"Debt?"

"Yes. You took out quite a few substantial loans and so far you've reported zero profit from your... 'Dungeon'. You are long overdue so I've been sent to possibly work out some form of payment plan with you. If you're willing to at least cover a percentage of the interest today we-"

"YOU DARE COME INTO MY LAIR AND SPEAK TO ME OF DEBT!? ME!? THE KING OF DEMONS."

"Yes, well, normally I don't make home visits but the amount is quite substantial."

I hate these ruler types. They are the absolute worst. Always thinking their owed things. I hope he tries to not pay. Then I can just write it off, go home, and let the bank take care of it.

"... So, what exactly are my options here? Because I don't quite have the coin. I can assure you that I am working on it and I should have some money soon, though."

Second. We can work out a bi-monthly payment plan or the sort, but we'll need him to sign a document legally naming something worthwhile as collateral alongside it. The offered item will be then appraised shortly by an expert in the field, and if it is deemed to be of sufficient value, then the item will be temporarily placed under the company's onwership until the loan is paid off. If found lacking, then another item will have to be put forward for consideration alongside the prior item, until sufficient equivalent value is reached.

"Well, Heroes, as you may know, don't come around too much these days. We're in an older area and my dungeon isn't exactly the highest level. Most of the Heroes are off in Lord Dreadlord's dungeon. "Heeeeyyyy!," Her Boss says, "Mary! How's everything going with the Demon Lord case?"

"There's a small problem. See, I tried to deliver our notice and work out a payment plan with the customer but he... Well, he decided to quit working on the dungeon and left me in charge with a spell that will keep me here for 100 years. He then fled. As you can guess, this situation is a bit outside of my field. So, I am requesting a spell breaker and for a lawsuit to be issued against the King of Demons."

"The month!? Sir, that is unacceptable! I am STUCK here in the demon lands without a penny to my name and trapped in a dungeon with a slime and a stuttering wreck! I don't know if there's any food and there's SOMETHING in the basement that no one is telling me about! You have to find someone to get me out of here?"

"Mmmm... Alright I'll see what I can do, Mary. But I need you to be a brave girl and stick it out for me until I get something for you, alright? Just think of it as a vacation."

"Vacations are usually voluntary."

"A forced vacation."

"That sounds like prison. Am I at least being paid for these hours?"

"So.. What the hell happened to this place?" Mary asks.

"W-well.. See-"

"Our boss fucking sucked." The Demonologist says.

"D-d-demonologist! Y-you can't say that!" The Librarian stammers out.

"What? It's true. He did a terrible job with this place. There was only like one room. And it was filled with slimes. Those are the worst monsters. All they do is divide and spit up goo on things. Then, he spent all of our resources on making that one room look nice. Oh then all of our runes were used to summon succubus demons. It was a literal fuckton of succubus demons. At least I had enough Water Runs from that to summon all the slimes afterwards. Oh, then he fired our Dungeoneer, our Sentries, our Medics, our Cooks, our Crafters. Then he wasted the last of all of our stuff summoning that thing in the basement."

"What is the thing in the basement?" Mary asks.

"Doesn't matter. So, now we're all up the creek without a paddle. Librarian and I haven't even been paid in ages. We just stay here so we don't become homeless."

"Wow... That uh.... That sucks."

"Yeah. So, if you wanna do nothing but sit around all day that's fine. We're used to it. Just let me know if you ever somehow get enough Runes to summon a demon."

>>143484
"How do we get mana and runes?"

"By converting items. You take an item and you can turn it into either Gold, Mana, or Runes. For example if you got an Iron Sword you could make it into 1 mana, 10 gold, or a Sword Rune. That's just a hypothetical but, you know, that's the basics. I can use Runes to summon demons or objects for the place, Librarian can use Mana to give you spells or craft magical objects, and gold... Well, it can be used to buy things. But, you just converted what I think is the only thing of value in this entire dungeon."

Wonder aloud what could be done with 500 water runes?
>>
>>143641
forgot about rune properties, was just thinking of them as general runes lol
>>
>>143641
Our own water based dungeon.
>>
>>143651
oh shit this though
water levels are notoriously difficult, meaning it would attract the more hardened heroes, meaning better loot. and the less hardened heroes that try their luck will surely fail, ensuring whatever they might have to be ours. i vote water level.
But we need to figure out what the basement dweller is, perhaps we could incorporate it into this?
>>
>>143584
Can't we check what that "thing" is?
>>
>>143641
Soooo many water level puzzles, but they don't all activate on the way in, they activate when you try and leave!

also maybe high pressure water jet traps, drowning chambers, electrical energy via water wheels, rearranging the dungeon via water work powered mechanisms, steam mechs if we can get some fire runes.
>>
>>143665
Maybe with some sort of souped up water demon shield thing in the way sure.
>>
>>143669
All I did was remind these people that slime make water runes. They did the rest on there own.
>>
>>143584
Mary, if you're tired, tell us. We will wait for you to sleep.
>>
>>143584
well if we're going for a water dungeon (which would be sick) we need to spend some gold on some workers to build another floor, expand the basement or whatever, but before anything i really think we should figure out more about this monster. what if we find out its like a fucking bunny or something, and we already have the ads posted, and the heroes come and like, slay us?
>>
>>143669
as an addendum... steam... could we make the entire dungeon a massive bath house? Hot spring/ bath episodes in rpg's are fairly common and they tend to be mid game, late game or dlc and thus would attract adventurers with good loot plus if we actually ran it as a bath house in addition to being a dungeon we'd have stable income depending on where exactly this dungeon is located
>>
>>143710
Ha. That'd be neat. The front and primary rooms are a bathhouse, and if any ballsy adventurers want to try their luck, a dungeon in the back. Would be the perfect setup, allowing them to rest up and recuperate before going in for it.

That only works for those with a Hero License. I do not have that. I have to pay a lot for insurance just because of the increased likelihood of me being killed on the job.

"No... First we need to get stuff for the dungeon. Proper stuff. Like a kitchen. And people to cook the food we'll be getting."

"Right..." The demonologist wipes the drool off of her face. "Well, I suppose I should explain that a bit. Here's a list of what we can get."

===Basic Units===
Builder: Can build rooms. G-500
Cook: Cooks food. Boosts morale for other units. G-200 (Kitchen Required)
Dungeoneer: Builds traps and manages the Army. G-300 (Barracks required)

===Advance Units===
(None unlocked)

===Basic Rooms===
Kitchen: G-200
Barracks: G200
Empty Room: G50
Treasure Room: G100

===Advance Rooms===
Mini-Boss Room: G100
Final Boss Room: G1000
False Final Boss Room: G500
Trapped Room: G75

Note: Rooms are furnished with the bare minimum. They can be enhanced with runes.

===Demon Summons===
Unlocked:
Slime: 1 Rune
Big Slime: 2 Runes

===Spells===
Unlocked:
Audit: Takes 1 item from target. 20 Mana
Calculate: Tells the worth of target. 10 Mana
Multiply: Temporarily creates a copy of an object. 20 Mana
Bankrupcy: Target loses all items. 100 Mana
Summon Lawyers: Summons a lawyer to distract target. 20 Mana.

"Aaaand... That's about it." The demonologist says. "At least that's all we have right now. Also, because a majority of our runes are either Fancy or Water we can add those to anything we create."

"Interesting..."

>>143616
"Any new slimes we summon... Will they have cores?"

"Of course."

>>143665
>>143706
"... I really want to check on that thing in the dungeon."

"Are you sure? It is quite dangerous."
>>
>>143710
This so much...! But we should learn what that thing is before making too many plans; it could play against us or even make for some other choices.
>>
>>143734

>>
>>143734
IT'S TIME
CHECK OUT THE THING IN THE BASEMENT
>>
>>143734
Summon a army of slimes using the slime ruin loophole and send them into the basement to clear it out.
>>
>>143734
well obviously a builder for starters. is there a way to investigate the monster without getting near it? does the demonologist actually just know nothing about it?
>>143671
is a water shield possible and how likely is it to acutally protect from this beast?
>>
>>143752
we might need/benefit from what's down there.
>>
>>143745
agreed... im hoping it's decent midboss material... but...
>>
>>143734

Err. How fast does a builder build rooms? And do we require a builder to build rooms, or do we get free rooms if we get a builder? Also, wish we had a telecon to contact the fire dungeon. They could probably use some water.
>>
>>143745
Gonna have to second this. We hopefully don't have to get too close to it, just maybe a quick open and close the door if they won't tell/don't know themselves.
Regardless, though, I think these three are safe purchases regardless of what we do with the creature:

1: Kitchen
2: Cook
3: 1 Empty Room
>>
I was just thinking; what if we make the main room of the dungeon also be the final boss room? The adventurers will have to summon it trough the other rooms, and the main room would change a little every time they kill a mini boss or do something; it makes for a lot of suspense!
>>
>>143734
So since we've got all these water runes, what objects can the Demonologist summon with them.
>>
>>143734
summon Big slime as a shield in case monster is fast, enter basement and quickly use Calculate on basement demon. perhaps we could even use multiply on it, who knows it even might be capable of speech/reasoning? here's hoping i guess. all with the proper approach
>>
>>143765

A giant stone snake head eventually rises up from the bath pool, welcoming adventurers down. Below is the true boss of the dungeon, by which I mean the mouth closes when they read the note at the very bottom and little holes open to let water drown those fuckers to death.
>>
>>143734
Also, are those spells just from you being an Auditor? Those actually ain't half bad. No, you might not be a force of nature on your own yet, but with the right setup/distracting forces, you could be hell in a handbasket for a lot of adventures with your Audit, Multiply, and Bankrupcy skills. Like, I legit would not want to see someone with those skills in a dungeon crawl, were I an adventurer. God help someone like an alchemist running into you for longer than 2 seconds.

>>143786

>>
>>143788

>>
>>143788
>>143797

>>
>>143773
It won't get popular with a death end ;w; we have to at least give then the chance to win so they keep on trying. Hope keeps thinga moving!
Also yes, the main room just HAS to have comfy hot waters, maybe they could rest between every room?
>>
>>143797
so we did get rid of the fancy stuff.
ok
>>
>>143814
Sure there can be resting spots, but you have to pay for service or bring your own stuff to heal up with! Then we make the prices for healing etc exorbitant but the traps will make them use up their own healing items quickly till their forced to either pay up or deal with going to the next room damaged.
>>
>>143826

I REALLY hope we didn't come all this way for a measly 550 gold worth of assets. That would be horrifyingly dumb.
>>
>>143814
Agreed- OH. BOSS RUSH TEST YOUR STRENGTH STYLE. That way we could really play up the business/coliseum aspect of it! Not to mention I feel like it'd be easier to save money up for. Just get a few HUGE monsters instead of a lot of small ones. Would save money on rooms, too. We could make it a choice, even! A more 'casual' run through allowing you to rest between fights, or a 'Survival Mode' challenge where you fight them all back to back to back.

And of course, we CHARGE for it.
>>
>>143833
To further explain, the fact that we'd still be killing adventurers means that no one will get on our case about being not evil enough, BUT the fact that we're not BLATANTLY evil would likely attract more than just super-hardy adventurers. We'd also get poor shmucks and greenhorns looking to test their might and have no idea what their getting into. Everyone's money is good here.

If someone were to actually make it through all our big baddies...well, we'll figure out some kinda reward.
>>
>>143833
ooh, this is good... yeah basically combine the roman baths with the coliseum!
>>
>>143828
Can't we just be fair about it? They will talk about our dungeon, and Id rather not have them saying we are a blatant rip off. ;w;
Enjoyment makes for the best advertising!

>>143833
YES.

YES!
>>
>>143833

See, the way you make a dungeon fun isn't necessarily by having challenging enemies, but by making the fights memorable and forcing people to use their heads to get around situations.

For instance, we have slimes, only slimes. How do you make a good fight out of slimes? Well, say you make a room where one slime out of many has a key. That slime then runs around, colliding with other slimes, multiplying until its impossible to find the right one. The catch? You kill a slime and the key disappears.
>>
>>143833
Nice. It's much better than just looting them. This keeps them coming and even if they do get away alive they still pay us, neat.

We currently have 0 things.

"Before we go, quick question, so does a builder build the things in the dungeon? Do we need them to start?"

"No, but having one unlocks more advanced rooms. They're quite helpful in that regard."

>>143769
"What exactly can you make with water runes? And I guess fancy."

"Well, basically ask me what you want and I'll try and make it for you. But, with so much Water and Fancy runes... Well, let's just say if you ask me for a towel it's not gonna be terribly useful. It'll look nice, though."

>>143778

>Mary uses up two runes to summon a Big Slime. She also summons a Nice Bat for a rune.

>She goes down the stairs and approaches the door to the basement.

"Alright... I'm gonna send the slime in. We'll stay behind...."

"My King," The Demonologist says, "Just be sure you don't kill the thing. It cost quite a bit so I would rather not see my creation go to waste."

"I won't... But why don't we just convert it back?"

"It's evolved beyond that. We tried, though."

"Right... Alright, Big Slime, you ready?"

>The big slime nods. Mary opens the door and lets her inside.

>The slime sorta glides forward, looking around curiously as it does so.

I like that one. It's cute. I'm gonna name it Curi.

>The slime burbles and glubs as it goes deeper into the room.

>Something reaches out from the darkest part of the room and wraps itself around the Slime. It is swiftly torn to shreds.

...

>Mary closes the door.

So... I say we make that the final boss.
>>
>>143844

>>
>>143856

>>
>>143864

>Mary takes a deep breath and brings up the Dungeon Interface.

Alright, let's see...

>Funds are limited, but she has enough money to do a few basic things. First, she buys a few empty rooms and puts a Slime in one of them. The other simply has a staircase leading down to It. A lock is purchased to prevent heroes from going to the back to where the new Kitchen is. She hires a Cook to staff it.

Hmm... If I'm willing to spend Runes I can make each of the new rooms take on a water sorta look. Blue shades, marble, all that.
>>
>>143944
Yes, we'll go for an aqua theme! Decorations will surely make the adventurers feel more immersed.
>>
>>143944

>>
>>143944

>>
>>143944
Why don't we go about designing the challenges? It's a boss rush sure, but that doesn't mean it has to be a single big boss every time; we could use the slime-key idea some anonhorn had before. I for one Im thinking some up; they have to be fun!

Also why would we audit this "thing"? We already have our mega final boss, let's use it!
>>
>>143944

Create a lavish front entrance with marble statues pouring water down into basins. The entry room will contain a giant bath with marble floors.
>>
>>143955
Audit answers the question of getting items from the thing.assuming we can keep it from murdering us.
>>
>>143944
Okay, so the main 'spa' room, I'm envisioning something semi basic for now, just a nice bathhouse look, something that people won't feel icky getting into. I like the shades of blue coloration idea, makes it seem soothing. This is gonna be the room that most adventurers see most often, so it needs to look welcoming.

Good call on the lock.

Also, if we're going to be doing the 'select your challenge type' thing, then we'll need a setup that allows them to both continue from room to room in sequence, and let them walk in and out at will. Simple enough, really. I'm seeing a circular setup.
>>
>>143955
yeah, don't audit, use the slime key idea and all that
>>
>>143955

My curiosity really wants to audit this thing, bankrupting it if we possibly can.

As for challenges:
> A room with a deep pool and a chain at the bottom of a whirlpool. When you pull the chain, which requires swimming and balancing against the current, another key is released into a bowl.
My thought here is we need a certain number of keys to open the basement. Then they earn the honor of fighting the boss. Also, keep in mind, adventurers who lose aren't necessarily gone for good. They may come back determined to beat the place.
>>
>>143965

> Slime girl charades: The adventurers must patiently wait out a game of charades with a slime girl, interpreting her motions and getting them right in order to progress. When they get enough right, she gives them a code for the padlock (another "key" for the door).
>>
>>143965

>Also, keep in mind, adventurers who lose aren't necessarily gone for good. They may come back determined to beat the place.

And that is how we got rich. As for the challenge, wouldn't it favor strong physical types over magic or dextrity users?

And... you know, let's audit it. Not because it's reasonable; maybe it is. Im just too dead curious now.

Well, the brutish types will go right for the chain and pull on it with all their strength. Keep in mind, those individuals will generally be wearing armor (which we could steal if we are feeling devious). The dexterous/intelligent types might do something else, like attaching a rope or summoning a creature to help them. If they don't have those, then they are being challenged.

OKAY SO I MADE A LAYOUT.

This is kinda how I imagine the second floor to be- a semicircle area that is accessed by a pair of stairs on either the left or the right of the main 'spa' room. These doors lead to a circular walkway that oversees the spa area, with doors that lead to the challenge arenas. There's TWO exits per area- one for those trying to do it all in one go, and one for those wanting to take a breather between rooms. I think this is a pretty ergonomic and efficient way of getting things made.

I feel I should mention that I am hoping that not ALL the challenges are non-combat besides the boss. They have to show some kinda martial prowess, right? Charades and debate.
>>
>>144016
I'll have to rent those. When's the return date?
>>
>>144022

I think if I could only pick two, I would want Slippery Slopes and So You Think You Can Slime?

Adventurers are typically athletic, and by including a wide range of obstacles, such as ledge grabs, climbing walls, and objects they have to swing off of, you can kind of run them through their paces and burn some of their stamina off.

Stronger competitors will have more raw muscle power, which will help them in certain ways. However, it also makes them heavier, allowing dexterous individuals to catch up somewhat.

Add a time limit for extra difficulty. Make the goo girls either supportive, seductive, or belligerent in the pits at the bottom, then structure the whole thing so it looks like a natural part of a dungeon environment, and you'll have happy adventurers.

Mages might geek the challenge, and some people might cheat. In those cases, just force them to go through another challenge before proceeding.

So You Think You Can Slime is just really amusing in my mind. I love the idea of adventurers trying to dance along to an enthusiastic goo girl just tearing up the dance floor. However, if you want to be fair to intelligent individuals, Slime Girl Charades would be preferable.
>>
Once we develop our baseline dungeon layout, we'll need to think about creating the franchise. The fastest (and most unethical; therefore most evil) way out of 100M in debt would be to turn into the Yum! of dungeoneering.
>>
>>144110
Aw, what's the hurry? =w=

Well, So You Think You Can Slime is already a favorite! We need one, or maybe two more, and Im voting for Charades.

This is a business, Mr. Man! We may have woken up this morning a mere Auditor, but we're going to sleep a Queen of Demons. This is a golden (if involuntary) opportunity for us! Also, we don't want to be here for a hundred years! We've got things to do!
>>
>>144110

My thought is this. Plenty of dungeons seek to break your spirit and murder you. Why not create a dungeon that for the most part is a place of relaxation? Warm beds, warm baths, supportive if eccentric goo girls inviting you to challenge yourself and your friends in interesting ways.

Obviously right now we can't really afford the luxury to draw crowds on just that. We need the boss to kill people to really make gold, something we could theoretically upsell as "whoever defeats the boss gets everything [including our horrific debt]", but after that, separating the franchise out into basically two dungeons, one franchised and one representing the extreme, would be best.
>>
>>144120

That's the brilliance of incorporating a multitude of franchises under a single brand: You can leverage the income from one franchise to build others! As an example, Yum! currently operates Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut.
>>
Maybe later down the line we can make it a multiple-route dungeon to bring in more "customers".
Their can be a boss rush route ending in the basement, a classic route, a murderhobo route that's mostly rooms of enemies, and a puzzle route that has no enemies and is mostly traps, illusions, trick mazes, and such to try to outsmart the adventurer.
>>
What we've learned is, monsters can evolve.

Let's make a room with large, fancy slimes and make them fight to the death till they have enough XP to evolve. Then, when we can't just flip them, lead them below and have the boss kill them, then flip their core for advanced (supposedly) runes.
>>
Gentlemen, this is the future. A MARY'S ON EVERY CORNER.
>>
...Just thought of something- if someone gets lucky and kills the monster quickly before we can get a lot of gold, how are we going to get the money to set the dungeon up?
>>
>>144407

Keep a Slime in reserve, teach it how to tentacle monster, then rent it out? Things could get awful touch and go, I'm not gonna lie.
>>

>>
>>144414

>>
>>144441

>>
>>144407
We train the slimes as builders and have them make the boss room a challe ge room to boot.
>>
>>144450

>>
>>144728

>>
>>144728
I don't think slimes are actually intelligent enough to do something like building. Plus we're already kinda cheating with them thanks to the rune loophole.
>>
>>144964
Yeah, I'd just hire a builder for all that hassle.
>>
>>144964
>>144971
We train them to build so that as the monster is fucking their whole world up, we don't mind losing them.
>>
>>145117
We do construction magically from a pedistal. There is no need to send workers into that room to build a thing.
>>
>>145148
Ah. Well, nevermind then.

Still think we should forcibly evolve slimes in an effort to farm runes.

...can we sell runes?
>>
>>144971
...speaking of the rune loophole.

Can runes be converted into anything other than demons, or are we just stuck with umpteen runes and nothing else? Basically, can we trade runes for money or mana?

Can we use a fancy rune and a water rune to make a fancy slime for fancy rune production?

Alright, so here's the deal...

Right now we have just a basic dungeon set up. With what resources are available I've been able to craft a water themed dungeon that has a slime as an enemy and a final boss. Sadly, this is all I can do with my available resources. Perhaps after a hero or two comes down here and we take their stuff.

Look at me, getting into this.

>>143981
saved for later planning

I like this, it seems like a very efficient way of doing it. Right now all the rooms I can make are square. I think a builder will be needed. Let's see... 9 empty rooms at base would be 450 gold... Now, assuming that they're specialized rooms they may cost a bit more. Let's say it would be 600-800 for the lot... Then there's rune costs for all the monsters that we'll put in it...

We need to decide on what kind of monsters. We can get plenty of runes so will they all be aquatic?

We could go for the challenge idea and make it so that each room has it's own unique thing. They have to face either each room on it's own or the gauntlet for a chance at real loot.

Ah, loot probably costs money too... So, in the end we have to make it challenging enough that we can make money off of the Heroes dying but not so difficult that they don't come. Also, have to make it not too easy so we don't lose out on loot.

I really do like the idea of a special swimsuit item being included as a potential prize. Potential being the keyword. We can make money on those gambling type Heroes.

Perhaps we could even make it so that there are different floors... Floors for those who want a physical challenge and floors for those who want a mental one.

For now let's finalize this particular design. We'll work on the dungeon more as we get better assets.

>>145208
Ah, well I recently upgraded from the Broker class to my current position. I was hoping to move into the Quantitative Analyst Class before I hit Level 35, but we'll see.

>>145177
From what I can see runes can only be used to make things. But, you can use runes to make something and then turn that thing into something else. Like use runes to make a sword then convert the sword into gold. But the forms aren't exactly equal so if you're converting things it's best just to know what you want beforehand.

Now... Let's see what happens when we use a Fancy and Water rune to create a slime...

>By combining the runes a new type of slime is created! A Royal Jelly (small)!
>>
>>145250
Looking at what an actuary is (hadn't heard of it before you said), that'd be pretty baller, I think. Luck and personality manipulation, maybe?
>>
>>145267
Keep making more Royal Jellies until we can get a large one!
I guess we all have to do is wait for adventurers now!
>>
>>145267

Right, good points. Okay, so yeah, I don't think it'd be good to have EVERYTHING aquatic, monsters and all, but I could see it being a recurring 'general' theme. Aside from that, yeah, let's lock down what we have for now, and start with the base promotional stuff. Let's see how many folks die to Sir-Kill-A-Lot down there. Nothing else urgent pops out at me at the moment. Depending on how much gold we get per adventurer, we can adjust plans.

Aha, Royal Jelly looks cute. I kinda want it to just be the one.
>>
>>145267
>A Royal Jelly (small)!
...you absolute madman, you actually did it. I was only asking if it was possible!
>>
>>145267
So, uh, can we use the slime loophole with fancy runes, now?

Also, totally got to go into business as an advisor to prospective dungeon-crafters after we get out of this mess.
>>
>>145267

As I kind of expected, we have one slime who can't really into combat and one room not filled with a universe eating monstrosity. We must remember that one room can hold many challenges, but first, we must ask ourselves whether or not we want to bother with the sort of challenge we can set up for the sort of crowd who are going to want to fight this horrifying thing.

If you come expecting hardcore challenges and get a cutesy slime trying to get you dancing, you might not be happy. You expect something difficult and abrasive.

We could always make the advertising false to lure adventurers into a false sense of security before fighting, but that seems to diminish our one shining asset, an unbeatable combat monster.

If at first we want that as our selling point, I recommend this, create a room with various obstacles (platforms, ledges, and climbing walls). In order to open the room with the boss, the adventurers must pull three levers to open the door.

-cont
>>
>>145421

> Lever one is at the very top of the room, which would preferably be tall. To get there, they must climb the slippery walls and then swing across a series of chandeliers to pull a chain lever down.
> Lever two is directly below and in the center of the room, in a whirlpool swirling in a moat between a series of platforms. For added hilarity, the "water" in the mote is just slime girl clones, who are ready to bash anyone who comes down there with bats we place for their use. Remember, basic weapons in large quantities can really add up.

> Lever three... I don't really know. If anyone has thoughts, that'd be great.
>>
>>145421
We could claim that all the rooms leading up to it are a complimentary tour and safety measure for the dungeon master. I don't know, as long as they don't assume the slime is the unbeatable monster we advertised I don't really see an issue.
>>
>>145439

To further flesh out the idea of two, the whirlpool and moat look just like regular water. However, the whirlpool could just be slime girls running around in circles really-really fast, or one big slime. The other slimes give the appearance of water to break a person's fall when they're climbing up the wall and stumble. However, they can just pull themselves out of the way instead, letting the person hit the hard marble floor before coming out with bats and finishing the job on their stunned opponent.

> Lever 3 we might not even need, but if we do, then we could set it up where the boss door opens bit by bit with suitably ominous rumbles and groans if the adventurers dance along to the slime girls movements in a "ritual ceremony"

For the entry hall, I say set Queeny up with as a luxury service. She clearly is the fanciest, so she must know of the finer things like massages and spa treatment. If the adventurers play along with her games, which could include plenty of fun slime games she'll treat them to a round of pampering before the challenges. For added adorable-ness add a offering slot with something adorable like "Thank you for your service, and if you enjoyed yourself, please help this monster grow." So good-hearted adventurers might be willing to give a few extra coins, which can really add up to help us deck out the front halls.
>>
>>145465
I say just let them be there. It provides immediate incentive to NOT fall.
>>
>>145518

However, remember, slimes don't normally hold any chance of winning a fight, even in large numbers. If we can give them the element of surprise while doing something devious though, like Tucker's Kobolds, it'll generate chatter in the community. All we need is one person talking about how they got their ass handed to them by slimes to get some heavy foot traffic.
>>
>>145267
I want to use Fancy and Water to make a slime that cleans stuff when it hit it.
Then give it our Audit spell.
>>
>>145465
Also, for the Queen's challenges...You ever played Mother 3? I'm thinking something like Porky's Games. Do well, but not perfect. Just to trip people up and give them just the right amount of righteous indignation.

For those who don't know/haven't played, basically there's three minigames near the end of the game that you have to just barely lose in order to move on because the main villain is just that much of an egotistical dick.

>>145465
Genius.

>>145371
It... It seemed like a good idea...

>>145386
Ah, see. Here is the problem. It cost me two runes to make that slime but if I break it down it only gives me a single water rune. I guess you only get one rune per object and it's based on what the object is considered to be primarily of.

>>145300
>>145281
Alright, everything's bought. Our funds are rather low but we've effectively doubled the size of the dungeon now.

>>145560
Further testing is required.

>The dungeon is locked and set.

>Mary is about to go and meet the cook when an alarm goes off.

What the...?

>The Librarian runs up to Mary.

"M-m-my King! A Hero! In the dungeon!"

>Mary pulls up the screen. From there she has finer control over the dungeon and can see what the Hero is doing.

>"ALRIGHT VILE KING OF DEMONS! I heard tell that you have a new dungeon! Well I, Knight Chevalier, will d- Wow this place looks really pretty."

>He starts walking up to the next room.
>A single slime is there.

Hmm... Alright, according to the dungeon thing I can leave the room as is or tinker with it before the Hero goes in. Give the slime orders, put more slimes, stuff like that. If I want to add anything to the room before he goes in it'll cost some resources. Though, again, I could leave it alone.

>Is there something seriously wrong with this guy or is he just a good troll?
Some people have fetishes they want included in the quests they play, so it has an equal chance of being any one of them.
>>
Bit to early for a cafe of any sort I'd say, plus supply of what are probably rare trade goods (coffee, good tea etc) would be a major issue. Maybe an expansion we could do later or a separate venture after we have enough capital, also if you're gonna do a monstergirl maid cafe you need a variety of species for maximum range of appeal, some people don't like slimes and would prefer say an arachne or harpy or something.
>>
>>146188
I don't feel the need to bring my fetish into any quests and even if I did I wouldn't be a creep about it and even if I was, well my stuff is not socially detrimental anyway so I wouldn't have to worry about anyone complaining about it.

Plus the odd of this particular "fetish" (also known as a mental disorder in this case) is low. So what is your point anyway?

>The hero steps out of the doorway and into the room.

"What the-"

>They are instantly slaughtered.

>A new button appears on the Dungeon Screen. Mary taps it and loots the hero for everything they have.
>She gains a full armor set, a sword, a health potion, and 50 gold.

>The Hero's body vanishes, off to respawn in their hometown.

Huh... Not bad for a first dungeon run, I think.

"Not bad, right?" Mary asks the Demonologist.

"It's more than we've made in ages. But wait, the most important part is about to happen."

["Dungeon? More like 'Fungeon'! **/*****

I recently decided to give the Dungeon of Pain another try today! I was told there was a new super boss at it and that it was under new management. Well, I didn't get to meet the new Dungeon Master but they sure weren't kidding about the super boss!

That thing managed to kill me in one hit!

There were some pretty clever puzzles and traps, but nothing too difficult for me!

My only complaint is that the dungeon was really small! And there was no loot!

Would suggest they expand and add more loot!

And less slimes!

If you're looking for a short, simple, dungeon with a challenging boss at the end, this is the one for you!]
=====

"And there's our review." The Demonologist explains. "We get those each time someone important comes through the dungeon. It has a two fold purpose. Not only does it tell us where we can improve but it also helps spread the word. Two starts isn't very good but some of what's written here may help us out."
>>
>>146617

>>
>>146624
Slime Lilies are for noogying. Anyways best to start designing the dungeon with more puzzles and add some different bosses.
>>
>>146624
More Slimes? More slimes. Like hundreds of themé. And lets turn the first part into a slimy slippery labyrinth filled with tentacle slimes.
>>
>>146624
Lets make a room holding a bull minotaur with energy drinks as loot.
>>
>>146624
Why must you bully the slime?

Evil Army Aspect!: Slimes are essential as the bottom and top of every dungeon food pyramid, by cleaning up refuse as well as laying down a trail of nutrients for new life to grow upon.

>>
>>146643
By maze, I meant something like this.

With slimes and chests.
>>
>>146624

So, we have a sword, armor, a health potion and about 102 gold. We need to know what the objects are each worth in terms of scrap (runes, mana, gold). We'll go from there. If we can get a fight-y rune, I'd kind of like a knight slime.
>>
>>146624
So can we add rooms onto the front of the dungeon? I don't think we should try moving our super boss.

>>146670
Thats actually a reallly easy maze.
>>
>>146624
Less slimes? But there were only two slimes. Okay how about we just have one big slime next time.

We need income so let's sell most of that loot and get some more rooms. We also need more monster types... what about a room with water, and some dangerous fish in it? Fish should be water runes, right? Well, if not, how about water elementals? Those aren't slimes, but are made of water. Ice golems could work too.

How about we leave the health potion as loot? Everyone loves health potions. Spend two Fancy runes to make a Mimic and a real chest with like 20 gold in it.
>>
>>146679
That's just evil
>>
>>146624

Does a miniboss room come with a miniboss? Does said miniboss respawn if he is killed? Furthermore does a Dungeoneer turn rooms into trapped rooms for no cost?
>>
>>146686
Oh~ Dude. Turn the Sword into a Rune and combine it with the Fancy Rune. Maybe we'll get like a Royal Knight.
He can be our Miniboss.

Alright... Let's go over what we have.
Right now we have all this, as shown in the diagram.

We also have a full set of armor and a health potion. We can convert that to gold, runes, or mana.

>>146700
Right now those do not come with a miniboss. They are simply made to contain minibosses.

And from what I understand a dungeoneer can convert rooms into trapped rooms for a small fee.

So, first let's decide what to do with what we've got. The armor will become Metal Runes of an unknown amount. The sword will become a Blade Rune. The potion has a 50/50 chance of becoming a Water or Healing Rune. The exact amount of mana gained from them is not known. We should be getting a pretty decent amount of gold for converting them, though.

>>146686
Or we could use some of it as loot.
>>
>>146709
Let's convert the torso and helmet of the armor into gold, while converting the leggings and gauntlets into metal runes. The Sword rune would really buff our slimes if we could give them SLICING weapons, so convert the sword too.
If it's a 50/50 chance of getting a rune we already have, we should sell it so we can invest more. Adventurers in the future will be packing potions a plenty.
>>
>>146709
Can we put the slime in the armor to make it the royal slime knight?
>>
>>146709
Potion to Mana
Armor to Runes
>>
>>146709
Combine the Sword Rune, Armor Rune and a Fancy Rune to try so we can hopefully get a Miniboss.
Convert the rest to Golds. See if we can get a chest or make a mimic and use some of the golds and the potion as phat lewts. Maybe put the Potion behind a secret panel or as the Miniboss Drop.
Pat Lily Slime on the head and tell her she's the best.
>>
>>146709
How are we supposed to set up our loot when we don't have control over the final boss? Just put it on the way and hope they're going to progress into the basement and not ditch?
>>
>>146707
seconded
>>
>>146709
Before we convert anything into runes I say we try to make different monsters out of Water runes. Like the aforementioned ice golems or water elementals. We need more monsters but heroes don't like slimes, but we also have infinite water so we should use it.
>>
>>146709

> Determine value of armor by piece
> Remove the most valuable piece for sale (likely the breastplate)
> Turn remaining armor into runes
> Use metal rune, sword rune, fancy rune, also a water rune, because why not, and hope for a royal guard miniboss.
> Turn health potion into mana

Idea for loot: have the cook put together some simple food to serve as common enemy drops (and maybe declare the armor/sword as rare drops, if we don't use them for runes).

If you're trying to get a nice sword and it doesn't drop, what would you rather get instead: a decent ham sandwich with lettuce and tomato or something like that, or nothing?

>Mary sorts through the items. She sets all of them save for the breastplate aside. She casts her Calculate spell on the breastplate and find that it's worth 1 Metal Rune, 5 Mana, or 60 Gold. It also has a small chance of becoming an armor rune. Mary decides to convert it into gold and turns the rest of the items into runes.

>She gains metal runes, sword runes, and even a rare armor rune.

Hmm... We didn't get much in terms of treasure but we have quite a few interesting runes now. I think we can have a bit of experimentation...

>Mary combines the Fancy, Water, Sword, and Metal runes together. The four swirly together in the demon portal and out pops...!

>Another slime.

>However, this one is actually quite powerful. Backed by four runes it has become the Royal Slime Knight! A fighter of great skill, if it's armor is broken it can still fight on in it's slime form. However, this enemy counts as a Miniboss and can no be placed in a normal room.

>She also tries fusing two water runes but this time making something that isn't a slime. An Ice Elemental appears before her.

So we have quite a bit of control over what we make. Two water runes can make a big slime but it can also make other things that do with a lot of water...

>>146848

>>
>>147704
Let's invest into some chests and some loot too, those were the main complaints we had in our review along with the dungeon being too short.
>>
fuck around with the runes, try adding metals and fancy to get valuables to convert into gold. that is sort of what the minions are for, taking your runes and turning them into what you want.
>>
>>147655
Alright start producing ice elementals to fill our rooms with real danger, and put some more smaller rooms in front of the miniboss room to fill with said elementals. Definitely put the miniboss in the miniboss room, and put a chest behind it with like 20g in it.

Might as well put a couple of Big Slimes here and there to add variety. In the room before the miniboss room, try putting down a couple of ice elementals boosted with Stone runes. Or just one if we don't have more than one Stone.

We need a better review to entice richer victims!

So, from what I can see, slimes are useful because they multiply and grant some chance of you gaining one of the runes that makes up their form.

> Stone + Water = Mud Slime

We set up a rest/healing room, but the adventurers have to pay if they want to use it. if we set it up in like, the middle room, or the one before the boss room, it should be super tempting and they'll almost certainly die to the boss anyway, so we'll get their gold even if they somehow win, and we can recoup cost on whatever loot we end up dishing out.
>>
>>147766
Perhaps defeated monsters are simply sent back to the barracks to respawn, like heroes do?
>>
>>147727
>>147704

As for ice elementals, if you want a hellishly difficult room with very basic monsters, you setup a room that's shaped like a bowl, line the rim with slime girl clones. The heroes come in at the bottom, the slimegirls all spit down the slopes, then the ice elementals freeze the sides. The ice elementals can probably hold their ground for a while at the top. However, that isn't sporting. So at a certain, critical point, send them sliding down at perilous velocities to collide with the adventurers.
>>
>>147704
So... We're voices in Mary's head?

IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL
IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL
IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL
IT'S A SMALL, SMALL, SMALL, SMALL WORLD
>>
>>147772

The beauty here is that slime girls can probably spit water at the ice elementals to heal them during the fight. With the slimes at the top and out of the adventurer's reach, they'll have a hard time beating these basic monsters (which we may be able to bump up a notch with another water rune, though I suspect 4 would spawn another miniboss).

The room will also leave them cold, wet and in desperate want of comfort.

>>
>>148424
I think Mary herself hould greet the heroes at the beginning. The first review did mention that she didn't get to see the new management after all.
Maybe Mary could "roleplay" as an evil queen to get the heroes more hyped.
>>
>>148438
You're really not supposed to see the boss of the dungeon unless you clear it though you know? Plus what if they attack her or something, we're not a fighter at all.

>>148225
I like this idea. Find a way to record the room too, we can put the best ones on OverlordChan.
>>
>>148438
I was thinking the same thing. The review made me think back to how the Demon King was waiting at the front of the dungeon when we showed up. We might want to set up a throne at the front and just use the menu to administrate from there, that way we're present in case another adventurer finds this place.

We should also probably work up an act to put on. Being a dungeon mistress is all about theatrics, after all.

>>148455
Mary isn't the boss of the dungeon, and if they attack, we Audit them.
>>
>>148464

>>

>>
>>148424
Let them trade in autographs for perks.
>>
>>148505
5 Autographs get you a "I survived the Dungeon of Pain" button, 10 get you a collectable Lily Slime keychain, 15 gets you one of three collectable slime plushies which come in Lily Smile, Curi Slime and Nameless Miniboss Slime, 20 get you a collectable Dungeon of Pain T-Shirt, with a cute SD version of Mary's face on the back with a Thumbs Up, 25 get you a limited edition Demonologist Dakimakura, and 30 get you a free lunch with Mary (lunch being a period of time between 12 and 3, all expenses paid, redeemable at any restaurant in the dungeon, offer null if you attack Mary or any of the residents while here, void where prohibited.)
>>
>>148505
So repeat visitors get special rewards? That's not a bad incentive at all actually, it could let us increase the difficulty a bit too I'd bet without too much falloff of heroes. It might be smart to wait to implement that until we get some better ratings that we can advertise as well along with it.

This is a really good idea.
We should start with usable rewards. Get usable drops specific to the dungeon, then they can be traded or combined to make better items.
We should talk to the demonologist about making slime items, as those would be the easiest to start with.
If possible, a high tier item would be a slime pet. People love cute stuff like that, and adventures would spend months in our dungeon to get enough drops for it.

That's an important part. You can get multiple drops to combine per run, so there's a better risk-reward per run.

That's good for when we get bigger, but we need to take into account we're running a minor, obscure dungeon right now.
The trinkets, raffles, and restaurants will be fantastic when we're past "literally who?" level of fame.

We're not memetically famous in world or good for xp grinding, so we need something easy to get going towards those.
Which is cheesing out super hard on the water ruin production and using them to manufacture drops.
>>
>>148651
No, I'm aware, just brainstorming.

>>148629

>>
>>148665
It is Da Best keychain.
We'd probably want to rotate the Keychain, Plushies and Dakimakura too. So you have to run the dungeon all the time to get them all, that way we can also do special runs where you can get Keychains, Plushies and Dakis you missed to complete your collection.
>>
>>148670
Of course. Have to keep things fresh, keep interest up.
>>
>>148665
That's why I said combinable and usable drops.
People will come grind items they need when they're running low on money and supplies to run harder dungeons.
Except they'll have to run the dungeon multiple times to get enough to make what they need.
This means more chances for them to fail, but the set up means they'll enjoy it instead of hating it.

After all, look at crafting in MMOs. This is -exactly- what those games do, and they have people addicted.

"Bah! Fine, stay in there you petulant monster! I'll have you boiled and made into-Oh, my King! Greetings! I am The Chef! My job here is to make food for your army and staff. Already their morale is up, yes? Also, if you give me any amount of money I can make meals for use within the dungeon, with the amount of money determining the quality of the meal. So, don't not be a cheap with it, eh? 10 Gold is enough for decent meal. Dungeon divers appreciate it."

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. It was nice meeting you."

"My pleasure, my King."

>>147720

>Mary combines some more runes. Stone and Water produces the Mud Slime. She immediately sets it to start dividing to see if she can exploit it for water and stone runes.

>Next she combines Comfy, Wood, and Fancy and gets the Cleric Plant. It can heal creatures or even adventurers and has a rather pleasant aura about it.

>Mary brings up the menu and begins altering the dungeon.

Alright... We have quite a few things now...
So, let's start filling this dungeon!

We have a few empty rooms that we can fill with monsters, loot, or even simple challenges so long as they don't need a builder. So let me know what you guys think we should add.

We should put cleric plant in the room before the final boss and have adventurers pay off they want to get healed by her. The room to the left of the throne room should have a chest with some money as loot to encourage exploration. (Therefore, we'll get that money back when adventurers ask for the healing.)

How about a simple "cross the water" room?

Except with a twist, instead of water we have a pool full of Comfy Slime? They'll enjoy drowning in them.
>>
>>148855
Actually that's a really good idea, better than mine. I was thinking they should look for the heals, but putting it behind a paywall is much better for us.
>>
>>148836
Commission the Chef for a Lasagna meal and see if you can convert it into a rune. Once you have the rune, combine it with the Stone rune! You'll be very surprised at the result!

Let's keep Curi at the entrance along with the baseball bat slime. I propose naming her "Ruth" after a famous baseball player.

It's a shame we can't use a miniboss yet, but that'll come in time!

Start planting chests in each room, as they get further into the dungeon start making the rewards more valuable. Gold and well cooked food are our best bet for now.
>>
>>148864
not every room, need to make them hard to get, just not impossible.
>>
>>148872
If we had the miniboss room, I would've planted the chests there, but we've got to make do with our slime army for now.
>>
>>148836

I wondering something... Can't we hire crafter who can make items like sword, armor and so on. So we can either equip our monster or using them as drops for adventures?
>>
>>148836
Ok, simple challenges huh, do the rooms have to have flat floors? cause fighting slimes on an inclined surface would be difficult... Also we should probably station the cleric plant just before the final boss basement just as a courtesy heal... as for loot, potions of some kind? we have infinite water runes and potions convert to water runes so maybe we could use water runes to make a few basic potions? or would that require an alchemist?
>>
>>148855
Yooo, I like this.
>>
>>148879
we probably need a builder to build a forge room to hire a smith.

>>
>>148903

>>
>>148855
Payment is fine for now, but once we make the dungeon larger we may wish to consider a free healing room - otherwise we might attract fewer adventurers on account of excessive difficulty.
>>
>>148855
what abut, instead of monetary payment, they have to leave something, this way they will be less offput and we still get some basic loot.
>>
>>148836
>>we can buy Chests
Well, the OBVIOUS thing to do is to Buy one,Rune it and use it to start making Mimics.Obviously.

Then you can make a challenge room thats full just chests. Some of them will just be regular empty chests, some of them will have goodies or something, and make all the rest mimics or full of slimes.
Gambling is addictive, exploit it.

>>
>>148836

Alright, so only cubes. That's a bit limiting. If you can use cubes to make blank spaces, I recommend creating a room with a series of platforms that adventurers must jump across, with slime girls on either side trying to spit water at the adventurer to make them fall off. At the bottom of the pit, use the aforementioned plan with filling the pit with slimes. Pull the "water" away when the adventurers fall then beat them with bats. Our lead batter should be named Ruth.

In one room having Ice Elementals on top of block towers would be ideal. Set free cubes over an ice floor, and configure the room such that they must slide these blocks into empty spaces in the floor using other stationary blocks to guide their path. Monsters can appear after or during. It's really up to you.
>>
>>149279
>Monsters can appear after or during.
During, and the floor is on a slight slant.
>>
>>143133
Bone phone?
>>
>>149279

Oh right, if you really want to mess with adventurers using game logic, take the platform room (probably a 4 by 4 arrangement of pillars) and have Curi be by the entrance and scurry across the platforms quickly in a completely absurd, over-complicated fashion.when the adventurers arrive to lead them into thinking they can't just hop straight across. The more platforms they hop, the greater chance they will fall and thus sustain damage.

>>149287

Slanting the room would make the ice block challenge undoable. However, I think that it should definitely be included in some room. Again, I'm not even sure Mary can make slants though, as those are not blocks. In lieu of that, making a series of blocks they have to climb to stop the rain of hail from above (generated by one or more ice elementals and a team of slimes) and having those blocks be made slick with ice would have a similar effect.
>>
>>149320
Goodnight idea but I dunno how we will make it easier to fall the more platforms you hop
>>
>>149340
More goo, obviously.
>>
>>149340

Well, think of it this way. Nobody is perfect. Everyone makes errors. And the more times you have to do something, the more likely it is you will fail at least once. This is especially true if you grow complacent. So, maybe after the first couple platforms, slick those remaining with goo (which won't effect Curie). If you want to be merciful, Curi hops on the safe path through, otherwise her goal is to give the adventures a feeling of confidence in safety following her which will then lead them into disaster.
>>
>>149342
Ooh, there's an idea if we get stuck here a while.
>Eventually summon a titanic Slime of some description
>Build a huge room around it
>Put the bulk of the last portion of the dungeon inside the slime
>The rooms seem to be filled with progressively more goo
>Until at last they exit into the huge Slime room and must defeat the Titan to proceed to their promised reward
The trick being we make this segment of Dungeon able to disconnect from the rest for slimy reasons.
I may be a tad tired.
>>
>>149366

>>148836

As for prizes, we probably don't need to be too stingy. Assuming the adventurers don't just quit mid-dungeon (can they do that?) then whatever gold you give them will just be given back when the boss wipes them. I'd say drop 5 gold in each ice elemental (freezing it inside of them so that when they are defeated, it drops). For one of the side rooms, I'd include a slime girl prepared to do Slime Girl Charades or So You Think You Can Slime?. If the adventurer plays along with a fun minigame and does well, give them anything from five gold to the ultimate prize, a home cooked meal! Limit one time per dungeon visit.

Also, test comfy plant's (I like the name Petal) massage abilities on you and your minions! You must be certain of comfy quality!
>>
>>149415
I like this train of thought, but just be certain that we have a net positive- remember, some adventurers WILL succeed in conquering our dungeon. We have to be prepared to take losses and budget accordingly.

After asking around it seems we won't lose anything on a permanent basis. Anything that dies in here respawns when the dungeon run is done, though some creatures may take longer to respawn than others.

>>149065
Hmm... Doesn't look like I can combine runes.

>>148879
"My King," The demonologist says, "In order to-"

"We need a Builder?"

"Correct, my King."

sigh.

Alright...

First thing's first... First room will be split in the center. By combining a Comfy and Water rune I have created a comfy slime. This one will bud and make smaller comfy slimes. Together they will form a moat in the room. A single rope will allow the Heroes to cross to the other side.

A mimic will be planted in that room as well. This mimic was created by making a chest, getting a container rune from it, and making a mimic from that.

Another actual chest was created to contain a cooked meal.

The next room has Cleric Plant. She will offer her healing services at 20 Gold for a full heal for the hero. The door to the right is locked and can only be opened by going to the left room. There they must complete the So You Think You can Slime Challenge. If they win they will get a chance to win some prizes and the key to the next room. If they try to attack the slime then Ruth will retaliate with her baseball bat.

When they go to the right room they will be greeted by the Ice Elemental. Defeating it lets you get another treasure chest filled with... Gold?

Then they die to the boss.

How does this sound?
>>
>>149473
Should be "Prizes or the key." Make them leave and re-enter if they want the prizes AND to advance. Higher chance of them dying in the earlier rooms.

Our puzzles were one of the only things that were considered good in our review, I think we're okay with traps for the time being, at least until we get a builder and more resources.

How does getting hug wrestled by a goo girl, then bonked with a bat count as a puzzle? That's all that happened before floor writing.

I would have loved to do that but when I say cubes I mean... well, I can only make cube shaped rooms. To do what you want I need a builder. Which seems to be a recurring theme in this.

Alright, now it has a chance to drop the key instead of being included with the prizes. But I'd rather not have them leave the dungeon to retry the game. They can play again to try and get it but at a price. Let's say 5G. Cheap enough that they won't even notice but just two tries offset the cost of a single good meal.

Alright, I'll put a small amount of money into the Ice Elemental. Hopefully it'll be a good fight.

>It's not long before the alert appears. Someone is entering the dungeon.

>Three Heroes enter, led by a familiar warrior.

"Are you sure we're in the right place?" A younger looking rogue asks.

"This is it!" The warrior says.

"The name isn't even the same..."

"These are the same coordinates. And the walls are that same beautiful shade of blue... And the fountain! Alright, next room should be where all those slimes are!"

>The Warrior leads the group ahead into the next room... Then pauses.

"What the..." She says. "This room isn't the same at all. Hmm... I told you they were good with the puzzles. Clearly we must clear the room by using the rope!"

>The warrior charges forward. The Mage holds out her hand.

"I don't think you should-" The Mage tries to say.

>But it's too late. The warrior leaps and grabs onto the rope. It seems that a slime got to it before hand and it's slickness makes the Warrior drop.

>She lands into a pool of comfy slime who quickly drag her into the cuddle pile.

"AVENGE ME!" She cries out.

>The Warrior is defeated.

"Hmm hmm..." The mage looks at the rope and the pool of slime. "Okay."

>She casts a spell and lifts the Rogue up and over the pool. She then moves herself across the same way.

>At the other side the rogue is about to open the chest left there when the Mage stops him.

"Don't do that, dear. That's a mimic. You can tell by the way the chain is bent."

"Oh!" The rogue stops himself. "I wouldn't have even noticed that. You're so smart."

"Fufufu~"

Damn...
They're actually doing well.

I can change the next room right now before they go in. Minor stuff like adding or taking out troops.

Or should I just let them go on?
>>
So, just theorycrafting a miniboss room here for when we actually get a builder:

We can make a square room above the boss room; with a large, flat, square platform held above the room by the bridges. The brown area is mud slime, which won't impede the Knight Slime but will impede adventurers while they fight it. Or, they could fight near the edge/on the bridges and risk getting knocked into the boss room by the Knight Slime.
>>
>>149687

Let them go on.
>>
>>149687
Make spitting slimes with double water runes and have them take out the caster

"Geek the mage first."
>>
>>149687
Damn, that mage is good, we need to do something against her, if we want to kill them.
>>
>>149687
Hnnnnnnngh that mage

>>
>>149687
Don't mess with the natural order, they're bound to fuck up somehow!
>>
>>149687

Let them go, it will be interesting how it will go.

By the way... is the warrior still alive or dead? Defeat don't always mean they got killed.
>>
>>149687
A counter ticking down on a wall with a button beneath it that resets it! Nothing actually happens if it hits 0, it just resets on its own, but dare they find out?

Start it off at 20 rather than 10 though, we don't want to stress them out too much.
>>
>>149687
Mage should definitely be our target. put out a hit order to your minions.
>>
>>149687
Can we put an "Illusory wall ahead message"
and an "amazing spell ahead" message in front of a random wall? The mage might get distracted.
>>
>>149718
Probably sent back to her home. Not a bad way to go really.
>>
>>149650

Order the mud slime to collapse in the corner of the room with the ice elemental, doubling up enough to look inconspicuous. The ice elementals job is to call their attention forward so the mud slimes can rush up from behind. Her dress tells me she's someone who takes pride in her personal appearance and being unruffled. Let's ruffle her shit.
>>
>>149728
>>149687

Wrong fucking thing to reply to. Also, set a message "tough enemy ahead" but only after they come back to that door with the key.
>>
>>149687
Next time, we'll hide the chain with a barrel or something.
It's not unfair, since they can break it by rolling through.
>>
can the slimes go up walls and/or stay in the cieling?
>>
>>149687

Also, damn, we have multiple slimes in the dance room, right? Have Curie multiply and force both the mage and rogue to dance, preferably in an embarrassing and intimate way after making sure they work up a good sweat. Mages have poor stamina.
>>
>>149687
We need to train our minions better. Get the mimics to ACTUALLY MIMIC THINGS PROPERLY DAMNIT.
>>
>>149741
Also we need a good way to deal with mages and other adventurers who aren't thick as two short planks.
>>
>>149741
But that would be artificial difficulty! The dungeon has to be fun, not just hard, otherwise people won't come back.
>>
>>149759
>artificial difficulty
Oh god you're giving me PTSD flashbacks to when I still read /v/
>>
>>149741
Better idea: move the chain of the real chest so it looks like a mimic. People will go "Two mimics? That can't be right."
>>
>>149756

Puzzle rooms that depend on physical ability as much as brains?

For example, we get a large room and add a big slope/slide thing to it, with the entrance on the high side, and the exit high on the wall of the low side. At the bottom of the low side is a pit. We make a channel so we can have an infinite comfy slime slide.

Hanging from the ceiling are ropes. Half are actually mimics. Adventurers must grab onto a rope and Tarzan swing to the other end. Grabbing onto a mimic rope results in bad things.

Oh, add a pressure plate to the front of the entrance, so that as soon as the adventurers step into the room, they either fall by trapdoor onto the slope, or a bin of slimes fall on them and pull them down, forcing them to grab the ceiling rope or die by comfy.

Done. Mud Slime is in position... Now we wait.

>The pair move ahead into the next room. Cleric Plant is there. She smiles and greets the two.

"Welcome, brave Heroes. I am here to offer you a moments reprise before you face the dangers ahead. For a small price I can restore your health or stamina. Is there anything you require of me?"

"Uhm... N-no thanks..." The rogue says.

"Nothing at all?"

"We are quite alright," The Mage adds.

>They enter the room to the left. They spot the slimes in the room and ready their weapons.

>Then, Curi strikes a dance pose. A message appears on the floor explaining the rules to the room. Both the heroes put away their weapons and stand, ready to mimic the slime.

>What kind of dances should Curi make them do?
>>
>>149793

The Macarena.

Curi begins with slow, innocent dance moves, increasing the tempo until eventually dividing. The adventurers must then independently follow their slime dance partners, who will begin dancing independently, but eventually being interacting with each other.

>>

I almost want them to win, if after a hard fight. It creates a good experience. Also, if their reward from that fight is just slightly less or more than another round of healing, we can probably sell them on healing and a meal. Then they fight the boss.
>>
>>150295
>So, if they win, they win?
No, that's when we audit if their combat practices and outfits were OSHA-compliant and fine them out of their hard-earned cash.

Either that or we use the occassion to hire them for PR and have them advertise the dungeon as well as our selection of weeb products for adventurers to buy.
>>
>>150306

The healing fountain should really become a hub and place of services you just can't turn down. Deep tissue massage, cold drinks, hot food.

Before I forget, we need to order a fancy bottle of olive oil from the chef as well as veggies. Thus armed with a Plant, Oil, comfy rune, and possibly a water rune and fancy rune, we can make a perfumed oil dispensary and masseuse.
>>
>>150348
No, that's the main room.
>>
>>150348

Later on, when we have more rooms to spare, I'd suggest putting a treasure room off every main room after the first one in the boss rush. Some may be trapped, of course, but each room only opens if you complete the previous rooms in series without retreating to the healing fountain.
>>

She's stuck there for a business purpose, and never clocked out. If labor laws are keeping people from getting her out, then by law she's earning overtime the entire time she's there.
So that's 40 hours of base pay, PLUS 128 hours of overtime pay for every week she's stuck there.
If a decent meal is 10g, then minimum wage is probably 5g/h. An auditor is specialty work so she should be pulling down a lot more than that, but we can do the math for that.

TL;DC: If we assume the overtime rate is 50% over base, then they're going to have to pay her 1160g/week. Unfortunately, at the rate she's going the dungeon's value is going to exceed her owed back pay, so her employers are not going to let her keep it.
>>
>>150188
>>150196

If you want the most effective strategy for taking down the duo, keep in mind that the mud slime should have already split one, if not several times. The strategy is then to have three open fire on the mage as another one or two bullrush the rogue and pin him. The mage can't risk casting magic at the rogue to free him, and more importantly, will be distracted for a moment. At that point, the ice elemental rushes her and finishes the job.

This would depend on how far away our boss is, and whether or not we can arrange for transportation of some description. All of our minions are a part of the dungeon; we can send them outside, but they don't want to stay out for more than a week.

Speaking of sending minions out though, after these heroes have finished dying for us, we might wanna ask the librarian and/or the demonologist about how to go about getting a new telecom, and maybe schedule a trip for one of them.

We need to make sure our new asset here stays ours, as far as I can gather the bank currently owns our dungeon, or is at least in the process of forclosing the dungeon, in our position we may be able to pick up the short sale on this dungeon for penny's on the dollar.

There is absolutely no reason to pay off the former kings debt, let them foreclose on the dungeon, it's not like we can go anywhere anyways. Given all of the conditions and the less than favorable appraisal we are going to send to the Bank we can be out from under the last owners debt for close to free, we just need to sure up that we get first dibs on the dungeon when it goes for sale.

it should be fine with our boss seeing as we are both closing the account we are working on, resolving it, and selling the property with all the assets in one fell swoop,
we can bribe/threaten our boss with legal action if he doesn't comply.

The hub room with the healing fountain should ideally have a new service available after each challenge adventurers should really want. Just danced your ads off? How about a deep tissue massage and a cold drink? Fought an ice monster? Who wants hot cocoa? Fought a mud slime? Laundry and a lovely, floral scented bath, all at a reasonable price.

I really fucking like this plan. Mary won't like it though; she doesn't want this dungeon and the only reason she's improving it now is because she can't leave, the people here are in a pretty miserable situation without her, and she needs to do something to pass the time anyway.

We need to make Mary want the dungeon first.

If she did that Mary ABSOLUTELY NEEDS to make SURE she uses and hires only competent workers. Most of those renovation show owners are being sued due to piss poor craftsmanship due to the contractors they use and more.

Might cost a bit more initially, but an unsatisfied customer can cost a LOT more in the long run.

"I... I won't go down... Not while she's watching!"

The warrior is going to be an easy way to farm for metal runes, but we really need the dosh to get a builder and have a miniboss room. It's guaranteed that the Warrior will keep coming back with a larger party. We should sell everything that we looted since the same party will probably come back but with better equipment. We need at least 500g for a builder.

Also, reviews!
>>
>>151749

I'll second this. With stone and water runes, we can get creative enough, but we need a builder.
>>
>>151713
Aww yeah, time to calculate.

And I do see the instakill boss potentially being a problem for future reviews. It also might spur on nutty adventurers who love a challenge.

By the way, since monsters who are kill respawn (with varying respawn times), if someone kills basement monster, how long will it take to respawn? If we replace it with another monster in that time will it not spawn back into its room?

["Better and better!" ***/*****
Warrior: Wow! So, after getting a party I decided to go and see the Dungeon of Pain again! So, friendly warning, they renamed to Slimecrown Citadel! And MAN did they earn that name! Off the bat I was killed by some rather vicious slimes!

It didn't feel all that bad, though!
I didn't even get to make it to the end this time so this is definitely a dungeon for people who like a challenge!

Only three stars but that's just cause I only got to the first room! I'm sure I'd give it more if I got to see the rest!

Will visit again!

"A Simple Trial" **/*****

Slimecrown Citadel is unique in it's water themes and usage of what is considered more of a vermin monster than anything else. It's sole trapped room was simple enough to overcome with a simple spell.

After getting over that hurdle I was greeted with a pleasant surprise. A plant creature was offering a healing service for a decent enough price. Not only was this available but it was also put right in the center of the dungeon for ease of access. I appreciate something so simple and it definitely helped out.

Another room contained a challenge that was quite the delight and a real workout for one of the magical persuasion. Very fun if you have a partner.

The next room was a bit more of a challenge with it's usage of rather constrictive slimes and a terrifying elemental. The creature was one step down from a miniboss and took a bit of work to defeat.

Sadly, the entire experience was brought down by it's rather lackluster end. My partner and I had but a moment before we were killed by some creature. With no chance to even get a scope of the creature we were fighting, we died. This bit of artificial difficulty mires down what was otherwise a very pleasant experience.

I give it two stars out of five. If you leave before the last boss room it might even be a 4.

"A Great Dungeon!" ****/*****
If you're ever looking for a nice dungeon to take a partner along to this is it! I went in not thinking I could finish it but thanks to my allies I made it all the way to the boss room! The boss was really tough!

But the one really cool thing about this was the dancing game they had off to the side. It was hard to do but... I really enjoyed myself.

Would visit again!]

Hmm. The reviews are a bit all over the place. But I think we can take a lot from this.

Now, let's see the items.

It looks like if I converted them all to gold or mana I would get a substantial amount. Easily 800 gold or more.

The equipment does offer me some unique runes.

The Black Cloth gives the Cloth rune.
Magic or Wood from the staff.
Fire or Explosive from the bomb.
Magic or Wind from the wands.
And Magic or Cloth from the Robe.
>>
>>151859
It's tough to say. Stuff that claims to be 'impossible' or 'perfect' or those kinda superlatives tend to either get amazingly popular or die out quick.
>>
>>151859

Not really. We just need to be multifaceted in the experience we offer. That couple had a blast with the slime dance off, and if we create a series of enjoyable games with a chance at prizes, everyone can be happy.
>>
>>151874
That's the thing; it either makes people try to win it to stand out or it's deemed as unfair and dropped on the side... there's no gray here, we either get the best of the best of adventurers or we get dust and a pat in the back.

We could make it optional? I think?
>>
>>151870
Runes won't give us dosh, so let's sell everything. I'm sure they'll come back, especially the Warrior and the Rogue, but they'll switch out the Mage for someone else I'm guessing. And if we have enough dosh, let's get that builder and a miniboss room.
>>
>>151902
That's what I'm thinking. Bonus Boss.
>>
>>151870
Calling it now. Scrap the bomb for an Explosive rune and then use that and a water rune to make a Slime. Reveal the results.
Assuming we need a water rune for a Slime. Otherwise, just the Explosive.
>>
>>151870

How much is each one worth? Ideally, we would like 800 gold for builder, mini-boss room, and extras. However, the magic rune could be incredibly useful, as could the cloth.
>>
>>151918

ALLAHU ACKBAR
>>
>>151870

>>
>>151918
Seconded. Im really hoping we can get the highest form of slime sometime.
>>
>>151914
Yeah, but that means we need a regular boss to take it's place, still seems the best solution so far... also have we tried chucking torches or other light sources into the basement to get a better look at the beast... also if we do get a different boss, maybe we could have any pit traps we make lead to the bonus boss basement.
>>
>>151914
>>151902
>>151870
Can we promote our miniboss to be a regular boss then? We would just need Royal Slime Knight to power up by giving them some more runes and better equipment. Maybe enhance their sword with a fire rune?

I definitely agree that the basement monster should be optional, it's only a matter of time before people stop coming because of the instakill.
>>
>>151918
say, if we have metal slimes and an explosive slime... could we have them combine to form a slime cannon?
>>
>>151969
>A collection of slimes in a Miniboss room
>Entrance Sign is labelled Slime Sisters
>Upon defeating all 3, they will merge into a Greater Slime
>One is Metal, one is Cloth, one is Explosion
>Fuse into the Slime Cannon and continuously split their bodies and just launch slime clones all over the room to overwhelm the enemy
>>
Want to mention, the basement demon has never been listed on our status screen.
This might mean on death it's gone.
Though on death it could also respawn in the barracks.
We don't want that thing to die.

> gold slime: water + metal + fancy

>>
Okay, We'll have to figure out what's enough for us to get our builder and probably a couple extras- I'm thinking whatever we sell, it has to equal out to 650 gold at least. That'll be enough to get us started with him. Whatever's left gets runified.
>>
Kinda surprised we aren't getting any weird minmax weirdos wearing odd armor coming in to try the new boss.
>>
>>151870
If adventurers continue to use the healing services we can guarantee a profit. Especially if we start raising the prices on the healing- maybe have it double every time they use it? Should we start allowing heroes to beat the dungeon, and include the monster in the basement as an Optional Boss?

I think we should try to get like 400 gold from the loot so we can get a Builder and create more interesting/challenging rooms.
>>
If we have infinite water runes, what items can we make out of them?
And how much gold would those items be worth?
>>
>>152023
We need to be worth their time. In short, they need to be assured of PHAT LEWTS and EPIC XP.
>>
>>152038
A mob that can instantly obliterate experienced adventurers would definitely offer pretty damn good experience.
>INB4 the mob in the basement is just a giant Mutant slime that has grown to Legendary status.
>>
>>151998
I was thinking slime rangers with varying combination depending on which ranger fuses with which with the cannon as the whole group combination with a standard slime (Ruth maybe?) holding the cannon formed metal slime with the explosive slime inside the cannon with a mud slime acting as the cannonball. he if any one ranger gets taken out there are other combinations such as armored suicide bomber Ruth (metal-bomb-water), Tank Ruth (mud as shock absorber with metal as armor) and bomb shot ruth who bats explosives formed by the mud and bomb slimes at opponents.
>>
>>152014
We still don't even know if slimes even give anything besides water yet, what if a bubbling magma slime just pops out another fucking water or something? Somebody needs to have our midboss knight and earth slime divide and see what happens.
>>
>>151870
Rune the bomb if we can afford a builder without it, place the Knight before it and leave some loot that includes some sort of light source when it is defeated.
Can we make a slime that cleanse stuff as a pet loot?

We might need to add more of the Rune we want to farm on top of the single Water Rune if we want to farm it. So Fancy farming might require a 1 Water + 3 Fancy slime or something in order to work.
>>
>>152135

What can we decompose royal jelly into? Also, in general, I imagine it's based on rune rarity. Fire, stone, water, and most base elements should be common. Higher order elements or rares might be less frequent or just not drop.

We should label the hard monster more fairly. Something like "5* Bonus Dungeon"
>>
>>152257

Chase the princess, storm the castle, defeat her knights in Chivalrous combat, and win a Grand Prize. This, after playing through a festival of fun challenges without. Attempt to take the dungeon, if you dare, but no fool would venture down there lightly.

As for runes though, I'd like to point out that they are not that dangerous. They just let us build interesting monsters and rooms. However, we are limited with the number of rooms we have, and the number and quality of monsters that can go in each.
>>
I'd say turn the staff, bomb, wands and robe into runes, scrap everything else.

You need to get at least 500 gold to hire that builder. If you need more gold, scrap the staff then the robe.
>>
>>152233
Problem is making Lily do it. That slime is a bit of a problem child.
>>
>>152447

Remember, we also need money for the mini boss room, and room improvements. We want at least 800 gold to throw around.
>>
So overall, it sounds like our gameplan is:

1: Get a builder.
2: Add more rooms with variations for combat and trap purposes.
3: Make a variety of slimes with what we have.
4: Denote the instakill boss as optional via sign or the sort.
5: Upgrade our Slime Knight to Final Boss status.

And we should be good for another experiment? Thoughts?
>>
>>152455

She needs a taste of the belt... Or salt. Either way, she needs to start cooperating.
>>
>>152496

Check the cost on a final boss room. We do not have enough to build even a fake. I say that plan is pretty good, but we leave the miniboss a miniboss and offer either a prize for beating it or a shot at the real boss.

It seems like the mini mud slimes have a chance of giving either water or stone with a higher chance of giving water.

Alright, how does this sound? If we rune just the Black Cloth set and the firebomb we'll get at least two new runes. If we sell the rest we'll gain 721 Gold for a total of 922 available.

We could also exclude the wand at a cost of 30 gold if we want to get either Air or Magic rune.

This will give us a lot of money to build but only a few runes.

But it's not like we're lacking on monsters.
>>
We need to find a way to play thematic/atmospheric music in each room to improve the ambiance of our dungeon. People seem to like the fancy soothing paint job.

>>
>>152525
A magic royal slime knight would sound cool.
>>
>>152496
>denote the instakill boos as optional via sign
It's not like they can't just do a 360 and walk away at literally any point in the dungeon. The entire point is to kill them, just put "Turn back now or risk instant death. Are YOU a bad enough dude?" or something above the door and let people blame themselves for not believing it.

>>152525
From hench forth have all slimes constantly dividing for rune farming unless intruders or instructed otherwise.
>>
>>152525
BUILD

Just get some new runes via the black cloth, firebomb, and wand. Convert the rest to gold and let's build a REAL dungeon.

Since the dungeon is going to be big and will have gold sinks placed in via merchants or minigames, we can probably allow heroes to Mary in combat and "beat" the dungeon. Let's leave the Basement Monster as an optional boss, so that we get better reviews.
>>
>>152552

I figured out as much. We should replace our omega-boss with something a bit more edible. We already have an ice elemental for a mini-boss so...

Ideas?
>>
>>152602
Their reward would simply be whatever loot they managed to obtain up to that point no? That's why we were encouraged to scatter loot around the dungeon. If we give them strong gear we might be able to fool them into thinking they can tackle the basement monster. That's a bit of a gamble though.
>>
>>152637
I was suggesting the super slime knight or perhaps the Royal Guard (with maybe a magical Lily providing occasional fire support?)
>>
>>152637

I mean, the ice bowl mentioned up in the thread, with spitting slime on the ledges and two ice elementals would be plenty scary.

Alright, runes made and gold gathered. We are rolling in the gold now!

Also I'm having all the slimes try to make extra runes. We are completely out of fancy but we're getting a fairly steady amount of water and earth.

Now, let's get some more units.

I'm sorry to disappoint you.

>The builder is a gruff man who complains about how he was fired from this place not too long ago. He quickly wanders off, muttering about improvements and where the heck his pillars went.

>Combining a Water and Explosive rune makes... A rather... Shakey slime.

I dub thee, Explodey.

Or maybe not.

>>152542
>Mary goes up to Lily and asks why she's not making more slimes to get Fancy Runes.

>Lily folds her arms and 'hmphs'. She's not being very cooperative.
>>
>>152758
We already have one dude, the Cook
Not like there's anything wrong with a cute boy
>>
So, how much is a mini boss room?
>>
>>152768
Lily, we will give you your own throne room if we has more fancy runes.
>>
>>152768
Commission the Chef to give Lily some cakes. Those Royal Slimes always love desserts. Let's add a new miniboss room on the basement floor along with a hallway and the stairways leading up to it. After the miniboss room, have that lead to the final boss.
>>
>>152767
We should figure out if we can set up traps (gas, special floor tiles, ect.) or monsters that can put a Silence/Seal effect on heroes, which should make their magic or special skills unusable for a period of time.
>>
>>152768
Stuff Lily in a small jar until she learns to behave.
>>
>>152768
Bully the lilly, then build a room for our mini boss.
>>
>>152768

why not explain to lily that now we have a builder we can create a room just for her, in exchange we will require the fancy runes she produces.

win - win situation, also we can leave the guard slime at the door.
>>
>>152788
You don't bully the tsundere, you feed them.
I vote for >>152783
>>
>>152768

Break out the belt.

Several minutes of condensed parenting later, explain to her that if she cooperates, we can make her more handsome knights and a beautiful throne room (miniboss lair), and that if she doesn't, there's plenty of salt in the kitchen we can melt her down with before starting over.
>>
Why not just ask her what she wants?
>>
>>152783
>>152789
Seconding both of these.
>>
>>152809
Because tsundere aren't honest about feelings and desires.
>>
>>152809
Because she won't just tell us what she wants, that's why.
>>
>>152796
You can't have a miniboss room right before a final boss. THere's gotta be stuff between them. I recommend puzzle rooms. Horribly annoying puzzle rooms that dump you into comfy slimes when you get them wrong.

Also the miniboss should combine that idea about lily behind an unbreakable glass wall thing we thought of earlier. You can either fight the night, or woo the princess. Good luck if you go with the latter.
>>
Say, random question, whats the level music for our dungeon again? Do we have a miniboss theme? No need for a final boss theme yet since they die to quickly to hear it but...
>>
>>152768

>>152768

>>
>>152836

>>
>>151870
Can we make slimes by combining unique runes with eater runes and the doing the divide and harvest trick?

Because if so, we can manufacture whatever runes we have en masse.
>>
>>152846
We have a builder. If he can't make a lever that opens a door what good is he? As for the wall thing we could just make a wall out of ice elemental. See how the person who tries to just break through and get the lever feels when it goes from miniboss fight to miniboss plus almost miniboss fight. Alternatively just have the Lily sit in the room. She'll flee if attacked. Then put the lever on the other side of a slime permeable gate. Lots of ways to tweak it.

"Look, Lily Slime, how about this?"

>Mary explains that Lily can have her own room (where the miniboss will be) and she will be given delicious sweet foods. In return, she must give slimes for fancy runes.

>>

It's really not that bad yet because we're just starting out. I mean, yeah, if it starts to be an issue down the line, then sure, we'll discipline her, but right now it's more amusing than irritating. We all know we can break her down if need be, which is exactly why we're being easy about it. The minute she starts being more trouble than she's worth, we'll go that route, but at the moment I at least feel it's unnecessary.

I had an idea for the basement monster:

You know what players like other than loot and killing stuff? Speculation and exploration! Like in MMOs, there's always bored high level players or curious lowbies who try and get into places that they shouldn't. Like GM Island in WoW, and various other zones that were under development.

We could bill the basement as some sorta off-limits area that's under construction/development. But at the same time, we can spin some fabrications or rumors to spread around the adventurer player base to fuel speculation and hype. Inevitably, there will be some intrepid explorers/exploiters who will try to explore the basement to see what is there, and will do all sorts of crazy trial-and-error shit to try and futilely survive just to find out what's down there. If an adventurer lives long enough to see the monster somehow, that also gives Mary a chance to gather data on the monster!

However, this may only work if the dungeon surges in popularity, and if mechanics behind the dungeons aren't really well understood by adventurers.
>>
Looking back through the reviews we got on our dungeon, and thinking back to how wildly different the dungeon was between when it was the Demon King's Dungeon of Pain, when the hero first walked in, and when the hero party discovered the "Slimecrown Citadel", I keep coming back to the idea that maybe we should connect with dungeon-divers that come to see the place. The hero seemed a little confused by the drastic changes we made.

Maybe if we communicate that the dungeon is under new management by a person that's kinda new to this, maybe the hero will start actively drumming up visitors for us, and perhaps even get us in contact with other dungeon keepers.
>>
>>153170
Do we have any kind of advertising?

Because we should!
>>
>>153072

HQR was terrible though, and not written by Larro.
>>
>>153185
A) It wasnt terrible.
B) It was written by Larro

You know that it stands for Hero Quest Rena, right?
>>
>>153170

He seemed very happy with the changes though. Even the veteran adventurer was impressed and enjoyed herself, up until the end, of course. More than likely, I think we'll see her again, for dancing if nothing else.
>>
>>153189

Unfortunate acronym overlap. HQR also stands for Hollow Quest Redux. Hero Quest Rena, as I understand it, was a good read.
>>
Maybe when the dungeon is big enough, we can put a cleric plant in the same room as a miniboss. Then the heroes make a choice: deal with the cleric to make beating the miniboss easier, or grit their teeth so they can pay the cleric for healing afterwards, and not have to go all the way back to the previous one through respawned enemies.
>>
>>153184
>>153190
>>153170
I was also thinking that maybe, if and when traffic picks up, we could confide in a regular or two about the boss monster in the basement and how it's there because we don't know what the fuck it is and we can't get rid of it.

Telling literally nobody about it isn't gonna do us much good, because people will eventually just stop entering the boss room because it's too hard, and it's more profitable for them to just leave.
>>
>>153210

If there's a way to send a personalized-private response to a review, I'd like to send it to the mage. Something to the effect of "We apologize that the previous visit was not entirely to your satisfaction. We know the final boss as it stands is not in-line with the difficulty of the surrounding dungeon and that jarring transition does not impart a smooth experience from start to finish. The monster is a relic of sorts from the previous owner, and we are doing our best to create experiences entirely independent of its existence for those seeking a more reasonable challenge. We sincerely thank you for your patronage thus far and your feedback and hope for your continued business in the future."

"PS: As you seem to be a woman of experience, if you happen to know of any adventurers who crave the sort of relentless challenge this boss offers, please tell them. Frankly, we'd be reasonably happy to be rid of it, ourselves."
>>
>>153210
>>153219

Knowing that is probably not an option, though. Put a giant skull on the door when we have the funds and a warning plaque advising the adventurers this is a challenge not to be taken lightly. Also, mention the rewards for beating it, namely free massage therapy, spa treatment, and a redeemable daily meal for life, as well as a growing gold jackpot (say add 10gp for each adventurer slain over the course of our ownership).
>>
>>153222

Slain by the boss specifically, to clarify.
>>
>>153219
>>153222
I like the idea of shooting her a message, but I feel we shouldn't be quite so professionally "we have everything under control" about this. If we can keep it professional, then by all means we should, but regardless of how professional we sound we should give her the information that we don't know what the hell this thing is that the Demon King left here, and we don't know how to get rid of it.
>>
>>153226
I like that idea a lot. Now we're running this shit like a casino or a lottery which is exactly the kind of psychological baiting we need if we want to keep bringing in business.
>>
File: cassette-tapes.jpg (295 KB, 1500x1000)
295 KB
295 KB JPG
I feel we should have more prizes for the regular challenges.
Like, if a repeat visitor passes the "You Think You Can Slime?" with a Flawless Rating they get a mixtape.

For example:
"Inspire Courage Mixtape vol. 001".

The tapes are limited offer/amount, so only few can have them. The magical properties don't carry over to copies.
>>
The biggest problem with all of these "loot" opportunities is that as soon as they die at the end of our dungeon, they just lose all of it anyway. If they actually care about them, they are going to play it cautiously and just leave the dungeon, in which case we are going to lose income pretty quickly.

The solution, of course, is to make the dungeon even more lethal when you try to go through it backwards.
>>
>>152901

I think we seriously need to lock down the basement for now, it seems that mysterious monster is too freaking powerful for average adventures. Alternative we turn the basement as "Secret Room".
>>
>>153329
We've already got a plan for that, I think. Someone before mentioned getting a normal boss for the dungeon, and keeping the basement monster as a secret extra boss.

Additionally, the entrance to the basement should be covered with a warning that "The Slimecrown Citadel management honestly recommends against entering this room. You're almost certainly going to die if you fight this thing."
>>
>>153319
Hmm, maybe make it so you get to fight the basement boss if you retreat?
>>
>>153319
Well we can't win them all. If we did people would wise up and stop showing up. The loot stuff is an investment. Gotta spend to earn. We want some people to walk out as victors, so we can continue to sucker the majority.
>>
I had an idea. The color orange has been proven to induce people into feeling hungrier and eating more. I think we can agree that fatty and fried foods tend to make people more lethargic after consumption. So right before our boss room we set up our banquet hall. It appears to be another consideration by us, similar to the cleric plant which will help gain us more positive reviews, when in actuality it's meant to soften them up for the boss if they let their gluttony get the better of them. Hell we can even offer alcohol and see if anyone is dumb enough to take the bait.
>>
>>153436
Slip a few debuffs in some foods, eh? And even if they spot it, it just makes them think the food that doesn't have dubuffs in isn't there to lull them into a false sense of security.

On an unrelated thought, how about having one of the future optional routes in the dungeon be horror and fright themed. Two words: clown slimes.
>>
>>153440
I don't like the idea of actually poisoning the food. It would be an insult to the chef's talent and if the hero's feel cheated they would leave negative reviews. Offering them the chance to defeat themselves by preying on their vices is a different matter however, cause the only person they could possibly get upset with is themselves. Are you familiar with the way major casinos offer comps on things like free meals or drinks when they notice they have a big spender in the house. The idea is that you make them feel like they're winning while they are in fact being robbed blind. Incentivizing them to play and spend more, because really 16 bucks on a lobster dinner doesn't mean shit after you've taken them for 500. Ya follow?
>>
Did we ever ask what runes were used to summon the thing in the basement? The demonologist did summon it herself right?
>>
>>150565
>forced vacation
Perfectly legal, assuming there's good medical reason for it or you get paid at least where I live. Neither of those conditions is true.

When we get out of here, quit, sue the FUCK out of the company and demand all back-pay as well as damages for emotional distress suffered due to illegal confinement. Remember, your workplace has a duty to ensure that you are safe at work, unless you specifically sign a document to the contrary. I'm pretty sure that Mary wouldn't have signed something saying "I'm perfectly fine with a dungeon lord forcing me to take his place", even if it was written in horribly convoluted legalese.

...we need to take a look at the contract.
>>

Need to make a large maze room, with mimic doors and mimic treasure chests.

The maze is to have roving bands of slimes. If the party gets spotted by any slime, all the slimes are to charge their location (by our direction?). The party needs to find a key to get to the next room, but the key is also guarded by some elementals.

How can we top the dancing room? Our goal should be to make it increasingly harder to get to our "final boss."
>>
>>154450
Hell, you don't even need to have many enemies in a maze. They might actually be unnecessary frustration.
If we make a maze it should just have a plethora of illusory walls in front of pits so that any hero who spots the illusion confidently walks through only to fall.
It could also have illusory walls cast on top of real walls for more shenanigans. I think our target audience at this point appreciates the shenanigans so let's work with that in mind.
>>
I say we make a tournament later on once we get more fame.
We have them pay a small fee for some awesome loot, but we would make more than the cost of the prize with the entrance fee, healing fees, and even restaurant traffic, plus we could even loot the corpses.

Guys, we should talk with Demonologist about setting Cleric Plant and Curi as non-combatant. IE can't attack and can't be attacked.
Failing that, we need to make sure some mean adventurer doesn't beat Cleric (Clarisse?) after healing to get their money back.
>>
To protect the cleric, we could set up magical traps and mimics. Possibly have her store the money in a mimic that will become hostile if they try to get the money out

have a room with a single winding path that are actually panels in a board game ala the DragonQuest vidya series. you can put in all kinds of things like fight encounters, gold, traps, even a space or two for Mary to deploy her dreaded Audit spell. need magical barriers to prevent them from just flying to the end though...
