You are Subject 108, a.k.a. Whirlpool. You are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies from a reclusive civilization that has mastered spatial distortion. You tend to suffer occasional lapses in memory, emotion and judgement from shifting hormonal imbalances due to a congenital anomaly. You have been sent to the feral planet known as Cymbio IV for a simple task: fetching water, but you are sidetracked by an adventure of your own making.

You arrived at Resorcinol, feigning a limp to avoid suspicion. You reach your assigned objective, the Medical District, and confront Aspirin, the district's head. Eventually a mutual truce was agreed and you make your way down to the Red Light District, as you were informed that Nicotine was looking for you. Meanwhile, Mu Cephei and Canopus unsuccessfully tried to coax her into revealing information, leaving them to wait for you to arrive. All the district head wanted was to converse with you, apparently. But revelations get heavy as she claimed that she is your sister according to a document her hand.

You agree to listen to her next statements while making a mental note to be vigilant of any suspicious change in personal disposition.

>"I betcha wonderin' why I know your real name huh? Well, this paper right here says so, along with other information."

You're confused, curious yet shocked. You ask why that paper should know so much about me.

>"'Cuz this sheet's holding your -real- story...and mine."

You tell her to get to the point.

>"You ever see that we have the same-enough hairstyle? What I'm sayin' is that you're my sister."

Canopus bursts out laughing, what's her problem? You assume she read a funny passage in that book of hers but apparently she finds this whole revelation incredibly trite and silly. Sure, you are somewhat skeptical about the district head's claim but that laughter is incredibly rude. Mu Cephei smacks the bibliophile while the rest of you glares at her. She quiets down, hiding half her face behind her book.

>"Thanks for piping down that stuck-up ditz over there. Anyway, I know that's a lot to take in, you might not even believe me, but you're welcome to jaunt over to my side so I can show you more. I just want to make up for some lost family time, nuthin' wrong with that."

>Look over the files she has

You accept Nicotine's offer and take off your hat. The two of you squat on the floor and peer into the folder containing visibly-old files. From what you can gather from the first glance, there seems to be a list of profiles and one of which might be yours. Your companions couldn't help but huddle over your shoulders, but she doesn't mind the spectators.

>"The past, how much do you remember? I bet your earliest memories are shot, huh? That's cool, I think I'm the only one here who knows enough. Gather 'round, Nico...tine's got a story to share."

Before she continues, you ask if she has a real name. She says that she would rather let the papers answer for her.

>"Okay, so back in the day, 'designer babies' were the latest trend with the advent of gene modding. It was also pretty heated because of ethics but for the most part the average Joes were pretty chill with it. Before you ask, that's a yes but our situation is a whole lot more stickier than that. From what I know, there was this -really- grody company who planned to cater to the weird ones. After a long time at R&D, they managed to 'birth' a handful of initial prototypes. Obviously, we're part of that handful. Why else do we have these 'gear sticks'? Supposedly we can do a lot of weird metabolic shit just because, but I'll save that for the bedroom. Anyway, all of the prototypes were 'born' as young girls already because no one wanted to deal with weird babies. We each had individual problems but the eggheads thought they were part of the charm. The company didn't get that far though, someone might've leaked their little project and the whole project was shut down. The prototypes had their memories wiped and scattered all over...except for me. I just ran away, nothing else."

Nicotine hands you the folder and lets you browse the individual profiles yourself.

>"I only gathered five peeps though, sorry about that. There should be more but these were all I can get."

You ask Nicotine if she's okay with leaving you be, mentioning that you're trying to help out your friends. You explain the plight of Errai's people. The 'tribals' that the establishment normally opposes are actually the descendants from exiled scientists from long ago. Your mission is to simply set things right or at least make their lives more comfortable. Your companions vouch for you, backing up your claim.

>"Sure, I guess I can let you go scot-free. It's my thanks for actually listening to me. I'd actually help you out but I can't actively go against my workplace. Say, if you're interested in a meal, I'd be happy to give it for free."

Nicotine asks you to clarify when you mentioned 'mush'. You elaborate what the exiles eat there and add in further information about their lifestyles. She seems horrified at their situation.

You agree with her, then ask about the other district heads and mention that you already met Aspirin. She pauses for a bit to recall tidbits before answering.

Who knows how that works, maybe she handles the hotel room service. Besides, according to Aspirin, it's Saccharin who's the head of the Consumer District and you have no idea who she is.

It's a tough deliberation but you decide to let Errai have the ration bar. You promise that she'll get to eat later. Besides, she doesn't seem to mind since variations on "alien guacamole" is probably the only thing she has ever eaten.

You move on towards the Residential District with Nicotine leading the way. The group passes through the Consumer District where you encounter Betelgeuse and Sirius. They say that they can't find the district head at all.

>"Pray tell, art thou the head of the Consumer District?"

>"Yup! That's totally me! Hi Nicotine!"

Well that is certainly convenient. Nicotine waves back while Betelgeuse can't believe her eyes at first.

As the eight of you make your way through the Consumer District, Saccharin points out the various shops that had signs of activity. There's one for video games, clothes, household supplies and furniture. There's also a scattered handful of active restaurants, among which is a coffee shop that—unsurprisingly—has a steady stream of patrons.

Eventually you reach the Residential District after passing through a somewhat-broad "transition area" bordering the two districts. Nicotine points out that the entire district is essentially one colossal hotel, with each "room" being its own household. Predictably, this is the one with the most civilian population, according to her.

At the spacious lobby, you see an entrance to some kind of huge dining area and ask Nicotine for a quick tour. She says that's there are plenty of residents who aren't interested in eating. Sirius asks if there's a form of indoor transportation, judging from how large Resorcinol is. She says that Propane's working on it. Coincidentally, all that traveling has made your friends hungry and it's close to noon anyway.

Nicotine orders tuna pie for herself while Saccharin orders something sweet and/or sugary, you couldn't really hear her well. After a few more moments she stops grumbling and returns back to her normal self, which is very unsettling now..

It influences the style/mood/method of outcomes, ranging from Red, Blue, Green and Yellow...which I have yet to determine the result.

Nicotine runs a casino, it's probably natural for her to have different gambling tools. You're going to hold on to your dice for now, though.

You ask her and Saccharin for their opinions on Aspirin.

>"Oh, the egghead? Yeah, he's sorta chill. Usually spends his time helping serious patients or resting in his office. He also gave me a cool upgrade to my pheromones, too. Now I can be all Queen Bee and stuff. Guess you could say..."

>"He's an awesome guy! I have superpowers because of him! I can stay young forever and regenerate like a lizard!"

Nicotine leans closer to you.

>"And she makes frequent use of that."

You ask her about the head doctor's powers and express desire at having psionic capabilities yourself.

>"Ah, 'fraid there's nothing we can do 'bout that. I think it's something people are born with, so you can't just -get- it, and people have tried. Besides, isn't the ability to toggle your fertility—in both ways—good enough? Among other things..."

>>309268
You are going to ask them about their relationships with the other district heads when the waitress from earlier shows up with a soup bowl.

>"I'm so sorry for the delay!"

As she approaches the table, she missteps and trips, sending the foodstuffs flying towards your table. You brace for impact as the hot, steamy liquid is on a collision course with your face. From the corner of your vision, something vague blurs for a splitsecond. Your eyelids close as you expect stinging pain yet it never comes. Instead you open your eyes and you see another person show up, holding two bowls expertly then lays them on your table with ease.

>"Chervil, how about you go take a break? I'll handle it from here, you can always try again next time."

There's no need to question as Nicotine introduces you to her anyway.

>"Whirlpool, this is Caffeine—Head of the Residential District. Hey Caff, how's it shakin'?"

>"I'm fine, thank you asking. Whirlpool, was it? I see you're a friend of Nicotine."

Your companions begin partaking the soup with utmost curiosity, Betelgeuse in particular is savoring the aroma of the vegetable soup. Meanwhile Saccharin remains seated, waiting for her sugary sweets. Remembering Nicotine's earlier, you take the initiative to seek Caffeine's neutrality before she whisks herself away for her job.

>"Hm? You want me to leave you alone? Why should I? You seem like good people."

Nicotine explains that you are a recent arrival from space and has managed to befriend the tribals. She adds that they are actually distant descendants of a long-extinct scientist colony, whose home and technologies have been wrongfully taken by this establishment's first staff members. Lastly, she tells her that the reason why we're asking for her neutrality is that we're heading to the management district and it would be impossible to progress if she decides to stop us.

>"Oh dear that sounds very tragic. Why don't I just help you outright? It's not like you're out to hurt innocent people or something. I can tell my entire staff to continue working in my stead so I can come along."

Mu Cephei offhandedly claims that Nicotine finds her very beautiful.

>"H-Hey now, what my colleague is into is her business alone. You shouldn't make fun of people's sexuality like that."

You know, a lot of these powers are...ill fitting? Not all, but some. For instance, saccharine, being hyperactive, should be the speedster with time manipulation. The law enforcer should have empathy to root out lies and criminal thoughts. Aspirin should have the super regeneration maybe, for blood transfusions or something?

The firefighter having freezing and the pheremone ability of nicotine do make plenty of sense, though.

I wonder what kind of monstrous powers the management head has. Possibly none, since he's apparently too paranoid to meet with other heads. Doubt he's willing to trust anyone enough to let them work on him.

You take some salad on your plate, with the dressing conveniently applied already. You fork one of the leaves into your mouth and marvel at how good it tastes compared to Errai's paste...no offense.

Caffeine returns holding a plate of gourmet sweets.

>"Here's our mystery dessert platter, I hope you enjoy it."

Saccharin gives you a thumbs up for good taste. Huh, you expected something else.

>>312057
She's too entranced in eating at her own pace. Can't blame her, this is probably the equivalent of downing an entire bottle of ambrosia.
For a second there, I thought you meant Mouth-to-Mouth feeding

>>312077
Thank you so much, anon! Fanart grants me strength!

>>311758
I agree with the thematic mismatch, but I still like the utility reasons. Caffeine needs to be almost everywhere at once and Aspirin needs to make accurate diagnoses. Admittedly, Sacc's power was for the surprise had we fought her physically. Let's just say the management head isn't very wise.

Whirlpool's Spatial Distortion sorta already counts, but being at the POOR competency...

One of the desserts calls out to whirlpool in particular. The...
1 - cylinder
2 - pyramid
3 - sphere
Is particularly enticing, and we must try it. Offer the other two to errai and your long lost sister.

Observe them? Are you expecting them to come to life, anon?
They are simply desserts, to be eaten for pleasure. The sweet, kindly caffeine would not bring us anything bad.

Caffeine places the platter in front of your plate. You find the pyramid-shaped dessert deliciously-alluring so you carefully pick it up with your utensils and place it on top of your place. Errai is still engrossed on her vegetable soup while Nicotine's munching on some tuna pie. You promise yourself that you'll save the other two dessert items for them.

>>312366
It smells sweet alright, with a mild tinge of coolness. You initially assume that it would taste like chocolate but you can't sniff the cocoa powder in there. Maybe it's just sugar or something.

I don't know what your game is

>>312455

>>

Now give it a little lick. If it's good, then proceed to consume it in a sexual manner while making direct contact with Errai. If it's bad, still do it while hiding the fact that it disgusts you.
>>
>>312569
Bite into it.
Hope it isn't a hard candy.

Your fork sinks easily into the dessert. You touch it with the tip of your tongue as you slowly ease into licking it like ice cream. Errai is still too invested in her food to bother but that's fine, you're still tasting this unfamiliar sugar triangle.

>>312616
You sink your teeth into the sweet. The texture reminds you of chocolate even though it tastes nothing like it. It's sweet, almost like vanilla yet inexplicably also tastes...futuristic. There's this water-like sensation as you slosh it around your mouth. You open up and swallow it whole. There's some sort of cold, weird-tasting liquid that is inside the core. It also has a particular scent...something Nicotine would be very familiar with.

Hmm, this tastes pretty exotic overall. A wonderful attempt at a soft dessert with some kind of drink inside. After savoring it for a few more moments, you turn towards Nicotine to tell her about it but your words spill through your mouth like hot spaghetti. Your consciousness starts to feel hazy and the world progressively becomes more difficult to navigate. Your brain feels like it's swirling in a vortex and your limbs slip through space as if it was coated in grease. You try to stand up from your seat to find medical attention but your legs tangle up, causing you to trip and dislodge your hat. You fall onto the floor and your vision turns dark.

>"HOW WAS I SUPposed to know t̷h̷a̷t̷ ̷s̷h̷e̷ ̷h̷a̷d̷ ̷l̷o̷w̷.̷.̷.̷..!!"

Caffeine's worried voice is the last thing you hear before you become unconscious.

Maybe you'd like a time skip, or control a different character for a while, hmm?

You are now Caffeine, head of the Residential District. A patron has just passed out from sudden intoxication. Despite your attempts at staying calm, deep down you know you messed up. You consider reprimanding the pastry chef but you realize it was you who delivered the dessert to her. You really wish you could have seen this coming. It's difficult to do some damage control like this. Nicotine looks upset with you while her tribal friends are in equal parts shock and worry. Saccharine's just...watching, and it's sorta creepy.

>Maybe you should ring Aspirin's cellphone for some advice?
That would take too much time! Instead you decide to just bring her there yourself but...oof...she's heavy. What is she carrying? Regardless, you need to bring her up to the Medical District ASAP, but how?

Last update for the evening. A bit early, isn't it? Well, with my update rate another one would be at 11pm and I need to wake up even earlier tomorrow.
Next thread once this one hits page 6/7/8, we have plenty of time.

The kitchen carts are often too small, the biggest one -could- carry her but she'll wake up with some nasty neck pains. Bellman carts on the other hand...

>>313326
Mouth-to-mouth seems like a good idea at first but it doesn't work all the time. Plus, you'd end up, like, kissing her and such. She might vomit even which is very disgusting and you'd stain your favorite apron. First Aid does sound like a good idea, but alcohol poisoning is a serious thing.

That shouldn't be a problem, being a district head has its perks. You compress and accelerate your personal flow of time and casually walk towards the main elevator hall. Better save that energy for carrying Whirlpool. There's an idle bellhop with the cart nearby. You resume your normal time flow and ask if you can borrow his cart, mentioning that it's an emergency. Hearing the urgency in your voice, he agrees to lend you the cart, it's staff property anyway. You casually walk back to the dining area while time is slowed like molasses and return to the unconscious patron. Nicotine and one of the tribals have only begun to stand up from their seats.

>>315066
People kept saying that you ought to go to the gym but that takes time! Besides, your physical work already is a form of exercise. You try to pull up the unconscious patron but man, it's tough. You haven't lifted anyone in a long time outside of lost children. Still you manage to do so with Nicotine's help, removing the coat in the process to avoid restricting airways. Now all you have to do is get her to the Medical District. You preemptively send Aspirin a text message requesting some preparations before making your way to the ER.
>>
>>315301
Get one of the tribals (obviously Errai) to help you push the cart to the ER

Then maybe switch perspective to Errai

You recruit one of Whirlpool's tribal companions, specifically the one in the schoolgirl uniform. You have to wonder how did they get such nice clothing, maybe someone bought it for them? Nevertheless, her accompaniment would be useful once the soon-to-be patient wakes up.

--

>Then maybe switch perspective to Errai
You are now Errai, Whirlpool's lover and outdoor scientist. You're deeply worried when you saw her pass out like that. Hopefully it's temporary and the district head promises to make up for this accident.

>>315330
Although you volunteer to help push the cart, Caffeine instructs you to stand on it instead and grip tightly instead.

>"Brace yourself, you might get dizzy from this one."

Before you know it you're at an elevator, with Caffeine waiting impatiently.

>"Please please please please..."

Caffeine looks very panicked and sorry for herself. You place a hand on her shoulder and say that she doesn't have to push herself so hard for others. You add that you and your kin can pull their own weight, and Whirlpool is going to be absolutely fine.

>"Yeah...I sure hope so. It's just..I work so hard to take care of these people."

>>315834
>>315842
>"It's strong wine, some kind of popular alcoholic beverage. You see, the Mystery Dessert Platter is an adult-only dish that is not listed on the menu and its quirks change depending on the whims of the chef. I wasn't expecting your friend to be incredibly lightweight. Maybe I should issue a warning next time."

The bell dings and the elevator doors open. The two of you bring the unconscious Whirlpool inside and Caffeine sets the destination to the Medical District.

Next update in several more hours so take a break/sleep if you're in a different timezone.
