It's been... A year, you think, since the world as you knew it abruptly came to an end. The sky burned as mankind's greatest achievements tumbled to the ground and the earth cracked, shattered by armored boots that left nothing but death and destruction in their wake. Thousands... millions of people died in just the first three weeks as the invaders shurgged off everything that we threw at them. We sacrificed much just to buy ourselves days, then hours, then simply minutes. Soon, the satellites that had barely kept us in the fight started going out, one by one.

You, however, were one of the survivors. Whether it was a blessing or a curse... well, that's a question that's kept you up at night more times than you can remember by now. You were more than just a survivor, once. You sigh, shaking your head, as you...

You put your rifle away, ducking back behind the cover of the rubble. It'd been a trying couple of weeks, lately. While there's been little to no enemy activity lately, food has gotten somewhat scarce, water's and...

Argh.

You sweep your hair back, taking a deep breath. Panicking now won't help at all. And yet...

As you set your rifle aside, you can't help but go back to the photo. Slowly, almost methodically you unfold it, carefully smoothing out whatever wrinkles it may have.

In it, you can see...

[ ]A young man, holding what seems to be a heavily pregnant woman in his arms and smiling, taken in front of a brand new house.
[ ]A young girl, smiling cheerfully and standing surrounded by a man in a military uniform and a woman, whose similarity to the young girl can't be ignored.

You can't help but smile at the photograph. It's been so long, and yet you still recall every single moment of that day. How Emily almost fell down the stairs while moving her azaleas to the first floor, how Jim and you had rushed to help her... He'd joked about how that was just the perfect moment for a pic and well... here you were. Years later and Jim was gone in Iraq, and Em...

Tiny drops of water cover her face. As you look up you feel the cold, annoying drizzle of the first summer rains slowly dripping down your face. You sigh, carefully folding the picture away and putting it back into your jacket.

"Sarge? I hate to intrude, but... Uh... Well, there's new deployment orders. This time, from High Command, apparently." Stewart makes an emphasis on the last couple of words, looking away to try and give you some privacy. "They say it's urgent."

[ ]"Don't worry about it, Stewart."
[ ]"Seems the fuckers only remember us when they need cannon fodder, eh?"

Stewart smiles wide, and lets out a low, hearty chuckle. "You're damn right about that, Sarge. Filthy SoB may change, but they somehow stay the fucking same." he manages to mutter out in the middle of fits of coughing. It sounds bad...

"Anyway, as to where we're going..." You can see the smile fade from his face, as he scratches the back of his head. "We're getting recalled. Apparently, they've deemed everything east of the Mississipi... undefendable" he seems to spat out the last word, with disgust. "So they're having everyone fighting in Illinois pull back to Fort Riley, to try and set up a defense line."

He shakes his head, tiredly.

"We probably aren't gonna make it out of this one, Sarge."

[ ]"Man the fuck up, Stewart. I don't recall seeing your balls fall to the pavement on our way here.
[ ]"Hey, we've made it out of worse scrapes before, haven't we?
[ ]"Fort Riley? But what about the people in the East Coast? They're not just gonna abandon them like that, are they?"

You have like 2 or 3 players, which is normal for a new quest. Especially so for a new QM.

If you really do want more of a crowd, you could try continuing in 10 - 12 hours to get the time when most Americans are awake. This doesn't really guarantee more players, though.

In my opinion, you shouldn't stop and lose momentum so early on in your quest.

Stewart stares at you, dumbfounded for a second, before simply smiling and shrugging. "Ah, good old Sarge. Glad to see you're holding up, sir."

"And yes, they're leaving them behind, for now, at least. We... don't have the men to hold it, we don't have the resources, we don't have the yadda, yadda, yadda. You know how the fuckers can get." He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I can't fucking beli-"

He's suddenly cut off by the two of you being blown into the air. Everything seems to slow down, as your eyes try to adapt to the sudden brightness... and then you hit the floor, punching the air out of your lungs.

Dazed, you look around, trying to make out your attacker through the smoke...

And then you see it. A truly massive figure, at least 12 or 13 feet tall, its face a terrifying, snarling mask, a mockery of what seems to be a wolf's face, its limbs ending in crooked claws, crackling with electricity.

It breathes heavily, looking around the room until it looks eyes with you.

"HrnnnnnnnnnnraaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" it roars out, as it begins charging forward... only to be suddenly stopped by a blast of shrapnel, hitting it square in the face.

"THE FUCK ARE YOU ASSHOLES WAITING FOR?! GET IN THE FUCKING ROBOT ALREADY, YOU SHITHEADS!" you hear a young, female voice, distorted by the helmet as she keeps firing, trying to keep the metal abomination at bay...

You rush torwards your XPP, still dazed from the hit...

Still dazed from the impact, you take the pin off one of your grenades...

"HEY, FIDO! CATCH THIS, YOU UGLY MOTHERFUCKER." you yell at it, throwing it right at its face...

And for a second, nothing happens. The grenade simply bounces off the abomination's metal hide, falling inert to the ground. You can almost feel the snide stare the thing gives you as it turns to you and picks up the grenade, mockingly.

It then proceeds to blow up right in its face, shrapnel and metal hitting it right in the face. While it doesn't seem to hurt it much, it does leave it distracted enough that you'd have a safe run to your exo...

Fuck it, it's now or never.

You hold onto your rifle, sprinting forward with the speed that fear gives men as the metal monster takes a hand off its mangled face, and with a closed fist, aims it at your general direction.

Servos whirr as the armor on its forearm retracts and two massive autocannons spring to life, whirring as they begin their firing cycle, a metal storm of death bursting forward from its arm as it fires wildly at the floor, the walls, and everything inbetween, trying to follow you by ear and missing you by sheer luck more than a couple times.

It is then that you hear another, different gun fire, as the high pitched shriek of Stewart's M249 comes to life, shots bouncing off the mechanical wolf's armor and drawing its attention away from you.

"DON'T WORRY, SIR! ME AND JAN GOT THIS." he yells, over the roar of his fully automatic machine gun.

[ ]"Don't be an idiot, Stewart! Just get to cover!"
[ ]"I SWEAR TO GOD, YOU DICKHEAD!"
[ ]"Just buy me five more seconds!"

You dash forward, your heart pounding in your chest as you finally reach your Exo. While the damage from earlier battles still show in it, it should be enough to at least push that thing back...

You jump into it with the skill of a professional, systems coming online and the pink, dim light of its several floodlights flicker into life. You take a deep breath and...

[ ]Lift up the integrated autocannon, revving it up for combat.
[ ]Pump your combat shotgun, ready to discharge it right into that thing's face.
[ ]Check your Sidewinder rifle, to make sure its Armor Piercing ammunition is fully operational.

"I swear to God, that guy always has to do something stupid..." you mutter to yourself, finally encased from head to toe in armor.

Your exoskeleton, even by the standards of what you work with, is massive. A behemoth of servos, pistons and plating, it stands easily over 6'6"tall. You feel the familiar weight of the massive autocannon it comes equipped with, lifting it into the air. While it has low armor penetration, the massive fire rate more than makes up for it. Lunging forward, your steps reverberating as the floor is cracked under your weight, you lift up your gun and fire away, roaring a challenge at the monster, who barely has time to try and protect its head with its arms.

"Hey, Fido... Come get your bone, you piece of shit."

>Apologies for the delay, finals came up when I least expected them to.

Your autocannon roars in defiance, whirring to life and spitting a stream of white hot lead right at the metal abomination in front of you. You can't help but notice that, after a while, pieces of its armor begin falling off at the sustained damage as it drops to its knees, barely even trying to protect itself anymore. It's definitely against the ropes now...

Or so you think. There's suddenly a flash, as massive thrusters burst to life out of the thing's back, illuminating the dark, empty room as it lunges forward, charging you through the hail of fire and slamming against you, smashing your suit through concrete and rubble.

ALARM signs pop all over your HUD, as you can see your ARMOR dropping rapidly. You punch and flail at the thing, but it seems to be no use...

You grit your teeth, forcing your suit to react. Using your last ounce of strength, you hold firmly onto that fucking thing as you try to find firm grounding, your servos whirring and screeching in protest at the massive strain they're being put through...

Slowly, it seems whatever was propelling the monster forward begins to run out of fuel and you grasp the opportunity. You pull at the thing, and twisting your hips, begin tossing him over your shoulder. And then, there's a crack. You can't help but yell out as you feel your leg pop out of its socket under the pressure and the weight as one of the servos finally goes out.

Your vision goes blurry with pain, and all you can hear is... is the thing's mad cackling. It's laughing at you.

No. Fuck this son of a bitch. You roar in defiance as you finish the throw, and there's a rather satisfying crack as the monster hits the ground and you see one of its wrist mounted gun break under the pressure, sparking with current...

And for a minute, time slows for a crawl as it seems something[/] suddenly hits Fido right across the damn face, exploding into a burst of flame and shrapnel. Soon, several projectiles follow, as the room becomes a roaring inferno. You try to crawl away, but you're getting weaker and weaker, grasping at the holes you made in your way in as a last ditch attempt, hoping someone will come before you finally pass out.
