Welcome, players, old and new alike!

Bulgar's fantasy civ is based on faction gameplay - it's not mandatory to make a faction, but it makes you much more involved in the story and makes the world richer!
For a general explanation of the rules on factions, magic and gods, see this:

A summary of the story so far:
In ages past men lived simpler lives - they would hunt, farm, fight and always respect the might of the Old Gods. Shamans led the clans with their elemental magic - so it was for many generations, before history was ever written down. The great hero Rog united a dozen human clans into a tribe that would form the foundation of our future Kingdom. One day Rog mysteriously vanished - then came the Great Storm - when it passed, the shamans could no longer feel the presence of the Gods and had lost the source of their magic.
Our civilization would have to progress on its own and so for generations we worked the lands, expanded in numbers and territory. We adopted goblin miners, fought dragons and welcomed a demonic warband. Adventures were had, technology progressed as we explored more and more of the world, largely adopting the faith of the New Gods of the Pantheon.
In the last year and a half a terrible war ravaged the land. Dark elves, dragons, orcs, centaurs, ogres, norsemen and demons sought to bring about the end of the mighty Kingdom of Paitras. Roggar's King and his closest friends were seduced by a dark elf witch into pledging their aid for the Horde. As the Legions of Paitras fought to protect the Duchy of Kulargar from invasions, a civil war raged within Roggar between supporters of Paitras and supporters of the Horde. Battles, betrayals and struggles culminated in the Siege of Nayte, the center of secular science in Roggar and home to our demon community. Outnumbered and outmatched by the enemy, the defenders of Nayte set off a powerful magical explosion that wiped both the city and the attackers off the face of the Earth, leaving only a large crater.

Spring came again and the leaders of Roggar's warring factions came together in the capital, Dragonstomb, to select a new Dragonking.
Great Crow of the Crow clan was chosen after a heated election and Contest, but he was slain and overthrown by Cassius Whitevayne the Fifth, leader of the Iron Legion faction, who did not take part in the war and instead built up his forces, which include giants, lizardmen, legionnaires and an Ice Dragon.
Cassius Whitevayne the Fifth is now King of Roggar.

In the east, the war goes on. The Horde is encroaching on Paitran soil, their target is the holy capital, Dominas.

The people are weary of war. We've begun our rebuilding efforts, the first priority being food.
Though there's less mouths to feed, many of the most skilled hands that fed them are now gone, but our people are strong. Through their perseverence and the blessings of Zemel, Ezdar, Divata and Gyolas, we've been able to stabilise the situation with food and have even started rebuilding some ruined settlements like Centerhold.
Priests examined the Nayte Crater and found that there appears to be no immediate danger to people passing through - the rocks have cooled off after the fiery explosion and the area is barren. There is still some residual magical energy in the air and ground and the nearby lake's shores are very close to the edge of the crater - there is a serious danger of the crater being filled with water, which could also mean that the lake will diminish in return.

News has reached Dragonstomb....
The Horde has sacked the capital of Paitras, Dominas. The Kingdom has practically crumbled, the royal family was slaughtered along with much of the High Priesthood and the elites of Paitras.
Several outlying provinces have declared their independence. The norse have started invading en masse from the north, likely with the intention to settle.
The Horde is continuing its campaign of destruction throughout the Kingdom.

In other news, an interesting thing has ocurred within Roggar. For miles in every direction from the crater of Nayte, humans were affected by the massive magical discharge. Some died of disease, others lost their minds, some have retained both body and mind, but the scary thing is what's happened to the babies that were born in these months after Nayte exploded. They have been dubbed "Manaborn" by observing priests - it appears the mana has seeped into their being, which for some has caused slight deformations and abnormalities(mutations), but the common trait among all manaborn is that their natural magical affinity seems to be stronger than that of normal humans, though weaker than that of elves or demons.
You may now start creating new factions. I have to greenlight a faction's creation for it to be canon, so either post the info here in the thread or consult me on discord beforehand.

Fishermen on the Longfork River have whispered of strange things since the destruction of Nayte; now, these whispers are shouts. A swarm of lunatics have settled in the forest in the furthest south-west forest in the realm of Roggar.

Hawthorne Family

The Hawthorne Family started back in the early days after the explosion. Rowan Hawthorne, a man in his late 20s, became feverish and ill, but recovering a few days later. No one can say what he was thinking, but during the time a minor mutation occured on his body, causing him to grow 2 extra fingers on both hands. He set out, recruiting the injured and mutated, with these followers eventually becoming a part of his mercenary group. He married shortly after forming the group, solidifying both the Hawthorne family name, and the Hawthorne family mercenaries as his personal legion.

Mercenaries are expensive. Perhaps you could consider them your household guard or something like that, you know, dudes that are sworn to you. Mercenaries require constant payment, they are blades for hire. You wouldn't have a lot of money right now for that, the economy's in the shtitter.

The war had taken a great toll on Roggar. Thousands died, all for Kingdom filled with Ashes.
From the flames of this terrible wasting war, came the Dragon Guard. These soldiers the are survivors from both sides of the conflict, come together over the horrors they fought against, and survived.

Assets-
Couple hundred survivors, experienced.
>>
>>437309
Medium amount of success, you've built a barracks and smithy and increased your existing militia force by 10%.
>>437315
We don't have any ogres in our Kingdom. Ogres would have to come from outside and if they were to be accepted into our Kingdom a vote must be held. Ogres have been our enemies for centuries, even before written history, so there would likely be cultural clashes.
Still, that idea can be done.

D now
A CLARIFICATION FIRST
When I post the stats for every new Turn, I list a >Military which is the Royal Army - these are professional soldiers who do nothing else but train, fight and serve the Kingdom. That means their upkeep is done by the tax payers of the Kingdom. The Royal Army serves the Kingdom in general, traditionally the King is considered its supreme commander, but individual leaders can be appointed to lead it into the field.
Factions can have their own forces as well.
Keep in mind that if you have PROFESSIONALS, that means you're paying them money and that they're soldiers who need to be fed, while they themselves aren't working the mines and fields.
Now, throughout the Kingdom all adult men are trained to use at least one kind of weapon and can be made to fight in the militia if it's time for war, but otherwise they work normal jobs - growing food and gathering resources.
Only the factions that stayed firmly neutral during the war have any troops left - that is to say, mostly Whitevayne's personal forces.
Whitevayne, if you want, you can give some of your personal troops over to serve as the basis of the Royal Army.

Now, for a general vote
What direction should we take in regards to the Army?
A.The King's personal forces(both professional and militia) will form the Royal Army.
B.Set a limit to the number of professionals that individual factions can train for their own use. Everything above a certain number goes to the Royal Army
C.Start recruiting soldiers for a new Royal Army(One that belongs to the Kingdom as a whole, listed in the stats) - expensive choice

During the first days of the civil war the rangers choose not to take a side but instead hide and rebuild once it is over. However during the closing days of the war they spotted the massive explosion come from nayte.

Followers of the academy - A group of humans from an outlying satellite village near Nayte, most of their number survived the initial blast with all retaining their sanity, but suffering from reduced fertility and susceptibiliy to mutation as a result of their exposure to the magical radiation from what was once Nayte. They are few in number, only 250 at present, but possess potent magical acumen, stopping short of demons, but greater than any non-irradiated human, and are heir to various heirlooms left to them by their magically-trained ancestors. They are worshippers of Charodei, but practice secular magic as well. Their ultimate goal is dominion over magic in general, evverything else is a distraction. Science is k, but takes a backseat. OC donutsteel magic users

Assets are some enchanted heirloom weapons and a few magical artifacts, along with a decent understanding of magic. Currently camped on the eastern end of the Nayte crater.

Leader is Keir Stormhands, charismatic everyman-turned mage. Aligned with Storm magic, good with swords.

We've accepted a community of 200 ogres who have settled in Threemine.
With the destruction of Clan Notajo, the tin mines are open for business for anyone.

MUPDATE
A new age has dawned upon the lands of Man.
The great Kingdom of Paitras no longer exists. In its place stand numerous small states, while much of its lands are ravaged or in the process of being settled by foreigners.
Of particular interest to us is the Duchy of Kulargar - the Duke and his family were killed by norsemen early on and with the destruction of Paitras the Duchy has also dissapeared as a political entity. The lands of the Kulargi were ravaged by the war, the population reduced by half. Individual communities are now struggling to survive and rebuild.

Small time-skip
Several years have passed as Roggar has worked on rebuilding its agriculture. The population is now growing steadily and there is no major risk of starvation.
The Norse seem to have set themselves up as rulers of the Kulargi over the past few years.
In the east, the Horde seems to have disbanded. The centaurs settled in the open fields in the south of Paitras, the ogres took to forests and hills, while the orcs have set up their own Kingdom and have begun enslaving the humans of Paitras.

As some of you may remember, when Knurig united the Norsemen into a single Kingdom some decades ago, he converted to the Pantheon faith. A part of his people also accepted the New Gods, but missionary work in the north was always slow, only about a third ended up converting by the time the Second Horde War began in 215....
King Engeral came to power in 210 - he was a staunch opponent to the Pantheon faith and repressed the believers in his Kingdom, forcing many of them to settle in the harsher northern areas.
Knowing this now, it is no big surprise that the Norsemen turned on the Paitrans. Aside from just raiding and plundering, the norsemen have started settling in the south. It seems their own lands are becoming more inhospitable as the climate is getting colder. There are even rumors that the Ice Dragons of the High Peaks have awoken - certainly, the Ice Dragon that Cassius Whitevayne The Fifth allied himself with and brought over here is proof of that.
It seems Engeral still holds power over his realm. He has proclaimed himself to be the Northern Emperor and has set his sights on conquering the lands across the Godsjaw Sea(the one that separates our Kingdom from his).

Pantheon-worshipping norse refugees have arrived at our borders, seeking protection in our Kingdom. They flee Engeral's oppression, knowing that our Kingdom is the only large human Pantheon-worshipping nation left.

The current wave of refugees numbers 3000 and they say more wish to flee from the North.

What should we do about this?
A.Accept them with open arms, they are our brothers in faith, let them settle wherever they think is best
B.Reject them, they must be spies!
C.Allow them to pass through our lands and settle somewhere else
D.Settle them in the east, where we've sustained the most damage and casualties during the war
E.Settle them in the south near the dangerous borders beyond which orcs, centaurs and ogres hail
F.Settle them in the west, where it is safest

Abagar the Wise
Abagar is the patron of sciences, writing and learning. He taught the humans of Paitras how to write 200 years ago, developing the first written human language. Priests of Abagar help the community by acting as teachers and scriptors, while their magical spells can help strengthen the mind or be used in the act of enchantment and the creation of magical artefacts.
Through the guidance of Abagar, we've refined our writing system into a more efficient one and we've made our first books - the codex.

The Ice Dragon Ledevlast graced the people of Dragonstomb with a visit.
"I am a guest of my own free will, invited by your current King."
"You wish to learn the secrets of my kind?"
"I will tell you this - we have been here long before any of you mortal races rose up and we will be here long after you all fall down"
"My kind, the Ice Dragons, are stronger than those puny cousins of ours that you've faced - Earth, Storm, Water, Flame, Wind. Only Light and Dark can match our strength, but they are few in numbers. My brothers in the north are now awakening. I came down here to see what it's like, but I now have important business to attend to. I'll be back one way or another."
Ledevlast looked towards the fields outside of town and flew over, grabbing several cows for himself and flying off to the north...

You've set up a base of operations in Dragonstomb and have built 2 triremes of your own.

We've continued focusing entirely on food production and growth in our Kingdom, allowing us to experience a baby boom!
In 233 Dragonking Cassius Whitevayne The Fifth put into law a restriction on individual factions' militaries - if your faction is not dedicated to military purposes, you may only hold up to 300 soldiers of your own. Military factions must swear loyalty to the King.
As an unelected King whose power is backed by his own army, Cassius is able to put such a restriction into law without consulting his subjects.

Since this is the end for today and I won't be around for this week, one last spicy roll for event incoming

The Mad born are those residents who lived in the area's surrounding Nayte. Who were now inscribed with power from the residual magics.
They saw the damages of war caused to the great nation of Roggar, and now seek to eliminate any threat to it.
While they are battle mages, They seem to lose them selves when they go in for fights and training. The Madborne seem quite eccentric seem to know what they are doing only to ramble on with an enemy mid fight. Many of the new battle mages, grew up with these mad born as mentors and parents. With even the new generation being complex to say the least.

They seek battle during times of war so the future will be cleansed of the madness that is war.
Knowledge of all things magical.
They lose them selves in battle to fight to win or die at the cost of everything.

We've had several excellent harvests in the last few years, the climate seems to be stabilising once again.
The latest wave of norse refugees has also spread news to us.
Emperor Engeral died a violent death at the hand of his cousin after a dispute. A dynastic war has erupted in the Northern Empire over who is to succeed him and as a result some of the outlying norse territories have split off from the Empire - the ones in Kulargar, interestingly, have done so as well, confident that they do not need the protection of the homeland.

Unfortunately, this is as far as we go for today and for the next few days as well!
Tomorrow I'm heading off to gather with my clanmates, because on Thursday we're going on a LARP in the mountains for three days or so.
I might check on this thread every now and then and answer questions, maybe approve new factions or discuss ideas, but I can't make story progress posts on my phone, so we'll probably continue on Monday!
Cheers, everyone!

Great Crow to Cassius Whiteayne!

O Fake King, with courage of goblin, damned brother of demons and dragon's cocksucker. What kind of warrior are you if you're afraid of your own shadow. Your army eats demon's excretes.

If you have something to say you jester, pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, you may visit me in Great Nest if you dare you spineless son of a bitch, go screw your own mother.

So the Great Crow Clan declares, you vermin, now we'll concluding since time's wasting on you.

Signed GREAT CROW.

"Hello, neighbors! I represent a ~small~ group of halflings, looking to settle someplace new to try and see what new things we can grow! Looking at the map, I think there's place for a town between Muttville and Malkog, as a trading post and farmland. We'll be technically outside your borders, as defined by the border posts, I think, but we still wanted to ask, especially as we'd probably draw water from ~short~fork river. So, what you think?"

>Sure, halflings are fine.

1200 professional gobs
7000 human militiamen
3500 goblin militia
and 500 various others - non-human mercs and shit

The Kulargi lands are split in four parts at present - three norse warlords rule over the coastlines, while the town of Podermos and its surrounding areas are still ruled by surviving Kulargi nobility, though they are forced to pay tribute to the norsemen every now and then.

What should we do?
A.Establish contact with the surviving Kulargi nobility near Podermos

House Yalmfrid
The Kulargi tribe started around the same time as the Tribe of rog
Cadet Branch of The Ruling House of Kulargi, they survived the Purge of The Northmen due to not being Heir to the throne themselves but are still liked amonst the population.
By Bloodright they technically inherited most of the kingdom apart fromt the lands to east who should belong to paitras due to cumbersome mariages imposed to The kulargi to ensure peace.
House Yalmfrid is well know to come from Kulargas JelFried "The lustful" King of Kulagar before Kulagar was vassalized by Paitras.
Before Roggar accepted the pantheon House Runivrid accepted the Pantheon and Kulargi became a Monarchy thus discrediting house Jelfried and Yalmfrid supremacy making House Runivrid the royal house until their demise due to the Northmen purging them.
Nowadays House Yalmfrid live in their main County since the foundation of the house Podermos to hide and rule from there far from the Norse's reach to survive the massacre of House Jelfried, they do little apart provide tributary when needed and trying to admnistrate what is left of the Kulargi Duchy instored by Paitras.
Few Houses can pretend to a better claim than them for the Throne of Kulargi at the moment and fewer are still alive whilst being able to do so.
For now their position on Roggar is thankful, thanks to the diversified position Roggar has toward Kulagi the Yalmfrid were able to survive by Hiding in the fortress of Trusted defence during the war and are thankful for it.
Their Emblem is a Ship with shields on it's side one the sea.
The color scheme is different for house Jelfried and Yalmfrid.
A blue sea and Red shield for with brown boat whilst Yalmfrid emblem has a Red sea with brown shields and a Blue boat.
The current head of the Clan is Armled a 37 year old man who saw the war and survived the Horde, he doesn't Know what Happened in Nayte but believe that Divine Intervention happened to slay the demons and the Horde.
He want the tributary to end is ready to help anybody able to do so.
He wish his family to rise again to power and to have the stain of being a cadet branch removed.

We've sent envoys to Podermos to meet with the surviving Kulargi aristocracy
>>454569

This is the ruler of Podermos, Armled Yalmfrid. He has the ability to raise no more than a thousand men at present, but his presence would inspire the Kulargi to take up arms and to join us.

He was technically a Count when Paitras was still standing, now he's the last semi-independent ruler of the Kulargi.
He has the best claim to the throne of Kulargar, but has expressed his willingness to work with us.
In return he asks that he recieves the title "Duke of Kulargar" and be granted the lands currently ruled by Warlord Skruglan. His own holding, Podermos, he is willing to give over to the Trusted Advisor Faction of Roggar.
The other Kulargi lands we could liberate are something we'll decide on later(preferably I'd like them to belong to younger factions or be used for the founding of new ones)

The warlords, it seems, are content with the occasional skirmish between each other, but otherwise don't bother their neighbours. They haven't reacted to our negotiations with Count Yalmfrid yet.

We've now assembled our forces outside Shekelsburg. Count Yalmfrid has sent 300 warriors, led by his marshall, a minor noble by the name of Ersfen Kufrid.

By our scouts' estimates, our forces greatly outnumber those of the Warlord Skruglan who we will be fighting now - we liberated Vudles with ease and now march on the city of Kulargar, where the Warlord has had the locals build a strong wooden fort for him.

Warlord Skruglan is an old, experienced and cruel war leader, he was a young warrior when the norsemen invaded these lands during the Second Horde War.
Our assassin failed to take him out and was captured, tortured, interrogated and executed publicly. Before we could stop them, messengers rode out to the east to warn the two other warlords of the danger we pose.

The fort has strong wooden walls, gates and towers and a garrison of around 1300, with abundant supplies.
We have an army of around 15 000 and we have ballistae and onagers at our disposal.

A.Assault the fort(faster, more losses)

First reply was 88
And the date today is the eight day of the eight month in '16(which is two times eight)

Our siege engineers were struck by some holy/unholy inspiration - they launched diseased corpses and animals into the fort. The norsemen took too long to react and by that time the diseases had already claimed many victims.
After the warlord himself died, the garrison continued to resist for a few days before the last 300 men surrendered.

Our priests are certain they can treat these survivors back to health

A.Just kill them off quickly, don't risk exposing others to the disease
B.Treat them and make them fight for us
C.Pretend to treat them, then send them on their way, making sure they go to the other warlords where they may spread the disease (if this backfires, we'll have an epidemic on our hands, but the possible gains are also great)

The warlords Sredgnarr and Orrignan had heard of the news and decided to put their differences aside and gathered their forces - around 4000 norse warriors by our estimates - at Ostogyol.

The interesting thing is that the Warlord Sredgnarr has sent us a messenger in secret.
He is offering to betray Orrignan and to offer his services to us - most of the remaining norsemen would not resist and would either return home or also fight for our Kingdom.
Sredgnarr says that he has been the most kind(which is to say, least tyrannical) of the norse warlords, he hasn't been harassing the locals as much as the others and he will swear eternal loyalty to our Kingdom, provided we let him keep his current territory
A.Agree, but only if he converts to the faith of the Pantheon and renounces his heathen ways

C.Offer to spare him, but only let him keep Ostogyol
D.Offer to spare him and let him fight for us, but he won't get any lands

[This is an opening for a faction that now if anyone wishes to play it, I'll control it's actions until then]
We won't give him any lands yet, but he'll be able to fight for us, perhaps prove himself useful - Warlord Sredgnarr killed his rival, Orrignan and has taken over the remaining norsemen warriors in Kulargar.
Those who weren't killed fled to the north, leaving us with a force of 2800 norse warriors eager for action.
They've relinquished control of all Kulargi lands now to us.
Armled Yalmfrid has been granted the title of Duke and the lands around Kulargar are his personal demense.
This war is over now - all the lands as far east as Patvas are now ours.
Further east, into former Paitran lands, some norse warlords still rule over the locals.

With the newly added territories, we've expanded our human population with 100 000, of which around 15% are norse settlers.

Ah the Trusted Advisers is a collection of people from across the kingdom represented by a single wise man. (I always imagined them as human but I suppose other races intellectuals would join). However I would ask your help with something, I believe it is in the nations best intrests to continue it's expansion across territoty and so in 4 turns I will be rolling to inspire a rebellion in the Norse controlled parts of Paitras, with the hopes of moving in and bringing them under out influences. Failing that then building a newer town to the south.

During the Second Horde War, Nayte and its surroundings were destroyed by a massive magical explosion that wiped out thousands and left many scarred for life, while their children now bear slight abnormalities and are referred to as "Manaborn" humans.
We built dams and barriers to prevent water from flooding the Nayte crater. Warning signs tell people to avoid entering the area, but it has been ignored time and time again as researchers, explorers and scavengers have toured the crater over the years.
Explorers recently discovered a strange new feature - a rocky structure similar to a large doorway. It was a curious thing to note, but what's more curious is that now - a couple of months later - we've detected magical energies stemming from that gate. Priests of Charodei, known also as "Wizards", have said that this must be one of the legendary "Portals", one of the most powerful manifestations of magic on the Mortal Plane - some are said to be able to bypass the barriers between the Planes, in fact!

What shall we do about this?

12 hours passed by and the party returned from the other side of the portal - bruised, exhausted and looking weary - some of them having started growing beards, despite having gone in with shaven faces.
The scouts say they felt as though several days had gone by after they entered the portal.
It didn't take them long to realise where this portal leads to....Hell.
On the other side they soon spotted demon guards. Our scouts were able to hide themselves and saw a strange sight - demons fighting demons. The guards were outnumbered and slowly, but steadily being swarmed by a more numerous horde of demonic creatures of all sizes.
The party managed to get a shot at escaping through the gate again and took it, but now that we've taken a headcount, only 19 have returned...

AS FAR AS THE HOLY SCRIPTURES GO:
Some of the priests present believe that a short-term expedition wouldn't be against the will of the Gods - to attempt to permamently conquer or settle another plain is wrong and to be there for too long would also be heretical, but circumstances can be used to forgive an expedition - regardless, priests of the Pantheon are all in agreement that this Portal should be destroyed or at the very least deactivated as soon as possible.
This expedition may actually help with that, which is why it is being sanctioned.

Accompanied with him is two senior members of the order which volunteered to join him.

They are all equiped with the standard ranger loadout consisting of a long bow their primary weapon and a short sword their backup. They are protected by a cloak and their armor made of hardened leather reinforced with metal in key places.

Oh, and as for intentions? Recruit demons to help us get shit done on the surface, and failing that, see if we can get info on the afterlife. I need some peace of mind about Nayte. I knew too many friends who died that day, and I can't just leave without knowing what happened to them.
>>
Followers of the Academy are sending Keir Stormhands, smooth-talking, self-motivated, power-hungry dick with a heart of bronze, along with an old Nayte golem, used for carrying potions and gear. He's a distinguished lightning mage and a solid swordfighter, using an antique spatha enchanted with low level lightning magic that basically makes it a long, sharp taser. He'll always take the path of least resistance, which frequently means talking his way out of situations. He's also wearing some battered steel armor from the Roggar Rebellion, a relic from his deserter grandfather. Minor protection enchantment, but really just a standard issue cuirass and skirt.

A total of 50(39 slots taken, 11 reserves for mooks and late-joiners) have prepared and have crossed the Portal.

Upon crossing, we spot the remains of a battlefield.
We approach the demons that seem to have been guarding this portal - about 20 of them remain, having fortfied themselves in a position that overlooks the exit of the canyon that one must go through in order to reach this point. Using this chokepoint, the guards have been able to hold out this long against more numerous opponents.

The demon guards aren't all that surprised by our presence.
"Well, hardly unexpected to see mortals here. I thought you'd actually take less than two weeks to get in here, heh"
Strange, given how the Portal's been open for less than two days on the other side...
"You're not really supposed to be here, but the Portal shouldn't be open either."
What is this place, your party asks
"This is one of many smaller entrances, you could say. Not really The Gates of Hell, more like a tiny backdoor, but it's completely open to the Mortal World and in both directions, which is strange."
Why are these other demons fighting these guards?
"We are meant to be guards of Hell, servants of Mor, you could say...though this is a job we've been doing since before that, but that's another topic. Well, some unruly bastards like the ones we're fighting really don't like staying around here, so any chance they get, theyll use to try and cross over to your World. It's our job to stop them, but it's gotten harder now with the opening of this Portal. We need to close it. Something's keeping it open, though we're not quite sure what. We'd have to get to the closest Headquarters to see our superiors. For that purpose, we could use your help - I could spare one or two of my subordinates to go along with you, they must reach Headquarters to find out what's going on. The rest of us must stay here to guard the Portal."

A it is
We express our desire to negotiate, rather than immediately engage in hostilities.
Our party has been approached by a peculiar-looking female demon...quite the eye-catcher, in fact.
"Oh how good it is to see fresh...faces. Say, you came through the Portal? How quaint! You know, Hell gets quite boring after a while. I've heard the weather and food in the Mortal Plane is sooooo much better.
Say, what do you think about helping us take a trip to the Portal? Those dull guys that are guarding it are troublesome. I'd see to it that you were rewarded for helping us with our little problem. We won't bother you afterwards, hehe."
A.Try to just let them pass and ask not to be attacked as long as we don't attack them

As Rat and Hyd hang back, bothered by their own particular problems, something breaks inside the head of Manman, worse than before. Tears well up in his eyes. "ITWONTEVERSTOP!" He screams out. What was left of the man inside Manman is gone.

Of the 50 that entered the Portal, few managed to return. Ambushed by the demons, most in the party perished.
A few escaped back into the Mortal Plane, warning the Kingdom of the coming threat.

I'm too tired to write stuff now, so if you want, I'll let each of you write the final scene of your respective characters (if they died) or what happened or whatever you want.
That's all for today, maybe tomorrow will be the next thread.

As the demons tore away his flesh, the person known to most as "Manman" cried out, not just in pain, but in sadness. The only thought in his mind was not his impending death, but of Emily, the child he once knew in his former life as a functioning human being. The daughter who was one of many who died that fateful day in Nayte. The one whose tears finally shredded the last dregs of sanity when Manman needed them most.

As the last breath leaves his lungs, a young girl's sobs echo throughout the burning landscape of Hell.

Merc 2 survived, passing on Rowan Hawthorne's sword to his son Rory. He succumbed to his wounds a few days later.

Rory never forget what his father's last actions were. Despite Rowan wanting power, in the end he sacrificed it all to try and save a friend. In his time, he seeks to strengthen bonds among the Manaborn, and bring stability to Paitras, whether through blood or diplomacy. But he will never forgive demons for what they did to his father and comrades, as long as he lives.
>>
>>456099
The one called "Hyd", or perhaps "Jek" depending on when you talked to him, had his tale end slightly differently. He was last seen talking to himself as the chaos began around him; and then he just seemed to have disappeared.

Those who spoke to Jek would say he must have stood his ground and fought to the end. Beating down demon after demon, never giving in or surrendering, fighting them back until he was no longer able, drowning in his own blood and spit as he mus brutalised, yet still smiling all the way.

Those who spoke to Hyd, however, tell a different story. They say he was wise, and chose to flee with the other troops rushing back to the portal, disguised as one of them. Wearing the blood stained armor of a fallen man, and becoming them heart and soul. Still living to this day, a stranger, and yet a friend. Living amongst us without us even knowing.

How do we know which is true? Flip a coin, and find out for yourself.
>>
Shin-Hui blasted many demons around him with earthen magic but was quickly overwhelmed and torn to pieces, his corpse devoured by savage monsters
Berek Dunluth however fought side by side with Guttsu cleaving many a demon with his mighty blade alonside his brother in arms. In a fight that would last for over 3 hours Berek Dunluth and Guttsu would spill and bathe in the blood of countless demons. The demons had never seen anything like it and for the first time in their millenia of reign in hell they felt a chilling emotion leak into them. Fear. One by one they approached and one by one they fell, the huge blade of Guttsu tearing through limb, bone and pulp to devastating effect, and the holy sword of Berek taking not only the demons life, but their very souls. Wave after wave was puched back until one fateful strike cut into the chest of an already wounded Berek. He had lost sight of his blade brother but was happy to have fought alongside such a mighty warrior and to have died in service of the nation. Hours passed and the demons would still not approach the kneeling figure of Berek with his holy blade still in hand, yet dead he was and ultimately victorious were the demons. However the tale of Berek Reaper the Soul Keeper would plague the dreams of many demons for generations to come.
>>
>>456142
And finally, Rat. Rat. Rat, rat, rat rat rat. In life, he lived as his namesake did; feasting on the cold and decaying flesh of those who fell before him. Unsurprisingly, he died much the same way.

He was always a simple fellow. You couldnt even imagine him having a life before Nayte. Yet there were no regrets in the feeble mind of the Rat; his final day was his favourite. He got to run, and play, and feast on the meat, like a happy little Rat does.

And of course, "happy" to Rat means tearing apart a body and feeling his teeth sink into the bloody chunks laid before him. This is a man wearing little but torn sackcloth pants, and he still killed more than many soldiers did in that battle. A whirling dervish of death, Rat ate and ate and ate to his hearts content. A throat torn out here, an eye plucked out there, an arm or a leg paid to satisty his hunger. Demon or ally, it didn't matter.

Do you know how the demons killed poor, dirty Rat? He laid down on the hard ground in the infernal landscape around him, put his hands on his stomach, and smiled a bloody, gore laden smile. He closed his eyes and let the demons converge on him, satisfied by his one final meal.

And as Berek was stuck down, all Guttsu could do was watch in horror as his brother-in-arms was struck down. He was reminded of the Battle of Mor's Forest, in which all of his companions and friend's were butchered by the legion of Mor's Chosen and the vengeful Demons of Nayte. Berek kneeled, taking one last shaky breath, and fell silent as Mor took him. Seeing the death of his battle brother, and fueled by the nightmare of Mor's Forest, Guttsu flew into a rage, determined to strike down the demons that plagued him so, both physical and spiritual.
An hour passed from when the last survivors escaped from the clutches of Hell. As the surviving expedition members debated among themselves, a bloodied being came out of the Gate. To this day, know-one knows how Guttsu survived the slaughter in Hell, or of the horrors Guttsu faced while within the Gate, only that his body was brutalized, and his left arm is but a stump at the elbow. And so began the rumors of The Demon Slayer, The Black Swordsman, Guttsu of the Dragon Guard.
