaguya wanted peace at any cost. I still don't condone her methods but damn if she wasn't trying. Her heart very well might have been in the right place.
>>
I think the main issue with the Anti-Uchiha stuff that a lot of characters seem to have built into them is that QM's always fuck it up

Like we are never going to become anti uchiha because Wargle never showe us all the fuck ups they do, they are mentally ill and designed to crack and go insane and hatefilled, Danzo has seen time and time again good shinobi succumb to the stress involved with the job and crack and BECAUSE they are Uchiha when they crack they start killing allies, harbouring grudges that make no sense.

We havent been exposed to the frustration of trusting Uchihas only for them to fuck us over again and again and again.

Thats why people hate them, all the chances in the world mean squat when something in your brain forces you to be filled with hate.
>>
>>569900
Tsuki is in a somewhat odd place. We're in that spot where original naruto was in that we can mostly relate to alot of characters due to shared experiences while still not being treated like dirt.
>>
>>569829
I'd still blame dad ultimatly, because he didn't tell Minato about the experiment with Orochi and his wife. Minato is too soft not to have sent help which might have allowed her to live.
>>
>>569906
>Might
>Definitely broke laws that would get him and his wife executed for them doing it intentionally, and their property scavenged for the village

Is it really worth the 20% of having a headless mom corpse over a mom that died in childbirth anon?

It got one of the SANIN, the guys that can basically do no wrong in the village's eyes exiled when it came out he did that sort of thing.
>>
>>569914
The villages are little bitches. If they knew Orochimaru could grow them Stellar Spamming ninja they'd have denied him in public then begged for more behind closed doors. Fuck Minato and his way of ruling.
>>
>>569914

Its not like Asa and Yoru were out helping to abduct konoha ninjas off the streets.
>>
>>569923
>Executed how?

>>
>>569906
>>569914

The hard liners would not have let him go easy I suspect. As far as I understand, the Hokage isn't just a tyrant who can do as he pleases, he is just a fairly large cog in the machine of the nation.

It's all speculation, but I am willing to give the characters involved (who are supposed to be pretty intelligent individuals) the benefit of the doubt: if they didn't do something, it was probably because they felt like they couldn't or shouldn't and had good reason for it.
>>
>>569924
>>569923

Orochimaru was doing some reaaallly dark stuff.

Ever hear of accessory after the fact?

Yoru and Danzo and even Asa would have been cast in a very suspect light and probably punished severely for even slightly conspiring with Orochimaru.
>>
>>569928

Yes, i'd have expected punishment. Not execution.

From what we know, Asa and Yoru were just involved in volunteering for the experiment. So just party to the unethical experiment. There has been no indication that they were involved in the abductions of konoha nins and so execution would have been abit much.

Also Danzo was already stripped of his powers. I'm actually surprised Yoru seemingly made it out without much damage.
>>
>>569547
Interesting that Jiraiya also traveled the world and saw what a crapsack it is but it motivated him and strengthened his resolve instead.
>>
>>569932
Regardless it would have at least involved a lengthy prison sentence, and assuming they didn't put the mother and fetus down "to be on the safe side".
Then at the very least Norihime Industries would've been completely nationalized if it was left standing at all.

When dealing with stuff like that, anybody who wasn't our parents probably would have expected a weapon and/or monster.
>>
So should we tell Itachi about stellar release so he can help us train in it?
>>
>>569932
>>569941

Yea, what I was getting at was that the consequences were dire enough to make keeping it a secret worthwhile, regardless of what they were.

I mean, like I said: Yoru and Danzo are not stupid people. They must have had good reason to keep it secret.
>>
>>568826
Just woke up. I'm slightly mad at the result of this vote.
>>
>>569781
FUCK THIS SHIT.
>>
>>569781
>>569966

Yea, makes me want to steer Tsuki towards being more circumspect and contemplative and not just plain depressed and resentful.

She could use some perspective. Her father did more than just give her some spartan upbringing to groom her for being a living weapon, she was showered with love and opportunity and raised to be basically a decent well rounded person who happens to be inherently good at being a ninja should she so desire.

He displayed every intention of being supportive of her choices and didn't just coerce her into being a ninja. That was HER idea.

If you want to make the argument that she was led by the nose and manipulated into that, fine. Free will is a flawed idea anyway, it's just probably worth believing in regardless.
>>
Wargle please start showing off the Uchiha mental illness stuff, it's literally the whole reason there have been so many wars between them and other groups.

Neglecting it is removing a whole side to the story. It's like telling a story about how a childs mother is cold and resentful of your kind and wonderful grandfather, completely neglecting and not mentioning the fact that he raped and abused her all her childhood.

There are reasons why the Uchiha as a group are not trusted and you just wont let us decide what we think or ourselves because you jst dont show it. Itachi and Shisui where exceptions to their genes and I would argue Sasuke only really changed his ways when he acquired the Rinnegan which I think negated the crazy shit in his genes.

Anon, we've touched upon the curse of hatred several times. Hiruzen even mentioned it by name.

The political situation in Konoa currently is quite different than in canon- the Uchiha were not exiled, and the potential for the coup was talked through, rather than "Remove Uchiha'd".

At this point in canon Sasuke was just the grumpy kid on the team, with the crazy brother. Nothing about multigenerational curses or predistination towards evil.

I love you anon, but I would suggest going back and reading some of the sections the anons mentioned.

Hopefully it will do just that with the Kiba swords.
As for general gear, we did bring back a samurai's chakra conducting sword, and something could be developed from that, though I think that all natures can be applied to regular weapons on some level. There have bee shinobi throwing electrified kunais or setting shuriken on fire and stuff like that.

Anti sharingan basics
Kenjutsu Training
Chakra Scalpel
I figure we still want to overall improve our stats too, but this is just for specific things.
>>
>>574799
>>574792
Bad anons, chakra scalpel isn't something you just pick up, Tsunade herself was surprised and impressed by Kabuto being able to use it in a fight. He's literally the only person who EVER mastered it as a weapon, and that's when he was at the level of rewiring his entire nervous system in seconds, automatically regenerating his internal organs, bringing the dead back to life and surgically altering them to be his clones, and fusing multiple people's DNA into himself on the fly.

Instead, we should pick up chakra channeling/shape manipulation. Way simpler, and does everything you want the chakra scalpel to do but way easier and quicker to learn. You don't need to perfom in-combat brain surgery, you just want to stab people with elemental chakra. Think Asuma or Sasuke, not Kabuto.
>>
>>574828
It is a wish list.
>>
>>574828
Considering eagle said chakra scalpel would let us do that stuff without injury I'll stick with what I know will let us figure out how to do that. Even if it's just using it to apply stellar to our taijustu/kenjustu without burning ourselves with it
>>
>>574880
>>574859
But you don't actually want it. A wish list is a list of things you wish for, not random shit you don't want or need. You think you want Chakra Scalpels but you don't really, I'm correcting your opinion. Here's my wishlist as an example:

>chakra shaping/channeling
lightsabers
>stellar shunshin
warp speed
>a suit of that chakra-proof armor
if it can handle stellar we could spam aoes without worrying about vaporising ourselves. If there's a problem with chakra shaping, some of the gloves could help.
>shinju-assisted chakra stealing/sensing

Can't leave you guys alone for five minutes.

I mentioned chakra scalpel specifically when mixing stellar with standard Taijutsu was mentioned- it has nothing to do with mixing stellar with other weapons or tools, such as chakra armor.

Just ask me on twitter if you have a mechanical question, it's easier.

Indeed.

If only Tsuki was an elf. This quest would be so much better.

Nope, just that post. The ways of janitors are mysterious indeed.
>>
>>576937
We're talking about Wargle, who just tweeted that he was banned.
>>
>>576908
>>576912
Huh.
Well shit.
I'm too lazy to look. What bullshit is it?
>>
>>576936
Oh shit thanks for the link sempai.
>>
>>576944
I noticed. Guess I'm too full of myself, as if that's possible. Are they handing out rangebans anymore or can he just get a new IP? Will he have to pay the 4chan tax?
>>
>>576936
can't he appeal it since it's obviously a load of crap?
>>
>>576908
Goddammit mods, get your fucking shit together.

B& for being underage, personally I always suspected and commend our new moderator for his faithful and speedy execution of his duty and find myself disgusted with my UNKNOWING interactions with such a societal deviant.

Luckily the new brainwashing camps are wonderful places with great food and friendly teachers. I am sure Comrade Wargle will enjoy his stay and come back to us the man he is supposed to be.
>>
>>576971
He went to the appeal thing and it told him, "you are not banned."
>>
Is there some type of system where a friendly anon can post in his name while hes banned.
>>
Alright faggots, Warg's got a new thread going.
