Repostin' for this>>88477586Possibly above Titanium Miner?
/tg/ - Traditional Games
I love this particular compass being assembled. Good stuff, lads.
So what’s the relationship between Perseus ll and the Titanium king? Both atlanteans, of some capacity, but vastly different monarchs. A dual monarchy? Different nations? Is atlantis a confederacy :0 wonder if the two have ever met!
>>88500929As far as we know, Atlanteans and the Atlan both have the same roots in history. Both consider themselves the "Real" Atlantis.
>>88500929Titanium King is an Atlan, not an Atlantean. Not that Atlans consider the two to be different things.Atlanteans do. Atlanteans very much do.
>>88499775It’s sorta pathetic to try to ape leviathan of all things. At least that came about pretty organically. This is just forced shit. Try having an idea of your own for once
>>88501098I can't imagine someone not understanding the difference between an 1860s style Great Game setting and an 1890s style Scientific Romance setting what the fuck is wrong with you.
>>88499775>Seeker of Truth>2 above Scholar Prophet>As Above, So Below>"Am I an Outlander? We are all Outlanders to someone.">Rules incredibly complicated but somehow perfectly balanced and impossible to cheese
>>88499775Waaayyy too much fucking text in every boxThe person who made this doesn’t understand what they’re doing at all. It’s like a monkey painting a picture - they copy some of the actions but without any understanding of why those actions are done
>>88502195>It’s like a monkey painting a pictureexactlykino
>>88502195>stop having fun guys
So, do you think it is a societal split or a political split? are they different groups in a juxtaposed society or different nations with severely conflicting ideals. also. Which do you think is older, Atlantis or Mu? I personally think Atlantis, I'm not sure on Lemuria, the general image of their society is obviously very spiritual, possibly tribal, but to what level and how much other factions regard them is up for debate.
>>88502300I feel like civilisation that Lemuria patterns itself on was the OG deep cave society. Current Lemuria are LARPers who don't even begin to understand the eldritch powers their prophecies are contacting. The old "atlantis" that split into Atlantis and Atlan was a surface society that sank. Probably very old, but current Atlantis and Atlan might not be similar to it at all.New Mu is probably the youngest of the underground civilisations. Old Mu? No idea.
>>88502195I actually agree. It does need to be edited a bit.
>>88499775>skywhale got extinction'd so hard it isn't even on the chart
>>88502415I would agree with a caveat, its better starting with a more packed chart. We can make a more refined chart down the line that covers the bases, but you want to keep the unpolished one with all the ideas prior.Treat it like it is, a WiP.
>>88502300>>88502361My personal headcanon:>"Old" Ones come first, don't do much, a layer appears above them>Old Lemuria is founded and eventually collapses, survivors degenerate into hole people>New layer appears, it's Old Mu, they have their golden age and eventually collapse, significant Mu population escapes when a new layer forms above them>This one is the cave people. Some of the cave people go lower, degenerate into the Morlocks. New layer forms, Mu refugees proceed upward.>New layer is Atlantis. Atlantis has its golden age, but finds itself in conflict with the Mu refugees. Eventually, Atlantis sinks and a new layer forms above it. Atlantis splits, half becoming the Atlans while the other half remain Atlantians. Atlantians and Mu refugees flee to the new layer.>At some point during this period, a population discovers the ruins of Old Lemuria and they begin larping in accordance with the prophecy.>Atlantis and Mu refugees discover the newest layer, this is us.>Mu refugees decide to found their own kingdom, partially on the surface, partially in the depths.>Atlanteans prefer the idea of tricking surface people into helping them retake Old Atlantis, wind up working with surfacers.>At some point Napoleon and Malcolm descend into the earth, discover different secrets of the underworld and lead different factions of changed humans.>Sky people are probably the next layer that will form, will eventually become the surfacers when America/Europe/Etc all sink into the Earth.
>>88503055>tribals retconned because they are no longer PC>whales went extinct>plesiosaurus never seen again>gorgs got squatted4th ed confirmed for taking all the kino and skub out of the game
>>88503225I'm not sure I like the idea of new layers constantly forming above, I much prefer it when the earth has always been hollow and it's been a constant process of discovering (and rediscovering) layers beneath. It gives a sense of there's always something deeper and darker below. Though I guess that since rocketry technology won't be developed for another several decades you can always say there's another layer above, or several. And another thing, how do you imagine the layers above are formed?
>>88503505>How do you imagine the layers above are formed?I think it's a weird sort of metaphysical phenomenon; As a culture gets "heavier" it begins to sink, and the next layer is formed over time from their ideas about the world. Also, I think that this is a sort of retroactive process; the sinking of Atlantis caused Atlantis to have always been sunk. Old Lemuria probably got hit pretty hard with this, resulting in their physical degeneration. Mu refugees and the Lemuria Larpers possibly caused later layers to become aware of the process, corrupting it in some way and making them able to remember that there even was a time before the destruction of these societies.
>>88503450>Tribals retconnned>The Negroid-Celtic features of the disgusting race are the second most shocking element of the blanched degenerate kind, surpassed only by their malice for civilized peoples. They do not create, they only steal. They do no communicate, they only deceive. They do not sow, they only make war. If only Oliver Cromwell were alive today, then he might repay his debts to the British Crown by ridding Agartha of these sub-human menaces masquerading as men.>"My only regret is they didn't let me categorize them as animals.">-Richard "That Nun had it coming" ButlerAll they did was add a bunch of new tribes and tone down the deranged anti-Irishism for the Cullagahs. Don't put that on the level of whales and battlefield hazard Plesis.
>>88503505>I much prefer it when the earth has always been hollow and it's been a constant process of discovering (and rediscovering) layers beneath. It gives a sense of there's always something deeper and darker below. The way I was looking at it is>Old cultures dig/sink deeper as new ones arrive to get away from the threats / keep hidden from the annoyance.>New cultures dig deeper to discover what the old cultures represented.A never ending cycle of reaching for the bottom, only to find that below every layer you unearth is another darker mysetry.
I liked The Rats better than Napoleon for the bottom right honestly.
>>88503505>And another thing, how do you imagine the layers above are formed?A few fringe astronomers are reporting "disappearing stars" and "strange shadow planets" blocking known objects from view. This is of course, nonsense.
>>88503450no gorgs, no SOVL. simple as
>>88503225perhaps the Atlans survived the sinking of Atlantis and stayed in the old ruins, because ''they were protected by the sacred Atlan Walls'', or so their history says. Now they regard the Atlantean ''refugees'' state as an enemy in a civil war, to be absorbed and reforge a unified Atlantis.

>>88502361Lemuria would be considered the oldest due to being the descendants of the post-bronze age collapse Indo-Aryans that drove the Dravidians into southern Hindustan and interbred with the Kashmiri and Jammu people, then settling into the Lemurian continent to form a farmer society. The "modern" Lemurians aren't the same though, as they began interbreeding and adopting the culture of the Cro-magnons of the lost land, their pagan beliefs being subverted into the new prophecy cult.

The leviathan compass thread anons getting butthurt over this is actually pretty embarrassing and sad.
>>88504442I'm from the Leviathan compass and I'm having fun. Stop inventing drama.
>>88504323Wrong. Indo-Aryans are descendants of Lemuria, not the other way around.
I hope people remember what "Lemuria" is supposed to be. It's a hypothetical continent between Madagascar and India to explain the presence of Lemurs in both regions but not anywhere in between. While there is certainly a history of Lemuria in /x/ schizobabble from Theosophy and the Shaver Mysteries, it at its core needs to be Southern India and completely separate from Indo-Aryans (which were North India).https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemuriahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumari_Kandamhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamils
>>88504904For the purposes of this thread, it's probably important that people read up on Blavatsky and her brand of wacky as well as the actual origin of the Lemuria theory.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helena_Blavatskyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosophyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosophical_SocietyAnd Agartha for good measure.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agartha

>>88504954Blavatsky is an idiot, though. I'd be perfectly fine with including her theories so long as it isn't called "Lemuria", because "Lemuria" actually has a meaning outside of her schizoposting. She just attached her theories to the name because it was a "lost continent" and thus must surely be like Atlantis, when in reality it's a pre-continental drift scientific theory.

>>88505069>Blavatsky is an idiot, though. You say that like that's a bad thing in this context. People like Blavatsky had an undeniable influence on the exact type of pulp fiction we're pulling from to make this thing, so understanding how that influence came to be is useful when coming up with ideas. We don't have to have Lemuria be everything Blavatsky claimed it was, and it's better not to do that, but knowing what Blavatsky said and why she said it can be useful.
>>88505126>where do the skywayman and the cloudellafint fit in?We do not know what the 1e devs were thinking.
>>88505143I'm just saying that in order for "Lemuria" to be "Lemuria" it needs to be the place where lemurs got from Madagascar to India, which places it in the southern Indian ocean. If it doesn't do that, it's not Lemuria. It's something else.

Tbh I hope they touch on Olm Men again, they feel a little like a footnote ever since their debut in The Sunken Sun. Don’t get me wrong, that sequence between Colonel Shikamura’s company and the Olm Men skintakers was sick exposition and Tio was a really fun supporting character of the race but there’s so much potential with them, I think. For one Tio’s arrangenent with the Japanese that was kind of like being a foreign legion helper type deal could open up some more opportunities for Outlanders to use native forces (I love mixed armies fight me), the idea the Olm Men’s ability to navigate caves and disappear seamlessly making them a resource for outlander expeditions is really cool. Feels so tantalizing that the author casually drops their ancestral lands being the First Layer, which is wild. Do you think the reason Olm Tribes are mostly Second and Third layer river nomads now is because of Outlander outposts and drillibg disrupting their homelands? From the way Colonel Shikamura talks about them it sounds like Skirmishes and ambushes staged by Olm chieftains are not a new thing.

>>88517577>Think aura-stacking on Heiress Explorer faggotry will still be cancer in low point games in the new edition? The balance team hasn't changed for the next edition, mate. You will face Thunder Mole / Heiress armies AND YOU WILL LIKE IT.
>>88517603Goddamn it. The worst shit is that they're even viable in high point games by padding their lists with suicide bomber sky captains. Yeah they're flimsy, but when they kill 3-4x their points worth in their explosion and basically no real army fields enough AA to stop several of them from closing without massively opportunity costing them to lose to every ground list ever, sky cappies basically ensure that any gunline or swarm focused list has to live in large buildings or just autolose. 4th edition meta sucks. Even if the balance team is still retarded, hopefully the new armies change up this dynamic in some way, ideally adding more generic low cost AA that can also be used against lightly/unarmored ground targets.

This thread is saved on sup/tg/, right?
>>88518828The original is, we can probably leave a link to that thread here after this one's archived so it's sequential.
>>88518828The previous one is, this one not yet.https://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/2023/88453902/I'd wait at least until we hit the bump limit before archiving this one
We'll probably use either this thread to refine things or a new one to actually get serious hit that depends on vested interest. Shit, we could probably turn this into a general if we begin making sheets for rules and basic storyboard bullet points for the factions.
>>88518872This setting is so gigaschizo I'd be up for developing it further.
>>88518901If I were to continue, I'd start by exploring factional rivalries and expanding each faction with their own chart.
>>88519041>expanding each faction with their own chart.Which faction we starting with?
>>88519041Here's the sheet in any case, we should probably jot down basic premises or something generally agreed upon about each faction or what rules systems we're taking things from/hybridizing. Personally I saw a mix between Infinity and 40k but with an ammunition system.
>>88519051I'd do it two at a time. So maybe something like "Anglo-French Coalition vs Atlantians". And you'd have schizo axis like "Royalist vs Parliamentarian" and "Titanium vs Orichalcum", with Orichalcum being a metal associated with Atlantis.
I'll start on Basic PremisesAtlan>Titanium>War
>>88519070>Googleshame there are no alternatives amirite?
>>88519051I say we start with the most simple faction, maybe colonials or independent mercsHere's a doc I made for the previous thread, could be useful to catalogue stuff we write down> docs.google.com/document/d/1bRrxdD1BMLmcMDFeszwqg2Rcjrt8DDo7tjAxoOB6KQ8/edit
>>88519083Colonialists is a good start. That's probably the "good guys good at everything" faction.
>>88519083I'd definitely be more interested if it wasn't through a globohomo site, but I'll toss some edits in.
>>88519083>>88519096I feel like the Colonials kind of fill themselves out.And the fact that they're based off of real-world nations kind of means the Colonial factions complete themselves, at least in the general sense. Starting with them will be pretty easy yeah.
>>88519051I should we should agree on rough directions for each faction first, like what defined them, mechanicly and in lore. For exemple Lemuria are pseudo Indo-European (or their ancestor ? Cousin ? whatever) LARPing as Old Lemuria after they stumbled on their prophecy things (with Degenerated Lemurian being maybe "survivor" of Old Lemuria).Giving real identity to Colonials seem important too. To me English sound like the "vanilla" colonials option, with average units, focus on range and importance of officiers. French sound more like a gimmick faction with weird units and characters (for colonials).
>>88519135>Giving real identity to Colonials seem important too. To me English sound like the "vanilla" colonials option, with average units, focus on range and importance of officiers. French sound more like a gimmick faction with weird units and characters (for colonials).Let's settle on what factions there even are then first.>English>American>JapaneseJudging from the chart, I wouldn't consider the French to be "colonial powers" exactly.
>>88519135English may be "a handful of specialized models", while French are more like IG "human wave attack, with lots of artillery".One thing I'd like to see is more traditional cavalry units. I noticed early on there is talk of units "deleting cavalry", but very little in the way of actual cavalry is on the present chart. Maybe neither the English or French specialize in cavalry, but they should have some.
>>88519167A good point. This would still be in the era of cavalry too.
>>88519182Plus you'd probably see several factions not fully motorized in their logistics. So having horses/mules to carry loads would be the norm, with fancy mining machines and tractors being for the rich.
>>88519160Yeah, maybe French are less colonials and more "Scientific" expedition style, their units are rather firmly Inquisitive after all.>>88519167Eh sound kind of the opposite, the two frog characters are gimicky while their two units sound more elite but limited kinda of style.American are apparently mobile glass canon who need to use cover
>>88519051If we are starting with colonials chart i propose we use co-existence vs imperialism and military vs civilian as axes
>>88519160There are also japanese and turks
>>88519217>Eh sound kind of the oppositeI'm just going off their irl military doctrines. British favored 'thin red line', French favored levee en masse. French did have the larger population. However, we can make up all sorts of shit that affects circumstances. Underground may have led to a British population boom, French could have fallen into the underground, who knows.
>>88519219Needs to be weirder.Assimilation vs ImperialismExpunge (military, getting rid of weird monsters and anomolies in the depths) vs Cultivate (civilian, specifically shroom farmers, but also STALKER analogues that want to use the anomalies for profit)
>>88519234What if french litteraly fallen down? Lets say paris fell into sinkhole and now french capital is under-paris, that is also one of Gates of agarthaeiffel Tower could have been constructed as lift from underground
>>88519264>eiffel Tower could have been constructed as lift from undergroundBrilliant. Space elevator Eiffel Tower.
>>88519264>>88519275>eiffel Tower could have been constructed as lift from underground>Brilliant. Space elevator Eiffel Tower.Yeah that's getting a "Kino" stamp from me.
I know that this thread has evolved into developing this setting, but I just want to gauge if you guys would be interested in doing another compass with a new theme?
>>88519261Maybe exploration instead of assimilation? To me assimilation is part of Imperialism
>>88519290>but I just want to gauge if you guys would be interested in doing another compass with a new theme?Yes and it seems like we're already planning another one about only the colonial powers of the setting.
bare in mind that one our resources is a required reading to get a sense of what the lore or character building should be like.
>>88519096>>88519109I imagine the colonials are the Space Marine equivalent of the setting, the most popular, the most updated, and the most sub factions. The default "good guys" who are good at everything and get wanked a little to hard by the writers (that being us).
>>88519291>Exploration vs Imperialism axisI like it
Also OP just have to mention apparently you kicked off some wild shit. Thanks for the starting thread mate. Glad I could help take over compiling the rest while your head exploded.
>>88519301I kind of view the Colonialists like the IG, and the Anglo-French Coalition like the Space Marines. One relies on pluck and courage, the other relies on technology and training.
>>88519261Subjugation vs Diplomacy.Exploitative vs Scientific
>>88519360I think Exploration and Diplomacy fit together.I like having one axis being >Exploration vs Imperialismand maybe the other axis being totally absurd or unusual.
Where should Atlantis, Lemuria, and Mu go in the Layers? I think having their own empires stretch across several layers might be a good idea, but everyone needs to have their capital somewhere.
>>88519282Sound fucking great.>Paris is called "The City of Lights" because it litteraly shine in the underground>>88519234Oh yeah, got it, I was just trying to extrapolate for the compass.Looking at the chart itself, it seem like among the above civilisation, English are in the middle, French are Inquisitive and American Greedy. We could try to use that.Like the "armies" are different in nature and goals. French are wondering where the fuck did their capital land and launching exploration/scientific expedition with escorts. The British (at the time at the top of their empire) are using the vast ressources of their colonial empire above and trying to actually colonize the place like madman. The American are searching for ressources to exploits and fuel their young nation.
>>88519294>>88519298Alright. I got one based around another classic novel, this one being closer to the Turn of the Century. I'll wait before posting though. Excited to see where this one goes.
>>88519393>I think having their own empires stretch across several layers might be a good ideaFor sure.Easy to go by the chart too.Atlantis / Atlan close to the top.Lemuria seems to be the deepest faction that Colonials contact.
I'm going to be honest with you. The Atlan/Atlantis division was a bad idea and just took up space on the compass that could've went to Mu, the Colonials, or Atlantis. Especially the Colonials because they're meant to be the "middle ground" guys.
>>88519498Atlantean propagandists at work.
>>88519498I kinda agree, it would have been better suited to Atlantis's own chart.
>>88519096colonials are definitely more of a specialised army, given the t-shirt saves on everyone except tanks, and overreliance on ranged damage/artilleryI'd assume Atlanteans would be the newbie friendly army, since you have good armour and survivability across the board, and units are more reliant on innate stats than buffs (lemurians) or synergy (Mu)
>>88519167Americans should definitely count as cavalry specialists, you have Teddy's Rough Riders which are one of the best units in the game, but also the most expensive.
>>88519689Americans as mounted infantry is fine, but they aren't the faction that has a heavy cavalry that charges in like a heavy-hitter knight.
>>88519689Cavalry in a cavernous setting that also has jungles, perilous cliff faces, marshes and large lakes that requires boats suggests to me that Cavalry would be redundant. Even in the Verne novel they had to travel on foot by necessity because of the terrain. Good luck getting horses through green hell, much like vietnam you'll be on foot leading said animal by their reins anyways.
>>88519732I think once you're in the prehistoric area, things get a lot more open.
>>88519712From the compass, Americans sound like they are mobile and hit hard at good range, but are made of toilet paper and got bad save, needing cover to survive returning fire.
>>88519744That seems counter to the general American doctrine of Marching Fire.
>>88519732>>88519742We are talking about caverns that feature sky whales and plesiosaur. I think there will be enough space for horses.
>>88519742Mu get a pass for being pseudo-sassanid mongols who most likely reside in the equivalent of steppes, but other then that I wouldn't expect anything other then pack mules here.
>>88519754It seem the game faction have very different strategy to their IRL version. Also I don't think American where using marching fire in like 1870~
>>88519754That was american army, not cavalry, after the battle of San Juan Hill it got proven to be a shit doctrine.
>>88519290>>88519399That also sounds fun, but best leave it until these threads are done. Don't want to compete or overwhelm people.>>885194982e was a complete mess already and they had to introduce the split on top of it. >>88520710>Rational vs IrrationalThat's pretty great honestly.
Wrote a setting opening. Please feel free to edit or otherwise add to it.It is an age of revolution, exploration, and empire. The world has been thrown into disarray by the discovery of deep caverns beneath the Earth, vast underground layers wherein dwell ancient cities and civilisations, long lost to the waters of time. Men, beasts, and machines now move underground, as the colonial empires of above seek to explore and exploit the newfound territories that lie beneath their feet. But there are Things that live in the hollow layers of the earth, old dominions, monsters, and worse. There are the advanced and prosperous city-states of New Mu; the lost kingdom of Atlantis and the Atlan Republic, long whispered of in myth and dreams; the prophecy worshipping priests of Lemuria who eat in the shade of ancient twilight; and below all that is known, amid the ice covered sunken isle of St. Helena; Napoleon broods in silence.Great cities rise and armies march to challenge the old, as the world above moves to the worlds below. But the darkness is deep, and none know all that dwell beneath.
>>88520732>Please feel free to edit or otherwise add to it.I think I will! But for real passive voice should be avoided though.
>>88520732Oh yes. fantastic.Wasn't there a TTRPG spinoff or something?

>>88520773Are you talking about Journey to the Core? Yeah there was one, it was quite good
>>88520732Wonder how exactly Napoleon got corrupted. His "shadow of france" title imply he himself is only the shadow of himself.Maybe the battle of the pyramids actually took place near the pyramids in this world. Maybe the Pyramids are linked to depth (or something in the depth) and Napoleon uncovered something under the great pyramid. A truth that gnawed at him until his final defeat broke him.Or maybe he snapped after one to many bad joke at his size, who know.
>>88520822Maybe it was actualy caused by the British? They used what he found in egypt on secret and sunk st. Helene just to be sure he wont escape

>>88520985Have no idea how Napoleon buffing the REP across the table made it through play testing. Just goes to show this company has always been here to sell models and the game is a distant fourth concern.
Cheers to all the document contributors.

BUMP LIMIT APPROACHINGNEW THREAD?!
Brainstorming mechanics, specifically the multi-layer one.I don't remember any wargames that do multiple game fields, except for Osprey's "A Billion Suns". Gonna look it up this evening.Methinks it would be best if each scenario had a starting layer and a set amount of accessible layers (or a set range you roll for) that need to be prepared, to lower the number of terrain pieces and tables you'd need. Maybe some layers could be set up as a traditional wargame table and some like Spacehulk/Necromunda.So for example players pick Scenario A. They decide (or roll) on a starting layer and then roll for additional layers. They get the starting layer of 4 and for additional layers they get 1 above and 2 below. And then the rules for Deep Drunk complicate traversal between layers.>>88521450Let's do it when we hit it, just don't forget to put the doc in the OP
>>88521499>just don't forget to put the doc in the OPProbably better to put it in the first reply so its not opened by every random passerby.

>>88521686>wtf is going on here>>88518736>and why do I feel drawn to it?Something magic is happening right now that none of us will ever be able to explain
>>88521576This would be colonisers only, right? So France, Britain, America, the Ottomans, Japan, and maybe some others then.
>>88521715Yes exactly, only colonial powers and "Surface" (Level 2) dwellers.
>>88521715Yeah, i think it will allow US to explore both them and mercenaries (when their time comes) more in depth than if we were to combine the two
>>88521576Add the one that started it allDefinitely dead center, I'd say second row from the bottom. The extremes should be reserved for leader units or elites imo> The Hired Hand> Hired workers of Colonial powers> Your main way to get to other layers> Cheap and ready to fight, but don't stand a chance against a real combat unit
>>88521660>>88521840On it for the next thread's OP.
>>88521854Should colonials units that appeared in the first compass be on this one too ? On one hand, well it would make sense since they helped define their faction identity, on the other it would already take space.
>>88521888I think they should, there's 81 spaces to fill - a plenty big number of units we need to create, even if we reuse the already existing ones
>>88521888>Should colonials units that appeared in the first compass be on this one too ?If someone suggests it in the next thread, they'll be included I guess. Otherwise, its a fresh start to see where things go.
>>88521888I count 19 colonial/human unit types on the chart, excluding leaders. I think it's fine adding them, but it's up to anons. We should also add unit lists to the doc for each faction, would give us a better idea of who needs fleshing out.
