Welcome, players, old and new alike!

Bulgar's fantasy civ is based on faction gameplay - it's not mandatory to make a faction, but it makes you much more involved in the story and makes the world richer!
For a general explanation of the rules on factions, magic and gods, see this:
http://pastebin.com/etm1V11S
You can ask about anything, anytime!
We also have a discord in which we meme a lot.
https://discord.gg/KBDjg
Archives of the older threads are here, newer ones you can find in the catalog/archive
http://pastebin.com/wr6BTGrX
There's room for more players any time and there's even a few factions that are ready to be taken.

In ages past men lived simpler lives - they would hunt, farm, fight and always respect the might of the Old Gods. Shamans led the clans with their elemental magic - so it was for many generations, before history was ever written down. The great hero Rog united a dozen human clans into a tribe that would form the foundation of our future Kingdom. One day Rog mysteriously vanished - then came the Great Storm - when it passed, the shamans could no longer feel the presence of the Gods and had lost the source of their magic.
Our civilization would have to progress on its own and so for generations we worked the lands, expanded in numbers and territory. We adopted goblin miners, fought dragons and welcomed a demonic warband. Adventures were had, technology progressed as we explored more and more of the world, largely adopting the faith of the New Gods of the Pantheon.
In the last year and a half a terrible war ravaged the land. Dark elves, dragons, orcs, centaurs, ogres, norsemen and demons sought to bring about the end of the mighty Kingdom of Paitras. Roggar's King and his closest friends were seduced by a dark elf witch into pledging their aid for the Horde. As the Legions of Paitras fought to protect the Duchy of Kulargar from invasions, a civil war raged within Roggar between supporters of Paitras and supporters of the Horde. Battles, betrayals and struggles culminated in the Siege of Nayte, the center of secular science in Roggar and home to our demon community. Outnumbered and outmatched by the enemy, the defenders of Nayte set off a powerful magical explosion that wiped both the city and the attackers off the face of the Earth, leaving only a large crater.

Spring came again and the leaders of Roggar's warring factions came together in the capital, Dragonstomb, to select a new Dragonking.
Great Crow of the Crow clan was chosen after a heated election and Contest, but he was slain and overthrown by Cassius Whitevayne the Fifth, leader of the Iron Legion faction, who did not take part in the war and instead built up his forces, which include giants, lizardmen, legionnaires and an Ice Dragon.
Cassius Whitevayne the Fifth has been King of Roggar since 216.

In the east, the Horde crushed the power of the mighty Paitran Kingdom, which splintered off into multiple smaller states, while the various races of the Horde also took their own paths, some returning to their traditional homelands, others setting themselves up as rulers over the humans.

After the Second Horde War the Norsemen were united into an Empire that started incursions into the south, but in the past 4 years the norsemen have been fighting each other, which gave us the chance to liberate the lands of the Kulargi, our old human neighbours, thus greatly expanding our territory and population.
The most recent occurence was the opening of a magical portal that leads to Hell - the portal appeared in the Nayte Crater. We sent an expedition in and now fear that an invasion is coming.

Destroying the Portal isn't a long term solution.
For all we know others might exist on this planet
>>
>>457892
Fishermen on the Longfork River have whispered of strange things since the destruction of Nayte; now, these whispers are shouts. A swarm of lunatics have settled in the furthest south-east forest in the realm of Roggar.

The first generation are merely magic-sensitive men and women whose minds were fried by the magic unleashed at Nayte; sadly, the madness is all their children will ever know, along with their own myriad of issues, physical and mental.

Following the events within the portal at Nayte, the leader known as "Manman" has failed to return. Not knowing (or perhaps caring) why, the lunatic Barnaby has declared himself leader of his fellows.

No sense voting against the King on this one, that magic is dangerous juju, and should be contained until we can harness it, or at least pick a side.

Followers of the Academy assets:
>group of manaborn united under the borderline obsessive need to master all realms of magic
>solid understanding of most magics, no particular elemental affinity
>reasonable cache of antique magic artifacts and weapons, only a few of which are more than simple heirlooms
>currently residing at the Ranger School

Following Keir's brief, unproductive rule, the more stable amongst the Followers decided that a more aggressive approach to establishing themselves was in order. To this end, they have dubbed Nich Ashwood as their new leader. A young man known for his skill with a crossbow and affinity for Light magic, his approach to mastering magic lies somewhere between "ambitious" and "zealotry." Anything that doesn't directly have to do with magic is second priority to whatever does in his eyes, no exceptions. His only real concern is the development and learning of new, stronger spells.

The only way we could get an advanced warning is if we post troops in Hell.
Remember, time in Hell moves much faster than that in the Mortal Plane. Plus the Demon Guards could help us out.

Guys, remember that time passes differently in Hell, 12 hours here is 2 days in there. If we station a group on the other end of the portal, we could set up a base camp to use for all kinds of shit if the demons can sort out their differences.

A single demon has stepped out of the portal.
"Ah, humans. The ones that fought Jinivia? Funny little mortals you are."
He stands nearly eight feet tall and is clad in iron.
"I am Kersovun, Demon Lord. My people have had enough of that one's realm. The Mortal Plane is a far nicer place to be. Imagine my surprise when I found out that this portal leads to the site where some of our cousins on the topside had been living among mortals in peace. They blew themselves up for you? Well, must have been some show, very few demons are ever allowed back into Mor's service after they've stepped into the Mortal Plane."
By that you assume that some of Roggar's demons' souls were spared from Limbo and allowed to return to serving Mor in Hell.
"Well, from what I gathered, some mortal convert named Fernius led a band of converts around these parts and settled down to live among humans.
We purebloods don't settle down. We will claim lands for ourselves and we will do as we please there. The question is, will you have the gall to try and stop us?"

While most of the troops are pulling back, a few remain to hold the enemy off in the deeper part of the crater - they are led by two champions, Guttsu of the Dragon Guard and Isebrand Erden.
Isebrand is approached by the shadowy demon who killed Andre.
"[grey]So there are some among men who do not immediately turn tails and run? I, Senkav, will enjoy killing you more than any fleeing coward."" [/grey]/[b/]

Another demon champion approaches Guttsu. He is covered in blood and intestines all over his bone armor.
"Senkav, leave this one to me. You, mortal, will face Kurvav the Bloody"[/b/]

Elfried holds down the demon's attacks with his shield and even manages to get a thrust in with his sword, causing the demon pause - enough time for Guttsu to position himself and to strike him where his head should be with his large sword, which he wields one-handed. The demon's head bursts as magical energy is released, knocking the two fighters back a bit, though they are overall unscathed...
Now, what happneed to our efforts to flood the crater?

Alright guys. Sailing Quest! You are an unlucky fuck with five other unlucky sailors and a pretty ship (Hans Christian 41t to be exact; pictured) that you got for a pretty penny. You're no longer trapped in your boring, soul draining office job. You did it, really: you bought a boat, convinced five other lads to sail it with you, AND you came out of it debt free. Almost. Let's worry about that later, yeah fellas? d20 modern btw. yeah, I know I know

This is late 2015 and you just stopped by some random port in South California (LEL), mainly to bragfuck about your boat to family there. With that done, you quickly meet up with your crew to decide what is going to happen this year, and how much booze is going to take to survive it.

The group: an old insurance agent, a drop-out undergrad college kid, young dude who has taken up sailing for a while, a construction worker / carpenter, an ex-nurse, insurance agent's brother in law who is an alcoholic/druggie and can't keep a good job (shady af) -- don't ask. You guys can fight over the names.

Let's start this!

~

> (a) BIL jokes (you hope) that you guys can make some good booze funds if you want to send just a little bit of drugs up to Oregon. You hope he's joking -- that fuck. Who knows though? Maybe bug him more about it.

> (b) The college kid said we could maybe head to Brazil by the time the Olympics roll in. But do what? You're probably going to get robbed if anything over there.

> (c) Sanest suggestion comes from the sanest sailor on board: the young guy says that you have time to prepare for the races/regattas that happen this summer. Could win some money.

> (d) You were always prone to taking up jobs shipping shit for people. You get paid to sail around doing something safe-y. What else is there to lose? Maybe you can bug someone and see if anyone needs a job done.

Isebrad* that is

Isebrad and Guttsu stood victorious. Some other warrios had also stayed behind to hold the demons off.
Workers, engineers and mages(both shamans of Water and priests of Gyolas) were working together to unleash the waters of the Silver Lake and more importantly, to channel them in a direction that would flood the lower crater around the portal.
They succeeded and were even able to guide the waters in the right way.
Seeing the coming tides, Guttsu, Isebrad and the remaining soldiers charged into the Portal before the waters could sweep them.

A force of four hundred thirty eight soldiers of Roggar passed through the Portal, into Hell, where they would fight the demons who would seek to break into the Mortal Plane.
After those warriors crossed the Portal, the waters of the lake flooded the inner crater, crushing the portal, thus severing this link between the two Planes.

The battle is over and we've won.
During the battle we lost 2300 humans and 600 goblins, while another 438 warriors(almost all humans), among which the two champions, entered the Portal.

With this many factions participating I'm considering it a joint Kingdom effort, so the land will not belong to any individual faction. I'd like some to be left for new factions or factions without lands of their own and such, if possible.

We've settled the lands as far south as Poruan.
Our settlers find ruins that haven't been inhabited for generations. We'll begin rebuilding.

The centaurs in the steppes haven't bothered us yet, let's hope it stays that way.

A
We've designed our first generation of mining golems. They are more capable of working in harsher conditions and don't tire, but they require regular maintenance and magical fuel to be operational. In terms of raw efficiency, a mining golem can replace one expert miner or two/three average ones.
These models should be considered prototypes, of course - for them to be an economically viable creation we'll need many more years of trial and error.
Year 243 - the King's age is worrisome now, he is rarely seen outside his quarters.

News from Dragonstomb - Cassius Whitevayne V has passed away after having ruled for 29 years after violently seizing power in 216.

A Contest will be held in the coming spring of 246.
A question has arisen among scholars though - is the Contest necessary in its current form or should it be replaced by a system based entirely on support from factions?

An envoy has arrived from the east - a high elf.
"Greetings, brothers in faith! On behalf of the High Elves, loyal servants of the Pantheon, I, Doralinon, wish to extend an offer of establishing relations with your Kingdom. Though we are few in numbers compared to the younger races, we seek to make the world a better place. Our homeland is another continent beyond the eastern ocean, but for the last century and a half we've been exploring this part of the world as well. We were friends to the Paitrans and you have no doubt been in contact with traders from our realm."
"The world has been a dangerous place since the fall of Paitras - orcs and demons have enslaved many of the former denizens of that Kingdom, while the disunited city-states that remain in its place bicker among each other. We seek to protect all true believers and as such we have taken it upon ourselves to work on a plan to free the humans of Paitras. As the most stable of the remaining human nations, we look to you and hope to find you to be allies to our cause in the future. For now we seek to establish an embassy and soon enough we will invite diplomats of yours to do the same."

>>

The High Elves seem unwilling to divulge a lot of information on the Dark Elves.
"They reject the Pantheon and they were the brains behind the orcish Horde. They collude with dragons and demons, all of this is enough for us to consider them Evil. They are not to be trusted."

I appoint:
Bardolf Godric as Royal Diplomat
Trusted Adviser as Royal Steward

Finally, I am announcing the creation of a new position on the council, unofficial as of yet, but soon to be recorded in the laws of our nation. The King's Guard, a position to be filled by Goblin Trinket Entrepeneur's right hand man, Allep the Minotaur. He will serve as my personal bodyguard, and will accompany me wherever I may go. Exact numbers don't matter, but your faction is compromised of a large portion of the navy-related professionals in our Kingdom and their families. If numbers ever start mattering, I'll give you a sum.

C&D
We've started work on improving the palace and building a glorious new temple.

Important news has reached Dragonstomb.
From the east, a man in his 20s, has been travelling from village to village, town to town, preaching. He is not a sanctioned priest of the Pantheon and yet his words captivate the simple folk. They consider him a Prophet, he seems to know a lot and is a skilled magician. He calls for reform, seeking to reorganize the structure of the faith.
He's toured across most eastern settlements and has by most recent reports just entered Centerhold, along with a number of devout followers. They don't appear to be violent or to be causing any trouble, or at least not against other believers in the Pantheon.
What should we do?
A.Let him do as he wishes as long as he doesn't harm anyone, we have Freedom of Religion as part of our laws
B.Invite him to Dragonstomb to meet with the King and the rulers of our Kingdom, let's see what he has to say

With the rescent passing of Warlord Sredgnar his first and only son Gunnar has taken up the reins of leading his norse clan. The rescent decree from the Kingdom of Roggar stripped Gunnar's father of his land and conscripted them as warriors.

Assets: Now left without any holdings Gunnar's only real assets are the remaining ships from the invasion and the skilled craftsmen, sailors (vikings) and shamans of the old gods (Storm & Wind).

Goals: Prove themselves useful to the Kingdom of Roggar. Eventually spread the Kingdom of Roggar into the nordlands.

An escort has been provided and the "Prophet" has been escorted to Dragonstomb.
He introduces himself as a man by the name of Parvedan, his birthplace being the former Paitran city of Gregariapol. Born shortly after the sacking of his home city and the destruction of the Kingdom of Paitras, he was an orphan, raised by priests of the Temple of Juras, patron God of Gregariapol. He was trained in the ways of the priesthood, but he abandoned their ranks before obtaining an official post, as he had dissagreements with the Church Dogma.
He believes that the Faith must be reformed and made stronger, for it was pagans and heathens who brought about the destruction of Paitras - the norsemen had retained their old ways and stabbed their ally, Paitras, in the back, while in general the priesthood was not active enough in the defence of the realm.
Parvedan believes priests should be more involved in the struggle of the people and do more to protect the faithful against unbelievers - a priest must be like a sheperd. He believes that the Pantheon Priesthood across the Paitran states and even here in the West is corrupt, inefficient and in general not doing enough.
He has heard the will of the Gods and he knows that Juras is on his side, otherwise he would not have the blessed mana. He is charismatic, a fiery preacher who inspires those who listen and he has already obtained a following of thousands. One way or another he seeks to reform the Church and make it stronger.

"Of course, an older priest wouldn't be expected to fight in the front lines, but it is a dangerous world we live in. Every priest must practice magic that can be utilized in combat and those who can should also be able to defend themselves.
You see, in this world there are wolves - pagans, heathens, daemons, barbarians - sheep - the good, honest believers of the Pantheon, be they human, elf, halfling or any other race - sheperds - the priests who guide the flock - and sheperd dogs - those warriors who protect our people and our Faith.
The Church has no sanctioned militant organizations, it's all self-proclaimed upstarts who would claim such posts, but I do not fault them, I fault the Church for not looking beyond their dusty scrolls and seeing the truth of this world."

"Very well, your Highness. You are a wizard, a priest of Charodei by training, yes? Then you should be able to feel what I'll do now."
The Prophet casts a spell of illumination, one of Juras' most basic magics - just to demonstrate that he has mana at present, he expands its power until it is nearly blinding. He then transfers the mana he has in reserve to the King, then sits down and meditates. Nearby magicians can feel his mana being restored and there's no mortal source around that they've spotted. Standing up, Parvedan begins a complex incantation and after about 15 seconds a blazing sword appears in his hand, pointed upwards to the sky - Juras' Flaming Sword, one of the most complex spells in that school, it temporarily summons a copy of the legendary sword wielded by the Lord of Justice. A target is provided and Parvedan demonstrates the authenticity of his spell, as well as his skill with a blade. He then recalls the blade, as it is a constant consumption of mana on his behalf.
Parvedan bows respectfully to the applause of many onlookers.

I'm hesitant to grant such a position to a foreigner, much less one who simply waltzed in and demanded the reform of our entire church, and much of its tradition, but I share similar sentiments about the role of the priesthood in regard to their magic, and how its application has not been carried out or overseen effectively. Besides that, it seems a large portion of the kingdom agrees with you. I hereby grant you, Parvedan of Gregariapol the position of Pontiff of Dragonstomb, on thr grounds that the church is not allowed to interfere with Royal decree, though they will have their fair say on such matters.

It is our duty, beyond that as followers of the pantheon, but as Men, to uphold Roggar as the last true bastion of Humanity. The Malkosi, Kulargi, and Paitrians have all fallen due to disunity and ill-preparation for the dangers of our world, and I believe the Norse are not long for similar reasons. One self-made man to another, I trust that you understand what it means to value hard work and effort. Do not impede Roggar. Do not throw away our culture. Protect it, and serve the realm to the best of your ability with the rest of the council.

I hereby grant the right to the use of the Dragonstomb arena to Yalmfrid and the Madmiral for a public duel. In any other instance, this would be worthy of an execution, were it not for the fact that no Royal resources were used to destroy Yalmfrid's ships, and the ships were Yalmfrid's, not Roggar's. Seeing as both men are qualified for the position, and the madmiral has shown himself to be quite madder than initially anticipated, the title of (m)Admiral will be the prize for the winner.

Each man may have one weapon of hus choosing for the first round, and each round thereafter will have the rules dictated by me. Whether the duel is to the death or merely incapacitation will be up to the crowd. They do so love bloodsport.
>>
>>460888
I refuse the duel and will march my army to the Madmiiral holds and burn them to the ground and if i find him there i'll kill him.
My ships were a part of the Navy of Roggar and this offense was not judged properly.
you have 2 month to think over this judgement or prepare for Rebellion.
>>
>>460893
As the Royal Spymaster, with all power that holds, I shall stand for Barnaby. Stating you will commit treason against the King is reason enough, but refusing a duel that he should give you? A coward you are, and Barnaby, with his willingness is not.

I declare for Barnaby if this rebellion comes to pass, and if it doesn't you prove your spinelessness further.

A & F

Currently our human infantry acts as iron-armed hoplites, fighting in phalanx formations with pikes, shields and short swords as sidearms.
How should we reform the infantry?
A.Convert to Legion style - abandon the pike as the main melee weapon, large shields and short swords fighting in tight formation, with throwing spears and auxilary troops to cover more specific tasks
B.Split the melee infantry into Spear and Sword units, Spear units can fight in the phalanx style, while Sword units can fight in Legion style
C.Keep the spear as the main weapon, focus merely on modernising equipment

D - we expanded the ranks of our military in all its units.

New Year's Eve of 253 - the Grand Temple has been finished and a great ceremony was held for its opening. It is a temple dedicated to all the Gods of the Pantheon, with shrines to all 13 deities, marble sculptures, space for over two thousand attendees inside.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igKXRrb5_ts
King Nick Ashwood had just returned from a tour in the countryside and was present at the opening, himself being a former priest of Charodei. The Pontiff and various other dignitaries were also present along with a large crowd - it was a cold day, but the people were impressed by this new construction and wished to see the historic moment.
Several hours had passed, the ceremony was nearing its end. The King had just finished a speech he had given and was returning to his seat...
Few could even see what happened then. From the crowd, a hooded figure emerged and dashed forward at incredible speed, beyond what anyone could accomplish without using magic. Blades of strange light emerged from the figure's hands. Before any of the guards could properly react, the assassin's blade had struck. King Ashwood dropped to the floor, dead, as the dark elf woman rushed off before anybody could catch her.

We've sent out emissaries and explorers and at last we've recieved information on the remnants of Paitras.
Five independant states cling to the legacy of Paitras, while five other territories are ruled over by foreigners.
The Orcs have set themselves around the fallen capital, Dominas, while the demons rule over lands to the south, around Midenath. On occasion these former allies are known to clash with each other. They've enslaved the humans and use them for forced labor and sacrifice.
The Dwarves have taken in the city of Dorseel and its surroundings as their protectorate, while two norse warlords have carved territories out for themselves.
Five independent states exist
>The Pontifficate of Gregariapol - ruled by the Pontiff of the largest remaining city in Paitras, a theocracy
>Duchy of the Free Mountains - the slightly more backwards denizens of this border province, their duke loosely rules over the many villages from the small city of Hikalith
>The County of Sekalath - small in territory, but located in a region with fertile soil and access to minerals
>The Duchy of Ezgielath - Claiming the right to the Crown of Paitras by a dynastic marriage to the last King
>Principality of Archeport - centered around the largest port city, Archeport keeps the trade going despite all the death and destruction and the Prince ensures that trade has not died down completely in the Godsjaw sea

Good news! The orcs and demons have gone to war against each other, while the high elves have helped the Prince of Archeport eliminate the Warlord Sneirreg.

Warlord Jarvinsun rules the lands as far west as Vaesgyolis - outside that city, his army has assembled to meet us in the field. He's called on every favor he has and has assembled a force of 8000 warriors, among which are several hundred giants from the north, against our total of 20 000. He seemingly stands no chance and yet there he is, out in the field.

If this works when Jarvinsum has been properly beaten Gunnar will help Jarvinsums up and raise his hand and bellow: "individually we are mighty, but together we will be unstoppable, for Roggar!
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkX1iNUq6Jw [Embed]

>>461645
Warlord Jarvinsum missed his strike yet again and in return got several more cuts across his body. This pattern repeated several times until eventually he could go no more, falling down to his knees and then flat on his face, bleeding out.
The norse warriors who had formed a circle around the fighters, warriors from both sides of the battlefield, all started banging their shields at once.
[b]"GUNNAR! GUNNAR! GUNNAR!"[/b]

The fight is over, Warlord Jarvinsun is dead, his lands, daughters and warriors now belong to Gunnar, whose name will be known far and wide, for he beat such a famed warrior without taking a single hit in a fair fight.
About half of the force that Jarvinsun had under him had been loaned to him by others, but even a part of those didn't return home and decided to stay and fight under Gunnar, giving him command over 5000 norse warriors on top of those he had before.

And thus, with a single duel, the Kingdom of Roggar grew stronger.

The conquered lands are populated by 45 000 humans, about two thirds of which are norsemen - this region was heavily colonised after it had been largely left barren by the Horde.

Thus ends today's tale, with a glorious victory for our great warrior, Gunnar!

After the one sided duel with the Norse warlord. Bardolf saw that Gunnar family will be wonderful people to have marriages with. But while thinking about marrying his son to Gunnar Inge.

He figured out the marriage with the Dragonfist clan never happened. So doding some talks with both of them. He was able to have his son Kurt marry Inge from the Gunnar clan, and had a marriage with Leon with Accalia, Bardolf's daughter.

And so at the end of the well worth fight. Love bloomed, and the marriages took place. The marriages took place at Godric Isle, a isle only known to the Godric clan a a select few. On that isle both the Godric clan got closer ties with Gunnar (Gunnarson) clan, and Dragonfist clan.
On the isle Bardolf showed the true island to Gunner, what the Norse thought was a island made of gold. Is not something far fetch as it's a island make by people that work together to what it is. For the Godric Clan loves that island like it's home.
