Post your party! Use a template, or don’t. It doesn't matter.

Yes we were.

What ruleset and splat books are they?

I've never seen a character who was a duck possessed by a knife. Much less one sharing a camapign with a Polish veteran.

Also what was the rest of Vinicious's entry supposed to say?

That does sound like it would improve things quite a bit.

I thought Savage Worlds Adventure Edition was newer than Deluxe Exploders Edition

>>76577439
Man those powers really are a godsend for speeding up investigation.

>(our DM has rather extensive "AI" written up for the beasts, allowing him to make decisions completely impartially about their behavior).
I would like to know more about how your GM makes and uses these. I will make notes about enemies motivations and mindset both to help play them and figure out their decision making in combat, and sometimes reminders that particular abilities exist so I don’t forget to use them, but that’s about the extent of it.

>(pitfalls our my go-to suggestion for all monsters thus far, because pitfalls are amazing)
What makes pitfalls so good?

>We knew the bull was weak to water in some capacity because it avoided all but the shallowest parts of the steam nearby whenever it needed to cross, but we weren't sure why (I had a private suspicion that turned out to be true the bull could be "filled up" by the water and die that way but I did not share it as I had no way to confirm or reject such and baseless speculation gets us nowhere.)

How DID that work anyway? I don’t understand. Does it “drown” if it draws in too much water in a given amount of time? What did it sound like when it spoke?

>>
>>76590831
>So she convinced the necromancer to let her eat him/her/it before setting off to find a new lair?

Yes.

The lair is for the necromancer, and separating them out from Flavia is going to be a chore.

Sara is the leader and caretaker by default because she's more lucid than Flavia and had more gumption than 33.

Flavia knows she's crazy and depends on Sara to guide her.

33 is a humanoid turret. She likes holding down chokepoints, denying airspace, drawing pictures, and napping.

33 has grown more philosophical since it's started to come to light that we may in fact all be fragments spun off from the necromancer's mind as it spiralled further and further into darkness.
>>
>>76590916
He's actually the DM of the Coleo campaign. I did help write some of the descriptions though, mostly the silly ones.

>>76591403
>The lair is for the necromancer, and separating them out from Flavia is going to be a chore.
I was expecting 'mind-bendingly traumatic' but I guess in Nechronica those two things can be interchangeable. I guess this means that the party has a nominally amicable relationship with their necromancer?
Is the necromancer able to communicate while... integrated with Sara?

>How did this campaign premise come together?

Funnily enough, it didn't start out this way. It was a totally different campaign to start until we realized Mordecai and Ysberin had very similar origins. Voltaire was a demon summoned by a previous player character, who subsequently took that character's place when they elected to stay behind-- stakes were getting too high for them. Eventually Voltaire managed to free their soul (and multiple other souls) from the collective gestalt of the Demon they were and redeemed herself. That was more or less the first arc, and what set the campaign into its current comfy grimbright sort of feel. We all take turns DMing, and it really is a relaxing campaign, but also emotional rollercoaster at times. It helps most of us know each other and our characters well enough to create some really compelling stuff for one another.

All this time I spent making highlights on models and I only just realized I could do it on images too.

>>76588462
We just got into Endless Winter 3e. We've been using the Wyrd Dimension expansion that adds lore for some event of dimension hopping and how the setting interacted with our world. Poland has conquered Russia and Germany and Brazil is just a hell-hole filled with former Dread Canyoneers. Glib decided to bring an old splatbook from 2e which has some info on gunslinging and we worked out how to forward-port it to 3e. Dave and Jenna is a meme character concept that the GM allowed by fast-ruling it as variant-human with the Short special rule and some stuff about Social checks.

Did you guys write up, or play out elements of your backstories before the game got going, or your GM and or you otherwise engage in a similar activity that filled in events from your PCs' pasts anchored down who they are

It seems like each of your characters has some very distinct things from their past that shape who they are, what they do, and how they see the world and themselves. You don't usually see that in all the PCs in a party unless it was something that was persued on purpose.
>>
>>76602016

How are you going to separate the Necromancer out from Flavia?
>>
>>76595809

Can you please storytime this?
>>
>>76595809
Going by the timeline it sounds like Mordecai was fished out of the ocean BEFORE the submarine was built.

Also I do like the whole "nobody disturbed their torpor because they were buried in a river/bay until it was dredged in the modern era" reason for a vampire to be displaced in time. Countries on the Mediterranean Sea still dredge up things from before the second punic war.

How did Dante and Ex-Gladiator get involved in things?

Sure, I can try and condense it into a storytime.

>How did Dante and Ex-Gladiator get involved in things?
Well, Salt. was there from the very start, while Djura only came in after the submarine was built. How this came to pass, I will explain.

>Campaign has completely different start with more players and more characters.
>Original cast: Kallinikos (me), sea elf scavenger/know-it-all, has every knowledge skill / Aevelenne, star elf dick-ass thief / Salt., a
questionably human janitor with some crazy skills / Samantha, human who wears nice suits and punches hard / Ysberin, and Mordecai as presented in the image.
>Kallinikos was the one that brought Ysberin and Mordecai together, as he discovered the both of them at the same time, deep in the Pavekian bay. Pavek, being the city-state in which Kalli lives. Big diesel-arcano-punk sort of place.
>Kallinikos sells Ysberin's inactive coffin to what he soon learns is Ysberin's demonic wife in disguise, while bringing the bloated corpse of the vampire to a proper state over time.
>eventually, with funds running dry, Kallinikos, Mordecai and Ysberin elect to sign up for a big job for big rewards-- bringing Aev along after they met her on the street because Kallinikos believes that no one with big tits can be all bad (he was wrong).
>Meet our new co-workers, Salt. and Samantha, who previously worked for the man asking us to sail out to sea and get some cool shit for him in a specific place
>after some debate, he offers to commission a vessel for us
>naturally, we go for the metal death trap that sinks deep beneath the waves
>while waiting for the sub to be built, we're no closer to having money, but at least we're afforded a certain amount of room and board in nice places due to our connection to this benefactor
>however, we are constantly being harassed by a group of hunters seeking out an artifact that Aev stole from them
>literally every other fucking combat encounter is these guys

>have to keep switching hideouts while maintaining a steady income from other one-off jobs
>during one of the later encounters, Kallinikos, growing very bold, summons a very powerful Demon
>said Demon has been a recurring antagonist for another party in a previous campaign, so we thought it was a fun callback
>enemy commander attempts to take Demon with him, prompting the Demon to laugh at the useless gesture, as they would be going back to their hell together.
>however, this Demon would later return, having been bound to do so by the actual holder of their contract
>Kallinikos then removes himself from the party, having been offered a cozy university job for being so fucking knowledgeable
>Demon-Voltaire brings a new lens of how demons, and people killed by demons, are, and how given enough time, even a Demon grows tired, particularly one formed from the agony of soldiers that died in an ancient war.
>with the threat of Aev's followers presently settled, the party gets dragged into two new conflicts: the submarine requires a strong power source, and Mordecai's vampire politics have caught up with him
>Mordy also shacked up with a goblin during all of this, since she was one of the few people to treat him nicely outside of the party
>Mordy and Ysberin are also starting to learn that their pasts are somewhat connected, and the two of them were very awful people
>Mordecai's past meets him in the form of a trial. despite harsh words from his sole living daughter, and insistence from other Vampires that he should be killed, it is judged that his previous self is dead already, punishing Mordecai would serve no purpose
>While looking for a power source, Voltaire is offers up the knowledge of her contract holder who knows about a particular engine built by the empire she once served in life that offers near limitless energy from demonic souls trapped within.
>what could go wrong?

>before we even set out on this adventure, Salt. gets a visit from her sister, who has some surprising revelations for her: that she has a sister, for one, and that she wasn't actually a wastelander, she was just lost in the wastes as a child
>all of these revelations coming after her sister stabs her through the chest with Not-Rebellion. Her sister, Vise, offers that she'll be back when Salt. has grown a little stronger, and they'll fight again.
>as an aside, Vise is also a recurring antagonist from the same campaign Voltaire originated in, and is the daughter of the big bad of that campaign (subsequently making Salt. also the daughter of that big bad-- this revelation that she's the heir to a mass murdering megalomaniac's legacy comes later)
>after meeting Voltaire's contact, they set out for a far off island near the Kasaisan Confederacy, what can most easily be described as collectivist japan with a hate for the paths that modern technology have gone down-- return to edo, as it were
>said island is filled with Demons and other ancient relics from a time long gone
>it is at this point, Samantha kinda just disappears, the player lost interest
>after fighting their way through Demons, they meet what is effectively Madara Uchiha, who shows them the way to the engine they desire.
>Having needed the assistance of others to keep Demons at bay while he does his work, and the assistance of a Demon and her contract holder, he does what he was never able to do before and free himself from the island prison that the engine had created for him long ago
>in doing so, he also separated the gestalt of souls that made up Voltaire, freeing her own in a mysterious fashion, as technically, she should have no physical body, as the Demon remained-- she was simply freed.
>after Madara slaps away the Demon, forcing it back to its realm, he tells them to get the fuck out, because there's about to be a reckoning

>reckoning came in the form of immediate action from Kasai, as the veil lifting over the island prompted them to show up in force
>Voltaire's former contract holder worked up a portal for them to get the fuck out, while Ysberin tended to the Fate Engine
>as Ysberin had slowly been coming into more and more of his old knowledge, he, resolving to finally complete his Lichdom, turned the Fate Engine into his phylactery, and reforming its demonic essences into undead ones. no one noticed, because everyone except voltaire are magiclets.
>the gang returns, triumphant, and the engine is installed
>some time later, after saying goodbyes and Aev returning to her homeland to address some issues there (the player's schedule no longer worked), the party FINALLY sets out on the very first job they were meant to do
>it's here the party meets Djura, who Salt. drags into the fold through force and coercive friend-making
>and then Vise started up the plot of Devil May Cry 3, except with existential reality warping and confronting demons (figuratively and literally) demons of the past.
>multiple factions are interested in gaining the power of totally-not-Temen-ni-gru, and it is leading to a clusterfuck of dangerous confrontations
>Ysberin confronted his fallen brethren of the Unseelie and urged the Winter Queen to return and guide her fallen people
>Voltaire confronted her past self, her demonic self, and her own feelings, in a weird real-dream playing out of a fantasy she had as a child of being an airship pirate captain
>presently, the party approaches Mordy's psyche, who knows where that's going to go
>Salt.'s current win-loss ratio against Vise: 1-4
>>
>>76606692
And that's the short form version of the campaign. There's a lot of smaller details about. It's a very unique campaign among all of our other ones in that it connects heavily to the metaplots of other campaigns while still being a very self-contained story-- it's just that the results of their actions tend to have consequences for the other campaigns. Djura might also seem like a non-entity and I'll level with you, that's because outside of combat, he essentially is. Maybe once we get around to his arc, I might get a feel for what the player is going for, but right now, just a combat stick.

My friend DMs a B/X game for me with houserules to make it even more difficult (even slower healing for instance, and copper standard so we get much less treasure and barely can afford to stay in inns). Anyway I started keeping a list of all the characters I play since I run up to 5 at a time, controlling the entire party myself. It hasn't gone well for many of them. Got kinda discouraged when I lost my level 5 fighter to a stupid mistake (forgot that sleep could target creatures in B/X and wasn't at risk of putting your own party to sleep) but I am getting back to this game soon and am excited to be horribly ki-- I mean, finally get a character to level 7.

ran a campaign earlier this year in dnd, which was a system the campaign was absolutely not suited for but its what we ran. the next leg of the campaign is likely shifting to gurps so the wackiness is gonna be more reasonably ruled. setting is a multiversal dumping ground where individuals of a certain significance to a given realm are imprisoned, with the really strong ones going into solitary. the gang has been breaking in and out of that super-prison and recently reset the timeline to before the campaign happened, with the villain of the first part no longer in the timeline as a physical presence.

Oh Antonio is a completely normal lad, honestly is probably the most sane out of everyone considering instead of adventuring he rather have a nice quiet and stable job to pay off his debts. Our flimsy excuse is that since Wolframa is literally illiterate she probably has some self-imposed vendetta against Antonio since he's both a mage and he's "acting funny" (IE. Just being Estalian). She has grown to learn that Antonio is just being Estalian but she is still single-minded on her initial hunch. Here's also more detailed individual portraits that was done a long while ago

You are right as it turns out, I just looked it up and it seems we a one edition or so behind current.

I'm not quite sure the exact nature of this campaign's notes, but from what I understand it is a sort of flowchart of prioritized actions. it will preform certain actions when left alone and then deviate from this flow when a new stimuli is introduced (one such example, the monster stalks around the forest until it detects human life, monster tracks human life, monster kills human life. IF monster encounters The Slayer! it will focus down that human first. IF monster talks half of health in damage it will attempt to flee back to it's nest. and etc etc.) Of course the actual notes look vastly different from that I assume, but as a player I'm not privy to the details until after the campaign is over.

Pitfalls are the gold standard by which all other traps are measured by. Essentially free to construct, efficient in space utilization, requiring only correct ground and time. All other traps must be weighted against this metric. If a pitfall cannot be used for whatever reason, it is often a good idea to move the location of the trap to an area with a pitfall. I could probably write 10000 words on why the pitfall trap is the best overall trap, but no one wants to read me ramble for five posts. Suffice to say, I hold the pitfall in very high regard, it's only weakness is time to build and lack of anti-air capabilities.

The Bull was essentialy a walking bag of holding that periodically emptied itself into ...somewhere (it was capable of absorbing theoretically infinite mass, but not all at once, where the mass went I have no idea.) The nature of it's body made it completely immune to conventional damage as normal attacks would simply go into the additional space of it's body. The Water and Earth worked because it filled the bull faster than it could empty itself, causing it to rupture.

It had a voice like rolling thunder and hateful wind.

I meant what makes them good in terms of how they interact with game mechanics to bring about the desired result of containment and door killing in a way that is superior compared to other traps.

Is fall damage a big deal in Savage worlds or something? Is it easy to make a pit pretty much impossible to scale for something that is fallen into it?

Fall damage in savage worlds is 1d6+1 per 10 feet, and if you roll a 6 you roll again and add the damage. So 30 feet of pit will cause 3d6+3 damage, which is good but not insurmountable. One can also rig sharpened wooden spikes at the bottom for more damage, also only costing time and effort.

Pitfalls are also easy to rig against climbing out of for most creatures (smaller apes and monkeys excluded) simply by rigging a series of downwards pointed spiked in the "lip" of the trap. Monsters that attempt to crawl out will also suffer attacks and pushes from characters that a readied at the edge. Monsters a forced to try to get out if they wish to flee or fight, and suffer the fall damage every time they fall back down. Climbing out is either a skill or raw strength check, with penalties based on personal weight vs fitness, most monsters are unfortunately good at this part, but the effectiveness increases for humans.

No special tactics have to be used by those who wish to use a pitfall either, it's creation is barebones-simple, the only part requiring and increasing with skill is the hiding of the project. Even if it is detected, it can then be forced to activate by pushing the target in manually. The lack of skilled requiring allows for the ones utilizing such traps to focus more on personal damage output and survivability, allowing for both more wiggle room in case the trap somehow fails and increased effectiveness in damaging and hindering the target of the pitfall.

Pitfalls are effectively a stun mechanic that only allows for one save to prevent (perceiving the trap before falling in, and even if they "pass" the save, they can also be forced to fail with a little more effort) that does damage every time they suffer it and can be adapted for an incredibly wide variety of situations. They are free to create in monetary terms, and can be improved for free as well. Their only cost is time and labor.

Yes I hold sermons on this topic, how could you tell?

Coincidentally I updated the template.

Added a few props, and moved the quartet of ears from the prop collection to up with the main mass of templates.

I also reorganized the 40K props and spaced them for easier grabbing, and found the original, less blurry, version of the Schwig template and substituted that one in after improving it's spacing for easier selecting.

There was also some cleanup and cutting out of holes.

I'll also repost this, with a campaign update.

The group is hunting a former florist who messed around with obscure alchemy. By ingesting a weird liquid known as black milk this regular man first became something like a human antenna that picks up otherworldly voices. By gathering and consuming more of this substance his body has now become a gateway through which eldritch creatures from another dimension enter the world. Eventually the elder gods of that other place will cross over and destroy reality itself.

The only one who realized that the world will end was an actual god, the god of time who can see the future. His "forward memories" of the future abruptly end at the moment the portal first opens, in the process ending the existence of all divine being in the world. To avoid this, he gave up all his god powers and became a regular mortal human. Unfortunately he also lost most of his knowledge of the future and he basically just knew he has to look for a group of people, all women, who are important for some reason and without whom his quest is impossible... but he no longer knew what they have to do or why.

By now they have caught up with the facts. They know what is happening and where they need to go although they're still not sure how to actually close the portal. they assume the florist is by now no longer human and cannot be killed by any conventional means. Still, they are approaching his stronghold, fighting through waves of bizarre abominations to get to the source.

Meanwhile, in a land very close to where the former florist has started this whole eldritch monster portal business, a simple hunter named Fia noticed the land around her slowly being corrupted by some alien force. She eventually encountered a monstrous bear infected by this weird corruption, fought it and lost spectacularly. She was mortally wounded and infected with this alien darkness by the bear's bite but saved by a kelpie. The spirit took her to its lake home, where a powerful nature spirit tried to heal her but only partially succeeded. Fia's body was repaired but the alien infection was too strong. It will eventually spread and consume her.

With what little time she has left she was sent on a mission by the fae. There's a group of strangers approaching from the south, led by a former god, on their way to end this corruption... but they don't yet know how. The nature spirits of the land have an idea how but cannot do it themselves as they are bound to their realms. Now Fia has to find and intercept this group and deliver the message before she withers away.

The friendly kelpie who saved her was then given a physical body made of wood and sent with Fia to protect her. Originally a creature without a name it has now chosen to be called Friendly.

Also, they picked up a blind passenger... a small forest spirit in the form of a mushroom who thinks Fia and Friendly are the coolest.

That's three backstories of increasing complexity.

How do you make all of that work out in a way that is satisfying, instead of it becomming a mess where each character's baggage prevents the the others from being dealt with?
>>
>>76645903
I don't run this one, so I can't say as to the process in which he DMs, but considering that I laid the groundwork for the setting and he has helped me along the way, we're more or less on the same wavelength with this stuff. It certainly helps that all of their stories are more or less centered around the area in which they currently reside. The drama with the Fourteen keeps coming to Hector, Kira's problems are essentially all about the border and its politics that she would rather just ignore if not for Not!Roche and Not!Iorveth. Arturo connects us to the more criminal storyline going on in the port city near our home and keeps us connected to them whether we like it or not. Always a bad day when his bosses show up to "negotiate". The demon thing all happens within his mindspace so we don't need to go anywhere to deal with that.

Ultimately, it's just a careful balance of making sure everyone has something to do during character moments. It's never just, oh Arturo did a thing, it's, uh oh, what mess did Arturo get into, and how can we save him? Like the incident where his bosses tried to drown him, and he accidentally started a demon invasion by asking his mother to help. Kira and Hector fought through the town, making several friends along the way, while Arturo ran through the opposite end of town during in-between scenes, and he happened to be making nothing but enemies. Character moments are often laced into plot progression as far as this campaign goes.
>>
>>76643281
Does Artu, by any chance, throw those knives while using time magic?
>>
>>76646457
Almost. They're not knives but small blades mounted on a glove, like a Wolverine style cestus variant. It's a very old weapon though and not particularly sturdy, he has snapped off some of the blades in battle. When that happens he rewinds himself and his equipment to the state they were in one or two seconds ago, repairing the glove, maybe even healing himself and blinking to his former position. He's not a great fighter but these time shenanigans make him a real pain in the ass.

Until recently Salt. had a bad tendency to consistently get injured to the point of near-death consistently. As Voltaire had to spend a lot of time looking over her and tending to her wounds, she gained an appreciation for her. Now, considering Voltaire's psychology degree, she should know very well that this is a textbook case of wanting to be a savior, and she does-- but she hasn't stopped wanting to do it. Fortunately for the both of them, flirtation from either party tends to go over both of their heads, and there's hardly been a moment to rest and reflect on it.

>>76664140
Yeah logdump storytimes tend to be less exciting.

Logs can be a source of excitement for the members of a group because they associate those logs with the events that were exciting.

But that doesn't work so well for outsiders reading a storytime.

Its usually really noticeable when an anon storytiming goes to, or switches away from log posting even if the logs are cleaned up to the point that there isn't a sharp change in writing quality.

I really look forward to seeing this campaign's story retold after you go back and give it a second pass and get your work proofread.

More exactly it's a supplement to League of Adventure, with a few addition to the ruleset.
I like the system overall, you throw as many dice as your skill+attribute and your success depends on the odds vs even you get; you can choose to only pick half of your total score to get past the roll directly to the result, which means that you won't fail most of the time on tasks your character is supposedly expert at.
First time we are using this system for our campaigns and it's been something like 10 weeks I think

How is the short game going?

How is Summer Afternoon managing to bankroll the party?
>>
>>76674113
It's going quite well, the characters key off eachother well and outside my own personal issues with Forgotten Realms as a whole there's not much to complain about Waterdeep as a setting for their shenanigans. As for how Summer is bankrolling the party, her being a sneaky git has contributed to nearly all of our disposable income since Crim has been trying to teach Lufein how to read and write in his spare time and Lufein doesn't have any real way to make money.

We started in April of 2019. Covid has made playing in person nearly impossible so we switched to mainly online sessions this year. It's kinda difficult and feels different but we made good progress due to the abundance of free time. The campaign is now in its last few chapters. Player characters started at 100 points and now have around 160.

And yeah, that other parallel group is basically Princess Mononoke reskinned. Fia even has the same stains on her right arm and the corruption feeds on her emotions. Whenever she's angry, she gets a huge strength buff and the infection spreads. But this parallel game was only intended to be an extended One Shot anyway. They will eventually meet up with the main group and play a session together (none of them know this yet) and then, well, if they want they can join forces for the final battle, if they're still alive. I just hope we can properly play irl again at that point

Aye. It's been going for a bit over a year. GM/Protoca is Imp's player and I'm playing Coleo. This is Melico's first Nechronica game.

>Is it getting a storytime?
I've storytimed a bit of it already. Storytiming it was put on pause as the Port campaign wrapped up and I wrapped some timeline stuff out with the GM but will probably resume on the next Nechronica thread. I think on sup/tg/ it's tagged as 'Coleo' or 'Humborg' most of the time.
>>
>>76681839
There have been a lot of Nechronica storytimes in from summer 2019 to now.

Port storytime/Tower campaign obviously, which started this trend and wrapped up earlier this year.

Gravel Storytime which follows a campaign that starts off in a post apocalyptic Africa where some serious shit is going down is another one which is quite long very long.

In part that's because the two Anons that alternate putting together installments of it are both very wordy.

Red Planet storytime, which takes place on a Martian Colony where things have gone very wrong.

Aquen Storytime and G___ M_______ Storytime are about short games. Port ran the first and Protoca/Imp ran the other. I was lucky enough to play in both.

Those are just the ones I can remember off of my head.

Among the rest there's also at least one spaceship one and one that involved crossing the Eastern US, the Atlantic, and stalled out in Portugal.

Her eyes emit a blue light that attracts the attention of less intelligent undead. When not in combat it also acts as a kind of mood ring, because her eyes will get brighter when she's seriously stressing about something.

Why this happens? If there's a particular reason we don't know. We do know Imp actively hunted undead monsters before meeting the party, so it's possible she purposefully exploited the ability to lure in prey.

>>76685354
>Do you have advice on how to accomplish that? I would really appreciate some.
The best way to look at it is how to get everyone involved. So, Arturo is getting a one-on-one talk by his boss about how he's an abject failure, right? Meanwhile, there's also another character that is part of that crew who is asking Kira and Hector if they're really alright with this. Also has them consider if they're not alright with it that they can't do anything about it. Creates the tension for the characters that even if they tried to intervene, they would all be in a worse situation.

Another time would be when we were all separated throughout our castle home. We have little magical communicators (kinda like star wars holocommunicators, but with mirrors and particles), and when the constable showed up to ask after Arturo, it was a whole thing to also distract her from another criminal we were harboring. So Kira spent most of the day traveling around with her while also having a back and forth with Arturo on moving the other criminal around whenever the constable got too close. All the while, Hector is dealing with keeping the BEARS that are in the castle away from everyone else, which is becoming an increasingly convoluted task.

The best way to make sure everyone has something to do, is to make it feel like they're doing something, even when they're not. Get them thinking about what's going on, get them invested. Not every person is going to be all that interested, there are plenty of characters in other parties I've had no interest in, so I'd kinda glaze over during their moments. It helps to have the group have a very good rapport with one another, and more importantly, have things that tie their stories together at least a little bit.

WELL,

There was one time when we had to make our way through the rift to the Dread Canyon, but first we had to go through Berlin. We decided to hire a guide because Berlin is a bombed-out shit hole filled with some minor factions from the rift.
Don't hire guides to Berlin.
We hired a guy named "Zemo" and he was alright, made some weird choices at first Like telling us "hold to your asses!" and driving the car through a barricade in one of the demilitarized zones but we thought he would be good enough.
Turns out he wasn't driving us to the rift, but to Hitler's bunker, where Hitler was preserved as a mummified corpse to be resurrected... and we had some gear that could do just that.

Good ole Wolfenstein-esc Nazi shootin, rootin, and tootin.

Went to sleep and missed this. It wasn't really planned, we're just all assholes. So the GM did a good job of rolling with it and the game eventually became "bad people doing bad things for good reasons". The party was recruited from across different timelines to be the 'Knights of the Apocalypse'. Who's job was specifically to make sure that doomed worlds/timelines in the SMT multiverse, that would threaten the balance of everything, were made right and ultimately destroyed. Which includes things like;
>The Choir Boy drowning his abusive father in a pool of human blood while screaming bible verses through tears so he wouldn't summon a multiverse devouring demon
>The Gangster waiting for the physical and metaphysical worlds to become dangerously overlapped, so he could summon King Kong to destroy a rival gang working with the police with a nuclear blast- to stop the spread of a "hyper-reality altering drug" that gave random people on the street personas.
>The Cheerleader stabbed the same cop in five different timelines for different reasons and had to be broken out of jail, then almost befriended an alternate universe version of herself wee were supposed to stop, who had a complete meltdown, shot up the school, and was going to connect to the metaphysical world to do it again in infinite timelines
>Got trapped in a collapsing world and used the power of cocaine to escape
etc etc. All sandwiched between normal high school shenanigans, of course.

>Tell us more about what happened please.

In brief, the backstory is that in between doing whatever we're all being "asked" by a group of mandrakes to go around doing various things. Previously we were in the city of Commorragh doing this but now we've got a ship and are more or less free agents running around the galaxy. Our newest mission, though, is to capture an Ultramarine and we have a clock on us.

So last session:
>The ghost of one of the earlier PCs showed up and tried warning the snakeman about his embracing Chaos, snakeman shrugs off the warning and kills him for good
>Snakeman now has a Mark of Slaanesh
>Later on the Chaos Space Marine (with the help of the snakeman) slaughters an entire village on a nearby planet to hopefully bait out our target
>meanwhile the fire warrior still really doesn't understand what the whole "chaos" thing is really about and is by now thinking that it's some kind of cosmic radiation caused by the webway that's being erroneously worshiped by violent fanatics

>those names
>dogpeople (?)

What's the system?
>>
>>76726045
>those names
The campaign has a definite name structure that all those who are royalty follow. All PCs are in some form part of the great clans of the Hegemony.

The structure is:
>(First Name) + (Name[s] of Important Family Members You Can Not Inherit From) + (Trunk Clan) + (Branch Clan[s]) + (Name of Family Member You Stand To Inherit From)

So middle names are essentially a list of important people you are related to, and one's last time is a trailing list of clan, branch, and branch. Also because inheritance laws are complex in the setting, often making it so you could inherit from someone you're not directly related to, you list that at the end. Normally you only list primary inheritance, but people will sometimes list multiple.

Names can get really long, such as:
>Zhavd (first name) + Imtshï Tût Fúvdu (important family members) + Rädnu (trunk clan) + Tøk Tùytùnkh Hadën (clan branches) + Tøg Shawsksø (primary inheritances)
>Zhavd Imtshï Tût Fúvdu Rädnu Tøk Tùytùnkh Hadën Tøg Shawskso

>dogpeople (?)
They're humanoid rodents, descendant from arboreal ones. Closest would be carnivorous squirrel people.

>What's the system?
Shame to admit it, but heavily modified Pathfinder. I abandoned vancian casting for Spheres casting a long time ago, the game is much better for it. Also making use of both 3rd party kingdom building supplementary rules and homebrew ones.

Are you drawing on paper or digitally?

If you are drawing digitally then please draw with hard edged brushes instead of brushes with dithering. (As in if the template is black and white, then there is a hard transition between black and white pixels instead of having a gradient or dither of grey pixels where black and white meet.)

It's way way easier to use a template when there's no fading between colors or areas fuzzy color in the template.

>Is sovanna a migrant workers by choice rather than necessity?
It was the occupation of both her parents so it's the only life she's ever really known. Over the course of the campaign she got more attached to the city. After the campaign ended she decided to stick around, at least for the spring.

>How did Thadd become a Paladin of a god of duty, loyalty, righteousness given his behavior?
Since they used to be very active in dealing slaves and poison, House Rosznar had a pretty bad reputation in Waterdeep, one that they were trying hard to fix. They sent Thadd away against his wishes to become a paladin of Torm, but only because Torm is one of the most revered gods in Waterdeep. He actually took to his oaths really well, and never broke any of his tenents with one exception. He's still a hooligan outside of them though.

>What makes Finneas scary when mad?
Due to a family curse, Finneas has to constanly keep calm to control his blood powers. When he loses his temper, his blood overwhelms him and he flies into a bestial rage. He's a very patient man, so it only happened twice, once when we were robbed and once when he though Suncat betrayed the party to Manshoon. When it happens he turns in to a freaky cat-man hybrid and he can no longer tell friend from foe.

>Please tell us about Threestring the local bard.
Threestrings was an NPC bard who worked at the Yawning Portel. His gimmick is that he plays a lute that only has three strings. He was friendly, but awkward and kind of shy.

When we first saw him performing, Suncat and Thadd had already had a few drinks and decided to heckle him. Suncat didn't like Threestrings because he thought his gimmick was tacky and that he was a hack. Thadd did it because he wanted attention. We decided there that Thadd was Threestring's childhood bully.

It sort of became a running gag that Thadd had become a better person, but was still rude to Threestrings. It only dawned on him how cruel he'd been at the end of the campaign, when he witnessed a local boy getting bullied on the street. One of the last things he did in the campaign was apologize.

Suncats bullying of Threestrings was mostly about his skills as a bard. He was jealous that Threestrings got to play the Yawning Portal while Suncat had to play in the streets. After a very intense lute battle, they eventually earned each other's respect.

Amon was friendly to Threestrings from the start, and bought him a drink after the rest of the party left because he felt bad about the heckling. After that he became Amon's confidant in-between jobs, and often helped him get dirt on the Zhents.

I've played in campaigns that had Tabaxi PCs. I've played in RIFTS which had things like grackletooths as PCs which are somewhat reptilian and are digitigrade.

I've never actually played in a game that had Lizardfolk as enemies or PCs. I just kind of assumed they were digitigrade.

>So, Arturo is getting a one-on-one talk by…
>Another time would be…

The uniting theme here seems to be a situation comes up that manages to get everyone involved in some way.

The PCs in the party all at least have some form of bond by this point so having an NPC play on that with two PCs while the third PC is getting dressed down by his boss is able to guide the players to become invested in the scene.
In the second example the Constable is after someone Kira is harboring, would arrest Arturo on sight anyway, and I’m guessing Hector wants to keep everyone safe from the bears or would be disgraced or get in legal trouble if it came out the castle that at least nominally belongs to him has a bear problem. So the constable becomes EVERYONE’S problem and the party has to work together to stay out of trouble. Again it helps that they are all bonded enough to want to protect eachother even at risk to themselves.

>Another time would be when we were all separated throughout our castle home. We have little magical communicators, and when the constable showed up to ask after Arturo, it was a whole thing to also distract her from another criminal we were harboring. So Kira spent most of the day traveling around with her while also having a back and forth with Arturo on moving the other criminal around whenever the constable got too close. All the while, Hector is dealing with keeping the BEARS that are in the castle away from everyone else, which is becoming an increasingly convoluted task.

This sounds amazing.
How does your GM keep track of all this and keep the pace of the game moving? This is something I have been struggling with.

Going off on a semi-related tangent. I noticed in relating an earlier incident you said:
>Kira and Hector fought through the town, making several friends along the way, while Arturo ran through the opposite end of town during in-between scenes
I’m going to assume that having a system or guidelines for when to jump between scenes when the party is separated can help keep things moving as it prevents single cuts from running too long.
If I’m mistaken please correct me.
What sort of guidelines does your group use when deciding to cut between scenes?

>>76742726 >>76742763 Thank you for answering my questions. It’s interesting hearing about how Sovanna, Thadd, and Amon changed.

What did Suncat do to join and keep a place in the party? Nothing in his description except maybe that he has a small following among the rebellious youth of waterdeep seems particularly beneficial. His relationship with Finneas gives him a connection to the party, but doesn’t suggest usefulness or benefit on its own.

What happened to make the party, or at least Finneas, to think Suncat betrayed the party?

Reptilian races should only be digitigrade if they're meant to evoke dinosaurs or the handful of specific lizard species that are. Almost all reptiles are plantigrade.

>What did Suncat do to join and keep a place in the party?
Suncat originally was offered to join the party because Thadd was a fan. After their first job together, they were rewarded with a bar. Since he was now a business partner, they were sort of stuck with him. However, he did pull his weight in the party. For one he knew the streets of Waterdeep like the back of his hand, and without him leading us through the back alleys of the city, we would have been in serious trouble many times. Also, he's a god at recon, due to his great hearing and knowledge of the underbelly of the city. He was honestly one of the most useful members of the party.

>What happened to make the party, or at least Finneas, to think Suncat betrayed the party?
The party was able to swipe the BBEG's magcuffin from under his nose. The party allowed Suncat to be the one to guard it because he was the slipperiest and by that point he had won our trust. Before we could make use of the macguffin, we were ambushed and Suncat was taken prisoner, but he was able to slip the macguffin to Finneas before he was knocked out.

The macguffin was a magic stone that could unlock the path to a vault containing a small fortune in gold. The day after Suncat disappeared we set out to rescue him before securing the vault, but he caught up to us as we left home. It turns out he was able to escape and free himself.

With that settled we headed to the vault, and long story short when we actually found the vault, we got ambushed by Manshoons cronies and Suncat drew his sword on us. It seemed as if Suncat had cut a deal with them and led them to us.

After a long and intense battle, Finneas, in a rage, dealt the killing blow to Suncat. Instead of him dying, Suncat's body melted into snow. It turned out that the Suncat who betrayed us was a Simulacrum created by Manshoon and the real Suncat was still in danger somewhere. Our final quest was to rescue the real Suncat.

>What does this mean? What is a holy revelation?
In the culture of the Hegemony one has to be 'confirmed' to be considered and adult and able to inherit lands/titles. This is a tradition where a child is turned out into the ice and cold, at night, normally in a sacred place. As they get hypothermia the gods are able to worm their way into their minds. This is not a guaranteed process and children will sometimes take multiple attempts to form this connection or never form it.

>What does this mean? Does the turn people into wendigos or fuck with any non-freezing weather wherever he goes?
In a way a Wendigo would be a good comparison. The gods are very loud in his mind. They force him to lose himself and commit violent and dangerous acts as they try and wrest control of his body. The god's minds are not like mortals, they communicate in emotion and desire, and their minds move at the pace of glaciers.

>Snër Yǔsh yeù Sjørx-Umøndfa Sounds like a crusader to me.
He is very much a crusader. Extremely pious and completely insane.

>I do like how everyone here has some very solid reasons to uproot their lives and go fight in another part of the world. Nobody is doing it for no reason.
I asked everyone to bring a character who was sent to the southern conquest as either an agent or as a failure, and everyone brought cool ideas.

Did the players play the top group, TPK, then play the bottom group?
How did Jin become the number 1 bitch?
Why was Coco paranoid?
Why is Dahlia alleged?
Why is Aster a dog?

Not that anon, but DM for that group:
>Did the players play the top group, TPK, then play the bottom group?
I made the group a list of premade characters to choose from for a short interim game. The characters they didnt pick to play were found dead at the start of the game, apparently cremated in their stasis pods. The group on the bottom are the three that were picked.
>How did Jin become the number 1 bitch?
Violet got along with Coco and Jin in the kind of way that only people who kind of detest each other but have been through a lot together get along. Part of her method of coping with their deaths was to be angry at them.
>Why was Coco paranoid?
Mental trauma to do with her death [The characters are undead]. She got snuck up on and died in a pretty brutal way. She also didn't blink. Ever. The small red and blue object on her sternum is actually what's left over of her personal treasured item; a pocket mirror she used to check corners without exposing herself.
>Why is Dahlia alleged?
Part of her backstory was that she was trained for sapping work but was deemed too uncoordinated [and also too short] to handle transporting all the required materials. It's 'alleged' because it never really came up in the actual game outside of a certain memory.
>Why is Aster a dog?
She's a Gothic, which in Nechronica terms means she's a bit more animalistic than her peers. Mostly it just came down to her player playing her as a bit goofy.
The 'bad dog' comment refers to the fact that she used to uncontrollably crave human flesh. She had a close relationship with another soldier who had been designed as a medic/organ donor who supplied her with meat to curb her cravings.
And I guess you didnt ask, but pic related is the POW.

>If I’m mistaken please correct me.
As an answer to all of your questions, in keeping track of it all and keeping pace, there isn't really any set system. This is really the kind of thing that comes with practice. The guideline being that if you want to do split scenes, you should treat the game like say, a show, and when the opportunity comes after a certain amount has happened to switch, do so. A commercial break without the commercial. It's not perfect, but as long as you aren't lingering too long on something, it all works out quite well.

Naturally, you also have to have players who act and think fast to make this kind of thing work. We have one player in our larger group that doesn't do either of those things, so any time he has a focus or is a major player in the scene, things slooooow waaaay down.

>So the constable becomes EVERYONE’S problem and the party has to work together to stay out of trouble. Again it helps that they are all bonded enough to want to protect eachother even at risk to themselves.
Ah, missed this little point. Yes. What helps the entire mess all fit together is having the characters really mean something to each other. The players, the characters, the GM's skill, it all comes together to make a perfect little pie. If there's one bad thing in the pie, it just doesn't work.

Also, Kira managed to secure Arturo a date with that constable, and she forgave him his crimes. Turns out you can really bond with someone while you're killing things together.
