For untold generations, your people have lived in fear of the dangerous creatures that roam this land. Some can breathe fire, or shoot lightning. Your tribe has had to fight and stay on the run just to survive.

But you, the leader of your tribe, have managed to befriend a single monster. With this one step, your people have taken a great leap forward. If you can tame one of these creatures, then you can tame more. And your people will no longer have to live in fear.

>Welcome to PokeCiv. You will be playing as the leader of a prehistoric tribe in a world filled with Pokemon.

>Decide the name of your tribe and its leader.

>Choose what type of Pokemon is the one you have first befriended. It must be unevolved, and relatively small. It cannot be a fossil Pokemon, or a Pokemon that is manmade or based on a manmade object. I reserve the right to veto a suggestion if I find it unsuitable.

>Choose where your tribe currently lives, in a biome suitable to your chosen Pokemon.

>Once these first decisions are made, I'll lay out the Civ specifics.

>Remember to have fun!

You are Asher, leader of the Longarm tribe. Your tribe has lived in the caverns of this canyon for as long as anyone can remember. Surviving by reaching up from below to pilfer eggs from the nests of bird monsters, thus your tribe's name.

Life was but ordinary until you came across a small monster with a skull on its head. You were all too prepared to fight or flee, but the monster showed you no hostility. In fact, it looked sad. On a whim, you decided to try and cheer it up, and now it follows you loyally. Cubone is now your trusted companion.

Your tribe made a point not to stray too far, or draw too much attention, but thanks to Cubone, that may be able to change.

You decide to see how little Cubone here can help you, and you spend some time training with him.

You find that he is incredibly strong for his size, able to knock a grown man over with a headbutt, and smash rocks with a swing of his bone club. You've fought some monsters yourself, but it was always a struggle. Cubone will listen to you, and perhaps even fight at your command. Perhaps this could lead to regular hunting of some of the local monsters for their meat or other parts?

Cubone also tries to throw his bone to attack, but he seems to need more practice for that.

In the meantime, your tribesmen find a special type of stone deep in the caves. They call them Hard Stones, and think they can make great tools.

Fighting monsters with your bare hands didn't tend to go ever well, and sticks weren't much better. But emulating Cubone could be they key to strengthening your tribe.

You all get to work, gathering suitable wood and shaping the Hard Stones. Eventually, you have made a dozen Hard Stone Clubs. While none of you are as powerful as Cubone, they will undoubtedly help if you have to face a monster.

All the members of your tribe are beginning to swell with confidence. They no longer seem as wary of venturing outside the caves.

Getting a group of five to join you and Cubone, you explore South, out of the canyon. As the cliffs fall, you can see a wide open plain spread out before you.

In the distance, you can see several types of monsters roaming about, but you can't make out exactly what they are.

In the past, this was a dangerous place, to be avoided. A run-in with any of these monsters could kill you. But now it may be an opportunity.

>Rolled 20: Critical Success

Your group moves carefully about, avoiding the larger creatures. You are looking for something more manageable. Another loyal monster like Cubone will lead to even more opportunity for your tribe.

After a while, you all come across a small orange four legged monster with black stripes. It is alone, and looks plenty catchable. You and the other men set up a perimeter, then you tell Cubone to attack as you all close in.

You see Cubone strike the monster with its Bone Club. It seems to be very effective against this type of monster. The creature cries its name, Growlithe, and breathes fire at Cubone! Luckily, another strike of the club has it heeling. You draw closer, and try to command the Growlithe to find that it responds positively to you. It has no trouble following your orders.

While you're here, it would be a waste not to find a source of food or water. It could be invaluable to future excursions. You have Growlithe lead the way to a nearby stream. The water runs fresh and clean here, a perfect place to get a drink. After searching around, you find a small grove nearby of blue fruits, Oran Berries. They are quite delicious, and a few of them are enough to completely rejuvenate Growlithe. However, there isn't an inexhaustible supply. This is likely not enough to qualify as a new sustainable food source.

This place is perfect for a camp if you come to the plains again, so you all memorize its location.

You all pick a handful of Oran berries to take home, and also bury some in the ground as well. Hopefully that is enough to ensure that more berries will be here by the next time you come back.

As your group heads back over the plains and through the canyon, you hear a familiar, unmistakable shriek. Fearow. All of you know the sound. The number of your ancestors who have been killed by Fearow while trying to gather food in the canyon is higher than you care to think about. Your group makes the rest of the journey at the utmost alert, sure not to arouse any attention.

When you get back to the caves, everyone is amazed at your new companion, and the berries. Many wish to eat them everyday, but you regretfully inform them that it is not possible for now.

Learning more about Growlithe, you find that in addition to its fire, it has a fierce bite and a powerful roar. Both useful tools, to be sure.

You try to plant some of the berries near your cave, but to no avail. The ground here is almost completely devoid of life, a few patches of grass at most. You don't think you'll be growing any berries here. Some of the tribe take this as incentive enough to want to move, but others are adamant about staying. You will have to think on the topic.

In the meantime, a hunting party is gathered. With Cubone, Growlithe, and six tribesmen with HardStone Clubs, you feel good about your chances of felling a monster.

>Rolled 17: High Success

Your group moves about the canyon, eyes peeled for a target. You are all usually sneaking from bird's nest to bird's nest, avoiding the watchful eyes of predators, but now you are on the hunt.

You all see five bird monsters in a nest, Vullaby. You've seen them before, but tend to avoid them. They usually have a Mandibuzz parent around to protect them, but they are alone now. You decide to strike.

After working your way up the cliffs into a good position, you have Growlithe set the nest alight. The Vullaby are forced out, right into your hands. They are very young, and all fall easily to your group. Taking the birds quickly, before the parent can return, you head back to the cave with your spoils.

Plenty of meat and feathers, in addition to the skulls that they wear. It seems Vullaby are very productive for the amount of effort it takes to hunt, provided that Mandibuzz is not around. Your tribe enjoys a delicious feast of roast Vullaby, fire courtesy of Growlithe. Much easier than starting one yourself.

The next day, two tribe members come to you with opposing viewpoints.

One wishes to move the tribe to the plains, to live off of the berries and hunting there.

The other insists that yesterday's hunt proves that you are fine where you are.

They both want you to put your foot down and say the final word.

You have two that are loyal to you, but you can't be everywhere. Your tribesmen need to have companions of their own. You spend your last day in the canyon looking for suitable monsters to capture.

>Rolled 14: Medium Success

After searching through the canyon, you all coma across a nest with a young Spearow in it. Easy pickings like the Vullaby, but this time you aren't looking for food. One of you climbs up to the nest and takes the bird, ignoring the incessant pecking. After a couple of Oran Berries, the young Spearow turns docile.

Your tribesman Dart is chosen to be the one to keep it.

In addition, your group stumbles across a moving rock with arms. A Geodude. This one is feisty, and Growlithe and Cubone are forced to battle, but the Geodude is eventually defeated.

Another of your tribesmen, Bron, a very large man, manages to lift and carry the Geodude. The rock monster is impressed, and follows him of his own accord from that point.

Two is all you could manage in a day, but it's good progress. Your group heads out to the plains following the rest of the tribe. You find them along the stream, setting up camp. This is your new home. You will be operating from here from now on. Now that more tribesmen have monsters, it may be more feasible to split duties between you.

First thing's first, your tribe can't be sleeping on the ground out in the open. You need housing.

Wood is very rare out here on the plains, most of it being from the Oran Berry trees. It's decided that they are far too valuable as a food source to chop down. The plains do have however, plenty of tall grass. This grass can be bound together quite well, and made into huts. It takes some time, but you manage to make a few grass huts at the riverside. This is enough to house your people.

It's decided that from now on, Bron and his Geodude will stay at the camp to protect it. Bron accepts this duty with pride.

You decide that right now, it's most pertinent to get a better idea of your new surroundings. You put a scouting party together, let by Dart and his Spearow.

While you are away, you have the remaining tribesmen work on planting more berries to make them a more reliable food source.

You set out to the East, Dart's Spearow flying out in front of the group. As you go, the plains start to thin and give way to sand. Your party stops at the edge of a desert. You take note of it, then head another way. You doubt there is anything for you in that direction.

After heading further South, Spearow lets you know there is something up ahead. You all peek out from behind some bushes to see a few grass huts on the edge of a lake. Someone lives here, but you have no idea if they are friendly. You can see a few humans about, but none of them look like warriors. You suspect they are out hunting. You haven't been noticed yet.

Pokemon are completely edible, and fill the same ecological niche.

We still need good housing for agriculture. We should search the plains for workable wood.

Your group decides to wait to see if any head honchos return to the village instead of heading in now. After a while, you can see a group approaching.

The one in front is riding on top of a four hoofed monster, somehow not being burned by the flames running down it. Four men behind him are hoisting the carcass of a huge hoofed monster with giant round hair. Likely their latest kill.

You all emerge from the bushes, intent on introducing yourselves.

"Who are you?" the man in front asks you. "Canyon people from the North? Why are you this far South? Begone from our lands."

"There's no need for that, we can help each other out." you insist. "So what's this about desert people?"

"You will not earn our trust so easily. Not after the last time we gave it." Apatma explains. "The desert people came to us asking for help. A more reliable source of food and water. We agreed to help them. However, it was all a set up. Their leader, Sehtwa, is a tamer of monsters like none ever seen. He controls the Desert Spirit, Flygon. A monster so powerful that all of the monsters of your and my tribe together could not defeat it. While our guard was down, he attacked our village, taking anything he pleased. You see ten of my tribe before you. There was once four times this number. Now they are dead or taken. We have had to stay on the run since. We are no match, and neither are you. "We'll watch out." you assure Apatma. "We can still trade, right?"

"If you have something or knowledge of value to us, then I don't see why not." Apatma replies. "So long as we also get something out of it, you can propose a trade to us anytime from now on. Materials, how to deal with a certain monster. Anything that may be useful."

"Sounds good." you answer. "That Sehtwa guy though. He sounds like he needs to be taken care of. Maybe not now, but eventually..."

"If you make against him, you will doom us all." Apatma glares at you. "If I hear a word of you trying to agitate the desert people, we will cut you off immediately. We will not all die as a result of your foolishness."

With that, Apatma and his tribesmen head into their village, leaving your group alone. You head back to camp to tell people of your findings.

Back home, food is a problem. The berries must be rationed, as they cannot yet be grown at a greater rate then they are consumed. Eggs are harder to come by here in the plains, and you have not actually done any hunting here yet. Something must be done.

You need to get a hunting party together, and for it to be done regularly. The extra food is the whole reason you moved, after all.

You have Dart and his Spearow lead a group of six other hunters. They plan to start small, but with time they should be taking down big game on every hunt. Though that would be expedited if they had more monsters. You intend to help with that issue.

While Dart is hunting and Bron is defending camp, you will go out with three other tribesmen in search of more monsters to tame.

>Rolled 19: High Success

As you make your way around the plains, make very sure to avoid a herd of stampeding hoofed monsters with three tails. Attempting to grab one of those unprepared is liable to get you all flattened. It can wait until a better opportunity.

You all search a bit longer with no results, until you come across another stream, this one farther West than your camp. You take a break here for a drink.

As you all do, three monsters with horns and grassy pelts approach the stream to drink. They don't seem the slightest bit wary of you. You can even go up and touch them, and they won't put up a fuss. After testing them for a bit, you try to lead them back to your camp. Sure enough, they follow without a second thought. These are some agreeable creatures.

You lead the three Skiddo, as they're called, back to your camp, and they take to the water in the nearby stream just as well. As long as you make sure they don't wander off, they should basically be yours.

>Got 3 Skiddo!

Dart and the others return, having caught a few small whiskered purple monsters. Not exactly the plentiful bounty everyone expected, but it's dinner. The group plans to keep on hunting every day. The night passes without incident.

You decide to stay in the village today, working on various things.

First off, you start mixing mud from the stream into the grass huts. This should make it more durable. You also use this material to make pens for the Skiddo so they don't wander off. You leave a male and female in the pen, while taking the other male for yourself.

You spend the rest of the day training and bonding with your monsters. You find that Skiddo's attacks are effective against Cubone, while Growlithe's attacks are effective against Skiddo. You've got a neat little triangle. Skiddo seems to be able to extend vines out from its body, and shoot seeds that drain health. After this day of training, Cubone has managed to use his bone throwing attack as well.

Dart and the hunting party come back with more Rattata, the small purple monsters. They seem to have tried to catch bigger game, but Spearow alone is not enough. At the very least, you are not hurting for food regardless.

As an idea, a good number, 3-5 or so, of rattatas might be really good harassers to take on larger monsters. Popping in from different directions, low to the ground, in and out style attacks would wear at larger monsters and present less danger to the individual trained pokes

additionally, combining with quick flying types there would be an even greater amount of harassment. They would also train well together, both making the other faster, essentially playing tag. You decide to search for more monsters this time, but not the usual way. This time, you try to find out if any aquatic monsters live in the stream. Unfortunately, none of your monsters can really dive in and help you, Cubone and Growlithe in particular are very reluctant to even go near the water. You try to get Growlithe to go with the hunting party to help them, but he stays put, even though he's not really helping you here.

Regardless, you spend the day in the stream, looking for hereto unknown monsters. It takes some careful skimming along the water, and even then, you only catch the occasional glimpse of a monster, not enough to really know what it is.

Eventually however, you get lucky. After staying still for a while, a monster swims right past you and you nab it, yanking it from the river before it can protest.

You throw it into a hole you dug and filled with water for this purpose, then take a good look at it. It's an orange monster with yellow whiskers, flopping about hysterically. A Magikarp. Even you've heard how useless this thing is. At the very least, you know you can always eat it if it gets that bad. And you know there are other types of monsters farther upstream, but without a monster that can enter the water with you to fight, they may as well be ghosts for how you can catch them. There's probably a better way to go about this, but you aren't aware of it.

>Rolled 11: Low success

Since these Rattata are easy enough to hunt, it might be a good idea to try and capture some. They may not be powerful, but quantity has its own quality.

While Dart and the others are hinting Rattata for food, you and your monsters take to catching them to tame. They're fast little buggers, and they keep managing to run away, but with the help of your monsters, you eventually grab two of them. They flail around, trying to get free, but once you get them back to camp and fed, they cool off. It seems they'll let anybody order them around as long as they think they'll be fed. Easy enough.

If that map is right in regards to river curves, we can try to make a shallower bit to the river that joins in later. Deep enough for water types to move through but shallow enough for us to work with. Might be good for magikarp as a food source.

You get an idea for the acquisition of aquatic monsters. You set a couple of tribesmen onto making nets with the tall grass. It might take them a while to get it down, but if they can get it to hold together, something is bound to be caught. You leave them to it, then head out to explore.

Along with your monsters and two tribesmen, you head farther West. As the plains fade, an uncountable number of trees appear. A huge forest. There's no telling what may be in there. In fact, it may be dangerous to explore. Becoming lost would surely mean your end, and a powerful monster could get the drop on you in an instant. You will need to consider you options heavily before going in. You head South along the forest's edge, and eventually reach another sandy expanse as the forest wanes. But this is not a desert like before. It's a beach. Past the sandy shores, you can see an endless expanse of blue. The ocean. That's two wondrous new sights you've seen today. You follow the coast as you head East, and find a swampy marsh. A river delta resulting from the stream your very camp is set near. There are likely very interesting things here as well, but you've been gone long enough. Your group follows the river upstream back to the camp, to tell everyone the lay of the land. You can go back and investigate more in depth later.

Before you head out, you make your way over to the Swiftfoot camp. You tell them about what you found to the West, and that you would entertain the idea of trading wood to them.

"We were aware of the marsh and the ocean, but the forest is news to us." Apatma tells you. "We have had to be very careful with the use of our wood, limiting the number of bows and arrows we can fashion. If you can procure wood, we will gladly trade with you for it."

Apatma looks to your Skiddo.

"As thanks, why don't I give you a tip?" he asks. "We raise Skiddo here as well. You can harvest milk from Skiddo regularly and drink it. You should try it. It's quite good."

You thank Apatma for the tip, then head the other way for the forest like you planned. You and a few of the hunters together with your monsters and the two Rattata should be decent enough to stay safe. You all cautiously go inside, as the canopy blocks out the sunlight.

>Rolled 18: High Success

As you warily go deeper and deeper into the trees, you start to hear a skittering sound, like a great number of tiny legs. Looking around for the source, you see a tree unlike the others. This one has some kind of golden yellow viscous liquid coming out of it, and there are small purple creatures all over it, eating away.

They seem quite distracted, so you get all your monsters to launch an attack all at once. Cubone throws his bone, Growlithe shoots flames, Skiddo whips vines, and the two Rattata bite away at the creepy crawlies. Most of them scurry away, but four of the creatures are out cold. You have Skiddo carry them, then quickly follow Growlithe out of the woods. You intend to get back to camp before the creatures wake up.

You arrive and keep the monsters calm while you look them over. They are Venipedes, and like the Rattata they are fairly simple minded. They will follow orders as long as they get food. However, they have difficulty following anything more than the simplest orders. Still, they may very well come in handy somehow.

You note that all these monsters are getting harder and harder to feed with the small catches you're currently hunting.

You spend another day at camp, this time setting up regular milking of the Skiddo. You set a tribesman to the duty, who is excited about finally getting some use out of the creatures.

You try some of the milk yourself, and it is quite good. Probably pretty nutritious as well. Monsters would probably benefit from drinking it, but you can't get nearly enough to make it a usual thing for all of them. Though maybe wild monsters could be lured into your grasp with it. There are a few potential uses.

You also inquire about the possibility of HardStone Axes or Shovels. They are quite possible, you're assured, but you would have to send a party back to the caves to get more material.

You spend the rest of the day bonding with your monsters. You took one of the Venipede for yourself, and gave the three others to tribesmen guarding the camp, Bron among them.

You find that Venipede can curl into a ball and roll around hitting things, a move that seems to work on Growlithe quite effectively. He can also shoot some kind of spines that are very effective on Skiddo, though you see Skiddo feeling unwell for a while afterwards. It might be better to not subject anyone to that unless you seriously mean them harm.

The hunters have the Rattata with them now, and while they're still a ways out from taking big game, they can now hunt slightly larger red eyed monsters with yellow marks on their stomachs fairly regularly. It's progress.

>Rolled 20: Critical Success

You decide to go back to the caves to gather more HardStone, and try your luck at looking for monsters while you're there.

You head up through the canyon, noting that you never did find out where it exited to to the North. You go into the caves and gather the HardStone, but find a passage further in. The cave is pitch black beyond this point. You're sure no one ever went this far in. You have Growlithe light a torch for you, as you head inside.

Deep in the cavern, you see a few faint sparkles. As you draw close, you see that they are gems. You hear something scramble in another direction and quickly turn your torch to see.

It's a small purple creature with sharp teeth and gems for eyes.

"Sableye!" it cries, as it dives at your monsters. The creature fights ferociously, jumping from the walls of the cave to attack, scratching like a madman. Eventually, the combined efforts of your four monsters defeat it, and the Sableye backs off. It goes and grabs the gems it had in a pile, scarfing them all down at once. When he's done, he scrambles over to you, looking expectant. You go to leave the cavern, and the Sableye follows, a huge grin on his face. He seems to be attached to you now. You head back to camp with the collected HardStone.

You get some of the other tribesmen to work on making those HardStone tools. They shouldn't take too long. They also let you know that the nets are done, though they've only caught more Magikarp so far, and subsequently eaten them or let them go.

In the meantime, you head out onto the plains in search of a strong monster, one that can haul heavy loads. After a while of searching, you find one.

A horned gray creature covered in rock plating. This thing should be able to haul a ton. Now you just have to tame it. You get your monsters ready. Growlithe's fire seems ineffective, but the Rhyhorn, as it is known, takes severe damage from Skiddo's vines. Cubone's Bone Club also hits the mark effectively. The lumbering beast tries as it might to fight back, but you have it surrounded. After you drain the monster of its will to fight, it's not hard to lead it back to camp. It was once raging, but now it calmly munches on the food you provide it. You get a feeling you can pile up wood on its back, and it will move it for you without much fuss.

It's time to go chop down some trees. You get the couple of HardStone Axes that have been finished so far and give them out to a couple of tribesmen you'll take with you. One of them, Largo, the second biggest tribesman after Bron, is a reliable guy. You decide to leave him in charge of Rhyhorn.

The three of you make your way over to the forest, and you stand alert as the others chop down a few trees. They get three of them down, then pile up the logs on Rhyhorn. Turns out you may need a couple of trips. You go back and forth twice in order to get all the wood to camp, and at Rhyhorn's pace, it takes quite a while. But it gets done, and now you have a good amount of wood. You tell Largo that he should keep it up every day to get a steady flow of wood going.

You notice that Bron seems to have befriended some kind of small child looking monster. He's wrestling with the tiny thing.

You ask him about it, and he says the Tyrogue stumbled upon the camp and demanded a fight with him. Now it seems he's attached.

It's good to know things are going smoother without you needing to intervene all the time.

Now that you have wood, the focus is on how to use it. You get to work carving.

Immediately it hits you that this is nothing like the brittle trees you had back in the canyon. This is some real high quality wood. Anything you make out of it would be extremely good.

You think back to the bows and arrows the Swiftfoot had and replicate them. The arrows are easy enough, but you can't seem to manage the bow part. You don't really know what you're doing. You decide to set that aside for now.

In addition, you start using wood for your camp. You start to set up palisades around it as a defense. You instruct your tribesmen to continue doing so as you get more wood, and to eventually move to replacing the grass huts and the pen with wood as well.

When Dart returns form the usual hunting trip, you see he has an additional companion. A Shinx, he explains. He got it to join him while he was out, apparently. It's ability to shoot lightning is quite astounding. He tells you how he expects hunts to go much smoother now.

If you intend to make bows, there's really only one thing to do. You'll have to talk to the Swiftfoot. You get Largo to halt his woodcutting for the day, so Rhyhorn can haul some logs out East. You head to the Swiftfoot camp at the edge of the lake, then show Apatma the wood you brought and suggest your deal.

"This is very good wood. High quality." Apatma says, examining it. "It will make fine bows, and whatever else you wish to form it into. Indeed, worthy of a trade for knowledge."

Apatma takes some of the wood, then begins fashioning a bow, explaining all the steps to you as he does them. By the time he's finished, you feel like you fully understand the process. Apatma takes the wood, and assures you that he will be willing to trade for more whenever you bring it.

"We really should bring our tribes closer, Apatma." you insist. "We have much to teach each other."

"We can teach each other and remain separate." Apatma replies. "Neither I or my people will so readily join hands with another tribe. We need to assure ourselves that we are strong enough to survive at all, first. We have no intention of showing our backs to anyone, even our friends."

You head back to camp, then let some of the other tribesmen know the bowmaking process. Another thing they can work on from now on.

You spend some more time with your monsters, Sableye specifically. You still don't know his potential. You find that, in addition to his furious swipes, he can sneak through the shadows for a quick strike. He also has a neat ability to briefly negate any attack, though it doesn't work in succession.

In the evening the hunting party returns, but the hunters for the most part look to be in terrible shape. One even has a hole right through his hand that had to be wrapped up.

You see that some of the hunters are carrying the perpetrator. One of the three tailed hoofed monsters, successfully killed.

"We did it, chief!" Dart exclaims, shaking his fists. You see that he has bruises and is swollen all over. "We killed a Tauros! Tonight we feast!"

And feast you did. The Tauros is easily the tastiest meat you've ever had.

After enjoying the Tauros' meat, you take it upon yourself to check out the pelt. The hunters weren't particularly careful with it, as you'd expect from how fierce a battle it seemed to be. In its condition, you'll only be able to cut a few decent chunks of hide out to use. However, the parts that are in good shape look very promising. If you can catch more Tauros, you can probably outfit your whole tribe with some nice quality wear. With the increase in variety and availability of food, your tribe is no doubt set to start growing. You'll have to keep that in mind going forward.

You also spend some time erecting palisades. The stream is a natural barrier, and saves you from having to build on one side of your camp, as on the other side, you put up a wall as high as a man, save for an opening to pass through where you station a guard. This should do wonders for your tribe's security. The walls are decent enough for now, so you have your tribesmen begin work on replacing your grass huts with wood. A higher quality material should result in a more effective living space. Any future dwellings are sure to be made of wood as well. You personally lay out the plans for a main hall, where your tribe can gather for special occasions. It will be a while before all the wood is ready for the building, and it still needs to be built, but the groundwork is there.

Dart and the other hunters don't manage to bring back a Tauros today. It seems last time they just got very lucky to find one alone, and it was still quite a battle. To be able to take Tauros regularly will require being able to deal with the whole herd. And you're nowhere near that level.

>Rolled 8: Light Failure

If your monsters need to be stronger, then you will have to keep fighting. You head to the forest in search of wild monsters to pit your own against as training.

You carefully make your way through the forest, making sure not to lose your way. You've taken this same path before, so you want to burn it into your mind to make future trips this way easier.

You draw near the tree that leaked the golden yellow fluid, and you see a few small winged yellow monsters eating away. They're not much, but they might be decent practice. Before you can give any orders however, the ground begins to shake in time. The trees tremble. Something huge is coming this way, its footsteps a warning. You see the small monsters flee the tree in panic before a giant creature bursts from further in the forest.

"Snorlax!"

The creature is massive, many times your size. It absolutely dwarfs any of your monsters. It heads for the tree with the fluid, but stops short when it sees you and your monsters. It turns your way and makes a swipe.

You direct your monsters in battle, hoping to fell the beast, but it is too strong. None of your attacks can deal much damage, and the Snorlax is batting every one of your monsters around effortlessly. Before any serious injuries are accrued, you decide to cut your losses, take your monsters and run.

The Snorlax makes no effort to follow, turning back towards the three as you disappear from sight. You bring all your monsters back to camp and try to relieve their injuries. They should be alright with a bit of rest.

That wasn't exactly the training you were hoping for. Trying to fight a creature that strong is surely an exercise in futility, at least for now. It seems the forest holds many dangerous monsters. You will have to be very careful if you go there again.

>Rolled 18: High Success

You decide to stay in the plains for now. You take your monsters out to train, hoping to maybe run into some more Skiddo on the way, as well.

Later into your search, you do in fact find two Skiddo, but they're under attack. A monster with a huge red and yellow mane is chasing them, very nearly close to catching them. This could be your chance for both some training, and to take those Skiddo for your tribe.

You get all five of your companions ready, and you cut off the creature just before it goes to dive for a Skiddo. Cubone throws his bone at the monster's face, stopping it in it's tracks. The move seemed quite effective.

The Skiddos back away, as the monster recovers from the hit. It roars fiercely in your direction, a terrible sound that would have made even you run in fear not too long ago.

"Pyroar!"

That is the name of this creature. After roaring, it shoots a stream of fire from its maw, forcing you and your monsters to take cover, save for Sableye, who blocks it with his skill. Growlithe dives in to bite the Pyroar, while Skiddo stays back to attack from afar. It has no business being near those flames. Venipede curls up into a ball and rolls at the creature at high speed, dealing an effective hit, but a sweep of the flames puts Venipede out of commission. You make sure to grab it and get it out of the way before it gets seriously injured. Sableye swipes away at Pyroar, blocking hits when it can, While Cubone goes to town with his Bone Club. The onslaught is having visible effect on the monster, but it fights back just as hard. Its flames are far stronger than Growlithe's and it's claws sharper than Sableye's. Try as they might, your monsters begin to fall one by one. This creature isn't so overwhelmingly powerful like the Snorlax, but you still didn't expect it to be this strong. Only Cubone remains that is able to fight.

Suddenly, you see your companion begin to glow. A process you know of, but that you haven't witnessed before in person. Evolution.

With a blinding light, your monster is no longer a Cubone, but a Marowak. He is bigger, stronger, and looks a whole lot more confident. He takes to Pyroar again, and this time, a few swipes of his Bone Club is enough to put him down for good.

The two Skiddo gladly follow you back to camp after the ordeal, and you drag the remains of the Pyroar with you as you take your monsters back to rest. You suspect that taking injuries like this so close to each other is probably not good for their health. you do what you can to treat them for now.

The Pyroar is good eating, though not as tasty as the Tauros. Its pelt will likely make nice things for you as well.

You get your tribesmen to work on that Pyroar pelt, expecting to get some nice leather armor out of it. You also make sure to tell the hunters to try and not damage the hides of their kills too badly. You want to use it for the rest of the tribe.

As they get to that, you take another trek up the canyon, back to the caves you once inhabited. You plan on looking for any useful materials or monsters while you're here.

Unfortunately, this trip is much less successful than your last one. You don't see a single monster, only hearing the faint flitting of Zubat that are gone when you try to look at them. It's almost like they're laughing at you. As far as materials go, you don't find anything useful. You do find some other kind of rock, but you recognize it after examining it. Everstone. Serves no purpose that HardStone can't do better. All in all, the trip was a failure, and you head back to camp determined to do better another day. At least your monsters were able to relax a bit.

Clefairy are probably watching us.

>Rolled 12: Low Success

You head back to the caves, this time hoping to meet monsters against which to test your mettle. This time you're a bit more lucky, and find a good amount of Zubat. You've encountered these things time and time again in the past, and they are not much danger if you know how to deal with them. They have trouble leaving darkness, and when isolated, they pose little threat. Now that you have your monsters, you can take on a dozen of them without much worry. You spend some time going through the cave, training up your monsters to fight. They will have to be stronger if you want to face greater challenges. After some time, you witness another evolution. Venipede evolves into Whirlipede, a round shelled monster that rolls everywhere. It seems more powerful now.

With that decent progress, you head back to camp. You see Bron and the others hard at work setting up the defenses you lined out.

>Rolled 16: Medium Success

You decide that the Snorlax from early would be an invaluable resource, providing a huge amount of meat and fur. You join with Dart and the hunting party, then lead them into the forest.

You make your way to the familiar tree, batting away small bug monsters. You decide to examine what exactly this is. You taste some of the golden yellow stuff, and find it to be incredibly sweet. This nectar must be attracting monsters far and wide. Your monsters all seem to like it as well. You could probably find use for it if you were able to gather it with any regularity.

After that, you and your party lie in wait for the Snorlax. A long time passes, but it does not come. You did only see it here the once. Perhaps it does not actually come by so often.

Something else does arrive however, attracted by the nectar. It's a large brown monster with a mark on its belly like a circle.

"Ursaring!"

The Ursaring goes into a frenzy when it sees your group near the nectar tree, and attacks you wildly. You and Dart take up the effort to fight the beast, as the rest of the party backs off. Your monsters are quite competent now, and with you at the helm, the Ursaring is made short work of. Though its strength was still not as great as the Snorlax.

You take your kill back to camp, where you enjoy the meat, and make the pelt into a coat for yourself. It's not the Snorlax one you were looking for, but it will do nicely.

You've been interested to see what lies North of your old canyon home, and with your new pelt, you feel ready to face anything. You and your monsters head out.

You head North through the canyon, past the old caves, farther than you ever remember hearing anyone daring to go. The Fearow that so terrorized you before are no longer enough to dissuade you from your destination. In the distance, you can see white mountains rising into the sky. As go farther and farther North, you can feel it getting chillier. Eventually however, you are forced to stop. A sheer cliff face blocks your way. At the top of the cliffs, you can see some white substance covering the ground, but you don't know what it is. Examining the cliff, it doesn't seem impossible to scale it, but you aren't confident that you could. A single slip would kill you. You decide against falling to your death, and turn back. There's probably a method to get up there for certain, you just don't know it. Or at the very least, another path around to up there.

You return to camp, and Dart gives you some news.

"We saw same people we didn't recognize while we were out hunting." he explains. "South, near the edge of the marsh. They fled at seeing us, so we don't know anything more."

It seems there may be yet another tribe in the area, one that so far has managed to elude you.

Now that you know of them, you shouldn't just ignore the fact that there are others to the South. You get your monsters together and head to the marsh.

Searching through the marsh is quite an ordeal, as you have to be very careful where you step, or you could fall in the murky water. Progress is slow, and there are few things of interest. The plants here don't seem like they're much use, and it's hard to even reach any monsters. Several times, you see monsters with leaf like heads floating on the water, but the mud you have to wade through to reach them is too thick to make it before they drift away at the sight of you.

Clearly, this is not a place to explore unprepared. After hitting the ocean, you turn West so you can follow the coast back up, but along the way, you see some buildings. Huts built on stilts, sticking out of the swamp. This must be where the other tribe lives.

You draw close to the village, and you're met by a man accompanied by a bipedal blue monster that has orange gills and a single fin on its head.

"You don't look like Swiftfoot. You must be of the new tribe." the man says. "What are you doing here, down in the marsh? You're liable to fall in and get yourself buried in the mud."

thoguh >>32491 is right, we don't know if they're cannibals or not, just that they've really got a leg up on us re: firepower.

and i mean how big is the village exactly

the way i see it either there's enough space within the palisade to fight or there's not, and regardless of how we label one patch of dirt or another that isn't gonna change. we'd have to leave the palisade to build an arena no matter what, which expends additional resources and is honestly just a bad idea for so many reasons.

besides, all our shit is made out of wood and we've got a relatively untrained fire type. the arena'd be burnt to cinders by sundown.

oh, and by the way, here's a thought: go back to the caves and dig for a fire stone. sableye could help.

I mean, so long as we don't go full BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD and keep the fights relatively non-lethal, it could be fairly useful to keep the guards pokemon strong.

>E) Are you part of the Desert Tribe we've heard of?

are you retared they live in a marsh
>>
>>32606
He already said it. It's useless as fuck at the moment we have to worry about a billion things, and stroking our dicks in a circle to fights is not something smart. We can train the mons while hunting instead and you'd be getting exp AND meat/materials.
>>
>>32625
Of course.
>>
>>32652
The pit is less for exclusively training our mons, but more for helping the defenders, and weaker mons that would get shitstomped by the mons that we and our hunters normally face.

Though I agree it's not a priority, it is by no means a BAD idea to have one.
>>
>>32576
furthermore, this could be a good source of trading resources--and it's one that no one else has available. besides, for the anon who wanted culture, gems and precious metals fashioned into beads and art and whatnot sounds fantastic for culture. lets become master craftsmen--it'd be culture, it'd be trade potential, it'd be a good way to improve our weaponry and defenses.

think: we've got a fire-type, we've got a pokemon which can find rare stones. fuck, whirlipede could run a pottery wheel. we've got all the tools for us to become master stone/metalsmiths, and y'all want to turn us into gladiator culture. we only have like two pokemon that can reasonably fight!

plus, lest we forget, this is still early game. we haven't suffered a major loss yet. you guys are asking for disaster.
>>
>>32685
It'd be better to keep rotating the guys who stay on defense and the guys who go on hunting trips to train than making a building effort towards something that is pretty useless. And some other anon said, why dig when you have the whole place to train, there's no fire pokemons in the guard.
>>

>>32706

>>
>>32716
...there wasn't one, though. You're pulling that out of your ass. The desert tribe ATTACKED the swiftfeet, and killed a bunch of them, not all of them.

And even so, he's still in the desert, and the swiftfeet are between us and them anyways.
>>
>>32701
I'm not against crafts/arts since that can be useful both to trade and culture. I can vote to this.
>>
>>32491
>Don't think they're cannibals, just douches.
>>32556
>we don't know if they're cannibals or not,

The Swiftfoot lost 3/4ths of their tribe to them in combat and kidnapping. They're paranoid about working with others because of that interaction. I was being overly dramatic, but they've got firepower AND some kind of intent. Slavery is just the nicest possible option.

>>32491
>What beneficial purpose would getting our tribe drunk solve

That's knowing too much about humanity. We love booze. Most of our food storage and agriculture technology stems from the fact that alcohol keeps well, is filling, and encourages people to gather in one place around it's production.

It's the stepping stone between hunter/gathers living in huts to living in villages with industrial complexes. It's good for trade, it's good for farming, and it's good for morale.

>>32737
Thirding this one too.

>>
>>32771
>and we still have nothing that's effective on ground or dragon types except for magikarp

That's even ignoring that water is neutral to dragons.

>>
>>32776
No, we already have decent fortifications. He's a threat, but, like others have said, the Swiftfeet are between him and us.
>>
>>32771
Hence why I'm still pushing to train up our mons and develop some kind of climbing tech, Ice-types will be crazy useful in beating back any attempts on our tribe by desert tribe due to them most likely using ground types, or at worst, ice types. Both of which ice wrecks, and flygon has 4x weakness to ice as well.

>>32780
Dude, you're creating an argument where there really isn't one. We're not sayign DROP EVERYTHING, COLLISEUM NOW FUCK EVERYTHING ELSE. We're just saying maybe weshould make an area for the defenders and hunters to train their pokemon with each other in a non-life threatening situation, which could help develop bonds between them and foster a sense of competition as well.
>>
>>32765
If he attacks the swiftfeet, they're gonna get demolished for sure and I doubt the swiftfeet are worth anything for raiding. However a new and upcoming tribe with decent numbers and some pokemons sounds like a pretty sweet target. At least better than the tribe he already destroyed.
>>
>>32802
Nigga we need to build pens, start thinking about mining operations/expand the woodcutting/woodcrafts, find more pokemons, explore the place, we have enough on our plate that building a fighting pit sounds retarded.
>>
>>32794

So why don't we let our defenders spar amongst themselves.

Set up a rotation where experienced hunters train with defenders in matches to prove their strength, and rotate some defenders with the hunting parties so all the people in our tribe gain experience and access to pokemon while another group of probably females work out new technologies for farming (because our gathering right now is garbage) and we figure out how to defend via diplomacy, so you can go mountain climbing to get your ice monsters.
>>
>>32776
hmm.

admittedly, your post actually brings up a good point in the opposite direction. i wouldnt fuck with a tribe that had an arena. i'm still against it, but we gotta consider every angle.

exploration to the north is vital, it's true--but it'd be more economical and smarter in the long run to train skiddo as mounts instead of developing tools in this case. a well trained skiddo or gogoat shouldn't have a problem scaling cliffs.

>>32802
>which could help develop bonds between them and foster a sense of competition as well.

You introduce yourself as Asher of the Longarm Tribe, and tell that your people have moved down from the canyon in the North.

"I learned of a tribe here, and came to meet with you." you explain. "Also to see what kind of things there were in this marsh. Monsters and such. Might I ask what you have here?"

"Curiosity may just be your end, Longarm. A few of those desert people have tried to come this way, and perished for their arrogance. This swamp takes no prisoners. Only the monsters here and us know its secrets. We are known as the Wading tribe. I am their chief, Talcha. We have lived here for generations undisturbed. This marsh provides us with a natural defense. It may look to have nothing of worth, but there is a plethora of food to be found if you know where to look. We will not share the secret of how to find them, but you have come far. We shall give you a taste of one of our fruits."

Another Wading tribe member brings out a large purple and green fruit. Talcha breaks off a piece and hands it to you, eating some himself. You take a bite. It's the sweetest thing you've ever tasted by a longshot, even more than the nectar.

"This is a Watmel Berry." Talcha explains. "Just one of the many fruits hidden in this swamp. Both them and the monsters here are unknowable to outsiders. Only we have managed to utilize them. I implore you not to come here recklessly. If you wish to see us, take the coast. We will be able to find you from there. Any trade you wish to do can be negotiated, but remember that the secrets of this marsh are our own. We won't have you traipsing around as you please. We need to defend our own home after all."

Talcha leads you to the coast, and you follow the river back to camp, where you tell your tribe of the Wading tribe. While they are somewhat reclusive, at least they seem open to trade.

I think rotating defender/hunter sounds great, also diplomacy too because we can get a steady influx of materials from foreign lands without getting our manpower too spreaded.
>>
>>32815
Alright, please, by all means, tell me what we have that is so much more valuable than what the swiftfeet have. The Wood/HardStone? The Skiddos? Oh wait, the swiftfeet already have all those, because we trade with them.

Dude, the desert tribe kidnaps people and resources, and we're a fortified target and better defended than any of the swiftfeet. Face it, there's no real reason to make a risky raid on us when he could just raid the swiftfeet for more things far more easily

And that's not even starting on the issue that they likely wouldn't travel too far from Flygons native habitat.

>>32832
Dude, seriously? These are all things that can happen in the background.
We already HAVE a woodcutting operation set up, we don't really need to expand it RIGHT NOW until we have a need for massive quantities of wood.
Mining? We don't even have picks yet, dude. c'mon.
Pens? We already have those. It's where we keep our tribe skiddo, of which we have what, 5? 7?

I mean, I just feel that you're a little TOO vehemently against any sort of fighting pit idea ever happening whatsoever. Did your parents lock you in the basement to fight dogs or something?
>>
>>32887
Actually, the argument that we are a risky raid is also an argument for raiding us. If we are a "risky raid" now, it is very likely we will be an impossible one later and likely a true threat of counter raid.

5 total Skiddo, didn't see that earlier. 3 originals, one for us and a breeding pair in town. Later we saved 2 more from the Pyroar, unknown gender. While there, try having Sableye help us find unique gems, and have geodude try grabbing any metal we can find, or any clay we can find, so we can try developing pottery.

>D.Create/Develop/Research (Specify)

Cave should also be a decent place to train up our skiddo as well
>>
Rolled 7 (1d20)

>>32924
Eh, we're fine where we are imo. We've already started fortifying the place, and we're relatively close to multiple good resources in the Quality Wood and Nectar from the forest, Oran Berries that we can get started farming, and HardStone from our old home in the caves.
>>
>>32887
The wood is invaluable because all the wood they have access to is absolute trash. The hardstone I dont know if they have access to, but if not is also invaluable. Some anon thought of the sableye and that makes me think a mining operation for gems is not so retarded.

The real reason why they would raid us is that the other fucking tribe is gone, when you burn a tribe down and steal their shit, there's nothing else to steal, and the next one is us, and we're gonna gather wealth, dragging attention, so it's just a matter of time.

We need to expand woodcutting to trade for other resources, picks? do hardstone picks. We have pens? Good, expand them.

I dont like the fighting pit because I see no real reason to do it. It's a waste of time to make a hole and designate it as the fighting hole, it's no use. Just fucking use the empty space to fight, no need to make a special place for it.

Seriously, man I'm not even pushing for a fighting pit, I'm just saying having a set place for fighting where our guys can enage in non-lethal competitions with their mons seems like maybe it's not such a shit idea that we should "never ever do it ever because it's super fucking stupid"
>>
>>32983

Fighting for the sake of fighting is fucking stupid. If you want the guys to fight, send them out to hunt and suddenly it's productive.

They already have a bunch of said high quality wood but it wont last forever, they need wood and they probably have something to give for it. If you're so hellbent on digging, dig a fucking moat like some anon thought before.

S-senpai...
>>
>>33017
Well, considering we started with no mons, we kinda had to focus on building up our tribe and getting them some mons too, and we've not relly wanted for food or anything, so we've just been focused on finding new mons/resources to help in building up our camp. We've got a pretty decent palisade and all

>>33027
FFS man. Have you just not read anything I've ever said, and just assumed I'm calling your mother a whore and saying you're a stupid shit? Calm down and read my stuff. I'm not saying we start up some roman fucking gladiatorial arena, I'm just saying maybe we make an area to focus on non-lethal combat, to train up weaker mons that are typically prey in the wild, such as ratatas, or smaller ones in general. THis will serve actual purpose by provide a competitive outlet for our hunters and defenders, aid in bonding them, and helping people get to understand their mons so they don't go up against something that will LITERALLY FUCKING KILL THEM DEAD without knowing a huge amount about their monster. There are real, ACTUAL TANGIBLE BENEFITS to a designated fighting area, and I'm not even pushing to build one, just trying to show you that it's not some utterly retarded idea that'll burn our tribe to the ground and have the ashes get fucked by a Flygon.
>>
>>33071
Then fucking rotations like it was stated above. Some guys rest in town as the guard, others go out hunting to get exp and materials. They go back, rotate, and so on and so forth.
>>

>>
>>33082

>>

You decide to focus on tribe organization. As it is, the hunters are the ones getting the most experience, while those that stay to defend the camp usually get less. You decide to set up a rotation so that each tribesman will switch between duties to gain experience.

In addition, you set up standards for Skiddo breeding and milking. You have two males and two females, so that should be plenty enough to get started. Like the human members of your tribe, the Skiddo will begin to grow gradually. Which is good, because that means more milk. It's been found that the Skiddo milk is especially good for the tribe's children, and thus priority is being given to them while supply is still low.

You also train with your own Skiddo, trying to get used to using it as a mount. It works, but not as well as you'd hope. Were you to climb the cliff face on Skiddo, you'd have to leave every other one of your monsters behind, as it cannot support their weight. Perhaps if it were only bigger.

Your tribesmen have finally got a regular Oran Berry crop going, in an orchard they've planted. Your supply should be sufficient from now on.

As for training, the consensus is that hunting is doing the trick so far, and if we NEED to train up quickly we can use the open fields near the village, or hey, our old dwellings in the caves. We can work on an arena once everything is more stable, but not now. How is that autism?

>>33300
Ughhhhh stop that, /please/.
Sure, the rattatas are technically expendalbe, but if we train them, we get raticates, and trained mons are in general going to be stronger than wild ones we just snag at random. There is a real, tangible benefit to actively preventing the deaths of trained mons.

Like, a warrior can die, sure, and it wont affect us massively. Except for the fact that his replacement is a novice whereas he was a veteran, and will intrinsically be more shit that he was until being trained.

OH WAIT, I forgot, training is super fucking stupid. My bad, what was I even thinking.

>Rolled 14: Medium Success

You bring Bron and a couple of other tribesmen with you up the canyon, in search of Geodude. You think they might be useful for heavy lifting.

After looking around, you eventually find two of the rock monsters, and battle them into submission. Bron then tells the others that Geodude will respect them if they can lift it.

Try as they might, the rock monsters are too heavy for the others, and Bron has to once again be the one to do it. He says he'll try and get the Geodudes to warm up to the others over time.

When that's done, you head back into the caves. You instruct Sableye to lead the way. Sableye had a horde of gems before, so you hope it should be able to find others. After a bit of searching, Sableye indicates a wall. Digging is tough work without proper tools, but you eventually hit something. In the wall, you find a few gems of various colors. Sableye quickly reaches and takes one for himself, while you and your tribesmen take the rest. It's not much now, but there is likely much more where that came from.
That's all I got for now guys, I have to go. Next time I get on will be from a different IP, so I'll just let this thread fall off after however long it takes. Next one will probably go up in a few days.

Hope you guys had fun, I thought this was pretty neat.

>consensus
A big argument is not consensus, anon.
>>
>>33331
Nice almost-get.

Unlike the arena plan, berry cultivation isn't mutually exclusive to a lot of our other goals. I don't see why we can't do that and other things.

>>33339
Thanks for the fun time OP, see you in a few days.
>>
>>33338
It's not a novice if you send novices with every veteran. Or is the guy a novice forever? Iunno, maybe doing the same shit over and over observing someone that knows what he's doing doesnt work towards learning the trade. Yeah you're right, we need someone to talk really really slowly to them so they get it.
>>
>>33339
Alright, Thanks for running Laze. Was pretty enjoyable.
>>
>>33339
you gonna archive this
>>
>>33339
Make a twitter or something man.
>>
>>33349
You still haven't disputed my actual argument. Consensus was a poor choice of words, but it's still the majority.
>>
>>33359
does /qst/ even have an archive?
>>
>>33386
Yeah it does, Licorice set it up.
>>
>>33357
There's a reason craftsmen take apprentices whereas guardsmen typically train as groups, man.

>>33373
Technically, there wasn't an actual point where anyone actually straight up said to make a training area just yet, just anons saying we should make one later one to help people whose mons are freshly caught in comparison to other peoples, and provide a decent leisure activity in addition to helping train people.
>>
>>33354
It's not even berry cultivation. It's berry discussion and praise. We can talk them berries, we can discuss why your berrifu is shittier than my berrifu, AND we can have berry expositions. All in a safe enviroment where nobody will choke because we will have anti-berry choking proffessionals at all times checking out that everybody is okay.
>>
>>33339
Had a great time, Laze! Thanks for running!
>>
>>33359
Sure

>>33371
I have one, as long as you don't mind wading through the info about the quest it was actually made for: https://twitter.com/LazeQM
>>
>>33339

It's been the most fun quest this weekend, looking forward to more.

Rotation plan is a good one.

I'm even for splitting up the village and building settlements in the north closer to the caves and one closer to the beach so we can have more control of the area and better fall back locations. Probably in the next few seasons.
>>
>>33402
Okay, then drills in the open with no arena. Done deal.
>>
>>33415
Thanks man, I will probably the other quest anyway. I like your way of questing.
>>
>>33417
I like rotations because we can do that with every crew(even gatherers) so their pokemons strengthen and have an easier time doing their jobs.
>>
>>33417
There hasnt been much mention of our tribe growing beyond the initial 15 save for a comment about kids getting Skiddo milk over others until supply increases. We should probably wait until we're near 70-100 members before splitting.
>>
>>33417
Our tribe is still pretty small though, I'd wait on making full colonies anywhere until we're a bit bigger and stronger imo

>>33420
Fucking what? That's retarded, why would our guards ever need to train? They can just handle everything as soon as we call them a guardsman, like what are you even thinking you idiot?

>>33432
Except then everyone is a jack of all trades. Better to have people specialize in things so they get really good at their job as opposed to mediocre at every job.
>>
>>33412
Uh

>>33402
People have been arguing to make it a priority. Others have been arguing against them. I've got no qualms with establishing an arena, nor do most of us. But it shouldn't even be discussed yet because we need to do a lot of other things first.
>>
>>33449
I haven't seen anyone arguing to make it a priority, and I'm one of the anons arguing right now. I mean, I'm just trying to get one guy to see that it's not the most retarded idea to ever be thought.

Just trying to say that It's a GOOD idea, although it's one that we should focus on later on, after we're more established, alongside the ideas to establish other camps.
>>
>>33441
I doubt a pokemon is gonna get better if it's not through combat though. If they could get their stats just by doing something specific I wouldnt remove gatherers and do civilian/military split and the military can rotate between hunting/defending.

However pokemons only grow through combat and that means that the gatherers will be left behind and not improve at all since all the pokemon tasks will remain the same. I dont know, I'd have to think about civilians, however military I see no downside, they get real pokemon vs pokemon experience, they get exp, maybe some evolutions down the road, teamwork and the militia back home is a perfect way to rest while also serving a purpose.
>>
>>33441
Guards would and should need to train or gain xp via hunting rotations because they need to the as good or better than the people who leave the camp to make sure that the hunters have a camp to come back to at the end of the day.

I prefer to hunting rotation plan, 1 guard to a hunting party of 4-5 for training purposes.

Eventually, when we get more kids and bred monsters to pair them with, we have some training pits overseen by the off duty guards to help train young tridesmen and monsters.
>>
>>33434
>We should probably wait until we're near 70-100 members before splitting.

You're paranoid. It's not like they'd be across country. Splitting at 70-100 would work if we were bees. Leaving a couple stoneworking famlies near the caves will help improve their quality of work, especially if we can convince the Swiftfoot to calm down a bit.

>>33441
>Better to have people specialize in things so they get really good at their job as opposed to mediocre at every job.

When that job is fighting things and hunting things, I'd rather have jacks of all trades through out the tribe and promote people to leadership positions that are really good who should specialize.

When we're well off enough to have airships, then overspecialization isn't a bad thing.
>>
>>33476
See, you're assuming that everything is going to work the exact same way as in the games. I can't fault you for that, but my assumption is the opposite.

If we want a mon to get good at something, then we need it to do that thing. Like, a mon meant to help our hunter would most likely end up skilled at stealth and have attacks prioritising attacking from the shadows, or behind; whereas a mon meant to guard the camp would, in the process of doing so, develop tougher resistance to attacks and moves related to defense. Things along those lines.

Basically, You assume things will work as in the games where every mon will learn every move at specific levels and gain the same stats no matter what. Whereas I'm assuming that mons will develop along the roles they're assigned, and develop abilities, stats, and moves to aid in THAT role.

Not to mention that each job would ahve a different mindset, where guards would focus on taking things head on and protecting people whereas hunters would be focused more on tracking things down and attacking from a hiding place.
>>
>>33516
But what about evolving and such? You think if a rock pokemon mines a lot he will evolve? Or how would that even work? Because we could cheese the fuck outta that and have geodudes carrying stuff up and down to evolve them or whatever.
>>
>>33543
I'd assume that evolution would function differently in different scenarios, and not just "fight shit or you'll never ever evolve ever" because in that case, shit would be kinda stupid.

I mean, think back to the moving services in all the pokemon games, they all had Machokes, right? You think every single guy there trained up every single one there? It's more likely that they evolved during the course of doing their jobs, imo. So I assume something like that is possible.
>>
>>33566
Imo, those machokes were somehow wild machokes caught and employed in that thing, that's how I imagined it at least, anyways if laze confirms, I'm not against having specific jerbs for some pokemons. If not we'll have to suck it up and find a way to include gatherers in hunting parties to evolve them or whatever.
>>
>>33566

I'm going to say I have to split the difference.

It would be nice if defenders gained experience defending.
In my experience, that just results in guards who sit around and freak out when dropped into a combat scenario though.

By sending a guard with a larger group of hunters, the guard learns some combat strategy, but also can use skills that will be useful in defense to aid the hunters. Like spotting movement, tracking, and some combat, which will be very useful.

By putting hunters on defense, they learn what to look for, the importance of protecting home and hearth, and gain an greater attachment to the village.

I really want the rotations so the guards learn not to become complacent and relaxed though. Sure a tanky pogey like Azumarril won't bring in the big kills, but weekly exercise is still good for them.
>>
>>33595
I mean, gatherers and resource haulers will always be inherently weaker than our frontline fighters, so having them in hunting aprties will always run the risk of killing them, and said risk would always be higher than an equivalent mon that's been trained for fighting.

>>33651
That's one of the main thrusts behind the Training area being made later on after we're more established. It's a place where guards can train other guards on the best methods to face an enemy head on without sending a fresh dude into a life or death situation. But again, that's for alter on anyways.
Not to mention losing a gatherer will hurt more than losing a fighter anyways.
>>
>>33434
i don't think the time-scale we're on lends itself to natural growth. except for new pokemon and merging with other tribes, natural growth will happen slowly, if at all.

>>33441
sarcasm helps no one.

>>33471
i understand and it is a good idea. i don't think it's worth discussing at all for now, though--and anons like >>33215 certainly aren't helping your cause, you can't deny.

>>33476
there have been plenty of options for combat and there will continue to be. barring a truly monstrous encounter like snorlax or a herd of powerful pokemon like tauros, we shouldn't be in too much danger in the plains or the caves. We've taken down a pyroar and an ursaring so far without losing any teammates.

>>33486
splitting is another idea that is not bad but shouldn't be discussed at this moment in time. without merging, there will be ~15 of us for a good while yet.

the low rate of human growth might just be the fatal flaw of this whole setup. pokemon live and grow on a day-to-day or week-to-week scale, humans do so on a year-to-year scale. once we've got a reliable economy going, we may as well start initiating time-skips.

specialization is historically the better move than a jack-of-all-trades mindset. though again, these ideas are not mutually exclusive.

also, hey, Dart should train his spearow until evolution and then use it as a mount. that's a thought.

>>33651
we aren't getting an azumarill any time soon, but it'd be a real boon to have on defense, and we have the potential means to evolve it with sableye's help. just a thought. were Bron to have one well trained, we likely wouldnt need to worry much about attackers. that's sort of meta-gaming, though. we know enough to understand that we need a water-type, though, so I'd recommend searching the stream and coast ASAP, or maybe trading with the Wading (heh) for a good one.
>>
>>33753
>sarcasm helps no one.
But it's fun, you can't deny that.
>>
>>33794
shrug
>>
>>33823
*sigh*
>>
>>33794
Fun if you like shitposting in a way.

>>33753
>once we've got a reliable economy going

Time skips, legacy, and what have you.

As I said back in >>33102
the next clear step is to start a culture that trains children not to fear monsters and instead see them as potential allies.

As weak as a fresh caught Rattata is, teaching a five year old to raise one, results in a ten year old with a Raticate and less fear of monsters in general.

The next generation will be awesome.
>>
>>33940
Skiddo's as well. They seem quite placid and easy to bond with.
>>
>>33940
>Fun if you like shitposting in a way.

Who doesnt?
>>
>>33940
>>33965
i'm in full support of this. rattata can be gnarly though. i'm starting to think more and more that obtaining a decent (ideally amphibious) water 'mon is the next move--not only because of the defensive capabilities, but because we could possibly domesticate and breed marill or squirtle or mudkip or whatever we should find.

not to mention, if there were to be a fire, we'd lose pretty much everything, including the Skiddo. a stock of water mons to help put fires out is just another worry out of our heads.
>>
>>34099
As far as good water mons go, I'd say we should look for a clutch of Pyduck, Buizel, Wooper, Lotad, or possibly a squirtle, if we can't find the others, IMO, or maybe those 2 fossil types if possible.

Those are the only water types I can stand desu, the others are all super boring to me, personally.
>>
>>34174
Chinchou, the mouse that kills dragons now, an assortment of seabirds, catfish, the walrus ball, Bibarel, frillish.

While you might only like six water pokemon, we have a lot more people to protect, and an assortment of species that can bring new skills to the table.

I want at least one Watchog on defense, even though logically I'd never use one in combat and they look hideous.
>>
>>34174
>As far as good water mons go, I'd say we should look for a clutch of Pyduck, Buizel, Wooper, Lotad, or possibly a squirtle

B-buh magikarp...
>>
>>34099
a deep (maybe mount-rider) relationship with skiddos/gogoats is a great idea, though. like some real world tribes did with horses.

venipede would be my other choice for the role. somewhat dangerous, but docile, and any child who is especially gifted with his Venipede is rewarded with Scolipede, which would be an incredible asset to the tribe in general and would be exactly the kind of motivation that you'd want to establish the co-existing lifestyle. we'd need to have a way to cure accidental poison incidents first, though. we've already got one or two in a pen, right?

honestly, domesticating venipede, skiddo, and a water species will get us far.

>>34174
Lotad is in the marsh but we can't capture it on our own. maybe we could talk to the Wading people about getting some for us, enough to start our own breeding culture in the nearby stream. something is really aesthetically and culturally appealing about breeding and domesticating them cute-ass lilypads, and lombre/ludicolo are both powerful fighters, good for nutrition (we might even be able to eat the pineapple on top of ludicolos head without having to kill ludicolo itself) and helpful for gathering food and traversing bodies of water.

>>34174
>>34275
buizel, squirtle, marill, bidoof, and wingull all seem like potential good choices. however, we haven't encountered any of them yet. Lotad has been sighted and we have a way of obtaining it for sure.

>>34307
like i said, even if we could train it till it evolved, a gyarados would wreck our shit. that's a no-go.

so yeah, lemme do a write-up on what i think our next move should be, then.
>>
>>34275
Any water mon we get, to be effective for more than just defense, would need to be amphibious, and not need to be in water all the time. While fish can fight in mid air in the games, I'm not going to assume they can do so in this desu.
>>
>>34324
ALSOOOO, lombre evolves via stone, which we've got a setup for! everything works out!
>>
>>34275
Well, for me at least there's a minimum level of effectiveness the a mon has to have in order for me to use it if it has a hideous look. There's only a few that I will never, ever, vote for in any way shape or form, but Watchog is most assuredly one of them.

I mean, I can handle pelippers and whatnot, but watchog is my least favourite mon of all time, including shit like trubbish.
>>
>>34336
Our village is on the edge of a stream headed to open ocean, and the ocean itself s half a day journey away by foot. Plus the marsh is pretty swampy in comparison.

I'm sure some of our people could do impressive things.

Plus Bidoof would probably work double duty for forestry and firefighting.

>>34413
Watchog however have been spotted in the area. They're both tasty, and would probably work well standing guard and sounding alarms.

I'm fine if they can't hold off a dragon, but with Illuminate and Keen Eye they're probably really good at getting the attention of those who can.
>>
>>34455
Floatzel > Bibarel
>>
>>34455
>Bidoof
Should be real useful since he's the poke-universe beaver analogue, right?
>>
aight

basically, we need to first get some more stones and some more wood.

then, we can take these to the Wading people (bring ryhorn and his master to carry the wood), and ask in return for two things: 1. a few of the lily-pad frogs we saw on our initial trip, enough to start our own population. and 2. a crop of berries to help cure poison. surely, living in the swamp, these people have something useful.

in the meantime, the folks back in the village should continue methodizing the breeding and training system with the skiddos, and should maybe go out and try to obtain more of them. if we can start obtaining gogoats we can start going north en masse.

upon return, provided we were successful, we start working with the venipedes and breeding the lotads and skiddos, while making regular trips to the caves with sableye. Dart can lead hunting trips and train there, Bron can hold down the fort back home and maybe do some training in the open field in front of the gate, and Asher (us) will train during the cave trips. this would then be a good opportunity for a time-skip, too, to grow our human numbers and our Skiddo, Venipede, and Lotad numbers.

and guys, remember, we can't get ahead of ourselves. we need to make decisions based on what we know is out there, not based on what is likely to live in a certain area. we've seen lotads and watchogs, we haven't seen Bidoofs or Buizels. i don't even think we've seen Wingulls. these would all be useful but they just aren't available right now, and we need to metagame as little as possible.

does this sound good to everybody?
>>
>>34634
oh, and we can maybe start learning how to work with stones and metal in the meantime. that's my pitch.
>>
>>34634
Man, I just want a Gogoat-Cavalry. Maybe a Scolipede one too, later on. Shit'll be cash when fighting on the open plains.
>>
>>34514
>Floatzel > Bibarel

Floatzel
- Goes Fast
- Hits Hard

Bibarel
- Sturdy
- Normal STAB

They seem to both naturally learn the moves Growl and Water Gun. Otherwise they're completely different pokemon. One is a lancer that's great in combat, and the other is a more all purpose beginner monster that can be useful in a number of industries.

I'm not sure they're directly comparable like that.
>>
>>34634
>>34672

and berry cultivation too, obviously. gotta keep all these new mouths fed, and gotta always have something for poison.

>>34694
me too bro me too

gogoats = horses and scolipedes = war elephants. we'll kick ass.

>>34704
we haven't seen either of them yet. we don't even know they exist. it's not worth pursuing until we run into one, i think.
>>
>>34634
I'd say wood for monsters and berries for berries. Maybe some Skiddo milk. Honestly we should really get more Skiddos. There are only 4 in the town not including our personal one. We need probably around 10, preferably more females than male for better egg output.
>>
>>34743
heh, eggs. pokemon is weird.

and i'd argue gemstones for monsters and berries for berries. wood is good to have but they might not need it. it's a guarantee that we're the only ones with precious gems and metals cuz of sableye and our experience in the caves.
>>
>>34634
Okay so let's take things 1 step at a time.

First thing to do? I say woodcutting/mining operations are a must, it's the only thing that can open trade. We can spend time gathering pokemons while the people stockpile a trade-trip to the marsh?
>>
>>34814
First: Making Pickaxes, HardStone+Wood

Getting a second Rhyhorn so we can set up a second resource gathering team to go to the mines like we already have for the forest.

Use stone from the caves to build better homes and reinforce the walls, Stone foundation+Wooden walls, bruh.

Use fire to discover metalworking: Create better weapons that everyone else has

Throughout this we should trade to marshguys with HardStone for Lotads and berries, and to the Swiftfeet Wood or HardStone for more skiddo
Also, trade for any tech that we don't have.
>>
>>34862
This sounds good and accomplishes most of our immediate goals.

We might take a trip to the beach every now and then to train up our Skiddo. I say that with the justification that we know about evolution (cubone) and I think there was some hints that Skiddo was good against water types where our growlithe wasn't

Maybe get a Kingler or something to follow us back
>>
>>34862
Okay so we haul some stones while wood-crew does another run, we get back give them to the mining crew, they start doing the mining and we go catch a Rhyhorn. Sounds good?
>>
Explore the waters and find a Staryu, made Sableye to find a Water Stone, and hope Starme learn an ice attack to beat the shit out of Flygay.
>>
>>35336
I never knew if staryu was more of a beach pokemon or a river pokemon.
>>
>>35458
Starfish are from the oceans, and that's what they're based off of
>>
>>35515
Yeah but misty had like a pool-like gym so that's why I have a doubt. I mean it's pokemon, it's a possibility that can be found in both.
>>
>>35622
I think it's more that they can survive in any water, but their habitat that you originally find them in is the ocean
>>
>>35637
>>35622
>>35515
>>35458
According to bulbapedia
>When the sun goes down, the core glows its brightest. Many will float from the seafloor to the surface and align themselves with stars of the night sky as their core flickers, displaying a connection with the celestial bodies of space. The anime has shown that if Staryu becomes weak, its core will grow faint and flash slowly.
>Staryu can be found at the very bottom of the ocean on the seafloors or in the dark, calm waters of caves. There are times, however, when Staryu finds itself in rivers that lead into the ocean as seen in Pokémon Snap.
>>
>>36431
So cave lakes, rivers near ocean and ocean. Noice.
>>
remember, at this moment we don't know what kingler or staryu are, to say nothing of where they would be found. don't let your meta-knowledge interfere with the current situation, you might be barking up a tree that doesn't even exist.
>>
id like to get a water/ice type for the ultimate fuck flygon pokemon.

Or a kabuto, love those little buggers
>>
>>36563
>where they would be found.
the beach, silly
>>
>>36563
In fact, we don't know what type Flygon is, what its types would be weak to anyway, or even what ice types are or what they are effective against
>>
>>36672
We know it's the "Guardian of the desert" and that the desert is hot. We can assume, given that certain pokemon beat other pokemon, that a pokemon from a COLD area would probably beat one from a hot one.
>>
>>36696
Water is cold too.
>>
>>36829
Yeah, but water hits flygon for neutral damage. Granted, we don't know that in character, but one could assume that normal water isn't terribly effective since nobodies managed to ever defeat him, so we'd need something even colder to counter him
>>
>>36839
Iunno, did the other tribe have water pokemons? I can only remember the ponyta.
>>
>>36875
I'd assume yes due to their proximity to river/coast and living near the edge of the desert.

Also, the marsh tribe absolutely has water types, and they haven't managed to defeat flygon, just desert mooks. They probably used sandshrew or something anyways.
>>
>>36894
Fucking desert tribe. Time to deus vult the prehistoric pokemon world.
>>
>>36941
We should be careful though, we still don't know anything else about them besides the Flygon. They could have something else dangerous that we don't know about
>>
>>36966
According to the other tribe, the Flygon was the big deal, the rest of their mons were small time. If we defeat the Flygon we could probably fend off any attacks.
>>
>>36966
Desert means ground or rock, grass at worst. The former would get wrecked by proper skiddo use, the latter we can burn with growlithe, or poison with venipede. Rock on the other hand gets their shit stomped by Marowak and Skiddo.

Well, at worst would really be Ground/Psychic FUCKING CLAYDOL, but we can still use sableye, which would be immune to psychic
>>
>>36941
this game and the cultural evolution thread are gonna mash up eventually

or at the very least I'm gonna start mixing them up
