Guys.
It's 2016.

I'd drop the retarded change from communists to terrorists. Communists are a much better boogeyman for the command economy running, dictator-led, ideological purity obsessed Alpha Complex where everyone is mandated to have a job even when there are no meaningful jobs and they all live in state housing that's progressively more luxurious the more they're trusted by the ruling (and only legal) party.
Paranoia doesn't need modernization.

>>
>>80049738
Have you seen the blurb about gay sex? That one objectively ruins a classic gag in order to allow homos.
In old Paranoia, everyone is on hormone blockers in the food and water (among many, many other forms of pharmatherapy), meaning they barely hit puberty and only know that some clones are an inny and some are pitied. Everything is co-ed, but no one knows why that would matter. But if you're high ranked enough (Green, iirc) you can choose to edit your drugs and might get off the blockers. This means some of the high rankers are real degenerates, you know, like the soviet elite. But it also means if the troubleshooters stranded far from processed food and water might end up coming off blockers they weren't even aware of, which has infinite potential for dumb fun. All of that thrown out so the gays can fuck. Also, straight sex is treason.

You're proving my point that the information isn't objectionable
>>

It's also completly unnecessary. It's exactly the same reason I object to the amount of race politics in media today. I don't need to be told POCs are people too, I already know, and the people who don't know that aren't going to change their opinion because Disney preached it at them. Same goes for this, anyone who was gonna be a dickhead to their friends isn't gonna stop because a rulebook told them to. Its unnecessary and patronising.
>>
>>80049955
My original post was that the information itself isn't objectionable but you can tell the authors politics from the way its presented so its upsetting. You keep agreeing with me.

And that's in a game. The whole point of these games is that you are playing as characters, which gives you that social license to be a massive dick since the game creates a space to be a dick, and characters to play as to create a social buffer around that dickishness.

Anyone who approaches a game to fuck with other players, instead of fuck with the usual rules of social decorum in company of other players, is a bad choice for a game group.

I think people are coming around to the idea that there is less to fear from a single intelligence and a lot more to fear from a lot of blind algorithms just doing what they're told.

So a modern Paranoia scenario would downplay Friend Computer as an always watching specific intelligence, and instead play up the fact that everything its doing is based on dumb algorithms some asshole put in charge of everything. The whole of society entrusted to things that don't even think in the traditional sense. You can actually keep basically everything about the society of Paranoia, just make it so that the algorithms decided this would be the most efficient/safe/productive way to structure a society. And they're right. Its just doing it that way is horrifying. But they don't know that because they're dumb bits of math in a computer and as long as they're in charge things will either stay the same or get worse.

Oh and don't think too hard about how realistic that all is

I remember some cyber security dude talking about having a chip in his hand specifically so he could upload access data to it to covertly enter place. Like he could pose as a maintenance worker and use the chip to gain entry to a location he isn't suppose to be in. If he gets caught, he can just say he used his regular access card and if they check the security footage, they see him walk up to the scanner and wave his card in front of it, but the scanner is actually reading the chip in his hand. So now they suspect a system malfunction and he's off the hook.

That's actually pretty much what Friend Computer is by the "modern" era. Every high programmer gets to edit their own bullshit and limit the bullshit of the others (not for anyone else's benefit, of course), and there's so much system fragmenting (hasn't actually rebooted... ever), deliberate hacking and tampering, and physical hardware failure that one part of Friend Computer might not know what another part is doing, and it'll only sometimes synchronize its various cores in a sector or between sectors.
Friend Computer is genuinely trying to help. Given perfect info and programming that fits its true purpose, it would make good decisions on your behalf. It never has perfect info, and its peogramming hasn't been fit for purpose in multiple human generations. Everything it can rely on for info is tampered with. Its decision making abilities are tampered with.
>>
>>80058098
That's actually a pretty good modernization. I haven't read the newer Paranoia books at all. Skimming the thread it seems like its a mixed bag.
>>
>>80058298

That they take the time to spell this out means they are attempting to play social mediator and define how people interact. I stand against that, not because I find it abhorrent, but because they attempt to do so in favor of directions I also abhor.
It's simple social power dynamics. Took me a while to understand too.
>>
>>80057850
I don't believe this, at all. I think they know very well what they're doing and what it looks like, they simply have managed to divorce themselves from caring in pursuit of their bottom line.

>>80058354

>if you post anything related to the company, that's a paddlin'
>if you like, subscribe, retweet, ogle longingly at any official company posts that's a paddlin'

Employee social media accounts are a risk to the company, nothing more. What you WILL do is take quarterly diversity trainings to teach you how to be a drone. These trainings have more impact on your ratings and raises than job performance.

You're right that they have delude themselves, but I think you're wrong about their intention. Bottom line in big companies is almost always seen as a means to an end. Yes, the suits live extravagant lives, but to talk to these guys and you'll find their main drive is change the world for the "better." Obviously what "better" could even be considered is already up for interpretation, however these guys have isolated themselves so completely from alternative outlooks and sat circlejerking with their rich buddies that they genuinely believe a surveillance state forcing everybody to get along is a brilliant idea. Then when they reveal their aspirations they are always taken aback by with how resoundly they are rejected. Just look at that retarded great reset shit. The brainchild of a couple billionaires completely disconnected from the world. I'd bet my left leg they had meetings after that terrible video just trying to parse the idea that no one on earth wants that, or trying to convince themselves that the public is wrong and they need to push ahead. That's the scary thing to me, that we're not being strangled out of a desire for money and power, but instead being given a morphine overdose by those who think they're helping.

We lose about a month of instructional time a year to various data collection assessments and state mandatory testing. Hell, by the time a high school student graduates here, they'll have spent a whole semester of time in high school on this shit.

They'll only be able to use that to track what people are doing in the office and ot much else. RFID chips only work with the help of magnetic waves and their signals are really weak which makes it unviable for tracking outside of the office, basically corporate will only be able to see where they scanned it during the day. By no means a good thing but its not putting a straight up GPS tracker in people, your smartphone is already doing that job. Conspiratards focus too much on creepy microchips and dont focus enough on the actual dystopia data collection that is already happening thanks to proprietary software and hardware.

From first hand experience, execs know pandering to the woke is a wound to profitability, they just think its the right thing to pander to.

Hell they probably understand the consequences of their actions better than you do. Because they're smarter than you, have more resources than you and have people smarter than you assisting them. They have access to more data than you ever will.

It is reasonable to assume some players may not know how to look around in an FPS yet. And seeing as you're about to play an FPS when starting halo it's a fitting place to put a tutorial.
This situation is completely different. An RPG book is not the proper forum for teaching kids how to play nice together, and the fact that the writer thought they had any special wisdom to share compared to anybody buying their product confirms a pervasive stereotype regarding the kinds of people getting jobs in the industry.

They've already established it as a possibility, and between the continuing loosening of FDA regulation and authorities quietly pushing the idea (which is where the "you vill eat ze bugs" even comes from in the first place, UN recommendations and some other places literally pushing for it), it's not much of a stretch that in the future, your teddies will be chicken flavored nugget product* that's 30%reconstituted insect protein. Below top level, they're Marxists who earn six figures. People like Google CEO probably know what the end game will look like but I think they're not actively malicious, they just think in function of their corp's growth. If you don't make a browser that is convenient and free and gives you the best results people won't like it. So you have to create a privacy monster but there's no other way. If you don't do it, someone else will do it. China will do it. If you don't spy to serve content, China will do it with their own app. It's just a giant game where people are pawns. Corporations are really getting strange to work in, top level or bottom. About half a year ago, a large dept at the company I work at was nixed and replaced with a contract company. Nobody had any clue why it happened, who ordered it, which department the work originally started in, nor what year the plan began. No one from the CEO down actually wanted this, but the sunk cost of the contract forced it through. It's shit like that the makes me almost feel corps have a life of their own, as science fantasy as that thought is.

>>
>>80063975
In many ways, they do. So many people at or just below the executive level are locked into procedures and protocols that there is often no human choices. Procedure says you have to lay off that department, and if you don't, HR procedure requires them to write you up, and if they don't, their boss's procedure says they have to be fired for failing to perform, and if all of that fails, there's an independent law firm ready to sue the executives personally for failing the shareholders. And then along that whole chain, nobody takes responsibility for it because it was an automated event that they just had to rubber stamp. That's why companies have been replacing humans with algorithms, these things are already automatic, and you don't really need a human to sign on the line when they have no alternative options to begin with.

They actually do. Corporations large enough are macro-organisms. Talk to certain people who work at low level management in a corp and question what the corp is doing, they'll reply to you that Corp Incorporated is made of people, if they go down all the people working for it go down too... So it's not like you can stop doing what you're doing, in a sense all the evil shit they're doing is for the good of many people, and so on. This is why I cannot imagine Google CEO as a cackling maniac pulling the strings. He's replaceable, Google is literally too large to fall, if a cell goes bad that single cell cannot kill this organism unless many, many cells go wrong. But the organism has safeguards in place to prevent that from happening. Every other cell will prevent that.

You are free to do whatever you are doing but if you don't like the dystopia illustrated ITT then you're a hypocrite. This is not christcuckery or some other thing in your book of strawmen, it's the simple fact that if you like this kind of life you're contributing to the end game. People have started this all by looking at illusory savings without considering hidden costs. Everything that people have been doing in virtue of immediate self-satisfaction is coming to bite our collective asses. Culture is fucking dead because of this attitude, everything that would have saved us from this endgame is dead because of this attitude.

This is the result of the industrial revolution. Before that time there were layers of superstition, religion, community and scarcity keeping people together. The thing is that in modern times people behave better, but they behave better because they behave lawfully. People in the past, when they did act better, did so because they behaved morally. The industrial revolution caused everyone to simply drop all moral behavior in favor of lawful behavior, but lawful behavior isn't a safeguard against things that harm yourself or your community, because the law doesn't give a shit about that. Morals do. After a century of war against "bigotry" to promote all of today's new values we have a bunch of people who think of morality as things that should be legal to do. That's it, there's no "good" today. There's no "virtue" today, if you act honestly or generously but you fail to make returns you're only a retard and your story is forgotten. You're only a virtuous person if you manage to find success through your "virtue". This is a broken way of looking at things because people have simply forgotten what this shit means, why you're supposed to act morally, what it does for you and so on. This is why you have tradcucks who are literally the same as hard commie SJWs but painted another color. The only reason why people have not realized this yet is because the loss of morality is so great and so heavy that they refuse to accept it, but it's already happened.
>>

>>80064555
You're right about education but things have evolved by leaps and bounds when it comes to education and this pressure is orders of magnitude more difficult to resist when it's carried out by peer pressure rather than top-down authority. This is the infallible thing about social media bullshit, you don't have to force education down people's throat, you just give them a prompt and they'll do it for you. People have a predictable behavioral pattern which is always choosing the path of least resistance, dress whatever you want them to do as the most convenient, less stressful way of doing things and they'll go to war with everyone who disagrees.
>>
>>80064487
That is almost certainly part of it, but I think another major part is just how fucking complex everything is today. Thanks to the internet, there's a million different causes all important or claiming to be import begging for money or resources or time. This wouldn't be too bad, as there still are obvious legitimate causes to dedicate yourself to helping, except humans are programmed to try and cover and fix everything we hear about. In doing so, we don't really help anyone and end up frustrated and depressed. I really wish we had an easier time focusing on the one or three things that are close to our heart, and to everything else we just admit we don't really care enough to devote ourselves.
>>
>>80062284
The microchip thing is data collection though. The only way to solve this is to make sure that open software and hardware becomes mainstream, ideally by legislation.
>>
>>80064629
>I think another major part is just how fucking complex everything is today.
It's not complexity. I think technology has streamlined as much as it has complicated things. The problem is that there are too many people, just too fucking many and they are all competing for a smaller and smaller sum of money.
>>
>>80064650
>The only way to solve this is to make sure that open software and hardware becomes mainstream
We're past the point where this is important. If a site demands you that you're logged into your account to see the content, it doesn't matter if you're doing that through an open source software. This is the only reason why Google pretends they care about open source. We're past the era where software is something you buy. What matters is the service, and you will never achieve anything when it comes to data collection that happens at server level.

You probably weren't listening to the underlying threats.
My country's media was going "not eating bugs could very well be evil and climate change-denying" right up until they got actual phds in the studio who told them that they were completely wrong, insinuated that they were fucking morons on live television and bugs weren't even close to viable to solving any of the real issues.
They dropped it shortly afterwards but not before making some clickbait from some utter psycho researcher from an unrelated field about the future of ecology being eating human meat.

The internet has become worse over the last 10 or so years

How is that not imagining a better world on their part. From their point of view they're creating a better world: one without us. At least not any form of "Us" that we would recognize.

I once met a CoO of comcast who had golfed with Gates, the guy is apparently a legit sperg who really is obsessed with his micromanagement and shit like "How will you keep the plebs from lynching us when we fire them all for robots?" Even on his social time.

You should be aware that the commie revolutions of the 1800s and early 1900s will NEVER come back.
Modern commies would rather simp for Corps that ban people for misgendering and doomscroll on Reddit than do any meaningful change. And if someone does spearhead a revolution, it would would never gain any traction because those same commies would rather talk about LGBT, POC, and climate change than threatening the elites.

The computer knows where the human is at all times. It knows this because it knows where the human isn't. By subtracting where the human is from where the human isn't, or where the human isn't from where the human is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The computer subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the human from a position where the human is to a position where the human isn't, and arriving at a position where the human wasn't, the human now is

Now get back in your pod 2092

It's amazing how well the far left have been subverted to oligarchic interests yet remain the ultimate boogeyman to the right. The corps couldn't have asked for a better outcome. The seeds were already well sown yes but damn if it didn't happen nearly overnight. Occupy really did scare the fuck out of them. I think you're right if someone started an actual labor revolt if it didn't collapse from within they would be (possibly literally and not metaphorically) lynched for not being intersectional enogh.

Ironically if nu commies had any fucking backbone climate activism would be a huge direct threat to corps fucking up the planet with china and india but no we should all give up cars, ac and meat instead apparently.
>>
>>80069411
>we should all give up cars, ac and meat instead apparently.
It has to be both. 7.6 billion people can't live western lifestyles. We simply can't support that.

I'm going to keep cranking my AC and eating burgers though because this is never getting fixed without multiple states collaborating so I'm not going to suffer as an individual while they do nothing.

traditional distopia usually dont have what people usually call cultural marxism
while those who complain about current era distopia usually believe a thing they call cultural marxism is real.

PS: its not hard to understand what is said to be cultural marxism.
Every idea and action as a premise and a conclusion to that premise. "Its raining and so I need to grab my umbrella."
Premise: "Its raining"
Conclusion: "I need to grab my umbrella."

Everything you need to do is to make people believe at a premise that would make a rational person do what you want.
You can also put people at a situation (make a premise real) that would lead to them accept the conclusion you want.

This. The truth everyone knows is that the individual's efforts are pointless. All the attempts to promote recycling are simply passing the buck to the poor man. You are sweating and eating bugs so the elites can eat steak and live in luxury.
The best thing you can do, as an individual, is to pollute as much as possible. It doesn't change anything in the grand scheme of things, but it's pointless to suffer for the super-rich. Just enjoy what you have, while you can.

They left all their infrastructure, meaning all their farms. Then whitey got completely kicked out and the farms, that were still fully functional, went to complete shit.

Rhodesia couldn't sustain their war effort and capitulated, it wasn't some grand generous social experiment.
>>
>>80073936
I'm impressed at how you managed to miss the point, anon.
>>
>>80073999
That the whites who were still in the country still had functional farms, and then when the new government kicked them all out, all those still functional farms went to complete shit even though they had been functional within that country mere months beforehand?
>>
>>80074018
Leaving all that infrastructure doesn't mean a lot when you don't teach people how to use them (hard to do when higher-tier employment options are restricted to colonists and colonist sympathizers), and just leave behind an unstable husk of a society.
>>
>>80074049
What part of "still had functional farms" did you not understand? Zimbabwe had functioning farms. Rhodesian farmers did not flee when the new government took over. Then the Zimbabweans evicted all of the farmers from the entire country because they're unironically racist and handed all of those farms to random blacks and it collapsed.

The farms are the key reason why Zimbabwe is a shithole and South Africa mostly isn't. Whenever I hear of cyberpunk-esque/dystopian stuff like this, it's only ever really from the US, China or, more rarely, Japan. Why is that? Is the rest of the world just more sensible (relatively speaking) in regards to such developments? Is the rest of the world just "behind", either positively or negatively? Will developments like these also occur in the rest of the west (whatever "the west" may mean these days, technically most of the world could be counted as western)? Also, many people seem to conflate "the west" and "the US" - as a yuro, I don't really like that.
