Almost 11 years have passed since your journey into the forest, you barely survived an encounter with wolves.
Many things have changed, you have become The Overlord, you have access to magic that dominates the minds over others and you finally got a g̶i̶r̶l̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶ mistress
Last we left off you taking your old master's advice and reading a damn book.

Character Sheet: http://pastebin.com/6TfyJwgg

Majority vote wins, Minimum 3 votes, No rigid time limit for votes. In case of ties, votes will be given an opportunity to change votes and new votes will be accepted. If a tie remain, choice will be decided by a die roll. Dice rolls will be d10s and d20s. There is a 10 minute time limit for rolling. Crit Success trumps Crit Fail which trumps non-crit Success and Fail. And remember evil always finds a way.

>Black Baron and The First Overlord
Interested in the origins of your "profession" you pick the tomes about The Black Baron and The First Overlord. The Black Baron was mad noble turned ruthless tyrant after discovering how to summon and control hellspawn, Minions, and for creating The Tower Heart. He ruled over a countryside for many decades before heroes invaded his keep and killed him in combat. The world knew peace for many decades before his grand nephew discovered his armor and, more importantly, his gauntlet, the one you wear at this very moment actually. Some of the great achievements of The First were enslaving his own brother and sister, killing The Great Wolf Queen and actually being the instigating force of Elves and Dwarves bitter feud that actually rages to this day. Not much is known about his death but many believe that his wife killed him by pushing him off of his castle

Rolled 17 + 1 (1d20 + 1)

>Second through Fifth
Continuing your research in chronological order will probably be the easiest method to do this. The Second through Fifth achievements while important just seem lackluster, creating the dark tower, spell stones, and catalysts. These would all be great if it weren't for a couple of things. The Dark Tower is rubble with a magical wasteland around it, spell stones only provide access to spells you don't have so only the shield spells now, and catalysts upgrade spells but don't actually make you better at casting them. Also they all had the habit of dying by spell failure during a fight, not really a problem for you. Average length any were in power was 6 years. Useless.

Overreliance on magic is the lesson to learn here. We must not neglect our physical capabilities.
Though we certainly should completely master magic in the future.

>Hindsight
Wanting to know more about the originator of the Tower Heart and Master's Gauntlet you try digging more into the archives but you can't find anything about how they were created. If only you could just go there and talk to the man who started it all, created it all maybe you could control it better use it more efficiently. Even being a fly on the wall could possibly be extremely valuable... You can look into the future maybe you can look into the past. The archives fades to nothing... a dark forge

I think gnarl been playing the puppet master for 8 overlords.
>>
>>316101
Likewise. Even in the games it seems like it, to me. He must be using overlords to advance his own agenda over vast amounts of time - though that agenda might not necessarily go against our own. He does genuinely seem to want evil to persist and dominate the world, and he DOES greatly help the overlords rise to power in the first place.
>>
>Demand Answers
"Gnarl you've been keeping secrets from me" He continues dusting off books and checking their contents. "It is only a secret because you didn't ask, Sire. If I told you everything I knew you'd be dead from age before I was even a quarter of the way done. I am your advisor, it is only reasonable to tell you things that immediately concern the state of the minions, the underspire, and your controlled areas. I can give you more input if that is what you'd like?
>>
>>316153
More input would be good, yes.
Did the baron use a god's eye, or a great wyrm's? What else did the ritual involve? Is there anything we can do to attune ourselves further to the tower heart - and is it possible to directly upgrade the heart itself at all?

Beyond that, though, his personal input during our research of the next set of overlords would probably be helpful. Records can only tell you so much - a firsthand account is far more valuable in certain cases.
>>
>More Input
"As you wish, Sire. It was the eye of a great wyrm, the ritual requires charging the Tower Heart with magic until it reaches critical and causes a self sustained reaction making more mana, the only way to attune yourself more closely and make it more power is being evil."

>Sixth through Eighth (Game Spoilers for those care)
"Now here is a tale that interesting. The Sixth controlled a vast area for a great while before a band of 8 heroes. During their confrontation at the dark tower one of the heroes tackled him off of it, however both survived the fall. When the wizard came to inspect the bodies the dying sixth possessed him and masqueraded about waiting for his energy to recover. In the meantime the former hero having lost all memories of himself and the events that happened became The Seventh. The Seventh collected all the stolen parts of the tower, reclaimed the areas once controlled and gained great power, The Sixth returned to claim his throne. The ensuing battle caused a rift between the minions those who served the old and those who served the new. The Seventh won the battle but unknown to him The Sixth transferred himself into the body of the jester. While The Seventh was claiming the Abysses for himself, The Sixth locked him inside The Infernal Abyss. The Eighth was the child of The Seventh and His Mistress. Having a childhood similar to your own he conquered The Empire and their lands leaving destruction in his wake. He controlled more area, people, magic and minions than any Overlord before him. His death was caused by a group known as Shining Justice"

How about this for an idea? Everytime the overlord reaches his hight of power he is cast down by a band of heroes or some other calamity. How about we make the Overlord title Hereditary, hand it down to our strongest child when we get too old or are dying. That way the Overlords can continue to rule over all the land without having to reset every few generations or so.

>Overlord Research
The 4 failed candidates, who were they? Netherghuls, resurrected for their great potential for evil. Inferna, Malady, Hakon, and Cryos. Inferna, specializing in close combat and fire, originally died from rock giants. Malady, specializing in necromancy and long range, originally killed by the shining force. Hakon, dwarf rogue, dual wielded axes, originally killed by Cryos. Cryos, a dark elf ice mage, originally killed by Hakon. Afterwards they defeated The Shining Force and disappeared. Probably returned to the earth but nothing actually states what happened to them.

My family generations ago buried treasure in the ruborian desert worth a king's ransom but I do not have the means or funds to an expedition to retrieve it. If you could be most generous my lord I would give you a percentage of the fortune. I would need 5000 gold to make the expedition, but the more gold the higher the chance we find it." The treasury is low maybe this could be a way to bolster it, but you'd have to find more gold to even fund it. "The ruborian desert is known for harboring bandits and thieves, sire. >Train minions
Alright let's train up your browns because last time they got in a fight a rabbit killed a good number of your horde. The concept of defense is not completely foreign to your minion it is the execution that proves to be deadly. Minions grab the closest thing to them to act as a shield, more often than not another minion. Actual defensive training is almost a complete failure because they simply don't like shields, if it doesn't have a pointy end it's useless to them. Maybe discipline is the way to go? But trying to establish a lieutenant amongst them is chaos, their "hierarchy" system keeps getting in the way. The system goes as follows bottom to top; jester, dead, hatless, wearing a hat, wearing a cooler hat, wearing an even cooler hat, Mistress, Gnarl, and, of course, You. The simple solution would be give a cool hat to who you want as a lieutenant but pride is amongst the minions and one must "earn" their hat. Earning meaning the first one to pick it up from a slain foe, and a minion will only drop his hat for a cooler hat. Giving up on that for now, possibly ever, you teach them basic offense strategy other than use the pointy end. Some of the lessons stick and they learn, mostly, not to stab themselves or their brothers.

Everfire.
Cooling wind.
His agony will be drawn out as he regenerates from flames that will not quell for as long as he lives, which we can ensure is far longer than one should reasonably live when covered in fire.
His screams will be a song that sings of our malice, and respect through fear shall be earned - they will know what happens to those who cross us.
Challenge anyone else who wishes for the most painful death imaginable.

The dwarf who insulted you bursts into flames and begins screaming and runs away from the gate. You can hear the village go into chaos, no matter how much water the dwarf is covered in he continues to burn and scream and run. The fire won't spread from him you made sure of that, can't be burning down your property... yet. Half an hour later and he is still screaming and begging for it to end, people are understanding the fire is magical in nature but are still confused as to why he hasn't died yet. "Let in and I will end his suffering, leave me out and you will all suffer the same fate" The gates are open within the minute and the dwarf brought before you writhing in pain. His eyes are pleading with you to undo the magic, and you do undo the cause of his suffering... the healing magic. Moments later the dwarf is ash and the village his finally silent. Now is a perfect time to make your demands.

Good enough for me...
Potential training option: Pain threshold, endurance, and natural defenses. By casting everflame and cooling wind on either ourself or a restrained minion, we can burn our/their skin away while regenerating it back to be stronger and tougher. The scarring will no doubt be horrible, but skin as tough as boiled leather will do wonders for defenses, in addition to the fire-resistant properties it should eventually have from regrowing to be better at what harmed it.

Probably best to test that training on a minion first. He's gonna be a little gray, maybe black, from all the ashes...but it should be fine.

You clench your fists and unleash a roar, adding a brief, but effictive, Fire effect to your eyes. The dwarf steps back, and you lunge forward ramming your knee into his jaw. The dwarf takes the hit and tries punching you in the side but hits your leg instead. Grabbing his leg you pull him to the ground and drive your steel boot into his side over and over. He tries grabbing your ankle but you crush his hand beneath your heel. His nose becomes flat and reforms after each blow to his face. The bones crack when broken and they crack when reformed. The dwarf gave up struggling long ago but you make sure to drive the point in. No one stops you, clearly you are their superior. This village, Canrun, is yours now. 300 more people are under your control. Dwarves are excellent smiths and miners, they have almost no affinity for magic.

>>
>Inconvenience their lives
Distrust and misfortune will be your strategy, you send your pickpockets off to Marlow under the guise as orphans caused by your cruelty. The town quickly accepts them, they are children after all. It is about a week later people start noticing their coin purses are a lot lighter then they should be and the rogue seems to be throwing around a lot of coin at the tavern. Maybe they are just overly suspicious, maybe there is a thief. It's nice that the paladins love to play with the children but they seem to spend too much alone time with the little girls. Tensions flare when some of the rogue's things go missing and she demands they be brought forth or she'd take the money to compensate for her losses. The paladins manage to get the situation under control but many people are openly wondering why they are harboring these "heroes" at least the "evil" overlord doesn't claim have lost something and demand compensation and for many places it looks like he's only made their lives better by making sure slackers don't get rewarded. The town is currently divided on what's right and wrong.

Curiosity about the other fires gets the best of you and you head north of Ran'tyr. Most of the burned areas already have some of their plantlife returning, with Fireweed being the most prominent. The oldest sites though it looks like someone has been harvesting it in rather large quantities. Someone is making grow fields for Fireweed then harvesting it later. It doesn't have any really unique properties so why would anyone want it? maybe you should track them down?

>Track Them Down
You will track down whomever is burning your forest, you can't let them go unpunished. Heading to the most recent burn sites where the fireweed is just starting to come back yet, you set ice traps down. The easiest method is just to wait for them so you have a few minions wait around to let you know when a trap gets tripped. A week is all you have to wait before your trap goes off, "MASTAH MASTAH GOTS A HOOMAN" A human burning the forest? Were they trying to piss off the elves? Sending your minions to collect them the person is thrown before you, a long black haired, blue eyed girl. You weren't sure what you were expecting but not a girl. "Why were you burning my forest?" "It's my forest" "It is my forest, and if you were stupid you'd think it was the elves' forest an- "It is the elves' forest, my forest" She flips her hair to reveal a slightly pointed ear. Huh, a blacked haired elf this is... interesting. "Why are you collecting fireweed?" "Concentrated fireweed can drive back demons... like you" You have most of your answers. Ask why she has black hair, it's unusual for elves.

Take her prisoner when we finish questioning.

>More Questions
"I am far worse than any demon, no amount of Fire weed will drive me away. Now who are you?" "I am Roxxanne and I -" "That is a very human name. You are a half-breed aren't you?" Her face turns into a scowl "I am an elf... I just happen to have a human father." "Well you are my prisoner now"

>Everfire on the minions
It's like a spa day for the reds... the browns not so much. You lose 2 browns and make some crispy during the experiment. The reds do learn to use Everfire so it's not a total fail. Gnarl reminds you that you can convert 3 brown life force to red life force.

Alright let's be "nice" about this. "Tell me where the fucking furs and the gold are before you regret your existence more than you already do" She just begins drawing a map in the dirt of her cell.

Now let's see if you can intimidate yourself an ally. "Your existence is a fluke. A mistake. I should do the elf village a favor and end your life." I let you go you die. I invite an elder here you will die. You escape and try to go to the human village you die. You need me." Some time later you are sitting on your throne contemplating this whole series of events. Whom is truly at fault? Was it Roxxanne trying to find a place in either culture? No. It was that presumptuous elf leader... "Sire, the people of Ran'tyr have waiting long enough we wish for the half breed to be released to our custody. It is disre-" "Fine, she's yours as long as you tell me what your punishment will be and I'll deem it suitable." "Her human heritage should have made it clear from the beginning, Death. She is unable to carry her own weight and would have to rely on it for survival, better she die than waste resources. She is incapable of respecting the forest and our ways. No amount of gold will cleanse her of what she is, an abomination to the Mother Goddess herself." Clap is all you can do, his face calm but you know it's boiling with anger underneath. "Bravo, that almost sounded evil. It was great there were just two problems with it. The first you really didn't say what you make her do during the between her coming to your gates and her death. Like you would have made her get on her knees and beg for her life while you cut off her ears and defiled her in other ways." He remains silent, at least until an arrow pierces his knee. Now he's screaming "The second problem was I was asking for your punishment not hers. Roxxanne why don't you take him somewhere and show him what would be suitable. Roxxanne drags him by his leg to a different part of the underspire and doesn't return for a few hours. Her whole body his drenched in blood and she's shaking. Now what do with her? You should make her...

>An Enforcer, she definitely knows how to rough up people

>A Lieutenant, maybe giving her some minions wouldn't be a terrible idea

>A Mistress, maybe you should increase the number of "assets" you have

You might actually feel some sort of understanding toward Roxxanne, an exile with a desire to get back at those who wronged them. Having her close is the only good idea, and the closer the better. "Gnarl, Have her washed and prepare a room, the underspire has a new mistress" Roxxanne gives you gold she has saved up over the years. She was pretty close to getting the needed funds, 20k has been added to the treasury. Her only request is that you let her ensure people's cooperation.

I'm going to throw this idea out there i say we should talk to Lysandra about making a thieves guild she is good at stealing and we already have a few thieves.
>>
>Fully Fund Arena
Just over 3k and the arena is fully funded. Now you just have to wait for it to be finish being built. Gnarl puts it's completion right in line with being overlord for 2 years.

>Meeting of the Mistresses
Maybe this wasn't a good idea... In the 4 days they have seen each other, maybe 1 interaction has ended "peacefully". Who is the better mistress is the normal topic, though it drifts to whether they should be active or passive with assisting you and how to expand the domain, through strength or subterfuge. You could step in and quash all arguements or just let them argue it out till the end of time.

>>Step in, and (Write in)
Step in and tell them and tell them that they can prove who the better mistress is, by setting up a rogues guild of some kind - they're both decent thieves, they can train other servants and minions to be stealthy, and whoever is the better trainer is named head mistress.

The trainees can become our spies, thieves, and assassins, this will be especially good when the greens back, I recall they could turn invisible in the games.

>23, Critical Success
Lysandra forms a thief's guild that becomes extremely popular with the surrounding highwaymen and bandits but more importantly profitable. Any trader that isn't your gets shaken down for money and if they can't pay the "fee" they lose some product whatever it may be. New children learn to pickpocket and gather information for you too. The whole system gets set down rather quickly but firmly. Lysandra couldn't be happier with her results

>23, Critical Success
Roxxanne takes a two pronged approach the the task. First, she manages to actually teach the minions rudimentary battle tactics and formations opposed to your failed plans that would have required a lieutenant minion. The browns now surround the reds to protect their more vulnerable brethren while they throw their fire. Second, she recognizes the need for more minions and makes a basic farm to raise and slaughter animals for food and life force.

You really can't decide who did a better job on this one. More Minions means more carnage. More Money means better things.
>>
>Dominate with Roxxanne
Going back to Ran'tyr with Roxxanne is great for her, terrible for the village. After seeing you dominate the mind of a guardsman she immediately picks up the spell. You attempt to limit her lust for revenge to the unmotivated and disrespectful, but this still results in a lot of dominated maimed elves. She prefers to cut the ears into a rounded shape before crushing their minds rather than being a little more controlled about it. Despite the cruelty she exhibits and the blood on her hands and face, the smile on her face is pure. Evil suits her better than she could have known. You return to the underspire, Roxxanne with a few mind slaves in tow.

"Sire, our reports show the plains village completely do not trust the heroes staying with them now may be would be the best opportunity to crush them."

>Train Air Magic
It has been a while since you tried learning new magic so you take a crack at it. The only air spell you have right now makes you swing your weapon faster, so maybe the same concept applies to your body. Using the spell on your feet does help you move faster when you can get moving but it feels like you are slipping on ice constantly. Roxxanne notices your attempts at walking and quickly points out it will not work, if you have nothing under your feet you will gain no traction. This gives you an idea, instead of casting it on your feet why not on your opponents. If they can't move near you to use melee you can focus on long range foes.

>Spell: Air Trip has been learned. Causes a cushion of air to form under your foe's feet make movement extremely difficult

>Invest (10000/5000)
With the expedition leaving next month and it going into areas outside your domain, you reconsider only giving it the minimum funding. Doubling your investment makes you feel more secure about having a return worthwhile. The expedition leaves at the end of the month so this was your last chance to give additional funds.

>Crush the heroes
The plains heroes have existed in this plane of existence too long now, let's change that. If you call them out on a fight now the town they are residing in will not assist them, maybe they should have worked on public relations. You are at the gates. "Little pigs little pigs let me in" The Paladins are at the gates, behind their visors you feel their hate towards you and your predecessors. You three all the same desire, to see blood on ground and walk away the victor.

First thing to do? Have your reds cast everfire on the paladins. While they do that, we lay down poison traps directly on their positions - this two-pronged damage-over-time approach will severely reduce their combat capability, because I'd imagine it's hard to focus on fighting when you're wanting to puke your guts out AND in agony from being set on fire. From there, we should lay down direct Lightning traps on them to paralyze the fuck out of them and lock their movements up - so that in case they were somehow resistant to fire and poison, they still can't get to you. While they're locked up, lightning spears should do some good damage.
