Posting the history of the Gökmavi. For a region memed upon for not having a lot of lore, it sure was referenced a lot elsewhere.

>History
The history of the Gökmavi people is one full of lights and shadows, with many myths and legends in place of solid facts. Most outsiders do not bother studying the history of the region, assuming the gökmavi peoples as backwards, an uncivilized and tribal raiding culture, with little of worth to study. This image is not helped by the strong resilience of many gökmavi groups to adopt the written language, even to this day. This could be further from the truth, as all those who have travelled throughout the Khaganate are witnesses to a land dotted with signs of a rich culture, thriving cities, a long and varied history and monumental stone kurgans.
>>
>>89131300
The roots of the Gökmavi are shrouded in mystery. The most accurate version of the early days of the people of the steppes is “The Tales of the Tribes”, a series of poems narrate the legends of the original roots of the Gökmavi’s predecessors. It is passed from generation to generation through non-written means, though there are several written versions in some archives, in the cities. The tales are mostly mythology and parables, telling the Gökmavi tales of gods and heroes of the steppes, and about the creation of the world. The Tales tell the history of “the first tribe”, who after offending their gods, were punished by having their green pastures dry up and turn into desert, never to return until they become worthy in their divine eyes again. They wandered the steppes for many decades, trying to find a place to call home, all while finding many creatures of myth along the way. They had to walk on foot, as the gods had killed all animal mounts they knew, and as such, they eventually forgot how to ride. Eventually, the elder chief of the tribe died, giving his power to his three sons. However, these three men were griped by many mortal sins and weakness. The eldest son was boisterous, and was proud of his strength and ability with the bow and the sword. The second son was wise but vainglorious, thinking his knowledge of the stars and the moons elevated him over the rest of the tribe. The youngest son did not have the strength nor the wisdom of his brothers, and thus grew bitter and envious. So envious in fact, that he concocted a plan to make the brothers fight each other to inherit the tribe’s leadership.
>>
>>89131318
The third brother kidnapped the wives of his brothers, and after a week of keeping them hidden, he slit their throats and abandoned the bodies in the steppes, planting evidence that had been the other brother the one to do the deed. Both the first and the second brothers were grief-stricken by their losses, and many tears were shed that day. Pain eventually led to rage, however. While the second brother saw something was amiss and tried to investigate what had happen, not believing the signs, the first brother was too enraged to think straight. In a fit of anger and pain, he slashed his brother before he could react. This act of barbarism led into a civil war, with the two halves of the tribe fighting each other. The war lasted for years, but the side of the elder brother eventually won, forcing the other half of the tribe to the east, never to be seen again. However, this war had spilt a lot of blood of their fellow tribesmen, and the elder brother now felt miserable. Having lost his wife, his brother and half of the tribes, he felt in need of penitence, and entered into a self-imposed exile, becoming a hermit for a year. Seeing this as the chance he was looking for, the third brother took control of the tribe, beginning a reign of terror and vice that made the tribe hate him. The rest of the tribe tried asking his elder brother to return, but he was not ready yet. In desperation, the people prayed to the gods for relief, and the gods answered. Seeing the treachery, the disloyalty and the depravity of the third brother, the gods turned him into a scorpion, to be hated and preyed upon for all creatures that live in the steppes, never to find peace or respite.
>>
>>89131329
Once the eldest brother returned to the tribe, he organized a great march towards the north. His pilgrimage would led to find the lands of green, with mighty rivers and ample game. The elder brother, however would not live to see it, and died of old age before arriving. His soul was taken by the great flying serpent, servant of the gods and its intermediary in the mortal realm. The tribe entered a compact with the people of the rivers, and for a time, all was good. The eldest brother’s successors intermingled with the people of the rivers, learning many things from them, even relearning the ancient arts of riding. With their alliance with the people from the rivers formed, the tribe grew mighty and prosperous. However, many signs began appearing that the people of the tribes were losing their way, living in prosperity and opulence had led them astray from their original quest of penitence. Thus, they left the rivers to go back to the steppes, this time with gathered knowledge and unified purpose.
>>
>>89131339
Trying to interpret correctly “The Tales of the Tribes” has led many experts to the conclusion that the “people from the rivers” were, in fact, the Urgun Tribes, and possibly even the twin cities of Aquilea and Caprea, which helps us date the arrival of the Gökmavi to the Urgun rivers around the 5th and 6th century ABE. Their stay nearby the poems, would last many decades, until certain matters would force them to leave the area. Many believe they left to conquer the steppes with the new knowledge and tools they had gained from the Urgun, but this also began a schism between the Gökmavi that would last for centuries: the clash between the city dwellers and the nomads. The more territory the Gökmavi claimed for themselves, the more they settled in stable populations, gaining power through trade and agriculture. However, the more land they explored, the nomads also gained more ground for their herds to graze. This translated in backlash, as both tried to convert the other into their way of life. While at first there was little tension due to the mutual service they provided to each other, over time the traditional tribal tensions and rivalries morphed into a fight for the spirit of the gökmavi.
>>
>>89131352
With each side wanting to impose their way of life on the other, and with growing ambitions of empire building, the gökmavi tribes began a series of wars in the Red Land Steppes, the different nations and tribes fighting for dominance. This would began a series of fights between the increasingly growing cities and an alliance of nomadic chiefs. This would began the Wars of the Blind Hawk, (named after one of the most famous nomadic leaders at the beginning of the conflcit), lasted between 701 ABE to 822 ABE, and expanded to a great portion of the Red Land Steppes. Many records tell that the war became a particularly brutal affair, with the nomadic raiders cutting off the cities from any supply, poisoning wells during the night and burning down the cities that fell. The gökmavi cities tried to retaliate, but the city armies were not able to mobilize as well as the nomadic raiders, which were capable of just moving around the territory without a central capital to decapitate.
>>
>>89131367
The war expanded to the Urgun rivers, who traded a lot with the young gökmavi cities. The cities asked for help to the peoples from the Urgun Plateau, who saw the threat of the gökmavi raiders as something to defeat before they could reach their homeland. This would backfire for the urgun cities, since the gökmavi raiders launched their hit and run attacks against the region, ravaging the fields near the rivers and burning down whatever they couldn’t take. While the Urgun were able to fight off the gökmavi, the damages to the Urgun cities was severe, beginning their downwards spiral into full isolation. With the defeats of the cities and the Urgun, the nomad tribes began fighting each other, clashing for the spoils. With both sides exhausted, the Wars of the Blind Hawk ended in an uneasy peace. Recovery was small, but fortunately, there was little rancor between the two sides. The cities rebuilt their lands, mostly around the rivers and lakes near the Red Land Steppes. Many of these had enormous quantities of natural salt, and thus the Gökmavi began developing ways to filter out the salt to consume water, both for personal use and to water the fields. They would also partake in the harvest of the pink rice, a type of rice that grows even under high levels of salinity, eventually becoming their near singular crop. It would take many decades for them to polish these water-filtering techniques, and it would take even longer for them to realize that the salt they were having as just fattening material for their cattle could be of high value in trade.
>>
>>89131380
The growth of the salt business meant an explosive evolution of the cities. They began creating trade routes with the rest of the world, particularly with the Urgun cities, the gilgemashi and the azanese. Azan in particular brought many advances to the Gökmavi cities, but they were very mistrusting of the empire of dragons. The expansion of the azanese through the Onyx Strip blocked the Gökmavi from accessing the Sea of the Dead Pirate, forcing the gökmavi to lose part of their profits to the azanese. Plus, the encroachment of these people within the steppes made both city dwellers and nomads very uncomfortable, after hearing the tales of the powerful empire and its expansion throughout the east. The clashes and tensions with the azanese were plentiful, but never enough to spark an all-out war. At this point, though, there was a real risk of war.
>>
>>89131389
The pressure of the nomads to the cities had made the nomads rich as well, collecting plenty of taxes and tribute. While they were not particularly high taxes, the riches brought to them were more than the humble nomads had ever seen, and fights arose between them. The different nomadic groups clashed for power and influence, beginning the first of the Horde Wars, which would become a staple in the region every couple of centuries. With the nomads fighting each other, the city-dwellers grew in power and influence themselves, but many were afraid that the infighting in the steppes would give Azan an excuse to intervene militarily. Thus, the cities began suing for peace, managing to stop the conflict between the nomads. To organize the law of the steppes and put an end to the instability once and for all, they began setting up rules of engagement and honor codes to minimize the damage the hordes did to each other in their fights for dominance. The nomads would protect the cities in case of war, and they in turn, would produce all the nomads could not, as well as begin the organization of the burgeoning nation. The nomad hordes accepted on the condition that the national power would never be in the hands of the cities, and thus their nation would never have a capital. The “Conclave of Tsa'agan” would be the first step for the creation of what we know nowadays as the Gökmavi Khaganate.
>>
>>89131404
The following centuries would see the consolidation of the Khaganate. Expanding all they could throughout the lands near the Red Land Steppes, they would manage to grow into one of the biggest “nations” in the world at the time, though its population was considerably lower than any of the big powers at the time. This was not a painless process: multiple wars with Gilgemash, multiple Horde Wars and a near war with Azan saw the steppes embroiled in conflict frequently. Still, this period allowed the Gökmavi to grow, and this saw a jump in artistic and architectural development, with many palaces, statues, canals and stone kurgans, both in and outside the cities. This period saw the final establishment of the gökmavi written language, as they had been using multiple different written formats up until that point, including azanese.
>>
>>89131414
The start of the wars against the witchelven saw the gökmavi involved in the spiral of violence that swallowed Western Giantstep for many decades. The rapid expansion of the witchelven forced the Urgun cities, the old allies of the Gökmavi, to call the nomads for help. The gökmavi quickly rallied to their aid, as they sensed the witchelven were not only malicious and cruel, but a real threat to the growing khaganate. The witchelven and the gökmavi were well even in terms of speed and nimbleness, both sides preferring fast hit and run tactics as their main method of war. The stalemate was broken with the help of the Urgun, managing to keep the witchelven at the other side of the river, but at the cost of most of the cities in the realm. The Gökmavi served with Azan against the witchelven as mercenaries, at that time in desperately need for help. However, the growing tensions within Azan finally broke into the Azanese Civil War, witch Changrila rising up against the emperor. While the Gökmavi did not have any interest in the fratricide war at first, further negotiations between changrilese and gökmavi diplomats opened the door to great gains: if the Gökmavi allied with Changrila, they would be allowed to gain control of the Onyx Strip, earning a connection to the sea, monopolyzing the salt trade all for themselves. In 2.050 ABE, the Gökmavi quickly overwhelmed the azanese forces, isolating Azan from the riches of Nosso Lar and the salt trade, and giving the advantage to Changrila once again. While the azanese forces tried to push back against the gökmavi, they were overwhelmed on many warfronts, and were forced to abandoned the region. The end of the war allowed the Gökmavi to keep the strip, since neither Azan nor Changrila had the strength to reclaim it. The final city to fall to the Gökmavi fell after the Silver Horde and the dsrvysthian city of Susar accorded the invasion of the city many years after the Kingdom of Dsrvyth crumbled down.
>>
>>89131439
The Gökmavi also took an important role in the fall of the Kingdom of Nosso Lar. The figure later known as René the “Blind Bastard”, after having survived the mysterious attempt on her life, ran to the steppes, where she found refuge within the Blue Horde, and even married a gökmavi man. Her charisma and cunning would grant them a place of honor in the tribe, but when her ambitions began outgrowing those of her fellow tribesmen, she was expelled as well. From the steppes, she and a group of gökmavi mercenaries would go to the land of the Great Norossor Peninsula, conquering the northernmost part of the region and creating the Blind Bastard’s Domain.

>Kongropikye

The kongropikye is a species of hybrid felines that lives in the realm of the Goddess of Harmony. The are creatures rarely seen, and thus the information about them is beyond scarce. The size of a tiger, their head is composed of a flower-like structure, with a massive singular eye in the middle. Sprouting from behind the vegetal head, there are multiple tentacles, allowing them to grab on to things. They are widely believed to be the judges of character chosen by the goddess, and they will watch those who cross the realm with great interest. It is said that those of pure heart and soul will be left alone, whereas those who falter in their road will be attacked by the creature's powerful claws. Its ability to mimic the environment almost seamlessly makes it a very dangerous creature.

>Centifrog
The centifrog is a species of amphibian that lives in the forests of Faarowt. A strange creature, it has developed a long body and twelve pairs of legs, as well as a pair of horns. Due to its unusual anatomy, it has lost its ability to jump, and it needs to catch its prey using its prehensile tongue. It will coil around the tree branches to search for bugs, and it will catch them due to its excellent vision and longer than usual tongue. Its main defense is a poison coat that's higly hallucinogen, which will leave the creatures who attack it stunned and unable to do. The faarowt druids use this poison to mix concoctions and substances for meditation.

If we ever get enough lore done, just taking all the lore from the wiki and putting it together into a single document, a PDF/GoogleDoc with everything as organized as possible. It is still far, FAR from being even considered, though, as after the nation lore is done (and I imagine some of those will need updating or completing), we still have to write about a lot. Plus the rules, if we ever get down to them.

But hey, we've lasted a year, I'm sure that if we continue the work we'll get this done eventually. Patience and perseverence are virtues after all.

>Sea Cow Slug
The Sea Cow Slug is a species of sea slug that lives near the coasts of Scimitarian. A big, plump and round slug, it has multiple eyes all around its body, to watch out for predators. It feeds off algae and kelp floating around in the sea, keeping them clean from excessive algae blooming. To defend itself from predators, it uses a similar method as the pufferfish, inflating its body multiple times to block predators from biting it. This, combined with it living in relatively shallow waters, makes many sea cow slugs end up stranded on the shores.

Continuing with gökmavi lore

>Society and Culture
The lands of the Red Steppes are harsh and unforgiveable. From the plains to the deserts to the salt fields, the Gökmavi must grow to be hardened and resilient. Both city-dwellers and nomads are well versed in survival techniques, from protecting themselves from the harsh sun and the cold nights to how to track game. Just the simple act of finding water is a great ordeal. Clean and clear water is considered a divine nectar, of much more value than even the highest quality mead. Every house and nomad yurt has within a canteen of pure water in a small altar dedicated to the ancestors and the gods. When having visitors of the utmost importance, those people with ties even beyond the expected obedience to the tribes (such as a friend that saved the host’s life during the war, or the arrival of the bride at her parents at the husband’s home for the first time) they will take it and all drink in ceremonial cups. The Gökmavi have developed many forms of water processing and storage, from digging natural wells, creating artificial wells and canals, using the blood of the game as a water source… The most interesting ways of filtering water come from the city-dwellers. They use two main methods to filter water, not only for their personal use, but to separate the salt from the rivers and the lakes. The first method is the use of salt cucumbers, a species of sea cucumber that accumulates water into its body to feed off the organic matter within it. Once the creature is bursting, it will expel the salt and the excrements from one orifice and the water from another, offering surprisingly clear water, though barely drinkable from the standards of outsiders. The second one is the use a system of ceramics and cloths, where the water will be passed through multiple filters until it arrives to the last ceramic container, as clean as possible. None of these methods are perfect, thus they complement them by storing rain water.

Aside from agriculture and nomadic husbandry, the salt trade is the biggest industry in the land. Many cities and towns are dedicated to extracting as much salt as possible from the lakes and rivers in the land, sending it to the coastal cities to sell to the outsiders. The value of salt in the gökmavi way of life cannot be understated, as it allows the khaganate to have a great weight in international trade, despite their relative lack of natural resources. Salt is used as a form of currency in the region, as the steppes lack important gold and silver mines. The gökmavi have dotted the land with salt statues, covered in cloths and ceramics, which are thought to be of good luck. In particular, these icons are frequent within the funerary kurgans, great underground tombs built in the steppes and the desert in honor of great leaders. The gökmavi are also known to use salt to mummify the bodies of the deceased: buried deep within the kurgans and preserved for eternity to enjoy their treasure before becoming one with the land.
>>
>>89143311
All gökmavi are exceedingly superstitious, stemming from their animistic believes and their cult to their ancestors. They believe the spirits of the steppes and those who left them long ago are still with them in one way or another, and they partake in many small rituals to keep them content and not garner their ire. They also have a great deal of symbolism. The scorpion is considered the foulest and most evil creature that lives on the land. Scorpions and all things that resemble them (from arachnids to crustaceans and anything that has pincers) is considered unholy and cannot be consumed, on the risk of staining one’s soul. This has made the apparition of Great Pincering Squids in the Salt Lakes a particularly bad omen, as they are considered devils in need of extermination. When a gökmavi commits a particularly grave crime, they will be branded by the shamans. Heating two red irons with the shape of the scorpion, they will be marked in the cheek and in the chest, and then they’ll be exiled from the steppes, never to come close to any good Gökmav. Any gökmavi that comes in contact with one of the branded has the obligation of kill them, at least if they are within the Khaganate. This has made “scorpion bandits” particularly dangerous outlaws, in particular concentrating in the Blind Bastard’s Domain, or as mercenaries in Dsrvysth.
>>
>>89143323
The Gökmavi society has divided over time between the city-dwellers and the nomadic herders. While these two ways of life have fought each other plenty of times, nowadays they enjoy a certain level of symbiosis. The nomads are not able to produce half the goods the city dwellers can (from clothes to weapons to vegetal food…), and the nomads are trained throughout their life for a harsh lifestyle perfect for warfare, defending the cities in case of trouble. Though their way of life has diverged constantly, they still share many social and cultural elements. First, the cities are exempt from the traditional clashes and rivalries of the hordes, though they are due obedience to the horde in control of their territory at the time, as well as the horde in charge of the Khaganate. The city-dwellers are not able to favor one horde over the other, but they are in charge of mediating in negotiations between them. The city-dwellers are barred from using gunpowder, though this is a minor gripe, since gunpowder is considered dirty and unworthy of the true gökmavi, relying on the traditional bow and sword. The city-dwellers are also the only ones allowed to operate and sail ships (the nomads can board ships, but are barred from sailing them, since this is considered exceedingly bad luck). The gökmavi are not particularly good sailors, preferring to hire foreign sailors for this purpose.

Finished the foreign relations of the Gökmavi. Someone else can develop more the remaining bits.

>Foreign Relations
For a nation that is generally believed to be isolated and backwards, the Khaganate has a lot of ties with the powers of both sides of the continent, with a level of influence easily comparable with the other world powers. With that said, the Khaganate is much less populated than the other empires, simply because the harshness of the steppes does not allow for major populations. The fractured division of the hordes and the cities also affects the ability of the Gökmavi to project their power outwards. Finally, their lack of a powerful navy (wood is not particularly plentiful in the steppes, with the gökmavi fleet bought from foreign shipbuilders) limits the ability for gökmavi traders to expand their influence, even to nearby territories. This means that, while they are excellent when defending their own land, most of the world only sees them as raiders and nomads of the steppes, unevolved and uncivilized, even though it is far from the truth.
>>
>>89147227
The Gökmavi monopolize the salt trade. As the first salt producer in the world by quite a margin, the Gökmavi enjoy a comfortable position in the world trade, especially when trading to the big powers, since their position allows them to sell to both the east and the west. However, they lack the reach to actually take full advantage of this position. Selling to Azan, Changrila and the Drow is difficult due to the lack of a navy of the Gökmavi, and generally are foreign ships the ones arriving to the gökmavi ports. Their inability to move their shipments on their own in a significant way leaves them dependent on foreign fleets, in particular dsrvysthian, azanese and changrilese. The salt is sold to these merchants in exchange for many exotic products and riches from far away. In particular, the gökmavi are fond of fruit of any kind, as the steppes are unable to produce but a few choice crops, and has no local fruit. This has developed into a refine cuisine focused on fruit dishes, eaten only during festivities and periods of celebration.
>>
>>89147238
To the east, most of their trade has to go through Gilgemash. While in the past Gilgemash and the Gökmavi fought multiple wars, in recent decades the relations between the two powers have mellowed out. Gilgemash is still focused on reorganizing its power and defending itself from the growing pirate threat from the Blind Bastard’s Domain, and as such, fighting the Gökmavi is not a wise move. On their part, the Gökmavi need the Gilgemashi to sell their salt to the rest of the eastern powers. The Gökmavi have even helped Gilgemash finance their fleet, as they need to keep it far from the pirates’ grasp. It is not like the Gökmavi have no dealings with the people from Moridan, but the legal business is simply much more profitable.
>>
>>89147247
To the north, business is much scarcer, since the only real clients in that area are the cities of Ghülam, Bashur and Aquilea. While exchanges with these cities is not as profitable, it is maintained due to historical reasons. Plus, the proximity of the Lustrus Breach means that keeping these cities going is essential to avoid the thread of the succubae from reaching the Khaganate’s borders. The Gökmavi also partake in fights against the witchelven, with many hordes relishing in fighting them, both due to their hatred against the witchelven, and also because they see them as a worthy hunt. The Gökmavi and the Witchelven do have similar tactics and strategies, so fights between the two are fast duels of maneuvering, trying to surround or trick the opponent into falling for faints and traps, all while arrows rain from one side to the other.
>>
>>89147257
Outside of the salt trade, many Gökmavi travel to foreign lands to serve as mercenaries, using their honed skills in fights all around the world. In particular, they are hired by dsrvythsian and gilgemashi lords to fight their wars and clashes. They have been seen fighting and hunting down the dangerous fauna in the Zulutaur Steppes.

Pambdelurion is a species of ancient arthropod that lives near the coasts of the Trolltooth peninsula. An elongated creature of around 1.5 meters of length, they are completely blind, moving around using their sense of smell and touch. Their bifurcated heads have hundreds of sensitive hairs, always in contact with the ground, helping it move around both in land and in the sea. It feeds off both plankton and fruits that are brought to the shore. To avoid the attacks of predators, they have a powerful carapace, but if this isn't enough, they can excreet certain chemicals from their mouth that irritate the threat into leaving.

Some more Gokmavi lore.

>Geography

The heart of the Khaganates is dominated by endless grassy plains. These vast steppes stretch as far as the eye can see, offering ample grazing land for nomadic herding communities that have thrived in this region for centuries. The steppe provides an ideal environment for the rearing of horses, cattle, and other domesticated animals, which form the backbone of the Gökmavi. In particularly, the areas close to the great lakes and other water bodies are the most ideal for grazing, and for that reason are highly contested between the tribes. The Gökmavi have learned to harness the resources of these rivers and lakes, constructing qanats and aqueducts, not to provide drinkable water for themselves, but as a way to slowly transistion the more arid landscapes into pockets of greenery.

Amidst the steppes, the central part of the Khaganates is also home to various salt flats which greatly contribute to the nomads' economy.

As one ventures away from the steppes, the land slowly gives way to rugged mountains, badlands and endless canyons that scar the earth. Mountain passes and valleys provide valuable trade routes that have allowed the Gökmavi to interact with their eastern neighbours, through the passage beyond realms of Dsrvyth.

>Religion

Most of the the major Gökmavi tribes' religious beliefs are rooted around totemist and shamanistic practices, which vary from tribe to tribe. Each tribe is associated with one guardian animal, of which totem's they carry around as a war banner. The Blue Horde's totem animal is the Horse, which symbolizes the nomad way of life, determination and hard work, the Black's the Shadowcat, which symbolizes cunning, stealth and agility, the Silver's a Hawk, ever so vigilant and aware of all present dangers, while the animal of the New Horde is a Stoneflesh Rhino, bulwark, unmoving and staggering.

The practices associated with Gökmavi shamanism vary as well, with the Blue Horde conducting rituals associated with fertility and farming, while the Black Horde performs sacred rituals involving the worship of the moon and the cloak of the night, and the New Horde communicate with the spirits of the earth in order to bless their miners to wield more ore. The Silver Horde shamans, known as the Windbreakers, conduct a number of rituals which they believe are able to cause favourable weather conditions for their frontier rangers.

However, there's a particular exception within the Gökmavi, and that's the Red Horde, which are not associated with the shamanistic and totemist practices of their brethren, but rather a strange, ancient faith that's almost extinct between all the other tribes. We are talking of course about the Cult of Blinding Light. The Red Tribes worship an entity known as the Nameless King, who resides over at his palace perched on top of Fehrum Edzulair's peak, ruling over the Dragongods, which he defeated long way before their decline.
>>
>>89160506
The Red Horde believe that their legendary ancestor, the Blind Hawk, was the Nameless King's companion and a famous dragonslayer at that. Even though their religious differences them make them stand apart from the rest of the tribes, they have decent relationships with each other, as the Red Tribes are not hostile towards the practicioners of other religions, yet apostasy from their own is punished by death by live burial.

Strangely enough, the existence of this cult was reported by the Khenomeric authorities way before the appearance of the Gökmavi as we now know them.

Foreign religions almost never manage to survive in the land of the Gökmavi, as few outsiders have ever managed to settle there, and those who did, had never been able to proselytize the locals in favor of their own faiths.

>Demographics

The Khaganates are comprised of nomadic humans, united mostly by various cultural practices as well as their nomadic way of life. This land has proven to be hostile and inhospitable to foreigners, so very few outsiders have settled in this place, and the only visitors from outside the Gökmavi's lands are usually either envoys or merchants, usually from Dsrvyth, Gilgemash, the Urgun Tribes and Aquilea.

Apart from humans, a species of cyclopic giants can be found to the south, living to the mountains bordering the Ettin Range, and the western mountain range is infested by various goblin tribes, who even though are numerous, pose no danger to the Gökmavi, who have learned how to deal with them or even employ them. The salt flats were once also home to a species of Giants (although not as large as the ones to the north), and the only thing remaining from them nowadays is their bones, and the odd (yet unreliable) sighting here and there. This also goes for Dragons and Wyverns, as the land of the Khaganates is said to have been a place of many drakes in the past, who are now all relics.
>>
>>89160791
Ghouls are sometimes said to live in the eastern grazelands of the New Horde, who claim that they make their homes out of hollow hills, and like to snatch away children, virgins and other pure creatures to suck out their blood.

The Gökmavi are one of the nations where there had been multiple sightings and even trials of vampires, yet all those were either of weaker, feral vampires, or fletchlings that were almost harmless. The existence of a deadly, primordial Elder Vampire deep within the canyons has cultivated fear amongst the Great Khans for millenia now.

I would like to add a bit to this
"The long presence of the azanese in the Onyx Strip has caused that many areas in the south of the khaganate have temples dedicated to the old azanese faith. While not used for their original purpose nowadays, they are maintained by the shamans, as their believes would forbid them to let a place touched by the spiritual in disrepair. In general, they are used as social centers, in particular as nursing homes and other centers of healing."

What more info could be added here?
>>
>>89166877
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Setting:Crumbling_Giantstep
>>
This needs to be added to the 2.181 ABE map.
Not all was well for Azan, though. The convulsions of war, especially those of a war as long as the Azanese Civil War, were very noticeable. Fights between the different social groups became more and more common, especially once the different groups began asking for their rewards and payments for fighting in the war. Crime was still considerable, and poverty was rampant, only really manageable due to the loss of population and the availability of land. Tensions reached a breaking point in 2.199 ABE, when tensions and accusations against the tiefling population, who had already under a lot of pressure during the war (and the mysterious events having place in Siuverland involving the Cult of Althazar), skyrocketed. An apparent murder of a noblewoman in the streets of Nanakinor left to accusations to a tiefling bandit, though proof of this was never brought forward. The hysteria extended from the capital to the rest of the nation, leading to the Second Great Purge of azanese tieflings, which lasted the entire year, with sporadic repetitions happening from time to time. Tensions and violence began slowly building up again in Azan, threatening to a breaking of the empire. This would finally be solved by Alarna Hiranu. Born in the city of Kurkuas, she was a religious figure in the local church. Sensing the growing violence in the nation was of the opinion that the Second Tiefling Purge was a symptom of a major problem, that was beginning to threaten the very fabric of the empire. She began writing a series of religious works, proposing reforms that would center about a more harmonic and peaceful way of living, using and reinterpreting old theological texts to justify the changes. While her texts were spread locally during her life, they exploded in popularity after her death.
>>
>>89167054
This led to the reformation of the Church of Azan, giving birth to the Azanese New Faith. A wave of religious enthusiasm swept the country, especially after the emperor himself converted in 2.250 ABE. While this allowed the nation to avoid another civil war, it began causing tensions with the provinces that resisted the new faith, such as the case of Siuverland, which ended up seceding in 2.308 ABE.

>Orontian Mountain Lizard
The Orontian Mountain Lizard is a species of reptile that lives near the mountains of Oront, as well within the inner plains. They are the size of a small goat, and are particularly resilient to cold for reptiles. Despite they being reptiles, they are warm blooded animals, though not to the same extent as birds and mammals. They have powerful upper scales, blocking attacks from the many birds of prey in the area, as well as from foxes and other predators. Their three pairs of limbs allow them to grab and climb the rock with ease, gripping themselves to the rock if they weel threatened. They are omnivores, eating the different kinds of plants and berries growing around the mountains, as well as eggs they find between the rocks. They cannot stand the orontian winter, though, so they will seek a cave to enter hybernation during the colder months.

Continuing with the Historical Maps, now that the lore map is done.

>Historical Maps part 16. “Day of the End”. Fall of Khoraqualumum and the Khenomeric Empire (2.476 ABE)

Here we have an approximation of the world's great powers right at the year 2.476 ABE.

The events known as The Great War of the Gnoll are scattered and difficult to interpret, especially the longer the war goes on. The sheer speed and scale of the destruction of one of the mightiest empires in history in but a mere decades utterly shocked the world, who had gotten used to the gradual fracturing of the empire. To see the Khenomeric Empire not only fall in a singular campaign, much less one against an opponent mostly thought of as feral animals, was inconceivable at the time, and for many decades, the sheer skepticism about it still was enough to allow the gnoll to invade many of the lands of eastern Giantstep. What we do know about the war comes from archives and chronicles from the survivors of the war, all those khenomeri who ran from the monsters once it was clear nothing could be done to save the empire.
>>
>>89171237
The Khenomeric Empire was a shadow of its former self. While it was still a considerably rich nation, it was far from its heyday, as powers such as Nogar and Greater Elanxa were becoming more and more prominent in the world’s politics, where the Khenomeric Empire was content with keeping what it already had. Still, the shrinking of the empire and the loss of the northern territories allowed them to shave off a lot of the sources of instability, and while politically weak, the empire was growing prosperous once again. It even maintained good relations with the nations that had broken down from them, especially those south of the Forest of Getting Lost. This even led to many to speculate a possible confederation between the khenomeri and their old vassals, but this was not to be.
>>
>>89171251
The breaking of the Ogre Kingdoms at the hands of the Bog Witch caused a massive migration of swamp ogres, the biggest ogre migration the world had ever seen. The lands near the bogs and swamps from northern Giantstep teemed with ogres, desperate to run away from the dark presence now ruling the region. All regions around them received a lot of damage due to the rampaging ogres. The Khenomeric Empire, however, felt safe from this. With the Forest of Getting Lost protecting their lands from the swarm due to its mystical nature, the only front they needed to focus on was the forests of the Bhakkari. Old allies of the khenomeri, their forests were in direct contact with the bogs and swamps from the north, and they had a long history of fighting the monstrous creatures spawned by that horrible realm. In this, however, the sheer numbers of ogres, combined with their toughness, was more than they could handle on their own, and they asked for help to the empire. The empire sent troops to fight the ogres, as well as refurbished the old fortresses (and build new ones) near the borders of the forest. The khenomeric armies were able to gather in a central point and effectively block the ogres from spreading throughout the empire, though many did manage to cross the containment line. The death and destruction caused by the conflict attracted the gnolls, always on the hunt for meat, and more plentiful in the western areas of the empire than anywhere else.
>>
>>89171261
The numbers of ogres still required a lot of forces to contain, an quickly the majority of the khenomeric army went to the northwest to aid the bhakkari and to protect the border provinces. This effort to slow down the ogres meant that all eyes ended up focused on the region. This would prove catastrophic, as the empire’s authorities were too focused on that spot of the border to notice the ogres’ arrival at other points. The Forest of Getting Lost was well known for its mystical properties, as all those who enter the forest did not come back. But despite this, hundreds of ogres were managing to cross it. The reasons for this anomaly are not well understood, and due to the events that happened afterwards, it is doubtful that we will ever know the true. Regardless of this, ogres began appearing all throughout the northern borders, though not in the numbers of the northwest. The army began scrambling resources to stop them, but they mostly left them as a problem to the local authorities, and many ogres ended up escaping, hiding in the wilderness. It is believed that this moment was when the swamp ogres entered contact with the gnolls.
>>
>>89171279
Since the moment of their discovery, the humans of the Khenomeric Empire had seen the gnoll as mere beasts, creatures of thoughtless rage and instinct, only posing a threat to the countryside and that the khenomeric forces would easily be able to dispatch the outbreaks. They had reached the conclusion that the gnoll had no intelligence of worth, and not the slightest sense of sentience. Because of this perceived lack of thought and their violent behavior, there are no registered attempt to tame gnoll before the start of the war. The contact between the ogres and the gnoll would prove the notion of the gnolls’ lack of intelligence and sentience utterly wrong. Seemingly all at once, independent groups of ogres managed to fight the gnoll, probably attracted by the dead meat, into submission. The brutal strength of the ogres and their sheer resilience meant that the ogres, in their wild state, had little hope to beat them, even in big numbers. The ogres ended up adopting the gnoll, first as pets, and then as pupils, when they realized they were able to be taught complex concepts. Tool use, crafting, social cohesion, hierarchy, complex language… The ogres did not stop to think that the beasts were probably incapable of learning such things, but unfortunately for the world, they were. It also helped that the fights were causing plenty of deaths, plus the countryside was left abandoned, allowing raids against cattle and the townspeople themselves. So the population of gnolls skyrocketed, with the maggotgnolls moving all around the battlefields feasting upon the carcasses.
>>
>>89171290
It would take years before the khenomeric authorities began noticing the signs of something being wrong. The growing calls for aid from the northern provinces was beginning to look like something besides the ogres was attacking the countryside and the roads. Witnesses tell of seeing gnoll behaving in ways never before seen, such as ambushing travelers, feigning to flee before turning around when the chasers are too tired, using primitive tools… Obviously, the capital paid little attention to this, but the trickle of population moving to the south was scaring the civilians. Thinking that these attacks were not the gnoll, but just ogre attacks that people were mistaking due to the panic, the emperor sent more and more forces to the north. But when these forces began suffering unusual levels of losses, then the capital realized something was amiss. However, the court was hoping to buy great swathes of land from the escaping farmers, to increase their already massive holdings, so the forces needed to really quell this situation were either delayed or reduced in scale. This would prove to be catastrophic, giving the ogres and the gnoll enough time to grow their numbers.
>>
>>89171299
By 2.450 ABE, the empire began losing contact with many northern towns and watch outposts. The scouts that were sent to investigate this were witnesses to utter destruction: villages and towns burnt and razed to the ground, with the carcasses of humans stripped bare from flesh. Most worrying of all, this phenomenon looked like it was moving in the direction of the forest of the Bhakkari, at a growing speed. Realizing too late that this was not just happenstance, the emperor sent further reinforcements to the north, too late. By the time they arrived to the province of Bahkkaridan, they found a massive force of gnolls and ogres, having pillaged the weapons and armor of the dead forces stopping the ogres from crossing into the empire. The Battles of the Bahkkaridan in 2.451 were the first time were the Khenomeric Empire discovered the horror of what was going on, that the gnoll not only were sentient and intelligent, but they had joined the ogres in their invasion of the land.
>>
>>89171308
From this moment on, the Khenomeric Empire was on war footing. While the capital ordered the full movilization of the nation, the loss of a great portion of the army had hit the Khenomeric Empire hard, and without the army slowing down the ogres from the northwest, more and more of them arrived. This began a chain reaction: the more ogres arrived, the more gnoll could be civilized. The more civilized gnoll there were, more death and destruction would bring to the land. And with that death and destruction, more gnoll would be born, joining the already massive hordes pushing down to the south. And with the growing numbers of people running from certain death, the control of the empire over the land lessened day by day amidst the chaos. By 2.460 ABE, the tales had spread from the Khenomeric Empire to the neighboring nations, and the first foreign troops arrived to help the khenomeric armies, to no avail. The spread of the gnoll followed an explosive rate, depopulating entire areas of the empire in the span of years. Nothing could survive the hordes: directed by ogre priests and hungry for human flesh, they would lose thousands on each battle, without a care in the world. The tales of those who had ran caused an exodus from the empire became commonplace, causing further chaos and madness within the empire. Tens of thousands seeking refuge overseas, as they thought the sea would protect them from the monsters.
>>
>>89171319
By 2.475 ABE, the gnoll hordes had reached the capital of Khoraqualumum. The “Chronicles of the End”, a work of multiple historians to compile the stories of the surviving witnesses of the battle, describe the battle as such:
>>
>>89171338
“A sea of bodies surrounded the city walls. Red eyes and fanged mouths as far as one could see. The monsters at our gates had cut the imperial capital from any help, and the devils kept coming from all corners of the land. The gnoll had surrounded the lake too, so no one could find release by swimming across. The ancient walls of Khoraqualumum, made of the finest stone and orichalcum […] were made useless, with the gnoll piling up their dead into grotesque pyramids to jump across. […] Yet unable to break the walls, the fight lasted for months […] Hunger, starvation and the rampant howling of the beasts made many take their own lives, thinking the gods had abandoned. Many mothers killed their own children to spare them from the horrors at the other side of the gates. Some killed them to quench their own hunger, becoming in their madness no better than the gnoll. […] The eventual fall of the gates left the city open to the gnoll, accursed monsters, who swarmed the city as hungry demons. […] The emperor and his royal guard, dressed in the regalia of their ancestors, charged against the swarm. Hundreds of gnolls and ogres fell under their shinning blades, but they too were felled. However, they did not slaughter them on the spot […]. The few survivors of that day, prisoners of the horrors that had ended our world, were reunited in the plaza in front of the Great Pyramid. In there, we were witness to the last debauchery the gnoll had left for us: the crucified emperor and his guard at the top of the pyramid[…] an apparent tribute to their dark god […] their screams muffled by the maggotgnolls that had been pushed on them, eating them from the inside, as well as from the outside. […] After His Majesty died, they cut our arms and fed them to the dirty maggots […] and then they let us go, apparently under the protection of the ogres to the nearest free port. Why was this cruel mercy done, I still do not know.”
>>
>>89171345
The “Day of the End” became the end of the ancient Khenomeric Empire. A nation that had lasted for millennia had been devoured from within in less than three decades. The remnants of the empire, still free from the gnoll, quickly fell into disarray and chaos. The neighboring kingdoms were swarmed by refugees, tens of thousands trying to flee from their lives anywhere far from the gnoll. Many fell into the hands of the vicious creatures, becoming food or slaves. After the fall of Khoraqualumum in 2.476 ABE, the gnolls only took seven years to occupy the last remnants of the Khenomeric Empire still free, with the last khenomeric province to fall being Micoshtep in 2.483 ABE. The full consequences of this event would make themselves known to the rest of eastern Giantstep soon enough, as once the Khenomeric Empire had been devoured, the gnoll began moving beyond its borders.
>>
I have spotted a mistake in the wiki. From the Empire of Elanxa page.

>As the Khenomeric Empire slowly collapsed, much of its northern territories split off and formed the nation of Greater Elanxa, which was centered around the massive island metropolis of Old Elanxa, in the middle of the Labyrinth Bay.

That's not true. In the middle of the Labyrinth Bay there's the Black Prisons. The place they are refering to is the Saint Picasasti Inner Sea.
>>
>>89171431
the city of Old Elanxa was on an island north of what is now the city of the tempered body, so maybe not literally the exact center of Labryrinth Bay, but far enough from the coast to justify the "middle of" expression, similar to how people say "middle of the ocean" when they are nowhere near the middle
>>
>fandom wiki
This is highly discouraging for such a project.
>>
>>89171635
But the only lands Greater Elanxa has in the Labyrinth Bay are those of the Realm of Harmony, and that area is not suitable for the capital.

That could work. Also, the jungle swallowing the remnants of the jungle could explain why they decided to move the new capital so far from it, instead of rebuilding. Also, name of the capital?

the modern Empire of Elanxa isn't a direct successor of Greater Elanxa, Greater Elanxa split into many pieces, more than one of which used the Elanxan name for at least a certain duration

in terms of additional territory for Greater Elanxa, probably coastal areas in what is now tarot, woodcutters, and maybe even golden sea of wheat

We're going to need to explain why, though. Especially if the other islands of the region are the cursed Prison Islands. Why would you put your capital there? I imagine that was something to do with NKE stuff, but still. And if the island is small enough to not appear on the map, even more.

Medieval/Renaissance cities weren't that big geographically, you can fit a lot of people into about 100km2, which would be too small to show up on our maps

As to why it is on an island, could be lots of reasons, natural harbor, highly defensible, etc.

It was likely already a city during NKE times, and became capital of a large nation due to political reasons (leading family/families worked its way to the top by allying with some NKE remnants and conquering others)
>>
>>89173989
Maybe we could reach a middle ground? Perhaps the city is not exactly on an island, but rather it's connected to the continent through a landline that's swallowed by the tife. Like the Saint-Michel Mount in France, but with a city. Probably the capital was put there as it was a defensive location, but the city ended up growing into the continent when the "island" became too small.

I have a problem getting a proper scale for the map because it's damn near impossible without breaking a rule.
a unified measurement system would be impossible as everyone who pitched in on the map ran with their own head cannon on how big the world is
therefore we only have the vague notion that it is simply "bigger" as I don't see anyone complaining about things being too big
I have an idea to fix this however. if we measure everything in cubits then we can make smaller localized maps which would work for an area, then once we get a lot of them together we could piece them together into one large map and get a cohesive map and then make a measurements
>but anon what if the map makers measurements don't line up? that would break rule 3!
you see that's why we measure in cubits, because cubits are proportional to ones body then in the lore we could just write that objects crossing certain natural boundaries change in size by a specific amount, such that ones own size remains exactly proportional to the size of another.

Hunting Mosantis are a agressive herbivores, using their massive height to reach the highest branchest from the trees. Using their claws to grip fruits, they are a very dangerous creature for the local farmers. Luckily for the farmers, they are an elusive species, and their agression tends to be the death of them, especially during mating season, where their agression levels go so high that many end up dying during fights for mates. The color of their bodies changes throughout the year, reaching a pinkish red during the mating season, signaling other creatures from the region to keep their distances.

Wrangledors are small predatory fish, the size of a beetle. They fly around during the night in great numbers, using their light organ to attract insects, to them gobble them up with their oversized mouths. They always move in great numbers, creating complex light patterns in the night sky. During the day, they sleep in areas hidden from possible predators, like atop of trees or in caves. While small and brittle individually, the fact they always fly in great numbers is enough to scare away many predators, as their oversized jaws can still hurt bigger creatures, and a swarm of them is a scary prospect.

In the case of not being able to find an already made burrow, they will dig one themselves with their horns, though they do prefer saving their energies. To protect themselves from predators, the hercythons coil around the enemy and repeatedly hit it with their heads, both strangling them and bashing them. They hercythons are not that big, though, a meter at most, so they have to be careful when to fight and when to hide.

Jellyflies are flying creatures that feed off nectar from flowers. They small size, slow speed and frail complexion would make them very easy prey, if not for the fact they have a very powerful poison. The sting of one of this will cause the wound to become luminescent, creating a burning sensation that brings pain to the victim. While this feeling is not near as painful as other venoms known, it is a very long lasting one, robbing the victim of their ability to sleep. This, combined with the luminescence of the wound, would make it so the predator ends up exhausted due to lack of sleep and marked for other creatures to attack them.

>Two-Headed Gavialis
The two-headed gavialis are a species of reptile living in the Land of Changing Waters. A crocodilian that can reach up to 5m in length, it spends the days hunting fish in the swamps. Despite it having two heads, and the both of them seemingly working independently from one another, they do not seem to have any motor problem, or any clash for the control of their body. This is generally attributed to their low intelligence. Their thin mandibles are filled with glass-sharp teeth, and while its bite it's not that powerful, the damages it can produce can cause fast bleeding on even big creatures. However, it has a lot of problems eating armored animals like turtles.

>Great Tomato Tick
Great Tomato Ticks are a species of arachnid that live near agricultural lands. They are the size of a human fist, and they hide between fruit trees. They have the ability to somewhat mimic the shape and color of human crops (in particular are adept of imitating tomatoes). They then wait for birds or mice to eat the fruit, and when they are close, they strike. While their poison is not particularly potent, it is incredibly fast, making quick and nimble animals freeze solid. Afterwards, the tick will drink their fluids until they are a dry carcass. Humans and other bigger creatures are mostly unharmed by the venom, though they will have their bitten limb totally numb for hours. Farmers aren't sure whether they are a good creature that keeps pests away or a nuisance that will ruin their day if they are not careful.

Like this? Also, if this is all the info we're going to add, we need to draw more maps/banners and so on...

Not all the nations, and not just nations, but coasts, important rulers and historical events. We can limit ourselves to 50 or so cards, remember that the point is to make the setting accessible to other anons.

Original OP here. Not really, I was active up until thread 15 or so then got sick and thought the threads died.

I figured out it's still alive at like thread 30? I tried to then hand over admin right to the wiki to someone, but in the end no one contacted me.

I mostly lurk now as the text dumps and lore are cool for inspiration, but I don't enjoy the direction the setting went with Azam n and Khenoneria being super empires that split the world. Basically my tastes are very different to what this setting became.

Still I'm happy to see it still goes strong and congratulations to everyone who actually kept it alive for a while year.

It must be bizarre to see your thread project last as long as it has. Especially when it morphs into something different from what you had in mind.

So basically
>Nation
>Capital
>Form of government
>Religion
>Demographics
>Brief summary
>Status
>Fun Fact
>Quote
>Maps
>Flag
>Emblem

How many nations actually have all of those?

>Horned Bat
Horned Bats are a species of bat living in the swamps of the Crimson Plateau. A small flying rodent, it is quite sturdy in comparison to other species of bats. In fact, one of its main methodes of defense is to fly at high speed towards the potential thread, headbutting the oponent with its reinforced skull. While this isn't particularly harmful, especially against the giants of the region, they are very precise, and tend to go for the eyes or the temple of the head, thus caussing concussion or disorientation. They eat bugs and frogs from the swamps, catching the bugs within their sticky beard and eating frogs by biting them and leaving them to bleed, before eating their liver.

Nah. It's comfy. I just came to like the very early version a lot with the big theme of having a divine dimensional order of stairs all beings want to advance like wuxia.

The setting went a different direction, but I'm happy people enjoy it and new bits of cool lore are submitted.

I stole a few factions from the setting for the setting book I'm working on. It's comfy to come back and see it's still going. If I could change how the setting and project went. I wouldn't.

Glad to see you are enjoying it. Good luck with your book.

First draft of elanxa. We probably ought to add more stuff to it.

I always wanted to do more with this but it feels like we barely beat back the mudcore globecels to keep our celestial steps that it never got the opportunity to be developed.

I think it's fine. The point is to keep it brief. I'd use a slightly more saturated green though
