Bored at work, so let's make an inquisitor using the creation table

https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Inquisitor_Creation_Tables

Rules: first three roles are the candidates. I roll a 1d3 to determine which roll is chosen, unless majority wish to go with a certain choice over another

First off, our gender. Roll a 1d100

Let's see what we roll for Ordos and other traits before we get into that. She might be some feared and revered woman that has provided inspiration and dread to various people throughout the galaxy through her deeds, or she's a pencil-pusher with a little more authority that no one's bothered to kill or even meet with much.
>>
>>54439761

No body knows your true age, either because you've kept it a well kept secret or because you yourself have forgotten. The years grow shorter, and blur into a seamless stretch of time that has been your career.

Some say you have always been with the inquisition. Some believe you were one of the chosen of Malcador the hero to found it. Others believe you a liar, someone who has spread rumors of you age to appear powerful or dangerous or some other contrived reason.

It matters not, your life is a tool of the emperor's will, and not even age has slowed you.

A mute crippled war hero at the young age of 45, with a loving wife and children. He was badass in the sense that he was more akin to an Administratium sage than an Inquisitor, looking deep into documents, taxes, bills, etc in order to find odd ends where cults and heretics have made errors in the system. He would then dispatch another Inquisitor along with storm troopers in order to bring the emperors jusgement upon the Heretics

Your records are long gone, some clerical error perhaps. Maybe the machinations of an enemy? Or even your own descision. In any case, you are known throughout the inquisition as an unknown.

No Ordos or title, and no known age. Rumors have risen and fallen around you. Some say you are the remaining member of a Ordos chronos. Others say you don't exist, and are just a myth used to help show new inquisitors the scope and age of the Inquisition. You've heard an Ordos was established to discover your history.

Your work, you duty to mankind and the emperor, matters more though.

Holy shit she's a puritan. An ancient, obscure puritan. Ordos are supposed to be caucuses, right? They aren't official, they're just a way of saying what kinda threats to the imperium the inquisitor is interested in dealing with. So maybe this old lady doesn't limit herself to one type of enemy - maybe she's fought heretics, aliens and daemons for centuries? She's gotta be an Inquisitor Lord by now.

Whatever your reasons, you realize the mutant and the psychic hold a place in society, as inferiors in any case.

>Artistic talent: Cooking, painting or music are all possible avenues of exploration for the talented artist.

An empty stomach is a dead one. The human body, despite its perfection, is a temple that requires tribute. You have mastered the culinary arts, creating dishes and courses that satisfy the mind and body both. In all other areas you are frugal and utilitarian, as excess and opulence lead to she who thirsts. However cooking you have indulged in, and have made it into a potent weapon used to keep yourself and those you overseer at peek performance.

This is probably one of the best /tg/ has ever made

An Inquisitor

No name or many worn lightly and no title beyond her job.

No exact age but everyone remembers her always looking old, even ancients like Dreadnaught remember her looking old even when they were young.

Belongs to no ordo.

Knows many people in high positions, even people she shouldn't and knows things they would rather she didn't.

Is she psychic? People thinks so but with little evidence. Maybe she is and is good at hiding it, maybe she isn't and is good at faking it.

Gets along better with mutants and abhumans and psykers than most of her kind as they are afflicted humans but human nevertheless.

I'm guessing that if asked to describe her people would say of medium build, average height, grey hair and no distinguishing features. Her voice is soft and either has no accent at all or a soft one that nobody can place.

Her deeds are many but the nature of them are hidden. Just an entire datastack in the Inquisition HQ that nobody can access.

Deamons call her Nameless and hold her in contempt, to them names are all and she has shed hers like a grey old serpent shedding it's skin.

Can call in favours from Space Marines. What chapter are they from? Nobody will say and their armour is devoid of markings and their helmets do not come off.

The Harlequins have been see in her presence and they call her the many yeared woman, perhaps as a friendly name, perhaps as mockery, perhaps as an honorific. Who can say with the Cosmic Jesters. But they have spoken to her in respectful High Gothic and she has answered them in their own High Tongue.

Alpha legion is """chaos""" insofar as no one is sure whether they actually are or they've been merely pretending the whole time to kill chaos from the inside. Or anything much else about them, really.

Harlequins are noted for not being nearly as arrogant or haughty as other elder and regularly work with the imperium to fuck up chaos.
>>
>>54443517
I support this immensely so.

Idk why, but I imagine Ana Amari as a good reference to how she looks.

And the amount of respect and power she hold in just her none existent name is amazing.

I like to think demons and sorcerers have tried to steal her name from within her mind, and found nothing except a smirking old woman.

>>54443519
Ah alrighty
>>
>>54443517
So with this stuff in mind possiblky

What is her goal? As in, why does she do what she does? She may not have an ordo, but there must be something that she is working for or against. Is she the last surviving membe rof Ordos Chronos and is trying to discover where they went?

Is she Enigmatic figure in the inquisition seeking to guide it towarda a certain goal?

If she is as ancient as we think, does she hate the religious focus of the Imperium now? does she like it? is it merely a tool to keep the empire together, or does she think it's what's tearing it apart?
>>
>>54443517
I suggest she always has a few squads of Deathwatch Blackshields hanging around. They're actual Inquisition agents, and for well with her "leave no trace of personal history".
I think she'd find a kinship with them, to be honest.
What flavor of outcast should it be? Roll
>edgy anti-social outcasts, their biggest complaint is there isn't enough corners of the ship in which to brood alone, they are prickly even to the Inquisitor
>jaded quiet husks who stopped shouldering their baggage ages ago, they are terse, professional, oddly impassionate, unmoving
>total bros, those kids in highschool who make a social clique because they don't fit in elsewhere, treats the Inquisitor like the teacher who let's them bum in the classroom during lunch
>The Expendables (especially the second movie), a colorful cast of different personalities with nothing left to loose but an opportunity for some badassery

Roll a d4!

God damn this thread is reminding me of my grandmother.
>>
>>54443794
She should remind everyone of the grandmother.

>>54443785
And she has her own private army, so perhaps we should roll up a chapter?
>>
>>54443771
Her goal is that of the Inquisition or at least what it should be; safeguarding the Imperium from threats inside and out. That is the one consistent fact anyone can pin down. She is pro-Imperium. Just like every other Inquisitor.

She may or may not know where the Ordo Chronos went. She had contacts in it, it is known/strongly suspected. But she has contacts everywhere. If she knows where they are no she isn't telling.

She is indifferent to religion one way or the other. People believe stuff and she seems to have no problem with that so long as it isn't Chaos. Does she have a faith? Who even knows.

>turns out when she was younger, she was incredibly attractive and every male inquisitor and noble wanted to bang her

It's not as bad as finding out your sweet grandmother was a slut and had fucked most of her hometown, but its still enough to make someone uncomfortable
>>
>>54443949
Well, Blackshields are a bit of a rarity, but even a dozen would pretty much be a private army, being two or three whole Deathwatch squads. Honestly a platoon of Blackshields and a small company of supporting Scions would be in order.
We shouldn't do more than the most general rolls for Blackshields, seeing as it's a very piecemail unit. Really it's the perfect unit for "gee i wish we bad a demolitions expert" and one of them steps out of the crowd saying "By the throne, I'm you're man" A bit of a tool kit or Swiss army knife unit, or in this case Swiss army claymore.

Our Blackguard platoon are professional beyond professional, each having a past as murky and ill-remembered as their own pasts. Their quiet, tempered attitude is particularly unobstructive, which is fortunate for the purposes of being on a small fast attack ship.
They are a band without a past, without connections, but not without hope. Under the command of the Inquisitor there is a sense of belonging, something almost breaching upon community. The very things they seek to reclaim but know they have forsaken. She sees the thing that they and many in the Imperium fail to see, their humanity.
And bakes them lots of cookies and homemade hearty meals
>>
>>54444221
*each having a past as murky an ill-remembered as that of the Inquisitor.
>>
>>54444221
I like how she uses her grandmotherlyness as an effective tool XD

And I'm game with her private army being just a bunch of rando marines from random chapters coming together to form a sorta family.
>>
>>54444483
If she is to have an army, it could be a scion level company of... lost souls, which draws on being "exotic". It wouldn't be proper to call them IG since they also draw from Costodes, AdMech, and various survivors met along the way. The only thing they have in common are a past of being battletested remnants of much larger units that have been decimated and now don't have a larger structure to go back to. Some are even loyalist turncoats who abandoned traitorous units.
Whatever their painful past, the 134th Amalagated Inquisition Attache, or The Lost Boys Brigade, feels a kinship with eachother and uses their diversity as a strength, breeding out unit specialization in exchange for flexibility. A flexibility that bodes well with their moderate Puritan commander.
I'm going to say they're the high flying Expendables types, and this puts them at odds with the pensive Blackshields.

Also, for psychological misdirection, these Blackshields call themselves " The Third Platoon", even though the are the only platoon of their Space Marine contingency.
>>
>>54444786
Or they're the third platoon because 2 platoons worth of Blackshields have served with the Inquisitor previously and rather than remember them as individuals (which goes against the point of being Blackshields) they are remembered collectively as "The First" and "The Second"
>>
>>54444786
I'm liking this idea. So her Army are those broken few who would have been forgotten or placed aside. Those who had lost their homes or brothers. Those who needed guidance and a new collective group to call their own. It makes sense, cause she has way less of an impact this way on the galaxy, and thus, remains even more enigmatic
>>
>>54445041
She should have names for them, maybe in secret. Knits them scarves.

Would there be Xenos in her army? I'm thinking likely not, but sanctioned Xenos are a thing and they can be useful
>>
>>54445110
maybe some EX-Corsair Eldar who lost their ship and are left as little more than a skeleton crew in a small vessel come by periodically to help.

And the Inquisitor darns their socks and complains about how thin they are, of course.
>>
>>54445041
How about this, since there's not much chance of a party wipe, with guys filtering in and out, every once in a great while the old timer marines look around at eachother and realize that none of the members who were "originals" when they joined are still around. So as you said, to pay tribute to those who have gone before they rename themselves. Her unit has been around so long that it's on the third iteration of piece by piece replacement. It's a Ship of Theseus, for sure.

>>54445110
What's her nickname for her current group of Marines?
>>
>>54445077
Yes, exactly! A bit like the old grandma who has a whole household of foster kids.

However, she has to keep a tight grip on the unit, as their diverse backgrounds and unit doctrines can cause friction and tempers to flare. One of the continuing narratives is how she guides her unit to put aside past differences and see eachother as brothers in arms, more capable together than they ever were as broken units.

I figured most of those were competing ideas, not all to be applied at once, but hey.

I do like the idea of her personal army being heavy on abhumans and mutants with useful mutations.

>>54445962
>wrong.jpeg
You're off by a whole factor of magnitude and a half, how embarrassing. There's 200 Deathguard in a single fortress, not total, and there's at least (and probably much more) over a dozen fortresses. At least one or two chapters worth, probably more.
Do you think there would be an entire RPG system dedicated to a 200 man force, and why would they be in Sector Podunk where the rpg was set.

Do a little research and you'll see having a bakers dozen isn't "Mary Sue". This isn't a personal entourage of Gray Knights, then you'd have the right to say Mary Sue.

Admittingly this character is pretty Mary Sue, but there's a good place for such characters, as foils and supporting characters. And with how "dark and mysterious" as she is, I think she's perfect as a protagonist's boss's boss. The monolithic, unknowable top dog who is impossible to level with or upstage, until the main hero grows a bit. The hero both gets her clout by proxy and lives in a shadow of greatness, all at the same time.

If she was the main character, it would be insufferable to follow her. But I would definitely rock Inquisitor Edith as the Lord Inquisitor you report to in a Dark Heresy game.

>>
>>54448981

>>
Op back

And yeah this is merely the first draft. Also me agreeing to a lot of that was my being swept up in it.

I think we should sit down and filter some shit out, so we can have a good character that isn't a Mary sue
>>
So effectivly whatI think the essence of what we want is:

She's an Old woamn, commonly compared to a grandmother like figure as well as holding plenty of rumors, known history, and such to make many fear her.

She possibly holds some respect with a none imperium body or group.

Her army are the outcasts of imperium society, most likely being Abhumns and mutants who can serve her, as well as maybe the odd space marine. This army focuses on using its various strengths and talents as a flexible army, rather then a specilized one, to better help the Inquisitors plans and missions.

>>54443961
^I like the above post in terms of motivations and her feeling son certain thing.

Anyone have any details they think should be changed or add to her? We have to be sure to trim unnessasary thing. While the deathwatch is cool, I agree that it's a little over the top,
>>
>>54451199
I think working some of this >>54440302 in with this >>54443961 might be nice. Id like it if her main focus is trying to find them. Investigating every sign and clue for the Ordo Chronos.
>>
>>54451270
I personally dig the Ordos Chronos route. Plenty of room to investigate it, and having a unique outlook could help her with that.
>>
>>54440068

It's a bit more nuanced than simply spotting errors. I remember one story of a member of an Inquisitor's retinue finding criminals not because of what wasn't out of order, but because everything was in order. The Administratum never has records that match up so perfectly with what's delivered, not unless someone wants them to look ordered so as to avoid attention.
>>
>>54451316
I really like it too and the idea that she needs to be fast to find any trace before it might be gone would fit in well with her hard and fast tactics and flexible army. Felinids for speed, Ogryn for strength, Ratlings for small spaces that she keeps in line with her amazing cooking. Creme of the crop Navigators for her fast as hell ship. It's all gooda as far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>54451449
Abhumanity seems like her MO, since mutants seems going a bit far

Is Edith gonna be what we go with for her name? Or are we gonna go with more of a title people have givben her due to not knwoing anything about her?
>>
>>54451863
It is what she answers to.

If Edith is not a common name on a planet she is working on she will find the nearest common equivalent.
>>
>>54451901
Makes sense. So she likely has a massively long list of names that are similar from all over the imperium.

Her army is a collection of Abhuman forces. How large would this army be? sinc eit's personal, I would imagine at most a smallish medium force.
>>
>>54452382
First we have determine how big her ship is. If we are going in small and fast then the Cobra Destroyer is the smallest warp capable war ship at 1.5 km. Crew size 15,000.

So maybe she could have as many as a few hundred at most plus all equipment and supplies. Less army the longer supplies last so maybe less

Also it safe to assume she modified the ship considerable for maximum speed at the expense of all else.
>>
>>54452580
from what her rolls set up, she has a herald. Though the rolls ar emore guidelines so I could see her having a fast war ship over an unarmed Herald.

I'd imagine she'd focus on a smaller more elite and equipped force to help her handle her missions. She uses her abhumans to the best of their unique abilities, as their plac ein humanities destiny warranted their existence for a reason.

I like to think her personal retinue is a collection of one of each abhuman, a sorta super squad that covers everything needed to be covered.
>>
>>54452580
It would need to be further modified though, no weapons and munitions. Which should free up more space for storage and/or troops.

Alright, Dark Heresy campaign. What missions will Inquisitor Edith (lovingly referred to as Grandma Inquisitor) send her space marines/mutants/whatever the fuck she has on?

>Search an entire section of a Hive City for any sign of heretics, just to keep them in tip top shape.
>Infiltrate a chaos controlled city in search for a mysterious artifact that may or may not be altering the passage of time inside the city.
>Break down a mutant uprising while getting as many mutants as possible to repent for their sins and dedicate the rest of their short, pitiful lives to serving the Emperor
>>

>Infiltrate a chaos controlled city in search for a mysterious artifact that may or may not be altering the passage of time inside the city.

More than likely this followed by this

>Break down a mutant uprising while getting as many mutants as possible to repent for their sins and dedicate the rest of their short, pitiful lives to serving the Emperor

And now with her newly marshaled forces

>Search an entire section of a Hive City for any sign of heretics, just to keep them in tip top shape.

And if their are any, well she has new cannon fodder and meat shields to throw at the enemy.

I think anything Time Related should take priority in her book, so much so that she'd abandon/expedite/pass a mission along to someone else to investigate.
