Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you sort of fixed your soul and a priest declared you a prophet.

It is currently the 1st of Yuddha, in the year 936 NH.

You were expecting a reaction of some sort but perhaps not one so immediately reverent.

Herbad Zakariyya, a priest of the Suryan cult dwelling in the Pa'vala with whom your family have apparently allied, lies prostrate before you. The contingent of soldiers he leads, some two or three dozen men, have similarly fallen to their knees and pressed their foreheads to the ancient stone floor in imitation of the priest. You find it disconcerting that he already exerts such influence over your family's retainers that they'd worship a figure merely because he seems to.

Considering Surya apparently scorns you for stealing the soul of Vicitra from his grasp and shoving it back into the poor boy's body you might not be the best candidate for a prophet of Surya. That's a decision you've come to regret, but killing him after you went through all the trouble of bringing him back to life would seem like such a waste. You could always just ask him what prophecy he's talking about, but what if that tips him off to the fact you're not actually a prophet of any sort? Of course the alternative is to just play along, but then you run the risk of getting some detail wrong and revealing yourself as an impostor.

Unsure of yourself you stride forward, descending the last few steps to stand upon the cracked stone of the lower chamber. Zakariyya raises himself to his knees, his hands rested firmly upon his knees. “Aliyah has spoken of your return, Holy One. I am honored that you would reveal yourself to this humble servant of our Lord.”

>Best to play along for now. Claim to have received a vision from Surya and that you intend to restore the Suryan priesthood.
>What if that's not the prophecy? You should try to be more vague. Just say you were sent by Surya to reveal yourself to Zakariyya.
>You shouldn't just fake knowledge of some prophecy. Ask him what in Surya's name he's talking about.
>Adamantly deny being any sort of prophet, you were just here to ask his opinion on the horns.

Actually, we just wanted to find out what’s up with the horns we suddenly grew.
Is there some sort of test to find out if we’re actually Suryas Child (or whatevs it’s called)?

Be neutral. If we just play along and then leave for a while, doubts will arise. If we let him test us, he will have to believe.

I got an idea a few days ago. It’s a bit obvious in hind-sight so sorry if that has already been refuted.

Can we copy artifacts? We already learned that we do not need to *know* what a rune does to use it (see our tattoos). So how about we simply copy, for example, the communication brooches and then enchant it?
>>
>>155186
We need to fully understand the enchantment to copy it.

I'm probably gonna be a little more insistent about it for a while, since we've moved to /qst/. I know there are quite a few people floating around that aren't used to the way /tg/ does things.

Although I suppose originally I banned namefags because Anon's bullying of... Sargeras? Think that was the guy. It was consuming the thread. With IDs banning namefags only prevents that sorta lasting for multiple threads.

Anyway, I'll start writin' in a little bit. Gotta run out real quick for errands.
This will probably be kinda touch and go until 8 or so o'clock, at which point I'll be able to sit down for six or so hours and just write.
>>
>>155186
You have no idea what enchanting is and how it works.
The answer is no, we can't
>>
>>155186
We'll need the runes that the artifact uses for its enchantment to do that. Luckily, our mansion in El Amin has an enchanter's tower with nifty enchantment tools such as magnifying glasses and such. It's my plan to return there with Chryssa once we're able to get our hands on our Spirit Ivory to craft Suryan Firebrands and Inversion Rings.
>>
>>155186
We do need to understand the rune to enchant it.
>>
>>155196
We actually do understand how enchanting works.
>>
>>155186
It might be possible to recreate any given object with an artifact that copies its content with some sort of mark/create+mark array, but I doubt it would also copy the soul within. Still worth a try.

That was my initial thought as well, but what about our tattoos? We didn’t know the soul rune when we got it and neither did the people who made the tattoo. (They thought it was "life" as I recall.)

>>
>>155227
Dragon magic is different from regular enchanting. The tattoos were created with dragon magic.

Faggots and gentlemen. Now that we have a grandmaster earth vatis in our party, with experience in disassembling souls, we could pretty much groom her to win literally any fight.

All she needs is a way to perceive souls during combat. Then, she can literally slice the souls and memories of our enemies apart. There are two ways to do this. One: teach her meditation on forms. This might be difficult, since she doesn't know much Marsala Ve.

The second method would be to experiment combining metal and nature magic to provide us with 'soul vision' and teach it to Chryssa. We already know nature+fire gives heatvision, and nature+earth gives tremorsense. It should be simple enough.

What do you guys think? Also, I have a bunch of other ideas, should I post them?

>>
>>155258
Been too long since I read the pastebins, it seems…
>>
>>155227
The old woman who tattoo'd it had was probably taught orally what the rune means and had to come to an understanding of it.
>>155258
Dragon magic is rituals and shit. This is more like the voidbardians maintaining weak runic understanding by word of mouth and tradition.

>>
>>155292
The "rob" part.
>>
>>155300
You're rob, now fuck off
>>
>>155294
Only in the same way that us enchanting is a fucking ritual. Enchanting is gods writing while dragonic magic is gods "speech"
I missed you faggots
>>
>>155303
No, on both counts. Go blow some horses.
>>
>>155312
You first rob.
>>
Draconic magic typically alters the nature of something in a more "on the fly" manner than enchanting. They can both be used to accomplish the same thing and are often used in concert, but there's a lot more room to fuck up a ritual than an enchantment.
>>
>>155308
Except she never understood what therune actually meant not to mention the enchantment was permanent which is impossible with regular enchantments.
>>
>>155324
...Worse than tearing holes in reality?
>>
>>155336
He didn't say the fuck ups would be worse. Just more potential for them to happen.
>>
>>155327
The tattoo doesn't need to be permanent if it feeds on the soul of the body it's tattooed on. As to her not understanding the rune she understood enough to give a weaker version of the true rune just like the voidbardians tattoos still maintain their power even after the understanding of the exact rune and its exact meaning are gone. They simply function less efficiently.
>>
>>155324
Fuck off faggot.
>>
>>155375
>feeds on the soul of the body it's tattooed on
By this one phrase it shows you know nothing of enchanting.
>>
>>155375
>if it feeds on the soul of the body it's tattooed on
Except that's a dragon magic thing.
>>
>>155336
I think that fucking up a draconic ritual by altering something in a way we don't want would actually be worse for us than a tear in reality now. Fixing that would be trickier than fixing reality simply because we have so much experience with fixing reality.
>>
>>155467
Jesus christ you're retarded.

Fixing reality is fixing reality. It's manipulation of the strings to repair a breach either way. No difference in how it's done.
>>
>>155467
So when are we going to use shaping arts to check our memories of the time we touched our soul to the gate?
>>
>>155491
Right after we finish the rest of the book.

And then make our companions read it. Cause everyone in our party should know how to Husk cast.
>>
>>155502
>knowing how to husk cast
>good
Pick one every time we used husk casting it did more damage to reality because we couldn't control it.
>>
>>155237
Soma doesn't run during the summer though
>>
>>155531
we made an ancient spirit our bitch with it.
>>
>>155541
Only because of our only artifacts and it created a worse problem which took somw serious bullshit to fix.
>>
>>155491
Why bother with that when we can just go skinny dipping in the gate? It's not like some tiny gate parasite has even the tiniest of chances of infecting us anymore.
>>155531
Are you retarded? We've used husk casting to repair reality as often as we did to damage it. And every time we did it, we came out on top by a pretty large margin.
>>
>>155700
>>155700
Are you retarded? The only reason we did so well was because of the help we got.
And the only reason we haven't gone back to the gate is because it would take too much time to do.
>>
>>155557

No bullshit, we made the DC.
>>
>>155531
How are you this dumb?
>>
>>155782
Because of the help we got you dumbshit.
>>
>>155761
Going back to the gate is as simple as tearing a small hole in reality and slipping into the void.

Also, that tear was fuckhuge. It ripped open the spirit's realm, and then ripped open the reality it was in, big enough for that giant centipede thing to come through. Nobody is saying we should pour in 20 husk at a time. Just 1 or 2 is enough to kill or disable most things. 20 husk is incinerating mama dragon-tier power.

It's probably enough to scare that water spirit in the Pani Temple shitless if we ever want to get back that dracolich heart. It would likely end the dragon attacks, since it's obviously what they're looking for.

And then we can cannibalize the soul within to get fire GM, or destroy it by using the slow meta with earth magic, which lets you destroy artifacts apparently. Or do whatever else. Anyway, enough autism for one post.
>>
>>155811
He'd kick our ass
>>
Aaaaand back. Sorry about that, had to pick up my sister and run her through the bookstore. Then the cats needed food and my parents needed wine. Back now though, and writin'.
>>
>>155817
>had to pick up my sister
Soma pls, you can fug your sister after you write for us.
>>
>>155489
Well, there's actually some differences between how Enchanting and Draconic Magic manipulate the strings. I don't want to get into specifics, because I want y'all to discover them through Mik's actions, but suffice to say it would be harder for Mik to... I don't know, un-jellify someone's skeletal structure after trying to make their bones self-repairing than it would to simply stitch closed a tear into the void.
>>
>>155804
Whenever we used husk casting we damaged reality you really want to teach Prof that shit?
>>
>>155813
How the fuck would you even know that? Last time we saw him, we weren't even one-time GM. Right now, spirits and void entities shit their pants whenever we do anything.

If you're that scared of Butthole Face, you could push for enlisting Mahana's help. He's probably owe us a lot for conquering the realm of a spirit that old.

>>155817
Something something incest.
>>
Reminder that even fucking humans once slaved spirits so it obviously would be easier for a samjan to do it
>>
>>155831
The only time we actually damaged reality was when we pumped 100+ Husk into one attack.
>>
>>155811
You do realize Mahana was distracting the Sarvocco when we shot it right? If we fought it by ourselves we have lost hands down.
>>
>>155849
Mahana was in a hole trying to not die when we shot that bitch-ass water spirit.
>>
>>155831
>you really want to teach Prof that shit

Agreeing with this guy. There's also a decent chance that Prof husk-casting would fuck up the spirits in his arm, which would have a negative effect on him.
>>
>>155860
That has absolutely no evidence to support it.
>>
>>155849
We have our companions, our Meseeks box, and Mahana is still around.

>>155844
If anyone is dumb enough to pump all his husk into one attack, it's Prof.

Speaking of Prof: He's one GM meditation away from being a fire grandmaster.
>>
>>155831
>>155860
He doesn't need to husk cast but he should learn basic shaping arts to see if he can recover his memories.
>inb4 a samjan killed his entire family
>>
>>155844
Nah, you damaged reality every time. You only tore reality when you pumped... I think it was like forty or fifty something husk into the pistol. Of course, it's not yet clear whether that was the minimum necessary to tear reality or if you blew through the minimum and just tore shit up.
It's probably the latter though, in Mik's opinion.
>>
>>155871
>You only tore reality when you pumped... I think it was like forty or fifty something husk into the pistol.
nigga you said we pumped the entirety of his reserves into it (which you also said were considerably larger than ours) AND some of ours.

We can probably do the channeling vys into the divine essence thing for him, while we use Nature to share our perceptions. It would be pretty easy.

Note that he hinted at some point towards a traumatic encounter with void beings. His sanity is already fragile; we should repair it before we restore his memories.

Water+Metal into the cracks in his divine essence should do it.
>>
>>155877
Sure, but each "point" of husk takes two points off your reserves. So you have 70 vys at your disposal. That means you have 35 points of husk you can pump into things.
>>
>>155859
The spirit was focused on Mahana. It couldn't attack unless he wanted a cat biting his ass.
>>155844
No we damage reality whenever we spend with husk.
>>
It's a really petty thing to see anons try to prevent companions from getting as strong as us by denying them chances to learn.

If you wanna prevent him from being dumb about it then impress upon him the seriousness of it. Better that than have him come across a situation where being able to Husk cast would save his (or our) life.
>>
>>155886
You retconning things mid argument annoys me.
>>
>>155889
Damage isn't the same as tear, though. Besides, a little weakening of reality is perfectly healthy. Helps you meditate, boosts ambient vys, makes cats happier when you give them shrines. It'll all be fine, anon.

>>155890
There are so many other ways of making Prof stronger. I've a list of companion upgrades in a pastebin right now, in fact, and all of them are better ideas than giving our least stable companion our most dangerous weapon.

Just to clarify a little regarding Prof, he probably wouldn't use Husk casting very often despite the fact he has way more Husk at his disposal than most would initially suspect. Due to his arm, and all that. It would be a last ditch effort for him, a "fuck everything" secret weapon.

We don't actually have any evidence of it fucking with him. Nor do we know if we could "subjugate" it.
>>Meditate on forms with Darzi while practicing Nature while sparring at the same time.

>>Teach Zahak how to read. No son of ours should be illiterate.
>>Also teach him the Manipulate meta so he can turn the pages. And open doors and stuff because he isn't a raptor.
simple but easy tasks we should get around to doing.

But these are all minor things. We should teach every member of our party to Husk cast for sticky situations they may fall into in the future. Also we should get each party member at least one GM.
>>
why don't we just write a fucking book and tell them to read it, there problem solved!
>>
>>155991

Nigger the book Shaping Arts that we have details exactly how to husk cast.

It's simply a matter of giving them the book to read. Then probably answering any questions they may have.
>>
>>155956
Speaking of healing what would happen if we changed our self image so in identified it's body as someone else and used healing magic?
>>
>>155984
>We don't actually have any evidence of it fucking with him. Nor do we know if we could "subjugate" it.

Every time we looked at his reserves or at his soul, there was one thing or another abnormal about it. The spirits may not be doing it on purpose, so you have a point, but if we want to fix his arm, we so need to change the arrangement somehow. Talking to the spirits is a good start.

I mean fucking about with Rhynian enchantments is always risky, so this could take some time if we want to be careful about not maiming Prof's soul. Which is why I'm not pushing for this one so much.

>>With Fulvia's help and Metal magic, cannibalize her old body and graft them onto her new body.
>yeahno
Yeah, okay. We have a fuckton of better things to do anyway.

>we dont know how effective it will be in application
She is a GM Earth Vatis, and her trait gives her a +6 to erosion. She could definitely make people forget things on the fly, and OHKO them if she wears the sleeve. At the very minimum.

It might also turn out that she can directly shatter divine essence or some shit, dropping dragons left and right like it's nothing. Which is why I really want this one.

>>156007
No. No, it doesn't. Go back to the thread we read it and actually pay attention. Do not cross start, do not collect 200 dollars.

The Shaping Arts culminates in Husk casting. I don't think it is focused on reshaping the body.

Soma confirmed before that The Shaping Arts is focused on the manipulation of the soul.

Still might be possible because of it i just dont think that it is going to spell it out for us.

You hold up a hand to beg pause. “I'm sorry, but you've lost me. What prophesy are you talking about? I've only come to speak with you regarding these horns sprouting from my skull. I woke up with them following a recent meditation, and I'm not quite sure what to make of them. I knew the Children of Surya were said to have horns, so I thought a priest of Surya the most logical person to ask.”

“Aliyah said you would be ignorant of the role you had to play in our ascension.” Zakariyya intones sagely, rising steadily to his feet. “My apologies, Holy One, I should have considered your ignorance of these matters. The prophet has decreed that when the time has come for us to reassert our position within the Shah's court and the world at large a figure will appear blessed by Surya as one of his Children. He will rule at the right hand of the Prophet, as her consort and as the enforcer of her will.”

You hope this Prophet is at least moderately attractive, if they expect you to bed her. “I assume there's some manner of test you can conduct to determine whether or not I am a Child in truth.”

The priest holds up five fingers, revealing the sun symbol tattooed onto the palm of his hand. “The Holy One will face four great trials. The first is obvious, he will have the appearance of a Child. Horns, black or bronze skin, with a soul which gleams like gold. Second, he will be forced to go among the Aghtaki.”

Well you've got both of those checked off, though they're both awfully general. Anyone traveling the Pa'vala could be said to 'go among' the Aghtaki, and with a loose enough interpretation everyone's soul could be called golden. The horns would be a bit hard to replicate, but Chryssa has them just as you do and this priest wasn't falling all over himself to worship her.

Zakariyya lowers one of his fingers. “Third, he will be honored among all the tribes of our ancestors as a warrior of great skill.” You're reminded suddenly of the tattoos scrawling their way across your forearms. As Parbau, you've certainly been honored by one tribe of nomads as a warrior of great renown. You've also been hailed as Matha by the armies of the house Abdul-Hakim. Still, that seems an awfully general requirement, ancestors is such a vague term.

The third finger falls as the priest continues. “Fourth, the Holy One will stand at a point between Mortal and God. He will be the master of spirits which stalk the land and a bane to the monsters which dwell beyond.” This is starting to get a little eerie. Master might be something of a strong term, but you've certainly been an ally to many and you're servant to none. Mahana also owes you an enormous debt, which counts for something, and you've banished quite a number of entities back to the void.

There is no way I'm going back and rereading the entire quest to scoop up every scrap of hint that lead me to this conclusion, so... Agree to disagree?

Only one finger remains raised, and the priest lowers his voice to a reverent whisper. “Finally, the Herald of Ascension will wear the armor of the ancient Shahanshah, for he shall be Surya's regent in the mortal realm and alongside the prophet guide our people into a new Golden Age.”

You were hoping for a slightly more substantive test, these are all just vague descriptions which might apply to any number of people. What even constitutes the Shahanshah's armor? In depictions of the Thousand Year Emperor, he wears something not dissimilar to your Warlock Armor. However, the armor Mahana sent you to recover, of the first Al-Hikar ruler of Hiacia, was said to be quite dissimilar. Do you already satisfy the final requirement, or would you be required to go on a journey into the depths of the Pa'vala to accomplish this final trial?

It is definitely not in the Pa'vala, unless I'm confusing the armors.

The armor of Al-Hikar was said to be gifted by Dhatu himself. Behold, a post from Thread 17, before we even knew Dhatu was a thing:

[from http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/31223331/#p31224518]

>“Elaudia, m'boy, is an empty backwater. The only natives are mostly criminals and simpletons, only good for manual labor. They're also few and far between. I can claim to have only seen a handful of people in those jungles in all the weeks I spent hunting there. One of them was some sort of warped half-snake creature. I had to put her down, she had gone mad living in some old ruin to their vile 'snake god'. Why they can't worship a proper pantheon I'll never know.”

>He rambles on about the inferiority of Elaudian culture, people, and their nonexistent crafts for what feels like a few more hours. For a man who professes to having only met a handful of Elaudians he certainly has formed strong opinions of them. Finally he tosses out another useful tidbit though. “One of them mentioned some ancient sort of armor they'd found in one of those old temples, but when I asked to see it he wouldn't let me! They even threatened to attack me when I tried to force my way inside! Can you believe the audacity of it? Apparently it was a gift from some 'Dhatu' figure. They called him the Many-Faced Constant.”
[next post]
>Huh, that's curious. Dhatu just means 'metal' in your language. Maybe he's just making stuff up.

Soma's foreshadowings have nothing on my autism.

We should mention that we are not in entirely good graces with Surya. We shouldn't go into specifics, just that he isn't really happy with us right now and we know this because a messenger of surya told us that we had done a vague something to displeased him. This means that the sum total of the hundreds of enchanters and vatis from this era think the armor is in the vault. They lived during this era. They are our best source.

> However, we have searched those vaults from floor to ceiling and inspected each and every suit of armor stored within but none have been the armor we seek...Others think it is hidden away somewhere underneath the Imperial Vaults, which were reconstructed based on the designs of the original following the catastrophic collapse of a runic array. This means that they couldn't find it, and they disagree on what the armor is or where it is.

No, it doesn't. It is an account from people who have been in the Paramatma for centuries. We know it's centuries, because nobody knew that sphere contained people, and these are Samjan who live for centuries. It was kept inactive as a novelty. This info is not only out of date, but has the word "supposedly" attached to it.
>This means that they couldn't find it, and they disagree on what the armor is or where it is.
And also your source disagrees with itself. How the fuck does that make it a good source?

Hodei, was talking about something from just a while ago. First-hand experience. Actually recent. Even if the armor was under the imperial vault, it's obviously not there anymore, since it's in an Elaudian temple now.

Are you telling me your "um, maybe, hundreds of years ago" source is worth trying to rob the Imperial Vault when we can go explore a temple without facing execution if caught?

Or did you conveniently forget that? Furthermore, that's Dhatu's holy armor, no the Al Hikar.

You know what the Samjan in the orb did before they entered the Paramatma? They were the foremost vatis and enchanters of their time. When they say something is supposed to be somewhere, I'll believe far more than some pompous noble who flits around for rumors and the anon sucking his dick.

>Hodei, was talking about something from just a while ago. First-hand experience. Actually recent. Even if the armor was under the imperial vault, it's obviously not there anymore, since it's in an Elaudian temple now.

That's stupidly ignorant. They didn't say it's not at the vault. Let me repeat just one more time for your dimwitted mind.

>Some among us theorize that it may not actually be a suit of armor, but rather some sort of metaphor. Others think it is hidden away somewhere underneath the Imperial Vaults, which were reconstructed based on the designs of the original following the catastrophic collapse of a runic array. They think it's buried further down from the vault, or it's metaphorical. Either would make more sense than the armor of DHATU being the Al Hikar Armor.

Being a braggart does not account for him knowing who Dhatu is, when nobody did. He was talking about an incredibly big deal without even knowing about it.

The armor of Dhatu IS the armor of Al-Hikar. This has been stated repeatedly. The 1000-Year-Old Emperor is a well known subject to all Samjan, including Mik, and this is big a part of it.

You think you've finally asked all the questions you wanted to ask. Standing, you roll your shoulders. As you're about to walk away one more thought occurs to you. “Actually, you never told me. Where am I supposed to find the Armor of Al-Hikar? What does it look like?”

The cat cranes its neck to look at you. “Hmm, I would've thought it self explanatory. The Al-Hikar dynasty founded the city which came to be called Hiacia. Hikar, Hiacia, you mortals have never been particularly good at remembering your own languages. Regardless, it ought to be stored somewhere within the city. So far as I recall it was light armor, heavily enchanted. I recall it could be shaped by the wearer into a number of different configurations for different purposes. I'm sure it ought to be fairly self evident, should you find it.”

Mahana was literally there while it was being worn and used, and he actually has perfect memory. There you fucking go. It's underneath Hiacia.

The armor was actually given to the founder of the Al-Hikar dynasty, back when Samjan were still slightly more tan versions of Elves prior to the meddling of the Gods. They cut away the excess and the vestigial bits and fixed everything back up. At least, that's what Mahana told you. Thousand Year Emperor came way, way later.

You're shitting me, right? Strawmanning my statements does not make them any less valid. Your sources have both been completely cut off from the rest of the world for millenia. So yeah, "lol they're old."

Also, Mahana's reputation is anything but reliable, being a spirit, and the Paramatma has literally no reputation at all. So that's yet another massive ass pull from you. Your sources are shit, your claims are self-defeating, and your logic is that of an inbred squirrel.
>>
>>156456
Poor, poor anon. Resulting to Ad Hominem? Not even bothering to defend your beloved dom Hodei anymore? You've truly given up. You just haven't realized it yet. Soma has directly stated that half of your arguments are flawed. We've already picked apart the rest.

It's a pity that you don't realize in this setting, age isn't the detriment to information that you think it is. You might actually be half a decent player if you did.
>>
Just throwing this out there since it hasn't been mentioned yet.

The paramata has been scanning the lands for thousands of years to find people who are worthy to join them. So they're not as cut off as you might think.

I just realized I tossed out an important hint relating to the Armor of Al-Hikar on tumblr without really drawing any attention to it. Hang on a sec. I'll dig it up after the post. Relates to how the Al-Hikar dynasty died out in the male line.

Ad Hominem is when you attack the person making the argument instead of refuting the argument itself. I refuted your argument, and THEN called you a faggot, as per 4chan custom. Learn the meanings of the terms you use, shit-for-brains.

I don't need to defend Hodei. He's a dick. But he let slip a big information. I do admit that the two armors may not be the same given what Soma said, since I've been confusing the Al-Hikars with the 1000-Year-Old Emperor. I thought they were the same dude.

But my other arguments? You and your gene-deficient buddy have dick to pick them apart aside "time does not matter in this setting, because I said so." Seriously, if that's what you think constitutes an argument, you should go ahead and repeat high-school English.

You're just a retard who would travel into the worst place possible for us to travel to, based on a whim. Because that's all it is; your precious sources are no true sources, and I told you why already.

>>156463
Actually, they have not. It had been so long since they got a new member, they took Mik in despite him not being up to par as an enchanter. I mean, all he enchanted so far was a blanket and pipe. They just wanted to keep up on current events. They literally said this. Mik literally commented how this hurt his feelings.

Learn to fucking read, because they said literally the exact opposite of what you said, you illiterate mongoloid.

>>
>>156486
>they took Mik in despite him not being up to par as an enchanter.
See that's just wrong. They knew about mik for a long time before he approached them. And they wanted him for his unique experiences concerning void being and spirits.
>>
You run the tips of your fingers across the curve of your horns, the texture of their surface rough against your fingertips. “Well, I've certainly got the first two requirements checked off. I was banished for slandering Padishah Kadir, though I've since been unbanished for saving his life. The appearance, I think, is incontestable. My soul has become a curious thing indeed, though I think it's important to point out that everyone's soul gleams like gold unless you carve through the husk to the shell.”

Zakariyya is obviously confused, so you choose to clarify. “There are three parts to every mortal's soul. The classical names for these parts back in the days of Hiacia were the Husk, the Shell, and the Shard. The husk is the outermost layer and contains the memories and personality of the individual. It's also constantly degrading into vys. Then of course the shell protects the shard, for without the shell there is nothing to bind one's soul to their mortal form. The shard is what actually animates an individual and gives them life.”

By the way the man stares at you in absolute awe, you might as well have told him you fucked Pani. “As for the third requirement, well... you're aware that I've been hailed as Matha alongside my companion Mortia.” You peel back the sleeves of your robes to show off your tattoos. “I've also received these as a sign of my status as Parbau among the nomads. They bind my soul within my body and prevent outside tampering. What this means... well, I'm still not really sure. In theory it makes my shell redundant, meaning I could live even without that portion of my soul. Whether that is in fact the case remains to be seen.”

You let your arm fall, the sleeve falling back into place. “As for your fourth requirement, I've just returned from the realm of a spirit by the name of Mahana Atma'agaprthvi. There I aided him in battle against another, older spirit of the sea whom I contributed in large part to the destruction of. The technique which I used to ultimately defeat the spirit, that of channeling the husk of my soul into an artifact and using the weapon in this enhanced state to carve away great portions of the hostile spirit, ultimately cut a hole in reality through which a world-consuming monstrosity from the void emerged.”

“It's against this creature that I achieved Grandmastery of the elemental school Metal, and in the process attained these horns. I reinforced my shell, and ascended for a moment beyond my mortal form. In this state halfway between spirit and mortal I beat the entity back into the hole from which it crawled and repaired the tear I created. Of course, in the process I was reduced to little more than a pile of organs loosely contained within a sack of skin. However, upon healing my wounds these horns sprouted from my skull. I believe that the process of ascending altered my self-image to include aspects of my ascended form.”

>>156486
I'm sorry that you think the world works this way. I'm sorry that you think repeating an argument somehow makes it more valid. I'm sorry that you don't think prior establishment of principles is a thing and that debaters needs to mindlessly regurgitate every point they said previously to make it valid in the round.

It's really a waste. You have so much potential. You just choose to stick it all up your ass.
>>
You require a moment after that explanation to gather your thoughts and catch your breath, but once you've accomplished that you go on. “So, in summary, I believe I've completed the fourth trial as well. As for your fifth... well, I can't really say. So far as I'm aware the Armor of the Al-Hikar resides somewhere in Hiacia, though I've my suspicions that it may have been moved to Elaudia. At least, there's another armor there gifted to mortal men by the gods according to a man whom I spoke with some time ago.”

You also seem to recall that the male line of the Al-Hikar dynasty was slaughtered whilst attending some ceremony to placate Surya, sacrificed from what you recall by the priest conducting the ritual. You wonder if that might have something to do with the reason nobody can find the armor where everyone seems to think it ought to be. Regardless, you've more important matters to attend to for the moment.

“I was hoping you'd have something more substantive, an exacting method by which I might test my status as a Child of Surya, but in the absence of that what do you think I ought to do?” It will have to wait until after you've returned from Elaudia, but you're curious nonetheless. “I've told you the elements of my story I deem relevant to your trials, and leave the rest in your hands.”

Zakariyya seems to realize that he's been staring at you for quite some time now with his jaw hanging limply open and his eyes wide in wonder. It was frankly making you a little uncomfortable. Fortunately he collects himself, taking a deep breath before answering. “The records speak of the Children going on a pilgrimage of sorts, into the Heart of Surya to test themselves. If there was a way to say definitively you were numbered among them, that would be it. What exactly this means, I'm not certain. As for your latter question, I cannot judge you with any authority. I would ask your permission to report back to Aliyah and ask of her guidance. You would be welcome to accompany me, but I would not ask this of you.”

A journey into the Heart of Surya... perhaps passage through one of the gates in the void? That would make the most sense to you, at least.

“I've already passed into the heart of Surya.” You feel it important to mention this, since it irks you that a priest of a god wouldn't even know their own faith's rituals. “It was well before I attained the horns which currently rest atop my head. Months ago, in fact. You speak of the gates which reside within the void, which the Children of the Gods use to pass rapidly between layers of reality. I entered one, and a parasite latched itself to my soul. Other than that I gained little from the experience except nearly being ripped apart.”

Zakariyya seems hesitant, as though he's reluctant to contradict you. “That is not how the records describe the pilgrimage, Holy One. You mention a gate, this much is correct. A swirling vortex of pure vys tunneling through the Gods' creation. According to surviving accounts the Child would pass through this gate, and the vortex would pull them forward into a realm wholly unlike ours and entirely dissimilar to the void. They describe it as overwhelming, but with the powers granted to them they walk through a realm of spiritual fire. They return to the mortal realm altered by the experience. Some have fire burning constantly just beneath their skin, others grow larger horns or gain markings upon their skin.”

Well that's not at all what you experienced. Come to think of it, you didn't pass into a different layer of reality either. Perhaps you failed to successfully journey through the gate, but only entered it and exited prematurely? “Regardless, I give you permission to journey south and inform your prophet of my existence Herbad. All I ask is that you tell her exactly what I've told you, regarding my accomplishments and my nature. I will not be joining you, I've pressing matters to attend to in Elaudia.”

The priest bows low, most of his men have risen to their feet at this point and are attending to their own business. “I will see your will carried out, Holy One. I thank you for permitting a lowly servant such as I to attend to this matter.”

What else were you supposed to do? He's your only connection to this cult. “Not at all, Zakariyya. I thank you for taking care of this in my absence. If there's nothing else, I wish to relax and meditate after my recent trials.”

He indicates that there's nothing else by bowing once more, and after a moment of silence you turn towards the entrance. An odd encounter, but a fruitful one. Your thoughts turn towards what you'll do to fill the rest of the day, surprisingly unconcerned by the revelation that you might fulfill the requirements of some ancient prophecy. Perhaps that's because you know you won't have to deal with it anytime in the near future.

>Get some sleep, hopefully that will fix the rest of your soul now that you've unclogged it.

SHAPING ARTS
>>
>>156649
Might be related to aging. Humans and elves were said to be mortal because their bodies are imperfect containers for their souls and break down over time- something Samjan bodies usually overcome due to being altered by gods or whatever.

Mik's soul is not like regular souls anymore, so we might've made ourselves mortal, like the Children of Surya.

I'd be concerned, but Mik has enough bullshit to stand toe-to-toe with the average shonen protagonist, so it's a temporary setback at best.

The journey back to the dungeons beneath the palace of Nazir is long but peaceful. You pass a number of guard patrols going about their business but encounter none of the plethora of hostile creatures which dwell down in these forsaken tunnels. As you emerge from the tunnel one of the guards scrambles to level his spear at you, saying something about Pani's mother before his companion stops him. Once that misunderstanding is cleared up you continue on your way, clearing the dungeons and heading for the stairs.

Only once you reach your room do you allow yourself to relax. The book on Shaping Arts slips from the inside of your cloak, its fine leather binding pleasant to the touch. You find a comfortable spot in the sitting room, sprawled across a couch just before the fireplace. It isn't lit at the moment, nor does it need to be, but some residual heat seeps from the stones to ward off what little remains of the early morning chill. Most of the palace is alive with activity, though you've yet to see any of your companions awake.

It takes you a moment to find where you'd previously stopped reading, but eventually you find the passage in question. It was a description of something which to you sounded almost exactly like the process of Nature Magic. The books suggest channeling vys to expand the threads which compose the mind, and intertwining them with the fabric of reality to detect those around you and communicate with others. However, it's interesting to notice the book also suggest that in this state one might alter the strings on the fly by 'tugging' the threads which compose the mind.

Apparently this does little when one is merely attempting to alter the landscape, though it can be used to encourage plants to grow in certain directions or in certain shapes with the proper application of vys or to control the minds of very simple creatures. However, when one attempts this upon the mind of a mortal it can be used to subtly alter their pattern of thoughts. Because the manipulation of the mind also entails some manipulation of the soul, according to the book at least, one might also alter memories this way. It's a complicated process, but entirely possible with sufficient control.

The books explains that by proper manipulation of the strings which compose the mind the caster can force the individual to revisit old memories. When they do this the caster knows that the area of the string he's manipulating corresponds to the area of the soul where that memory is stored, and so by simply snipping out that portion of the string and rebinding it without that memory they can remove that memory.

It goes on to state that memories can be added through similar means, and that this technique is also key to altering one's self image, but it's at about that time you hear a knock upon your door. You mark your page with a strip of cloth and gently close the book, slipping it into your cloak before you rise from your seat.
>Shaping Arts (8/17 Chapters Read)

You make your way across the room to the door, pulling it open a crack to see who waits on the other side. Darzi, still disheveled and only partially dressed, stands outside your door. You pull it open the rest of the way to allow her inside, and she kisses you briefly on the cheek as she passes by.

Your companion collapses onto the couch where you'd previously been sitting, a yawn escaping her. “Two things.” She states, stretching her arm across her chest. “I was hoping you could loan me that book you showed us earlier, the one about Metal magic with the little moving figures. I feel learning some Metal would be wise considering the armor I wear. Anything on Fire magic would also be appreciated, I've been neglecting it recently.”

Thinking back on the books you've got tucked away in your cloak, there's the Ritual Book of Surya. That would serve her needs well you imagine. “I've got something which might suffice, what was the second thing?”

She glances back at you, over the top of the couch. “I was hoping we could work in some sparring at some point today, and maybe a bath afterwards. I would ask Chryssa, but we're still not quite on speaking terms. You're the second most skilled person in the party when it comes to Marsala Ve, and I feel like I'm on the cusp of a breakthrough. Maybe we could do meditation on forms, since I'd like to at least be good enough at Nature magic to use it for something worthwhile. Rather than just being able to tell how many worms are in the garden.”

>Loan her the Metal Codex and the Ritual Book, but you had other things in mind for meditation.

<Soma_QM> Well, the stereotype of experienced Vatis is that they hate answering questions. The more questions they ask the more annoying they find you.

Mortia and Fulvia. Profectus thinks Mik's teaching was his own idea. Darzi just sorta thinks it was a sudden breakthrough. Chrys doesn't really think about it, she just went with the flow. Zahak thinks it was because he was working on his Papa that he had a realization.

The two books in question find their way into your hands, not due to any conscious effort on your part. Gods above, Ricky was convenient. Getting the cloak was probably the best decision you ever made. “I don't mind loaning you the books, but be careful with them. The Metal Codex in particular is extremely valuable. Oh, and I noticed as I was reading that the figures in the book do a lot of fighting, but not in a form I'm familiar with. Do you think you could try and identify it while you're reading?”

“Sure, if I can find anything on it I'll tell you.” Darzi takes the books carefully, setting them aside for now. “Assuming that the book was written by some monastic order dedicated to the Metal god, Dhatu or whatever his name was, it's probably the form of martial arts they used when the text was written. Before the Shah passed down a decree demanding the standardization of military training there were hundreds of different traditions in simultaneous use throughout the Shahdom.”

You hadn't heard about this, but you suppose military history was never your area of interest. “Also, the Metal Codex tends to stiff you if you try to read it before having advanced to the next level of competence. It's picky in that regard. All I can suggest is using the meditation it advances, and then reading on. The methods it suggest are truly exceptional as you get into the later chapters, and in large part contributed to my sprouting horns.” You flick one of the protrusions from your skull for emphasis.

“Also, with the Ritual Book of Surya there is a lot of content that you can just skip over. Some of it is just nonsense about the practices of Suryan Priest. Burning themselves alive, scorching their limbs in penitence, so on and so forth. However, its suggestions regarding illusions are particularly valuable, at least that's what I found.”

Darzi nods, absorbing the information readily. “You know, I'm usually kind of afraid to ask you questions. Just because I don't want to seem stupid by asking something you find obvious, but you're really not as bad as the playwrights tend to portray Grandmaster Vatis.”

That strikes you as extremely odd. “Why would you ever be afraid to ask me a question, of all people? I mean, for the most part you've been right there alongside me as I advanced. Of course I wouldn't find your questions idiotic. Perhaps slightly annoying if you asked too many too rapidly, but never idiotic. Believe me, I've been in your position quite recently. I remember my Master used to tell me that there are no stupid questions, only stupid people. Imagine having that mantra repeated to you every day as a struggling apprentice.”

(1/2)
>>
Not that you begrudge him for it, later on you'd come to find he was mostly joking, but when you'd only just come to live with him it filled you with no end of anxiety. “Do the others feel the same way?”

She shrugs. “Yeah, for the most part. I know Profectus certainly does, though I can't speak for either Chryssa or Mortia. I haven't really asked them.” Her lips draw into a frown. “I don't really know how well I get along with Mortia. She seems nice enough, I guess, but exceptionally odd.”

“She's just getting used to living in her new surroundings. I can hardly blame her. Plus she was probably isolated from others at the best of times. I doubt she's ever truly had to consider how others might think or feel.” The middle of the swamp isn't exactly a good place to meet people. “Considering her background I think she's adjusting quite well, even if she does cling to some outdated notion of the Rhynian state.”

A change of subject is in order, before you get too off-topic. “Anyway, I think sparring might be worthwhile. I was going to meditate anyway, so meditation on forms would knock out two birds with one stone, so to speak. Same place as before, in the gardens?”

Your companion nods, rising from the couch. “I'll get dressed then, and we can meet downstairs in an hour or so. Maybe leave the nice robes in the cloak, for now.” She gives your right horn a tug as she collects the books you've loaned her, pulling your head to one side. “It will be interesting to see how I can use these to my advantage.”

Once you see her out, you shut the door and pull off your nice robes. It's a much more complicated procedure than it used to be, considering you have to punch it up over your shoulders and then carefully maneuver it around your horns to get it over your head. Underneath you're already wearing a pair of trousers and a tunic which will serve well enough as sparring clothes, so you just shove the black robes into your cloak and call it done.

That accomplished your thoughts turn to Profectus. You've had little opportunity to speak with your friend since returning from Marqash, and he's probably the one you most need to speak with. He's only just recovered from the spice after all, and he hasn't seemed himself lately.

Having reached a decision you leave your room behind, crossing the hall to Profectus' own. You knock, and after a short wait the door opens. Profectus has a piece of folded flatbread half jammed into his mouth, loaded up with egg and a little bit of sausage. An interesting dish, not a combination you can claim to have considered. Regardless he invites you in. Though you've already eaten you at least pour yourself a glass of wine and sit down across from him in his sitting room. Unlike you, he's loaded the fireplace with logs and has them blazing away. Why he felt the need to do so, you can't be certain.

“Been a while since we talked privately, Mik.” Profectus states matter-of-factly, though you don't get the impression you're imposing on him in any way. “What did you need?”

You sip your wine passively. Rather than the usual red, he's elected to drink a white wine. It's been previously chilled, which is proper. If one is going to drink wine chilled it ought to be white, since a red's essence is best expressed at room temperature. Pleasant, but you've never been a fan of white. “It's as you said, we haven't had a chance to talk much lately. I thought to rectify that. How have you been feeling since your encounter with Spice? I know I felt awful after my first time.”

He sighs, and you note for the first time just how prominent the veins of blue crawling through his sclera are. Were yours just as severe after you first tried the Spice? “I don't know, Mik. I've felt off. You know, I've been remembering things lately. From my previous life. Not exactly things I'd like to remember either, I did some shitty stuff. I could ignore it for a while but the dreams seem a lot more vivid since my exposure to the spice.”

Profectus' shoves another bite of his flatbread sandwich construction into his mouth, washing it down with half a glass of wine. “I keep having this recurring dream, from just after they'd implanted this thing into where my arm used to be. They just let me loose upon a village, told me to kill everyone and destroy everything that I could.”

(1/2)
>>
“The shitty part is that I did it, I didn't ask for any further explanation or refuse. They didn't have to drug me or otherwise manipulate me. I just slauightered them all. I think at the time I was a little more capable than I was when you found me, because there didn't seem to be any limit to the number of times I could use my arm. I torched the place, and the people in it. They weren't even your people, which I could understand considering the war. They were humans, or something like humans. A little darker, and dressed oddly, but human nonetheless. Weird eyes, they were golden. Might just be my faulty memory though.”

He shrugs, picking at a cluster of grapes and popping one into his mouth. “I don't know man, it just bothers me. Good news is, I'm up and walking about. I'm sorry by the way, for going all haywire there. I don't know why I attacked you of all people. You're probably the best friend I have. Especially now that Chrys has gotten all withdrawn. I've barely spoken a word to the woman at any point in the last few weeks.”

>killing him

nah brah, why would we do that? he is something compelelty unique in the world, the only person that we know of to die, have their soul leave them and then get shoved back in. who knows what crazy voodoo he experienced when it happened, or if he remembers anything form when he was floating outside his body. shit, he could have an understanding of the universe on a whole other level than what we would be able to find in the world. the POSSIBILITIES for scientific and magical research is too great

or, he really is just an abomination, and we might have set into the works an ancient prophecy that foretold the doom of the world, the void, and other associated layers of creation.

either way, he must live

I intended the "introduce the concept of the Avatar project" thing as to tell Prof the thing we've been working on, and haven't told the others about yet. It'll be sort of like putting him into our confidence and demonstrating that we trust him. Just to clarify on the latter part.
>>
>>157639
>>157635
It's a good way to finialy bring the idea into the quest. Also something that Profectus could try to work for. Considering he's almost GM Fire.
>>
>>157637
Because that's exactly what it is? We knew he had some traumatic memories, and we know his sanity is weak. We gotta repair his shard before we do other stuff to it.
>>
>>157639
I'll agree with you this time Rob.
>>157635
Do it Soma
>>
>>157637
It actually probably would help Profectus. Since what's eating at him is that he can't understand why he didn't protest. Why he just went with it. If he could relive the actions he'd understand what he was thinking at the time, and the Shaping Arts tends to separate you from reliving the actual emotions so you can just think about things logically while remaining aware of the emotions you felt.
>>
>>157651
We should teach him later then.
>>
>>157651
Save it for later though. It's still kinda fresh for him and he'd probably turn us down right now.

Settle him down and then propose it later.
>>
How long has it been since we started 'teaching' our companions magic?
We should celebrate their advances, have them share any interesting insights they've had, and we could try to answer any questions they had.
We could then see if we can't take our collective knowledge, which includes a GM in every element but fire, and see about turning Fulvia into a super fighting robot.
>>
One of our friends back home was training as a Metal vatis and still hasn't hit Master in it yet.

Chryssa, Darzi and Profectus still don't have the basics of vatisdom down. They can't channel vys fully to boost their actions. Unless Soma updated the pastebin.
>>
>>157664
it's not bait if we counteract it by being the smart fish and give him the ring
>>
>>157664
>Chryssa, Darzi and Profectus still don't have the basics of vatisdom down.
Actually? I thought we covered that with the basics.
We should include that as part of getting everyone to buff up for Elaudia.
>>
We should try and help Prof with his issues, using the shaping arts seems like it could help, and lending him the sanity ring could help, after that we could help him achieve his GM in fire, seeing as he is literally just a single meditation away.
>>
>>157656
Humans study their entire lives to become masters of an element, Samjans may spend up to a century becoming a true grandmaster.

Motherfucking Mikhael Abdul-Hakim shows up and two years later he's become a double grandmaster, become a double master, raised a dragon as his son, transformed into a Child of Surya, rediscovered the lost art of enchanting, created an entirely new type of magic that brought an Ancient to its knees, come face-to-face with a sleeping god, and is capable of ascending into a form stronger than an army.

We've got some DBZ levels of powercreep going on here.
>>
>>157672
Nah, looks like they're still apprentice/amateur tier. Not Trained Vatis like Mik and Mortia. We probably need like one meditation session for it with the teaching trait. Anon wanted to read instead, though.

Oh, and Zahak may also not have it, but I doubt he actually needs it.
>>
>>157683
>Each event is preceded by Prophecy. But without the hero, there is no Event.

>>
>>157683
>two years later
Well, we went from vatis to 2x GM in a couple of months, but it took us ~18 years to get to vatis level. Mik actually uses his fundamental magical understanding drilled into him by Karim in everything he does, and it's that foundation of knowledge that set him up to succeed. Mik's breakneck pace since getting banished is due to his recklessness. Mik is willing to risk life, limb and immortal soul for magical knowledge. It is for that reason that he has come so far.

This progress is best characterized by the line from our GM Metal meditation:
"What if you looked at this borderline apocalyptic turn of events not as promising your untimely demise, but as an opportunity to advance your understanding of the magical arts?"
>>
>>157683
It is exactly as this other anon said
>>157698
>Mik's breakneck pace since getting banished is due to his recklessness. Mik is willing to risk life, limb and immortal soul for magical knowledge. It is for that reason that he has come so far.
Most Samjan don't risk their lives to get GM. I mean they can live forever so why should they risk their lives to do it fast and risky when you can do it slow but surely?
>>
>>157698
>>157702
>Most Samjan don't risk their lives to get GM. I mean they can live forever so why should they risk their lives to do it fast and risky when you can do it slow but surely?

Soma has said as much in a previous thread. There is also the fact most Vatis have jobs and obligations they need to attend to so they can't meditate whenever they wanted.

doesn't fire have something to do with divination and distance viewing?
That 'prophet of Surya' probably just looked for the most promising young samjan that she could turn into her tool.
And really, all she has to do is offer danger and magical knowledge to manipulate Mik.
>>
>>157745
But is it really manipulating Mik? Mik will only do what she wants if it involves danger and magical knowledge, but if he knew about the danger and magical knowledge without being told he would do those things anyways regardless. So really that would just be Mik and the prophet's interests aligning.

No. We should take his memories and use them to strengthen ourself. Do the same for the rest of our party members.
Especially Mortia, take all she knows about Nature magic.
>>
That was a little more than you bargained for, but Profectus is your friend. It wouldn't be proper to just abandon him to his thoughts. Especially when they seem as dark as they currently are. “It's alright, Profectus. I don't blame you for what happened. Believe me, I know how intoxicating the power of the Spice can be. I've experienced it firsthand.”

You take a sip of wine, trying to think of something to say here which might help. You draw a blank. “I can't say that I know what you're going through. My own past actions don't particularly plague my conscience, though I'm sure there are those who would claim they should. All I can offer is a sympathetic ear. Know that I'm here if you ever need anything.”

Profectus offers a strained smile, his own discontent apparent. “I know Mik, but I wouldn't want to burden you unnecessarily. I know you leap constantly from one crisis to the next, I'm sure you'd rather spend your time relaxing than listening to me whine.”

“It's hardly whining, Profectus.” That mentality bothers you, it's a bad way to approach life. “Your welfare, and the party's welfare as a whole, is of paramount importance. As you said, we hop from one crisis to the next with little pause between. If we allow our own private insecurities to accumulate without addressing them, it could threaten all our safety. I mean it when I say I'd be happy to listen, if you wanted to talk through anything.”

He scratches at his neck, his discomfort written plainly on his face. “Sure, but what would talking about it really accomplish? It doesn't truly resolve the issue. My past is my past, and I can't change what I've done. All I can do is learn to accept it.”

You frown, leaning back into the padded chair and crossing your arms over your chest. “And you don't think learning to accept your past is a process helped by conversation? Learning is seldom a process carried out in solitude, though I suppose it can be with the proper resources.”

Would it really be proper to tell him about the Shaping Arts now? Perhaps not, but you can't think of much else to offer. “You know, I've been reading a book on a form of magic separate from the schools we're familiar with. The Shaping Arts. Contained in the book is a method by which one might relive their memories with exacting accuracy. I'm not suggesting it as a solution to the dreams which plague you, but it might offer some answers to whatever questions you have. I would be happy to teach it to you, if you'd like.”
(1/2)
>>
Profectus seems torn by indecision, at least until he turns his attention back to his breakfast. “Perhaps some other time, Mikhael. I don't know if I want to relive the memories which have lately been returning to me. They didn't put me to sleep when they cut off my arm, you know. Just strapped me down. There was a little Water magic employed to numb the pain but I still felt it. Reliving that would seem like divine punishment.”

You can't help but frown. That just seems cruel. “You don't feel pain, nor the emotions as strongly as you felt them at the time. I've found it helps me think through things logically, but my memories also aren't nearly so painful as yours. I'm certainly not going to force it on you, but I felt it proper to offer.”

“I understand, Mik.” His smile is a little more genuine this time. “I appreciate the offer, and I'm not turning it down necessarily. Just... not right now, not yet. It's still too fresh, even if it has been a thousand years.”

Time grows short, so you stand from your seat and clap him affectionately on the shoulder. “I'm going to head down to the garden. Darzi wishes to spar. You're welcome to join us. Perhaps watching me get tossed around the cobbles would serve to lighten your mood.”

He folds the flatbread a little tighter around its contents, rising to join you. “Sure, that sounds better than sitting here by myself. I've actually been sort of curious about the form you use, so this will be an enlightening experience I imagine.”

Nigga that's my routine. 4 sets of 8. I don't even know what my max is, for any of my lifts really. Been a few years since I last tested what my max lift was. It used to be a 225 bench and a 365 squat. Clean n' jerk was always my weakest lift, I think I could only manage 155, and that was a real struggle.

It's a Greek letter organization but it's not registered as a frat. And you can't shout veto but anyone can protest the election of an officer, and then the officers make all the decisions. I don't actually know if it's endorsed by the University.

True, but that limit on our magic was a major problem, and Mik can't function without showing off his magic.
>>
>>162810
Yeah there were at least a couple more bars in that district.
>>
>>162821
The limit was due to the shortage of ambient vys, but now that we have husk casting we could compensate by tearing off a small chunk and allowing it to decay into vys directly, then drawing in that. We'd end up operating at somewhat reduced maximum capacity for the duration of the trip if we did this frequently, but we could still fill up the tank if needed. The husk regenerates itself regardless of ambient vys levels.
>>
>>162821
We can meditate on reality now. Approaching one of Surya's Gaping Assholes instantly refills our reserves even if we don't enter it. The dangers of the Void are fairly diminished by now, so I'd say ambient vys is a fairly small factor by now.

So, what do ya'all think of the rising power levels the quest is headed into? Before even going into husk casting or ascension, Mik, Darzi, and Prof are probably going to hit Elder Dragon tier with the Wraith technique; Chryssa as a Earth GM with her mace can casually take out a fortified city gate.

We'll have to work on Fulvia and Mortia though. Time might be tight with the Stooge's deadline.
>>
>>173681
we're not even close to the varisthas power level without going super samjan, we're not immune to a regular arrow through the head, most of our companions can be taken out with a single paralysis spell... We're not really that powerful aside from being REALLY good at killing spirits and having way more gear than should be possible thanks to Ricky.
>>
>>173681
I think we need to get memory manipulation.
>>
>>173916
That's actually a really good point. Surprise attacks on any of our people and ourselves will have very high chances or wounding or killing us. We'll have to rely our Mortia or ourselves to keep constant vigil. In a straight up fight, we're well off, but so was the US Army in Vietnam. A twleportation array back to the Palace in the void would work whenever we need to retreat, but that'd leave us vulnerable when we come back. The Meseeks would suffice for scanning if we send them ahead but they'd draw a ton of attention and hostile entities/spirits might not engage them in order to draw us in.
>>
>>173916
>>174371
Looking at the pastebin, I really think it'd be beneficial to use some of the Spirit Ivory to create items that use the Conceal rune, either on our bodies, souls, or minds. We might also benefit from askin for the Cat to give us something that'd enhance all of our party's perception. Despite its obvious flaws, getting the teleportation array functioning for us or a quick way into and out of the Cat's realm would be useful for retreating out of danger or as shelter.
>>

I mean, I kinda see his point. Yes, our party members can improve their nature magic in order to perceive spirits and we could make them artifacts with the "Reveal" rune. But that'd take time that's running short and it'd be constant vys expenditures as we travel Elaudia. Having artifacts that can do it without vys expenditure or constantly would be nice.
>>
I just realize that we could probably sustain Ascended form way longer in the void near a gate.

>>176418
I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Gates refill Vys, not husk. Our soul seems to need time and rest to replenish that.

Refining vys via invert+revert might allow us to create some husk.

Sure, Mik would have to go to the gate in his physical form if we want to use artifacts there (I think), and using husk from outside sources is risky because it needs a roll against memory fuckery, and on top of that we don't actually know refined vys creates husk (though it is heavily implied by Soma's explanation of how "refine" actually works).

...But as far as experiments go, refining vys is definitely worth doing at some point just for its own sake. For example, we know a way to make vys physical in crystalline form, which is a useful material on its own, but what happens when you refine it? Do you end up with physical memories?

The bonus upside to this is we only have to enchant a container to mark its contents and then applies revert+invert to its mark. Then it can be used to refine anything and see what one ends up with when it goes in the box of refining. You can put coal in it and see if it turns into a diamond! You can put a soul in and see if it does anything! You can ejaculate in it, because of course you want to ejaculate in it! Sky's the limit.

>>176538
We already can create husk with the Soul rune.

We've been over this hundreds of times.

refining Vys does not create husk.
>>
>>176312
Mahana was the fucking tank or distraction or whatever you call it. Without him we would have been killed when we shot it the first time.
>>
>>176813
And without Mahana we wouldn't have needed to kill cthulhu. Hell according to Mahanna the defense after we shot Sarvacca was successful mainly because of the Meseeks.
>>
>>176671
When has that been proven anyway? We never even attempted it.
On the otherhand I think our husk casting is inefficient because of our technique of using it. Rather than hacking off and trying to casting with it as is I think we need to alter it somehow like with the iron halo technique.
>>
>>176671
What the fuck are you talking about? We never refined anything, let alone vys. Stop pulling misinformation out of your ass. I know you've a fetish for it, but please.
>>
Also we never tested out Varvar's method of meditation.

And I quote
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/46796196/#p46804464

The Soul rune creates Husk.
>>
>>178203
Where it say it can create husk? Create+Soul should do nothing from what we know.
>>
>>178203
Read the post he replied to. The Soul rune refers to the Shard. Dumbass.

You can't create divine essence unless you're a literal god. You want physical DE? Ask Mahana for some instead of trying to operate an artifact that will in all likelihood drain your vys until you pass out or die.
>>
>>178305
Nigger Create + Soul will create either Husk or Shard depending upon the intent of the Enchanter.

Enchantments do not work like spells where when u cast shit like Stop + Time it just knocks you out. It is fully possible to break the laws of physics and reality with enchanting.
>>
>>178327
And you're basing this on what? The voices in your head? I mean when a guy shows you the definition of something and than presents it as proof for something not even mentioned by that definition, people are going to think said guy is a bit touched in the head.
>>
>>178393
Look. You are wrong. Soma has confirmed this several times. Now i do not know if he did it outside of the IRC but he did confirm it. Feel free to spam his dumblr or wait for a thread to ask him. But that is what he has said about it.

Except Soma both in and out of quest said only gods could create DE.
>>

I never said that it would work.

The soul rune applies to either Husk or Shard depending upon the intent of the Enchanter.

Husk should be no problem to produce.
Shard may fail, we'll just have to try it.

Really? More baseless assumptions?

Why don't you go back to your circlejerk room and leave the in-thread discussion to the people with three-digit IQs?

Just ask Soma.
>>
So, who wants to place bets on Soma returning? I'm giving him seven to one odds currently of making a return today.
>>
>>181785
Were those 7:1 odds that I will return or won't?

Regardless, just updated on twitter and tumblr, figure I'll do so here as well. I've got a haircut and various other things which demand my attention today, and I didn't wake up into a couple minutes ago. I won't be able to run today but when I get home this evening I'll finish up the OP and hopefully finish up the omake I've been working on intermittently for the last few months.

The soul rune is context sensitive but in most instances Create+Soul would create husk rather than creating a shell or a divine shard. Divine shards can't be created at all in fact, nor can they be truly destroyed. Only subsumed. Unattached husk also does weird shit to the fabric of reality and to surrounding vys, but I'll leave y'all to discover specifics.

Destroy+Soul would strip away the husk and destroy the shell of someone's soul, meaning their shard would get ripped from their mortal form and either recycled by Pani or eaten by Surya. Although Mik might be able to snatch it if he worked quickly.

Leech+Soul would slowly drain someone's husk and either transfer it to someone standing upon a 'Mark' rune or just leak it out into the surroundings.

Would learning from Mahana about how spirits do magic lead to anything interesting?
Like we know they use husk but what kind of magic do they perform with it?
>>
>>181861
So, what's this Avatar thing we're proposing to Prof and Darzi exactly? Us poor thread anon folk aren't privy to the schemes of you and your IRCabal butt buddies.
>>
>>182145
Do you suppose Mahana would give us anything to give us the ability to enchant on the fly? That seems really useful.
>>
>>182224
We are halfway there we just need a better understanding of magic like how to make illusions visible in a meditation and we'd be set.
>>
>>182258
Making the runes seems easy enough. The finalization process always takes a meditation though. We'll need something to allow us to finalize on the fly.
>>
>>182287
>What is battle meditation?
>>
>>182146
Inversion Rings are the basis of the whole idea. They're basically [Invert + Revert] affecting the [Mind] rune. [Invert + Revert] can be summed up as "sophistication" or something similar, so when it affects the Mind it grants an "expanded mind" which mechanically is represented as a bunch of bonuses, the largest of which being a hefty Nature magic bonus.

Now the second and last enchantment we need is the Suryan Firebrands which is basically [Create] + [Invert + Revert] affecting the [Fire] rune. So sophisticated fire comes out as lightning.

Soma has confirmed that it is only a Master Fire level technique to be able to harness created lightning as long as you have the right bonuses. The Inversion rings fill the requirements and as such, give anyone wearing these a steady and infinite stream of powerful Fire magic in the form of lightning.

Lastly is tying it all together with battle meditation. Battle meditation allows you to fight in the style of a martial art while in meditation at the same time AND since many martial arts include magical practices in their forms (For Marsla Ve it's Fire) casting Fire magic comes fluidly in the trance. This allows us to fully utilize the massive amounts of Vys we're going to have pouring through us without being basically defenseless while in a meditative trace. But it requires a very hefty Nature magic requirement, one fulfilled by the Inversion rings. Lastly we need a required level of in the martial art we're going to be using during the trance, so for now Marsla ve.

Here's another if my explanation was terrible
http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/45547069/#q45547636
And here's a log of soma's speculation on it
http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/45547069/#q45548385

And while not in that log Soma commented how Darzi in that state (assuming she got Master in Fire) as she is now could solo Mama Dragon.

>>182287
>>182343
Finalization on the fly is not currently possible for Mik. It's different from casting normal magic and usually takes for longer than regular magic. Not saying it isn't possible just much more difficult that normal casting on the fly.

Also Battle meditation only supports the magic that school of the Martial Art you're using supports. So unless we create our own or find a way to wing it enchantment battle meditation isn't currently possible.
>>
>>182361
And here's one more source from Soma about the lightning manipulation.

Soma did say to try practicing enchanting more if we wanted to do combat enchanting.
