It just occurred to me that we don't have a creation table for mega-corporations. Should we make one?
>>
>>61752507
Yes. Let's do this OP!
>>
>>61752507
I'm in. I think the first table should be to determine what exactly we do as a megacorp. Like, do we produce weapons or do we make household cleaning supplies?
>>
You don't need tables if you don't even have a game to use them in.
>>
>>61752823

Ok, stuff that comes out of the top of my head:
>what field(s) the megacorp is involved in.
>Personality and origin of the CEO
>Advantages of the megacorp (loyal workforce, network of spies, good reputation on outside)
>Megacorp size
>Current rivals and enemies
>>
>>61752889
As a megacorp, probably both.

You should roll for:
>what you started as
>1d10 other interests
>roll 1d100 that many times for other industries you're involved in
>>
>>61752920
Age of the corp. And 'fixers' they use if this is a cyberpunk sorta game.

Customer base is important too. Some will cater mainly to high end clientele, others will be completely mass market.
>>
>>61752909
>Shadowrun, Cyberpunk 2020
Heck, you can probably have them in pre-renaissance settings, just make them a large guild or trading union.
>>
>>61752946
>>61752931
>>61752889

All good ideas. Lets see what we can come up with.

Also, we should stick to a contemporary/future setting, just to keep things easy to think about.
>>
>>61752950
Is OP running a Shadowrun or 2020 game right now? Are you? No, you're just shitting up the board with another low effort, low usability, randomly generated shitpile.
>>
>>61752950
>>61753033
I'd make all rolls be a 1d100 so when you can just roll a bunch of dice at once and have the result instead having to roll 1by1.

Also might be easier if we test the generator later in the thread.
>>
>>61753126

Ok, for business, we have
public service
food
energy
manufacturing
weapons
pharmaceuticals
finance
security (can probably combine with weapons)
software/online services
entertainment

magic, if you prefer having a magical element.
>>
>>61753227

can add
utilities (everyday commodities)
retail
commodities

I personally don't think we should have as one of the categories.

Also weapons and securities would be different. Weapons would just be manufacturing weapons and selling them. Security is offering someone protection.
>>
>>61753227
I'd add Intertellar travel as a 100.
Also:
> biotechnology
> mercenary company
> architecture company
>>
We're still ding this guys. Or thread just meant for death?
>>
Goodmight boop

pls. don't die we need this ;.;
>>
Now that's interesting
>>
>>61754909
The harsh reality of homebrewing on /tg/ is that sometimes you have to do the heavy lifting yourself.
>>
>>61753440
>>61753281
>>61753227

So for megacorp business we have:
food
energy
special materials (manufacturing is too broad, plus it overlaps with the other businesses)
weapons manufacturing
medical services
finance
security services
software/online service
entertainment
utilities (everyday needs)
retail
commodities (trendy items)
biotechnology
construction
interstellar
>>
>>61752507

next up is origin: how did the megacorp come about?

My ideas:
family business grown big
merger between many smaller companies
invented a new, groundbreaking (or got the patent to one)
filling in a power vacuum by another megacorp
collaboration between several entrepreneurs

feel free to add to the list or change it
>>
>>61757113
We should definitely throw in a couple hybrid options. I'm thinking.
>Hybrid (roll again twice)
>Zaibatsu/Conglomerate (Roll again three times. Choose one as the primary company, and the other two as subsidiaries.)
>>
Fwiw, there's this floating around out there, think it's Shadowrun specific
>>
>>61757232

Definitely a good idea. Could you give a couple more hybrid options?
>>
>>61757304

Just looking off this, we can use the age, size, quality, and current financial state parts.
>>
>>61753068
Based.
>>
>>61757388

Next up we should describe the CEO of the megacorp. What are the possible personalities and attributes he/she could have?
>>
>>61757324
Sure! How do these sound?
>Trust Fund (Roll twice. Choose one as a larger company that owns or is otherwise a branch off from the smaller.)
>Acquisition (Roll twice. Your company is a combination of the two, but is expected to perform as one of your choice. For example a militech company and a pharmaceutical company merging, but remaining a militech company)
>Subsidiary (Roll twice, or roll once and choose a second already created megacorp. Your megacorporation is a smaller company that has been folded into an existing megacorporation and is now making a name for themselves as an emerging factor)
>Botched Acquisition (Roll twice. Your company is a combination of two companies, but now both are trying to supplant the other as the dominant facet of the company.)
>Diversified Portfolio (Roll six times. Your company has interests in all of these things)
>Ungodly Chimera (Roll ten times. Somehow it functions.)

Its the year 2050
>Amazon, the corporate giant of america has supplanted the current government
>We are forced to wear black and orange jump suits with light blue amazon taylor originals
>Everyday we live in small 9x6x7 sized rooms with only bed, sink, and toilet
>Our food is given to us in pill form with the Amazon Logo on it
>Our owner Jeff Bezos has turned 86 today and we are to participate in prime day to purchase our new Kindle Brain Chip with Prime movies
>The enemy Walmart is currently laying siege to us with recycled trash turned into projectiles to fit into their catapults made of polypropylene
>>
>>61758045

Ok, these are great. We can roll twice for each CEO to figure out there personality.

I think we should also add a table for the number of executives, in the case leadership is shared among several people.
>>

>>61758721

>Yeah, Mike, thanks for giving a monologue to some Neanderthal from 2018. Now help me break into this interface, dammit!
>>
>>61758835

Alright, how about a personal angle. Assume your character is working for the megacorp. Why?
Better pay than others
Boss treated you well
Nepotism
Forced into doing so
Shared grudge with a rival
Have equipment you want/need
Pay back a favor
Offer extra benefits
Chance of more power/fame
>>
>>61758835
Council of 1
Council of 2
....Council of X
Board of directors
It would be worth rolling for but with the smaller numbers at a higher weight
>>
>>61758835
You should probably divide it into 2 table then because some of those are contradicting. So a leadership table and personality table.
>>
>>61758964

Now assume you are opposing the megacorp. Why?
Enemy/rival employed by it
Hired/hiring people to kill you
Despise its ideology
Wronged you in the past
Harmed your family or community in the past
Is harming your community or family
Holding close friend/family member hostage
Have incriminating evidence against higher ups
Corp is extremely corrupt
Was fired from it
Collaborating with your other enemies
>>
>>61759035

Eh, I don't know. Having two contradicting traits could mean the CEO is a bit crazy and arbitrary as a leader, or the CEO likes to screw with people and break his own rules.

>>61758988
Good idea. Was thinking of the same thing.

>>61759037
>>61758964
Maybe you can roll d3 to see if you're against it, working for it, or neutral.
>>
>>61752889
>Like, do we produce weapons or do we make household cleaning supplies?
implying megacorps dont do both
>>
>>61759089
In some of those cases, the only difference is concentration
>>
>>61752507

To recap what we have so far(also I'll add some suggestions):
concentration of business: add None to the list
what the megacorp formed from/how it was created: probably divide into two, one where it grew by itself, and another where it came from a merger
Number of leaders: second >>61758988 's suggestion
Personality of the leader
Why you work for it/oppose it: should roll for your stance first
age, size, quality, and current financial state parts

first two tables:

What structure does the megacorp take? (rolls specify how many concentrations to roll for) (roll d7)
1) Single company (Roll once. The company grew without mergers, or it got rid of brands after taking them over).
2) Trust Fund (Roll twice. Choose one as a larger company that owns or is otherwise a branch off from the smaller.)

How about base of operations? Both country/continent and what type of building.
>>
>>61771842
For country, it would have to be China, USA, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Germany, UK, or France based on where most major modern corporations are based. Would love for an option to be something like Principality of Sealand, some itty bitty place made solely to dodge laws and taxes. Building is pretty much required to be some form of a campus or mega structure that is just the company.

3) Stable, at least a decade
4) Old, several decades or more

Base of operations (roll d8 once for every concentration)
1) China
2) USA
3) Japan
4) Western Europe
5) Eastern Europe
6) Middle East
7) South and Central America
8) Elsewhere
>>
>>61773236

Quality (roll d4)
1) Budget, for lowest common denominator. cheap mass production
2) Midscale, for white-collar drones. still leans more to quantity over quality
3) Upscale, good, high quality, or good and overpriced. boutique stores here
4) Luxury, for the elite. best quality, rarest goods.

Current Financial State (roll d6)
1) Dire: Complete and total failure looms over the fading horizon. The company has been in the red for a long time, or has suddenly been hit was a catastrophic failure.
2) Bad: hings aren’t good, and the company’s seen better days. Either they’ve been hurt bad, investments haven’t panned out, or business is running dry.
3) Struggling: Things could be better. Either things aren’t working out as planned, competition is tough, or they simply aren’t getting enough business.
4) Fair: The company is doing fine. The numbers are adding up, business is healthy, and despite setbacks, things are probably going to keep being fine.
5) Good: Profits are up, investments are panning out, and things are looking good. The mood around the office is optimistic, with ideas of not just surviving, but expanding and innovating.
6) Things couldn’t be better. Profit expectations are exceeding even the liberal predictions. Maybe a new product turned out to be a huge success, a major contract was awarded, or a steady stream of good business decisions are starting to see fruit.
>>
>>61773254

Who leads the megacorp? (roll d8)
1-4) single CEO
5) duumvirate, 2 CEOs
6) triumvirate, 3 CEOs
7) quadumvirate, 4 CEOs
8) board of directors

current CEO's personality (roll 2d10 for each CEO in corp. Don't roll if it's board of directors)
1) Megalomaniac
2) Vanity
3) Greed
4) Intellect
5) Miser
6) Shadow ruler
7) Micromanager
8) Hands-off
9) Hands-on
10) Charismatic

Corp Culture (roll d4)
1) Straight-Laced: The company is traditionally structured, with a nononsense, ruthless attitude.
2) Laid-Back: The company is lassiez faire. While it obviously cares about profits, it also cares about its employees, along with having a fun, stressfree work environment.
3) Fair: While the company is strict, it’s not heartless. Its policies and attitudes get the job done without making the office a sweatshop.
4) Megacorp-inspired/eccentric: This company takes after its parent mega’s culture, having all their quirks and attitudes. If it’s independent, the company’s culture will seem chaotic, subject to the whims of its eccentric President or CEO.

For management:

For Age:
Ancient - essentially if the dytch east indies company survived.

Maybe also add one where the degree of their influence over the country is. Like maybe they are just a company.. maybe they essentially are the country.

That seems to only take into account general financial outlook. A company can have shit liquidity while still being profitable and vice versa. Many companies with strong stocks aren't even profitable, like Xero.

Also there's no table for broad market strategies like Porter's generic strategies

>>61780544
Dude all Megacorps in the world has a board of directors

Roll instead for organisation structures

>1: "Functional" structure

Various parts of the organisation grouped into functions, such as marketing, r&d, production, procurement, etc.

>2: Divisional structure

Organisation is basically split into mini-companies, with each division having its own marketing, sales, r&d, etc. assets

>3: geographical

The organisation is split into its geographical components. Similar to divisional, except there won't be double up of some efforts such as R&D

>4: Product based

The company is split into parts concerned with each product.

>5: Matrix structure

Mix of divisional and functional
>>
>>61780608
that sounds like it wouldn't be interesting for an RPG. this>>61780544 (note, not the greentext, that's a quote) WOULD be interesting
>>
>>61780631
Depends on how realistic you want to be. Again, no megacorp in the world has no board of directors.

The functional thing could dictate who's on the same team as the CEO. Under a functional structure, it'd be a marketing manager, R&D specialist, engineering manager, etc.

Geographical structures would have people in charge of each region present.

Same with product based

It'd open up certain opportunities.

Maybe several geographical managers team up against the one with the biggest region because they're sick of him hogging all their resources

Under a divisional structure, there could be room for rebelling with a section of the company

Functional structures could have incompetent leaders in certain parts of the company, causing it to fail

There's always going to be 1 CEO with a team, who reports to a board of directors

Hell that opens up it's own opportunities. I know from experience that my CEO lies, or "bends the truth" for when he reports to the Board because he knows they're incompetent and have conflicting ideas so minimizing their input means that he can focus resources where they're needed

Or vice versa, the board could hire people to try and check for internal subterfuge in the megacorp

It makes more sense than just "Oh now there's 2 CEOs" how does that even open up any gameplay mechanics anyway?

I'd make it like that.
Do a 1d100.

The more logical options are made more propable the crazy, but cool ones are less propable. Make it like that for every category that way you usually get something fairly grounded with a few very interesting outlaying tidbits.

>Again, no megacorp in the world has no board of directors.
and again, anything challenging boards of directors is merely a quote.

And yeah, it really depends on how realistic you want it to be. I wouldn't be interested in your table. But that probably jsut means I'm not the target audience and will leave the thread to those interested in its contents.

oh and to follow up my amicable post with a not so nice one:
>It makes more sense than just "Oh now there's 2 CEOs" how does that even open up any gameplay mechanics anyway?
I hate it when people don't read the posts they argue with. You should consider actually reading stuff.

A new table. I modified the leader table.

Organisation is basically split into mini-companies, with each division having its own marketing, sales, r&d, etc. assets
3) geographical
The organisation is split into its geographical components. Similar to divisional, except there won't be double up of some efforts such as R&D

The company is split into parts concerned with each product.
5) Matrix structure
Mix of divisional and functional

3) Transhumanism (organic superhumans)
4) a new ultra-profitable product

6) Extremely sophisticated technology
7) Uplifting animals
8) Doesn't have one

CEO wants to use this development for: (roll d10)
1-3: No one but themselves
4: Their inner circle or shareholders
5: Their employees
6-9: Paying consumers
10: Everyone

I'm sorry anon, but I'm not very creative. All I can do to help is make sure the thread stays bumped.

One quick thought: I think most (all?) tables should either be padded or added to to make standard dice rolls possible, eg those d7s. Another interesting quirkset might be for C-level traits/quality. It'd be slightly tied to organization structure and culture but could add a bit of flavor. Stuff like penny-pinching, splurges, efficient, shady, etc. Quality would just be like Family/friend, fresh, seasoned, professional, etc. Not fully fleshed out but possibly a route to consider
