You can’t shake how creepy this girl is. You can’t quite put your finger on it, but something about it weirds you out. The amount of teeth she’s showing almost reminds you of a shark baring its teeth. She’s definitely suspicious, and you wonder if she’s got the same idea about you. Office workers swarm around the lobby of the building, but she hasn’t greeted anyone else, preferring to keep her vision locked on you and your group of magical girls. You can’t help but notice how you stick out like a sore thumb here. You step back slightly, but Josie and Erika refuse to yield to the creepy lady. You tug on Josie’s sleeve, urging her to follow you back and stop staring the woman down.

“No we just got lost, hehe. We’ll be going now.” You tug harder on Josie’s sleeve, you would be dragging her with you if she wasn’t so damn heavy. After a few seconds, she finally relents, and goes with you. The high pitched, almost squeaky voice of the receptionist stops you in your tracks.

“Where were you girls going? Need help getting there? This part of town doesn’t attract many tourists.” Uh oh. Has she caught on? Is the jig up? You turn to face her in prepare a response, only to find that Diane has beat you to the punch. Her voice takes on a more refined tone as she speaks. She turns her nose up at the receptionist, not making eye contact with the taller girl. It looks like there’s a use for snobbish nastiness after all.

“We have no obligation to tell nosy little people like you. Now are you quite done wasting our time? We’re important people, and I don’t like being late. Athena?” Diane turns away from her and walks out, herding the team out of the building without another word. The office men part for her, apparently instinctively recognizing her importance, even if it was just a mask. Once you’re out of the building and a comfortably distance from the building you huddle your team in close, eyes open for any potential eavesdroppers.

“What’re we gonna do boss? If that place really is full of Salvtore goons then maybe we should be a bit sneaky, right?”

You rub your chin, in thought. There are a couple potential was you could handle this.

[x] “Let’s see if the Bureau’s got any gadgets that’ll help us out. Their stuff’s usually more subtle than the Hexenkraft’s gear.”

I suppose I'll support this if everyone else is. Would have rather barged in though than ran away and gone back across town. Maybe we can stop at an ice cream parlour on the way

You don’t want to risk any chance of getting caught in there. You don’t know how many of them there are in there, but if they’re packing Hexenkraft tailored weaponry then they might pose a big problem for you. While they might not be the enhanced supersoldiers like Hexengrenadiers, enough of them spewing anti magic rounds at you is still big problem. A problem that the engineers of the Bureau of Special Research and Actions would be able to give you a hand with. They’ve snagged some pretty smart people, mostly kids straight out of schools like the Miskatonic University of Arkham, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. No doubt that they’d have something in store for this situation.

“We’re gonna talk to some friends, back at the Bureau, let’s go!” You run as fast as you can down the block, carefully checking behind you in case someone has tailed you. So far, nothing, thank goodness.

“W-what are you thinking, Victoria?” Erika pants as she tries her best to keep with your pace. You slow down, and allow the team to catch up.

“Contrary to popular belief, the Bureau actually does research and uses taxpayer money for things besides keeping us equipped and fed.” You’re almost back to the building that the headquarters are hidden in. The underground complex is as lively as it was when you left. You proceed down the twisting corridors of the complex. A dull heat washes over you, and you keep walking until you’re met with a massive brass platen that reads ‘Engineering’.

“Here we are!” You motion grandly towards the room. You can spot some kind of forge, and an assortment of metal instruments hanging on the wall. Small constructs run across the ground, or climb up walls. A few of the miniature metallic beings stand in front of you, staring up at you with single eyes. They go about their work, apparently not caring about your presence or your team’s presence.

“Huh? The hell are these things? Little bugs?” Josie walks in, careful not to step on any of the miniature workers. Loud, metallic clanking resounds throughout the room. Erika and Diane ready themselves, while Josie drops into a fighting stance.

“Visitors? I don’t get those that often here! Who are you?” A man suspended in some kind of mechanical apparatus arrives. The massive metal arms that support his limbs push his glasses up his nose with deceptive carefulness.
“Oh! Victory! Why didn’t you say something before you came? I would have made this place a bit more presentable. He shoves papers into drawers, and brushes off a few of his attendants as they try to help him with the task.

“Was on short notice, sorry Charlie.” He shakes his head as he does

“No big deal. What did you need on such short notice anyway? Normally they send War Department people or Majestic men instead of a magical girl to make requests.”

“I’ve got a building full of mafia goons to get past. Maybe you can help?”

“Can I ever! Take your pick, just make sure you get it back to me in one piece.” One of his robots points you in the direction of a rack, with a few esoteric looking devices on it. They’ve got labels beneath them, which help a little.

Which one do you take?

[x] XSF-002 “Umbrella” Generator - Developed in conjunction with Philadelphia Experiment. Minimize movement while in use.
[x] XM-16 “Hush Puppy” - 100% silent directed energy weapon. Good for 10 shots before recharge
[x] XXG-0023 “Doppelganger” Mimicry device. Point at target and take a picture.
[x] “Hey Charlie? What does all this mean?”

Does the Hush Puppy kill or stun? Does it run on a battery or can we reload it? Does the Doppelganger directly copy objects? Can it copy people?

The Umbrella is basically a stealth field right? But we're slowed to a crawl while using it?
>>
>>529872
Can the doppelganger do people? Can the hush puppy stealth burn through locked doors out would there be too much smoke? What's up with the umbrella, I've seen that movie...
>>
The bizarre language and terminology written on the notes below the devices doesn’t help you one bit in understanding what they’re supposed to do. The Philadelphia Experiment? Wasn’t that a hoax? You’ve never heard of it being real, and yet here was a device that was claiming that it had been developed with it. You take it off the rack and give Charlie a pensive look. He looks up from his worktable. The little robots continue on with the work that he left off on. That’s awfully convenient. You wish you had something like that.

“Oh! That? Bends light so that you and maaaaaybe another buddy. But it takes a lot of energy to do that. Go to fast and then.” Charlie clasps his metal hands together.

“And then...?”

“It goes kaput. Leaving you out in the open.” You figured as much.

“And what about this gun looking thing?” You set the Umbrella device back in it’s proper place before you take the “Hush Puppy”

“And that’s my pride and joy right there! Took those big bulky Kraut laser rifles and made it into a pistol. Easier to carry in a coat or something. But it’ll burn through anything short of tank armor! Completely silent too! But I could never figure out how to make a proper battery cell for it. It’s only got enough charge for 10 shots, so make ‘em count.” Interesting. Might be useful if Wildfire decides to try going up against you and your team.

“And this last thing?” It looks like any ordinary camera. Except with three lenses instead of one.The flash’s bulb is pitch black.

“Doppelganger. In case you need a disguise, just snap a picture of your face, and then something else, and let it work it’s magic! But if someone gets in your face, you might get found out.”

So, which one will you pick?

In a situation like this, you figure that stealth would be your biggest priority, and take the Doppelganger with you. It’ll make things much easier if you can creep into their building undetected. You grab the Hush Puppy too. You aren’t exactly sure of how they manage to make something with so much penetrative power silent , but you’ll take it anyways. Who knows, it could come in handy for greasing things asides from people. You bid your farewells to Charlie. And his army of robotic minions do the same, waving goodbye in unison. It’s rather cute. You shove the Hush Puppy into a pocket, and throw the Doppelganger’s strap around your neck. You look like a bonafide tourist now. Erika gives you an incredulous look.

“I do not think that is necessary. We could have shot those who tried to stop us with that gun, and gotten out man.” You look through the sights of the Doppelganger. The crosshairs of the thing appear all over the crowd, apparently trying to match you with all of them. You wonder what’ll happen if you activated it now. Nothing good you’d imagine, so you lower it.

“I dunno, I’m not so confident we can wipe out a whole building’s full of goons with just ten laser shots. Do ya think you’re Billy the Kid or something?” She tilts her head in confusion. You give her a smile in return.

You arrive at the building again, and do your best to seem inconspicuous while you’re running around taking photos of people. It’s a tough thing to do, and you draw more than a few sneers in your direction. You follow Charlie’s instructions to the letter, before handing them off to your teammates. Erika begrudgingly takes the camera, and assumes her disguise.

Diane twirls on the ball of her foot, she’s take the form of some woman dressed in a frilly white dress.

“How do I look~? I’ll never have to buy clothes again with that thing.” You can hardly tell that it’s Diane from this distance. Excellent.

You’re almost all ready to go before you remember one last crucial thing. Babs. You try taking a picture of her, but the damn buttons’ stuck for some reason. The camera simply refuses to take her picture. You snap the camera open, and inspect it’s insides. There seems to be film, and everything’s working properly. Hm. What to do with her.

[x] Keep up your cover story. You just brought her with you to work today.

There’s no reason that people would be able to tell that she’s anything more than just a normal girl who’s a bit shy in crowds. Your cover story would work just fine here. With a bit of modification, it’s be as foolproof as ever. You walk in with your disguises. That creepy receptionist is busy with talking to a group of workers. She doesn’t even bat an eyelash at your entry now that you’re properly disguised. This might be easier than you thought. You walk down the halls, and find yourself at an elevator, full of people. Just how many people work here? This place is massive, and you doubt that they’re all under Salvatore employment.

“Like taking candy from a baby. That egghead really is a genius.” Yeah, no kidding. You heard Charlie never had any formal training or experience, but he was still capable of making this miraculous stuff. Hell, Charlie isn’t even his real name. You’re not sure if he HAS a real name. Babs continues gripping onto your arm, even in your altered state. How can she recognize you? You figure that it’s more Babylonian magic. This elevator’s particularly crowded. A series of large, imposing men are standing in the back, surrounding an elderly man in a box formation. The man stands tall, apparently undeterred by his age. The boredom of the elevator ride sparks some of the workers to speak to you.

“Is that your niece? Aw, how adooooorable! I could just eat her up!” A woman gushes over you tow, causing Babs to shrink away from her.

“Aw, did I scare her? I’m sorry!” You glare at her.

“Uhm, yes, her mom died of TV and her pops died fighting the Nazis. Very, very sad. She hasn’t said a word since her mom left us.” This provokes the woman to nearly start weeping.

“I-I’m so so sorry! I couldn’t have own! And you take care of her? What a noble thing to do!” You chuckle and accept the praise as best you can.

“Yeah, it’s hard, but all worth it in the end.” The woman wants to hear more of your false story, apparently enraptured with you, despite your female form.
“Make sure she grows up well, y’hear?” She leaves the elevator, along with scores of other workers. Leaving you alone with a few other sharply dress people. Two buttons are still lit up. One that reads ‘Human Resources - Eloise Jager’ and another that simply says ‘Penthouse.’

Which one will you go to?

You’re not sure what you’d find in human resources. Maybe that’s a legitimate part of this business venture? Perhaps, or maybe Human Resources is just a code for something. The name attach but if all those stories and books you’ve read are correct, then mob bosses usually have egos the size of the Empire State, and usually like staying in fancy penthouses at the top of the city. Make them feel good about themselves or something. The men surrounding the old man appears to be waiting to get off on that stop too. The elevator dings, and more people stream out, leaving you with the man his bodyguards. They stand like statues around him, almost blocking your vision of him. He’s a big man in the Salvatores, you don’t have any doubts about that. You travel in silence until the elevator dings once again, and the doors reveal the Penthouse floor of the building. You graciously step aside for the entourage, and creep out of the elevator once you’re sure that the coast is clear. This place looks more like a vault or a prison than the elaborately decorated palaces that books describe mob headquarters as. Steel doors cover the walls, making it difficult to eavesdrop on the other side. The walls are painted a stark white color, and are devoid of any kind of decoration. You proceed down the hall, and press yourself against a wall when you find a pair of jacketed men standing guard in front of a door. They're armed with Thompsons, it looks like. You can't tell if they're loaded with antimagic rounds.

“Can’t believe the boss is really makin’ us work for those damn Krauts. Ain’t that nuts? What’ve we come to?” The other guard remains impassively at his side

“Watch that tongue, or they’ll cut it out. ‘Sides, we won’t have to work with them for so long. Won’t be long ‘till boss is done wit’ ‘em.” The other guard nods in agreement.

“Well, better sooner than later, friend. They’re givin’ me the creeps.”

Looks like the average mafia soldier isn’t too happy with being forced to work with Hexenkraft. This doesn’t come as a surprise, despite how vicious they are, they’re still Americans. And you’d be hard pressed to find an American who likes the Nazis.

You’re pretty sure that the Doppelganger would fold under any serious scrutiny, but you’re not sure if these men would be see through your disguise easily. They don’t seem to be the sharpest tools in the shed. And if things do go south, you’ve got a state of the art weapon with you, just in case. It’ll cost you a fifth of your ammo, sure, but it’ll solve your problems very easily. You suppose that now’s a better time than any to field test this thing. You walk up to the men, doing your best impression of an ordinary Joe, just here to do his job. The team follows you. You can see their grips on their weapons tighten as you approach. One holds out a hand, stopping you in your tracks. An idea springs into your mind. If these boys aren’t too fond of the Nazis, then maybe you could trick them into letting you in. A sly smile spreads across your face. You’re so smart.

“Message for a Mrs. Hans Grosse. Urgent.” One of them raises an eyebrow at you.

“Hans Grosse? Dat sounds like a Kraut name. Is there anyone named that here?” The other guard shakes his head.

“Dunno, all their names sound the same to me. But, hold up a minute if you’s got a message for him, then why aren’t you carryin’ anything?” Josie’s quick to make an excuse for that.

“M-mr. Grosse is a very secretive man. He’s afraid that some the message will get stolen, so he made us memorize it! Yeah.” The guard’s eyes narrow intensely at the two of you.

“And the rest of you schmucks? Why’re you here?” Diane jumps into the conversation.

“I-insurance! Yes, Mr. Grosse does not want anything happening to us, so he had a few guards protect us in plainclothes! Yeah!”

“Hm.” One of guards keep staring at you, he seems to be growing more and more suspicious. His companion clasps him on the shoulder.

“Aw, don’t worry so much about it, they’re just a bunch of Krauts past here, let ‘em deal with these idiots.”

“I dunno about this, something seems fishy...” He opens the door cautiously. The guard was right. Hexenkraft uniforms line the wall, hung on coat racks. A smal wall blocks your vision of a portion of the other side of the room. The sound of German comes through the halls. You recognize ‘hexe’, and not much else

The sour scent of ozone fills the room as you get closer to the other end of it.

You're an American magical girl who's used to handle problems that the ordinary, mudane military wouldn't be able to. So far, you've rescued a magical girl defector from occupied France, kept a Nazi occult society from using ancient magics to create undead soldiers, and stopped the leader of said society from stealing the Spear of Destiny for her own nefarious plans.

You're currently on vacation.

You don’t want to rush into the fray if there is a magical girl here. Slow and steady wins the race, after all. They don’t seem to have noticed you, too concerned with whatever they’re doing behind that wall to care. The sounds of shouting and the zap of lightning come from behind the wall, followed by laughing, and more German. You better get to work soon. Maybe a few of these jackets would have operations documents, or notes at the very least. You keep rummaging through pockets, hoping to find anything at all. A few of them have a notes, written in hastily written German. You hand it off to Erika, she squints as she tries her best to make out the letters written on the slip of paper.

“What is it?” She looks back at you

“Something about dumb Americans. It’s a shipping manifest, for weapons and.” She does her best to read the next word. “Runestones?” That doesn’t sound good. The last time the Hexenkraft dabbled in something-stones meant bad news for you, at the hands of an ancient Babylonian demon. The sounds of conversation slowly dies down, and you can hear the sound of a door opening.

“Quick! Get behind something!” Erika hisses angrily at you, you hide behind the wall. Two men leave the room, one dressed in the Hexenkraft’s jacket, and the other dressed like the others in the building. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that you shouldn’t be here.

“This area’s off limits! Get outta here!” The Hexenkraft officer reaches into his holster for a pistol, and the mobster brings out a stone. Lightning sparks from it. What is it with these people and their obsession with lightning. You thought that was a more Russian thing.

We need to get Charlie some field data.
"We are here with a prototype device for testing." Pulls out hush puppy.

You stand up, and straighten yourself out. Both the gang member and the Hexenkraft officer are pointing their weapons at you. The smell of ozone and the sparking coming from the stone grow in intensity as the pair draws closer to you. They don’t seem to have noticed that you’re not who you appear to be yet, and you’d like to keep things that way. Every single thug from the ground floor would be here if they manage to set an alarm off. You keep your hand on the Hush Puppy, it hasn’t left the holster disguised as a pant pocket yet.

“What’re you waiting for? Are you deaf or something? I said get out of here or I’ll fry you black!” The thug gets close enough for you to feel the tendrils of lightning singe your skin. You back up quickly in response.

“Yeah, well. The Hexenkraft said that we have weapons testing to do. Need to get through here, if you don’t mind.” The Hexenkraft officer raises an eye at you, and scoffs, before saying something to the thug in German.

“Wrong answer, I would’ve let you live too!” You really doubt that. The Hush Puppy’s in your hand before he can blink. You don’t bother with aiming, there’s no way you could miss at this range. You squeeze the trigger, and the thug gasps. The stone falls from his grip, and clatters unceremoniously to the ground, lightly sparking as it does. There’s a gaping hole in the man’s stomach. The edges of the wound are charred, preventing blood from leaking out. He looks down at it, and then back up at you before collapsing. The laser beam has burned through the wall behind him, stopping at the metal

“It’s a hundred percent combat effective, so far.” The Hexenkraft officer reacts quickly, lunging for the fallen stone. He snaps off a shot at you as he tries leaving through the door on the far side of the room. The lightning bolt goes wide, scorching Babs’ cheek. She squeaks in pain, and holds her hand at it. Now he’s done it. Now he’s signed his own death warrant. He’s about to open the door, but you fire at him. The first one hits him in the chest, and the next shot misses him. That was wasteful, but you don’t care. He slumps to the floor, against the door. You’re about to put the Hush Puppy away, until you hear speaking on the other side of the door closest to you.

“Didja hear that? Sounded like trouble.”

“Let’s go in, don’t want no trouble happinin’ on our shift.”

You take a position next to the door, ready and waiting for the guards to come through, and ready and waiting to ventilate them with your new toy. It’s quickly growing on you, if only Charlie knew how to make a reloadable battery for the thing, then you’d never leave home without one. It’s been serving you very well so far. The door is broken down by the butt of a guard’s Thompson, they don’t barge in quite yet, a surprisingly smart move for a pair of low level thugs. Instead they decide to liberally spray the doorway down with .45 rounds. They fly by you, some coming a bit too close for comfort for your liking. You manage to keep your composure, however, and stay by the doorway.

“Doesn’t seem like there’s anyone in here, didn’t hit no one, and didn’t scare ‘em either.”

“Can’t be too careful nowadays, they might have some kinda trick up their sleeves.” You do, in fact, and they’re about to find out what it is. They check their corners as they come into the room, another surprisingly wise course of action, not something you would have expected from the likes of them.
“He-” You’re faster on the trigger than the first guard, and you manage to put a hole through the man’s chest. Josie’s got a handle on the other one, knocking his weapon away with a loud crack. He tries squeezing the trigger at the last minute, sending a another stream of bullets through the air, you duck instinctively, despite not hitting you. The thug grunts and groans as he does his best to dislodge Josie from him

“Get the hell offa me! Who the hell are you anyways! Ain’t no desk jockey, that’s for sure!”

“Quit moving around, you big palooka. Look, boss I caught one!” Josie gives you a big, goofy smile. You approach the man, staring at him as he struggles to escape Josie’s iron grasp.

“A concerned citizen. You shouldn’t be hanging around Krauts, you know. Even if you are a criminal.”

You walk over to the runestone that one of the mobsters tried to use to on you. It’s still warm, and sparking with lightning. You grasp it in a hand, and it stops suddenly. Weird, it was making a whole lot of commotion even when the mobster wasn’t trying to kill you. Maybe it’s your status as a magical girl that’s stopping it from doing anything? How did he make it spew lightning all over the place? You’re pretty sure that the thug that Josie’s keeping restrained has the answers to these questions, But you figure that what answers he does have would be enough. You show the stone to him, it doesn’t react to his presence, or do much of anything else.

“Got any idea what this is?” The man stares at the runestone for a few seconds, apparently not quite understanding it’s significance.

“As if I’d tell you mother-owch” Josie tightens her grip on the man, cutting him off mid word.

“Okay, okay! Dunno much about those thing, because I never got one myself! The Krauts gave those dumb rocks to everyone they thought was worthy of ‘em or something weird like that. Let’s people do weird stuff if they think hard enough.” Weird stuff huh, that’s a dead ringer for magic if you’ve ever seen one.

“How many of you goons have them? How many Krauts are here?” The sound of bootsteps from the other doorway are getting closer and closer by the second.

“I dunno, I swear, owch! A couple, maybe thirty, and that one crazy bitch who works in HR! Half of ‘em are up here!” That’s quite a few. And that description could easily match a Hexenkraft magical girl. You’d have to pay her a visit in a bit.
“The hell are you planning, that needs this many of you thugs?” He chuckles, and Josie tightens her grip even more

“Big things, enough to give us breathing room.” Well, that was ominous, and not very useful.

“Right, well. It was nice meeting you, Josie.” She renders the man unconscious. The steps coming from the other end of the hall are getting closer and closer. Your team is getting nervous, as are you. Fifteen Hexengrenadiers is nothing to scoff at. You check the Hush Puppy, only enough for less than half that number.

“Athena, we have a plan, right? Please tell me you have a plan.”

Of course you do, it’s, uh...

Well ambush them as they enter the room. Screw fighting all of them at once.
Hopefully Wildfire or whatever she called herself comes up to us so we don't have to brave HR.

“Of course I do, Diane, that’s why I’m the leader after all.” The loud clomping of the boots echos throughout the room and hallways. Looks like they aren’t sparing any expense to investigate this disturbance. You doubt that ordinary officer workers are allowed here. You take cover behind a wall, and peek out slightly from it. Seven of them, and their commanding officer. He’s a bit different from the officers you’ve seen so far. Instead of a pistol, he’s chosen to arm himself with a two handed sword. The Krauts have a special name for them, you’re pretty sure. You’re also pretty sure that he’s taking after Mad Jack Churchill. He slowly walks up, in front of the squad, guarding his men personally as they approach the room you all are in. Sweat beads on your forehead. Diane and Josie both transform into their magical girl forms. Disguises won’t do you any good now.

“C’mon, just a little bit closer...” Josie mutters to herself, fists flaming with a rainbow of color. Diane’s rapier shimmers in the light, and she licks her lips in anticipation of the upcoming fight. Both of them are excellent close quarters combatants. Suddenly, the officer orders his men to stop. His voice is filtered through the stark white mask adorning his face. His voice rasps through it, making the German very unpleasant to listen to. The troops follow his command without any hesitation, he slowly walks into the room.
>>
“Take this, die!” Diane hisses angrily as she flies from her hiding spot like a woman possessed. The man doesn’t even have time to recognize her. He effortlessly blocks her attempt on his life with his massive blade, easily dwarfing both Diane and her own sword. He brings his fist into her stomach, sending her flying back and into the wall behind her, leaving a sizable dent in it

“Hexen. I will be the end of you.” He rasps out again. He grasps the blade with both hands as he points it at you. Josie is watching him carefully, waiting for an opening in his defenses. You aren’t sure if there are any. He didn’t even have to look at Diane to keep her away. Erika keeps herself safely behind you, and takes the Thompson from a fallen thug. She sends a stream of lead his way, a few of the shots ping against his blade harmlessly, and the others find their mark. Black blood oozes from the holes in his body, but otherwise he seems undeterred.

“I am Der Schädel. Abandon hope.”

It looks like the insanity of the Hexenkraft aren’t limited to their magical girls.

The masked man approaches you slowly, deliberately. The ruby red lenses covering his eyes gleam dangerously in the sunlight streaming in from outside. Josie glares at him, and then at Diane’s prone form. Erika’s busy stealing the unconscious thug’s magazine of ammunition. You suppose that trying to fight him in close range combat would be ill advised. You take aim with the Hush Puppy, and do your best to squeeze off a few shots before he can get up close and personal with you. The green laser beams lance through the air hitting him instantly, even he can’t react faster than light. Two of the beams hit home, cutting through his jacket and his chest, searing a hole through him. He staggers back slightly, looking down at the wounds you given him.

“Sorry, hope’s here to stay.” You give him a smug smile. He’s still standing even after you dished out that much punishment on him? He’s a tough nut to crack you’ll give him that. His breathing gets faster as he sprints towards you, barreling Josie out of the way as he makes a mad dash for you. You transform into your magical girl form, you’d need every ounce of power you can get if you’re going to put this Kraut down for good. Josie groans and rises from the floor, rubbing the bruise that Der Shovel or whatever just gave her, moaning and muttering in pain as she does so. She looks behind her and springs to her feet

“Mind if I deal with these goons for ya, boss?” She doesn’t wait for your answer, charging into the squad of Hexengrenadiers. They anticipate her arrival, and switch to their own melee weapons to deal with her.

“You should give her a hand, Erika, don’t worry about me!” Der Schädel’s blade makes contact with the haft of your hammer. The clang the two weapons make resounds loudly throughout the room. Strange looking writing adorns the flat of his weapon. You struggle to keep him slicing you in two with blade, arms slowly yielding. You glare defiantly at him, muscles screaming as you push against him.

“U-understood, Victory.” Erika’s clearly upset that you’ve ordered her to help Josie instead of yourself. But she complies, summoning her 88 millimeter gun. She brings it to bear against the Hexengrenadiers. Josie looks behind her, in the middle of throttling a hapless soldier.

“Oh sh-” She leaps out of the way, covering her face and body with her arms. The Hexengrenadiers do the same. A few of them are too late, and suffer a predictable gruesome fate. You spare what little attention you can, and look down the hall. It’s practically ruined, with the walls having been blown out, and a massive hole wall behind it. If they didn’t know you were here before, then they sure know now. You’re brought back to the fight by Der Schädel trying to cut into your side. You manage to block it at the last second.

“Americans. Hypocrites, all of you. You will fall before us. Just like the rest.” He takes gasps between each word, looks like even this creep can get tired. Hypocrites, huh. What exactly is he trying to do by telling you this?

“I’m not here to discuss politics with you!” You swing upwards with your hammer, which clangs against his sword. The writing on it glows balefully. He chops at your side again, managing to overpower your attempt to block him. Ouch. That really hurts. The writing glows a bright red as your blood soaks his sword. To your surprise, the bullet holes that Erika made in him have sealed up completely. You step back, attempting to get some distance with him.

“It must have take a miracle. For you to have defeated our hexen.”

You’d answer him, but you’re getting tired. So, so tired.

You watch as your blood slowly disappears from the sword, vanishing into the writing carved onto it’s surface . Is he somehow drawing strength from your wound? You gasp and cover the cut with a hand. The world slows to a crawl, and it gets harder and harder to keep standing, much less to keep fighting him. You glare up at him, defiant to the end. He brings the sword down for the deathblow.

“With your end, the Bureau will fall. And then so will your precious country. A poetic end for it.” You muster up whatever strength you have left, and charge straight into him. The sword cuts through empty air, you’re millimeters away from where you once were. He seems shocked that his swords hasn’t cut you in half. You push your way past him, and keep running. Running to meet your teammates, you hide behind Josie, who quickly realizes your reason for doing so. Now he’s mad.

“Coward! Face your death. With honor.”

“Honor doesn’t win battles! You weren’t fighting very honorably either, you know!” Josie drops into her fighting stance, slowly bobbing from side to side as she waves her hand mockingly. Erika levels her 88 with his face. She’s seconds away from pulling the trigger before he roars inarticulately, and charges your group, blade held high as he does so. Josie dodges to a side, and sweeps his leg from under him, sending him sprawling to the ground, and eating concrete. He stands up, shaking his head as if trying to reorient himself. Erika doesn’t give him this chance, the white metal of his faceplate cracks as she slams the barrel of her anti-tank gun right into his face. Blood trickles from the mask, and his breathing grows increasingly labored sounding. He brandishes his blade once again, and charges faster than your eye can track him. He’s coming right at you. You do your best to dodge out of the way, but your movements are sluggish and delayed at best. The blade bites into your stomach, as your blood leaves your body, his stops.

“I will not. Be made a fool of.” Your face pales as his wounds heal themselves. He’s about to kill you. Again.
>>
>>535949
“I think it’s too late for that, dummy!” Josie brings her fist into his side, the fire surrounding her fists seems to react well with his flesh, and he staggers to the side, glaring angrily at his assailant. Josie shifts in front of her, and she breathes deeply, apparently preparing herself for something. He raises his blade again, but Josie’s faster on the draw compared to him, and she lands a solid hit on his chest. And then another one. And then another. Her punches are going a mile a minute. She has to have hit him hundreds of times already. You wince at the cracking that her fists make against him, you’d feel bad for him, if he wasn’t a Kraut, and if she hasn’t cut you twice. She delivers an uppercut, one that sends him flying through the air and out the door. You can hear him slam against another wall. Ouch. She dusts her hands against each other, she breathes heavily, leaning against one of the metal beams still standing.

“Do you think he’s still alive?” Erika frowns as she dispels her gun

“I hope not.”

If there’s one thing you’ve learned from Mercy is that you shouldn’t let people who can fix themselves fix themselves. You learned that the hard way when you ran afoul of her in Mesopotamia and you aren’t about to make the same mistake when it comes to dealing with this guy. Besides, there’s no harm in being careful. Josie shakes Diane awake, she murmurs as her friend attempts to bring her back into the waking world. Josie shakes her violently, no dice, until slaps her in the face, which finally reawakens her with a jolt.

“Huh? What? Is that Kraut connard still there? I’ll skewer him!” Diane hops up, rapier at the ready, searching her surroundings for any sign of the masked swordsman. Josie shakes her head, a radiant smile on her face.

“Nope, we dealt with him, thanks to yours truly! Broke out a new move I’ve been practicing just for him!” New move, huh? That would have come in handy against Dracula, but hindsight is twenty twenty, as they say. You slump against a wall, you’re still feeling extremely tired. It’s as if someone’s tied a ton of bricks to your feet, and dumped even more on your shoulders. But, the good news is, your wounds have healed almost completely, which means his blade wasn’t made of some anti-magical material.

“C’mon, we gotta make sure he stays down. Don’t want him surprising us.” You trudge your way over to where he landed. The simple act of walking is wearing on you as you keep moving, eventually, forcing you to use Erika as a makeshift crutch. To your surprise, he isn’t there. There’s no body. He’s simply vanished into thin air.

“I coulda swore I knocked him over here! Wh-what, where is he? People don’t just disappear like that!” Josie frantically searches the surroundings. She’s right to be worried. Wherever he’s gone, he’s left his blade on the ground. You take it, hefting it into your hands. It’s very heavy, the lethargy you’re feeling now isn’t helping things. You swing it through the air sloppily, and it whistles dangerously. Could you get rid of this feeling by cutting another magical girl? It’s not like you have a shortage of them. You shake the thought from your head. That’s ridiculous, you’d never even think of hurting one of your team members. Your attention is attracted by the arrival of a new person. A blonde haired girl, dressed in a black pinstripe suit leaves the elevator, you can spot the black of Der Schadel’s coat in there. The girl wears a pin on her suit that reads: Eloise Jager, Human Resources Director.

“Hi! Are you the troublemakers I’ve been asked to deal with? I usually don’t like hurting cute girls like you, but I guess I’ll have to make an exception here.”

Well even if we do just file a report they have a magic girl here and other arcane shit so we will be called in to deal with that at some point
>>
You don’t want to deal with her right now. You know next to nothing about her, aside from her codename, and the fact that she apparently works in Human Resources. Which is obviously some kind of cover, considering that she looks about as old as you do. Combined with the fact that you’ve had your strength sapped by some sort of cursed sword makes for a less than combat effective Victory. You’ll have to come back for her. You drag the sword with you, and run past her at full speed.

“Sorry, not the ones you’re looking for! Try the floor below you!” You doubt that she’s going to believe you, but you don’t need her to.

“Aw, come on, it’s been so long since I’ve killed someone as cute as you!” Oh great. She’s one of those magical girls. She gives chase, but you try your best to focus your energy. You struggle and strain, it feels like you’ve popped a blood vessel in your head. She’s still hot on your heels, but at the last minute, the concrete beneath your feet rises at your command. It splits the two of you, you can hear her shout in protest

“I haven’t let a victim get away from me yet! I’m not going to let you be the first!” So she’s been at this for a while, huh? If your math is correct, then you still have eight Hexengrenadiers to deal with one this floor. That wall should keep them away from you long enough for you to investigate this place.

“Victims? I wonder if that’s the Killer Queen the papers have been ragging on about.” Josie rubs her chin as she keeps running.

“Killer Queen? What an odd name.”

Josie nods grimly “Nobody knows who she is, and she hardly ever leaves any kind of evidence for the police to investigate. They say she’s killed twenty woman in New York City. The only reason that they call her ‘Queen’ instead of ‘King’ is because one of her victims mentioned a she as she was dying” You shudder, New York isn’t a stranger to murderers, but the NYPD’s been pretty good with handling them. And the fact that she’s been targeting women doesn’t make you feel any better.

“We’re not helpless, y’know. Nothing to worry about. Besides, I was just makin’ a guess” Josie wraps her arms around you once she sense your distress.

The team stops at the other end of the hall, it’s another large room, elaborately decorated, with portraits of people. Erika’s 88 shell’s stopped here, making a sizable hole in a thick steel reinforced wall. You can spot bars on the other side, almost looking like a the bars of a jail cell. You can’t see much else aside from the metal bars. On the left side of the room is a massive, gilded door, sealed by multiple locks.

You can hear something burning behind you.

What the hell is a jail doing in here anyways? Maybe it’s for people that the Salvatores want to personally execute or something? Or maybe it’s so they have easy access to them for interrogations. You figure that it’d be best to not try to figure out how Nazis and mobsters think, you’ll never be able to figure these kinds of people out, and you’re fairly certain that you don’t want to. The problem here is that the main entrance to the jail appears to be sealed shut as tight as that other door was. Josie’s two steps ahead of you.

“You wanna get in here? You’ve been staring at it for a while, so figured.” You nods, and she smiles, she slams her glowing fist into the steel reinforcing the wall in front of her. She grips the sides of wall, and tears, the metal screams as Josie strains to rip it open to make a hole wide enough for you to get inside.

“Ladies first~” She motions for you to enter, it’s a tight fit, but you make do. The others follow you inside. To your surprise, the majority of the cells are empty. Save for two of them on the far left side of the room. You see a familiar face. Alma, she’s leaning against the corner where the bars and the wall intersect. She’s wearing a collar around her neck, bearing the iconic sickly blue glow of anti-magic. Rei’s in another cell, lying unconscious on the floor. Alma looks like she’s fading in and out of consciousness as well. You sprint over to the cell that’s occupied by the magical girl mobster. You try grasping the bars, but doing so rewards you with a sharp shock. You can spot several severe looking burns crossing her face and arms.

“Alma! What happened? How did you end up here?” She moans as she turns to acknowledge you.

“Vicky?” She mumbles, chest heaving as she coughs violently.

“I-I did something stupid, Vicky... I came here looking for revenge...It’s all my fault, the Thompsons are all gone, all because of me. Y-you should leave me here...”

“Like hell! I wasn’t kidding around when I said that the Bureau would protect you, that I would protect you.”

You aren’t sure what she did to get herself into this situation, and you don’t care. You don’t break promises. The girl’s lost everything, if she’s to be believed. There’s no way she’d be dumb enough to try something in this state. Not to mention the fact that she looks like she had a bad run in with the business end of a barbeque. Her guard dog of a companion isn’t awake to try any funny business either.

“Don’t bother, I’m not worth keeping alive.”

“Don’t say that! You can always get clean, right? Things can get better for you, I promise!” You aren’t sure if you’re right, but you don’t need to be worsening her despair at this point.

You motion for Josie to deal with the bars like how she dealt with the wall earlier. She nods and pulls her fist back, before slamming it into a series of the bars, which tear like paper under a knife. She repeats the process for Rei’s cell. You carefully step through, and heft Alma over a shoulder. That collar around her neck must be what’s preventing her from simply transforming and getting out of here without a scratch. The whimpers as you do, and you shift your grip on her, trying your best to avoid accidentally irritating wounds.

“We just need to get this off of you, and we’ll be home free!” She doesn’t respond, you try tugging on it, only to get shocked like the bars shocked you earlier, causing your hand to recoil and Alma to yelp loudly. Diane steps in front of you, rapier dangerously close to Alma’s throat. She squeeze her eyes shut. The rapier slices through the collar, which clatters to the ground. Rei isn’t wearing one, for some reason. You pat her cheek, doing your best to keep her from passing out or worse.

The sound of rock exploding jolts you from your thoughts. Hot molten rock splatters the outside of the room. Eloise steps through a Eloise shaped hole in the barrier you made, her eyes full of anger.

“I was busy with her, and now you ruined it.”

Uh oh.
