“Happy Birtday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear...”

The next word is a strange mixture of “Ace” and “Robin”. It seems the people in your life are unsure with what name they should associate you more with.

It's been over three months since TWA was bought out. Three months and four days, if you want to get exact. Ninety-five days is how you count it though. You've been counting every single day since then. Ninety-five days since you won that match against Kassius Orwin. Ninety-five days since you held your first title in your hands. Ninety-five days since the announcement that TWA had been bought out.

Ninety-five days since you last wrestled. Ninety-five days since you've felt right.

You were cautiously optimistic about the buy-out at first. You were worried about people possibly losing their jobs in the transition, but were excited at the prospect of moving up to a bigger and better company. Ninety-five days later, and all you've gotten were a long-string of “We have plans in effect”, “We're working on something currently” and “We'll get back to you” from Proxy, the head booker of Total Impact Wrestling.

As you blow out the nineteen candles on the cake, you wish that the drought would end, and that you can return to the ring soon.

You look up from the cake to see all of your friends crammed tightly inside your small apartment. Even Owen and Patty, two friend who you thought would be busy on the road with UPW took time out of their busy schedules to see you on your birthday. Even Proxy decided to make an appearance, for whatever reason, but she doesn't seem to be enjoying herself. Of course, she never seems to be enjoying herself, her face has always been cold and expressionless.

“Open your presents!” Kimberly exclaims with excitement. You smile as you turn your attention to the small table of gifts next to you. You pick the first box from the pile. This one if from Abby.

You open it up and pull out a medium sized-figurine. “It's an official figure from that superhero movie we watched a few weeks ago,” Abby explains, though she really didn't need to. It's a pretty recognisable superhero. “I... I hope you like it.”

You smile as you set the figuring on the coffee table. “Thanks, Abby. It's really cool.”
>>
Abby gives a blushing smile as you pick up the next gift, from...

“Kevin?” you glance over at your grumpy mentor. “I didn't expect you to get me something.”

“Good, don't expect me to get you anything else, Kiddo.”

You chuckle as you unwrap the gift to reveal a pair of Black&White kickpads. They've got a real professional design to them, though they look a little worn.

“Like 'em?” Kevin asks. “I wore those at the 2003 Royal Rumble PPV! You can have them, now!”

“You gave him an old hand-me-down?” Danny asks. “Dude, aren't you rich?”

“It's all about the sentiment,” Kevin replies. “This is me passing something on to my student.”

“Oh,” Danny mutters, “So does that mean I can get some kickpads for my-”

“No.”

You continue to unwrap presents one-by-one, as the party shifts focus from everyone crowding around you to various mingling among the guests. Despite how cramped your apartment is, quite a few conversations break out, while some of the less fun-loving members of the party, namely Proxy and Omega, are able to each find themselves a corner to brood in. As you set your gifts to the side, you pick yourself of the couch and make your way to one of the party-goers.

>Danny

If there's one person who is just a frustrated about not being able to wrestle as you are, it's Danny. Of course, "Diamond" Danny is more the type to take it all on the chin, but you can tell that he's irritated as well. Of course, you don't want to talk to Danny just to complain about your situation. He's your friend, and is usually the life of parties.

As you approach him, he's quick to embrace you with a hug. "Hey, how's it going birthday dude? Did you like my gift?"

"Yeah," you reply with a polite smile. "I mean, I don't remember showing any interest in Entourage, but getting me the entire box-set was pretty generous of you."

"Dude, you're going to love it, trust me!" Danny laughs, sipping on his drink. "So... I've got a question, dude. About... the ladies."

You sigh and shake your head. "Danny no, you know I'm trying to steer clear of romantic stuff after the debacle a few months ago."

"But you're still taking Abby out on dates," Danny smirks.

"They aren't dates," you maintain. "We just see a lot of movies together, as friends. There's not a lot else to do when my career prospects are still up in the air."

Danny scratches the back of his head. "Tell me about it, dude. I've been restless this last while..." He turns his head over towards Proxy. "Look at her over there... sipping on a drink, looking like a facepainted robot programmed without feelings... what secrets is she hiding? What the hell is she going to do with us."

"I have no idea," you reply. "But if she intended to just fire us an move on, she would have done it by now. She clearly has some kind of plan for us in the future."

You wonder how far into the future, though. Will you be celebrating another birthday between now and then.

"I hope so... anyway, can I ask for girl advice?"

"I feel like you're going to ask anyway, so-"

"Great!" Danny exclaims, before hushing his voice slightly. "Look, you know I've always had a thing for Kimberly, and I know you and her dated and it didn't end well, and that was all partly my fault and I'm sorry."

"It's fine," you say, waving your hand, planning to move past that nightmare.

"Anyway," Danny continues, "Me and the Princess have gotten a lot... closer, lately. Normally she can't stand me, but these days she's coming over to my house to hang out, cook and watch t.v together. I think my charms have finally got to her, and I'm in with a shot! What do you think, Ace?"

>I'm not a relationship expert, but I say go for it. What's the worst that can happen.
>I'd wait and see. What you described could just be friendship, and I don't want you getting your hopes up.
>I think you should give up on Kim, move on. Try to focus on other girls.
>You should do what I'm doing. Stop chasing girls around for a while and focus on your career.

I might even suggest playing coy with Kimberely, even if you suspect she likes you, you should play dumb with her till she wants to throw herself at you so you finally get the message.

>I'd wait and see. What you described could just be friendship, and I don't want you getting your hopes up.

"What, so I'm supposed to wait and see in both my professional AND my romantic life?" Danny whines. "That's so boring, dude!"

You shrug. "Yeah, but boring is better than a train-wreck."

"Yeah, I suppose you have experience there..." Danny mutters. "Uhh, sorry again."

"You don't have to apologise every single time, you know."

"Yeah, I know..." Danny replies. "It's just become a habit at this point."

You look around as you make note of a few of the conversations going on around you. Kimberly has approached Omega in his corner and is trying to get a conversation out of him, an act that is quite similar to pulling teeth.

David and Jenny meanwhile are completely pre-occupied with each-other. You look over at the making out on your couch, and as much as you want to be annoyed, you can't help but feel happy for those two. David moved out of your place and in with Jenny shortly after the TWA buyout. They've been living together for coming on to three months now, and while neither of them can be considered a "normal" person, their relationship is incredibly healthy.

You also notice as Proxy decides to join in all of the conversation, approaching Abby and asking her a question. "Why do you have anxiety?"

"I... e-excuse me?" Abby mutters nervously.

"I asked for the cause of your anxiety," Proxy repeats. "I'm curious. Were you molested at a young age, perhaps?"

Owen spits out his drink in shock as he steps in on the conversation. "Okay, that is definitely not how you talk to people! Hannah, I would have thought you'd have improved your people skills by now."

"Don't call me Hannah," Proxy states.

Owen sighs. "Come on. We dated for over two years. I can't call you by your real name for once? Besides, what are you even doing at this party?"

"I thought it polite to attend the birthday party of one of my employees," Proxy states, her voice as cold as ever.

He's trying to keep up a confident face, but you can tell Owen feels uncomfortable in the same room with her. As long as he doesn't end up asking something stupid-

"So, do you ever think about me?"

Well, never mind.

Proxy tilts her head. "No. No I do not."

Owen smiles and nods nervously. "Ah... good to know," he mutters, his voice cracking a little, as he turns to approach you. "Hey Ace! Happy Birthday! You know, it's a little crowded in here, you mind chatting out in the hallway for a minute?"

"Back off, Barnes! He's mine!" Patty interjects. "I haven't seen my best pal in months, and I'll be damned if you're pulling him away!"

>Owen asked first, Patty. I'll get back to you later, okay?
>Sorry Owen, can it wait? I really want to speak with Patty.

"You better!" Patty exclaims, poking you hard in the chest. "I'm back on the road tomorrow, and it could be another few months before I get the chance to talk to you again!"

You and Owen step out into the hallway of the apartment building, and he leans against one wall as you lean against the other. "This is a real nice party, Ace."

Coming from anyone other than Owen, that would sound sarcastic, but The Chosen One is a beacon of sincerity.

"I'm surprised you could make it," you reply. "I thought you'd be busy, considering you're working a program with Jacob Cassidy over the Intercontinental title."

"Hey, it's only one day," Owen smiles. "And Jacob can work a few house shows without me. He's cool with that, the two of us go way back."

"Really?" you ask. "I didn't know that."

"We trained together," Jacob explains.

"Huh... who under?"

Owen pauses. "You know, that's actually the reason I pulled you out here. Look, you'll be working for Total Impact soon, and there's... someone working there that you need to keep your eye on."

"Yeah, you already told me not to trust Proxy," you reply.

Owen shakes his head. "No, not Hannah... though my advice on her still stands. I'm talking about their world champion. James Daniels."

"What, Omega's old tag partner?" you ask. "Why would I need to keep my eye on him?"

"Because of his relation to Omega," Owen explains. "I think we both know how much James hates the guy, and don't think he's above taking it out on Omega's students. Getting through Total Impact is going to be an uphill battle."

"Okay..." you mutter, "But how do you know how much Daniels hates Omega?"

Owen hesitates to answer, scratching the back of his head. "Well, you see... I kinda know Daniels personally. In fact... I was trained by him."

>You were? That's really cool!

>You were? That's really cool!

"Huh?" Owen remarks, seemingly surprised by your response.

"Yeah, that's really cool!" you reply. "I was trained by one half of the Wildcards, and you were trained by the other! That's a pretty cool coincidence!"

Owen smiles. "Yeah... I guess you're right! I suppose we're just a lot more connected than either of us think!"

"Think about how they're going to sell it when we inevitably have a match in UPW!" you exclaim. "The students of two great rivals fight for their respective mentor's honour! Now, that's exciting, right?"

"Heh, it sure is," Owen laughs. "I look forward to it. Maybe it'll be as soon as a year from now, but I don't want to get too optimistic."

"Okay, that's fantastic!" you hear Patty yell from the other side of the door as it swings open. "Conversation offer, I'm taking the dummy now!"

Patty grabs you by the wrist and begins to drag you back into the apartment.

"Patty, I was still talking to-"

"Eh, I was listening, you guys hit all the main points. What, did I interrupt your hugging time?" Patty laughs, looking back at you as she moves forward. She should have been looking where she was going, though, as she immediately bumps into someone, knocking their drink over them... and it was the last person she wanted to bump into.

Kevin stares down at his now vodka-soaked shirt and lets out a sigh. "Hey..." he mutters awkwardly.

"H-hey..." Patty mutters as well, placing a strand of the hair she's been growing out since you last saw her behind her ear. "So... how are you?"

"I'm..." Kevin begins, but doesn't follow up with an end to the sentence. "How are you?"

"I'm working," Patty replies. "You know... that whole wrestling thing. I'm actually part of a tag team now, it's pretty cool. Have... you been watching?"

Omega shakes his head. "Nah... too painful."

"Oh..." Patty mutters, as she begins to walk on. It's strange... you know things are awkward between them, but you would have expected them to engage in at least some kind of war of words. You realise both are hesitant to really interact with the other.
>>
As Patty walks on by, Omega sighs and turns around. "Hey Patty..." he says solemnly.

Patty turns her head back. "Yeah?"

Kevin nods his head, knowing the only thing he can say to alleviate the tension. "You should look where you're going next time, dumbass. I like this shirt."

"Oh please!" Patty exclaims, her energy suddenly having returned to her. "Give me a fucking break! You're the one walking around drowning himself in Vodka!"

"It's a party!" Kevin protests.

"Yeah, that's being held at three in the afternoon!" Patty fires back. "Don't you have any control of your life!"

"No! This is a fact that's been established!" Kevin answers back.

You can't help but laugh a little. As odd as it seems, this is probably a good sign for the two of them.

"Uhh Patty, not to interrupt, but you wanted to-"

"Yeah, I'll get back to you!" Patty waves her hand. "I have a fuckstick to put in his place, first!"

You shrug as you look around at the rest of the party. Maybe you should chat with someone you haven't gotten around to yet, someone who isn't pre-occupied.

It's about time you talked to Kimberly during the party. After all, she is your oldest friend out of all those present. You find her sitting on the edge of the couch, as David and Jenny are doing their business directly behind her. She smiles as you approach and stretches out her arms. "Come here, birthday boy!"

She wraps her arms around your neck and hugs you tight. She gives you a quick peck on the cheek before pulling away and placing her hands on your shoulder. It's the most affection she's shown towards you since the two of you were dating, you're glad to see that the awkwardness between the two of you has begun to clear up. "So Ace, what did you wish for on your birthday cake?"

"You're not supposed to say that, or they don't come true," you reply.

Kimberly laughs. "Wow, you actually did make a wish? I was just kidding, but that's adorable! What did you wish for? Knowing you, it had something to do with wrestling."

"You know me too well," you smile.

"What kind of friend would I be if I couldn't get that?" Kimberly laughs. "So... what do you think these plans are that Proxy has in store?"

"What do you mean?" you ask.

"Well, if it was a simple as putting us on tv, having a tryout match or whatever, she would have done it by now. Something tells me that she's planning to use us for something very different... don't you think?"

>I just want to wrestle. No silly gimmicks.

>I just want to wrestle. No silly gimmicks.

Kimberly nods and smiles. "I'm not surprised to hear that. You've always been the most... intense of us."

"I thought that was David," you reply.

"He's the most intense in conversation," Kimberly explains. "You're the most intensely passionate of us."

Kimberly glances over at Proxy before turning back to you. "Still... I wonder what she has planned. Have you watched Total Impact lately?"

"I've caught a few episodes," you reply. Trying to watch any more than that proved too hard, as you kept getting annoyed that you weren't competing.

"It's a pretty good show," Kimberly remarks, "But I really don't want to be part of any of those eye-candy matches that they've got."

"Eye-candy?"

"Let's not beat around the bush," Kimberly laughs. "I'm not modest, and I'm an attractive girl. I don't want to be stuck doing silly strip matches or lingerie pillow fights with some model who doesn't know the difference between a wristlock and a wristwatch because of it."

"That won't happen," you say reassuringly. "They wouldn't waste your talent on crap like that."

"I hope so," Kimberly sighs. "Anyway, I'm going to grab a drink. I won't hold you for too long."

She wanders off, as you see an opportunity to pick up a few of the gifts and move them into your bedroom, where it's less crowded. You slide past David and Jenny on the couch as you pick them up and make your way into your room. You set the presents down atop your wardrope as you enter. Dusting her hands off you turn around to find a black haired girl sitting on the foot of your bed.

"Abby, why are you in my room?"

Abby squeaks nervously, and throws her hands up. "I-I wasn't waiting for you or anything! I-I swear! It's just... there's a little of people in that small room, and I got nervous, and it was a little difficult to breathe, so I wanted to go out into the hallway to catch my breath, b-but you and Owen were talking in the hallway, so I hid out here!"

Well, that was a lengthier explanation than it needed to be. "That's fine, Abby. You know, I really should have asked Danny if we could throw this party at his place... I guess I underestimated how many people would come."

"Yeah, it's a little intimidating..." Abby mutters.

"Intimidating? You know everyone out there," you reply. "Why are you intimidated?"

"H-her..." Abby mutters. "Proxy... she scares me too much. I... I wasn't molested as-"

"Yeah, I know," you answer.

"Okay..." Abby sighs. "It's just that she asked it, and I was worried people might start thinking I had. I just can't work up the courage to talk to that woman... not even about... you know..."

>You need to ask her about your job eventually, Abby.

>You need to ask her about your job eventually, Abby.

Abby fidgets uncomfortably on your bed. "I know... but what if the answer isn't the one I want?"

"That's a risk we all have to take, Abby," you reply.

"But I've always wanted to get into the production and music side of wrestling and... and this could be my only chance!"

"Then don't waste it," you answer back. "I'm sure Proxy the type who respects those who take initiative."

"I-initiative... huh?" Abby mutters. She takes a deep breath. "Okay... I'm... I'm going to march out there and ask Proxy if I still have a job!"

"Good!" You exclaim, giving her a pat on the back. "You can do it! I believe in you, Abby."

"Okay... here I go..."

Abby steps out of your bedroom and approaches Proxy, who is sitting comfortably in a chair, her face buried in her phone. Abby clears her throat in order to grab her attention. "E-excuse me, Miss Proxy?"

"Oh, it's you again," Proxy states blankly.

"Y-yes, it is..." Abby mumbles. "I... I just have to ask, I was under contract as a music producer with TWA at the time of the buyout, and I haven't received any word back on what my services will be moving forward."

"I see," Proxy nods, placing her phone in the front pocket of her shirt. "Well, I suppose now is as good a time as any..."

Hang on, no it's not! She's not going to say what you think she's going to say at a birthday party, is she?

"You see Miss Johnston, Total Impact Wrestling's music and production departments are already fully staffed. The buyout of TWA was merely for the sake of the in-ring talent. To bring you on board would just be redundant."

Abby stares at Proxy like a deer stuck in headlights. "S-so... are you telling me... I'm f-fired?"

"To put it bluntly, yes."

Abby pauses, before sprinting out the door, tears filling her eyes.

>Go after Abby

You sigh. You should have figured that there couldn't be a gathering of all the people in your life without something bad happening. It's pretty much tradition at this point. You run out into the hallway, where you find Abby pacing back and forth. She sees you approaching and runs to you, wrapping her arms around you tight and hugging into you, her face buried in your chest as she cries.

You reciprocate the hug, placing your hand comfortingly on the back of your head. "R-Robin... what am I going to do? I don't have a job..." she sniffles.

"It'll be okay," you reassure her. "This is just a setback. I'll talk to Proxy, and I'll try to get something for you... okay?"

"You... you will?" Abby asks, peering out of your chest to look up at you.

"I'll do my best," you smile.

"O-okay..." Abby pulls out of the hug, and begins to wipe the tears away with the sleeve of her flannel jacket. She takes another deep breath to calm herself. "Thank you, Robin. I... I just want that job so bad, any job from that side of things. I'd... I'd take an unpaid job, I'll make coffee or something. Just so I can get my foot in the door."

"Don't worry, you'll get something," you reply. "And hey... you actually went and asked Proxy about your job! You did it!"

"Yeah... b-but I still went running away crying like a baby when she fired me..." Abby mutters.

"Hey, you took a big step just now," you reassure her. "I'm proud of you."

"Thanks..." Abby smiles. "Uhh... sorry I made a bit of a scene at your party."

"Eh, if this is the worst scene that happened, I'm counting myself lucky," you joke. "I'd rather you cause a scene than Omega cause a scene any day."

Abby giggles, as you hear the door of your apartment creak open, as others begin to step out. Huh, the party was beginning to wind down anyway, you suppose.

"Oh, am I interrupting the love birds?" Danny laughs. Kimberly shoots him a glance. "No, I am not," Danny states.

As they step out of the apartment, you see that Omega and Patty are still arguing. "I hope your tag partner becomes more popular than you after the inevitable break-up!"

"And I hope you trip in the shower and fail to get up! About time you realise how damn old you are!"

"I'm 43, ass!"

"You're right, you're not that old! You only perv on girls two decades younger!"

Patty grabs you by the arm as she apporaches. "Dammit, I didn't get the chance to talk to you today!" she exclaims. "Look, Owen and I won't be catching our flight until early tomorrow morning, so do you think you can grab an early breakfast with me in that dinner near this building? I'm talking real early, like 5am?"

"Okay, don't make it all sappy and lame!" Patty laughs as she pokes your chest.

"I don't think that was lame..." you mutter, rubbing the space in between your ribs. Damn, she pokes hard.

"Now, I have to make a few phonecalls and fill out a few forms tonight, so I can't stick around... I'll catch you tomorrow morning," Patty smiles, before slowly turning her head towards Omega. "And you... I guess I'll see you around sometime..."

"Yeah... maybe," Omega shrugs. Damn, the air between those two just got tense again.

Patty sighs as she turns and starts walking down the hallway, until Omega calls out after her. "Hey... take care, Patty."

Patty smiles back at him. "I will... you take care too, old fart."

Omega nods. "I'll try. No promises."

As Patty turns the corner in the hallway on the way to the elevator, Omega places a hand on your shoulder. "Are you ready for your second party, kiddo?"

"Second party?" you ask.

"Come on..." Omega replies, as he leads you out into the buildings car park.

"Where are we going?" you ask, as Danny, David, Kimberly and Owen all pool into Omega's car.

"We're going to my house," Omega explains. "Consider this a group gift."

You'd never consider anything that involves you getting into the Omegamobile a gift. His car has a weird smell to it, and it's always a new smell every time. You don't understand how that's even possible.

Kevin drives to his house, and opens up the door to his garage to reveal that his own personal ring has been set up.

"What's this about?" you ask.

"We knew how much you were itching to wrestle," David explains. "So, we're going to let you get a match in, stave off ring rust with one of us."

"Owen, you in on this too?" you ask.

Owen shakes his head and smiles. "This was all a brainchild of the Omega kids, but when I heard about it, I was happy to come along!"

"You can even wear those funky kickpads Omega got you!" Danny exclaims. "Now, who do you want to grapple with?"

"I should let you know that I'm not an option," Omega explains. "We've trained before, but my back has been killing me all week. I'm not going to be taking any bumps on it."

"Okay," you reply. "I'll take on..."

You've wrestled Danny and Kimberly before, and while you'd love to step into the ring with them again, you're curious to see how David operates as an opponent. You've only ever tagged with the guy before, it'll be interesting the see what he's like on the other side.

You step into a closet where you get changed into your gear, adding the black and white kickpads Omega gave you to it, as you step out. You can see that Danny is holding a microphone that isn't connected to anything as you step out, humming your TWA theme music before making the announcement. "And his opponent, from New York City... he is the reigning TWA Champion and the current birthday boy... THE AAAAAAACE!"

Owen gives a loud "Woo" as he takes on the role of the crowd.

Kimberly is in the ring with David, serving as the referee, while the Kingpins leans casually in the corner of the ring.

You slide into the ring and hold your fist high. The "Crowd" goes wild for you, and you can't contain the smile plastered on your face.

"Okay, I want a good clean fight guys," Kimberly mutters in her best referee voice. "No weapons, no low-blows, you know the drill. Now ring the bell!"

There is no bell, so Omega simply says "Ding, ding," in the most bored tone possible.

The match begins, and Kingpin comes running at you with a big boot. You roll forward, dodging under it as you end up behind him. He spins around and comes at you with another big boot, and you perform the same trick. The two of you start circling each-other as Owen applauds.

>I should use my speed and agility to combat his strength.

Time to show off your agility a little. Kingpin comes rushing at you with a clothesline. You duck under and keep running towards the ropes. You hop onto the middle rope and springboard off of it, coming at David with a crossbody. You take David down, but he rolls out of it, still clutching onto you. He tosses you up, placing you in position for a powerbomb, but you shift momentum once more, pulling back to bring him down with a hurricanrana. You hook his legs as you come down with his shoulders on the mat.

Kimberly hunkers down and counts the pin. 1... 2... David kicks out. No surprise there. A simple hurricanrana isn't going to keep someone like him down for the three count. As he rises to his feet, you deliver a kick to the ribs, causing him to double over as you leap over him, trying to take him back down to the mat for a sunset flip pin. You can't take him off his feet, however, no matter how much you pull at the base of his legs. David pulls you back up and pushes you into the ropes. You rebound, only to get taken down with s swift and powerful boot to the face from David. He moves real quick for a man of his size, as he drags you back to your feet. He raises you up into the air for some kind of slam, but you manoeuvre your way to safety, landing behind him as you run to the ropes once more. You spring back, but he catches you in mid-air. He swings you around, but you're able to use this momentum against your opponent, wrapping your arms around his waist as you bring him down with a Tornado DDT.

You roll to a corner as David lays recovering on the mat. While in the corner, you begin to set up for a bigger move.

As David lays on his back in the ring, you scale the turnbuckle, standing atop the top rope. You point your fingers to the sky as you leap from the top rope. You land atop David with the brunt of your elbow. You know that the top rope elbow is one of Owen's designated finishing moves, and you look over as you see him smiling. You smiles as well as you go for the pin on David.

1... 2... Kickout!

David's tough, you're probably going to have to hit him with something hard to keep him down for the three count. As he rises to his feet, you run to the ropes, hoping to take him down with a nice running shoulder block on the rebound. Kingpin catches you as you leap at him, however, and tosses you back with and overhead belly-to-belly suplex. You land on your back, rising to your feet quickly, as you dazily walk into another belly-to-belly suplex from David. You try to shake of the dizziness as you rise to your feet once again, and are once more caught by Kingpin. This time he doesn't toss you from the position, instead living you up and squeezing you tight in a bear hug submission. You feel the pressure on your back and on your ribs as the are compressed, as you struggle to break free. He's got an incredibly tight grip, and you find yourself having to deliver forearm shots to the face of The Kingpin in order for him to break his hold on you.

Kingpin tosses you back and you land on your feet, as he comes at you with another big boot, you duck underneath, and run to the ropes. You attempt another shoulder tackle, but David catches you and takes you to the mat with a sidewalk slam. He hooks the legs.

1... 2... And you kickout.

David drags you to your feet by the mask, but you throw some rights and lefts, then finally a headbutt, in order to create distance between the two of you. You charge at him again, and he swing for a clothesline. You duck and float over him, hoping to take him down with another DDT. He uses his strength to halt your momentum, however, as he tosses you back towards the corner. You land safely on your feet, ready to charge once more, this time with the intent to deliver one of your finishers.

>ACE CRUSHER

You run at David and leap up, wrapping your arms around his neck. You hoped to bring him down with the Ace Crusher, but he catches you as you coming down. He lifts you up and tosses you back over his shoulder, but you're able to land on your feet. David turns around and you catch him by surprise, leaping up and taking him down with the Ace Crusher! David comes crashing face first into the mat, and you roll him over for Kimberly to count the pin.

1... 2... 3!

"Ding Ding," a deadpan Omega mutters.

You raise you hands high up into the air in celebrations as the others applaud you.

"There you go, dude! I hope that scratched the itch for a while," Danny smiles.

"Yeah, it sure did," you reply, somewhat out of breath. "Man, I've been missing this."

"That was awesome!" Owen exclaims with excitement. "I need to get back to my hotel, so I'm going to take off now, but happy birthday!"

You and Owen share a quick hug as he makes his way for the exit. "Catch you around, Owen! Don't be a stranger!"

"I won't, buddy!" Owen smiles as he give an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Soon, the others begin to make their way back to their respective homes as you change out of your wrestling gear.

As you step back out into the garage, you see Omega already underway in deconstructing the ring. "Hope you enjoyed that gift," Omega mutters. "How were my old kickpads? They comfortable?"

You sigh and shake your head. "Kevin, these aren't your kickpads."

Omega pauses. "The hell are you talking about, of course they are! I told you, I wore them at the 2003 Royal Rumble."

"Kevin, I'm the biggest wrestling nerd on the planet," you reply. "In your match against Mr. Mystery at the 2003 Royal Rumble PPV, you wore silver kickpads to match the jacket you wore on that show. These aren't yours."

Kevin looks at you and lets out a sigh. "Damn... you're good. You should have your own detective show, where finding the killer always revolves around solving mysteries relating to obscure pro-wrestling trivia."

You hesitate to say it, but it can't go unmentioned. "These belonged to Logan, didn't they?"

Omega stares at you, unamused. "Yeah, I'm pawning off my dead brother's belongings as birthday gifts. What, is that such a crime, kiddo?"

>No, I'm honoured. I know how important your brother was to you.

Kevin continues to stare at you, before his eyes dart to the ground and he sighs. "Yeah... no problem. Just don't take this to mean that you're important to me. 'Cause you're not!"

You roll your eyes. Even in a nice moment like this he has to hide behind the tough guy act. "Sure thing, Omega... thank you."

"Yeah, whatever."

You stand around in the garage as Omega continues to dismantle the ring. "It was good seeing Patty today, wasn't it?" you ask.

Kevin scoffs. "I think you and I have very different definitions of the word good, kiddo."

You tilt your head and smirk. Kevin shakes his head, knowing that you aren't buying it. "Yeah... it was. Miss that little rocket."

You make your way over to him and start loosening the ropes.

"Hey hey hey!" Omega yells, pointing at you. "What do you think you're doing?"

"I'm helping you take this down," you reply. "You could use a hand."

"I don't need any help taking this thing down, I've done it a million times before!" Kevin boasts, before pausing. "But... sure. I appreciate it, kiddo."

>July 20th 2016

It's still dark outside as you rise from your bed, ready to meet with Patty at the diner for 5am. You clocked out pretty early last night. You were so exhausted after you got back from Omega's place, you placed that dvd of Entourage Danny got on your laptop and made it half-way through the first episode before clocking out.

When you wake up, you find two messages left for you on your cellphone.

>From: Proxy
>I would like to request a meeting with you at exactly 15:00 today at my office. Do not be late.

Man, even in writing she sounds automated. You'll have to deal with that later.

>From: Mom
>Happy birthday, Robin. I would like it if we got the chance to speak some time soon.

And that's something you'd prefer to deal with much later.

Whatever, you get a shower, dressed and head out to meet Patty a the dinner on the corner. You see her waiting outside in her brown longcoat, a suitcase by her side. She must be going straight to the airport after this breakfast.

"There you are!" Patty scowls. "What took you so fucking long?"

You raise an eyebrow. "Patty, I'm here right on time. You said 5am."

"Yeah, well I expected you to take initiative and get here sooner, obviously!" Patty yells, before cracking up a bit. She can't keep a straight face while yelling at you.

The two of you step inside and find a nearby booth. As Patty sits down she removes her jacket, revealing a short black top that's fairly low-cut. Not what you'd usually expect from her, but it is Summer. Patty smiles as she sits across from you. "Now, I'm sure you have tons of questions to ask me, because I'm super cool and interesting. So go ahead, Ace. Shoot."

Patty smirks. "What, don't tell you haven't been watching either?"

You shake your head. "I've started to get frustrated with watching wrestling recently because I've been kept from doing it, but I catch what I can. I always try to at least catch whatever segments you or Owen are part of. You're in a tag team now, right?"

Patty nods, as she skims through the menu. "Yeah, they brought up this girl from developmental called Nikki Swan. She's pretty damn good in the ring, and solid on the microphone. We're both Canadian, so they paired her with me, in the hopes that I could help pull a bit more charisma out of her."

"Well, if anyone's suited for the job..." you mutter.

"Yeah, and having someone to fall back on is definitely doing my character wonders," Patty laughs. "We're actually getting over with the crowd! Not that my shtick wasn't over before, but now it's becoming too much for creative to ignore. They're bound to stick a title on us eventually. It'll be nice to finally win one after competing there for almost four years. Seriously, I come in, the amazingly talented individual that I am, make a big impression by feuding with Kevin freakin' Omega who, to his credit, made me look like a million bucks. Four years later, I don't even have a US title run to my name. It's an injustice I tell you! But now's the time, Perez and Swan, the Canadian Rockets are going to take those tag titles soon! It's a matter of a couple months!"

As the waitress comes over and you make your orders, you decide to ask Patty. "So, what's it like having someone to work with on a regular basis like that? I know you didn't really have many friends in the locker room. What's this Nikki Swan like backstage?"

"She's actually pretty cool!" Patty states. "I was expecting her to be a pain in the ass, but she's pretty funny and good-natured. Hard to hate her. You better watch out Ace, cause she'll soon be in the running for the prestigious best friend position!"

"Nice try, she'll never take my title!" He boast.

Patty laughs as your plate of food arrives and you begin to tuck in. "Seriously though Ace, I think you and her would get along like a house on fire. Just don't do that thing you do, where you drag her into some complicated relationship drama."

You sigh. "Come on, Patty. I've been on my best behaviour lately."

"I'm just breaking your balls," Patty smirks. "Besides, it's not like my love life is any better."
>>
"Still hung up on Omega?" you asks.

Patty shrugs. "I'm trying to move on, you know? Get back out there? God, I'm 25 years old, I'm cute as a button, and somehow my dating record consists of putting up with the biggest douchebag on the planet in the form of Kassius Orwin, and spending years pining after a self-destructive mess of a man 18 years my senior because I had a major crush on him as a child. Really not great."

"Then start getting back out there," you state in a matter of fact tone.

"If only it were that simple," Patty laughs. "For one there's the whole wrestler thing. I'm on the road all the time, so my only option for romance is one of my co-workers, really. And secondly... eh, I just don't feel right coming on to guys. I'm not used to the whole dating thing, and I don't really have the confidence for it."

The conversation trails off briefly as the two of you eat. Patty then speaks up again. "Hey Ace, would you date me?"

You almost choke on your food. "What?" you gasp.

"Calm down, I wasn't asking you to date me," Patty clarifies with a smirk. "That would be... incredibly weird. This is solely a self-esteem thing. Be honest! If you didn't know me... would you date me?"

>Yeah, I would.
>Nah. You're not my type Patty... no offence.

>Yeah, I would.

Patty gives another smile, this one different from all the others. Every other smile you've seen from her before has been the smile of a girl having fun, having a laugh. This one... you think you may have just warmed her heart a little. "Thanks Robin..." she mutters.

You let out a laugh. Patty looks at you and raises and eyebrow. "I thanked you. I didn't tell you a knock-knock joke."

You shake your head and smirk. "You just called me Robin... It's just funny, because the first time we met, you swore you'd never call me by that name. And you stuck by that until now."

"Okay, note to self; never call you by your real name again," Patty rolls her eyes. "Otherwise you'll get all weird and giddy about it."

The two of you share a brief laugh, before you stand up to pay for your food. "Just so you know..." Patty mutters. "If I didn't know you... like, if I didn't know Omega, and you weren't his student, and you were just some guy I met with none of this outside context... I'd probably date you too. For a while at least. Two weeks, tops."

"Thanks Patty, I'm sure that's a lot of praise coming from you."

"Yeah, well... what can I say? I'm a naturally nice and complimentary person!" Patty shrugs.

You step out of the dinner as Patty hails a cab to the airport. As she does, she turns around to face you. "I'm gonna do it," she nods. "I'm gonna put myself out there, in the line of fire. I'm going to get over my weird unhealthy obsession with my childhood crush, and I'm gonna find someone new. I don't know, maybe Owen Barnes?"

"Really?" you ask.

"What? He's kinda hot," Patty replies. "I was just throwing a name out there."
>>
The cab honks it's horn, not willing to wait that long for Patty. She sighs as she looks up at you. "Well, I guess I'm off then. Let's hope it isn't another three freakin' months before we get to do this again."

The two of you hug, and Patty gives you a quick peck on the cheek. "See you around, pal. I hope this Total Impact shit isn't a total bust. That would really suck."

"See you around Patty," you reply. "I hope you have those tag titles the next time I see you."

With that, Patty hops into the back of the cab and drives off. Still tired as all hell, you decide to head back to your apartment to take a quick nap.

You wake up in the early afternoon, about an hour before your planned meeting with Proxy in her office. You hop into your car and drive as quickly as you can to the office building. From what you've learned of her so far, Proxy is insane when it comes to being punctual. She tends not to wait for you if you're even a few seconds late. Proxy office in on the 30th floor, so you hop into the elevator. Joining you in the lift is a redhead girl with headphones and a dark blue top. As you hit the button and the doors close, she pulls the headphones off and taps you on the shoulder.

You turn around, and as she speaks, you notice a slight hint of a Scottish accent. "You're a wrestler, right?"

"Oof, busted." The girl laughs as she extends a hand. "Yeah, I'm a wrestler too. The names Jess."

"Jess, huh?" you ask, accepting the handshake. "Something tells me that's not your ring name."

"Who's says it's not?" She smirks. "Maybe I like it short and sweet! You know, now that you mention it, I think I should change it to just J. That's got a much catchier ring to it, don'tcha think?"

You give a small chuckles as Jess continues. "My ring name's Jessica Storm, actually. And you're... Diamond Danny..."

You shake your head. "The Ace."

Jess lets out an embarrassed snort. "Well, I tried. I saw your face and name along with all the other TWA guys on a form in Proxy office a while ago. I thought I could memorise them all and look like a super whiz when I met you. Turned out well, didn't it?"

"Eh, could have been worse," you shrug. "You could have confused me with Princess Cross."

Jess lets out a loud wheezy laugh that end in a snort. It was surprising to hear from her, not to mention unpleasant. Jess covers her mouth after the snort, turning a shade of ref to match her hair.

Damn, this elevator is slow. "So, any idea what this meeting is about?"

Jess shrugs. "I'm guessing she's got a busy schedule ahead of her, so she's gonna fire both of us at once."

"You really think she's going to fire us?" you ask.

"Call me a pessimist," Jess shrugs. "But Maximum Combat Wrestling, my little indie fed was bought out by these guys about three months ago, and they've had nothing for me since. The writing's on the wall."

"Maximum Combat Wrestling?" you smirk. "What a name."

"Is it any worse than Total Wrestling Alliance?" Jess fires back.

"Eh, good point."

The elevator doors open as the two of you step into Proxy's office, where she is waiting in her black swivel chair in her usual black suit. She and the chair are the only dark things in the entire office. Everything else is silvery and white. The walls, her computer, her desk, her phone, it's almost blinding. "There you are," Proxy states.

One of these days, she might show a little enthusiasm to see you.

"Yeah, you called us to meet you here?" you ask.

Proxt nods and stands from her chair. "Of course. Do not think I have been unaware of how frustrated you have been. You have been waiting for months on end-"

"Ninety-six days to be exact," Jess interjects. Huh, she's been counting it like that, too.

"For ninety-six days," Proxy clarifies, "You have been waiting, itching to return to the ring. Now, you and you co-workers will be receiving that opportunity..."

"Fantastic!" You exclaim, "When do I-"

"In our new reality show," Proxy finishes.

You pause. "E-excuse me?"

"Make an Impact, the new reality show from Total Impact Wrestling." Proxy states in her usual robotic tone, as if she's reciting the business pitch for the project. Hell, she likely is. "It will revolve around 12 contestants, split into two teams. Six from the former Maximum Combat Wresting and six from the former Total Wrestling Alliance. Both teams will compete in wrestling related skill challenges, and every week a contestant from the losing team will be eliminated from the contest. The final four contestants will enter a free-for-all challenge where there can only be one winner. Each contestant has an opportunity to be signed to a full-time contract, but only the absolute winner will be awarded a quarter million dollar contract. Who can prove that they are the most capable? Who will come out on top? Who will Make an Impact?"

You're speechless. You can only stare slack-jawed in horror at Proxy. You can't even begin to process a normal way to react to this news.

Fortunately, Jess can.
