Alright, let’s try this: Welcome to The Island; long story short, things aren’t looking great for you. It’s a blast from the classic /tg/ CYOA past.I’m IslandBro, and This One-shot Quest is a rogue-like, that means I fully expect you to die before making any sort of progress. Read the accompanying menu, and follow the instructions to pick the tools for your survival and the instruments of your demise. You will wake up on the Island in 30 mins with what you have brought and a metallic collar fused to your neck. The Island is not a safe place and it’s first come first serve; for every action, roll a 1d10 to determine your success, anything above a 5 will have varying positive outcomes, 5 and below will mean failure of varying magnitudes. Three failures in a row will mean instant death. If you die, you die, I stop the quest until I can next be bothered summon another mortal. No second chances. No second-guessing. It’s go time.
Roll a 1d10, and the highest will be the selection I go with. That is if I get more than one taker.
Rolled 10 (1d10)>>252997>The Hovel>Ultratech Operative>Eyes Open>Wandering Scavengers>The General
>>253119This is the selection that I'll be going with going forward. However, I'm gonna abandon thread for now, as I should have done something differently to make better use of the time I got. I'll be back in 5 hours if this thread is still alive by then. If not, I'll restart some other time.
>>253119>>253301>Each gift beyond the second creates a nemesis.>Picking 4 gifts, but only one nemesis.I also nominate the nemesis 0ne-Se7en
>>254072Alright, I'm alive and I'll do this as well. Good catch.
>>253119>>254072You wake up to an unfamiliar ceiling. How’d you get here again? You don’t remember, but looking around finds yourself in a cosy little room, lying on a comfy old couch. It’s a little dusty, but warm, and outside you see a sprawling field of green, surrounded on the edges by forest. There’s a sink, and a little television, and a pile of junk over in the corner. The door looks wonderfully protective. You feel safe. What now?You may also roll for a character bio; Who were you before coming to the island?
>>256085 Is there a window we can look out of?
>>256105Yes, above the sink. The Door also has a window in it.
>>256105Outside the window you get a better look at the plain, soft fluffy clouds abound, and the blue of the sky is innately calming. Beyond the forest, hills rise to block your view of the horizon, but to the… East? Is a valley through which you can glimpse ocean.
Rolled 1 (1d10)>>256124To the Ocean!
>>256210You step outside the house and take in the view. A soft wind brushes against you.As you begin to explore towards the ocean, you venture further and further out into the plain, until suddenly you hear a voice.“Hey! You! Over here!”The source of the voice is a dark figure standing under the canopy of the forest. It’s waving you over. The distraction was unexpected, and you trip and fall flat on your face.
Rolled 8 (1d10)>>256219Check out this "dark figure"What could go wrong?
>>256244You get back up and try to pretend like nothing happened, while jogging over to the figure to make it seem like you were totally on top of it the whole time. As you approach, you recognise the figure as female in a suit of dark armour. Interesting. She also has blue eyes, and dark hair and is, as far as you can tell, smoking hot. Also interesting.“Wow, that was impressive. Are you the one that’s been pinging my radar since I got here?”
>>256260Act super bashful. We probably aren't used to pretty girls looking at us, much less talking to us.
Rolled 5 (1d10)>>256381RIP no dice
>>256387>Aww, well, geez… You get all worked up. What a pretty lady.>Y-you better believe I p-pinged your radar…She cocks her head at you>Baby“Uh-huh… I would say it’s cute to see you all flustered, but it’s getting kinda sad… Anyway, I can’t step onto this field for some reason, would you mind helping me out?”Behind her the forest is looking scary. Should you help her?
Rolled 6 (1d20)>>256441No wander off into the field to think of what to say.
Rolled 8 (1d10)Nah, help her out. She seems cool
>>256473An unorthodox roll, but as it's even I'll allow it.You blush and turn around. Your autism hadn’t prepared you for the possibility of meeting such a refined lady. You can feel your throat constricting as all you promptly forget all the redpill ramblings you used to make before coming here. It is of critical importance that you not screw this up. What can you possibly say to recover the situation?“Uh… Bud? What are you up to? I just need you to touch me to get across the barrier.”>TouchYour palms start sweating, and you still can’t think of anything to say. Damn your crippling social anxiety! You finally resolve to help her.>Yes, M’ladyFuck.
Rolled 9 (1d10)Man the fuck up.Also, ask her about this field, the forest, and where you two are in general.
>>256545You Man the fuck up.>Come here. You walk up to her and grab her by the arm, pulling her onto the field. It seems easier than she was making it out to be. Already you can feel confidence welling in your heart. This is a new start. Now you’re the alpha. But you can’t help but notice the lady giggling.“What was that? M’lady? Holy fuck dude.”You blush.>I was being facetious. She gives you a look; “Oh I’m sure, M’lord.”>Shut up. What do you know about this place?“What, you don’t know? Isn’t this your home? I should be the one wondering why I was brought out of stasis. This place is fucking nuts! I can see why you’d activate your emergency beacon, but you also have it pretty nice in this place.”So, according to my mission statement, I have to get you out of here safely. What rank were you, anyway? ODA doesn’t usually give out personnel protection unless you’re pretty high up.”Well, isn’t that grand.
Rolled 9 (1d10)>>256597Think about coming up with some bullshit answer off the top of our heads, but then realize that we're ass at it. It's probably better to be honest. We have no idea what this place is or how we got here
>>257082You think of a few zingers to fire off at the pretty lady, but only after you had the chance to use them. That always happens. Instead of coming up with some elaborate lie you’re sure she would pick up on, you instead be honest.>I have no idea what I’m doing here; I only woke up an hour ago. I can’t say I’ve ever heard of the ODA, either. Who are you, again? The lady looks at you with curiosity; “You’ve really never heard of the ODA? Well, that’s all right, I suppose, not everyone in Ultratech knows everything about the company. But you managed to get an operative sent after you, so they must want you something bad.”She leans back and looks at the sky; “I’m Agent Vandal-Model 32a, but you can just call me Ma’am.”Well, all right then.“We should probably find some way to set up a landing zone for a pickup. Do you have a generator in that hovel of yours? Oh, and do you have a name?”
Rolled 8 (1d10)>>257126>Inb4 Critical fail on naming ourselves. The name is Flynn
Hoping OP isn't dead>>257126Bring her to the house and try to find a generator
We should ask her if she has any guesses as on why the company wants us.
>>257656I ain't dead, just sleeping. If you faggots would post more often I would have to do that.
>>257144>>257656>>258283>Flynn. I don’t know about the generator, I haven’t checked.“Just Flynn? Well, fine then. Let’s go check it out.” You wander over back across the field towards the hovel. You notice now that there appears to be a second level, underneath the first, with a door that probably leads to some basement. When you try it out though, it seems locked.Inside the house serves just as well though, because there is a power outlet, and there is power. Ma’am? The Agent? Number 32 rummages through the pile of junk in the corner.>Any ideas why the company wants me?“Not a clue, M’lord. Thought we established that. It’s either for something really great or really bad, but they want you alive, so it’s better than this place. Now leave me be, I’m working.”Sighing, you collapse back onto the chair and turn on the TV, you turn it off soon after. Apparently Body Horror is the channel of choice here. There is a VCR though, with a couple copies of I Dream of Jeannie and Dad’s Army. You wonder how long it will take for 32 to finish.
Rolled 6 (1d10)>>258476Leave Vandal to her work and leave through the front door. You don't really like the sound of the "wants you alive for something really bad" portion of that statement.
>>258534You wander outside to see if there’s anything you could do in the meantime. The world hasn’t changed much in the last 10 mins, but you can see some thunder clouds doing some weird stuff far away, to the North? Whatever, you’re no boy scout. Directions are hard. You try that basement door again; maybe it isn’t locked anymore... That’s when it hits you. You haven’t blinked since you got here. What the fuck? You try blinking. You can’t. What the shit! It’s then that something changes, and you suddenly have snippets of glowing text run across your vision. You can tell the exact temperature, a cool 18 degrees Celsius. Looking at the basement door, you can see exactly where it’s structural integrity is weakest, and a good kick would break it open. Holy fucking shit, what the hell is happening!
>>258569Remember to not like, break our body or something.KICK THAT SHIT IN.
Rolled 6 (1d10)>>258578That feel when you use a capitol 'd' in the dice roll command and it fails you
>>258578Whoa Whoa dude, what if there is something useful down there? I propose we use our elven eyes to search the hovel on its entirety.
>>258569make the kickenings happen
>>258569Run to Vandal, ask if she sees anything wrong with your eyesKick the door down
>>258578>>258599>>258603You muster up the manly power of your ancestors, and kick that door straight in the damn handle! But it only slightly budges. You try again, A little bit better that time. The Agent pokes her head out the window to see what the racket is.“What the hell are you trying to do? Take this whole house down? Stop that!”She comes round to meet you; “You look like a twat. Let me help.”She lifts a foot and slams it into the door. Instead of flying off its hinges inside, it just falls forward. “I’ve got work to do, stop annoying me.”You consider asking her about the eyes, but she’s gone before you can. Inside you see perfectly, and what you see isn’t particularly pleasant. You spot a particularly unfortunate little altar at the far end, with the skeleton of a small child lying atop a box.
>>258639Dispose the child, inspect the box.
>>258639Put door back on, barricade it
>>258639OPen the box
This might be the safest zone on the island, but you faggots still need to roll.
Rolled 7 (1d10)Guys, you gotta roll with your votes. Check the op rules.Don't fucking touch the child. Just leave for now, we'll check this shit out after 32 finishes her shit.
Rolled 4 (1d10)>>258671>>258687aight then
>>258659Aaa shit forgot rollingdice+1d10
>>258701put it in the options field, my friend
Rolled 8 (1d10)>>258701>>258718Thanks!
>>258687This guy rolled first, first come first serve. You feel sick, maybe this wasn’t the best idea. You definitely want to check out that box, but you got the heebie jeebies. Let’s just wait til Vandal 32 is done upstairs. Then we can have her protect us from any spooky ghosts. You whisper a silent sorry for having disturbed this place and try to fit the door back into place. Let’s just pretend that never happened. As you step outside you try to get adjusted to your eyes. They’re still freaking you out. The more you think about it the dizzier you feel. When did you get them? What happened to your old eyes? They must have scooped out your old ones… Oh god… With a spoon… Black spots are appearing at the edges of your vision as you try desperately not to think about this shit. Fortunately, you’re broken out of your musings by the sound of a large bang, followed by swearing, and then cheering.Vandal sticks her head out the window; “I just got the damn thing working! Finally! What the hell is wrong with you?”
Rolled 10 (1d10)>>258736Try really hard to not draw attention to the fact that we cant blink. And fail.
>>258742“HOLY FUCK WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOUR EYES!?”Well, that went well.>You tell me.Agent Vandal leaps through the window and tackles you to the ground. How the hell did she do that? She restrains your arms, and takes a good look at your face, Her own deep blue eyes darting around frantically. It’s kind of romantic.“You have some sort of artificial constructs smack dab in your head.”>Yeah, no shit.“Don’t get smart with me, they look similar to Ultratech Oculars, but those cover the whole head. And require a small nuclear reactor to run. These must be a prototype for some new version. No fucking wonder the ODA wants you. Did you steal these?”>No, I woke up with them.“Hey, you’re the one with a nuclear reactor in your head. You want to lie to me, you do it at your own risk.”At that moment you hear a deep rumbling; “Ah, that must be our ride.”Looking up, you see the shadow of an enormous silver airship descending to the house. The shadow of the thing engulfs the small house, and the blast from its jets whips the wind into frenzy.Looks like safety is finally here. Not that you experienced any sort of danger so far. It’s actually been pretty cruisy. You’re certain that nothing could go wrong. That’s when the voice blares; “Ultratech Operative Agent Vandal-Model 32a, step away from the convict. He has been marked for termination.”
Rolled 9 (1d10)>>258823Oh. Umm. Shit. Run away from the unknown safety zone of your hovel. Right into the woods where we found Vandal.
>>258851Vandal 32 is frozen for a moment in confusion, but that moment is all you need. You launch yourself off the ground and sprint for the cover of the forest. Immediately you become certain it was the right choice, as a swarm of uniformed men start rappelling out the airship and firing at you. Through sheer luck you manage to get about 100m before the first bullet grazes you on the forearm. Once you’re hit though, the pain jolts your eyes into action, and they begin plotting the safest route to the forest. You duck and weave and, miraculously, survive. That said, it’s still a kilometre sprint, and it’s only the adrenaline that keeps you going. Once you make it to the cover of the trees, you keep going till you collapse. You’ve lost your companion, great. You doubt you’re getting her back anytime soon. And your arm is hurting, though it should be fine, it’s already scabbing over. That turned to shit quick.
Actually, in an attempt to get greater involvement. You must now roll 2d10. Whoever gets the highest in the first roll is the comment we go with.
Rolled 8, 1 = 9 (2d10)>>258899 Isn't the hovel safe from danger though? I mean I guess that might be the general, but it seemed kinda early to get invaded.Keep heading the direction we were heading: Farther away from the gunmen.
Rolled 9, 2 = 11 (2d10)>>258908I say we search our surroundings for anything useful or interesting. We've covered some good distance between us and them and we should try to form a plan. We probably won't be able to outrun them for long, so we better try to make 'em loose our tracks.
Rolled 4, 7 = 11 (2d10)>>258899keep running and see if you can use your eyes to scan for anything useful.
>>258947You are absolutely exhausted, you aren’t used to running. Lurking threads never did any favours to your health. But you need to keep running. So you haul your lazy ass back up and go. Man, these trees are annoying. And your eyes have stopped telling you were to go, so maybe you’re safe, but you’ll be damned if you stay here. You also realise that you can’t keep running forever, you need a plan to lose them, since they’ll probably track you. You try to look for anything that might help, but nothing comes to you. Unfortunately, while you’re looking for something to help, you don’t notice the guy ahead of you until you walk into him.It seems he was one of the soldiers that was chasing you before. Weren’t you running in the opposite direction?
Rolled 5, 1 = 6 (2d10)>>258972Chokehold him before he alarms the others.
Rolled 9, 3 = 12 (2d10)>>258972LEGSWEEPJUST LIKE THE KUNG FU MOVIES
Rolled 3, 10 = 13 (2d10)>>258972TURN HIS HEAD 180 DEGREES
>>258994You realise that this is your time to shine, there’s no running from this one, and you’ve got to fight. It’s time to unlock your hidden potential. You slam your leg into his in an attempt to trip him over. Or, you would have, if he hadn’t hopped over your leg so that it slammed into the tree next to him.>AHH! My fucking Leg!He punches you in the face, grapples you to the ground and points the barrel of his gun to your head.
Rolled 10, 5 = 15 (2d10)>>259014Use your Eyes to find best solution before your head asplode. Pray that we dont fail for the third time in a row.
Rolled 1, 3 = 4 (2d10)>>259024seconding, maybe kick him in the nuts
>>259024 Time to restart i guess. 3rd fail, our head Asplode. Unless someone else Nat 10's please
Rolled 4, 6 = 10 (2d10)>>259014Here's hoping I get another 10 but with something above 5...Plead and try to escape when you have the chance.
>EYES ACTIVATEThey glow with a godly brilliance, pointing out everything you should have done before you got yourself into this exact position, cause now you’re fucked.>Oh no.The trigger is pulled. Everything goes black. Welcome to the Island.
This is the end of this thread; eventually I might pick another mortal to summon but not now. Not today. But that metal collar had a purpose. When I do see you next, remember that the options chosen this time round will no longer be available, as they’re already on the Island. But your successor will be able to find everything you brought with you, provided your nemesis let’s them keep it. Till then.
Rolled 5, 5 = 10 (2d10)>>259067Heh, that makes for a great intro IslandBro.I guess we restart. I choose:Stone MazeSorceressIsland ChimerasCorrupting fleshTrancendant
>>259103Well fuk. Really liked the concept of this game, hopefully we'll have a good run soon. Really curious as to see what you have planned out.
Rolled 4, 6 = 10 (2d10)>>259067For when you return:>Warship>Drone Weapon>Living Machines>Natural Beauty>0ne Se7en is already on the island, can i choose him again?
