--------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you think about it. The last few days have been fairly hectic.

After you had been summoned by CINPAC, you had been sent into a briefing room. Everybody in the unit had been assembled there for an upcoming recon operation. CIA plants in Soviet RnD had learned of an upcoming test of a prototype vehicle in Kamchatka. While details about what the vehicle was remained scarce, the plants had found out the time, date and location of the test. And unsurprisingly, it had been planned to take place under the cover to heavy cloud cover to protect the test from being spied on by CIA U-2s. As such, VF-21 would have to undertake a low level penetration of Soviet airspace to get pictures of the test.

With the associated risks of penetrating Soviet airspace, everybody had been given a chance to wash out and leave the unit before entering service. It came as no shock to you that nobody quit.

Once the briefing was complete, everybody was ordered back to the barracks to collect their belongings. You took slightly longer than everyone else by virtue of receiving a number of care packages from Lauren, your former ex.

Speaking of her, she was slightly distressed when you showed up in the hanger with your bags packed, she had apparently been under the impression that you were only leaving for a meeting, not redeploying. You had to pull her to one side while Zeus went over the new E 'cat with the Grumman ground crew. While you couldn't tell her the exact details of what you were doing, she seemed contented with your explanation. Before leaving you gave her a hug goodbye, though you knew that she wanted something more.

You and the rest of VF-21 all formed up on the runway and took off as one, heading for the carrier USS Independence, which would ferry you to Japan, where you would be deployed after the mission in case things went hot.

Freelancer squadron didn't fly alone, a few high-scoring pilots from TOPGUN were sent out with you to fill up space on the carrier. And CINPAC had managed to get his hands on an F-14 to fly over himself. Apparently a spare Tomcat was needed on the Independence, but it was pretty obvious that he was abusing his position to get more flight time.

In fairness, if you had his position you would have done the same.

Regardless, the majority of the trip out there had been spent customising the flight control settings on the F-14E, otherwise known as the "Echo-'cat". The flight plan had already been set out, and with the constant threat of Soviet maritime reconnaissance aircraft taking a peek at the carrier, the Echo-'cat had spent the trip in the hanger.

However, once you finally offloaded, you didn't have much time to enjoy Japan. As soon as you arrived you were ordered to bed in your assigned lodgings, a hut that looked like it had been set up just a couple of months prior to your arrival. While you and Zeus slept so that you both were as ready as possible for the mission, you both got up early to grab some grub from the chow hall with the rest of the unit.

For some reason, both Kenji and Tatsuko kept shooting glances around the room, expecting something that never came.

At 30 minutes before takeoff you and Zeus were lead to a final briefing before the mission. But even then, most of the briefing wasn't related to flight plans or rules of engagement. Instead, as soon as you were seated some CIA spook started rambling on about how important it was not to be detected unless absolutely necessary, and how if you were shot down then it was better to off yourself than be caught by the Soviets.

Thankfully, after Agent "Doom-and-gloom" had shut his trap, you were briefed on what you were meant to be looking for and your route in and out along with predicted enemy strength.

At 5 minutes before takeoff, you entered the hanger and performed pre-flight checks as your ground crew loaded your bird with your chosen armament and a TARPS pod for intel gathering. 5 minutes after that, you were rocketing down the runway, screaming towards Soviet territory.

The waves beneath you were choppy and the winds were strong, the complete opposite to the phrase "Fair winds and following seas". You flew low over the ocean, low enough that the spray of the crashing waves dashed against your cockpit's canopy. Such a low altitude approach was needed in order to fly below the Soviet radar networks.

"Hey Razor." Zeus asked from his seat in the back, his voice his voice deceitfully calm. "What are we loaded with aside form the TARPS pod and Jammers?"

>"Guns only. We need all the speed we can get."
>"Guns and a pair of Agiles. We need speed and defence capability."
>"Guns, Agiles and AMRAAMs. We need to be able to fight our way out if we need to."

Wait, did i read it wrong or are we escorting a u2? Or are WE the surveillance? Of we are just on guard duty we should go with a full load....
Why wouldn't they just use a sr71 for this?

Okay, re read it and i have to ask why did they send us? If it's 89 then they would have sr71s.
Is this plot armor im sensing here?
>>
>>519189
You are the surveillance, the weather is too severe for either a U-2 or SR-71 to be used so you are going in at low altitude to avoid enemy radar.

>>519199
Read above, an SR-71's speed comes from it's altitude, it isn't made for low level recon in stormy conditions. That's where your unit comes in.
>>
>>519133
>"Guns and a pair of Agiles. We need speed and defence capability."
Ha ha! Time for Razgriz!
>>
>>519210
Ah, sorry I don't have much time and was skimming. Let's go with a pair of Agiles then.
>>
"Guns and a pair of Agiles. We need speed and defence capability." You listed off automatically as you struggled to keep your 'cat in the sweet spot out of the drink but in the ground clutter caused by the stormy sea. Easier said than done in gale force winds.

"Just making sure." Zeus responded casually, fortunately for him, all he needed to watch was some sensors as opposed to flying the damn jet.

"As we're checking each other's memory. Would you kindly go over the flight plan Zeus?" You asked your RIO, mostly to make him drop the bloody Japanese comic he was inevitably reading and retrieve the files that you had both been given.

You slightly remembered that Tatsuko kept referring to them as Mangaor something. You still were going to refer to them as comics.

"Flight plan is to follow the Kamchatka River 20 miles inland until we reach the testing area. From there we are to take pictures of any soviet units that we see. After that we are to leave the area along our previous route." Zeus listed off the basics of what you were meant to do. "If we encounter enemy aircraft then we are not to engage unless fired upon or are in imminent danger of begin shot down. If we are shot down or need to ditch then we are to prime the jet's self destruct mechanism before ejection. Upon landing we are to begin evading Soviet patrols, if we are in danger of imminent capture then we are advised to commit suicide before the Soviets capture us."

"Wait hold the fuck up." You interjected, before Zeus could continue with his truncated read of the dossier he had been given. "We have a self destruct system?"

"Yep." Zeus's response sounded spiteful, not at you but at something else. "The jet was rigged up with C-4 while we were in transit on the Independence. Apparently so that should the worst happen, we can prevent the Soviets from recovering advanced tech."

You sat there shocked for a few seconds, you had never flown a jet that was meant to explode.

"This is a fucking shit op. We're flying a jet that's rigged to explode and are under orders to off ourselves if we face capture." You spoke up disdainfully after a few seconds. "Remind my to punch that Agent Coleslaw guy in the face next time I see him."

"It's Agent Coslov." Zeus reminded you from his seat in the back. "And please don't, you'll get yourself in the brig again."

"It will be worth it." You answered proudly, you had only ever been sent to the brig once. And that was totally worth it.

"In any case. What's going on between you and that chick from Grumman?" Zeus asked out of the blue, trying to shift the conversation away from punching CIA pricks in the face.

"Oh her." You paused for a couple of seconds to try and figure out what to say next, giving Zeus the opportunity he needed to butt in.

"Have you been seducing innocent women again Razor?" Zeus mocked with fake disdain. "I told you about why you shouldn't do that."

"Yeah well, guess what. Base security may have messed up and now I'm on speaking terms with Lauren." You quickly rattled off, leaving Zeus in stunned silence.

"Motherfucker, are you saying that you got back together with your psycho ex?" Zeus aksed, sounding both shocked and confused.

"Not really, it's more like I'm giving her a chance to prove that she isn't a psycho. If she proves it then I might stay with her, if not then I will have an irrefutable reason to drop her like a rock." You calmly explained to Zeus, though you didn't even need to look behind you or hear him speak to tell that he wasn't having it.

"Razor. She stabbed your last RIO. That's a good enough reason to ditch the bitch. Why keep her?" Zeus asked, sounding more shocked and confused than before.

>"I don't know. Maybe part of me misses having something to come home to."

"I'm honestly just playing her off so that she pays my former RIO's medical bills. Once he's in the clear she's out." You responded after a few seconds of thinking, careful to sound as detached as possible.

Zeus was quiet for a few seconds before responding sternly.

"You're lying." Zeus said flatly. "I've been with you for long enough to know that you aren't that fucking cold. I mean shit man, that's fucking Stasi tier cold. I refuse to believe that's the only reason."

That stopped you right in your tracks. You now had to choose between coming off as a cold, manipulative motherfucker to your most trusted friend or actually opening up.

Well that was a pretty easy choice.

"I don't know man." You started a couple of seconds later, having made your decision.

"Maybe part of me misses having something to come home to. I mean, before the incident it was just the best feeling in the world to come back from a long tour to a loving girlfriend wit some lovely ASS-ets. After the incident, I was worried that I would go off base one day and never bee seen again." You confided in your trusted RIO. You knew that he wouldn't tell anyone as you had more than enough ammunition to retaliate.

"And what made you change your opinion?" Zeus asked, obviously intrigued at your sudden change of heart.

"Well, she is part of the Grumman team that worked on the bird. And when she saw me, she didn't go utterly fucking psycho. She admitted she had fucked up and wanted to make amends, so I decided to give her a chance." You responded to Zeus's question, revealing more about your logic.

"Well, in any case. I hope you made a good choice, as her previous track record puts me at major risk." Zeus replied, apparently satisfied with your responce. "But in any case, Weiss has bigger ass and that sexy German accent."

"Hey man. I'm up for it if both of them can get along. Though I doubt it." You replied calmly, noticing the peeking form of land appearing out of the storm in front of you, a good few miles away.

"Contact." Zeus piped up, his voice sounding more ridged and attentive as his screens lit up. "2 targets high on IRST at 30 miles out, 20 degrees to the left off our front at angels 27. I don't think they've seen us."

"Do we know their headding?" You asked your RIO, hoping that the jet's fire control systems could get he heading.

"Not really, the weather is interfering the detection capabilities. I only know that there are 2 contacts, we could be facing either basic MiG-17s or some of those advanced Flankers that ONI was on about." Zeus responded honestly. "We could stay on our current heading and try and get a better IRST picture of them, or we could go around them."

>Get closer for a better IRST picture. You could get a bit more information on paroling Soviet aircraft, though you could get caught.
>Go around. You'd loose some time and possible info, but you would have much less chances of being detected.

"We'll go around." You decreed before banking hard to the left, heading in the opposite direction the the Soviet jets. After flying for a few miles, you banked hard to the right again to bring your jet back to it's original heading.

"You sure that was a good idea?" Zeus asked, however his voice betrayed that he was more focused on the screens in front of him.

"We need to stay undetected until we start taking pictures. If we get detected then the mission is doomed." You replied as you entered the mouth of the river, the currents slowly calmed, your protection now being provided by the trees that lined the river banks.

"Well good news, we will only be in the testing area soon. Roughly around 5 minutes." Zeus announced as you followed the curves of the river, making sure to remain covered by ground clutter. Satellite reconnaissance of the site, taken a few days earlier had shown that the testing area was a 5-5 mile square area with the river running through it and a small lake on one side of the river. And if your info was reliable then the soviets would be testing their new vehicles there.

"Ok then, here's how we're going to do this." You began, bringing Zeus to attention. "We'll come in rolled 30 degrees clockwise so that the TARPS pod can get pictures of one side of the river bank, once we have taken the pictures we'll pull an Immelmann turn and get some pictures of the opposite side. If we have a bit of time spare then we might take more pictures before leaving."

"Understood. EW systems will go online on your mark." Zeus said simply, focused more on the jet's electronic warfare systems than the actual conversation.

As you entered the final stretch, you rolled 30 degrees and slowed down to subsonic speeds to allow the TARPS pod to get rolling.

"Zeus, NOW!" You called out to your RIO as you began to make out the forms of soviet vehicles, tanks and other armoured vehicles, all performing some kind of river crossing. Troops on the ground were monumentally confused as your jet came screaming in, their expressions were captured on reconnaissance film.

You blow past them, leaving them in your Tomcat's wake as you hit the airbrakes and slowed down into your loop, trying to keep your gain in altitude minimal as you reversed your direction. As you levelled off however, your RWR began to scream.

"Soviet airborne radar is pinging us! Looks like it's from the jets from the coast." Zeus called out as you made your second pass, scarily, you noticed that the Soviet troops snapped into action, tanks and vehicles bolted for the treeline. Hoping to make it to cover before you could come back around for another pass. And you could spy some rather weird vehicles that the ONI and CIA spooks would love to get a look at.

You rolled the F-14 back again, bringing your jet over the odd looking Soviet tanks, some were fitted with obvious engineering equipment, such as bridge laying equipment. Meanwhile others had what looked like autocannons retrofitted to the sides of their turrets, these very guns were seemingly raised at you, only for then not to be able to track you as you moved faster than the turrets could traverse.

"Soviet aircraft are locking us with their fire control radars, hurry up and dive!" Zeus called from the back, urging you to speed up.

Once you were done with the Soviets on one side of the river, you immediately screamed over to the other side, passing over where the soviet tanks had been performing their river crossing. Over on the other bank, more mystery Soviet tanks drove as fast as they could for the tree line. You could spot a couple of seemingly new types of tank.

One lacked a turret, instead having an armoured roof an a number of antennas on it's roof. Meanwhile another had what looked like a giant turtle-shell turret. Another rank carried rockets on it's exposed back.

"MISSILE INCOMING!" Zeus yelled as your missile warning receiver screamed into life. You instinctively rolled and dived for the deck, dumping chaff and flares in your wake.

As you re-entered the ground clutter of the river's path towards the sea, you weighed your options carefully.

>Engage the enemy fighters directly. You'll be able to fight them on batter terms, but the increase in altitude opens you up to SAMs and other jets.
>Flee as fast as you can down the river, keeping covered by ground clutter. If the soviet fighters try to bounce you, you can retaliate with the Agiles.

Your mind was set the moment you dived back into the cover of the river, you were staying on this course.

"Zeus, do you see the enemy fighters on the sensors?" You asked as you took a turn going almost mach 1.3, setting a tree on fire behind you with the plume of your afterburners.

"No, the IRST is being blocked by the radar." Zeus reported, just moments before the radio crackled into life.

"Attention US spy plane! You are in violation of Soviet airspace. Reduce speed to 150 knots, climb to 10,000 feet and chance heading to 010 degrees!" A young, feminine and defiantly Soviet voice called out over the radio. "You have 10 seconds to comply or you will be shot down!"

"Zeus, do you know where that is coming from?" You asked as you banked hard around a turn, finding yourself on the final stretch towards the sea.

"It's coming from the fighters!" Zeus reported as your missile warning system screamed into life.

"US spy plane, you have 5 seconds to comply!" The soviet pilot barked across the comms, demanding your submission.

>Fuck these Soviets, launch your Agiles at them and bolt for international airspace while they are busy trying to shake your missiles.

As close as international waters, and the fire support from your comrades was, you knew that there was no way you could get there in 5 seconds, you needed to delay the Soviet pilots somehow.

As the seconds counted down, an idea came to you quickly, and you rushed to enact it before the Soviets fired at you.

"My dear Soviet friends, What do you gain from shooting me down?" You asked, only excite a laugh from one of the Soviet pilots.

"We protect our country from you imperialistic Americans, this transgression is just another chapter in your transgressions against the motherland!" A louder, male pilot retorted. You would guess that he was the flight leader.

"You didn't answer my question. What do you, specifically you gain from shooting me down?" You asked as the distance between you and international waters decreased.

"Our families get more political credit." The female pilot spoke up.

"And what good does that do them?" You asked the female pilot as the Soviet jets flew int view, you hoped that your little chat would buy you the time you needed to escape as there was no chance you could survive an attack from 3 fully armed enemy jets that were already on your tail.

"Well they would be able to climb the political ladder, which would mean that the state would give them more food and a larger holiday allowance." The female pilot continued, only for the male pilot to interrupt her.

"Just cut to the chase American. What do you want?" The man continued, giving you the opening you needed.

"Simple, I'm offering you the chance to join me. Your commanders don't care about either of you. You government doesn't care as long as you work. In America you are free to do what you want within the law and you would be paid handsomely." You elaborated, trying to sugar-coat each word to make it sound better. "Say, the weather in Montana is very nice this time of year."

"Bah!" The male pilot said with disgust, paying no attention to the map as you, and the Soviet flight flew into international waters. "You Americans are always the same, trying to sugar-coat your carcass of a country when it can barely stand up to the might of the Soviet Union. Look at you! You are running when a Soviet would have fought to the death. Have you no shame?"

"He may have no shame." Dredd spoke up over the open frequency. "But he isn't stupid enough to lead his comrade into a trap. Now let him go."

"Nyet!" The Soviet pilot spoke up again, still defiant in the face of defeat.

>Let Dredd deal with this while you get out of there. No point in staying in their gun-sights for any longer.

As Dredd and the male Soviet pilot argued in Russian, you decided to focus on the female pilot.

"So, lady. How does it sound?" You asked the soviet pilot. "Why serve for a corrupt and uncaring military when you could join us?"

"And what makes you think that the Soviet high command is uncaring?" The pilot asked, sounding slightly intrigued.

"Simple, our commanders don't expect us to die on a recon mission." You answered without skipping a beat. "It kinda defeats the purpose of a recon mission."

"Yes, but in our defence, we usually send more than one reconnaissance aircraft. Though I have to admit, that was a very interesting tactic." The Soviet pilot conceded, sounding rather impressed.

"Thank you. Say, what do you feel about our offer to defect?" You asked, bringing her back on topic. "You know, if you have any family in the Soviet Union that you want to be rescued before the KGB gets to them then we can arrange a pickup for them?"

You had hoped that the pilot would respond after that question, but instead she just went silent.

"You think she's just considering it or talking on a private channel?" Zeus asked, having listened to the entire tirade.

"Honestly, it could be either." You returned with a shrug. You peered over your shoulder in time to see the Soviet jets break off, returning to base.

"I'll see you later cowboy~" The female Soviet pilot said goodbye to you before shutting off her radio.

"Well, that was eventful..." Dredd said as he formed up on you. "In all honesty, I though that you would have shot them down."

"Violence was always a last resort, I wanted intel, not a world war." You responded immediately, intentionally leaving the comms on the open channel, so that the Soviets could hear that you had no ill intent.

Not like it would matter, you really didn't think that the Soviets would accept that a westerner didn't want to harm them.

"Well, in any case, we're returning to base. CINPAC will debrief you." Dredd responded, pausing for a second before continuing. "By the way, according to Kenji and Tatsuko, a member of the Japanese Royal Family may be on our base."

"I didn't know that any members of the Royal Family was a pilot. I though they all aspired to command warships, something about it being honourable." You didn't know much about Japanese history or Royal traditions, but you knew that after everything that had happened during WW2, the IJN was seen as the most honourable service in the Imperial Japanese military.

"Well apparently, she wanted to serve in a more aggressive fashion than commanding a warship." Dredd explained, before then continuing on with his main point. "Either way, try not to accidentally insult her should you see her."

"And how would I know what she looks like?" You had to ask, no point in telling you not to do something without any info.

"She's about 5'6, dark hair and carries a sword. She's also escorted by another girl who acts as both her RIO and bodyguard." Slider listed off. "She's actually kinda cute. Though her bodyguard takes almost every joke as an insult."

"Now that just sounds like bad news." Is all you could really respond with. Most of your social skills were based off people being able to take a joke, so the bodyguard would make things worse.

Wait, hold on. Your sister said that she was on a base with "some important Japanese pilot that went everywhere with an escort". Maybe she was on base?

As you finished talking to Dredd, Scorpion formed up on you. Her Tomcat still fully armed.

"You know, I was kinda looking forwards to getting some kills." Scorpion said glumly, obviously saddened at the lack of kills.

"She was worried about you." Vampire revealed boredly, obviously more interested in something else.

"No I wasn't! I had full faith in his abilities." Scorpion denied, though her hasty tone made you doubt if she was telling the truth.

"Sure you did, you and Slider were begging Dredd to be allowed to go in and cover your retreat." Vampire continued on, still talking as if she was speaking only the truth.

If you where honest, You weren't sure if she was telling the truth or not, but then again, you weren't a psychologist for a reason.

"I just wanted to get some kills. I'm being honest here." Scorpion continued, sounding more and more distressed.

"Yeah, sure. Or you just want to get on his dick before someone else does." Vampire paused, before continuing in a more teasing tone. "Like a certain Soviet lady that he was chatting up. Is it not enough to have women from Europe and America?"

"I don't know what you're talking about. Weiss is the only one for me~" You joined in Vampire's joke. Teasing Scorpion was very fun, mostly because she would constantly try to deny anything lewd.

"Well then. Maybe you should get working on seducing that Soviet girl, because you aren't getting anything from me." Scorpion huffed, sounding more embarrassed than annoyed.

"Just you wait, you'll be begging for his meat eventually. I bet on it." Vampire predicted, further teasing her ever suffering pilot.

"Honestly, with the amount he talks about sex, he probably has performance issues. He's just insecure." Scorpion tried to press, only sounding more and more desperate by the second.

"With the amount you deny wanting to have sex with him. I wouldn't be suprised if you secretly wanted to marry him." Zeus spoke up, now entering the fray. "You might want to get a move on Weiss, there's a few ladies openly interested in him."

"S-Shut up..." Weiss finally gave up, finally relenting.

"You know Zeus." You decided to continue, this time with a new tactic. "If I don't have any chance with Wiess, then I might as well try someone else. Who would you recommend?"

Zeus was silent for a few seconds, apparently thinking before he continued.

"I'd suggest Kay if you want to keep things patriotic. Slider or Mags if you want something British. Durendal if you want a posh Frenchie, Bats if you want to go French without the hassle. Though if you're looking for something oriental then you could try and use those skills of yours to court that Japanese princess. Though if you want to play knight in shining armour then you could try and get that Soviet chick to defect. Though it's up to you how many you choose." Zeus rounded off.

"Or you could see about your ex." Vampire suggested. "She's ready and waiting."

"Yeah, ready and waiting to chop his cock off." Zeus shot back, acting as if you hadn't told him about your new arrangement with Lauren.

"Oh, right." Vampire sighed. "Shame really, she sounded pretty cute, aside from being a walking landmine."

"Looks can be deceiving." You replied simply, leaving it at that.

With your business with the Germans concluded, you decided to have a chat with the other crew to offer to cover your retreat.

"Hey Slider, you there?" You asked as you left Scorpion and Mags to sort things out between each other.

"Yes, I hear you Razor. How did the mission go?" Slider asked calmly.

"It went well, all things considered." You replied, keeping the conversation short if only because you were tired from the concentration of flying your jet at supersonic speeds at mere meters above the ground. "You know, a little birdy told me that you and Scorpion tried to go in after me, something about the both of you being worried."

"Well, when you consider what the mission was, and how little you went in with, such worry is almost certain to spring up." Slider explained, releasing the bravado from her voice, and letting herself sound tired.

"I don't blame you, I would have been worried for you if our roles had been flipped." You comforted Sldier, letting her know that you cared about her.

"T-Thanks Razor. It means a lot to hear you say that." Slider said, sounding slightly happier. However, as with most moments between pilots, the moment was ruined by an RIO.

"Razor and Slider sitting in a tree." Mags began to sing mockingly. "K-I-S-S-I-"

"Shut it Mags." Slider hissed at her RIO for ruining the moment.

>"Hey, If we were together then we would be doing much more than kissing..."

"Hey, If we were together then we would be doing much more than kissing..." You joked over the radio. And for a good few seconds afterwords, the only response that could be heard for a was a satisfied chuckle from Mags and embarrassed spluttering from Slider.

"Yeah, sounds like the pair of you would fit perfectly together. With one piece slotting into another like a jigsaw." Mags continued smugly, savouring one of the few times she had the upper hand over her pilot.

"Shut it. Just because nobody's interested in you doesn't mean you get to play matchmaker." Slider shot back ineffectively, only to make Mags laugh more.

"Please, I have a number of guys interested in me, they just aren't psychopaths that fly supersonic recon missions at treetop level into the fucking Soviet Union." Mags returned back to Slider. But before Slider could continue the argument, you butted in.

"She's only teasing because she's jealous, Slider." You joked at Mags' more confrontational nature, and offered a solution. "Maybe you should give her some more attention? Worry about her sometimes?"

"I tried that once, and she spent her time bitching about the fucking radar." Slider began, only to be cut off again by Mags.

"There are definite deficiencies. It's not my fault you are too crude not to realise them." Mags shot back venomously.

You cut the link to them before they started their argument in earnest. Leaving them in peace to scream at each other.

About an hour or two later, your jet's wheels kissed the tarmac at Chitose Air Base. You were ordered to bring your jet into one of the hangers before heading to an hour long debrief, attended by CINPAC, the CIA agent that briefed you and a number of other spooks from both American and Japanese intelligence groups. However, once the debrief was finished, you had a lot of free time to walk around the base. After all, you were grounded while the assorted spooks pried the TARPS pod off your bird and went over the images you had recovered.

However, you had a certain personal mission to pursue. One that could affect your entire social standing with your unit. And for that you would have to rely on your contacts and special way with words. And as such, you called upon your greatest contact, the US Commander in Chief Pacific, Admiral Harris.

"Hey Admiral, do you know where I can find a personnel dossier?" You asked as he separated himself from the mass of spooks that were clamouring to get a look at the recently recovered date.

"And why would you need that son?" He asked, obviously sceptical.

"Well my sister made some hints that she may be at this base in a few letters that she sent me, and I want to make sure if she's here or not." You explained as the pair of you left the room that had been claimed by the spooks.

"Oh, your sister." CINPAC said with sudden realisation. "I guess I forgot to tell you what was going on..."

This revelation stopped you dead in your tracks, it was no secret that you were defensive of your sister. And Zeus could attest to the fact that you had beat the shit out of more than a few guys who had gotten a bit too touchy with her while flirting with her.

The Admiral was quiet for a couple of seconds, apparently thinking about how best to handle the situation before he continued.

"Well, I could tell you. But I think it would be better to hear it from her, she shouldn't be on flights at the moment anyway. It's pretty important."

>"If it's so damn important then tell me now!"
>"Alright then, I'll ask her. Where is she?"
>"Give me the truncated version on the way. I want to hear it from both of you."

"Give me the truncated version on the way. I want to hear it from both of you." You asked CINPAC as the pair of you left the base's command building. CINPAC took the lead and you fell into step with him.

"Son, I'm pretty sure you aren't the best when it comes to politics right? CINPAC asked as you walked. A quick shake of you head was all,the answer he needed. "I thought as much, so I'll start you off with a bit of back-story."

"Ever since the Second World War, relations between the average Japanese civilian and the Japanese Royal Family has been frayed. Don't get me wrong, they are still loyal to their Emperor, but they certainly won't be banzai-charging any more bunkers like back in the '40s." CINPAC started explaining, laying the casework for where you sister was involved. "The Royal Family has been more aloof when it comes to interacting with the civilians, and in times like this, national unity is of the utmost importance."

CINPAC reached into his pocket and pulled out a slightly crumpled picture of a Japanese woman with light brown hair in a traditional pattern dress.

"Enter: Princess Sakamoto. She's currently the 4th youngest member of the Imperial Royal Family. She decided that the wanted to try and reach out to the civilian population, in a manner that none of her older siblings had. As such, she joined the IJNAS as opposed to the regular navy." CINPAC passed the picture to you, which you pocketed as he continued. "She also has begun to surround herself with Idols, think of 'em as young celebrities that younger generations look up to. She's been doing a lot to try in fix the divide between the higher classes and the lower classes, even if it makes her the "black sheep" of the Japanese Royal Family, the traditionalists in Japanese society tend not to like her."

"And where does my sister fit into all this?" You asked as you passed into the more Japanese side of the base, as evidenced by the larger numbers of IJN soldiers on patrol.

"Simple, she wants a US presence in her flight to help bolster support for our presence in Japan." CINPAC responded simply. "The nationalists these days have only gotten louder, they claim that our presence could cause an all-out invasion from the Soviets and China. You sister was selected because she used to fly in the same training unit as the princess."

"The princess trained with the USN too?" You asked, shocked at the possibility of going through training twice.

"Yes, that was one of the caveats of her joining the IJNAS." He paused again, before adding something that chilled you to your bones. "Also, you might have flown as an aggressor against her at one point, I'll have to check the records to make sure."

You and CINPAC stopped in front of one of the larger barracks, having obviously been converted to house the princess and her unit. As evidenced by the heavy Royal Guard presence.

"Well son, this is it. If your sister is on base then she'll be in there." CINPAC gestured to one of the guards by the door. "Talk to them about seeing your sister, though don't be surprised if they refuse you entry."

"And if they do refuse entry?" You turned to CINPAC, who just shrugged. "Then ask to meet your sister just outside, If they continue to refuse you entry then contact me again and I'll see what I can do."

And with that, CINPAC turned and walked away. You could feel the eyes of a dozen guards watching your every move, ready to end you if you posed even the slightest threat.

You made your way towards the main entrance of the re-purposed barracks, ignoring the glares of the guards posted around the building.

"Halt!" You stopped immediately as one of the Royal Guards by the door ordered you to halt as he walked up to you. The guard, wore what looked like a modern suit of armour designed after ancient samurai armour. From what you could tell, every member of the Royal Guard wore a similar suit, but his was more ornate and was complete with a pair of swords attached to his left hip. Chances were that he was either an officer or champion.

"What is your name and purpose for being here?" The guard asked in perfect English, the only thing marring it was a slight Californian accent, though he had likely picked it up of the person who had taught him English.

"My name is Lieutenant Bradly Poole of VF-21. I was informed that my sister, Lieutenant Janice Poole was assigned here and I am here to see her." You listed your intentions as clearly as possible. You didn't want to mess around with someone who seemed like a professional.

"May I see your identification card?" The guard asked, and you complied, carefully retrieving the card in a non-threatening manner and handing it the officer. The officer began reading details from the card through his radio, likely calling someone at base command to make sure your credentials were in check.

"Everything is in order sir. However, there is a slight problem." The guard addressed you as he handed you your card back. "Princess Sakamoto is currently on a day trip to Tokyo, and she took the rest of her unit with her. Your sister included."

"Do you know when they will be back?" You asked as you put the card back in your pocket.

"They are meant to be back some time tomorrow, though they could be delayed by a day or so." The guard paused for a second, before then saying something you had been waiting to ask. "If you would like to leave a message then I will ensure that it is passed to your sister as soon as she returns."

"Yes, I would like to leave a message." You confirmed. The guard nodded, before looking over his shoulder and yelling in Japanese. Immediately, a servant in traditional Japanese clothes walked out. He passed a notepad and pencil to the guard before taking a few steps back and waiting.

"What would you like the message to say?" The guard asked, waiting to write down your message.

"I will be stationed on this base for a little while and I would like to see how she is handling life in the USN. And possibly arrange an impromptu training flight. Me and my unit are lodged in the barracks just behind hanger 6, on the 2nd floor." You listed off the short message, the guard scribbled down the note, before ripping the piece of paper off the notepad and tucking it into a pocket on his armour before handing the notepad back to the servant.

"Will that be everything sir?" The guard asked as the servant turned smartly on his heel and walked back inside.

"Yes, that will be all. Thank you for offering to pass the message onto my sister." As soon as you were finished speaking, the guard spoke again.

"Then I shall return to my post sir." The guard politely bowed to you. "Fair winds..."

"And following seas." You finished the old sailor's phrase as you bowed respectfully to him. The pair of you straightened up, befor turning and going your seperate ways, The guard returning to his post while you began the long trek back to the barracks you were staying at.

Though as you walked back, your mind wandered to the female Soviet pilot from before. You couldn't help but chuckle at the prospect of seeing her again, even if ass your conversations with her was just you trying to get her to defect.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
And with that, the thread is over. How will Razor's meeting with his sister go? How will the Soviets respond to your recon run? Will anon be able to get the soviet pilot to defect?

Find out next time! on Pilot Quest Z

In any case, Thanks for sticking with it and I'll see you all next time. If you have any questions then feel free to ask. I'll answer them as soon as I can.
