The aurora borealis punchline is only funny in the original context, it wouldn't work as well in this case.
>>
>>57552487
What?
The joke isn't that it's the aurora, the joke is that it's such obvious bullshit, that Chalmer's points out why it's bullshit, and then believes it.
You can swap out the aurora for something similarly outrageous and not impact the joke whatsoever.
>>

Because normies don't understand memes or even basic jokes they just know they're supposed to laugh at them so they do, never knowing why.

For instance, I had one tell me the steering wheel on the crotch of a pirate joke, delivered the punchline as "it drives my nuts," and then stood there expectantly waiting for me to laugh. He looked confused/hurt when I didn't and was instead just sort of blinking and speechless, so i repeat back what he said, he says "Yeah!" and goes back to waiting expectantly. So I say "the punchline is 'me nuts.'" "What's the difference?" "There isn't a pun otherwise." He gives an "I don't get what you're saying" shrug and goes back to what he was doing.

Nevermind the fact this joke is an equine bloody pulp, so expecting riotous laughter is a little unreasonable, unless nobody actually gets it and they're all just playing along, laughing just as hard every time because they still have no idea what it means and are trying to hide it.

Story number two: talking to newly acquired gf while she drives, she's a film buff (or as close as normies can get, all typical casual stuff) keeps bringing up all these trash movies I've never watched. She says "how have you never seen these?" Trying to not insult her taste in movies to her face I say "Eh, guess I've just been living under a rock. What can you expect from the son of a geologist."
There's a solid 20-30 seconds of dead silence, and just as I think "wow, I didn't think it was that bad. I felt that was at least worth an acknowledgement 'heh'" she finally "gets" it and laughs so hard she nearly drives us off the road.
From this point I knew the relationship would be a feeble and troubled one, and by the second month we had broke up, with me vowing never to try dating a normie again. It reminds me too much of Planet of the Apes where he's nonchalantly riding off into the sunset to commit effective bestiality with the blond oogabooga sitting behind him.

/qst/ is an offshoot board from /tg/, to manage the influx of quest threads that used to be here, to the point that much of /tg/ would complain. There was a schism between the two groups.
Then /qst/ was created, and all the people who were here for quests migrated, save only a few stragglers. There is almost no overlap.
Hence, /qst/ is "technically" part of /tg/, but no one from /tg/ goes there. So you can make up bullshit claims about them and most people from /tg/ wouldn't be able to refute you.

At least, that's why I thought it was funny.
>>
>>57560264
There's a lot of overlap, but in saying that I am basically contesting your anecdotal statement with my own, so grain of salt and all that.

I suppose it does.

In any case, the joke hinges on Skinner correctly assuming that Chalmers doesn't go to /qst/ while stabbing vainly in the dark. He's clearly pulling things out of his ass and hoping Chalmers isn't able to call him on it, and yet Chalmers buys into it, even when he's pointing out the flaws.
It's funny because we can see just how desperately Skinner is reaching for any possible ground to stand on, saying things that are clearly false or provable to be false, and yet he still manages to keep going.
>>
>>57560335
You seem very convinced by this and enthusiastically opinionated on the subject.

Indeed. Getting away from the exhausting explanation of the joke though, this thread was great. It'll be funny if tussle becomes a running joke over on /qst/ because of it.

Well, if you assume there's a bigger overlap, then it's funny because Skinner is assuming that Chalmers never goes to /qst/ and will never go to /qst/, even though it's very easy to go to /qst/ seeing as there's a link right at the start of the catalog. It's such a desperate, desperate lie. A lie specifically tailored for /tg/.

Indeed.

Of course, we can't threaten the party line of the "other". All quests came from other boards, and there were 120 of them a day on /tg/ and no one who ever posted in them ever posted in any other kind of thread. Yep.
>>
>>57551279
Let me tell you about the jews.
>>
>>57560559
Anon, do you know why /vg/ was created despite the existence of /v/?
Ponder on that, and you'll realize why we don't have a separate board for /tg/ generals and why we got a separate board for quests.
>>
>>57560590
Quests and /v/ generals are not remotely similar. For one thing, generals on /tg/ outnumbered quests for years before quests were moved. The typical anti-quest rhetoric can't even get it's story straight. One sentence will be about how all quests were from off board (even though the entire format started on /tg/) and the next will be about how they didn't deserve to be here because they were "parasitic" and drew their audience from the general board population. Everyone hated them because they were too popular. Dumb contradictions and shitty claims that could be refuted with basic evidence.

>>
>>57560637
Here we go again
/tg/ generals are a necessity for established conversation and trove sharing to avoid filling up the board with useless clutter that could be reduced to a couple of threads, they are strictly /tg/ related
Quests are fun, but they're not discussion of the medium nor relevant to the board's topic, /tg/ is about roleplaying, not FOR "roleplaying", and having a separate board for them was the way to go
That's just how board are born, anon
>>
>>57560663
Years after they first started (on /tg/) and years before they became a "problem". The mods stopped enforcing that anyway, and there were quests on /jp/ and /co/ at the time of /qst/. The actual archive numbers show that less than 9% of all /tg/ threads were quests. Less than a full Page's worth of threads across a whole day.

>Anon, you guys are constantly complaining that /tg/ is still rife with questfags.
To be fair, they also like to say that 90% of the board was quests, which often changes to "90% of the front page" when someone points out what a retarded lie that is.
>>
>>57567081
True.
Antiquestfags ARE notorious liars and have an almost decade long history of shitposts.
>>
>>57567092
Or actually maybe it's over a decade, I stopped counting when we hit 8 years of shitposts. Hm.
>>
Quests just over stayed its welcome that's all.

People didn't mind it when it first cropped up because many of them were short with original content. A person basically needed to read the thread and they were pretty much caught up.

Then quests got longer and, after nazimod, we lost roaming creative types completely so quests just became a place for people who were only there from the start.

I understand the arguments for, but quests were very much separated from rest of /tg /by the end.
Nail in the coffin was when every board's quests got thrown to /tg /
>>
>>57567589
Not really.
By the end, as much as half of the populace of any given quest was made up by roaming /tg/ folk, given before and after population statistics.
>>
>>57567589
Anon, ruby quest and dorf quest are both some of the oldest quests, were very popular, and had long archives.
Drew the lich, the prototypical psuedo quest that came before, also had a rather long archive, which was quite hard to catch up on given the technology of the day.

People on /tg/ have been playing rather long campaigns on /tg/ since right after the inception of /tg/.
>>
>>57567589
Quests that didn't involve drawings like Ruby Quest did were all shit.
The best quests etc were ones that had more than just fucking walls of text to read.
I especially loved the evo games. Primordial was fucking hype.
>>
>>57567589
Incorrect. Hardly anyone complained about quests prior to all the shitty railroad quests from /a/ getting dumped here. /tg/ was fine with a dozen flavors of 40k quests, but once we were seeing 5+ "stuttering protagonist must decide which of these three lolis to romance and also I will be ignoring my players if they don't pick my correct options" quests up at the same time, people rightfully began to get annoyed with them.
>>
>>57567803
Those were actually rather rare compared to /tg/ fare.
>>
>>57567798
Some of the text ones were actually pretty damn good.
>>
>questfags ruin yet another good thread with their bitching

This is why you aren't welcome here
>>
>>57567803
There was always the core group of anti-questfags, who were bitching about quests since ruby quest and never stopped. They were known for lying, spamming, shitposting, and the like, and their methods and behaviors can be followed to even modern day antiquestfags.
>>
>>57567847
If you'd pay attention, this all started when someone who didn't like quests claimed there wasn't much overlap between /tg/ posters and /qst/ posters.
Kind of foolish to say "there's none of those guys here" if you don't want those guys to be like "I am totally here".
