How many incomplete maps do we have?
>>
>>89797226
Is it possible to add three (tiny) islands somewhere, or just no?
>>
>>89798044
yes
>>
>>89798044
>>89798384
No.
>>
>>89799824
Why not?
>>
>>89800540
Because if we start adding landmasses, no matter how little we make them, we're going to start having slippery slope debates about why they shouldn't the next one to be added be slightly bigger.
>>
>Desert Ogres
Desert ogres are one of the many ogre species living in Giantstep. They are very elusive individuals, being difficult to truly categorize as an ogre, as it looks like its origins are more the result of hybridization between different species rather than mere evolution, making many think they should not be considered ogres. They are very thin creatures for ogres, making them look emaciated, even though they are actually just as strong as other ogres. They have a massive lower jaw, full of fangs and tusks, which can never be fully closed. They have a dense facial hair around their eyes, protecting them from both sunlight and the scorching sand. These eyes also have a reflective layer behind their eyes, allowing them to detect light even during night, making their eyes shine in the dark as a result.
>>
>>89801082
Desert ogres live alone, moving through the desert either as herders or as bandits. The desert ogre culture is one of temperance and privations. While they still worship the Great Maw, the desert ogres do so in a different way, seeing as the desert makes them unable to live a lifestyle similar to other ogre groups. They need to be very careful with the resources they have at hand, avoiding excess in any way that could led them to starvation of dehydration. They usually find themselves travelling from oasis to oasis, seeking anything that can be edible or enough water to drink. Desert ogres always wear thick robes, nearly covering their entire body but their eyes and their hands. Desert ogres are surprisingly good tailors, and they use this ability to create clothing that protects them from the sun and the sand, keeping them both free from sunstroke during the day and freezing during the night. Many desert ogres will have with them a herd of goats, keeping them around as a constant food source. Desert ogres eat anything but the skin, not letting any edible bit to go to waste, as they believe the Great Maw looks down on those who misuse the resources of the land.
>>
>>89801096
Desert ogres are very effective stalkers. Instead of using their strength to hunt or fight as any other ogre, they tend to pursue their prey from afar. They are capable of sneaking upon their prey, either animals or travelers, with utmost stealth, being able to end up in front of them and cut their exit, forcing them to either a confrontation or to look for another route. An experienced desert ogre will do this multiple times until the prey dies of exhaustion, leaving them and all of their possessions to them. Desert ogres make ritualistic tattoos on themselves for every successful hunt, leaving them with tens of thousands of small ceremonial marks by the end of their lives.
>>
>>89799824
Plan B then.
>>
>Pale Ogres
Pale ogres are one of the many species of ogre living in Giantstep. Mostly limited to Scimitarian, though there are populations of pale ogres in other areas of the step, pale ogres are ogres adapted to living in near pitch-black conditions, either in underground or in the densest bogs and marshes. They are photophobic, their skin is highly sensible to light and blisters under sunlight, though quite resilient against pretty much anything else. Their eyesight is extraordinarily good, with massive owl-like eyes that occupy most of their face. These are also highly resistant to damage, so they are not as much a weakspot as one may think at first. However, these eyes are highly sensible to light, being dazed and hurt by any luminous source. Pale ogres are very big and bulky, at around 2.65 meters of height, but they are also surprisingly flexible, capable of fitting crevices and tunnels that one would assume they could not go through.
>>
>>89801225
Pale ogres are some of the ogres with the lowest levels of intelligence of all ogredom. There are many rumors that they were a result of an ancient project to create a slave race to work in the undergrounds, but their lower intelligence made controlling them quite difficult, as they tend to enter savage tantrums with ease. Pale ogres are barely capable of speech, mostly communicating through grunts and punches, and they see most other sentient beings as mere food, especially when they cannot defend themselves. They are more violent than the average ogre, and tend to fight for pretty much any reason. Pale ogres worship the Maw, but due to their intelligence, the only shows of adoration are paintings in the walls of caves in the shape of jaws.
>>
>Peat-Cutterlings
Peat-Cutterlings are one of the many ogre species living in Giantstep. The peat-cutterlings are notorious for having long claws instead of hands. Their sharp edges are incredibly dangerous, though peat-cutterlings mostly use them to work peat pools. They also have a very dense fur, with skin full of folds, making them resistant to cuts and stabbing, something they need for when they need to fight each other. Peat-cutterlings also have a single eye in the middle of their face, protected with a layer of transparent tissue, which protects the organ from strange bodies. This issue is surprisingly resilient, something they need as their eye works for both seeing and hearing, though the inner workings on that are very poorly understood. Peat-cutterling fights are often blindingly fast. Like all ogres, they tend to fight amongst each other, but in those cases where the fights are to the death, they will hurl at each other, trying to gouge out their eyes before the opponent can do so, looking more like a fencing match than an ogre brawl. Peat-cutterlings are surprisingly agile, being blindingly fast with their claws, preferring to gut or decapitate their prey instead of bludgeon it, something they cannot do correctly, as they have no fingers, and thus they cannot grab stuff.
>>
>>89801608
Peat-cutterlings are famous for their works in the peat pools of the bogs of Northern Giantstep. The swamps of the Bog Witch produce making a great amount of peat every year, which finds many of uses both within and outside of the bogs. Peat-cutterly are perfectly suited for working in peat extraction, as their claws can easily go through the material with ease, organizing it in blocks for its transport, and the effluvia emitted by the pits does little damage to ogre physiognomy. This also keeps would be thieves from attempting to steal the product, as few would want to get into a fight with ogres. Young peat-cutterlings also tend to serve as mercenaries and footsloggers for the different powers within the swamp, as their claws are sharper during their youth and they dent and blunt over time, preferring to work in the peat pools once they cannot fight effectively anymore.
>>
Well, I think that's it for ogres, unless someone wants to add more stuff. I'll think of something for the trolls, since we have a couple of things already described about them (though I have to search for those threads).

After that, it's all of the beastfolk. By far the biggest group of them all, and also the ones with the least descriptions, since most beastfolk are mentioned once or twice and never actually described.

Also, do we have something for orcs? I know they have their society explained in the Orc'eire page, but do we have their anatomical description too? Anything special about them?
>>
Also, peat-cutterling eyes could be a weird item, though I'm not sure what it could be used for...
>>
>>89801705
they have a great potential as aspy tool, the lore post >>89801608 clearly states that:
> their eye works for both seeing and hearing
the item could be used as some sort of remote camera/microphone, i am adding it to the item list.
With this i have the second beast item, the first one is the fairy dust.
>>
>>89802445
>great potential as aspy tool
The problem of that it's going to be their size. They are cyclopean eyes, possibly the size of a human fist or bigger. Hard to hide.
>>
>>89800714
We already added landmasses though Zemyland wasn't on the original map.
>>
>>89803040
And after that, no other landmass was allowed. Remember the Fantasy Kingdom, or however it was called (the nº6)? It was rejected after some discussion because no land after zemyland was allowed. Much less now, since it could cause massive problems to many parts of the lore.
>>
>>89803040
It's not that big in my opinion, you can still hide them if you are careful enough.
>>89803075
Yeah that's the problem with making exceptions to the rules, you make one and then you have to make others because you made the first one.
>>
>Trolls
Trolls are a group of sentient species living in the world of Giantstep. They are fairly widespread throughout the world, and all share many qualities like a big size or powerful healing capabilities. Trolls rarely form complex societies, though the Kingdemocracy of the Civilized Trolls is a notable exception to that rule, instead preferring to live in small groups or individually, roaming the land and hunting, with very little in the way of technology.
>>
>>89803184
>General Troll Characteristics
Trolls are some of the tallest creatures not considered pseudo-giants or giant-spawned, measuring over 3 meters of height. While not as bulky as ogres, their sheer size makes them authentic powerhouses, capable of cracking stone with their fists. They have an ape-like physiognomy, with very long arms six fingers on each hand. Their hands are also elongated, and all of this gives them a considerably long grabbing range, being able to reach things very far from them (and considering their size, that’s quite a distance). That makes physically approaching a troll a very dangerous proposition, being much better to attack using ranged weapons, like bows, slings or gunpowder guns. The shape of their hands is also interesting, as their thumb, while there, is much shorter than the rest of their fingers, making a pincer movement very difficult. This causes severe problems when manipulating their environment, which explains why they barely use technology, when even ogres are capable of some rudimentary crafting.
>>
>>89803198
Trolls are known throughout the world for their extraordinary healing abilities. Trolls are able to recuperate from wounds that would kill other creatures multiple times over, giving them extraordinary endurance during fights. However, there is a big misconception regarding troll healing. While many believe that their wounds can heal in a matter of seconds after occurring, the reality is more complex. It turns out their wounds do not immediately heal, but they are hidden by their blood, which can clot at an astonishing rate. This makes many wounds not immediately threatening, keeping trolls from bleeding to death, which gives them the appearance of invulnerability. However, the wound is still there, and trolls can still feel the negative effects of the damages. It is very frequent for trolls who have survived life-threatening fights to collapse into comas hours after the encounter, as the damages finally take a toll on their bodies. However, even then the trolls will enter in a healing slumber, in which their body will focus all their efforts on repairing whatever damages have been caused. The only wounds that their bodies cannot immediately stop are magic wounds or burns.
>>
>>89803208
The trolls’ level of intelligence is a complicated topic. Many see trolls as having a child-like intelligence, with none of the curiosity that allows a mind to develop further. Thus, most trolls end up having a very primitive way of life, while being overly emotional and not being able to follow most normal logic. From time to time, a singular troll is born with an intelligence roughly the level of an ogre or even beyond, making them geniuses in the eyes of other trolls. These figures can often become tribe chiefs, but if they live near other societies, they can even try to imitate them and force other trolls to adopt their way of life, though the results of that are often terrible failures.
>>
Now, I found a lot of troll types of troll in thread 56-2. But I would like to reduce the number of troll variants as much as possible, both as to make the trolls a more universal presence and to avoid bloating more the sentient species list.

Since the Nebelhutzen are already described, I imagine adding two more types of trolls would be ideal, three in total. Any opinions on this? Which trolls would be the other two? I've searched the lore and nearly all of the time the trolls just appear mentioned as "troll", making no further distinction.
>>
>>89803075
I honestly don't see the big problem.

So basically you want to retcon stuff out of existence because you don't want to add anything to it?

All the troll races on thread 56#2 have a brief appearance and social description so you can just mark them as done on your spreadsheet if you want to be completionist
>>
>>89805533
>this description doesn't match the image used at all
There was an image? Fuck, I missed it.

>So basically you want to retcon stuff out of existence because you don't want to add anything to it?
No, but instead of making it different species, making them different clan cultures or something like that. I'm struggling to add stuff for different species when they are so similar with each other. Plus, I do think the sentient species list is bloated as it is, especially once when (or if) we start writing rules. If you all think they should be different species, though, I'll just add them as such.

Where is the image of desert ogres?
>>

In which page? I've checked the wiki for mentions of "troll", and the ones I've seen are the rock trolls and the nebelhutzen.

always been that common on /tg/ or is it a new phenomenon sparked by giantstep getting big?
>>
>>89806727
These have popped up from time to time, often one or two per week, they are not rare. The rare thing is lasting this long.
>>
>>89803879
The desire to add more land just means you want to add your shitty OC donut steal and for others to develop it for you.

There's no need for that. Contribute to the setting don't add unrelated far-flung orphan states for others to work on
>>
>>89806727
First one using this exact format is Gloria-Etalia years back. Since then none took off until Giantstep which like just keeps going for over a year

As >>89806744 said they pop up from time to time mostly due within a few days though
>>
>>89805599
they are already somewhat lumped together (cave/swamp/rock/desert, and then Furred/ Hill/Yeti/Sylvan, and then northern trolls variants)

thread 32

>>89806422
I meant brief appearance description for each troll race appears on thread 56#2

but furred trolls and sylvan are also on the wiki, sea trolls are implied to exist, and swamp, cave, and hill trolls are briefly mentioned in discussions on older threads

northern trolls tie into ideas I have for Zemyland that I may or may not ever get around to implementing, but it does say on several pages that there are several variants of trolls here
>>
>>89806908
Autia also got pretty big and latest longer than Gloria-Etalia
>>
>>89806964

Mermaid trolls? How would that work?
>>
>>89806973
Autia was also disappointing. The Pengu empire with 1 line of text in lore was bigger than the whole starting continent which was the only place people wrote lore for. They just kept making the map bigger and adding 1 sentence placeholder nations of ever increasing size

Ok, found it. Ys, it doesn't look like what I wrote.

Dammit, I liked my idea of tuareg ogres. I'll give them another name and put them somewhere else on the map. Any ideas?

Also, we need more help with the wiki, there's so much stuff not added we might trip over done already done but not categorized.

Fresser-Dray-Messer
>Entity type
Boogeyman/folk hero, patron of thieves, outlaws, bandits and vagabonds
>Location
Forest of Sunflowers/Fairy Woods
>Description
Fresser is a folk figure, a dangerous outlaw said to carry three knives. He appears on dark forest paths and country roads, usually clad in coarse brown wool, with a hooded cape obscuring his face. His three knives are said to be extremely dangerous magical items. The first knife, when stabbing a man, destroys a man's body, the second his spirit and the third, most powerful of all, his soul. Most legends around Fresser say that he was once a mere mortal who was cursed after he broke the heart of a forest nymph, now forced to forever wander.
>Followers
Amongst bandits and outlaws, Fresser enjoys a healthy respect and many turn to him in their hour of need. There also exists a secretive bandit cult, recognisable by their distinctive handshake, that works in the shadows towards a greater cause: freeing Fresser of his curse and obtaining his weapons.

>>89806908
Nah there were definitely a lot of attempts before Gloria-Etalia, it's just that very few manage to survive long enough to be remembered.
>>
>>89806995
They only have a brief line on the Chrysovica page, so I guess do what you want if you have an idea

>>89806998
Pengu empire was mostly big due to the deformation of putting a globe on a rectangle, but it also didn't get any lore and was basically a low effort meme. Some of the stuff on other continents turned out okay, but most of the best stuff was on the original continent
>>

Ok, so this is the list of ogres for now:

Rock Trolls/Common Trolls (as these seem to be the most normal of the bunch, they get the "common" title)
Alquizhibab (the tuareg troll I wrote before, since I don't want the idea to be wasted)
Desert Trolls (not sure what to add here, desu)
Cave Trolls (I feel the niche of the cave trolls is already covered by the pale ogres, though)
Yeti/Furred Trolls
Sylvan (the Tenzin page states they are different yet similar, so they are something else from yeti. No idea what could the difference be).
Northern Trolls (Just making one, maybe a troll species comon in northeastern Giantstep, Littlestep and Zemyland)
Nebelhutzen (Already done)
Mermaid trolls (considering how many species we have, there are so few fully aquatic ones, so I'll se what I can do with this)

Anything else I've missed?

Can we do something else with them, then? I would like to avoid redundancies, and if they are literally the same thing but with different hair color, then we could either fold them together or think of something different.

just fold them together then, but maybe mention the color difference

>Ogres

There are four main subraces of ogre, plus several offshoots. Their origins are unclear, with some believing they come from the northwest (perhaps another warrior race created by the faerie lords and their gods). Other theories point to the southeast (perhaps a form of giantkin). Most ogres think they are creations of the Gluttony God, and therefore worship him as a creator god.

Aside from their physical resemblance to each other, they are also (mostly) bound together by shared worship of the Gluttony God. Although not all ogres in each race worship the Gluttony God, the fact that almost no horned ogres do so (in a manner recognizable by other ogres) is a major sore point among other ogre races, as they see it as a rejection of the creation myths and vision for one day unifying the ogre races.

>Manskin Ogres (Manogres, Man-ogres)

Anatomy Description: Resembles a crude, stocky human, but much larger. Adults are generally overweight.

Society Description: Manskin ogres are the smartest of ogres, though most are dimwitted by human standards, and even the smartest are barely smarter than the average human. Most of them are animal herders, though they prefer hunting when possible. They are capable of mining, smithing, quarrying, and other basic industrial tasks. Their “cities” are essentially fortified towns made up of ogre-scaled buildings that generally serve as the seat of power for a “prince” (ruler of several herding tribes, though not all tribes have a prince). Many manskin ogres seem to idealize human cultures, and frequently adopt their customs or do mercenary work for them. However, other aspects of their culture are distinctly ogre, and a few components are leftovers from their association with the fey.

Geographic Extent: Level 3, manskin ogres are dominant in the “Petty Manogre Princedoms” and not uncommon in Sniden (where they follow the distinct culture there instead). Manskin ogre mercenaries can be found in many western human nations. Some manskin ogres have joined the Gnoll Empire, or at least pilgrimage there.

>Swamp Ogres (Green Swamp Ogres)

Anatomy Description: Green skin, more bloated looking than other ogres

Society Description: Swamp ogres had a reputation for being lazy hunter-gatherers, bandits and occasional herders, though in reality they have been able to develop elaborate cultures during certain points throughout history. Some languages used by humans in parts of the east can be traced back to them, as can the oral tradition of HuraraA. Although some swamp ogres still practice their traditional style of living, most have become integrated into gnoll society, where they often serve at a high level as priests, administrators, and officers. Swamp ogres were once somewhat lax in their worship of the Gluttony God, but those in the Gnoll Empire are now often quite fanatical.

Geographic Extent: Level 2B. Although degenerate offshoots of the swamp ogre race can be found in many parts of the west, true swamp ogres are mostly found in the Gnoll Empire plus a few small pockets in the eastern Dominion and neighboring nations.

>Horned Ogre

Anatomy Description: large, hunched posture, red skin (some blue), large horns. Resilient to magic, and blue skinned ones can “eat” magic and cast spells of their own.

Society Description: Horned ogres are tribal and primitive. They have a history of raiding human cultures they see as weak, but avoiding ones they see as strong. They worship the Gluttony God in a complicated manner based on cannibalism and ancestor worship that other ogres don’t recognize. Many have converted to a crude form of fire worship instead based on Avangar culture.

Geographic Extent: Level 2B. Horned ogres are mostly found on certain islands east of Littlestep, most of which are now part of the Avangar Empire.
>>
>>89810992

>Peacock Ogre

Anatomy Description: shorter than other ogres, ability to change color of skin

Society Description: Tribal hunter-gatherers. Like the horned ogres, the peacock ogres will attack non-ogre communities they see as weak, but avoid those they see as strong. Peacock ogres take worship of the Gluttony God fairly seriously in their own way, and sometimes protect weak non-ogre villages that pay lip service to the Gluttony God. Some worship the Lord Descended instead and have become fanatics.

Geographic Extent: Level 2B. Peacock ogres can be found in several nations in the southeast, but are not dominant in any one. A few can also be found in the Gnoll Empire

Discussion: N/A

>Pale Ogres/Pale Swamp Ogres

Anatomy Description: Pallid skin, warped features. Confusingly, the ogre slave races created by both the Bog-Witch and certain drow cities are often called by these two names

Society Description: Tribal hunter-gatherers. Both varieties are dumb and violent but also subservient to things they view as powerful. Although often seen as barely better than animals, they are capable of crude art and crafting, and can be remarkably creative when adapting to harsh environments. Both varieties have been enslaved in large numbers by other races like the drow, the Bog-Witch’s followers, the witch-elves, and certain human cultures. Some still worship the Gluttony God in a crude manner, but they aren’t seen as “true ogres” by the four original ogre races.

Geographic Extent: Level 2B. Both varieties can be found in many locations throughout the west. Those in Scimitaria were usually created by the drow, while those in the Dominion were generally created by the Bog-Witch and her followers.

>Half Ogres

Anatomy Description: Ogres can breed with some other races, but not easily, and most occurrences are the result of deliberate attempts to make a warrior race. The half-ogres of Elanxa are perhaps the most successful (created from humans and manogre mercenaries), but the “Fake Humans” of Histeriah are the most numerous. Widely believed to have been created from mixing human, hobbit, gnome, and manogre bloodlines together, the extreme reactions that humans get to seeing a “Fake Human” points to unnatural magic being involved in their creation as well.

Society Description: Varies by region.

Geographic Extent: Level 2B. As the “Fake Humans”/Histeriah are usually seen as a separate race, there is no region where half-ogres are dominant. They are most common in Elanxa, but can be found in a few other nations as well like Zapalovach and Sniden.

Ok, so how's this for desert ogres?

>Desert Ogres
Desert Ogres are one of the many ogre species living in Giantstep. Moving around between the savannah and the desert, desert ogres are some of the heaviest ogres of all. Their incredibly thick skin and their fat reserves (used to store water within them, somewhat akin to a camel) makes them incredibly tough creatures. Their mouth is full of tusks, and have a bite strength that can shatter bone with little issue. Desert ogres have a light brownish skin, full of ritualistic markings and tattoos, both representing the adoration of the Maw and the successful hunts of the tribe.
>>
>>89811516
Desert ogres are very adept hunters. As their low intelligence keeps them from formulating complex ambushing plans or traps, desert ogres have developed a very brazen way of hunting the fauna of the Zulutaur Steppes. After praying to the Maw, they will disrobe in the middle of the savanna, make a cut on themselves (nothing debilitating, but enough to draw blood), and wait for a predator to come to them. The desert ogre then will wrestle the giant predator into submission, trying a series of grapples and holds to choke the monsters in the savannah to death. If no predator comes to them, they will go to the herbivore herds and hunt the old fashion way, chasing after the herds. Desert ogres have developed a complex system of martial arts, designed to fight the predators of the wild, and the tribes will teach the younglings this system from a very early age. This is essential for their survivor, as they risk their lives every day hunting the most dangerous game in the savannah, and one mistake can be enough to be gutted by the beasts of the steppes, even with their physical resilience.
>>
>>89811522
Desert ogres are highly religious. Their adoration of the Maw takes the form of a hunting deity, that helps those in honorable pursue of prey. As the Maw is the biggest predator of them all, so the desert ogres need to pursue to be the best hunters they can. Many desert ogres carry on them the bones of their biggest kills, as a show of prowess, pride and respect for the Maw. The tribes celebrate big feasts when particularly threatening creatures are slain, with all partaking in the ceremony. Desert ogres are also very social, with a surprisingly low level of violence between them. When violence occurs, it is in the form of ceremonial duels, where the ogres will fight using their martial arts prowess just as if they were hunting, using grapples, holds and chokes against their opponent. Once game starts to become scarce, they will move to other regions in search of prey, which often necessitates crossing the desert. Their biology allows them to spend weeks without eating or drinking, and once they reach a new hunting ground, they will begin a series of rituals, thanking the Maw for the new creatures they are allowed to hunt.
>>
>Rock Trolls
Rock trolls, also known as common trolls, are one of the many troll species living in the world of Giantstep. Rock trolls are tall creatures, easily reaching the 3 meters of height, and are able to survive in most environments, easily being the most widespread troll species, though they are most common in Western Giantstep. Rock trolls develop a mix of scales and bone plaques over most of their body, making them much tougher and hard to wound. These defenses are concentrated on their back, with their front much less defended. Seeing as the best way to confront a troll is attacking them from behind, this makes rock trolls a much tougher opponent than others of their kind. They are also slightly smarter than other trolls, but their intellect is still lower than those of orks. This level of intelligence allows them to mimic others’ ways of life more successfully, though those who have seen troll agriculture have labeled it as “a crime upon the land”.
>>
>>89812064
Rock trolls often live from the land, being very effective hunter-gatherers. While their physiognomy makes grabbing anything a difficult task, they often live in the mountains, and go down to the plains to search for food. They are not particularly good climbers, however, and they try to avoid carrying their prizes up the mountain, as it is very difficult for them. After a rock troll has had their fill, they will go back to their hiding place and sleep. Rock trolls can spend weeks without eating, spending the rest of the time sleeping or loafing around to preserve energy. Rock ogres can sleep 18 hours per day if they are well fed. They also try to obtain as many crafted items as possible, seeing as they are unable to make their own, but since they are not that bright, they will often take things that are utterly useless to them. This makes rock troll hideouts look like garbage dumps, where items frequently broken and in disrepair are piled in mountains of trash.
>>
>>89812069
Rock trolls tend to live long lives thanks to their healing abilities, around 100 years. The social structure of rock trolls is very varied, either forming small groups or living alone. In the cases when they form groups, there is little familiar bonding between the individuals, but this can develop if they see this in nearby societies. Rock trolls are the only troll species that has proven to be capable of forming a complex society in the form of the Kingdemocracy of Civilized Trolls, but many believe this is just a fluke and not something inherent within rock trolls.
>>
>Cave Trolls
Cave Trolls are one of the many species of trolls living in Giantstep. Cave trolls are a slightly smaller than most trolls, measuring 2.75 meters of height with upright, but they often are hunched in such a way they apparent half of that height. They have a much thinner skin than most trolls, and are often ivory white as the result of their nocturnal lifestyle. This thinner skin is coated in a slight sweat that alleviate the damages from cuts and help them fit into tunnels and crevices they wouldn’t otherwise be unable to go through. Their level of intelligence is much lower than other trolls, to the point they are barely considered sentient.
>>
>>89812418
Cave trolls are on the brink of extinction. This is because they have been hunted down for millennia, and their numbers have eventually dwindled to dangerous levels. Cave trolls used to attack in frenzied waves, and the local populations near cave trolls have, over time, dedicated so many efforts into keeping them contained that they actually drove them into near extinction. Farmers and hunters will go to their caves during mating season and fill them with flammable tars, and once they know cave trolls are near, they will set fire to the place, killing the younglings and potentially wounding the parents. This makes cave trolls very fearful of any other sentient beings. Unlike other trolls, who have no issue getting into a fight, cave trolls will not engage unless they have an overwhelming advantage, and prefer to hide or run. This also makes them nocturnal creatures, living in the darkness to avoid any encounter with danger. When they have the numbers, or when they find a lone wanderer, they revert to their frenzied behavior, scratching and ripping apart anything they find, only to flee when they sense danger. Also, this doesn’t mean that cave trolls do not attack cattle or towns, so the villagers continue their work of hunting the cave trolls.
>>
>>89812421
Some cave trolls have moved into swamps, though their soft skin means that they are ripe for parasitic infestation. Mosquitoes, leeches, fleas... They will harass the cave trolls constantly, their bodies showing inflammation and bite scars of thousands of swamp creatures, weakening them over time. This makes cave trolls particularly irritable and ill-tempered, causing them to be even more frenzied, attacking and eating anything that might get near their cave.
>>
>Desert Trolls
Desert trolls are one of the many troll species living in Giantstep. Desert trolls are lone hunters, since their habitats cannot maintain many of them together, in neither food nor water. Desert trolls have their bodies covered in small scales, much smaller than those of the rock trolls. Most of these take the form of spikes or hairs, which offer less protection but are lighter and allow to regulate their temperature better, something important when dealing with the desert. Their skin is rough, protecting them from the occasional sandstorms, and they can even walk through scorching sand during the hottest hours of the day barefoot. While they are as big as most trolls, they are thinner, as there is not enough food to maintain a bulky physique.
>>
>>89814400
Desert trolls are one of the less intelligent of the trolls. They have very few capabilities, both in a technical, logical or social sense. They will rarely try to communicate with other sentient creatures, mostly seeing them as rivals or as prey. However, their instincts to survive in the desert are highly developed, being able to detect water sources, shade, food and other things needed to survive in that habitat. This makes many keep an eye on desert trolls from a distance, in case they need to find any of these elements to survive the harsh desert. Desert trolls also tend to create hideouts in areas far from populated centers, where they could store whatever item could serve them survive, as well as to cook their prey. Desert trolls tend to decorate their lairs with layer after layer of bones, skeletons resulting from their hunting, decorated with primitive animistic symbols.
>>
>>89814411
Despite this, some of these ogres have become used to social interaction with other groups, generally being somewhat “domesticated” from a very early age. Doing this is dangerous, however, as their big size and lack of intelligence means they are unruly and could attack without provocation for no discernible reason. Generally this is only done for species that can match the desert trolls in strength pound for pound, like ogres or giant-spawned.

The peacock ogres do not worship the Maw. From the petty manogre princedoms:

>The cult of the Gluttony God has somewhat resurfaced within the ogres, but unlike many other ogres, the manogres do not worship the Maw. Instead, they partake in culinary competitions to show their devotion to their god.

They worship the Gluttony God, but not in the aspect of the Maw.

it says manogres don't worship the maw (at least not most of the ones in the princedoms, some manogres in the gnoll empire do)

however, it says most other ogres do worship the maw

>Yeti/Furred Trolls
Yeti, also known as furred trolls, are one of the many species of trolls living in Giantstep. These trolls are accustomed to live in high altitudes, capable of breathing without issue no matter the height. This means they have developed a tremendous stamina in comparison to other creatures, and they use this ability to pursue their prey further up and down the mountain until it becomes exhausted and easy to eat. Their bodies are covered by a dense coat of fur, evenly distributed throughout their bodies. This coat of fur also covers their face completely, and yet they somehow can see through the hair. It also makes it so that you cannot know whether a yeti is looking at you or not until they strike or move along. Their fur coat has a wide range of colors, often depending of geographical location, feeding habits and other factors. There’s a discussion about whether all these groups could be considered different species, but by in large, they are capable of reproducing with each other and their offspring is fertile as well.
>>
>>89823115
Yeti are considerably smart for trolls. They have developed many techniques for hunting in the mountains, as game big enough to feed a creature like a troll is rare. Thus, they cannot afford leaving any sizeable animal or passerby to leave. They often find ways to scare their prey into falling into cliffs or become lost in the mountains and die frozen. Then they just have to get their prize by climbing, as they are surprisingly good climbers, capable of scaling with their bare hands. Yeti are also one of the few trolls that can form complex groups, making villages of a couple dozen yeti in remote areas of the mountains. However, this is fairly rare, since there’s seldom food for many trolls together. In general, these appear near populations of shepherds, where the trolls can reliably find food by attacking the herds.
>>
>>89823122
A particularly interesting fact about yeti is that the females’ maternity instinct is much stronger than in the rest of the troll species. They will defend their spawn fiercely, even jumping through flames to their deaths if that means saving them. It also means that, if their offspring dies, they will try by all means to replace it with something else. It has been reported that female yeti have gone down the mountains to kidnap human babies to rear as their own. And since the babies cannot survive in the high altitudes, this generates a destructive spiral that usually ends with the death of the yeti. Some human babies have survived, however, and these are called the “wild people”, who will act like savage trolls and are unable to bring back to society.
>>
>>89823131
A particular type of yeti is the Sylvan. The sylvan live in the Great End Peaks, and are believed to be affected by the spewing of the Mountain of O’oze. While its effects have not been as severe as in other creatures, it has mutated them somewhat, giving them demonic features. Their teeth are so long they don’t fit in their mouth, they have claws instead of fingers, their eyes have become a bright red and they have grown a spiked tail. They are one of the most dangerous creatures in the region, hunting anything in the mountains that could be edible. Tenzinese and Otamlarese herders keep tabs on the sightings of these creatures, as they are stealthy and difficult to kill if they decide to attack their cattle.
>>
>Northern Trolls
Northern Trolls are one of the many species of trolls living in Giantstep. Northern trolls are accustomed to survive in the frozen plans of Zemyland, having developed many ways to combat the frost. Northern trolls have a blue skin, with chemical properties that protect the troll from the cold and the frost, not dissimilar to the snow gnomes. Northern troll skin is much denser than gnome skill, and thus it does not go into hues of blue as intense as snow gnomes. However, their thicker skin and bigger size makes them generate much more heat, which can led to overheating when the temperature is high enough. They solve this through their nose. They are able to regulate their body temperature by breathing, and since their lungs are also massive, they are able to liberate a great deal of hot air from within, equilibrating their inner temperature with the outside. If they don’t need to do so, their breathing rate slows down a lot, helping them preserve their temperature. They can hold their breath for many hours, and once they exhale, they liberate a column of hot steam, giving an impression of walking geysers. Northern trolls have enormous heads, proportionally much bigger than those of humans or ogres. This makes them look like they lack a neck, and it also makes them have problems to turn around to look, needing to move their body completely if they want to look to the side.
>>
>>89823764
Northern trolls are nomads, moving around the continent in search for prey. They are hunter-gatherers, moving north during the summer seasons and south during the winter, chasing the giant megafauna of the continent. They are fairly intelligent for trolls, and while they are unable to craft most tools due to their low dexterity, they are able to trade with the smaller races in search for anything that they could use. Many northern trolls are hired by towns to deal with a particularly nasty predator, in exchange for giving them the weapons needed to hunt it down. This is particularly done by fey populations, where as humans are more distrustful of the trolls, since them eating their cattle is not uncommon.
>>
>Mermaid Trolls
Mermaid trolls are one of the many species of trolls in Giantstep. Mermaid trolls are perhaps the strangest of all troll groups, as instead of living a terrestrial or amphibian lifestyle, they have developed a fully aquatic existence. Mermaid trolls have lost their legs and have replaced it for a paddle-shaped tail, similar to that of manatees. They have also developed something akin to gills, but they are often inefficient, and need to come to the surface to breathe. Their skin is leathery but smooth, often overgrown with algae that grow on it. Their arms have elongated into being much larger than those of other trolls, and most of the time they keep them attached to their bodies to avoid increasing friction while swimming. Their eyes are smaller and have no nose, breathing through their mouth, which can open to massive proportions, having webbed cheeks to allow the jaws to open as much as possible.
>>
>>89825054
Mermaid trolls are a fully aquatic species, moving through the depths of the sea to eat whatever they can find at the bottom of the waters. They use their powerful arms to beat any fish from the deep, usually camouflaging at the bottom and them launching their attack. They have a surprising level of accuracy, and are capable of grabbing fish while swimming. Their hands are covered in scales that increase the friction. If they grab a fish, it will either be unable to escape or be cut upon the palms of their hands, weakening it so they can swim to get it. Mermaid trolls are only capable of going into depths of around 200m, as the pressure beyond that is too much for their bodies. They are not particularly fast creatures, and they have to be weary of sharks. Shark grappling is a very frequent activity in trolls, as they often hunt in the same waters. Many mermaid trolls often wear collars full of shark teeth to prove their strength.
>>
>>89825072
Mermaid trolls are able to speak and communicate with others. Sailors often use them to find treasures beneath the water in exchange for whatever fish they have left. However, for the most time, fishermen have to be careful of mermaid trolls, as they tend to break the nets of fishing seas to get to the captures inside. Mermaid trolls are also capable of latching to the bottom of big vessels to hitch a ride inadvertently, making them capable of sailing great distances with little effort.

Anatomy Description: Humanoid felines, wide range of shapes and sizes. The Servalala of the Zulutaur Steppes are either closely related, or a clan from the same Joois subrace that split off from the rest of the race.

Society Description: Nomadic family clans that form mercantile caravans. There are a few exceptions, like the Servalala, who follow a primitive lifestyle of nomadic hunting (but are still regarded as untrustworthy and greedy).

Geographic Extent: Level 3. Found mostly in the Joois Clans region (Joois Special Territory), plus some other western nations. Historically moved around much of the world, small pockets exists in many nations that still tolerate them including Badgassi, Zulutaur Steppes, Maneater Islands, and Faarowt.

Anatomy Description: Humanoid owls.

Society Description: Owlmen are few in number and likely almost extinct. However, due to their long lives (over 700 years) and sharp memories, they generally fill positions of authority at Biblion, including all of the ruling council.

Geographic Extent: Level 1. Fairly rare even in Biblion. Sometimes they travel abroad to seek new knowledge or become advisors in foreign courts, but even then they rarely leave Zemyland.

>Ludenite Ratmen
Ludenite Ratmen is a species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. The ludenites used to be part of the ancient Merfolk Empire, before the betrayal of Uun and the curse of the empire by their previously protecting deity. The ludenites were transformed into rat-like beings, restless and impulsive. While this change was horrifying to onlookers, many counted their blessings, as many of the curses of Uun had been much harsher for their victims.
>>
>>89830127
Ludenite Ratmen are humanoid rats, with a height of 1.33 meters. They tend to walk with a hunched position, as their bones aren’t that optimal to walking upright anymore, and when they are not in the presence of other sentient species or in case of an emergency, they revert to walking on all fours. They have a massive snout, full of uneven teeth, with two front incisors that are too big to be inside their mouths. These incisors never stop growing, and they need to gnaw on something or file them to avoid them overgrowing to the point of threatening their health. They have a heightened sense of hearing and smell, at the cost of being nearly blind. They are partially colorblind, seeing the world in mostly shades of blue. Ludenite ratmen have a long tail, around two-fifths the size of their body. This tail can be quite dexterous, but the ratmen need to constantly practice throughout their lives to truly make it prehensile. Ludenite ratmen have fur covering most of their body, and while this body is very vulnerable to parasites, it also protects them from humidity, and helps them swim. They are very effective swimmers, capable of paddling for great distances. Ludenite ratmen dedicate quite a lot of time to groom each other, to keep themselves from parasites and other skin diseases.
>>
>>89830135
Ludenite ratmen have a very fast metabolism. Their heart rate is around 200 bpm, and this makes them look twitchy and nervous. They are not capable of focusing on tasks for too long, often moving from one task to another without finishing either. It also means they need to eat very frequently, as they burn through their energy reserves very quickly. Fortunately for the ratmen, they are highly omnivorous, capable of eating most things, even when the quality is questionable. This fast metabolism also makes them more vulnerable to vampirism, since the disease spreads throughout their bodies at a much faster rate.

Ludenite ratmen have a very short lifespan of around 35 years. The child mortality within them is considerably high, due to both the dangers of Luden and the many health complications a child can develop until adulthood. However, this is balanced by the high reproduction rates. Each female can reproduce once every two years, giving birth to 5-10 newborns. Mothers are highly protective of their spawn, and work hard to keep them fed and healthy, though the dangers of Luden mean they often need to prioritize feeding the strongest of the bunch.
>>
Also, this reminds me a lot of the Luden stuff was not added to the wiki.
>>
>Zulutaurs
Zulutaurs are one of the species of mammalian beastfolk living in Giantstep. Zulutaurs are a kind of centaur, with an upper part of humanoid shape and a lower half of a zebra. They measure around 2.65m of height, a height they use to great effect as archers or as spear throwers. Their lower half has a striped black and white coloration, used to camouflage themselves within the tall grass of the steppes, especially when alongside other zulutaurs. They are powerful runners, having great stamina to chase their prey all throughout the savannah, though they are somewhat fragile as well. Wounds to their legs are incredibly difficult to heal, especially without proper treatment, and a broken leg usually means death. Their humanoid upper half tends to be very slender, but with surprising muscle strength. Their fur tends to disappear at the height of the bellybutton, looking more like a human body, but with certain differences. In particular, their ears are identical to those of an equine, and their hair usually has the same black and white coloration their equine part has.
>>
>>89831885
Zulutaur culture is rather strange. They are an incredibly violent species, with each zulutaur tribe waging near constant warfare with the other zulutaur tribes nearby. Their religion is one center around dualities. As their black and white stripes, they see the world in binary terms, always trying to differentiate what is the foundation and what the addition. This leads them to commit bloody atrocities against those zulutaurs that do not share the tribes’ particular vision of the world, with some of the most brutal acts seen being skinning their defeated opponents and wearing their hides as trophies. However, despite this level of brutality, the zulutaurs are surprisingly gentle and cordial with other species. Many zulutaurs believe they are a chosen species, with their knowledge of the duality of the world elevating them over the rest of mortal beings. As such, they treat other sentient creatures with a mix of cordiality, pity and contempt, as they never had the chance to know the secrets of the universe as they do. Whereas other zulutaurs, however, they are just as elevated as them, but choose to follow heretical beliefs, leading them to war.
>>
>>89831895
Zulutaur foals grow within an environment of war, always on the move pursuing their prey and fighting their zulutaur neighbors. It is very frequent that a zulutaur foal will be captured one or two times before adulthood into another tribe, either as a prisoner for future exchange or to integrate within the tribe to increase its numbers. Many do not mind this, as their “might makes right” philosophy means they are weak and will become stronger due to being in the winning tribe. It’s only when a zulutaur reaches adulthood when they pledge allegiance to whatever view of the world they choose to have, and they will keep it until the day they die.

where are the main contributors of artistic culture?
id imagine perhaps the orange marquisiates have had many authors, poets and playwrights, perhaps even some actors have grown enough reputation to be known across a few nations
there are some well known classic eastern works, epics and novels from the azan empire, translations and contemporary works from the zapalovach republic region and spoken word pieces from thereby
then canvas or artists of other mediums are known to be from florinth, or perhaps move to there for work. there is a growing scene in the kingdom of tarot due to the availability of alchemic materials to be used in visual art pieces
changri la empire culture is venerated in the south and south western nations of giantstep, and while specialist collectors and travellers do praise it highly, their work is sometimes seen as a novelty, either as 'old fashioned' or leaning too much on the times before the peasant revolt. here the song and poetry tradition is very strong and well known, even among the lower tiers of society
outside of hymns, chants and songs, very little music has made itself known across the entirety of giantstep, instrumental, operatic and other pieces are very much contemporary, and regionally known at best, often kept in the upper to middle circles of society
>>
>>89831978
I imagine there's a great divide between the regions. There've been multiple mentions of the western elven empire having their golden age of culture and arts at the same time they were fracturing into oblivion. Azan and the Khenomeric Empire, as the main empires in the setting, probably have influenced a lot. The Merfolk as well, but their art might be seen as "cursed" now due to its relation to Uun.

This doesn't tell me much. Where in the lore is this established?

I just realized there is not an overview for beastfolk. Let me write something.

>Beastfolk
Beastfolk are a group of sentient species living in the world of Giantstep. The term “beastfolk” is poorly defined, as it more or less includes any species that could be described as a humanoid creature with animal characteristics, or an animalistic creature with humanoid characteristics. As such, it is the classification with the biggest amount of species out of all categories of sentient species. However, the numbers of most beastfolk races are relatively few, and are limited to certain geographical areas, being much less widespread than humans, dwarves or fey.

What exactly makes a species a beastfolk depends on the expert, and the criteria used. The term “beastfolk” was created by humans, to describe creatures who could basically be described as humans with animal features. It has also been adopted by fey, who have a similar description, but it comes from their creation myth. Many fey believe that the first sentient species were a result of the gods, racing with each other to create the perfect race to populate the world. After they created the fey, they began to run out of bits and parts, and thus they had to use animal parts. The remaining parts were thrown out as waste, giving birth to humanity. Fey see most beastfolk as creatures more in tune with nature than humans, but still in a lesser way than the fey.
>>
>>89835236
Any more ideas for the general description of beastfolk?

>>
>>89839718
servalala - yes
gilgemashi catfolk - no, they are basically liontaurs
>>
>Pigfolk
Pigfolk are one of the many species of Beastfolk living in Giantstep. Slightly smaller than humans, they are considered cruel creatures, frequently seen in some areas of Southern Giantstep. Their head resembles that of a warthog, with a pig-like snout and curved tusks. They have a hunched posture, as their head is too big to keep upright. They also have a tail, but seems more vestigial than anything, as it is too short to accomplish anything but swatting flies. They are not particularly smart, with an intelligence between ogres and trolls. This allows them to create crude weapons both to defend themselves and as tools for hunting and thievery.
>>
>>89839862
The main characteristic of pigfolk is envy. A pigfolk will always want more that what they have, and especially if they see someone else have it. It does not matter they have no use for many things they see, they will try to appropriate them by force if necessary. This envy sees them stealing items for no other reason to make other reason that someone else doesn’t have them, to the point of torture of death. They are incredibly vicious in their attempts to steal others’ properties, using what little intelligence they have to separate passersby from their wares. They do not even keep most things they steal, they just abandon them on the wilderness, but as long as others do not have them, they are satisfied. This has made pigfolk notorious bandits and thieves, and are generally kept away from civilized society as much as possible, since they are generally causes of trouble.
>>
>>89839874
>This envy sees them stealing items for no other reason to make other reason that someone else doesn’t have them
Typo.

This envy sees them stealing items for no other reason than to make sure someone else doesn’t have them.
>>
>>89839884
Pigfolk tend to work alone, as any group of pigfolk will invariably devolve into infighting. However, they are intelligent enough to avoid danger when possible, and thus they keep themselves from attacking groups during the day, preferring to approach individual passersby during the night.
>>
>Urmahlullu
The Urmahlullu, also known as the Gilgemashi Catfolk, are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. Urmahlullu are a kind of centaur, with the upper body of a human and the lower half of a lion. They are terrifying creatures to behold, reaching almost 3 meters of height and 4.5 meters of length from head to tail. They are highly muscular, both in their feline and in their human halves, easily capable of overpowering most creatures through sheer strength alone. Their human half begins at around the bellybutton, and it is frequently covered in scars of previous duels. Their human hands also have short claw-like nails, though not to the same size as their actual claws in their leonine limbs. Their eyes have slit pupils, and are reflective of the light, though they are partially color blind, being able to see only blue and yellow.
>>
>>89840249
Urmahlullu used to be much more widespread, but nowadays they are limited to a series of areas in Gilgemash. Many believe urmahlullu actually come from the Zulutaur Steppes, but they were forced to move after some great debacle, the details of it are unknown. Urmahlullu are rather reserved, and do not like to intermingle with other groups if they can avoid it. They keep to themselves, living in the outskirts of the cities. The fact they have to live in environments clearly not designed for them also strengthens the theory they come from somewhere else. The natural strength of the urmahlullu has made them work as mercenaries and bodyguards, as very few are brave enough to threaten the safety of their lords.
>>
So I was going to continue with the man-beasts, but there seems to be no info about what they actually are. The most I've found is a bit from the zulutaur steppes:

>Man Beasts – Cousins to the hogmen (neither resemble hogs), they seem to be genetically compatible with humans and orcs, which can led to problems when the raid for mates. Foreign humans hate them, and orcs sometimes enslave them, but most other Steppe inhabitants see them as just another hunter-gatherer race that minds its own business most of the time.

So what are they? This seems to imply they are similar to hog men, who are ape-people. But other than that, I have nothing. Any ideas?
>>
>Hippotaurs
Hippotaurs are one of the many beastfolk species living in the world of Giantstep. Hippotaurs are a kind of centaur, with the upper half of a human and the lower half of a hippopotamus. They are around 3m of height and almost a ton and a half of weight. Their lower half is covered by a thick and dense subdermal blubber, protecting them from damage, with only piercing damages being able to truly hurt them. They are so dense in fact, that they are unable to float in water, which combined with their bulk and weight, makes them able to just cross fast and dangerous rivers by just strolling underwater. They can hold their breath for a long time, so drowning is not usually an issue. Their upper half is also filled with blubber, with their strong muscles hidden under layers of fat. While this may give them an unathletic look, they are in fact quite strong, capable of impressive physical feats of strength and speed. Their heads have no ears, and their mouth is twice the width of a human’s, with two pairs of tusks coming out of it, too big to fit within their mouth.
>>
>>89840777
Hippotaurs feed on mostly vegetables, and they usually work within lakes and rivers, planting algae and underwater fruits to eat. They also grow other fruits in dry land, such as watermelon, cantaloupe, melon, orange and pineapple. They need to eat a great deal of food each year, and to save energy, they spend many hours each day under the shade or beneath the water. This also means that hippotaurs usually live outdoors, not building any structures beyond anything needed for gardening or for shade. Hippotaurs protect their gardens fiercely, charging against any would-be thief with murderous intent.

Hippotaurs are very peaceful creatures, not bothering with the wars of their neighbors, content with living a quiet life full of tranquility. This does not mean they cannot fight, but they do not have any inherent warrior element in their culture. They also try to help those who seem in need, though they are smart enough to figure out who is trying to take advantage of their hospitality. Hippotaurs can spend many hours meditating during their free time, seeing as a way to commune with nature and with the world.
>>
>Satyr
Satyrs are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Satyrs are around 1.25m of height, having a look of a slender human with goat legs. Their legs are proportionally shorter than human legs, and often they are seen walking tiptoeing just to gain a bit of height. This also makes them look like they jump everywhere they go. Their upper half is similar to that of a human, but thinner. Males have a great deal of chest hair, something not present in females. They have a small tail, which somewhat resembles that of a goat. Their heads are elongated, with the males having great curly horns, while the females have only small stumps. Their forehead is very thick, and they can easily take hits to the head without issue. Satyrs also tend to live near fey. Their love for nature and their laid back way of life fits well within fey populations.
>>
>>89840916
Satyrs are lovers of sensation. They enjoy feeling the world around them in any way they can, and this often is seen in their ties to art creation. Satyrs are great artists, with many famous satyrs being composers, musicians, painters, singers… They also enjoy nature and the world around them. This often sees them being the life of the party during any kind of celebration. This leads them to ingest great quantities of alcohol, and while satyrs are resistant to drunkenness, their small size means they eventually fall prey to it. A drunken satyr is a strange thing to behold, as most of their inhibitions are unleashed and become capable of great feats of bravery (or foolery, as many would call it). Satyrs will drink most alcohols, but they prefer wine.

Also, they were written prior to it being made clear that the joois come in many different physical forms, so the fact they resemble servals isn't that special anymore. They probably branched off from the other joois clans long ago, and therefore don't have the same religion or oral traditions, nor is it possible for modern scholars to be 100% sure they are related
>>
>>89843510
It would have to be a very small kingdom that is a part of an existing nation. Location would be dependent on the culture of the kingdom, we got most real world cultures and fantasy tropes present here in one form or another

In terms of demons, most are associated with some form of sin, but we have some dragon demons, elemental demons, etc
>>
>>89844214

>>89844261

The kingdoms have been established already. The entire history of the world is more or less done. That part of the lore is pretty much set, and I don't think adding more is something we should do.
>>
>>89843510
>a kingdom of woman mages is fighting a losing war against dragon-riding demons

I think there is a problem of scale here. If you add something so monumental as demons riding dragons, it wouldn't make sense in the setting (that's not how dragons work, that's not how demons work, there's no way something so big can be contained within a diminute part of the map, there's no way some of the big powers hasn't noticed already...).

There are many fragmented and politically divided areas with little lore: Ingurland, the Orange Marquissates, Dsryvth, Furlaniya, the Drow City States... If you want to add something to them, read their lore and add something that fits their lore and scale.
>>
>>89844129
>a more hostile version of hog men
That's difficult, hog men are rather violent. Any difference besides behavior? Otherwise we can just group them together.

>More primitive culture
Same that with the above. If they are that similar, I imagine they should be grouped together.
>>
>>89846112
you can just group them together if you want
>>
>Chorts
Chorts are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Chorts are believed to be the result of the experiments made by the mysterious creature known as “The Black Devil”, who made the chorts in its image for purposes unknown. They are humanoid creatures, with a sickly and emaciated body and the head of a goat. Their human skin is somewhat ashen grey, with random spots of fur. Their hands are elongated, with extremely long arms and fingers, giving them an uncanny appearance. Their goat eyes are a bright yellow, and are able to shine in the dark. Chorts have been corrupted over the years due to their demon worshiping ways, welcoming demonic corruption within themselves. This leaves a dent within their bodies, with frequent scars of self-mutilation, bulging cancer or bite mark caused by other chorts.
>>
>>89847015
Chorts are hateful creatures that revel in the destruction and suffering of those around them. Local populations actively hunt them down, trying to keep them far from their homes, as there have been cases of chorts silently entering villages and gutting the locals while still alive, leaving them screaming while their entrails lay in the snow. A chort raid will also see them stealing anything they can use as a weapon, especially focusing in iron items, as they cannot practice metallurgy on their own.

Chorts are considerably intelligent, and they will use this intelligence to praise the demons they worship as much as possible. From the sacrifice of other sentient creatures, taking the form of torture or execution, to the ritualistic dances during full moon, they are creatures to be avoided at all costs. They usually stitch the skin of their victims to their own, seeking to gain their strength. A chort that has managed to survive for long and has managed to obtain many sacrifices will look wrinkly and putrid, as the skin rots and begins to decompose their own. Their use of dark magic tends to consume them, especially once they actually manage to seal a pact with a demon.
>>
Are chorts and goatmen the same?

>Fauns
Fauns are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Fauns measure around 1.35 meters of height accounting for their antlers, having a humanoid body with deer legs and features. They are more robust than the satyrs, especially the male fauns, which are outright muscular in comparison. Their heads are somewhat bigger, with the male fauns sporting a pair of antlers. These antlers only appear in males, and grow all throughout the year, falling only after the birth of each of their sons. They also tend to be covered in a species of climbing plant that has evolved to live in the antlers, blossoming when a faun is romantically interested in another.
>>
>>89850310
Like satyrs, fauns are lovers of sensation and arts. Unlike satyrs, however, fauns are much more restrained, preferring to discuss and debate about the nature of the world. They might spend days arguing about some aspect of existence, all while playing some instrument as ambiance. During certain moments of the year, fauns reunite to celebrate great art competitions, mostly music and poetry. Despite their talents for arts, the world in general regards satyrs as the superior artists, as their less restrained nature is able to garner more creativity and imagination than the moderate fauns are. Fauns are also well known for having a great sense of direction, always managing to find their way even through the densest and darkest forests.
>>
>Ketlovian Werewolves
Ketlovian werewolves are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. A strange case within the many sentient species living in the world, as the origins of the ketlovian werewolves is not natural, but in fact, the result of a magical curse. Ketlovians used to be humans until the “curse of the dancehall” was put upon all ketlovians. Ketlovians show all signs typical of lupine lycanthropy, having a humanoid form mixed with that of a wolf, but in a much more harmonious way. They are near 2 meters of height, with the head of a wolf. Their hands have somewhat morphed into paws, though they still preserve most of their dexterity. Their feet are also a mix between human feet and lupine paw. Their senses are as acute as those of wolves, though they are completely colorblind.
>>
>>89850532
The legends of the mysterious woman who damned the ketlovians into a bestial form have been studied for centuries by historians and wizards, trying to discover the secrets of the actual curse. The magic used by the witch is unknown, and many efforts have been made to understand the actual intricacies of the “curse of the dancehall”, as a possible cure for lupine lycanthropy. The ketlovian curse differs from lupine lycanthropy in that they are fully in control of their bestial form, but their ability to turn back into a human has disappeared completely, living their entire lives as werewolves. The body of actual lycanthropes shows signs the disease is consuming their bodies with each transformation, ending up looking mangy and sickly as the human part tries to fight the disease. Ketlovian werewolves do not suffer from that, as they have truly lost their human biology, though they are more vulnerable to diseases that affect wolves, such as mange, rabies and certain internal parasites.
>>
>>89850535
For all intents and purposes, ketlovian werewolves have a human culture typical of Eastern Giantstep. The Kingdom of Ketlovia was one of the oldest nations in the world before their conquest by the Gnoll Empire, and as such, they used to be a proud people. Their defeat at the hands of the gnoll has driven them into a critical position, having lost near half of their total numbers during the war, and have been forced to be vassals to the Gnoll Emperor. The few ketlovian werewolves who took refuge in the old province of Setlovia still fight the gnoll to this day, launching attacks against the empire from the protection of the Forest of Bloody Vengeance.

>>
>Centaurs
Centaurs are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. They are one of the more widespread of the beastfolk, with communities in many corners of Giantstep, though their numbers are always low. Centaurs are one of the quintessential examples of beastfolk, having two torsos at once: an upper humanoid half and a lower half of a horse. The internal anatomy of a centaur is full of redundancies, and the way the two halves interact with each other is something only experts fully understand. Centaurs have four lungs, a pair on each half of their bodies, working in tandem to oxygenize their body. Their massive heart is located within the horse half, and it is much bigger than those of common horses. Most of their organs are, in fact, located in the lower half of their body, with the upper torso containing just lungs and a stomach they use to digest their food multiple times before continuing its way through the digestive system.
>>
>>89851495
Centaurs are very tall, around 3 meters of height, and are considerably bulky and strong. The males are generally bald, while the females have a strange hair coloration. Their hair usually ranges from white to light brown, usually mixing multiple color strains at once, whereas their lower half’s hair coat can have a wide of colors and patterns similar to those found in horses. Centaurs are often very isolationists, walking across the land in a never-ending travel, and avoiding other sentient species if they had the chance, though they will tolerate more fey entities. They hunt their prey through archery, being very skilled at shooting while galloping. Centaurs also have a warrior culture, though not in the normal sense of warfare. They will partake in ritualized combat where two centaurs try to grapple each other to the ground.
>>
>>89851498
Centaurs travel in familiar herds. Centaur families need to dedicate quite a lot of time to their foals, as they are unable to fend for themselves for a very long time. While they are able to move around and follow the adults, they are very dependent on their parents for feeding, defense and general learning. Centaurs spend a great deal of time finding the perfect mate, and centaur males will fight each other to near death in order to impress their potential lover. Centaurs live around 100 years, with them reaching adulthood at 20 and beginning old age at 50, with them gradually becoming more and more ill and weak afterwards. Both males and females beyond 50 years old are incapable of breeding, being relegated to defending and teaching others’ foals in the herd. This only makes them capable of having foals for around a period of 30 years, and with gestation periods of an entire year, procreation is something they consider a high priority by all centaur society.
>>
>>89850705
Same for the babbooki. Also, Ekhidna are a type of mermaid, so they ought to go into seafolk.
>>
>Yakfolk
Yakfolk are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. Yakfolk are massive creatures said to be cursed by the demonic entity known as Gogotha, with the head of a yak, a body of a human and bovine legs. They are humanoid in a very limited sense, as their bodies have very distorted proportions, their small bovine legs are unable to keep their full weight on their own, and as such, they walk on all fours. Using the knuckles of their gigantic hands, they walk across the mountains in search of food and other resources. Their heads are bigger than even those of yaks, and need to be rested upon massive shoulders. They can measure up to 2.5 meters of height, and weight a quarter of a ton. Their mouth has many fangs and dagger-like teeth, and they can open their mouth much wider than one might expect a bovine skull to be able to. Their tail is prehensile, used to help with the climbing.
>>
>>89853857
Yakfolk are believed to be humans that fell into the worship of Gogotha, and were slowly cursed to be intertwined with their charges, until a single being remained. Yakfolk are intelligent beings, at least as much as a human, and are not ignorant of the disgust the local people have for them, especially due to their demonic worship. They prefer to be left alone, tending to their own cattle of yak and sheep, safe for the rare events when they need a human sacrifice for their deity. They usually try to steal babies from their cribs, something incredibly difficult due to their great size making them very bad at stealth. Local populations are recommended to avoid moving across the mountains with their newborns, least they get kidnapped throughout their journey.

>The Curse causes all Ketlovians to take the form of a wolf or wolf-human hybrid when they begin to feel strong emotions. Some, like the royal family of House Thraca, can control this and can choose when to morph.
So if they can transform back and forth, they are not a species, they are just cursed. Everything else ccould be added to the ketlovian page.

>Owlmen
Owlmen, or Minerves as they call themselves, are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. A mysterious and secretive group, owlmen have lived in the metropolis of Biblion for millennia, protecting the greatest library the world has ever known, Owlmen are avian humanoids, with many features resembling an owl. Their arms have a bone structure more resembling to wings than regular human arms, and they are covered in feathers. At the end of their arms, owlmen have clawed hands, which are dented enough so that they do not damage the books while reading. Owlmen are around the same size as a human being, but much lighter, due to reduced musculature and hollow bones. Owlmen vision is one of the best in the world, and it never degrades over time. However, they cannot move their eyes individually, and they have to turn their heads if they want to look elsewhere, something they can do easily as their neck can turn 180º.
>>
>>89861465
It is not known whether the owlmen could fly at a certain point or not. Owlmen legends tell the tale of how the gods saw the works of the sentient creatures, and wanted to preserve and protect them for all eternity. The gods then took a group of owls and infused them with sentience, putting them in the furthest and most remote place in the world to compile and protect all the written works in the world. Owlmen take this devotion for books to heart, with many owlmen regularly travelling the land in search for books not yet added to the Library of Xandrilex. Owlmen spend all their lives organizing and categorizing every piece of written text they have ever found. They also dedicate a great deal of time to make copies of each book to keep them from being lost from the ravages of time. This was particularly important after the Great Biblion Fire in 2.561 ABE, which saw a good portion of their archives lost. After the disaster, owlmen have organized a much more comprehensive copying system, using to the fullest extent the printing press, carving deeper and deeper into the land for space for new books.
>>
>>89861473
Owlmen have very long lifespans, and are believed to live around 200 years old. The more powerful and wise of the owlmen, the members of the Owl Council, can live up to 700 years, as their wisdom and work allows them to expand their lifespans as much as possible to continue with their work. Owlmen can only lay three or four eggs throughout their entire lives, and the younglings are cared for in a communal way. They are taught all spoken and written languages the owlmen have discovered, and they are sent to organize many of the tasks needed in the library, from cleaning to checking on the good condition of the books. After they become adults, owlmen can choose between working in the library and travelling the world in search for new books, with most owlmen preferring to stay in Xandrilex.

>Harpies
Harpies, also known as vulturefolk, are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. Harpies are a very widespread group, living in many areas of Western Giantstep and Scimitarian. Harpies measure around 1.33 meters of height, though they often look smaller due to their hunched position. They have a very avian pose and physiognomy, with bird talons instead of hands and feet. Their nose is made out of a hardened material, functioning as a beak of sorts. Both their limbs and their back are covered by feathers, usually leaving many bald spots. Northern harpies tend to develop green and red coloration in their plumage, whereas the southern ones develop a brown and black one. On their back, they have a pair of wings. Harpies cannot fly, but they can glide for long periods of time. To do so, they tend to climb to high places such as cliffs and mountains, and then jump, using the inertia to search for food or victims. Harpies are very good climbers, ascending most surfaces with their sharp claws. They are also very light and thin, helping them stay in the air for long, and thus they have to avoid prolonged fights, as they are very physically weak.
>>
>>89862193
Their vocal chords are much different from those of many creatures. This means they talk in a frequency that to the rest of sentient beings sound as undecipherable screech. However, some harpies learn to use these frequencies to create alluring sounds for the weak minded. They use these sounds to create traps for rival harpies or whoever is around. Most harpies live in tribal groups, with the females hunting and the males tending to the eggs and the newborn. The hatchlings grow very fast, as they can eat quite a lot of food, and by the age of 7 they are as tall adults, though they reach adulthood at 15. Harpy lifespans are around 50 years, and most of the time they die much younger than that, since their violent tendencies cause frequent infighting, succumbing to their wounds after a while.
>>

Harpies are led by a matriarch, the oldest and strongest of the tribe, though it is very common to see two matriarchs leading at once, in case one of them falls in battle or during a hunt. Harpies seldom do anything but hunt or practice banditry, since their short temper and violent tendencies make for poor merchants, and their carnivore-only diet makes agriculture pointless. However, some groups use harpies as scouts, though this only works so far as harpies are not capable of true flight, and can only stay in the air gliding, which limits their effectiveness quite a lot.Harpy religion is very animistic, revolving around the many spirits that dwell in the land. According to harpy legend, the original harpies were capable of true flight, but an envious god broke their wings from within, condemning them to a live on the ground. Their worship of the sky takes many forms, from ritualistic dances to honor fights during storms and typhoons. They also worship the suns, the moons and the stars, as the things that keep the sky in its place.

>Kikimori
Kikimori, also known as kikimora, are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Kikimori are creatures that live in swamps, and are used to the dark and damp conditions of the many bogs in the step. Kikimori have a humanoid complexion, though slender and shorter than most humans, measuring around 1.5 meters of height. Their hands and feet are instead bird claws, sharp enough to leave marks in stone. Their head is avian in complexion, with a massive beak covering most of their face. The shape of their beak varies depending on the region they live in, and kikimori can identify each other’s’ origins by looking at their beaks. They have a long neck, usually covered in very dense plumage to avoid any harm, and also to protect them from the cold and the humidity of the swamps. Their skin is ashen grey, though it tends to become purple the longer a kikimori lives.

Kikimori are said to be a corrupted species, affected by the dark magic of the swamps of the Bog Witch, and from there, they expanded to others swamps in the world. In what way they have been cursed, though, it is a matter of speculation. Kikimori are hunter-gatherers, seeking anything edible in the dangerous swamps, from plants to meat to other sentient creatures. They have a “might makes right” mentality, and have little sense of pity, empathy or remorse. Kikimori live in tribes, located in areas dry enough to lay their nests without issue. They tend to form tribes of 20-30 individuals, with a dominant chieftain who monopolizes as many females as possible. The position of chieftain is a hard fought one, with frequent clashes between the young upstarts and the old leaders, with the leader eventually succumbing to their mounting wounds and age, only for the process to begin anew. The females tend to their nests, but once a kikimori reaches a certain age, the mothers sever all connection with their spawn, forcing them to survive on their own alone.
>>
Those kikimori who dwell in dark magic or are twisted further by the darkness of the swamp are known as “cursed kikimori”. Their form becomes more distorted and they grow sharp teeth on their beaks, giving them an uncanny look. Frequently, corrupted kikimori tend to serve the dark powers of the swamps, as their corruption has bind them irreparably to them.

>Ostrichfolk
Ostrichfolk are of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Ostrichfolk are notorious within avian beastfolk, as they follow a centaur pattern, with the upper half of their body being humanoid and the lower half being that of an ostrich. They have long, powerful legs, allowing them to run extremely fast through the savannah. These avian legs are also very powerful for kicking, especially when taking into account their powerful claws that can disembowel most creatures in the savannah if the kick connects. Their lower half is covered by a dense plumage, with the males having black and white coloration and the females having a brown and white coloration. They also have a pair of wings, though these seem vestigial, as they are too small and clumsy to do anything with them, much less fly. Their upper half is humanoid, with both males and females lacking any body hair. They are completely bald, though they tend to cover themselves with clothes made out of their own fallen feathers. Their hands are slightly clawed, but otherwise look like regular human hands. Ostritchfolk have no bellybutton, as they reproduce through eggs.
>>
>>89862624
Ostrichfolk are vegetarians, and are unable to process meat. They feed off many kinds of grains and fruits growing in the savannah, which they usually harvest in small, individual farms. These farms are isolated and far from the rest of the civilized societies, preferring a life of solitude. At most, they live in familiar groups, with young ostrichfolk couples seeking a bit of land to work once they marry. They are self-reliant and self-sustaining, though it is frequent to see ostrichfolk in the towns and cities, seeking to buy farm tools and items or sell their produce. While they are not carnivore, they do take care of cattle, mostly pack animals like horses, donkeys or camels, as they need them to bring their produce to the market.
>>
>>89862632
Ostrichfolk families are very irregular, with families that can range from a single child to more than ten children. Ostrichfolk lay a single egg per batch, a massive egg that needs a year to hatch. The long gestation period makes ostrichfolk eggs very vulnerable to all kinds of problems: humidity, temperature, predators, diseases… Ostrichfolk mothers spend most of the day protecting the egg, taking turns with the father to keep it warm and clean throughout the entire process. Still, the many risks they have to deal with make most ostrichfolk eggs not survive the process. Ostrichfolk try to lay an egg every single year, just in case they do not survive, hence the massive demographic ranges. Ostrichfolk families with more than three children are considered blessed by the spirits of the wild, and have a high status within the ostrichfolk community, with their children being quite popular as marriage candidates. Ostrichfolk youngsters tend to travel around once they are big enough to leave their home but are not married yet, usually hired as messengers and scouts by other groups.

So is it froglings or froglins? I see both versions in the wiki.

>Toadlings
Toadlings are one of the many beastfolk species living in Giantstep. Toadlings are amphibian creatures with a humanoid shape. They have a hunched posture, hiding their roughly human equivalent height. Their skin is dense and full of warts and poison sacks, and while it is more resistant to dryness than other amphibian beastfolk, it does need frequent humidity not to deteriorate. Their hands and feet are similar to those of toads, with massive proportions in comparison to those of humans, and with webbed skin between their digits to help swimming across the swamps. They have a bellybutton, though unlike in mammalians, this is not the result of birth, but it is instead a hole through which they secrete poisons and venoms. They have no neck, and their toad-like head is filled with small bone spikes, which grow all throughout their lives at a very small rate. Their constant poisonous secretions keep them well protected from skin parasites and attacks from most creatures, though there are still plenty of beings resistant to their venom.
>>
>>89864392
Toadlings are very peaceful when compared to other beings of the swamps. They are scavengers, finding anything that could be of use from the bogs and seeking to trade it with anyone interested. They are always carrying their wares with them, as they never know when they are going to be able to find someone interested in them, which makes them vulnerable to banditry. To defend against this, they are able to spit part of their venom from their mouths. While toadlings do not have a protractile tongue like other amphibian beastfolk, they can spew part of their venom from their mouths, enough to make creatures the size of humans sickly and dizzy, unable to stand on two legs. It is rarely lethal, but it is enough for the toadling either to run away or to finish the job.

>Hop'en
Hop'en are one of the many species of beastfolk living in Giantstep. They have often been compared with the Ecrkoecknoi from the Land of Changing Waters, and it is easy to see why. They are roughly the same size, around 1.35m of height, and share a similar weight and physiognomy. Hop’en legs are not as powerful as those of the ecrkoecknoi, but they are still capable of jumping three times their own size from a single hop. Their webbed feet are also smaller, being rougher and more prepared to walk across the jungle rather than crossing swamps. They are also capable of climbing most surfaces, but they are slower in comparison to the ecrkoecknoi. While the hop’em have a similar frog-like head, their eyes are smaller than the frogmens’, though they are still bigger than those of humans. Their eyesight is actually more balanced, having a better balance between short-range vision and long-range vision.
>>
>>89864663
The most notable element of the hop’em is their skin, full of vibrant colors, making them difficult to camouflage with the jungle. However, this is intentional, as this serves as a warning to others that their skin generates a deadly toxin. A bit of this poison will kill something in a couple of minutes if an antidote or healing magic are applied in time, and it will do so while causing excruciating pain. Hop’en rub their arrows and lances in the secretions from their skin, as they have no natural way to use this venom offensively. However, they cannot use this poison as a hunting tool, since they are not immune to it. If they ever ingest the toxin, they will suffer excruciating pain for weeks, though they are resistant enough to it to not die from it.
>>
>>89864669
Hop’en live in the depths of the chakobsan jungle, always fighting for survival against the yagura tribes. While the yagura cannot practice feasts with the meat of the hop’en, they are still valid enough for ritual sacrifices, using their skin to craft weapons against other beings. Hop’en ambush yaguran hunting parties every time they can, chopping off their heads and leaving a scenery full of spiked skulls as a warning, with their bodies left to be food for the local predators.

What are woggies? They are described as:
>Small humanoid pseudo-amphibians. They are barely sentient and serve little purpose other than sometimes as spies, but about one in every hundred has the potential to grow into a hag-like creature of moderate magical power. Mostly found on in the larger lakes.

How does that even work? If they are barely sentient, they must have a terrible intelligence. How does that benefit spying. And if they are so dumb, how can then become powerful magical hags?

We are going pretty fast with the species here...

Only some of them are corrupted.
Similiar situation as with the Samp Ogres

Any ideas for the spying issue?
>>
>>89866151
Well they work as spies for the Bogwitch what is there to explain? Somewhat like Crebain for Sauron or the Impish for the Bogwitch.
>>
>>89866220
They are described as "barely sentient", which means their intelligence is probably one of the lowest, if not the lowest, of the sentient species. And since spying needs a decent amount of skill to pull off (stealth, subterfuge, infiltration, improvisation, and so on), how can they be any good at it? Do they have an innate ability for that? And if they are so dumb, how can they know what info is useful/relevant and what isn't?

I think I have an idea to solve half of the problem. Woggies have the uncanny ability of storing memories in their blood. Even though they cannot understand most of what they see, if someone drinks their blood, they will be able to see what they've seen and heard for about a week.

How they could work as spies without being immediately detected, I have no clue.

Adorable.

Do we have a description for tieflings? They are rather important for the story of Azan, and they keep being massacred by them and yet rule the empire for long periods of time.
