Flesh and bones surrounded your fragile soul. Warmth radiated from your true soul, yet. your new body was cold; your heart didn't beat. No... you didn't belong to the plane of man. you were something else....

"Rise from your naught, Vessel of ashes. Rise and aid us in our blight" these words resonated in your soul. you were surrounded by an endless sea of long forgotten ash untampered in ages. A corpse slept next to you. You felt some sort of familiarity with it. It held weapons and armour just for you....

An ash riddled club was by its side. You grabbed said weapon, it was crude and battered but it would serve you well. You almost failed to notice a crackled plank shield strapped on its back, by the looks of it, it was liable to break at any moment.

"Transverse The Ashen end, Vessel of Ash, unbind me from my shackles and i shall serve you and you only." said words resonated in your head.

You headed east, you felt death looming around you.Limbs, heads and other body parts would occasionally jot from the ashen hills.Fear, pain, agony were written on their hollow faces.

A three legged dog was limping its way to an untouched corpse. it lost its inside long ago, this wasn't hunger or instinct. no...it was the urge for destruction. the corpse looked very fresh, barely in the early stages of rotting. It was however stripped of almost everything visible. why would anyone venture in these lands of sorrow?

you ignored the mindless beast, you were as fragile as that rotting corpse; your pitiful excuse for a weapon wouldn't do you good against stronger foes.

From the daunting hills, a great arrow was loosened, it struck the ground ahead of you. The greatarrow was made out of bones which oozed a sliver like substance. You head a rambling of an old man, it echoed in the sunless skies.

Despite his warning, you charged onwards. His aim was true as a great arrow was struck pinning you to the ground.

As your life was ebbing way, you heard his "I did it! I kill her again! I did it heheheehahaee!"

_____YOU DIED_____

it was your first time experiencing death. Being snatched back from the world of the dead to this desolate world broke something in you. You were missing your petty weapons and shields. You found yourself next to the corpse whom you took the club from.

This time, however, a scrawny little man was waiting for your arrival, he had various scales sprouting over his skin, he hid his uneven face behind a strange wooden mask. A small sack was snitched to his back and a crude dagger replaced his left hand.

"Greeting great vessel, I am kesp the bastard. Your first death must be devastating, no wonder. Say, how will you fare against this harsh world with naught but your bare hands? let this troubles you no more! For my kin are known to be excellent scavengers."

He paused, giving little attention to your face; his eyes were pinned to your feet " For a measly fee, i can offer my help to bring whatever your corpse held. now, what says you?"

You felt weakness in his deformed body and so you grabbed him by the neck and slammed him into the ground.

Your brute strength combined with you over-weighing him pinned him to the ground, his dagger did make a scar near your chest but that was all.

"But....why?" were his last words.

One of the hollows has dropped:

>A thoughtful dream

A manifestation of a dream tangled with one's soul. 'Warmth' is the only aspect interpreted in said dream.

Alas, a ruined structure lied in the horizon. However, said ruins were surrounded by various hollows, chained together via their feeble neck forming a pitiful excuse for an obstacle.

All the chains originated from the collar of a giant dog-like creature with arrows, swords and axes sticking out of its skin. It was drifting in a peaceful sleep.

It roared in anger and started to flail the feeble hollows towards you crushing their fraigle structures in the process. You miraculously dodged some of these wild attacks as they were highly inaccurate.

A strange whistle was heard from the ruins. It calmed down the raging beast. Once again, i went back to slumber.

You made your way to the very top of the tower, A vengeful gust obscured the majority of the field. However, you could spot the sleeping Watchdog and a small village near the location of the man with the greatbow.

A perfectly intact Ballista occupied the majority of the tower's tilted roof. Its front wheels were rails in a strange mechanism unbeknownst to you, it did allow this war machine to rotate around the axis of the tower. Only one bolt was available.

Nothing.

A void of churning abyss awaited you by the north. As if the world halted in this very spot.

A young woman was admiring the scenery, her hair was oozing black substance, She obscured her face under a faint yellow peculiar mask which only exposed her pale forehead. She wore a grey robe with black circular patterns, her feet were once shackled together as were her hands.

A small ornate dagger rested on her breasts while an unknown medium for the dark was coiled around her waist.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" She sighed "Are you too a dark pligrim?"

She paused shifting her attention to the depths below "No matter, you will plea to the abyss sooner or later. I am Shard Livenne, a true follower of the abyss. I do intend to stay here until i finish my pilgrimage. Should you kneel to the abyss, you will find a powerful ally by your side."

The Watchdog withered in pain as it was pinned to the ground via the large bolt. Its death was slow and painful to watch.

you headed straight for the ruins, a desperate whistle echoed in the air as you were approaching.

A lone figure stood in the middle of the ruins. A tower of a man, Like his Watchdog, he was chained to the ruins itself. its arm were cut off and his legs were badly injured, A bloodied whistle was sewn to his lips. his voice was getting sore from endless whistles.

Although, he spent most of his days here on his knees. you couldn't even reach the end of his belly; five or six of him might match the tower from earlier.

When he grew desperate, the handler stood up.

"MMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!MMMMMMMMRAAGH!!!!"

The death of his beloved Watchdog triggered a tempest of pure rage. he started to pull out the chains binding him only to flail it at your direction. One stomp of his might end you in a second.

You escaped the ruins through a crack in the wall. You saw it coming towards the ruins.

The watchdog of Yhar.

It left an oozing trail on its wake, it didn't mind the bolt at all. Instead, it went to its master to guard his corpse and the ruins itself.

With nowhere to go, you headed back to the tower. The lone hollow was slain by a knight of sorts in a sickly dark green armour, it was covered by loose and filthy wraps. The knight in question had glaring hole in his helm exposing his right undead eye. He rested by his greenish greatsword.

"Quite a performance, oh mighty vessel." his word were full of poison "You killed the only man capable of hindering the true potential of this beast. My task will be thrice as hard now...."

He didn't like your silent and hollow gaze at him "I care not of your goals or you for that matter. That way i see it, both of us want to free someone inside of these ruins. "Come on you piece of filth! show me your mettle." with unseen bravery, the plague knight took on the watchdog by himself. His moves were swift and precise.

Long ago,A simple man and his dog were among many to guard a beautiful sanctuary. When the war drums echoed in this forgotten kingdom, The sanctuary was turned into a prison, a dungeon for the good and the wicked alike.

Yhar was granted a terrible curse by one of the prisoners which led to the current state of the sanctuary. He and his dog were bound to this place till the end of times.

Caution is a must; for there is still a handful of prisoners in the sanctuary.

You could sleep as well, but it lacked any taste.

.

.

You 'woke' up the next day before Heldenmutt. The Watchdog and the handler's corpse were already rotting. you approached the handler's mouth and cut off his large whistle

>Yhar's whistle

a peculiar whistle fashioned from Deadwood. Calms down dogs and other related Kin.

It was sewn to the handlers for years and years . A foul breath is to expected,

The two of you entered the main structure, rows of rusty cells and cages greeted you both. There was none alive in the vicinity.

The plague knight searched every cell but the result remained the same "Curses! Where is he?!"

You heard something resonating in your soul "Closer, vessel of Ash, closer...." you found yourself at a lonely cell with a wrapped corpse, its left hand was extended in the air. you somehow wanted to land a gentle kiss on the rotten hand.

In a blink, the corpse morphed into a grey haired woman, the wrappings fell revealing a long black robe unscathed by time. A distinctive silver ring shined on her other hand. Her skin was milky and healthier than anyone you might think of, her smooth eyes were basking in your presence.

Her lips, her body language, her eyes.... all spoke of affection towards you.

"I am yours, vessel of ash. I don't bear any name but i know my purpose. I am an Firekeeper in a world without flames. I shall guide you to rekindle the age of fire. the age of warmth....you shall make this world a better place, Vessel of Ash. Follow me...."

you wanted to find Heldenmutt first, but the plague knight was no where to be seen, He was have left while you were busy with the nameless firekeeper.

"This way." her voice was soothing, she descended to the lower levels of the sanctuary, it was getting darker with each step.

The two of you reached a locked door, it long fluffy feather all of it "Vessel of Ash, this door was not meant to be opened. The king of these lands locked unspeakable horrors here. For our sake, don't open the door."

You nodded in agreement, before descending further in the sanctuary. The firekeeper unlocked a small door at the end of the hallway. Warmth radiated from the large hall.

"As i live and dream!" the firekeeper cried over the sight of an actual bonfire .She collapsed from joy.

"Vessel of Ash, this is where many lords of cinder linked the first flame. To link the first flame, we require five powerful souls:

Mithrim, the whole shard. He is the vessel of the dark flame. The dark flame of man

The Holy dreams of Livendagen. They are the vessel of the sacred flame, the flame of gods

Holy Knight Lukus , She is the preserver of the white flame. the flame of pure men

Loaane, the unsavory beast. It is the devourer of the wild flame, the uncontrolled flame of beasts

Tears of Chaos. The forgotten offspring of the witches of Izalith. The Vessel for the chaos flame.

And you, the Vessel of Ash, keeper of flickers of the first flame.

Fire will never fade, Vessel of Ash. Once all the vessels are here..."

And that concludes our thread, thank you for participating.

cool

kudos to you for being one of the first quests on the new board
>>
>>9746
i am honestly surprised by the alarming amount of joke quests. it will get better, i hope.
>>
>>9765
it's just people being attracted by the big "new board" sign and also the quests from the other boards coming in

i'm more worried about how offsite archiving will be handled
>>
we are still alive? what a surprise.

I am open to suggestion about some rules/stats because not everything is set in stone.

I would like to approach this quest with as little rules as possible relying on the occasional roll but that might just be me.
>>
>>10954
that should be fine
>>
>>11008
i might continue later this day, should i start a new one or should i just keep it here?

keep it here, you still have some time
and even if the thread autosages, it's not as if there was many threads to push you back, lol

alright, we are back again.

just a quick round up for all what we have:

Name: None (Vessel, Vessel of Ash...etc)

Class: Deprived
Souls: 6000
inventory:

>Tatterted garment
>Short Bow
>21 wooden arrow
>Broken spear
>Yhar Whistle
>Twisted Soul of a Watchdog
>bottomless box

Stats:

STR: 10
DEX: 10
INT: 10
FTH: 10

Higher stats will allow the vessel to wield advanced weapons, it will also make rolling parameter less punishing.

"Vessel of Ash, this is your new home. It will shelter you from the horrors of outside. The sanctuary will always welcome anyone who you deem worthy. Allow me to aid in your plight, oh mighty vessel; i shall empower you with the souls you harbor."

You felt a rush of power radiating from the firekeeper. Somehow, you feel more able to face the world.

"Pardon me, Great vessel, this process...exerts me greatly. I will require some rest. Do talk to me once you finished exploring the Ashen End, then we will begin our true journey, together."

The firekeeper rest her head on a nearby chair. In mere moments, she drifted to another world.

Soon you exited the sanctuary onto the ruins, a gust of Ash greeted you as well as a pack of rabid dogs festering on the handler and his watchdog, they didn't seem to notice you just yet.

The Whistle had an undying taste in it, you could taste rotten flesh. After using it, you coughed and almost puked. You didn't want to touch this thing for some time.

You headed to the west. The stretches of Ash were you sole companion until you found yourself over-viewing a fight to the death.

A man in primitive garbs decorated with teeth, ears and other body parts. He wielded a bloody axe in one hand while the other was charred in his flames.

A woman, in a blue gentle robe. she hid her face under her hood. She had a measly dagger and a white staff made of wood. Both were fighting over a small chest next to them, a couple of dead hollows littered the ground as well.

You chose not to interfere, The woman was the first to notice your presence but she stayed focused on her foe.

The pyromancer was reckless yet brutal, the sorcerer was cunning and precise. She became cocky after slashing him in the chest with a quick flashsword.

After a headbutt full of rage, the pyromancer cleaved her petit head over and over again. In a few moments, there was nothing left of her. The cut of her ears and added them to his collection. A few stands of hair were locked around his wrist.

The pyromancer panted heavily as he summoned an orb of warmth. Said orb didn't provide any warmth but it was slowly closing his wounds.

He huddled to the small chest. His voice was raspy and old "Carrions, all of you....would you like to share the same fate with this wench?"

"Good, A bit strange to find a sane one in the end of the world. what is your purpose, wanderer?" The man was a bit relaxed than before.

He seemed surprised "A Vessel of Ash? You look like a vessel of piss and shite to me. Loaane would churn you to naught, the holy dreams would wisp your soul, fuse it in their unending dream. No. Abandon your fool's quest. You will live longer."

The pyromancer stood up, he stripped everything useful on the deceased sorcerer " I am Neegel of the black Marshes. When comforted by any of my kin, Just utter my name. They will understand. I do expect a favour the next time we cross paths. A safe travels to you, 'mighty vessel'. "

The pyromancer was heading for the village up north.

you kept heading west, You found a large fleshy snake coiling itself around some sort of a well. Corpses littered the scene, all of them seem to retain their souls for some reason.

The snake had no eyes, only a gaping maw and countless oozing wounds on its sides, the ground turned red from said wounds.

>Try to snatch anything useful, run afterwards [15-20]

We can fight the snake later. Go North.
>>
>>13075
You ignored the coiling menace and headed up north.

On the way, you found a corpse of a traveler of sorts. It was mostly stripped but a binocular was left behind, you took it.

You found dozens of corpses kneeling towards grim shrine at the end of a cliff. Some were still breathing, they were crying to their deaths. A handful of hollows wandered around the corpses probably guarding them. Every last one of them was wielding a dark scythe dripping black substance on the blighted ground.

The remnants of a gate caught your attention, A blue tinted hollow had pile of black robes next to him, he extended his arms with a folded robe resting on his hands.

A gleam caught your attention, you picked up a Twisted dagger

>Twisted dagger

A sacrificial dagger fashioned for pilgrims should they fail their pilgrimage.

Few blacksmiths dare to touch this dark dagger; a miasma of black death awaits those who would alter it.

Your petty thievery has enraged the scythe wielding hollows, they screeched in anger, the ten of them were heading at your way.

>Run away [10-20]

As you were running to the shrine, you were struck by an orb of darkness in the back by the hollow at the gate, with no armour, it ate through the flesh of your back.

Helpless, you withered in the ground, more hollow approached you, ready to end you for your transgression.

"Stop." a soft voice ordered the hollows, a small man descended from the shrine towards the crowd you gather, he wore a silky black robe exposing a small portion of his soft, scarless midriff. he wore a black coronet with a black gem in the middle. a thin veil did a fine job in obscuring his face, his pale lips weren't covered.

"Why do you disturb us, petty thief? we cause no harm to those around us." the man shriveled when he sensed the true warmth inside your body.

"A vessel of Ash...how quaint. Bringer of sorrow, will you pledge yourself to serve the dark lord? Will you abandon the pointless dream of a new age of fire?"

_____YOU DIED_____

You headed to the south. You were surprised to find a body of water there. it would reach your waist at the deepest reach.

The land below your feet....it didn't feel right; it was slimy in nature. You could almost feel it...pulsating.

Out of the shallow water, a couple of gelatinous bodies rose from their slumber, they had the exact nature of the floor of this peculiar sea. They resembled some sort of a budding swaying itself left and right at a snail's pace.

Their unsettling smile on their 'face' troubled you the most, they were approaching you, very, very slowly.

You headed to the east, you stumbled upon a band of dead warriors, all of them were struck by a greatarrow.

As expected, they were stripped clean but there was this one warrior with a mighty greataxe fit his bulky structure.

it was too heavy for you to handle [20 STR], you tucked it in your bottomless box for the future.

in the furtherest regions of the Ashen end, you found a walled off area. The wall was made from men and limestone, like the tower, it stood defiant against time.

A young man was kneeling on the ground, his attire was bloodied. Looks like he was praying to his gods. He held a chime in his left hand and a mace in his other. Despite his young age, most of his hair turned white. a corpse lied next to him, a woman wearing the exact attire of his.
