What is the dogma of the Cult of Rushmore?
When the USA is dead and gone, what do the godlike figures represent?

Immediately I thought of a comparison between the American Revolution and the Gods-Vs-Titans/Giants sort of myth.

Long ago, the British ruled over the earth, then the Great Fathers rose up against them, and there was great thunder and bloodshed on a scale you could not even imagine. They drove the British far away to an island at the end of the Earth, and they made the land of the free, handing down the Constitution of Commandments to mankind, whom they had created in their image. Now they watch over us from the spirit world, but before they left they raised a mountain in the shape of their visages, so that we may see with our own eyes that they are indeed with us to this day.

I mean, let's be honest, George Washington is a fucking saint compared to the founders of many other nations.

George Washington - God of Freedom and Liberty
Thomas Jefferson - God of Self Determination
Theodore Roosevelt - God of Protecting the Weak and Fair Play
Abraham Lincoln - God of Union, Loyalty, and Equality

Franklin D. Roosevelt is best God though.

Anon, I like Teddy but don't pretend he wasn't involved in a lot of violent stuff, like the Spanish-American War, continued US occupation of the Philipines despite its desire for freedom, and negotiated a peace between Russia and Japan that allowed de facto control of Korea by the Japanese Empire. The reason I said it was the gods is because they might not believe it is possible for humans to do that. In the past is was quite common for people to think Megaliths and so forth were made by giants or cyclopses because there was just no way in their minds that humans could raise such stones.
>>

I don't think war is fitting for him.

>>

Remember though the mythology should still be distinctly American. The great Presidents are the ones who people memorialize as the ones who inspire others, so it's totally in line for their "worshippers" to build the monuments themselves.

You could, however, attribute national wonders to them. Like claim the Yellowstone Caldera was the location of Teddy's fortress temple.

I like how we can tie this into the parallels with Greek mythology that we are going for.
>Native Americans are akin to the titans, ancient beings in tune with the chaotic natural forces
>we have taken their land from them and made them subservient, our old prejudices have caused our ancestors to persecute them and their children for crimes, both real and imagined.
>Worship for them has resurged as cultures change and they are less vilified
>new age customs involve making sacrifices (mostly monetary) to them as atonement for crimes against their ancestors.
>some orthodox sects still believe they should be persecuted and have declared them and their gods deceivers and tricksters who seek only to steal our hard earned wealth.
>>
>>51777430
I like the idea of postapocalyptic white people thinking the natives are magical, with all their dream-catchers and medicine men and spirit dances, being in tune with nature. It reminds me of Norse Sagas, which often referred to Finns in a mystical context, because their religion was strange and shamanistic. Some Finns even sold knots to Norse sailors that would supposedly cause the wind to blow properly when you untied them.
Native Americans exploiting the white people's belief in their magical powers and offering their services as travelling witch-doctors, exorcists and healers sounds great.

Patton is less of a god and more of an epic figure like Achilles or Odysseus.

Jefferson Davis was a priest who sought to become a God himself by aligning the states of man Into worshipping him, and he succeeded in corrupting 11 before he was struck down by Lincoln, who freed the dark skinned people's he had enslaved. When Davis died, his blood spilled on the earth and gave birth to Him Crow, the devil of corruption and Tyranny. Egh, I think a lot of the parallels are being forced here.

Patton had a sort of brash charisma to him. Even people who didn't like him admitted he was a respectable and competent leader. The only reason Ike took him off the front was because he started actively terrorizing his own troops. Something came loose in the guy during those last few years.

Trump, for all his talk, isn't actually that blunt. He's a skilled manipulator who's really good at saying exactly what he needs to get the results he wanted. Patton sometimes spoke before thinking. Everything Trump says is calculated, even if sometimes it doesn't seem like it.

He lived and breathed for warfare. He was a true general, and he was a little out there. The movie is pretty close to the mark in terms of who he was as a person, though obviously exaggerated.

Patton really is one of America's most fascinating figures. He was all the good things and the worst things you could have in a leader rolled into one lean, green, war-winning machine.

Honestly it's probably almost a mercy he died after the war ended. Who knows how he would've handled peace time. But at the same time, Korea might've turned out different if he had been there.

Hard to say. Truman was pretty paranoid about Russia getting openly involved. China by itself was able to through enough bodies to stalemate the US army and Russia was arguably better armed than the US.
>>
>>51776492
God of Fortune and Protector of Builders.
Trump was the last Father to ascend to the halls of the Founders and the last great leader until the collapse of the Old Union. He defeated an evil harpy that threatened to destroy the Union and, with the help of a renegade Brit by the name of Farage, he built a great wall to stop the southern barbarians, and kicked them back to their lands.
Sadly, after 16 years of great prosperity, his reign was cut short by the Yellow Scourge, who attacked the Old Union and caused the Time of Great Fires, wich ended the Union and created the world we know today.

>>
>>51779109
I don't get why people think Patton would've been interesting in Korea. It's a goddamn peninsula, all you can do is go up, and you can't cross the Yalu river or else the Chinese would've enlarged the war. If that had happened the US would've had to commit so many troops to Korea it would've weakened their ability to respond to a surprise Soviet attack in Germany. No bombing of China, limited nuclear weapons and only in Korea, and no crossing the Yalu. Truman was the president and wouldn't have let a general start world war 3 over Korea in a manner not advantageous to the US. Patton wouldn't have been able to do anything about it, since Truman was willing to remove MacArthur from his command and he was just as well respected as Patton. Granted, it cost Truman re-election, but the biggest difference in the war with Patton in Korea would've been the whole peninusla under US/ROK control

At best US Army forces could've been more prepared, more strongly reinforced, and more well deployed after rolling back the Norks to resist Chinese Volunteer Forces.

"the warrior known as Roosevelt slew the mighty but decadent demon known as the Span-eesh and cast down their empire of gold and farm. When he became Pre-is-dent he fought against the evil mo-polies and tore them into many pieces. When the great evil demons across-the-sea tried to strike him down he raised a great white fleet and sailed it across the world to strike fear against the demons-across-the-sea. When the people from the sun-land and they-who-lies-with-bears fought Roosevelt brought them both together and ended their conflict with peace for both sides"

Spaneesh, the demon of pride and hubris, the last son of George of the Red Coat.

These and other demons did Roosevelt vanquish. He who tamed the Bull Moose and Roughly Rode it to victory. Was it not his very son who unlocked the power of the Smallest Thing, ATOM, and rained down it's wrath upon the sun-men and nahtzees when they threatened to plunge the world into eternal darkness and communism?

There were once two generals who served under the gods and were closer to them than most; they were paragons of strength and ability, and under their command were legions of steel defenders who bore their name. These generals were the best of friends, yet under the cruel maccanations of Jefferson Davis, were forced to fight against each other in the great war of states; Robert Lee and Ulysses Grant, Lee being the one who fought under Davis, not because he worshipped him, but because he was sworn to defend his state, which had fallen to the mad priest.

The two fought bitterly against each other until Lee could fight no more, attempting to keep the conflict as civil as possible, leading to its name "The Civil War". Though fighting for the side of the right, Grant found fighting his friends taxing, and when the war ended he took the burden of godhood that Jefferson Davis so craved and used his powers to ensure such an event would never happen again. Their steel armies are said to still exist somewhere, awaiting to be commanded once again.

There was a third, lesser-known general who controlled his own beasts which breathed jets of flame. His name was Sherman, the general of fire, and he baptised the 11 states in order to cleanse them of their sins.

Remember little one, the first Roosevelt was Roosevelt the Warrior, the second Roosevelt was his cousin, Roosevelt the Free.

Roosevelt the Free or sometimes known as Eff-Dee-Arr first led the free people through a chaotic time known as the Great Depression where people ate shoes and lived in great squalor. So great was the suffering that an entire generation lived without hope.

Eff-Dee-Arr lifted the people with his New Deal and helped the land grow prosperous and happy. However at the same time dark clouds grew in the lands of the demons as a lesser demon known as Hit-Lr rose to prominence.

Hit-Lr and his fellow demons like Muss-Lini and the Joe-Ironman preyed upon their fellow demons desires, overthrew the ruling demon castes and made everyone worship them. For Eff-Dee-Arr this was troubling but for the people, the dealings of the demons-across-the-see were not of his business and peace continued.

>Hit-Lr - Deutschland
>Muss-Lini - Eta-Li
>Joe-Ironman - they-who-lies-with-bears

When war came, it was not from Hit-Lr or from the land of the demons, it was from the Sun-Land.
>>
>>51783799
Eff-Dee-Arr or Roosevelt the Free had dealings with the people of the Sun-Land. The sun-people had invaded the crumbling ruins of the Celestial empire and threatened all of Asia. Roosevelt asked them to stop but was rebuffed. Undaunted Roosevelt decided cease trade with them. This caused the sun-people great distress and they tried to negotiate

As they talked, the sun-people launched their great fleet and burned the free people's armada to the bottom of the Harbor of Pearls. So devastating was this act the free people demanded that Roosevelt take revenge.

Facing a war on multiple fronts Roosevelt decided that a pact must be made with the ladt unconquered people living in the land of the demons-across-the-sea.
>>
>>51783876
With the pact made with the last unconquered people, Eff-De-Arr went to work, directing the free people to create a great armies, armadas and airforces of the republic. So great was their work that peoples in other lands went into battle with weapons made and supplied by the free people.

For the people living in the land of the demons-across-the-sea, their darkest hour was at hand. The Britahns were near defeat. The Fyhrech were all but conqured. Other lands held in darkness by Hit-Lr and his armies. Once the Britahns were smothered to the point they could not fight back, Hit-Lr turned his attention to the unsuspecting Joe-Ironman and smashed his armies into the land of they-who-lies-with-bears.

Knowing full well the power of Hit-Lr and his corrupted land would be capable of, Eff-Dee-Arr turned his attention to the power of Atom. Taming the power of atom was no easy feat and Eff-Dee-Arr entrusted a little known warrior known as Groves and a teacher called OPen-Heimer.

Through their quest they obtained a portion of Atoms power and made Three sons, Trinity, Little Boy and Fat Man.

This warrior of a dead world affected me deeply, though I could not say why or even just what emotion it was I felt. In some obscure way, I wanted to take down the picture and carry it-not into our necropolis but into one of those mountain forests of which our necropolis was (as I understood even then) an idealized but vitiated image. Chink-flavoured britbong here: what the flying fist fuck are you on about?

I'm here, and I'd imagine that a fair few others are too, for the idea of creating a mythology, burgerwank or not. I'm not trying to compensate for some fucking lack of mythology - honestly, I'd imagine the Far East has far more interesting and diverse shit than the constant Greek, Roman or Norse shit you probably jack off to before you go to sleep - I'm wanting to see how modern society would, in the future, be (mis)interpreted as mythology.

Admittedly, the American spin on it is probably the most commonly (over)used version, but I don't mind it in the slightest because it was a fucking cool idea in A Canticle for Leibowitz and it's a fucking cool idea to this day. I'm just as interested in the worship of God-President Washington as I would be in stories of the ground spirits who emerge to slaughter any unwary enough to travel through the land that used to be the Korean DMZ, or as I would be in the legends of the mighty Ar-babs who raised a vast temple of steel and glass from lifeless desert. Assuming that the idea exists purely to make up for the objectively true fact that Amerifats have less culture than a tub of yoghurt is a ridiculous level of projecting that should stay on tumblr, /pol/, or both.

Doesn't mean it's not a bad thing when it happens though. And "technologically inferior" is a bit off the mark. The only technological edge the Europeans really had was guns, and most Natives got their hands on those really damn quick.

The Natives lost because disease wiped out so many of them they lost any numerical superiority they might have had at the start.

>It's hardly unique to the native/settler conflicts.

Thing is poor treatment of America's Natives never stopped even after they got relocated. They've been fucked over constantly. Even today. I'm usually all for expanding energy infrastructure but that pipeline is like building a fucking Wal-mart in the middle of Arlington.

On the contrary, the natives weren't significantly technologically inferior, at least military-wise by the time they were finally taken over. More than anything, it was the 50+ tribes' lack of ability to cooperate, and the states' ability to cooperate that ultimately sealed the fate of the former.

They had guns and cavalry and artillery and were organized like an at the time modern military.

This. It's a common trope for most of the American conquest.

Not forgotten exactly I'd say, just changed a bit with the times.

Columbia was meant to be a symbol of progress and of America's boundless potential. Expanding national borders, liberating oppressed peoples and so forth. While we may not still put her up everywhere as a character, the spirit of improvement and reaching for the future is still very much alive in modern America.

How many groups are pushing the boundaries of science, technology and programming with a core premise of 'because it's there to be discovered'? Maybe she's fallen from the limelight a bit but I'd imagine her in a 'modern' mythos as a kind of overseer, half librarian half secretary. Her sister Liberty is the more emotional side that promises freedom to all, while Columbia is the more logical side that drives progress and the spirit of self improvement and societal development.

From left to right in >>51788440:
Betsy Ross (goddess of the home, nurturing, craft, and medicine)
Br'er Rabbit (god of chaos, trickery and the underdog)
Pecos Bill (god of cowboys, the outdoors, and individualism)
Rosie the Riveter (goddess of social reform, women, and tireless industry)
Columbia (goddess of pioneers and immigrants, optimism, and travel)
Paul Bunyan (god of epic strength, cheerful labour, and the earth)
Uncle Sam (god of American ideals, self-sacrifice and patriotism)
John Henry (god of guts, hard work, fire, and pride)
Johnny Appleseed (god of fertility, giving, and agriculture)

this is the condensed version, the gods in Scion don't break down into purviews like that

Well then.

As long as you stay east of the Rockies we're good, barbarian. I'll even sell you wine. Please raid Mormons more, and be nice to the Emperor's Paiute servants.

I prefer hanging around up north and in the mountains anyway. Also Mormons don't exist in my world anymore

You live in a better world. Please tell me the atom-worshipers are gone too.

Also IIRC pointing is some sort of taboo within native american culture. It would be like a bunch of white people making a statue of MLK giving double middle fingers.

I'm OP, and I didn't think this was as much a controversial topic as it apparently is. Thanks for contributing though!

>that pipeline is like building a fucking Wal-mart in the middle of Arlington.
They rerouted it around native lands.

The complaint now is that it crosses parts of their water table, which is outside their land. Which is a pretty flimsy complaint at best.

So, just saw this thread for the first time and wanted to thank all of your for the inspiration. I once ran a post apoc game with the religion of the the Ladies; Truth, Justice, and Liberty. The founding fathers were saints, the presidents were prophets. But, this is all much more fun.

I could definitely see that.

Didn't Crazy Horse have issues with being photographed for cultural reasons? Wouldn't this be a similar case of icongraphy he would be against and thus why the project is considered awkward by other groups of native american descendants?

You know I've never thought about Mount Rushmore actually being made, since I'm not American, what time period was it undertaken in?
>>
>>51806008
It took 14 years, 1927 to 1941.
Fun Fact: The rock it's carved from is such that it's expected to take 2 million years to fully disappear.

Europe please. Muslims in America are not only under control, but very westernized and prefer to not be associated with the nuts in Europe, save a couple of nuts that really don't like gay people.
>>
>>51814799
That's because we have fewer of them and are so heavily armed that they know if they acted like they do in Europe, the government wouldn't even need to intervene, /k/ alone would be fully capable of removing them.

>>

To be fair, a considerable ammount of them are either leftovers or descendants of those who migrated over during the Cold War to escape the Soviet invasion, and as such were able to adapt well to American society due to a mutual hatred of the godless commies
