It's astonishing that Lego doesn't have their own strong ttrpg. Instead we're stuck with Brikwars and MFZ.

Also surprised they didn't forcefully buy up Minecraft back in 2012 and tweak it to make it more Lego.

The mid to high income white cuckolds that make up the bulk of Lego's consumer base would have eaten that shit up, even before D&D 5e made roleplaying cool for mid-grade actors.

>But seriously bros what happened to the Lego soul?
D*sney happened. St*r W*rs happened first and made them realize licensing was a goldmine that soulful original themes couldn't hope to match, then D*sney bought St*r W*rs and started levying draconian demands on Lego, such as the cancellation of Bionicle G2 in order to not compete with constraction TFA dolls. After years of this, we have arrived at the point where half their themes are just D*sney licenses.
>>
>>88284464
So Disney is gonna be buying up a shriveled Lego after forcing them to cancel all of their OC some time in the near future.

Yeah, its usually 8 or 6+2 rerolls, depending on your set up with the robot crewman. The problem is that unless you deploy right in the middle of the enemy you can't bring them all to bear at once, and if you DO do that then even with the heavy armour you get shot to bits by your opponent's entire army because there's no other targets unless you're playing at silly points values. The Flagship is a better choice most of the time because while the weapons aren't anywhere near as good for how big it is you can warpspeed zoom between terrain pieces to take shots. Or you take the coward's way out and flood the field with cheap flying drones, like a filthy Sp*rian or bl*ctkron

I did see one good fix for the Mothership which was to let it do a blast off attack once a game. You get a chance to repair some of the damage from early turn shooting, and your opponent has to think a bit more carefully about whether to stay in close and risk being roasted or redeploy to safety and potentially let the Mothership get away.

Paradox him bro. Every time he uses a rewind it makes at least one of your units a "fixed time point" that can't be messed with that turn (and unless something's really changed you get to decide which one that is). Put it on something that can get in really close and he has to choose between taking massive damage from paradox by taking out your guy now or massive damage over the next couple of turns from your guy just murdering the shit out of him. And if he rewinds again, guess what - you now have two fixed time points, and so on and so on. Threetrain's a noob trap build, because it looks really powerful on paper but unless you're careful it failure cascades really easily.

That said, I agree its a terribly unbalanced faction. Anyone who brings a train, two tunnelators and a warper to a normal game should be beaten with a stick mercilessly and without remorse.

Actually, I've been meaning to ask about those, since I'm still new to the game. I've managed to work out most groups' gameplay theme, like Blacktron's staggering firepower for relatively cheap, Space Police's elite profiles or M-Tron's seven gorillion ways of damage mitigation and repairs, but with Explorians I am kinda stumped. They're not generalists like Futurians, but they don't really seem to fit any other niche.

So, how pissed would you guys be if i brought my D*sney budget Tac Pod Droid army to rumble? It's a horde with lots of battle ready units, and suppresion fire stopping you from taking actions, but it folds to EMPs and force fields, the ability to summon more droids from mothership sucks, and the close combat without grenade armed expensive units just won't work.
I can hard counter the UFO guy, because emp in his army costs an arm and a leg, and any army without forcefield buyout is at least 50/50 but orange chainsaw is my worst matchup as usual. It's mid/bottom tier, but some people just refuse to play vs D*sney shit and i cannot blame them (at least it's not another trooper commando). I already was told grey/grey looks like shit, but it's an official color scheme, should i add some red?
>>
>>88286105
They're kind of "specialised" generalists. As >>88285447 says they've got the best engines and shields, their Firepower is no slouch although it can be pretty swingy, and they even have a couple of half decent options for Melee.
They're very forgiving of mistakes as they've got the Engines to get out of dodge, and the Shields to mitigate incoming damage (though not nearly as much a M-Trons). What's most scary is a seasoned Explorian player who uses the Engines to their utmost and can run circles around you if played right.

There's the rub. EMP is actually pretty good vs Ice Warriors. It switches off the Chainsaws, and can delay Nuke launches. But it's only really Space Police that have good access to affordable EMP (even then they're paying for their elite profiles).
>>
>>88286299
>Maybe he’s allowed a little gas inhalation
Do not weep for Mike, he has plenty of experience getting laid off by the Lego Group, and knows how to get by freelancing by drawing people's Carsonas and what not.

And despite DECADES of "Game Development Experience" at this point, he is NEVER going to be done editing the [Current] Edition Brikwars Rulebook.
>>

And yes Explorians have access to affordable EMP as well. But their somewhat random damage faction rule means it can come back to haunt them. Sure turning off the Chainsaws isn't that hard, unless they take the Enhanced Dampening upgrade, but that's a bit pricey for something on a throwaway unit that could potentially be useless. But you can bet your ass they're putting on their Nukes just in case. And that's a tough Tech roll even without the Explorians randomness.

No board can discuss its designated topics well. This is a pretty universal and ironic truth. Topics get discussed to death, which leads to stagnation, consensus, boredom and trolling. Generals suffer the same issues, but hyperfocussed on one specific aspect of the greater Board's interest and with far greater chance of a small number of potentially insane people dominating conversation. On another board, or even just outside a general, the issues aren't "settled" - anons on /v/, say, might well have fought the console wars to a bitter standstill, but something like the deep sea is still ripe for discussion in a way that isn't true on /an/. Something similar happens on /v/ vs /tg/ on Vampire the Masquerade - they generally come at the World of Darkness RPG from fondness for Bloodlines, here discussion is more focussed and shaped by whatever is going on in the general. Its a similar deal with /toy/ and lego vs /tg/ and lego, I should imagine - everyone here's had some interest in lego but come at the topic from a different angle (e.g. as an imaginary wargame/rpg) than someone who follows releases, or has discussed brick types to death or is in a feud with some guy who only collects duplo or whatever (sorry, I'm guessing what the lego general threads are like).

On Old /tg/, Traditional Games was the hook on which to justify dicking about as much as possible, much like cars were to Top Gear. In this way, anything and everything was potentially on-topic. This thread is a real throwback and thank God for it.

this is true, but one specific kind of general can counteract this: the ones that are focused on a topic that generates a lot of OC that can then be discussed. It's why /wip/ for example is a pretty decent thread whereas system focused threads are much worse. /lg/ should be and was a thread that genrated its own topics, but eventually low effort posting drowned it out and made most of the good contributors stop posting.

Mining laser is very good, but has a super short range. Drill and Rock Monster are CC beasts, but the Drill suffers from the same variance as Explorators shooting and Rock Monster has to rely on it's "Deep Strike" to close the gap. And the Toughness is relative, great Armour but AP weapons can bring it down to managable levels and less than average Shields. Also more vulnerable to Tech attacks than even Ice Warriors, excepting the Rock Monster.

I can do you one better since it doesn't involve degeneracy yet is something I'll carry longer than any anal stuffing or chastity belting. When I was a kid I was playing with Duplos when the friend I was going to have a playdate with pulled up with his mom. So excited was little anon that he toddler-waddled his way out the front door and down the porch steps to meet them mid-build, block in hand, and in that excitement I tripped, falling down the few remaining steps. The landing itself wasn't so bad, except my block-holding hand smacked right into my forehead, embedding the Duplo right in my eyebrow.

To this day, I have a perfect Lego peg-hole scar on my face.

Came very close to being a S Tier faction given how much firepower, speed and Victory Point scoring rules they have, but their low health and the release of the Pull Insectoid Leg/Wings Special Rule for mechs and Pincer equipped units, at a time those had become ubiquitous, really drive the nail in that coffin.
The Spider is another example, like the Megacore Magnetizer, of an otherwise absolutely OP unit, if only it wasnt stuck in its faction. Possibly the best Electronic Warfare rules in the game.

You're right, and if more was made of electronic warfare I think they'd be top tier, but fragile as it is the Sonic Stinger still punches well above its weight class. Its no Warp Wing, but frankly what is?

The Insectoids are an interesting counterpart to the Spyrians in a way, with a similar way of using stealth but much more mobile. That whole period where they were moving away from mandatory traditional bases and into factions based around constant movement was full of interesting experiments that were never proper followed up on.

Eh, it depends. If the enemy is running a mixed faction list the Space Police can only apply their Warrant special to one of the factions present. Plantside Police errata clarifies that their jurisdiction is their chosen battlefield, so they can apply their Warrant special to every faction in play.

But against a homogeneous list? Yeah, Space Police dominate. Faster, harder hitting, the Warrant applies to the whole list. It hurts.

Alternately, play Fright Knights. Cheap and cheerful skeletons that only have to get lucky once to spawn on board a ship and ghosts generally ignore everything except some shields (even if stricly speaking you have to ally in another Knight faction to get them). Hexes aren't as flashy as wizard spells but synergise really well and can basically turn even a bowman group into Spyrians on crack with how annoying they can be. Green AND Black dragons for anything you just need to die this turn, with the option to upgrade a Green to a Windship to truly ruin someone's day. And to top it off, two top tier modular bases. What more could you ask for?

Answer: Be history's greatest monster and ally in some Time Twisters. You WILL be beaten up, and rightly so, but the memory of your opponent's expression will be giving you sick pleasure for years afterwards.

Brikwars was originally designed around DOING that, hence starting with a Sized-based Construction Point formula so your giant MOCs could be balanced against Minifigures.
But "MATH HARD" and Mike is a GRAPHIC DESIGNER, so he decided to "streamline" the game by cutting most of the math out, basically throwing all balance out in favor of just having equal sized hordes/hoards of dudes being Minifig fightn' men swashbuckling it up with one another.
"15 (now 20?) years of Game Design Expertise" my ass...

Case in point, I have stated gigantic collectors sets up.

All the 90s spaces sets fit together pretty coherently. Would something like Genesys work?
>>
>>88313825
>Mummies and vampires will still wreck you tho.
As is only right and proper for his magnificence.

It still takes forever to get a proper doom train going because of the way summoning/curse rules work though. If you can get the bus or similar fast hitter to the objective and out again before most of the bases get revealed and the undead wake up, you only really have to deal with snakes, scorpions and the occasional mercenary adventurer.
>Mummy-Man since '98, even losing is fun when you can place a sphinx right on your opponent's escape route with shifting sands. You'd be surprised how well they stack up even against modern lists.

Clone Wars Armies form the basis for 50% of Brikwars Factions; Star Wars does supply a steady stream of the Body Armor prints and Helmets to make a Sci-fi Fighting Force after all.

They're such a staple that I made my personal Faction of Battle Droids an innumerable force of weak incompetent mooks to serve as easily established Op For; BRIKTOID AUTOMATA!

They didn't get banned, per se, but they do have a reputation from when they were new and since then got whacked with the nerf hammer so badly you barely see them these days.

They were originally intended as a counterpart/foil to Explorians, so they both rely almost exclusively on ships rather than static bases and they're intended to be very mobile compared to most of the other Spacers. Where the Explorians focus on shields and speed, the Zotaxians (the UFO guys) have more traditional heavy armour and much nastier weaponry. The UFOs kind of became the "second best" at everything for a while, which made them really good at taking on all-comers. Explorians were quick, but with some builds almost even (especially with the UFO Flagship's warp drive); Blacktron and Ice Planeteers had better weapons, but not that much stronger and certainly not so many unless they went full beam or nuke spam; M-Tron and Rock Raiders will not be beaten on regular armour (especially after that Hard Hat update, holy shit), but unless you're regularly facing armour piercing its excessive. Combine being as forgiving as Explorians to a new player with some infamous min-max netbuilds like "Mother's Home", "Four on the Floor" and "Sinistar" and they ended up ranking high in every tournament for a good few years. Obviously something had to be done, but the devs definitely went too far - on paper they're still pretty good, but they're a lot slower, are much shorter range and MASSIVELY more expensive. You usually end up with one or two big fire magnets gingerly sliding around terrain pieces if you play them how you're "supposed to", or you take as many one-droid Droneships as you can and annoy the enemy to death, and either way its just not as fun to play. There's a couple of fun play test rules out there that give them back stuff like Blast Off that make them much more viable without being too OP.

I remember loving the first couple gens of slime creatures, actually. (Prior to your image, I think) Smaller dragons, dinosaurs, and even robots and horror creatures all with interchangeable parts. Brilliant. It was a shame to leave the original setting/lore behind but the slime gimmick went along with some legit toys. I was always fascinated by how Mega Bloks made the dragons models in such high-quality plastic too, their lego knockoff bricks would break in a stiff breeze but I never had a single dragon component snap. I think the association with Mega Bloks itself held Dragons back a lot, they were good enough toys that if a more... reputable company had sold them I think they'd have had way more cultural impact. These days you can barely even torrent the films, they're just forgotten.

Against most lists, they just can't hit the big guy hard enough to hurt him before he gets into close combat and demolishes whatever he's in with. Bionicles are an extremely tall army, you'll probably only be able to afford like 5 units with the points you get in an average game, and a Garmadon backed up by a Skull Truck can dismantle them. Although the X-Wings might be able to handle it, Star Wars have a few answers in their vehicles. A-Wings, TIE fighters, flying droids, as long as it's quick because the Skulkins do not have very good anti-air or air-to-air.

Bionicles overtook them almost completely, but from playing them myself back in the day what you need to do is a) make sure they don't get access to their preferred terrain pieces, so their discs don't synergise b) use cover as much as possible so you don't get hit and c) don't let them get close enouh to combine. A) and b) are pretty obvious, and you know doubt know about already, but its worth keeping an eye out because there's a few that can pop off specific factions - the flying purple energy bug can pop off almost anything, from crystals all the way up to some shields. The developers built on the lessons they learned from Slizers, so if you know how deal with them then you're half way there, but they have far, far better ranged options (especially if they're playing with the full range of discs, which is like if your average Toa could swap masks multiple times mid-game). Final point is combines - if you play too passively, it gives your opponent time to gather up and spend a turn or two upgrading, which not only repairs the individual unit's damage but also means they become one super unit with all the synergies and weapons. Yes. Its super unbalanced, even with the minimum turns spent doing nothing but transforming.

The solution is to use superior mobility and make camping in terrain a nightmare. On the former, remember that they have at most six individual units even at stupid sizepoint games, and they don't move that much quicker than a standard trooper outside of their preferred terrain. On the latter, most armies have at least some options there, from Spyrian signal jamming, to Raider boreholes and demo charges, to a good old fashioned Mass Grave/Haunting (seriously, I don't know if its intentional, but almost any of Team Castle can rock these guy's worlds). Good luck to you, I hope this helps.
