The planet before you shimmers, its atmosphere glowing by the light of it sun. It is truly a gem of a planet, and finding it is truly the first stroke of luck you, or your crew, has had in many, many years. You must make preparations – and you will – but the feeling of dread which has haunted you since that fateful day has finally began to diminish. You process these emotions while your ship continues to coast its way to your destination.

Who are you?

>[Military Officer] Cut off from your fleet and surrounded by enemies, your exotic matter was jettisoned and exploded in a desperate but successful attempt to destroy your pursuers. Your scanners picked up signs of life and you've spent the past millennium approaching it at subluminal speed. At last you've arrived. (-No FTL travel, LOTS of weapons of mass destruction though. Medium sized [20] crew )
>[Reckless Explorer] Your people have always seen themselves as the only life this universe has to offer, and this opinion is held with a mix of pride and sadness. That all changed overnight. A probe from the hundreds of thousands of years ago, when your race still had optimism and hadn't yet discovered cynicism, has miraculously returned with the a simple message: LIFE DISCOVERED. Nihilism is a hell of a thing, and most didn't care. You did. A lot.
(-FTL travel, no weapons, no crew besides your two best friends. Ship is stolen, you might be pursued.)
>[Zealous Clergy] All sapient life must kneel before the All consuming Zorg'tharliam, give thanks to His Glorious Consort Zar'tera, and worship His pantheon. Those who refuse shall be brought to their knees, the words of thanks pulled forth from their lips, and worship languished from them. This planet holds them, the ones who do not know, cannot know, of His glory. This will change.
(-FTL travel, moderate amount of weapons. Large [100] crew that is devoted to you.)

The ship slows in preparation for decent or orbit. This planet has a moderately thick atmosphere, but your ship is in absolutely no danger of burning up, still it might be prudent to go down in a shuttle and leave the ship in orbit. As you ponder this you turn towards your small crew, they look as excited as you feel.

>Land the ship on the planet.
>Go down in a shuttle.

What is your name?
>Write in. Naming convention is male names end in -os.

Who are your friends? Pick two.

>Andra has been your best friend since early childhood. You have always been close to her, but maybe this is the chance you need to get closer. Down there on this strange new planet, discovering alien life, maybe you'll find the courage to tell her how you feel.
>Toros and you never got along well, but that all changed when the probe came. The two of you set apart your differences and over the course of conspiring to get here, you became great friends. You figured the best person to keep you on your toes and motivated was your longtime rival, now that your friends, its even better.
>Ovella wanted to stay behind, she got cold feet. Too bad for her that still manged to talk her into it. You've only known her for few hundred years, but no one else has been through as much with you. If only she would stop complaining that you dragged her here, you're almost certain she's just doing it to annoy you at this point, based on the look of awe she favoring the planet with.
>Osdoros was hard to convince. But having him with you makes you feel much safer. He's trained to be a soldier all his life, and managed to secure his combat gear before you 'borrowed' the ship. In the end, he may be the only person more excited than you to be here, but he also has the most to lose if you did end up being followed.

What is your profession? This choice will decide what you all do, and your skills as well as those of your crew.

You see Toros give you a smug look. “Hah! Liquid water. I told you they wouldn't be some weird methane breathing silicone based lifeforms.” As he laughs, you first feel angry, then a little sad. He's right, it seems that this planet is if anything, overabundant with water. The whole trip you had been suggesting alternate forms life could take besides your own boring oxygen and carbon anatomy. And the whole time he's been making wisecracks because of it, firmly entrenched in his belief that any biology would need to be similar to ours. Being wrong hurts.

Osdoros wacks him upside the head, not hard but enough to elicit an sharp, 'What the hell Doro!' from his victim. He has but a single reply, “No one likes a obnoxious bragger. Take your victory with some humility.”

Toros still distracted by the planet, you lean in to Osdoros and whisper, “Thanks for that. I was about to do that myself though.” He shoots you a toothy grin, showing his sharpened teeth, a common practice among the warrior caste.''

“Well I see a few places that have a high concentration of what appears to be their dominant life-form. The scanners say they may even be sapient.” You grab the attention of your crew, trying to act captain-like, “Any input on where to land?”

After discussing the pros and cons of taking the shuttle, the three of you make the decision to take it, leaving the ship behind in orbit, the automated systems running things for you. After giving the planet a full orbit, and taking the input of your crew, you narrow the target area down to a section of one of the planets major southern continents.

“Alright lets do this.” Ovella is practically hyperventilating shes so excited, but after her outburst she calms as she notices you and Osdoros staring at her in amusement.

“And here I was thinking you wanted to be back home right now, you seem pretty pumped.” You had hoped there would be a chance to get her back for the constant complaining she did the whole trip here, and this chance is as good as it gets.

"Leave me alone Igeos." She wines.

Osdoros, unable to contain himself breaks out in heavy laughter, to the chagrin of Ovella, who hides her embarrassed face by turning away from the two men in the shuttle.

“Alright, we are close to landing lets pick somewhere good.”

How the fuck do you think they would talk? First of all, they wouldn't be speaking english, and any translation would likely have to be indirect, meaning that casual slang is just as valid as formal speech. Beyond that, their perception of time is different. Many animals die by 16. Are we old and venerable by 16?

“How advanced do you think they are if they're sapient?” Osdoros wonders, eyeing his railgun, as if assessing if its enough to take on an unknown threat. The things 5 feet long, half the size of Osdoros, and hes a big guy; you and Ovella would have some serious trouble using it.

“I mean we didn't even pick up and artificially produced radio.” Ovella remarks, “and the dark side of the planet isn't lit up at all so, no electricity. Hmm, actually it looks like they haven't even figured out fossil fuels judging by their atmosphere. So they're pretty primitive.” She stops. “Oh, unless there's not many of them, that would also explain the absences.” Its convenient having an anthropologist like her who can pick up on these things so casually.

The nano-machines in your blood should be able to handle any pathogens or viral elements this planet has to offer, they can even provide you with oxygen if the atmosphere turns out to be lacking. Though from preliminary checks it seems to be fine. Mostly nitrogen weird enough.

You hurtle past a settlement in the mountains on the way to where you planned to land. “Well they are definitely sapient.” Ovella remarks. Osdoros just undoes the safety on his railgun.

If you'd read enough you'd learn that ftl has many implications. One of which being that they likely used ftl to get into the solar system, but within the system the gravity of the sun prevents warp travel. It's a pretty common archetype. From there they'd just fly into the orbit of Earth. Of course, you could always make your own loophole free quest. No one is stopping you.

You give the settlement a longing look, but stay course. This planet is so unbelievably green, none of the grays and purples of your homeworld. You are so excited that your hands are shaking and you've already dropped your specimen jar twice. Its a hardy thing of metal, though so its perfectly fine. You can hardly wait to throw some of these strange stationary organism, where you come from only the dead and the dreamers are sedentary, into it and see what the sensors spit out.

“Maybe you should put that down.” Osdoros says holding back laughter. Ovella just grins, gripping her own jar tightly.

You land and your shuttle restructures itself into a research platform, exposing you all the the atmosphere in the process. The light of there star is bright, much brighter than your own brown dwarf, and the Nantes in your eyes compensate by forming themselves into a thin layer of UV resistant material.

The scenery is breathtaking, to say the least. A body of liquid water flows speedily through the landscape, and large gnarled organism stand proudly around it. You have no clue if any of these organisms are intelligent in any way, you'll need a sample to determine if they have tissues capable of storing and manipulating data. Smaller organisms give the landscape some color, you wonder what purpose all these coloration serve.

Osdoros stands and stretches, “So what are we checking out first?”

A yellow organism catches your eye. It appears to be have some sort of sense organ protruding from the center, perhaps an eye or some sort? And it has thin fleshy limbs arranged circularly around it, perhaps to amplify whatever sense that organ performs? You're getting ahead of yourself here, almost as bad as the methane breathing hypothesis, though slightly less unfounded you suppose.

“I want to check those out. Could you grab me a sample from one of the large organisms though. I'll regret this if they are sentient, but vivisect me out a nice chunk.” He simply laughs and begins to approach the nearest large organism.

“I saw something move over there, I'll go check it out.” Ovella says before walking off in the opposite direction.

You carefully pull the entire organism from the soil by grabbing it at the base. To your surprise there ends up being a fibrous mass that was hidden beneath the dirt, you suppose to anchor the thing in place. You close your specimen jar, and wait for it to work its magic. Nanites are released in a mist and begin to cellular disassemble the organism, communicating with each other and mapping the cells positions. Its a process you designed, and you're quite proud of it.

After the organism is broken it cells, and the cells are mapped, each cell is then analyzed and stored as a digital copy before molecular dismantlement. The resulting compounds trickier, the small processor struggles to reverse engineer the the various proteins and chemicals, and hopefully demystify their functions. The machine stores specimens in triplicate of each individual part at all levels of complexity, and the majority of the matter is then converted to energy for the nanites.

By this time Osdoros has returned with a core taken from the other organism. “That thing was actually decently tough, I was surprised.” He quips, but he hands you a good sized chunk. On one end is the outer skin of the thing, which is surprisingly thick, and feels as rough as it looked. The flesh gets lighter then past the line the skin makes, and there are lines all down the thing to the center, which is even lighter. You assume that means whole would have rings going by its circular shape, or perhaps it is layered.

It's just the right size to fit into the specimen jar, luckily, and so you do so. You read the results of the first analysis and are shocked at what you see. The organism doesn't breath the air in this atmosphere, it creates it! It takes in carbon dioxide! You have to tell Ovella, you almost can't believe how lucky you are. If you can bring some of these back to your homeworld and breed them, well, you'll be rich. All your projects could be self funded. Another interesting fact, which explains the sedentary nature of the plants, is that the cells themselves have a rigid outer layer. Odd.

“Hey, you two need to come see this!” Ovella's voice in mental radio distracts you from your speculation.

>Finish analyzing the plants, tell Ovella she can wait.

You ping her location with a thought and make to go to where she is. Osdoros just shrugs and follows you. The gravity here is very low, your planet is larger than any in this solar system besides the fifth one out from its star, but only this planet holds life and so the others held no more than passing interest. Walking is extremely easy, and though you were never very athletic, the excitement coupled with the low gravity has put a spring in your step. Your friend on the other hand makes impressions in the ground with every step, the result of him casually lugging around an 600lb weapon, and being two feet taller than you are, an imposing 10 feet compared to your average 8 foot height.

After a bit of walking you catch sight of Ovella's thin frame, the metallic sheen of her suit catching the light. She stands beneath an earthy ledge, looking up. You follow her gaze. It appears she really has found something interesting. Colorful things, vivid really. You just saw one fly. With its own power biological power. Speechless and looking for words, the sight fills you with wonder.

>Ask Osdoros to catch one with a net. You must have it.
>Ask Ovella if she's puzzled out how they are capable of flight unaided by technology.

“Doro, I need of of those. It's solved biological flight.” As a biologist the implications of this are staggering.

“Sure. I'll get a net.” You hear him send a transmission to the research platform. A drone traveling at slightly below this atmosphere's speed of sound appears seconds later dropping off a net with 10 feet of reach, before changing direction to return to your research platform. He takes mere seconds to choose a target, setting his weapon down upright, before leaping into the air twice his height. In a show of hand eye coordination that you can only describe as impressive, he catches the colorful flying thing in the net, which immediately seals itself closed around the now struggling organism. He lands and the net handle retracts to two feet, before being held out in your direction.

It's a real toss up regarding the things struggles, you cannot decide if they are more physical, the flailing, or audible, the thing lets loose a series of panicked sharp noises. You see the rest of the organisms take flight from there perches, to presumable hide in the large rough organisms all around them. Well that's the first sign of intelligence this planet has offered you.

You request a drone from the ship, and it zips over to pick up the still flailing and screaming creature. That taken care of the two of you proceed to Ovella. She gives Osdoros a dirty look, “I was studying those, you know.” She pauses for a moment before continuing, “Nice catch though.” The dirty look is replaced with a half smile, and you can tell she was just pretending to be upset.

“Thank you so much for calling me over, those things were fascinating.” You tell her honestly. You hear an ominous growl somewhere in the distance, but choose to ignore it.

“I know, they really were. I was watching their behavior. They seem to be low intelligence, but have social behaviors. They appear to communicate through those whistling sounds they make. I'll have check out the behaviors of that one you have in captivity later.” Another growl in the distance this time louder, almost desperate. “What was that you think? And the one before.” She looks to the direction the sound originated in.

Suddenly a medium sized creature crashes down from the earthen ledge a few feet in front of you, bloodied from some struggle it growls at you all in panic upon seeing you, and tries to turn back. Black in color, it walks on four legs, and has a mouth full of teeth even sharper than Osdoros'. As if this wasn't enough excitement another creature comes crashing over the ledge; a much different creature. It's eyes are filled with intelligence, and it wields a club like weapon in one hand. It slows its descent down the hillside with skillfully placed steps, and kills the confused animal in a single blow to its head. Dying, the black colored animal sprays crimson all over the ground. Well now this is interesting. The creature stands before you, chest heaving, club gripped tight. Its eyes hold a powerful distrust, maybe suspicion. It takes a neutral pose, as if waiting to see what you will do.

"Doro, get ready to end him if he tries anything." Suddenly serious, Odoros points his over-sized weapon clearly sapient creature. The familiar low thrumming of the railgun lets you know you can safely approach. At the thrumming the creature takes a step back, as if suddenly unsure of itself. A few measured, painfully slow, steps later and the black creature lies at your feet. You give it a few prods with your booted foot, your talons safely retracted into the toes of your feet. It remains moving. As does the other creature which appears to be trying to decide between fight or flight, liquid runs freely from its brow. Perhaps a nervous response?Fascinating. The language problem is probably my least favorite thing about Scifi. I'll let you vote on it, hardest to softest.

>We learn the language regularly, through contact and time.
>We learn the language by listening to it and applying our superior intellects to decode its secrets by breaking down parts mentally.
>We spray a fine particulate mist into any orifice or broken skin, the mist is specialized nanites, the navigate the the creatures language system and study memory patterns, relaying all of this to us by radio, and giving us the ability to speak it perfectly.
>Same as above, but instead the nanites form a an organ in the hosts brain that lets them hear our radio as if it was speech.

The creature looks to you warily, a single foots slowly slid out behind him, as if preparing to run. You open your mouth, pointing to yourself. “Igeos.” He stops moving, curious. Osdoros follows suit, using his free hand to point to his chest. “Osdoros.” His teeth make the creatures face change color slightly, as if the blood receded leaving him lighter skinned. A fear response? He takes a step back, and the lump beneath the skin of his throat bobbles a bit. Finally Ovella does the same. Emotions play across his face, too many to get a good look at any of them. Finally he uses his free hand to point to himself, “Tonapa.” He says simply. You raise your hands, palms in his direction, in what you hope is a nonthreatening gesture. You crouch down near the black creature, and extend a single claw, cutting off its long, thin appendage, noting that there is bone through it. An extension of the spine perhaps? You give the animal a push in his direction, point at it and then point at him, before taking two steps back. He removes a knife and crouches by the animal, skinning it with half his attention, while nervously watching the three of you with the rest.

>Spray him with translator nanites while he is distracted, anywhere on his face should be fine.

While the creature busies himself with his work you look for an opportunity. At one point he raises a bloodied hand to whip the liquid from his brow out of his eyes. You see your chance and take it. Removing a cylinder from a pocket of your suit with a quick motion, you position it and will it to discharge the nanites within. A fine particulate mist shoots out at a fast enough speed that it will mostly likely sting, but it should get over the discomfort. The sting will be the least of his worries 5 seconds in. He clutches his head and falls to the bloodstained ground, moaning, if not in pain, at least in discomfort.

Several minuets go by. It... it should be working by now. His moaning has changed to a soft whimper. Oh dear. After a half hour goes by, the three of you do manage to pick up his language, in garbles bits and pieces sent over at seemingly random intervals. Its annoying to say the least. Ovella decided to stop receiving, and Osdoros followed suit, saying they would pick it up from me when I got all the data, seeing as how I'm the one who decided to spray him with no warning, to either him, or them.

The language is somewhat crude, not holding a handle to the subtle complexities that your peoples languages hold. His language has 40 less cases, and there's not even a single way to for simple palindrome sentence construction, it just lacks the feature; how can they write poetry like this. It boggles the mind.

After a further 20 minuets the man gets up, staring at you dumbly. “Can you understand me?” You ask in a perfect imitation of his own voice. He continues to stare no understanding in his eyes, points at his mouth, it opens and closes silently a few times. He tries a gain managing a grunt, followed by gibberish. “Can you understand me, if so nod once.” He continues to stare, after a good 45 seconds he points at his ear. More liquid is flowing freely now, this time from his eyes. He's a mask of anguish. Well it appears you've fried his language center.

>He's a lost cause, bag him, tag him, drone him to your ship.

You pull out your pistol to incapacitate the suffering creature trying to string together a sentence but producing only gibberish. You set it to a voltage commonly used to incapacitate your own people and fire away. He jerks, clearly in pain, but is otherwise fine. Fear, and fear alone now dominate his features. He sprints to the trees with a shriek. Well, it appears these creatures are much more resistant to electric shock. You set the pistol to ten times the voltage, to be safe, with a thought and aim it at his fleeing back. This time you get the desired result, he slumps to the ground, bonelessly, but only for a mere fraction of a second. Then the convulsing starts. That, is not supposed to happen. You check the body once it calms, and find the tale tell signs of breathing, at least that's relief. A drone comes, changing shape to an elongated cylinder around the body, beginning the journey back to your ship. The medical automatons should keep it sedated until you need it. Well, you've found the nonlethal voltage for incapacitating what you can only assume is this planets biggest threat, so there's that.
“So, what should we do now Igeos? The days are really short here.” You see the truth of her words, shadows grown long, and the protective film of your eyes has grown thinner; its getting dark.

It's been a long day. But seeing as how, coming down here, you had no idea what to expect, it was a good day, all things considered. You got a decent amount accomplished, four samples. The soft yellow organism, the core from that rough organism (which reminds you, you should check the remainder of it out to see how that wound is effecting it, judging by the first stationary organisms analysis, they have no intelligence, not even an ability to feel pain), the colorful flying organism was a truly interesting find, catching one alive was probably the right decision. The intelligent creature though, you're ambivalent. One one hand, you found the first intelligence in the universe besides your own people, and what do you do? You render it unintelligent; what poetic irony. You wring your hands in guilt. You had always hoped there was intelligent life out there, ever since you were small, reading the fictions passed down from happier ages, filled with all sorts of life. Any justification you can make feels hollow, but you did what seemed right at the time. Oh well, you'll try to fix it later.

“Igeos! I asked what you think we should do, and you've stood there in silence for ten minuets.” Oh.

“Sorry, my mind was heavy.” You finally say after a short pause. “Lets return to the shuttle, and head back to the ship. There's no reason to spend the night here.” You turn to walk away, and are caught from behind in a hug.

“We know you didn't mean to do it, Igeos. I'm sure we can make him well again.” The hug is brief, just meant to be comforting, but it was a nice gesture. You do feel a bit better. You're also reminded of your status as a bachelor, but end that train of thought as soon as it begins.

Osdoros, had gone already ahead to the platform, probably while you were in thought. He has already sorted everything out and prepared the shuttle by the time you and Ovella arrive. “I released a few drones, to collect samples autonomously overnight. They should still be fresh in the morning.” You thank him for his initiative, it was a good idea, and the three of you make your assent to the ship.

After you all clean up, you head to the medical bay, where Tanapa is floating unconscious in a tube of thin oxygenated gel. His breathing is even; but his face, even now he languishes. He must be plagued by bad dreams.
You spend several hours pouring over his data, the other specimens untouched, unexamined, and unimportant. It appears the speech center of his brain has been ravaged, a mass of fibrous scar tissue surrounded by aggressive, cancerous tumors. The remaining nanites in his brain, still hold the pristine plan of the area from their initial scan, and its possible, you think to restore the region with the use of slightly modified translator nanites. Or you could just remove the tumors, they will for sure kill him within a few years if left alone. To restore his speech center, you would say there's an 60% chance he will die. Simply removing the tumors carries almost no risk. Either way, he will never speak again, but if the area is restored, he will once again be able to understand. A mute can live a full and fullfilling life, there's no doubt about it.

[Extra Post]

You are Tonapa. Today has been mostly spent stalking a shadowcat. Its been a good day, you're are almost upon the beast. Finally you see it, stretching out on a pile of leaves, a perfect opportunity. You steel youself. Today will not be the day you die. With soft steps you approach the beast. Wary, careful, you stalk your prey. Yes, soon you will taste its meat. Soon you will wear its coat back to your tribe, victorious. The position of Cheif Hunter has been open for two moons now, Ol' Teuhata having finally passed. He was a stubborn old man, who didn't know when to step down, but still his death was full of honor. He died at the claws of the very beast you now ready yourself to attack. Today is a good day, and it won't be your last.

You swing with all your might, and blow lands directly on the shadowcats back. It does not drop, to your surprise, but swipes at you in a rage giving off a mighty growl. You feel your face burn with the strength of your grin, yes, challenge me oh king of beasts. You swing again, your power flowing through you, more alive then you've ever felt. A crushing blow. The animal growls take on a panicked quality, and the bloodlust overwhelms you. It flees. You follow. Crashing through the leaves you both run, the chaser and the chased. You feel the pride of your ancestors, you feel them grant you their strength, Teuhata's vengance will be swift. It leaps over a ledge, in desperation. You laugh and follow, sliding down the earthen hill with practiced grace. The animal has stopped for some reason, turned to face you even. You have never heard of an animal with pride, an animal that stands to fight with honor. You will grant it the honor it deserves. Your vision zeros in on your kill, time slows as your bludgeon flies, faster than its ever flown. The blow is perfect, you swell with pride, and revel in your victory. Then you see them. The demons. Fear captures your heart. You go to run. Your feet will not carry you, as if the demons have laid hold to your very soul.

Today you die.

It's too late, the damage is done. The creature before you, face twisted in sorrow, did not deserve this. And it doesn't deserve a half baked solution. You've stolen his voice from him, you found the light that shined in his mind, the light of intelligence, and you snuffed it out. It's time to take responsibility for your actions. You think the the thought that ends him, but turn first unable to watch. He's much more complex than the other organisms you've studied on the planet, and a full analysis should be done by morning. His death had purpose, you tell yourself. No one else will suffer as he has because of him. You spend some more time pouring over the data, and are now sure that the nanites will work without issue.

You breath a sigh of relief, and realize how cramped you are from your focus on work, and bad posture. With a groan you stand, stretching out, and spot the other samples, its pretty late. If you stay up to look at them, you won't get enough sleep by the time you've planned to leave tomorrow; but any work you do now could yield massive returns in the day to follow. You're torn.

You opt for the moderate solution. Both the mad scientist and responsible professional in you disprove. You opt for a short study of the dead black creature and with the aid of your proper ship machinery you manage to get a good deal done in a short time. The fine projections covering the creatures body appear to be stands of protein, they are very durable, and you consider the myriad of uses such a feature would pose. It appears to be an obligate carnivore, judging by its teeth. Likely an apex predator, if the claws are anything to go by. It has a sleek body-plan, clearly built with speed in mind, even going so far as to use all of its limbs for locomotion, having no opposable appendages or other tools to manipulate objects. It likely lacks the intelligence to manipulate objects even if it had the means, though you will need a live subject to make sure. You're impressed by Tonapa's felling of this beast, he having no claws, no talons, fighting with only a bunt force melee weapon.

Deeper analysis will have to wait, the days events wear on you, and you look forward to sleep. As make yourself comfortable in, you release your talons and let lose, tearing into the bedding material as you stretch out, back arched. Your last thoughts before sleep are how you will spend tomorrow.

You awake rested, and your return to consciousness is met with a mental quip by Ovella, “You missed breakfast.” You reply with a sleepy, “I just woke up, get out of my head.” Its true, but you didn't oversleep, you set your alarm 30 min later than you probably should have to ensure you were well rested. Breakfast was a calculated sacrifice. You can eat on the shuttle down in any case.

“So any plans for today?” Osdoros asks when you enter the room he and and Ovella are sitting in, waiting for you.

“Yes, I wanted to check out that settlement we saw yesterday, how's that sit with you two?” You expect them to both be on board with the suggestion, but figured you may as well get their input.

“Well, that's certainly more my forte, they have history, culture, I bet. As nice as our nature walk yesterday was, that's more your thing.” Ovella answers honestly.

“Sounds fine to me, lets go.” Is Osdoros' simple reply. The three of you venture through the ship, making your way to one of the shuttles. After entering, Osdoros picks up his gun from where it was resting, and you open the ships bay doors, beginning the now familiar descent.

The settlement is primitive, there is no doubt. But it has a certain neatness to it, too. A charm you can't quite place. You hover, cloaked and unseen, above what seems to be a forum or city center of some sort. You amplify the sound from down there, listening intently to see if you can comprehend whats being said. The dialect is off, but its close. You can understand them fairly well, but you might want to still invest the time in learning it properly with your improved nanites.

>Make contact, offer to gift one of them with nanites.
>Make contact, infect one with your nanites without asking.
>Make contact, use the current language skill you have, and transfer the data for it to your companions.
>Make contact, feign ignorance of their language and use this to your advantage.

>>
>>252898
study them for a few days, and when the time is right make contact
>>
>>252875
You decide to devote a few days to observing these sapients unseen. Ovella is nearly giddy at the prospect. Osdoros is harder to read, but you can tell he's enjoying himself. He is particularly interested in this warrior culture they have cultivated, with concepts that you understand somewhat, thanks to the nanites, but can't truly grasp; honor, valor, sacrifice. Ovella learns much of their behaviors. She investigates their culture with a certain academic hunger that you haven't seen her display since she was a student at the university you taught at. With every new discovery of their belief and history she gets more excited. Eagerly taking in all the oral history she can manage to overhear.

With spirits so high in your group, you almost lose focus several times, but pull through. You take particular interest in their eating habits. It seems many of them are actually carnivores, eating meat which they first soften over heat, they must have weak jaws, perhaps its for digestive benefit. But in addition to meat, you are surprised to see that they not only eat the stationary organism, they they call plants, but also cultivate them in a system they call agriculture. Though not high in number, a significant number of them consume solely plant matter. They also have a domesticated a strange animal they call the Llama, it gives them quite a few benefits. They take the protein stands, which they call hair, and many of them sport a head full of it, and make a textile out of which has a great deal of use. A strange and mildly disgusting practice that they seem to quite relish also take place with these Llama. The females produce a nutrient discharge used to feed their offspring. They gather this and consume it in various. You were surprised when they drank the stuff. You were shocked when they beat in in a bowl, added bacteria, then left it to curdle, before consuming it with vigor the next day. You pity them their underdeveloped digestive system, it must be exceeding inefficient if the quantity of waste they produce is anything to go by. After four days spent watching them, you've picked up their dialect naturally. You couldn't speak it with the fluent grace granted by your nanites, you might speak it a bit stiffly, but you can definitely manage now.

You have the autonomous dones begin to store those samples in stasis, and bring them to your ship for later study. You also send more drones down to improve the process. By the second day, the drones explore tirelessly, taking hours to find original sample organism they haven't encountered. Most of the new finds are very small organisms with exoskeletons, but they still occasionally discover new plants and animals. There search area is rather small, and you're hesitant to broaden it.

In your observations of them you've discovered that the man they call their Shaman speaks several languages and various related dialects.

The nanites can work both ways, and you have a suspicion that this man may jump at the chance to have the nanites implanted, with only the simple suggestion that when you return in some time, you will gift him several languages you've acquired since your encounter with him. And a further mention that such a gifting would take mere hours, a spec of time compared to the years he's devoted to mastery of language.

This man is a treasure trove of information, right at your fingertips. But your previous failure still weights on you. He is a pillar of the community, and his loss would be met very badly. After what happened before, can you take such a risk? Are you really confident in your nanites?

>Offer nanites to the Shaman, tell him the risks.

Studying the humans for as long as you have, most of the meanings of the unknown words you learned from Tonapa have been demystified. You leave your shuttle to hover, cloaked, and your party of three drops silently from it, making the short trek up the mountainside to the settlements main entrance. You approach confidently, and are soon met by frightened warriors. Despite their fear, the group positions themselves in a fighting formation, stances low, spears raised at an angle. Their bravery is commendable, but you did not come here for violence, “Do, not fear us. We come bearing a gift for the one you call Shaman, if he will receive it.” Your sudden speech seems to surprise them, some raise their spears higher in sudden panic, others lower them in uncertainty, while a few remain unmoved; faces stony, resolve unwavering.

After a short moment during which you see Osdoros' trigger finger twitch only once the warrior at the front of the formation speaks up, “You favor us with a blessing then?” A look of disbelief follows the statement. “We will send for him, honored guests.” A member of the group towards the back takes off at a sprint up the hillside, surely to relay your message. The warrior who spoke up before continues. “I do not know who or what you are, and I do not care. If deception is your intent, I will not allow any harm to befall my Shaman.” He speaks the words, making it clear his own life matters not to him. You decide to wait in silence rather than favor him with a reply. Minuets pass this way, your two groups facing each other, without moving or speaking.

Eventually the man you recognize as the shaman comes down the hill, surrounded by dozens of the settlements warriors. He wears a large animal skull atop his dead, face painted. He takes a place by the side of the warrior you spoke with earlier, and spends a moment conferring with him in whispers. “Who and what are you? Why have you came to this place?” He finally asks.

You answer with the greeting you had prepared. “Honored one, we have traveled far to reach this place, we come from beyond the stars.” You motion towards the sun with a gloved hand. This brings murmurs of various intensity from the gathered warriors, but the Shaman continues to look on as if this was the only reasonable answer, and perfectly expected. “I myself am a man of much learning and wisdom, as you yourself are. It is in this spirit that I bring you a gift of much power and mystery. You pull out the nanites container, though normally a thing of function, a plain metallic cylinder, you had reshaped this one. It now appears to have art lavished upon it, most of the stories of their people that you had heard appear carved into every inch of its surface. You hold it out, expectantly.

The warrior beside the Shaman walks casually over to you, before kneeling with reverence and receiving the gift. He carries it back to his Shaman, who gives a it a brief study, his faces doesn't exactly light up with joy, but you can tell he appreciates this object. “Well crafted as it may be, the gift is what lies within. With this you can impart on me all of your knowledge of language. And for the true gift, at a later date I promise to do the same. You can learn in mere minuets what would take you a life time, if you take the risk. I will not lie to you, as most things of mystery and power are dangerous, and this item is no different. There is a chance you will not survive, however small it may be.”

He actually smiles at this. “A life without risk taken, is like a life without living.” What a wonderfully convenient philosophy this man has. Before any further developments though, you see the warriors eyes drift past your party, and turn yourself to look. A group of men and women in clothing similar to those worn by Tanapa appear to be ascending the hillside. The fact that they still advance lends you a confidence that you are yet unseen by them. A man, clearly the leader by the large feathered headdress he wears leads the group.

The group continues its advance until catching sight of you. They stop and speak among themselves, only continuing the approach when the Shaman beckons them forwards with a gesture. When they arrive he greets them, “Do not mind our honored guests, what brings you here, Tehan, surely it must be pressing for you to leave your village without the grace of your presence.” He gives small snort as his own veiled insult, before waiting for a reply.

The other leader looks on at you, but turns his attention back to the Shaman, his face changing from confusion to desperation. “You speak truly. My problem is dire and immediate. It is my daughter, she is gravely ill and needs your master of healing, or I fear she will not live.” At this he starts to quietly weep. “I offer you anything of my village you desire, just please help my daughter, she cannot even travel as she is!” The proud man falls to his knees before prostrating himself before the Shaman.

>Offer to bring the two leaders to the village in your shuttle, making a trip of days take mere minuets. In return ask that the Shaman administers the nanites before leaving.

[Extra Post]

You are Tanaka. Your brother Tonapa has not yet returned and it has been two days. Surely he is dead. Honor compels you to find his body and return it to the village so that the elders may guide his spirit to the afterlife. You suspect all that you may accomplish is becoming another meal for the shadowcat that has plagued your village of recent. You head out anyways and spend the next two days tracing your brothers steps, taxing your considerable tracking skills to do so. Eventually you reach a clearing, the dirt is stained with blood, covered in black hairs, and your brothers discarded mace lies ominously on the bloodstained ground. You turn to the hillside which bears the marks of an ascent or decent, and prepare to venture past the treeline dreading what you will find. The best such image your mind eye summons up for you is the corpse of your brother, hands wrapped around the throat of a dead shadowcat, even in death. It bring you a morbid grin and chuckle, but you dispel the worried thoughts from your mind. Entering the treeline, your surprised to hear voices in a language you do not understand.

Fearing for the safety of your village above that of your own life, you stealthily approach the noise and hide behind the nearest tree to the open clearing the voices issue from. The sight you see fills you with dread. Dozens of foreign warriors, half of them women even. The women carry curved staves, spears on their backs. The men hold larger spears, but some among them hold other weapons, leaf thin and curved like giant knives, ending in various points and barbs. The light catches on the tips of their spears and the sides of their giant knives. You must warn the village, a force of this size in the night could spell death for your people. You take a hasty step backwards, and regret it immediately at the unmistakable snap of a broken twig. All heads in the clearing turn towards you. The warriors wear leather, rings of the same material of their weapons tied haphazardly to the garments. Their hair is long, intricate braids with more rings woven through them are tightly tied around their heads as if a hat. A woman wastes no time launching a spear at your direction, and your instincts take over, dropping to the forest floor and rolling quickly into an upright position. Another woman raises her curved staff, and pulls back on something with her free arm. She releases and an object hurtles towards you faster than you can hope to dodge. The last thing you feel as you fall to the ground below is a searing pain in your chest. Your last thoughts are of your brother, did a similar fate befall him?

The Shaman face is filled with sympathy, “Rise mighty Tehan, do not let this break you.” he commands. The sobbing man raises his head, face filled with gratitude.

“You will come them?” he asks, rising to his feet and brushing the soil from his clothes halfheartedly.

“I will.” the shaman turns to you saying, “Our encounter, fated though it may be must wait. I have an obligation to heal the sick, and I cannot abandon it now, even for one such as you.” He looks as if he must think this an enormous insult, regret consuming his features.

“Do not worry honored on.” you say, copying the manner of address you've heard used many times to refer to the Shaman. “I take no offense, in fact I wish to offer Tehan here a boon of his own. How long is the travel to this village in the manner you normally use?” the answer you revive is two days of hard travel by foot, and you aren't surprised. “I have a method of travel I wish to offer you, as a show of good faith between us. If you wish to accept I can transport the two of you, and an honor guard of course, in less time that you will think possible.”
Tehan looks at you with distrust, but the desperate edge to his voice tells you he won't be hard to convince with a small nudge. “I also should be able to aid in restoring your daughter to good health, I may not look it but I am a healer of much wisdom.” you choose your words carefully. “All I ask in return is for knowledge of your village while we travel.”

“I can vouch for their benevolence so far,” the Shaman speaks up, “they have made no move to harm me or mine, and have presented me with an invaluable gift before you arrived.” All is agreed, and after a short trip back to his dwelling for the tools and medicines of his art, the Shaman returns. Each man brings their two largest warriors, still diminutive to even Ovellas' short 7 foot height.

You summon your shuttle, and it travels the short distance to your position in a few seconds, before uncloaking itself. There are gasps of awe, several warriors kneel before you as in in worship. The two men and their honor-guards mask their emotions, and simply look to you expectantly for direction. The shuttles doors opens, and you point in its direction. The men trudge forward, as if sent into a battle they know they won't survive. You turn to the kneeling warriors.

You're filled with pity at the sight of the men, prostrating themselves as they do; their poor tiny minds turning to worship and subservience at anything they can't understand. “Rise warriors, I am no god, you shame yourselves. Such things I show are not the product of divinity, but merely a knowledge of reality so deep you could not hope to comprehend it as you are.” They raise themselves up, some chagrined, others merely still in shock.

You and your companions turn to the shuttle and enter it where you find the humans waiting patiently. Their gazes shift idly from corner of the shuttle to to another, as if trying to somehow understand the new surroundings they find themselves in. “Be calm, you are in no danger here.” The shuttle raises, the walls and ceiling becoming perfectly transparent revealing the landscape bellow. You can sense the panic of the six men, suddenly flying faster than they've ever moved, seemingly supported by only air. Over the course of the last few days you decided to try the fleshy food the humans call fruit, and found it to delicious. Your drones gathered a wide assortment soon after to consume in the days spent observing, you decide to offer the assortment of fresh fruit gathered this morning to your passengers.” They accept gratefully and you begin conversation with the men.

But before you have a chance to ask anything important you receive a transmission from your northern most drone. It's been attacked by a human, or humans, and having been instructed to avoid the sapient, it queries you for the appropriate action to take.

You send the drone the specific voltage required to incapacitate a human. Trusting that from this information, the drones A.I. should be have no trouble discerning your intentions, you waste no further effort on these humans brazen enough to attack your drone. The slight issue taken care of you return your attention to the conversation.

“Please give me a description of your village, Tehan, we should be arriving their shortly.” Ovella askes the man once the fruit has been consumed. The Shaman makes a comment at her last remark, “As the bird flies, not as man walk.”, but says nothing beyond it, instead appreciating the sight of the ground far below, blurred ever so slightly by your rapid motion. The chief goes to speak, and tells you much, as if he assumes you would be able to tell if he chose to make a few omissions.

“My village, Arubeuta, has stood beside the river, Urubamba, since before memory. I took up the mantel of chief, as my father before, and his before him, a line unbroken for all time. Our women are gentle and caring, our men fierce and brave. I guide my people, of which I have two thousand, and of them I command 400 warriors. We give tribute to the Norte Chico,” he gestures towards the Shaman, who nods adds an 'As is proper.' before allowing Tehan to continue, “We take tribute from six tribes, Tohhan to the south, Wija and Tak to the east, and Quechu, Pana, and Machu to the north. We half the year to supplement our crops and the meat our hunters provide, trading dried fish to others for what we cannot provide for ourselves.” He appears to have some more to say, but stops upon catching sight of what can only be his village.

Your drone sends you a transmission that it captured five attackers, the entire group, and that they await you, aboard your ship in confinement. You land and everyone on the shuttle exits. A huge crowd has gathered around you and your human companions, they present themselves in various emotional states ranging from religious ecstasy to terror.

The crowd grows, and grows, until what can only be the entire villages population has crowded its way into the village center. Surrounding you. Suddenly a man in the crowd screams out his chiefs name as if it was the battle-cry of his life's most important battle,“Teeeehan!” before pushing his way to the front of the crowd with the aid of what appear to be his lackeys. He's large, several inches taller than any in the leaders honorguards, muscles ripple with his every movement, his head shaved and shining, “You go too far, you damned fool!” his words seethe with rage, he shakes from his anger, “You consort with demons and damn us all, like you damned your daughter born of sin!”

“Silence!” Tehan shouts back at the large belligerent man, “Hold your tongue or you will face my wrath!” He shakes in anger now as well.

“I will not be silent, the future loss of your daughter has caused a present loss of your wits. You shame us all. You've ran this village into the ground. Your father would kill you where you stand where he still alive!” Someone in the crowd hands him a spear. “I would taste your wrath you wretch of man, but do you dare accept my challenge? Or does your cowards hear fear to taste mine, it burns within me and I doubt you pathetic as you can handle the spice.” The silence which follows is deafening. Annoyed at the inconvenience you send the drone similar instructions to the previous ones. Far to brazen, perhaps these humans to the north need to be taught a lesson. You return your full attention to the scene playing out before you. Tehan and the angry man face each other, spears poised. You summon a drone from the ship with a thought as they charge each other, having it lands heavily between them before they have a chance to make contact, and snapping both their spears like twigs. “Let me handle this.” You tell Osdoros, and he just nods. Both men sit where they had fallen backwards in shock and panic at the sudden interruption to their feud. You walk over and step into the drones place between then, it raising up to hover above you. “Listen and listen well you fool of a man.” You direct the statement to the bald man who returns your look with a steely gaze.

“I do not fear death, demon. My ancestors await me with open arms and smiling faces.” His face though betrays the slightest hint of his fears, though.

“I am no demon from your myths, but a creature of flesh and blood as you are.” he becomes confused, as if he expected an instant death and is surprised to have not been given it, “I was at Caral, when your chief arrived. I was their to make contact with its Shaman, for peaceful and mutually beneficial reasons. I came here not to harm you but to help you, to learn from you.” his uncertainty is plain to see, you've attacked his baseless arguments, and its now time to strike at the exposed underbelly of his pride. So easy to manipulate, these humans, obsessed with honor. “You shame yourself with your accusations, to both me and noble leader, who came seeking aid and had the wisdom to accept my help. You shame your whole tribe. You shame your ancestors. What do you have to say for yourself from your place on the ground at my feet?”

>Roll 1d20 best of three to determine if you've convinced those in the tribe who harbor ill will towards you to change their minds.

You send Osdoros a mental message, a second drone was attacked. This time severely damaged. Take the shuttle and investigate this for me, leave all the shuttles drones planet-side. He seems perturbed at the request, as if hesitant to leave you on a planet alone after hearing something here was capable of damaging a drone, but makes to leave regardless.

You wait for the man's reply. One of his friends helps him to his feet and he gives a look filled with hatred. “I won't be twisted by your demonic lies like the others, the blood of demon-slayers flows through my veins.” he turns to his group, “We're leaving, anyone with any sense will come with me before its too late.” he and a significant portion of the group flee, breaking out into a run and pushing others aside in their haste. Most stay where they are, or are pushed by those fleeing. “Our 'noble' chief has killed you all and your too docile to see it!” is his final parting bellow.

You crouch down to offer the Tehan a hand, and he accepts it, two of your fingers being all he manages to grab of it. But he's soon on his feet, most of the crowd still there silently watching their chief, looking for guidance. “I would see your daughter now, if her condition is truly as dire as you say every minuet may count.”

He looks up at your face and nods silently, leading you from the crowd and further into the village. You, your party, and the Shaman follow, the honor guard left behind to disperse the mob of confused villagers. As soon as he's out of eye shot of his people he leans heavily against a wall and begins to weep, a heaving mass of spent nerves. Quietly he speaks up, “I thought to die just then, I could not have bested Ulnak in single combat,” he then says something too quietly to quite hear, you think it may have been 'but honor compels', “ My single shred of hope was that my daughter may yet outlive me. You have done me two great kindnesses this day and have my sincere thanks.” The Shaman has politely averted his gaze from the sorry scene. “Maybe he is right, I am weak, unfit to lead.”

“That's not true Tehan and you know it.” the Shaman speaks up, unable to contain himself any longer. “Stop feeling sorry for yourself and bring us to your daughter.” Tehan, having regained his composure, begins once more to lead on. After a while you reach the place his daughter is being cared for, and hooded elderly women bring the girl carried gently on blankets. They lay her on a stone table and return to their dwelling. The girl appears very ill. You use the considerable knowledge of their biology granted to you by Tonapa sacrifice to examine her. She's weak, her eyes dazed and unfocused. Her body is covered in purples and yellows, the humans bodily response to contusions you think. She bleeds freely from her gums, occasionally spitting blood into a cloth. Occasionally her head twitches and her eyes scrunch up, as if her head was causing her pain. Her temperature is dangerously high, these humans have such a delicate protein formation range. She's dying, there's no doubt.

You turn to the Shaman and his expression is bleak. “The sickness is one I've seen before.” he turns to Tehan and lowers his head, “I'm sorry old friend, I truly wish there was something I could do.” he takes a long pause, no one breaks the silence, mood gloomy, “None survive it. I'm so sorry Tehan.” he lays a fatherly hand on the younger man's shoulder. He looks hopeless, the light has faded from his eyes.

“Can you do anything?” he asked you quietly, “Or have I torn my people apart for nothing? I do not blame you if so, only myself for thinking there was hope. You take several seconds to think over your words. You think you can do something, but you need to know more about what ails the young woman before you.

“All hope is not lost, I may still be able to heal her. But I need something first.” you call over a drone and it deposits a syringe in your hand. You raise it up so that the chief can see it. “This is a tool I can use to take a small amount of her blood. It should be able to tell me much about it, possibly I will get an idea of exactly what is wrong.”

“Do absolutely anything you see fit, short of dark magic, if there's' even a chance she can be saved.” Is all he says. Wordlessly you position the syringe above the vein pulsing in her neck. Tehan turns away, unwilling to watch. You draw a small amount of blood, and the syringe closes the small puncture wound on its way out, its sensors going to work with the aid of your ships computers.

You reply to Osdoros that he should remain on the ship, you will meet him there shortly. Whatever this illness is, if you are to have a chance at fighting it, you'll likely need specialized equipment. You consider how to tell Tehan this and decide on an approach, “Tehan, I must tell you that what I do is in no way magic, dark or otherwise.” His eyes glance to your hovering drone, but his must decide against arguing with you as he keeps silent. “Regardless of the results of checking her blood, I cannot help her here, I must bring her to my ship.”

He doesn't question you on this, only asking “Where is your ship? Off the coast? I doubt she can make such a journey, but we will have to try.”

“No, its not that kind of ship.” You point skyward. His eyes grow wide, and he just nods.

Your ship sends back the result of analysis as Ovella gently picks up the suffering young woman, lifting her ever so gingerly. She calls over the shuttle, having it land entirely, before its doors open and she enters it. The humans have a weak, but effective immune system, compromised mostly of specialized cells which attack foreign bodies. The problem becomes apparent as you pour over the data on girls immune cells. They are far higher in number than Tonapa. This though is not the problem, its an expected result considering her condition. The problem is much worse. The cells themselves are sickly, malformed things, like a non-localized cancer. Your confidence in being able to heal her is no longer as great, surely this must have caused a myriad of problems that will all need to be dealt with, but it is still well within the realm of possibilities.

“I know whats wrong and may be able to cure it.” Tehan drops to his knees giving thanks, and you tell him to rise and follow you to the shuttle, motioning for the Shaman to follow as well if he so wishes. He does, and soon you all reach the ship, keeping the walls of the shuttle opaque so as not to frighten the Tehan's daughter unnecessarily.

“Whenever you get the chance you need to come and see this Igeos, but I understand if you wish to deal with the girl first.” Osdoros greets you mentally when you enter the shuttle-bay.

You head to the medical bay, the two men behind you, Ovella and her passenger close behind. They marvel at the sleek, metallic corridors fully illumined by a florescent glow that seems to come from nowhere. “You say you are no god, and then spirit us away to heaven. If you aren't a god what could you possibly be?” Tehan asks seriously.

>How do you answer.

Approaching the bay doors, they slide open and a medical drone heads to Ovella, reliving her of her burden. The drone carefully deposits her in an analysis pod, the same one which previously held Tonapa. It cuts off her clothing, leaving her naked, and showing the toll her illness has done to her emaciated body. The pod fills with oxygenated gel containing thousands of types of specialized nanites, which all begin to work in concert, sending their data to the ships computer for further analysis. This process should take some time, and you turn to leave with Ovella, telling the pair of men that they can wait here if they wish, or ask a drone to take them somewhere for food, rest, or anything else they may need. They thank you as you leave, Tehan taking a seat before the pod.

“What a stressful day.” Ovella says as the doors close. You agree and, the two of you walk to Osdoros' position, corridors shifting around to accommodate a more direct route. You soon arrive find a frustrated Osdoros staring at various monitors.

“Alright, here's the video. You'll understand how I feel after watching it.” Ominous. You sit and stare at the monitor as it flashes to life. The video is what the drone sees, with an overlay code scrolling over the video in computer code. Its a complex code and so only a few lines appear at a time, you have no trouble understanding the thought process of its A.I..The drones camera is zoomed in on a leaf analyzing its structure and comparing it to the other specimens your drones have gathered. Suddenly a group of five humans appear, but on trying to scan them, the video suddenly shows hundreds of errors scrolling too quickly to read across the screen. Four of them are naked, two males and 2 females, but their skin in wrong, its a gray color that looks like its not the result of the various skin paints you've seen other humans using. The fifth human is even stranger in appearance. His skin is blue, and he wears a strange outfit, like ceremonial robes. His headdress is a large representation of some fanged creature.
>>
>>259989
The humans lunge at the drone, and it follows the previous directive shared with it by the first drone attacked. It swoops in and pulses out targeted electricity. The humans are unshaped and go to grab the drone, but it nimbly avoids their grasping hands. It it pulses out electricity again, only for one of the humans to unhinge its jaw and vomit some kind of acid. The drones code scrolls quickly now in its panic, calling other drones to its aid from the area. The acid or whatever that fluid was, severely damages the drone, and it's flights becomes jerky and erratic. The headressed man's eyes roll back into his head and the four humans shamble forth at a much greater speed, wailing ineffectually at the drone with their fists.

The drones self preservation subroutines activate overriding the command to capture these humans, it unloads hundreds of times the voltage used originally intending to kill the four attacking it. Their skins burn, and they shriek, a shrill piercing sounds you would never expected possible for humans to produce. As the four all begin to move in unison, jaws unhinging all at once, the reinforcement drones arrive. They circle the humans pulsing electricity constantly. Finally they fall to the ground, smoking. The fifth human is nowhere to be seen. The damage drone, and humans, somehow still alive, are brought up to the ship by a second, undamaged drone, and the video ends. Ovella is shaking.

>Go to see the captive.
>Ask Osdoros what he makes of this.
>Something else.

Unshaped should be 'unphased'

Also forgot pic.

>how do you answer
"I am much like you. A person. I just happen to be from a place in the stars full of people that created everything you see in front of you. One day your people will make everything that you see as well. In fact, I want to teach you lots of things that will help you to create what you see before you."

well, we have seen what the human anatomy is like, so we know humans shouldnt be capable of this. Convey this information to your peers and ask them what they make of it.

While you're at it, ask the humans what they think. Leaving out the part about them attacking your drones for now.

You remember your conversation with the humans, Perhaps this is an opportunity to learn from them. You ask a drone to escort them to you.

[Extra Post]

You are Ulnak. Today you encountered three demons and lived to tell the tale. You survey your followers, somewhere between one and two hundred people, mostly fighting men, and their womenfolk and children. You're not sure where to go from here. A part of you says to just pick a direction and travel it, any place is preferable to this; your ancestral home now demon infested. Then you hear the screaming, and see people start to drop, spears and small shafts of wood embedded in various parts of their body. The spears tipped with wicked barbs, and glinting much like the demons armor, though the color is different.

So they will not let us leave, you will die fighting. You survey the camp, now a battlefield, and see no demons. Only men, men and women. You prepare yourself for the fight of your life. And then the spear hits you in the chest. You go to meet your ancestors.

I hope the humans on the ship will recognize the weird guys that are killing everyone.

You watch the video again in silence, your disbelief at the first video replaced by a sick feeling. Then a third time, the sickness changing to curiosity. “What do we do?” Ovella finally breaks the silence.

“Humans should not be capable of this.” you reply immediately. “We need to figure this out.”

“Before any of that there's more I need to tell you.” Osdoros interrupts your train of thought. “I know I'm not a scientist like you two, but even I can see that there is something seriously wrong with this.” He pauses pulling up some thing on the monitor we're gathered around. “I had another drone go and grab all the wreckage. Ran some tests on what was left of the acid on the plating the drone ejected. Your not going to believe the results, but here you go.” He guides my attention to the monitor with a gesture of his hand. No, that can't be right.

“This must be an error.” you tell him.

“I ran it five times. Its a miracle the drone wasn't completely slagged. If it hadn't explosively ejected its plating, then detonated its own spare power core to burn off any excess acid, it would have been, guaranteed.” The monitor shows an analysis of an acid. An acid with hundreds of chemical components, its electrons almost naked, held so tentatively that they may as well be. Its stronger than should be possible, but there it is. Its ingenious really, at least twice as powerful as the strongest acid your own civilization has made for military purposes back in the Dark Century. Sure a proper molecular disassemblment nanite swarm could cause more damage, but this is biological. No, you refuse to believe this is biological, something else must be going on here. “That's not the worst part.” apparently there's one more surprise in store for you.

“What could possibly be worse than this Doro.” Ovella asks, almost hysterical. The humans arrive and you ask them to wait for you to finish, they oblige going to a nearby room.

“Alright this is a little,” he pauses looking for the right word, “creepy.” He turns on the monitor and four human show up, standing upright, covered in electrical burns, the burns weeping a clear fluid. They appear to be in no pain, and their eyes hold no intelligence. “They've been like this for the last hour.” he says, “But that's not the problem. When I got there they were sitting with they're eyes closed. Seconds after I checked the camera's, their eyes opened and they stood like this.” He shows you a video of it, and its true, after the video starts they immediately stand, position their heads, only then opening their eyes. He looks to Ovella as if considering his words. “I've checked the cameras Igeos. I tracked all their eyes. They're all staring right at this room, for the last hour. Right at me.” he finishes and you're speechless.

>Vent them into space right now, you aren't dealing with this.
>Call in the humans and question them.
>Do something else.

Question the humans, there is no way I'm spacing these thing before I'm certain it will kill them.
>>
>>260129
Lets question our friendly humans about people that look like this (don't show them the video) and then question the prisoners.
>>
>>260129
it's obvious there are other aliens here and that their imposter humans are creepy as fuck. We should try to safely restrain and analyze one, to find out what they are really made of.

I'm done for tonight, I'll continue with whatever wins tomorrow. Thanks for playing.

I don't see how any of this is exclusive to the rest.

I can only write so much in one post anon.

I do try to write in player input as much as I can though, and will probably writing a mixture anyways.

We send Ovella to do this
>>260146
While we (the biologist) do this
>>
>>260146
Good thought we especially need to figure out how they aren't burned by their own acid so we can get protection against it.
