One anon was proposing we go forward with flushing out the Homeworld via native life. However, I'd like to see what we can do with the Gangers of the underhive. Since we seem to have established them closer to Houses/Guilds like Necromunda rather than simple gangs.

One of the most well fleshed out times in recent memory, barely a Millenium ago is when this house rose to power. Some of the marines of the chapter were there for its founding.

>Legendary - The House has attained truly great power, enough to rival the most powerful Houses of Necromunda. Power comes at a price, however, and the other great Houses may feel inclined to make alliances against the upstart in order to preserve their hegemony.

Absolute power and the name of this house are synonymous. What is in their territory is under their absolute control, and their house is more unified then it has ever been. The Arbites know them well, and their influence reaches all over the world Ventus.

In what region is the House's power most evident? (1d10)

Roman aesthetic pseudo-Blood Angel vampires who look like marble statues and eat daemon hearts to spiritually suicide-bomb daemon princes and greater daemons. They really goddamn hate daemons, adore the Emperor and are best buds with the priesthood.

They live on a giant Hive World which operates as an Armoury World specialising in missiles. The World also uses a great, great deal of those missiles itself. The planet doesn't have enuff dakka, but it's about halfway there. Consider that that actually means.
It's possible it was even a nice place to live before the decision to mass produce and test ship-destroying weaponry there. It's also possible it used to have more than 5 moons. What's definite is it's a shithole wasteland now.
>>
>>71354690
>Equipment - The warriors of this House carry the best gear, with one of them being a match for three other gang thugs.
Members of this house see that every one of their, many, ranks is outfitted with the best they can buy and produce. Which given the nature of Ventus is saying something. Thugs of this house are probably closer to Stormtrooper than an actual ganger given the state of their power and Ventus technology.

The Administratum rules the planet proper, we are not so concerned with ruling. Oh, there's a subtle hand with noble and ecclesiarchal politics, but the overwhelming majority of the world's day-to-day business is that of the Administratum.
And to be fair, when trying to manage a Hive world, the quill-pushers are a better choice than wasting the time of the Emperor's own Angels of Death.

Despite the rapid seasonal changes, it's a fair place to live in the Imperium. There is tiring work to be done, but work is better than idleness, and there are sturdy walls and warm beds within the hab-blocks. Outside the Hive is endless wasteland, but within one can find hymns and protection.
And if there are more inspections than other worlds, of reports and papers and permits.. and now and then the flashed silver of that Sigil... well, it is a small price for the comfort that none of that foul Heresy that afflicts other, less pious, worlds is found here.
Then there are the grand parades on one Saint's day or another, where white, red and gold giants march and wave to the crowd. Noble and proud, the elders looking like the grand statues within the Shrine sprang to life to defend the Imperium, but first wrapped robes or ceramite armour around themselves. An offering of divine Astartes blood at one ritual, a display of superhuman swordsmanship in another.
It's quite enough for you to forget that this month's rations were reduced 20% due to a 'below expected quota' from your hab-sector. Such is life in the Imperium of Man.

As much as, some of, the priesthood may ache about it. An entirely spartan life of piety and work is no way to live, at least not without a massive climb in the rate of suicides. So this house delivers entertainment to all! A performer on every street corner of the Hive, massive galas and balls for the guilds and their masters, theaters, vox recordings, festivities, strip shows, perhaps even private dances, and parades are their desire and delivery.

They're certainly a strange lot for entertainers and performers, they do their duties and they do them well. But the moment that's juggling man on the corner of your street is off the clock he retreats to the quiet safety of his house's territory.

Perhaps their homes are gently lit, soft music filling their halls as they practice their art, that street juggler retreating away to his advanced study to write a play or book for the people of the Hive.

>Brutality - As with many others, this House's leadership is taken from the biggest bullies, with the strength and wit to muscle their way to the top of the pile.
While the house itself is tightknit, friendly, quiet, and withdrawn. Make no mistake, they know there is a price to secure power. Competition in the house high where achievement denotes your place in the hierarchy. It's an ever-progressing battle among the young and old to see who can one-up each other in more outrageous performance, more captivating book, and more memorable play.

The accolades of the people determine where one lies in the house and it can switch at a moment's notice. A young writer can find himself among the lions from a lucky book, and one of those lions may find himself less powerful than a child for a disliked play.

They also fiercely protect their homes and what territory they care to take and keep.

Bumpan to again enquire what the Chapter's serfs think of the whole deal, if they're aware of it at all. Are there some serfs who are tasked with providing their own blood to sustain the Marines as necessary, so they don't have to go out hunting for it?

Also, would it be based or cringe to draw some inspiration from VtM? Because I quite like the idea of some or all of the serfs being Ghoul-analogues who are bound to the chapter by a blood ritual of their own.

My OC, just a suggesting/fluff/flavor.
Having marines subsist of a wide array of willing participants in 'Emperor Praising Ceremonies' that only really exist to sate their Red Thirst seems grimdark enough to exist.
The Chapter serfs perpare a chamber for the ritual (alt. name 'Thralls') by filling a basin with water and kneeling. They and astartes submit prayers and chants to the glory of the chapter and Emperor. The astartes pre-select one serf as the supplicant (honoring him). The astartes cuts him (wherever) and the serf pours pours his blood into the basin. The astartes then partake in drinking from the fountain, cleansing their failings, restoring their courage and preparing them for the next battle.

>The White Counts
It has long been the practice for members of the Chapter to accept ceremonial leadership over a portion of the planet. Those Marines who do are given the title of "White Count", and may theoretically rule anywhere from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions of citizens. In practice, however, they hold very little power. Governance itself is carried out by the usual assortment of hive administrators, and the complex oligarchy of Ecclisiarchal, Inquisitorial, and mercantile interests does not like its own rule infringed upon. However, in extreme cases, the White Counts have been known to exercise their authority to replace disloyal or incompetent administrators. Those Counts who do so usually take a leave of absence from their duties in the Chapter and descend to their planet to govern their holdings personally. A holding governed by one of the White Counts is sure to be safe and prosperous, but some whisper of dark creatures which lurk the alleys and corridors in these regions. Wiser heads dismiss these as pure fiction, though, for what Astartes would ever tolerate such a danger in his domain?

Nobody wants to get caught with their pants down when there are immortal vampiric angels of Wrath that look as if the statues in the temples came to life in charge. One little mistake is all it takes for them to decide not to tolerate your existence anymore.
Come to think of it, that's probably why the gangs around here seem to focus on entertainment, everyone needs something to occupy their time when they're not working, and citizens who actually like their conditions aren't likely to protest too much about a twelve hour shift seven days a Terran week where they construct a fuckload of explosives.

No, no. It is not his, this is not the armor of Fuhor. But its story and that of the one who once wore it share many similarities.

Alone, a brother once stood against the dark, last of his squad. But he would not fall in battle against those who claimed his kin. He would live, and fight till his last breath. Succumbing to his wounds later, but his blood forever staining the armor he once took against the great enemies of the chapter.

Above and beyond the Techmarines have gone. They've poured their blood, sweat, and tears into this armor and its intricate designs over the ages.

>Lead by Example: This Spirit has been shaped into a leader, and its armour is adorned with heraldry that inspires its comrades and strikes fear in the hearts of the enemy. Easily distinguished, this suit yearns to be in the middle of any battle, driving its Battle-brothers to further heroics.

(From the Deathwatch one the table is based on) All men need leaders, and all leaders need to be seen and heard to be effective. It is common for the leaders of the Adeptus Astartes to lead from the front, and such warriors have had the honour of bearing this armour into the battle over the centuries. Its vox amplifiers ring like booming thunder, and its brilliant heraldry seems to blaze on the battlefield. Truly a sight to behold, there have been statues erected on a hundred worlds of the brave souls who wore this relic into battle and saw the day through to victory.

Writing up some small tidbits on a particular hive so we can get some more stuff fleshed out. Feel free to expand on this, i'm just laying the groundwork so to speak.

>Hive Prosekan

Hive Prosekan is the major hive along the Abida Ridge on Vetus Sanguine's souther hemisphere. It serves as a major network for the Duster Caravans that travel along the roads of the wastes in their sturdy groundcars that go inbetween cities, outposts and other hives all across the Ridge.
This influx of traders and travellers overall has caused the hive to thrive of those passing though it, which has resulted in a stagnation for the hive's overall population growth compared to the other Hive Cities on the planet, but in exchange for vast economic growth instead.

Does this fit in with the theme of the planet and the chapter? I am just trying to contribute with anything.
>>
>>71356466
I feel like we should make the Duster Caravans hovercars unless they're poor civilians. (Remember we've seen Hive Cities with flying cars before in the books. Life is pretty okay in 40k if you don't live in a Hive City or active warzone.)

I also feel like we should have two to three hives that seems like a good number.

Let's go back to chapter relics for a moment.

That armor we made earlier needs a name. Maybe something like 'Armor of the Endurant'. Also, we still need to settle what we did with the Demon horn.
>>
>>71357306
What about "Redeemer's Shroud" for the Relic Armor's name?
As for the Demon Horn, from what I gathered in the last thread and what I could see in this one, we were in agreement for it being either a part of a weapon or used in the major function of one.

I feel like Endurant fits better due to the tough history of the armor.

But I'm also down for the Horn being wielded as a sword by the Chapter Master.

Also a shitty sketch of Malfarum's head pre-horn break. Ain't by any means a drawing, know its shit, just wanted to put the idea for general apperance idea I had when reading it.

What kind of weapon can be crafted from such broken horn? Maybe tip of a spear?

But they could also likely find a way to shape the horn. After all warp materials don't play by our rules.

Pretty great chapter I must say, hope there is more to be add!

Personally I would have named the House Chesire "The Menagerie", but it also has a ring to it (it's simply the "House" at the front that rolls a bit less nicely on the tongue).

I want to know, is there a chapter somewhere in 40K that has a pretty fluid battle strategy? Kinda like Anakin in Star Wars that had the idea to use tanks on asteroids to decimate a battleship, or when he used said tanks to invade the battleship. I like the idea of a group that can adapt to any situation, surpass the odds and be unpredictable... special flavor would be that any soldier is train to lead as a commander (in his own way) and if the leader were to fall another who take his place immediately without problems.

Theoretically speaking, that's what the Codex is for. It's a list of tactics and strategies designed to counter everything the Imperium faced during the Great Crusade. There are also counters to the strategies, counters to the counters, and so on.

Yeah, but the Codex do seem to be "restrictive" (in appearance at least), and unless you have a library of Codexes that you frequently adapt, the strategies would be limited or easily learned by enemies of the Imperium no?

Should there be a Codex Simulacrum where Space Marines would write down and experiment new strategies, ideas and gears? Somewhere where previous experiences could be noted and tested multiple times to see if it is effective?

>>
Competitive Small Units Tactics between the hive's finest gangs (subsidized by the various oligarchs & corporations) is a popular sport on the holovids of the teeming cities of Vetus Sanguine and her five moons. Kindergarten is every young Vetus Sanguinite (or just Sanguinite)'s first introduction to the basics of small unit infantry tactics like covering fire and bounding overwatch as members of discrete but cohesive fireteams. Every Sanguinite carries a sidearm in the form of some sort of handgun, with the venerable pattern 1911 being exceedingly popular. Units training alongside a Codex-compliant Chapter of Ultramarine descendants recruited from this very planet provides every unit the best tactics for their cost-effective municipal (but expensive privately-owned) armaments.

...and, hey, what if the reason it's so ho & huge is because Vetus Sanguine is a planetary cage around a tiny borderline brown/red dwarf? This would explain the five moons (there are probably dozens of other satellites less than a kilometer across), and this whole thing orbits a small sun close enough for hot weather and 115-day years.

Or just hollow wasteland? I'm cool with that, especially if it has giant, sprawling megacities radiating like stars from arcology towers bristling with weapons muzzles & spires, mighty cannon emplacements scattered across a parched & barren surface, a hollow planet with colossal caverns, some of them heavily conurbated with universal air conditioning and central air, patrolled by an entire society of armed bounty hunters, cops & soldiers.

Some of the endemic Argent Strix Space Marines serve as Police Commissioners & Chiefs of Special Precincts. These are their stories, and the stories of the Enforcers, Bounty Hunters, Militiamen & Gangers who work with them in the pursuit of justice. Because justice happens quickly, out on the streets. The Imperium doesn't have time to waste on courts here; the gun is the gavel, and (You) are the judge.
>>
>this
But, clearly, it's also *every* citizen on the planet, every last one of which has at least a rifle or handgun of some sort.
>>
>>71365976
..it would explain the name ("Old Blood") as a reference to the hellish red glow coming up from the cracks & gaps in the unimaginably titanic shell of rock & iron encaging the glowing ember of the dying starlet. Vetus Sanguine's bloody glow illuminates the planetward sides of its five moons -- especially he closest -- with a subtle glow the shade of blood. Or, maybe there's volcanic activity....

>The size of a world (Or in this case a moon )is defined by its equatorial circumference. The smallest planets may have a circumference of only 5,000 kilometres, and the truly massive planets may reach 500,000 kilometres. (To provide a sense of scale, Holy Terra herself has a circumference of 40,000 kilometres).
>Average: 10d10 (4+10+9+3+9+2+9+8+10+3= 67)
So if my math is correct (it's probably not) this moon is around 67,000 kilometers. But that sounds a little too chunky for a moon in my opinion so I will divide this number by 3 and round down to get the end result of 22,333 kilometers.
So it's a big boy moon, maybe not as big as the planet it's orbiting but it should play catch with any Ork Rok that comes it's way.

Deathwatch is still a great honour, and everyone enjoys ripping orks apart. But it's when the Ordo Malleus are seeking aid that the most heated competition to fill slots is found, as that's near-guarantees a fight against the neverborn.
Perhaps even leaving your name as a Dark Valedictor, even if that's something of a bittersweet honour.

A big player, and the Machine Cult is over most of the moon, but it's still more of a Munitorum resupply dock and mining colony than a mini Forge World. A curious blend of Imperial and Machine Cult followers, with the latter being the de facto rulers given the industrial nature of the Hive. Though they have to move diplomatically at times, the Imperial Cult still holds power and followers here, though not as involved in the politics..

You can get refuelled, patched up, rearmed here. All very necessary things for a ship, but if you want a proper repair job you'd best head over to the nearest Forge.

Axial Tilt: 16-30 Notable (6-15°), Seasonal Variation ± 10°C/50°F
Length of Day: 29 Hours
Gravity: Normal Gravity for the most part thankfully.

Atmosphere: It's Bearable but you shouldn't go for too long with a Void Mask outside the Hive.
Hydrosphere: Arid: This world is mostly dry, having large desert landmasses, infrequent rainfall, and a peppering of oases. There is also usually a substantial water table underground which can have wells dug into it. There will be some small seas and oceans.
Temperature: Chilly (-100°C to -41°C/-148°F to -42°F) Cold, but not uninhabitable. Sealed buildings are still a good idea, but smaller heating systems should work just fine. Going outside requires exceptionally warm clothing but this planet is still likely to be inhabited in numbers larger than a few outposts. If unprotected, you'll last a number of rounds equal to your toughness bonus, after which you gain +1 fatigue until unconscious. Death follows in one round.

Well, looks like Vetus waste are inhabited by some slimy dog-like parasite that acts as a Scavenger that likes to kill for fun and then spawn its young in the leftovers. While acting as an ambush predator that can burrow and camouflage with an armored body that's tough to hit.
