Continuing from >>525533Archives: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=The%20Garden%20of%20CripplesWelcome back to The Garden of Cripples. I created a new thread since the last one was almost dead.Link to the archives: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=The%20Garden%20of%20CripplesIN THE LAST EPISODE:You investigated your former roommate, Kenji Setou, suspecting him to be a vampire. You developed a bond of friendship with the doll Mutou made to replace Suzu Suzuki, while also getting back in touch with your old friends Lilly, Hanako, Misha and Shizune. You fought Kenji, trying to turn him back into a human, but it was futile. The Suzu doll died in an attempt to save you.
When Mutou found you, you were wandering in a daze around town. A few people noticed a boy in Yamaku uniform walking around aimlessly in the early morning and reported the situation to the school immediately. Mutou came as soon as he could to pick you up.You don't remember much of what happened after the Suzu doll broke down. Your biggest fear is that you might have given in to your killer instincts. "Get a grip, Nakai", Mutou says abruptly as you walk towards the school."I killed him, professor. I killed the boy I was trying to save""He didn't look like he was particularly keen on saving you, however. Some losses are unavoidable""But I could have avoided this! I cut along his 'vampire' line, so why did he die?""Because it's not easy to kill something like that. It would have been different if it were just a bit of vampire blood circulating in his body, but the transformation had already took place. There's not much you could have done".Even if you know that Mutou is right, this isn't enough to placate your anxiety and your fears. The specter of murder haunts you in the most secluded and irrational part of your self. You were fighting against an human once, against your former classmate Miura. You even thought of killing her. What would have happened then? For an instant, you forgot the value of human life. If you had not corrected yourself in time, the blood of an innocent would have been on your hands.Suddenly, something dawns on you. You've left Mutou's replicant doll behind."Professor, we forgot about Suzu", you tell Mutou. "I mean, we forgot the doll. We should pick it up""No we didn't. I collected her modified arm, and that's it. That doll is lifeless by now, meaning that it looks more like a mannequin than anything else. She'll be reported missing at school, and that's honestly the best outcome I could hope for. Dolls have a very limited lifespan, we're lucky she didn't die inside the campus."'More like a mannequin than anything else'. Suzu hanging from the gallows she made for herself. Suzu dying in your arms after saving your life. These images flash in your mindYou feel faint, as if your consciousness were slowly drifting away. Mutou's hand on your shoulder brings you back to your senses once again."Get a grip, Nakai. For your own sake, get a grip".You nod. He's right, there's nothing you can do about it now. Yamaku's gate is in sight now, and the school is tinted with the colors of the sunrise. Another ordinary day begins. "Nakai, I am writing the report on your disappearance and I am blaming it on some side-effects of your accident. If you want to come to class, I won't stop you. But I would advise just staying in your room".
>>555355You evaluate your options. If you were to go to class, people would believe that you're recovering, meaning that you could leave the campus and visit the town. On the other hand, if you just took a day off, people would believe Mutou's story more easily.>Stay in your room>Come to class>Write-in============>error, number of characters: 3018/3000This really rustled my jimmies. Mutou is right. You can't afford to overwork yourself after an evening like that. You go to your room and collapse on the bed almost immediately. In your dreams, you're back in the alley in which you fought Kenji. The ground is stained by blood, and the wailing of the dead echoes through space and time. This scene.(Kill)This tragedy.(Kill kill)Wait in unavoidable?(Kill kill kill)Is destruction all you're capable of?(Kill kill kill kill)It's just not that.(Kill kill kill kill kill)It's that you enjoyed it.(Kill kill kill kill kill kill)You enjoyed killing the Dead who were trying to assault you.(Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill)You enjoyed killing your old friend.(Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill)You enjoyed avenging your old friend.(Kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill)This is the true nature of the monster called 'Hisao Nakai'(KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL).You wake up suddenly, bathed in sweat. Your breath is ragged and your forehead burns. Why? Why did you have to see such a scene in your dreams too? Is the voice right? Is it true that all you want is to kill? You look at the clock: it's 6 pm, meaning that afternoon classes are over. You take a deep breath and try to rationalize your feelings. There is a stronger sentiment inside of you than the mere desire to kill. Even if you don't know what it is yet, deep down you know it's your reason to live. Helping Rika and befriending Suzu and her doll. That's something you didn't do out of bloodlust in the least. 'Right. I need to stay focused, and I need to look for Rika'.Kenji didn't say anything about her, but Mutou insisted that you'd go after him first. Maybe he had a plan he didn't share with you, so you'll need to contact him tomorrow. You go to the bathroom and wash yourself. You notice that you have no more clean Yamaku uniforms, so you decide to wear something a bit more casual and bring your laundry to the washing machine downstairs. You gather all of your dirty clothes in a bowl, but as you're about to leave, you hear someone knocking on your door.'Dammit', you curse under your breath. You're not sure you want to see someone, especially given the state of your homicidal impulses. Still, if there was something that calmed them in the past, it was human contact. Asking 'who is it?' is tantamount to revealing your presence inside, and the door lacks a peephole to see who's on the other side. You decide to grab your knife just in case. You put it in your pocket, then answer the door.Your classmate Hanako and her friend Lilly are standing in front of you."H-Hello, Hisao", Hanako greets you."Hello girls. How are you doing? Is there anything I can do for you?""Hanako told me that you didn't come to class today. This is the second time in three days. Hisao, we are worried for you", Lilly explains. "Is there something you're not telling us?"You sigh. On one hand, you're happy to have friends who care for you. On the other, you really can't afford to drag them in this mess."Nothing at all. I think the accident took an heavier toll than I'd like to admit. You girls worry too much", you say, trying to dismiss the topic."That's regrettable, Hisao, but you can't let it drag you down. You looked quite depressed these days, even more than in your first week here. I hope I am not being indiscreet, but may I ask if you have programs for the evening?", Lilly inquires."No, I don't really have any. Why?""Hanako and I would like to invite you over for tea. We'd be delighted if you could join us". Even if the invitation comes from both of them, it's Lilly who delivers it. Hanako is simply standing a bit behind her, covering the burned parts of her face with her hair. She looks different from the girl who invited you for lunch, the girl who scolded her best friend for her hypocritical behavior. The true Hanako, you are sure, is hiding somewhere in the husk you're seeing now. The question is, who is forcing her to hide?"Sure, I'd love to come over. Is there anything I should bring with me?"Lilly smiles, pleased. "Definitely. Please do not forget to bring a huge package of "Hisao's good mood", it is a product in short supply recently".She chuckles politely, and so does Hanako, meeting your gaze briefly. You smile back to the girls. "Fair enough, I will bring the biggest I can find. When is it?""We'll be waiting in my room at 8 pm sharp. It's the fifth apartment on the second floor of the East Wing of the campus. We'll be waiting for you, Hisao"."Very well. See you then, girls!""'See' you, Hisao", Lilly responds, laughing softly.Your face turns bright red and you stutter an apology, which has the unexpected side effect of making Hanako laugh. "Do not worry. I am used to it, and I know you are a good person. Fare thee well, Hisao", Lilly tells you, trying to console you"B-bye, Hisao", she says, leaving together with her friend. You close the door behind you with a sigh. Sometimes you can really be tactless. Well, what's done is done. You need to get on with the program now.
You take the bowl with the dirty clothes and, not without a struggle, head for the lowest floor in the campus, the one with washing machines. There's barely anyone around, but you prefer it that way. No people murmuring about you, no one asking you stupid questions. It's not that you're antisocial, it's just that you can't afford to be too social given your condition.Once you reach your destination, you put the bowl down and start filling the washing machine. As you field of sight expands, you notice how all the plants in the room turned yellow and died. While you're busy observing the scene, someone sneaks behind you and taps you on the shoulder with her fingers. You jump away, startled, and turn around to see the girl who tricked you laughing. She's indeed quite pretty, with ginger hair and hazel eyes. You don't think you've seen her before."Who... who are you?", you ask, still a bit confused."We've not met before, have we? Sorry for the prank, I couldn't resist when I saw you lost in thought and unaware. I am Saki Enomoto, and you're Hisao Nakai, right?""I am. Pleased to meet you, Enomoto. In the future, consider not playing such pranks on the faint of heart", you reprimand her."Geez, Nakai, man up! Are you not a man? So take it like a man!""I can take it like man. It's my heart that can't""Excuses excuses! So, Nakai, why haven't you joined a club yet? Would you like to join the art club?""Woah woah woah, take it easy. My condition isn't the best right now, this is why I joined no club in particular. I will consider joining one in the future"."Then the Art club is perfect for you. Limited commitment, limited effort required. Even a walking dead like me can be a part of it!"The mention of a walking dead makes you cringe a bit, but you have to acknowledge that she has a point. After all, joining the Art Club comes with the perks of not being bothered by the Student Council anymore.>That's right, I should probably join>No, I should look into something more sport-oriented. >There's no need to rush it. "Is that so? Well, I will take your offer into consideration, but I am not ready to decide just yet. Perhaps I will join a more... academically oriented club, so to say".Saki looks at you with a sarcastic expression. "Unbelievable. A manlet 'till the very end! Grow a pair, Hisao, be the master of your own fate! Who knows, maybe once you'll become more resolute, a girl will come around to relieve you of your perma-virgin status!"Saying so, Saki disdainfully leaves. You decide to exploit this opportunity to look at her with your Mystic Eyes. Apparently they're trained enough to trigger on demand, since you start seeing lines all over her immediately. However, nothing strikes you as unusual. She appears to be a normal girl, like many you've seen before. You shake your head at the thought of your previous exchange. 'Perma-virgin', who even uses words like these? You finish loading the washing machine, add a bit of detergent and then select the program advised by the 'washing machine user manual' affixed on the wall. You're willing to bet money that Shizune wrote that manual, but in any case, it does come in handy. You paranoiacally wait in the room until the program ends, then transfer the clothes in the dryer. Once you're done with the chores, you head upstairs and back to your room. The clock says it's 7:30, so you can get to Lilly's room leisurely. You knock a few times on the door, then someone opens it.Hanako is wearing a long pink night-gown. Upon seeing you, she blushes a bit."W-welcome, H-Hisao. C-c-come on i-in".You nod. Entering the room, you apologize for intruding, and Lilly's polite laugh echoes in the room."My, my, Hisao. You're always so formal. There's no need to be so uptight around us".Once again, you can't help feeling that there is some irony in Lilly being the one to tell you this. She's wearing a black silk shirt and a matching pair of shorts, which emphasize her beautiful legs and her well-developed breasts.Feeling a bit uneasy, you decide sit next to her at the table, and Hanako quickly joins you. There's a teapot and a few teacups laid on it, and you suppose they might have begun the party before you arrived. You feel tense. You're alone in a room with two beautiful girls, one of which is in a quite revealing outfit. You hope your heart won't give in first.
"D-do y-you w-want some t-tea, H-Hisao?", Hanako asks you."Yes, sure", you respond, pushing an empty cup in front of her. She handles the teapot with the utmost care, not spilling even a single drop of tea. You thank her, then take the cup back and start drinking from it."Hisao, me and Hanako were just in the middle of a quite fascinating conversation", Lilly says, stopping for a moment to sip from her cup. "I'd like to hear your opinion about this as well. Do you believe in paranormal entities and phenomena?"You choke on your tea and start coughing. Lilly pats you on your back to help you, and you finally regain your composure. You need to give an answer to that question, or you might end up appearing suspicious. >'I'll say yes. >>558222>'I'll say no. Paranormal entities are by definition those whose existence can't be confirmed. If they existed they wouldn't be paranormal, right?'
"Hm, well, let's see", you answer, trying to sound nonchalant. "I think we'd have to agree on a definition of 'paranormal' to begin with. I don't know what the previous me believed, but right now, this world appears full of mysteries to me. Some of those haven't been explained by science, and maybe they will never be. If we call those unexplained phenomena 'paranormal', then yes, I do believe in the paranormal".Lilly nods, pleased with your answer. An awkward silence falls on the room, so you decide to seize the opportunity to turn the tables."In any case, why were you discussing something like that? What brought it up?"Lilly frowns, and Hanako looks down. It looks like they're uncomfortable all of a sudden with the topic they were discussing just shortly before your arrival."Hisao, I suppose you have not been following the news, have you?""Not really, I have been... busy""I understand. Hisao, we're sorry to be the ones to tell you this, but... the police suspects your former classmate Kenji to be dead. Apparently, a lot his blood was found in a back alley in the town nearby. And that's not all. Apparently, his family was slaughtered too"You gulp. So the Dead you killed yesterday, the middle-aged ones, those were his parents? His first victims were his own father and mother? "The bodies were not found, but a strange mannequin was lying on the floor, drenched in blood. Rumors are spreading about a Killer Doll, one that stalks people in the night and then kills them. That's what prompted our conversation on the paranormal""H-Hisao, y-you d-d-don't l-look w-well. W-why a-are y-y-you s-s-so p-p-p-pale?", Hanako ask, visibly shaken."It's nothing, I am fine. Yes, these are dreadful news, but I don't believe any paranormal force is at work here. Let's put our faith in the police force and hope the culprit is found and arrested soon""Yes, let us hope so", Lilly concludes. You don't talk much for the rest of the tea party. The atmosphere is awkward, and Hanako can't bear to look at you in the eyes. "I think I should leave. Curfew is soon", you announce. "Yes, I for one would rather not get involved in another argument with the Student Council. Hanako, could you please show Hisao to the door?"Hanako stands up, and so do you. She walks one step behind you, and when you're on the doorstep, she smiles and waves at you."Th-thank you f-for coming. S-see y-you", she stutters."See you, Hanako. Goodnight"As you come back to your room, you can't help but ponder why Lilly turned silent and cold all of a sudden. Maybe it was a form of self-punishment for bringing up and unpleasant topic at a merry occasion? You don't know.Having slept most of the day, you're not tired at all. You could stay in your room and try to practice your powers, but there's not much you have to practice on. Wonder how long until we ser the "points" of death, if i remember how the eyes work.
You'll wander around the campus a bit longer. You'll stay inside and walk around in common areas, so that no one can scold you for sneaking in the girls' dormitory or going outside. You try to collect trash and other abandoned objects during your stroll. They'll be useful for practice later. The atmosphere is incredibly soothing and peaceful. Silence is all you can hear, and the moon shines through the window. You wonder why you long for loneliness, and an unwanted answer crawls from the back of your mind.'You're a killer, Hisao. Everything you touch is destroyed or falls apart. Destruction is the only way you have to interact with the "other". So your quest for solitude makes sense.'"Shut up, you're lying. I did good things too!"'Oh? Like what?'"I...I protected Suzu from that monster!"'No, you protected YOURSELF from the demon, by killing it'"I spared Miki's life!"'And destroyed her relic'"I helped Rika with her medications!"'And now she ran away, a feat she couldn't have pulled off without your help. And what about the tea party you crashed with your own gloominess? Don't make me laugh'"Shut up, shut up!", you shout, realizing only a few seconds later that you're completely alone and in the middle of the night. You start walking faster, then running. Away, you want to go away. Away from what?'Run all you want, but you can't escape from yourself', the voice mocks you."Shut up... shut up... shut up...", you whisper, covering your hears with your hands. As you pass by the cafeteria, you hear some faint noises. You stop, and the voice inside you goes quiet. You take a step back, lean against the entrance and try to take a peek inside. A strange figure is lying on top of a table, moaning and twisting. As your eyes adjust to the darkness, you see that it's actually two people, one on top of the other. The one on top has long ginger hair and is wearing Yamaku's female uniform. You can't see much about the other person, the one with his back on the table, but he's definitely a guy. What they're doing is as clear as day, and even if you're peeping on them, something about this situation just strikes you as odd. Why is the boy so motionless? The moaning is coming only from the girl. Could it be that he's being raped? The girl stops her movements, gets off the table, adjusts her skirt and walks towards the exit. You move away from there, hiding yourself behind a corner. Guys, I planned to post an update but real life is keeping me. I will post it later this evening, sorry for the inconvenience.
The boy is not moving, so you quickly step in the cafeteria to check up on him.His shirt has been opened forcefully, and his trousers and underwear have been lowered, leaving him almost naked. You move closer to him, moving your hand over his nose, trying to check if he's breathing. That doesn't work, so you place your hand over his heart instead, and feel a faint pulse. You sigh in relief. He's still alive, but you have no time to lose. You run to nurse's office and knock on his door. The friendly, middle-aged man opens it and gives you a quizzical look."Hisao? What are you doing here, at this hour?""There's no time for that! Come with me!", you urge him.You head back to the cafeteria as fast as you can. The Nurse is keeping up with you, and when he notices the boy on the table, he curses under his breath."Help me, Hisao, we'll have to move him to my office"You lift him by his legs and the Nurse lifts him by his arms. You carry him to the infirmary, then lay him on the bed.The Nurse produces a syringe and injects something in the boy. After he's done, he calls the local hospital and asks for an ambulance as soon as possible. Finally, he collapses on a chair, breathing heavily."That was a close call, Hisao. That was a fucking close call""Is he... is he out of danger?", you hesitantly ask.The Nurse nods. "He's at least out of immediate danger, but he still needs intense medical care. I won't ask you what were you doing walking around at this hour of the night, but you owe me an explanation. What in the bloody hell happened?">Tell him the whole truth. Say that you suspect Saki>Tell him the whole truth. Say that you don't really know who the ginger girl was>Lie to him. "I was going for a walk through the common areas of the campus because I was having problems falling asleep. Passing by the cafeteria, I heard strange noises coming from there. I took a peek inside and noticed that there was a ginger girl on top of this boy, and that they were having sex. Once she was done, the girl dressed herself up and left. I then immediately went to check on the boy, and found him in this comatose state"The Nurse scratches his chin."Do you know who this boy is, Nakai?"You shake your head. "Never seen before""It's the captain of the track and field club""Oh, that makes sense. He's quite muscular after all. I bet he's very popular with the girls""Quite the opposite. The captain doesn't swing that way"."So that means...""Exactly, Nakai. The girl who was having sex with him most likely raped him. Are you sure you did not see the girl?""I am. The only thing I noticed was her ginger hair""Was she, by any chance, walking with a cane?""A cane? You mean like Lilly?"The Nurse shakes his head. "A different kind of cane. Lilly's cane is made for making her aware of her surroundings, I am talking about a cane made to be leant on"."A heavier one, then? No, I am sure the girl wasn't using one, whoever she was".The Nurse sighs again. "Alright. We're done here for now, Nakai. Go to bed and come back to here as soon as you can tomorrow, we'll have to fill in some papers".You wish each other a good night, then you leave the infirmary and go back to you room. Even if you're not particularly sleepy, you should still try to lay down and rest, else your sleeping cycle gets messed up.Fortunately, no other incidents occur during the night. At least, none you're aware of. You wake up 30 minutes earlier than usual, and decide to heed the Nurse's request. You take a shower, then wear a clean uniform. It feels a bit uncomfortable since it's all creased, and you blame yourself for not ironing it even a bit.The Nurse and Mutou are waiting in the infirmary, and after you retell your version of the story, the Nurse hands you some modules to sign. Once you do, he takes them and leaves. You're alone with Mutou now. "Are we dealing with a vampire here?"Mutou shakes his head. "That's not how a vampire operates. For now it's safer to assume the boy passed out during sex"."But he doesn't like girls!""Then it was rape. Nothing to do with vampires""How about the plants then?""Listen up, Nakai. I understand your animosity, but we can't rush to conclusions. I will do my part and double-check everyone on campus. You, on the other hand, have to focus on another matter"."Rika.""Exactly. We need to find to her to find the Vampire. First Kenji, then her. One shouldn't turn into a vampire so easily or so quickly. Like it or not, we have a bigger fish to catch"."I understand, but even so, we have no clues about Rika's whereabouts. My plan was to capture Kenji alive to make him talk. Do you have any leads, professor?"Mutou shrugs. "The only hints I have come from my understanding of vampiric psychology. If I were a vampire, I'd like to stay in a relatively large city where the chances of meeting someone I know are low. For now, we can start studying the local town".You nod. "I gained some familiarity with it. I think I can conduct the investigation myself"."Perfect. Me and the Nurse have a few more things to deal with. Please notify the class on my behalf, I will be there shortly".You stand up, bow politely towards the professor and then leave.Homeroom didn't last much that morning, as Mutou turned up quite late. Not much happened for the rest of the school day either, and it felt like the bell that signals the end of classes rang much earlier than usual.Maybe it's because your head has been so full of thoughts, lately. Somehow, the voice calling you a killer had simmered down, which is undeniably a positive fact. But the idea that Rika is all alone, out there, feeding on people, is definitely scary. It's not like you can ignore the accident of yesterday either. Whatever Mutou says, your sixth sense tells you that something paranormal is at work in this school. You hate to admit it, but the prime suspect is Saki. What should you do with the rest of your day?>Explore the town>Investigate Saki>Study for the exams>Write-in

>>565941Letting the dice decide when there is a stalemate is fine OP, only turbo artists would be upset about that.
>>565862>>565855Eye training is a good idea. Second
Training your eyes takes priority. You don't want what happened with Kenji to occur ever again.Back in your room, you lay all the objects you collected in your stroll on the desk. There's a few posters, a few pieces of scrap paper, a couple of pens and three tin cans. You shift your focus on your eyes, and the lines of death appear before you. You remember that facing Suzu's demon you were even able to see 'points' of death. Maybe training hard you will see them again. You take one item, try to locate the death line of one of its characteristics, such as color for instance, and then strike through it.The first few attempts are fruitless, but as your training continues, you start to achieve some success. The larger the object and the smaller the characteristic you're trying to eliminate, the higher the chance of succeeding. You feel excited about your progress, and store all re-usable objects in one of your drawers. It is true that the beginning of everything is small, but you feel more than satisfied so far. Roughly one object in three did not break after you cut it. You take a mental note to try and collect something bigger for the next attempts. 'Oh yes, yes! We need something bigger. We need a larger target to tear apart. Good boy!'You gnash your teeth. It's back."Leave me alone. I am trying to save someone, this has nothing to do with killing"'Nothing to do with killing? Hisao, killing is the only thing you're capable of. Killing is the irreversible action par excellence, the purest act of destruction, and your heart is filled with joy as you just kill and kill again'"Of course it is! Isn't removing something bad from existence a good deed?"'So what you're saying is that the end justifies the means, isn't that so? Good, good', the voice comments, laughing. 'I am pleased Hisao. I am very pleased'."Laugh all you want, idiot. You're not gonna stop me", you angrily respond. All this training has made you tired. Yawning, you wear your pajama and go to sleep. The following day, strange rumors are circulating in class. Another boy had been found naked and unconscious on the cafeteria tables. People are starting to talk about a 'Man Eater Succubus' that seduces and then devours the handsome boys of the school. The situation is slowly getting out of hand, and you feel like you have to intervene somehow.>Talk with Mutou after homeroom. Decide what to do no next basing on the evidence he has collected.>Investigate on your own. Try to listen to rumors and ask questions to your classmates.>This is none of your business. >>566186>This is none of your business. You should head to town and look for RikaAs a VN protagonist we are a chick magnet so the succubus will inevitably attack us sooner or later.
You have no time to lose with fickle gossip. There's a person you're looking for, and you need to start your investigation. You spend the rest of the school day following classes and preparing for the exams. It's Friday, so students are starting to get a bit restless. When the final bell chimes, you leave the classroom and head for the gate.Much to your surprise, a cherry blonde girl with twin-tails whom you've never met before is waving at you in the inner courtyard."Hey, Nakai!", she shouts."Ahem, hm, good afternoon. Have we met?""No, we haven't. I am Emi Ibarazaki, I am part of the Track and Field club. I wanted to thank you for helping the Captain"."Ah, that? It was nothing, really. Anybody would have done the same thing in my position"."Then I would have thanked anyone in your position!", she cheerfully responds. "Is it true? That the Captain was having sex with a girl?""That's not exactly what I'd call 'having sex'. Not that I have any experience, mind you"Emi squints. "Nakai, is there something you're hiding?""What are you talking about? I filled in the official reports. I am not hiding anything and it's not like I owe you an explanation to begin with. That ginger girl just..."Emi's face turns pale as she opens her eyes wide. "That... woman..."Without a word, she turns around and starts running towards the school's entrance. It's only then that you notice that she's wearing prosthetic legs. Apparently she has a hint on who the culprit is, but right now, you don't really care. You have other priorities. In town, you ask people if they've seen a pale girl with white hair and red eyes, but most people just shake their head. No one seems to have seen her. You have two options now: go back to Yamaku, or stay around past curfew. If she's a vampire, chances are that she'll be out at night, but the school might take disciplinary measures against you if you decide not to come back.>Stay here, let's get to the bottom of this>Let's go back. No one has seen her, this is a shot in the dark>Write-in
>>574149>Let's go back. No one has seen her, this is a shot in the darkEmi will do something stupid if she hasn't already. And we don't need more shit going down in the campus.

>>574162Emi a cute.
>>574164That's pretty accurate.
>>574149>Let's go back. No one has seen her, this is a shot in the dark
This is futile. If she was around, someone would have seen her for sure. It's such a small town, after all.You go back to Yamaku as the moon shines bright, worried about your friend and worried about the strange accidents occurring in your school. You can't help feeling responsible. You're the one with supernatural powers, shouldn't you be doing something about it? Then again, there's no certainty that the current events are caused by a paranormal force. No, the thing that bothers you the most is that you're trying to use your powers for good. So if such an evil power can be used for an even remotely good cause, can't the same apply to other powers?Could it be that other 'monsters' like you are just trying to do the right thing? You don't really see how, but still the doubt plagues your mind.Yamaku is surprisingly quiet when you arrive. Your breathing is ragged and you feel tired, so you scold yourself for never exercising. 'The nurse said that going for walks would have been good enough', you think, trying to justify your behavior to yourself.Moved by curiosity, you head to the running track, the place where most of your schoolmates train. You've never seen it up close, and it's too hot outside during the day for your tastes. In the middle of the track stands something jarring. Something that looks like a human body. No, that thing definitely IS a human body."Not again", you comment, running at a breakneck speed to check on the person lying on his back. It's another boy, naked from the waist down. His heart isn't beating. You fight against your gag reflex. Your vision gets blurred, and you feel faint. You breath in and out to regain your composure. This is not a good time to lose your cool.Mutou said that the school can't afford to have a murder or a suicide occurring within its walls. The wisest thing would be calling for your professor, if you had his number, and waiting until his arrival. But there's no time for that. You could try to 'kill' the body to hide it. Still, defiling an human corpse is a bit too much, even for you.>I'll get over it. I need to protect the school>I'll leave the body where it is. Maybe he just died of natural causes>[Write-in]
>>575214>I'll leave the body where it is. Maybe he just died of natural causesSomeone may be watching.
>>575214>>I'll leave the body where it is. Maybe he just died of natural causes>>575228Makes a good arguement
>I'll get over it. I need to protect the school
>>575214>If he's still warm, call the ambulance and perform CPR until it arrives. The school can go fuck itself. This is a human life we're talking about.
You approach the body once again: it's cold as ice. Calling an ambulance or performing CPR would be useless at this point.Looking left and right, you move away from the body. The guy could have died because of natural causes, you think. Killing his corpse here and now is an unwarranted action. Turning around, you take your leave. In the corridor, a tall girl is looking around. She's wearing a male uniform, and it seems like she has no arms. She notices that you're looking at her, so she stares back at you. She is stony-faced, her gaze deprived of any emotion. Embarrassed, you look away, but you can still feel her eyes on you."Hey, you", she calls out. You turn around slowly. There's no mistake that she called for you. "Y-yes? Do I know you?"The girl shakes her head. "I was just wondering where Emi was""Emi? Why would I know about Emi?"The tall girl shrugs. "Apparently she was last seen together with you. That's why I ask""Well, she said something about a certain woman, then ran away. I don't really know what to make of that". "Ah, that's Emi for you. Always running around. I will keep searching for her, good luck with your problem"."My problem? What would that be?"She gives you a quizzical look. "I thought we went over that. The problem in your pants, Hisao"You blush. "I-I have n-no recollection of th-this talk! A-and I have n-no problem in my pants!""Whatever you say, Hanako. I will see you around", she says, turning her back on you and walking away."The nerve of some people...", you mutter heading towards your room. You stop before the first flight of stairs. Emi went missing after talking with you, and surely she wasn't in town, or you would have seen her. This means that she's still on campus somewhere. Shouldn't you be looking for her?>No, it's none of my business anyway>Yes, she might be in danger>Write-in
>>578861>Yes, she might be in danger
>>578861>>Yes, she might be in danger
You can't simply leave it at that. A person you know is missing, and even if you're not close friends, that's not a good reason to leave Emi to her own fate. You turn around and reach the corridor in which the tall girl was standing. She's still there, asking people about her friend."Did you find out anything about Emi?", you ask her."Not really. Why do you ask?""I want to help you. I don't know Emi very well, but strange accidents are happening on campus. I don't want her to be the next victim""Strange accidents... well yours was the first, I guess. Afraid that someone might steal your spotlight?""Don't spout such nonsense. I am just concerned about her"."Alright", she responds, shrugging. "I know for sure she's not in the upper floors. She's not in her dormitory, not by her friends, and not in the guys' sector""How do you know?""The track and field club is helping me with this. If you want to help, please check out the basement. I will keep patrolling the first floor".You nod, then head for the basement. Funnily enough, you have been there before a few days earlier to wash your clothes. There are just a few rooms underground, one of which is indeed the laundry room. You check them one by one. Eventually, only one is left. Before you can touch the handle, a cold shiver runs down your spine. Your sixth sense is warning you that something awful is going on in that room. 'So what do you plan to do, Hisao? What if there really is a monster in there?'"Then I will have to..."'To kill it, isn't it so? Not so opposed to killing anymore, are we?'."I will kill for a good reason"'And who are you to judge what is a good reason and what is a bad reason?'"Mutou said so himself: a monster can't be judged using the single's morality. It must be judged using the morality of the entire species. If that's the case, killing a monster is a good thing".'A killer is someone who kills, Hisao. Even if you kill in self-defense, that doesn't change the fact that someone has lost his or her life at your hands. Are you ready to come to terms with that?'>No matter what the voice says, I am not a killer>It's like Mutou said. I am a killer, all I can do is learn how to harness this nature.
>>579705>I refuse to be judged in your value system, inner voice. Equalizing killing a murderous monster and an innocent person is a false analogy.
>>579737Second, got 'em
"I have had enough of your twisted morality. The act of killing isn't always the same. There are victims and there are perpetrators, there are monsters and there are innocents. I won't be bothered by your false analogies anymore"Saying that, the inner voice goes silent. You don't know if it's temporary, or if it is forever. All you know is that you can't hear it anymore. With more resolve than before, you try to open the door. Much to your surprise, however, it's locked. 'No problem. Oldest trick in the box', you say, pulling out your trusted switchblade knife and killing the lock. You open the door with a kick, and pungent odor of blood invades the air. The room is completely devoid of light, and your eyes struggle to adapt to the darkness. As they do, a gruesome scene appears before you. The body of Emi lies on the floor, torn into pieces and bits. You look at the scene completely unfazed. Fear, disgust, wrath: everything has faded, leaving only a cruel tranquillity in you head."Oh? Is this the new sacrifice?", a female voice you know well asks. You instinctively point your knife against her. "End of the line, Saki. This madness ends here".The ginger girl is sitting in a corner, her eyes shining with a twisted light. She stands up slowly, revealing hands full of monstrous claws. You analyze her body, trying to find a line or a dot that connects her to her monstrous shape, but you see none. There's no 'alien agent' within her, unlike for vampires. Her monstrous nature is her true nature. Without uttering even a single word, she leaps at you."Terrible mistake", you mutter, slicing her death line cleanly. She falls on the floor, moaning and wailing. "Aaah...aaah, it hurts... mom, dad, it hurts... mommy... mommy..."That's how the monster called Saki Enomoto dies: begging for mercy and for her mother. You clean your knife on her uniform, then leave the room. All those emotions that abandoned you earlier quickly return. You fall on your knees, holding your head with your hands. At least three students perished in this ordeal. The thing that Mutou struggled to conceal and protect the most, it has fallen apart. Whatever will happen now, nothing will be like before. =============This will be the end for this thread. I will start a new one later, for now, we can use this to discuss the quest, for feedback, and for anything you feel you want to share.
>>583944Emi ;_;The fight was a bit anticlimatic. Though I think it wasn't intended as an action scene from the beginning, and the impact should have arisen from the fact that shit just got real and that humans could be monsters like Saki. But the narrative didn't have quite enough rising tension for that I feel.
>>583946I think it's no mystery that I am taking inspiration from Tsukihime, and I do realize that some of my shortcomings come from that (forgive my pun).A climatic scene in tsukihime is often accompanied by the noise of heartbeat and appropriate bgm, which together with the writing give the 'rising tension' feeling. To be honest I wanted to write this scene a bit like the one in F/SN in which Shirou discovers the corpse harvest made by Kirei , but since Hisao reacted too naturally to the first corpse, it would have lost internal consistency. So I would have lost both credibility and tension.Mistakes have been made, I plan to make the next 'fight' scene a lot more climatic.
>>583950It's not actually what I was thinking about. Though it's just my interpretation of your writing.I though the sequence of scenes starting with finding the dead boy was intended to have rising tension, culminating at the scene in front of the door in the basement, with the fight serving as the denouement.
