As the suns sets on the western ocean, the magical Azure Chariot swoops down from its long flight and settles down on the crimson sand of the tropical island you elected as landing site.

And none a minute to soon: the sun is slowly starting to set on the horizon, signalling the end of the spell. You didn't have the time to scout the island from above, and consider Mikahil's words carefully as you glance around.

Past a fairly wide strip of reddish sand where land and sea meet, the island is overgrown with savage, exotic vegetation. Wyld mutations are fairly obvious, with monstrously large ferns sporting oddly-shaped leaves, some looking distinctly like elongated human hands. Thick, dark trees with no clear resemblance to any plant you've ever seen, and often covered in gently writhing vines, whose small, round fruits bear a suspicious resemblance to eyeballs.

You turn around, to the ocean, and even staring west, where the sky is still lit by twilight, you realize that you can't quite tell where the line of the horizon divides the sky from the sea. A sign of the western Wyld being close and dominant, you remember Talon teaching you once.

In the South, you're used to the idea of Wyld being strange and multi-faceted: a suspicious oasis, a colorful mirage, the shadow of a flame, until the sand and the world itself catch fire.

In the West, the Wyld is just the sea invading the sky.

"This is pretty freaky." Karas offers his opinion. He has Giant Boxcutter, his Grand Daiklave, already in hand, and eyes both the overgrown island and the watery horizon with equal suspicion.

"Oh, don't worry too much." Valeriana shrugs. She clearly knows more about the dynamics of the Wyld than anyone here, so her words put you a bit more at ease. "This far we're just in the Bordermarches. We're not in any danger of mutation of anything. Just... don't go out swimming too far from the shore."

"I don't think I feel like swimming period." He grumbles. "We're only stopping here until sunrise, we're not on vacation."

Valeriana smiles and shrugs in response.

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. Queen of Gem, now ruling the western island of Tianna. You

have gathered a vast amount of allies and friends, and defeated every threat to Tianna up to now, though not without

difficulty.
You recently discovered that Tianna is actually an artificial island, built around a First Age Titan: an almighty

flying fortress. Your forces have crushed the Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, a Deathlord who tried to usurp its

power for himself.
And now, on the day of your wedding, the Unconquered Sun Himself appeared to you and crowned you Princess of

Creation, asking you to be an example for others in these dark times.
After securing the alliance of the nearby realm of Neck (or Okeanos, as they prefer to be called), you received news

from your remote homeland of Gem: Rankar, the man who usurped your throne, holds your father and sister prisoner, and

is about to marry her to his own oun in an attempt to solidify and legitimize his power over the city.

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY

question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 2d10 when posting. The first X rolls are considered,

where X is equal to attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score

x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which

cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

You think about your situation for a second.

"Say, Tia?"

"Yes?" She asks back, clearly excited.

"Can you scout around a bit to see what's all around us?" You ask.

Her chipper smile disappears. "O...oh... th-that's what you wanted? Alright." She replies, taking a brief run-up before sprouting wings and flying away in the quickly darkening sky.

Meanwhile, Valeriana has spread out a soft carpet on the sand and is lying down, clearly tired, and Karas is eyeing the closest part of the forested interior rather suspiciously.

Once she's gone, Mikahil grins at you. "I wonder what she was expecting."

"You and I both know perfectly well what she was expecting." Is your amused response.

He puts up a slightly more serious face. "Does she ever bother you? I mean, you're a perfect match for each other, but-"

"What do you mean with that?" You pout, pretending to be offended.

"You and I both know perfectly well what I mean with that." He parrots you, sitting by your baggage, taking out a tightly wrapped sandwich from a box and taking a bite out of it.

>Drop the subject.
>It doesn't bother me.

"I'm usually the one bothering her." You reply with a wink. "Maybe I'm just spoiling her, thinking about it."

He nods thoughtfully.

"What about you and Fivetails, then?" You continue, shifting the subject.

"What ABOUT us?" he lifts en eyebrow.

"What's your relationship, exactly?"

He shrugs, finishing the sandwich. "We're together."

"Yeah, I mean, that much is obvious, but..."

"I don't really get this "First Age Mate" stuff. I think Fivetails doesn't either. We just work well together. Well, literally, we started out by just working together." He rolls his eyes. "Feels like so long ago."

"Then it became personal?" You suggest.

Mikahil nods.

"I guess that's why you're not worried when she takes off to do stuff on her own, like now."

"She can be a bit stressed and panicky some times, and she gets worked up easily. I'm sure if you asked her, she'd say that I'm too gloomy and reserved or something like that."

"How do you work so well together, then?" You ask.

He smiles. "Love and patience."

"Maka." Karas calls for you, breaking the flow of the conversation. There's a note of worry in his tone of voice. He gestures for you to reach him by the end of the beach, where the massive fens start.

He's peering into the darkness. The sun has set, leaving the sky dyed in twilight. It's a clear night, and a waning half-moon is shining in the eastern sky.

"What's up?" You whisper to him as you reach his side.

"We've got company." He replies. "About thirty. Good at moving in the underbush and staying hidden, so I'd say Wyld barbarians considering where we are. If it's a hunting party, then they're out to hunt something really huge."

You stare into the forest. You catch a few glimpses of light movement in the distance, something that can't be explained by wind or animals. A stone-tipped spear peeks from behind a remote tree, just barely in sight.

"How long have they been here?" You wonder.

"Probably just arrived." His daiklave is down, tip embedded in the sand, resting, but his hands are firmly on the handle nonetheless. "What now?"

You glance back at your "camp", just a small pile of your baggage and supplies, Mikahil sitting on a box and staring attentively in your direction, Valeriana lying down but not asleep, clearly aware of the tension in the air.

>Let's not do anything.

"Let's make sure they know we see them, so they won't try anything stupid." You whisper to Karas.

He nods and steps forward, leaving the daiklave behind.

The forest seems to fall silent all of sudden.

He makes a simple gesture towards the hiding barbarians, pointing at his own eyes, then at them.

Then, he snatches a thrown javelin out of the air.

"Well that went poorly." He comments, unfazed, as several more javelins and arrows fly out of the forest and straight at you. You react quickly, sidestepping one and slapping a second off course and into the sand with the back of your hand, one split-second after summoning, with a surge of Essence, your Smashfist gaunlets onto your forearms.

Behind you, you hear Valeriana cursing profusely in some weird Seatongue dialect as she jumps back on her feet and rolls behind your baggage.

"Alright. Enough." You say, in a loud enough tone of voice to, you're fairly sure, reach your attackers, as you unfurl the full light of your Anima.

The golden light envelops your entire group and lights up the beach and the sea, as the giant, glorious coat of arms that is your iconic display explodes behind you. The scene is lit as bright as day.

You were fairly sure this would be enough to stop them. To scare them, persuade them that they're messing with someone really dangerous.

Apparently, you were wrong, or you underestimated their aggressiveness. They redouble their efforts, filling the air around you with well-aimed projectiles. Maybe they weren't specifically shooting to kill before, just throwing in your general direction. They're definitely aiming now.

Karas rolls back and grabs his daiklave, using it to swat aside a hail of arrows. You slap back a few arrows yourself,

"Sis!"

"I know." You noticed too. The tips of the arrows and spears are clearly covered by a gummy, sap-like substance. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they're poisoned, though you don't know with what exactly.

You stomp your foot down, and roar at the forest. "Alright, yo-"

You're suddenly interrupted, air knocked out of your lungs, as an arrow strikes you square in the chest, nearly throwing you back. Immediately, a lance of searing pain and a burning sensation course through your body.

"Maka!" Karas leaps in front of you, trying to shield you from the projectiles, but you put a hand on his shoulder and gently move him aside.

"I'm fine." You grumble, more angry than anything, "NOW LISTEN UP, YOU PRIMITIVE SCREWHEADS!" You then scream at the forest.

[AEGIS OF DIVINE JUSTICE]

You walk straight into the hail of arrows, the projectiles harmlessly breaking and bouncing off against you now. A javelin smashes straight against your forehead, snapping in two. After that, the firing stops, and a dismayed silence settles on the shoreline.

[ARMY-CRUSHING GLORY]

"I have no idea if you understand my language, and I don't care. I'm Maka, Chosen of the Unconquered Sun, Princess of the Earth, Daughter of Hope. And if you have a shred of a self-preservation instinct you will give up right now and crawl back to whatever hole in the ground you came out of, because you're in WAY over your head."

[s+z=1 8 4 5 1 6 7 4 6 7 4 10 = 5 successes]

The leaves and bushes rustle with the noise of tribesmen fleeing the scene.

As soon as the situation quiets down, Valeriana leaps out of behind her arrow-ridden cover. "Are you all right?" She rushes up to you, concerned.

"She's okay." Karas relaxes a bit. "Fortunately the arrow hit her in the boobs."

You punch him in the arm.

"Let me pull that out, you should be alright." She replies, deadpan to Karas and your banter. "No big blood vessels or anything."

"What about the poison?" You wince as she plucks the arrow out of your wound. Probably lethal if you weren't Exalted, poison or no poison, you consider.

"I can't do anything about that." She replies. "But I'd say it's improbable it'll have any effect. You're the toughest out of all of us, after all."

The wound does feel sensible and it burns and itches, but nothing terrifying, at least.

You glance around. "Wait, where's Mikahil?"

"Here." The Eclipse replies, dragging a large, muscular man, greyish-greenish-skinned and wearing leaves and animal pelts, out of the forest. He's covered in scars and tattoos.

He's clearly human, or at least he looks mostly human, apart for the oddly colored skin, overly thick neck and clearly sharpened teeth. He's knocked out cold.

"Sneaked around them, got him as they were falling back. He was the last one in the line." He explains.

"How did you knock him out?" Valeriana whistles.

"Coconut to the back of the head." He smiles.

>Wake him up.

You kneel down by the barbarian, take off your gauntlets, and slap him loudly in the face one, two, three times.

He jolts awake, scrambles for cover, and finds himself pinned down by Karas's stupidly huge sword.

Hesitatingly, he says something utterly incomprehensible to your ears.

You turn to glance at Mikahil, who is listening carefully. "That means anything to you?"

He nods, kneels down as well, and replies to the barbarian in a similar language.

The two have a brief exchange.

"What is he saying?"

He stands back up. "That we're in the territory of someone calling himself the Lord of the Endless Song, we tread upon his holy land, his tribe enjoys his protection, doom will befall us, yadda yadda."

"That name mean anything to you?" Karas wonders.

"Could be anyone." He shrugs. "I think he's talking about some sort of fae, though."

You roll your eyes. "Tell him that he's free to go, but he has a message to bring to the others of his tribe. We'll be gone in the morning. We're not here to stay. But if they annoy us again, there'll be hell to pay."

Mikahil does so, and then Karas reluctantly lets him go.

"I wonder if it's a good idea." He mumbles. "I'm afraid that these are the sort of people who only understand violence."

"Well, look at it this way: We're what, four Exalted, five with Tia. What are they going to do?" You shrug.

"I hope you're right." Mikahil nods.

After about ten minutes, Tia returns, swoops down on the beach, and lands, her grey-black wings disappearing back into her body once she's back on the ground. She has an arrow in hand.

"There's barbarians not too far from here." She explains.

"We noticed." Mikahil glances at all the arrows littered all around where you are.

That's when Tia notices your wound.

You see her eyes narrow.

"I'm fine, really." You immediately try to rein her in. "It's already healing. So, where's their village?"

"I'm going to burn it down." She replies, stepping away from you and turning around.

"Oh, come ON, wait." You grab her by the edge of her collar.

She stops, clearly displeased by you standing in her way between her and a giant pile of future corpses. "...Why are you defending them?"

"We're just passing by. No reason to get involved." You explain Tia.

"But it's been a while since I genocided something." She complains.

"Tia." You repeat, in a scolding tone.

She rolls her eyes, groaning, and sits down on the sand.

"Good girl." You praise her. "Now, let's rest a bit, make sure no one gets their jump on us, and wait for morning."

Valeriana is way ahead of you, already fast asleep. Mikahil and Karas quickly follow her example, leaving you and Tia to take care of guard duty evidently.

They might also be doing this to leave you and Tia your alone time, knowing them.

"Well, Tia?"

"Yes?" She asks back, clearly annoyed.

"You know, my wound is hurting pretty badly." You wink. "I'm sure it's the poison."

She stares at you, confused.

"If only someone could make me feel better~" You suggest.

She gets the hint.

Hours pass by, uneventful save for Tia's spoiled antics. You have to rein her in so you don't wake up the others, actually.

Until, in the dead of the night, a strange noise distracts you both, coming from the sea. Frothing waves and the sea breaking up, despite a calm and windless night.

Dark tentacles emerge from the deep, writhing against the sky. Under them, you see dark shapes surfacing, wyld-mutated, hateful stares fixed on you.

"Oh great, what is it now?" Groans Tia, clearly very annoyed with the interruption. "You guys want to have a go?" She threatens them.

That's when another figure, this one (mostly) humanoid, emerges from the waves next to them.

"The only place you should be 'going' is away." It (she?) says, in a melodious, singalong voice. She rises in the sky, suspended in mid-air by some strange force, without any real need of flapping her wings apparently.

"I'm sorry, lady, but we're in the middle of something right here." Tia replies, not sounding amused. "If you want to join just say so, otherwise either wait for your turn or get lost."

"I'm the Amber Herald, and speak for the Lord of the Endless Song and the Court of the Fanged Spears." She continues, apparently unconcerned by Tia's commentary. "You get only one warning, Exalted. Leave this island immediately, or face the Fanged Spear's wrath."

You stand back up and address the faerie. And, just to be on the safe side, you fill your body with stabilizing Essence in case someone tries some funny Shaping business.

[INTEGRITY-PROTECTING PRANA]

"Look, let's be reasonable, alright?"

"I'm listening."

"We're only here on our way to somewhere else. We'll leave in the morning, alright? We don't mean to intrude in your territory." Good, she seems to be actually listening to you.

She lowers her altitude until she touches down on the surface of the water, or rather, on the back of one of the strange beasts that accompanied her.

"That is insufficient." Of course.

"But dawn is in, what, like four hours? Can't you wait?"

"You're already in violation of our territory." She explains. "You should have left earlier."

"How early?"

"Never."

"That's really early."

"I know."

Sigh. "We don't have the means to leave your territory before dawn. How do you even expect us to leave it?"

"For example, you could kill yourselves." she explains nonchalantly. It doesn't even sound like sarcasm, she sounds like a genuine suggestion.

"See now." You sit back down and make yourself visibly comfortable. By now, you sense that Mikahil, Valeriana and Karas are also awake, and just pretending to sleep. "What you have here is five Exalted, in case it wasn't that obvious. Four Solars, one Lunar."

Tia nods threateningly.

"Now, like I said: we'll leave in the morning. That's it. You can either be patient and wait until sunrise, or start a fight now. I have no idea how strong you are, but I can assure you that we've got some pretty heavy hitters here."

You take on a friendlier tone.

"Are you really sure you want to risk it?" You ask. "Start a fight against FIVE Exalted? Because you can't wait until morning? We're not even doing anything here."

The fae narrows her eyes. You can FEEL the gears in her head turning, trying to make sense of what you just said in terms of their alien logic. "So what you're saying is that... you're asking for the Fanged Spear's hospitality?"

"I'm..." You think about it. "...Yeah, sure, technically that's what I'm doing. Just until morning."

Tia nods again.

"Nonetheless, you are not welcome here." The fae proclaims. "Your hospitality will not come cheap."

"Don't trust her." She whispers in your ear.

"I'm not." You whisper back. But you realize she doesn't seem particularly okay with your idea.

"I'm a noble of the Raksha." Amber replies, dismissive, after pondering your words. "I own many slaves, human and goblin and raksha alike. In my Wyld freehold, I have access to pleasures of the body, the mind and the soul that your calcified brain can scarcely comprehend. What can you, a mere creation-bound lump of flesh, possibly offer to me?"

"Come here, let me show you." You challenge her, extending a hand in her direction.

Looking rather unconvinced, not to mention bored, she starts walking towards the beach, the tentacled beasts creating a bridge for her to walk on up to the very shore. "If you say so." She replies. "I have yet to see anything truly worth my time in Creation."

Tia is grinning. "Let me guess. This is the first time you meet an Exalted?"

"I am rather uninterested and unimpressed with kind." She replies, setting foot (or, well, claw) ashore.

"I believe we can change your mind." You grin, delicately putting an arm around her slender waist, brushing her feather with the other.

As morning is about to break, Amber Herald stares up in the sky. She's lying face up in a crater in the sand.

She has said very few words for the last four hours, most of them rather repetitive, sometimes incomprehensible. Now, she's fallen silent. Maybe lost in thought, or in the meanders of her own alien mind.

"I... I can't..." Is what she's mumbling right now, mostly.

"...Do you think we broke her too hard?" Tia asks, not without a deep note of smugness, as she's pulling back inside her body all the extra body parts she put to good use in the last four hours to assist you.

"Maybe." You comment, after getting dressed. You peek over the top of the crater. "You alright, feathers?"

"I can't... I didn't..." Still staring at the sky in a state of shock.

"What, you want more?" You tease her.

"Y- N- Ye- No- I-" She stammers, weakly.

"Make up your mind."

She closes her eyes. "...Yes."

"Well, too bad." You glance eastwards. "Sun's rising. We need to leave."

She suddenly jolts up, looking shocked.

"Well, we DID tell you, remember? Did you think we were lying?"

"...I forgot." She seems on the verge of crying. "I forgot everything."

You shrug nonchalantly. "Well, look, we really heave to leave. It's been great, you weren't half bad yourself, we've had fun, but this is goodbye I guess. Be well."

"N- NO!" She scampers over the top of the crater and crawls up to you, grabbing your knees. "Take me with you! Please!"

"Um." You smile. Why do you always have this effect on Fae? "We can't, sorry. Ride's only for five."

She breaks down crying.

"Uh-"

"Great job, Maka, you bully. You made her cry." Tia laughs.

Also, distance doesn't exist when traveling through the Wyld. She just needs to quest through the wyld ways to reach Silk's little home pocket.

Technically, if we were so inclined, we could set out from Silk's Wyld to emerge from the Wyld anywhere else in Creation too. It's a spectacular fast travel system for people with the right protections.

"Anyway, you fly up there, to a city called Pearl, on the western shore. Can't miss it. Say that I'm sending you, and ask about another Fae named Silk that lives there." You explain. "I'll be back there in a week or so."

"B-but... I can't survive one week without you." She begs.

"You survived without me up to now, right?" You brush her feathers around her neck.

"I... I did? I guess? I have no idea how."

Tia giggles, immensely amused.

"If you want to do this, though, you'll have to swear an oath to serve me, and to not hurt any mortal. To prove your good faith, you'll hand over your Sword. I'll return it when and if I can trust you"

You're surprised at how easily she accepts. It was a bit harder to get Silk to trust you, back when you first met her.

Maybe you just got THAT good.

From out of her chest, she pulls a slender, feather-shaped knife made from something that looks both like metal and amber, wrapped in a red cloth. As soon as she drops it into your hands, it disappears, leaving behind just a tingling sensation.

"This I do swear." Amber bows to you. "By the Ring, and the Cup, and the Sword, and the Staff, to bind in my Heart 'till all else is unbound."

"Are you quite done?" Valeriana's voice suddenly shakes you from your conversation. She's summoned the Azure Chariot already, and gotten all the baggage on board, just waiting for you.

"I've got to go." You give Amber a last kiss before departing. As you take off and fly away, you can see her fall to her knees in the sandy shore, broken.

"That went well." Tia declares.

"So." Mikahil coughs. "Is that your standard modus operandi?"

"Wait, did you see and hear everything?" You wonder.

Valeriana turns to glare at you. She has bags under her eyes.

"...Did I keep you awake?"

"Yes, you did, you goddamn sex maniac." She growls.

"...sorry." You mumble.

"This is why I sound-proofed your bedroom in Golden Reach, by the way."

Karas is silently headbutting the edge of the chariot. "How the heck am I going to explain to dad what her firstborn daughter has become."

"What?" You shrug. "We got through the night without any trouble, and we got a new Fae as part of the deal."

"No complaints from me, I'm genuinely impressed by your technique." Mikahil comments with a smile. "In every sense."

Tia looks as proud as if Mikahil had praised her instead.

Once you're at cruising altitude, Mikahil takes his map out once more.

Speaking of which, we should talk to Val when we get a chance about constructing a Wyld Ship to exploit wyld zones for fast travel at some point.

Maybe even design a new sorcerous spell that lets you actually teleport from wyld zone to wyld zone, like you're just fast-forwarding straight through the story-journey instead of mucking about with it.

Or a spell/charm that lets you turn a journey of any length through the Wyld into a single-scene travel montage instead of actually going waypoint to waypoint.

"Mhhh." You scratch your chin. "I must admit I don't know a lot on the south-west beyond An-Teng."

"Well, it's the major civilized country. There isn't much more to know, honestly." he replies.

"Isn't An-Teng a Realm satrapy?" Valeriana asks, alarmed.

"Yeah." The Eclipse nods. "And not one in name and little more, like Wavecrest or the Neck. An-Teng is a major holding, very firmly held, extremely loyal and submissive, and full of Realm troops and Dragon-Blooded. On the other hand, it's also a very peaceful and hospitable place. If we can pass ourselves for normal mortals convincingly, it might be a good stop."

"Kinda hard to not draw this kind of attention with a flying chariot, though." Karas grumbles. "Unless Val can pass herself as a Dragon-Blooded again."

"I'm afraid I don't have the acting chops to make it convincing in front of someone who knows his Exalted." She replies.

"Karas still has something on his mind. "Wasn't An-Teng a place where they worship the Unconquered Sun and Luna fairly openly, though? Or so I heard."

"Not quite Sol and Luna." Mikahil points out. "The Golden lord and the Pale Mistress. They're local gods, but very powerful ones, and I believe they have a direct connection to Sol and Luna. Centuries of Shogunate and Realm rule and Immaculate preaching have not even scratched their cult. Incidentally, I know some people in An-Teng. Don't know how much I'd trust them against the Realm, but still, better than nothing. If there's a place in Creation where the common people might be friendly and sympathetic to Solar Exalted, it's probably An-Teng, despite the Immaculates all over the place."

"What's with these other locations? I mean, Wailing Fen doesn't sound promising." You ask.

"The Fount of Mourning and Nightfall Island look pretty shadowlandy."

"Giant statue?"

"A human head. Well, for a given definition of human. Enormous. Appeared one day out of thin air, allegedly." He taps the map. "As for Nightfall Island, it's an university."

Valeriana perks up.

"What do they teach there?" You ask, suspicious.

"Necromancy."

Valeriana perks down.

"I guess that makes sense." You have to admit. "And the Crescent?"

"Oh, I know this." Tia surprises you.

"You do?" Mikahil is as surprised as you are. "Because all I know is that it's a thick jungle with some barbarians, some villages, nothing of note."

"It's got something of note." She nods. "It's got Ten Stripes."

"A Lunar, I presume?"

"Never met him." She nods. "But I heard about him. He's strong, rules over that land and keeps it safe, and is very respected Shahan-Ya."

You blink. "Which means?"

"Respected one."

"...In what language?" Mikahil can't seem to recognize it.

"One we Lunars made up." She shrugs nonchalantly, and Mikahil gives up.

"I think we can try An-Teng." You point on the map. "Besides, I've always wanted to visit it."

"Let's just hope that we don't get in trouble with the Realm there." Your brother continues. "Let's not draw attention. Hide all artifacts, anything suspicious."

"Can you hide your Daiklave Elsewhere?" You wonder.

"Yes." He nods. what worries me is the chariot. How are we going to land and take off without drawing suspicion?"

"By doing it somewhere inconspicuous." You shrug. Easier said than done..."

"An-Teng is fairly sparse." Mikahil informs you. "Which means no big cities. A lot of people live in small communities or in the countryside. This can make it a bit hard to find a really deserted place, but if we come in low and fast we might get lucky and not draw much attention. Usual cover story of the wandering priestess?"

"I'm curious about this Golden Lord, yes, so it's not even a lie." You smile.

"Where should we go, exactly? An-Teng is split into three princedoms, and there's also a few splinter states."

"You know the place better than I do, what's your idea?"

"Well, the High Lands are the mountainous area. It's mining and tea-planting land. It's the most inland area, too, and the one with the least interference from the Realm. Plus, the Pinnacle of Mercy is where the Golden Lord is. The Middle Lands is all forest and rivers and silk farming. There's a city there, Sapphire, that's built on the ruins of a First Age city, full of First Age stuff. A place of learning, all schools and academies. And the Shore Lands are where all the trade and shipping happens. It's rich and crowded and full of Realm troops, and unfortunately most of my contacts are there."

You nod. "And the splinter states?"

"That's a mouthful. And ominous." Karas comments.

"Not at all. It's a very peaceful place. It's inhabited by... I guess they're technically beastmen? though they're a lot more human than most. They just want to live on their own and mind their own business. The Domain of the Silver-Crowned is a nastier place. They're paranoid about "Anathema" invading them or spying on them, and have put up sort of an amateurish police-state. I'm pretty sure that no "Anathema" cares about them or is even in the area, but they still execute a lot of people because horoscopes or vague omens say that they will betray the country to the Anathema, or because they cannot prove that they are not spies of the Anathema, or whatever."

"Mhhh." You look at the map. "Aren't the High Lands a bit out of the circle, though?"

"Remember that the circle is a bit smaller than where we can actually reach." Valeriana points out.

"You think we can make it there?"

"I don't know, honestly. I hope. There's a problem, though. To not draw any attention on the way there, we'd have to fly high, and then come down and land where we need, but if we don't quite make it there, sunset could catch us in mid-air."

"Alternatively, we could fly low and draw attention, but be safer?" Karas suggests.

"Possibly, but it'd be a lot of attention."

"If the spell ends in mid-air, I can just carry you down." Tia shrugs, seemingly unconcerned.

"Can you carry all of us? Plus all the baggage?" Valeriana wonders.

"No problem at all." Tia seems sure enough of herself.

"So... High Lands?" Mikahil asks. "Where are we aiming for? The countryside, maybe somewhere where we can hide or ask for shelter in the farmlands? Then there's Jade Plum Citadel, the capital. Some 60,000 people, largest city of the area. The High Prince Josei the Genius rules from there. Otherwise, there's Thousand Dragons Lake, the nexus of all the local river commerce, or we can try and make it to the Pinnacle of Mercy, deep in the mountains, where the Golden Lord resides."

While you're thinking, Mikahil realizes something. "Oh, and keep your hair covered while we're there. The locals think white or silver hair is a bad omen."

"Well, just change it." Tia shrugs.

"It's not-" No, you don't even try. You try and cover it better with the veil of your dress.

Over the course of thout flight, Val takes you to a very, very high altitude, above all the few clouds your can see. The wind is a savage, biting, howling cold up here.

Far below, you see scattered islands, a golden shore, and, as the sun begins to set, beautiful green and yellow valleys, farmlands, canals and rivers, small cities scattered all over a vast area of fertile flatlands, gentle hills, then sharp grass-covered mountains, in a land hemmed between wings of thick, emerald forests.

"Um, Val." You worry a bit. The sun is setting behind you.

"Shut up." She grumbles, completely focused on steering the horses that pull the chariot. You can feel the craft speeding up, even faster than before. You weren't sure it was possible.

"...How are we going even faster?" Karas wonders, worried. "I thought we couldn't go any faster."

"We can't." She replies, dryly.

A loud cracking noise comes from somewhere below you, similar but not quite identical to the sound of wood beginning to splinter under pressure.

"Oh."

The horses are more thunderbolt than cloud now, rending a path through the sky. You had no idea things other than arrows could travel so fast.

You see, far ahead of you, a small path snaking up a forested mountain. Some houses, and villages, lie along the path, but for the last half of the way up, the road lies bare.

Not quite at the very top of the mountain, but about nine tenths of the way up, a golden-roofed palace of splendid beauty catches your eye, the setting sun bouncing on its polished tiles and glinting in your eye.

The sun is about to set, and you're still travelling at what feels like, and might well be, three hundred miles per hour. You look down, and see a free-fall of- you have no idea. A lot.

You glance nervously at Tia, who seems perfectly calm.

"Alright, hang on." Val sighs, letting go of the reins.

"Hang on- Hang on to WHAT?"

In response, she leaps in Tia's arms, deserting the driver's post.

Then, the sun sets and the chariot disappears under your ass, leaving you and everyone else in free-fall.

Tia seems to know perfectly well what to do: She puts an arm around your waist, another around Karas', as Valeriana climbs on her back. Enormous grey wings sprout just left and right of where she stands, and the Lunar's feet morph into massive talons that grab onto your baggage (which is all tied together). Mikahil hangs on to the frankly quite ridiculous ensemble by grabbing your hand.

"I feel a bit silly." Is Tia's sole comment, seemingly unfazed, not even tired by the massive effort she must be putting. She doesn't even limit herself to a controlled fall: she can clearly fly under her own power, albeit far slower than the chariot, and circles above the temple a couple of times looking for the right place where to land, finally finding it in a small area where some tree-cutting by the monks and priests of the temple gave you some flat, clear space.

(cont.)
>>
There, she drops you off, as well as the baggage, and rolls do the ground, morphing back to a fully human form.

"Woah." You stretch briefly, finally happy to have solid ground under your feet once more. "That was hectic. You alright, Val?"

She groans. "I'm ok." You see a thumbs-up popping up from behind a tree stump. "Bit tired."

"Amazing." Mikahil claps. "I didn't think we could make it this far."

You all give your pilot a brief round of applause.

"Alright, what now?"

"I realize you're hyped about meeting with the Golden Lord, but be mindful of your etiquette." Mikahil tries to rein you in a bit. "An-Teng is a very traditionalist land, very concerned with matters of politeness, propriety and correct bearing and action, and the Golden lord is its supreme god of justice."

"Right." You straighten yourself. "What else can you tell me?"

"Uh, I'm not one hundred percent sure. I've never been there."

"...Great. Well, let's hope we make a good impression."

"Ask the god for a bed." Val mumbles.

Before doing anything, you give a look around, trying to understand the layout of the place. You barely had time to see it from above.

It seems it's a small village, essentially, with houses and secondary buildings, but all centered around the imposing, gold-roofed temple, effectively forming a small, self-sufficient community. There are small fields and grazing grounds, and the road leading all the way down, to civilization, actually sees some traffic.

The area in front of the temple is surprisingly crowded, with three dozens or so of individuals, all of whom seem to have arrived after a long journey, from all walks of life, from well-off city folks to farmers to mountain men and women to anything in between. They are reined in by monks clad in yellow robes, who, you notice, are keeping them outside the temple, letting in only a few at a time, and letting out similarly small groups.

That's about when one of the monks spots you. "Hey, please stand in line."

You point at yourself, puzzled.

"Yes, you." The man, clearly looking tired and annoyed from a long day of having to deal with unruly people, seems to really have to force himself to stay polite. "Esteemed guest." His tone is almost ironic. "Please don't wander around the temple grounds."

"Oh, I just... Let..." You point at the clearing from where you come.

"You did NOT do your business in the forest, did you?" He groans. "We provided latrines and-"

"No! It's not that! Um, my friend was feeling really tired and so she tried to walk around a bit to keep herself awake, but she fell asleep."

He lifts an eyebrow.

"Let me just... go and get her." You rush back to where the others are, and gently pick up Val, then return to the main plaza. "Here."

"I don't think she'll be able to make a good case in front of the Golden Lord like this. Maybe your friend should rest and stand back in line tomorrow. The blessed courthouse is about to close soon anyway."

"Oh, no. And- and now what will I do?"

He shrugs, as if to say "not my problem". "Wait for tomorrow."

"Um, but can't, uh, can't I see the Golden Lord during the night?"

He laughs. "I'm afraid that's impossible. We have strict rules. You need to present your case to him during the prescribed hours. And the courthouse will reopen tomorrow at half past eight."

"That's a bit too late for me."

"What legal case is so urgent that the judgement of none other than the Golden Lord cannot wait one night?" He asks, then turning his back to you to return to his post.

>...Fine, let's find a place where to sleep then.
>You guys take Val to somewhere she can rest, I'll handle this somehow.

This gods kinda being a jerk, but we came all this way to meet him, so that's what we're gonna do.
>>
>>155161
>...Fine, let's find a place where to sleep then.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong but we don't actually have a *need* to see him, right? What are we gonna do; talk, bribe and seduce our way past his staff until we get to him and then go "Uh... hey! Just thought I'd drop by. "?
>>
>>155161
>"That's a bit too late for me."
Is it, though? We came really far and only have a small bit left before Gem tomorrow. What's the harm in waiting around for a bit in the morning?

That said, I don't think the Golden Lord is really being rude here. He's a fixture of An-Teng, so of course protocols are set up. If anything, we could just have one of his priests pass him a message that the Princess of the Earth looks forward to seeing him early the next morning or something.
>>
>>155161
>>...Fine, let's find a place where to sleep then.
just leave a message saying "If he has time for Maka of Tianna, a princess of creation, send a messenger ok?"
>>
>>155161
>You guys take Val to somewhere she can rest, I'll handle this somehow.
I don't mind waiting in line, I mean even if court is closing I bet he'd make time at the end to talk to a Solar, judging us was his whole shtick in the First Age, it's kinda why I wanted to see him.

UCS named us Princess of Creation so I want to know what one of his top guys thinks about us.

>This gods kinda being a jerk
We're just talking with a monk, man. One who probably hears the same or similar "No, listen, MY business is SPECIAL" line a few dozen times every day from smucks trying to skip the queue.

Hell, we don't even actually HAVE a case for him, we're just on a social call. I don't know about you, but I'd be a bit annoyed if a stranger caught me just as I was closing up shop and wanted to chitchat.
>>

>[SESSION END]
It's over!

Thanks for the thread as always EF.
>>
>>155362
We sorta have a potential case if no one minds, judging Maka herself.
>>
I have to take care of some stuff now, so I can't quite handle XP expenditure right now, we'll do that next time.

I'll still be checking this thread every now and then for answering questions.
>>
>>155360
What, no bonus XP for fucking a fae into a mid-existance crisis?

It's official. Maka is Too Good at sex. We've reached the point where almost nothing in creation qualifies as a mighty lay.
>>
>>155380
That was amazing, but i can't give you XP for rolling really well, can I?

Besides, having a new fae plaything should be reward enough.
>>
>>155380
Only one thing to do, then: set sights on Yu Shan.
>>
>>155360
And this'll probably be my last one for a while, actually this one kinda came out of nowhere just yesterday.

Somewhere back home:

>>155423
At least she doesn't get success-doubling on non-CoDs. The real point to remember is that Maka is good at smiting evil things, good at sex, and absolutely amazing when those two fields overlap.
>>
>>155432
Delightful. Every time Millian speaks makes me glad we have her to speak truth to power.
>>
>>155461
There are success doublers for other trees too. Well for Dawn at least, Karas has the sword version and we've had access to the SHS one for a while now.
>>
>>155408
>That was amazing, but i can't give you XP for rolling really well, can I?
Strictly speaking, almost all of our XP comes from rolling well, since a good idea with shit rolls still ends up a failure.

That's just me being a nitpicky twit, though. I figured the idea of leveling via mindbreaking sex would be funny.

I demand we get a session as Silk where we boss our new feathered friend around, though. It's been too long since we've had a perspective swap.
>>
>>155501
Enemy-Castigating Solar Judgement already doubles successes on physical attacks too. I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.
>>
>>155508
>a session as Silk where we boss our new feathered friend around
That actually sounds really cute/funny.
>>
>>155514
The sword one:
ATOMIC FIRE BLADE: (3B) For one turn you cannot attack or move (but can defend as normal). Your melee attack on the next turn will have double successes.

The Solar Hero Style one:
DRAGON COIL TECHNIQUE: (3B) If attack is succesful, enemy is grabbed. Every turn there's a [Phys+Dawn] contested roll to break free. If you're in control, you can either crush them (using the contested roll as your attack roll) and keep them held, or throw them (double successes).
>>
>>155461
That's why we need to get Eclipsing the Sun, so we can ECSJ anything we want to.

Thanks a ton EF, I'm thrilled you loved it.

I had a lot of fun with this one actually, Milly is so fun to write.

Somehow I'm now picturing Millian as Taiga. Even their heights match!

Have we discovered EF's weakness? Quick, more moe!

>I demand we get a session as Silk where we boss our new feathered friend around, though. It's been too long since we've had a perspective swap
I think I remember EF saying he was against Fae as a player race because of how their powers worked. Of course If I'm remembering wrong then this is the second best idea in the thread, first place going to whoever rememberered Fae were Creatures of Darkness.
>>
>>155533
Also, since no one else mentioned it I assume that the hit we took to the chest has healed already?
>>
>>155626
It's healing slower than normal for you (possibly because of the poison) but it'll probably be fine tomorrow. It's just one health level.

>>155623
>I think I remember EF saying he was against Fae as a player race because of how their powers worked. Of course If I'm remembering wrong then this is the second best idea in the thread, first place going to whoever rememberered Fae were Creatures of Darkness.
Nah, you remember right. Honestly I wouldn't even know how to run a fae as a PC properly.
>>
>>155667
I imagine it would be super meta
>>
>>155667
Personally my philosophy is that it's reasonable to treat shaped raksha like other kinds of spirits, with a custom charm set. The idea is basically that by shaping themselves to be able to exist in Creation so they bind themselves to Creation's rules, right?

Statting UNshaped Raksa is really just an exercise in folly.

>Personally my philosophy is that it's reasonable to treat shaped raksha like other kinds of spirits, with a custom charm set. The idea is basically that by shaping themselves to be able to exist in Creation so they bind themselves to Creation's rules, right?

Only partially. I think that reducing them to "just another spirit" would be really, really boring.

>>155680
>I imagine it would be super meta
It probably would. I have no idea if it would work, though. I'm always wary of things getting too meta.
The meta level of a narrative is very, very hard to do well.

I might still try it someday, mind you.
>>
>>155727
Considering the context of the hypothetical thread in question, couldn't you just not stat her at all? I was hoping for a Silk-flavored SoL sort of thing, with the opportunity to get the sexbrainwashing of our new fae started and see how Silk keeps herself entertained. Maybe some people from Pearl visit. Nothing crunchy.

Or you could just stat her based on one of those joke sheet threads that get made now and then, then come up with some backwards fae "logic" to justify why a given action is based on the Viscosity stat instead of Silkyness (the best stat, must be maxed).

No. Doublers are never doubled themselves.

>Let's see. 22 successes on a mental defense of 6 means you hit her by 16, which means social damage is your Social (6), plus 16, minus her Social soak (5).
17 points of social damage are a pretty solid Intimacy, instantly formed.

>Which, of course, is utterly insane and terrifying.

>You got a further +6 from your social charms, on top of all that.

I wasn't aware mindbreak was one of my fetishes until just now.
>>

>mental defense of 6
>her Social soak (5).
That high Mental Defense either means she's got a six in her statblock somewhere or she's got charms for that, I'm not sure which I'm hoping it is.
Still those are some super high stats for a low ranking fae, makes me kinda curious/scared to see what Silk looks like. Also it went a little unnoticed, but Maka is totally prettier than a Fae.
>>
>>162297
>those are some super high stats for a low ranking fae
Actually, since Fair Folk tend to be conspicuously lacking when it comes to dice adders/excellencies, it's pretty common for them to have absurdly high base stats instead. The design strategy is such that where, say, Maka has SHS for +3 wrestling dice? A Fair Folk warrior would instead just have +1 Physical and +1 Dawn, for a smaller total dice pool but at a free and constant rate.

Which is why mid-tier fae tend to be a solid peer-level threat for Dragon-blooded, and good minibosses for Celestial Exalted.

Is it cool if we can bring in my Dawn Caste Master Craftsmen Bureaucrat 9,0 ft tall racist Indian by the name of Omar North-Tower? His threshold name is "Bending of the Steel-Beam Incarnate"

Homie, I'd strongly encourage you to read the archives to get a handle on how quest threads actually work.
