>TQ: Who got the best Lore update in 8th edition?
PlanetBorn

>Sub Faction enumeration is finally put in one place and not all over three codexes (from which two are not about PlanetBorn)
>Six main sub factions with main star systems and over dozen of followers/splinter factions

>The Ormande Houses,
Aka Discount Tyar, pushing the metal boxes in space aesthetic of PlanetBorn to the limits with their color schemes, decals and ornamental structures slapped to the ships for the pure style. Splinter factions represents houses, that expanded from Ormande home system, or were exiled (yet still present in bureaucracy and tax schemes). If you think, that PlanetBorn infighting is harsh, The Ormande Houses are something like that, but few thousand times worse.

>Conglomerated States
Propagators of traditional and conservative values. Backed up by monumental military industrial complex. When Conglomerated States are not glassing dirty aliens, crushing perverted human societies, or spying on other UPA factions, they love to have proxy wars on distant colonies with rebellious states.

>Imeretir
Hive cities on frozen, inhospitable world (and moons). Technocratic society, that is slowly turning into some sort of police state controlled by the bureaucratic apparatus. Central Authority, Governing Agency and bio-matter converters for non-cooperating citizens. Splinter factions are known as Exploratory Fleets, which are slowly building industrial plants all over the most inhospitable planets and moons within their star cluster.

>Venezian Principality
Does anybody have info on them?

>The Volcanus Union
Commies in space, grinding precious materials. Somewhat naive, as they are probably the only ones without any secret agenda. Just mining, fighting and having good times with their comrades.

>The Sixth Sub Faction
Only hinted, probably reserved for the planned expansion.
>>
>>76173849
>the sixth
Why do I have the feeling it's gonna be Hellenos Megapolity? There were rumors of them getting de-squatted after that bit in 4/5e where they were playing both the Absolute States and the Concordant Moons, and afterwards their central cryptocurrency station got Ppuk'd.

>The Hussarei are quite unique. They are esentially space Poles who adapted to living on airships in planetary atmospheres. Everything they build is light and durable because of this. Also they are seen by the wider planetborn society as the de facto archivists and historians. Like seriously they know everything about Old Earth from before shit hit the fan.

We heard about the Hussarei last thread. Now I don't know if that anon had access to some leaks about the supplements for 8e but the Hussarei have always been in the background in Planetborn lore so think they'll be getting some attention?

It really is a shame that they never made a !Ruberesque character for the Andromedans.

Would make a sweet ass side mission for an RPG.I wonder what an Andromedan would have in place of a magic sword.
>>
>>76174847
>Thukker
The planet of Werro-4 (or Hogfeast to Thukkers) is, outwardly, a pre-spacefaring planet like any other: nation-states of pig people exist, divided in broad alliances, answering to a sovranational entity at least nominally, and the people don't usually go to space. However, if one went in its orbit (or anywhere else in the galaxy, really), the picture would be rather different, one of raiders, cannibals, rapists and warlords trying to carve out their own fiefs on planets and get as much loot as possible. This is because, quite simply, the alliances of nation-states on Hogfeast sponsor them: shiftless and borderline-criminal Thukker elements are recruited by the "spare children" of Thukker nobility, and said children are allowed to keep most of their loot as long as they give 30% of what they take back to their alliance (also called "Clan") and are willing to send natural and refined resources back to Hogfeast. This has lead to the starking contrast between the seemingly-idyllic and very civil Thukker life on Hogfeast being sustained by the violent and brutish life of the Space Thukkers.

>Necroseers
After "vaccinating" themselves from death itself, the Beżgħanas, alligator-bonobos, found themselves in rotting bodies that are everliving. They created machiens to restore their vigor and to help them find the secret of either True Immortality, or of Secure Afterlife.

>Avar Monarchy
These bird people were actually the subservient species of their home planet. Only after they were genetically uplifted and then mistreated, they could become fully sapient and capable of reaching for the stars. They hate slavery and bondage, and their society is structured such that the distinction between "royalty", "nobility" and "commonry" is one of mere responsabilities and of comfort, not a rigid hierarchy. They lost their homeworld of Avar to the Tyar, and now they are forced to live on ships and the few planets still udner their control.

Infinite hype, anon. I tried to leave the prow as uncomplicated as I could so you could give her proper homeworld-esque elson stripes. That's been a conceit with most of my designs so far.

Been busy for a few days. I was last working on an Ashen frigate but it's giving me fits. I might set it aside and work on something I'm more confident with. Any pressing requests that aren't done yet? Pic related for what is.
>>
>>76174030
>Hellenos Megapolity
That would be truly necromancy move from TableForge. Last thing we had about them was footnote in Tyar codex in 6th ed, where it mentioned, that Hellenos main world turned into local hub for anarchists and pirates after their society collapsed. Pirates as PlanetBorn faction when?

>>76175080
>The Hussarei
I thought, that Hussarei were more like sect/cult, than fully fledged sub faction. If they really have capacity to field PlanetBorn flotilla, what would be their special tech/weapon/ewar/rule? Ormande have their dual gauss turrets and 'Barrage' rule a Conglomerated States with resonating ion cannon and 'Remove the fail-safes' rule.
>>
>>76174847
>Emerald Nova
Rising from the ashes of a hellzone that was once an anarcho-capitalist world, Emerald Nova is a human police state that seeks to enforce law and order as well as protect humanity from the elements of crime and itself. Their law enforcement and military is one and the same, and their high standards ensure that even their recent recruits are as efficient and skilled in fighter combat as they're in ground combat. Though Emerald Nova prefers peace over war, they're likely to step in if someone commits acts of atrocity, especially if said atrocity is happening to fellow humans.

Notable Emerald Nova characters include Commander-In-Chief Shaques, High Judge Freeght and Maverick the Destinybane.

>Blue Destiny
An intergalactic criminal syndicate so widespread and ingrained into general space piracy that you'd be pressed to find a single pirate or even experienced outlaw who doesn't have some kind of connection with them, whether it be direct or indirectly on a "I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy" basis. Even pirate crews who're independent would likely have to make dealings with them. Blue Destiny and its allies are a frequent thorn in the sides of the other factions, especially Emerald Nova.

Notable Blue Destiny characters include 'The Pirate King', Captain Silver Steel John, and Steelpegged Tim.

>Andromedans
These energy beings are a species of energy eaters that made an empire out of Andromeda and harvest entire stars for energy to feed their population, and has moved into the Milky Way as an act of retaliation against human invasions. They come in orange (royalty), blue (soldiers), yellow (workers) and red (psychopaths), each color determining their position on the hierarchy. Andromedans are hostile toward most, if not every faction, though they're often willing to negotiate for truces if they deem it necessary.

Notable Andromedan characters include Nyxa, Mother of Dust, Toro, Conductor of Unity and Ezor, Mind of Entropy.

I thought Necroseers were made up of a variety of different races? Maybe they could use their tech to reanimated corpses of other races to "reproduce" their race that way.
>>
>>76176139
>Ashen
That's a necroseer ship, citizen. Proper threat recognition saves lives.
>>
>>76176139
Isn't that a Necrosser cruiser?
I'd like to make their frigate first and work from there so I have a basis, and ideally, I'd like to make the example ship for everyone before I double dip. But I will absolutely do a Necroseer ship next, sure thing.
>>
>>76176139
>I thought Necroseers were made up of a variety of different races?
You may be thinking of the Ppuk, the Necroseers hijack corpses from most other races (obviously they can't do that on neither the Mycenoid nor the Andromedans) but they don't integrate them, and their quest is to find something that'd allow them to reproduce better than "fuck around with a corpse's DNA until they look vaguely like you, then hope for the best" and "carefully screw, then put the resulting embryo in an incubator because you cannot afford to let the females stop for a second to take special nutrients and lay eggs normally and because laying them is painful enough even without wizened hips, then hopefully they'll be a 1 in 1000 and actually be born alive and good enough to be 'vaccinated' too."
>>
>>76176062
>what would their special tech/weapon/ewar

I'd say they'd have faster engines and a special type of lance for ramming on the front of ships. Since the Hussarei in lore have been known for their lightweight but effective designs and their aggressive battle tactics. So I'd assume that on the tabletop they'd have better movement speed but less hull points and some bonuses to aggressive actions.
>>
>>76175080
The Hussarei are probably the faction most divergent from the regular planetborn. Mostly because They build their infrastructure up in the skies. Flying cities, chandelier cities and all that stuff. They also have a lot of traditions relating to old Earth. Cultural drift didn't affect them as much as it did other planetborn. If you read the Planetborn duology you will know that One of the main characters had a Hussarei tutor who was teaching him history. Would be normal if it was just recent history but the guy went all out on it and started ranting about the HRE. The existance of which would be totally unknown to anyone except a Hussarei.

>>76176062
>I thought, that Hussarei were more like sect/cult, than fully fledged sub faction.
Not exactly. We know several things about them. Their problem was that their lore was spread out between rulebooks, lorebooks and other things. You might have gotten the impresion of it because they tend to stick to themselves most of the time. On the topic of their religion we know that they are monotheistic. I would describe them more like ethno-religious group than a sect or a cult.
>>
>>76176139
Technically, but it's less "made up of a variety of different races" and more "convert the corpses of a variety of different races into non-free willed meat robots kept functioning by cybernetics that surpass the biocyber understanding of the other races."
>>
>>76173849
Trion Assembly already have rules and 3 distinct ship models (albeit only 1 is still being produced).

>Hussarei

Extremely lightweight constructions and durable. Keepers of history, tradition, honor, aggressive charge tactics. The rules and attributes could be something like this:

>Hussarei Constructions
>Streamlined superstructures and removed redundant supports lead to Hull Rating reduction. Flat Bonus for Engine and Speed rating. "Armor is required only on bow of our ships. We don't plan to show our enemies any other part." - Unnamed Hussarei Captain

>LAnCer
>Hussarei designed LAC (Linear Acceleration Cannon). Acts as standard PlanetBorne spinal mounted LAC with special rule. When fired in "knife fight" distance (under 100 distance units), bonus damage rolls are applicable, if shot connects. "Fire only, when you see white of their eyes!"

>Winged Charge
>Hussarei ships attacking their enemies gain Armor rating bonus as long, as they are on collision course to closest enemy ship. This bonus is applicable only for attacks from ship, that is on collision course. Armor bonus is multiplied per attacking ship in formation.
>>
>>76176705
>Trion Assembly
Aren't their rules horribly outdated? Like... Boarding and Ramming outdated?
>>
>>76174847
>Tyar
It used to be a democratic heaven with technocratic organization, but over time it morphed into a transhumanist empire with the Sarduni Royal Family at its head and a knack for integrant man and machinery in a way that still keeps the human shape mostly intact. They're pretty aggressive and expansionist, and they tend to try and emulate past historical societies, but it doesn't always work, and their home system of New Sol is at high risk of going supernova soon too, so they're trying to scramble for relocation... while recovering frm a succession war that left Galileo V as the winner.
>>
>>76176409
>>76176636
So the Necroseer fleets would be built around one "True Necroseer" per ship directing their meat robot crews? Would make sense then for them to be very reliant on capital ships to make the best use of their limited population, that and necro thralls can be fairly easily replaced but pilots cannot be.

I think it would be interesting if some of these thralls were given a little of their old autonomy back if the Seers find them worthy enough. For example if a Nova Captain is slain after shooting down one hundred drones they'd leave a little bit of his bloodlust in his shell so they could use his skills for themselves. I think it would be cool if once you killed enemy aces in a Fleet Action game you could have a ship that allows them to be used by your forces but with a basic Necroseer fighter profile.
>>
>>76174847

I like to imagine the Ppuk as a culture that just remembered they have an assignment due in one hour and are now scrambling to lash together plagiarized prose to form a coherent essay.

The Ppuk originated from a race of clone custodians, spawned to maintain the left behind starships of a vanished civilization called the Heritage. Unfortunately for the Ppuk, being able to maintain a Heritage ship is not the same as being able to repair one. Heritage-tech, while powerful, is equally fragile and inscrutable. The Ppuk therefore have had to learn to improvise.

Enter their defining shtick: screamware, wetware that begs for death. So what if your spaceship is made from impossibly advanced parts you could never hope to fathom? Just keep shoving in flesh and cybernetics until it works! By using harvested organs (sometimes entire people) and technology, the Ppuk have found a way to prolong the lives of their ships, albeit by turning them into grotesque abominations.

This ethos also extends beyond their ships. The Ppuk will not hesitate to augment themselves, both individually and collectively as a civilization. Over the centuries the Ppuk have subsumed dozens of races into their fold, in roles from command to janitorial.

It is worth stressing that the Ppuk are not a monolith, but a mosaic. While their desire to sustain their ships and protect the Hollow Suns that birthed them are universal, how they go about that varies from one factions to the next.

Game-play wise, the Ppuk emphasizes maneuvering, attrition management and ramming.

Also they love poetic, fabulous and downright ostentatious names for ships:
>Superior Arrogance
>Godlike Presence
>Righteous Fury
>>
>>76177402
>So the Necroseer fleets would be built around one "True Necroseer" per ship directing their meat robot crews? Would make sense then for them to be very reliant on capital ships to make the best use of their limited population, that and necro thralls can be fairly easily replaced but pilots cannot be.
That is pretty much how it works: each ship actually has only one Necroseer on board, maybe two-three if they are really big, the rest of the crew is, yes, "meat robots" (ever wondered why their assault crews, despite being shit in actual combat, don't suffer neither Morale nor Leakage/Incompatible Athmosphere damage?) who do everything the frail Seers cannot or won't do. Helps most Seers have implanted what is essentially voice commands directly in their thralls' heads, so they can actually issue commands to them while being far away, and basically only the I-ewwel Immortali (Or First Everliving) are still still traditionalist enough to insist in "programming" them pre-battle.

>I think it would be interesting if some of these thralls were given a little of their old autonomy back if the Seers find them worthy enough.
That would sound very in-character for such a faction, I do like it.
>>
>>76176628
That duology was pretty kino. I'm pretty sure it ended up right before the Andromedan War where the student was elected Supreme Commander of the United Planets Alliance. Learns from the failures of the HRE and uses his position to centralize power, taking away the importance of the planetary armies and putting more resources into the United Planets Military, allowing the Planetborn to win several victories. Thrusts deep into Andromedan space inflicting numerous humiliating victories on them till they are forced to end their invasion to deal with the damage of their territory. Gives up his power but before he does names his old teacher a national hero and an example of why the past should be remembered.

This is the basic summary but go read the books yourselves anons. They're a good read.
>>
>>76174847
>Voidborn
Originated from a peculiar planet orbiting a black hole, the Voidborn are a unique race where their unnatural home planet granted them an increased knowledge of gravity. Though not aggressive towards other species, they are very secretive and prefer not to talk much with non-Voidborn. Discovered after the Tyar stumbled by accident on one of their gravitational tethers, they'd much prefer to be left alone and continue to expand their network instead of wasting time and resources on conflict.
>Mesekai
Emerging from the Toxic world of Yorkhai-2, these stout creatures live and die for gas. Due to their unique Ammonia atmosphere, they are seldom seen without their suits. Each Mesekai world is ruled by a baron, and the entire Mesekai space is ruled by the Great Baron. Due to the unique, rare atmosphere of their home planet, the very act of breathing is a priviledge to be earned; the more gas you have, the wealthier you are. And what better way to show that off than filling your suit with it and prancing around like a living balloon?

>Zeckir Commune

Decades before "The Mind" spoke, docens of far away human-habitaded planets foccused on biological transhumanism and the power of human mind. Said planets were mostly isolanist, and didnt know about each other, but then The Mind United them.

The Call it's as secret amongst the galaxy, even for the Zekist (writers hadnt come up with what the mind is, there are some hints but they seems to contradict each other). It was a call to every planet, to every inteligent being. The Call was unclear, but everyone got the mesage "join the Mind to Ascend".

Most empires rejected the offer, some said it was heresy. But said Transhumanist societies embraced The Mind. Soon after The Call, Pyshics were first shown in humans, in some empires planets only had a handfull, but in the ones that accepted The Mind had it's populace ascended.

Years pased, mind connected societies united, human-gene-modding became mandatory, social classes were formed, new species were forged it biolabs, a tradition was set on the stones of distand worlds. The Zeckir Commune presented to the galaxy.

Zeckir sistems work on limited democracies with technocratic organizations having permanent seats and vote. Humans are divided in a class system, but it is know of people being born on the lowest managing to rise to the top, as much as incompetend elites that found themselves cleaning bathrooms.

Some empires say that Zekist are technophobic. But the truth is that Zeckir Commune habitands find AI robots and mechanical transhumanism a techlogy path destined to become inneficient, limited and usseless in the near future.

A life as a Zekist is a live of Sacrifice for prosperity, as Pyshics torture themselves to awake new capabilities, soldiers are consumed on bio-upgrading-chemicals and linked to alive-spaceships. A Zekist will do anything to connect all sapient species to servei The Mind and Advance in the evolution race.

It’s a fucking dream come true.
>>
>>76178441
>ELEGOO MARS
The ancient pattern construction machines. Such power hidden within molecular forges. PlanetBorn are truly the inheritors of human legacy!
>>
>>76174847
>Mycenoid
They're not a "species" per say, as mcu has a literal single oranism that has covered an entire planet, Urllo-2, and then decided it wanted to check out the Univers,e before realizing there were a lot of people ready to ruin his interstellar vacation. It likes to try out new "weapon trinkets" whenever he gets the chance, so it doesn't have a real preference.

>Kyrax
Essentially, bee people who like in a hive mind but not really, governed by the clones of the same attractive Queen Bee and headed by the robobodies of the same bee dudes that were there 850 years ago when the Kyrax took flight to the stars. they use drons, tons of them ,and are noted to be irresistibly attractive to humans for reasons unknown.
>>
>>76174847
>Mresh
The beastfolk civilization. A conglomeration of multiple species and genotypes of beastfolk, they had assorted colonies in their space before civil wars and outside invasion set them back a few centuries technologically. The ensuring years were spent rebuilding and bringing the assorted tribes together under a single banner, and only relatively recently have they returned to their old peak and are prepared to enter galactic politics. Collectively, they are a cautious and territorial civilization but are open to reasonable discourse. They are also biologically compatible with humans and certain other alien species, and each other. It is possible to breed with a Mresh and create half-breeds.

Some of these assorted clans under the Mresh umbrella include
>Rahem tigerfolk
>Kitsu foxfolk
>Tengu birdfolk
>Taurahe cow/bullfolk
>Leonan lionfolk
>Lupan wolffolk

In the meta, the Mresh were abandoned since 1e and only recently were brought up to code in the latest release, so notable tactics and techonologies and cultural details are few and far between (or are at least commonly known). Their current leader is the leonan Empress Simbala, and she refers to the Mresh as a whole as her "pride." Another choice Mresh character is Nalia Dewdrop, a Mresh Ace.

Yeah Trion Assembly were a weird faction of Planetborn. They were one planet in the fluff that was charged by the Alliance Government with producing a variety of unique prototype designs and were in charge of the most advanced tech but they had an extremely gimped fleet list. The "Automated Systems" rule reduced their boarding value in exchange for armor and speed. So against any Fleet with decent boarding capabilities you'd be screwed even more so than vanilla Planetborn. Yeah their models are still in production but they haven't had any rules for them in a while.

The only decent thing they have is the Trion Test-Admiral Leader you can take for regular Planetborn, giving them some access to some decent upgrades for firepower and ewar values.

I think the Mesekai need a little more love in the lore. We've had them described in some fleet lists as having a President and in others as them having them as a Great Baron.Tableforge hasn't really been consistent but I do like how they're described as being a race well adapted to environment suits and chemical warfare. Mesekai chem suits are well adapted to all kinds of atmospheres, backpacks are full of liquid Methane which is transformed into a gaseous form, and all masks on the suits are unique to the Mesekai wearing them.So Chem Troopers would have very intimidating looking facemasks, the upper classes having face masks encrusted with crystallized methane and all others having simpler painted ones.

I wish we'd get some more information about Mesekai culture. They've always been pretty cool.

>he ancient pattern construction machines. Such power hidden within molecular forges. PlanetBorn are truly the inheritors of human legacy!

Honestly with replicator technology allowing carriers to break down wrecks and asteroids to produce drones in the field it would make sense for the different nations to use massive scale 3D printers to produce ships.

How about this:
>Kyrax are a xeno-insectoid species
>Billions of mostly unintelligent drones make up the majority of the race. Kyrax vessels make use of mainly analog technology and use their massive populations to have massive crews
>Females are the administrators and specialists of the race. Second biggest section of the population. Extremely intelligent and in some cases can be trained to be biological computers capable of tens of millions of calculations per minute
>Males are warrior forms, they can be genetically modified to be stronger and tougher or lithe and agile by the will of their queen.
>Queen controls all functions of Kyrax society. They can use their will to modify their own genetic structure and the structure of the eggs they lay to suit the needs of the colony. Can have a number of different forms depending on which race they interact with the most;will modify themselves to have a Bipedal form and mammalian looking structures to gain favor from humanoids or more bestial and animal looking to appeal to their own species. The authority of a Queen is rarely questioned in her direct presence as they can use intensely strong pheromones to bind others of her race to her will, but the distances involved in maintaining an interstellar empire means she will often have to birth additional Queens to directly manage colonies for her and enforce their rule. Kyrax government is very authoritarian where the entire daily lives of all members of a Colony are managed by their Queen but it is stable and everyone is given their role to play in it.

They do mention the existence of actual serfs, who can be both farmers and artisans; a religion that worships the god Kroa (apparently quite similar to Vudun Bondieu but more contemptous); and a game called gajion (which is implied to be a cross between Majohong and Domino). I do agree their culture is mostly underfleshed abd not very consistent, though.

Other noted members of the Kyrax include:
>Threadweaver Isica, the Spider Queen
Ruler of the Arachnaea, a Kyrax proxy.

A classic case of "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." While fewer in number than the Kyrax, the Arachnaea are inimitably deadly to them, with Isica herself acknowledged by Hive Queen Revaxa herself to be one of the only individuals in the galaxy who could genuinely destroy her. Isica and her spider brood were taken on by the Kyrax to avoid further bloodshed, self-appointing themselves as the Kyrax Empire's proverbial sword of Damocles and ensuring destruction should the Kyrax invite destruction upon them. That relationship understood, Isica has become one of Revaxa's most trusted advisors.

It's kinda hard to sell people on the bug faction if they don't have something to work with. "What Tangled Webs" was a short story that was basically just Revaxa and Isica sitting in a room and arguing with each other on various issues and establishing their relationship, and it's much easier to see it play out with words than just a bunch of hissing and buzzing and square-dancing. The humanoid form options is clearly only a thing for this most exclusive upper echelon of Kyrax and isn't indicative of the entire faction. Besides, if you're going to argue about "coomer factions," you should've complained about Nyxa, Mother of Dust.

Way i see it, Voidborn tend to use 'terrain' traps etc. So weapons like mines or graviton strands, usually ones that disable engines or otherwise slow the enemy down. And then the Voidborn kite them from beyond the enemy range, or use their gravity manipulation to damage enemy ships, rarely swinging in their blind spots to do close range damage because Voidborn ships are fragile.

I think part of the confusion comes from the fact that the term "queen" in context of the Kyrax is much closer in definition to "manager" in term of practical functions. A Kyrax fleet might have multiple queens acting within its overall hierarchy.

>>76183576
>>76184742
"Paths of Least Resistance" has the Kyrax doing under-the-table deals with Emerald Nova behind the Arachnaean's backs, and pretty heavily implies they occasionally leak intel about the Arachnaeans to other factions.

Trion rules were last updated in 6e so they're still viable. Though in general they're essentially 90% vanilla Planetborn and honestly a better option than Volcanus Union in Fleet Command, and they're not too shabby in Admirality. That being said, their only really worthwhile unique vessel was the Command and Control Vigilship, especially if you were running ewar or comm-sync lists.

>>
>>76185425
>Not getting a 7e splat
>Not getting an 8e release

As much as I can hope for it anon most likely they're gonna get folded into vanilla Planetborn with their unique ships becoming rare choices in a Planetborn Fleet for FA.

Would a system where there are Common,Special and Rare choices make sense for this game? Like WHFB where you can take certain percentages of your total points as Special and Rare units except in this case you could perhaps be able to have Special Characters that could give you bigger proportions or discounts for certain specific types of ships. I also vote that we add some escort ships into the Mainline category, with Support instead being specialized vessels like ewar ships and repair vessels and Command being your /Commodore/Admiral/Warlord. Just some thoughts.
>>
>>76186018
Imeretir haven't gotten anything since 6e either, Hussarei haven't gotten anything since 5e, and Volcanus is just two special characters and some alt-stat blocks. I personally think that all the subfactions are going to be switched over to a special rules list with unique commanders and Aces with no unique ships. It'd be cheaper and easier, and when you consider things like the Ormande Lancer Frigate that was supposed to be released during 6e not dropping until well after 7e released resulting in no one buying it because of balance changes between editions it seems like the much better move.

I think it'd needlessly complicate things, especially considering you can already take special characters alongside the card mechanic. Personally I'd prefer breaking ships down by class, which is mainly determined by how many weapons/system slots they have available. For example, Strikecraft are your fighters, bombers, and large drones, Smallcraft have 1 slot and are analogous to fast attack craft and missile boats, Corvettes have 2 slots, Destroyers have 3-4, Frigates have 5, and Battleships 6-7. In addition, you'd also have Cruisers which trade shields/hull and slots for speed and maneuverability, Carriers which are self-explanatory, and Special Purpose ships which are centered around special attacks and effects rather than the standard options.

I mean, also beyond the fact that their ships are quite the delicate little flowers?

They are fish. They live in Banks and Schools and have an actual Hive Mind managed by The Heart of the Bank on their home planet. For the rest, they're basically the stereotypical bug species from any sci-fi proprety ever, with the occasional concession to cuteness. That's it.

>Absolute States
A federation of alien species and humans that came together in face of an incresingly-unstable galaxy. They have a Council of Species, which has one member per planet (species chosen according to the majority of that planet) and that makes broad decisions that must be adopted by Sector Chairs who make the actual multiple decisions in their areas of competence. They are nominally very egalitarian, but it's clear tha humans, Duy and Goji enjoy more privileges than, say, the Wanqas or the Opeltaz. Also, they've had lots of bad luck of late.
>>
>>76186772
>they've had lots of bad luck of late.

Doesn't even begin to describe it. They literally lost an entire planet to mass suicide because the local space-god objected to its worshipers paying too little in taxes. You read that correctly: too little. Their space-god was upset that when the planet was integrated into the Absolute States everybody started getting free technology/medicine.

Only, that planet was being relied upon to supply several nearby Absolute States colonies, which couldn't survive on their own, leading to their abandonment.

To my knowledge, Absolute States are also the only faction that can lose a ship to a secessionist uprising. Your crews will literally stage a mutiny and do their own thing. On the plus side, it can be used as a pretty fantastic counter to boarding if you time it right.

The Absolute States is the United Federation of Planets if everybody in the Federation was also a mix of petty, incompetent, naive, selfish, overambitious, rebellious and stubborn.

Strange, the reply you're referencing isn't visible to me. If, however, you take exception to my characterization of the Absolute States, remember I'm using the utopian "United Federation of Planets" as their baseline. Underneath all their faults, they're still an incredibly accomplished civilization . The individuals that make up that civilization may occasionally stray from their ideals, but that's what makes them a compelling faction.

They aspire to something greater, but that has meant sacrificing the easy way of doing things in favor of the much more difficult pursuit of their values.

Sure, now and then one of their ships defects, but there are rules to either limit or take advantage of that.

>Andromedans are sometimes noted for taking captives. While this has the normal, pragmatic connotation of PoWs making for excellent bargaining chips when it comes to war against most races (especially the ailing Necroseers and the more moral-bound Humans), when it comes to Mesekai POWs, since they are forfeit to Mesekai society and are known for never being rescued, the Andromedans capture them for only one thing: their voiceboxes. This is because the average Mesekai voicebox, when used in a certain way, produces a noise that is like the sound of a finely-tuned violin to Andromedans.
>Mesekai POWs often have their voicebox removed from their throat with turtorous surgical sessions with fusion scalpels and extra-hot cauterization tools, then left to die a lobg, agonizing death in two days with a hole in their neck.

Describe how your main faction plays and how it looks anons. I'll have a go with the Planetborn as I've been playing them the longest.

>All ships are squat with hard edges and simple lines. Vessels are shorter and smaller than their Tyar counterparts but thick with armor plating and redundant systems. Most Planetborn ships will be built around a spinal mounted Linear Accelerator Cannon or mount overly large Gauss and Ion Cannon turrets.
>Frigates and Destroyers will uniformly be armed with Spinal ounted cannons to threaten larger warships in addition to their primary roles. Frigates,Destroyers and Corvettes loadouts are fixed but there are multiple different classes so they can provide all the support your capital ships need, be it ewar or repairs.
>Your capital ships are the real bread and butter of a Planetborn force and you will have a slew of upgrades and support modules that you can tack in to make them more effective. Do note that most upgrades will be focused around increasing your firepower and that you'll have to pay out the ass for durability upgrades, take some "Johnson" repair frigates with your Battleline you'll definitely need them.
>Two main builds for Planetborn Capital ships and that's artillery and strikecraft. Now all of your projectile weapons have ridiculously long ranges so you'll be looking for if you want to go Turrets for more shots but less damage or Spinal Mounts to get some crazy insane damage and critical damage bonuses but you'll have way less shots and forgiving fire arcs.
>Now for Strikecraft all of your manned options have elite ratings and Planetborn strikecraft are extremely cost effective be they manned or unmanned. A good mix of Light Carriers for Drones to soak up Flak and "Beehives" to throw out Advanced Strike Fighters is always a good option. Do remember your carriers will be even more vulnerable than your unshielded Capital ships as they take extra crit damage from being loaded with strikecraft munitions.
Part 1/2
>>
>>76190997
Strengths
>Extremly high alpha damage. A good initial volley of fire will devastate enemy fleets as long as you can keep them in arcs.
>Escorts are extremely reasonably priced for what they can bring to a Fleet.
>Wide array of different Strikecraft variants. You will have a Strikecraft for any situation be it hunting enemy Aces or rushing Dreadnoughts
>"Saturn" class Battlecruisers are one of the most powerfully armed ships in the game for their points cost
>There is no other Fleet in the game that can bring as many long range options as you

And then the bad:
>Your ships will lose the boarding fight. Your vessels are smaller and have a lower boarding value than their counterparts.
>You rely on your armor and hull value to last In games and do not have recharging energy shields. You will suffer from attrition even with your higher than average Hull Value. And hull strip weapons will wreck you.
>Your Supercarrier and Battleship options are extremely overcosted.
>All of your cards are from 6th Ed and not very good.

Reposting so newfags know the proper way to play Planetborn.

Also remember that PlanetBorn weapon systems are complementary:

>Gauss cannons to pass armor with 'Armor Piercing' attribute and 'Targeted Attack' to direct damage to systems
>Ion cannons to deplete enemy shields with 'Shield Breaking' and 'Phase Disruption' for possible sensor and EWAR disruptions
>LAC for pure and insane Hull Damage (with 'Hull Shaker' rule for advanced fucking with enemy ship systems)

Heavy attribute is also nice
>Gauss and Ion cannons can be upgraded to Heavy variants, which double their structural and power drain for extra armor piercing/shield damage

And PlanetBorn sub factions have their special turret and LAC patterns and rules.

Does anybody have some info on their CIWS and C-RAM systems?
>>
>>76191729
>LAC for pure and insane Hull Damage (with 'Hull Shaker' rule for advanced fucking with enemy ship systems)

LAC are a more of a Jack of all trades kind of artillery system. They have the punch to have armor and shield breaking capabilities at the expense of only having a few shits compared to turret based weaponry. And the ability to give your vessels special issue munitions like the Hull Breaker rounds you mentioned or Frag Munitions to give you an AOE attack to take out swarms of strikecraft or corvette sized vessels, though it is kind of balanced in that you only have two Special Munitions Slots per capital ship unless you're running the Deus class battleship which has three.

>Shields:Pretty Self Explanatory just recharging hit points
>Hull-Value:Ship hit points
>Armor Value:Can either be a save or what you have to roll to damage a ship
>Sensor Value:How accurately you can direct fire. Your to hit roll.
>Ewar value:Perhaps an active defense system that makes your ship harder to hit. Perhaps you can sacrifice a weapon system or movement to activate it.
>Boarding Value:Your crew size/effectiveness at Boarding Actions. Not sure how to implement this. We've seen some posts saying how you can put it all into boarding pods and then suffer penalties for your ships being undermanned.
>Manuever Value:What kind of turns your ship can make+Dodge Roll if you decide to make a Dodge Action.
>Minimum and Maximum Move:Self-explanatory
>PD Value: Your turret and point defense weapons rating. You can use thos to target Torpedoes,Strike Craft and potentially some kinds of Missiles to shoot them down before they can inflict damage.
>Cards:Different Cards you can pay Points for that give you access to different Abilities and Boons. You need a minimum if 15 in a deck. Some ships give you specific cards included in their points cost.
>Upgrades and Special Issue Weapons:Ships are fairly fixed in terms of main armament but their are many different modules and refits you can include in your Fleet list.
>Leaders:Your Main Commander
>Aces:Hero units you can include in your Fleet lists.
I think I got everything so far. Anything I missed?

(1/2)

While Ppuk ships are visually varied in their design, there are two commonalities you'll see in any fleet. The first are "screamware bumps", little nodes made up from mismatched parts that protrude from the ship. Since Ppuk can salvage ships from almost every faction, these nodules distinguish a salvaged ship from its cousins.

The actual shape of the bumps care vary. Some might be just that, bumps, while some might be smaller ships, haphazardly welded into the hull akin to an anglerfish male fusing with his partner. If that reference doesn't make sense, best not look into it. It's pretty fucked up.

The second recurring visual aesthetic is the Heritage silhouette. I've attached an image that should hopefully convey it. I didn't have my 1st edition book handy, so I drew from memory. I apologize in advance for any inaccuracies.

Gameplay wise, Ppuk are all about positioning, ramming and damage management.

While Ppuk ships aren't the fastest, (they're a solid A-) their edge comes from a variety of loadouts that can move them (and their enemies) in unconventional and unpredictable ways. An Inertial Siphon can stop a ship abruptly, an Inertial Normalizer can force two ships moving along different vectors to instead follow the average of those vectors.

All of these tricks and more help a Ppuk player in their quest to ram the hell out of their opponents. Unfortunately, don't expect to do much boarding while you're up close. Ppuk boarding teams are crap. (though their boarding countermeasures are fantastic)

Finally, expect to get shredded in combat. Your superstructure will buckle from ramming, enemy torpedoes will rupture your hull, rail guns will snipe key systems. Thankfully, this is where screamware shines. The more damage you take, the more screamware you can cram in. Naturally, screamware is a double-edged sword. Though quick to implement, it lowers the section's max durability and can inhibit still functioning systems. Knowing when to conduct a conventional repair and when to doll out screamware is the mark of a good Ppuk player.

Looks:
>Long and ramshackle, almost no ship is entirely symmetrical in the front, and there are a lot of fine details everywhere, up and including paintjobs and decals. They're also really massive.

Gameplay:
>Take two LSD tablets, drink some Tequila, and charge forward.

Jokes aside:
>The Thukkers are supposed to be constantly on the move: if you stop to do anything, even trying to do a full Battlefield Repair, you've lost.
>With this in mind, their Heavy Cruisers are a waste of time and you should never play them, as they must choose between speed and weapons, which isn't good, because a fast unarmed and unarmoured ship is just target practice for the enemy just like the vice versa. Battleships will be slow, but if equipped with Mass Drivers and Flare Missiles they'll be able to shoot on the move and hit something despite scatter (on top of the extra Dodge given by the flares) so try to field at least one, the "Ravager"-class is especially good because it has no less than 8 weapons slots that you can equip at your leisure and excellent innate Sensor Range.
>Cruisers, funnily enough, will have to be your artillery, if you are so inclined: they can't equip the Fusion missiles Launchers, much less twin them, but they do have the "Code 'n' Pray" that lets them shoot nukes on the move... of course, given their attack radius, you may want to shoot them before your ships have gotten near.
>Thukkers excel at boarding: the "Molester"-class Cruiser, with its 4 Boarding Pods slots and the ability to equip the Magnetic Hook, can force any fleeing ship to do things your way, and the "Violator"-class Cruiser can murder most non-specced ships, especially with Boarding Boars and Pigraiders upgrades. Watch out, though: the strongest upgrades will make so that approaching an enemy ship without attacking immediately will cause your Boarding Boars attack each other and possibly decimate themselves stupidly.

>Shield Integrity
Numerical value in range from 0 to N, where N is hard capped, unless stated otherwise by special rule/card/tech action effect.

Blocks damage at cost of shield integrity. Shields are depleted by successful damage, some damage types can pass shields, or can be only reduced by shields. Once the shield integrity value reaches zero, shields are considered 'Collapsed'.
Collapsed shields are considered broken and Tech Action must be used to reinitialize them (the new shield value is dictated by data sheet of shield system).

Types:
* Ablative
* Recharging
* Armor Shield

>Ablative
Shields are unable to recharge without 'Shield Synchronization' (can't be executed on collapsed shields), which is Tech Action. Most notable Ablative Shield variant are used by PlanetBorn. Ablative Shields have larger shield integrity buffer/value and are more resilient against EWAR actions.

>Recharging
If not stated otherwise, ship will recharge integrity each turn. This recharge is executed at the end of turn, as any received damage to shields or any damage passing shields will nullify recharge action. Most widely used type of shield. Shields can be recharged only if Shield System is 'Nominal' and no negative EWAR effect is stacked on Shield System.
Shield Recharging Rate (SRR): Value, by which is shield integrity restored at the end of turn.

>Armor Shield
Ashen specific system, instead of flat damage to shield integrity, special armor rating attribute is deducted from damage, before reducing shield integrity. These shields are able to recharge lost integrity as Recharging shields and have ability to withstand EAWR actions. Special rule dictates, that these shield can't be reduced under 50% of nominal value by EWAR actions.
Armor Shield Rating (ASR): Numerical value used to lower incoming damage to shield integrity.

>LAC are a more of a Jack of all trades kind of artillery system

Yeah, also remember that LAC can only attack targets within the ships bow/front cone (which can be quite narrow) and anything larger than corvette needs Maneuver Action to position itself, if you want to LAC something outside of zone of destruction.

This is starting to approach a level of complexity approaching Star Fleet Battles. How do you scale it back to support the multi-role fleet while not sacrificing these values?

>>
>>76196749
>box for boarding parties
>box for point defense
Actually I unironically like that
>>
>>76196915
The complexity of SFB is more in resolution than in the sheet. The problem arises where turns are broken up into 32 sub-turns and damage is placed one point at a time in order, resolving secondary effects as you go, and the ships power supply has to be assigned fresh at the start of every turn, and it just kinda goes on.

It's not hard, or damningly complex, but it's a real chore to actually play. Massive ratio of resolution to decisionmaking. Kinda like Battletech on steroids, in that regard.
>>
>>76194309
>Hull Integrity/Value
Numerical value in range from 0 to N, where N is hard capped.

Hull Integrity is basic attribute, which represents ships life. When this value reaches 0, Ship Integrity is considered Critical and any subsequent damage will cause total breakdown of ship. This damage can be external (attack from enemy) or internal (failing system causing damage).

>Repair
In the heat of battle, repair is impossible and crew can do very little to prevent breakdown of internal superstructures. Only highly specified tech (i.e.: Ppuk Advanced Reconstruction, Voidborne Hull Mending or Mycenoid Fiber Regeneration, ...) and Repair Vehicles (i.e.: PlanetBorn Mobile Repair Yard, ...) can attempt to bring ship from Critical, or restore damaged Hull Integrity.

>Critical
When ship hits the critical integrity, there are only three outcomes:
>Bringing ship from critical via repair action.
>'Dead In Water', breakdown of ship hull caused total system failure and ship is no longer active, unable to execute any attacks, movement, dodge or tech action. This ship is considered lost.
>'New Sun' containment of internal power plant and/or propulsion failed with spectacular release of energy, based on faction/class, this can yield explosion powerful as fusion tipped torpedo, gravitational vortex, massive ion storm, or EMP pulse.

Ooc honestly I think if we take away from ships being 100% customizable and instead focus on ship classes with some upgrades and different weapons options we should be pretty okay. It doesn't seem too hard to manage besides having expendable boarding values. I think the biggest thing is just figuring out the basics.
>>
>>76197343
Full customization is pretty hard to work with, yeah. Though we can also just limit it with some sort of hardpoint system. We don't have to go full-bore FT ship design or anything to offer a lot of options.
>>
>>76194812
So screamware let's you sacrifice armor plating to make emergency repairs? With Sentient Drone Cloud support that could be pretty broken as you just keep stacking repair bonuses one on top of the other. Guess that's the reason Tableforge put in the lore that Ppuk hate A.I. and will never work with them.

Looks good anon. Their rules found pretty fun. Needs more morale breaking Screamware increased weaponry in my humble opinion.

Fuck me I forgot the wider greeble spot on the bottom so you could drill it easier. That and I always think everything is those old black hex flying stands you used to get in billion packs from british minis sites but I digress.

My assumption was that it would be drilled approximately here. You could try shaving the flying stand peg somewhat to fit a smaller drill hole, or drilling the stand itself and inserting a piece of wire between the two in lieu of the peg. As a final option; magnets.

Whoops, I dropped a paragraph on Ppuk aesthetics by accident. Here's what I meant to say on the Heritage silhouette.

Almost all Ppuk capital ships begin life as a Heritage ship. Though powerful, these ships are comparatively fragile and quickly accumulate their share of battle scars. Since the Ppuk lack the know-how to repair Heritage technology, they're forced to improvise with whatever (and whoever) is handy. The more combat a Ppuk capital ship has seen, the deeper the original ship is buried under slapdash screamware repair jobs.

Fun-fact: The Ppuk don't just harvest the living for makeshift wiring and computing, they harvest them for makeshift hull as well! Spacewhales, Myconoid growths (de-spored, of course) and defeated Verdant ships are all fair game.

I'm thinking a semi-hybrid between Battletech and Armada might work. You'd have your ship's technical card but rather than fixed loadouts based on the class and model you'd have various upgrade slots to fill with weapons and components.
>>
>>76197443

Harnessing screamware to launch pseudo-psychic attacks on your enemies was actually discussed in an earlier thread, I think.

At least pre-8th ed, you could use weaponized screamware to debuff your opponents, but the loadouts required were rarely cost effective. I haven't played enough 8th ed yet to say whether they've made it more viable.

I ended up cutting off the plug bit and with copious amounts of super glue I managed to balance the ship on top right around that flat area. I'm gonna go into the 3D software and see if I can drill a hole with it that way. All In all I think it came out pretty well. The only thing I noticed is that flat area is a little thin so it would be a little difficult to drill it manually.
>>
>>76199523
Before you go and do that, I updated all the ships in the dropbox with wider spaces where the hole was intended to be drilled to help resolve that.

I've tried to just, include the hole but the size comes out wrong on every print, so I gave up on it ages ago. Best of luck, though!

The Arachnaeans can beat the Kyrax (although it's never made clear whether or not the Arachnaeans would win the conflict in any condition to exploit the victory - or survive as a cohesive civilization), but that doesn't mean they're in a position to beat any other civilizations. They're essentially shoulder-to-shoulder in terms of territorial proximity to the Kyrax allowing for short supply lines and easy logistics. Remember, while formidable in combat, it's made repeatedly clear that the Arachnaeans lack advanced FTL methods. Just look at their stats in Admiralty, they have the slowest FTL ratings across the board and their primary roles are fortifying systems and blockading.

>Shields:
Ablative armor points. Have both a max value and regen rate. Shields regen at the end of owners next turn. Boarding actions cannot be taken until shields are down.
>Special Rules concerning shields:
>Bleedthrough - only available on energy weapons, is a value deducted from total damage and applied to the armor/hull of a shielded ship
>Disruption - reduces the amount of shield points and/or regen rate by varying degrees and duration of length
>Breacher - allows a check to bypass shields for whatever weapon or unit has the rule, otherwise leaves shields intact

>Armor:
Hard check against damage. Any weapon whose damage output is less than total armor value does no damage to the hull or systems. Armor is degraded by 10% of total weapon damage hitting armor per attack round for energy weapons and 25% for physical weapons.
>Special Rules concerning armor:

>Penetrator: Can damage hull points and systems when failing armor check, but lowers damage and does not degrade armor.

>Armor is degraded by 10% of total weapon damage hitting armor
Sorry, but I think this will be extremely hard to keep track of. Armor should be considered a static value and affected only by special attacks and/or rules. It is not realistic, but will streamline the attack calculations.

On other hand, maybe we can replace the fractional values with tokens, which will be stacked on top of ship armor for any hit passing pure hull damage. Once the tokens hit the armor value/rating, armor can be considered broken and player loose armor reduction for direct damage.

Thoughts?

That's much what I figured. The Arachnaeans use the Kyrax as their personal vehicle for self-preservation in galactic business.

Which faction is the best faction and why is it Blue Destiny?
>>
>>76204609
Ooh, I like that token idea. Armor damage token. Each ship has their own Armor Value (let's say 0 to 5), which reduces/halves direct (non-shield) damage taken until the Armor Damage Token equals its value, afterwards the damage is taken normally (unless special circumstances).
So for an attack to damage a ship, it needs to go through 4 things:
>hit/miss
>shields, which soaks damage directly (example: 100 dmg attack hits 120 sp shields = 20 sp remain)
>armor, accessible only after shields are down, halves incoming damage as long as its Armor Value is higher than its ADT (Armor Damage Token), an attack that hits armor gets an ADT put on the defending ship
>hull points, basically if you run out of this the ship dies
Of course, exceptions apply.

I will try to reiterate how armor rating and damage is handled

>Assuming Ship with no shields
>Ship gets direct hit, damage to hull integrity is calculated by Factor (damage / armor_rating = rounded up/down (hull_integrity_damage)), or Deduction (damage - armor_rating = hull_integrity_damage)?
>Even if hit does not produce any hull damage, ship gets ADT (Armor Damage Token) added on its Armor Rating
>Lets say, that ship is corvette and this corvette have 3 ADT threshold
>Captain is shit and ship gets hit two more times
>After third hit, 3 ADT tokens are stacked on Armor Rating and ships armor is considered broken, so every other hit is directly converted to hull_integrity_damage

This can be pretty playable I think. Armor is static, so you don't need to recalculate each time the pure damage to hull and tokens will keep track of, when you can apply damage reduction equation.

This is also pretty deadly, considering, that few botched rolls and mismanaged shields will kill your ship in few turns.
>>
>>76209531
Yeah, sketchups solid tools are absolute trash that completely destroy the geometry of whatever I'm working on when I try to punch simple, cylindrical holes in them, or I'd include peg holes.

If you have the exact diameter of the pegs I can at least give it another go, but it tends to end poorly so I can't promise anything.
>>
>>76211042
The peg itself is about 2mm wide and 3mm long but I can always clip the stem a little bit if the hole needs to be a little slimmer.
>>76210413
This seems pretty manageable.Should we try making a stat block for one of the ships? I got some Orion DDs printing and I got some Tyar Absolution class frigates up next. I think it would be a neat proof of concept.
>>
>>76210413
The only problem I see is that high volume/rate of fire is preferable under this system since any damage to the armor will produce Armor Damage Tokens. There is simply no reason to not maximize number of attacks.

And while it's adding a complication, I really think there needs to be two damage systems. Hull Integrity, which represents how close your ship is to existentially failing, and one that represents things like crew and systems that represent how close your ship is to being non-functional. Plus we're going to have to get around to crews eventually since boarding is a thing.

Hmmm you could make "Armor Piercing a special rule for only a few types of weaponry, making them the only weapons capable of armor degradation.
>>
>>76211399
Shit, you are right. We can mitigate the armor decay:

>Deal with it
Basically, game is extremely deadly and armor only acts as last line of defense, before enemy brakes you down into slag.

>ADT is added only if damage overwhelms the armor
If the equation for resulting hull damage is done via deduction (damage - armor_rating = hull_damage), so we can say, that only if hit yields hull damage, it also stacks new ADT token. This is bad, because if you have somebody with extra extra extra heavy armor, you may never cause any damage to him, nor damage the armor.

>ADT is stacked only via special actions and/or special attacks
As anon >>76211701 stated, maybe the ADT can be stacked only via attacks with weapons, that have special rules on them. This can also lead to potential deadlock, where you loose your ability to damage armor, if one of your heavy hitters is disabled.
>>
>>76211340
I can make stat block regarding of shields/armor/hull, but dodge, movement, sensors, EWAR, tech and weapon slots and all others things still lacks any definition.

>Tyar Absolution Class Frigate

That's why I suggested armor degradation being a portion of cumulative damage done in a turn in >>76202769, powerful guns can do damage against a fully armored ship and weaker guns can't, but weaker guns can still contribute by adding to the pool for degradation.

Alternately, we take a page out of the real world and how naval armor worked. Lots of naval armament simply couldn't penetrate armor, but there were lots of things, often very important, that couldn't be armored. Given that you slot in weapons and equipment systems on your ships, you could perhaps have a condition called something like "Internal/External" that determines if it's protected by armor. Any External systems risk being damaged or destroyed by hits to the armor (and can be directly targeted by the enemy).

Internal structures such as Power Plant, Reactor, Bridge, etc. Can be damaged indirectly (shaking half a kilometer long box full of machinery and people can be damaging).

Torpedo meta has been dead for an edition and 8e doesn't seem like it's going to change much so you're going to be better off with the De Gaulle missiles since the Attila PDs don't have enough range to pop strikecraft using long-distance weaponry. >If your damage and the armor value are equal then you roll on a glancing hit table
>Weapon Systems,Sensors,Engines etc on this table
>Roll on the table to see what the glancing hit does.If you roll high enough might even do hull damage without needing to break through the armor
Thoughts? I don't know how we could adapt it to this system but a table like that might be a good idea.
>>
>>76214024
That could be viable, but maybe the randomness of table roll can be replaced with some sort of targeted attack, which tries to cripple system instead of dealing raw hull damage.

As it was proposed. You can either destroy ships integrity, or destroy all critical systems, transforming battleship into lifeless chunk of titan/steel/crystal/spore. Problem with system disruption/destruction is, that you have crew, which tries to repair them.

Secondary damage represents damage to ship components that aren't necessarily existential but the loss of which hampers the ability of the ship to function. It has three components, systems, crew, and engines. When Hull Integrity is damaged said damage is applied in parallel (by the player fielding the unit) to the secondary components. So lets use >>76212107 as a baseline, and say that it has a crew value of 30, an engine value of 50, and systems value of 50 split between 5 equipment/weapon slots that are currently filled with 10 point gear. The ship takes 12 damage to it's Hull Integrity, which means that the player has to distribute 12 damage to its systems. The player spreads 5 to his systems with each slot taking 1 damage, five to his engines, and 2 to his crew. Now lets break that down:

>Crew: each ship has an assigned crew value representing a full crew. As long as you have at least half your crew, rounded up, everything works normally, once you dip below 50% you take a negative modifier to actions and another once you hit 25%. Once you get to 10% you can only take one action per turn, and once you hit zero your ship is unmanned and can't do anything.

>Engines: simple degradation curve at 25% damage increments reducing movement ability by 25%, both rounded up

>Systems: the simplest of the bunch, as long as it has remaining points it's working

Engines and any Systems with the External tag can be targeted directly, which means the secondary damage cannot be spread out, but also means any excess damage is not applied.

>Coming soon for the Tyar mid-edition re-release:
>not!Screamware
>not!gravity tunnels
>not!Necroconversion
>not!fungal co-option
>All Tyar ships have a 20 point cost deduction and can slot weapons and gear for free
>All Tyar ships get double Hull Integrity points and shields now regen twice per turn, including opponent's turn
>All Avar units must make morale rolls when within sensor range of Tyar ships, upon a failure the Avar unit is removed from play
>>

Don't forget the prenerf version of Shield Disruption Field!
>>

That's not in keeping with Tyar presentation. Instead, Tyar shields will be reduced to half strength with regen still applying while opposing ships will lose all shields, armor-shields, shield-like effects, and shield-generating units, mechanics and cards for two turns.

Got some Tyar ships ready for printing anons. My friend wants to start Tyar but is a poorfag so we're gonna try some 3D Printed ones for now just to teach him the game.

How can I set up a Pastebin for all of the lore and things? I want to help out the thread.

All the enemy forces will suffer complete and utter destruction while the Tyar have minimal if any loses. The Avar will lose the rest of their planets and half their population will be killed, the Concordant Moons will have maybe 2 full sentences dedicated to them in the entire campaign, and half the Absolute States leadership will be assassinated by the other half who will then declare that naive idealism is destroying the Absolute States and that it's really the bastards who rule through murder and brutality who are the real heroes of the AS (despite every single government of the AS coming to power the exact same way for the exact same motivations since 4e) and that they're going to purge the AS and galaxy of the abomination of aliens (despite them being a multispecies faction with half their named characters being non-human) and then immediately falling into civil war while being treated like the greatest evil in the setting not less than 2 chapters after the Tyar do something like force groups of starving refugees into matter disassemblers or sentence people to death by public Thukker rape. As long as Andrew Vastos is around you know exactly how anything involving the Tyar will end.

Eh, I'm sure there will be a C&D from CBS within a year or two if they go all in like what happened with GW and the Thukkers. But until the grimderp fags get kicked out of power we're never going to get "idealistic, benevolent, and a little hypocritical, but it works" Absolute States back. And until Vastos gets kicked out the Tyar will never be a balanced list and neither will the Avar from the opposite direction.

AS are on their third coup right now. It's basically the same shit they pulled on Emerald Nova except that AS has a large enough fanbase that they can't be too overt about the retarded grimdark or jobbing.
>>
>>76222127
Only if the Tyar get their asses kicked in their playtests and/or during a "Lore Tournament", whenever those will be back.

Otherwise they'll put a curbstomp cushion agaisnt the Tyar, but otherwise will win.

Jesus fuck, at this rate even the Thukkers could be a legit existential threat to the Avar in the campaign, and in the Saturinalian War they're just a bunch of pirates lead by somebody with the Thukker equivalent of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

>>76222249
Pretty much. I don't even really understand why they have it so much out for the AS. Did Leonard Millet fuck one of the writers' moms?
>>
>>76222977
Part of it was the desire to move away from so many human-based factions starting in 3e. However, it really didn't start in earnest until Millet left the company around the start of 4e and Phil Jorgson switched over to the multimedia division. Some of the people involved with the grimdarkening aren't doing it maliciously either, Hastens pointed out that the AS were essentially just off-brand Federation in the first two editions and didn't have anything standout compared to the other factions while Duluc has been pretty open that all her work at Tableforge was just her following her editor's directions. But really the problem is and always will be Andrew Vastos. He's an absolute Tyar fanboy who doesn't want anyone competing with his precious Tyar Imperium, wants them to be the only human faction, is a massive, massive fan of grimdark and edge, owns enough shares in the company that he can't be forced out without a fight, and has been Chief Creative Executive overseeing 4 editions as of the 8e release. And for some reason he really, really, really hates the Avar. Andromedians get wanked to hell as well, but Todd Lester has the decency to keep it to crunch and give them fluff losses all the time.
>>

Oh, but Galileo V will die a super graceful death after killing Cawaaso the Sole Regent and only killing three thirds of the combined Elites of the Concordat Moons and Avar with only his ship, instead of wiping the floor, so it balances out.

Also Thukkers will briefly revert to not!Orks specifically so that they can devour Avar children.

Thukker= Wasteful; Rapid Breeders; Repugnant; Unruly; Adaptive | Tropical Preference | Militarist Materialist Egalitarian | Barbaric Despoilers Cutthroat Politics | Oligarchy.

Tyar= [Insert Dominion of Man but with Mechanist Origins]

Absolute States= [Depends on Race chosen] | Fanatic Xenophile Egalitarian | Beacon of Liberty; Free Haven | Democratic

Mesekai= Rapid Breeders; Repugnant; Conformists; Non-Adaptive | Tomb World Preference | Authoritarian Militarist Spiritualists | Slaver guilds; Corveè System | Dictatorial.
>>
>>76224852
>Necroseers: The best option would be to represent them as a Fallen Empire, but presumably we're talking about a "proper" empire here, so... They are kinda a dying race, so Slow Breeders and Venerable makes sense (we can handwave their inability to die naturally in the fluff with "too mentally gone to function"), and they're frail too, so Weak makes sense. From what we know, they don't care mcuh about hierarchies, so Egalitarian makes sense, and they don't care much about other races, so Militarist makes sense too, and they'll be Spiritualists only because their mission so far has been to find a way to die for good and reahc Afterlife as opposed to live truly forever. No known things about the homeworld, let's make them Gai World Preference to represent how fussy they are in what planets they keep; and they'll have Reanimated Armies plus Efficient Bureaucracy; and they shall be Oligarchic.

I'm pretty sure Mycenoids cannot be meaningfully represented, because they're a single giant organism. The best approximation would be a Hive Mind with a Tree of Life Origin, but it's sitll wonky because it would mean you have individuals still, when Mycenoids... don't. Their aces are just "the best shits the Fungus has ever had", as their main writer put it at a fan convention.

The Kingdom of Avar would be hard too, as the best options we have, the synchretic Evolution Origin, doesn't cover situations where the "subservient" sapient species rebels and wins. That being said, otherwise they can be modeled as an Irenic Monarchy (fanatic pacifists, authoritarian) with Functional Architecture and Enlightened Monarch, the species itself being Agrarian, Deviant and Sedentary.

Ashen Fleets are basically the Unbidden combined with the Contingency. That, or they are Determined Exterminators with Tomb World "Preference" because you can't have planetless starts and they odn't build habitats.

Blue Destiny is either a Megacorp with Criminal Heritage and Private Military Contractors, or Barbaric Despoilers.

I just finished to read "Verdant: First Contact": the end result was... disappointing, to say the least.

>Woodfather Ygdrys dies because he was so senile he forgot to vreath. Literally, though, the book notes that noone of his organs had failed and most of his components were perfectly fine, he just stopped breathing because his nervous system got its breathing neurons burnt out.
>There's a slapfight (well, leave-and-lighting fight) between Ezor and Spriggaria, two Andromedan yellows die in the process to stop the fight and nobody cares.
>Blossum gets fucked over by Brogg, who in a display of amazing control for the average Space Thukker, merely pretended to want to fuck her andi nstead just wanted to get free and resume his (baffling, it's not mentioned anywhere else) quest to collect enough Plates to buy a fancy villa on Hogfeast and retire there.
>In the same book, Blossum accidentally insults an entire Andromedan musical group after he calls the Mesekai Voicebox player "a sick sapling" and almost gets lynched.
>Nyxa apparently suddenly gets bored and declares war on the Verdant by going basically "Fuck you, we eat suns lolz" and shutting the chamber's door on the diplomatic delegation's face.
>Lucas manages to score with Blossum's sister, which is good enough for him, then apparently convinces Ezor that Verdant have actual Andromedan essence in them by using too many metaphors.
>>
>>76229641

Got you a map of what I recall from the Codex Astra's map on the Tyar's Core system. 5ed, so may be out of date.
>>
>>76233231
The setting's "Year Zero" depends on the faction: it's never stated when exactly everything has happened since out times, but it's always implied it's long enough away that some older historical figures we know as distinct got blended or decreed complete myths.

For Absolute States, the Year zero is the Treaty of U-Tsangut-Lib, which united the human race with the Ri race, the Duy race, the Goji race and (to the lesser extent) the Wanqas race udner one polity. Current setting year is 699 AT (After Treaty).

Tyar's Year Zero is the traditional foundational date of Nova Terra's first colony, which was on a 21st of April. Current setting year is 1005 AOC (Ab Orbo Condito)

Necroseers are so long-lived that the passage of time is considered irrelevant, but they used to count time according to a tradition that gave a precise date for the first ever sapient creature. Setting time is 23011 SA (Sapient Awakening)

Thukker's Year Zero is the year the first Thukker went to space ever since the "Uncivilized in Space" doctrine started. The current setting year is 3950 FTS (First Thukker in Space).

Swarm do not keep time. At all.

Ppuk do not understand what year it is, they just mechanically fix the ships' calendars to "how it's on the Heritage original". Current setting year on most Heritage ships is 11500 from an unknown year.

The Avar Monarchy keeps time accoridng to the reigning years of their kings. There have been 130 kings since the Avar untied in a single polity, and the average lifespan of an Avar king has been 56 Earth years.

The creature on Urllo-2 doesn't give a fuck about time, so Mycenoids don't have any.

The Community of Zeckir counts since the first time the Mind manifested to them. Current setting year is 864.
>>
So how did humanity get to where they are? Did Tableforge ever give us a good idea how the Human race got so completely fucked?
>>
>>76233231
I don't think they ever mentioned what timing they used in the Concordat Moons. Chances are, they calculated the exact age of the universe and use it to say what year it is.

Verdants are stated to calculate from the time the first Woodfather died. It's been 300 tree-circles, but no-one outside of them knows how much is that in other time standards.

The Ashen have no use for it.

And the Emerald Nova use Common Era... which however is severely implied not to be our own, as it's 3000 CE according to them, but that would mean the Tyar went into space around the War in Afghanistan.

>>
So here's my very ratchet ass and simple d6 system for you all anons. Enjoy.
>To determine your roll to hit Compare your ship's Sensor Value and your target's Ewar Value:If your Sensor Value is +3 to your target's Ewar Value you will hit on a 2+ if your Sensor Value is one or more greater than the Ewar Value you'll hit on a +3. On the other hand if their Ewar value is 3 over your sensor value you'll hit on a 6+ if it's one or more over it'll be a 5+
>Range will give you different bonuses:Close range, 30cm, will give you +1 to hit and long range, 60 cm, you'll have to subtract one.
>Maneuverability:Each ship will have a minimum and maximum move value and what angle turns they can make. They will also have a Dodge Value. Dodge as a mechanic will work as a special action, you will get to roll your Dodge Value as a save against hits your enemy inflicts on you.
>Weapons and Armor Value: Each ship will have a specific armor value. Now for a weapon to breach the armor you roll a d6 and add it to your weapons strength, if equal you roll a d6 on the glancing hit table to see if you can cripple enemy subsystems, and if it is over you penetrate the armor which does damage equal to the damage stat on the weapon's profile. For each penetrating hit you roll a d6 and on a 6 your target loses a point of armor and you get to roll for critical damage.
>Strikecraft only get their dodge value to use against attacks but can only be hit by non PD weapons on sixes.
>Missile weaponry has the Tracking special rule which subtracts from an enemy's Dodge Value but missile weaponry will often do less damage than simple ballistic and energy weapons. They also do not suffer any penalties to Long Range shooting.

That's all I got so far but I think it's a decent start and involves a little less math than what we already have. Now I'd like some criticism and some ideas to fit tokens into it as well because I find it to be a fine idea, especially with my experience playing BFG.
>>
>>76237161
I'll do you one simpler. Weapons automatically hit when the right conditions are met. All weapons have a maximum range and a maximum effective range. Maximum range is the range that one can fire their weapons, maximum effective range is the range one's weapons auto-hit. In terms of basic weapon firing and resolution, sensors increase the maximum range while targeting systems increase the effective range; conversely cloaking will decrease the maximum range while ewar will decrease the effective range.
>>
>>76237161
So I'll continue because I had a few more ideas, hopefully they're not too shit.
>Hull Points:How much damage your ship can take. Some upgrades can increase this and some subfactions can decrease it. Once you are under half of your starting Hull Points you are counted as being crippled.
>Crippled:Your ship's movement values and amount of shots are reduced by half. Subtract 2 from your Sensor and Ewar Values.
>Boarding/Crew Value: This is like Hull Value but with crew. And like Hull Value if you go down to below half you count as being crippled. Boarding value is used if you get in base to base with an enemy ship and you roll off adding modifiers based on atmosphere, crew upgrades, crew size and who ever wins takes a certain amount of damage. Now you can also use one point of boarding value to watch a wave of boarding torpedoes, you can launch as many torpedoes as you have boarding value. Each successful boarding torpedo does penetrating critical damage. You can also transfer crew points from vessel to vessel as long as they are in a certain distance.
>Shields: Count as rechargeable hull points with their own separate armor value. They take hits before they hit the hull of your vessel.
>Morale Value:The Morale Value of your crew representing how well lead and well trained they are. This value is used to calculate if your crew can undertake special orders and actions. It also is decreased by penetrating hits, boarding attacks and critical damage and if a ship fails it's morale test then it will immediately try to leave via the closest table edge and keep going till control is reestablished.

Now how should we handle damage? Should it be everything is multi damage like 40k or most things inflict a single damage point but the most devastating weapons inflict more?

Also special orders and well, any ideas are appreciated. Just my completely subjective opinion here.
>>
>>76237907
I dig it anon. I just wanted to come up with something quick and easy so people can start testing shit out and making ship profiles.

Also do we have a designated pastebin? If not I'll sign up for one and start asking how I should format shit. 1d4chan page to host images might be good too.
>>
>>76238149
I feel like the combat rules should be stripped down to their bare minimum so the level of complexity needed can be determined through playtesting. Considering that we're working with custom loadouts, special actions and modifiers from a variety of sources, and cardplay, the high levels of granularity and complexity should come from the player's side, not the game's side. If you put down two of X ship, each equipped with Y gun, at Z range from each other it should be simple as hell to run combat.
>>
>>76238838
I got some ships printed out, well some Tyar and Planetborn shit, and can probably get some friends together for some playtesting just to try out the basic rules.

But yeah we should figure out the most basic bitch way to do things.

Having multiple empires isn't a sign of success per se. The Planetborn consist of multiple subfactions that have problems cooperating with eachother. The Absolute states esentially cucked themselves to the ayys. Emerald Nova has the problem of having to deal with the Ashen fleets fucking their shit up on a regular basis. The Tyar are Tyar, nuff said.
>>
>>76246882
Yeah, but consider some of the other factions. The Thukker are essentially having to bleed off their excess population and secure more resources through combat to prevent Malthusian catastrophes, the Ppuk are basically cargo cultists with the lizards being a minority within their own society, Necroseers gave themselves immortality without endless youth, Concordant Moons are a literal dog-eat-dog, hyper-competitive technocracy one bad day away from an AI rebellion, the Avar have basically lost 80% of their civilization (both territory and populace) and the vast majority of Avar are destitute refugees, and the Kyrax got strong-armed into a power sharing agreement with their historical enemies who wish to genocide them.

And it's pretty hard to say the AS cucked themselves to ayys considering half their fluff either implies or outright states the humans secretly run everything and the aliens are just fodder and slaves.

>The oldest Ppuk sources on Heritage describe the Volrani being originally aquatic creature's on their homeworld, later modified by nano evolutionary tech to be suitable for the void after their homeworld was destroyed. This nano technology changed the creatures immensely, no longer were they simple gentle giants now they were creatures of the void able to eat the stuff of stars and turn it into Phase Point drives and weapon systems.
>Each Volrani starts it's life free of implants but with a massive hunger but this is not a hunger for flesh it is a hunger for metals and volatile gas; it's nano evolutionary tech allows it to break down ships, asteroids and even planets into energy and new materials with which to arm itself. Adults can reach lengths in excess of thousands of meters with meters of silica and iron armor plating.
>Volrani travel in packs lead by an Ancient Bull, these packs can be in the tens or hundreds or thousands, they use these packs to protect themselves from Ppuk hunters as the oldest specimens will often hide tech from their vanished creators. Swarm fleets will most often be concentrated around systems with a large Heritage presence as if guarding the tombs of their masters but Volrani Packs will often go hunting among the inhabited systems of the galaxy and this is where their "Swarm" epithet comes from. Often numerous Packs will go hunting in one sector of the galaxy eating ships, space stations and anything else that takes their fancy before returning to breed. They are known to track down ships that have breached the space of Heritage worlds and followed them to back to their homeworld as well, laying waste to their planet's in reverence for their lords.

Finally got to look at my new Ashen Cards.Anyone know if Ashes to Ashes stacks with Corpse Life?
>>

Nope if you check the errata it says any shipwreck targeted by ashes to ashes becomes unrecoverable by any other means

What about an angler-like Swarm unit that lures ships with fake distress signals to eat them?

That would be cool as shit. Maybe they're Swarm forms that have been consuming ships so long that they started to learn how to mimic distress calls to ships in
instead of a light on the end of it's antenna it could have a shuttle craft or escape pod, while the rest of it's body remains cloaked till it's prey is in weapons range.

Does anyone have a link to the Shapeways accounts for our 3D Modeler anons? I want to put them in the Pastebin so we can give them some more attention.

I'm torn between a few projects right now, so sorry for the lack of new stuff. I did make this spiffy grid to organize shit I still gotta do though. Goddam there's a lot of factions.
