It's been a long time since I posted on 4chan before but after all these years I wanted to share something that's been a passion of mine.

If this does sound familiar it's because the whole "bug world" thing has been done quite a lot. A recent example was a game called hollow knight (which I never played and wasn't into the art direction). I can give you that I loved the setting.

The basic premise for this one is bugs we see in our day to day lives are actually sapient and thinking beings that live in hidden world under human eyes. Most humans don't seem to notice as a veil creates an illusion in which they're mere bugs. The binding force of this world is an energy known as Ego which was responsible for uplifting the first arthropods and creating a bridge between the Great Yonder (the spirit world).

There is no gods in the traditional sense and the "gods" in question where normal Bugfolk who ascended into godhood by being one with Ego. These gods called Anazu and represent various aspects of the world. The ruling class among them rule over the Great Yonder. Each of them represent the elements of flame, sea, grass, sky, and soul with the 6th , shade, was banished for associating himself the Anazu of the earth and death, Cekarok.

another concept I've worked on is the inner workings of the magic system. Shamans are the Ookraia equivalent to wizards. They undergo a rite of passage that involves them bonding with a spirit within the great yonder. In exchange for magic, the shaman must give the spirit ego in order to exist in the material plane.

Cekerok is at best a extremely envious god that wants the people of Ookraia bask in her light rather than the tree (which is something should have mention in the other post and perhaps replaced earth with decay instead).

in which direction does it skew in degrees of bugpeople? more human with insect traits? or Insects with human traits? Do I more than one set of arms? and if I play a praying mantis will I have hands or the default set up?

they're seen mainly as themselves as animals are theroies to not be as aware as humans. of course that theory was considered silly by many scholars who just think the veil trusted non human animals enough to keep Ookraia secret. doesn't stop larger animals from eating them though.

Shamans are mainly used as tribe healers, warriors, as well as advisors among Ookraian royalty. Some may just be researchers studying the Yonder and it's various through hands on experience. Regardless, all shamans have the ability to channel spirtual energy and ego to cast magic. In order to do that, they must first bind themselves with a spirit. Once bonded, they bind for life unless the spirit lived in it's own accord.
