More than 3 years have passed since you became The Overlord
Many things have happened, you took over the pirate cove, you got s̶o̶m̶e̶ another mistress, and you spent all your money.
Last we left off: You were just separated from Eva while looking for The Blues.

>The Overlord
You are going to have to double back and find away around these rocks to get to your mistress, hopefully along the way you find The Blues. Mermaids are also in these caves so you'll have to be careful as you trek deeper in, you'll have to be careful with magic as well the ceiling as you have discovered can collapse easily. Back at the split you head to the left, the only way to progress forwards. Briefly you wonder if Eva stayed put, you never explicitly told her to do so but it will make finding her, hopefully, easier. The cave this direction doesn't have as much natural light so make a ball of everfire to follow you, with the cave better illuminated you can see bones sticking from the sand and rock. You will definitely encounter whatever did this soon but again you come to a split in the path. You can head right or you can continue straight, both paths seem to be littered with bones.

>Continue straight ahead

>Go down the tunnel to the right

>Continue straight ahead
>>
>Continue straight ahead
The path ahead is perceivably just as dangerous so maybe it better to stay true to the course and not have to worry about turns you are making. As you get farther along the size of the tunnel is getting narrower and narrower, you can still walk through but you can't get your arms all the way out. You can hear something or someone further down the cave but you can't really tell what they are saying or doing. Sounds a little rythmic, you should probably check it out just to be safe. Maybe it's the blues, minions like music. Maybe they are making their own. You are getting closer and you can start to hear a woman's voice. Maybe Eva decided to get a move on? The closer you get the stronger the sound becomes till you are sure it is a woman singing. Getting into an open area you are blinded by natural light, you can kinda see someone sitting on a rock close by.
Their song is compelling you to come closer.

Is the overlord retarded?

Resist, obviously
>>
>>458923
its very obvious that this is a skinny bitch, just like Eva warned us about.
>>
>22, Success
You get closer to the figure with a purpose, you know what this thing is. The song may be sweet but your mood instantly became sour, no one tries manipulating you. The mermaid knows that it has failed to entice you jumps into deeper water, you get the feeling that you will see this mermaid again. For now you have kept your head clear and avoided a watery grave, but that doesn't mean there aren't more traps ahead. Letting yourself calm you look at your surroundings more thoroughly, you've come to an open air grotto in the cave system. Towards the middle the water get surprisingly deep and you can assume that there are more underwater caves below because your would be murderer has yet to appear again, across the deep section you can see a chest resting on some rocks. You can take a stop here before you go further, you can check the bones of the less fortunate or maybe even check the chest but you'll have to cross the deeper water and you certain you'll sink if you don't put in a considerable effort not to while you cross. Or you can continue forward into the cave system to your left or right, many choices for you at this place.

>Stay here, check the bones close by

>Stay here, investigate the chest (Hard, d20+3)

>Continue to the left

>Continue to the right
>>
Sorry for the late reply on that one guys. I forgot to turn auto update on
>>

>Stay here, check the bones close by

>Check the bones
Looking through the bones you find random scraps of clothes, some gold jewelry, and a rusted over dagger here and there. Almost missing them you also find a decently good sized iron key, obviously for the chest across the pool of deep water, and a blue crystal that has just the faintest of glows. You pocket both for now, it's probably better that you don't check the chest now. You still have a choice on which direction to go to find your mistress and the blues.

You decide to head to the right, it is closer and in the general direction of Eva. Thankful you aren't seeing the fires of hell again you thoughts drift to why exactly the old overlord needs you alive couldn't he have just have easily taken your body if he really wanted to? Maybe he needs you to do something before he can leave, or he is just patiently waiting for you to gain power and just snag your body when you get unlucky again. Who knows but you'll have to be subtle in finding your answer, Gnarl is quick to go to the more powerful side in a fight between 2 evils. Maybe you should prepare for clearly an inevitable confrontation with him, will the result be the same as the last power struggle? The newer overlord conquering the older? Before you know it you are at a crossroads again, left or GRRBLRTBLTR. Again you are knocked onto your evil ass by a jet of water, again a mermaid is going to die.

Fucking merbitches, standing up you unsheathe your sword. The seaskank tries hitting you with her spiky tail but your armor absorbs the hit well and none of the spikes pierce it, your swords cuts into her tail. Blood stains her blue scales and trinkle in the dark water, she screams loudly and thrashes about. You ears are ringing and your vision goes a bit blurry, everything kinda feels unsteady. Her tail comes in for another swing, blood splattering the walls as she spins.

Again your armor absorbs the hit with no spikes meeting your flesh, this seaskank won't be as lucky. Your sword carves out a nice chunk from the mermaid's tail, more blood coats the walls and her body. She tries screaming again but your sword quickly liberates her of the flesh covering most of her neck, all that is heard is a sickening gurgle. Her body slumps against the cave wall and briefly the end of her tail makes small splashes in the crimson water, a ball of lifeforce hovers above the water next to her. Normally your minions collect this for you but none being forces you to grab it yourself. You have been studying lifeforce recently though maybe you shouldn't pick it up just yet.

Yep its lifeforce. You know you can't interact with it or you'll just absorb it then it will just go to the Netherworld and wait to be processed into a minion. The crystal you pocketed earlier is pulsing with a little more light, maybe it will react with the lifeforce somehow?

>Try touching the lifeforce with the gem

The crystal pulses with brighter light and more rapid the closer it comes to the lifeforce. Absorbing the lifeforce the crystal shakes violently before shattering leaving behind a blue orb of lifeforce. Quickly examining it the only difference, besides color, is this new orb is significantly smaller than the previous orb. Looking like whatever that crystal was it transformed the lifeforce into blue lifeforce, maybe you should keep an eye out for crystals like that in the future. Collecting the life before it dissipates you are still left with the choice of what direction to go? Left is the direction that merbitch came from, right looks like it will get you closer to Eva.

You should make finding your mistress priority, she'd probably appreciate that. Heading down the path to the right you contemplate what exactly that crystal did, changed the type of lifeforce energy into another. It wasn't exactly a 1:1 ration obviously, if you had to guess something between a 5:1 and a 10:1. But did it change because the crystal was blue? Or was it because the lifeforce came from an aquatic creature? A bit of both? More trial and error is the only way that you can get to the bottom of it. If it's the color of the crystal does that mean that red and green crystals make red and green lifeforce? What if you tried putting red lifeforce into a crystal of a different color? Would it even work? Coming up to another split you can hear something down the tunnel on the right, are you going on the preemptive and fight or you going to try throwing a rock to figure out what it is?

Creeping up closer to the edge of the of the tunnel, snuffing out your fire magic and picking up a rock you carefully lean against the wall to not make a sound. Lobbing the rock down the tunnel you wait for the sound of a splash and a jet of water, you however get a splash and a gunshot. Looks like you found Eva, "It's me, don't waste any more bullets." Stepping out from around the corner, a rock colliding with your helmet. "It's me, don't waste any more "good" ideas like that" Yep it's Eva. "Next time there is a cave in, grab and pull." She starts walking in the direction neither of you came from, looks like she handled herself pretty well. You going to ask if she had any problems while be split up or you could ask something else while walking

>"Have any problems?"
"I ran into a few mermaids on my way to find you, you have any problems yourself?" She'll probably say she didn't have any issues but the small talk will help fill the dead time between grottos and caverns. "Aye, had to deal with one myself she was guarding some treasure but I couldn't get the lock open and I didn't want to waste a bullet for it" "Found a chest as well, maybe you can try your luck on that one as well after we are done in here" Eva shrugs, "The keys are probably in here somewheres. No way the idiots who hid the treasure here got out of here alive" She has a fair point you have seen a lot of bones in here one has bound to have the keys to these chests. You reached an open cavern and from where you stand there are tunnels to your left and right. The left path quickly turns off but the right path immediately branches into three more paths. Feels like you are getting near the end of the cave system.

>Rest up and chat
Taking a minute to rest up and get some light healing in you figure you'll talk to Eva so it's not completely quiet. "I might have a key to one of the chests actually, we should try it out later" She just nods while she is reloading some of her pistols, you find it odd that the barrel screws on and off. After she is done with one she holds the pistol out and aim at an imaginary target, "These are good guns, they shoot straight and can even take down a fat bitch down in a single shot. Kind of a bitch to reload but as long as I don't miss shouldn't matter too much." She likes them and apparently they are good guns so that helps you not feel as bad about your investment, however you can't help but notice she is carrying her cutlass as well as the split swords, so much for "matching". You still need to pick what path you'll be travelling, just peeking down some of the paths you can see the central right path leads to a cavern with nothing but a chest in it.

>Left

>Right (Left, Center, Right branch)
>>
>>461597

>Left
Eva gets up and heads down the left tunnel, guess you are going left. The path snakes along but generally keeps the same direction. Eva clearly wants things to be quiet when she holds a finger out to you when you try breaking the silence, except for the occasional drip it remains completely quiet until you start to approach the next grotto. Once again you can hear a mermaid singing, the music sounds beautiful but you know what is waiting. Eva leaves nothing to chance and pulls out two pistols aiming one in your direction and the other forwards, she takes the leads. It's a bit easier to resist the temptation of the song with the barrel of a gun aimed at your head, a shot rings out and a screech and thrashing is heard. Entering you see the mermaid you saw earlier floating in the middle of the grotto surrounded by red, looks like those guns are good. There is a chest on the other side of the grotto but looks like you'll be able to walk to it. If you want you can try testing the key out, or you can just head back there are no additional paths here.

A moment of brilliance hits you, you'll use your precognition to see if you have the right key. You close your eyes, Eva shakes you a bit, "what are you doing?" You ignore her and focus on the future.
>The key turns
>The lock disengages
>The chest opens

Perfect, you open your eyes "It is the right key" Eva is already unlocking the chest, "Oh gee you saved me a whole 2 extra seconds" Lifting the lid open you can see there is definitely gold and gems inside with a few other things like rings and other jewelry. Eva starts shoving gold into her pockets and trying on the jewelry, which goes well until she tries putting on a third ring. "Ow sonvabitch" The three rings shoot off her fingers with a small spark. Should you take a look at the rings to see what happened or just pocket them and figre it out later?

Snagging up the rings you pocket them away for now, they might be cursed or something. Eva continues shoving coins and small gems in her pockets, you don't see any crystals like the blue one from before. Without overstuffing her pockets Eva probably has about 3000 in gold and gems and she looks pretty smug about it, there is no way you'll be able to get this out without minions to help. Eva grab a handle of something and pulls it out of the chest, it's a mace. It seems the mace head reflects light rather well, Eva tries handing you the mace "You can have this" When you grab hold of it a shock runs through your body, a spark like the one earlier shoots off your hand as the mace flies back into the chest sending coins everywhere. Damn is it cursed too? You can try wielding the mace again or you can take your leave for now.

Grasping the handle of the mace, again you feel the shock running through your body. Gritting your teeth you hold on to the weapon, you're pretty sure you can wield it whenever you'd like but it is certainly a drain on you. For now you will hang it on your belt, immediately upon releasing the handle you can feel your strength return. It might be enchanted to reduce strength but give some unknown effect you'll have to do more testing. But for now it is time to go, taking one last look over the grotto you see nothing else of interest just clear water... Wait where's the dead mermaid? "Eva, where did the body go?" She looks at the water and aims a pistol into it, but you two see nothing. "Shit, we better stay on our toes. Let's just get your damn blue things and get the fuck out. I am not dealing with undead seaskanks." Something feels off, if it were undead wouldn't have immediately attacked you? Your return to the previous cavern goes off without incident but you can tell Eva is spooked. What way will you go now?

Keeping up with them is easy, the passage isn't that long and they don't really move that fast. The cavern they lead you to is huge, much bigger than any previous before it and crystals on the walls reflecting light in a myriad of colors and hues. But that isn't what is holding your attention right now, it is the mermaid sitting on the throne of shells and coral. Her skin is surprisingly colorful for a mermaid and devoid of flaws, the minions are getting riled up by her presence."Ooooooh pretty lady is back" She smiles and beckons one over and gently pats it head, "My my, did you bring me a gift? That's so thoughtful." You can tell the minion is slightly confused but is enjoying the attention. Her focus goes back to you, "What a fine specimen you are, it looks like you followed them in here willingly. What would ever compel you to do that? Unless you've come to recognize my sovereignty?" She has an air about her that you can't help but compare to your own, this mermaid would definitely make a powerful enemy if it comes to that. How will you respond?

Tell her that we wish to learn all she knows about domination magic, in exchange for something of reasonably similar value. Propose an alliance of sorts - surely these unadorned caves must be uncomfortable, we could send workers to spruce the place up, or offer her a place in our kingdom.

Maybe you can spin this into making her an ally. "They were suppose to be leading me to their hive so we could leave. Also an overlord does not kneel to anyone and no magic will be able to cause me to do so. But perhaps we could have a mutually beneficial partnership, maybe exchange magics. If not return the hive to me and we will part ways." Eva protests, "NO. NEVER TRUST A SEASKANK, ESPECIALLY THIS ONE. SHE'LL LIE THROUGH HER TEETH" Eva is trembling with anger, but the mermaid remains perfectly calm and collected. "Captain Kelley, I almost didn't see you there. And you kneeled to the Overlord? My have you lost all your pride?" There is a history between these two and it is souring negotiations. The mermaid waves her hand and a few moments later the minion hive is dredged up from the bottom of the pool. "This is what you were looking for? It is rather useful to use though, and their abilities are quite handy as well. Magic for magic is a tempting offer but what could you possibly give us in exchange for the hive?" The mermaid that tried to tempt you and Eva for sure killed gives you a little wave, the leader smiles "They haven't had an overlord in sometime, are they truly even loyal to you? Prove that you are their sole master and I will give you the hive. If they are truly loyal then the hive is useless to me, but if they aren't... you will bend your knee." Eva is shaking her head, she knows that she has a trick up her sleeve. But if you won't retrieve the hive if you don't accept the challenge and you will probably lose any loyalty from the minions you do have.

I'll make it interesting. If it lands back on foresight, you get a reroll at a minus 3. If your modified roll stays above a 1, I will consider it a critical success. 0 or below, you grit your teeth and accept the astronomical fail

You are going to pretend to think about this and actually use some foresight and figure out how she is going to rig this. "Give me a moment to think" You don't wait for a response before letting your vision of your surroundings fade away.

>Singing
>Minions betray
>Mermaid's manslave

Well that actually makes a lot of sense, setting a challenge you would have never been able to win. "I will accept if you do not sing" The mermaid has just a moment of irritation on her face before returning to its composed look, "Actually on reconsideration you can have the hive. If you do every wish to exchange some magical talents, please stop by. Just make sure you leave the riff raff at home." Eva looks like she is going to murder this bitch but you both know even with the minions helping you probably won't leave unscathed. This might be your last chance to leave peacefully, take the hive and go.

Oh and just so you know if you step foot off land and sail anywhere we'll know. That goes for you too captain." Probably the best you are choosing to leave now.

They are in fact magic rings, which explains why Eva could wear more than 2. They are considered the cutting edge magical apparel, boons with no down side. This gives you an idea, if you can make magic rings with no down side maybe if you just upscale the process it could work with other objects. Fuck runes, but this will take a considerable amount of time and money. Not only that you should be sneaky about who makes it don't want that kind of breakthrough going towards the "wrong" hands. But you are getting ahead of yourself, a ring of sustenance, a ring of jumping, and a ring of swimming. Pretty decent actually. You should put 1 or 2 on

>Ring of sustenance, need less food and sleep (Starting next month 3 actions a month)

>Ring of Jumping, jump farther

I don't think we can swim well in heavy armor. Best to give that one to our resident pirate, hm?

Which ones did she get, anyways? We should ask.

Eh you don't really swim so you'll just give that ring to Eva, not sure how she'll like the mermaid motif. Hopefully it is the thought that counts.

>Talk to Eva
This actually gives you the perfect excuse to talk to about how she knows that mermaid and if there is a way to get rid of her. "She attacks my ships and she has killed a lot of good men... We tried a truce once, she picks her words carefully and ultimately promises she makes are for nothing. Back in that cave was the first time I've seen her give up something for nothing but I'd bet my soul that it benefits her someway. As to how to get rid of her? Short of a volley of cannon fire I don't know. We can't get anyone close enough to take care of her... She is leagues beyond any other of those seabitches. Don't trust her till she's dead. That's your best bet" Eva is leaving out some history but you shouldn't press her on it, it won't add anything. What should you do about the mermaid though? Something to ponder...

Rolled 5 (1d5)

>Train Blues
Maybe you should teach your blues in a more proactive approach to keeping the other minions alive, cooling wind should do the trick. The blues are a little more open to learning something new but they still don’t quite understand the idea of healing, reviving seems so much easier don’t have to worry about squirming minions. Of course, they don’t actually articulate their words that well it is more like “Wakey wakey” and “No too shakey” But after the initial struggle the blues become more adept at healing and basic triage. Slightly morbid but if they determine another minion is too much of a hassle in healing they’ll kill them and raise them back, but the “patient” doesn’t seem to mind at all. Maybe you can teach them something else but what you aren’t too sure on.

>Teach them something else (Write-in, d20+3)

>Move on to other things

Also, there is a 5-way tie for the third action so we are rolling a tie breaker

Get them to learn how to use minion-sized tower shields.
Gotta protect the healers, and the patients that are being healed/rezzed. Increasing their defensive measures would be good for that, no? Plus, later on, we can teach them that phalanx formations, so we could have blues shielding the front of our minions, and reds hurling fire over and between the shields.
>>
Rolled 15 + 3 (1d20 + 3)

>>474454
I Chang my vote to this
>>
>>474470

>18, Success(?)
You should also try teaching the blues to use shields and armor, they are a little too squishy otherwise. They understand armor and they understand shields but getting them to use magic and shields isn’t going to happen. The blues need both hands to use their magic and carrying dead minions, so shields are just going to weigh them down too much. They accept the armor graciously and immediately feel more confident not needed their own service, and your new combat medics are ready as they are going to be.

>Research lifeforce
Thinking back you find it odd that minions can physically handle lifeforce, should be impossible but yet they do. You research shows that lifeforce can’t be handled by living beings but they can be by tools. Do they mean they are “living tools”? Or they just evil lifeforce given form? This is an interesting revelation and it could mean that minions are not only a sign of your power but a manifest of your collected lifeforce. Your possible future years in life acting as your servants, it's a difficult idea to grasp. You’ll have to look into this more.
>>
Do you guys wanna fight Gore again?

I don't think we'll get nearly as lucky as last time, and it hasn't been too long, so we should just let our status as the champion above champions rest for a while.
>>
>>474670
Not yet.
>>
>Strength and Endurance
It has been a long time since you have trained properly, maybe you should more often. The training reminds you of the “good” days, preparing to enter the forest, ruining lives, really getting into the finer aspects of evil. It goes rather well getting back into training and obviously you aren’t going to be making huge progress soon but you should really keep it up. Gore interrupts your training to give you some pointers and tips, it is good to be strong but it doesn’t mean shit if you throw out your back. Gore seems pumped up from the training and wants another bout of sparring but you decline his challenge, mostly because you can only push luck so much and you get the feeling it would fail you again.

Mastah wants me to tell you all that because he and I have some conflicting schedules it would only allow him to post for 3 hours a day. In lieu of that, he will stop updates until he can solve his IP block situation.

Though he does and plans to pick it up as soon as he can, but is also considering a reboot and wants to know if anyone might be interested.
>>

>>478492

>>
He says he would like feedback on the quest overall.

He was asking about the reboot because he is either going to reboot or continue, but he still plans to overhaul things and he wants feedback on that.
>>
>>478586
The quest is fun the binging was a little Rocky but we got through it now it seems pretty good sure we don't have much direction but we have enough too have a fun game and I do like our overlord and what we have so far so what I'm saying is I like to continue to stay with what we have and I like playing your game.
>>
>>478652
Jeeze pal, talk about a run-on sentence.
>>478586
My only real issue is with the weapon system - overlords typically have no issue switching up to completely different types of weapons, and the big differences between them are typically "how hard can you hit vs how frequently can you hit". The more realistic approach is reasonable, true, it just gets a little irritating when you want to try out a different type of weapon but discover that the modifier for it is significantly lower than your current one - sort of discourages trying the new thing, you know? Maybe trying to bring the weapon system closer to the games in some way would be a good thing.

Foresight seems a little bit unreliable and doesn't reveal too much stuff even on crits, even after plenty amount of training with it. I should also note that a lot of the 'train with foresight' votes end up just becoming 'use foresight to see a possibly useful/important detail' in practice. Training implies repeated or constant usage to get better and better at it, not one and done.
>>
>>478731
I agree with this
>>
>>478731
Yes, it is as if its development is nerfed.
Well, it is powerful as lifeforce research can be, so if it has to be nerfed we have to know that.
In this kind of game, it's the beginning that is the most exciting, because you are making your first steps into creating yourself a situation.
After that, it is stronghold management essentially here.
What is fun with stronghold management?
- heroes trying to get in
- making good-looking architecture
- making experimentations on prisoners
- making a rock band with the minions
Let's say the managing parts could be more lifeful.
Also too much mistress too quick.
Our overlord is still the blue-skinned child who trained to overcome the forest.
Rebooting is too easy, let us focus it more on being an active overlord who tries to figures out what is he and from where comes its powers.
And to not disperse too much too quickly.
Like send the pirate back to administrate her thing.
>>
>>478731
I also thought of another thing.

Some of the actions really dont seem like they would take a month. That's about it - try making them seem more substantial for the amount of time that passes.
>>
Some things mastah wanted to say:

"Honestly, I never thought of the ramifications of having Foresight being a skill and I actually have come to dread it when it gets used. It's hard planning future events when I am mostly going post to post with the story line. I probably will change foresight to just cancel crit fails or expand critical success range"

"As for the weapons issue, I realized immediately the error after I put the dadao at plus 1 and I think I made magic way too powerful especially the mind domination"

He also says to break things down as much as you all like.
>>
>>482403
Magic is magic, its supposed to be ridiculous and powerful. Good nerfs for it would be prep time/effect time though, I guess. I know that early level domination actually takes a few seconds to take hold, and its easier and shorter when you get better with it.
