Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you got your ass beat, spooped some guards, and then reminded your companions who's boss.

It is currently the 1st of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

Resting a hand on your friend's shoulder, you offer a winning smile. “Now then, as for the terms of our agreement. Profectus, I have a very special request for you. I want you to get on your knees-”

He interrupts, taking a few steps back to separate himself from you and holding up his hands in mock surrender. “Hey now, Mik we've been over this already. I don't swing that way. I'm not here to judge you if that's what you're into, but I'm not going to be a part of it.”

You forge ahead, tone and expression equally serious. “-and beg Mortia to teach you what she knows of Nature magic. We're going into Elaudia, and I'll not have the two of you unprepared for what challenges lie ahead. I don't care what you have to do, so long as she agrees.”

Profectus sighs in obviously exaggerated relief, wiping a hand across his brow. “Thank the Gods, you had me worried there for a second Mik. Both task of somewhat tedious and demeaning, but at least I won't have to drown my shame in a skin of wine after meditating.”

You suppose now he'll be drowning himself in place of his shame. “Once you feel that you've made some headway, you should spend some time reading. I assume you still have unread books worth reading?”

He nods his head, scratching at his chin contemplatively. “Yeah, I've got books worth reading. I suppose I should probably finish off that Five Effects book stored in the archeota, or start reading that book on Water magic. Although, speaking of meditation there's something I've been meaning to ask. Achieving Grandmastery of an element requires that I perform some impossible final task, yeah? A grand meditation on the nature of the universe or what have you.”

“Do you feel that you're ready to undertake such a meditation?” Truthfully you were wondering when he'd ask about this, you knew he was growing close to perfecting his skill in Fire magic but weren't sure precisely how close he was.

Profectus runs a finger along the surface of his left arm. The black stone which covered it when you first pried him from that metallic pod has been stripped away to reveal the carved white marble beneath, and at the touch of his finger it splits apart to reveal the molten rock boiling just beneath the surface. “I think I'm as ready as I'll ever be. My recent meditations haven't really been making any headway, and I read about a pretty interesting technique in that Breaking the Ninth Barrier book you gave me. Weird book, incidentally.”

“It sounds really simply in theory.” The cracks on his arm seal themselves rapidly, the marble once again flawless. “The book talks a lot about how Fire magic is just harnessing the raw power of the soul and turning it towards either constructive or destructive purposes, and it really stresses that Fire magic isn't just for wanton destruction. So this method is sort of like a symphysis of those two ideas. Basically it ask that the practitioner channel Fire magic into their soul whilst deep within a meditative trance, but I tried doing so and I just ended up forgetting where I was for a while.”

“The book claims that when it's done properly one can temporarily elevate themselves to...” He waves a hand searchingly through the air. “Well, the word it used was daemotita, which I think was a word of the author's invention. If I'm not mistaken it derives from the Old Dwoveth word for a spirit, daemon, slapped together with the suffix for an abstract noun. Frankly, I'm not really sure how to define it in Rhynian. The description of it kinda reminds me of Fulvia's weird little pocket reality she can drag people into, but on a smaller scale.”

“Apparently it's a pretty dangerous process, you run the risk of destroying your soul completely. Seems like it might be a worthwhile meditation for when I eventually attempt Grandmastery. I thought to ask you about it, since I'm sure you're better versed in the nature of the soul than I am.”

You're a little caught off guard, this is probably the most you've heard Profectus talk about something substantive since you met him. Indeed, he's been acting a little odd lately in general. Perhaps his encounter with Spice had a greater effect upon his personality than you'd initially suspected.

>Suggest that he cease all experimentation for now, since it is so dangerous.
>Explain the layers of the soul, perhaps he ought to try channeling into his Shell or even into the Shard directly.
>Ask him to fetch that book for you, so you can read it before offering any sort of advice.
>Write-in

(Note: I've made some updates to the Companions pastebin. Generally seeking to quantify a lot of your companion's traits, gear, and the status on the books in their inventory. Not really finished, but good enough for now.)

(Additional Note: This is 'daemon' in the Hellenic sense, not the Warhammer sense.)

Basically, tell him about the layers of the soul but tell him not to meddle with it until you check the book.
Also tell him how fire magic really works, what with strings of reality.

Thing is, we channeled Metal Magic enhanced with Husk to strengthen the core and to channel our Divine Energy. This is Fire Magic, and it sounds like it has a different effect.

Honestly he shouldn't be meditating on nature since he is already getting penalties to advance. He won't be able to GM at this rate

Explain to him extensively to not attempt grandmastery by himself, as how he is now he runs a great risk of death or permanently being maimed by the attempt.

He needs to start expanding his understanding of effects and metamagic.

They are minor penalties, and the creation of artifacts that enhance raw elemental power should offset the malus; IE, the crown we have and the Mind+Inverse+Reverse Rings we can make.

>Explain the layers of the soul, perhaps he ought to try channeling into his Shell or even into the Shard directly.

I'm tempted to Ascend, but that would just be dumb showing off for no real purpose.

Btw, Soma, you forgot to add the metal martial arts to our Character sheet.
>>
>>212261
Here's a thought. As metal GM who specialized in Soul Reinforcement, if we Ascend as Prof tries his meditation, we ought to be able to greatly enhance his meditation, chances of success, and intervene if soul reinforcement is necessary. We can both feel like absolute shit together afterwards.
>>
>>212273
It's actually old-ish. I've had it laying around a few months now. Drawn by a guy who is very slowly, maybe trying to turn BQ into a comic.

Anyway, I used it because the other thread is still up, so I don't think I could have posted the usual OP.

>>212301
He won't take any additional penalties until his magic reaches a certain level, at which point the current penalty will increase exponentially by a factor of 2.

At least, I think that's the rule I went with. A little hazy now. Basically if your penalty limit is Master and you hit Master with one element, you get a -2. Master with 2, you get a -4, 3 you get -8, 4 you get -16, 5 you get -32.
However, the penalty applies to all meditation rolls to advance an element, regardless of what level you're trying to advance to. So it's possible for someone to lock themselves out of even low level magic.

Here's another thought. Since the enchantments on our body parts persist even after they're cut off, and since the tattoos are enchantments that have meshed themselves firmly into Mik's perception of his body, he can just chop his arms off and make use of the sustained "Contain+Soul" enchantment on them to imprison spirits. The Jury is out on whether or not said arms will try to strangle us in our sleep.
>>
>>212374
The enchantment our tattoos have are only partially effective.
>>
>>212385
A +8 bonus is pretty effective.
>>
>>212392
Not to contain a spirit.
>>
>>212394
For some reason, even though the jewel we selected to contain our little necromantic spirit was not enchanted nor did it have magical properties like the Anthusian crystals, it worked fine. Seeing if enchanted flesh will hold up should be an interesting experiment.
>>
>>212402
why not both? Just fuse the flayed flesh over the gem prison to contain any spirits.
>>
So, what would happen if we got Zahak in on this? Dragonfire and Daemonfire, what a combo.
>>
>>212423
everythingdies.jpeg
>>
>>212402
Gems are the better target for an enchantment due to being stronger material wise. Also the enchantment on our tattoos is wrong for containing a spirit.
>>
Reminder that we should get more jewels for vys batteries or spirit containers.
>>
>>212440

Not to mention that the flesh will eventually decompose.
>>
>>212423
It isn't daemonfire it's channelling the energies of our soul inward (since Fire magic governs controlling the energies of the soul).
>>
Oh yeah, maybe we should actually give that ring to Prof? You know, after Chryssa gave it to Mik to give to Prof and then Mik put It in his cloak and then Prof was knocked out and Mik fucked off to fight spirit wars and still hasn't passed it along?

While we're giving him jewelry, we should give him that Rhynian officer pocketwatch cause it's not like we're ever going to use their shitty time system.

“That doesn't really sound simple in theory, Profectus.” Darzi remarks, obviously annoyed with the elf. “In fact, that sounds pretty fucking complicated. Why would you even attempt something which you know threatens to destroy your soul without any sort of help? The Gods know Mikhael is a reckless, power hungry, inconsiderate ass but at least he has the common sense to call upon the support of others when he tries to perform some impossible task or another.”

He raises his hands apologetically. “Look, in retrospect I realize it was probably a bad idea. In my defense, the book didn't mention the threat of destroying your soul until well after it had introduced the idea itself. Every other method of meditation the book offered had not only proven safe, but terribly effective as well.”

You interrupt before Darzi can berate Profectus any further. “Bring me the book from your room, I'd like to read it before offering any concrete advice. I think, and this is just based upon what you've told me, that your problem relates to where you're channeling vys rather than to how you're channeling vys. The soul is divided up into three layers; the husk, the shell, and the shard. You seem to have channeled Fire magic into the husk, which in addition to being the source from which vys is derived also serves as the repository of your memory.”

He seems to be following along well enough, so you elucidate further. “If I had to guess you want to be channeling into the shell, which serves to bind the shard of divinity which animates all mortal creatures to the base reality. That is, the portion of the Gods' creation which we inhabit. I don't fully understand it myself, it seems to have certain strange properties which I've not yet been able to full explain. However, it seems to be the portion of the soul most responsible for altering in what manner the soul functions. If that makes sense.”

You can practically see the gears turning in Prof's head as he gathers his thoughts into something resembling coherence. “I suppose so, I get the gist of it even if the finer details flew over my head. Don't channel into the husk, channel into the stuff beneath the husk?”

“Don't channel into anything, for now.” You don't want him running off and getting himself killed, not only because he's your friend but also because you think you'll be needing that arm of his going into Elaudia. “Wait until I've finished reading that book of yours, then the entire party will conduct the meditation as a group. Just as we did for Chryssa's Grandmastery attempt.”

(1/3)
>>
That reminds you, actually. You reach into your cloak and retrieve the Hiacian signet ring you found so long ago in the abandoned fortress of Eshnuk. While you're at it, you grab that strange Rhynian device you found whilst exploring the catacombs beneath Nazir. You can't make heads or tails of it, so you might as well give it to someone who can. “The ring will repair the damage you've no doubt recently suffered to your soul, thus restoring your sanity, and I'm not really sure what to make of the silver thing.”

Profectus quickly slips on the ring before reaching out to grasp the silver locket's delicate chain. He holds it up to a ray of light streaming through the slotted windows at one end of the room, inspecting its surface. The hatch swings open of its own volition, and he utters an appreciative grunt. “It's a chronometron. Looks to be of Elven make, judging by the added functionality. Tracks the phases of the moon, positions of certain auspicious stars and constellations. Uses the Rhynian twelve hour time scale, though.”

He clicks is shut, sliding the watch into a pocket. “Thanks, Mik. The fact your people don't actually measure time in anything beyond vague notions of 'midday' and 'night' has really been throwing me off. Plus I'm sure my mother would be cursing me if she knew that I haven't been performing my rituals, hopefully this will allow me to get back into the habit.”

You're fairly certain Elves have any even stranger system than your own people, you know they consider day and night separate 'entities' rather than night simply being the earliest portion of the day as it is for your people. Regardless, you let the comments slide. “Right, well. Drop the book off at my room after you're done meditating with Darzi. It will take me some time to finish reading it, time you'll no doubt need. The ring works slowly.”

He excuses himself promptly and you're left alone in the abandoned dining hall with Darzi. She prods you lightly in the ribs to draw your attention. “You still haven't made your demands of me. I'm yours for the rest of the day.”

“Well I couldn't exactly bend you over a table with him watching.” Knowing Profectus he probably wouldn't mind, but you still maintain some vestigial sense of decorum. “Let's head up to my room, we ought to have privacy there.”

She smiles genuinely, wrapping her arm in yours as together you begin to head for the door. “I'm glad we're of the same mind, then. Truthfully I've been looking forward to this since you left for Marqash and I've slept uneasily since then.”

(2/3)
>>
A thought occurs as you exit into the hall, and after confirming that none of the servants are hovering around you voice it. “You never did tell me how Chryssa reacted to our being together. I assume it was poorly, if you're still not on speaking terms with her.”

Darzi winces, her arm squeezing around yours a little tighter. “Better than I expected, but not as well as I'd hoped. She wished me the best of luck, warned me that you were a selfish ass who'd run off at the first opportunity, and said she would be there when you inevitably prove a crushing disappointment.” She sighs. “I owe you an apology, in retrospect I never should have encouraged her to pursue you.”

“Nothing we can do about it now, best to just move on so far as I'm concerned.” Chrys is a resilient sort, she'll get over it eventually. “Now that we don't have to worry about our skulls getting caved in while we sleep, or more likely turned to dust considering that mace she wields, we ought to think about informing the rest of the party as well. Being forced to creep about in secret is dreadfully tedious, and that aside we don't want to blunder our way into Elaudia with a secret to keep.” Campsites are not renowned for their privacy.

Darzi frowns thoughtfully. “How would we go about telling them, though? It would seem rather silly to gather everyone up just to announce we're in bed together. I doubt anyone else will care.”

You shrug your shoulders, beginning the long climb up to the floor of the palace on which your party's rooms are situated. “I don't know, sex can change the dynamic of a group of friends. When I was still an apprentice, barely past my sixteenth year, two friends of mine started overtly displaying their affection for one another.” You still can't believe Hadia went after Derya of all people. At the time he was even more effeminate than he is now, you'd honestly thought him a woman the first time you'd met him. “It nearly tore our little group apart, since Ismail, whom I believe you've met, had apparently been courting the girl at the time.”

She dismisses your concern, slapping you lightly on the arm. “As you just said, that was because someone else in the group was interested in one of the two involved. I doubt anyone else in the party is interested in me, I'm certainly not interested in anyone else. I assume the same is largely true of you. You cling far tighter to tradition than I, and all the other women in the party are humans. With the exception of Chryssa, I honestly don't have a clue what she is.”

Visions of a blond-haired human woman flash briefly through your thoughts, but you suppress them. “Well, I can't argue with you there.”

You've reached the floor on which your rooms lie, and both of you fall silent as you proceed through the hall towards your door. Muffled pleading filters through Mortia's open doorway, a sign you take to mean Profectus has eagerly set himself to the task you assigned him. Perhaps you'll have Darzi seek out Mortia's tutoring as well, afterwards of course.

Darzi slips free of you and begins unwrapping the strip of cloth around her chest as soon as you've closed the door. You're surprised by how eager she is, the first time she seemed downright reluctant. You're glad that she doesn't have to force herself, but you do wonder what inspired the change.

Setting yourself to the task of unclasping your brooch and storing it safely within your cloak, you decide it might be something worth asking about later. You've only managed to get your tunic halfway off when you feel a hand grip you by the waistband of your trousers, pulling you forward.

Your shirt end sup tossed haphazardly to the side, Darzi leading you through the doorway into your bedroom. “Gods above, Mikhael, get your pants off already. There's something I want to try.”

You have a bad feeling about this. “You're awfully commanding all of a sudden. What's gotten into you?” The laces holding up your pants come undone, your boots long ago abandoned. They fall to your knees, and before you've even had the chance to pull them the rest of the way off her hands are wrapping around the base of your shaft. Seems you're not the only one pent up.

She bites her lip playfully as she strokes you to your full length, guiding you slowly towards the bed. She pushes you onto the edge of the mattress and gets down on her knees, cradling your balls with one hand while the other works you over. Her lips are positioned mere inches from the head of your cock. “Maybe I did some reading while you were away, maybe it excited my imagination. Just sit back and let me do this.”

Darzi takes you into her mouth, her tongue working clumsily across your glans. You're surprised, but pleasantly so. She can't take you very far into her mouth but she's certainly trying her best, pushing herself just a little further with each bob of her head. You decide to take her advice, leaning back on one hand while the other works its way through her long, black hair. Gods above you truly got lucky.

The two of you lose track of time as you thoroughly enjoy one another's bodies. Boundless stamina is just one of many benefits offered by a talent for Water magic, a lesson you quite enjoyed teaching Darzi. The sun has nearly completed its decent towards the horizon by the time you're both satisfied, caked in sweat among other things.

“Pani's blessed tits, I needed that.” Darzi mutters into your chest, expression blissfully serene. You're surprised she's still awake. Even you're considering a nap, and you hardly ever sleep.

Maybe we can use the shaping arts to remove the memory.
>>
Sleep's siren call proves irresistible, and at long last you permit yourself to drift off. Your dreams are undisturbed and indistinct, seemingly random collections of memory flitting through your mind's eye until at long last morning light streams through your bedroom window. You reside in a comfortable equilibrium, half awake but entirely unwilling to pull yourself from bed.

{Twelve days.}

The words shatter any semblance of peace you'd previously enjoyed, pulling you fully and irreversibly into the waking world. You recognized that voice, one of the three skeletal spectators who seem to so delight in meddling with your affairs. Though in some ways you suppose the reminder is welcome, you wish they could have at least let you enjoy your rest a little while longer.
>Vys Pool: (70/70)

You find that at some point over course of the night you'd shifted position. You rest on your side, with one hand rested upon Darzi's hip and the other stretched out awkwardly over her head. Your shoulder aches, but it's nothing a little bit of Water magic can't fix. Perhaps normally you'd be tempted to wake your lover roughly, picking up where you'd left off the night before, but anxiety has twisted itself into a knot in your gut. You've little time to consider either the softness of her skin against yours or the pleasant firmness of her exposed breast.

You have yet to collect upon the debt owed to you by Mahana. There's also the matter of Sadik to consider, you'd hoped to look one last time through the traveling merchant's wares before continuing on through the portal to Majhaya. There's also the matter of transport to consider. It will probably take you at least two or three days to reach this temple the Triarchs requested you explore starting from the temple complex. You're not yet in any danger of missing the deadline, but you have no desire to find out what alternative payment they'd decide upon considering the immensity of the debt you owe them.

You slide out of bed, giving yourself a cursory wash using water pulled from the air around you. Once you no longer reek of sex you retrieve your pants from where they'd been discarded the night before and consider what your first priority ought to be going forward. Time is wasting, as the saying goes.

>First you'll get some breakfast, no sense getting all panicked just yet.
>You'll hunt down Sadik wherever it is he's staying in the city.
>There's no time to waste. Assemble your companions and activate the transport array.

Exiting the bedroom you find your sitting area much as you left it, Darzi's clothes strewn with your own across the room. You retrieve your shirt from where it rest atop the back of a couch, and retrieve your robes from within your cloak. Once dressed you slide on your boots and fasten the coiling black cloth about your shoulders before striding out into the hallway beyond.

Only to nearly trip over the thick tome left at your doorstep. You barely recognize it, but scrawled across its leather binding in golden script is the title; Breaking the Ninth Barrier: Fire Magic and You. You pluck it up and slide it smoothly beyond the event horizon of your cloak, the barest glance of an ethereal tentacle brushing against the tips of your fingers. You should probably see about getting Ricky a goat or something, while you're out. He's been on his best behavior lately.

You briefly dip back into your room to scrawl a note to Darzi, writing that you've gone to search for Sadik and that she can reach you through the brooches if she wants you to look for any particular sort of artifact. You also mention that she ought to begin reading the Serpent and the Staff, deciding she'd probably get more use out of it than you will. You've never gotten around to reading it, and in addition to helping her with her healing magic it will likely help her in combat. You pin the note down with the weighty codex, satisfied with your work.

That done you finally escape the confines of your room and begin your trek through the palace. You soon reach the main foyer where a number of noblemen you recognize in a vague sense from the feast your brother hosted in your honor lounge about smoking hookah and breaking their fast. It's probably no later than seven in the morning, and already you notice one man nearly comatose next to a plate of figs and grapes. You pull the golden dish from the floor with some minor exertion of Vys, and it flies readily into your hands. Gods you love being a Vatis.

You're forced to wince against the sun as you exit into the main courtyard, but quickly adjust to the light. A brief conversation with a guard reveals that, though for a time Sadik was staying in the palace, he's since moved to an inn on the outskirts of town where he peddles his wares to any and all with the coin to afford them. You thank the man congenially though it does little to alleviate the obvious fear he has of you.

Zahak's thoughts twitch at the edge of your consciousness, a muted surge of triumph filtering through your shared mental connection as you exit into the city streets. Seems he's out on an early morning hunt in the desert. Unsurprising, considering how large he's grown. He probably spends most of his days combing the sands in search of enough food to fill his belly. You worry briefly about feeding him once you reach Elaudia, but then recall that fruit Sadik offered him. You forget precisely what it was called, but Zahak seemed quite enamored with it.

The pedestrians flow around you like water as you pass through the city, most going out of their way to avoid passing anywhere near you. In some ways you find it convenient, though the palpable isolation does bother you to some extent. Your new appearance doesn't seem to bother anyone that matters, none of your friends have recoiled in horror nor has your brother. That thought provides some comfort.

Soon you reach the city's main gate and the guards allow you passage without question. You couldn't miss Sadik's cart if you wanted to. The pile of junk he hauls along with him is probably taller than you are. You swear by all the gods that beat up jumble of wood must be enchanted in some manner to hold itself together even as ramshackle and burdened as it is. He notices you well before you reach him, a broad smile splitting his face and his arms spreading wide in welcome.

“Mikhael!” He declares as you draw close. “I was hoping I'd see you again! Good timing too, I plan to set course for Marqash once the sun reaches its zenith. What might I do for you, friend? Come to browse my wares?”

Please. He is pretty much the DMPC/Tom Bombadil of the setting. Dude has enough artifacts and sheeit to wreck Empires and whatnot, is clued in on current events around the world, and he bumblefucks around as a wandering peddler.

Really we should ask him about his personal life and what he gets out of this. Better yet, let's be hospitable and invite him to dinner - after haggling, so as to not be rude or anything.

We can ask him about shit he's encountered in his travels. Maybe mention the batshit vatis lady making herself a God that we walled off, he seems to be the kind of guy who could quietly organize some sort of plan or group of people to deal with it.

Or to just throw random adventurers at it and hope, now that I remember how he dealt with the Elven Warlord and that orb or whatever. Which might run the risk of bringing her out.

We should also chat with him about spirits and shit, maybe sound out hooking him up with the Cat since the Cat can make artifacts and shit and might be ableaving to use some of Sadiks goods, for his Dickcycles if not himself.

I don't mean running and spilling everything, just seeing if he's had dealings with them and what his opinion of spirits is. Maybe we'll get some tips on how to manipulate them, a better understanding of their nature.

Because I really want to dig proto spirits out of Suryas heart like that one parasite, and shoot holes in reality.
>>
>>214923
NONE.
>>
>>214935
Not sure if I want to tell him about the cat. I mean, he might go capture him or treat it as a hostile being. We know nothing about how he views spirits.

Might want to tell him about the water spirit with the dragon hear though. Doesn't look like we're voting to take care of it ourselves anytime soon, so getting him on it might tie that loose end. He seems to be interested in phylacteries after all.

Shit, maybe even sell the info to him for an artifact.

Ehh, I don't know. I call myself Catholic but truthfully I have weird beliefs regarding the Big G. I believe there is a force in the universe which is omnipotent and omnipresent, if not necessarily omniscient. I call this God, though I tend to picture it more as some sort of elementary particle.

The rest is wrong to but that's the only thing I felt like elucidating upon.

Hopefully. I think I should be able to sufficiently medicate myself to run.
One of my fever dreams actually gave me a really good idea. When Mik sets off to explore Elaudia, I think I'll sort of make time loosy-goosy. Mik and associates will journey through the jungle, and I'll reveal little bits and pieces of the map as they go along. Each post will be a day passing, or something like that. Random encounters and certain predefined shit will serve to break things up, and you'll run across ruins and the like as you reveal more of the map.
>>
>>215470
Finally something worthwhile.

>>215470

Sounds pretty good. Maybe you should start the time enhancment sorta deal once we get back and organizethe party. I don't think that temple of pani will react particularly well to us now.

I mean they saw us what? A few days ago? A week? And now we are going to return through that portal artifact with horns n shit looking like a child of surya with a party of a human, a robutt, an elf and our son.
>>
>>215557
And our carriage.

>>215302
Metal should be pretty effective, desu.

I wonder at what point Mik will realize that the forms of the martial art are designed to channel metal vys with particular efficiency? I wouldn't be surprise if the martial art gave a flat metal magic bonus at higher levels.

That's why I said fleshlight. Not vagina. A vaginas there is a good chance of hurting her or yourselfor if you just try to ram it in, assuming both genitalia are average size.

Metal + Nature + Effects

Slowing down our perception of time and learning to think of combat like a chess match.

Pre-programming subconscious triggers to perceived danger so we can literally react before we think.

Setting up a back-up personality in case we lose ours. Or, alternatively, get knocked out we can have a simple virtual Mik puppet our body to safety.

Maybe have an emergency Vys container hidden in our skull, or a crystal with a backup mind so in an emergency our body can run away, melt, and reconstitute itself.

I feel like I've gotten off track. Back to fighting and winning, mother fucking knife hands. Transmuting strings to monofilament wired and back again. Electric knife hands, stab a dude then shock him - bypassing the skin is super effective.

We should probably learn how to hide our soul at some point too. Oh wait cloak.
>>
I'm pretty sure metal magic can hide the soul.
>>
Can we just break our carriage into parts using earth magic then just form it back together using metal magic? Like what the fuck it ain't a big deal, its not like our carriage is enchanted or anything. I don't see why we couldn't take it through the transporter or even store it in our cloak that way. We can probably pimp it out while we're at it too
>>

Probably afraid of all the gud we'd git if we ever actually had the time to read and meditate as often as we'd like.
>>
>>216738
So what kind of monster do you think he will throw at us now? It must be getting pretty hard to keep challenging encounters without breaking the lore.
>>
>>216756
We know there'll be some snake cloacas who won't like us trying to obtain the Dhatu Armor. Possibly a number of tentacle rape plants too. And chances are we'll fuck up and unleash more horrorterrors from the void sooner or later. The one I'm really hoping for though is several dragons at once.
>>
Any bonus/malus to Martial Trance is determined by what you're trying to do. If you're trying to meditate on something in combat, you'll get meditation bonuses. If you're trying to cast some particularly difficult spell, you'll also get meditation bonuses in addition to any bonuses you have in that school of magic. If you're just doing it in the middle of combat you'll get a -4 malus, because Mik is still pretty shitty at Nature Magic.
>>
>>216788
expert implies that he is above average in ability when it comes to nature magic not crap at it.
>>
>>216792
Expert implies that he's more talented than most Vatis, but not talented enough to be called a Master. You don't get robes at Expert, since it's not as formal a division as Apprentice to Vatis, or Expert to Master. It's also Mik's second worst school of magic, yet paradoxically one which he uses often.

He'll get a -2 at Master, and +/-0 at Grandmaster. Fighting with your eyes closed is seldom a good idea.
>>
>>216808
Hear that? If we want to shock people with our metal hand-knives in a battle-trance we need to git gud at nature
>>
>>216894
Ever since we discovered battle trance, us gitting gud at nature became assured. Naturefags rejoice; earth is the new nature now.
>>
>>216760
>tentacle rape plants
Now I want to timeskip the trip to Elaudia.
>>
>>216808
You'really implying we won't while out our nature staff and fight with that.
Should easily push us a rank or two at our current level. And start using plants to attack. We could still cast through the the staff any other magic school, or does the staff only half nature magic. And doesn't have the ranged or amplify shit on the staff it's self?
>>
>>216808
Just wear the crown
>>
Just learn a nature martial art.
>>
>>217022
It allows minor plant control and halves the cost of all nature magic. That's the description.

There's clearly more to it though, judging by Zahak's reaction to it. The Serpent and the Staff might have something about the staff written in it. We should ask Darzi when she's done reading.

Man, our companions should really trade books on their own. Darzi's hogging all the effects.
>>
>>217026
We can't wear the crown with our armor.
We should wee what we can do about wearing our armor.
The staff of nature should solve that. Also we should get a one rank in nature then practice our martial trance. Experience and better nature should solve that issue. Also we should do that with Prof. Really want him to not be as shit. Better nature, and an martial trance. Should improve his training speed since he can slowly train up his martial arts while meditating.
>>
>>217043
Can we just... Not wear the armor? We're not using it properly anyways, only using it for the added protection and a bunch of other things we can already do with either Warlock or Centurion.

It should be set aside until we experiment with it some more, or find a manual or something. Or we reach 100 max vys and it stops hurting us anyway.

Wearing the regular Warlock armor or spending a few points of vys per turn for metallic skin should be enough for most things desu.
>>
>>217068
Can't wear the crown with Warlock armor either.
>>
>>217074
Hence the second option to spend vys for metal skin. Maybe with point defense for emergencies. Metal+Water should reinforce ice barriers, right?
>>
>>216808
Can we auto-cast point defense in battle?
>>
>>217083
I don't think we have the vys to keep it up
>>
>>217083
I can't speak for him, but so far, it's been A: vote to use a spell before rolling and get a bonus to the roll or B: spend vys normally to recover from a bad roll and it gets written in as fluff.

Option A doesn't go towards the spending limit but you lose the vys for a bonus you might not have needed. On the other hand, option B only works if your roll is good enough to recover by spending.

Auto-casting hasn't really been a thing outside passive bonuses from traits.
>>
>>217114
Oh wait, we do auto-cast if the vys cost is below 1 point. Definitely not the case with point defense though.
>>
>>217068
Well I said armor I didn't mean anyone in particular.
All of our armors have a helmet. So we won't be able to wear the crown with any of them.
But for all of our armors we need to try to get them on and have them adapt to our new bodily enhancements. So we don't have a sudden problem when we need to change armors later.
We could give away the centurion armor to chys. Improve her, and her defenses. But she won't be able to wear her sniper mask.
>>
>>217068
>Can we just... Not wear the armor

Second, I don't give a quartz of shit what kind of being he's classified as, and I don't care what his servants claim he feels about our actions. Nuts, beans they're both pratically the same.
>>
>>218567
Eh, it has its origins in either 160 BC in the form of the Roman placenta cake, or it was based upon a Persian pastry of unknown origin called lauzinaq. They didn't have quite the abundance of sweets we do today. Although the Persians are something of pioneers in this regard. Cookies, ice cream, rock candy, and various other confections all had their origins in, or at least appeared very early in, Persia. It was also uncommon for anything lathered in honey to be eaten purely because it taste good. Typically it was considered a sort of medicine, and was only available to the extremely wealthy.

Also it should typically have pistachios or walnuts. I've never heard of it having beans.
>>
>>218605
I'd rather git a bit more gud in soul mechanics, then 'activate' his divine shard. He seems too sane to be soulless, from what we've heard of such individuals. It's probably just dormant. Fire magic, maybe?

I'll laugh if Profectus figures it out before we do from his GM.
>>
>>218654
My goal is to GM better than all of our allies. Metal we've got in the bag, for Fire we're cooking up a stupid unique mystery box GM and only have prof for competition, Nature we have a good trait and only have to beat Mortia's neutered advancement, Earth is going to be tough but earth a shit and Chryssa's GM wasn't as transcendent as it could have been, but Water probably has a realy risk of someone outdoing our shitty GM, desu.
>>
>>218734
We know jack shit about what Chryssa learned during her GM. We haven't had a conversation or interaction with her outside of asking her to help us heal ourselves or kill shit for us in forever

>>
>>218970
Well then what do you propose we do with our water GM.
Become double water GM?
>>
>>218970
Do you think it would be a better use of our time to find a way to undo our GM, find a better way to redo the GM, then undo and redo the water GM than, say, just doing a different element's GM? Because otherwise this is a pretty pointless avenue of thought. Well actually it's a pointless avenue of thought either way since there are many other ways to git gudder without backtracking, but still.
>>
>>218970
i'm not sure what you think water can do?
pretty sure it just rots, makes ice and heals
>>
>>218943
Don't get me wrong, water magic is great. It's just we've been able to regrow limbs since halfway through being a water Master. Our water GM trait is not that great. +4 to ice, +4 to healing, both useful, but not that great because they're too specific.

Our metal GM trait, meanwhile, has a flat +4 metal magic bonus. Plus another +4 bonus! One that works across magic school lines! It's really damn good. And that's the level of quality I want to maintain going forward.
>>
>>218994
We met someone with a GM trait centered around making hot water. Our trait doesn't apply to basic water manipulation either. Or the more esoteric effects we haven't discovered which undoubtedly exist.

Also, rotting stuff is apparently just cellular-level freezing which is why we get our trait bonus to doing it.
>>
>>218993
Redoing it would be a pretty good use of time since it does locks us out of certain GM meditations.
>>
>>218996
>healing is too specific
how often is there a near tpk?

>Water trait not that great
>sanity fortified by stoic personality
we use water primarily to heal anyway. +4 to healing is excellent.

>>219008
If we can discover esoteric uses of water magic that makes it worth using the shaping arts to destroy our memories and redo our gm meditation i'll vote for it, but i doubt it'll be worth it if it's possible.
>>
>>219022
That would require reading a book on water.
>>
>Water GM isn't as good as it potentially could be but still effectively makes us ludicrously hard to kill
>experienced Fire GM and Water GM (among others) have both failed to take us down despite trying, even before we were gud
>have since accumulated next-level bullshit artifacts, armor, skills and techniques that make us even harder to kill and have basically facetanked godlings, eldritch abominations and other such enemies
>further improving Water is pretty academic since we use vys to boost all rolls and haven't failed a boostable roll in <bignum>threads

>we could git gud in myriad other ways (other elements, learning more effects, crafting/enchanting, etc etc) all of which would open up numerous avenues of action/gameplay and have immediate effect, even if not mastered
>players instead opt to spend their time obsessing over how to minmax an already pretty broken game mechanic that won't actually change our playing experience even if improved on
>>
Or meditating on the strings of reality while channeling water vys.

Books are probably faster though. Lets steal some on our way out of the temple of Pani we're travelling through soonish.
>>
>>219033
Here here.
>>
>>219008
That could be fixed by looking into the connection between water magic and the soul. We know the soul houses the self-image and what regenerates the body when fueled by water magic, but not much more.

After that we'd be free to do more weird soul shit as we please. We just wouldn't get a bonus to rolls when doing it.

Unless you had something else in mind with the water magic bonus, but honestly, hot water or water manipulation is pretty shit compared to freezing, rotting, healing and staying sane.

>>219034
This is a better avenue of thought, but let's wait until we finish Shaping Arts. It might have something on water.
>>
>>219033
Honestly I'm really happy we went with the healing oriented GM for water. It lets us pull crazy shit off all the time. Like rotting our hand off and beating other people with it.
>>
>>219033
Frosty does lock us out of certain GM meditations since they'll fuck us up hard most of which are Fire which what we are planning on doing next.

First I've heard of it. Care to actually present some concrete GM ideas Frosty locks us out of? Otherwise I'ma have to assume you're spouting bullshit.
>>
>>219033
To be fair, I was only advocating min-maxing MOVING FORWARD. On other GM meditations on other elements.

Hotblooded and Mutable are a couple. Basically anything that contradicts Frosty will fuck us up. Which is another reason why I want to learn how to remove GM meditations.
>>
>>219129
>Hotblooded and Mutable
...what?
>>
I think they're saying that GM traits have some effect on the personality, and that certain combinations of them could lead to a dysfunctional personality. Preternatural stoicism wouldn't mesh well with a hair-trigger fiery temper, for example.

They want to be able to remove traits as an insurance policy against stumbling into an unhealthy combination probably.

I'm not too worried.
>>
>>219140
Mutable was a trait that Soma himself said we could not get. Hotblooded (or something like that) is basically what the average Fire GM gets. Think of GM traits being as personality traits. If they contradict they fuck you up regardless of how much "reinforcement" you have.
>>
>>219191
Sounds like we'd need to be careful about choosing a GM meditation regardless of what method we choose since all GMs give you traits.

I don't really see a problem so far. It's not like we've singled out a GM method we just have to absolutely do but can't because of one trait or another.

It doesn't lock you out of anything, but getting conflicting traits can have negative side effects. Constant slow-rate sanity damage, among other things.

>Good, maybe that'll help anon prioritize copying the ring.
Taking any sanity damage cancels any sanity repair the ring does if it is not a full point. And multiple rings do not stack in effectiveness. So we're fucked if we get conflicting traits.
>>
We really need to get around meditating on some of our artifacts, clear up some of those [Hidden Effects].
>>
>>219283
Multiple rings may not increase effectiveness, but modifying the enchantment or boosting it with husk will definitely increase its effectiveness.

Also, if you have healing over time and damage over time, I'm pretty sure it doesn't just default to no healing but all damage taking place. It would be pretty stupid if it did.

The ideal fire magic meditation would be one involving imposing our will on reality. Rather than being about being flexible or impulsive it's more about being overwhelming and powerful. Such a trait would actually synergize with our metal GM trait and would be more useful than other traits in a vacuum too. I would guess that the best way to obtain this trait is focus on the divine magic from the gate meditation we did, maybe enter another gate. Try to obtain grandmastery through using our Divine Essence to manipulate the world. That book Profectus gave us seems like it might actually have good advice.
>>
>>219449
After reading the book on Fire magic, we should see if we can find anything about GMing via a Gate.
>>
>>219449
It's a bit beyond. http://pastebin.com/ibi8j7Md

>“These 'Children of the Gods' as you call them. We refer to them as Servants, and this is an umbrella term for all beings which serve the gods directly or indirectly. Separate from spirits, which once served the gods but do not any longer. Regardless, these most powerful servants which the Gods created possess a form of divine magic. It is akin to enchanting, in that it relies upon directly affecting the strings which bind reality. Fire magic can be conceptualized as the magic most concerned with directly manipulating the world around us. This is a debatable claim, but it is a claim we make nonetheless.”

“The insight you gleaned likely pertained in some way to this form of magic the Children employ. Directly affecting the strings which bind reality without using vys, or the husk. I imagine when this happened you were not physically inside the void, correct?”
>>
>>219449
The prophecy seems to think we should be heading through the gate and emerging in the realm of the gods outside the layered realities.

Honestly, if any one experience is going to inspire a method to do as the gods do, it's probably going to be that.
>>
>>219432
You could try actually fixing what's actually causing the insanity removing one of the traits not to mention removing GM traits would be an experiment so it would increase our Vys pool. You also forget that conflicting traits have other problems. Hell we could try getting a trait that gives us +8 to healing or one one of those meditation that give us bonuses to all water magic
>>219430
That would be ideal but unlikely because Frosty is practically the antithesis to Fire.
>>219449
Good point but we can't certain until we try.
>>219466
Or just use shaping arts to remember what happened.
>>
>successful GM meditations give traits
>different meditations will give different traits
>conflicting traits may have negative side effects
>if we study, we could likely create enchanted artifacts that negate these side effects
>OR we could get one of our higher powered allies to make/give us one
>or we could just... plan our future GM meditations to minimize the chances of them giving us conflicting traits
>NAH BRO WE GOTTA REDO THE LIFE THREATENING WATER MEDITATION WITH SOMETHING EVEN MORE EXTREME
>>
>>219481
We should wait until we actually have conflicting traits before we try to remove one. Seems like it would be both dangerous and less useful than just improving other schools of magic.
>>

Frosty is the antithesis to Hotblooded. That's what was said. Not all fire.

Also, all GM traits were stated to give bonuses adding up to +8. I highly doubt we can jew Soma into it giving bonuses for all aspects of it unless the bonus is reduced to +2 for each or something, which is unappealing to me.

Our healing is good enough without the additional +4, at the cost of the +4 to ice. Certainly not worth going through soul surgery and another GM.

The +1 to vys pool is attainable through countless other experiments we devised and the effects we read but never learned.

And finally, all of this hullabaloo is about something that could potentially happen, if we fuck up badly. Not an actual issue hat needs to be addressed.

And it's also retarded and backwards enough that I don't even need to be pointing out all these things for anon to never, ever go along with your twisted idea of what personal improvement looks like, so I'm done.

>>219531
Sleep tight, fampai. Get better soon. See you next month.

Say we wanted to use a GM meditation to go for a "calculating" style trait do you think doing a full scale Siege! game by opening several portals to the void, and then directing a large number of individual combatants to stop anything getting free would be of large enough magnitude (or even applicable to any of the elements) to work?
>>
>>219534
It wouldn't surprise me if the negatives to your mind being paradoxically defined as to conflicting things is worse then what you get from the culprit Gmail traits. Soma seems to come down hard on mental shit and conflicting gm mysteries being nasty as all hell also explains why people with 3 or more gm's are pretty rare.

Yeah, Surya is chained up, according to millenia old legends which we have literally no idea how accurate they are. You can't rely on the religious doctrine exclusively. What is it, 2, 3 gods that the religion doesn't even know about or forgot?

There is no reason to keep the stupid kid alive, and are you really so dense that you don't see the benefit of being on the right side of a literal God? A God with a resurgent priesthood popular amongst the military, whose movement is led by a messiah who truly may be prophetic and in communication with her God?

Stop arguing, stop being stupid, it costs us nothing and puts us in a better position to deal with a major faction, and there is no benefit to not doing so.

We know first hand from the Paramatma that Surya is on the outer layers of reality busy fending off incursions and metaphysically bound, presumably to Pani. They literally saw this and told us directly. There is no way that any mortal in base reality is going to stir up enough of a fuss to bring Surya himself to smite them. Because of this, the only downside to telling Surya to go fuck himself is if his followers find out that he hates us, the likelihood of which is unknown.
>>
>>223730
It really depends on if they summon his servant or not.
>>
>>223454
Based on what we've been told by the Paramatma, our tens of thousands of years old cat buddy, and the spooky skeleton servant of Surya himself, giving Surya the kid's soul means taking it from Pani.

Of the two, I'd rather be on the good side of Pani.
>>
Since there seems to be some confusion I'll do a little write up here:

People worship Surya because he's the god most likely to affect change upon the world. He is the embodiment of the sun, a distant and cruel deity yet without whom life could not flourish. Surya is ever-present, in a way Pani simply isn't. He watches over the Shahdom and the world as a whole eternally from his place on high, even if it is with the baleful gaze of a would-be destroyer.

He is also characterized as the source of magic, though an unwilling source. This means that should you want someone cursed, should you want their crops to rot in their fields and their wives to grow just as barren you make sacrifices to Surya. Should you want an arrow to strike them down, or a blade to cut their life short, or a disease to lay them low, then you sacrifice to Surya. If you strive constantly for power and don't care who or what stands in your way, you sacrifice to Surya. Thus he is the god most involved in worldly affairs, perhaps to society's detriment.

Pani either very rarely or flat out doesn't interfere in the lives of mortals depending on who you ask. Because she loves her creations, according to her priesthood, and wants them to experience the fullness of existence without any meddling on her part. This being the same reason she washes their souls free of memory and allows them to be born again in the mortal realm. There is no consensus on where it is her palace lies. Some claim she dwells upon the ever-changing moon, while others say she roams the space between stars.

The prevailing opinion among the scholars of the Shahdom is that neither god truly dwells within this reality, but each star is a piece of Surya cut away during his great battle with Pani uncountable years ago. Pani on the other hand maintains no physical presence in the mortal realm, and it is only through her works that she can be known.

Mik, in his interactions with spirits, various text, and the Paramatma, has managed to piece together a little bit more of the story. Surya dwells outside reality battling the creatures which would see the Gods' creation destroyed. Pani remains enigmatic, an unseen ruler of the universe with unknown, perhaps unknowable, motives. Dhatu is a largely forgotten deity dwelling somewhere within the void, either sleeping or perhaps meditating as he observes the world.

Surya either has servants under his command or spirits claiming to be his servants meddling in mortal affairs. There is some sort of hierarchy among the creatures of the void, and a Child of the Gods have been observed with a large entourage of servants and worshipers under its command, so either is quite possible.

It's also quite possible that the mortal perception of the Gods is actually based upon various Children of the Gods, the uninitiated would have trouble telling the difference.

This is a quick and dirty summary of what Mik has learned off the top of my head. Hopefully it helps in some way.

All of this is irrelevant because the gods aren't gonna do shit. They'll never come down and intervene with Mik. The last time they interacted with the mortal world was when they gave immortality to the samjan. They didn't even intervene when someone tried to revive prvithi. Mik is below even the smallest of notice.
>>
>>230076
Yeah, but that's because he's trying to jew us out of the full benefits of Dhatu armor. Let's wait up a bit, merge those two instead. I mean it's not like we can properly use the siege armor right now anyway.
>>
>>230111
I'm going to assume you're not retarded and are saying that the Al-Hikar armor and "metal god armor" that was mentioned once in like thread 20 are different things.

But we can use the siege armor just fine. It took a bit out of us recently because we wore it for so long and used it so extensively but we also just gained another nice chunk of Vys and it should be going up even more soon.

Lastly we could easily have the cat move the crown from the Heavy Warlock Armor to whatever suit of armor we want when we eventually find it. Which won't be for like 10 fucking years, you know it's true. Best to take best advantage of what we have now.
>>
>>230156
The Al-Hikar Armor is irrelevant for now. We're not going into the heart of Pa'vala. Not for 10 fucking years, as you put it. But I think we can get the Dhatu Armor sooner. We don't even need to return to Anthus, just interrogate some tribesmen in Elaudia. It'll be right on the way.

I'm pretty sure the Siege armor still damages us from lack of vys. It'll probably keep doing that until we hit 100. Which do you think will happen first, us finding Dhatu armor or reading and meditating nearly 30 times? I say the former.

Also keep in mind that your proposition requires two favors from the cat whereas mine requires one.

You're still not quite certain what to make of Sadik. He is certainly ancient and most likely powerful. You believe you asked him once about his magic and he professed to being skilled in a few schools, though you have the creeping suspicion he might have downplayed his talents. His vys pool is enormous, far larger than yours and perhaps rivaling even your former Master Karim.

All that aside he has the most peculiar habit of being in the right place at the right time. He appeared walking down the road immediately following your successful delving of the ruin just to the north of Licae. Your first meeting was likewise auspicious, occurring so shortly after your banishment and while you were newly flush with cash.

Belatedly you realize you've yet to answer his question. “Ah, my apologies. Thoughts were elsewhere. Yes, I've come to take a dig through your cart. I was also wondering if you had anything to decorate my horns with, preferably something enchanted that won't get in the way.”

Sadik strokes his chin contemplatively, considering the lengths of bone sprouting from your head. “I think I might have something lying around, but go ahead and have your look first.”

Happy to follow his advice, you step up to his overloaded cart and begin to carefully pick your way through the pile of artifacts in search of anything that catches your interest. You discard a hollow rod that oozes some sort of noxious slime, and a flaming sword so thin you feel you could snap it over your knee, and continue your search until you come across a small amulet with a pitch black gemstone.

There's a ring of gold surrounding the gem, which to your eye seems like some manner of pearl or opal. Gold lines also weave through the body of the amulet in which the gem is set, so thin as to be almost imperceptible. When you channel vys into the little artifact you're submerged suddenly and completely into darkness, as is an area of perhaps twenty meters in any direction. You can't see the hand holding the gem, let alone the cart in front of you or Sadik not three feet away.

You're about to cut the flow of vys when you notice a small mote of light drifting across the field of black, following by a second and a third. Then a fox-like creature with the tail of a scorpion leaps into view, also cast in stark white against the black background, to pounce upon one of the motes. It swallows the smaller creature whole, only to run off in the next instant as a much larger two-headed, six eyed, eight legged dog crawls slowly into the area of the amulet's effect.

It seems to be some form of the Sight afforded to you by Warlock Armors, though an inferior version. You imagine it may also be useful in combat to disorient an enemy, perhaps. Truthfully it wouldn't be all that useful to you, though perhaps one of your other companions could make use of it somehow. Mortia, or perhaps Chryssa would seem likely candidates.

(I think I'll post each artifact as I finish its write-up.)

Cutting the flow of vys returns the world to normal, and you notice that a crowd has gathered to observe the proceedings. A trio of boys, none older than sixteen or so, whisper excitedly to one another from their position half-hidden behind a street sign advertising the city's best kebab. A claim you very much doubt, having eaten at the palace for much of the last week. There's also a group of women who have set aside their burdensome pots of water and perched atop the sturdy clay containers to observe the proceedings. They chat amongst each other quietly, the tone of their conversation wary.

For now you ignore the onlookers in favor of reaching back into the endless pile of magical junk, and indeed that is what most of it seems to be. You find a metal tube which shoots little streamers of light which explode into colorful displays of magic, and a small bag filled with rocks which Sadik is quick to explain explode harmlessly when struck against a hard surface. You try it yourself, tossing one of the rocks to the floor, and are surprised by the sound of the explosion which results. It rings through the streets, cutting through the din of commerce. Perhaps useful as a tool of distraction, but no doubt a waste of gold.

Forgoing safety for a moment you reach deep into the pile of artifacts, by some miracle your arm emerging unscathed by any of the manifold weapons contained within. The item you retrieved appears to be a statue of a human woman, but rendered in a style with very obvious samjan influence. The surface of the pottery is chipped and fragmented in a thousand places, spiderweb fractures branching through its white surface. It has likewise been broken at some point and mended with gold lacquer, a practice which was all the rage some few decades ago and still has its admirers today.

It has been decorated with floral designs corresponding to the woman's hair and what would have likely been the upper half of a dress had the bust not been shattered at some point in the past. Your eyes are drawn to the enormous golden earrings dangling from the bust's ears, each one embedded with a large ruby surrounded on all sides by some thirty of forty smaller sapphires.

You think to liberate the statue of those burdensome earrings, to see if perhaps they aren't enchanted, but as you grip the first one by the base and begin to pull it from the porcelain lobe the statue suddenly begins to move. Its mouth opens, the fractures crossing its sculpted face shifting to accommodate the motion. “Please do not touch those, they were a gift from my mother and I'd hate to be deprived of them.”

The statue's voice is high pitched and lilting, while its tone is polite but insistent. You suppose you shouldn't really be surprised, considering the various constructs you've come across in your travels, but you're caught off-guard nonetheless. “My apologies, I wasn't aware. How is it you're able to speak?”

(1/2)
>>
The statue smiles, its sightless eyes staring blindly into the space slightly to your left. “Mother created me to keep her company and to help her with her research. I served in both capacities for eighty one years, keeping track of her notes, reminding her of important dates, and acting as a conversational partner. Obviously for my assigned task I needed to be able to speak, and Mother designed me with this consideration in mind.”

You were more referring to the fact that, as a statue, she no doubt lacks vocal cords. Indeed, twisting her over to get a look inside her neck reveals that she's simply a hollow porcelain shell. Still holding the head upside down you pose another question. “Do you have a name I could call you?”

As the speaks light streams into her empty head through her mouth. You find that, for some unknowable reason, the statue has both teeth and a tongue but nothing else of note. “My Mother called me Korinna.”

You set her carefully aside, not wishing to risk breaking the evidently living statue. “Well, Korinna. I'm going to set you aside for now. My apology if I disturbed you.”

“Think nothing of it!” The statue declares cheerily before settling once again into silence. An odd little artifact, the personal assistant of some ancient enchanter. It might be useful if you could get it to share what it knows of enchanting, but at the same time it may well just end up sitting in your cloak untouched and quickly forgotten.

Since you've mostly been finding bits and pieces of odd junk in this particular portion of the cart, you decide to take a little walk around to the other side and try your luck there. You don't get far before a long black haft sticking out of the pile catches your attention. You give it a firm tug, freeing from the pile a spear perhaps two meters long. The haft is crowned by a long, broad head sharpened on both sides, meaning it would likely make an efficient cutting weapon even if it is better suited for thrusting.

Nothing about it seems particularly exceptional, the haft is some manner of stone or particularly dense wood, and the end is capped with a thick, spiked bronze weight which is attached by a bolt. It seems like a fairly ancient weapon judging solely by its construction and what little decoration it boast, but the long strip of red cloth tied around the intended grip of the spear would seem to suggest a much younger origin, since surely unenchanted cloth would rot away within a few years, decades, or at the very least centuries.

You try channeling vys into the dark wood, but there's no noticeable effect. You try changing it up, shifting between Water, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Nature magic in the hopes that one of them will reveal some hidden purpose, but your efforts are in vain. Instead you turn to Sadik hoping that he might offer some insight but the question you'd intended to ask dies on your lips. Sadik has fluttering about his head a few dozen wisp of golden light, which flit forward occasionally only to rebuffed by some unseen barrier.

Glancing around you, it becomes clear that it's not only Sadik that has these little wisp following him. Everyone, man woman and child, has them. In fact, so do the camels which trundle through the streets lashed to wagons and the cats which dart between the alleys in search of their next meal. It's a little overwhelming at first. More so when you realize they respond to your will.

Focusing upon one of the women in the crowd of onlookers, the wisp hovering around her head coalesce in three places, around her knees, in a long line running along her left side, and in a jagged slash across the top of her head. You focus on someone else and while the golden lines on the first woman disintegrate into the wisp they were composed of, for the second woman they shoot forward to bring to light what you can only assume are points of weakness or injury. Her right cheek, her left elbow, and the side of her right leg.

A useful little weapon this, though you do wonder if all it does is point out potential points of weakness or if it helps you strike them as well. Not that you really need all that much help, you're pretty decent with a spear.

Setting the weapon aside banishes the little wisp of light, and just as you think you're about ready to make your purchases Sadik approaches you holding two narrow, golden cones which narrow to a dangerously sharp point. “These might be to your liking, retrieved from the deserts of the Pa'vala some many years ago. I believe they were used by one of the Children of Surya prior to their fall from grace. I think it fitting you be the one to wear them, all things considered.”

Picking each of the little golden trinkets up you slide them onto the tips of your horns. You'd thought they looked a little too narrow to fit at first glance, but as is the case with so many artifacts in your possession they seemed to adjust. That said you're not sure how they actually stay on, though they do. Even when you shake your head as vigorously as you care to, they stay firmly attached. “What do they actually do?”

Sadik shrugs his shoulders. “Honestly? I couldn't tell you. I've retrieved dozens of pairs from the desert but never had much use for them beyond bartering them off to rich nobles interested in collecting Hiacian artifacts. People don't often go about sprouting horns all of a sudden, present company excluded.”

You try channeling vys through your horns and into the golden caps. You'd never tried channeling through your horns, but it turns out it's thankfully possible. Unfortunately it doesn't elicit any sort of effect from the artifacts. On a hunch you try Fire magic instead, and that gets some results. Lightning arcs between your horns, a crack of thunder echoing through the now silent streets. The crowd watching you has grown much larger than it was the last time you bothered to notice, number perhaps a hundred people or more now.

The wandering merchant spreads his hands magnanimously, his smile wide enough to show off all of his very white teeth, save for a single glimmer of gold where one of his premolars has been replaced. “So, what do you think? Useful, yes?” He glances back at the other artifacts you'd previously picked out, apparently doing some quick mental arithmetic. “For you my friend, I offer a special price. The spear, I will give away for sixty gold. The statue, seventy. The amulet could be yours for twenty. So long as you buy one of the others, I give you the horn caps for free. I have more than I know what to do with anyway. Otherwise, forty gold.”

He's almost certainly extremely powerful, and could solve a bunch of problems if we told him about them, but then again, it wouldn't be very exiting so Soma'd probably have him be a Tom Bombadil type.
>>
>>232098
Yeah but the only time we know of that he tried to solve a problem it ended in the ritual murder of hundreds of civilians.

He's worse than Mik.
>>
You step up to Sadik, sliding an arm around his shoulders. “My friend, I think you and I both know how this is going to go.” For emphasis you make a sweeping gesture towards the horizon, canvas illusory canvas sketching itself into reality in the wake of your hand and black figures acting out your every word in pantomime. “You'll ask for one thirty, I'll get you to lower that ridiculous sum of wealth to something more reasonable, we'll go back and forth for awhile until we eventually settle on some number in the middle. How about we skip all that nonsense and cut right to the chase? I'll give you fifty for the spear and the statue.”

Sadik scoffs, folding his hands to rest atop his bulging gut. “You act like you don't enjoy the tedium of it, Mikhael. This isn't the first time we've danced the dance of commerce, I've seen how much you revel in prying every last coin from my fingers. One hundred and ten is the lowest sum I would consider fair.”

“Not the lowest sum you'd be willing to accept.” You're quick to point out. Channeling a little Nature magic, you try to get an idea of what he's thinking. Unfortunately your magic slides off of him like water off wax. Perhaps he employs an artifact to guard his thoughts against the intrusion of others? “Fine, how about seventy? Gods know you don't need the money.”

Sadik's grin widens. “And you don't need anymore artifacts, considering the sheer amount of magical arms and armor either I've sold you or you've acquired from other sources. You could probably equip a small army with the contents of your cloak. You and I are of the same mind, Mikhael. Our wants are independent of our needs. Ninety gold and we'll call it even.”

With a belabored sigh you offer what's expected of you. You like Sadik, but he's really no fun to haggle with. He's really quite predictable at the end of the day. “Eighty gold, then. I trust you accept?”

He nods, and reaching into your cloak you retrieve a small pouch packed with coins. Having Ricky means you never have to deal with the tedium of actually counting, truly an immense boon. Sadik accepts the coin gracefully, tying the jingling pouch to his belt. “A pleasure doing business with you, Mikhael. I do so hope we'll meet again.”

>>
You collect the statue, popping it into the cloak as it lets out a startled exclamation. Hopefully Ricky or one of the other denizens of your cloak will be able to keep her company. As for the spear, you elect to carry it with you rather than store it away. Your new artifacts safely in hand, you turn your attention once more to Sadik, who'd started hawking his wares to the gathered crowd. “I have a few questions to ask before I leave you to your work, if you don't mind my asking them of course.”

He stops in the middle of advertising those little exploding rocks you'd discarded, which it seems a few teenagers had taken great interest in. Pani have mercy upon their poor parents. “Well, I suppose it rather depends on the questions Mikhael. I can't answer if you haven't told me.”

Fair enough, an oversight on your part. “When I was last in El-Amin I spoke with my former Master Karim, who seemed to know of you. I also spoke with a... well, I suppose I'm not actually sure that it was a man, I think it was. They were an artifact seller operating out of the Vatis District, in a shop I'd never seen before despite living there for upwards of thirteen years. It's this latter that I'm most curious about, for he was a curious sort. Wore a mask, seemed ancient beyond all belief. Sound familiar?”

Sadik nods, leaning his significant weight up against the side of his cart. “The man you mention is known to me. We have an agreement of sorts, I stay upon the outskirts whenever I sell in El-Amin meaning his shop is generally more convenient for any nobleman seeking to buy themselves a trinket. However, as I'm sure you've noticed, El-Amin is a city flooded with all manner of artifacts. It is not exactly good territory on which to sell, because prices are so low.”

He shrugs, apparently nonplussed by the fact he's losing out on potential customers. “He's actually the man who gave me my start in artifact hunting, when I was still but a boy. Sent me out on all manner of errands, hunting down this relic or that in the near-by ruins or in the tunnels beneath the city. I have fond memories of my time there, but that was centuries ago. We are not hostile to one another, but we rarely speak.”

“As for Master Karim,” He runs his fingers through his beard, it's grown since last you saw him. “We have a history, Karim and I. We used to adventure together, when he was but a boy who'd barely earned his robes and I was little more than a thug with more between my ears than most. I wouldn't feel right telling you of his youth, knowing how staunchly he guards information about his past.

(2/3)
>>
Interesting, and quite unexpected. You really didn't take Master Karim for the adventuresome sort, and he never mentioned any travels in his youth. You wonder what inspired him to join on with a self-professed thug to raid ruins.

I assume you'll be flying out to the shrine on Zahak, so he's coming regardless. He could probably fit one more person on the saddle, and maybe a second clinging to his back. we should experiment with our armors and our horns, the heavy warlock armor can heal itself pretty quick... what if we make horn holes in the helmet, put it on, and activate rapid armor regen?

safe for the armor, and we get to find out before combat if we can actually wear at least one set of our armor.

if we go to that effort just for dumb helmet shit why don't we use the shaping arts and water magic to grow ourselves another set of horns?

You bow slightly to the merchant, briefly touching two fingers to your forehead and chest. “Until our next meeting, Sadik. A pleasure as always.”

He returns your gesture, and the two of you part ways. You head back towards the palace, the crowd parting before you, while he resumes hawking his wares. However, you don't get far before an idea occurs to you. What are you thinking, returning to the palace? You have less than two weeks to cross half the continent and find an artifact in a lost temple somewhere within one of the most dangerous places on the planet. You don't really have the luxury of time to relax.

You find an open square where a few vendors are selling street food. Balls of fried dough stuffed with various fillings, meat roasted on a stick, freshly brewed coffee, and fish cooked in any number of ways populate the stalls ringing the edge of the plaza. You attract the attention of a few children who are quick to name you the 'bull-man'. You ignore them as they dare one another to try and grab you by your horns.

Instead your focus bridges untold miles, melding your thoughts with those of your son Zahak. {I think it's time that we collected on the debts Mahana owes us. Would you mind coming to pick me up?}

His response is swift and tone cheerful, you get the sense he's enjoyed a successful hunt and satiated his hunger for the moment. You can't imagine the size of the beast he must have brought down to have accomplished that. {Okay! I was on my way back anyway, so it shouldn't be long! Do I get to ask the cat for a present, Papa?}

You ruminate upon your son's question, until a thought occurs. {Not a present, Zahak. You too played an important role in fighting off the hordes of his enemies. I think he owes you a reward, especially considering the injuries you suffered.}

The prospect excites your son to no end, and you get the sense he's redoubled his efforts to reach Nazir as quickly as he's able. You elect to order a little food in the meantime. For a silver coin you secure a generous serving of bhaji, a dish composed of onions, chilies, and various spices all chopped and mixed together before being rolled in batter and fried. The onion and the batter lend it a certain sweetness, which is well complemented by the heat of the chili pepper. Unfortunately the spices kind of get lost in the mix, whoever prepared these should have used more.

It's not fifteen minutes later that Zahak descends from the sky on leather wings, sending onlookers fleeing and tents waving wildly with each beat of his wings. He lands with surprising grace for a creature his size, though the ground still shakes as he comes to rest fully upon the ground. You finish off the last few balls of fried vegetables before setting the metal cone back down on the food cart and walking calmly up to your son.

You swing into his saddle gracefully and urge him skyward, only to steer him towards the palace rather than the shrine to the east. As he brings you to a 'gentle' landing in the courtyard your thoughts reach through the brooches to connect you with the minds of your companions. {Chrys, Fulvia, meet me in the courtyard. I'm going to be paying a visit to Mahana's realm to follow up on the recent war fought partially within his domain and I'd like the two of you to accompany me.}

{Of course, Dux Mikhael, we will be there shortly.} Comes Fulvia's usual prompt response. You swear she knows what you're going to say before you say it. Chryssa doesn't respond but you're not terribly worried, Fulvia did use the plural after all.

Sure enough, shortly after the end of that conversation Fulvia and Chryssa walk out of the palace's grand foyer into the courtyard. Chryssa says not a word to you as she comes to stand just before Zahak, while Fulvia is quick to greet you. {There is not enough room in your saddle for three people.} At least she seems to have learned to modulate the volume of her thoughts.

“Somebody can share the saddle with me, but the other is going to have to hang onto Zahak's neck for dear life.” It's really the only viable solution, the alternative would be having someone climb on top of the bags you typically use as a pillow of sorts, and that would probably be even more dangerous. The wind would rip them right from their seat.

Much as you'd expected, Chryssa elects to hang onto Zahak's neck. She pulls herself deftly into place clinging to his side, one leg wrapped around a spike protruding from his spine while her hands grasp two others. You scoot forward, and offer a hand to pull Fulvia up into the saddle just behind you. The issue of who rides where resolved, you urge Zahak to take flight and he obeys with his characteristic eagerness.

It's only once you're airborne and cruising peacefully towards the near-by shrine that Fulvia's thoughts once more ring through your own. {Is the purpose of our joining you merely to serve as escorts, or did you have something else in mind for our visit to a spirit's realm?}

Runes mostly, and maybe for assistance in the Elaudia. We might throw up a few shrines on the way in to use as bases. Having something that can instantly access his realm would be good. Since it's somewhat difficult to make yourself heard over the wind rushing by, you elect to respond to Fulvia via the brooches, roping Chryssa into the conversation as well. {Well, there's slightly more to it than that. I was curious to see how entering into a spirit's realm would affect you, and how the realm would be affected in turn. I also wanted to get Chryssa a gift, to show my appreciation for her help freeing my soul of that parasite attached to it. I thought perhaps the spirit might upgrade her bow, enchant it far better than I'd be able.}

For the first time since your return to Nazir, Chryssa actually speaks to you. {I do not want a new bow. This bow is a gift from my father, and with the destruction of my village it is the last reminder I have of him. I will not abandon it the instant something better comes along.}

Gods above but she can be sentimental sometimes, especially considering her usual lack of emotion. {I'm not asking that you get rid of your current bow, or even that you stop using it. I merely suggest that with Mahana's help you could turn it into a weapon which you would never need to replace. A weapon which never breaks, and which strikes down its foes with all the fury of the gods. It would still be your bow, changing it does not destroy its past.}

She falls silent, you assume she's thinking your offer over and leave it at that. After a few hours of flight, at the end of which you are amazed by how easily Chryssa is able to unfold herself from Zahak's neck, you arrive at the twisted lands which house Mahana's shrine. Just as before, Zahak sticks as close to you and your companions as is physically possible while surrounded by the magical taint of the void. What he senses here that leaves him so uneasy, you really don't know.

You don't even have to call upon Mahana to get him to drag you into his realm. One minute you're standing amidst blackened sands, and the next you're in his throne room. Surrounded by dozens of your shadowy servants. They swarm all over the hall, hanging from the rafters and crawling along the ground. They're like some manner of enormous pest, infesting the palace.

Mahana sits upon his raised dais, seven of those shadowy creatures running formless hands through the fur of his mane. He seems to enjoy it despite looking immensely annoyed, if the throaty purr rumbling through the room is any indication. Others are hanging from the boar's tusk as he tries desperately to shake them off, or swimming through the body of the water spirit you ended up recruiting. Both are in attendance.
(1/2)
>>
Mahana himself looks larger and more resplendent than ever. His scales gleam like polished steel in the dim light of the glowing pool arranged just before him, and when the light streaming through the windows above catches him just right you would think that his mane had caught fire. It's a powerful image, though ruined by one of the shadows deciding to crawl between his two front paws to better attack the tuft of fur around his neck.

“You need to get rid of these things.” The Cat's voice rumbles. His lips don't actually move when he speaks, they just part slightly to bare his teeth. “They are irksome, and no matter how many I kill more always form to replace them.”

Well, that shouldn't be too hard. You did include a failsafe in the commands you gave their commander. Cupping your hands around your mouth, you cry out so that your voice carries through the whole of the throne room. “Your task is complete! You are dismissed!”

The room fills briefly with black smoke as hundreds of your shadowy legionnaires burst into blessed nonexistence. Mahana is once again free of molesters, the boar is no longer burdened by unwanted passengers, and the water spirit seems mildly disappointed by this new turn of events. That is, until a door swings open and a featureless black head peers inside the throne room. Three more appear behind it, and soon there are more of those accursed creatures streaming into the room from the halls beyond.

Perhaps you should have thought this through in a little more detail.

You grab one of the summons as it walks past, which seems to make it curious because it starts trying to poke at your face. To ward it off you erect a block of ice in the air between you and it, moving the block as necessary to keep it blocked off. “Stop trying to touch me and go fetch the one who summoned you, I wish to speak with them.”

Your orders are ignored, and you belatedly realize that you never actually stipulated the summoned shadows had to obey your orders in addition to their commander's. Yet another oversight to correct should you ever have reason to do this again. You send the block shooting forward, slamming into the featureless shadow and carrying it soaring through the air until it ultimately slams into the wall hard enough to turn the summon once more to smoke.

Rid of that annoyance you turn your attention back to Mahana. “I don't suppose you could bring the shadow I put in charger of this disorganized rabble here, could you? He's the one summoning more of these creatures, and if we can destroy him there at least won't be new ones being made.”

The Cat shakes his tremendous head, a quiet growl rumbling in his chest. “I am afraid not, these creatures of yours elude my senses. Though I can see them, when I reach out to destroy them I cannot find them. It is like they are not bound by the strings of reality, and truthfully I find this worrying.”

He's right, that's concerning. You always assumed these creatures were more or less normal save for the fact they lacked souls and were made of shadow. “Well, can you detect any artifacts in your realm you don't recall creating, other than the ones I and my companions are wearing? That would likely be the device which makes these shadows, and if you could teleport everything around the artifact here then you would almost certainly succeed in snatching their commander.”

The spirit considers this, tail flicking irritably across the dais upon which he's sprawled himself. Then, with a soft pop, a half dozen or so shadows appear at the center of the room. One of them holds the orb, and at your urging he steps forward to approach you. He keeps pressing that button every step of the way, spawning twenty or more of his kin in the space of six steps. When he draws close, you give your final order. “Your task is complete once you hand me the orb.”

He hands over the artifact obediently, and then in a puff of smoke vanishes into thin air. You tuck the ball of ebony back into your cloak and once again cup your hands around your mouth, calling out your dismissal to the creatures which had once again begun to accumulate throughout the room. Though again they vanish, more just filter in. It seems a useless task, and one you grow tired of with astounding rapidity.

Mahana stops you after the third time. “I think you've done all that you can, Mikhael. I will not begrudge you this infestation, especially after all the good you have done me of late. I owe you a debt of gratitude, one that I do not think can be repaid with magical trinkets. A debt I owe your draconic son as well. Make your demands of me, and so long as they are reasonable I will carry them out to the best of my ability.

You have a few request you want to make. Well, perhaps more than a few but you played a pretty enormous role in his fight against the rival spirit. You deserve a pretty big reward. “First thing I'd like to request is an artifact which can transport me instantly to your realm and back to my previous location. Preferably something small and easily portable, which won't require my going through you to gain entrance.”

The artifact manifest itself in front of you, hovering in midair. It's a silver pendant, not much larger than a coin, strung by a leather cord which would fit easily around your neck. It's carved to depict two lions wrapped in an embrace, one much smaller than the other. You suppose it's a fitting image, all things considered. You collect it and slip it quickly around your neck, tucking it underneath your robes for now.

“Now, for what I feel is my largest request.” You're honestly not sure he'll be willing to acquiesce to this demand even after all you've done for him. “I ask that a portion of your realm be set aside for my use, and mine alone. For all intents and purposes a private realm nested within your own. It need not be excessively large, no more than a hundred square miles, but it needs to be all but inaccessible to any creature that is not either myself, you, or a guest I invite. I would also ask for total control over the shape, terrain, and all other relevant details regarding its appearance and structure.”

Mahana considers your request at length, a soft rumble spreading through his chest. “Normally I would never consider granting your request, Mikhael, but in light of recent assistance I will permit it. I do not do this lightly, a spirit's realm is all it has. Thus forfeiting the use of even a small portion of it is a grave decision. Know that this is the most extreme token of my favor I could possibly give. Allow me a moment to make the arrangements.”

You wait, and wait yet longer. When it seems like this is going to take more than just a moment you glance back at your companions to see how they've enjoyed exploring a spirit's realm for the first time. Chryssa is inspecting a waterfall tumbling from a a hole in the wall into a small basin where fish colored a vibrant red swim contentedly. She seems... entirely unimpressed, if you're being honest. You feel a little disappointed.

Fulvia is... well, you don't see her anywhere. You search high and low, but don't see her anywhere behind you. Then you turn once more to face Mahana and see her there behind him, apparently deep in conversation with the boar and the water spirit. At least, you think they're having a conversation. No words are being exchanged but they're all staring at one another intensely. Hopefully that's a good thing.

(1/3)
>>
>>233114
Seems OOC. She has the same "must be stoic, show no emotion, my culture demands it" outlook that Chryssa has.
>>
“It is done.” Mahana's deep voice intones from across the room. “I have altered the key to my domain such that it will respond to your intentions, placing you either in my throne room or in your personal domain depending upon where you wish to arrive.”

You expect to feel different somehow, connected to a stretch of land nowhere near your current location, or otherwise more spirit-like. That's not the case, but you look forward to one day soon visiting your realm and constructing it according to your fancy. “My third request is that you grant me a number of artifacts which I might collect upon at some later date. More than one, but that is my only specific requirement. I do not intend to request these immediately, as I must admit concocting good ideas requires time I don't currently have.”

“Mikhael, you ask too much.” Mahana declares wearily. “I understand you have done me a great service, and it is one I am grateful for, but I will already be crafting an artifact for your son. Do not pretend this will not benefit you in the future. I have likewise imparted to you a literal piece of myself, for my realm is an extension of me. That is no small task.”

You smile as charmingly as you're able, channeling Nature magic all the while. His thoughts reveal themselves to you easily, almost forcefully, and you're able to glean that his primary cause for concern is the fact you're not bound to him by anything other than loose association. You could vanish at any moment, taking his efforts and your assistance with you. Seems the words of his rival struck a chord. You wonder if he seriously considered the possibility of you defecting to the other spirit.

“I understand you've already done a lot, Mahana.” You need to calm his fears, and you think you know how. “However, consider my first request. Did that not offer us both significant benefit? If I'm able to appear in an instant within your throne room, and do not need to worry about finding a shrine or tracking down one of your disciples, we will not risk potential defeat in the event that I can't be reached the next time you face invasion. My second request likewise gives me a vested interest in the protection of your domain, thus further guaranteeing my aid when you have need of it.”

With a begrudging nod, Mahana assents. “What you say is true. I suppose in light of this your request for artifacts, delivered at some nebulous later date, is not so burdensome. Very well then. Have you any other request to make of me?”

You bow slightly, casting a sidelong glance towards Chryssa standing over the fish pond. “Yes, Mahana. My final request is that you alter my companion's bow according to her wishes. I would imagine those would include enchantments and the ivory from your boar servant, but I will not speak for her.”

(2/3)
>>
Finally you draw her attention away from the scenery. She looks without fear upon the immense lion sprawled across its throne. “Do not worry, my request should be simple. I ask that it shoot farther, with more force, and with greater accuracy than it does already. I would also request that it imbue each arrow with the essence of Fire in the form of lightning, as the bow of the horned god Aktaion.” She pauses, staring at you for several uncomfortable moments before continuing. “I would also ask that it project a field which negates any magic cast from outside that field around the user, if such a thing is possible.”

Mahana sits up slightly in his chair, considering her request. “A field which negates magic... well, I should be able to accomplish something of that sort, though I do not know if I can make it only block magic which is coming from outside the field. Perhaps you would like to be able to turn the field on and off, thus retaining the ability to cast in a meaningful sense but not exposing yourself unduly to the deprivations of enemy Vatis?”

She nods her head, clearly satisfied, and removes her bow from where it's slung across her back. “That would be an acceptable alternative.” He holds it up in the air for the Cat to work upon as he pleases, and in the same instant it undergoes a change. Much of the metal has been replaced with ivory from the boar's severed tusk, and near the point where she rest her finger a glowing runic array has been carved into the grip. It likely serves to activate the bow's antimagic function. “You have my thanks, Great Spirit.”

For some reason, the thought of Chryssa being immune to magic leaves you feeling deeply uneasy. As though you ought to start locking you doors at night, and perhaps watching rooftops for would-be assassins.

>She pauses, staring at you for several uncomfortable moments before continuing.

Well.
Time to kill her before she kills us I guess.
>>
>>233164
You misunderstand. She was uncomfortable because she had a huge crush on the horned god Aktaion when she was a kid, and Mik matches his depictions eerily well.
>>
>>233157
I doubt whatever Mahanna creates can stop husk casting
>>
-Chryssa's Compound Bow (+12 Ranged Attack, +4 to Fire Magic, Chance for attacks to chain to near-by enemies, can project a field which negates all magic on command)
Updated the companion paste.
>>
>>233169
>all magic
Even enchantments?
>>
>>233170
Enchantments affect the strings of reality, so I'd think it wouldn't.
>>
I ask that someone at the beginning of the next thread suggests trying to remove all meseeks again by having our voice projected across the realm.

>>233142
Thank you for the thread.
>>
>>233170
Well, that's something of a grey area. Presumably if one was using an enchanted blade which imbued poison into each strike that would still function so long as it could actually hit her.

A blade like your shockwave sword though, which sent out destructive waves of vys, would be pretty much useless.
>>
>>233169
>Chance for attacks to chain to near-by enemies
Yikes. Ricochet Arrows or Aoe Explosion?
>>
>>233169
I’m a bit worried that the anti-magic was done as a field effect, instead of a barrier. Would have seemed closer to what Chryssa wanted (i.e. protection from outside magic, while still being capable of casting inside.
>>
>>233173
What about creating icespears and throwing them at her?
>>
>>233177
That'd work, it does nothing to stop momentum.
She's got pretty good armor though.
Chryssa's Armor (+6 to Attack, +6 to Soak, Telescoping Vision, Magic Sight, Spell Amplification, Improves Health (Passive), Hazmat (Active), Self-Repairing (Active), Hidden Effects)

Also I think her cumulative bonus to archery is like, above thirty at this point. It's pretty ridiculous.
>>
>>233173
So basically it negates vys-based magic around her like camo to prevent detection via vys. Doesn't stop magic that rely upon physical objects like rocks and ice spears though. Is that right?
>>
>>233179
>+30 to archery
What the fuck. From what?
>>
>>233173
Well it's good to know we wouldn't be left completely helpless.

What would the penalty for doing something dumb like dual-wielding our spears be?
>>
Damn
Just a reminder, Chrys is pissed because of a nat 1
It's entirely possible that Soma will have her try to kill us
>>
>>233179
Figures everyone would vote to buff the companion most likely to slit our throat in our sleep.
>>
>>233179
So if she were to fire an arrow at some unfortunate sap with full bonuses, what her max effective range?
>>
>>233185
I'd have been worried previously, but so long as we aren't caught unaware we can always pop Awakened.
Seven turns should be enough to kill her.
>>
>>233182
>+12 from Bow
>+8 from Combat Style
>+6 from Telescopic Vision
>+8 from Impossibly Strong
>+6 from Armor
So, assuming I got everything, that's a total of +40.
Like, shoot the wings of a fly at a hundred yards level of skill.
>>
>>233191
One turn is enough, considering we could just rip a hole in reality and hurl her through it.
>>
>>233195
Okay. Good thing the bow doesn't do that much damage, right?
>>
>>233199

>>
>>233195
This is the best parallel comparison pic I could find in regards to Chrys's proficiency to archery/sniping.
>>
>>233199
It shoots lightning, so it does damage comparable to Surya's Vice.
I should probably make note of that on the pastebin. I also need to add her combat style.
>>
>>233199
also, Soma has stated on his tumblr that an arrow to the head would probably kill us
>>
>>233195
We should get Chryssa horn caps like ours
>>

>>
>>233208
Crunch. Snapped. Neck.
>>
>>233210

>>
>>233208
Given that the Children of Surya were around for a while, there is probably a legitimate combat style incorporating horns.
>>
>>233210
Metal and Water.
>>
I also finally added her Martial Style to the list:
-Polopian Hunter (Master): (+8 to Bows and Unarmed, +6 to Daggers and Axes, +4 to Long and Short Blades)
>>
>>233185
Oh if only if her "husband" was actually dead at this point, she would've considered trying polygamy. But noo~ she's still a monogamist and salty with a vengence.
>>
>>233217
Say. Mik wouldn't have gotten knowledge of her skill, like, at random. She's totally gonna try out her bow by shooting a random Meseeks 2 kilos away and then giving Mik another meaningful look, right?
>>
>>233217
We really gotta focus more on our other companions. I think Chryssa is plenty stacked now.
Should we focus on Profectus next?
>>
>>233224
I think Prof is doing pretty good, we just need to research his plan for his gm meditation, and follow up with teaching him the shaping arts
>>
>>233224
For Chrys combat-wise yes, social links with Chrys on the other hand.... the bridge needs some rebuilding.
>>
>>233223
Well, she IS gonna try out her bow, but Mik has seen her shoot before.
She shot a guardsmen off a ledge silently from several hundred yards away, took him right through the head.
She also shot a bandit who threatened to reveal Mik to an entire camp of slavers through the throat from a thousand or more yards before he could send up a cry.
>>
>>233226
The bridge has been reduced to ash, the ashes pissed on, the soggy ashes scrapped up and thrown across the gap along with a hardy fuck you
>>
>>233223
>Mik And Meeseeks' Shooting Range
>>
>>233226
the last time we tried to rebuild the bridge a tank rolled over it and aimed a HEAT round at us.
>>
>>233232
I mean, she has saved our ass in the bandit camp and helped us with the Void Entity even before now. We did make her bow a legendary tier weapon here now in gratitude. The relationship could be worse. Then again, we are also fucking her best friend. Let's call it a wash.
>>
We should have a spar with Chryssa. I'm sure we will survive even her full power as long as she doesn't use the mace. It should calm her down a bit.
>>
>>233240
We did let her fuck around with our soul, and she didn't use the opportunity to kill us, but that long look has me suspicious.
Though I suppose it is entirely possible that the long look was her considering having to fight a vatis of our relative strength, or even fighting us if we go insane

>>233240
This is what we reap from this ridiculous waifu war. This is why we can never have nice things in the waifu department.
>>
>>233252
Wait. She might have just used this on us.

-Touched by Madness: Chryssa can sense innately how close someone is to losing their marbles entirely.
>>
>>233257
the 'innately' makes me think that it wouldn't take a long stare for that to work, rather that she would just immediately know.
>>
>>233248
>as long as she doesn't use the mace
Isn't Metal more or less the counter to Earth?
Combined with Water, we should be able to handle it.
>>
>>233248
I kinda like this idea. This would help us train against an opponent who outclasses us in the str department in melee range.
>>
>>233227
Hey Soma!
Would a double gm meditation be possible?
As in two separate elements at once?
How would that impact the perks?
Also, what would happen if two people did the same gm meditation together?

>>
>>233259
>>233257
might as well re-name that skill as "Disconcerting ogle" whenever she does that. That stare is very uncomfortable if she has to stare that long just to see someone's sanity meter.
>>
>>233268
Soma will drink himself to the grave long before we can finish such a thing.
>>
>>233268
We also already own one sorta.

We should rip that teleporter out of the ground and shove it in our chunk of Mahana's realm.
>>
>>233272
This thing is literally useless though
>>
>>233267
In theory that would be possible, assuming both elements were at 4/5 insights towards GM.
They would need to be complementary elements. Like Nature and Water, or Earth and Metal. Couldn't do it with Fire.
I couldn't really say much about the perk other than that it would be split between the two elements, likely offering half the maximum bonus to one and half to the other. Specifics depend on the meditation. I think in the long run you might be better off GMing them both separately, if your only goal was power.
You would be guaranteed no conflicting personality traits though.

Two people trying to GM at the same time isn't unusual, it's actually pretty common practice. They'd just both perform the meditation simultaneously, perhaps helping one another or perhaps remaining entirely separate. Depends.
>>
>>233276
Puts us in prime position to attack Mahana, though.

Should have just asked for a mobile teleportation artefact to the enchanter’s palace we got.
>>
>>233280
why are we plotting to attack mahana in the first place?
>>
>>233276
Good place to experiment with the strings of reality.
And if we can use the teleporter to carry people with us it could be pretty useful.
>>
>>233252
The only reason she didn't kill us then is because our companions were watching.
>>
>>233277
what's Mik's sanity meter at?
I know Chrys' disconcerting ogle is meant to let her know if Mik's close to losing his marbles, but I get the feeling she's gonna use the numbers to come up with an excuse to justify salty murder.

Which is part of the reason I want Mahana to do it. He can probably operate it better than Mikhael. Perhaps even improve the artifact further.

Also, magic stuff has a sort of blue fake-soul, so it might be considered people
>>

We'll have to bring this up at the beginning of the next thread though.

We should definitely bring this up before leaving Mahana's realm.

We really need to get Chryssa's help making enchanted items. She seems better at it than we usually are. Also, I'm guessing she wants those enchantments in case she has to put us down if we get too insane. She is dangerously intelligent.

Bah, she a shit. All we need is to copy the sanity ring and neither Mik nor anyone else in the party will have to be put down ever. Besides, we've chosen Master Karim as the person to pass enchanting to. Two is probably enough people. You know what happens to countries with wide-spread enchanting. Gotta keep that shit under wraps.

So while I'm brainstorming, here's some things to do next thread:

>Create an enchanting room in Hotel Mahana.

With magnifiers and micro-engravers and a sensory deprivation chamber for that sweet enchanting bonus. Some help with ideas from other anons and the bonuses should add up to something that would easily let us fully understand and/or copy any artifact we have.

Half a day's work would let us uncover every function of our armors, or the Seed Amulet, or the Prism. Maybe Siege Armor has a dial to tone down the harmful vys flow. Maybe we can fully repair the talking head we just abandoned in Ricky's rape den so she can walk around and be actually helpful. Maybe we find out how to replicate what makes our ancient dagger so special.

>Have Zahak ask for his favor or save it, offer advice.

>Ask Fulvia if she wants anything; she's worth a favor and she's right here.
Some help from the spirits might help us reprogram her the way she wishes to be. GM water and metal we can do without wasting a favor, but what if Mahana is actually good enough to merge Fulvia and the image of the woman she was meant to be, or provide us the means to do it? We know she has countless limiters that rob her of freedom. What if Mahana's understanding is what we need to help her become a real person.

>Check out the lock to that vault, see if we can't delete it after all.

We didn't get a good look the first time around. And creative thinking might allow us to circumvent it even if we can't delete it. For instance, if we figure out the rotation of the void around the base reality, we could enter and leave the void and end up inside the vault.

>Spend a favor on a universal translator

Because I really want to talk to Ricky. And dragons and stuff, but mainly Ricky. He a best.

>Ask Mahana which gems would be best for enchanting.

I actually want to ask which would be best for trapping spirits, but that might give him the wrong impression, to say the least. Minor spirits? Gotta catch 'em all!

>Create those gems, along with a fuckton of money to see if we can take things out of the realm.

90% chance it doesn't work, but why not try it anyway? What could possibly go wrong? :^)

Honestly, if push comes to shove, Mik can just draw out all the vys and husk from his belongings and just dump it in front of him. He can handle the void beings. Few others can. It's like the perfect smoke bomb.

>>Create an enchanting room in Hotel Mahana.
I would like to point out we already have a fully equipped Enchanting room in our mansion. It would b much easier for Mahanna to either link it to our realm or copy it there.
>>

Except that's wrong, you dummy.

I never said anything about teaching her to enchant, dumbass. Just have her help coming up with enchantment ideas.

Except it's not.

Except it totally is.

Look, you retard, we don't have a sensory deprivation chamber and we can't teleport into it as we wish. So either prove it or fuck off.

We're a water gm, we can make the wider world a sensory deprivation chamber if we wanted- just destroy our senses.

First off, rotting off your eyeballs and nose and tongue is not going to help you meditate on shit. Secondly, water magic can't disable your sense of touch.

Floating in a dense water solution with the water and air matching your body temperature eventually leads you to forget your body's boundaries. It does weird shit to your sense of touch, your sense of self, your sense of weight and balance, of temperature, probably more. People have a ton more senses than the basic five, and when you eliminate enough of them, your mind does some weird shit. Go read up on it, you uneducated philistine.

The morphable spirit realm also allows us previously impossible visual clarity. We can rig up a microscope by fucking with the placement and shapes of a few magnifiers and perceive matter at a cellular level. We can take a gemstone and carve runes into the individual crystals and impurities with earth magic. We can analyze organic tissues at a cellular level to git mad gud at anatomy. We can achieve Skull Kid-tier understanding of any substance we examine and how it behaves under magic. It opens up so many possibilities. And it lets us use the Create effect extremely cheaply as a bonus.

Not to mention all the insights we can get into earth magic if we manage to magnify things even more to see how matter holds itself together physically, since that's what earth seems to be about. We can look at physical vys under a microscope. But these things never occurred to you, did it? Because you have zero imagination, apparently. I'll reiterate: Fuck. Off.

You have a lot of good points and ideas. You'd get more support for them if you present them more diplomatically. No one has insulted you. You're the one introducing hostility and sharpening the tone of the conversation.

>>234821
What are you, some kind of faggot?
>>

Quests are a democracy. Even if your ideas are good, you'll need anon support to acknowledge them up, most crucially in introducing them to the quest as a thought of Mik and in voting for them when the time comes. While the feeling of vaguely pissing off other anonymous people is surely satisfying to you personally, it'll make you look like an ass and cause your ideas to be linked to "ass hole players," even more so today when everyone has an ID.

Sorry for hurting your feelings, anon. I shouldn't have assumed you like it rough just because your mother does.

You don't get to call people out on being immature by out-immaturing them with a single post, shithead. No, I'm not 12. But I am posting in a dead thread on 4chan. This is how it works. If you can't handle it, (read my lips!) fuck off.
