The situation was bad, but he wasn’t dead yet.

Acting fast, Isaac triggered the thrusters built into his RIG on full burn. In a zero-G environment this would have sent him careening almost out of control across the chamber. Under gravity the effect on his positioning was less impressive, the burst of thrust ‘only’ enough to slide him along the floor from whatever had just hit him from the side and blinding anything unprotected that happened to be staring straight at the plasma jets. The mutated, pale swarm was largely unaffected. Evidently whatever happened to them had removed their dependence on eye sight. The two red demons and the fireball throwing brown ones were another matter, all of them flinching away from the painfully bright arc lights.

Isaac kept the thrusters burning until he felt his shoulders strike a bulkhead. His gambit having paid off, Isaac climbed back to his feet for the second time in as many fights and steadied himself with an arm against the wall. Lacking the time ready another implement Isaac sighted the Ripper on the nearest of the two red demons and fired off another spinning blade, dragging the buzzing saw along the nearest of its double jointed legs. The blade bit deep and, to Isaac’s amazement and concern, stuck fast. The thing howled in pain and tried to turn to charge him again, hobbled by the sharp blade lodged in what passed for its knee.

Sighting on the lodged blade, Isaac highlighted it on his RIG’s HUD and activated his inbuilt Kinesis module, ripping the blade free in a spray of shredded meat and bone shards. The blade flew across the intervening space and jerked to a halt beside Isaac’s left hand. Grinning manically Isaac whipped said arm around in an arc like he was tossing a discus, and in a way he was. The RIG’s computer interpreted the gesture, translated it to a burst of kinetic force, and hurtled the blade faster than the eye could follow straight at the unwounded red demon. The flying blade struck at an angle above the thing’s right eye, barely slowing as it neatly clipped the top of the demon’s head off before continuing on to carve a path through the pale mutants and bury it’s self in the metal wall behind the lot of them.

The half decapitated demon ran on another two strides before going limp and crashing to the floor, spilling dark grey brain matter from its ruined skull. The wounded demon had recovered its footing after having the blade ripped from its limb and was still hobbling straight at Isaac with single minded determination, considerably slowed to not much faster than the pale creatures that had by now shambled level with it. Isaac had lost sight of the brown fireball throwing demons, which while probably not a good thing could be dealt with when they reappeared from wherever they had gone.

His back to the literal wall, Isaac decided it was time to move. Firing off one last Ripper blade, right into the wounded demon’s face this time, Isaac sighted on a gap in the pale mass, crouched, and activated his thrusters a second time in a rocket assisted leap. The leap turned into a body check when one of the brown demons leapt from its hiding place at the back of the pack to intercept Isaac’s escape. The two of them tumbled through the air and Isaac crashed to the ground once again, this time tangled with a clawing, biting THING. He brought his fist back and smashed it into the demon’s face, again and again, the Ripper mounted to his wrist adding force and sharp edges to the blows.

After more blows than was probable necessary the demon stopped thrashing, either dead with a broken skill or concussed into submission Isaac neither knew nor cared. His focus shifted now to fighting his way clear of the limp form and regaining his feet before being overwhelmed. He had barely started this task when something large blocked the lights above and grabbed him roughly by one of the armored plates on his chest. Instead of being struck, burned or crushed however the form hauled him to his feet and spun him off to one side.

A couple of us are writing dead space cross over stories and genreally hashing out how DS would work as a TTRPG in various forms. Once I get to a good pause point I'm going to type out the tale of the time a handfull of Shadowrunners stopped the world from Being Made Whole in 2065 and may have shot Altman on the way out.

Not yet, I haven't had much of a chance to come up for air the last few weeks. I know it doesn't take much but I'm kind of an insufferable lazy something or other at times. I'll have one before this thread falls off the bottom of the board.

For tg related, I'm trying to make a dead space themed Skitarii/mechanicum force, what would be some good conversion tips?
>>
>>50799454
That's actually kind of a tough one anon. The first thing that comes to mind would be adding the RIG health bar things to the backs of all Skitarii units and possibly the cogboys as well. Depending on how far you wanted to take it you could either green stuff it on or maybe try bits of colored fiber optic.
>>
>>50799454
I've been working on a Unitoligists themed Genestealer Cult army for a few months now but they've been shoved to the back burner due to work related holiday BS.
>>
>>50799522
Sounds like a good point, change weapons to a dead space theme where applicible, maybe make the mechadendrites harken to necromorph limbs in subtle ways?
>>
>>50799560
Yeah, I could see that working. If you wanted to create a custom forge world have the heraldry be pic related inside the AdMech cog or something similar, try free handing it on dune crawlers if you feel like trying that out.

The thought also occurred to me you could go a more organic approach to your Sicarian(sp?) Dunestalkers/Ruststalkers. Make them full blown Necromorphs if you wanted to go nuts with Tyranid bits, say in the forge world lore they'd always been dominated by the Magos Biologist whomever who had great insight into whatever since he dug up an ancient relic from somehwere.

Maybe, I'm playing them as loyalists so I'd want to make it an imperialized version of itself
>>
>>50799818
Hmmm, good point. That being the case I'd say RIGs on most of the guys and see where you could modify weapons. Looking at the model line one thing that jumps out at me would be giving Rust Stalkers plasma cutters in place of their burst pistols, maybe see if you could do something like give Rangers contact beams in place of radium rifles?
>>

Was thinking of contact beams on the cataphracti destroyers or on the forge world myrmidons, the upcoming Imperial armor book I hear is to be justifying 30k cybernetica stuff in 40k

Isaac's day had not gotten any better, first he was attacked by a stasis wielding madman (not like he was fit to judge) then he was turned into some kind of paper monstrosity, now one of these bastards has stabbed him with something and he's starting to feel pretty weird.

"I gotta get out of here, these guys have some serious bullshit and it's starting to freak me out." The frightened engineer thought to himself. If he couldn't escape soon he'd be toast, and he still needed to get his bearings properly.
Luckily the Advanced Suit comes with several bonuses, compared to his old [MINING RIG]
Firstly is a selective stasis module (never accidentally slow yourself again!) and secondly, high grade CEC aerospace manoeuvring gear, "Sure" Isaac thought to himself, "it'd be less effective in gravity and wouldn't allow for true flight", but a quick rocket assisted jump would get him some space to breathe at least.

This was a great plan and could not possibly go wrong in any way possible.

Isaac raised his arm to fire off a stasis blast at the teen with terrible hair, at a close range like this it would affect everyone around him but, due to his suit's safety features, should leave him running in normal time.
This plan worked for about a second and a half, the stasis module fired. A bright teal light flew towards the teen stand user, he tried to dodge but it was entirely too close, and ripples of blue energy spread from the impact point on his torso.
Rohan backed away in slow motion, Josuke, already groggy from his broken arm was knocked clean out by a desperate and vicious haymaker.
Isaac activated his Rocket boots flying backwards, until [SOMETHING] grabbed him by the leg and using his own momentum, swung him headfirst into a wall.
Fear clouded Isaac's eyes as he tried to recover from the vicious impact,
"Yare Yare, looks like you have some kind of time manipulation tech on that suit.
I'll be sure to ask you about that... when you wake up."
"ORA"
>>
>>50803629
I'm not familiar with that system but it doesn't look too complex or hard to pick up. I'm inclined to modify an existing system, no point in reinventing the wheel when you can repurpose it.

Thanks anon!

The last thing Isaac saw before unconsciousness took him, was the man in white towering above him. And a [STRANGE BLUE FIGURE] throwing a punch at incredible speed.

Yoshikage Kira is driving a car down a countryside lane, the remains of the owner slumped in the back seat. As he slowly leaves the Morioh outskirts, Kira's sick mind twists and turns, already formulating a plan to enact his revenge. Being a responsible driver, Yoshikage pulls into the side of the road to call his father. The phone rings several times but Kira is pleased to hear his father's voice upon being answered.

"My dear son" whispers the old man concernedly, "Are you safe? That terrible Kujo boy is off your trail for now, but they'll be lo-"
"Yes, father" Swiftly interrupts the murderous manuphiliac. "And you'll be relieved to know i'm leaving Morioh-cho. At least for now, though it rankles me."
"It's about time boy, I told you there were too many of them. Even the most cunning fox can be caught by a pack of dogs."

It is at this exact moment that the younger Kira's mind clicks, rusted gears bringing forth a devious scheme.
"Father, do you still have the arrow?"
"Of course Yoshikage, why?" Yoshihiro's brow relaxed, his son had some clever plan, he supposed.
"Meet me in Niseko-Cho and bring the arrow, we'll gather our own [GROUP]

Ah, there wasn't really any reason to "give up hope" per se. We just kinda realized that there wasn't much else to talk about, and our writing and thinktanks started to stagnate, so we all just called it off.

Then this happened and we all realized that there's plenty more madness to go around. We've got new bizarre ideas and writefags, I'm re-writing my story, etc. Only thing we need now are some drawfags

Isaac awoke, sweating from the nightmare, it was the same one he always had. Watching helplessly as Nicole killed herself, over and over. He thought that eventually it'd stop bothering him, that he'd get desensitised, numb to it.
He never did.
The first thing Isaac noticed was the lack of his [SUIT]. It hardly surprised him really, the first thing he'd do if he ever took a captive was disarm them. What did surprise Isaac was the room he was in, no padded walls or bars on the window.
It reminded him of a [HIGH CLASS HOTEL]. There was a comfortable bed beneath him and even a minibar.
Nothing in the wardrobe though, Isaac sighed and lamented how his[BLOODY STRAIGHT-JACKET] probably wouldn't make the best impression.

He crept warily up to the door, checking to see if it was locked. Continuing to surprise the engineer, the door was completely unlocked. Taking a quick look outside to ascertain exactly how many Horrible monsters, murderous psychos or EarthGov soldiers there were waiting to kill him. Isaac was relieved to see only a small landing area, carpeted in a light blue, and a set of elevators.
Isaac, somewhat unnerved, decided to take the stairs to the bottom.

Shepard felt newfound concern for Isaac's mental stability as his tale carried on. Every turn of the way seemed far more than most could take without breaking down completely. The commander weighed the possibility of some fabrication in Isaac's story, seeing as how he seemed to sane to have really gone through these things. Then again, one had to consider his reluctance to tell such a life story. there were also subtle hints at authenticity such as changes in voice tone, nervous body language, and narrative shift. Either this was all real, or Isaac was a very good actor. Shepard continued to tread carefully with the engineer's words in his mind as the story continued, now being taken to a planet called Tau Volantis, where EarthGov had supposedly found away to stop the markers. Isaac's party, who had baited him into participating by using Ellie as bait, had been almost all eliminated save for him, a man by the name of John Carver, and Ellie. Isaac got into further detail regarding the alien race of Tau Volantis and their attempt to stop a convergence event - the assimilation of infected biomess into a wretched, planetoid-sized abomination known as a brother moon. Isaac had some footage he could spare from his RIG's recorder, and as Shepard watched, he became somewhat unnerved. The probability of falsehood on Isaac's part was very quickly declining. Shepard asked one final question before Isaac finished. 'So, were you able to use teh codex and stop it?"

"Yeah.. yeah we stopped it. It's just that I'm not sure what happened next. I told you about the machine. I'm pretty sure it got me here somehow. none of us really knew how it worked, only that it could stop everything."

A prolonged silence ensued before Shepard asked another question. "So, you're sure it didn't follow you here?"

Isaac's lips tucked and his eyes narrowed in nervous determination. "It's all gone."
>>

>teh codex

THE BROTHER MOONS HAVE LONG STUDIES THESE "LOL CATS"

>"It's all gone"
I'm really picturing isaacs face there as silently adding "it has to be" to the end of thhat sentence.

And as a side note, I wonder why all the brother moons follow the same body plan? Is it based off the original marker builders? Is it not based off them but just how they grow? It cant be based off species due to size and such, but if you got a proper close look at one would you see them fusing together in the same way as brute morphs etc, or at hive mind or above convergence events does the marker just morph all the flesh together into one discrete mass and work from there rather than stitching multiple corpses together? What's the moon part of a Bm made of? Do they actually use planetoids as a shell or is it a bony mimicry?

"Alright... I could tell you were kind of uncomfortable telling me this-"

"Nah, it's alright." Isaac said, hoping to cut Shepard off before any cheesy condolences could be made. There were many sentiments he could appreciate, but pity was not one of them. "You know what you need to know."

Shepard wasn't sure just how true that statement was. The footage was interesting, but by all means disturbing. He was glad that it wasn't a storm headed for the galaxy's shore anytime soon. The Reapers and their collector puppets were enough to deal with for now. What Shepard was glad to know was just how capable Isaac was. Any man who could take on this much at one time was a force to be reckoned with. Therein however, lay the rub: that much stress and trauma surely has to have taken a heavy toll by now. Before realizing this, Shepard was tempted to offer Isaac a combat position on the team, but that pipe dream was cut short when Shepard remembered his empathy and prudence. No wonder Isaac had been so evasive and reclusive earlier. Still though, there was no rest for the wicked. Shepard was no stranger to violence and terror, and though Isaac had certainly been putting up with it longer and in some cases more intensely, he was by means exempt from this new mess he found himself in. Shepard resolved therefore to take it slow with his newfound ally before inviting him to participate in an operation. With that in mind, Shepard closed their interview for the time being. "Thank you for telling me this, Isaac."

"Yeah..."

"Oh, by the way I forgot to mention, the council's been wanting to meet with you." Shepard said, opening his omni-tool to see that he had been sent several new messages. "They've already set a time for you to be there at the presidium to talk about re-starting the demonstrations and subsidizing fabrications companies to repro your tech."

"When were they thinking of doing that?"

"They want us there in three days to the dot. Should be enough time for you to gather all you stuff from the Rayya. I'll make sure we've got room in the cargo bay. I'll get everyone underway in about two hours."

"Good stuff... What should I do till then?"

"Well, seeing as how you're gonna be calling the Normandy home for a while, I don't think it would be half a bad idea to get to know her a little better."

"Sounds good."

Shepard was almost out of the door when he turned around to give Isaac one more piece if advice. "Oh, and Isaac?"

"Yeah?"

"Try and relax a little."

"... Doesn't sound too bad either."

"Be seeing you, Isaac."

"See you, man."

Slowly descending the stairs, Isaac began to ruminate on his situation.
"What the hell kind of crazed mob locks a man in a [HOTEL]? I'm not even hurt that bad, so they must have fixed me up. But why go to all that trouble if they're planning on just letting me walk out? And what was with that [GIANT BLUE MAN], or how i turned into paper?
Isaac stopped for a second and chuckled grimly, sunken eyes narrowing in an imitation of mirth. "I was probably just hallucinating, sure wouldn't be the first time."
"Anyway, i gotta get my [SUIT] back and get out of this place, maybe find an automap or something to link my locator to."
Isaac set his face in a look of grim determination, Steely grey eyes locked on the door at the bottom of the stairs. The professional survivor pulled a steel pipe off the nearby wall to serve as protection, and stepped through the doot.

Isaac strode through into the [HOTEL]'s reception, scanning the area for anything important looking. The main thing Isaac noticed was that there was no actual exits, all the walls were made of a featureless golden metal. Secondly to his right was a seating area, and what Isaac could only assume to be the main desk.
The desk was being manned by a Staff robot, it was wearing a business suit that covered most of it's body except for it's head, which took the appearance of a golden helmet.

As it noticed Isaac enter it called out to him. "Excuse me sir, terribly sorry to bother you but i have a message from a Mister Kujo. He wishes to speak with you."
"Who's Mister Kujo?" questioned the rather confused engineer, scanning the area warily.
"One of the other residents here at the [HIGH LIFE] Sir. A reclusive sort, keeps himself to himself."

Hey... look buddy i don't have time for this, have you seen a [CEC Suit] black with an orange terminal on the chest? I really gotta get it back."
...
"Your suit is currently being held by Mister Kujo, Sir."

"Shit, guess i got no choice huh?"

"Mister Kujo's residence is on the third Floor, Sir. You can take the elevator up."
"I'll take the stairs if it's all the same to you."
"By all means Sir."
Isaac turns away from the [ROBOTIC MANSERVANT] and heads back towards the stairwell, passing by the seating area on his way.
"Well that was productive." the exasperated mechanic sighed, his sarcasm going unanswered by the lifeless building.
"Y'know, for a [HOTEL] this fancy there seems to be a serious lack of people. Either this is all in my head, or they're having a serious off season."

Isaac slowly ascended the stairs, picking at the dried blood staining his Straight-jacket. Upon reaching the third floor he heard raised voices coming from one of the rooms, Jotaro Kujo written on the door.
"Sono injū wa, Yosuke no ude o yabutta."
"Soshite, kare wa sutando o motteinai, watashi wa saisho ni, watashi wa ima kōkai suru kettei o kōgeki shita. Kare wa tada jibun jishin o mamotte ita dakedatta."

"What the fuck? please let them have a translator or something."
Isaac knocked, then entered the room.

Jotaro's meeting with the others was not going well, Okuyasu and Koichi were out for blood, despite Jotaro's insistence that he had attacked first.
Rohan's opinion was that the man was dangerous, understandably. However he also believed that further study was needed, what little proof the mangaka had so far pointed to him simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
And unfortunately due to the dangerous nature of the man's subconscious, He was unable to extract any more knowledge using [HEAVEN'S DOOR].
"Josuke", questioned the Wheezing voice of Okuyasu, "you agree with me right? this jackass helped Kira get away! And he broke your arm! We can't trust this guy."

"Okuyasu, I agree that we can't trust him. He stood up against three stand users and almost escaped" Josuke reasoned. Someone like that could be seriously bad news, but if we play our cards right we might find ourselves with a useful ally. I believe we should wait, talk to him, and observe before we figure out a plan.
And if he truly is a friend of Kira.

"We Retire him, Permanently."

"Hell yeah." Shouted Okuyasu,

"Try not to get too excited Nijimura" interrupted Jotaro, "while i thought it best at the time, we should remember that i attacked first. I don't regret it, we learned valuable information about his capabilities. But him defending himself only proves his will to survive, nothing else."

"I am interested in how he defended himself from Rohan though."

It is at this moment that the assembled party hears a knock at the door.

As Isaac enters the room all conversation stops as the group turns to contemplate their newest arrival, Isaac also turns his gaze to the occupants of the room, there's the teen from earlier with his arm in a cast, the Incredibly tall man in white, "probably 'Mister Kujo', based on his age." Then there was the aloof looking young man, who turned Isaac into paper.
Seated on the floor next to the teen in the cast, was another boy with diagonal scars down his face, lending him a dangerous edge. He was dressed similarly to the other, so Isaac guessed they were part of the same school or gang, something like that.
There was also two people there he hadn't seen before, a much younger teen, maybe fourteen or fifteen years old with the most ridiculous anime hair Isaac had ever seen. And a much taller, raven haired girl clinging to his arm.
The one constant between this whole group, as far as Isaac could see was their ridiculous fashion choices,
Mister Kujo was rocking a white, nautical themed trenchcoat over a turtleneck sweater, the students had both stuck badges and pins all over their uniforms. and the man with the pen theme to his ensemble looked like he was wearing an eggshell on his head.
Not to mention miss cradlesnatcher and her personal mini Goku.
Frankly these people all looked like they belonged in an insane asylum.
Isaac adjusted his bloody straightjacket and sat down.

Some constructive criticism; the "as bait" after Ellie is redundant, you already said they baited him. Alternatively you could have replaced the first "baited" with another word like goaded, or reigned.

Isaac quickly scanned the room behind him to make sure he wasn’t about to get blindsided again. The glance revealed a lack of anything living; the red demon that had tackled Praetorian was thoroughly dead with its head caved in by repeated blows. The presence of unspent rifle rounds and broken pieces of said rifle neatly answered what it had been bludgeoned to death with and why Praetorian was no longer using the gun in its intended role. Lying scattered around the larger demon was a mix of several of the smaller fireball throwers and numerous pale mutants.

Pivoting on his heel he turned back to the melee into which his companion had started. Isaac raised his weapon to assist, then lowered it a moment later. The chaotic nature of the melee would have made hitting his intended target difficult, besides it didn’t look like Praetorian actually needed the help. He was laying into the figures mobbed around him with the stock of his rifle, delivering bone crushing blows at a rate that Isaac knew he couldn’t match. Somewhere along the way the green armored behemoth had traded the demon horn for a whole mutant, who he was using as a mix of shield and a second weapon.

Isaac took the momentary respite to catch his breath and keep an eye on the other doors in the room. He would be very surprised if all the howling and shooting hadn’t attracted the attention of whatever else may have been lurking in the area. He had been surprised too many times already, and whatever else he was he liked to think of himself as a fast learner.

Turning back to scan the rest of the room, Isaac saw the last of the demons collapse to the metal deck bent into unnatural angle. Praetorian let his meat shield slip from his grasp and, after regarding it for a moment, tossed the ruined rifle off into a far corner of the room.

“What now?” Isaac asked.

Praetorian half turned to face him, like he had forgotten Isaac was there. He regarded Isaac silently before giving him a single, short nod. A nod of approval, Isaac hoped.

Isaac was about to repeat his question when something inhuman bellowed far off in the complex. Praetorian spun to face the direction the sound came from, and after a moment set off at a jog. Sighing and trying to ignore the burning ache that had taken hold of his body and the copper tang of blood in his mouth Isaac forced himself into motion after him. Taking a mental inventory of what he had on his person, Isaac hoped they would be able to avoid too many more fights. He hadn’t had a chance to restock after the fight in the engineering compartment of the Terra Nova and was running uncomfortably low on power cells, or to rest for that matter. He didn’t know how long he could keep up with the seemingly tireless companion he found himself with.

Isaac didn't linger in the briefing room in meditation as he had before. He already knew what decision he had made. The only thing on his mind was the fact that he finally had some time to breathe. Some time to rest. Getting to know the crew seemed kind of trite, but to be honest, there was no need to be arbitrarily reclusive. Isaac decided that perhaps the his time would be best used in getting to know the Normandy and her occupants. Exiting the briefing room once more, Isaac decided to head below again, riding the elevator to deck three. As he entered crew's quarters, a voice from his left, calling at him. The source was sitting down at one of the tables in what appeared to be a mess hall of some sort.

"Well, look who it is."

He turned around to see another of Shepard's squadmates. Remembering his voice, but not his odd, alien, seemingly bandaged face, Isaac returned the salutation with some hesitance. "Oh, hey. I think I remember you."

"Yeah, Shepard brought me to the flotilla to come and meet you while we discussed further prospects. I remember you blowing us off pretty easy. Heard you've changed you mind."

"That I did." Isaac admitted. "What did you say your name was?"

"Garrus Vakarian." the turian replied as he stood up and made his way back to the main battery console. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?"

Isaac followed him as he replied. "I'm no sap for meet-and-greets, but it doesn't hurt to get to know the people you're working with."

The Kodyak shuttle was finally free of the Normandy, and Zaeed felt pleased with himself at being able bend Shepard to his will. The holographic projection of Shepard looked at him sternly.

“Why now Zaeed? You could have left for Omega the second the Collectors were dealt with and we’d never have seen each other again.” He was still using his commander voice as if Zaeed was obligated to connect the dots for him.

“And thrown out the opportunity to take the most advanced ship humanity has ever glued together to Vido’s door? To be honest I half wished we never went to stop the Collectors, at least then I could have had that little shit in my hands and wrung his little neck.”

“The fate of the galaxy was at stake Zaeed! I wasn’t going to jeopardize the mission for your vendetta.”

“Piss off Shepard.” He flipped off the holographic Sheppard and then turned it off.

He marked down the coordinates he’d got from his antique and waited, checking the scanners every now and again. It seemed none of the batarians had picked up his tiny craft, and the Normandy didn’t budge. The shuttle’s fuel draw was nominal when one didn’t need the Kodiak’s mass effect fields, so Zaeed’s was unconcerned with how he’d get back.

Zaeed felt the air stir and had started to move before he knew what he was doing.

"Will that be all?" Garrus said facetiously as he began work on the gunnery console.

Isaac could see this one was by no means the touchy-feely type. Neither was Isaac for that matter, though it was always nice to have people who had his back, which in all honesty, were not many in Isaac's case. In the meantime, he did have some curiosity still lingering in him. "No necessarily." he replied. "if anything, I just want more opinions than one. Shepard and Solus filled me in on what the mission's all about, but it I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask around, see what others can tell me."

"Curiouser and curiouser, huh?" garrus quipped as he turned from his work. "Well, if you want to get my angle on it, lemme give you some background. This isn't mine and Shepard's first rodeo. Did he tell you about what happened two years ago?"

"Yeah"

'Well, I was with him for that. All of it. After he got spaced, I tried doing something similar; gather a group of crazies like me who wanted to see some good happen in the galaxy. Long story short, it didn't do well in the end. Me and the bastard who betrayed us are all that's left."

"Damn.. sorry about that man."

"Ah, you don't have to be. Anyways, Shepard found me picking off mercs by my lonesome and now we're all back together again. I'll tell you this much about him from what I've learned over the years with him, he's sharp as all hell, but you shouldn't have any reason to distrust him. kind of a goody two shoes sometimes, though."

"is he now?"

“Looks like we picked up a hitchhiker, and my does he have the itchy trigger finger. Now listen here you goddam piece of shit, do you know what’s choking you right now?

“What’s that? You can’t answer me, with this magnificent piece of engineering in you windpipe? Let me give you the brief then. The base structure is pretty simple, a carbon fiber casing with steel pistons inside, and guess what? Those steel pistons can move independently of the rest of my body, so I could pull back the weights and punch you without even moving my hand. By the way, it’s coated in the same material as the most expensive of starships, so good luck trying to cut it with an omnitool. “
He dropped his victim to the floor. He waited a few seconds while the Batarian he’d choked gasped for air.

Maybe he monologued a bit too long. The poor creature was still on the ground for a full minute giving Zaeed a chance to have a good look at him. He was a bit underweight for a batarian but was pretty well toned. His skin was a faded ashen color with light brown highlights on the raised areas of his face. He wore a armor of a dirty white color with sunset orange stripes going down the sides.

“I yield, I yield.” The batarian finally coughed.

“Good. What’re you doing on this shuttle? Last I checked they were prepping it for launch with cargo down to Khar’Shan. You’re not telling me you’re the cargo and that the Alliance is suddenly into slavery are you?”

Isaac couldn't help but notice some sobriety drowning out the dry wit in Garrus' voice. "Yeah. I told you about that traitor. Not too long ago, I got a hint that he was still out there. I asked Shepard for a little assistance with the hunt, hoping he'd help me take this bastard down. At first, that seemed to be exactly what we were going to do. After a fun little goose chase, we found him. I was literally a second away from taking the shot when Shepard intentionally got in the way, letting him escape. I'll be honest, I almost wanted to throttle him, but my better judgement got a hold on me first. We kind of had a heart-to-heart about it afterwards, and we both agreed that it wasn't really the right thing to do. Can't say I agree 100 percent. That son of a bitch turned us in and got everyone killed..." Garrus could notice resentment building up in him again. He immediately recognized it, paused, and resolved to let it go. Pettiness and rancor were below him. He continued. "Still though... I can't say Shepard is totally wrong, either."

"No, he's not." Isaac replied. "Kind of a noble mindset for him to have. I know I've been betrayed more than a few times to forgive someone like that right off the bat."

"See, that's what I'm talking about. I think the reason he's been able to do this is because of what kind of person he is. He's crafty, but he'll never use that craft against anyone innocent. He looks beyond himself. That, I think, may be the hardest lesson he's taught me."

Isaac wasn't sure that was what he had seen yet, but with Shepard's concern and passion in mind, the enigmatic manipulator he imagined him to be soon vanished. "He sounds like a pretty good guy>"

"he is." said Garrus. "And he'll pull this off. I can guarantee you that. Now, uh, I don't mean to brush you off or anything, but I'll have to get back to work. This gun needs calibrating."

"Alright. See you soon, Garrus."

"You too."

Seconding for Stalkers. Fuck those things. Every time I'd hear that chirping sound they'd make I'd book it to a corner and stay there. As for how to run them, I did it as they appeared in the game. A half seen head low to the ground peaks around the corner at the party and the second someone takes aim at them they duck back behind cover, snap shots only. Add in the unseen chirping from multiple directions and the sound of clawed feet on the floor...the players ended up setting a breaching charge on a wall and escaping into a maintenance hallway to try and escape them.

It didn't work as well as they'd hoped.

Yeah those fuckers are the worst. I just starting replaying the first game with headphones since I didn't have any when I first played it. Headphones really change how you play the game. I noticed that a lot the enemies tend to let out a little gurgle or growl before they come at you.
Totally unrelated and something I shouldn't have done, but is it just me ,or is there a sudden influx of shitposters in the youtube comment sections? I was rewatching a walkthrough of a DeadSpace 2 and went to look the comment section and a poorly constructed paragraph. Calling the game shit with no obvious criticizing other than it's shit and referring to those who enjoyed it simpletons. I noticed more posts like this in other videos. They often lack proper grammar, shit-tier bait, and are poorly argued. Really sorry about the long blog.

The first two Dead Space games did an amazing job with building atmosphere and sound efdects. I'll admit to using them in the games I run as background sounds, they creep out the people who haven't played the games.

Hunter, Ubermorph and Regenerators are the most irritatingly meanest enemies in the whole series.

At least the Ubermorph looks better. Like a humanoid with a Hive-Mind's head.

Is the ubermorph the one from 2 that's made of that entire crowd the market merged together? I know why you couldn't kill it for game mechanic purposes, but could't you eventually make it run out of biomass to regenerate?

I don't think it's merged form anyone. The game devs themselves had nothing planned for it

The Ubermorph is a mystery.

It works the same way as The Hunter and later Regenerators, but how it was created or why does it look actually alien instead of some alien mutant undead is unknown.

I only know that before the final boss battle, you can push it into the ventilation turbine with either using kinesis on it severed limbs and shooting it with them, or simply go the easier way and use a fully powered blast from the Force Gun to push it in.

It gets sucked and probably minced so hard its regeneration ain't gonna do jack.
>>
>>50840331
I doubt it arose the same way as the hinter did, as IIRC the hunter was when necro tissue was jammed inside the brain of a living test subject.

It showed up when you opened the doors to let the swarm attack the marines though, and IIRC its behaviour was different, it was just walking / leading rather than charging- Maybe it's just something like a synapse thing- In a late stage outbreak approaching convergence, an ubermorph is formed to finish off any lingering resistance, as at that point its likely to have learned how to deal with the necros, so the outbreak forms something to deal with them so convergence can happen?

That or it's the first step on the road to hive mind formation.

Actually, with the brother moons as the end product of convergence, what actually is the hive mind?
>>
>>50840527
>what actually is the hive mind?
Considering it was found sticking out of the ground, perhaps a larval-stage Brethren moon?
>>
>>50840622
convergence hadn't started, tho
>>
>>50840470
And some think the ability to kill it at all is a glitch, a symptom of triggers ending for its regeneration and there being a place to do it

It had only been moments since Isaac had left Garrus alone and gone to the elevator when he opened the doors when he was suddenly greeted by a familiar pair of bright, white eyes. He jumped back a bit in surprise. Tali was likewise excited, albeit not by surprise, but by anticipation. "Isaac, you crazy bosh'tet!" She said, grabbing him and pulling him into the elevator. "Oh my gosh, ken and Gabby are going to be so psyched to see you!"

"Uh, Tali..."

"Keelah, how did you even pull half of that craziness off?!" Tali exclaimed as she confirmed the command to go to deck four. "Do you seriously have rocket propulsion on that suit?!"

"Well, yeah, I-"

"You have GOT to show me how to customize my suit like that!"

"Yeah, well-"

"It's no big trouble. I think we have the proper fabrication capacity. "

"hey, that's great, why don't we-"

"OH! OH! OH! And you HAVE to show us the stasis tech too! We've been playing around with some of the-"

"Tali!!" Isaac said, raising his voice somewhat. "relax!"

"okay... okay sorry about that-"

"Deep breaths now..."

"Isaac.." Tali said, putting a hand to her mask, laughing quietly. "You don't want to get punched again..."

"In *inhale*, out *exhale*"

"Isaac!!"

"okay, one more ti-OOWWW!"

Tali grabbed him by the collar and repeatedly smacked him upside the head, both of them now laughing at full volume, not aware that the hatch had opened.

"Ay, I see we've caught you two at an inopportune moment." Ken said with a smug grin on his face. "Tali, I was willing to cut you some slack for thsoe pictures but-"

"Keelah Ken, will you cut it ou-WAIT, WHAT?!"

"Oh, it's nothing." Gabby said, pushing Ken to the side and nearly sending him to the deck. "We've got more important stuff to talk about, Isaac."

"No, seriously, what pictures-"

"I'm with Gabby here, it's not that important." tali said, cutting Isaac off.

Ken got up form his stumble just in time for Gabby to try and keep him down. "Oh just a couple flattering shots of-"

"SHUSH!" Gabby said, laughing while she attempted to stifle his immaturity. Tali joined in on the dogpile, covering Ken's mouth and putting him in a headlock.

"uh, guys?" Isaac piped up from his corner in the elevator, wierded out by the display of "Team Spirit" he had just sat through. "Didn't you want to talk to me about something?"

"Oh, right." Gabby said, letting go of Ken, tali following suit, letting the beleaguered Scot tumble to the floor. "Ken, pick yourself up. let's head to the cave."

The Illusive man downed another shot of bourbon before replacing his cigarette. "Shepard, you know better than to try and overstep me. I don't like how you've been sneaking around with council officials, not telling me what you and Clarke are up to."

"No one's sneaking anything." Shepard retorted. "I already told you we were planning on getting Isaac in touch with the Council to get his stuff on a production line. Funds will be re-directed to the mission and to the Lazarus Cell, you get my word on any further developments and we all live happily ever after. What are you so worried about?"

"I'll be frank, Shepard." replied the Illusive man as he took another drag of the cigarette. "I don't like it when people start getting quiet. I also don't like it when something this revolutionary is right in our hands and the first thing we do is hand it over to a bunch of incompetent bureaucrats."

"Isaac already plans to get a Shockdrive installed on the Normandy within the next two months."

"Well, that's just fine and good, but what about the rest of us?!" The Illusive man was starting to grow impatient with Shepard's seeming defiance.

"We have to play smart with that. we get greedy with it and the council won't be so approving. They most likely wouldn't even let us in the door! they've already gotten on my case for the Cerberus affiliation. Don't you think being self-serving would just make things worse?" Shepard concealed his nervousness very well with wit and reason, but nevertheless, he could now see that time was quickly running out. His relationship with the Cerberus leader was tenuous and shady enough to begin with. Now that Shepard was actually planning to split, the Illusive man was becoming more anxious and controlling. If there was any time he would suspect Shepard to defect, it would be now, and that did not bode well for the Commander. he realized that he had to get this done quickly and quietly. Cerberus was a hornet's nest he did not want to disturb until he knew he was a a safe enough distance. it was getting that distance that would prove difficult.

"A shrewd observation, Shepard." the Illusive man begrudgingly admitted. "But you have to realize they won't do much. You know their bias. You know their political scheming. They'll sell it all for a quick buck, but they won't actually utilize it to stop the reaper threat. In the meantime, we could get a lot more done in less time by ourselves."

"I think I can apply enough pressure to make sure they comply, and if they won't, we can always just sneak it behind their back and urge them to implement it on whichever shipbuilding industries we find most important. that way, if the reapers do hit before we're ready, we can get everyone out of harms way without using relays. that way, the Reapers can't use them against us by shutting one down."

"I'd rather go on the offensive than the defensive, Shepard. If we have our hands on it first, we could do some serious damage. Damage that, if if the council gets first dibs on the tech, will not be done. I'm telling you, they won't focus on anything important"

Shepard was starting to get impatient with the Illusive man's bargaining. "There's nothign I can do to reverse the situation now. We're already set to see them in three days. Like I said, I can wile them into getting their butts in gear. They're idiots yes, but they're the kind of Idiot who's easily suckered in to what you need them to do. Just ask Aria T'Loak. She's got the Asari counselor in her pocket and all it took was enough muscle and money. We have both."

"I just hope you know what you're doing Shepard. You're dismissed."

Shepard exited the briefing room exasperated and nervous. He knew his plan had to be enacted quick or the Illusive Man would catch on if he hadn't already. He was now in a race against the clock, only he had no idea what the clock was reading. The only safe thing to assume was that time was quite close to running out. he had to act fast. "Kelly." he said, calling for the yeoman.

"Yes, Commander?"

"Wherever Isaac is, call for him. I'm got something important to talk about with him."

"Yes sir. I'll admit though. I don't know how he'll feel about two interviews in just as many hours."

"I'm aware of that. I wouldn't have him brought in if this wasn't something very pressing. Go ahead and have him meet me in the briefing room."

'Aye sir."

"You wanted to talk? I see that we're docking, is there somewhere you wanted to go?"

"Actually yes." Shepard replied as the hatch closed behind him. "Did I ever tell you about my divorce?"

Isaac swallowed his question before it escaped his throat, noticing Shepard's deadpan expression and piercing glare. "I think you touched up on it a little bit last time, yeah. Does anyone else know you're splitting up?"

"They'll know eventually. I don't want her getting word. She's crazy as hell and she'll be on me like ink when she finds out. She's still unaware I'm planning on taking the ring off, but she's been suspicious of me lately, especially after our last fight."

It's funny. for the past few years, I've been wading up to my waist in danger and conspiracy. Had a good talk with her after we hauled the heavy stuff into the Normandy (Shockdrive, uni guns, and some of the crap I had brought in from the SC ships. She's already got her resignation message ready. Good for her. Sooner she can get out of that crap, the better. She's even been planning on leaving the fleet. Most quarians stay, seeing as how most of their kind is there and family ties are usually pretty close. hers aren't as close, unfortunately, and with her leaving the marines, there's really nothing left for her here. I'd be tempted to ask her to come aboard the Normandy, but that's Shepard's call anyway. She said she didn't know where she's gonna go. I wish I knew what to tell her. She mentioned some hole called "Omega" where she has some connections. I hope things go over well for her.

>We cast off for the Citadel later on tonight. Didn't much to do today but twiddle my thumbs and wait. Me and Shepard are still good on our little secret, though we're not the only ones anymore. We basically had a little conference with his squad and we had to do it in my work-space aboard the rayya to avoid any snooping in on Cerberus' part. Shepard had to be especially wary with those two cerberus reps, Miranda and Jacob. Apparently he talked to them about it a little beforehand. Jacob seems to be a good man and he's in this for the right reasons. Don't know what else to make of him though. Miranda seemed pretty distraught. I was able to snoop in a little bit on their conversation (He gave me the access key that would let me crawl around in the vents). Apparently he saved her little sister from her dad a while back, and he found some garbage that put the Illusive man behind it. Figures. Anyway, she was really conflicted about leaving Cerberus and ever threatened to snitch. I wasn't wrong about Shepard knowing how to work his way around things, though. He was able to convince her, but not before a very heated exchange. It's all very interesting. Everyone in the squad knows basically what's going to happen. Tonight, Shepard's already got the Council aware of it and that's the easy part. The hard part is where I come in, to save Shepard's skin and hit up the Alliance for him. I asked him what he's going to do with the crew. He said the council will take care of it, and that any one who wants to stay can stay. I sure hope Ken and Gabby stay. I dunno about anyone else here, but I think I click with those dorks (and Tali) the most. It's gonna be really interesting to watch this all play out.

Is Isaac a good pilot?
>>
>>50851750
He's probably competent, but from what little we see of his flying he's no ace.
>>
>>50846716
>we're docking
Good thing it's not dicking.
>>
What class is Shepard in this story? I've only played as Soldier and Adept, never tried any of the others.
>>
>>50852374
We haven't seen him in combat yet. I've usually played a soldier or a vanguard, so we'll see what happens.
>>
>>50852604
There'd be some delicious symmetry if he turned out to be an Engineer.
>>
>>50852649
I'd have thought that if Shepard was an engineer, we'd have seen some things from him on a more personal interest, ditto with biotics in the sense of relating stasis and such to biotics.

So if I had to guess, I'd say this shepard is probably a soldier.
>>
>>50852677
That might make more sense. Shepard and Isaac are are good terms right now, but it's not like they're as buddy buddy as Isaac is with the engineering team right now.
>>
>>50852649
It would be funny if he turned out to be an Adept too. Isaac's first encounter with biotics is going to go something like:

>Look I can freeze stuff in place
>Isaac holds up stasis module
>Look I can pick up stuff with my mind
>Isaac holds up kinesis module
>Look I can hurt things with kinetic force
>Isaac holds up contact beam

Though they did nerf biotics between ME1 and 2. I have fond memories of Liara picking up geth and krograns and throwing them into orbit.
>>
>>50852677
I'm figuring that he's some flavor of soldier as well just. Still would be neat in my mind if this turned into the All Engineers Party.

Isaac gazed all around at the shining walls and pristine gleam of the Presidium. Having lived in cramped space and practical squalor most of his adult life, Isaac found it hard to adjust to the cleanliness, luster, and sterility that the upper wards of the Citadel so exuberantly displayed. As he and Shepard entered the hatch leading to their destination, they saw a man dressed in pompous colors, arrayed in an otherwise modest garment. Upon their entrance, he straightway turned his attention from the holographic figures before him to them.

"How many times do i have to tell you, he'll- Shepard!" Councilor Anderson said. "It's good to see you again!"

"You too, Councilor." Shepard replied, shaking him warmly by the hand and pointing him to Isaac. "You've got a visitor."

"I think we've spoken before." Isaac said, accepting Anderson's proffered hand. "Nice to see you in person."

"You too, Mr Clarke."

Another voice to Isaac's right caught his attention. "Mr Clarke."

"Ah that's right." Isaac said, addressing the other councilors. "Pleasure to see you again." he was lying somewhat, but there were worse people to be interfacing with.

The Asari councilor spoke up first. "Feelings mutual, Mr Clarke. As you know, you are here as a result of the Armstrong Nebula slaver attack on the Migrant Fleet. We are here to discuss the immediate future of your presentation."

"We are also eager to discuss the application of what has already been brought forth." added the salarian councilor. "Commander Shepard has informed us that you would be willing to help us adapt your 'Shockpoint Drive' to the galactic shipbuilding industry, among other things you have in store."

The turian councilor spoke up next. "And as for you, Shepard, we wanted to know the status of your current relationship with Cerberus. After our last meeting, we've been quite eager to know how close you are to severing it."

"We can get to that later" the Commander replied. "Right now, we can focus on more pressing matters, like Isaac's tech. I assume a venue has been picked out for the demonstration?"

"Taken care of." replied the Asari. "We've already scheduled it to begin in two weeks at the Cultural Hall, right here in the Presidium. That should not only give you time to register citizenship, acclimate to galactic life, and perhaps enjoy a break from your recent activities."

"Yes, I was going to mention that." the turian added. "You seem to be more than the every-man you proclaimed yourself to be. Don't read us wrong we are still very much interested in what you have to share with us, but we are somewhat concerned about your background."

The Salarian councilor spoke up next. "We have heard fragmented reports from the Migrant Fleet about you having been some sort of special forces operator where you were from, but that's just one piece of the puzzle, and right now none of them fit together. We've heard reports of you having been a commando, a vigilante, a penal soldier, a hacker, a dangerous felon, a government agent, and more."

"so with that said, we are somewhat interested in who you were before you came here." the Asari added. "We don't wish to seem imposing, but we do need to know who we're working with."

Isaac exchanged a brief look with Shepard, and in that moment he knew he could be trusted with Isaac's secrets. He had no need to worry about any Machiavellian violations of privacy or trust from the commander. As he turned back to the councilors, he decided to placate them with a bogus answer. "I was a government agent, yes. Technical Specialist. If there was anything that could be hacked, destroyed, or snooped into, I was your guy." Isaac had to hide his amusement. Technically, he did work with Norton and Carver. He was telling the truth after all, right?

Unfortunately, Isaac's poker face was not as good as he had thought. "There is no need for sarcastic jests, Mr Clarke." The Turian replied in arrogant venom. "Remember where you are and whom you address. We're not asking for a long story, but we do ask that you give us the truth concisely and accurately, is that clear?"

"Yes sir." Isaac said soberly before quickly reciting his history. he wasn't as intimate in detail as he had been with Shepard, but he told them enough for them to trust him, namely his profession and a brief history of his life before his escapades with the markers came into play. He briefly covered the events that led him to the reality in which he was now entrapped, telling them about Tau Volantis and showing them some footage to back himself up. Each of them bore varying degrees of curiosity, shock, amazement, and horror on their countenances as they observed Clarke's necromorphic foes. He concluded with the brother moons and the machine, showing them some slightly corrupted footage of that fateful, final conflict.

"That was.. interesting..." commented the Asari.

"Yes, quite..." added Anderson. "It's a good thing that hasn't followed you here."

"You're telling me." Isaac replied. "There is something almost just as dangerous out there though." Shepard could smell disaster lying up ahead. He knew exactly what Isaac was going to say before he eve said it. Trying to subtly get Isaac's attention with a stern look and a clearing of his throat, Shepard cringed as his ploy failed and Isaac spilled the beans. "We have the reapers to worry about."

"Ah, Shepard..." the Turian coincilor. "You've sold Mr Clarke on your little conspiracy theory?"

The commander began to regret forgetting to inform Isaac of the Council's stand on the reapers. Before he could start damage control, Isaac once again demonstrated his lack of tact. "What do you mean, 'conspiracy theory'?! Hasn't anyone noticed all the crap happening in the Terminus systems?"

"The terminus is out of our jurisdiction" replied the Salarian. "We have no right to meddle in their affairs."

"Well, someone's gotta be keeping track! for crying out loud, Councilor Anderson, aren't you humanity's representative on this council? Don't these colonists fall under your jurisdiction?"

"Not once they leave council space, I'm not." Anderson replied with some irritation, both at the fact that his fellow council members were being so hard headed, and that Isaac had blundered into this mess with as much grace as a varren in a butcher shop. If there was any way to get the council convinced of the reaper threat, it wouldn't be this way. If anything, this would just harden them to the idea. the prospect of getting any traction in the uphill battle to win over the council had been seemingly dashed by the wet, muddy aftermath of the storm that was Isaac Clarke.

Soon enough, however, both Anderson ad Shepard started to realize that Isaac may not have been as much of a bumbler as they thought. Or at least, a more persuasive bumbler than they had given him credit for. Just when it seemed the council was about to shut him out, Isaac re-opened the footage of the brethren moons, brow furrowed, voice reduced to a subtle, low growl. "Take another good look at this." Isaac said sternly as the council once again set their eyes on the horrible, bloody spectacle of tendrils and teeth. "Tell me whether or not you would believe me if I told you that was coming?"

That scene seemed to repeat itself, with minor variations, over and over again. Sometimes Isaac and Praetorian would get the drop on a group of demons and their minions. In such cases a thrown grenade or two would herald their attack, injuring the more powerful hell spawn and scattering the weaker ones around the room, sometimes in pieces. Other times they would be taken by surprise, either by being attacked from around blind corners or unseen side corridors, more often by the sudden appearance of demons just appearing in flashes of light around them. However the fight began it ended with Isaac wondering how much farther they had to go.

It all quickly ran together in Isaac’s mind. He didn’t think he could pick out any one specific moment in the long slog toward that maglev transit terminal in his mind, the whole long trip blending together into a chaotic series of snap shots of frantic fighting and horrific inhuman figures being blasted, crushed and broken by Isaac’s repurposed engineering tools and Praetorians weapons and fists. Finally after what felt like days but his HUD informed him had been less than two hours Isaac stood under a sign which proclaimed the dim but perversely clean and orderly atrium to be the North Station Transit Terminal.
>>
>>50861694
The far wall looked at first glance to be large floor to ceiling windows looking out over a stunning clear blue lake with soaring snow-capped mountains rising in the background and deep green pine forests marching up toward the snow line. The effect was spoiled by the knowledge that no such vista existed on Mars, a line of bullet holes that had stitched their way across one of the ‘windows’, leaving a gap and flickering images and static snow right in the middle of the vista and a pool of old partly dried blood on the floor. Other than those minor inconsistencies it really did make a convincing facade of being a pleasant transit station.

“Hey, hold on a minute,” Isaac called to Praetorian who was making for the doorway labeled Departures. When he didn’t slow his pace, or even look around at the shouted words, Isaac ground his teeth in frustration.

“Hey! I’m talking to you!” Isaac shouted. “Stop damn it! Wait!”

Where the merely loud words got no response, the shouts finally got a response. Praetorian halted his determined stride and turned back to face Isaac, the shotgun he had picked up Isaac didn’t know where cradled in his arms. What he thought of the interruption Isaac didn’t know for sure, but if his body language was anything to go off it was less than pleased. He radiated disapproval and barely restrained aggression, or as much as a mute pile of scarred, pitted, blood spattered armor plates and an anonymous blank visage can.

Before Isaac could speak again, the voice of Director Hayes seemed to come from nowhere. “Why have you stopped? We’re running out of time.”
>>
>>50861714
“Look, Hayes, I’m running low on supplies and I’m exhausted,” Isaac replied. “I haven’t eaten anything in two days and frankly I can’t remember the last time I had a chance to sit down, let alone sleep.”

“I understand your tired Mister Clarke,” Hayes answered consolingly. “But we really don’t have-“

“No, fuck you,” Isaac shot back, cutting Hayes off. “Aren’t you listening? Much longer I’m going to be a burden instead of a help. You want me to carry out complex repairs or whatever on equipment I’m unfamiliar with when we get to wherever we’re going? I can tell you right now, given how I am now, it isn’t happening. I can barely see straight anymore!”

Hayes was silent for a long moment. Long enough that Isaac wasn’t sure he was going to reply. He started to draw in a breath to keep yelling when Hayes finally replied. “Alright Mister Clarke, you’ve made your point. Doctor Pierce locked out the maglev; Vega can’t call a car until the lockout has been lifted. There’s a refuge chamber in the next hallway. You can rest there while your companion continues on to the main transit terminal and turns control back over to Vega. It will take longer without you I’m afraid but there’s no helping that it seems.”

“Thank you,” Isaac replied, finally moving towards the doorway and following Praetorian into the next hallway. “What am I looking for?”
>>
>>50861733
“The hatch on your left,” Hayes replied. “It’s an engineer’s workshop that’s been hardened to act as a shelter in the event of disaster. There should be food and water there at least.”

“Right,” Isaac grunted. He slapped the control panel next to the indicated door, which proved to be thicker than it looked as it swung inward. He cycled the door behind him after stepping though and looked around the room. It looked…like just about every other engineer’s closet he had been in and used. Small, dim, a work bench, a stand of lockers along one wall and a bench along the other with boxes that Isaac would bet his next month’s pay would contain tools mixed with odds and ends. Digging around in one of the lockers turned up a stack of prepackaged food and bottled water.

Isaac briefly considered tearing open one of the food pouches and eating, but in the end settled for draining one of the bottles and putting a dent in another. Food could come later. For now, sleep was the top order. He double checked the door was secured and locked, used the kineses module to move the work bench to block the door because his paranoia had not steered him wrong yet, then lay down on the floor under the bench.

“Get some rest,” Hayes said over the tablet strapped to Isaac’s thigh. “As soon as I have control over the transit system I’m sending a maglev to get you to the Ardent Tower. I’ll have Vega keep an eye on the hallway and alert you if anything comes by.”

Isaac grunted a nonverbal reply and shifted around on the metal floor to get comfortable. He thought about looking for a set of coveralls or something to use as a pillow, but sleep claimed him before he finished the thought.

The entire council went silent for just a moment before the Salarian Councilor spoke up. "Well.... without any footage, we would be more hard-pressed to believe you, I suppose."

"Alright. Why?"

"Mr Clarke-"

"I mean, what if I told you that we heard reports of the geth in Turian colonial space. Would you at least investigate?"

"Of course we would!" replied the Turian in palpable defiance.

"What if I didn't have any footage?"

The Asari tried her best to pacify the increasingly impudent engineer. 'Mr Clarke, we understand your point, but-"

"But what?!" replied Isaac in indignation.

"The geth are a credible threat!" the Salarian replied impatiently. "An investigation of a credible report of geth activity would be worth it because we know the geth are a threat! They've harassed expeditions through the Perseus veil multiple times and have attacked several times within council space! We actually know they're out there and hostile. The Reapers are a mythological pipe dream, Mister Clarke! There's no evidence that they're out there, at least nothing worth our time investigating. So mister Clarke, unless you and Shepard have irrefutable proof that these beings actually exist and are a legitimate threat, I'm afraid we cannot take your doomsday warnings seriously!"

"Oh, and what the hell was Sovereign then?!" Isaac said as he pulled up some saved footage of Sovereign's attack over his omni-tool. "This was on the extranet and there's tons of videos like it with differing viewpoints. It can't be old news to you. I've been told you think that thing was a geth warship. Why? isn't it obvious that the geth have never fielded anything like that before?"

((It'll be time for a new thread soon lads, lets not forget to have the pastebins/thread summary up))

The Kodyak came with a harpoon gun for covert ship insertions that didn’t require having to even dock on the hull’s surface.

Zaeed used it more than once during his career, and he loved the ride every time. The line left between the shuttle and the RSF Rasputin was stiff and rigid, so that when Zaeed created a zipline with his omni-tool. All he needed was a shove off the shuttle and the air in his boots to maneuver him.

Zaeed had a minute to enjoy the peace that went with going out into space. Khar’Shan was the size of a tennis ball out in the distance and its sun outlined it in a brilliant aura. Zaeeds breathing rung out in his helmet as the silence enveloped him.

>I’ve never once seen a ship like this, the design is unlike anything in the field. Not to mention that there hasn’t been a spaceship commissioned outside of the Systems Alliance in centuries. To create such a thing in secret? That was nigh impossible.

Zaeeds mag-lock boots engaged and the wonder of it all was lost on him. He was now firmly fixed on getting to the bottom of this mystery. He’d landed near the ship's primary thrusters. Zaeed had seen the engines were cold from the Kodiak and assumed them to be his best bet. Usually you could count on the engines frying any would be boarding party, but on a cold ship it meant an easy way to bypass virtually all security measures.

Hoping that the engines wouldn’t suddenly flare back to life Zaeed hustled to the end of the booster. The exhaust stretched out for what could easily have been a city block. By the time Zaeed reached the end he had a good huff to his breath.

He finally arrived at a gargantuan door that wrote ENGINE ROOM & FUEL CHAMBERS. There didn’t seem to be a maintenance door, just two scaffolds, with two interfaces on either side.

I'm surprised that the Council are actually listening to Isaac, considering his status at this point is "Well-Supplied Vagrant".

I mean, they're politicians, for goodness sake. If they meet something they don't like, they'll just ignore it and leave it to whoever comes after them to sort out.

Like they did when Shepard first told them about the Reapers. Why should this be any different?

The Turian councilor was quickly losing his patience. "Mr Clarke, the geth engineer their own technology periodically. Every now and then, Council space forces clash against them to find some new tactic or weapon being utilized, so if I may be so bold, I ask you stop pursuing this myth which so far has had nothing to show for itself!"

Then, Isaac hatched an idea. "You want proof huh? Shepard, was there any footage recovered from your operation on Horizon?" Shepard knew he couldn't explain why it was a bad idea to do so. Yes, there was footage from before, during, and after Shepard's operation gathered from colonial surveillance, and EDI had it in her databanks. The problem was that if Shepard pulled it up from EDI's archives to his omni-tool, there was a good chance that Cerberus would learn about it very fast. The result of them trying to pry apart the details would not end well. Shepard wondered what he could do to placate Isaac and maintain confidentiality. Vainly he tried to clear his throat and get Isaac's attention. Isaac asked him again for the Horizon footage. "C'mon, Shepard. We've got to show them."

Shepard simply replied in a tone he oped would be stern enough to get Isaac to understand that secrecy was still key. "Isaac, we can't do that."

"Why not?" Asked the Asari councilor. "If you do have proof that the reapers are in fact a real threat, why don't you show us?

'Alright, I'll do it." Isaac said begrudgingly as he accessed EDI's archives from his own Omni-tool.

((Sorry for the slow pace y'all, I'm still keeping up with the threads even if I can't post))

So Omni-Handcuffs were resistant to the Omni-tools torch. “Fuck that kwarsan!” Quoros gritted his teeth, this might be the roughest patch of his new career as an Alliance Consultant yet. It didn’t help that two of his eyes were covered by this helmet too. He tried to be delicate about getting out of his restraints, last thing he needed was a hole in his armor while the door of the Kodyak was still ajar.

After a good while Quoros gave up and took a breather. Anyone with more brains than a vorcha would make omni-cuffs resistant to torches. He’d sooner chop his hand off before he did anything significant. His head still pounded, and he could almost feel that metal hand clasping his throat.

“Let’s go Scorch, think outside of the box. You’re batarian we always have something up our sleeve! What do you have that he doesn’t?”

Scrolling through his Omni-tool programs he finally found something. It was highly illegal, provided solely by Batarian State Arms and outside of the Terminus no one used it. Working Alliance for a time almost drove the configuration from his mind, but this most certainly did the trick.

The bindings snapped as his armor responded to his command and assembled his Blade Armor. The growing wrist blades dislodged his cuffs as they expanded, leaving him free oncemore.

“Now you’ve got an easy choice here Scorch, do what the Hegemony always told you and alert the authorities, do what being in the Terminus taught you and steal the ship and run, or just go and harp over to the Alliance.”

“Decisions, decisions.”

“Alright I’m not the most stellar pilot but there hardly is anything for me to hit out here.” Scorch sat down at the controls to the Kodiak and tried to find the control to retract the harpoon.
*Access Denied* Red letters flashed across the screen.
“What? Damn that kwarsan! He locked the controls! Fuck, try again.
*Access Denied* Scorch’s mind raced, he was at a loss for anything to do. Again, he tried to take over the controls, trying to make the system work with him somehow.
“Cooooome on! I don’t have the air to stay up here! Lets see it!”
*Access Denied* He tried to get the Kodiak to broadcast a signal, both to the Normandy and in the general vicinity. But there was no response. Scorch could feel a wave of exasperation, as he knew he was out of options. Unable to contain himself he switched on the recording option on his omni-tool.
“That’s it I’m done! I’m done! I’m done! I was just taking a nap and now I’m in the vacuum of space. And my only chance to escape is to get some old kwarsan who nearly choked me to death with his iron fucking hand to lift the lockdown. And of all places where does he wanna go? A derelict spaceship.”
“If the Hegemony finds this let them know that I liked working Alliance better, how’s that for propaganda!”

Turning off the recording Scorch felt mildly better about his prospects. Scorch did a quick pat down of his gear and then felt much worse. He was equipped with only a katana shotgun, a predator pistol, one detonation charge, and only one application of medigel. Oh, and a spare helmet. A spare helmet made for batarian faces.

“If I make it out of here I’m giving myself a medal. Here goes nothing, WAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

I'm starting right after the end of ME 2, collectors are beaten and Shepard is about to hand himself over to the Alliance. On the way over they stop for some small mission over in Batarian space. Zaeed gets a mysterious message from the depths of space and finds a derelict ship that is unlike any other in the ME universe (interestingly though it has its Ship sign written in Russian)

Oh, as for my OC, I wanted to play around with Batarians bc they don't have alot written about them in the ME universe. I haven't yet uncovered how the marker got into the ME dimension, but Scorch will play a role in discovering it.

The silence was deafening, as if the universe had to expound on the moment where Zaeed Masani, the galaxy's most feared mercenary was about to be beaten by a door interface. The holo screen read “Please wait for your partner RSF Engineer.”
Zaeed looked forlornly at the controls at the other end of the exhaust port nearly 20ft away.

“Dogs balls, it takes two to open the fuel chambers. Well looks like I have to go and find myself a vent to crawl in. What a shitty day I’m having.”
“Not as shitty as mine human.”
The pistol met no one, but he could see the tiny figure of the batarian walking towards him.
“I swear if you were about fifty paces closer I could make batarian salsa with your brain matter.”
The figure stopped dead in its tracks, hand up in the air in a gesture of peace.
“Look, maybe we got off on the wrong foot here. You’re Zaeed Masani right?”
“Damn right I am, I see you got out of your handcuffs, so there must be a reason why you didn’t turn tail and run?”
“You mean apart from you locking the terminal? Not really.”
Zaeed pondered this for a moment. He didn’t remember having put the lock on the Kodiaks controls, but he didn’t want to let the Batarian know that.

Zaeed holstered his pistol. “Right, well save yourself the walk and Zero-G jump over here. It just so happens that I need you.”

Shepard cringed somewhat at Isaac's lack of subtlety and interpersonal wit. How could he not see the consequences of what he's doing? How could he be so defiant and uncouth around dignitaries like this? Shepard was by no means gentle with those who needed extra persuasion, but he knew how to flatter and respect rank and prestige when necessary. Isaac didn't seem to be as respectful, and it showed in the irritated expressions bore by the councilors. Each of them were quite off-put by Isaac's brash behavior, and though their long-instilled habits of personal restraint and formality were for holding fast for the moment, it would not take much more provocation from this haggard engineer to set one of them off. Soon enough however, their collective visage changed to surprise and some humiliation as Isaac pulled up the surveillance feeds. They saw the collectors abducting the colonists and loading them in strange brown and orange pods, hauling them off to a massive ship sitting just outside the colony. As Anderson saw his fellow councilors silently change their attitude, he couldn't help but feel somewhat relieved, if not a little stressed, at Isaac's relatively non-diplomatic approach to persuasion. "Well, there you have it." Anderson said. "The collectors really are up to something big."

"And with that, you going to have to see it as it is." Isaac said, not relenting from his aggressive conversational approach. "These guys are working with the reapers to some unknown end. We're working on a way to get through the Omega 4 Relay, or at least know where it leads so that if we can't find or reverse engineer a proper IFF, we can retrofit ourselves with shockpoint technology so we can just shock out to it."

To Isaac's disgust, the council members persisted in their stubborn laziness. They didn't pay much attention his hand tapping something as they spoke, the Asari leading them out. "Mr Clarke, we now realize the collectors may be an actual threat, but as you now know, we cannot expand our influence beyond our own space. To involve ourselves, either directly through the alliance, or through any investigative force would be scandalous on our part. The people in the Terminus colonies left Council space for a reason."

The Turian continued. "As a result, we cannot look any further into the reaper myth nor dedicate any significant amount of time or resources to this. Until either a connection is made with these abductions to the reapers, or the collectors start hitting council space, we will remain uninvolved."

A hostile scowl crept onto Isaac brow as they continued to speak. His eyes went back and forth from them to the work he was doing on his Omni-tool. When his RIG display came up however, they paused and were about to ask him what he was doing until he spoke up. "Alright then." he said. "I see what's up."

"What would that be, Mr Clarke?" the Salarian coyly asked.

Shepard was determined to make sure Isaac didn't burn his bridge to the Council "Alright look, I already alerted all of you as to what I've planned to do. You know we're gonna need your help, and with my Spectre status I can sneak in and out of the Terminus no problem. We've already discussed one important item of business, and I'm glad we've gotten it taken care of. Isaac's tech will be a huge boon both to galactic economy and Space travel. Now as for future cooperation, all we've come to ask is for needed resources and assistance, whatever that may entail, or whatever process we have to follow. The bottom line is, can we obtain help with the investigation?"

When the time is right. I want it to happen but i can't just be filler like it was last time. I also have to go and keep eighteen others in company with me tonight, so i might be scarce for a while.

In the meantime, keep making OC! Oh, and let's see if we can find the right system to get a game going. People have suggested pathfinder, but that died before it had a chance to take off.

This whole thing is technically a massive re-write. After reading it, I remembered how fun it was, but everything was pretty much ad hoc. Done on the spot and with little connection save for a chronology. it was all a mishmash of different happenings strung together that would have probably worked better as separate little "what if" scenarios written separately.Trust me, you'll see a lot of things come back that you won't be expecting, but they'll be introduced very differently.

Will Isaac ever take the to Tau Volantis and see if it it a living planet in this reality? I always thought that is where he should have shocked to first.

As for that, what setting will we start off with? Are we playing as characters form the game, or as Earthgov/Unitilogist forces? Are we gonna be part of something from the games, or a made up in-universe situation (EGov soldiers defending a marker lab from uni zealots, etc?

I don't get the council, it's like the idea that they aren't the ultimate authority in the galaxy activly offends them so much that they just hee-haw any evidence until it goes away, so fearful of the idea that they are pawns they play the role even more
