Because if you remove the i then her name is a perfect palindrome. You can then use the i other ways.

Tamat - i
i-Tamat
Taṁat (the i is on top of the m and that makes it a palindrome too, quite clever)
>>

Vecna, no question. His successes are on a scale that most villains can only dream about.

Vecna shit over all of the rules of two established settings just so that he could rewrite the rules of the multiverse and be the in-character reason for the changeover from second edition to 3.0/3.5. Thats right, Vecna the super wizard rigged the game so that caster edition would happen. Every single fucking caster vs martials bullshit thread is Vecna's fault. Every single bad design decision that started in DnD 3.0/3.5 and never died is Vecna's fault.

Vecna won, and it did irreparable damage to DnD as a franchise and tabletop RPGs as a whole for decades.
>>
>>66709472
Because the most popular tabletop RPG is and always has been D&D, and Tiamat is kind of the ultimate dragon without getting into niche weirdness like temporal dragons.

Vecna might be more popular with the neckbeard grognards, but Tiamat is much more accessible and understandable.

That what they changed was that Erastil supported traditional families, but not the nuclear family Americans think it is.
That means 2 primary parental figures, extended family support, as well as a strong community bond, and family was not limited to western Christian values.
The only reason this actually came up was due to spergs on their forums saying "WELL ACKSHUALLY" to the point that Paizo had to shut them down.

>>66717323

>>
>>66717944
The nitpicker in me wants to point out that while Tiamat has five heads, she has just one mind, at least canonically. She doesn't have multiple personalities the way Demogorgon does.

But that's just me nitpicking about canon, and the #1 rule for DMs is that it's your game and you can change anything you want.
>>
>>66717984
Because (every other god died) she was the new god of the setting, although she was one minded, in this case to some extent she needed to diversify her minds almost because she had to take on all the mantles of creation. Almost in some sense, like each becoming a new god of something, or like different faces of creation of the same god.

I mean it was still same old, single entity Tiamat, but it was like interacting with different parts of her one mind/one personality physically shunted into each head. Like that Pixar movie with the emotions as little beings, but if they got a head each instead of sharing one.

At least I think that's how the DM had it.

A quick Google search brings this us as Tiamat's human form.
>>
>>66718043
Fair enough. For my part I tend to use the number of heads Tiamat has focused on a single subject as indicative of either how seriously Tiamat is taking the subject, and/or how fucked the subject is. Possibly both.

Awhile back there was a troll Anon who asked why D&D adventurers don't just use Wish to wish away Tiamat. My response was something to the effect of...

>Because that vastly exceeds the limitations of the Wish spell...but if a player of mine actually did attempt that I think what I'd have happen is nothing seems to occur, then a few seconds later their character disappears from wherever they are and appears in Avernus directly before Tiamat, with all five heads glaring down at him and shouting in unison: "WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU GET THE BALLS?!"

For some reason I imagine Tiamat as swearing like a sailor. Like, completely devoid of poise or grace or pretense, if she's fucking pissed then YOU'RE GOING TO FUCKING KNOW IT. She is by no means stupid - being a goddess she's smarter, wiser, and more charismatic than almost any mortal - but Tiamat has exactly zero fucks to spare for humanoid monkeys and their delicate linguistic sensibilities. She's a fucking goddess, what the fuck are you going to do about it?

Was it also your duty to help her repopulate the universe? Lucky bastard.
>>
>>66718167
Tkhisis and Tiamat are the same being.
>>
>>66718332
Well less specifically repopulate and more create a new setting. They basically became the pantheon together of the new setting after the old one died (previous campaign exploded). But part of it involved banging when it came to creating life after creating a world suitable for it, since she couldn't create life from herself with sacrificing something which she wasn't interested in doing.

I mean really though it was like the Queen and King of hearts, she did what she wanted like her usual tyrannical self and he kind of just clung to her leg for recognition, and occasionally she might grab him when she needed him for something, and less occasionally in fact very rarely she might listen to him when he thought she'd gone too far with something.

>>66718290
I like the idea of multiple heads representing like, percent focus on something. All five heads focused, 100% her attention is on a task or target at hand.

I liked her Unified Setting fluff where she created the kobolds as a slave race in her war against Bahamut and then after they both got killed by fairies the kobolds just sort of drifted around being tribal and worshipping big things, since she made that a natural part of their behavior.

I would rather have a setting where each head got it's own completelly different personality but they all share in some way one single hive mind.

So even though each head would react differently to something and talk in a different tone they all share the same basic traits and goals never disagreeing or discussing. Also Tiamat could have 5 avatars at the same time each doing different jobs and/or adopting an different identities. Like Red being an empress ruling an empire, Black being a priest leader of a cult in a far away country and White being an adventurer/explorer searching for useful items or people that could help her.
>>
>>66717475
Which fucking book?
>>
>>66718780
Yeah that's a neat interpreation. The latter part is how it played out with godhood, each head was like a different god of something like a major concept, death/entropy, life/fertility, etc. though all technically the same single overgod but different aspects of it.
>>
>>66716071
Zariel is best waifu of the nine hells.
Plus she has no lore so can do whatever the fuck you want with her character & plot.
Just start with:
> was an angel not *too* long ago.
> just got out of hell prison, where she has had her power sucked out of her for the duration by some poser greater devil.
> she keeps him around anyway because he’s bully-able, good at his job, and the other neckbeard devilcels like him and aren’t scared of talking to him like they are of her.
>>
>>66718729
At the end of the day, Strahd is just a Dracula expy. He’s a pretty powerful vampire but he isn’t *that* much stronger than a normal D&D vampire, at least not in any depiction of him I know of. He’s very dangerous to a 10th level party, but a cakewalk for a 20th level party.

Whereas Vecna is a god and all the power that entails. Seriously, what can Strahd do that Vecna can’t?
>>
>>66716170
>takhsis
Seems to be Tiamat, but by a different name from the Dragonlance setting.
>>
>>66718729
>Wrong. Strahd wipes the floor with Vecna.

A vampire trapped in a demiplane wipes the floor with a greater god who broke out of said demiplane, then caused the rules that governed the multiverse to be rewritten.
Yeah, I'm not buying it.
>>
>>66718780
>Tiamat create an adventurer avatar and spend years saving people and defeating monsters(conveniently many of them minions of her rivals)
>turn famous and loved by everyone

>Your best friend, grilfriend or even wife could be her and you would never know

Takhisis. You couldn't find anything because nobody bothered to spell her name right. She's the main evil god in Dragonlance, and the local version of Tiamat.
>>
>>66717947
I had a character in one game that was a Paladin under Bahamut who ended up banging Tiamat to hard she gave him a relic to summon her for a booty call at any moment. I think he had a surprisingly well-adjusted kid with her.
>>
>>66719035
>He’s a pretty powerful vampire but he isn’t *that* much stronger than a normal D&D vampire
spare the Count some slack, for a 6-to-10 adventure, the module's extremely hard, not to mention he's so evil he literally summoned greater powers of evil that trapped him in his own demiplane.
>>66719078
Yes, that actually happened. Being fair, it wasn't Strahd at his best fighting Vecna at his best but an argument could be made Vecna dies more times than Strahd and one actively attempted to fuck over the planes and achieve godhood while the other one just wanted him waifu.

I gave him massive cool points already for the fact that despite he fact that he’s significantly weaker than Acererak, Vecna, Tiamat, or others, he’s still listed among D&D’s most iconic villains.

It’s sort of like how in Marvel, Red Skull is generally considered to be one of the most dangerous beings on the entire planet Earth, despite the fact that his power set amounts to “just a little beyond maximum human potential.” In a setting with folks like Doctor Doom and Magneto and Loki running around, people who can throw mountains or immolate entire nations with their personal power, Red Skull is still a major threat.

I don't particularly want to be /That Guy/, but I suppose I'll have to be for the purpose of this thread. Kreia is the all-time best villain. Kreia's motivations as I understand them:
>The Force seems to be controlling people and events not so much on a personal scale as a population scale
>Any time things get too bad, they drift back towards neutral because the Force wills it
>Any time things get too good, they drift back towards neutral because the Force wills it
>This produces a reality where existence is a pit of nihilism with no meaning or value, as anything you may accomplish will ultimately be reset to zero in time
>Kreia seeks to render all lifeforms deaf to the Force so that it cannot affect them, as anybody who is truly, perfectly oblivious to it cannot be influenced by it

Nah, if we're going D&D, my money's on Bane or Lolth. Bane is a badass and a pretty good masterming and Lolth is just so instantly hateable. At least her classic take on the character is.

Yeah, Tiamat is a pretty classic metal band. What's your favourite album? Mune is "Clouds", I guess.
>>

DM wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel so they were fun and unique but pretty standard personality types.

Red was the chaotic impulsive and willful one, blue was the calm and collected wise one, green was the least evil and vibrant optimist one, white was the intelligent scheming pessimist one, black was the stoic guiding and realist one. Tiamat was of course one being but each head became distinct as a goddess of different things which kind of contributed to each head having a dinstinct "identity" due to the differences in godly domains.

Tiamat proper and my guy formed the duo pantheon of the new setting, but also the relationship each individual head had with my guy was also a different aspect to the pantheon in regards to the domains/"personality" each head had in regards to my guy's domain/personality.

Also something I thought was quite neat and creative was different ways that the DM came to create aspects of the setting by attributing actual things in the rules to the duo pantheon of Tiamat/my guy. For example one way was, each of the five heads also represented (as like a "concept" to the setting) one of the primary stats of the usual STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA along with my guy representing one to round out all six stats. Just lots of neat little things the DM was able to do with the setting when *only* having (at the same time) both two gods, and six.
>>
>>66739358
>green was the least evil and vibrant optimist one

ex fuckin cuse me?
>>
>>66739488
That head became the nature/life/fertility goddess of the setting so it came with the territory.

Maybe not as much least evil but least detrimental/destructive to the setting. Either way, green was the second easiest head to get along with, in as far as getting along was possible.
>>
>>66739537
Green dragons are the dick rogues of dragons, the love dealing in secrets and destroying cities from within through court intrigue

Which is literally what the white dragon was given for some reason.

>white was the intelligent

this actual blow my mind even further, the fuck.

Except no she didn’t. She was wrong, Anon. Her entire worldview about how the Force functions is objectively wrong based on literally everything else ever published about it. And to some extent she knew that, but either ignored or refused to believe it.

Kreia lies. That is the #1 thing you have to remember about that game. She lies to everyone, even herself. She’s just also the main source of exposition in the game, so it’s easy to get suckered in to her worldview. But she lies.

>>
>>66741520
Tiamat and other very powerful beings have difficulty leaving their home planes. It's not as simple as opening a Gate and summoning them, they're too powerful and the Material Plane just sort of rejects or opposes their presence. It takes MAJOR magic to bring them bodily to the Prime.

As such, Tiamat probably works best as a man-behind-the-man sort of villain, with the end goal being preventing her from ever leaving Avernus. Her presence should be felt but never really seen, and she should be manipulating events to try and engineer her release from Avernus onto the Prime.

Could go the Ghidorah KotM approach. Each head is Ghidorah, but when not facing something his size Lefty might begin poking around or investigating the current humans, or finding out what their ashes taste like, while Righty just keeps looking for things to kill, with Middle basically pulling them in (physically at times) to focus on certain things. Could be seen as the different emotions of a moment finding ways to play out, or two sides of the same brain straying. Different scene involving a challenge from Godzilla has two heads showing rage and bloodlust, with Lefty showing either some fear or confusion.
>>
>>66747047
I think they mean that Tiamat cult plan to take over the world is simply summon Tiamat herself.

Once she is summoned all the world armies will be either crushed by her and the cult soldiers combined forces or will surrender. Then Tiamat will put them to rule the world in her name.

Because power is hot.

It doesn't matter if you're physically repulsed by the being holding the power, there's something viscerally attractive about a creature that acts and moves with power. It's built into the primal part of the human brain, the lizard living in you that goes unga bunga when it looks at a being that could crush you with a thought and completely owns that power, makes it seem only natural. Something that your mind just can't picture as weak without it seeming completely out of place.

Power is hot.

I like Tiamat but I find her two sisters more interesting. Her mother, Asgorath is cool too but the idea behind Gruaghlothor and Sardior, or the lore from the old ass Dragon Magazines about how Tiamat as a hatching, slew one of her multi-headed sisters (who then became the first Dracolich and mated to Falazure in undeath) and injured another (who was the origin of Orange, Purple, and Yellow dragons) was always cooler to me than Tiamat proper. Fucking Purples in general are cool, a breath weapon of pure Slash damage is both bullshit and neat at the same time.

I liked how the DM handled it yeah. Only two beings left alive so default become the new gods. But I felt it was somewhat appropriate for Tiamat the entity to be like "God? I am not one god, I am all Gods!" and greedily become the closest thing to a monotheistic deity.
>>
>>66755343

Because 80s had a superior culture
>>
>>66756483
Because the campaign suddenly died, the group mostly just stopped showing up, she wrote off the setting in what was mostly just a random "THE END!" scenario and off the top of her head went with a gamma ray burst (physical, divine, and planar damage/destruction) that obliterated the world. Gods too because those not also killed outright by the disaster, faded to nothing without anything left alive or dead to have faith in them. Apparently she liked the finality of a fantasy setting coming to end just by some natural impartial occurance of the universe. But I stuck around and wanted to keep playing so she scrambled for a way to do something after the fact. She was going to try to come up with some way for my guy to survive so said to pick a god and we'd figure out how to continue from there. My character wasn't religious really so I just went with Tiamat because he had an idol of her in his possession (as treasure loot rather than for faith reasons) and the DM after some suprise and consideration got an evil smile.

After that it basically went Age of Sigmar a little where Tiamat hurtled through space almost dead and clinging onto my guy as the sheer-chance sole survivor of the disaster, keeping her "alive" simply by recognition. When eventually she came to rest and regained a sliver of cognition, that's when the chain of events began and they started getting to know one another and evaluate their situation, eventually coming to decide on creating a setting anew.

Overall the cause of this was admittedly pretty contrived, but it happened as a result of sudden campaign death anyway so it wasn't planned beforehand. It became more serious the more the DM realized some fun could be had with this continuation and the change in style of game. Interestingly enough when there was a next campaign with a group, it took place in the new setting.

If I remember right she is the literal primordial goddess from sumerian myth who decided to go to fantasyland for one reason or another. With that in mind she can probably shapeshift at will both due to being a god, as well as a primordial entity older than the universe itself. Her true form is probably closer to that of Gaia from greek myth, as they are both primordial mother goddesses who went on to birth the rest of their pantheon.

In fairness, having a high level warrior's abilities plus being a level 18 necromancer on top of being a vampire was WAY more impressive back in the days of AD&D.

Well, at least one version of her does fuck dragonborn champions who impress her enough, so I'd say her banging humanoids who do the same is on the table.

It kind of depends on if you're talking about AD&D Great Wheel Tiamat, who literally does not give a shit about anything except Chromatic Dragons, or World Axis Tiamat, who is more generally the Goddess of Greed and Wrath and Vengeance and thusly gives way more of a shit about stuff other than dragons.

I believe with tiamat it's more broodmother amazon.

Because most of the draconic pantheon are literally boring as shit "God of X, but for dragons!" gods, or otherwise have such specifically draconic niches that they don't matter to anyone other than dragons. Or they're just boring.

Y'know, the same reason nobody gives a shit about most of the various demihuman gods, like how dwarves have both Clangeddin Silverbeard and Haela Brightaxe.

It doesn't help at all that all the books that aren't 4e say that dragons are so arrogant that they don't really "do" religion, which limits the entire point of dragon deities.

Though >>66762492 makes a great point too.

Which is better?

Having a magical waifu who keeps a harem of pregnant girls she fills with her yuri-spawn, whilst deigning only to birth for you?

Or having a magical waifu who keeps a harem of girls she transfers the fruits of your lovemaking to, so they are kept perpetually pregnant with yours and her children, because she is so much above them?

Baba Yaga or Cthulhu

Far better than Tiamat or Vecna

Literally a pair of "you can't fight them, they win, game over" GM wankfodder NPCs. You might as well say Stone from Deadlands or Caine from Vampire the Masquerade are good villains by that measure.

Here's a hint: they're fucking not.

They’re both top tier options
But the second is the better of the two.

Pic related is the best /tg/ villain. He just wants to be left alone in his neet cave and doesn't care if his sheer existence damns the rest of the multiverse.

I prefer Takhisis.

I would feel so self-conscious if I was the black head. I'd be so worried I'd bump into the other heads with my horns.

The color theory autist in me wants the green head in the middle, with a green body, so that it goes black, blue, green, red, white.

...Now I kind of want to write a smutfic along the lines of one of those options. Any anons got requests?

Or rejections to the pairing being Male (Trap) on Female Alpha with harem of pregnant Beta Females?

I don't have a hard objection, but wouldn't Tiamat prefer a hypermasculine partner as being better breeding stock? Power is everything.
Though, I suppose an exception could be made if the trap were of an exceedingly powerful magical bloodline.
