Hello And welcome to the Shadowrun quest !

Shadowrun is a science fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in a near-future fictional universe in which cybernetics, magic and fantasy creatures co-exist. It combines genres of cyberpunk, urban fantasy and crime, with occasional elements of conspiracy fiction, horror and detective fiction.

The title is taken from the game's main premise – that corporate espionage runs rampant in a near-future setting. A shadowrun – a successful data theft or physical break-in at a rival corporation or organization – is one of the main tools employed by both corporate rivals and underworld figures.

I will use such a system to create your character, but thankfully for you, it does not require any knowledge of the system for players ! All character creating decisions will be made through backround choices so don't worry. I'll just write in the end a run down version of your dice pool and how the rolls system works.

So first thing first, choose your race. After the Awakening in 2012, multiple genomes have been expressed through the Return of magic. While HUmans are still the dominant species, all kinds of creatures pupulate the world.
First important choice is
>Metahuman. Includes "humanoid" species such as Elves, humans, dwarves and orks. They are most widely accepted, and you can mostly walk on the street of the spawls without catching too much attention
>Metasapient. Contains "inhuman" species that have nevertheless recognized as intelligent. Examples are Naga, centaurs, or even AI. WHile certainly more powerful in certain fields than metahumans, not only are highly exotic and rare, but also the target of bigotry, corporate research and the like.

This board is pretty dead Ain't it ? Oh well!
There are many kinds of metasapients to choose from!
>Naga Naga are giant serpents, usually around 10 meters in length, that are found throughout the world and tend to resemble the dominant snake species of their homelands. Despite their intelligence, Naga were not recognized as sapient for many years following their discovery in 2013. Indeed, many security corporations caught Naga and trained them as security animals, not realizing that their captives were studying as much as being studied.
The Naga used this underestimation of their intelligence to their advantage - as Naga were retired from security service (or simply escaped on their own), they returned to their homelands and relayed everything they knew about metahuman society (including a near-complete understanding of many metahuman languages) to their fellows. They currently have founded a small state in Angor Wate, where they are worshipped as gods from the local metahuman population.

The Centaur (Equus sagittarius) has been gene-typed to the Equus horse family, but debate continues as to both the origins of the Centaur and its sentience. Like the Centaurs of myth, the lower half resembles that of a large horse, but the upper half resembles a humanoid with humanoid arms ending in three-fingered hands with opposable thumbs. They are native to Greece, Macedonia and southern Albania. They are uniquely sensitive to magic, and can easily search for things within their native environment, suggesting an extrasensory perception of sorts. They display advanced social structure and behavior and even rudiments of language and tool-usage, proving that they are a sentient species.
> A Sasquatch (Pesvastus pilosis) is a large furry humanoid that was declared a sentient species by the United Nations in 2042, although many nations had officially declared it sentient before then. They stand almost 3 meters tall and weigh approximately 300 kilograms, with black to dark brown body hair growing to gray and silver tips as they age. They are widely-known to have the ability to mimic almost any sound with their versatile vocal cords. Despite this mimicry, the Sasquatch seems to be unable or unwilling to learn or use a spoken language. Instead, most urban-adjusted sasquatches use some form of sign language.
Shapeshifters are supernatural versions of several species of normal animal, born with the ability to assume a human form.

>Shapeshifters are intelligent (as in human-level intelligent), and can learn human languages and customs. How inclined they might be to follow those customs, however, is likely a matter of personal preference. They can also learn the ways of magic. Despite their ability to learn human customs, shapeshifters' animal upbringings endow them with all the instincts - and the resulting unpredictability - of an animal of their species. Contrary to the legends of such creatures as werewolves, shapeshifters' transformations are not governed by the lunar cycle. However, they are quite vulnerable to silver. In their human form, shapeshifters retain some vestige of their animal nature, making them easy to spot if you know what to look for.
>Digital intelligences. After the Second Crash, a large number of AIs came into being. They vary in complexity from nearly-feral guard programs which have developed only the most rudimentary self-awareness to complex alien intelligences with incomprehensibly far-reaching goals. These new entities - at least the ones who communicate with metahumanity - prefer the term "Digital Intelligences," because they do not view themselves as 'artificial.' Some metahumans attempt to compromise and call them "Synthetic Intelligences" instead.

Naga are magically active so they can choose between:
>Magician. Run on the mill mage. Summon and banish spirits, cast spells, alchemy etc
>Adept: Use magic to enhance your physical, social or mental capabilities. You can't cast spells or the like, but you will be one of the best in the field you choose to specialize.

Majority of the are belongs to the NAN (Native american Nations), a loose lliance of tribal nations. UCAS (United Canadian and Amercian States) on the east, and Tir Tairngire, a nation of elves to the west.
>Central and South America. Mexico and the northern part of the lower continent Belongs to the totalitarian state of Aztlan, home of the Mega-corporation Aztehnology. To the south dominates Amazonia, an awakened nation and and one of the few countries to have a dragon as head of state. Located in the northeast of South America, Amazonia territory spread over the Orinoco and Amazonian basin and the Brazilian plateau. Those two countries have a long history of conflict with each other
>Africa, The continent of Africa in the Sixth World is depicted as a volatile mess of changing borders, with a few havens of stability . Most small central Nations have dissolves to a NAN-like union named Congo Tribal Lands.
>Europe is much unchanged border wise, but France has become a a haven for stange metaspecies, Germany is under the firm grip of Saedder Krupp, a megacorp run by the mysterious dragon Lofwyr. >Imperial Realm of Japan. After the return of magic Japan turned inwards, transforming to a xenophobic monarchy, and exiled all non-humans to a large island south. The rise of the three great Japanese mecacorps, along with public reforms of the last two rulers has seen a reduction in traditionalism and public acceptance of metahumans. Currently world first on GDP (and suicides).
> The Indian union. After the dissolution of the People's republic of China, India extendend protection to the southern provinces from the bloody conflicts inland. This later extended to west states during the Eurowars, with a treaty being signed in 2053 to create the IU. Latest addition recently was the Naga kingdom of Angor Wat after a referendum.Largely dominated by japanacorps.

Hong Kong it is ! Excuse my following setting rambling to follow, but its important.

In the SR world there is something called a System Indentification Number, or SIN for short. Its basicaly a string of numbers and letters that are created by a complex algorithm that contain every bit of information about you. From physical traits to what kind of coffee you prefer.

SIN is mainly granted by nations and corporations. You need to have two parents who also have a SIN to get a national SIN or work in a corp to get a corporate one. Without a SIN you are essentially off the grid. Can't vote, can't make large transactions, or work in any upstanding place. But it also means you are very difficult to track. Hong Kong does not issu SINs to Naga, So you have two options.
> Sinless
> Limited Corporate SIN ( guard, nagas are used by Corps as security personel)

Very Well ! Background now begins !
You were born into a Yakuza compound that was basically a Naga equivalent of a puppy mill, to sell young specimens to corps or clients. You were sold to.
> Miss Shizu, an old Japanese landlord of an apartment building in the suburbs. How she afforded the price is a mystery
> Alina Knight, daughter of the multibillionaire CEO of Ares Macrotechnologies. You were fancier and more useful than a pony.
> Kane, a legendary pirate of the Atlantic. Bought you by accident while drunk.
> You were not bought. You were stolen ! During a hit by shadowrunners on the Yakuza facility, one of the team members had a soft hearted moment and pocketed your egg.

You were born and raised in the heart of an AAA corp, a corp not only allowed extraterritoriality, but with a place in the corporate court, the most powerful governing body on the planet. And you were raised with one mission :Protect the daughter of Damien Knight. You are one of the many layers of defense protecting this girl, just a seemingly exotic pet.

You are in fact sentient, but the pinkskins don't seem to know that. They considered you an animal to be reared and trained for a purpose. That was annoying, but you don't think they would take kind to your concerns about that.

You have managed over time to learn the language they spoke, and practiced it yourself while alone. Despite a slight lisp, you could be understood.

While the girl was scared of you at first, she is now far more accepting of your presence, even affectionate sometimes. Only one that isn't treating you like a beast.

It was 2nd of December. Thankfully your massive terrarium was heated as always. You lazily look at the luxurious room on the 36th floor of the Ares owned skyscraper. Alina is currently looking through her commlink , projecting 3d images of dresses and swipes between them lazily. Gathering your courage, you peek out from the door and utter your first words to a human.

"We have it easy. We jussst sssshed excesss sskin instead of getting more". Humourous observation. Tantamount in the beginning of human communication.

" Heh, you tell me " She chuckles to herself, completely absorbed "I m sure that-". Oh, she realized it was you that spoke. Good, first step.

"You......what. You can talk ?!" She exclaims as she rolls on the opposite side of the bed. "Howwhatwhyionlytooksomenovacoke"she mutters as she moves her her head back and forth, in fetal position

"That'ssss what makes me better than a pony, dummy " You say as you slither towards her. Perhaps your second quip snaps her out.

"No. No no no . This isn't happening" She says with a worried laughter "You are an overuse hallucination, a manifestation of my teenage Bulldrek. Talking snake brain, really ? Couldn't I have the average acid stuff ?"

Strange words, you don't really understand what the mean, but her denial is obvious. "Would a hallucination do thissss ?" You asks as you lightly bump her head with your scaled snout. You would shrug, if you had arms. "Same ansswer why your ssskin is pink. I wasss born that way"

"Oh right, sorry if I was rude" She says, slightly calmer as she pats your head "I bet you are another one of the secrets of my dad, my pet being a talking snake "
"It issss..... Slightly true " you say "I was trained for thisss...protecting you. They don't know I can do thiss...only you"

"Huh, what makes me so special ?" Ske asks, petting your underside now.

"Little things. Treatsss...rubs...general talking. I didn't felt bored with you"

"Well, thats one relationship I haven't fragged" she says with a chuckle. "So, what do you want ? I mean Like, in general. YOU HAVE PROGRESSED TOWARDS THE SOCIAL ADEPT WAY.
YOU HAVE INCREASED YOUR CHARISMA.
Half year has passed after your talk with Alina Knight. She had recovered from her breakup, and it seems that the combination of having a secret from her father and someone t to talk to has improved her mood significantly. You are currently at a Resort in a lovely island on the pacific, while her father had a meeting with the court in Zurich orbital station. Space, what a scary place ! Thankfully Alina was hunting one of her newest mate, a haughty elf named Zack , an actor she picked up when her father left . He seems annoying, and you don't like pretending to be an animal on his presence. But he is nice to her and she seems to like him.

Currently you are lying on her bed on her little resort, a strange house on the seaside . There is no terrarium , you are just lying around, lazily on her bed. Alina and Zack are currently on the beach. Your stomach grumbles but you are a snake, you can handle it

You first decide to tend to your instincts. You slither into towards the sound of something tasty below the bed.

You are quite surprised when you only find a small thing moving about the floor. It looks like a small insect , buts its eyes are glowing and it seems mostly made of metal. It does not seem to register your presence.

You gently approach the small spider drone, your head inches away from it's series of eyes. You could probably eat it in one gulp.

"Oh frag it's near me !" A mechanical voice comes from the drone "What if it tries to eat the drone ?"
"Jax i hear a feedback, i think you have left the mic of the drone open. Close it now !"
"Relax chief, it's not like the snake can hear us, closing mic now "

The voices stop while the drone tries to skitter away. So this "drone" is mechanical ? And is controlled by someone ? That sounds suspicious.

You aporach red cased commlink on the drawer, poking with the end of your tail. Thankfully you managed to read the "SWIPE TO THE LEFT" command, and you manage to do so.

A text discussion pops in the screen between Zack and a user named Jax. The following messages are visible.

"Taking her to the beach today, will try to make a move"
"Damn, good luck man, ill have my eyes on if shit hits the fan"
"You know, I feel kinda bad about this"
"Its for her own good"
"Sometimes I don't believe that"

You dart out of the windows, hurredly slithering towards the grass as you lay low and try not to make any noise. Thankfully you remain unnotice from the resort's security and tourists.

Soon the grass gives way to sand, but by cleverly staying below a tall dune you slowly approach the beach. At least the sand is warm

You see multiple people sunbathing or swimming. The first you can understand (you do it a lot), but not hte second. You also see in the deeper waters Alina smooching off with that annoying elf !

>CHAARGE !

Oh, wait, shit. Is Zack's commlink one of the expensive ones that's waterproof?
If it's not and we go into the water with it, we lose evidence of Zack's treachery.
>>
>>11624
Strangely enough, it's very cheap, you heard Alina making fun of him about it once.
>>
>>11632
Then can I change my vote to making sure to drop the commlink off at the beach before entering the water?
Zack did say that he was going to make his move here, and I think we should get Alina away from him, even if it breaks our cover.
>>
You decide to lie in wait and see what you can make off something. After a long smooching session (WHy do they even do that ? It seems unhealthy to exchange bodily fLuids with other people), Zack seems to whisper something in her ear, and Alina nods. They both seem to swim away from the crowd , twoards the edge of the beach.

You also notice something else....
You could always perceive the astral plane ever since your birth, your birthright as a naga. You can see strane auras around all living things, though your training never made you aware what their difference meant. But you knew that sometimes, you will see something in the astral that is not in the physical. That is a spirit, an entinty from another plane, and it seems to closely follow Zack and Alina under the water.

>What do ?
>>
>>11700
Rush Alina, bowl through people, the more trouble we cause now the more guards show up and help deal with this ugly bastard

>>
>>11700
We have to put the commlink somewhere safe, since it's the proof we need to convince Alina.
Let's follow the pair from the shore, and when they stop, drop the commlink on the sand and rush into the water towards them.

>>
>>11763
The very fact that on-site wagemages haven't seen a spirit this close to the resort means that security has been compromised.

You can't pull data from RAM if the circuits have been fried because the water shortcircuited the chips.

You panic at the sight of the spirit, and you make a run for Alina !
Your Owner.
The one you must protect
Your friend.

Huh.

You didn't knew you can move on water if you are fast enough.

YOU HAVE GAINED THE TRACELESS WALK AND LIGHT BODY POWERS
YOU HAVE MADE PROGRESS TOWARDS TGE ATHLETE'S ADWPT WAY
The ones on the beach cream or record in their commlinks the site of a 8m long snek rushing over the water surface towards the couple.

Both Zack and Alina look extremely puzzled, surprised and confused, unable to even react yet to your presence. After you stop moving, you sink in slightly , though you manage to float and keep the commlink dry.

Alright, I double checked through the dumpshock and Catalyst forums, and Shadowrun does use optical computing.
But that brings into question if the programs that are currently running are loaded into a separate RAM or if everything is in the CPU's cache. Also if cutting the power (which will happen because everything still runs on electricity and batteries) will leave anything in memory or in the cache.

You swim as fast as you can towards Alina, your mouth opening wide and biting into the arm of the spirit. While it was just a blob of wayer with malicious eyes, your dual nature helps and the spirit screams in pain as it lets the girl go, prioritizing you instead.
The situation is tricky. Alina panickedly swims out of your sight to the surface. While you can hold your ground down there for a few minutes, the water spirit is in its home ground and you have no idea what that knife ear is up to.

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the continuation of Shadowrun quest !

That ....thing tries to hurt your charge.
It had to go, it was simple as that.
You easily avoid one of it's watery tentacles as you stafe to the right, before slightly moving backwards to gain momentum, and delivering another attack with your fangs at the elelemental.

Again a scream of pain, but not something else. THe telltale green fluid of your race's natural venom was spreading across the spirit. It looks at you hatefully as it start to move- swim was not a relevant term to what it did-.

Perhaps it ran out of services ? Or broke through it's binding ? Or perhaps it's a ploy of it's master ?

Yes, higher is better
You decide to charge into the traitorous elf, before he gets a chance to hurt your charge more. As you approach, you realize why Alina's moves were so awkward.

There is blood in the water.

HE. HURT. HER.

Anger sweeps through you as you resurface behind the elf and deliver a massive bite to his sides. Zack was caught completely unaware and screams in pain as he tries to jam the manablade on your skull. Your thick scales protect from most of the damage, but you swtill have to disengage the grab, feeling a burning sensation to your head. His skin was also quite hard, some shoirt of spell or genetic modification perhaps. He clutches his side in pain as he looks at you hatefully. So... each character is playing the exact same scenario(s) independently, by themselves? Or is it a 'ShadowRunning party' where everyone has the exact same character archetype etc...?
>>
>>16888
Think of it as several voices inside the Main character's head where the most voted thing is the thing they do.
>>
>>16888
Quests have a bunch of different anons usually playing the same character. What that character does is up to a democratic vote, rolling dice is sometimes involved for certain actions (combat, social, noticing shit etc).
>>
>>16888
Have you ever played quests on /tg/ before? It's the same thing, a collective game. We're all the same character.
>>
>>16906
>>16908
Gotcha! Thanks you both for the clarification. So is this approach that you've described the way it is for EVERY ShadowRun® adventure thread? Or is there ever adventures with different rules/methods for a group/party of players?
>>
>>16909
No I have not, unfortunately. This is the first I've ever seen of this particular type of thread. (And I'm excited to play as soon as I'm comfortable with knowing how!) I've been stuck lurking the cesspool that is /b/ for far too long as of today.
>>
>>16934
Usually the players control a single character, some QMs allow the players to direct the PC's allies in combat. Perspective switches can also happen if the QM feels like it (playing a different character for a while)
>>
While hearing whispers inyour head when you are about to get hit by a manablade, you do just that. For a fraction of a moment, you try and focus to the whisper in your mind.

Your perception switch to a very different place, you seem to be at a staircase on the base of a small grassy hill, leading to a small building on the top.

In front of you stands an old, smiling woman of Asian origins judging her face, with a soft smile.

"I am sure you have many questions, young one. But now is not the time." She says with a stern tone " You have selflessly dived into battle to protect the only family you have, and you have displayed control of your rage for her sake. You show promise...potential. You reply with utter calmness to the strange lady. "THere is no such thing as insurmountable odds to me. THere is always a way. If there is no obvious way, i shall make one myself."

The old lady laughs softly. "You sound like a man i used to know. No matter, it seems your path has been made clear. You have been chosen, Scion."

A swirl of green lights surround you as your eardrums pop, and darkness falls again to your sight...

YOU HAVE GAINED A MENTOR SPIRIT (DRAGONSLAYER)
YOUR REACTION AND WILLPOWER HAVE INCREASED
YOU HAVE GAINED THE CRITICAL STRIKE AND IMROVED ACCURACY ADEPT POWERS

You return to the material realm, the manablade f the elf descendin. Yet, something has changed...you no longer feel pain. In fact, you feel bursting with energy from every pore of your being ! You move backwards and easy avoid the blow, with Zack's eye growing wide. "....THe fuck ?"

You dive towards his neck with speed unnatural for your frame, and too fast for him. After some helpless trashing the poison did its work and its all over.

You look towards the resort after zack's body sinks, and your eyes widen. Many buildings are on fire, and the sound of gunfire with the occasional scream fill the air.

Alina awkwardly swims towards you, a deep gush on her left hip, probably from the manablade. She seems to panicked to utter coherent phrases, but her hugs and sobs pass the message quite well.

"What about the lighthoussse on the edge ?" You ask, pointing to the Rocky cliff at the end of the cove, to an old cylindrical white building with dusty windows on the top.

"I...I don't know if I can do this..." Alina whimpers, grabbing her wounded leg.

"Don't worry, I can help you. Its just half a dozen metersssss after all" you say reassuringly, helping her swim towards the cliff.

The pinky one firmly grabs one of the protruding rock, grunting as she pulls herself upwards. She then places her good leg to another ledge, then painfully lifting he wounded one there. Its much easier for you, having been used to climbing trees, something far harder.

You are halfway there, when suddenly Alina's hurt leg slips and his with force on a previous ledge ! There is a sickening crack as her hip bends in a strange way and starts screaming, losing her grip.

Thankfully you manage to wrap your tail around her before she falls, putting all your strength to pull her up to the lighthouse. She's evidently in great hurt, crying and sniffling as she lies against the wall of the derelict building. "Why...why all this is happening to us ?" She whimpers again "I almost got drowned, stabbed and now probably a dragging dislocated my arm, and I'd probably be dead if it wasn't for you...drek...I don't know what am I supposed to do..."

You affectionately crawl over her body, carefully coiling around her upper body to not hurt her leg. "Alina, focus, deep breaths. You are alive, and I won't make any more harm comes to you. Promise".

She smiles softly, and pulls your head close with her hands, nuzzling your snout. "Thank you. Its... Its a lot of drek to process, can't believe that bastard was sent to kill me. We should just calm downand wait for the HTRT to arrive. A corporate resort will have some short of defense force close by. Just...don't leave my side okay. You approach the wooden door. From the sign at the side it seems the building is a tourist attraction of shorts, so something useful must be inside.

The firstash of your tail barely damaged the door, but a strong headbutt shatters it easily. Though there is a ringing on your ears and some headache, you are mostly alright. After clearing the entrance, it seems most of the interior consists of displays of the lighthouse's amenities. Thankfully one of that seems to be an old bed.

You careful drag the girl inside after revealing her your findings, and the manages to crawl on top of it, making a cocoon of the dusty fur blanket.

"T-thanks " she mutters as she dryers you off as well, trying to smile "All this is damn crazy, but I'm glad you are here". She looks outside with worry. The din of battle seems to have subsided , but the fires are still burning.

"Do you have any meanssss of contacting your father ? " You ask softly, looking with worry on her leg .

"If I had a commlink, sure" She says "I got the commcodes of my dad, most of his security persnel, and the like. I also have a biomonitor installed on my back lobex so probably the whole Firewatch division knows I'm in danger. My actual dad is in space right now though, so I dunno if he can do much. But I'm one hundred percent sure help is on the way"

You nod as you start looking around for something to help her. Thankfully you find a first aid box somewhere, corps don't take emergencies lightly. While you do not really know human first aid, Alina seems more knowledgeable. "This...this is a savior medkit ! Its top tier technology, nothing than the best for corporate born I suppose. She pulls a syringe from inside with a silvery liquid as she injects her leg. "Nanomachines, basically really tiny drones. These ones are programmed to repair internal damage." The wound in her legs begins to knit itself "The dislocated leg is gonna take some time though"

>>18058
You start looking over the attraction for anything of use. Most of the building has vintage machinery or art, but you do find an emergency communication chamber. You cannot operate it, so you wait for Alina's leg to heal.

To pass the time, you tell her of how you started to suspect Zack. She sighs and continues how she came to meet him. They got acquianted in a fundraiser gala on Boston, and claimed to be an actor she adored. "Bet he used magic, I still can't believe how I fell for it" she finishes, sobbing lightly. After you calm her down through a snuggling session, the nanomachines start to do their work and she could limb towards the emergency fall.
.After a quick speech with a trembling voice, a beaming smile is on her face. "Help is coming ! They have dealt with the rest of them and they'll send a team soon ! Finally all this drek is over !"
She tearfully hugs you and pets your underbelly, almost stumbling on the stairs.

You leave her alone to calm down and rest, while you decide to take a peek outside . Sure, you see multiple figures move towards the lighthouse.

But why would a rescue team be armed to the teeth ?
Frag. Why can't anything be easy ?
> What do ?

So, uh

You silently motion to Alina, pointing at the men. While the men wear the suits of Ares, it is very suspicious for them to come fully armed. You quickly exit from the building's backdoor, that only had a simple doorstopper, and closed it silently. Soon, you hear footsteps and the front door opening. Along with voices

"Sir she's not here, though the space looks to have been recently occupied"
"Couldn't have gone that far after she called us. Secure a perimeter, mission is still search and terminate"

Ally gasps at the last one, but thankfully it's not heard.

Make sure they're good and gone, then climb up with Alina and get back indoors. Discuss our options, as well as the conversation we overheard.
>>
You gently help Alina climb down. She seems mostly silent, deep in thought. "Issss somthing bothering you ?" You ask , concerned "Do not worry, ass you ssaid, help iss coming ssoon"
"Im... I'm not so sure about that" She says, forrowing her brow "I call for help and suddenly a hit squad appears where I relayed my position. A spirit was stalking me and none of the magical security notices. None of our security spiders reports drones in my room. Only way they could pull this off...is if it was an inside job"

So many new terms. "But...why would your father's own company targets you ?" You ask confused.

"I don't know, but I think I know where to find answers" She says, pointing at the yaught in the distance "This one came today, and at this point I'm far too paranoid to believe it was a coincidence. Worst case scenario we got an escape plan"

"What odds your plan exactly ?" You ask, raising a scaly equivalents of an eyebrow.
"Well, i'm sure that that boat holds the ones in charge of the whole operation. Either they are distracted from relaying data on the guys in the shore, or on the field themselves. Former means we can ambush them, latter that they are not even there, so we can find files and the like. So we go in there and figure what to do" she says with determination.

"Thisss ssounds dangerousss.... Are you sure you want to risk it ? I do not know of your combat capabilitiesss. And there iss the issue with your monitor"

"The monitor only broadcasts when I'm in critical condition, don't worry about it. And I did three years martial arts, only reason I was so fragged back there us because I panicked. But now ? Well, if I'm a target, it also means my father is". Can't afford to be a scared lil girl any longer".

You furrow your brows at this. It seems like a complete personality switch. You worry about her mental stability.

"Very well...I ssshall join in thissss endeavor. You are my friend after all"

Alina shakes a bit, hugging you softly, with the tenderness you are used to. "Thank you. You are so better than a pony"

"I never knew you had sssuch a side" you say, surprised.

"To be honest I... I did not want you to beassociated with that side of me." She says, her tone shifting to embarrassment. "Sorry if you are mad by I just...you were my getaway from all this drek. "

You blink, then lightly bonk her head with your tail. "That was sssilly of you, but of course I am not mad. I am glad you can be more honessst with me"

Alina laughs, and scratches your head. "Anyway, we ssshould look for a weapon for you"

"What kind if lighthouse has a gun ? And I doubt it would survive in the water. And I don't think we can risk going on the resort" Alina asks, confused.

"Perhapssss a knife or othe ssssuch weaponsss ?" You suggest.

"Hmmm...there is a scalpel in the medkit" She quickly retrieves it from the box on her side. The blade is barely larger than one of your scales, but it does seem very sharp.

" I heh, i'm what you call a decker. I hack stuff, that's basically it. But i hack stuff really well !"
>Who's the man inside the corporation.
"How am i supposed to know ? That's our guy Zack dealing with this shit. He's the only one relatively sociable from our team so he's the talker. Funny story that actually , we can't find him."
>Why does Alina needs to die ?
"Who is- oooooh. Well, she's one of the marks. She's probably a AI controlled nutcase and all. Sad business, but someone's gotta do it."
>Who else is in the ship ?
"Well there is our rigger Baxter, he has drones and drek like that. That's the guy that yelled by the way. Then there's this weird guy named Graham or something. He's our connection with the Johnson and relays this whole gig. "

Alina is fuming at the entire coversation, quite angry at how chill the guy sounds about killing her and other people.

"What was thiss headcase he wass talking about ?"
Alina shrugs `"Not hear much about htem, apparently they are AIs that infect nanites and the like, then somehow get in contact with people and overwrite their personalities. YOUR AGILITY HAS INCREASED
YOU HAVE MADE PROGRESS TOWARDS THE INVISIBLE WAY.

You approach them as silenty as a crawling serpent can, barely even making any sound. Alina follows close after, hands of Jax's weapon.

Downstairs the normal housing seems to have been remade to a large command lounge. A fine man in a suit is watching a large ARO screen with multiple cameras, talking on the phone on a language you don't recognize. On the other side, after a messy bed, some short of weird tent, the aura around it makes you recognize it a lodge. There is an area walled off with glass that seems to be a workshop of shorts, with a greasy ork tinkering on a drone chassis, humming gently. Multiple drones fly around him

His suit seems to made made to have an armor of shorts, but that is little important for you jaws. He screams his pain as his left knee is bent sideways from your momentum, struggling to draw a sidearm and shooh you.

The girl opens fire to the residence of the technician, but he manages to duck before lead flls the air. His floating roto-drones stop circling him and spread around the room, spreading a hail of bullets from small gun emplacements in their frames !

You quickly let the caucasian man wearing a suit be, as you see the four roto-drones target your friend !
You coil like a spring before launching yourself in the air, getting between the unarmoured girl and the gunfire.

Most of the bullets barely graze you thanks to your tough scales, but two pierce through and severely wound you. Thankfully no vertebrae is damaged, but there is no exit wound.

Alina gasps as she returned fire to the drones and took cover behind the corner. A drone get hit in the vulnerable optical systems and fall to the ground.

"Who the frag are you people ?!" The ork says angrily.

"Focus on your mission !" The other one says with a thick german accent "i'm calling for backup, do not let the foe dissuade you !"

"Go fuck yourself with a chainsaw Graham !" The ork swears " I was hired to provide backup to a headcase cleaning op, not to fight giant snakes that threaten to kill my friends !"
"I'm not a fragging headcase alright ?!" Alina yells while reloading "This is just a lie to take out corpmen ! Look fragging around with your drones ! See if any of the people you just killed have even a hint of nanites in their bodies !"

"Agent Baxter don't let her lie-" THe man begins to say, but stops as all the three remaining roto-drones take aim at him.
"No, you shut up you fragging liar ! You set my team up, one is still on shore doing drek knows what and another is missing for hours and now one is hostage. I ain't getting paid enough for this !"

Just recapping some snek thoughts:
>In Zack's communications with Jax (the guy we tied up) he mentioned not being convinced that this was for Alina's own good. This could be pointed out.
>The lighthouse killteam were thugs, they were not only sent to kill an injured girl, but left to loot some other target's house. Ask if these are the people that Jax and the Baxter want to associate with?
- Graham has clearly been using Jax, Baxter, Zack. If we focus all hostility on Graham and paint him as the bastard he is, I suspect the others won't be that eager to spring to his defence. [They might even help us ask the right questions]
>Probably best not to reveal how hard we snekked Zack while the situation is so volatile.

On the other hand:
>Alina does have this whole split personality in this stressful situation.
>This could plausibly be caused by nanites... Or not.
>But hell, even if it is, she's OUR pinkskin, and how is a bullet to the brain the best way to resolve this possible nanite infection anyway?

"Cancel backup now, if you want to live" You hiss menacingly at Graham, peeking out of your cover
"What...what this guy said" Baxter says, as he glares at you, it is obvious he does not yet trust you, but for now his anger is focused towards Graham.

The man seems to ponder for a bit, and just laughs. "You are gonna kill me anyway, why should i stop my only chance of- AAAAH !" A drone shoots as his already broken knee.
"Cancel it or the next one will be at your babymakers !" THe ork shouts
Graham gulps, then hits a button at his commlink, trying to hide the pain from his voice. "Team Alpha, cease operation, the problem has been...neutralized" He hangs up the commlink, and throws it on the ground "THere, happy tusker ?"

"Now look" Baxter says to you "It's clear both of us have reasons to be mad at this drekhead. But moments ago i shot you and your girl tried to shoot me. How about you release my friend and figure out what the frag we gonna do ?"

"Why should we trust you ?" Alina asks "The fact we had your friend was the one reasons you stopped shooting at us. Whats stops you from killing us once well are out of leverage ?"

Baxter shrugs. "Well, we both have reasons not to trust each other. If you noticed, i just shot my employer. All i want at this point is get some answers and salvage any profit my team can get before getting the frag out of here "

You consider telling him our name, but for some reason you decide not to. Pride ? Or embarassment at the "cute" name Alina gave to you ? You don't know

"My name isss Balthazar" YOu says after some thought.
"Pretty damn fancy" Baxter says with a smile as he finished the knot on Graham. In the meantime, Alina is carrying the semi-conscious Jax downstairs.
"What the fraaaag...." he mumbles as he stumbles on the last step as if he was drunk. Seems you hit him pretty damn hard.
"Jax ! " The ork exclaims and rushes towards the old hacker "You have been better, but at least you are alright"
"This girl, she was our mark, i think Graham lied to us" Jax replies dizzily, before gettin up with the help of Baxter "I suppose we cool now snake ?"
"Yess we are. If you wisssh, we can interroate Graham together." YOu reply
"Yeah yeah, i need to lie down and jack in for a while, see what's up to in the shore, and search in the matrix about what the frag is going at Ares." Jax waves at you as he walks to his room.

The three of you look continue towards Graham, your shadows looming ominously to his wounded body. "I'll start first if you don't mind" Alina says, grabbing the man by his collabone and shaking him "Who are you ? What's your status in Ares ?"
"E-excecutive O-officer Jonathan Graham" He stutters in pain "Ares Internal Security Service".
"Why you told those fraggers i'm a fragging headcase ?!" She continues angrily.
"Y-you were on the list" He replies"All the tourists here were suspected CFD victims. THe resort was a deathtrap in the first place. You were just the prime target."
"Why. Fragging why ?!" Alina slaps him accross the face
"Cause your father." He says after a gasp of pain "Damien Knight, CEO of Ares Macrotechnologies, was reported to be CFD positive"
"Bulldrek ! " Alina says as she slaps him again. "Who said so ? WHo you took the kill order from ?! "
"M-my direct superior. Service Overseer Daniel Vogel."
"Vogel..." ALina mutters "Son of Arthur Vogel! So the nephew of the second largest shareholder of Ares declares my dad and myself along with multiple other corp members to be infected with nanites, and you just run with it ?! It's definetely just straight up takeover !"
"I-i was just following orders..." Graham tries to say, but Alina presses her foot down to his broken knee, making him let out another scream of pain. She seems absolutely furious

>Why were you so determined for Baxter to kill us rather than talk to us?
>What bulldrek protocol lets you kill the CEO just because your direct supervisor says so? It's a little suspect that it only takes a few words to have you taking part in a plan to kill the head of the entire company and his family.
>I think you'd better tell us everything chummer, Alina seems quite angry.

Mfw a 10 foot venomous mega-serpent is somehow "good cop" in this interrogation.
>>
"Alina pleasse calm down" You say softly, wrapping you tail around the girl and pulling her away "Your father isss in danger, we have bigger thingss to worry about"
"Oh guys uuuuhhh....about that" Jax says with a worried tone as he returns "Sorry for being the bearer of this kind of drek but it's in the uuuhhhh...news" He points to the large ARO screen, reaching to a Horizon!Daily article title.

TRAGEDY IN SPACE. ARES SHUTTLE DESTROYED AT ATMOSPHERIC RE-ENTRY.

The "Invictus" Space shuttle of Ares was reported to have crashed in east Atlantic at 15:23 local time. The shuttle was reurning to earth from the AAA Corporate meeting in the Zurich orbital Station. The shuttle stopped responding to Terrestial communications thiry minutes after launch. No SOS message was sent according to officials. The crash was reported by local fishermen, with a multicorporate rescue team arriving on the sport soon. As of now, no survivors are reported to be found. More information at the Horizon News channel at 21:00.

"No...." Alina whispers as she looks at the article "No no no no ! It's not possible....can't be...can't be" Her previosuly iron hard exterior you saw after the lighthouse completely collapse, into a whimpering and scrying mess. Tell Graham that we're not decided on whether pull his head off yet, and ask him if he wants to volunteer anything that might help us decide.
>>
>>29705
Aw hell, I'm changing my vote to this. We can always threaten Graham's spinal integrity later.
>>
>>29668
>Interrogate Graham more: how many men did you come here with?
>>
>>29668
>other
Tell Baxter to get ahold of his remaining fellow runner and have them bug out.
It's too bad for the people still left at the resort, but unless we go back there with the yacht, we'll have to leave them to die.

>interrogate Graham
"Of course there's a motive for Volger. You said yourself that his uncle stands to profit from this. Wouldn't it also stand to reason that he would profit as well?"
Also, isn't it possible that Volger is a headcase and the AI is trying to throw suspicion away from its puppets by accusing its greatest threats as headcases and having them eliminated?
>>
>>29774
this too
>>
>>29747
>>29774
Well I guess if people are erring towards more interrogation I'll flip-flop back to support these suggestions, and once we're done with those questions, finish with the:
>Tell Graham that we're not decided on whether pull his head off yet, and ask him if he wants to volunteer anything that might help us decide.
>>
> How many men did you come here with?
I just hired the runners, the rest of the personel in the resort were already informed
>Of course there's a motive for Volger. You said yourself that his uncle stands to profit from this. Wouldn't it also stand to reason that he would profit as well?
"Sure thing, but think yourself this. Would the Corporate Court let this pass by without investigation ? Would Volger survive unless he has unshakeable proof about all this ?"
>"Also, isn't it possible that Volger is a headcase and the AI is trying to throw suspicion away from its puppets by accusing its greatest threats as headcases and having them eliminated? "
"You talk drek right now and you know it ?"
>Tell Graham that we're not decided on whether pull his head off yet, and ask him if he wants to volunteer anything that might help us decide.
"I don't know. YOu have not really given me any proof i am in the wron here really. I mean, all i can figure out for a giant snake to talk is that it's CFD infected too"

After you are done, you tell Baxter to call back the last runner of his group. "Dontcha worry about it, she's already on the way" He says confidently "Just if you see a giant shape on the water ? THat's her "
You don't really undestand, but nod. "Get usss out of here then"
"Like i wouldn't do that anyway!" Baxter chuckles, as he gets outside. Soon, you hear the rumble of the ship's engine.
And you realize you have never being in a boat before.
And getting sea legs requires well...legs.

>What do ?
>>
>>30170
Coil around something and hope for the best
>>
>>30217
This and try to formulate a plan with Alina on what to do next.
>>
>>30170
>Thinking on Baxter's words, Balthazar/Frazzles suddenly thinks back to the creature he fought earlier...
>What if that giant shape in the water is THIS giant shape in the water?
>Surely that thing isn't running with an average bunch of metahumans?

Welp, just on the off chance, I vote strongly in favour of calmly and apologetically explaining what happened to Zack earlier - before a big angry water monster bursts in, recognises us, and chaos erupts.
>>
>>30217
>>30230
Guys please consider the possible impending doom mentioned in >>30259
I got a baaaaad feelin' about this...
>>
>>30259
>>30274
On the off chance it was a free spirit aligned with the runners, it wouldn't run away at first sight of danger
>>
>>30170
Let's comfort alina then talk to Baxter about hireing these shadowrunners. Don't forget to tell alina about our new cool name (she can still call us by our old one)
>>
>>30326
I'd assumed a "tactical retreat", but yeah I guess it might have tried a bit harder to save Zack, inform allies, etc. I guess Balthazar is just getting a bit paranoid. Thanks!

I guess I'm siding with >>30230 then. I think we should also (quietly) ask her how/whether she thinks we should break the news to them about Zack.
>>
>>30170
>all i can figure out for a giant snake to talk is that it's CFD infected too
Naga being a sapient race and capable of talking HAS to be in easily accessible encyclopedia's, right?
It's not something buried in physical books somewhere, is it?
>>
>>30469
Probably, but they're rare, and he seems like a bit of an ignorant shmuck anyway. Besides, the shock/surprise factor can totally work for us, so I'm not complaining.
>>
Fighting your dizzyness you towards Alina that has retreated , where you find her silently sobbing on a bunk bed.
You have never lost someone close to you. But today you felt how almost losing one felt like. You have no idea how you could pull through if you failed to save Alina.
You can't say anything that might help with her pain than you haven't. You just coil around her and try to display your support through physical contacts.
After some time, dhe stops, gently caressing your head. "YOu are bleeding a bt you know " She whispers
"Oh, it's nothing" You say. From the gunfire you only had two bullets lodged on your body, nothing too painful.
Alina wriggle out of your grip and reaches for the medkit. "Lie straight, i can't use nanites, they are programmed for metahman physiology so i'll have to use mundane means"
"Dear, you don't have to-"
"Of course i have. I'm the reason you got hurt like that."
"You shouldn't blame yourself Alina"
"Maybe not, but i want to gget my mind off all this drek for a bit, okay ?"
You sigh, lying on the bed. "Fine, go ahead"
It was more painful that you would admit, but the affections of your charge more than make up for it. Thankfully her mood seems to improve .
"Sssso...what do you want usss to do next ?"
"I..i don't know. Part of me wants to throw everything behind me and run away, part of me wants to see that bastard Vogel dead, part of me jst wants to hug you forever and another part just wants to live a life where nobody tried to drown me or shoot me or stab me and the people i fall in love with are not trying to murder me or want something from me and then they just go..." She snifff "I don't know what to do. If Vasquez could pull this off it means he can pull enough strings to stop censure, and i don't know if i can surive to stand in the spotlight again" She hugs you tightly "What am i supposed to do Frazzlie ?"
>How do you respond ?
>>
>>30988
You are a strong and independent woman Alina. You can do anything you set your mind to.
If you think you can make peace with your father's death, I'll fully support you, but if you want to get back at Vogel as much as I do, I'm sure we can think of something to take revenge. He shouldn't be allowed to do this.
>>
>>30988
"I think the first thing we need to do is secure your safety. And I think the first towards that is to prove that you AREN'T a headcase. Because if you can prove that, then Vogel's entire reason for killing all those high-level Ares employees and having you hunted down gets called into question, and as Graham said, that's when the Corporate Court will get itchy trigger fingers on the person who decided to assassinate one of their own. These shadowrunners may know of a way of getting you tested for that proof."
>>
>>30988
You shouldn't let that bassstard get away with thissss, but we're going to have to be smart about this.
>>
>>31175
Seconded also "Alina I love you"
>>
"You are sssstrong and independent woman Alina. You can do anything you ssset your mind to.
If you think you can make peace with your father's death, I'll fully sssupport you, but if you want to get back at Vogel assss much as I do, I'm sure we can think of ssssomething to take revenge. He sssshouldn't be allowed to do this."
Alina gently kisses you between the eyes "I guess you are right, i can't let Vogel run my fahter's company like that. ANy ideas how we stop him howerver ?"
You think deeply, before speakin again "I think the firssst thing we need to do is sssecure your safety. And I think the first thing towardsss that is to prove that you are not infected with nanitesss. Because if you can prove that, then Vogel'sss entire reason for killing all thossse high-level Ares employeesss and having you hunted down getsss called into quessstion, and asss Graham said, that's when the Corporate Court will sstrike on the persson who decided to assassinate one of their own. "
ALina blinks at all that and smiles. "Wow, you really thought this out. I guess the first thing to do is find a corporate representative willing to present our case to the court. I'm thinking of Horizon. They worked close with my dad and they could profit from the PR of this case a drekton. We'll need to reach safe waters first...then when i feel i will be somewhere where Voge; can't reach me i'll make a broadcast to Horizon"
"Can't you jussst inform them directly ?"
"Too risky, i bet Are's Grid Overwatch Division is looking tin the are for any communications"
You keep talking about details for awhile, before both of you are tired. Realizing how cold you are currently, you again coil around Alina for her body heat. Not that she complains. "How can you be so wiz for me ?" She asks smiling.
"Because i love you" You reply, utterly calm and relaxed.
Alina's eye open wide, before patting your head again, and kissing your snout. "Figures. hopefully you don't backstab me in the near future"
"I do not intend to" you reply, nuzzling her cheek.
"Love you too, then" ALina tiredly says befores she falls asleep.
WIth alina safe in our grasp, you fall asleep, exhausted from this long day. But there is this weird, new feeling in the place where you anoatomically sugest that is your heart......

CHAPTER 1 END
>>
>>31744
Now, unto more serious matter. What would you like from the quest, crunch wise ? THrough your decisions here, i have made a sheet fitting Frazzle's tactics and skills. But if you don't like it we can just keep the d100 system.
Casual knowledge of the SR is welcomed, but not required.
>>
So, our totem is the Dragonslayer.

Being a snake, doesn't that seem a little weird?
>>
>>31783
I'd like to use the 5E rules. I'm only familiar with 3E and only had a chance to look over 4E, and I want to play 5E but all my gaming group does is Burning Wheel (which I like, but it's nothing BUT Burning Wheel).
>>
>>31804
Fight fire with fire. Fight dragons with snakes?
>>31783
A nice balance of combat, decision making and interaction with NPCs. FYI my only experience with SR are the video games by Harebrained studios (minus SR: Hong Kong) so my knowledge is limited to some random lore and none of the TT rules.
>>
>>31804
WHy would it ?
>>31837
5e i planned to anyway.
>>
>>31783
I really like the D100 system its pretty inclusive but then again I had no prior knowledge of shadowrun before this thread
ps thank you OP for the introduction
>>
>>31783
Maybe a mixture of both? Have modifiers on particular rolls and stuff like that.

Also, how high are the stakes for us now we've got the ball rolling? Is death gonna be a real threat or is this gonna a more laid back campaign?

Great work on this chapter, thanks for QMing. I look forward to the next run. You thinking of starting a new thread for the next chapter of the Balthazar/Frazzle saga? Taking break for a little bit first?
>>
>>32341
>You thinking of starting a new thread for the next chapter of the Balthazar/Frazzle saga? Taking break for a little bit first?
I will start a new thread yes. It will be tomorrow or Tuesday according to my projection. Keep an eye on the General !
The pic is aweome too,

>
Also, how high are the stakes for us now we've got the ball rolling? Is death gonna be a real threat or is this gonna a more laid back campaign?
I plan to keep death a very possible thing if you fuck up. THankfully you seem to have handled things in not a foolhardy manner up to now.
>>
>>32338
Agreeing with this guy. Ramping up the mechanics to a pseudo-5e would be cool, but I think for a text based board with multiple anons in charge of the protag, contributing whenever they feel like it, I would imagine a hybrid of parts of 5e and the more laid back d100, narrative driven style you gave us in this thread could work nicely? It also makes it a lot easier for new guys to watch for a bit and jump in, rather than having to learn the mechanics in detail.

From experience though, I think a good QM/DM can smooth out bumps in the mechanics pretty well, and give a good experience with almost anything, from a simple "who rolls higher" to a fully fledged p&p system... Kek, no pressure!
>>
Also, to any/all anons still lurking, a screencap of the key posts and a summary would be great to start next thread with. If I'm still awake in a few I'll try and cobble something together, but if anyone else wants to take a shot that might be helpful (in case I fuck it up/miss anything/misrepresent the chapter).
>>
>>32433
I really look forward to it. im quite invested in this now never really done any non CRPG games before
>>
>>32671
Speaking of CRPGs, is that Xan as in the moonblade-wielding mopey enchanter? Or is he just a coincidental namesake?
>>
>>32728
Xan has been my moniker for years but I actually got it from Unreal tournament 1999 the final boss was called Xan Kreigor used it in my early online gaming carer and it stuck
>>
>>32783
Fair enough. Just made me think of the party member from BG. I'm currently planning to stay anon in these threads (unless a reason not to turns up), but I'll probably be recognisable from my (over)use of the draw function. I just love me a few visuals with a story. See you in the next thread I imagine!
>>
>>32896
You bet, it would be interesting to if it gets any other regulars.
I'm really enjoying your art pieces by the way gave me a few good chuckles
>>
>>32931
ID changes between threads, but I'm hoping we'll start to recognise a few regulars.

>art
But thanks man, I'm glad someone other than myself gets a laugh out of them.
>>
Anyone know how to archive things to suptg?
>>
>>33258
Never mind did it my self. Go to the qst archive on suptg and it should be there.
