/tg/ - Traditional Games

What are some cool games & homebrew that /tg/ regulars have come up with? Any that you have actually played?

Anything that you've made or been working on?
>>
I made this
I'm gonna be playtesting it soon and I got to fix a bunch of stuff while prepping so that's nice
>>
>>63312103
this is very nice so far anon, I like it, will very likely use it to run my next game when the current one wraps up

Glad you like it, anon
Shame there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity regarding new games and homebrew on the board as of late
>>

What kind of homebrew? Setting or gameplay?

If you’re looking for setting, suptg has multiple good threads under the “worldbuilding” tag for worlds and creatures.
If you mean gameplay, /tg/ is not the place to be because NOBODY can agree on one style or another.
>>
>>63315222
I mean world wise there is several settings that really stand out. Like the old Server crash setting and Lenore bit for games only ones i know of are Adeptus Evangelion
>>
>>63315785
There are a lot of good homebrew worlds and settings.
The Endless Wilds: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/The_Endless_Wilds
Shattered Sun: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Shattered_Sun

Even small scale campaign like Watchtower: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/49546675/
Or Night Shift: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Night_Shift

Though my favorite is what tg does with races.
Pangoll the pangolin people: http://img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1370/52/1370527191258.pdf
Kalang the Bat people: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=kalang
Pushmi-Pullyu:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=pushmi-pullyu

Heck, there was even a time elemental dragons were taken to the extreme with the Periodic Tabe of Dragons: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Periodic_Table_of_Dragons

There is so much weird and wonderful from this board. I love it!

>Anything that you've made or been working on?
I have written an idea for a setting, and would like /tg/ input:

Welcome to the brazilian neofeudalism. Welcome to Hy-Brasil, where proprierty is the most sacred human right, no matter how many lives it costs. Democracy went down with the petty apocalypses of the 21st century. In the 22 century, a mixture of plutocracy and vassalage is the prevailing way of governing. The new nobility are the masters of the Islands: self-sufficient, nuclear-hardened fortress-skycrapers in which everything is under genetic lock of its Lord, and everything, from foodstuffs and security to housing and work, must be earned by its citizens. These fusions of private communities and city-states answer in turn to corporations. Each corporation has its own archipelago of Islands, to which it sells the final products of the tolls of the citizens: modular apartments, police, genetic apps, phone implants, nanovaccines, net acess, artificial organs and much more.
>>
>>63316497
Roughly 95% of the 300 million people living in what once was Brazil live inside Islands. The rest occupies the sprawling mess of slums, feral cities and even the countryside. These downtrodden areas form their own administration, militias and economies which mostly consists of how to salvage and recondition the garbage of the Islands. Such environments are the breeding ground for a new kind of artist: the selftubers, individuals whose goal is to show themselves in personal shows and which seek to accumulate enough viewers to acquire dcs (digital coins) and benefits like patronage of a Lord. Anything goes: music, pornography, action, drama, romance and most often, a mixture where anything goes as long as it entertains. It isn't easy. One must have and acquire many resources, spend all its time and money to become celebrities which even buy dangerous no-sleep gene apps and perform 24 hours a day inside augmented reality arenas where nothing is real except the possibility of death. To make things easier, some selftubers organize themselves into small groups in which everyone contributes content through their personal specializations. These are the new breed of adventurers.
>>
>>63316509
The 21st century was marked as the "Apocalyptic Century", as the world passed through global environmental turnoil, new epidemics, massive migrations and wolrdwide conflict due to lack of certain natural resources and dangerous new technologies. The most devastating episodes were the First Digital Global War, the Second Cold War, the Cancerogenous Flu, the Hydraulic Wars, the Dubai Sandstorm, the Drone Wars and the Chinese Collapse. The combined loss of life was great enough that the global population actually remained around 7 billion throughout the century.

The 22st Century also promises to be as troubled. The first fully sapient artificial intelligences already control some megacorporations. The oficial extraterrestrial censuses show there are about one million people living in the Solar System. Emergent genetic and cybernetical technologies promise to cause further divide between the wealthy and the poor, now termed "transhumans" and "trashumans". The Third Cold War is in full swing, between the Sino-African Commonwealth and the Euroasiatic Corporative Union. Despite international efforts, the environmental issues brought forth by the limited nuclear exchange of the Chinese Collapse remain as serious as ever.

I was thinking Gameplay, but original settings are also great to see
>>
>>63317367
I can’t really say much about fully realized original settings, but I have read several threads discussing underutilized settings.
For example:
A skyworld: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24518330/
Giant spiders are an important part of ecological succession, islands rise and fall around a mysterious core, there are sky coral reefs, and the light gets dimmer and the mist thicker the farther down you go.

An island chain: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/29369446/
Orcs are coastal divers, elves work the trees and fruit, halflings are great sailors, croc lizardfolk are traders, and dwarves live on volcanoes.

Very high fantasy: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/32236060/
The world is a moon over an ocean planet that is home to god dragons who made everything, conflict with the beings who live in the ocean, and magic is based on water and salt.

And low fantasy: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=cyblum%20dell
The great trade City Dener lies in Cyblum Dell and is the glory of the empire. Magic is nigh nonexistent, and political maneuvers are more likely to destroy lives than monsters.
>>
>>63311777
You know, hopelessly facing forces beyond the cosmos with your sanity being drained by the smallest things can get a bit predictable and boring.
If you like the idea of living with the weirdest things like you’re part of the Adams Family, or actually dealing with it confidently like you’re the ghostbusters, there are a couple of settings you could check out:

The strange apartment of Urban Unease: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=urban%20unease
The apartment building you moved to has paranormal activity oozing out the seams. But hey, it ain’t really harmful, so you get used to it. Heck, you could even really live there.

Or the town of Desolation Point in Weird West: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/57591980/#p57613269
Explore the town that’s theArkham of the west! Meet the residents and retrieve that jackalope.
Explore the forests of Mt. Deception, which seems bigger when you’re in them. See why the mines there all closed down! Prove that you can change the fate of this land.

I'm looking to run a 5e game based around the players being part of settlers on a new continent. I want to have lots of options for them to manage resources and build buildings and such. Does anyone have any good homebrews for that sort of thing?
If not I'll probably just come up with some sort of generic construction rules with a list of basic structures and what they require to be built.

I just spent the day working on a Lasers and Feelings hack by mashing other hacks together. I'm trying to incite my sister in law to play with us and she likes horror so this is what we got.

I'd love some constructive feedback please. I intended it to be a kind of noir noble-dark setting with a dash of Hellboy and KSBD for spice. Tell me if that shines through or if it worked out.

besides 1d4chan, is there some sort of up to date archive of local homebrew you can peruse?

I would upload the pdf’s, but the files are fefusing to open.

Vikingr: a homebrew RPG based upon the world found in the comic “Stand Still Stay Silent”. It’s been over a century since mysterious rash has caused the world to collapse. Those effected either die, or transform into something horrible. The only known human settlements are those in Scandinavia. However, demand has risen for old world information and books. This has given rise to people setting out into the silent world to retrieve these works before they’re lost forever. This task has been given the old name of “going Viking” and those who go Viking, are “Vikingr”.

Even in this world of science and progress, working in space is hard. You are stuck for months or end on a ship with the same group of people. Hurtling through the miles of empty void, where one thing going wrong could mean instant death for everybody on the ship. You feel like eyes are coming from the windows, the mental side-effects of the hyperdrive are no help, and those immune “gypsies” are a truely weird group. So hold tight to your lucky rock, sing some filk to the saints, and may your superstitions bring you home safe and sane.

I made this wuxia/xianxia setting for D&D 5e.
>>
>>63322273
I really like this. I'm going to crib a bunch of this for my mystic's background., particularity the gods and locations. Where would the mystic and artificer classes fit into this?
>>
>>63322373
Hey, thanks! I'm glad you like the setting. I wasn't aware of the Unearthed Arcana classes before this, but off the top of my head:

Mystics could be a sect of psionic monks. Their psi points would essentially be ki, channeled through the mind instead of the body.

Artificers could be treated as wizards that have also studied engineering.
>>
>>63321732
>What did you use for layout / pdf making?
It's all done in google docs
I may switch to InDesign in the future but so far I haven't had a reason to

>Also how much did art cost you?
there's a disclaimer in one of the sections that tells you that the art is placeholder borrowed from /tg/ art threads, and the last page has all the art credits
i'm an artist so I'll make my own art later down the line, or commission more professional artists in the future if I get any kind of funding, but as of right now they're just placeholders

>I'm launching some stuff on Drivethrurpg in the next few weeks, mostly just doing editing atm.
oh really? what are you launching, anon?

>>63321969
thanks anon, I chose the palette for it to be easy on the eyes on a screen (so you can read it on a phone or tablet at the table) and i'm quite pleased with the colors right now
shame that it's not print friendly at all, I have to make a little black and white version when I want to print it out to test
>>
>>63322425
I'm getting kind of like a "jade empire" feeling from the setting. And frankly im completely into that. Have you thought about hacking the alignment system? I think JE's philosophy of the way of the open palm vs the way of the closed fist would really mesh well instead of Law/Chaos axis. I dont know what you'd do for evil/good. Maybe Humane vs. Determined?

Check these out if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://jadeempire.wikia.com/wiki/Way_of_the_Closed_Fist

Thread seems to be dying so here's another thing I made: a rules-lite Pokemon game.
>>
Ran a campaign of this a few months ago
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Dungeons:_the_Dragoning_40,000_7th_Edition
it is really fun but has a few flaws so I have been devoting a lot of effort recently into making a, I don't know what to call it, "revised" edition of it, I had no involvement in its original creation thou so I haven't talked much of it. It is more or less done just needs art at this point.
>>
>>63322273
Ah! Someone else who likes a little weeb in their fantasy! I made this for a campaign setting I've run off and on for a couple years now. This is the 5e conversion for it. Still need to add pictures. If any inspire you to post art, I'd appreciate it.
>>

I just want my dnd rules about cultivating in a xianxia setting. Or crafting flying swords, refine potions and pills.. all the wuxia/xianxia stuff
>>
I'm developing a d6 combat system with no to-hit rolls, i hope to post something on this next days here.

I want to make a campaign which focus heavily on combat, but at the same time keeping the tone cute and low-stakes.
How would you go on making a campaign where the PCs are a mercenary crew, but is set in Moominvalley or something like that?
>>
>>63316315
Time to sell these settings.

Magic has been overused. For centuries it was cast with wonton abandon, the excess mana building and building within the woods. One day, it became too much, and The Great Bloom occurred. Now, the world is completely covered by enchanted forests. Any land that trees can’t grow has its own enchantment. The only places spared were the towns with the new Mana Siphons. Today, these capitals and their settlements are the bedrock forces in the ever changing world. Now hunters explore the wilds, face down the cores, and etch out an existence in this new world.

The Endless Wilds: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/The_Endless_Wilds
>>
>>63319862
Said anon here with a few bug fixes and rules clarifications. I'll do Siege Weaponry in the next update.
>>
Updated with a way of auto generating things to "prepare" with. Some of the combos can get pretty funny. I think this shifts the game into a more "Gothic" direction where figuring out the supernatural mystery and then finding a way to stop it comes into the forefront. Any critic is welcome.
>>
>>63311777
Are you familiar with Engine Heart
>>
>>63329101
How does “Mistress Darcy” relate to the first paragraph? It really sticks out. That seems like a plothook instead of an introduction.
Also, the mystery section is very bare bones and “mad libs”. A bit too much, in fact. The bones have been stripped of marrow.
This is reliant on the rolls of the dice for just about everything. That may be a little excessive.

>Homebrews
>not just going to 1d4chan

to be fair, homebrews are either sacred babies that grow up to be indie games or they are specialized RPG's for that one mood you and the group were into.

i played two different Matrix Homebrews back in 2001-2004, and my bud once cooked up his own setting: it was about trying to reclaim kingdoms from horrors and i played a horned wolf-man with a penchant for leadership. good times, utterly unique rules. this guy also once made a fantasy setting (europe) using L5R rules. i have been pitched a few homebrews several times, but always had work crop up.

i have wanted to play Time Wizards and Engine Heart...1d4chan has a few good ones

>nice thread, btw

Haven’t played it, but found it on 1d4chan and threads for it from 2009. Seems to be a robot game.
Is it any fun?
>>
>>63329309
It should be a plot hook shouldnt it? the OG lasers and feelings has "Captain Darcy" in a medical pod. I think they did that for drama? And to start off the initial drama of having no clear leader. Do you think that should be removed? What would we gain and loose if that was taken out? Or should that be moved down the line to the "setting the scene" section?

The "mystery section" is just a reskin of the one shot creator for OG lasers and feelings. The only thing I added to give it a bit more depth was separating a main villain from the group helping them. But, I can add a "roll or choose" instruction for that section.

Well, the 1d4chan opening is already perfect, so...
Look, the sun was a giant Crystal egg for a Great Phoenix, it hatched, and now the world is lit only by the remaining shards that orbiting and land upon the planet. Astronomers track and study these shards, cities form where they are the most constant, and a cult has corrupted a shard somewhere in the darkness. It is very high fantasy, and well worth checking out.
And seriously, the intro is so much better than what I could write.

There are times when the traveling adventure lifestyle can get tiring. Sometimes, you just want to stay put and keep watch over a stretch of land. Thankfully, there are plenary of outpost that the crown wishes to get occupied and make sure the area stays safe. Of course, in this world of beasts and magic, one can encounter the strangest phenomena, friendly if unusual travelers, and even the occasional bandit army. You can handle it, of course. You wouldn’t have signed up if you couldn’t.
