I got to watch a family rip itself apart at the very last DnD game I participated in

The Irony is I think the kid was acting out something he saw on TV or some such shit because he was giggling throughout the entire thing. Truth be told, the kid is spoiled something bad and this obviously isn't the first time the parents fought around him, like I said, he tuned them out and started playing with something.

Props to the Female coworker who just packed her shit and left without a word. If I recall the details correctly, that was her first or second game of DnD and I wouldn't be surprised if I just witnessed the last game she would ever play.

I don't want to speak ill of the Dude, he was our DM when no one else was like 10 years ago, but ever since we've had better DMs available to us and he becomes jealous easily. He drove off Robert by pissing off HIS wife in the middle of a campaign and has had a one sided rivalry ever since. But the big difference between the Dude and Robert is that Robert spends about two hours each day during the week the plan the next session, Dude just skims through a book 2 hours before the session starts so there was no fucking way Dude's games were going to have the same quality as Robert's.

But what really slapped me in the face that session was it obvious the kid didn't have the attention span, nor the interest to play. It was just Dude trying to one up Robert. After the kid rolled to make his character kiss the female coworker's character, he should have just hit the breaks and moved the kid to the PS4 to play games or something else. But he didn't. And the kid moved on from forcibly kissing to groping her tits and other crap and the Dude just rolled with it while the rest of us were trying to signal him to fucking stop. He just wanted to tell everyone that his 9 year old son plays DnD so he could 1 up Robert and his 11 year old son. Got a divorce for his trouble.

The irony is that the guy is a decent role player and wonderful player at the table. And when he's not trying to show superiority, he is wonderful person. But as much as he GMed for us years ago, he either needs to step up his game if he wants to be a really good GM or just enjoy being a character in a game. And all he needs to be a really good dad (from my outside perspective) is teach his son some social graces like not throwing pillows at us while we are gaming (truth be told we found it hilarious at the time which reinforced it positively to him) and I think he'll become a fine adult.

The worst part is, I've been keeping my distance from him because I don't want to get dragged into family court where I may or may not have to testify against him or his ex. I've only seen Family courts make situations worse, and I'm scared shitless that a lawyer is going to lead me down a line of questioning where it paints him in the worst possible light and he loses his kid. I REALLY should be there as a shoulder for him to cry on or someone to just vent to, but here I am, posting about my trauma about watching another family's trauma because I haven't had anyone I can talk to about this for the last year or so.

My dad decided to try to DM for me and he was like "Okay son, you've got a bunch of orcs chasing after you and you see a minecart" so I hop in it and he starts playing indiana jones music and says "you jump in and the orcs hop in another one to start chasing you. take this." and he hands me an onion ring. "Now son, if you let that onion ring get destroyed, youre dead. Better dodge them orcs" and just as he say that his drunkass friends start cheering and coming in the house through open windows with dodgeballs. So I run and I get hit a few times and almost drop the onion ring, but I manage to make it out onto the front lawn and my 600 pound uncle joey is there, clotheslines me and then sits on my chest and takes my onion ring and eats it. Dad comes out with his friends and says "oooh, tough luck son looks like the ogre ate you"
