Aaaaand welcome to Euthanasia. A zombie apocalypse RPG where, like most, there is more warmth in death than in life. First thread, lets see how it goes.

You feel numb and terribly hazy. You feel dead, though logic would suggest otherwise. You see nothing before you in the deep black- your eyes must closed. You couldnt care less, however, as you are still struggling for your conciousness.

After a moment of mental "reorientation", you proceed to organizing your thoughts- not that there is much to organize at the moment. You now notice there, under the heavy numbness that suffocates your senses, is an aching pain. It pervades your body. Hurting down to what feels like the very atoms of your cells, from your skin and down to your muscles and bones. It feels...old, however, as you discover a more immediate pain to contrast. You
attempt to detect the source of the pain and zero in on a rough (and painful) communication between some solid other and your bare wrists as well as ankles. You peel your seemingly anchored eyelids to an open. You are greeted by dim light and gifted with a burning sensation in your eyes. The sensation is fuzzy but you consider that it may be a result of severe dehydration. Fortunately, your numbness and scattered mind keeps you from feeling any other signs of dehydration at the moment and, you presume, hunger. Nevertheless, you
will yourself to focus, redirecting them to the task at hand: where are you? In the dim light you note as much and as best as you can. You can glean from the shapes and colorsthat you are currently in what is most likely a stone-walled room. It is of modest size, with nothing in sight. And, in the bare, empty, and very ominously quiet room, you begin to feel and icy cold permeate your body. You can conclude through you numb sense of touch, assisted by your seeing eyes, that you are bound by wrists and ankles to a chair. Well fuck.

And the numb and haziness that had greeted you at your awakening begin to fade.

You know the drill anons. Name and age. Please agree on something if there are multiple submittion. You'll probably get your own character to create in the future, depends how this goes.

As the fog begins to lift, you remember your name. Anjali. A lush brown, now ravaged by your rough state, details your skin. You can recall your Indian heritage, although very scarcely as your mind is still muddled.
You decide to test your bonds, applying some force aganist them. You are met with some pain that your numbness fails to nullify.
What do you do?

You are exhausted, but you continue to search for a means of escape. You flit your eyes across the room, swiveling your head in suit. The room is barren for the most part. There are two foldable metal chairs in once corner. A few stalks of wood in the opposing corner behind you. Neither of which would earn any award for cleanliness. You find a length of folded rope resting on one of the two chairs, and small knife along with it.

You wrists are tied to the chair, your ankles to its legs. You attempt to free an arm. Once again, you are met with pain. The ropes are secured tightly around your wrists. They dig in to your flesh, the surrounding skin a disturbing shade. Evidently, whoever had done this was either a douchebag or incredibly cautious.

What do you do?

Disgruntled, you settle on an ultimatum. The scoot. You lean as forward as you can, bending your upper torso towards your target: the knife. Not large and cruel enough for murder but not small enough to be a surgical instrument. You conclude that your captors must have kept this knife precisely for rope cutting. You shift your weight to the balls of your feet and...well, scoot. With every undignified grunt, you creep closer to the knife. You ignore the pang of pain at every tug at your wrists that accompanies every scooting motion. Soon, after an inglorious moment of many small simultneous thrusts of every inch of your body that you can possibly manage to make, you arrive at the chairs. You stare at the knife, arms tie behind your back. You are even more tired than you started off. But the promise of freedom tastes too sweet.

Now how do you go about this?

So high schooler? Cool. And you dont need to always roll. Ill tell you when you need to. But I guess I needed a roll anway.

>>275962

You muster up the meager strength you have left and throw yourself to the left, in a spinning motion. All the sudden physical activity after your awakening leaves you mildly dizzy but after several more tries, you come to be in roughly the right position. You now have your back to the knife.
You experiment with your fingers are a little off. Possibly due to blood circulation, you think, or the lack thereof. Your curse silently under your breath, at whoever was responsible for tying your wrists. You stretch out your fingers, carefully and slowly moving them around. Your ring finger grazes some part of the knife. You retract your fingers and scoot back a little. This time, you close your fingers around the knife. You maneuver the blade towards your spine and begin to cut through the rope. The knife proves to be dulled. It is almost painstaking, with your exhuastion and the fact that your hands refuse to obey you as if they were drunk. The knife soon meets no resistance and you here the wieght on your wrists drop. At the sound of the rope hitting the floor, you bring your hands from your back and rest them on your thighs. Your wrists look terrible.

What do you do now?

Almost. Refusing to waste any time, you strengthen your grip on the knife and move on to your ankles. Once you are fully liberated from the burden of being connected to an uncomfortable chair, you stand. You feel out your body, wringling your toes and raising you arms. Every send a signal of pain to your brain.

Now that your are free, you are charged with a new concern. Your captors. You were fortunate enough to wake in their absence. The door is on the right.

Neccesity drives you. With the knife in hand, you go to the corner of the room and take a plank of wood slightly longer than the height of the doorknob to the floor. You sluggishly approach the doorknob. The handle is cold. You twist and pull. The door refuses to move. You yank once more and the door flies open with a screech.
Mortifying
You creep out of the cold, stone enclave. The sight practically knocks the wind out of you, and suddenly the room seems like a dream. You almost cannot fathom what your eyes show you.
So...so much carnage. So much ruin. So much desolation.
And so cold.
You step out of the stone opening in its entirety and onto the snow. Your feet crunches on the sleet blanket. You look up and allow snowflakes to pepper your face, soft but inhospitable and...
forbidding. Suddenly, in the midst of this barren wasteland, it dawns on you. How alone you are. The loneliness tears at your heart. In this tortous solitude you need someone more than ever- a friend, a family member to stand by your side. To give you a great deal of much needed reassurance and warmth in this unforgivingly cold wasteland. And just where are your parents or friends? Where are they in this...world? For the first time since you have woken, you thank your sad state. You would not be able to withstand this if your memories were not in a haze. You put the thoughts
aside for now, for fear that you would otherwise run back into the room and seclude yourself in your fright and denial. At least it was smaller and exponentially more easier to comprehend.

Your mind returns to how physically chilling it is. Your clothes...

Give me background information on Anjali. Your history, what you like, dont like, what you do. Think social. Where do you sit in the high school cafeteria?
Are you a punk rocker with a rebel's attitude?
A meek bookwarm who's sanctuary is your room and library?
I would also like a suggestion to what Anjali is wearing. This should agree with the stats and skills you want in the future.

The numbness you had awoken to has been relieved for the most part. And for the first time since your awakening, you process what you are wearing. And for the first time since your awakening, you process
what you are wearing.
Even in a lengthy skirt and long-sleeved tee shirt complemented by a denim jacket, your attire affords little to no protection aganist the piercing cold. You breathe into your hands, with hope that you may recieves some warmth. You breath into your hands in an attempt to warm yourself. To no avail, you decide instead to tuck your hands between your biceps and rib cage, hugging yourself. You tuck your head in and raise your shoulders.
Any memory of your past refuses to heed your call. You do note, however, that your attire suggests you may have been a modest student with traditional values.
Not only have you not seen another soul since your awakening but also your memories evade you. Perfect. You assume this must be the most trying moment in your life. You shake off self-pity and force yourself to look around once more. Still aghast and with no idea where you are. But this is not a sight one would get used to. You survey your surroundings. You see ruined buildings and frozen wreckage. One in the same, you suppose.
It is eerily quiet.
You'll need something to protect you aganist the predatory cold.

>Look around once more, catch anything you may have missed
>Attempt to salvage something from the wreckage
>Write in

Now set your stats.

Strength: How strong you are. How much force you can exert aganist external forces.
Dexterity: How agile, swift, and flexible you are and how quick and dynamically you can move.
Intelligence: How quick-witted and mentally capable you are.
Constitution: How much endurance and stamina you have as well as your response to external forces.
Charisma: How socially-inept, appealing, and persuasive you are.
Wisdom: How mentally perceptive, intuitive, and of good judgement you are.

You will begin with a base stat of 1 in all areas.
Strength: 1
Dexterity: 1
Intelligence: 1
Constitution: 1
Charisma: 1
Wisdom: 1

First, roll a 1d5. The number rolled will be the added to 10. The resulting sum will be the number of stat points allotted at this time
Distribute the points as you please. Create Anjali's stat sheet in the next post.

Add further background information to provide Anjali with traits. "Traits" are incorporate both positive characteristic (e.g. skills) and negative characteristics (e.g. inadequacies). You should have, at most, 2 more positive traits than negative traits. Traits can affect rolls and open you to more options. For instance, the speed of
you running or proficiency with a weapon. It could also involve you knowing how to cook, which I believe you serve to give you some "brownie points" with other survivors or give you a healthier character.

>>281625
Also, time to create your own character. It isnt neccesary though. I'll put you in when I can. Juggling a QM-plot-controlled character and anon-controlled character may turn out to be a little complicated but I'll try. You guys will control your character for the most part. Ill narrate and shit.

I honestly don't give a crap if we are in an apocalypse we need Charisma Dexterity and strength buy that's just my opinion
>>
Oh and Im not going to continue until I get traits and anyone who wants to create their own character and play as a PC. It'll affect what happens next.
>>
>>282089
Not necessarily. Think of it as an old-school RPG. You generally dump everything in two stats and make up for the others with equipment, buffs, consumable items, etc. And if someone decides to create their own PC, you wont be solo.
>>
>>282101
And strength and dexterity are kind of like different limbs. You wont be using strength so much if you decide to use a gun everywhere you go. Vice versa, you wont be using dexterity so much if you're swinging around a mallet. And charisma is kind of personal. Are you going to kill everyone with brute force or deal with them in a more...civilized manner- does that includes befriending them?

Im cool with any revisions you have to make - deadline is the next story-related post.

-------------------------

Strength: 3
Dexterity: 2
Intelligence: 5
Constitution: 1
Charisma: 3
Wisdom: 3

(+)Craftswoman: can craft simple objects, including weapons.
(+)Chill Game: resistant to mental pressure
(+)Dwayne Johnson: stronger immune system

(-)Burn-out: requires more rest.

(1)Manipulation: Can control the actions of others to my pleasure
(2)Parkour: As the name implies

Negative traits: Basically a very "questionable" person. The information is trustable, but the morality is an issue.

You need to warm your body. Maybe I can find something in the wreckage? You walk to a promising pile of...rubble.
A structure, or reminiscent of one, neighbors the room. Facing you is its more collapsed half, with the opposing side still standing. You catch a glimpse of something, at the roof of the structure. You look up as quick as your sluggish mind and aching neck can allow. Nothing. You climb the rubble and enter through the gaping hole...

(+)Parkour: Self-explanatory.
(+)Booker: Has a wide range of knowledge on "important" things, but at a price. Basically Izaya can pull plot-related info out of his ass.
(-)Suspicious Profile: Basically a very "questionable" person. The information is trustable, but the morality is an issue. Consistent -1 to charisma.

You stalk into the structure. The outside is almost unrecognizable, significantly unrelatable to anything you know about common architecture. The inside however, is littered with debris-strewn furniture and refurbishment, as is the floor. Signs of life...or past life. Still, almost everything in sight can be described as "wreckage". You rummage through fallen and splintered boards. You probe through long-abandoned furniture. You find nothing that could serve as effective insulators, or anything for that matter. You shuffle through cabinets and what would seem to be a refrigerator. Initially in need of some thorough restocking, anything else you come across is...unsuitable for consumption. You do, however, find a bottle of water. You immediately begin chugging. Not enough but you cant be picky. You notice an exit (and entrance) that you presume leads deeper into the disconfigured construct.

note: "the room" is where we started.

You decide that you should make camp. Better here than out there in the cold and frost. You put down and plank of wood and knife you had lugged from the room for the time being. Set to your task, you drag whatever pieces of debris you can and pile them up at the gaping entrance of the collapse. The protection is meager, but it serves better than nothing. By the time you are done, the already dim-lighted sky turns dimmer. The day seems to be approaching its end.
You catch movement beyond your makeshift wall, in the distance. You see three, what you assume is people, approach the room. Now that you are out, you recognize its resemblance to a warehouse. You ponder the thought for a quick moment then refocus on the approaching group. They are heavily clothed, with what my be either a thick coat or jackets upon jackets. They looks to have similar mass and heights- a result of the coats you figure. They wear hoods that obscure most of their face, with one of them wearing what looks like a ski-mask. What do you do?

Too suspicious. You quickly find cover behind some pitiful wreckge of a sofa and other rubbish. You spy on them as they trudge through the snow. And the distance between you and them thins with passing time. You wait for some time until they are frightfully close, shifting position as needed but not daring to breathe. They pass behind some ruins and you move accordingly to retain vision of them - you knock something over - they turn. Chutiye. You curse yourself. You dive under the debris, hoping they had not seen you, or even better, decide to continue on their way paying, at most, a suspicious glance. Your hopes are dashed when you hear the sound of snow crushed under feet come closer. And closer. Fear gripes you. You remain suprisingly level-headed, however.

Dammit David. Ill do a test roll. See if I can get bast 7.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

You dash out from behind the wall of debris, realizing how futile it is to continue hiding.

You dont bother, or dare to look at them as you sprint as fast as you possibly can. But they are on you in a matter of seconds. In fact, something impacts your head and you hit the ground - hard. You feel a swelting bruise on the back of your head and you someone pins you down. Your body is embraced by the cold of the sleet, and your face is suffocated by white.

"Stay down, bitch", growls what you can identify as an older man.

"Fuck, its that kid," adds a younger, but still aged man.
"How the Hell she get out?"

"Go get the fucking rope", barks the older man.

"Go fuck a rock", retorts the younger man, though you hear the sound of cruching snow distance

You struggle under the mass that bears down on you. Fruitless. You are firmly pinned to the ground.

"Dont even try it, bitch. I'll sever your arms from your body," your captor whisper into you ear.

The heavy smell of smoke invades your nostrils.

You are unarmed, leaving the knife back in the remains of the house. You do not hear the third figure but you assume that he or she is still within feet of you. What do you do?

>Go along with them for now.
>Respond defiantly. Although your face is muffled, you can lift your head up and still speak.
>Bluff.
>Write in.

David, you said you were new. Then I'll reiterate, the best options may not be listed, imagine yourself in the situation and >write in. You might come up with some suprisingly fun answers. And Im experimenting with format, sorry if it turn out to look weird. Turning in for the day.
>>
Yo, newfag here. This looks fun. If you need more players I'm down. If not then I'm still enjoying this.

As for what to do, we don't seem to be very assertive, but we got smarts. Low con and no gear means we won't do well in a fight, plus we're outnumbered. Talking won't help because these assholes know more about us than we do. I say we keep quiet and stay alert. Look for an opportunity and capitalize on it, use to an advantage. Hopefully we should be able to escape. Not really a very straightforward write in response but that's what I got.

Oh shit, new anon. Welcome aboard Pat. I try to make this interesting. This is the first time I've written a story since the 2-3 projects I did in middle school. And yeah sure, I'll to put you in when I can.
>>
And guys, I would like your opinion on this quest's current and future mechanics:

>1. Do you guys prefer only player-controlled allies or throw NPCs into the mix?

>2. Your PC will mostly be controlled by you - I'll kind if speak through Anjali and narrate. But seeing that we need to be on the same side, the goal is simple: stay alive alongside Anjali.

>3. PCs CAN die. So can Anjali. Its not zombie apocalypse if no one dies.

>4. You may get shit stats but you can make up for it with traits.
e.g.
Martial Artist: +2 to all close-combat combat rolls.

>5. Mfw the thread's 118 posts in and still no zombies
Although, I hope you guys caught the subtle hints Ive placed in the writing.

You dont test him. I can hear the promise in your captor's threat, and it sends a chill down your spine. But you doubt that what they plan to do with you will leave you content.

These people are insane.

You decide to bide your time. Yes. Patience is a virtue.

A moment passes before you hear the sound of crunching snow once again, this time approaching you. The man that had left returns with a length of rope as was ordered.

"'Ere's you fuck'in rope."

The older man says nothing, immediately getting to work and binding you.

Finally, he stands and the wieght on your back is lifted - only in exchange for your body to be tethered into inertia.

He barks at the other man and they begin to carry you to the warehouse
.
The room. Again.

Minutes pass as you count your luck on your fingers and dread festers in the pit of your stomache. You hope to Ganesha that you will see freedom once more, with your body and mind intact.

You arrive.

They throw you onto the floor and the impact sends a sharp pain ringing through your body.

You mind and body are almost at their limits.

You hope you do not pass out, lest you miss a chance to escape. Though you doubt that you will be able to, so thoroughly constrained as is. The reality riddles holes through your meager hope, whispering you to submit and let Death take you. Through the swirl of depressing thoughts, you hear someone vague voice.

"Dan, check the girl. You know what'll happen."

You hear an almost inaudible shuffle approach you.

"Sorry", croaks an old voice.

He checks the bruise on your head, the one you had recieved via some uninvited projectile.

Anjali:

>Talk to the man who you presume to have some medical knowledge. Maybe convince him to help you?
>Remain silent.

The man you identify as "Dan" attempts to clean your wound.

It stings.

He is old, and you presume his age lies somewhere in the range of his early 50s to early 60s.

He looks different, however, than the others. And that much is suggested by his touch. Pity, regret, or frustration - possibly a mixture of all three and more, subtly detail his face. You suspect he is not...morally challenged as the other two who hold you captive.

But you also find it difficult to trust the man.

Maybe.

You decide to test the waters - will it carry you to a better place? Or will it rush at you with hungry currents until you are drowned and dead?

The two other men leave and you continue to foster anticipation and a small sliver of hope revitalized by possibility.

You get ready to speak.

But he acts first.

"A-", he catches his voice.

He looks at you nervously, eyes sifting and flitting between the door and you. Then he rest his eyes on yours, boring into you like he is trying to convey something - an idea.

But he hangs it there, neither pressing forward nor withdrawing.

He finishes dressing your wound and finally says

"Now isn't the time to talk. Just trust me."
You give him a look so obviously dubious that for a second his face is awash by helplessness and almost angst, as is if he had too many
regrets in life but has long lacked the power to make things right. And not enough time.

But inevitably you nod, and he exits the warehouse.

Not like you could do anything at the moment either way.

And you might no get another oppurtunity to.

Alrighty Pat, gimme a plan. I need, at the least, a simple outline. I'll give more information in the next post about your situation.

>Dupe the assholes. Elaborate.
>Kill them. Elaborate.
>With precise timing, you find an opening to escape. Elaborate.
>Write in

Expand on what you say just a little if you can.
Also, keep in mind that you work with them, albeit not by choice. They realized the usefulness of keeping a doctor around. And you needed help in other fields.

------------------------------------------

Going to help the mother, be back in a hour or and hour and a half, hopefully.

It took me a bit of thinking, but here's what I've got. Anjali didn't feel the snow or notice the cold until she got outside, meaning the inside of the room is at least decently well sheltered, which means it's probably at least decently dry. And there's a stack of wood in the corner. From your picture, some of the wood appears splintered, and oh aren't splinters just such excellent kindling.

You know where I'm going with this.

Smoke and light both attract attention, and these guys probably don't want that. If a fire can be started, they'll be eager to leave.

So here's Dan's plan of action
>Loosen the knots slightly so that Anjali can escape
>Find a way to either stealthily or "accidentally" set that stack of wood ablaze to cover her escape.
>Pray that she doesn't succumb to asphyxiation, pain, cold, dehydration, hunger, horrible raging fire, or other external threats.

-Dan-

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures which are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own
frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling
and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

Those who seek my help...

An oath you took with an eager breath all those years ago. Wishful, hopeful, devoted, and so keen on doing right by others. Ironic. There are still many who seek help, but only now there is
little to nothing you, or others, can do. But it sustains your sanity - a memento of the the world when it was upright. And it does little it can do to provide assurance albeit the uncertainty it causes you about your role in this world.

After all, what use is a doctor that can't help others? To cure them? To treat them? To save them? And it haunts you.

The least you can do is save this girl. Beaten and battered.

After all, what've you left to lose? May as well use the time you have left...

[1/2]

You approach them.

You were never told either of their names. But you shared yours. Besides that, you three communicate in a distant manner. "You", "him", not bothering with the use of names, or their use of some derogatory tag.

"I finished."

"Good. Wouldn't do to have another shit muncher out there."

The de facto leader of the group, you observe. He seems to have some experience in war but he's no "defender". Certainly not anymore. Maybe he worked in the underground?

"Dirty fuckers...", mutters the other.

You nod and walk away. You need some time to think.

You've considered escaping before. You've been living easier, not doubt, with their help albeit in spite of yourself. But following them any longer...you're still a doctor by title. By self-proclaimed emeritus, at the least. You refuse to stand by them as they commit atrocities, in the name of survival or otherwise. Like with the girl. You must escape.

With her.

You don't like what the ideas that they're coming up with to deal with her. Lunacy. Absolute lunacy. Have men been driven so low?

In this world of new, where there is no law, men have all the more reason to stand strong by their moral principles and discplines.

They need order.

We need order.

You sit down on a platform of strewn ruin. Minutes on minutes have passed and you come to what you believe is a plan that may just work.

Torch the wood. Smoke them out. And hope she escapes by her own ability.

It isnt much, but it is still that much more than nothing.

And you set out to work...

-Anjali-

Hours pass.

This time, you are left on the cold ground - the rope a python tigthening around its prey.

You are utterly exhausted.

Dan returns. He offers you water as well as basic foodstuff.

You accept them and spend feels like a wink in time spent on nibbling on the meager provisions - too tired to gorge yourself despite not eating for Ganesha knows when.

Your eyes return to him.

He has not yet left, standing and looking at you with a eyes of pity and determination - an odd coupling of sentiments.

He moves silenty towards you and hoists you up. He begins to tug at the ropes in what seems like coordinated locations, frequenting around your limbs.

"Try to loosen them up a little more. Not too much. Not yet," he tells you in hushed whispers.

And with that, he shuffles to the door.

"Wait", you call out.

A soft voice with a hint of your native accent and hoarse with exhaustion.

"Are you to help me?" Your own voice sounds strangely alien but also just as nostalgic. You havent spoken for a while and and with every passing word, air tickles the back of you scratched throat.

"The best I can". And he leaves.

You can spare no energy to think any further.

You close your eyes and let your exhaustion take you...

***

Indistinct chatter. People. Many, many people. Now they scream. Now they die. Now they hunt.

And fire consumes us all.

You wake to a wave of heat and light.

Fire dances in the warehouse. Its heat licking your face. It takes moment to gather your bearings and you are stupifiedly brought to an epiphany: the warehouse is on fire and
soon you will be too.

You struggle aganist the ropes all you can. They wringle loose...looser...loose enough for you to remove an arm. You frantically free your other and begin kicking furiously. After what seems like too many seconds filled with your panic and audience with death, you stand. Your body moves before you think and you are at the door by the time your eyes proccess where the door even is. You throw it open and run out of the warehouse.

For a moment, you are brought back to your first awakening and hesitate. The destruction and desolation. The sheer lack of life. Then it occurs to you once more:

Where are they?

No, it doesn't matter. You quickly scan the landscape - or lack thereof. Which direction do you go?

>North: you see a more urbanized setting is beyond the stretch of land. The distance across becomes increasingly cluttered.
>East: you see a more suburbian setting.
>West: you see a more urbanized setting is seen beyond the stretch of land. Appears to be less construed than the north.
>South: continues setting. More ruralized.

You start running towards the rural outset. Fortunately, feel almost better than before your sleep, however long it was. But you also feel your body's wieght with new clarity.

You cant outrun them, so you'll outsmart them.

You survey your surroundings and in a few seconds, patch up a plan that just might work.

Your pour on as much speed as you can manage, willing more than ever for you legs to move.

You dive to the left, behind the adequately high mound of a ruined edifice and out of sight from your pursuers. The manuever brings you to a new path flanked by wreckage on either side. You quickly snatch up some small token of ruin and run down.

Now you count for you life.

5...4...3...

You chuck the piece far ahead then dive and scramble under the wreckage.

2...1...

Tak tok

And then the stomping of feet.

"Down ahead!"

You squeeze your eyes shut and stop your breathing.

A few more seconds pass and they cross you. But you dont dare to move, see, or breathe until moments after the sound of their feet travel out of earshot.

You strain your ears first.

Cautiously, you open your eyes and peer out into the path.

Clear.

You creep out at first, then bolt. Thankful for the first time of the destruction that surrounds you, you give a silent thanks to Vishnu - wierd.

You run the opposite direction, careful to cover yourself with the surrounding obstructions.

Shallow breaths.

Awake, Dan. Stay awake.

You groan, propping yourself up with an arm.

They caught you. You messed up big time.

You had no choice but to throw the match and hope for the best. But the best was not what you got.

They had no choice but to leave the warehouse, though they made sure to channel their frustration out on you.

You've probably broken a few ribs, definitely your nose. You left eye is so swollen that you can just barely see the light - how ironically fortunate.

You can hardly move but you dont have a choice in the first place. They ran after who you can only assume was her, and God be with her. She must escape, or all will be for naught.

Now its your turn.

You prop yourself up on both hands and begin crawling.

No. I'm leaving a blood trail.

With as much effort you can muster, you bring youself to your feet and begin to trudge forward to your checkmate: the pen.

And a single horse.

They kept it fed, as best as they could for hopes of using it in the future. Now it will be your savior. You fall over the plank walls and onto the ground, but grudgingly pick yourself back up and approach the horse.

It whines and slowly trots away.

Can't blame it. I probably look like a...zombie

You call for it pleadingly.

It hestitates at first, but then concedes.

You have always had a soft spot for horses, engaging in some horse riding with your father back when you were a child. Fortunately, that prompted you to be the primary caretaker for the
horse - and gain its trust.

Climbing onto its back, you will it to approach the gate, of which you rudely kick out.

You pat its neck and yell the heartiest "gallop" you can.

And you two are gone.

Shallow breaths.

Awake, Dan. Stay awake.

You groan, propping yourself up with an arm.

They caught you. You had assumed they trusted you enough. But no, they were watching you - and caught you in the act.

You panicked, you threw the match and hoped for the best.

They ran after who you can only assume was her. God be with her. She must escape, or all will be for naught.

But now its your turn.

With as much effort you can muster, you bring yourself to your feet and start forward to the car. They left the keys in the ignition. They always do. Neither trusted the other
to keep them on his person. Always watching, always doubting. Though you never thought that extended to you.

Fool. I'm a fool

You can patronize yourself later, you urge.

Painful minutes pass but you arrive at the car - just in time. They would have the same idea, not doubt. Chase her by car. More effecient. You enter the car as they begin running
towards you. Of course, thats when they were crossed with the thought that they were too late and so resolved to shooting you.

You put the car into ignition and slam it forward - raddling your body with pain. You bring yourself as low as possible to avoid the incoming bullets and ram into them, not slowing once
until you see the girl.

It takes longer than you would have liked to find her, but eventually you do. You stop abruptly and open the door.

"Get in," you command.

You expect resistance at first. But she exceeds your expectations. She was either terribly naive or impresively mature and quick to understand. She would not make it far, I you have proven
yourself an ally. She does, of course, choose to sit in the back.

"You are hurt", she observes.

"Indeed I am, child."

"Thank you for helping me. But why?"

You chuckle in spite of your pain.

Inquisitive little one.

You choke out your next words - you need medical attention soon.

"I made an oath...to help people in need"

You look at her from the rear-view mirror. Her eyes are painted with worry, but also suspicion.

"Dont worry, I'm a doctor. I will check my wounds when we are safe."

A nice child, you think. She worries about your pains despite the fact that she was the one held captive.

She open her mouth to speak, but chooses otherwise. You are glad for it. You are in no condition to speak.

You remain quiet.

Watching him silently for what you judge to be a good while, you finally conclude him to have no ulterior motives. Yes, he was with the bad people - your captors. He was one of
them. But he did help you. The fire was likely his doing. Although, that does not improve your judgement of him very much. Lets set the warehouse on fire. The warehouse
that has a tied-up girl in it. Yes!

Very nice.

But he had risked the wrath of the other two - and seemingly experienced it. It is hard to blame a person when they cough blood and wear a nose that points that way as a result of trying to save your life. And he did succeed.

That, and he is likely to know what you dont. Like where you are. Your family. What happened. And how this come to be. You will also need to ask about your loss of memory.

If you recall, you read from a book that this is formally called amnesia. Books. You recognize a silent and safe sort of comfort. You know you like books. You feel you spent a great deal of time with them, amassing knowledge with each ingestion of a word, utterance of a vowel. Your sacred sanctuary of page and ink. But of all that knowledge, nothing would confer a solution to your...problem. But you will not probe a dying man of information. That, you refuse.

The car has slowed and you look out the window.

The place you had the pleasure of waking up to happened to only be cluster of ruination. Beyond that, would be a more barren view, an expanse of land with dull-colored plant life. There were more clusters, of course,
but the land upheld - like its prior - a policy of dispopulation. You had not seen a single other person since your departure. Perhaps they prefered solitude? And then there was the rotful stench that filled the air. It would occasionally file into the automobile through the open windows. But now, the view that beholded you was more...cumulative. Destruction so much, no. Amongst all of what you recognize as houses, a sure indicator of life, there was an ominous silence. A forboding whisper of what had happened. And what may come. Like rows and rows of enormous tombstones.

Dead gods.

Trees frequent the area. And the stench from earlier has grown exponentially...

Dangerous territory

But you had no choice. They would have followed you if you had just relocated to a remote location, the nearest home per say. You had to come to...here. A bold gamble. But also your only hope.

The houses would have supplies. Supplies you would need to treat your injuries. The outskirts would be the safest, at least. Like here. You stop the car.

The houses look, for the most part, similar. One on the furthest right has its curtains closed. The one just opposite doesnt look particularly distinctive. The closest left was obviously disturbed.
The door is open and the top floor window is broken, a gruesome red stain on the lawn. The closest house left to you is relatively normal, having only two of its windows almost completely to a close - if that provides any information at all.

Which one do you choose to rest and tend your wounds in?

>House, right
>House, left
>House, right furthest
>House, left furthest

>Closest left
Dan's general train of thought is that it looks like there was a scuffle here, probably someone met an unfortunate end at the hands of the undead, but that means that it'll likely be relatively untouched by scavengers (due to its spooky exterior) and the (row re-amnimated) corpse of whoever got got is probably either gone by now or so severely crippled from being devoured that it shouldn't pose much of a threat. Just hope nobody passes out from the stench, not at a time like this.
