"Black Hearts. Cold Steel. Dark Deeds."

These are the words of the Black Company, the infamous band of mercenaries that has been on one side or the other of every major conflict on the continent since its founding.
The Company has seldom cared who they fight for or the cause so long as they are paid, and paid well, when the killing work is done. Though they may be considered by some to be little more than glorified brigands, it cannot be said that the Black Company is not good at what they do.

Recently the Company has taken up a contract with a new employer, one more powerful than any that have come before. An employer with endless ambition, as well as the means and lack of moral scruples needed to pursue it. An employer that pays well...

>[GREAT SUCCESS]

“Corporal Adam! We have to leave… mercenaries in the employ of the Necromancer have somehow seized the Palace.” The Saint, Captain Elia von Harti, seems a little… confused, her eyes unfocused.

Moments ago the Neumunster warrior burst into the decrepit chapel and saved your hide from a body-snatching daemon. A very impressive display all things being equal, but you can tell it too a lot out of her. With your uniform largely consisting of bloody rags and bandages [1/15 HP] right now, she hasn't realised that you two are not on the same side.

She does seem to recognise the uniforms and gear of your fellow squaddies pouring into the chapel though as the belonging to the same group that attacked her at the main gate. The Heigelen Captain valiantly plants her feet between you and this new threat, ready to defend her wounded ally.

“We need to save who we can- we…”

This has gone on long enough.

“Easy now, Captain. No point in dragging this on. Siege is over, fight's done. Let’s try to avoid anymore unnecessary bloodshed.”

She throws a confused look at you over her shoulder. Despite the fact that she is still reeling from some sort of concussion, you can see the beginnings of realization start to dawn on her.

"But... Corporal? You said..."

"Aye, I did. I told you I was a mercenary, didn't say it was your lot that paid me."

The rest of the squad has spaced themselves around the room, surrounding Captain Elia. At your single they hold back, refraining from attack.

"But... what about the children? Was that a lie?"

Uh-oh.

“Yes. I lied, mostly. I didn’t see the orphanage myself. You were our way into the palace, to safety. I made a decision, risk my men’s lives for those who were probably already dead, or protect those who mattered to me?"

Captain Elia’s eyes harden at this, you see a dangerous glint and a shift in her stance.

“I did see some of them though.” That stops her in her tracks. You tactfully decide to refrain from mentioning that you only saw them –after- you went back out. “What were their names? One-Legged Oliver?

“Ollie.”

“Right. He’s dead, saw that with my own eyes. The others, no clue. I did manage to save Jessica though. She-“

“Half of her anyway. Boss ain’t got much experience in the heroeing business.” damn it Schuster…

“I… I thought maybe… maybe if you had lied that meant they were all okay… That maybe everything would be okay…”

Personally, speaking as someone with firsthand experience being a Neumunster State orphan, you can’t recall any attractive warrior-women shedding tears for your sake. You find the whole thing distinctly unfair. You find it hard to glean satisfaction from Captain Elia’s heaving sobs, but the rest of the squad has no qualms with collectively sighing with relief when you delicately pry the glowing moonlight sword from the skilled Heigelen Captain's hands. It’s a fine blade, clearly masterwork but oddly enough the glow stops as soon as you grasp hold of it.

“That is twice in a single night you have made the fair mademoiselle shed tears, Corporal.” Somehow you can tell Pietre Verdun is smirking under his helm. “One might suspect our leader is going for a record.”

Trooper Durvano watches Mask and Verdun escort the saint off as LCPL Marcus takes a look at Trooper Belhamun.

“You know what matey you handled that prett- SUCK ME OFF WITH A BARNACLE”

“You what?” The others seem to be staring at you in amazement.

“Holy horse-shit, boss! How are you still standing?!”

“I feel fine.” You do, really. A little light-headed maybe.

“Sit down, Corporal.” Lancer ‘Jack’ virtually growls at you. “We’ll get you a stretcher.”

A stretcher, yeah. Some rest would be nice. It’s been a long fekking night after all.
>>

THREE DAYS LATER

By the fekking Father you’re sore. [11/15 HP] You’re back in the West Ballroom, which now seems to be the Black Company infirmary as far as you can tell. In the cot to your right Trooper Smiles-at-Dice lies back, bandages covering everything and preventing any talking. Not that he had much to say anyway. Trooper Belhamun is here as well, though he’s been in an out of it every since that incident with the daemonhost. Trooper Kid is the one the pops by most frequently, either with a written message or just to sit nearby because let’s face it the aftermath of a siege can be as unpleasant as it is dangerous. That or a laughing CPL ‘Bad Hand’ drags him/her back by the scruff of their ear, doubtless having been found with their hands on the wrong loot or in the wrong pockets. Really, you’re quite starting to like the little runt.

Aside from them, you’ve found yourself looking forward to the visits of…

--------------------------------------------

>Lance-Corporal ‘Jack’ Marcus. It’s been a busy few days following the siege, you appreciate his reports and opinions even if he has actual command right now.

>Trooper Vendis Durvano, sneaking in a bit of good grog to help pass the time. And ex-pirates always seem to sniff out the best drinks.

>Trooper Caroline Schuster, her wisecracks probably haven’t helped the stitches heal. But they do say laughter is the best medicine.

>Knight-of-the-Line Pietre Verdun, regaling you with his tales of blushing maidens and daring duels Before now you hadn’t really had a chance to talk to him.

>Knight-of-the-Line Mask, sometimes everyone else talks too much. You enjoy the silence the two of you share.

The sun is shining, the wind billows through the windows softly and the chittering of the hordes of daemons has stopped. They disappeared like mist at the first hint of sunlight, though whether that was by Superior Syka’s design or an inherent weakness to light you aren’t sure. You haven’t had to think about it much, Schuster has been keeping you and the other wounded in lighter spirits for the most part.

“And so I says ‘Oh mister, ahm but a poor country gurl, and ahl this fanciness and finery has me all a fluster’ batting my eyes at him like the prettiest little rural wench you ever seen!”

The larrikin Caroline’s burn mark crinkles whenever she throws out a shark-like grin as she tells her jokes, which is nearly always.

“And he fell for that? You chuckle. You had heard the story about how she lured away one of the Heigelen superiors on guard from one of the others that night, but not quite like this.

“And just what are you implying, boss? That I lack the necessary wiles and wicked ways of the fair sex? That I ain’t fancy enough?” Trooper Schuster manages to fix you an angry glare for all of two seconds before the two of you burst into laughter.

“Right, right, right! Enough of all that.” You’d recognize the boisterous bellow of Corporal ‘Bad Hand’ anywhere, even if he wasn’t flipping your mattress over with you still on it. “I never took you for a lazy bones, Prince, Up, up, up!”

You suppose you’re well enough to walk. And work. First things first…

Your fantasy about sliding down mountains of silver are interrupted by thoughts of a certain white-haired Heigelen Captain. Not a lot of Heigelen Guard were taken prisoner that night, the majority of them were trapped outside when ‘Bad Hand’ and his men locked the main gates behind them. The rest died in small groups or ones and twos throughout the palace. If a common prisoner of war gets thrown in the pit you dread to think of the treatment a warrior of light will face at the hands of the deranged Superior Syka.

Captain Elia von Harti must be having it rough. The dead orphans, the defeat, everything. She’d have realized by now that it’s her fault for bringing you through the Garden passageway. You bring Trooper Kid along with you, the sole surviving orphan Jessica slung across their back. The dungeons are overflowing, refugees that poured into the palace have been crammed into the dark under guard by silent skeletal minions, immune to the weeping and fearful whispers of those behind the bars.

You notice the people shrink back from you, an actual breathing human being, as you walk by. You wonder who has been here first, the Cultists or the Yellow Dogs. In the corner you spot a dishevelled looking figure. Captain Elia von Harti, Saint of Stuttgart chapel, looks a lot worse now than she did when you saw her two days ago. The little crippled orphan girl recognises her despite all that, actually speaking for once instead of just crying or whimpering.

“Lady Elly!”

Wait, Lady? Surely that’s just what the girl calls her, she’s not actually nobility on top of everything else.

“You poor thing! How di-“ “Lady Elly the monsters-“ “What happened to-“ “They got them and got eated!” “I’m so glad you’re sa-“

This goes on for some time. You and Trooper Kid glance at each other awkwardly as the blubbering and unintelligible conversation continues. Finally, with a larger than average sniffle, Captain von Harti wipes her eyes and nods at you, Trooper Kid carries the little Jessica off back to the infimary. It’s just the two of you, alone. Not counting the masses of refugees and skeletal guards of course.

“You didn’t lie. About saving her at least. Thank you, sir.” Some of the Captain’s lost resolve creeps its way back into her eyes. “I do not fear for myself, but I fear for the people here. The Sarsburg dungeons are beyond full to capacity… some much so that even the crypts and caverns below are being used now that Asgorga has been released. Please, sir, I know there is goodness in your heart. If there’s anything you can do, I would be in your debt eternally.”

“Truly?! I thank you, Corporal Adam.” You can hear the hope in her voice.

“Don't forgot to watch your own back, Saint. And no one calls me that…”
It takes a while to find her. You feel a shiver crawl up your spine as you enter one of the countless meeting chambers. You can’t even tell if it’s the main one, they’re all equally ostentatious. But this is where the Company headquarters are.

And your beloved Lord-Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova is currently in finishing a heated ‘debriefing’ with the ageing 4th Platoon Lieutenant. She seems absolutely livid about… Oh great, virtually all of the things Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova is angry about are because of you. Or partly because of you. Superior Syka and the Daemons, the missing Count Vermillio and his decimated Bloodknights, the prisoners taking up space and food all over, and some idiot released the fekking dragon.

Your heart stops for a moment as her icy blue predator eyes switches over to you. Normally the Lord-Captain is intimidating enough, but in her full battle regalia…

Lord-Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova holds your gaze long enough for you to start sweating despite the chill before she calmly turns back to 4th Platoon’s leader.

“You’re dismissed, Lieutenant.”
The old man of 4th Platoon moves pretty quickly for his age, he can’t get out of there fast enough.

...

The bollocking doesn’t last for an hour. But it’s close. Somewhere around the 58 minute mark, you know because the chamber actually had and expensive and heavy (too heavy to easily loot) contraption behind the Captain that tells the time. You fixed your eyes on that clock, staring straight ahead as Captain Kiranova verbally violated you to the core. The Captain switched it up too, between furious ranting that looked like it would end with your head being crushed under her desk, to the eerie hushed voice that promised unimaginable torments, punishments and endless piquet duties until the end of your days.

You feel exhausted, emasculated and You nearly cried when she threatened to dock your double pay. As far as ‘talks’ with superiors go, this was one of your worst.

“Am I understood?” She whispers. You honestly preferred the shouting to the whispering.

“Yes, Lord-Captain!”

“Hmm… Good. Now I assume you had a reason to talk to me before that particularly gregarious breach of discipline?”

Oh boy, where to start.

Unless we are in active combat situations I won't include it as an option unless players specially request it. You can use it for any time, but it will slow us down too much in social situations if we have to revote on it every time.

And it must, unfortunately, be called before the rolls.

You struggle to discern your commander's emotions throughout your report. You have as much success with that her as you did with Sergeant Frowns-at-Children, who you haven't seen since the siege actually.

From the details of your secret mission escorting Superior Syka, to the death(again) of Count Vermillio. There's a bit of a tense moment after you mention unchaining the dragon, it's clear Captain Kiranova doesn't believe you can bring it to heel.

And then there's the matter of your request. The Captain agrees to it too easily, so much so that you suspect something. Owing something to 'Cutthroat' Kiranova is never a good thing.

"And Count Vermillio. You still have his sword?"

"Yes, Captain."

"Lose it. That is not a request. Either give it up or ditch it, I don't particularly care which. Just don't get caught with it."

Maybe ask the captain if she has someone she dislikes enough.
Mayhaps we can call it even Stevens if we were to remove such a thorn in her side.
>>
Consensus seems to be Ditch It. But there is some discussion regarding -who- to ditch it on.

The Yellow Dogs are less than friendly, Superior Syka is out for Corporal Aeron's (your alias) blood (though her having the sword could be tricky to pull off), but it's by no means a short list of people that hate. Is there anyone in particular you can think of to frame or would you rather play it safe?
>>
>>171173
I think she doesn't want anything to do with his death associated with the black company as a whole. We did just get his right/lefthand man killed.

>>
>>171190
I'd go with the Yellow Dogs myself. No one would believe them if they blamed us. Or we could consult the captain and have this be a favor.
>>
>>171190
Play it safe. It was only the black company and the vampires inside the city when things went down. Well, Syka was there but blaming her could backfire. Anyway there's no one outside the company, like the yellow dogs, who could be seen to have plausibly caused the counts death. And planting it could go wrong regardless. Just toss it and be done with it.
>>
>>171201
>>171203

The impression you get from the Captain is that she wants nothing to do with it. If you did fork over the sword she would likely return it to the Necromancer as proof of the missing Count's eventual demise.

If the Lord-Captain does have any politiking in mind, it doesn't involve the sword.

Gained 4 Gelt (that’s your own share)
Lost Bittersteel

-------------------------------------

Ditching the sword is easy enough. A casual stroll across any one of the bridges around the palace, a surreptitious look around, then a swift chuck of a non-descript bit of wrapped clothe into the moat and all is said and done. Damn shame too, it was a good blade. That doesn’t matter though, because you’ve got your Double Pay!

You arrive back to the West Ballroom to see your squaddies gathered around a smiling Nissar Belhamun, who seems to have made a completely recovery. Looks like they’re discussing what to do tonight, regular duties have been palmed off to the Ranger and Cavalry Platoons for the past few days after the siege.

Cheers and whatever the equivalent of medieval high-fives are abound as your squad receives it’s payday, their dreams of spending large amounts of silver in a short time soon to be a reality.

“It’s the party of the age, matey! Women and wine! Harhar, wine and women, hell, women –made- of wine! All of Sarsburg is going to be there.” The Sabari ex-pirate looks like he’s gotten a head-start on the wine part at least. “And Nissar is coming too! He’s going to perform magic tricks! ALL of the magic tricks!”

“Oh aye, he’s right boss. All of Sarsburg. How many is that now, 20? Hahahaha!” Trooper Schuster sometimes laughs at her own grim jokes the loudest.

“So you’re not going?” Trooper Durvano looks surprisingly crestfallen.

“Psh, course I’m going. I’m just not going to be getting piss-drunk with the rest of the mercs, I’m competing in the International Mercenary Martial Arts (IMMA).” Caroline Schuster flashes an arrogant grin “And I’m going to win it too!”

Lancer ‘Jack’ looks slightly confused. “What makes it international?”

“Like… there’s mercenaries from all over. So it’s international, innit?”

“That’s not what-“ Lancer ‘Jack’ sighs and gives up.

“This ‘I M M A’ it is a duel of sorts, but without the swords, non?” Pietre Verdun asks “Then I will go. To be the best one most defeat both the Lord in his castle and the Peasant in the mud, this is true.”

You turn to Lancer ‘Jack’. “What about you Lance-Corporal? What are you doing?”

“…shopping.”

----------------------------------------

> “Women made of wine and ALL the party tricks? Count me in.” You can always throw in a drunken fistfight later in the night. [Party/Punch with Durvano and Belhamun]

and Verdun]

Oh I imagined it. But that's the sort of dirty little secret I can only tell strangers on the internet.
The place is fancy, probably a Count or Duke’s townhouse. Or it used to be fancy. Sacking a place tends to have a detrimental effect to a places class. And this location is lacking in class what it makes up for in cutthroat swords-for-hire. Some enterprising soul turned the courtyard that looks out into the garden into a makeshit fighting pit.

Looks like all the prettiest mercenaries are here. The shouts of the Yellow Dogs and Turncoats echo throughout the hall.

“GO DOGS! Aroo! Aroo!”

“Nahn Sharisa! Nahn Aqwia!”

Looks like a few matches have already been underway. That or the teeth and blood was there to begin with. To your left Pietre Verdun is wrapping up his hands, you can see the result of every bit of endless training and practice in his well-honed body. Caroline Schuster is standing on a table making crude gestures and fairly creative threats to all comers. She’s no slouch in terms of fitness either, and you can see the burns don’t stop at her face. And then there’s Corporal ‘Bad Hand’ in the corner, laughing like a madman through a bloody mouth as the Turncoats drag his defeated opponent away.

Your first opponent is…

You’re not really that fast, you just time it right. And you time it just right enough to be showy as well. The bruiser hasn’t so much as hurt a hair on your head when he slips over and you go in for the kill, pummelling his face into a bloody ruin.

Across from you Corporal Hadrien has trapped the lithe Ajiyimad Turncoat in a lock and- ouch. The Black Company members seem to be representing well. So much so that your bout in the semi-finals is against…

“Even if we must squabble like the low-born rabble, I am grateful to the Father for granting me the opportunity to match arms against you, mon ami.” Verdun offers a deep bow before taking a boxers stance.

You can’t hold a candle to Verdun in skill. You’re not fool enough to think just because he is a supreme swordsman means he isn’t proficient in bare-knucles. The Turncoat he faced in the last round was left an absolute ruin, torn down methodically by Verdun’s lightning lefts and deadly combinations. And his fancy fekking footwork.

He won’t know every dirty trick in the book. But he knows the basics and he’s way better at those than you can ever hope to be.

There’s no sand here, it’s cobblestone. But there’s been a lot of losers tonight. A lot of teeth. You grimace as you scoop some up and throw that at him, he doesn’t even react.

There’s not a huge amount of power behind his punches, but when he’s getting past your guard with nearly every single one he doesn’t need power. Chucking his discarded helmet at him does take him by surprise.

But it also pisses him off. When you throw a deck of cards, where you were keeping them god knows, he flies straight through them and throws a combo that nearly knocks you straight off your feet.

This is bad. You need to turns things around and quickly or it could all be over.

Since you have suggested it I will put it to a vote when calling the next rolls.

Keep in mind though, all damage you receive in the normal course of the match (besides crit-fails) will be non-lethal and short lasting. My Blood For His will be lethal damage against you (only 1 point though).

You're mad. You've thrown in some good, solid punches and every one of them Verdun has dodged or deflected. You feel like all your effort so far has gone to waste. It's time to use that.

You change things up. If you can't match him in skill, throw skill out the window. You stumble around like you've just been on a night out on the town, purposefully mismatching his fancy footwork. He's thrown by it all, trying to mirror your stance when your stance is all over the place. Before he can recognise that this whole act is a vulnerable improvisation you plant your feet, both of them, on his chest and launch yourself off of him.

He goes flying, crashing into the crowd behind him. They audience loves it, cheers and whoops drown everything else out. Verdun picks himself off the ground with a surprised cough because fixing you with a calculating glare.

That won't work twice.

If there's one thing you learnt in the Neumunster State Orphanage, it was how to properly hone your verbal abuse. You never would have made NCO without it.

"Heard you joined the Company because a Chevalisse pig-farmer took you down a peg or two."

Hmph. Nothing. Probably not the first time an opponent has tried to make him lose his cool. But those were Chevalisse knights mostly. Fancy opponents, with fancy insults. Time to try something a little more crass.

"You're so ugly that-"

You try all sorts of those, and the Knight-of-the-Line doesn't even seem register it. And then you mention his mother.

Your plan nearly backfires, Verdun virtually goes rabid and sends you straight on the backfoot with a rapid series of punches and swings. But the swings are wild, the punches lacking the form you've have to deal with so far. He leaves an opening, and you take it.

With a single, solid punch you bring the blackguard down.

Both you and Schuster help Verdun to his feet and set him down at one of the benches, him dizzedly demanding a rematch the whole time. You buy him a drink and make a mental note to yourself to smooth things over with him sometime. Verdun isn't the sort to literally backstab someone, but it would be nice if you don't have him chomping at the bit for a duel for the rest of your life. It's also clearly a weakness, one that could prove fatal in the future.

You turn expecting to see the smiling CPL 'Bad Hand' grinning at you as his future opponent for the finals. Only to see his limp form being dragged away from the ring, a streak of blood left behind him. At least he's still breathing, which is lucky given his opponent.

It's a Wildborn of the Yellow Dogs. One of the biggest you've ever seen. He refuses to take a break, ready to break you right here and now to seize the IMMA cup. The Yellow Dogs on all sides start chanting.

"Ooooh Ho Ho! Longhorn!"

"Oooooh Ho ho! Three-Trees!"

You swear you can literally see steam fume from his nostrils.

I can do this.

You take up your fighting stance, ready to leap into action. A hulking, lumbering brute like that? It’s basically the same as your last Yellow Dogs opponent. Just… more muscles… and horns. Dance around him, use your speed. Don’t let him get a real hit in and you’ll be fine.

… I can do this.

Longhorn-Three-Trees growls, as in actually growls, at you as he crouches. Then the bell rings, and he leaps. It’s a blur, like a small avalanche being fired out of an Ajiyimad Cannon. Nothing that big should move that fast. Nothing.

You can’t do this.

You think your life flashes before your eyes, though you’re fairly certain your life consisted of more than one giant fist flying in and out of your face. Darkness takes you.

12 HOURS LATER

Dark. Fekking. Father. Everything's so... fuzzy. It's hurts to even blink, so you wince. But that hurts too.

“All you did was warm him up, Bad Hand. At least I'm still pretty, and at least you never had to worry about your looks in the first place.” You grunt, tentatively stroking the massive bruise welching across most of the right side of your face. “Anyway, the Captain will be equally furious at us when she finds out the best of her Kriegstrom lost out to a Yellow Dog in a punch up.”

“Keep a secret from ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova? You –are- crazy.” You for one, know better than that. Well, you haven't told her that there's a pretty girl involved with your request to spare the prisoners but...

"Eh? Looks like your needed."

You look up to Trooper Kid waiting with a freshly washed uniform and your Blackthorn armour all polished and ready to protect your body from any further mutilation from roaming Wildborn. The note he hands you is from the Captain.

Present yourself at West Wing HQ at Midday. Full Dress Kit.

That's in one hour. "What do you think she..."

Corporal Bad Hand is already back to sleep by the time you get out of your cot. You look down to see Kid still peering straight up at you.

”Had a bit of a fight yourself did you?” Kid nods. ”Well… I hope you got a few good licks in at least.”

Kid grins up at you fiercely, first time you can actually recall him/her (you really need to figure that out sometime) smiling.

“Oho, win did you?” A thumbs up. “You shouldn’t go picking on the messenger boys or squires.”

A shake of the head. Kid gestures as tall and as wide as their little arms will let them.

”Hah, you’re full of it Trooper. But I like your guts.”

It’s good to see a genuine smile on their face. Maybe children aren’t inherently awful. You spot a few marks and signs of a well-fought struggle on Kid himself as you get dressed while little Trooper helps you into your fancy new Blackthorn armour. It suits you well. It doesn’t even rattle noticeably as you stride around the palace halls.

“Well at least you haven’t started smo-“ You stop outside the West Wing HQ only to see Trooper Kid finish rolling a cigarette, and quite well for a first-timer. “Are you serious right now, Trooper?”

Kid gives you a sardonic gaze as they lights up. You suppose getting killed by smoking is the least of their worries in this line of work. And it’s been so long since you’ve had one.

-----------------------------------------

> “Say… you have another one of those?” Join Kid for a smoke while you wait for midday. [Experience]

[i]“Not on my watch, lad.” [/i] You ignore Trooper Kid’s indignant expression as you grind the cigarette butt out on the marble floor. [i]“I’m trying, ahem, [green]succeeding[/green] at quitting smoking. Which means that everyone in my squad is –also- succeeding in quitting.”[/i]

You find it hard to find Kid’s glowering to be in any way intimidating. It’s enough to keep you entertained until midday rolls around and the Captain calls you in.

Lord-Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova precisely raises one of her perfect dark eyebrows at your appearance.

“Alas there is a thief in our midst! You, my Lord-Captain, have stolen my breath away. And no, no measly mugger marked me so.”

No response. Time to go for broke. You pose dramatically, the gauntlets of your Blackthorn armour raised up and poised to crush some invisible, miniscule threat from the heavens.

“I was struck! By something much more powerful than the fists or man or the blows of life's hardship, it was... your beauty.”

A gust of wind billows through, causing your coat to flutter dramatically.

...

“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s d-“

“Enough.”

That's plus one to combat DC for every Blackguard skill you have invested (similar to Cloak of Command). So in addition to +15 DC for being some baller armour it also adds +2DC from your Blackguard skills.

Hey guys.
If a wisp on >>171424 costs 20 silver and restores 8HP which equates to 2.5 silver per 1HP then as long as we fork over 2 and a half silver per use of My blood for his then we can use it to get that extra10DC without any real drawbacks.

“You’re not blessed with an overabundance in intellect, are you?”

“No, ma’am.”

“That’s quite alright. We don’t tend to fill the ranks of the Kriegstrom with the intellectuals of the company.” She’s smiling. And not the good, earth-shattering-orgasm-2-years-ago smile, you liked that smile. No, you don’t like –this- kind of smile. This is the extremely-unpleasant-punishment kind of smile.

“You talk a lot, Corporal.” Captain ‘Cutthroat’ Kiranova smiles eerily. “You’re a talker. It’s a terrible condition.”

The Captain looks up at you with her piercing blue eyes, you feel like a seagull floating just above a wingshark.

“I have just the cure for talkers. Full Company parade at first light tomorrow, no wait. Earlier than that, we can do it by torchlight until the sun comes out. You can do all that talking you did just then again and more. I’m sure everyone will be happy to get up nice and early to hear you.”

> “Begging your apologies, Captain, it was a poor joke! I’ve learnt my lesson, I won’t do it again!” You’re not above begging. [Clever]

So, I did a small bit of maths. Turns out that (assuming we critfail on 96-100) for every given roll, no matter the circumstances, the chances for a critfail 14.26 percent.

Normally this is where i say 3 3d10 system best system but he'd need to rework his DC shit for that.

I'm apprehensive at changing the system up mid-quest, but as so many seem to agree I should look into it.

It certainly bears further looking at, such as the 3 3d12 some anon mention. My main concern is shifting to suddenly from a system too prone to failure to one too prone to success. Beleguered Prince Quest uses a 3d8/10/12 system and they almost -never- seem to fail. Writing up the consequence of failure, and having it as a very real risk, are important aspects of a quest I think.
>>
>>172366
Agreed, its why I think you should have hard DC of you ever went with h 3d10.
Banish quest goes along well with their hard DC.
>>
>>171974
Can it even be used for that? I thought it was for beings of darkness only.
>>
>>172366
Man I am not going to say I don't enjoy the 3d10 system. Cause it's a good representation of perfectly failing or succeeding and the chances of it. But not sure it would work well with this system. As a lot of things would have to be rounded up or down by small margins. But it could make huge differences.
But hey I'm sure if we were getting a lot of 5's and under people would be advocating for it to stay. So it's dealers choice.
Well a well trained spiller hardly ever trips shit happens.
If anything you could incorporate a skill like raise critical/lower crit requirement. 1-6/ 97-100 for a max of 1-3 skill points used into it max. Or how ever you/us the players deem fair.
>>
>>173184
Yea, I'm more in favor for letting us spend levels or money on things that makes the dice roll in our favor instead of changing the whole system.
