In that moment as the creature was bringing down its blade, time seemed to slow. The world around him blurred as he took in his situation.
‘I can’t back down.. If I move Thea will be done for.’ Leo thought, looking over his shoulder to see Thea clutching her chest on the ground behind him. ‘And there is no way Duncan will reach him in time to prevent the attack, So it all comes down to this.’

Slamming his foot into the ground, solidifying his position, Leo brought his shield over his right arm and timed his swing, He threw his arm furiously to the left, crashing violently into the creatures arm, sending the attack flying off course, and without any pause in his motions, with one swift swing he brought his silver sword down on the creature, Cleaving away a large chunk of its face, as Leo then spun around swinging his blade through the creatures neck, sending the head sailing off in an arc, as the body dropped to its knees and fell to its side.

Duncan’s charge had slowed down to a walking pace before ultimately coming to a halt as his arms slumped in awe of the strike Leo had delivered. He slowly approached the head of the creature before picking it up and examining the blow. The cut had cleanly sliced through the being with each strike. The skin of the creature felt surprisingly leathery and tough, but it had almost been like his face had been melted through by the strike, still smoking and sizzling from the silver blade.

”Holy shit..” was all that could escape Duncan’s lips upon inspecting the body, as the grass ran red with the creatures blood. Leo turned around and helped Thea to her feet as she thanked him, and took a look at the carnage that had taken place.

”I didn’t know what to think at first, but consider me pretty damn impressed. You aren’t half bad for a draftee, kid.” Duncan said, with the odd chuckle occasionally slipping out.

Leo was slightly surprised at his own ability. The swift combination of strikes he delivered had again lead to the immediate destruction of something threaten their lives, But there wasn’t any time to delay.

“With this thing bleeding out here, its going to drawn those other creatures back this way. We have to hurry and get this done.” Leo whispered, as the trio all nodded in agreement.

Leo led the way, carefully maneuvering up to the entrance of the large dome. With a slow crack of the door, he peered inside, scanning the room from left to right. It turned out the site was indeed a place of worship for the elves. Rows and rows of pews had been scattered and pushed away from the center of the massive dome. The walls were decorated with unfamiliar symbols and relics. The building was in relatively good condition aside from the pews having been shoved along the ground, but as Leo’s line of sight crossed the center of the room, he could see them.

In the center of the room was a large pile of bodies, all wearing varying degrees of leather and steel plate. It was the third battalion. It wasn’t the entire battalion, but what looked like a few hundred bodies were piled up within what looked like a chalk circle of some kind. Leo motioned at Theo and Duncan, to follow him in so they could get a better look.

The door was slowly pushed open without making so much as a sound as the party moved inside. The first thing that stood out upon entering was the stench. The smell of rot and decay was almost suffocating, but the trio managed to endure it without as much as a cough. Thea had brought a hand up to her mouth and nose, her face had grimaced the moment she walked through the door. The top of the building was carved out in such a way that rays of light poured down and filled the room.

Beside the large mountain of bodies were 2 other figures, floating above the ground slightly, arms extended and chanting in some language Leo had never even heard of. Their long ragged cloaks barely touched the ground, as not a single bit of skin could be seen from where they stood. One of the creatures was slightly facing their direction, and Leo could make out the thing was wearing some sort of mask.
The party hadn’t been noticed yet.

>Leave the building before you get spotted, the mission is complete.

The trio having finally confirmed what was going on, snuck their way back outside. Thea took a large breath of fresh air and let out a large sigh before whispering,
"That explains what we saw back at the tree… They use the bodies of their enemies to create these.. things. Okay, that’s everything. We had better hurry back so we can get the first battalion the reinforcements it needs instead of waiting on a pile of bodies to refill their ranks.”

As Thea was speaking, Leo had been dragging the body and head of the monster they cut down outside over to the entrance of the dome, propping it up against the doors as he began to set a fire underneath them both.
”Whatever it is they are making in there, we can’t let them get out, or put our comrades corpses to any further horrific uses. Leo whispered.
As the fire was lit, the body got set ablaze rather quick, and it didn’t take long for it to spread to the wooden doors, and climb its way up the structure. The density of the surrounding forest was enough to keep the fire from being blown out, and it didn’t take long before the whole thing was ablaze.

As the building began to burn, The party began their retreat from the settlement, But unfortunately, the fire had alerted the horde, and multiple hulking monsters of flesh and steel began wandering back towards the fire they had just set.
“Oh shit! Way to go kid, real bright idea you had there.” Duncan blurted out as they turned the corner of a nearby building.

Looking around the building, Leo could see that the creatures had spread out quite far, and were all making their way back in the general direction of the fire, not directly to it.
”Duncan, How quick were these things to give chase?” Thea quietly asked.
”Once the battle started going south, we were able to outrun most of them. I haven’t seen any of the fast ones yet.. But I’d feel lots better ‘bout our chances if we had our horses.”

The group carefully peered around the building until the coast was clear and then began moving out of the town. They slowly weaved their way in and out of buildings, avoiding the slightest chance of being discovered. The monsters were incredibly slow and in disarray. Leo began to wonder if every single one of them had been born from the flesh of their comrades. Unlike the squid like creature from before, or the knight like being from the tree, these wandering masses of flesh did little more than react to stimuli in their immediate surroundings, even the ones that had been in the great tree were slow to react, or barely even noticed the group until they charged in for the offensive.

Taking a look back at the growing flame, Leo could make out a large beast of flesh that had been set ablaze, it was running circles around the field outside the burning building before collapsing onto the ground, But Leo was met with a tap on the shoulder as Duncan motioned to look forward instead of admire his handiwork, so they kept moving.

Once they were clear of the town, everyone let out a long sigh of relief. If at any point in time they had been discovered by the horde that would have been it for them. They practically had to sneak through the middle of the pack in order to avoid being spotted. With nothing but a burning village behind them, they marched onwards to the location they had left their mounts.

The group made their way through a small amount of forest before reaching their horses, all still in place and perfectly fine. Luckily, none of the monsters from the town had wandered out this far and picked up their scent, and no strange mythical beast that should be extinct had hunted them down yet. It looks like they had just made it through the mission by the skin of their teeth.

I know we’re not out of the woods yet, But thank god that’s over with. M’heart nearly popped out of my chest several times back there. Duncan exclaimed as he got on his horse.

That was pretty close, but we learned a lot more than we needed too. Good job back there you guys. Thea said. There was a large amount of relief in Her voice as she spoke. It had to be pretty stressful having to be wedged between so many creatures like that. If they had been found, she wouldn’t have any time to gather the mana needed to fire a spell that could harm them.

The group started riding back towards the rally point at a decent pace as Leo looked over to Duncan and yelled over the sounds of galloping and branches snapping.
“What happened back there Duncan? You left me with all the work.”

Duncan burst out laughing as they rode onwards, turning a head to Leo with a big grin.
”Yeah? All I saw was you get lucky, and set a building on fire. I’d hardly call that work, kid.”

”The names Leo, and the first round of drinks are on you.” Leo replied, matching Duncan’s grin with one of his own. Leo felt good walking away from that conflict having contributed as much as he did. The events that unfolded at the great tree left him wondering if he was actually any benefit to the cause, but today reassured him of his abilities.

He was confident that he wouldn’t need his hand held. That he would instead be someone that others could rely on, just as he once relied on Gregory. It still hurt looking back, but it was thanks to Greg that Leo had the opportunity to move forward, and every life Leo could save, every difference he could make in the upcoming battles are an extension of his lost friend, since it would all have been impossible without him.

”You boys don’t need to worry, the drinks are on me tonight. It’s a celebration after all!” Thea boldly shouted from the front of the pack, looking back over her shoulder.

”What celebration?” Leo asked.

”In celebration of your promotion Leo. Once we get back the first thing we’re going to do is make it formal.”

”Oh, Good. After that little display back there I was about to vouch for em myself. Anyone else would’ve run away screamin’”

The declaration coming from Thea put a smile on Leo’s face that he couldn’t wipe away. He would finally get issued some quality equipment, have a little respect from the army, and actually know what the hell is going on prior to being thrust into battle, but more importantly, It left Leo feeling satisfied that his comrades had enough trust in him to feel he deserved the privilege.

The trio had arrived just outside the encampment. The last leg in their trip before they could finally catch a break from all the chaos over past week. Leo was eager to finally be able to take it easy.

As the party headed down towards the center tent Leo asked
“So do you guys think there were any of them that followed us?”

”I don’t think so. After we tried to escape the town, they eventually quit givin’ chase and turned back. It was those damned giant animals…er… Mythical beasts? Whatever… Those things that shouldn’t be alive anymore are what finished the battalion off, not those monsters.”

”Well then Duncan, What’ll you be doing after this?” Leo asked.

”Whatever they tell me to do.. My unit was wiped out so I’m sure I’ll end up reassigned.” Duncan Muttered. He sounded quite disappointed with the ordeal, but it didn’t take long for Thea to chime in afterwards.
”Come with us then. Better than starting at square one again isn’t it?”
Duncan brought a hand up to his chin for a while before that same old grin tore across his face as he replied.
”I guess I’ll be able to put up with Leo… For the time being anyways.”

”So long as you actually manage to stab something, I have no objections. Leo fired back with a smirk.

The trio managed to share a laugh as they reached the tent. Before they dismounted and went inside Leo looked towards Thea and asked,
”After our little celebration, what’s the plan?”

”Probably a nice hot bath, something good to eat… reporting our findings to my colleagues will be dying to hear all about that Cockatrice!” Thea excitedly exclaimed.
”no…no I meant the group” Leo mumbled.
”Oh! Well, I assume we’ll be sent back to regroup with first battalion and await further instructions from there… But you can consider yourselves an official part of my squad. We’ll be heading into battle together from now on.”

That came as a relief to Leo. He would be lying if he said that her magical talents didn’t have anything to do with that. Seeing how strong magic was on the battlefield always left Leo awestruck, So serving right next to such a strength was quite comforting.

The group headed into the tent and gave their report to the correspondent there. After the quick exchange of information, He said that an update was being sent to HQ, and that the first battalion should see reinforcements within the week.
After a lengthy trek along the open fields, the group finally managed to make it to the first battalion’s camp. Multiple medical tents had been erected throughout, as men were constantly being transported between them covering from head to toe in bandages and soiled wrappings.

>”How’s about those drinks?”

Duncan began making his way through the camp and turned around saying
”I’ll see you two over by the drinks” as he waved them off.
leaving Leo and Thea alone. The two got off their horses and had them sent off to the royal stables, as they both began to walk through the camp.

”About my promotion… how does that happen exactly?” Leo asked.

”We’re just about to go get that taken care of. First, we need to go see the captain, and then all you need is a recommendation from someone ranked at commander or above. They’ll have you recite a vow and then you’ll be one of us Leo.” Thea explained.

”Great!... and uh… you also said something about baths?” Leo stuttered.

“Oh, that’s right, yeah. Just like we have some mages to take care of keeping the drinks cold, there are some who help contribute to the fresh and clean water in our baths. It’s still a pretty meager setup, but it beats just splashing cold water all over yourself. It’s just a large ditch dug out, paved over in stone and filled with water, the occasional blast of fire keeping it warm for everybody.”

”wait, you mean it’s a mixed bath?! Leo replied in surprise.

”Uh.. Yeah. What did you expect? It’s not like we all get our own personal mages to slave over a tub all day. With a brief pause a smirk appeared on Thea’s face as she continued,
”But unfortunately, loincloths are mandatory.. Such a bummer.

“What?!? Oh yeah.. well.. of course they would be! I mean that.. uh.. Unfortunately?” Leo’s face began to run red at all the suggestive implications in her statement as Thea let out a hearty laugh.

“Alright, we’re here. Time to make a knight out of you. Thea said.

The two entered the large immaculate tent at the back of the encampment. It was quite warm inside as a man with extremely pristine armor sat behind a table looking over various charts and maps. Thea then saluted the captain, and after a rather casual greeting and explained everything we had encountered and dealt with over the past week. The captain was quick to give his approval to the promotion, and after swearing loyalty to the Royal regiments and the king, they were outside the tent with wide smiles.

”See? That wasn’t too bad was it? We got out of there pretty quick, he must be busy today.

>”Time to celebrate with a drink!”

Also ask about equipment
We can't rely on this sword forever
>>
”Any idea when I’ll receive my new gear?” Leo asked.

”It’ll take around 24 hours to have it all assigned and fit to your measurements, if we get deployed before then, they would give it to you then, but I know that won’t happen. It’ll at least two days before the battalion gets reinforced.” Thea explained.

”In that case, I’ll go ahead and take a bath before grabbing that drink”
It had been a long time since Leo could take a warm bath. It was as Thea had said. The most washing the draftee’s would get to do is with a bucket of cold water.

“Enjoy yourself Leo, You might see me before you get out. I have some business to take care of first.” Thea said as she walked off

Leo started making his way over towards the bathing area. The royal regiments were always camped separately from the draftee’s, but even so, just as many medical tents had been raised, and just as many soldiers were being shuffled off from one to the other. The losses had been quite heavy for both detachments.
As Leo neared the bath, He could hear the sounds of laughter. It seemed the baths were a rather popular place for the Royals. Leo made his way over to the tent clearly labeled for men only, and once inside he found rows and rows of baskets, some of which were filled with normal cloths, and others with suits of armor. Leo grabbed an empty basket and put his equipment inside before sliding it back into place.

He then exited the tent and was surprised at the number of men and women in the bath. Some casting simple fire spells into the bathwater, others washing down and some fooling around. It was a complete contrast from the serious and high strung attitudes Leo was accustomed to seeing. It was like walking into a whole different world.

Leo made his way into the bath, keeping a moderate distance away from the others as he relaxed and his surroundings began to fade. With a loud sigh he leaned back and made himself comfortable as he shut his eyes, only to soon open them again at an unfamiliar voice.

“Hey! I don’t recognize you. You must be that new guy we were expecting.”
The voice was feminine, and quite perky. Leo looked to the source of the voice to see a woman with a slender figure, leaning over the baths edge before hopping in, splashing Leo’s face in the process.

“You’d been expecting me? Leo asked.

“uh-huh! A lot of us remember you from when you warned the front lines about that mage attack. We figured someone would put in a good word for ya. Hell, I’d prolly be a pile of ashes if it wasn’t for you. Ahahaha. I’m Lisa. Lisa Deylaud. She said, ecstatically. The girl seemed quite hyper.

“Leo Cassius, It’s a pleasure.” Leo said, as Lisa violently shook his hand for nearly a minute.

Leo smiled at the young girl, her cheeriness had already started to rub off on him. It had been such a long time since he was in such a casual atmosphere, he had almost forgotten what it felt like. Back in the conscripted, every man practically kept to themselves. Anyone who did have something to say was repulsive to the point Leo wanted nothing to do with them. The atmosphere amongst the royals was completely different than what we was used too.

”What has you in such a good mood? Besides me having saved your life. Leo said, leaning back to get more comfortable.

”The fact that we finally get some downtime!” Lisa said while stretching out her arms and legs. ”I know that we just got out of a big battle and lost a lot of people.. but I can’t help but just feel good. I haven’t been able to relax like this in forever ya know?

”I know what you mean.. We never got to have anything like this up in the conscripted part of camp.. This bath must take quite some time to set up huh? Leo asked.

”Nah, not when you have a handful of mages all helping out! Haha.. I’m so jealous though! They get to do all this fancy stuff for everyone that we’d never get to enjoy otherwise. Lisa replied, resting her head on her hands looking out over the bath.

It was quite a sizable ditch they had dug out. Leo would have thought it was a pool if not for all the men and women washing themselves and each other. The water was crystal clear, and maintained at a comfortable temperature, with the occasional stream of fire being cast into it.
Lisa tossed Leo a rag as the two began to scrub themselves down, before settling down and relaxing once more.

”Uwahhh, I could sit in here forever…” She said, head leaning back with her eyes closed.

”I know what you mean..”
The crowd had grown much smaller and soldiers began to exit the bath. The water temperature began to cool off with the lack of bodies, and mages still washing off.

Considering the good Mood Leo was left in, and how this girl had come out of the blue to start talking to him, Leo felt obligated to at least make the offer,
”Alright, So I’m about to go celebrate my promotion to the royal regiments with a few drinks and some friends, Would you care to join me?

It was then that Lisa’s eyes lit up as she threw her hands together blurting out,
REALLY?! Uh.. well.. of course! I’d love to. I didn’t have anything else planned for tonight. A large smile blossomed on Lisa’s face as she replied.

Leo stood up, and began to walk back to get his things with Lisa not far behind before stopping and turning around.
“Oh I almost forgot something.” Leo said, as he approached Lisa and leaned in closely, she stood completely still, leaning back slightly, as her eyes widened before Leo reached around her and tossed the rag he was given back where she picked it up from. Leo smirked seeing Lisa’s flushed face as he backed away and turned around heading towards the changing tent.

”I’ll see you by the drinks Lisa!” Leo said before entering the tent, seeing that Lisa was still standing just outside the bath as he walked in, put his cloths back on and made his way to the back of the encampment were tables and wooden kegs had been set.
He could see Duncan and Thea already started without him and were laughing and having a good time.

”Sorry for the wait guys, Hope you haven’t had too much fun without me.” Leo said, grabbing a tankard and filling it up. The area was pretty empty, Only a few other royals were seated around at other nearby tables minding their own business.

About damn time! I was getting sick of waiting, but we just got started so you haven’t missed much. Duncan said, letting out a hearty laugh.

As Leo headed back to his seat taking a swig of his ale, He could see Lisa approaching the group as he waved her over.
“I forgot to mention I invited someone to drink with us, Hope that isn’t too much trouble Thea.

”Not at all. Welcome to the party! Thea shouted as Lisa came over and took a seat.
“Oh my gosh, No way! Thea Ysmay!! I didn’t know she was your friend, Ohhhhhhh.. I’m sorry for intruding I didn-“
Lisa was cut off with a wave of the hand as Thea remarked
”oh no no no, it’s quite alright. You don’t have to be so nervous.
“ah… yes.. im sorry. I’m Lisa Deylaud. It’s an honor Ms.Ysmay. Lisa said looking down at the table.
Please, call me Thea. Thea cheerfully replied.

All the while Duncan had been shooting Leo a nasty glare, with an eyebrow raised. Almost as if he was screaming out “and just what were you up to?”

Leo got up again and headed over to the kegs, filling another tankard before walking back to the table, shooting a huge shit-eating grin in Duncan’s direction. The look was met with a bold laugh as he took another drink, and looked back over at Leo.
Leo took a seat and set the mug in front of Lisa, nodding as she expressed her thanks. He then leaned over to Duncan and whispered,

”Jealous Duncan?”

The remark was met with even more laughter before Duncan leaned in and whispered back,
“I don’t see any rings on the fingers at this table, So don’t get ahead of yourself m’boy.”
Duncan pulled back revealing a wide smirk as he took another drink.

Leo rolled his eyes at Duncan and then stood up and raised his glass.
”A toast. To new friends, new ranks, and a better shot at bringing down those demon bastards.”
His proposition was met with cheers all around, as tankards clanked together and drinks spilled all around. A few of the other royals scattered about raised their glasses as well, before everyone took their seats.

Lisa and Thea had both been hitting it off quite well, Lisa in particular looked up to Thea with admiration, constantly apologizing for being so casual, only to be let with laughs and teasing. It looked like she was the type to be quite easily embarrassed.
Duncan was too busy stuffing his face and throwing out love-struck gazes in the ladies directions. It seemed like Leo was the only one who really noticed, and he’d be sure to save this ammunition for later. All in all, Duncan was a fun guy to be around. He was pretty laid back and always eager to lighten the mood, as well as taking pot-shots at Leo.

Leo was happy. He had a few more people who he could rely on to watch his back, People who he trusted far more than anyone else, and in turn, felt far less alone than he had as a draftee. At least they would be facing this nightmare together from now on.
As Leo was wrapped up in thought, Thea began to address everyone.

”Not to bring down the mood, but its needless to say that the last big conflict ended badly for us.. as a matter of fact, my entire squad was wiped out with the exception of myself, and that’s partly in thanks to you Leo. Without you there, I would have died in that tower of a tree.
A small amount of applause broke out amongst the royals in the area, overhearing Thea’s speech.

” Which brings me to my point. I’ve always operated with a personal squad to call my own during battle, and it would be a great honor if I could depend on you 3 to be there for me in the next fight.” The said. Duncan immediately shook his head up and down in agreement after finding himself unable to string words together properly, and Lisa was quick to praise Thea for the privilege to work alongside her.

Leo decided he should also chime in.
“It would be an honor, Thea. Cheers!
With another clanking of tankards, the group downed the last of their drinks. It was refreshing to know that a powerful mage would march with him into battle. Leo felt like he was on top of the world, but that was most likely the ale.

Miss Lisah.. I was wonderin’, what.. how you fight.. and.. yea. Duncan stammered out. His face was quite red, and seemed to be having a hard time sitting upright. It was clear who the drunkard of the team was going to be.

”Oh, I uh.. I’m with the archery unit. I’ve had my fair share of swordplay though. Lisa mumbled, still fixated on Thea.

It was then Duncan slammed his hands on the table, causing the group to flinch as he stood up, wobbling back and forth.
I wanna, see.. show me it.. do the arrows.. lemme.. He then started wandering over in their directions before taking a tumble towards the girls.

Leo could have sworn in that split second, that he could see Duncan staring back at him, eyes slanted and grin wide, wider than he had ever seen a man’s face stretch, As both his hands fell firmly on the ladies breasts, before landing between them. It was a display the likes of which he had never seen, and left Leo's mouth gaping.

Lisa shrieked as he copped his feel, and Thea merely stood upright unamused at the act. Duncan must have thought he was being pretty slick, Up until he felt Thea’s boot get planted firmly on his spine. Leo could almost hear the crack and snap of his bones against her heel, before she spoke.

”It’s been a lot of fun guys, but I think we should call it a night. It’s almost dark out.
Thea said, somewhat yelling over the pained groans of Duncan who was still face first in the dirt.

“It sure has been… So uh.. where exactly do I sleep now?” Leo asked. Lisa quickly replied, raising a hand into the air.

”Oh! I can show you were we set up for the night! If you.. if you don’t mind Thea.
With a small nod, Lisa lightly dashed her way over to Leo and began to lead the way. It was probably best that Leo didn’t stick around to see what was in store for Duncan.

Leo and Lisa walked along a pathway past all the medical tents and to the backmost part of the encampment.

>”Thanks for joining me, it was a lot of fun.”

>”You really seem to look up to Thea. Why is that?”

>”I’m looking forward to working with you Lisa.”

>”You alright? I didn’t think Duncan was capable of such a thing.

As Leo and Lisa walked side by side down the path, Leo chuckled while saying.

“I can’t believe dumb can got… I mean Duncan got that drunk.. You feeling okay despite all that?”

”aha hahah, yeah.. He sure did go overboard. I’m alright.. I mean, it’s not like that sort of thing hasn’t happened before…” Lisa trailed off, getting quieter as she went on. Her face was still glowing red from the whole ordeal, and Leo couldn’t help but smile.

”Thanks for joining me, It was a lot of fun Lisa.”

”Yeah of course! I had a blast. We should do it again sometime, ahaha… Oh gosh, I can’t believe I got to talk to Thea Ysmay!” Lisa said, Letting out an ear piercing squeal at the end of her sentence.

”Speaking of, You really seem to look up to Thea. Why is that?” Leo asked.

”Oh well, I’ve always looked up to Thea… There was a time once were I tried my best at magic. I wanted to be just like her but… Oh, I just don’t have the same knack for it.. And she’s always so cool and collected, it’s inspiring. Not many women manage to get as renown as she is, ya know?”

Was Thea really that esteemed? Leo guessed that he couldn’t have been much luckier if that was truly the case.

”wow… I didn’t know she was so well known throughout the royals. I guess that means her recommendation for my promotion had that much more weight behind it huh? Leo remarked.

”Oh absolutely! Gosh.. im SOOOOooooOOOoo Jealous, it isn’t fair!” Lisa whined as she gently punched Leo on the shoulder repeatedly, flailing her arms about as the two erupted into laughter.

”So you can just set up anywhere around here, My tent will be over here too tonight. It really doesn’t matter where we set up, as long as its out of the way n stuff.

Leo took a look around and tilted his head, leaving a noticeable frown on display. Lisa was quite quick to notice and turned to ask,

”wh-..what’s wrong?

” ah.. well its just.. How about sharing a tent since I don’t have one. Thea said they would get my armor and equipment to me in the next 24 hours.”

In that instant, Leo could have sworn he saw a smile. If only for a brief second, before Lisa began saying,

”Oh! That’s right! And I’m sure you don’t want to set up that little thing that I’ve seen the draftee’s using. Sure.. Not a problem.. It’s this way.”
Lisa began walking off the path and over to a decently sized tent. It certainly stood much taller than the mediocre little bedsheets they called tents over at the conscripted sleeping area. Lisa skipped her way on over to the entrance before turning around and waving Leo inside.

He followed in after her, and the first thing he noticed was the smell. There was a very pleasant scent to the tent. The same smell he occasionally got a whiff of back when they had drinks now that he thought about it. But what had been a subtle smell then was an overpowering one now, But Leo enjoyed it. A field full of various flowers was what came to mind as he took a deep breath.

Taking a look around, Leo saw Lisa’s equipment. A longbow with a quiver full of arrows, the standard issue plate mail you could find all the royals wearing, and a steel short sword gently propped up against the side of the tent. Lisa had also lit a few small candles throughout the spacious insides, and various trunks and chests were arranged along the sides of the tent.
But what surprised Leo the most, was the small bed found at the corner of the tent. He knew that the royals were treated exceptionally well compared to the rest of the army, but beds? It nearly blew him away.
No wonder the conscripted were so poorly equipped if this sort of thing was standard issue. The more Leo thought about it the worse a taste it left in his mouth.

Lisa, having noticed Leo looking all over the room is astonishment brought her hands up to her hips and asked.

”What is it? See something you like?”

>>
“Yeah, You” Leo said.

The cheesy remark had been just what Lisa had been apparently looking for, as the comment was met with both giggle and smile, as she sat down on the bed.
She pat the spot next to her, as Leo made his way over and sat down next to her. The bed was as comfortable as it had looked, Leo had a serious urge to just lay down and pass out then and there, but the implications of what might happen kept him awake.

”We still have time before we can start getting some… “sleep”.. Tell me about yourself Leo.

”Well.. Before the war I simply worked on a farm with my parents. It wasn’t too long after my 18th birthday that the army showed up at our doorstep, You know the deal. ‘join the army or your family get it’ was the gist of what they told me. Went through basic training were I met my best friend, and it’s been the army life ever since. I uh… I lost my best friend during the siege on the capital, and made a promise to return this silver sword to his family. Leo explained.

Oh, I’m sorry for your loss.. You know, my story is basically the same way. Nice, simple life before being dragged into this war… I made a close friend in the royals, and he was actually the one who got me promoted.. He isn’t here anymore either..

You mean you were drafted too? How did that.. Lisa cut Leo off mid-sentence to add,
”My brother ran away.. He was supposed to be the one going to war, but since he abandon his ‘duty’, they took the rest of us.. I haven’t seen my family ever since.. They probably aren’t alive..” She said, looking down at the ground, shoulder slumped.

Leo already had a lot of problems with the military, hearing that fuel his hatred for them even more. Not only were they forced to do such horrible things to people, but this was just going too far.

It’s just… I had a whole life you know? Someone I wanted to be with, places I wanted to go, Things I wanted to do.. and all because of my brothers selfishness our entire family was torn apart.. I hate him so much for that..
