This quest was on hiatus since January but I am returning to life now. It will be open to new players and I will retcon small things or the things I dont remember from the old threads and I will give explainations for the new players with the reintroduction of the plot and characters so WELCOME and DONT WORRY.

For character informations, old threads and stuff:

>Summary: Year is 1983. You are in your second year in Hogwarts. Lord Voldemort was "killed" by the Boy Who Lived two years ago. . You are John Apise, only child of a rich pureblood family, you started Hogwarts last year. You love potions, herbology and magical beasts. You played as the Seeker last year in the Ravenclaw Quidditch team but you couldn't win the Quidditch cup. Your house though won the House Cup, which is not a small feat. You stopped the half vampire DADA professor at the end of the year and saved your friends lives. You are now in your second year.

>Second Year so far: Before the school year started, you went to Bordeaux with your dad and met with the new DADA professor there then you attended a Quidditch friendly match with your friend Tim but the match was disrupted by the attack of Death Eater remnants and you duelled with one of them briefly before he escaped, then you started the second year in the Hogwarts and managed to get in the Quidditch team again as the Seeker, you are a member of the book club, duelling club and your friend Valdis' astronomy club.

>Now: You have just returned to your home, Apise Manor, for the Christmas break. You will be staying at home before the second semester starts for a few weeks.

You are welcomed by your parents warmly and the house elves quickly carry your bags and stuff to your room. After Hogwarts, your old family home, which is quite impressive by any standard seems kind of smaller to you. Your mom asks you usual questions about how was the first semester and how were your friends while your father seems a bit preoccupied with his work these days.
You spend a couple of quiet days at home which is a welcome after the chaotic life of Hogwarts. You study some potions and read a book on mountain flowers to prepare yourself for the second semeter's Herbology class.
What would you like to do?
>Join mom and dad in the living room
>Start writing some letters to your class mates
>Mostly focus on studying for the next semester's classes
>Practice Quidditch and ask mom to join you as she was a legendary player back in her days

Yeah around 9 months. I just couldn't leave these characters and the story hanging unfinished.

>Things you have noticed during your stay back at home: Your father seems stressed, your mother seems a bit preoccupied, lot of newspapers hang around in the living room mostly involving articles of Rita Skeeter on your aunt and the new DADA professor. The gardens of the manor are completely white under a heavy snow blanket and the house elves are preparing for the upcoming christmas feast.

You head down to the living room to join your mom and dad. The room is quite big and lavishly decorated. Your mom, Joan is sitting near the fireplace her dark hair tied up behind her head and her lean figure is hunched over a piece of paper. She seems to be in the process of writing a letter.

Your father, Edward, seems a little angry and busy. You see he is calculating some numbers sitting at the big wooden table and you recognize the papers in front of him as "work stuff"

Your father realizes you entered the room and suddenly looks up to you, smiling, he seems to be trying to get his mind away from the work infront of him and look more cheerful to you. "Ah John! Good morning, son." then he continues with an apologetic tone "I know maybe you feel a bit alone these days... This time of the year is supposed to be more...cherful but you know we just have some serious business to attend to these days..."

He seems geniunly sad that he couldn't spend more time with you. Your mother on the other hand still looks concentrated on her letter.

>"No worries, dad. I know it's important to take care of our family business"
>"No problem, dad. Is there any way I can help?"
>"What business?"
>"If I know it was going to be like this I would have stayed at Hogwarts this month..." rolls eyes.

"No problem, dad. Is there any way I can help?" you ask, trying to be helpful and a good boy. Your father just sighs and says you shouldn't bother yourself with these boring things. Abruptly your mother cuts in. "He must know about these things so he can understand and protect himself, Edward." She says without taking her eyes off the paper in front of her.

"There is no need to bother the boy..." your father replies, tiredly. But your mom doesn't seem to accept this as an answer.

She puts down the feather and the paper and looks at your father. "He will hear things from here and there. He will hear people talk. Do you think students in Hogwarts don't like gossip? It is imperative that John knows what kind of attacks this family faces and how to defend himself."

that's a common practice here, you used to be able to do that for 3 days in a row in some cases, but things actually seem to have picked up a bit, that said 1 day should be perfectly solid even 2 would probably be ok since the weekend is ending and things will probably slow down further.

"Is this about my aunt, mom?"

She seems a bit pissed off. "Not only her." You remember your mom and your aunt was on cordial terms and only recently on last year's christmas they kind of made "peace".

"As you know your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was the judge on your aunt's trial and he found her not guilty..."

"Joan-" your father tries to cut her but she continues.

"And Professor Hevelius was a good friend of your father's father." You remember Professor met with you and your father in Bordeaux this summer when your father was conducting a business there. Professor Hevelius is an old man but he was a renowed wizard and defeated many dark wizards in his day.

"So now they are implying that we bribed him to acquit my sister."

"Joan...I think this might be too much for John." your father says softly. But your mother continues to speak in a fiery way. "No, Edward. John has grown up. He must understand the world we live in."

You feel a little glad that your mom thinks you have grown up.

"Yes, yes... of course...but everybody knows Professor Hevelius is uncorruptable. He is a paragon of good. This is just all nonsense media hype. Your Aunt was under the Imperus curse when she was caught in the Ministry, she was not a Death Eater. It will disappear soon....And don't you worry about this stuff John" Your father concludes.

>"Umm okay.. I don't quite understand this stuff but as you say father.
>"But why did this allegations start now?"
>"Where do you know the Professor from, dad?"
>"It sickens me to see how some people can attack my aunt in a such way!"
>"I wish my Grandfather was here to defend us now."

"It seems since we have met with the Professor in France, some journalist seen us and wanted to create a story like this. As if we were doing some shady business together." Your father replies.

"I still think he is in this, Edward. I think its a play by him..." your mother says finally returning to the letter in front of her.

Edward chooses not to say anything more on the subject and kind of returns to his work too.

>"Wait...who is he?"
>"Who the hell are you talking about?"

You feel regret, letting your curiousity overcome your better senses. Then she seems to calm down but still she looks like she doesn't want to talk on this nor she will tell you what she meant by "he".

"Anyway son, it's not important. I promise you we will finish this stuff soon and we can enjoy the dinner together this evening." Your father, the ever diplomat takes control of the situation.

"Sorry... I didn't mean to disrespect mother." you apologize. You have never seen your mother loose her cool like this before. This whole thing must be getting to her. Your father is also stressed but in general he has always been a calm person.

You take your cue as they don't want to speak more on this subject and leave them be until the dinner. You return to your room to study some more potions and take your mind off of this subject.

"Click" You hear something.

You ask the elf how can someone enter the compound without setting off alarms. He shrugs and says he doesn't know and starts apologizing. You tell him it's okay and don't get angry with the elf and proceed to report to your parents. Your mom takes out her wand and just bolts outside with your dad running after her. "Let's see who is this now. I am sure it's one of those "journalists" trying to get a story. I WILL give her a story..."

You also run after her. Your mother easily walks in the snow her black robes and hair generating a stark contrast to the white snow. You walk around the manor and finally arrive at the scene. And you find something quite strange there.

You see a girl, with black feathered wings with white tips coming out of her shoulders and her face almost has a beak instead of a nose and rest buried under snow. As much as you can tell she looks like the girl you saved in Bordeaux.

"What the hell?!" Thankfully your mother shares the feelings to rebuke you on your use of language this time. "She is my friend! Help her!"

"Your friend?" Your mother sounds shocked. Your father cathes up to you two and takes out his jacket to wrap around Astrid.

After a few minutes you are on your way back inside together with Astrid. She says she wanted to visit you but something went wrong on the way. She doesn't say why she decided to come though.

She speaks with a heavy accent and with lot of pidgeons in sentences. You can tell your father doesn't understand half of it but you and your mom do as both of you speak good French.

She says she drank a potion that should have turned her into a Magpie and it kind of did but right after she crossed the channel the spell started to get broken and almost crashed down when she arrived near your compound. Now she doesn't know what to do and she is stuck with a bird beak and some half developed wings.

Your father says he will contact the family healer right away and that he would find a way to reverse your friend back to her normal form.

After the initial annoyance your mother seems to quite like Astrid. The two get along well. When she finds an opening, Astrid whispers you why she arrived here,

"After you told me about your friend's divination..." You remember how your Gifted friend Glenn saw something in a cup of Turkish coffee about a foreign friend being in danger and you wrote that to Astrid in your letter. "I did a divination of my own... You know I am an Arithmancer...kind of...anyway... I saw some bad omens...I'll tell you later...I thought best to come he-" Your mom returns and she stops whispering.

You tell Astrid that she can stay here as long as she wants as she feels safe. She laughs. "Merci! But I must return to my school after Christmas...Mainly I came to warn you... Because I saw-" Your mother walks by again and the chat is abruptly stopped.

You don't tell anything to your parents and continue to wait until the Healer arrives. The Healer is a very, very old man. He examines Astrid and after half hour of strange questions and examinations he takes out a green berry you have never seen before and squashes it and tells Astrid to drink the juice.

She returns to normal in an hour after that. Cordelia comes out buzzing in the living room after Astrid returns to her normal self. Her bird appearance seemed to scare the bee off before.

At the next opportunity you two find to whisper she tells you, "I saw Death in my numbers. It appeared to me that you will have a connection with the Death...somehow."

I think it's less ofenssive then saying we don't believe in it. Besides, how to say that, the bad thing will happen because we start to worry about the divination? What i saying is trying to avoid it by using divination might be what will cause it.

Wow it just hit me...We warned Astrid about the divination, then she made a divination by herself that made her run and get in trouble. Since the spell ended in her way to our house. This could have actually killed her. So telling her about the divination was the event that made her be in danger.

You just shrug. "I don't really believe in divinations. And worrying about them isn't really wise. Just don't worry about it too much."

Astrid nods. "Well maybe you are right. But in any case I just wanted to leave my home for a while. Beauxbatons is just too much to handle sometimes."

You two spend some more time talking about school life and compare classes and crazy teachers with each other. You have a nice dinner with Astrid, your family and the Healer.

At least with the presence of this strange French girl your mom seems to be in a better mood than before.

You mostly spend your days chilling with Astrid. You already study a lot so spending a couple of off days with a friend shouldn't hurt right?

She tells you lot of stories about the Beauxbatons and how they teach and you two compare your schools and professors. She tells you why does she feel so much interest in Arithmancy. She genuinely seems fascinated by numbers and numerology. You feel somewhat bonded with Astrid. You are also glad that your mother was so accepting of her even though you think her family in France is no where near what your family has.

After a while of comparing schools of course the subject of who is better comes up and you decide to solve it by duelling. You two find an old dusty room with old furnitures inside at the attic and position yourself.

You bow down to each other and turn around, take three steps. 1, 2, 3,

You will try to disarm each other as quickly as possible.

Her wand flies away into one of the old furniture piles just right before she was about to finish her spell. Still you would have prefered to catch her wand in your hand but seems you need more practice for that.

She laughs. "We should face each other in a test of Arithmancy!" she jokes before both of you delve into the pile to find her wand. There are some boxes around that seems to have your mom's old stuff. There are some pictures with girls flying on broomsticks and a picture in the Velvet Room, the secret room in Hogwarts your mother taught you. You catch a glimpse of the wand and delve deeper to get it without checking out the pictures in detail.

You hand Astrid's wand back to her.

Astrid tells you that she doesn't get to brew many potions in Beauxbatons. "You see, after our second year it was elective to choose potions class or not and I didn't choose it. It's been actually almost a year since last time I brewed a potion. I am not really good at it either."

With this you decide to teach Astrid a new potion to brew. It will be also good for you to practice more before the classes start. You choose an easy one to brew. "This one is called Cure for Boils Potion."

She laughs and asks if it will be useful to cure her sister's acnes. You nod seriously and say, "Actually it might."

Then she look more interested. You set up the small boiler and your herbs and stuff and get the fire going.

Then you take all the prepared ingredients and start to add them slowly to the potion while casting some charms over it.

After you prepared the ingredients in a such perfect and fast way you get cocky and you start to pay less attention to the book infront of you and get caught up in chatting with Astrid more. Thankfully you realize you overcooked them a bit and take necessary precautions before its too late. You barely brew the potion. "Good thing I choose an easy one" you tell yourself feeling glad that you didnt emberass yourself.

You vial the potion and left it to cool. "And this is how you brew a boils cure potion, Astrid. What do you think?"

She geniunly seems impressed with your skills. She asks you how did you learn potions so good. You tell her it was just an interest you had even before you went to Hogwarts and you tell her your potions professor is really good too...although not many people like him.

[Potions study time added to your sheet]

Your chat is interrupted by one of your house elves. "Master Apise, a letter has come for you." He announces. You take the letter to check who is it from and you see the familiar beautiful handwriting of Anya. The letter is white with a stamp on it. The stamp reads as "from Ajara, Georgia"

Astrid asks you who is it from.

>"Just a classmate no big deal I will read later."
>"It's from one of my best friends! Let's read it!"
>"It's from someone special to me...I'll read later"

"Dear John,

I hope you are doing well. I wish you and your family a merry Christmas! My father returned from Korea last week as I told you he went there to check some plane crush. Really sad business! But now we are on a holiday for this Christmas! I am writing you from a small town called Batumi. It's next to the sea and with nice mountain scenery! I am yet to meet any wizards here but I am looking for them! My parents are quite enjoying themselves! How about you? I read about the news about your aunt and I want to tell you not to worry about this things. I know how you were upset before at Hogwarts. No matter what you will always have your friends with you! Take care John!"

Astrid also reads with you the letter but she seems a bit puzzled as she doesn't understand what does Anya refer to with the stuff about your aunt and she doesn't know where the hell is Georgia either.

Yet she doesn't say much to you. Astrid is a kind of person who keeps to herself and doesn't get involved with other people's personal lives. As long as there are no life threatening prophecies involved obviously.

You leave replying to Anya for a later time and head downstairs with Astrid for the Christmas dinner. Your mom and dad are wearing their formal robes and house elves are running around to prepare the room and do the last adjustments. There is only one guest who has already arrived. It's your uncle and your cousin. You greet your cousin Alfred friendly and introduce him to Astrid. Alfred is a 5th grader and around same age as Astrid. They seem to hit on quite well and chat together while you leave them for a bit to welcome the guests with your mom.

After some people you don't know, finally a guest you know arrives. It's Andromeda Tonks with her daughter Nymphadora. You remember your mom was assuring Andromeda to come saying that it was really nice last year when she came and assuring her that she did not invite Narcissa and that they didn't even talk for years.

"Oh my! You are getting bigger each time I see you John!" Andromeda kisses you on the cheeks. "Of course you remember my daughter." You do. You remember the special gift Nymphadora had about being a Metamorphmagus. Nymphadora will start Hogwarts next year.

You get the feeling that your mom is eavesdropping to your conversation but you carry on.

"Well Professor Flitwick of course, he is the head of my house...Profesor Sprout maybe...ah and Professor Snape, he teaches my favorite class."

Tonks says her favorite class will be the Defense Against the Dark Arts. She says her dream is to become an Auror one day. You tell her you prefer potioneering and magical beasts.

Cordelia buzzes in the room happily, taking a piece of the sweets as she passes and scaring some people. One house elf is assigned to the bee to keep her away from the dinning table it seems but he fails to control the animal most of the time.

After chatting for a while Tonks tells you that she wants to go to Hufflepuff and asks you some questions on Professor Sprout. Then finally it is time for the dinner. Just when everyone is getting ready to sit down your aunt arrives. You can feel the atmosphere changed a bit in the room but everyone continues to act as they were. She hugs your mom and they sit down. Andromeda sits near the end of the table and you sit next to Astrid and your cousin.

Your cousin asks you who do you think will win the Quidditch cup this year. You say it will be Ravenclaw as they are already ahead after the crushing victory against your cousin's house, Hufflepuff. He agrees and wishes you good luck. He doesn't seem to care much about it but then asks Astrid if they have also Quidditch cups in Beauxbatons.

Across the table sits the family Healer.

You join the conversation of your cousin and Astrid right when they are talking about sharks. Astrid says she goes to an island in Indian Ocean to visit some distant relatives and one of her relatives can turn himself into a shark as an animagus and that he kind of become crazy and turned his back to humans and started to live full time as a shark, going as far as attacking surfers.

Your cousin asks how you guys met and Astrid tells the heroic story of you saving her from a mugger. She leaves the parts about prophecy from the story and says she came to visit for Christmas.

Suddenly your cousin laughs and tells you something as if he just remembered. "Oh by the way John, you know Mary? Mary Arthur? I heard from a girl in Hufflepuff that she likes you!" Then laughs as if it is something really entertaining to him.

Mary Arthur was a girl at your age who you met in the Book Club.

Alfred just shurgs and says thats what he heard. "Better watch out John!" and then he laughs. You don't really get what is so funny about it but anyways.

Astrid says this kind of things don't happen Beauxbatons as usually the girls would come up to a boy and tell their feelings without the need for gossip. Alfred says he should visit France sometime and both laugh.

Meanwhile on the table your father proposes a toast for the Christmas and everyone drinks while shouting "Merry Christmas!" Cordelia seems a bit scared of the crowd and stays mostly out of sight.

From behind it is easy to confuse the too. But they have different eyes. "Hi aunt!" you say to her in a friendly manner. It takes a few second for her to hear you as she was in deep thinking. "Oh...hi John. How are you? How is school going?"

After the initial chit chat she says, "Thank you for your letter earlier this year. As I told you it is always best to talk face to face rather than letters. You never know who might be reading them before they reach to us. I don't trust the Ministry."

"Why were you not talking with mom until recently, aunt Luisa?"

You ask, hoping for a satisfying answer.

She just smiles and says it is normal between siblings to argue sometimes and then make peace. "Nothing to worry about, John. It was just some stupid things I don't even remember."

You are not very convinced but she doesn't seem to gonna give more detailed answer. "I wanted to ask you about the recent news..." you change the subject.

"This is all slander, John. I never did anything that is wrong." She says with a full confidence. "Also never forget this, your mother never did anything other than protect her family."

>"Yeah of course I already know that..

Your aunt seems quite proud and she seems geniune to you. "What should I say to Professor Hevelius?" you ask. She just shrugs, "Nothing. Why do you ask this? You don't need to do anything. It is just some stupid slander... it's an attack on our family that's all. Professor wouldn't say anything either I reckon."

Then you muster your courage and ask your aunt about people calling her a Death Eater.

She gets more serious now and tells you that this is a very dangerous accusation. "You should never repeat that anywhere, John. People talk and people attack us. People are stupid. Do you think your aunt should be in prison? This is not true and you should never listen to people who say this and never repeat this."

>"Sorry... I didn't know what I was saying."

After your cousin and uncle leaves Astrid tells you Alfred was a nice guy but kind of talks too much.

You raise your wand and cast Verdimillious. Green sparks shoot from your wand but the creature is too fast and agile. It starts to lower very fast and flies directly to your face. Some sparks hit it but it doesn't look like effected at all. The bat hits you on your chest and you fall on your back. It is on on your chest and you can feel its breath almost on your face. "Have you missed me Master Apise?" It asks, you instantly recognize the voice of your old DADA professor.

Grab the thing, it's just a bat for now.

You shout for help but thanks to your fall you feel like you don't have much it in you to make a loud sound. The bat keeps crawling to your face and you can feel the tips of its claws biting in you. You try to crawl away but it is surprisingly strong and doesn't let you. You try to grab it to keep it off.

Hoy. Well, nobody cares if we accidentally killed a bat..

You managed to grab it right before it was about to bite you in the face. You can smell it's breath and see it's sharp teeth.

"You can't be here! You're in Azkaban!" you shout trying to keep it away.

"You can't imprison Death, Master Apise!"

The bat comes closer and closer, you feel pain as it's claws dig into your skin.

The bat's face starts to change. Resembling half human half bat with very sharp teeth now.

"You will die now, Master Apise!"

Everything goes black.

"Master Apise!"

"You will be late now Master Apise!"

"Wake up!"

You jump on your bed with the letter you wrote to Anya on your chest. A house elf is looking at you next to your bed. "Master Apise! Good morning sir! Your mother ordered me to wake you up and..."

Your heart is still racing. You feel an extreme amount of relief.

...but this dream will haunt you for days to come. You are certain of it.

Haha, where's our DADA book?

>I think this was a nice run to reestablish the main plot of the second year and experiment with the new board. I think I might run again this week so check the twitter account @JVApiseQuest Thank you all for joining the resurrected quest and making it fun. I need to end this here now.

>Next thread: we will return to Hogwarts, Ravenclaw-Slytherin Quidditch match, probably Duelling or Book club and more!

>Lurking a little bit more before falling to sleep to answer questions.

Of course the one time I venture to check out quest threads I find a HP RPG going on.

Welp, time to read up on previous threads to get to the feel of this one and join the fray.

It's just too bad there's no Blue Ribbon of Ravenclaw.
Though I think John's mom was the Green Lightning of Slytherin.

huh since the thread is still here I guess I can continue running from here. not sure if I can today though. need to open some wine first!

>>570297
I hope you will like the stuff you read. the first thread is kind of character creation so you may skip it. it introduces Anya I think though...
>>

>asking to jump the character creation.

Most of the fun was in creating the MC. But that is just me.
>>
>>570297
You won't regret anon. Apise is the best and most responsible kid ever.
>>
>>571232
yeah it was quite fun actually true.

I cant imagine how this quest would have gone if they have chosen one of the other two families.

so this thread is auto sage now? I guess I will start a new one for the next thread then. not today though.
