This was your party, once upon a time. The one-eyed Rogue, the righteous knight, the level headed priest and you. The wise old mage. After saving the world, you were all rewarded. The rogue married the princess and became the one-eyed king. The knight was made head of the kings guard. The priest was made leader of the church and chosen by his god . You were given a tall tower, outside of town that was built at the intersection of two lay lines. You began moving in and at about half way, you lost your keys. You have been trapped in this room for 25 years. You know the basics of all schools of magic from your adventuring days but you hadn't moved your books into the tower when you lost your key. You are a master of only one school because you were carrying a single book in your cloak. Which school was it again?

You use your magic abilities to run to the nearest town that isn't shadowed by the castle. You have an urge to assault the castle even though, last time you checked, it was owned by your close friend. That 25 years ago.
This town is a lot smaller than you remember and all the houses are now made of stone instead of the wood that they used to be made of. A lone man sits in the shadow of a house. You're surprised he isn't working the field because he looks too roughed up to be a merchant

Those filthy orcs came through here about a year ago and burnt down all the houses. They came back just a couple days ago and salted the land so there's no point in farming for a while. "The king died of a heart attack about a week before the attack without an heir. He was getting near 50 so there wasn't a big surprise. There was a battle between the two largest families because naturally, they both wanted the throne so our resources were exhausted. Just made it easier for the orcs."
