I've done similar, sort of. Not quite in this context, though.

For myself, I used to have a calendar where I'd use a stamp to mark off days I'd accomplished certain tasks (like working out). Keeping a streak going to continue getting my stamps kept me on track until I got interrupted and never went back it.

In an art-focused rpg I helped run, people could submit art of the rpg characters for a theme and earn points. You'd earn more points the more effort was put into it (multiple characters, foreshortening, full color; etc). Just getting the bare minimum points for submitting a one person, no background sketch was pretty much out of the question for most people. Submissions were also far higher than you would expect from normally flaky artists, because there was inherent status from having collected more points. (Not just because you could spend the points to buy extra characters, costume changes; etc.)

Some rpg systems have something similar built in. Prime Time Adventures, Tenra Bansho Zero, Golden Sky Stories - all examples of games with "bennies" that are thumbs-ups from the GM and other players to show they're enjoying your playing. Knowing your efforts were noticed and appreciated by *someone* feels great and encourages more of the desired behavior.

I feel like OP's GMother stickers are a way of showing visible validation of desired behavior. Not just from her to the player, but also showing the other players that particular people are earning more or less approval, reinforcing it inside the group. They may think the stickers are dumb and childish, but like hell is anyone with any degree of social awareness going to do things to earn them less stickers.

On the subject of systems that reinforce this I think Exalted does a good job with the stunt rules.

Essentially any time you take an action where you're actually rolling dice you can get a stunt bonus that gives you a small bonus to your roll. The better the description the larger the bonus you get, from a 1 point stunt to a 3 point stunt.

The stunt system I think has honestly made us all significantly better roleplayers. Nobody ever wants to just say, "I attack the bandit" or "I hit him with my sword" because we want that sweet 2 extra dice and an automatic success, so we'll say, "I trip him forward with my left leg and then step in so he falls onto my sword as I thrust upward into him."

I think I'd include something like the stunt system in almost any game I'd run because it makes people put so much more effort into describing their actions.

I always thought whole point of the bennies in Golden Sky Stories is pretty genius.

Bennies given by the GM and players to each other (including the GM) are used to fuel their powers. The intention is to build up to a Miyazaki/Ghibli grand finale where the really expensive powers can be used to do something Big Deal to end the game session with.

Only really works with games that are meant to be oneshots or serial campaigns (same characters going through multiple oneshots), but it does it pretty well. Especially if the players know that's the intention.
