You are in command over the Imperial Japanese Battleship Hyuga, starting at the very beginning of December 1941. Due to the will of players and that of the dice, history may go quite differently from what we know. For all intents and purposes, this is a wargame. It is incredibly important that you check the Pastebin link to familiarize yourself with the relatively simple dice mechanics, and to check it somewhat often as I may change important details of it as time goes on.

>Pastebin: http://pastebin.com/GFBJkDYz

>Twitter: https://twitter.com/boatkunqm

The date is December 4th, 1941. Your ship, the IJN Hyuga, is currently at anchor south of the Bonin Islands, along with your sister ship, Ise, as well as Nagato, Mutsu, Hosho, Wakaba, Nenohi, HHatsuharu, Hatsushimo, Ariake, Yugure, Shiratsuyu, Shigure, Mikazuki, and Yukaze. You have been presented with several options as to where to operate, and have been notified of the upcoming attack on the Americans at Pearl Harbor. Several other American strongholds will be attacked on December 7th and the coming weeks afterwards.

>You have been authorized with the choice to participate in one of the two following operations

I guess we're going to Wake Island.
>>
>>557229
You inform the higher ups that you will be participating in the Attack on Wake Island. You order to raise anchor, and your grand ship moves across the water, slowly picking up steam, and you set your course to Wake.

Two days later, you hear news that the attack on Pearl Harbor was successful, and the crew celebrates. Hyuga joins Yubari, Tenryu, Tatsuta, Oite, and Hayate, and assumes the role of Fleet Flagship for the Wake Invasion Force.

Hyuga reaches Wake on December 11th, as G3M3 bombers fly overhead, and pound much of the buildings and aircraft into dust.

You call for Battlestations, as you make preparations for shore bombardment, whilst moving closer to shore.

That was an oversight on my part. For all intents and purposes, the answer is yes.

The 14" guns thunder as they fling shells across the water and into Peale Island, destroying roads and buildings that hadn't been hit by the G3M3's bombs.

You continue moving closer to shore, heading southeast to Wake Island itself, and its airfield.

The rest of the fleet is bombarding Wilkes Island, and heading southwest to ensure maximum destruction, and is on their way to rendezvous with Hyuga at the southeastern tip of Wake Island.

Several splashes erupt behind you, spraying water onto the deck. A spotter reports a Northampton class Heavy Cruiser, and it's closing in on you, straddling your ship and getting each splash a little bit closer then the last.

(Enemy ship, USS Louisville)

>Engage USS Louisville at medium range - between about 10 and 20 km - with A, B turrets and our six portside forward 14cm guns.
>Continue shore bombardment with P, Q, X, Y turrets and eight starboard 14cm guns.
>If USS Louisville closes to less than 10km, turn to bring all six turrets to bear on her. Continue shelling ground targets with any 14cm guns in their direction.

USN cruiser gunnery is terribad, but 8" shells are still 8" shells - but at that range we're basically immune to her fire even if she does hit. Inside of about 10km Louisville actually has some chance of doing actual damage to us, so we should prioritise her if she manages to close the range.
>>
>>558223
Hyuga's guns turn towards the Louisville, while 8" shells hit the armor belt, failing to penetrate. The guns are loaded, and ready to blast the cruiser.

The 14" barrels roar and shock waves travel through the air. Well, four of the main guns do that, anyway. Turrets C and D are experiencing a jam, and are unable to fire for the next few minutes of exchange.

Several hits are landed on the Louisville, and the conning tower is alight, with a pillar of smoke reaching into the sky. However, the cruiser's guns are still operating, and it hasn't ceased putting rounds downrange, with few shells landing on Hyuga.

Hyuga's C and D turrets manage to get un-jammed, and begin to fall back in sync with the firing of the other guns. Many shells splash around Louisville, but a few land aft and manage to knock out its C turret, and lighting another fire as said turret's magazine detonates.

The heavy cruiser slows down. It won't be able to take much more punishment.

More of your shells slam into the Louisville, and it goes silent, with the exception of small explosions deep within itself. The Northampton class heavy cruiser sinks beneath the waves, as lifeboats row towards shore, but are sank by Hyuga's AA and secondary artillery. The enemy can't have more forces ashore during this landing operation.

Hyuga turns her guns back around, and resumes fire on Peale Island, and shortly reaches Wake. She prepares to fire on Wake's airstrip.

Question, if we sink do we end up with quest over? Also will be ever be moved to another ship, or even a higher weight class ship?
>>
>>559273
If we sink, odds are yes. It's also likely that I'll pick up from another ship involved in the same battle. If we nearly sink, it is very possible for us to get a large retrofit, e.g. BBV (Assuming we make it back to Kure). I have a few ideas for large retrofits other then BBV in such an event.
>>
>>559294
Gonna be honest, not a fucking clue what BBV means at all. Also, what type of large Refits?
>>
>>559316
BBV stands for aViation BBattleship, that is to say, a hybrid battleship-carrier, which sounds cool until you realise that it's terribly impractical.

I wonder what other sorts of refit Boat-Kun is thinking of. BBT, perhaps?

>>

>>559551
What Refits are we looking at? Any Super-heavies?
>>
>>559531
Hmmm... Gurren Lagann...
>>559554
I have ideas for 16 inch guns, and perhaps 18.1 inchers in double mounts. But that would be an incredibly extensive upgrade.
>>
>>559584
AA wise? They tell you to become an Avaiation battleship, So you absorb one of the carriers.
>>
>>559584
Can we have her painted red when we get retrofitted? Red is a proper color for a battleship.
>>
>>559636
I see where this is going... https://youtu.be/W5lhtuobmlM
>>559704
Red? Perhaps a lovely green camoflague (e.g. Zuihou), but I think our current color scheme works well.
>>
One of my other ideas is a "Large Heavy Cruiser - a night-battle specialised fast battleship that swaps out the heavy guns for hilarious numbers of 8" guns. Something like, for example, a 30x 8" broadside and 32x 24" torpedo tubes.

>>
>>559787
Iowa wrecks Hyuuga regardless. This is practically unavoidable.

... maybe if you convert Hyuuga into a semi-submersible battleship?
>Willy D accidentally rams SSB Hyuuga and sinks her
>>
>>559843
We could... but Hyuga physically can't be retofitted to that. It would be an entire new hull, with special guns.
>>
>>559796
Suprise? Like the Louisville? She wasnt actually at Wake. I put her there so we'd get a better experience with gunfire mechanics, aside from shooting at a huge, immobile island.
>>
>>559843
>>559940
Well couldn't we convert the Hyuga into a BB that could fight the Iowa?
>>
>>559748
Or maybe this? https://youtu.be/nMjH2jQJWk0
>>
>>559994
It would take a refit about twice as long to complete as the BBV refit. Note that the BBV refit occured because of the events at Midway, which are subject to change.
And when Midway happens, we'll get the choice between Midway and the Aleutians.

>>560053

>>
>>560068
The Aleutians are totally pointless. Midway was terribly executed, in any case.
>>
>>560068
The Aleutians were a distraction of sorts that occured the same time as Midway. Alaska was actually invaded by the Japanese.
And that isn't a no. It's more of a "Let's see what happens."
