The Thread Where Rokuten Posts More Non-Space Marine Shit

Warmasters Triumvirate is an attempt at creation yet another 40k AU. The Primarchs have changed, and instead of appointing a single Warmaster upon returning to Terra, the Emperor leaves the Great Crusade in the care of three of his sons. This eventually culminates in a civil war between Loyalists, Chaos Traitors and Seperatists...

I've finished my reply to Sarco's promt last thread, about the Legion's most major defeat (pre-Heresy):

The Titan Marchers’ greatest failure during the Great Crusade took place on the planet Peorus, capital world of the Hundris Republic of Peorus. The Hundris were a highly technologically advanced xenos race most easily described as anthropomorphic hounds, though their skin was more akin to leather, instead of being covered in fur.

While the original encounter with the 19th Expedition fleet, an Expedition fleet headed by Death’s Heads Korpsmarshall Ernst Ganswindt, was non-aggressive, the situation soon escalated once the Death’s Heads found the remnants of a human colony on one of the system’s planets, clearly destroyed by of Hundris weaponry.

The Death’s Heads waged a brutal campaign against the Republic, with the ferocity and terror that had come to be expected from the VIth. During the conflict it became obvious that the Hundris placed large parts of their military in the care of abominable intelligence. The Republic’s capital world, Peorus, however, turned out to be a particularly viable world, one worthy of being absorbed by the Imperium of Man, as long as the xenos could be purged.

The Hundris were dug in deep and the 19th Expedition fleet did not have the necessary Titanicus attachments in order to siege Peorus large capital fortress-city, Peorhem. Noting that a Titan Marchers fleet had recently finished a campaign a number of systems away, Korpsmarshall Ganswindt ordered his astropaths to make contact and request the XVIIth legion’s aid. The 77th Expedition fleet, lead by Chapter Master Parkaso Gurai, arrived in system a couple of weeks later, ready to join the fight on Peorus. Ganswindt and Gurai agreed on their course of action. The Titan Marchers would take Peorhem, while the Death’s Heads would secure the rest of the planet and begin purging the xenos scum.
>>
>>53372237
Peorhem was defended by several AI systems, controlling massive autocannons, anti-air weaponry and impressive void shielding. The city’s surface appeared to be one big fortress, with intelligence suggesting the population itself had been moved underground. The Marchers laid siege to the bastion, eventually focussing their fire on a single point and breaking the void shields. At that point Gurai sent in over 3000 marines, including veterans and Dreadnoughts and two Titan Legios, Legio Astraman and Legio Xestobiax. This was the time to strike!

However, the Hundris had outsmarted the rash Chapter Master. The capital’s population, as well as the Hundris’ leaders, had already been moved to several secret locations across the planet. To Gurai’s shame, the siege had been a waste of time. Gurai did not have much time to regret his mistake however, as shortly after the discovery had been made dozens, if not hundreds of nuclear weapons exploded underneath Peorhem’s surface. Peorhem had been a trap.

Thousands of Titan Marchers died that day, and most of the Titan Legios had perished. The Death’s Heads managed to purge the planet eventually, but the 77th Exploration fleet had been devastated. After the campaign on Peorus had been finished up, the 77th fleet returned to Manaan, where Raj was waiting for Gurai.

Raj scolded Gurai for hours, some even say days. His lack of proper recon had cost him most of his chapter and almost two entire Titan Legios. Gurai was stripped of his position and stationed on Manaan to train Neophytes. Gurai did not protest. He had already been given the name 'Gurai the Broken'.

What do people think of the idea of the XVth having stealth battleships or having improved warp drives to allow them to translate closer to a gravity well. The idea would be for them to get up close and suddenly appear like a romulan warbird decloaking or that image of a deep sea predator lighting up for the kill.

With this, fear and terror are also used as weapons. Voxes filled with screams. I've mentioned it somewhat with the campaign in Khodos, but I'm thinking a certain level of dread is used wherever they can.
They're not Night Lords about it, so much as trying to lock the enemy for a critical moments with surprise and fear.
It's less useful against xenos monsters, but they make use of things like null auras and actinic fields to disquiet the enemy.
The Admech stuff plays a major role in this. They'll do things like surround an enemy and pound the fortress walls with artillery and unleash thallax, charonites, or on rare occasions, Elver into a gap, infiltrate them into the fortress to hunt.

>>53372249
I like it. Does Gurai show up again?
>>
>>53372332
I'd argue that's exceptionally advanced technology that gives the XVth too much of an advantage for very little cost.

If the Separatist legions are going to get significant technological advantages, they need to come with costs. For example, leaving the Warp closer to gravity wells is less due to improved Warp drives and more due to taking the inhibitors and restraints off. This means that landing close to a gravity well without crashing into the source of the gravity well requires a lot of courage and/or stupidity, a great deal of precision and accurate guesswork and finally, a healthy dose of luck. This likely has led to at least a few occasions where they've lacked at least one of those prerequisites and ended up smashing into a planet's surface the moment they emerged from the Warp.

As for the stealth option, again, I'd suggest either going with technology with high chance of backfiring spectacularly or a brave yet stupid mundane decision. If you go with the latter, have the legion's ships run silent for hours, perhaps day or even weeks at a time. I'm talking about turning off every last system on the vessel - engines, generators, life support - and letting the momentum take the ship to where it needs to go. The Space Marines just sit in silence, patiently waiting in temperatures that are on the border of absolute zero, ready to reactivate the ship's systems at a moment's notice. Sure, some sensors might be able to detect something drifting past them but they'll likely only realize it's a ship and not an asteroid when the vessel comes to life or if they get close enough to see it - at which point, they're fucked.
>>
>>53372332
I'm thinking of having Gurai show up again at a later point. My idea was to have him regain his honor and dignity when Manaan comes under attack during the Heresy, when Raj is off fighting somewhere else.

>>53372641
Some good points here. Tech advantages need significant risks attached in 40k.
>>
>>53372641
That's a damn good point. I think there will be a few critical battles at the height of the heresy where they do risk the fleet on a dangerous warp translation, with mixed results.

The silent running, I think, will be more typical.
>>
Also, since everyone's pointing at Gregoire for 'first Primarch to be discovered by the Emperor,' I've got to ask:

What's the ideal age for the Primarch that gets found first? This is important because every other Primarch will be discovered at a later stage in their life than the one that got found first. So if anyone gets found by the Emperor during their adolescence or even childhood, the first one to get found will need to one-up that.
>>
>>53372985
Ehm, I've considered that, but I don't think that's actually the case. Some Primarchs were kept in the warp for longer most likely. That's why Horus is actually considered to be the oldest and Alpharius is considered the youngest.
>>
>>53372985
Well in OU the primarchs were adults by the time the Emperor found them, with the culture of their upbringing in turn changing the culture of their legions. So I'd say anywhere from mid teens to young adult (18-25) would be the youngest I'd be willing to ever make a primarch.
>>
>>53372985
I think for Gregoire, young adult makes sense. Gives him time to rule in style.

Side note, I'm thinking Gyahdred gets found a few years before the first Rangdan Xenocide. So the 840s. Means the legion's first major campaign is Rangda. Also thinking Ryamtscho is up north-east, on the front lines for that war.

Rangdan could also help explain the Elver mutation, as they were known as Cerbevores. Perhaps the act of eating the mind/brain of an astartes created a psychic imprint on their primarch; one that has remained ever since.

The Emperor.
>>
>>53375606
That would be real chaos. Emperor rebelling against himself.
>>
>>53375593
Well, we should have 3 undivided legions, yeah?

>>53373670
That could work. Perhaps this means that the legion volunteered for the second and third rounds in hopes of breaking the Curse. Records that survive indicate that this did not work out and events at the climax of the third Rangdan Xenocide are the reason the librarius was shut down until the middle of the heresy.
>>
>>53375593
>>53376499
Discarding the Forge Lords as an option because of the Hashut thing, it looks like the choice is between the Leviathans and the Loxodontii.
>>
It doesn't matter which god the warmaster follows, they'll all break apart anyway.
>>
>>53376670
The Loxodontii also don't work, since Ashur gets backstabbed by his own legion.
>>
IMO, the third warmaster doesn't even have to be Chaos.
>>
>>53376670
It could be as follows:

Since the Leviathan Host's lore is pretty much setting them up as Arch-Traitors, we could have Ashur be the official Warmaster chosen into position by Emps. The major reason why his legion backstabs him is because he didn't take steps to secularise his men and so the chaplains turn them all to open chaos worship, which pretty much could make the shaman Barabash I have set up already make contact with Marduk as the two have received visions from the dark gods that they are allies. Marduk becomes the leading figure of the Chaos-fleet after Ashur is enslaved with support from Barabash as a renown psyker and chaos worshipper among the ranks. It could pretty much be that the breaking of the Loxodontii marks the official beginning of the chaos heresy, after which Marduk rallies the other legions to beeline for Terra but because of their unruly warmongery the force disperses into skirmishes across the northern fringes of the Imperium.
>>
>>53376893
The Collaring of Ashur being the start of the Heresy work well enough, but that would mean the other legions have to be on board by that point.
>>
>>53377035
Marduk collaborating with Barabash and slowly infiltrating the other legions shouldn't be that difficult. Especially the far-spread Loxodontii expeditions fleets would easily come into contact with other legions and spread the word.

So one idea that has been suggested to me is that the Brotherhood of the Abyss becomes aware of webway gates-- idea being that they're involved in research on the warp, and, at some point, find a broken webway gate.
Along with Gyahdred's own slinking around on Terra ala Moritarion, the legion develops a drive system based on warped webway technologies. It's some sort of warp dive that makes use of the currents around the webway itself to fling ships faster, relying on the deep currents of the warp to get them where they want to be before surfacing suddenly in a method akin to a webway portal.
Said slingshotting typically burns out a few psykers in the process and has the potential to go horribly, horribly wrong, but during and post heresy, desperation forces them to attempt it. This too, perhaps has something to do with why they shut down their Librarius following the 3rd Rangdan, where something goes horribly horribly wrong with all the psykers in the legion.

Else I can just have them disable their safety overrides, but I think riding the deep currents has a certain flair to it. Naturally something with this also ends up fucking with the webway on Terra and ends up screwing everybody over, though I'm not sure quite how yet.
>>
>>53376893
>>53377035
>>53377063
I definitely like this.

I think it would work best in a scenario where it starts off as a war of succession and then things get out of hand.
>>
>>53377090
Succession war about who becomes next warmaster or emperor?

>Because no we're not letting the emperor die at the beginning of the brotherwar.
Why not?
>>
>>53377268
Because the concequences of that would be too major. The idea was to take out the Emperor earlier on though.
>>
>>53376670
Speaking of the Hashut thing, how would you feel if the Forge Lords fell to chaos independently from the other traitor legions? I was playing with the idea of Mot Hadad visiting Zharr-Naggrund at some point during his tenure as the praetor of Terra after Ullanor and deciding that he had had enough of the Emperor's ostensible shit and the remaining smith-kings indoctrinate him into their cult, which (surprise surprise) worships Hashut as a builder and bringer of progress. Maybe this includes some kind of vision of the Imperium stagnating while the Emperor sits on Terra doing nothing about it.

Really? We're changing all the legions and having three warmasters, completely altering the course of history. Killing the Emperor is not that big a deal, especially since he's going to die anyway.
>>
>>53377291
How so? Gives everyone a reason to fight?
And I wasn't thinking of him dying so much as being critically injured, like if he got choked out by that warboss. He's not dead, but he's been taken back to Terra and the Custodes basically put the planet on lockdown for fear that chaos will take advantage of the situation. The Custodes handle the situation poorly and there's a scramble to fill the power vacuum. Malcador is prevented from repairing the situation somehow, too.
The Emperor gets better, but by that time the galaxy is already in the middle of civil war and chaos is making its move.

Something like that.
>>
>Parallels
>>
>>53377268
Possible reasons:
>The Emperor is the only thing keeping mankind together and away from Chaos, in the first place. His removal is therefore a prime motivation for the chaos gods to corrupt his sons into a chaos fighting force and attacking Terra
>With the Emperor dead, the loyalist forces would immediately accept the separatists as their lieges as they are the next best thing, thus not leading to the intended 3-way brotherwar
>Deviating from the original plot too much creates so much unnecessary extra work and these projects already take forever to reach anywhere near completion, already

>>53377378
There's thousands of other reasons to fight, empy dyeing at the beginning however takes away good driving points to the plot.

>>53377382
Why didn't you say so earlier? That's something I can get behind rather than emps being removed completely. A misunderstanding, then.
>>
>>53377440
>empy dyeing at the beginning however takes away good driving points to the plot.
Like?
>>
>>53377382
This sounds much better to me. I'm not in favor of killing off the Emperor just to be contrarian. If we kill off the Emperor we'll have to figure out the exact consequences that would have for the Imperium, which is something I'm not particularly interested in getting into. Him getting critically injured is much easier to deal with.
>>
>>53377440>>53377440
>With the Emperor dead, the loyalist forces would immediately accept the separatists as their lieges as they are the next best thing, thus not leading to the intended 3-way brotherwar

It would take the exact same amount of work.

May I redirect you to this screencap.

Basically, lots of envy, again the point that without an Emps, Chaos has no reason to muster an actual force to fight because then the gods would just corrupt mankind on their own, and an actual unifying force for the loyalists, because if the separatists are only lip-servicing to their warmaster after their secession it's just as well the loyalists would either splinter or , as aforementioned, just switch over to the secessionists.

These guys don't have a reason to muster a fighting force?

None of the gods have a reason not to corrupt the primarchs. The death of the Emperor could only expedite their plans. If the primarchs are vulnerable, then they seize the opportunity. Perhaps their corruption even began before the Emperor's death.

Also, the gods are, and always have been, corrupting mankind on their own.

>because if the separatists are only lip-servicing to their warmaster after their secession it's just as well the loyalists would either splinter or , as aforementioned, just switch over to the secessionists.
Depends entirely on their devotion to the Imperium and the warmaster's influence. Besides, I was going to initially have the Ogre Legion as loyalist before breaking off anyway.
>>
>>53377440
>>53377459
I tried to say that from the beginning, but it wasn't terribly clear.

I definitely don't want the Emperor dead, either, since that requires all kinds of work on his nature. And we did that last AU. I think here we want him as a vegetable as in the OU.

The big question in the Emperor injury scenario is when Nikea and the Warmastering happen.
Assuming we want the heresy to occur at about the same time as it does in the OU, I think the easiest solution is to have the Warmasters chosen at the outset of the campaign and to skip Nikea. Given the distribution of the legions, it doesn't look like psykers are a critical question in this setting.
If we need something like it, we can move Nikea before Ullanor.

Actually, now that I think of it, I like it. Nikea shuts down the librarius program, then Ullanor happens and the Emperor is sent back to Terra in critical condition. The legions finish the campaign in revenge. Power jockeying begins soon afterwards, but the critical event is when somebody violates the edict of Nikea and Je'sha? Orders their censure. Shit hits the fan because Gregoire brings a legion or two and interposes himself with the censure fleet, but being the Sun King, he just makes matters worse by saying he should be the one to make unilateral decisions.
Assur also gets pissy, protesting Je'sha's actions and Gregoire's claims to supremacy. Things escalate from there.

If we kill Empy, what happens with the webway? Terra would be consumed by daemons, and you know, it's pure fuckery. I think the Emprah should 1) stay alive longer than in the OU 2) become a veggie or something, getting out of the way.

Killing him would let 6 Primarchs w/o leader, they would either create new empires or go with the other factions. Killing one of our 3 factions in the process.

Why would Nikea happen before Ullanor? Even under such situations, if we assume it's the close combat specialists that get sent to Ullanor this time again, I could very easily see Pacha ordering his psykers to go all out again mid-battle, he's not letting the SMs nor the Emperor get butchered even if it's under the latter's orders.

This is very good. I'm in.

Very good concept from you and elephant.

Even if there are loyal sons to the emperor. There is one who stands by and then retreats....damdamdam....deshain kane....

Considering the webway: nothing happens because there is no magnus who destroys the wards. The emperor who is hurt on ulanor hasn't even begun with tge work so there is no rift on terra.

If the emperor dies thej there is no astronomicon and tge falaxy ends in darkness. No navigator can steer the vessels through the warp and we have a new age of darkness.
>>
>>53377888
Brainstorming what else could happen to the Emperor....

1: He neither dies completely nor Golden Thrones as in canon, but rather gets a degenerative malady from some source. He's more active than canon, but tails off over time.

2: He pulls a Jaghatai in the final Siege of Terra or thereabouts. Something happens with the Webway Project, the Emperor steps in directly to solve it, ____________ happens and the Emperor's lost in the Webway, perhaps never to be seen again. Perhaps he even still runs the Astronomicon, giving the people faith, and its ebb and flow is interpreted as the Emperor getting closer and further from return.

3: Emperor is frozen in stasis by someone or thing, Guilliman style. He's clearly not dead, maybe even emerged the definitive victor against the ChaosMaster without much injury, but he can't power the Throne either, and the Imperium must adjust.

4: Something so *utterly horrifying* happens to or because of his sons that the Emperor actually reconsiders whether or not humanity is worth saving. The Emperor outright abandons humanity to its own devices, leaving the three factions to battle it out for what's left.

5: It's not just the ChaosMaster fighting the Emperor on Terra, it's most or all of the Chaos Primarchs. Unlike fighting Horus, the Emperor can clearly see how deep the rot goes and fights at full burn from the very beginning since he's greatly outnumbered. Pooling their resources and the power of Chaos, the Chaos Primarchs cast the Emperor directly into the Warp itself, deep, deep beyond the Webway and normal Imperial travel. This probably kills most of the Chaos guys, but the Emperor is utterly removed from human space for an indefinite period of time. (Although as time goes on, perhaps the servants of Chaos find their powers getting weaker and weaker, and the Gods growing ever more quiet...)

Thoughts?

Why do we have to have Ullanor?

>>
>>53377944
Canon Nikaea was first and foremost powermongering among the primarchs shitting up Magnus' agenda, exploiting an already existing tendency of the Emperor and coupling it to the existing fear of the risk that psykers are.

Yes, the use of psykers was discussed, but ultimately it was Magnus fucking up in cleaning up his own mess that even led to the council. If All the legions just obeyed the official restrictions, all would be fine and well.

So it's fairly easy to have Nikaea happen prior to the Ullanor campaign, especially considering that psykers when encountered on planets on non-Imperial worlds were often tied to occultism and various religious organisations. The Emperor's main creed is Euphoria, after all, so he definitely tries to cull occultism and esotericism wherever he encounters it. There's various legions who're deeply entrenched in these practices or who edge dangerously close to those areas (Loxodontii, the Leviathan Host, possibly the Symphonius Disciples) for Emps to really push the buttons in an attempt to clean his legions up.

So, yeah, Nikaea could happen prior to ullanor, and then something like the Steel Souls or the Golden Mountains disregarding the decree in order to save their lives at Ullanor actually triggers the censure.

Ullanor or any similar campaign is a very useful keypoint in the timeline of the plot. Up to that point we have a good timewindow to fill with all legions and primarchs meeting eachother, forging friendships and establishing rivalries if not outright hostilities. Also from the moment of that campaign's completion onward we can actually declare the great crusade where the legions splinter off in their respective expedition tendrils.
>>
>>53377944
Nikea has to be before Ullanor because the Emperor is put in critical condition at Ullanor. He won't recover until the war has begun, by which point it is too late.

>>53377946
Good point. It may be that Assur tells Gregoire to shut up and sit down because justice must be served and then Je'Sha basically unleashes the wolves and destroys the world and Assur is like 'whoa', not cool.

>>53378019
I like #2 or Golden Throne. #3 could work too, but I think we want the Astronomicon.

>>53378120
That would be perfect, actually. Gets shit started immediately and provides a good way for legions to take sides, particularly if the legions to be censured call for help.

So at first, then, we have the:
"Uphold the Emperor's Law"
"You can't just do that without talking it over"
And the "Stop fighting, you idiots"
Factions.

Though it occurs to me that if the Gold Mountains are one of the legions to be censured, then we may want it to be Assur ordering their censure, since they end up loyal and supporting Je'Sha. Gregoire would still make the argument that Assur can't do that without talking it over, and then Je'Sha would be the one who thinks oathbreakers need to be punished but Assur has gone way too far.
>>
>>53378425
Ashur actually calling a censure would make sense for him being an anti-psyker but at the same time Ashur is the one who wants to be friends with everyone whether they like it or not, and I'm pretty sure he and Pacha would be among best buddies because Pacha makes food and Ashur loves food and both legions are pretty much "we're doing this for the common man". It would have to be against a psyker legion with whom Ashur is already on bad footing, unless it is that Ashur calls for a censure after much consideration and then gets pissed because the actually censuring legion wrecks the censured legion when Ashur expected just a slap on the wrist.
>>
>>53377309
If you guys don't like that one I had another idea: Mot Hadad sponsors industry on each planet he conquers, up to and including establishing the infrastructure to construct knight titans that fall under his command. The knights' pilots are descended from a knight house that was located on Zharr-Naggrund and are taking advantage of the great crusade to spread their lineage across the stars. The Emperor hears of this practice and tells Mot to knock it off to avoid pissing off the mechanicus, and Mot refuses or does something that results in his censure where he fights another legion and retreats into the Eye.
>>
>>53378425
>So at first, then, we have the:
>"Uphold the Emperor's Law"
>"You can't just do that without talking it over"
>And the "Stop fighting, you idiots"
Factions.

Building off this I sort of see the Separatists also sort of having the internal logic of: We are born of the Primarchs, who are in turn were born of the Emperor; Therefore we are the rightful heirs to the Imperium, We are the ones who should rule.Humanity does not have the Scope or endurance to lead itself.
>>
>>53378653
I don't think you should be trying to take Mot to a level where he becomes 'that other traitor'. Just have him throw in his lot with the other traitors. Things are already muddled enough with the three factions alone.

You can keep the bits of him sponsoring industry and even placing representitives from Knight Houses that are loyal to him on them. That's actually kind of neat.
>>
>>53378597
This sounds good. It really drives home how incredibly divided the Imperium is without the Emperor, if this is all happening after he gets removed from the picture that is
>>
>>53378745
Okay. Maybe the Emperor telling him to stop his knight meddling sendsend him into the arms of the chaos traitors where he finds Hashut somehow.

I think we should call the Traitors faction something else, because the separatists are technically traitors as well.
>>
>>53378597
Hmm. I think we may need to wait for Je'Sha, Pacha, and Emil. Might be worth asking if there's anyone Aššur doesn't like.

Can definitely see the Disciples going way too far.

Oh, maybe Je'Sha sics them on Emil, Gregoire intervenes, but Aššur sides with Je'Sha on this one. Then Je'Sha unleashes the Disciples. Gregoire intervenes and chased them off, Je'Sha is pissed, Aššur feels used by Je'Sha.

Aššur is trying to limit the conflict breaking out between Gregoire and Je'Sha and their supporters, but he is handled by his legion and he gets chaos'd?

Actually make it Je'Sha censuring the Soaring Host, with Aššur defending them, and Gregoire trying to talk them down. Things escalate, though and before you know it, Aššur and friends are fighting Je'Sha and his radicals and Gregoire says fuck it, I'm going to rule this. Also doesn't help that some of his buddies are fighting the Disciples and the like.

When the Emperor wakes up, Aššur has been chaos'd, Gregoire has gone too far, and Je'Sha is holding the area around Terra and says that he was just trying to uphold order.

Just a few ideas.
>>
>>53378597
Aye, sounds good, but which Legion does the censuring? We should also consider matchup because the Golden Mountains aren't going to get attacked without fighting back, especially if they thought they were doing the correct thing.
>>
>>53378914
It was suggested before that Raj and Linares take on the roles of executioners together. I'm alright with that myself.
>>
>>53371919
When do you intend to actually collate all this and start putting it onto 1d4chan along with all the other Alt-Heresies?
>>
>>53378892
Makes sense, and I agres, though they'll do for now, seeing as everyone knows who we're talking about.

>>53378963
We'll get to it eventually. We're documenting all the important stuff and we're actively archiving our threads.
>>
>>53378953
Problem with that is that they end up on the same side as the Golden Mountains. I think the censured legion should be a different faction from the one doing the censure.
>>
>>53378986
Fair enough. Linares and Raj could enact censure on the Chosen of Hecate? Not sure if that's still gonna be happening.
>>
>>53379010
Alternatively, the Smoke Stalkers are the ones sent, given the intent of a 'slap on the wrist' against Pacha, but something goes wrong with the toxins (either too strong and Golden Mountains start dying, or not strong enough and Isehko has to employ lethal attacks), and the battle gets rather messy, with the Golden Mountains being unaccustomed to fight with 0 visibility, even their close-combat formations get at a disadvantage. Add the mist in to cause confusion, particularly on how many Golden Mountains are getting felled, and Isehko has made a butchery by the time he realizes.
>>
Wait a second, I think I missed something. Last I heard we had decided that, since we have so many psychic primarchs, either the edict was completely different or it was about technology instead of psychery.
>>
>>53379289
As much as I would love to write a good old fight between brothers. Why would the smoke stalkers be chosen to do it, why not any other legion?
>>
>>53379466
Smoke Stalkers use nonlethal toxins and take the largest amount of enemies alive. As per >>53378597 Ashur wanted it to be a 'slap on the wrist', thus thinking that having the Golden Mountains taken down nonlethally is the best course of action. Things go wrong with the poison and a real fight erupts.
>>
>>53379293
Interesting. If it's not about psykers, then we can have the edict violation involved in sparking the war be about something else, so long as we have an issue that leads to someone declaring censure without the support of the other two triumvirs.

>>53379289
That could work quite nicely. The accidental nature of it adds a lot in my opinion.

Perhaps Je'Sha is furious and orders a retaliatory censure of the Chosen of Hecate, rebuffing Ashur's attempts to explain that it was an accident.
Things escalate from there until Gregoire comes in and says that they've lost their right to be Triumvirs because of their childish behavior. His rhetoric carries a number of primarchs (the separatists), but it causes more problems and makes a two way war into a massive three way succession conflict.

>>53379466
Fair point. Advantage though is that it's a legion that's not got to later be on the same side as the Mountains. I'd also surmise that they're close with Ashur and he feels that he can trust Isekho?
>>
>>53379526
>>53379532

Sounds like that could work. Let's wait and see how others feel about this.
>>
>>53379714
Hm, or maybe, the Smoke Stalkers don't notice the poison killing the Mountains until it's too late? Isehko approaches Pacha telling him to stand down so this mockery can be ended (given Isehko and the Stalkers' enhanced senses, meaning better taste, the two Legions might've been buddies until then), but Pacha looks at him and roars about how it can be a mockery when a sizeable portion of his marines are dead (Pacha knowing through either comms or his psyker powers making him feel the death throes of his children). Isehko realizes what he's just done and retreats with his legion, while Pacha is left grieving.

Brotherhood of the Abyss stuff
(All names provisional)
Special Formations:

The Nosferatae:
Drawn from experienced marines shown to be able to control the call of the deep, the Nosferatae are cold and analytic killers. Quiet and withdrawn even in their introverted legion, the Nosferatae specialize in stealth and ambush tactics. Depending on the disposition of the Nosferatu, the squad may be equipped with any number of esoteric weapons, ranging from cortex-slaved hunter-killer servitors or thallax, to radiological weaponry, to audae shrikes designed to disorient an enemy, to electro-magnetic sniper rifles.
Whatever weapon the squad chooses, the Nosferatae may stalk their intended target for days before finding the perfect moment to deal the death blow.

Tide Breakers: Night Breakers?
Heavy assault troops armed with massive thunder hammers and specially trained in the ways of fighting the biggest xenos monstrosities and war engines.

Revenant Terminators
The legion's elite terminators, armed with rad missile launchers and the like. There's probably some cool other stuff they could be using, but the idea is that Gyahdred has really tinkered with them and come up with something really nasty. They're sort of like his Gorgons.

The Techmarine Brotherhoods
They have some initiation into various arcana and so bring additional goodies from the forge. Legion inducted cybernetica are more common, for example. Atm, I can think of:
Reductor-- Like mini-siege breakers and bring field artillery
Cybernetica--Bring the robot hawtness
Macrotek-- Specialize in improving fortifications
Biologos-- Work closely with and are merged with the Apothecarion. They recover xenos samples for study, design toxins, etc, help make specialist ammo and chem-shells

The Decurion is still going to be a factor, strategic advisors drawn from all ranks, experts in their field
>>
>>53379771
I like it, but how do we explain the mix up?

>>53380081
Other stuff:

I'm thinking Gyahdred is something of a ghoulish figure, akin to a teched up Moritarion. Probably a huge Thunderhammer, since the scythe is taken. Alternatively talons like on Cataphractii armor with drills, like Tyberos.

He's got servo arms, kind of like a many armed deity.

Legion Axuliae are mostly raised in the style of Skitarii forces, with the vast majority undergoing similar augmentation. The magi of Stovokor campaign alongside the legion, but beyond that many worlds that tithe to the legion also are raised as Skitarii regiments as opposed to any other form. Cybernetica cohorts are also closely deployed.
>>
I have three snap-fit chaos marines that I just primed, and I'm going to paint them up to be Forge Lords. Does anyone know a good way to paint bronze?

For any who didn't see I wrote up Lambach's reason for being censured but couldn't get it to paste properly yesterday.

Angered by his father's decision (this can be changed based on what we decide for Nikeea) Lambach halted his wing of the crusade and bought all tendrils of his legion back to Milentus. Ridding the Chosen of Hecate of their psykic presence would be no small task considering how deeply ingrained they were in the Legion's dynamics.
Lambach still could not understand his father's choices. He had always believed his father saw the future laid out the same way that he, himself did. That the gifted would pave the way for peaceful times to come after the great crusade. That psykics were the next logical, evolutionary step for mankind.
Lambach thought long and hard about how he would break the news of Nikeea to his sons. He loved them dearly and railed against seeing them go to waste. As the last of his legion returned to Miletus Lambach made his decision. He gathered every gifted son of the Chosen and formed them into a single chapter. Known as the Speartip of Hecate. The Speartip would be the first deployed on any new world, they would not be stopped from using their powers but eventually their numbers would grind down and they would be remembered as heros of the legion.
Gaius Mendel was given the title of Grand Warpclaw of this newly formed chapter and while many of the Librarians raged against this reform Gaius knew that the hands of his master were tied, this option would at least let the gifted sons of the Chosen end their service in glory rather than living the rest of their lives as blind and deaf men.
>>
>>53380854
Lambach thrust the Speartip deep and the Chosen of Hecate pushed deeper into the fringes of known space than ever before, ignoring any hails from his brothers, even those he closest to him like Linares and Raj. World after world fell to the mighty push of the Chosen, world after world claimed more and more of the brothers of the Speartip. Each loss stabbed at Lambach, slowly stripping away his once cheerful and pleasant demeanor and replacing it with sadness and spite. How could the Emperor have done this to his loyal sons. Lambach thirsted for the truth behind the question.
Night after tireless night he spent researching documents from ancient history trying desperately to see his father's point of view, and a reason for why he was forced to sacrifice his favored sons to the delusions of some of his more narrow minded brothers. It was during this time Lambach learned that perhaps not all of the gods from ancient times were fanciful stories...
Eventually the Speartip was worn down to little more than a few dozen Librarians, Gaius still leading. The Grand Warpclaw had changed drastically from the man he once was. His armour was dented and scratched deeply, his hair was unkempt and his face was gaunt. But it was the look in the eyes of one of his favorite son that haunted Lambach.
>>
>>53380880
It was on some dank rock of a planet, the name of which is lost to time that Radcliff Kaden fell. The occupants of the planet unleashed creatures upon the chosen. Creatures born of warp energy, that normal boltguns had little effect on. The few Remaining members of the Speartip were able to devastate these creatures, but they had become too few to contend properly. Lambach knew that at full strength his sons could have easily crushed this fortress but with his gifted sons so diminished he was sure to lose to many of his men. The Chosen of Hecate were forced to withdraw. However Kaden, his command squad and a pair of Venerable Dreadnaughts had become separated from the main body of the legion and while they fought valiantly they were eventually overrun, hacked down one by one. The last man standing, Kaden faced down a true monster dragged forth from the depths of the warp, his shield arm already shattered and useless. Radcliff Kaden, one of the greatest warriors in the history of the chapter was felled in a monstrously one sided duel.
The bodies of Kaden and his men were sent back to the Chosens base camp...
>>
>>53380849
Just plate them in real bronze. It also adds weight to them.
>>
>>53380901
They had been hollowed out all of their advanced organs and precious Geneseed had been removed the bodies filled with live insects, rats and all manner of vermin. This was the last straw. Lambach, distraught of the loss of his closest invoked a spell he had learned during his studies of the ancient texts. A spell from the forbidden lore of the Goddess Hecate herself a spell of rebirth. This was a spell that made use of vile magics, locked away in older times for very good reason. the bodies of Kaden and his men did indeed rise again and initially Lambach rejoiced, this was short lived. Kaden and his men were mindless, husks of themselves that immediately attacked their former brothers clawing their armour and trying to bite their flesh. Lambach realized that with a brush of his will he could control the awful creations he'd made and could calm them and direct their actions.
This was not the only repercussions of the spell that Lambach had wrought, it sent a shriek through the warp, and many ancient beings turned their attentions towards the master of undeath... However The Emperor of Mankind also took note, and realised that his son had made a horrible transgression, with a heavy heart he sent a summons to Linares of the Silver Blades and Raj Vokar of the Titan Marchers, Lambachs two closest brothers and friends. They were to track down Lambach Kropor, disable his Legion and bring him back to the palace of Terra.

I'm working on the bit where Raj and Linares come get him now, but I don't think I'll finish before work today, sorry might have to wait until tomorrow as I work night shift and am in Western Australia.
>>
>>53380903
That sounds like something Mot would do, but I'm afraid I don't have that kind of conviction.

Oh nah, if you're going for a more dramatic thing, then go ahead! I think the Heresy isn't really the same without the tragic drama of brotherwar. Which is also why I need to push myself to finish the damn doc so I can start figuring out who Einchurt is buddies with...
>>
Okay, if we're having a Nikaea, let's actually look at how our Nikaea votes go:

>Two pro loyalists, two anti loyalists, two neutral loyalists.
>Three pro traitors, one anti traitor, three neutral traitors.
>One pro separatist, two anti separatists, three neutral separatists.
>Two pro undecideds.

>Eight in favour of librariums, five against librariums, eight neutral towards librariums.

Next question, if Nikaea occurs and it's about librariums, who triggers that conversation? Who incurs the Emperor's wrath instead of Magnus?

Is the outcome really the same? Over half of the legions are either neutral or actually encouraging regarding psykers and librariums. Would this be enough to sway the Emperor to go for a different decision?

We're inventing what happens after Nikaea without actually deciding what happens at our version of Nikaea. What causes it occur, what happens during it and why does that happen during it?
>>
>>53381752
There was a story recently which implied that Nikeea was only ever going to go 1 way, regardless of how much support Magnus got, Psykers were always going to get banned. Mortation was given the job of being the voice against, and it was displayed as a trial in an attempt to appease Magnus but again, the Emperor planned for Nikeea to go the way it did long before he announced it and there was no actual vote.
>>
>>53381844
Lol, that'd be one amusing way to do the Seps, if for some reason all or most of the Seps were psykers, outraged that the Emperor was putting them through a sham trial.
>>
I feel like the Forge Lords are a little bland and I've been trying to give them motivations to mitigate this, but if like some feedback.
>>
>>53382894
*I'd like some feedback
>>
I was thinking, as infantry specialists, perhaps the Ogre Legion invented the Centurion battle armor to provide heavy firepower without resorting to tanks.
>>
>>53382894
Well, you've got the Bronze Age listed as one of your themes.

A huge component of that era was sculpture, since bronze was so much easier to work than stone. You could lean on that and give the Forge Lords an artisan element.

Trade also became a significant element of the human civilization around that time, once there were more than two or three centers of population. You could integrate mercantile elements into the Forge Lords. Marines don't often engage in trading or finances, but hey. When you're your own bodyguard, you might feel good about making all kinds of deals when you have a moment. A few extra bolters and the soldiers to wield them might go a long way in certain halls of power. Might also be a way for the Forge Lords to acquire all manner of exotics for their crafting.

tl;dr, Marine's aren't always fighting. Maybe add some culture to their off hours.
>>
>>53383028
I'm also trying to figure out the biggest weapon I can fit on them. Demolisher cannons are out of the question after brief consideration.
>>
>>53383028
>invented
Discovered, I meant discovered.
>>
>>53383176
Probably some sort of heavy plasma cannon would be the biggest, if you also presume the Centurion stops moving and uses its larger power plant solely to charge the gun.

Of course, it might explode. But such is life in Warhammer 30/40k.
>>
>>53383249
I was thinking a petard mortar.
>>
>>53383294
Ballistics probably won't give you the best bang for your buck on a non-vehicle chassis. Energy guns don't require huge racks of ammo.

Unless you want to tow a munitions trailer or something.
>>
>>53383323
The Centurion literally has a hurricane bolter in its armpits. I think it can carry the ammo for a petard mortar.
>>
>>53383351
Then why did you mention cannon possibilities if you'd already decided, lol. Sure, petards it is.
>>
>>53383399

NO, not the centurion. It will be a new and only-marginally-related-and-not-as-silly-because-it-doesn't-have-munitions-grade-BO battlesuit called... The OGRE.

Imagine a centurion without a hurricane bolter and less wonky proportions.
>>
>>53383132
At one point I was playing around with the idea of Forge Lords selling "non-corrupted" wargear to beleaguered planetary rulers in both Imperial and Separatist space. Merchant marines is a pretty good idea, I'll see what I can do with it.
>>
>>53383443
I really like the idea, not just because it's something that hasn't really been done with space marines before, but also because it both plays into them being Chaos dwarves in space and it gives them depth without necessarily making them not unrepentant douchebags.

It was something I tried really hard to do with the Black Augurs back in the HkH

Sorry, went to sleep. Not sure about the mixup with the venom's potency itself, but when it comes to noticing the marines are dying, I'm not sure if the Smoke Stalkers have sharp enough ears to notice if a set of hearts is still beating. A marine sprawled on the ground dead from poison could very well resemble a paralyzed one.
>>53381426
Because as brought up before, Ashur wanted it to be a slap on the wrist, which rules out bombardment from above (and not counting that Pacha's ships wouldn't stay idle), and in the ground you'd be facing a bigger Legion possibly in its homeground. I asked for the Smoke Stalkers first because their tactics could give them the advantage against Golden Mountains and make it reasonable for them to be the ones sent for said slap in the wrist.
>>
>>53383437

I've got a question for you. What do the Rangda do in your timeline? The Xenorace so nasty the Emperor had to unleash the Void Dragon to defeat them? Are any legions destroyed outright by the Rangda?
>>
>>53385103
From what I'm seeing, the Rangdan Xenocides are yet another attempt at explaining the Lost Legions? The force sent at them in this AU should be larger than in the OU, that way we could explain why the losses aren't as huge and no legion is lost here.
>>
>>53385022

Perhaps since the smoke stalkers have never had to use the toxins on marines, they overestimate their resilience causing an overdose?

Im not sure, kinda makes the smoke stalkers seem incompetent.

Or perhaps the Smoke Stalkers are already corrupted by Slaanesh by then, and use their role as the Emperor's executioners as an excuse to experiment new chemicals on their victims.

Bonding with Silver

In the year 901.M30, shortly after the Great Crusade entered its second century, Raj Vokar’s 113th Exploration fleet was sent by the Emperor to assist the 54th fleet, headed by the Primarch of the Silver Blades; Linares. The Silver Blades were currently engaged in the Zeconis System in the Segmentum Tempestus. The Zeconis system was made compliant and brought into the Imperial fold by the Gunslingers a few short decades ago, but now the system faced a different threat. An Ork WAAAGH! had entered the system and attacked one of the outermost planets; Yaoria. Now the Orks had set their sights set on the system’s primary world; Delporte.

This particular WAAAGH! was a strange one. Reconnaissance and reports from the fighting on Yaoria had indicated that the Ork force was not only massive, but was being lead by a pair of Warbosses who seemed to consider each other brothers, Go’Rik Bekbreka and Mo’Rik Bekbreka. Linares had considered taking on the WAAAGH! alone, but was dissuaded from that decision by one of his most trusted advisors. As such, Linares ordered his astropath to make contact with the 1st Expeditionary fleet and request the Emperor to send one of the Primarchs nearby to aid the Silver Blades.

The order was sent to the 113th Exploration fleet. Raj gladly accepted the orders, though he was a bit weary. His first meeting with Linares had been positive enough, the two had shared a drink and spoken freely of their homeworlds, but Raj did not feel a particularly deep connection with his brother. Linares’ eternally joyful attitude was mistaken by Raj as him being very blasé about the destruction the Legiones Astartes caused, something that did not sit well with the Titan Lord. Since then, they had only met a handful of times. Even those meetings had not been unpleasant, but a deeper connection had not developed. This time however, would turn out to be different.
>>
By the time the 113th translated into the Zeconis system, the Ork WAAAGH! was already moving towards Delporte. With no time to waste, Raj met with Linares on the Lord of the Ale’s flagship, the Argentan. There was little time for familial matters, the Orks would make planetfall in a matter of days. The two Primarchs planned their defenses and counter-offense with a speed and ingenuity that was only be possible when sons of the Emperor Himself were in the same chamber. Raj was positively surprised, Linares could be much more serious than he took him for, though the Master of the IVth would occasionally still show his sarcastic wit.

Once the Ork onslaught reached Delporte, they were immediately met with fire from orbital platforms and the combined arms of the 113th and 54th fleets. The Orks that managed to reach the surface were immediately set upon by the Marchers’ Titan Legios and the Silver Blades’ swordmasters. Raj and Linares themselves would take part of a small, but incredibly potent counter offensive, consisting of the Primarchs and their personal guards, boarding the Warbosses’ massive Space Hulk turned Battlekroozer.

The Titan Lord and the Lord of the Ale fought their way through hordes and hordes of greenskins, eventually reaching the pair of Warbosses themselves. Go’Rik Bekbreka was massive, even for a Warboss, with crude mechanical constructions where there arms should have been and an arrangement of spinning blades instead of hands. Mo’Rik Bekbreka was of average size for a Warboss, but his gear was more reminiscent of a Mekboy, with him wielding a huge Shokk Attack Gun and dressed in bizarre and seemingly impractical armor which seemed to be stabbing into him. Brothers faced brothers, as Raj and Linares engaged the pair, while the Primarchs’ honor guards fought off the rest of the greenskins.
>>
Linares engaged Go’Rik in melee combat, as was to be expected of arguably the best swordsman of the Emperor’s sons. Go’Rik proved a terrifying foe, his incredible strength forcing Linares to dodge instead of attempting to parry, and his ferocity forcing Linares to be on the defensive. Meanwhile, Raj engaged Mo’Rik, causing a swarm of gunfire, missiles and plasma to be thrown through the chamber. Raj’s weapons were more refined that the Ork crude contraptions, but the Warboss’ unpredictability proved to be a massive asset.

Go’Rik, still rushing down Linares, eventually attempted to crush the Lord of the Ale beneath him, slamming down unto the floor with both arms. The floor where Linares had been standing had been weakened by Mo’Rik’s stray missiles, which meant that while he managed to catch the blow with the Silver Slayer, the floor gave way beneath them. Go’Rik and Linares fell down to the deck below.

Raj moved from cover to cover and used his shoulder mounted Missile Launchers to destroy Mo’Rik’s cover. Mo’Rik, now exposed and panicked, charged at Raj with Burnas blazing. Raj countered the Mek-Boss’ charge with his own, Storm Shield raised. The two met in the middle, with Raj’s size and weight overpowering Mo’Rik, slamming him into the ground. Raj brought his fist down onto the Mek-Boss’ face and discharged his wrist mounted shotgun, surely killing him. Raj quickly followed after his brother to the decks below.

Linares, after falling crashing through at least three decks, managed to move out of the way before Go’Rik could crush him. After the fall he was able to fight the Warboss on more equal footing, Go’Rik had seemingly injured his leg in the drop. Now that the greenskin was less mobile, Linares began circling him, slicing his arms and legs, joking and insulting the Warboss is his native Kadiran tongue. However, Linares had grown overconfident and missed a backhanded swipe in the corner of his eye. The Primarch was thrown across the room and into a wall. Go’Rik, though injured, roared and charged at him, spinning blades scraping across the floor.

But before the Warboss could reach the injured Linares, a large, cackling, orange ball of energy tore through his chest and left a burning hole. Behind the smouldering greenskin corpse Linares saw Raj, Kagolus in hand, marching towards him to help him off of the ground.

“You’ve done well brother!” Raj said, “Though unfortunate you needed my help in the end.”

The pair laughed, with Linares replying sarcastically, using words Raj did not fully understand, but knew were a friendly insult. Raj swung Linares’ arm over his shoulders, something made slightly more difficult due to Raj’s shoulder cannon and turban, and helped him through the strangely built corridors of the Battlekroozer. The Titan Lord used his armaments to kill Orks from a distance, the Lord of the Ale his sword to kill any that managed to get close.

Before the brother Primarchs could reach the deck where they had boarded, a bright blue light flared up behind them. Before either could fully react, Raj lied down face first on the floor, sparks still flying across his back. Linares managed to keep himself from falling and saw Mo’Rik standing behind them, his face a horrible mess or torn green flesh and exposed skull. The only thing keeping the Mek-Boss moving was his bizarre armor, as by all account the Ork himself should have been long dead.
>>
Linares gripped the hilt of the Silver Slayer and charged at Mo’Rik, weaving underneath his wildly scattering shots. As soon as he was close, Linares swung his sword upwards, cleaving through the Ork and splitting him in half, covering the argent blade in flowing crimson. Linares moved over to his brother.

“That makes us even, Pintamonas.” Linares said as he helped Raj off of the ground.

From there, Linares and Raj made it back to their boarding vessel, most of their personal guards having made it back in one piece. They left the Battlekroozer and returned to Delporte’s surface. The rest of the Ork forces soon scattered, most getting killed while some attempted to flee the system.

The Titan Marchers and Silver Blades bonded over the next few days. The two fleets remained in orbit around long enough for other Imperial Forces to enter the system, and to make sure none of the Ork splinter groups attempted to raid anything else. Raj and Linares finally truly connected as friends, proving that the strongest bonds are forged in battle. During the time they spent together Linares managed to live up to his title as Lord of the Ale, while Raj proved that few could beat him at Regicide. When the two Fleets parted ways to continue the Crusade, the Primarchs promised both each other and their respective legions that the IVth and XVIIth would fight together again soon. Next time however, they would be joined by another brother....

Dunno, Raj is quite ingenious, having been raised on a Forge World and all. He's specifically an expert gunsmith and has designed massive siege weapons. Not to mention that he's officially the Fabricator-General of said Forge World, which means he has the means to produce them.

Other stuff for the XVth:

I'm thinking the reason they go against the librarius is that there's a major disaster during the 3rd Rangdan Xenocide that results in the loss of an entire company. Something resulting from telepathic feedback or the like. This is why their attitude is one of "we just don't understand it well enough to use it on the battlefield." Would also help if a few other legions had similar problems, since I don't see Gyahdred as the sort to try to tell experts in other legions what to do.

Though actually, this gives me a thought. Psyker Primarch anons, your mad scientist brother, the one rumored to lobotomize his own men for discipline infractions and to subjects others to treatments that make them psychopathic killers. He says that's not what it is, and it has something to do with mechanicum rites, but you've talked to Raj and he's never heard of them. And there's the fact that few are as relentlessly logical as Gyahdred. And Gyahdred is known to work closely with magi and sections of the mechanicum that Raj won't even touch.
Anyways, this guy who still is friendly, if distant, contacts you to ask for your archives on psyker abilities. He says he's had some problems lately, but won't specify and what he does say is missing details.

What do?
>>
>>53391537
No man, it looks perfectly fine, you've copied the original perfectly. The problem lies in the fact that the original planets that have lost their importance, but are still on the map. I know there's not much you can do there, but planets like Caliban and Macragge are still on their on the map, cluttering it up, while they have completely lost their importance.
>>
>>53391663
Well, I can vanish them if you like. Not now, just give me time.

Here is what I have so far, I want to make the fight interesting without making Lambach seem to powerful. It's not finished more is coming.

Linares mustered almost the entire Silver Blades Legion to track down his wayward brother, Raj Vokars Titan Marchers were for the most part occupied in other aspects of the Crusade but he did manage to pull together two companies with which to assist the Silver Blades. A formidable force that would easily outclass the understrength Chosen of Hecate if it came to a fight. Something that both Primarchs deeply wished to avoid.Whatever actions Lambach had taken to earn their Fathers anger they both loved their brother and both would stand in his defense if the Emperor allowed a trial.
The combined fleet found the Chosen had returned to their homeworld of Miletus. Approaching cautiously Linares and Raj noticed that the Chosen of Hecate fleet did not move to challenge them. The Silver Blades flagship the "Argentan" hailed the Chosen's flagship "Starburst". The response from the "Starbursts" captain informed both Primarchs that Lord Kropor was waiting for his brothers in Miletus' capital palace and they were encouraged to make planet fall.
Raj and Linares were both confused, surely Lambach knew why they were here, both decided that perhaps their good natured brother had decided to come quietly and get all this mess put behind them, in an effort to return to his Legion. They could not have been more wrong...
On the planet's surface the Chosen were arranged in full force, the Legions impressive array of Dreadnaughts standing in support of the ranks of marines and transports. The numerically superior Silver Blades and the Titan Marchers faced off against their Legion cousins. Friends greeting friends from amid the ranks. Lambach waited for his brothers upon the raised dais in the city centre with his two most trusted sons Gaius Mendel and Radcliff Kaden.
>>
>>53400617
As they climbed the stairs Linares and Raj exchanged worried glances, their brother looked different. His normally short, shaggy brown hair was now long and lank and his eyes. Once so full of warmth and friendship were now sunken and filled with sorrow and remorse. As they reached the top Lambach smiled and threw his arms wide.
"Brothers, it warms my heart to see you again, though coming with such a mighty display of force? To what do I owe the Pleasure?"
"Lambach," Raj began "Father has sent us to bid you return to the palace of Terra, your men are to stand down".
"Father..." Lambach seemed to consider the word for a time turning his back on Linares and Raj. "The man thinks he knows what is best for everyone, but how many more of my sons must be sacrificed to his lies and arrogance?"
"Watch, your fucking mouth Kropor" Linares spoke "This doesn't have to come to a fight, you know from experience that you do not stand a chance against me, come see Father, Raj and I will talk with him on your behalf, whatever the issue is it can surely be resolved".
"You don't see it Linares, Father has lied to you too, to all of us. The question I can't figure out is why? I implore you brothers, join with me, ask our father why? Why hide from us ancient beings whose powers we have only one defense against, and most importantly why forbid us from using this defense?"
"What are you suggesting Lambach, be very careful the words you chose next" Raj warned readying his array of weaponry while Linares drew the famed Silver Slayer. Taking que from their lords the marines of the Silver Blades and the Titan Marchers aimed their bolters.
Lambach took his weapon (spear made by Gyadread) from the immobile Kaden while Mendel began to chant. "Our Father" Lambach spat the word "took my sons from me, now one way or another I will take his from him, though I do not wish to harm either of you I cannot allow you to stand in my way".
>>
>>53400628
Lambach hurled a wave of sheer psykic force at Raj blowing him back down the steps while Linares lept forward in an attempt to disable Lambach and end things before they got further out of hand. The legionaries of both side, unsure of what to do stood awestruck at first but swiftly moved to engage. The Chosen of Hecate could not hope to win this fight but still a bloody toll was being exacted on both sides.
In all the years they had fought side by side Lambach had never once bested Linares in a duel, while Lambach was formidable opponent, Linares was possibly the best swordsman among the brotherhood of Primarchs. This time however Linares noticed something different. A sword stroke that should have connected simply passed through Lambachs unguarded chest and a spear thrust that Linares should have parried with ease somehow penetrated his guard and stabbed down through his calf. Lambach laughed, "It feels good to finally fight with you without holding back brother, come show me what passes for fury amongst your misbegotten kind and let me give you a lesson in humility". Linares response was short and simple "Fuck off".
>>
>>53400650
As the duel continued Raj regained the top of the stairs, he noticed that Mendel had finished chanting and was now throwing waves of warp energy into the Silver Blades marines at the base of the dias. More of a worry though was Radcliff Kaden, the man whom Raj had grown to respect over the years spasmed violently. His body contorted and armour split, but despite how much obvious pain the first captain must have been in he did not make a sound. Just the sickening pop of bones and ripping of flesh. From Kadens husk burst an enormous beast that had the appearance of a man but with a rat like head and claws as long as Raj was tall, a sinister tail whipped back and forth behind the creature as it turned it's head to face the Turban clad Lord of Titans. The creature that was once Kaden broke into a run, it's path headed directly for Raj who bought his multitude of ranged weaponry to bear. The only thought going through his mind, what has Kropor done...

>The Spear
Definitely. I'll think about what Gyahdred would do to spiff it up, but one thing he might do with it is build a gun into it. Thing would look kind of like the Spear of Asterion Moloch from Forgeworld.
Another option is some sort of elemental lance. What kind of powers does Lambach tend to use? Something to complement his personal theme. The simplest thing to do, I think, would be to line the shaft with a psycho-conductive material.

>Re: Gyahdred's request
Interesting. It occurs to me that he might actually take him up on that one if they were close, particularly since there are no lost legions. Heck, at that point, he may just ask dad.

>>53391653
I'm thinking >>53373670 happens during the first or second one, probably the second, as a revenge for being such a nuisance before.
In light of this, I could see Gyahdred going to the Emperor about it, particularly since the Emperor hasn't purged any legions in this timeline. I'm thinking he basically tells Gyahdred to keep it quiet and to be careful, but not to worry, with that same sort of attitude he had about the Spess Wolves wolfing out. The emperor shrugs. Gyahdred had always been meant to fight the big xenos horrors anyways. Now Gyahdred would request those duties. JUST AS PLANNED.
Then, during the third war, something goes horrifically wrong with a psyker assault Gyahdred had attempted. Perhaps something like using psyker abilities to fog up the minds of the Rangdan Xenos, but it backfires and results in mass perils of the warp and the loss of an entire company and widespread Elver curse.
Gyahdred is like "oh shit, I didn't even know that could happen. I'mma figure out what happened and then how to avoid it. And while I'm at it figure out what caused this Elver curse."
>>
>>53400762
cool, we could even have it that Gyahdred gives Lambach the spear as a way of thanking him for the help?
As to Lambachs fighting style he favors the spear because it offers what he sees as perfect balance of defense and offense. I like both your ideas though. Keep me posted.
>>
>>53400848
That would be pretty cool. Depending on how things go down, it might be a major factor in getting Gyahdred to attack some of the loyalists, though I think if Linares was carrying out the attack, he'd infer that Lambach really had done something horrific to deserve it, as opposed to someone like Yochin.

Alternatively, Lambach might try to get Gyahdred to join up with Chaos, claiming to have found a cure for the curse. We can figure out what happens later, but something goes wrong for Lambach and Gyahdred does something drastic. Later, maybe there's a siege of Ryamtscho and/or Stovokor, though I'd really like to get in a major battle with each of the mechanicum aligned dudes as well.
Also anyone look at the fluff I put up on the doc?

That will happen when your parent star is stolen by a Warp Storm, your planet is cast adrift into the cosmos to go cold and dark, rogue psykers murder half your people, your remaining people retreat into a handful of surviving Hive Cities, and the planet is cut off from all human civilization by lingering Warp-residue, leaving them little to do but remember how the Warp nearly destroyed them and use what tools are still available to learn how to safely channel and bind their psykers so they don't go explodey again.

"Baphomek" pattern power armor
This armor is designed with special warp runes on the inside that facilitate easier binding of daemons directly into the armor. Effects vary, from a fully autonomous suit to one that is more resistant to certain types of damage. Some suits seem to have open malice towards their crafters, but for the Forge Lords, the benefits far outweigh the risks.

Lorgar and the Word Bearers worship chaos in and of itself and discourage becoming drawn to one god in specific, is that what you're talking about?

I was asking for the Leviathan Host. I was thinking of having them, post-Heresy, grow to have some amount of contempt for the gods and their worshippers as individuals. Kinda Chaos hipsters if you will, "that's not real chaos, you have to go deeper to get to that".

I'm just spitballing ideas of how they could conceivably worship Chaos as a whole as one entity, rather than a pantheon of seperate ones.

Awesome, let's see where this takes us. If people refer to Segmentum Borders in regards to the location of their homeworld, you could just cross-reference this map with one that does have them.

I'm liking it! The only thing that really puts me off Linares actually saying fuck. That doesn't feel right. When people do swear in the novels, it's something made up, like 'feth', 'frekk' or 'zog'. Especially with Linares, it seems more sense for him to use curse words from his homeworld.

Good stuff otherwise!

>Linares and Raj get together again
>One of them falls from a considerable height
This has to stop.

>>53401416
Looks pretty good bruv. Though the cyan gives the impression the armor is copper instead of bronze. But hey, for your first jab at painting, good job.

>>53402796
Sure. In fact, Chaos Undivided Princes are usually my favorites. That's because there's a lot more cool shit you can do with them than rage demons, snake fuckers, fat bastards and birbs.

>>53402920
Interesting, pretty neat. Like >>53402846 said, the Word Bearers worship Chaos as one entity, so it's possible. Just wondering, what are the Leviathan Host's thoughts on other warp entities, like Hashut and Malal?

>>53403506

Yeah I'm not a big fan of writing the swears in to be honest. But it isn't my character or my call to make. So if I am going to use him I have to use him as intended. I think I'm still dialing it back a fair bit though.
>>
>>53404917
You are, which is good. I'd suggest at the very least replacing the swears with Spanish ones. That's what I did for the little piece I wrote and I think that works way better than Linares actually saying 'fuck'. It kind of takes me out of it.

Did you place this story in the CoH doc?

Yeah that's a good idea, I'll look into that tomorrow.
Yeah it's on there for now but if it needs to be changed at any point I will.

I'm at work though and can't remeber my log in. I'll do it tomorrow morning if you're happy to wait?
Also do you have a character in the standard marines I could use? To notice something is up?
>>
Btw, what is up with the Iron Guard? They're cool and all, but is their anon even still around?

>>53405117
Sure, I can wait. And not yet, maybe I should get to that. Feel free to write one up yourself. The Marchers use regular ranks (Marine/Sergeant/Captain/Chapter Master) and their names are either Indian or Turkish.
>>
>>53402920
Does that mean they would be opposed to taking marks of chaos from individual gods, or would they be okay with their marines having the marks of certain gods so long as they also worship the other three, perhaps seeing the usage gifts from individual elements of Chaos as a way further the plans of Chaos as a whole?

Hey mate, I got the misus to fix the CoH document to allow editing. So be my guest to fix up anything you'd like to fix.

I only have one of the separatist nations down but got the Eye of Terror and the Imperium I added major worlds for the factions seen to give an idea of how much stuff they control and while it

-Chaos having the Eye is a major Boost to their capabilities so while theyre small they can hold what they have.

-The Imperium is in control of the old Core worlds from the DAOT which helps them hold the line between The Heretics Separatists and all manner of Xeno's

-The Separatists have control of many lightly settled worlds on the eastern half of the galaxy far away from the Imperium's core making it easier for them to hold out since taking all that back in the middle of a three way war is quite hard.

Titans and Candlelight

When Lambach Kropor was reunited with his VIIIth legion, it’s numbers had been dwindled to a point where it could no longer join the Great Crusade on its own. The Chosen of Hecate were sent along with Linares’ Silver Blades in order for them to regain their strength and for Lambach to be properly introduced to the art of warfare.

Raj and Lambach had never met during this time. Due to the VIIIth legion , known as the Warp Claws back then, being reassigned to join with the Silver Blades, holes were left on the frontlines of the Great Crusade in the Galactic East. The Titan Marchers were ordered to fill up these holes, resulting in one of the few times the XVIIth campaigned completely on their own.
Several years later, once the Chosen of Hecate were considered to be ready to resume their Crusading, Raj finally got the chance to meet Lambach.

Their first meeting aboard the flagship of the Raj’s 113th fleet, Moonbreaker, was one of congeniality. Lambach had been sent to meet with Raj so that the Titan Lord could explain the different theaters of war the Titan Marchers were engaged in on the Eastern Front to the Master of the VIIIth. They met on the strategy chambers of the Moonbreaker. Compared to Raj, Lambach was a much more plain figure, for a Primarch at least. His stone grey eyes, pale skin, shaggy brown hair and bleached bone colored armor told you everything you needed to know about the calm and contemplative Primarch. Raj on the other hand was a far more striking figure, with his blue and orange armor, wide array of armaments and the massive turban on his head, decorated with sigils like the Imperial Aquila, the Adeptus Mechanicus’ skull, the Collegia Titanica’s T and the Titan Marcher’s own legion badge.
>>
Lambach and Raj found kindred spirits in each other. The pair spoke at length about personal matters, such as their legions, homeworlds and brothers. Raj expressed joy at knowing that Lambach and Linares had gotten along as well as he had hoped. They truly connected over their similar approaches to tactics and strategy, both preferring to take the time to formulate the best possible solution in order to guarantee the most beneficial outcome. Their conversation became more serious when they discussed their personal approaches to combat, specifically Lambach’s use of Psychic powers. Raj himself was no Psyker, in fact, until he met the Emperor, Raj had never even seen a Psyker. Somehow, during the Age of Strife, Psykers had completely vanished from Manaan. This was why the space vessels the Raatan nobility possessed could not viably travel out of system: Manaan did not have Navigators.

Once Raj discovered the existence of Psykers, he was conflicted. His father explained the dangers Psychic powers to him, especially when used by those inexperienced with them. On the other hand, Raj understood their value as a powerful weapon. He had seen some of his brothers and their sons wield them responsibly, not to mention that their father was the greatest psyker humanity had ever known. Lambach explained the way he personally applied his Psychic powers. Lambach was not a complete sorcerer, but instead used them in addition to his martial abilities. This meant that instead of throwing lightning across the battlefield, Lambach preferred to infuse his weapon, the Protean Spear, with Psychic force to tear through his enemies using the power of the Warp.
>>
Lambach would have a large impact on Raj’s opinion on Psykers. While Raj would never fully trust the powers the Warp could bestow, his brother showed him the wide variety of applications Psychic powers could have and convinced the Titan Lord of the necessity of its study. Though other events would still result in Raj voting against the use of Psychic powers by Astartes in combat at the Council of Nikaea, Lambach’s impact on Raj should not be understated.

Lambach and Raj’s closest soldiers also got along quite well. Raj’s first captain, Taarush Amin, quickly formed a connection with the first captain of the Chosen of Hecate, Radcliff Kaden. Kaden was an oddity amongst the Chosen, as he lacked any Psychic abilities. Taarush was a techmarine and one of the oldest Astartes in the XVIIth, nearing two centuries. He had been vital in reorganizing both his legion and the Titanicus in order for the two to work together as they do. Taarush was also a brilliant engineer, designing and overseeing the construction of several parts of the Titan Lord’s magnum opus, the Apocalypse-class Titan Apocalyptican, one of only two in existence and the only one not on Mars.

Taarush and Kaden were too completely different men, yet they found friends in one another. Kaden was a warrior first and second, whereas Taarush’s true passion lied in his mechanical crafts, yet they had found themselves in similar positions. Both were part of their legion’s old guard, having joined during the first wave of recruitment. They rose through the ranks of their respective legions quickly, until finally they became trusted advisors and companions of their Primarchs.
>>
To end off their days of pleasantries, Raj and Lambach played several games of Regicide. The two went head to head, both so focussed and quiet that one could hear the footsteps of a Vindicare assassin. While Raj does not gladly admit it, Lambach proved to be one of the few opponents he was never able to beat consistently. For every game Raj managed to win, his brother managed to win two.

The two legions prepared to part ways shortly thereafter. Both the Primarchs and the legions expressed sadness that they would not get the chance to fight together, but surely that day would come.

And indeed that day did come, albeit sooner than either Primarch expected...

>>53407246
I'm thinking of having Raj craft a sidearm for Lambach, to go along with the spear crafted by Gyadred. What would be a good fiit for him?

Azezoth Warp Borer

Developed after the securing of Prospero, the Azezoth Warp Borer is a radical meshing of Psyker Knowledge and Mechanicum Engineering; Resulting in a “Rapid Deployment Warp-Accelerant”. Discovering a ruined Webway portal on the planet during its surveying, The Brotherhood of the Abyss were quick to disassemble and attempt to learn from the xenotech. It would be over the following decades that the XV would learn that the material was Psycho Reactive and even further study would lead to the psykers of Prospero to even open the portal. Though initial activation seemed to show that the portion of the webway was not connected to the grid, use would be found for this breakthrough.

That breakthrough would become known as Azezoth.

Using the original gate to grow more wraithbone the mechanicus in the year M35 managed to create a secondary drive that Could; when the warp drive was activated, generate a “bore” through the warp. Working similarly to the principal of a gellar field, the Azezoth is capable of projecting a webway ‘tunnel’ ahead of the ship. Due to the nature of the webway, the tunnel cuts through the warp, allowing a warp-capable ship to do “blind” jumps in the warp without being subject to the changing currents. The downside however is that a strong psyker is required to maintain the Azezoth so long as it is active. Should the psyker in question fail, the field will immediately disperse and land the ship directly into the warp without any idea of where or when it is.

Healing the wounds

The disaster at Retuh's Compliance left the IVth Legion severely crippled. It took 10 years to recover some fighting capability, but the Legion still couldn't hold a front on his own. While they were not even half recovered, the Emperor sent the Silver Blades along the Chosen Of Hecate, in pretty much the same situation, to fight at the galactic east. There, both Primarchs had the chance to meet each other for the first time. Lambach saw in Linares the strength and martial skills of a true warrior, while Linares saw in Lambach the knowledge, power and patience of a true wise man.

They were polar opposites. Not that Linares was idiotic. Not that Lambach was weak. They saw in each other the opportunity to learn, and that was the first thing that united them.
>>
>>53402581
Legit.

>>53402215
"Smeg you too, Emil," Gyahdred muttered to himself. Clearly, if he wanted results he would have to risk sharing with Lambach. A risk, but a calculated one. Lambach had always seemed the friendly sort and in the worst event, he could doubtlessly find some way of ensuring Lambach's silence on the matter, either through secrets or cooperation. Perhaps those riots on Prospero could be turned to his advantage...

(Idea here is that Gyahdred never bets on anything he hasn't rigged. He doesn't know Lambach. Lambach seems alright, but it's better to have a back up in case Lambach tries to stab him in the back. As it happens Lambach is exactly as decent a guy as it seems and Gyahdred happily reciprocates.)
>>
At first, the eternal joyful character of Linares gave serious doubts to Lambach about his true self, but time proved that his true self was as exposed as a ship with the Gellar fields down while navigating the warp.
Lambach was a lot more reserved, giving the impression that he didn't want to be friend of Linares, but again, time would prove that it wasn't true. The pair spent a lot of time together: Lambach taught the warp's nature and it's uses to Linares, finding out that, despite Linares being a warrior for nature, he was pretty aware of the pros and cons of developing psychic abilities, and allowed the existence of psykers both in his Legion and in his planet.

A certain day, on the Argentean (just sounds better, sorry), after diner, both Primarchs were enjoying the silence and tranquility of sitting besides a fire, in a private lounge aboard the ship. Linares was drinking beer, while Lambach was eating some grapes.

"Brother", said suddenly Linares, disturbing the silence, "do you even know how to fight?"
"Of course, brother, I have been slightly taught."
"I don't think so, dude" said Linares, smiling slightly.
"I'll prove you wrong, stand up!"
>>
>>53408621
>dude
You write well, but it just doesn't seem like the way Primarchs talk. He's casual, but he should sound more regal and imposing, with more gravitas.
>>
Lambach stood up, fists raised. Linares accepted the challenge, confident of his chances to win.

No power armor, just cloth between one Primarch's bare fists and the other's body.

Lambach found himself against a giant, Linares was taller than the rest of the Primarchs. Lambach would need his best moves against him, maybe a psychic wave or two, to have some chance of winning.

Lambach strike first, a fast, right hand punch to the ribcage, followed by a left hand one to the face. Linares dodged the first, and parried the second, destabilizing Lambach, and landed a punch in his stomach. The punchs exchange continued for a minute or two. After receiving a couple more punchs, Lambach knew that he couldn't best his brother in a brawl, and accepted the defeat.

Linares offered to teach him some fighting basics, thing that Lambach accepted without doubt. They spent the following month training aboard the Argentean, while their Legions prepared the next assault.

Lambach's skills improved quickly, being able to win some fights against Linares' bodyguards, the Inmemoriales, in his second week of training. His weapon of choice was the spear, not very used by the IVth Legion, because its balance between offensive and defensive capabilities. Linares gave one to him. It had a silverish blade, with a strong titanium pole. In the blade, the following was engraved: "To my brother, this should remember him to keep his legs spread and the whole feet touching the ground" Lambach would preserve this spear, even after his turning to chaos, as a reminder of his brothers' affection to him.

At last, the Legions were ready, and the assault was about to be launched. But that's another story.

Worth a thought about how the three techy legions get on. I've been kind of thinking of it as Good, Bad, and Weird, or Standard Admech, Chaos Dwarf Warp shit, and Stuff that's creepy but not warp-fueled.

So the XVth makes use of thallax, charonites, and cybernetica units and is close with some unstable members of Myrmidax and Reductor that I'm thinking Raj finds are a bit off. Both of them probably think Mot's weird.
Or are things different?

In terms of doctrine, I think Gyahdred embraces logic mixed with some stuff out of Tibetan Buddhism that I'll work up. But basically I'm thinking the concept of Omnissiah is there. Sort of. Energy transfers and is transformed and knowledge is a kind of energy, a very potent type. The Omnissiah is the sum total of all knowledge in the universe, incarnated in the countless trillions of lives. People must work towards enlightenment and all that stuff, but the machine canons are just guidelines. Copying blueprints provides insight if you meditate on them. Ideally the goal is understanding because that knowledge leads to enlightenment. This does mean that he wholly rejects the Law of Divine Complexity and the notion of the Omnissiah as creator and distinct from reality. He also rejects the reality of chaos (when he finds out about it). Chaos is illusion, maya, results from clinging to impermanence and the gods themselves are false dichotomy. The Adept of the Mechanicum shatters illusion through the diamond understanding and skillful means, not through machine canon and not through the aid of the gods, be it the malignant chaos gods or the potentially benevolent Emperor.
>>
>>53409500
The Titan Marchers appreciate the Adeptus Mechanicus in a more practical sense.

While they do meditate, their meditation is more a matter of calming one's mind than actually contemplating the designs handed down by the Omnisiah.
The Marchers adhere strictly to the Imperial Creed and thusly do not believe in any sort of divinity. Their relationship with the AdMech is one of great respect, but they do not share their superstitions, though they allow them to perform their rites without looking down on them.

To the Marchers, technology is just that, technology.

It should also be kept in mind that they specifically ally themselves with the Adeptus Titanicus. They do help with the construction of large weaponry and armor, but Titans are their business.
>>
>>53410216
Fucken Hindus man

The Mechanicum are very anal about the treatment of technology. They're less likely to return the Titan Marchers' respect if the Titan Marchers do not honor their rituals.
>>
>>53410216
So is the Magos that raises him similar in beliefs?
I'm taking it that he's closer to a Ferrus Manus with titans?
Does this produce enemies?

(Also worth pointing out that the Magi of Stovokor don't believe that designs are handed down by the Omnissiah, they believe that designs and knowledge are the Omnissiah. As is the mind that comprehends. Everyone has an Omnissiah-nature. They don't worship the omnissiah and look down on slavish devotion to the cult of machine spirit.)

>>53410361
If they're chill about the rituals and the Marcher's artificers are tight with certain magi or world's with certain views, I could see it working decently, though I think there might be some friction with certain factions.

>>53409500

Guys, what about a not—totally—xenocidal Imperium? I mean, when a new xeno species is encountered, this Imperium may try to settle down without just exterminating them. Maybe relegating them to some place of the planet, like an island or something. I know it's pretty Tau, but I think it could be a good way to differ from the OU. Of course, if a species doesn't deserve to live along the Imperium, the xenocide would come
>>
>>53411793

>>
>>53410361
The Marchers are respectful towards the Mechanicus and let them do their things, they just don't really believe it themselves. Like eating dinner with religious people; you let them pray, you don't just start chowing down.

>>53410508
Raj was not raised by magos. Manaan had outed the Machine cult millenia ago, with control falling in the hands of the world's noble class. One of those nobles raised Raj.

He is best compared to Ferrus Manus. Both are inventive and pay their respects to the Mechanicus, but are ultimately independant from them.

Not exactly. It's more like burning a bible in front of your friendly neighborhood priest* and asking if you can be friends.

*Not actually a friendly neighborhood priest. Neighborhood priest is a deranged transhuman who will have a team of cyborgs with dem legs come and destroy you in your sleep.
>>
>>53413545
I don't agree. They allow them to do the rituals they deem necessary and will partake if asked, but the Marchers will not initiate the rites themselves.
>>
>>53411793
That's probably not necessary, and definitely not original.
>>
>>53413613
>They allow them to do the rituals they deem necessary
All of them? Because some Mechanicummies take their duties seriously.

The best solution is have techpriests everywhere in the legion. That, or the Adeptus Mechanicus will have some violent issues with the legion when it's founded. I prefer the latter.
>>
>>53413761
You make a good point. I'll think about how I'll tackle it.
>>
I don't think the Mechanicum would just ignore how the Legion uses their machines. For them, rites are maybe the most important part of working with anything, not doing them is to insult the Omnissiah. You will be facing a hundred battle automata and thousands of Skitarii before realising what you did wrong.

And they weren't even watching

So what if we had a Death Star scenario, except the Empire is the "good" guys and the rebels are the bad guys?

>Sinister-class Battleship
An experimental psi-battleship destroyed by a team of agents and a combined xeno-traitor fleet.

It is mid-M37. For the past millennium, the finests shipwrights of the Adeptus Mechanicus and lead experts of the Ordo Malleus had been designing a weapon that harnessed the power of a thousand psykers: The Sinister-class battleship, a gargantuan vessel that directs psychic energy into an incredibly powerful force. Blessed with exactly 314,159,265,358 runes in its hull, the Sinister-class was meant to purge entire worlds of Chaos, and collapse traitor fleets into space hulks. However, as potent as such a weapon may have been, the ship only saw one combat against a combined Chaos-Xenos fleet, where it was destroyed from the inside by an elite team of dark eldar, gorgomongers, sorcerers, and chaos space marines.

Aaah. Ok. That makes sense.

With regard to the titans the big issue I see is this:
They're literally God-Engines, avatars of the Machine God. There's already Secutarii, who are blessed to be allowed to fight alongside the Titans. So what do the Titan Marchers offer the Mechanicum? (Also what about the lethal energies unleashed during an engine war? Marines die just as quickly from Volcano cannons as do Secutarii.)
If for most forges, even being near a Titan is a holy experience, why would they choose a bunch of heretic and apostate Astartes to protect the Titans?
(This isn't to torpedo your idea, I'm just trying to identify what I see as the key issue. I personally like the Titan Marchers.)

A few solutions I can think of:
1. The Titans they work alongside come from a few specific legions that are really chill and all. Legio Tempestus, Legio Presegius, etc. Noble Warriors less concerned with dogma and more about setting an awesome example for humanity and laying low their foes.

2, The Titans they work with come from a few specific legions that are pretty murderous. Legio Audax, Legio Mortis, Legio Fueans, etc. These forces are there to chew gum and kick ass and are chronically short on gum and so value the lethality of the Astartes over their adherence to doctrine.

3. The Titans they work with are from tiny forges that barely have forces to allocate. Legio Xsterbiax, etc. These forges are happy just to have an ally to help protect and field their titans.

These three are not mutually exclusive. In any event, they would work with a subset of Titan Legions, while many would have nothing to do with them. Over time, they build up strong relationships with their partner Legios...
>>53418338
I definitely could go for that. Might even get us a step closer to that really cool battle we all know is coming where the Titan Marchers fight the Brotherhood of the Abyss. (Name still in progress)
>>
>>53420313
In the above cases, the Titan Marchers wouldn't literally march at the feet of Titans, granting that honor to the secutarii. Rather they pave the way for them, precision strikes to clear the way for the big guns, some of which are from the Legion.

Another few options:
4. The Titans are from a few specific legios that are from forges closely linked to the legion, sort of like Legio Audax and the World Eaters. Raj did those magi some big favors and they are forever indebted and while their beliefs differ, honor pro honor and the Titans are very commonly deployed with the legion to the point where they're effectively of the legion.

5. It's not actually titans all the time. In fact it is only rarely titans. Usually, it's heavy siege equipment like bombards and ordinatii. They're titans, not Titans. This still allows them links to the mechanicum and lets them act as a plodding army of doom.

>>53413761 >>53413613
6. There's also the fact that the Titan Marchers have their own Titan Foundry. I'm not sure to what extent a Raaksha is wholly equivocal to a Titan, but the technologies are kindred. This is a major inducement to Magi to play nice.
I'm thinking its best if Raakshas aren't completely analogous to Titans since it will let them work alongside Titan legions without dishonoring them, by which I mean feeling like they are getting bailed out by another titan legion. It also prevents magi from feeling like things aren't quite "fair". At the same time, them being Titan enough that it shores up Raj's credentials. This would mean that the Titan Marchers fight in close order with their own Raakshas but are far looser with allied Titan Legios. The lure of Raaksha technologies and relics of Maanan would also induce otherwise distant magi to play nice. You'll still have worlds who won't have anything to do with you, but you'll have many more who are willing to fight alongside you and some who work quite closely as per 1, 2, and 3...

>Gog and Magog, Twin Warpriests of the Leviathan Host and Equerries to the Primarch

Gee Marduk! How come the Emperor lets you have two equerries? First Legion Bitch

Terran-born, hailing from the radioactive badlands of Ursh, Gog and Magog were the twin sons of a tribal warlord. Killing their mother in birth, a sign that they were destined to be great warriors among their people, their imposing size and over muscled physiques were evident from a young age. When their father pledged his fealty to the Emperor when Ursh was conquered they were offered as tribute, so long as they would be allowed to become the warriors their destinies foretold. Gog and Magog's father's wish was fulfilled and they were used in the initial siring of the First Legion, though the choice was frankly obvious. Lacking in leadership skills but more than making up for it with almost Ogryn like physiques, they initially served only as tactical marines in the First Company but over the years of the Crusade survived and both rose to the positions of Praetor, through sheer respect and the tactical knowledge earned with centuries of hard fought conflict.

When Marduk finally joined the legion they took to him as if he was their own father. Their respect for him in turn earned him the respect of the legion as a whole, and they became one of the main vectors his Abyssal Faith spread throughout the legion. They served with loyalty and increasing religious fervor as the Crusade waxed and when, late in the Eye of Terror campaign, the Leviathan Host decided to forego the pretense of atheism they became the first two Warpriests. This title would eventually be applied to all the Praetors, now turned into a mix of religious prophet, champion, and battlefield commander.

So I've given up on the large docs and have decided to post the stuff I have piecemeal.

You need to make the Raakshas stand apart from the titans.

For example, titans are semi-humanoid constructs; this makes them a symbol of the holy human form. Raakshas could be strange, esoteric, with more than two arms or two legs, perhaps even placed strangely. There needs not be a standard pattern; each Raaksha could have a unique and bizarre look to it. There could even be a Raaksha that has no limbs, and it moves via A-grav named Vimana. It needs to make princepes shutter, but they can't say shit cuz it ain't a titan, dumb gearfucker.

>Master of the Forge Rtowan
A native of Stovokor inducted into the legion shortly after Gyahdred took command. Specializes in cybernetica. Often accompanied by his familiar, Hel, a uniquely modified hunter-killer unit. Interested in designing an improved manifold for the legion to use. Works closely with ...

>Apothecary Magos Gesar Klagri
Specializes in cerebro-surgery. Originally trained in preparation to become a Magos, he was recruited by the legion instead. Pioneered the techniques used to manage the Curse of the Elver. Involves a device known as the Casket of Magos Klagri.
Also makes legion thallax.

>Apothecary Lachrymerta Uktra Praknetsin
Not sure if this guy is a marine or a Magos, but they specialise in chimeric servitors. Uktra Praknetsin wanders the battlefield, finding odds and ends for his latest creation. He is responsible for many of the Charonites used by the legion.

I'm thinking there's also

>"champion"
Really more of a monster slayer. Has a massive hammer and is increasingly machine.

>Master of the Nosferati [name]
Sneakiest and scariest sumbich in the legion. Went full Elver during a battle, prowled, hunting xenos for a while, and surprisingly got better, which does happen since its like lycanthropy. Underwent surgery to cut out the emotions responsible, but they also got his empathy. Loyal as fuck, though. And really, who better to lead the monsters of the legion? Kind of like a less snarky Alucard in concept.

>First Captain
Not the best at any single thing, a generalist and expert strategist.

>Apophis, Gloriana-Class Battleship and Marduk's Flagship

The Apophis was originally christened as simply "The Gloriana", as it was the first of it's kind, and it's incredibly gilded finery included an enormous eagle on the prow. In the service of the First Legion it fought in hundreds of engagements, slowly tarnishing and losing it's golden luster due to lack of time for non-essential repairs. When Marduk joined his legion, he set about reinforcing their losses and repairing their fleet. The Gloriana was rechristened the Apophis, it's gilding restored (albeit in the style of the Dagonian tradition instead of the Terran), and it's aquiline prow reshaped into the stylized head of a monstrous water-beast.

The ships greatest changes, however, went on inside. While the crew quarters and training areas for the marines were largely unchanged, many of the upper decks were surreptitiously converted into places of worship. The Abyssal Faith was originally only preached in these dark halls, but gradually all the other ships in the Leviathan Host fleet were fitted with smaller versions of their own. On board the Apophis, these temples gradually spread until many of the living areas were also being used for esoteric and sometimes terrifying rituals.

After years of having gone unseen by the wider Imperium crusading near the Eye, the Apophis' return at the outset of the Heresy was a profound shock. The ship had expanded to almost twice times it's original size and moreover had apparently become a living thing in it's own right. The possessed daemonship Apophis was a stellar terror, literally crushing and devouring loyalist and separatist ships alike with it's now animate maw.

Have flagships been discussed at all? If not, this a prompt. Tell me about your Legion's Gloriana.
>>
>>53421196
He recognizes they have the right character to both accept and remain discreet about his faith while he makes it more palatable for the rest of the legion. That's the most important part of their character, other than being seen as living legends by the other marines so they can act as vehicles for it.

They're similar to Abaddon in seeing their Primarch like a literal father, but they're significantly more cowed by this. They're prostrate before him, seeing him as practically a messiah and hardly ever openly disagree with him. This is actually a bit of a problem for Marduk over the course of the Heresy, as he frequently needs to confide strategically in his other officers instead of them. Though that's partly because they're still not really the sharpest tools in the shed. They're great orators, fighters, and assistants, but ultimately they'll never be more than a hyper-glorified honor guard.

Also, about the Abyssal Faith as a whole. When Marduk is first recovered he's significantly less zealous, but still a firm believer. So his wanting to spread it among his marines is a lot more innocent than I might have made it seem. He doesn't think it's that terrible a thing and also believes it will help restore the fighting spirit of the legion. Only later does it become increasingly about acting out the will of the Abyss/Chaos in real space. In short, he's not initially trying to subvert the Imperial Truth or anything, just doing what he thinks is best for his legion.

Fighting on the ground, Taarush Amin could barely believe what was happening. His brothers were firing upon him. This was unimaginable, especially since those brothers were the Chosen of Hecate. There were Primarchs that, had this situation arisen with them, Taarush would not have been as surprised, but he had fought alongside the Chosen on multiple battlefronts. They were considered one of Vokars closest allies. Yet here they were. While the Primarchs battled atop the dais Taarush Amin was forced to lead his ground troops in what was sure to be a massacre of the sons of Lambach. However, Taarush got the feeling that something was not right. As the Silver Blades crashed into the frontlines of the Chosen Taarush could not help but notice they seemed slow and jerky. As always the Silver Blades would dominate the close quarter fighting but the Chosen, Taarush thought, would normally be putting more into it. The front ranks, armed with the spear and combat shield combination that was favored by the Chosen of Hecate, were predictably battered but there were several who rose and continued fighting through injuries that would have surely seen most Astartes laid low. All the while the back ranks and Dreadnaughts kept up a steady stream of fire into the massed Silver Blades, reaping a bloody harvest. Taarush also noted the distinct lack of enemy psykers, despite the fact the sons of Miletus were famed for making use of the gifted.

)Linares is about to open a can of whoop ass)

The duel atop the dais continued with Linares, for the first time in their long history conceding ground to his brother. No matter how masterful his stroke or how perfect his parry it made no difference. Linares bled from multiple wounds but still he fought on. Forced to one knee Linares raised his sword to parry a swing that did not come.
"I do not wish this Linares" Lambach said, sitting on his haunches in front of his brother. "Our father has wronged me, not you. Why can't you see, he has lied to you, to Raj, to me and all our brothers. He could have warned you about what you would face this day and yet he did not. Ask yourself why my dear brother, why would he force us into situations we are woefully unprepared for when he supposedly has all the answers?" Linares glared at Lambach, during the speech the Lord of Ale had noticed something, something only a Primarch could ever have noticed.

Raj dived to the side as the Kaden creature slammed it's enormous meaty fist into the ground where moments before the Titan Lord had been standing. As confident as he was in his own superhuman endurance and healing factor Raj Vokar was certain that if this beast landed a blow like that he would surely perish. Rolling to his feet, his mechanical legs braced Raj unloaded his full arsenal into the side of the monster. Missiles , plasma bursts and bolt shells hammered home. Ripping huge chunks of flesh from it's body. Yet still it came on. Kaden lept at Raj who again attempted to dive away. This time however the clawed hand connected with Raj's left leg. Shattering the mechanical replacement to smithereens and the creature was upon him instantly. Pinning him down. The monster roared victoriously into the Primarchs face. With titanic strength Raj held the monsters head back stopping it from biting his own head into a red ruin. Kagolus came up under the monsters chin and with a fully charged shot, at point blank range, the top half of the thing that was once a great man named Radcliff Kaden simply disappeared. Raj allowed himself a single moment rest before turning his attention to Linares and Kropor. Linares was down on one knee while Lambach spoke to him, were the situation different Raj could have sworn the two were bonding like old times.

The Raakshas were never intended to become part of the legion proper. They just serve to give Raj an appreciation of Titans straight from his origins.
They're more experimental than the Titans, and, like Rokuten said, they're decisively less humanoid than the Imperial Titans.

Actually, that leads me to an idea on how Raj managed to get on the good side of the Mechanicus/Titanicus. Even though his homeworld is technically a Forge World, the Emperor left the planet and all of it's foundries in Raj's care, which is why people have referred to him as Fabricator-General of Manaan. Now, Raj does not actually have time to manage the planet, so he still leaves most of it in the Mechanicus' care, but he's still in charge. That means that he has control of the Raaksha foundries, as well as the Raaksha blueprints.

He could offer the Mechanicus blueprints to the various Raaksha designs/STCs? I think that would be a good way for him to get the AdMech on his side, especially if he doesn't give them everything in one go? He will also offer them to use Manaan to construct more Titans. Manaan was historically intended to be a Forge World specialized in the creation of Titans, so I'm guessing the AdMech would want to use it for that.

I ultimately still want the Titan Marchers to march in the shadows of Titans, I think it's quite the striking image. I'm specifically liking Xun's first three suggestions. The specific legions that have tied themselves to the Titan Marchers exploratory fleets tend to be less dogmatic and have joined them for their own reasons. That combined with the above mentioned offers Raj has made to the AdMech, I think you might be able to justify the legion fighting alongside Titans and Secutarii.
>>
Darzalas IX is located just above the northern border of Segmentum Solar, pretty far from the later Separatists realms. The XII legion takes the worlds it has brought in compliance in Ultima as its new home after abandoning Darzalas in a suicide retreat.
>>
>>53420587
As for Raj's opinion on Gyahdred's business, that really depends on Gyahdred's attitude towards him. If Gyahdred treats Raj with an air of superiority, Raj will quickly become angered and grow to dislike his works. If Gyahdred shows Raj the proper courtesy and the two get along, he might still be somewhat weary of his brother's strange experiments, but he'd just consider it a just another field of study. He wouldn't be cool with the 'lobotomizing your own troops' stuff though.

>>53418288
Yeah, during the Heresy it takes Raj quite a bit to fully convince himself he's made the right choice in staying loyal. Lambach is surely a big part of that. I'll think up something neat for the sidearm.

Question regarding the Separatists.

A lot of the reason why the Imperium survives is due to resources that no other empire has access to. For example, astropaths are consecrated and reshaped by the will of the Emperor himself (or the psychic energy of the Golden Throne) and are the only method of FTL communication in the Imperium. Similarly, the Navigator families are something isolated to the Imperium that no other human empire has access to.

Chaos gets around this being allied to the malevolent forces of the Warp, enabling them to move through the Warp without being assaulted by demons and perhaps send messages through the Warp via daemons.

How do the Separatists get by without the psychic infrastructure of the Imperium or the benefits of serving Chaos? How do they leash their psykers and keep them from exploding into planet-destroying phenomena? How do they navigate the Warp without Navigators or daemons to lead the way? How do they communicate over long distances without daemon messengers or Astropaths?
>>
I'm thinking of writing something up. Does anyone want their legion and primarch in a primarch-primarch write up?
>>
>>53423810
You could write a continuation of the story I posted a couple of days ago, aka the first time Je'She, Linares and Raj met?

>>53423801
Eventually they might be able to set up different methods of communication, along with with different forms of FTL (maybe a system like the Tau). Good question though, one I do not have immediate answer to.
>>
>>53423801
What if they managed to secure and use an Eldar webway portal or something similar?
>>
>>53423861
Too special snowflake. If the Emperor couldn't successfully do that, they totally shouldn't.

All I can think of is that they manage to snatch one or two Navigator families during the Secession. They could use Warp-capable ships as couriers for messages, which solves both the navigation and the communication issues.

But that still leaves the question of how they manage psykers. In fact, I'd say this is yet another reason why the Steel Souls should be incorporated into the Separatists, as they're one of the Legions with the most experience with handling psykers. I imagine they'd develop methods of leashing and controlling some of them with psybernetics.

It's mostly Emil's distaste for the Separatists and the difficulty of making a third human faction which doesn't just come across as one of the following:
>Special snowflake tacticool operators that are totally smarter than dumb Imperials.
>Just another Imperium that carries no obvious differences and uses all the same stuff.
>Extremely dull renegades that somehow don't devolve into Chaos worship for whatever reason.

One of the biggest parts of this project is deciding what the Separatists actually are. What keeps each of them from falling to Chaos, what lured each of them away from the Imperium, what advantages they have that enable them to survive in the 41st Millennium, etcetera.

Once we're able to solve the Separatist problem and make them a solid faction that fits in with the themes of Warhammer 40K, then maybe Emil might be comfortable with involving the Steel Souls. Until then, I feel like the pussy-footing might continue.

>>
>>53425337
I think maybe all the Seps should come up with why they seceed, but don't devolve into Chaos worshippers.
It seems to me like the current Chaos Legions go pretty hard into the whole worshipping thing right away, but correct me if I'm wrong on that.
For Einchurt and the VI, they seceed because they dislike the idea of mortals being placed in charge of things. The mortals haven't fought and suffered like the Astartes have, and so don't have a true idea of what the galaxy is really like. If the Emperor wants the Astartes to continue being the Defenders of Humanity, then he has to be willing to make them also the Lords of Humanity, you can't pussyfoot about that kind of thing. To him, the military must be the government, or else the two are going to run into far too many issues with one another.
On top of that, he dislikes that the very Officers requesting his aid or directing him to warzones also call for the censure of him and his sons. Sure, their methods may be harsh, but in the campaigns they are involved in, those methods are necessary. You can't just execute someone by firing squad and then charge the firing squad with murder, essentially.
Furthermore, Einchurt shares sympathies with some of the more radical Mechanicum elements, potentially including some tha go on to become the Dark Mechanicum. In his eyes, one can't just hope to maintain technological superiority without progress, and technology is the key to victory. He shares the ideas that Humanity shouldn't be bound wholely by STCs, and should instead seek to innovate an improve existing designs, while also creating new ones, regardless of the cost (although it's unlikely he fully understands exactly what those costs may be).
>>
>>53425404
I like the heretek idea myself, although I still feel like that requires the existence of a treasure trove of archeotech for the Separatists to take advantage of. This would give the Separatists a point of technological divergence that could be built upon to make them distinct from the Imperium and the Chaos Legions.

Having the Separatists put themselves on even ground with the Imperium just through their own technological progress does come across as a little snowflakey. Down that road lies the Reasonable Marines and Knights Inductor.
>>
>>53425327
So crushing it up, melting it down and rearranging its molecular structure?
So what you're saying is "We have the English language. Now we must pick words, nay letters, from it, to write a story"
>>53425337
Just go with option B, for goodness sake. They're separatists. That means they want to be separate. Its an inherent and perfectly viable reason to have them go a different route, they don't need to be distinguishable in any kind of fashion save for the fact that they say "We don't like your government".
So just make them that. Separatists. They conquered worlds and now want them for themselves, while Chaos wants to set everything ablaze like the edgelords we are. The Imperium doesn't want them to leave because muh rightful clay so they start butting heads. It's so fucking easy.
Why is this a point of discussion that completely halts everything?
>>
>>53425522
That's a good starting point for the Heresy/Secession, sure.

The discussion is mostly over what the Separatists eventually become.
>>
Let's try a different approach: Instead of calling the faction Separatists, which basically just means that they want to be their independent government, let's call them Revolutionaries. That puts them into a more aggressive position. They conquered planets, are told to fuck off and let others direct the spoils, to which they say no we want our spoils.
They WANT to come to Terra and take over the whole place, at least initially. For all its worth, let them incorporate the conquered planets' cultures more into their overall structure. While the loyalist Imperium forces are very uniform, the Separatists/Revolutionaries are more diverse in appearance and technology. This could play into a distinct technological advantage seeing how the traditionalist sects of the AdMech probably have banned certain technology that was deemed too uncontrollable while the RevSeps gain support from progressive AdMechs who would embrace the local technology and science.

So this way the RevSeps get cool toys that are still kind of unreliable and don't allow them tacticool snowflakeisms and make them at least different enough, for what it's worth.
