Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkword creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

You are Ryoji Shida. A transfer student and delinquent who ended up in the school by mistake, with no fighting ability, but you may have a stronger connection to the Darkworld than thought possible.

Two weeks have passed since the battle with Yamato. So much damage was caused during that fight, you're all still recovering from it. The most obvious effect you're all still reeling from is Rei. She still hasn't woken up, and has been confined to a bed in Tekina's office. Akira rarely leaves her side, and you've made sure to visit her every day. Class 3 meanwhile are still picking up the shattered pieces of their psyche in silence. You heard that Taka recently decided to pay visit to the girl he put into a coma, but Akira wouldn't allow it. From what you've heard, Taka was a real jerk even before Yamato started controlling him, but even he's capable of remorse.

There was a stranger occurrence in the aftermath of that battle, however. Or rather, in the aftermath of Alice arriving in the real world. In the past two weeks, there has been no sign of the Darkworld. None at all. It was confusing at first, when night would come and you weren't transported into that dimension, but as it kept happening over and over again your emotions changed from confusion to relief to eventually, for whatever reason, fear. You never thought you'd feel afraid of the Darkworld going away... but what's terrifying you is the unknown. Nobody has any idea why the Darkworld has decided to go dormant. If what Yamato said was true, the place Alice held dominion over wasn't the Darkworld, but rather a mirror image of her own design. Did the act of her creating that world and causing it look into ours somehow seal the real Darkworld off? Whatever the reason, Alice has remained little help, with her answers cryptic and her mind wandering.

Speaking of Alice, the school staff were so confused on what to do with her. At first, she was given a bed in Tekina's office, where the nurse could peacefully run experiments and Alice had a place to stay. At some point, some genius had the thought that they should re-enroll Alice as a student, and trying to give her the education she never had. She got dumped into the first year class and things kind of... mellowed out from there.

The last two weeks haven't all been pain and confusion, however. Oddly enough, bandying together to fight a common enemy really brought the students of Class 2 closer together as a group, and as the first terms exams have finished up and as summer vacation is on the horizon, you can safely say that the entire class feels like a tight-knit group of friends, even those who never got along to begin with. From Akio and Ken, to Rini and Sayeka... hell, you and Saki are now openly the best of pals. Sure, the two of you still argue all the time, but that comes with the conflicting personalities.

The Darkworld seems to be gone, though nobody truly believes it's gone for good. Still, this blessing has allowed Dark Gate Academy to function as a normal school for a while, with the students being afforded much more time to hang out, have fun, and learn a lot more about each-other every day.

“Good morning! We made you guy's breakfast!”

For instance, today's the day you learn that Saki and Hoshi can't cook.

“I don't think eggs are supposed to be this... darkened,” Ken mumbles.

“O-oh... is there something wrong with it?” Hoshi whines in her high-pitched voice. Damn, she looks about ready to start the water-works already.

“No, no! There's nothing wrong!” Ken protests, waving his hands. “It looks delicious!”

“It better!” Saki crosses her arms, smiling. “We worked real hard on that! The least you could do is be appreciative!”

Yeah, but you don't remember asking Saki to make the whole dorm breakfast.
“So Ryoji, are you coming tonight?” she asks.

You raise an eyebrow. “Coming to what?”

Saki pouts. “There's a festival being held in town tonight, remember? I want the whole class to come along!”

“A festival? This is the first I've heard of it,” you reply, trying to eat what little of the egg on your plate isn't completely blackened.

“But I've invited you tons of times!” Saki exclaims.

You shake your head. “What? No you haven't!”

Saki smirks and slams her hands down on the counter before dramatically pointing at you, like she was some kind of fancy lawyer about to make her big case. “A-ha! I knew it! I added those invitations to the bottom of every written warning I've issued you in the last week for your delinquency! If you don't know about the festival, then that means you haven't been reading them!”

“Wow... that's pretty smart...” Hoshi mumbles, impressed.

Saki beams proudly. “Yes, once again the delinquent Ryoji Shida has been thwarted by the Saki Kobashi, Ace Detective!”

You give a sarcastic slow clap. “Wow, you got me. I'll admit it, I never read any of your stupid written warnings. I supposed I'll be serving 25 to life for this heinous crime?”

Saki huffs. “If it were up to me, yes! Now, answer the question! Are you coming to the festival or not?”

Kinda sad it wasn't a hard cut to the nurse's office. But on the other hand, it would be a really depressing beginning. That said, todays mission will be trying to get Akira to leave the office, if only for an evening.

>No need to yell. Of course I'll go.
>I'm certain that if I said no, you'll find a way to drag me along anyway...

"You're darn right I would!" Saki exclaims. "This is going to be a lot of fun! There's be game stalls, goldfish scooping, all us girls will get to wear Yukatas..."

"And fireworks," you chime in, reminding her of the only interesting part. "We'll get to shoot fireworks, right?"

Saki gasps. "Fireworks? Ryoji, you should know how dangerous that is! I won't allow it! We can have fun with safer methods, like... floating lanterns!"

Oh great, Saki's determined to take the one interesting thing about these festivals away from you. Not if you can help it...

"Alice also said she wanted to come," Ken remarks. "That'd be interesting to see. It'll be her first time out of the school since... well, since she was human."

You turn your head towards Ken. "You've been talking to Alice a lot lately, haven't you?"

Ken nods. "Of course, I am interested in her... uhh, not interested in her! Not that kind of interested! I mean I find her interesting! Everything she's gone through... she needs someone to help her get reorientated into the real world."

"And that person should be you?" you tease.

"I didn't see anyone else stepping up to the plate... besides Chihiro, and I don't know what Alice's niece would want to fill her head with. I think I'm a reasonable guy who can help her out," Ken explains.

"Sure," you smirk, "And I'm certain you're not picturing Alice in a Yukata right now..."

"Why, do you think she'll wear one?" Ken blurts out. "I mean-!"

"Eh, save it, I'm just messing with you."

Saki smiles. "So, with you on board, that means we've got almost everyone in class coming along!"

"Almost everyone?" you ask.

"Well... I mean there's Rei... and Akira," Saki's smile fades.

You should have guessed. It sucks that Rei can't be awake to spend time with the class, and Akira's not going to leave her side for the sake of a festival...

>It's a real drag... but what can we do?

Shinji

>Neutral Evil
Raiden
Taka
Nina
Maro
Lilo

>Chaotic Evil
Kamiko
Yasutake
Alice

Where does everyone fot now?

I think Shinji is Lawful Neutral. Nina and Maro are True Neutral. Lilo is Chaotic or Neutral Good. Taka, Yatsutaka Kimiko and Alice are Chaotic Neutral.

What about you guys?

>I'll talk to Akira, see if I can get her to come along.

"You will?" Saki asks, with a concerned face. "Well... good luck. I hope you can get her to come along. I'm real worried about her."

After breakfast is finished... and by finished, you mean enough time has passed that you don't feel bad throwing out the burnt monstrosity, Saki grabs a bag as she and a few other girls get ready to head out. "Okay! Time to buy ourselves some Yukatas! See you guys later!"

As the clear out of the dorm, heading into town, Ken nudges you on the elbow. "Now, I bet you're imagining Saki in one of those things..."

"Shut up," you laugh back. "You're going to make me sick."

Maybe Ken's right... maybe you did picture what she would look like in one of those gowns, but you were picturing the same for all the girls!

Whatever, it's time to make your morning visit to the nurses' office. This is going to be... difficult. Even during the times you've visited, Akira has remained closed off, even more silently than she usually was. She wouldn't speak unless you spoke to her first, and sometimes she just wouldn't speak to you at all.

You enter Tekina's office to the usual sight, Rei lying on the bed, hooked up to a heart monitor, with Akira sitting right by her, holding her hand and staring sullenly. You approach the bed and pull up a stool on the side opposite Akira. Every time you visite, you're still amazed at how beautiful Rei looks, even in her condition.

"You know, I realised something recently," you say. Akira doesn't left her head to acknowledge you, but you continue anyway. "I still haven't properly apologised to the two of you for keeping that whole Darkworlder thing a secret."

"Don't worry," Akira mutters. "You can save it for when Rei wakes up."

Yeah... when she wakes up. You hate to say it, and you'd never say it out loud, but Rei's condition sure as hell isn't getting better. It's really more of a case of if she wakes up. "Okay... I'll apologise to Rei then. I can still apologise to you now, right?"

Akira slowly nods.

"Sorry, Akira."

"It's fine. I was never angry with you," Akira explains. "I just wanted to go with Rei. Make sure she didn't do anything reckless."

You nod. Pretty much what you expected from Akira. You never realised how hard it was to talk to her without Rei being the bridge in conversation. Before, Rei seemed to be all Akira could talk about, and now her dependency on Rei had gotten much worse.

"Hey..." you begin, unsure exactly of how to make the offer. "There's a festival in town tonight. Most of the class are going, and I thought that maybe you'd like to-"

"Sorry, Ryoji." Akira cuts you off. "I need to be here for when she wakes up."

>Akira, she isn't going to wake up tonight. It isn't healthy for you to stay by her side all this time.
>Akira, I get that you're focused on being there for Rei... but don't forget that we're here for you.

I can't be the only one that sees how easy it would be to take this the wrong way. It's essentially her rival asking to take her place, that would probably earn him a good, well-deserved, punch to the face. Let's just offer some words of comfort and make sure she's okay before leaving.
>>
>>181669
The point is making her realize that she too is worth something, not that we should promote her lack of self interest. The point is making her move on if she doesn't wake up, taking her position for a day won't solve anything

>Akira, I get that you're focused on being there for Rei... but don't forget that we're here for you.

Akira doesn't answer you immediately, instead taking the time to lean over Rei's bed, gently stroking her face with her hand. "Thank you, Ryoji... but that doesn't matter. I'm staying here with Rei... it's my responsibility."

The hurt look on Akira's face... she wasn't the most cheerful person before, but she hasn't smiled at all since the incident with Rei. Seeing the pain in her eyes every time you visit... it stabs your gut like a knife.

You place a comforting hand on Akira's shoulder. "You really care for her, huh?"

Akira nods. "Rei's very important to me. She's all that matters in my world."

There's a brief silence before Akira speaks up. "Don't let me stop you from having fun at the festival, Ryoji. And thank Saki for thinking of me."

"How did you-"

"It definitely wasn't your idea," Akira answers. "Had to be her."

You nod and take your hand off Akira's shoulder. "I hope she wakes up tonight. I really do."

You pull a candy bar from your pocket, one you took from a vending machine earlier, and place it down on the bedside table beside Akira.

As you step out of the office and let out a deep breath, you are bumped into by someone walking briskly down the hallway. Someone who happens to be wearing a lot of armour, and almost knocks you right off your feet. You turn your head and see Nina from Class 3 bounding down the hallway, without giving so much as an apology.

>Rude. Whatever, you're not going to let that bother you.

Class 3 have been keeping to themselves lately, so you're not going to bother trying to get involved in any of their business. As long as they aren't trying to hunt you or anyone else down anymore, you'll let them be.

You wander around the mostly empty school hallways. They aren't usually filled to begin with, but with it being a weekend, and all the Class 2 girls away buying Yukatas, it's like a ghost town. You walk out into the school courtyard to find a small gathering of guys from your class, who seem to be having a heated discussion.

"What's up?" you ask, entering the small circle which include Kosuke, Hiro, Akio, Seishiro and Isamu.

"We were just talking about the festival tonight," Seishiro replies, "Mainly on how it's a perfect opportunity to score with some of the girls!"

"That's not what we intended the conversation to be about," Hiro complains under his breath, "But these guys took it there anyway."

"Think about it! These festivals are the most romantic things ever. The sights, the sounds, those gowns the girls wear... if we get our hands on some fireworks, it's panty central!" Seishiro boasts. "Of course, before that happens, we have to divvy up who's going for which girls, so we aren't stepping on each-others toes."

"Okay... well, I think I'll be spending the evening with my girlfriend," Kosuke replies nonchalantly. "You know, because I have a girlfriend, unlike all of you."

"That's fine with me!" Seishiro replies. Did he expect Kosuke to think he'd protest? "I'll be putting the moves on Sayeka!"

"Good luck with that," Kosuke fires back. "Haven't you realised she isn't interested in anyone of us? She's so freaking aloof and detached, I don't know how she got popular."

"Because she's hot, obviously."

"Whatever, just so you guys know, I'm finally going to make it somewhere with Hikaru!" Akio claims. "She loves this festival crap, and I'm going to win her every single prize at those stalls. Tonight's the night, I can feel it."

>Somehow, I doubt that.

"Thanks," Akio replies, "But no... we're not dating yet. Damn... she told me all I needed to do was to ask for the permission of her parents, which I did!"

"You did?" you reply. "How'd that go?"

"Well... they said no," Akio explains, "But I still thought it would be enough! I thought she wanted me to ask as some show of how dedicated I was... I didn't realise I actually had to get their permission!"

"I don't see why you're going through all this trouble," Seishiro replies. "I mean, she's kinda cute, but she's nothing special. Plus, she's one of those Wait-until-marriage types. That's so not for you, Aki."

"Who says it's not?" Akio protests. "You've got to trust me on this one, Seishiro. All the crap I'm going through will be worth it when I'm taking her out to a nice sushi place, walking along the streets together, maybe cuddling by the lake until the sun comes up..."

Seishiro raises and eyebrow, causing Akio to retract his statement. "I mean, it'll be worth it when I bang her... or whatever."

Seishiro shrugs. "Whatever, Aki. What about you Isamu? You want to lay claim to anyone?"

"OF COURSE I WOULD!" Isamu booms. "I CHOOSE-"

"Just one, remember."

"-ALL OF... Wait, just one?! That's unreasonable! All of those ladies are fine Goddesses who need me to be their hero!"

"Sorry, I don't make the rules," Seishiro replies. You think of pointing out that he is the one making rules here, but you feel explaining that to him would prove too difficult.

"What about you, Hiro?"

Hiro shakes his head. "I just want to go to the festival and have fun. I don't really want to hit on any girls..."

"I see," Seishiro mutters, "Then we'll pair you with a girl who's more your speed! Perhaps Hoshi? Or maybe Nariko? Or the pirate girl..."

"But I don't want to-"

"No protesting, Hiro! We'll get you a girl yet!"

"You guys are all idiots..." you mutter, shaking your head.

"You're one to talk!" Seishiro fires back, "The whole reason we're having this discussion is because of you!"

"What the hell are you talking about?" you ask.

Seishiro begins to rattle off examples on his hand. "Let's see, you've made out with Rei... You're always flirting with Chihiro... you spend a night cuddling with Akemi, AND she's seen you naked... you've paid visit to Nariko's little hut out back a few times... you and pirate-girl have been seen going into a forest clearing during lunch-break and not coming out for ages... even the Darkworld chick has been in your bed. Hell, even Sayeka asked you on a date once, and you had the gall to turn her down! Not to mention whatever the hell you've got going with Saki... admit it Ryoji, you're trying to gain a monopoly on every girl! This is a school, not your personal harem!"

Seishiro stamps his foot on the ground. "Dammit, you can't just lay claim to every single girl in school. It's about time you picked and left the rest of us alone! What's next, you're going to hit on Hikaru? Or Rini? Or the school nurse?"

You laugh. "You're over-reacting. Besides, you don't get to put a limit on what girls I can talk to."

"Like hell I can't! We're all sticking to one girl tonight! If I catch you trying to put the moves on more than one chick, I'll be on you so fast, you won't know what hit you!"

"Great now even you're flirting with me," you joke. "I guess everyone wants a piece of the Ryo."

Seishiro huffs as he walks off. Kosuke approaches you and nudges you on the arm. "So... you ready for some fireworks."

"I was," you begin, "But Saki seems determined to make sure that never happens."

"And you've let Saki stop you from having fun... when exactly?"

"Good point."

>LATER, AT THE FESTIVAL

"Ah, it's about time you arrived!" Chihiro exclaims, running up to you and Ken as you make your way to the main festival grounds. It's a surprisingly large festival for the size and population of the village... though you suspect this crowd may just be everyone in town. Some kids run by you excitedly as Chihiro grabs you by the collar.

"So, what do you think?" She asks, spinning around and posing in her garment.

"It looks great on you," Ken answers, thought you're certain Chihiro wanted to hear it from you. "Is Alice around here?"

"Of course! You think I'd let my aunt out of my sight?" Chihiro grins. "She's just grabbing some food from one of the vendors. That girl sure can eat!"

As you take a step forward, Chihiro stops you. "Oh, it's great that you decided to come! You should have heard Saki while we were trying on these yukatas in the store. She was so excited to know that you would be here! I wonder why, huh?"

She laughs and gives a playful wink. Maybe you should find Saki first and talk to her. After all, bringing the class to the festival was her idea in the first place... though you can't see her in the crowd.

>Go look for Saki

Saki probably wouldn't forgive you if you didn't go looking for her right away. Besides, you actually do want to hang out with her at the festival. And sure... maybe you do want to see what she looks like in a Yukata, but that's just out of simple curiosity. Chihiro cheerfully grabs you by the shoulders and points you in the direction she last saw Saki at. As you navigate your way through the crowd at the festival, you keep your eyes open for Saki, wherever she may be. Think... she definitely won't be at any of the cool stalls, but what stalls are lame and boring enough for her to love?

As you continue your search, your attention is grabbed by a strange figure in the crowd wearing a black hood. He's moving silently among the people, though you can make out his face as it's shrouded by the hood. Before you know what you're doing, you find yourself following the suspicious figure. You find yourself pushing past people in order to clear distance between you and the hooded man. He rounds a corner, and you do the same... only to find him gone. Disappeared.

You stand in confusion until you are approached from behind. "You saw him too, didn't you?"

"Sayeka?" you turn around and... whoa. Sayeka in a yukata is... something to behold. Now you realise why she's so popular. She knows how to wear them, and she looks beautiful and graceful as she glides to your side. "Do you know what that guy was all about?"

"No, but you felt compelled to chase him, didn't you?" Sayeka asks. "I've seen this. These events... I've seen them before in my mind."

You raise an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? What events? What have you seen?"

Sayeka lets out a sigh. "Ryoji, I think it's time I revealed to you something about myself. Come, let's walk."

As you follow Sayeka, wandering through the festival grounds, she begins to explain. "When we first entered the Darkworld, we all develop abilities upon our awakening. We were stronger, faster, more skilled... and some of us developed abilities beyond that. Hiro has his shields, you have your healing... though I suspect that may come from a different source."

"Okay... so what are you telling me? You've got a special gift I don't know about?"

"One that nobody but myself knows about," Sayeka explains. "You see, Ryoji... I can see things. Before they happen."

"What, like precognition?" you ask.

"Yes. It's always hazy... but at all times, I'm able to glimpse into a possible future. Only mere glimpses, and never too far ahead."

>You're joking, right? You're telling me you're psychic?
>And why are you only telling me this now? And why only me?
>If that's true, then why don't you try to stop all the bad crap before it happens?

Not going to deny that. But I kind of appreciate that about him. If we ever get to know him more, maybe there will be a reason for his behaviour. Aside from him being a teenager.

>And why are you only telling me this now? And why only me?

"Originally, I didn't want anyone to know," Sayeka explains. "For them to know about my ability would lead to questions they only think they want answers to. If I were to tell them about my more... negative visions, they would try to change them. And trying to change it can lead to much worse outcomes than my original visions. I know this from experience."

"What do you mean?"

Sayeka pauses, hesitant to answer. "One time, when we were in the Darkworld... I caught a glimpse of a worm-like monster rising up from the ground and swallowing Raiden whole. In retaliation, I moved Raiden out of the way."

"Okay... then what?" you ask.

"Then... the worm killed Maya instead."

"...Oh."

"Yes. I would appreciate it if you didn't tell others of my ability."

You nod. "But why are you telling me now?"

"Because all of my recent visions involve you, and what I've seen... I can't let them happen. That hooded man... he was spying on you. There's another here spying on Alice. I don't know who they are, or what they want, but they're a part of something bigger. Something huge... and a threat. My mind refuses to give me the details, but what I've seen... the outcome is very bad."

"What? Like my death?"

"Like all of our deaths, Ryoji."

>Well... that's terrifying.
>What do you mean? We're all going to die soon?!
>You've... seen all of us die? That's got to be rough.

Seconded
>>
>>182167
If she's seen all of us die and her visions can't be changed since they end up being worse, wouldn't that just be a dead end? Or is it that she herself can't change them?
>>
>>182207
good point
>>
>>182207
It would be, but it's not that changing them DOES make things worse. It simply CAN make things worse. It's not an absolute.
>>
>>182207
It's not that trying to change it necessarily always makes the outcome worse, just that it's a possibility to end up happening. It's a gamble as to whether you get a better or worse outcome with the new timeline created by avoiding the old one.
If she's seeing things ending in a party wipe clusterfuck in the nearish future then it's probably worth her gambling and telling us (Ryo) to try and avoid that path.

>You've... seen all of us die? That's got to be rough.

Sayeka stops walking and remains still. "Ryoji, my vision are thankfully not always accurate. I only get a glimpse of a possible outcome than can still be changed by external forces other than my own. That doesn't change the fact that I've seen Saki die 19 times. I've seen Akio die 34 times. I've seen Seishiro killed in an act of recklessness 42 times. I've seen our class stabbed, beaten, broken, eaten, burned, flayed... and now, all I can see is all of us dying. For the last week, every vision I've had has been this one. I can't see any other outcome in the future... and that is why I have to act now."

"But aren't you worried that trying to change this could lead to an even worse outcome?" you ask.

"What worse outcome is there? There can be nothing worse than what I've seen."

"But what are we supposed to do? If you don't know who they are or what they want, what do we have to go off of?"

"I don't know," Sayeka replies. "This won't be easy, but we need to get to the bottom of this."

The two of you begin to walk again, side by side in complete silence. Eventually, you pipe up. "You've really seen us die that many times?"

"Yes..." Sayeka mutters, "And I feel the pain and grief every time I do. It never softens."

"Damn... I'm sorry," you reply. Not wonder she's so distant and aloof all the time. Probably the same reason why she never takes a boyfriend... maybe it's also why she dropped out of becoming class president? Did she see a bad outcome in that?

"We can speak more on this later," Sayeka explains. "Tonight is a night for celebration, and it seems you have other matters to attend to."

"Other matters? What are you-"

"3...2...1..."

"THERE YOU ARE!" Saki's voice calls out from behind you. Looks like she found you instead. You turn around to see her approaching you in her Yakuta and... wow, she looks... dammit Ryoji, stop thinking about that! You shouldn't be having those kinds of thoughts about Saki!

As Saki reaches you, her head turns to Sayeka, confused. "Oh, Sayeka... were you two..."

Sayeka smiles. "Of course not, Saki! You have nothing to worry about!"

Saki blushes. "What?! I wasn't worrying! It just looked like you two might be... and I was curious to know!"

Sayeka smirks. "Whatever you say. He's all yours." She turns to walk away, before whispering. "Enjoy yourself, but remember what we talked about."

Saki smiles as she points to a nearby game stall. "I thought we could try out goldfish scooping! It sounds like fun!"

Yeah, if you're six. Whatever, Saki's already wrapped around herself around your arm as the two of you walk ahead. Damn, she's hugging close to you. This position is a little too romantic for your tastes... but for some reason, you don't mind it.

Wait a minute... Saki was determined to bring you out here, she's hugging close, she wanted to spend time with just you and the others in class seemed happy to leave the two of you alone... oh god, this isn't a date, is it? Are you on a date with Saki?

Calm down... of course not. Saki's the kind of person who would ask outright if she wanted to date someone. Yeah, she definitely doesn't think this is a date, right? That's right, it's just two best friends having fun at a festival together, and everyone else is reading it the wrong way! That's all that's going on here! Still, this sure feels like a date...

Saki rolls up the sleeves of her Yukata as she begins to scoop for goldfish. You think the whole activity is lame, so you just stand and watch as Saki picks her targets, catching three goldfish before the poi breaks. She stares at the three little guys in the plastic bag provided to her by the stall vendors. "I'm going to name you Mr. Gorudo II, and you'll be Mr. Gorudo III, and you'll be... let's see... Ryoji."

"Please don't name any fish after me," you reply.

Saki laughs. "I'm just kidding! I'm not going to keep any of these guys anyway. I don't have anywhere to put them, and taking care of three goldfish is a big responsibility. I'm already taking care of an entire class of goldfish!"

You smirk. "You missed a great pun by not saying a school of goldfish."

"Darn, I did!" Saki whines. "Oh well... hey look, it's Nanami!"

Sure enough, the pirate is fast approaching the two of you. You were curious to see what she looks like in a Yukata, but you should have figured she wouldn't change out of her pirate costume for anything. Pretty disappointing.

"Ah, scooping from a miniature sea!" Nanami booms, "How fun! You know who would love this? Ken! He loves fishing! I wonder if he's here..."

Booker is just challenging us, he's playing us like a fiddle and he knows it the devious magnificent bastard.

People complained about not having a 'hardmode' ship a good while ago though I feel that getting Saki to go from hating our guts to crushing on us almost openly was pretty hardmode since half the girls were throwing themselves at us and now we've got one, except we aren't part of it. We can control Ken or Nanami, we can only sway them towards each other, and by jove we're gonna give it our damndest.

Or write fanfiction about it And hope Booker enjoys it enough that the ship appeals to him too

>Yeah, he's wandering around with Chihiro and Alice.

"Oh..." Nanami replies. "He sure is spending a lot of time with Alice... isn't he?"

You shrug. "He's a good influence, and that girl desperately needs one. Why, do you have a problem with that?"

Nanami frantically shakes her head and gives a weak smile. "N-no! Of course not! Why would I have a problem with that? Me? A Problem? With that? No way! No siree! I don't have a problem! Why would I have a problem? I am completely problem-less! What even IS a problem? I'm so unfamiliar with the term!"

Nanami gives a nervous laugh as she begins to take a few steps back. "I'm gonna go now... not to look for Ken! Just... you know... going! Enjoy your date!"

She sprints away, before you even have a chance to explain that it isn't a date.

"She looked... uncomfortable," Saki mutters. "What was that about?"

"She, Ken and I have been working on a... side project, for the last two weeks," you explain. "They've spent a good bit of time together, and I think Nanami's developed a little crush."

"Aww, that's cute..." Saki smiles.

"It's not so cute when you realise how much Ken has the hots for Alice," you add.

"For... Alice?!" Saki's eyes widen. "But she's as old as my grandpa!"

"Yeah, well tell that to her body," you joke, earning you a punch in the arm.

"Don't be a pig!"

The two of you continue to wander by a few stalls, when you are approached by Nariko. Damn, is there any girl in this class that doesn't look great in one of those gowns.

"Daisuke! Daisuke!" She calls out. "Dai-Oh, hi guys! Have either of you seen Daisuke? He seems to have run off... I don't want him getting into too much trouble..."

Knowing that cat, he's probably destroyed at least three stalls by this point.

>No, but we can help you look for him.
>He can't be too hard to find. Just follow the trail of destruction.

I preferred the Waifu Wars personally, but it would really be best if we could ignore everyone else's pairing, let them sort out their own lives, and focus on 1. Not Dying. 2. Smokin'. 3. Getting a copy of Holes.

I feel like I will need to revitalize our nickname list at this rate. Seeing as we keep depicting Ryoji as a huge holes fan.

Yelnats seems like a pretty solid nickname for him.

As does Lucy, but thats because hes a pseudo-psychologist
>>

It makes sense, at least to me. There's a lot I think Ryoji'd see in common between himself and Stanley, from what we've seen of Ryo's backstory, and hell, this school's basically prison.

>He can't be too hard to find. Just follow the trail of destruction.

Nariko puffs out her cheeks. "I resent what you're implying, Ryoji! My little Daisuke would never-"

"Uh, Nariko?" Saki interrupts, pointing behind her.

Nariko turns to see a path of stalls behind her that have been damaged and raided, with the angry vendors yelling about a damned black cat. Nariko turns red with embarrassment as she turns back to you and bows. "Very sorry! I'll grab him before he does any more damage. Daisuke!"

She hurries off in the same direction as her troublemaking cat. As she does, Saki pulls a sad face. "She's such a lovely girl, but it's so sad..."

"What is?" you ask.

"Oh, you don't know?" Saki replies. "Then I don't feel right telling you."

"Well, now you've made me curious."

Saki shakes her head. "Let's just say her childhood wasn't very nice. Any more than that is not something you want to know about."

Huh... guess no matter how much you know about the people in this school, there's always more to learn. "By the way," you add, "Akira told me to thank you for thinking about her."

Saki frowns. "I guess you couldn't get her to come, could you?"

"She wants to stay by Rei in case she wakes up tonight," you reply.

"Here's hoping..." Saki mutters, as the two of you move on to nearby stall where... Akio is yelling about something.

"What are you doing?" you ask.

"What does it look like?" Akio fires back. "I'm taking bets!"

"Taking bets?!" Saki exclaims. "But that's-"

"Illegal, yes, we've heard it all before," Akio replies.

"What are you taking bets on?"

Akio smirks. "The battle of the century! Nerd vs. Nerd! Bookworm vs. Bookworm! Hikaru vs. Satomi, settling their differences in a firing range contest!"

"Before anyone asks, I don't approve of the betting," Hikaru chimes in, air-rifle in hand. "I'm just doing this because I don't like Satomi."

"Keep talking trash," Satomi gives her creepy grin, "You're still going to lose!"

"That wasn't my trash-talk, genius. You'll know when it's my trash-talk."

I'm always here, I haven't missed a thread since the first episode! Sometimes I'm just late though, but I've been here a while.

You see, wailing the slightly-deranged science-obsessed cutie patootie pays off, you can always bet on that hint of yandere to win over in combat-skill based circumstances

Oh Chihirofag, I'm a terrible person and I've been reconsidering Satomi was my waifu, she is waifu material but we'd seen so little of her that it just wasn't the same anymore, I almost had to re-read to put the spark back into it all and even then I think I was starting to see things your way again, the words you spoke of how Chihiro is waifu material, though so long ago now it seems, have stuck with me.

You have corrupted me, you fiend, and I do not feel the shame I think I should
>>
>>182766

Curses! Foiled by my own skill and wit! Well, Chihiro -is- prime Waifu material, still, we're likely to see more of Satomi here, so let's see how that affects you.

On a completely unrelated side-note, found this stuff, greek yogurt-based dip, feta cheese and dill, I hate almost anything greek yogurt-based, it tends to be hipster-shit, but this stuff goes surprisingly well with Wendy's nuggets.

Not sure why I put that out there, but the stuff's damn good.

I am indeed both, I've played a few roles in this quest over the time.

I was the one who mentioned Holes originally, or at least propelled the conversation on it, I was the one who got god-awful roles, I wrote the Saki/Ryoji episode 6 fluff piece, I coined the name Bromen Rider for ken [as well as being one of the two people to draw similarities from him to Kamen Rider when he was introduced], And indeed I was the first person to bring up PirateRider as a ship and sailed it valiantly until it began amassing a crew, however small it may be. I was the one to waifu Alice first, before ALMOST being swayed to Chihiro, and settling on Satomi. With a brief consideration for Akira, of course. I also named the DJD, and am responsible for any odd comments and references to transformers you see buried away around here.

I'm everywhere man, I'm always here, always contributing.

Trivia time, did you know Isamu is my favourite Class 2 Student? I still can't believe nobody has brought up how he at one point threw himself at Yamato last episode and was batted away but dammit, that took balls. Plus I consider him and Akemi a funny and kinda cute crackship, because pairing a pervy but honest and funny guy with the ditzy, to-easy-to-undress-for-some-reason, clumsy girl seems like fun, especially after the interaction they had while we were in detention.
>>
>>182822

Really? Interesante! I was the one who replied first, and made the attempted humor allegations of Holes being about the repercussions of teaching a small black child to read.

I'd have to go back and re-read to check everywhere else I've been, but I've been pretty active from Episode 2 onwards.

>My money's on Satomi.

"Are you kidding?" Akio laughs. "My girl's going to kick her ass!"

"Not your girl," Hikaru mutters as she readies her air-rifle, closing one eye and easily hitting the centre of the target. "But I am going to kick her ass."

"Don't get too confident," Satomi replies, "It's best of three, remember?"

Satomi readies the air-rifle and hits the centre target in turn. You should have expected both these girls to be good marksmen.

Hikaru shrugs as she goes in for another shot. "Not bad, but check this out." As expected, she hits the centre of the target.

Satomi takes the air-rifle next. "So Hikaru," she begins, "How does it feel knowing I got the lab assistant job you wanted?"

"I don't know," Hikaru replies. "How does it feel knowing the guy you like is interested in me and wants nothing to do with you?"

Well, that comment took Satomi off her game, as she shoots slightly off-centre.

"Huh, looks like I win that round-"

"I KNOW YOU DID, YOU BLUE HAIRED BUFFOON!" A angry and shaking Satomi screams at her, readying the rifle once again. Her hands are still shaking. "Just... just give me a second, I can..."

The next shot misses the centre by a lot. Satomi tosses down the air-rifle, her eyes watering. Damn, this got uncomfortable really quick. You can see the immediate guilt in Hikaru's eyes as she approaches her opponent. "Hey, I-"

"Take the shot!" Satomi yells at her. "It's best of three, and you still have to take your last shot! So go ahead and take it!"

Hikaru hesitantly picks up the air-rifle and aims it at the target. She shoots, and hits even further away from centre than Satomi's, and obviously intentional miss on her part. "Oh hey, you won that round... guess it's a draw, huh?"

Satomi angrily crosses her arms, without saying another word. Hikaru nervously grabs Akio by the arm and walks away.

"I hate her... I hate her so much..." Satomi mutters under her breath.

The fact it was so glossed-over makes me worry if it was a minor mistake on Booker's part and it was supposed to be someone else's name there, but even then it is a happy accident, Isamu is a simpler soul but yet he is a braver one than we could anticipate. It was understated, it was no big thing to anyone, but damnit if that doesn't make what he did that bit more important.

Don't tell Booker but I've got a brief piece on Akemi/Isamu fluffiness planned for once I've finished the PirateRider story

I wasn't around for Wrestlequest, I never used /tg/ much at all besides occasionally looking for some good stories and greentexts, But /qst/ has been a ridiculous amount of fun even if I only really come here for this quest and whatever else grabs my attention once in a blue moon.

It's good to have a familiarity here, but all things considered this thread itself is probably a family in its own right of around 20 or so consistent posters since early on by the seems of it.

The consistency of this thread showing up and constant flow of players getting about 500 replies a time total on a thread really helps fill the gap left after the general I'd been sunk into for so long got banned. It was a weird experience, I'm one of those wandering sorts who shows up to go to at least a handful of board for specific threads and whatever else catches my fancy, but for a month I had one general open as a constant focus since it was going 24/7, it was a background noise to my life. Losing it was a crazy ride, so big thanks to Booker for making this quest not even a week later so I had something to do.

>Why do you two dislike each-other so much? Why the rivalry?

Satomi shakes her head. "Hikaru and I have a... storied history. We've known each-other since grade-school, and when we were little, we were actually the best of friends. How could we not be? We were the two brightest girls in class, with a love for reading, and an interest in science..."

"What happened?" Saki asks, curious.

"I... I don't remember," Satomi mutters, "It was so long ago. It was either something I did or something she said, but... after that we had a falling out. Soon the two brightest girls weren't friends... we were competitors. And our rivalry kept on escalating. I was definitely smarter than her, but she was better with people. I won out on the academic side, which annoyed her to no end... but she had friends. People liked her. And that really pisses me off!"

Satomi crosses her arms, angrily. "She doesn't like him. She's just using him to make me angry! You heard her!"

Saki places a hand on Satomi's shoulder. "I hate to tell you, Satomi... but Hikaru genuinely likes him. It's actually really cute."

"No it's not! Nothing she does is cute! I hate her!" Satomi whines.

"Do... do you need a hug?" Saki asks with a smile.

Satomi frowns. "No... yes."

Saki pulls in Satomi close and squeezes her tight, and Satomi cries into her Yukata. Huh, this time you didn't have to say anything. Turns out Saki can pull off the impromptu therapy session you seem to get stuck with herself.

After Saki whispers a few comforting things in Satomi's ear, the two break away and Saki rejoins you in wandering about the festival. "It's a shame about those two... I'm sure their relationship can be repaired..."

"Well, don't expect me to do it," you reply, "I hate being the guy stuck with having to fix everyone's social problems."

Oh, who are you kidding? You'll end up trying to fix things eventually.

The two of you soon come across Hoshi passing by, a wondrous smile on her face and cotton candy in her hand. "Oh hello, you two," she says as she sees you. "Are you two going to see Akemi's fireworks?"

"Fireworks?!" Saki exclaims, causing Hoshi to squeak and shrink back.

"W-wha?! S-sorry, not fireworks! I meant... ummm..."

"Ryoji, did you know about this?"

"I didn't know Akemi was setting them up," you reply. "That makes it a lot more interesting."

"Well, I'll have no part in it! Fireworks are barely legal, and dangerous! Especially handled by someone who is under-age and doesn't possess a proper permit!"

>Come on, Saki. It'll be safe, trust me. It's a special day, let's end it in a special way.

>Come on, Saki. It'll be safe, trust me. It's a special day, let's end it in a special way.

"B-but fireworks are so risky! Isn't there a safer way to-"

"Saki, it's fine. Come on, just for tonight. Let loose a little. I know you'd love the display."

Saki hesitates, mulling it over. "Well... okay... but just for tonight! This is a special occasion!"

You smile, and for once you're the one taking her by the hand. "Alright then, let's go!"

"Gah, Ryoji! You can't drag me along like this! I'm supposed to do that to you!"

The two of you arrive at the bank by the lake, where the rest of the class seem to be gathered in preparation for the show. Akemi is fiddling with a few wires, as Seishiro appears to be trying to hit on Satomi. You wonder what happened to his 'Claim one girl' rule, but you quickly realise that was probably thrown out the window when Sayeka, and subsequently every other girl, shot him down. Satomi appears ready to tell him to go away herself.

"You guys made it!" Akemi smiles as she sees the two of you, control panel in hand. "You ready to end your date with a bang?"

"Not a date," you and Saki both reply in unison. You also feel tempted to tell Akemi to work on her wording, because that sentence could easily be misconstrued.

"Akemi..." Saki mutters, "You didn't set up... too many fireworks did you?"

Akemi pauses. "How many is too many?" she asks, immediately before hitting the button on her control panel. Several missiles shoot up without warning, as they explode in the air. The act causes Akemi to laugh joyously, and for a startled Saki to stumble back, falling flat on her ass.

You laugh and sit next to her. "You okay?"

"Fine," Saki strains through her teeth, rubbing the small of her back.

As the two of you sit down, hear Hikaru talking behind you. "Did you see the look on her face? I just felt so bad... I should apologise, but I don't think she'd accept it..."

You quickly zone out of that as you notice Saki resting her head against your shoulder. In the background, you hear Isamu screaming something about the fireworks, calling them magical fires of the sky or some other nonsense. All you can focus on right now is the girl beside you, and how she's gazing in wonder at the same thing she was getting angry about moments ago. Once again, Ryoji Shida proves to be right.

>Silently watch the fireworks with her.

Hey, this is actually a pretty nice moment. No point spoiling it by saying something dumb. Saki nestles close to you as you watch the fireworks light up the sky in a dazzling display of colour. At some point you notice that Saki's hand is placed atop yours, but you have no idea when that happened. You're not even sure if Saki's noticed it yet, as she continues to stare wide-eyed at the fireworks. You never realised just how blue her eyes were before. A perfect blue. It's no surprise that you've been thankful for the Darkworld's absence these last two weeks, but you've never been more thankful for it than you are right now. Otherwise, you never would have gotten to enjoy this festival, and to enjoy this date with Saki.

Wait, did you just call it a date? It's not a date, no matter how it may look. And no matter how it may feel. Sure, as you look at Saki, looking absolutely stunning in that Yukata, you get a strange, pleasant feeling, starting in your stomach but soon warming your entire body... but that doesn't mean anything!

Dammit... who are you kidding? It means everything.

This is the worst. And it's not just attraction, either... you could live with attraction, she's a pretty girl. But somehow, someway, against all odds, against all that is good and holy and right with the world... you, Ryoji Shida, master delinquent, hater of all authority, have managed to start developing... feelings for Saki. It's not right. You shouldn't feel this way, it's ridiculous! But you suppose you've brought this on yourself. From those early moments where you took pity on the authoritarian law-lover, to those beginning sparks of an unlikely friendship, to that time you hugged her, to that other time you hugged her, the hugging actually got a little out of control... to that moment on the bench after the battle with Yamato, to the two of you actually acting like best friends, to agreeing to go to this festival with her... to now. You should face it, you really dug your own grave with this one.

Maybe she's starting to feel it too... no, of course not. She couldn't possibly feel the same. Sure, she eventually went from genuinely hating you to being able to call you her best friend, but the idea of wanting to date a delinquent is a foreign concept to Saki Kobashi. She'd never go that far... but hey, you never thought you'd start to fall for someone like Saki, and yet here you are, staring dumbstruck at her face for what must be a good five minutes straight without blinking now. Maybe you should say something.

"Hey, Saki..."
>>
Saki immediately shushes you. "Quiet Ryoji, a real big one's about to go off."

The last firework Akemi has in her arsenal shoots up into the air with incredible velocity, before going off in a near-deafening explosion. Clearly a personal homemade firework, as the explosion spells out the words "AKEMI IS GREAT". Nice touch to end the display.

"Wow... I hate to say it, but you were right, Ryoji. That was beautiful." She picks herself off the ground and dusts herself off. "So, what were you about to say, anyway?"

It seems the moment has passed, but maybe it's not too late to say something. Maybe just hint at it. "Well..."

"Ryoji!" you hear Chihiro cry out, interrupting you. "It's terrible!"

"What is?" you ask.

"Aunt Alice wandered off, and now I can't find her!" she cries.

"Don't worry, she's probably with Ken."

"But Ken's over there!" she explains, pointing toward the other end of the bank, where Nanami seems to have pulled Ken aside for some kind of conversation.

Shit... what if it was those hooded figures? Perhaps they grabbed her? You run up the bank, leaving the rest behind, as you frantically look for Alice or any sign of the hooded men. You think you catch a glimpse of one wandering into the forest, and before you're even sure you saw one, you're running into the forest.

To your extreme surprise, you find Alice just through a small clearing, standing still, yet unshaken and unharmed.

"They're here to look, not to catch," Alice says as you approach.

>So you saw them too?

Alice nods. "One of them was watching me all night. It was very annoying. But when I went to him, he ran away! He didn't want to capture me... at least not yet. Curiouser and curiouser..."

"Do you know what they wanted?" you ask. "Are they like us?"

Alice shakes her head. "No, they're just oysters... but who are they following? Who in the world are they? Ah, that's the great puzzle!"

The night begins to feel a lot colder than it did before as you speak. "Wait... if you thought that he planned to capture you, then why did you go towards him? And without anyone else's knowledge? Don't you get how dangerous that was?" Great, now you're starting to sound like Saki... and now you realised that you just left her behind while you were having a moment. Dammit.

Alice remains still, her back turned to you. "I saw my sister today. She didn't look like herself, but I knew it was her. I had to hide behind one of the stalls so she wouldn't see me. Her face... so many wrinkles... am I that old?"

"So, what are you saying?" you ask. "Feeling melancholic about all the time you missed? I can understand that."

"I don't belong here."

"Of course you do!" you reply. "You grew up in this town! You're back at your old school! Against all odds, you've managed to make it out of that dimension, and back to the world you came from."

Alice shakes her head. "It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."

You sigh, unsure of what to say. "So what? You wanted those people to take you away? Kill you?"

"Alice Maddox died a long time ago," Alice fires back. "I'm just a spirit, her ghost... I don't like being a ghost. It doesn't suit me."

She turns around to face you. "Ryoji..." you note this as the first time she's ever used your name. You also note the uncharacteristically solemn look on her face. "Why did I have to die?"

You have no answer. There isn't one. And maybe it was the chills from that question, or the fear of those hooded figures and whatever their plan is, or perhaps it was recalling Sayeka's vision... but that Summer night turned very cold indeed.

That was a great way to end it. And a nice episode all around. Great development for Ryoji, though I hope we explore all the other characters. Kind of feel sad that we missed out on them. But hey, we'll get those chances.

Player Question:
We learn that Class 3 isn't terrible. Rei doesn't wake up until the next arc. Taka continually tries to appologize for his actions to Akira, in which she learns to forgive and maybe live for herself a littleSerriously we need to drag her out of the nurse's office, kicking and screaming if we must.. Friction for Nanami as she tries to keep up her clown pirate act despite growing unease. Satomi and Hikaru attempt to mend differences, or at least we learn more backstory. We gain powers, or others we know do. Alice struggles with her identity, and Chihiro tries to help but flounders about.

And several other things. But we'll see what happens.

>>183663
I would be okay with this. But really, there are several mitigating factors that will determine any naming if she wants it.

I am fond of Alicia as a name.

You mean Ryoji doesn't get stronger when he dies? This is nothing like my Chinese cartoons.
>>
>>183912
I prefer Ryoji dropping his spaghetti whenever he tries to put the moves on her and Saki just going full oblivious buddy mode.
>>
>>183833
I like all three for dofferent reasons.

Saykea's gives a little more of a tragic tone and makes you feel for her situation. Explains why she's so political. And honestly, seems like the true hard mode for any character to date her now. Will she be able to actually put time in to fall on love, or let go. Or will she spiral into a depression deeper than Akira's? If people start dropping, you better believe she'll claim some responsibility, justified or not. Also, those damn secrets are going to bite back one day. That's for certain.

Satomi's and by proxxy, Hikaru's is interesting, just for the sheer fact that we get to learn more about her. She's not had a lot of depth yet. So even adding and expanding on this relationship is great. Can't wait to see the inciting incident that caused the rift between friends.

Ryoji's, assuming you mean his growing feelings, is just wonderful. Plain and simple. Kidna wish we had a POV change for Saki's thoughts. Even as a pastebin from you. But only after we progress there. Unless of course, there is something I have missed something important and have to reread to pick up hints. The "Alice Maddox is dead" line draws some considerable pause.

>>184120
>Which have you enjoyed running more: Wrestlequest or DGA?

That's a real tough one. I'd honestly say DGA has the slight edge simply because I feel I've come into my own more as a QM with this one, plus the waifu wars here are all in good spirits and not disastrous like in WrestleQuest.

There's so much I've gathered experience wise here that I'm taking with me to WrestleQuest Season 2, and I'm going to love every second of it. Season 2 of WrestleQuest is going to be a blast.

>>184122
Ryoji's her best friend and the first real friend she's ever had. She just assumes it's how to behave with someone she's close with and loves and cares for (as a friend). Ryoji initiated the touchy-feeliness of the friendship with that hug, anyway.

To be fair, you were always solid as a QM for me. Just because the characterization game has always been strong. So I will eagerly await that one too. I weap for certain cast members fates. Specifically the female cast.

>Better behaved waifu wars
Well to be fair, I think its because there was more pacing to it. Not to mention I think a wiser player base than when the other quest started. Or just a lot of veterans, such as myself

That and 2nd place is currently fast asleep right now, to put it elequently
>>
>>184229
Funny enough, Rei despite being the biggest waifu among the playerbase alongside Saki, isn't actually 2nd place in terms of progress towards route lock. She was actually overtaken by Chihiro. But Saki was pushed so far ahead of either of them, there's really no contest.

I don't know if it's the fact that I very much dislike ever going for the first girl to really appear in something like this, (makes us seem really dumb) but I very much dislike Saki

Don't worry, it's just your shit taste showing.

Way late to the party but, can someone explain why anons are so adverse to exposition and avoided stuff like the class 3 girl thing?

I'm not adverse to it, I just don't care about Nina in particular. I'm guessing it's a similar thing for everyone else, had it been Shinji or Taka maybe some people might have wanted to explore them. I personally am waiting for Lilo to show up so I have some reason other than her skirt to like her. Not sure if we're on autosage yet so make sure to sage your posts so we don't get mixed up with the new thread in a few hours.

Calling it now. Principal Wei is a darkworlder/archdemon and that's why he couldn't remember Saki.
