I had an idea popping around my head with regards to AdMech interacting with "imperial" Cryptechs.

I know that Hektor Heresy already did their own cool take on space-vampires, but since in fantasy, Vampires were created by mortal humans messing around with Tomb-King magic, Nobledark vampires could be a radical admech trying to replecate the mind-transferance process.

Either
>Crazy AdMech tries to transfer himself fully into a machine body and it doesn't work as well.
>Crazy AdMech tries to reverse the mind-transfer of a minor-lord back into a "willing" host body, and it works with unexpected side-effects.
>After seeing the success of the gestalt soul that is The Steward (because by all counts The Steward was MUCH more successful than the Emperor,) the surviving free Ctan-Shards that are large enough for sapience enact a last-ditch plan to copy the process, using the meliability of human souls, to create a gestalt entity of Ctan-Shards housed within a human-host-body that would be for the physical world what the Emperor was for the Warp. Either their own selfishness, The Deciever, or both, fuck it up, and we get the first Space Vampire.

Bah, I wrote about a third of my scenario and then got writer's block. I'll post what I've got to bump the thread, though.

"Is this as light as you can make these?" Ylsanor asked with a frown.

Magos Aronax barely suppressed a hiss of irritation as he realized that the Eldar was actually handling a freshly-constructed augmetic arm. Luckily it was only an example of the latest model, not one intended for actual use! He stalked back and snatched the augmetic away as gently as he could. "Balance between weight, structural strength, and cost of materials. Designs for standard military use need to be more durable than foil and less expensive than a small moon."

And why in the name of the Omnissiah had he bothered to answer the question? Granted, it was far less intrusive than some from her seemingly endless stream. While it was painfully obvious that the Bonesinger was very young-- for a member of her species-- despite being taller than Aronax, if she was able to gain permission to tour a Mechanicus facility, she was more than old enough to have a sense of decorum. Ignorance was never an excuse.

Honestly, you've pretty much got free rein over how you depict it. Wiki and Lexicanum only give a few lines about Merika, as does the pic related we're basing most of our Unification writefaggotry on.

>So they still have the ability to eat souls, but they're stuck in a fleshy body now?
Basically, that's the idea behind the third concept. The original projenitor[s] would be true Ctan conciousness traped in mortal bod[y/ies]. Later generations would be mortals with ctan-shard essence corrupting them.

I was thinking that they could release a weaker but ubiquitous control signal to lesser Necrons: it couldn't override the stronger signal of a surviving lord, but the many "orphaned" legions who's lords failed in sleep, can be summoned.

Either that, or their blood is some sort of watered-down necrodermis that lets them convert humans into watered-down pariahs.

>More garbage, hot and ready. Should be edited, but it's taken too long as it is.

Krieg, of the Segmentum Tempestum, Uhulis Sector, at the start of 433.M40 was an entirely different world than what we know in the modern day. Back then, it was a hiveworld with a middling population of 97 billion souls, and a restless aristocracy. A manufacture and trade hub with a surprising knack for technology outside of the Adeptus Mechanicus, interstellar market trends and the subtle shifts of the warp's currents had, over the millenia reduced its prestige and market value- and the attack of Hive Fleet Leviathan led the Administratum to introduce a price ceiling on the products of Krieg to help the war effort. The ruling councils of Autokrats, already impoverished by misfortune (And, truth be told, some serious missteps of their own) were outraged. For them, bound as they were to Krieg itself, the threat of alien invasion was distant, and they saw themselves made slaves to the whole of the sector for the sake of lazy foreigners that couldn't even pay a fair price for their orbital defenses. For that was the specialty of Krieg, big guns. Guns that could be mounted on the planet, and give orbital invaders a beating, and hopefully ward them off. This also made the planet Krieg extraordinarily dangerous to attack. Any attack from above would be costly indeed.

So, when a grand conclave of Autokrats were called, the attendees freely ruminated and conspired against the Imperium, secure in the shadows of their defenses. The Autokrats agreed that a formal complaint should be lodged to the Imperium. And that if they weren't met properly, that the councils would meet again, and elect a High Autokrat, an office only called for in times of crisis, when the whole of the planet had to act together. On paper at least, the Autokrats were united in their cause; respect, or war.
>>
However, the Autokrats were a minority in the grand scheme of things. For the vast majority of the planet that labored, lived, and died in the hives, "For Throne and Man," was their byword, and even as the Autokrats fumed in their spires, the factory workers set their shoulders, shook their heads, and redoubled their labors. It was possible that this upset would have remained just that- a grumbling, that would be addressed when the Administratum representatives arrived to hear complaints. An agreement might have been reached, or a display of force on the truculent Autokrats, and Krieg would have returned to normalcy, minus a few belligerent aristocrats.

However, the representatives of the Administratum never arrived, and Krieg suffered a further two separate blows.

The fate of the Administratum mission has yet to be revealed. The only clue recovered was a letter from Administrative Senioris Sandos to his wife, noting with pleasure that he might return in time for Sanguinalia celebrations, that he'd secured passage through the webway "With a trustworthy sort." All Eldar guides within the sector capable of granting access to the webway deny ever offering that to a human, much less a lowly bureaucrat. There is a sizable reward still on offer for the missing Administrative, and the Administratum further cautions all citizens that the webway is restricted to a select few- anyone offering them a 'shortcut' should be considered a criminal, and treated as such.

As the year passed on, and the Administratum's delegation failed to appear, the Autokrats convinced themselves that this was a calculated slight from the Administratum. For the Autokrats of Krieg, it was obvious that the Imperium had no care for them, and didn't even care to tell them to their face. Krieg is a relatively ancient world, and has had a fiercely xenophobic streak in their culture- and for those Kriegers that believed in the Imperium, and the vision of the Throne, the silence shook them.
>>
The issue was further deepened due to the astropathic messaging system- due to Krieg's growing insignificance, they had few astropaths, and those few were held privately by Autokrats. They may well have kept the news of the disappeared delegation quiet. Or assumed that, like any other words from beyond Krieg, any assurances that the delegation had been lost could only be treated as lies.

Then there was the Segmentum Tempestum Famine. The Ulthran Cartel had elected to invest in agri-futures- and with that investment came a stampede of Rogue Traders, Demiurge Trade Clans, and savvy planetary governors following the trend. Most notably was the influence of at least one Necron lord. Though indirectly involved in the market, for reasons unknown, a spate of necron attacks were aimed solely at agriworlds in the segmentum for a period of seven years, further aggravating food supplies. The market dried up, and shiftless and dishonest grain haulers meant for hive and forge worlds dependent on their products skimmed from the top to sell to this feeding frenzy. In the chaos of the Hive Fleet Leviathan's invasion, and the subsequent shadow cast by the hive mind blocking out psker communications, the administratum failed to notice until it was too late for the Uhulis Sector. Worlds starved.

Krieg was not among them. They wouldn't have the chance.

The precise Autokrats immediately detected they were being short changed on loads from their grain haulers. Outraged, they turned their guns on the hauler, and demanded the full load. The grain hauler in question (Records indicate a shiftless layabout "Regnal Ersten" with a forged Writ of Trade as the unfortunate) made excuses. The Kriegers fired a volley upon the orbiting vessel to make clear their dissatisfaction. The Rogue Trader, apparently, then babbled out a series of excuses, culminating in the claim that the Segmentum Command had seized most of the food intended for Krieg.
>>
The Autokrats were satisfied with their suspicions confirmed. After finishing off the grain hauler with another volley (Surprisingly, Regnal survived this, and would meet his own gruesome fate far later- but that's another story) the Autokrats met once more, and elected a High Autokrat among their number- as far as they were concerned, they were in a state of war.

We have no record of the identity of the High Autokrat. Their position, history, statements, gender, and fate are unknown. The Death Korps of Krieg were thorough in erasing this hated figure from memory. All we know was that there was a High Autokrat, and that this figure would openly declare secession from the Imperium of Man.

At this time, seven Astra Militarum regiments of Kriegers had been raised, and were posted on the world. They had been staying garrisoned in case of tyranid attack, and awaiting orders that would have presumably accompanied the Administratum delegation.

As part of their duties, they were to gather supplies. This included food for campaign, begrudgingly supplied by the planet.

The hivers of Krieg had never been strangers to hunger. It is the same on all hives- due to corruption, inadequate transport capacity, or the simple structure of billions contained in such a small space, malnutrition is rampant. There are always too many mouths, and never enough meals.

The hivers of Krieg had known the shock of having the Imperium fail them, and now faced famine. The Death Korps of Krieg stated simply that the population rose in rebellion against the Imperium, and by extension those Imperial Regiments as well, but I feel that this misses a step. To editorialize, I imagine that the High Autokrat (Being a cunning sort) let this stew a few days. Let the rations dwindle, let the people wonder what's going on- perhaps even attempted to rather publicly deny the Imperial Regiments their supplies, and suffered equally public rebuke.
>>
The people would hunger, see what happened, and wonder. Wonder why their children cried from hunger, as the soldiers marched and drilled and menaced with bayonet, taking scraps meant for them. The High Autokrat would let that stew, then speak.

I know not the High Autokrat's charisma, but I can't imagine the starving need much convincing to seize food.

Or perhaps it's just as the Death Korps describe it. The population en masse blindly rejected Imperial Law in madness, and set upon the regiments like savage dogs.

There were seven Imperial Regiments arranged at that time, and seven hive cities. There's a fascinating account of the fall of six of these hive cities embedded in the training manuals of the Kriegers. Each city lost held a lesson to them, and each pre-Death Korps regiment that fought and fell had a deadly sin associated with them as reason to how they fell. From each fall, they took a lesson, until one hive remained, Hive Ferrograd, under the command of one Colonel Jurten. If the Kriegers can recognize a hero, they might think of Jurten as one.

Ferrograd was the center for manufacture of ammunition- which kept the final of the loyalist Kriegers well surprised. There was an offer of surrender, but the war was bitterly fought already. The only thing you would earn in surrender was a quick death. Colonel Jurten knew that the Imperium was still months out. His forces would starve before the Imperium could arrive. Following that, the Imperium invasion would be costly, if it succeeded- if, and at this, Colonel Jurten feared the most, if the Imperium would even bother coming.
>>
By this time, what was once a strangely anthropomorphized civic philosophy had become almost a religious mania. He believed in the Throne, even as the rebels around him ranted and raved about making a new Throne, a proper one on Krieg. Jurten knew that was heresy. And he knew the origin of it. The hubris of thinking the Throne would care. The present armageddon and sorrows sown by all of this was a consequence of that central arrogance- that the Kriegers would get something for loving the Throne. The Throne was to be served. The Throne was not there to serve them.

And if Krieg would not serve the Throne, Krieg did not deserve to be.

Krieg is a world that has its fair share of technological wonders and secrets. Among the ammunition that Hive Ferrograd produced for the orbital guns were atomics. A terrible amount of them. On the day of the Feast of the Emperor's Ascension, Colonel Jurgen gave the people of Krieg a feast that would never be forgotten. For sixteen hours straight, his collection of guns roared, blanketing the whole of Krieg in nuclear fire. Estimates lodge the amount of nuclear weapons launched in the thousands. An event in the future known as "The Purging." A kill count was kept. As point of pride, the warriors of Krieg estimated that brave Colonel Jurten with sixteen hours, reduced the population from 97 billion down to little more than 780 mlilion.

The world had never been a garden world, but I found a portrait of old Krieg once. Sold for a pretty penny. Though dated to the right era, I am not unconvinced it's a forgery, but perhaps that is due to my own horror at the sight of it. It was a poorly painted water color, perhaps by a student, showing the feet of a titanic steel hive towering into the clouds, standing atop harsh and jagged moss stained stone, wind and rain lashing the cliff side, and in the grey and dim light that peeked through the clouds, an animal soaring through the air. At least, I think it is. Might be a smudge on the canvas.
>>
Krieg has no towering hives now, just ruins and subterranean warrens. The once proud stones have been reduced to rubble and sand. There is no water on Krieg, save for what's found in canteens and barrack reserves. The clouds are far lower to the ground now, laden with poison and chemical. The only life upon Krieg now are Kriegers. Kriegers, and the horses they grow in vats beneath the surface to ride into battle.
>>
Though the Purging was the single greatest use of nuclear weapons in a short span of time upon the surface of Krieg, nuclear weapons would continue to be used. Both sides entrenched, and fought to the bitter, genocidal end in a war that would continue on for a further 500 years. The rebel survivors had gained a psychopathic hatred for the madmen that had reduced their world to ashes, and the loyalists grimly fought in the name of the Throne, knowing that no quarter would be given. They both practiced total war. They innovated, adapted, took on the gas mask, supplemented their meager diets with corpse starch (It's exactly as it sounds), introduced large scale usage of the mysterious "Vitae Womb" technology, and reduced all their beliefs to a fanatic, fatalistic, all encompassing devotion to the Imperium. The only thing for a Krieger is the fight. The duty. The war. Nothing else. For five hundred years, all other Krieger culture was erased. Art, music, literature, all the trappings of a civilian life was crushed by the demand for total war.

As Colonel Jurten had feared, the Imperium had more important matters to deal with than just another hive world descending into madness and blood shed. Two expeditions were undertaken to Krieg during this time. The first, a curious rogue trader, was fired upon by automated orbital guns and they beat a hasty retreat. The second, a mechanicus survey fleet, came within range, and did not report being fired upon, but instead reported what seemed to be a complete, genocidal civil war being fought by a population of perhaps a few million, upon a worthless death world. They moved on.

In 949.M40, Krieg sent a missive to the Imperium at large stating that the rebellion had quashed, and the Death Korps of Krieg were waiting for orders.
>>
Krieg has no governor. Krieg has a Grand Marshal, in charge of recruitment and training of Kriegers. All Kriegers are considered qualifying soldiers. Logic would lead one to expect there has to be some administrative center upon Krieg aside from this Grand Marshal, but the Death Korps of Krieg seem content to hand off most logistics responsibilities to the Departmento Munitorium.

Departmento Munitorium officers assigned to coordinate and keep Kriegers in armor and weapons upon Krieg have a very high turnover rate. Few deaths, but from my understanding, psychological burn out is the primary cause.

Kriegers are immune to boredom. There are no diversions. There is only labor, training, war, and waiting. Any diversion from these four activities is looked upon with contempt, if not hostility. Kriegers are also remarkably xenophobic. And I mean that in the broadest term possible- fellow guardsmen often find Kriegers uncommunicative, and at times laden with barely disguised disgust. It seems any with a survival instinct are considered lesser men.

For aliens, it is worse. Philosophically, the Kriegers came from a point with extreme deprivation. To them, every breath an alien draws is theft. Every acre of space they occupy is one less acre for proper humans to utilize. Every mouthful of food, another mouthful denied to those that better deserve it. In their eyes, the proper place of an alien is at the end of a bayonet. The fact that the Imperium tolerates these is a matter barely tolerated.

Yet, for all their lack of social graces, the Departmento Munitorium has embraced the Kriegers. They win wars. Any order given is fulfilled without hesitation, doubt, or regret, even in the face of death. And there are a great deal of them.
>>
>>50124923
That is a scary neat idea.
>>
The Departmento Munitorium has long had a debate between two, rough, major schools of military study- the Reformers and the Macharians. It is no secret that, as the years have gone on, more and more regiments are drilled and equipped in the Cadian style. In the eyes of the Reformer generals, the advantages are obvious- Cadian soldiers are considered the standard by which all others of the Imperium are measured, and standardization and centralization of equipment would only help with logistics in the Astra Militarum. Something as simple as ordering a replacement lasrifle powerpack can lead to tragedy due to different manufacturing standards and usage across the endless worlds. Let there be one set of kit, training, and organization instead of the confusing hodge podge that blunders on through luck and sheer bloody mindedness.

The Macharians take their name from Lord Solar Macharius, who famously forged an army from a mass of diverse elements and worlds, making a flexible legion ready for every element. In their minds, trying to force guardsmen to march and act the same is an act of folly, that denies useful specialization and experience. Any attempted reform would take hundreds of years, untold fortunes, and would cause the war machine to grind to a halt even as they are besieged on all sides. Catachans are expert jungle fighters, Valhallans ice worlders, Chem Dogs tunnel fighters, and so on and so forth. Why break what isn't broken?

But now, there is a third regiment that is gaining acclaim, one that even the Reformers balk at modeling after. The Death Korps of Krieg.

Those that favor the Kriegers, see a model of the future. A guardsman that doesn't hesitate. Doesn't doubt. Doesn't question. Fears nothing, and fulfills every order to the letter. And better yet, there is no end to them. Generals at the strategic level find the Death Korps of Krieg refreshing. Far too often, regiments have generals that don't understand their place, and seek to ask questions or meddle in affairs above them. Refusing orders, 'misinterpreting' commands, engaging in cowardly routs: such are the sins of the common general. Oh yes, on occasion there's one that rises above, heroes that make for stirring propaganda- but let's be honest. Heroes are not what victory is made of. Victory is made of attrition, of materiel, of being willing to fight longer than the other guy. Victory is the stuff Kriegers are made of. They don't need commissars. Their loyalty is beyond question. And they seemingly spring out of the dirt with their wondrous Vitae Wombs. They're practically a new breed of human, and should be welcomed.

Though the other factions are uneasy at this new model of guardsman, those in the Departmento Munitorium see the future in the Death Korps. Limitless guardsmen that will not break, grinding down all that oppose the Imperium. The anvil, to the maneuverable hammer of the Astartes. One day, these generals dream, all the guard will be like the Death Korps. Fearless. Unquestioning. Replaceable.

The Death Korps of Krieg for their part do not care. They can be found on every front, on every battlefield, wherever a soldier is called to die, a Krieger will march there to take his place. They do not question. They serve.

Dream of conquering the world, never got their shit together quickly enough to pull it off.

Subjugated their impoverished neighbours to the north who had some considerable time previously been subject to Ursh slapping their shit with salvaged nukes. Received kicking but managed to just about hold them off. Got raided mercilessly by the Nordyc of Skand after that and they never had a hope of recovery before Merika rolled in and "Liberated" them.

Similar thing happened to the relatively prosperous south border states. Half of tem got swallowed up, other half pledged allegiance to Hy Brasil on the basis that out of the two subjugation under the southern nation was the lesser of two evils.

All the while the border keeps on being pushed west into the lands of the tribals and the micro-nations and the river kingdoms and the gene-spliced hippie communes.

Their assaults and swallowing up of the Skandian lands was probably a contributing factor to Malcador's success in unifying them into a cohesive nation before persuading them to join the Imperium.

Everything bar the Military is kind of shit.

It's all Fallout but greener in the north and east, Mad Max in the south, Book of Eli in the centre and freaky weird mutants and shit in the west. Also fortified city states in the west and some not totally shit river and coastal Fishermen Kingdoms.

I'm thinking The Enclave from Fallout but taking up most of the North American continent and way more cohesive.

They had carefully cultivated pseudo-Super Soldiers that were really little more than roided up drug addicted death row inmates promised freedom for victory.

the gene-splice hippies hid in the mountains and burned all their knowledge and stayed in places too inhospitable for baseline humanity until the Warlord went to them in person with no weapon in his hand.

What old tomes and living knowledge they had maintained was useful in refining the flaws out of the early Astartes.

Just some ideas.

To elaborate a bit, Emps starts off as the Warlord, and is an ancient Man of Gold from the DaoT found and rescued by Malcador. After unifying Terra, he becomes the Steward of the Empty Throne, refusing to actually rule humanity and only taking care of it until a worthy emperor can be found.

Rescuing Isha is how Emps pisses off Chaos, instead of the stealing-Primarch-souls betrayal. This also means that the Primarchs are mostly normal (though exceptional) guys since they don't have magical chaos souls, and since this is nobledark none fell to Chaos (or at least no one has written a traitor yet).

So instead of Horus starting a rebellion, the War of the Beast gets moved up a couple years since Chaos manipulates the Orks to attack, and the Dark Eldar join in for the chance at plunder. Sangy dies, the war is won, and to cement the alliance Eldrad bullies the Steward into marrying Isha.

Goge Vandire rises through the ranks as a brilliant administrator, and the Steward thinks he has finally found a worthy Emperor of Man. He crowns Vandire and goes to retire on a beach somewhere. Vandire goes nuts, the Steward has to come back to clean shit up, and this time is forced to take the crown as Emperor by the collective demand of the Imperium.

The Imperium is relatively open, allowing religions to operate as long as they specifically do not worship the Emperor, and willing to accept sapient aliens that are willing to work together as long as they pay tithes and such. The Tau joined late in the game, with Ethereals arguing for greater integration and Farsight leading the isolationist faction.

To compensate for the increased competency of the Imperium, most of the xenos have gotten buffs, like the main Nid fleet reaching the galaxy in M41 instead of just scout fleets.

Someone in previous thread suggested that having him be a slave from the lands of Sino under cruel Ursh occupation would work better because then he could have been partly responsible for the raising of rebellions to disrupt Ursh and welcome in the Warlord.
>>
>>50131712
Well, those two features don't clash. I'll incorporate them. This will probably take a long while though.
>>
>>50131712
Yeah, the thought was that leading a slave revolt would inform his use of sneaky sabotage tactics.
>>
>>50131772
If he's from Bania (Which seems to cover Greece/Egypt from the map at >>50127664 ) there's some historical slave revolts that could serve as fertile fodder to work from for a historical parallel (On the precedent of original 40k parallel of Jaghatai Khan=Temujin). Could be an uprising of Helots. Or, maybe that'd be a bit too much. Raven Guard=Sneaky with jetpacks vs Night Lords=Sneaky with torture.

Well I'm considering having Merica skirt the borders is being slaaneshi, and a fucked up human mass production program as part of fulgrim's origins. I'm curious where the conquest of Ursh is supposed to be before or after merica, it seems pertinent to the level of excess and panic Fulgrim is dealing with in his youth.
>>
>>50134244
I would have Merika be brought into direct conflict with the Imperium after the back is broken with Ursh but not yet totally destroyed.

Ursh is still holding onto Japanic, Khanate, Sibar and Sino lands but the Warlord has taken future Moscow and set up what will one day be know as The Imperial Palace coincidentally where the Kremlin once was. So yes Kremlin vs White House is a thing and it isn't a cold war this time.

It's why Fulgrim was an actual full Astartes this time, the design fixed with Hippie bio-tech go enough as tribute by fleeing Hippie scientists.

Calbi was captured first and Dorn was probably one of the last early stage Astartes.

Have a bump and a brief continuation.

Ylsanor gave the last fibers of wraithbone another psychic nudge, reinforcing the tiny hole that would allow the armor plate to be screwed to the frame. There! Now to compare it to the original.

Three dozen points of comparison that had to be exactly right, not counting the inner curve of the plate itself. Still, that wasn't much worse than the more intricate components of ordinary armor. Humans couldn't appreciate the amount of finesse demanded by the art of Bonesinging.

The plate fit. Yes!

Ylsanor didn't exactly expect part-wraithbone augmetics to become standard throughout the Imperium. On her own homeworld, however, and the handful of similar planets where Human and Eldar lived side by side…

... Eep, someone asked for my writing!
There may be another installment if I have time tomorrow.

Ylsanor's main contact was Erek Gathmann, the only techpriest she'd been able to find with an open interest in the mechanical applications of wraithbone. He was considered a bit of a radical, but you didn't tend to find any other kind of Mechanicus adept voluntarily working alongside Eldar. He wasn't quite radical enough to get in trouble for it, and his personality complemented hers as well as his interests. (Even if that did make the other tech-adepts call them "a pair of overgrown children"-- honestly, you'd think that people who routinely augmented their own ears might realize when someone with naturally keener senses could hear them!)

For all Gathmann's curiosity and flexibility, though, he was still a techpriest. Ylsanor was firmly relegated to the sidelines when the time came to actually put the pieces together. At least she got to watch. Gathmann worked more slowly than usual as he joined metal and wire to wraithbone-- he had to feel out what the machine wanted, he'd said. Ylsanor couldn't sense any psychic presence beyond the existence of the wraithbone, but didn't bother to mention that. She had no doubt that wiser Eldar than herself had brought it up many times before. And the Mechanicus did get good results from their machines more often than not, so who was she to say that there wasn't something to it?

As interested as she was in the process, Ylsanor occasionally glanced at what she could see of Gathmann's own augmetics. He had an awful lot of them, although neither hand had been completely replaced yet. She contemplated the adjustments to the wraithbone finger sheaths that might be needed to accommodate tools and other features; they hadn't tried anything fancier than a basic replacement limb for their prototype.

That could be the reason why the Warlord finally decides to do something about them.

Up till that point they had done nothing that he hadn't done, if not quite as well.

Up till that point he was going to write them off like he did with Hy Brasil. The whole point of the Imperium and Unification was to safe guard the future of humanity and to bring up the basic quality of life to a less shit minimum. Hy Brasil had that already and so there was no reason to hurry their inclusion. Warlord was clinically immortal. He could wait a thousand years and more.

Merika was put in the same boat until they started trying to Manifest Destiney the Imperium.

But covertly handing high tech weapons over to what's left of Ursh, supplying and training separatists and extremists to tear the new Imperium apart from inside and stealthy dropping a couple of vials of Double-Anthrax in a few big cities was a step too far.

War was declared. Merika tried to play the injured party against the Imperial Aggressor to the international community. Sadly the International community by that point consisted of the Imperium, less than half of Ursh, Hy Brasil who didn't like them very much at all and weird but small exceptions like Saminanno and Litshtin (Lichtenstein) Mountain Fortress.

Dorhai craftworld won't ever join the Imperium.

They kill mon'keigh elder and human alike on sight believing themselves to be the last pure elder left.

Even the Harlequins have stopped visiting them.

The elder supremacists from other craftworlds have migrated there and it is no longer considered a minor craftworld.

For the most part they are isolationist. Sometimes their farseers will order them to attack a weak target for reasons unknown to even Imperium Farseers.

They tried to assassinate Sister Jubblowski for """stealing""" Isha's blessing. The Imperial retribution for this insult got derailed by a Hivefleet tearing into Ultramar.

It's probable that the assassination attempt was a miscalculation on Dorhai's part as they are now firmly on the Imperium's little list.

This is less a bunch of people in a fortress and more a bunch of people refusing to open the big door.

Eventually they did open the door when one King Under the Mountain who knew no fear reached retirement age and decided to investigate outside once his replacement was installed. Believing this was the last way he would be useful and he had no more to offer his people.

Warlord, recently turned Steward, had been in communication for years beforehand with the 2 way radio at the door.

The Undermountain people wanted to believe the wars were over but had no reason to believe it. It was another 20 years before the door would open properly.

Since more Primarchs are being written, I figured I'd post this diagram someone made a few threads ago and help clarify which Primarchs have gotten which augmentations. The following is taken from the 1d4chan page and the various fluff written:

Early Thunder Warrior - Angron

Refined TW - Perty, Mortarion

Early Astartes (Mk I) - Dorn, Khan

Canis Helix Astartes - Russ

Mk II Astartes - None written yet

Prototype Mk III Astartes (Grey Knight Pattern) - Sanguinius, Vulkan, Lion

Mass Production Mk III Astartes (Standard Astartes) - None written yet

Undefined Astartes (we've determined that they are Astartes, but not which Mark) - Corax, Fulgrim, though it seems from this thread Fulgrim is going to be Mk II

Baseline human (with rejuvenat treatments) - Guilliman, Magnus, Lorgar, Horus

Super Skitarii - Ferrus Manus

No idea - Kurze, Alpharius

And whatever we decide the 2 lost Primarchs are.

I think the only 3 chapters using the Mk III GK Variant are Grey Knights, Custodius and Sons of Antius.

The Refined Early Astartes could be Imperial Fists, Raven Guard and Night Lords and any other chapter/legion with missing organs.

>>
>>50156951
I would say that yes Soul Binding is still a thing as it creates a reason for the Emperor to keep having to return to Earth to create them.

The Soul Binding could be a procedure that was supposed to link Men of Gold together back in the old Bountiful and Benevolent Terran Empire. Because the Emperor is last surviving MoG to create FTL communications network the procedure was adapted to psychic but otherwise baseline humanity.

Binding still burns out the ocular nerves in 98% of cases. This is because mere humans can't handle a fire that burns so hot.

This time the Emperor is not a vegetable or a total cunt. This time he can express his doubt as to whether someone can handle the Binding and survive and reject people accordingly.

Because there is still a mass immigration/pilgrimage of Psykers to Old Earth the rejects who decide to stay and their descendants have started to build up somewhat in the population. Psychic talent and training is one of Old Earth's exports. Was 2nd to Prospero before the 4th Black Crusade and the place got burned to the ground by angry Chaos Eldar. Much of Prospero's psychic population ended up on Old Earth because they wanted to be among their own kind.

Black Ships are less hellish. They perform a service to the Imperium and everyone knows it. With the population knowledgeable about the basics of Chaos and the hazards of the Warp few if any psykers resist invitation to the Black Ships. They know that they are going to Earth to be made safe one way or the other and there is little to fear.

Some of the Craftworlds and planet dwelling Eldar Enclaves also offer basic making your shit safe training as it is in their interest to do so.
>>
>>50156951
The Primarchs can have different augmentations than their legions. Lorgar and Gulliman, for example, are both baseline humans while their legions are Astartes. Most legions would use the most updated model available, so most are going to be the Mk III MP Astartes with a few exceptions like the Iron Hands
and Space Wolves. I think someone described the Death Guard choosing to use a refined version of the early Astartes because of the faster augmentation time.

Agreed on the Grey Knights and Custodes, though I don't think we've brought up the Son of Antaeus at all.
>>
>>50159710
I added the Son of Antaeus, thank you I wasn't sure how it was spelt.

In the main timeline they are described as super durable even by Marine standards. I thought this would be a good explanation in this AU as to why. They are Grey Knights without the magic.

I see your point. Also if the Death Guard are also the Always Crusading! All the Time! chapter then it would also make sense for them to adopt the faster creation process.

Maybe it's a method adopted by other groups that took up the Pilgrim Typhus' Templar Teachings.

Assuming a man can be blessed by Isha he would not get longevity. Jubblowski didn't get longevity. At least not directly, because of her blessings she got rejuvenant and longevity treatments.

Possibly he would gain an aspect of Kurnous or at least how Isha remembers him. Or possibly what Isha believes a human version of Kurnous would have been like.

Assuming the last one then he would become tall and wiry with whip core muscles and though weathered skin. A mane of wild hair, a beard and body hair.

He would find that the ways of hunting come easy to him and great joy and exhilaration come from the kill. He would become a legendary Hunter.

He would not gain visions as Jubblowski did because that is to Isha not a thing of men. Possibly his virility and associated physical components would be improved.

He would, as best benefit to the Imperium, get good on the propaganda posters and join the Space Marine Scouts as they and the Assassins will be the only people that can keep up with him.
>>
>>50163816
To run with this idea, it would be interesting if in the same way psykers can be soul bound to the Emperor to gain a fraction of his power and will, Isha can grant mortals Memories, her recollection of the heroic traits of the dead Eldar pantheon. A young Eldar boy was found to have been granted the Memory of Vaul when in his first bonesinging lesson he sang a lump of unrefined wraithbone into an exact replica of Anaris, last blade of Vaul and the sword with which Eldanesh challenged Khaine.

In addition, I feel Isha should have a physical presence. Perhaps a piece of her warp presence inhabits what was once Macha's body, and Macha's consciousness has been absorbed into this greater being. Such massive power has morphed her body into a wild vision of beauty nine feet tall, with flowers bursting from the ground where she steps.

I wouldn't have her alterations be that dramatic.

Emperor is at 2.5 meters and it wouldn't look right to have Macha be taller than him.

Possibly she and her priesthood can sing soulstones into being in a manner similar to bonesingers.

It might be that these memories of her old friends and family are in fact the fragments of their souls she managed to save from She Who Thirsts. For this she is hated beyond madness by the Chaos Eldar.

But these are living souls and so they need to live. But these are broken souls and they can not live on their own. They live now borrowed lives.

There would be a limit to how many there could be as these are only half living fragments.
>>
>>50164986
>Emperor is at 2.5 meters and it wouldn't look right to have Macha be taller than him.
B-but muh amazon waifu... I also forgot Emps isn't 10 ft tall like in canon.

Not sure if the Memories should be actual pieces of the Eldar gods' souls though. Even a sliver of one would be incredible powerful, since tiny fragments of Khaine are enough to animate a statue into a walking avatar of death. You'd potentially have a bunch of demi-god ubermensches walking around.

That's why I think it makes a bit more sense to have them be gifts from Isha: they're really just echos of the lost majesty of the gods, her fading memories of her dead family. After all, just like soul binding, people with the Memories aren't all that powerful. Jubblowski just gets visions, the guy with the Memory of Kurnous is just fast and fierce, the kid with the Memory of Vaul is just good at smithing (though in retrospect being able to craft Anaris as a child is completely OP, so we can remove that).

Happy to hear what people think.
>>
>>50166130
Sounds about right. Maybe Isha is trying to recreate her old family, maybe she can't let go or maybe she just sees some mortals as embodying aspects of beings she once knew and loved and so believes that they should be rewarded accordingly.

As for the Vaul kid.

He makes good shit. He is a bonesinger prodigy. He is mortal so his shit will never match that of the real Vaul but when he makes a thing it is worthy of kings.

It's also worth noting that when he makes swords they carry a great resemblance, though less godly in quality, to a sword held by an infamous Tau general.

Finally, the conclusion of Bonesinger Ylsanor's foray into wraithbone augmetics. (Though it's deliberately open-ended.)

The official debate as to the acceptability of Ylsanor and Gathmann's innovations was shaping up to last at least a decade. Ylsanor didn't mind, well, not a lot. She didn't feel much need to make a name for herself so young. She had hoped that the AdMech of this world would be a little more open-minded, but of course it had to be a matter for more than just this planet.

Well, let them debate. The tests and demonstrations had gone off without a hitch, and Gathmann said he was "relatively hopeful" about getting the base design approved. Admittedly, that didn't sound as good as just "hopeful", but still.

Her own people didn't have to wait, though. Even if they were better at avoiding it, Eldar could lose limbs just like humans, and Ylsanor had high hopes for the hybrid prosthetics. She was sure she could reverse-engineer the completed design-- well-- maybe… but the stresses would be different on an augmetic proportioned for an Eldar body, and Gathmann was better at that kind of calculation.

Then, too, the Mechanicus really didn't like anyone messing with "their" stuff, even if they hadn't yet decided whether it was actually theirs… maybe a decade wasn't too long to wait. She didn't want to provoke them into banning it outright, after all.

And she was sure that she could get Gathmann to help her with some other designs while they waited.

Of the souls that died in that great nuclear pyre it was said that few slept easy.

It was said in ancient times on many worlds that a murder was a violation of the correct way of things before a cruel galaxy made violent death the norm. Some said it was an affront to their gods, some damaging to the souls of both the murderer and the murdered.

So when a creature whose soul is already forfeit to something hideous murdered a whole world it burned the gates of death shut and the dead had nowhere to go. And they were in great pain and they were very angry.

Not long after the burning of Prospero strange and quite terrible things started to appear across Imperial space. Always when death was closing and close, always when hope was had beyond hope and all but all had been lost.

Funeral fire from the atomics still clings to what is left of them and it still burns but no warmth is had from them and in their boot steps frost forms and withers the grass. No flesh clings to their charred bones and no eyes in sockets empty but for what looks almost like the light of prayer candles.

The remains of their uniforms seem to be those of the Prospero PDF and among their number are things of greater stature in thicker amour that burns no less fiercely.

It is said that the forces of Chaos hold a special fear for these creatures, that for many of them it is all they have fear for. It is said by the lost and the forsaken upon interrogation that these terrible creatures are so feared because they steal the souls away of those they kill as they themselves were kept from Death. The gods are denied their due and the forsaken howl in the abyss between living and death until the stars grow dim and cold. As the Damned Legionaries do.

>Come on homies, where's all the dank OC at

Though the dark gods had whispered their lies in Sanguinius’ mind for what seemed like hours, only moments had passed in reality, and both the orks and the Imperial defenders were stirring. The horde of Nobz bellowed war chants and smashed their weapons together, raising a crashing din of guttural roars and ringing metal. The Beast itself was still motionless, its eyes surveying the Astartes with malevolent cunning.

Around Sanguinius, his men were springing into motion. Captain Azkaellon shouted for reinforcements through his vox receiver, calling for the secondary Blood Angel forces within the Imperial Palace to hurry to the plaza and for the assistance of any other Imperial forces in the vicinity. The few remaining librarians readied their powers, sparks swirling about their temples and fingers, as Astartes and Custodes checked armor and weapons battered from days of combat, adjusted sights, and muttered quiet prayers.
>>
>>50179295
The ground shook as the Beast finally began to move. With slow, ponderous steps, it walked out in front of the horde, waving the eager Nobz back as they tried to follow; one Nob foolhardy enough to follow was pulverized into a smear by a casual swing of the Beast’s massive fist.

Across the plaza, Sanguinius did likewise, striding out alone against the protests of his men, shaking off Azkaellon as his captain begged him not to face the Beast alone. The Steward in the Throne Room had sensed the presence of the Beast, and as he touched Sanguinius’ mind he knew in an instant that the Angel meant to face the Beast unaided. The Steward urgently ordered his old friend to retreat to the Throne Room so that they might face it together, but Sanguinius refused, for to do so would have endangered the very survival of humanity.

The Steward was psychically linked with thousands of his commanders as he orchestrated the Imperial forces across Terra, and it was only through his military genius that they held, the armies of men and Eldar acting in perfect unison as they threw back wave after wave of fouls xenos and the forces of Chaos. Distracting the Steward would imperil all the forces of Terra and the survival of humanity, for even if the Beast were slain, Terra would fall should the rest of the planet be lost. Knowing he could not sway Sanguinius’ decision, the Steward could only powerlessly observe as Sanguinius bade him farewell, and met the Beast in the middle of the plaza.

Hey all, given that this is noblebright - should we have the Ordo Sicarius a greater role? I feel like, as the branch of the inquisition responsible for keeping the assassins accountable and competent (rather than screeching REEEEEEEE HERETICS) in vanilla 40k, they'd fit the ecclesiarchy-shaped hole we have since Emps not being universally worshipped. Hell, since they're supposed to be a regulatory ordo more than an offensive one, they could nick the Ecclesiarchy's whole "No Men Under Arms" schtick. Maybe we'll still save Sisters from being melted down!

I knew there was still life left in this thread!

Do we think Emps feels strongly enough about not being worshipped to have an entire Ordo though? Outlawing worship of him is one thing, but siccing a bunch of inquisitors on people is quite another. Definitely agree we should find a place for the sisters though.
>>
>>50185253
The Imperium does not forbid soldiers from being practising and devote members of a faith.

The Imperium does not forbid its citizenry forming and maintaining part time militias. Quite the reverse. It's good to have a hobby and it's better to have one useful to the Imperium as a whole.

If you're going to have militias then you might as well have them be well equipped and trained. Provided they pay for it themselves, of course.

If they all share a faith and culture in common then it only adds to unit cohesion and that's never a bad thing.

Add to this that the Imperium doesn't care what your governmental structure is so long as you pay the tithe and shit.

The end result is the soldier sororitas and fraternis under the command, more or less, of planetary High Priests and such but under their authority as Governor rather than priest.

It's a slight but important distinction and one the Inquisition is careful to maintain.

Oddly yes, more so after The War of the Beast.

He couldn't save Sanguinius or Malcador, in his mind he was flawed beyond measure. He didn't want worship before and afterwards to his mind it would have been insulting to his only real friends. People should not worship a man who could not save his family, who let his family die to claim victory.

Many faiths have the Emperor as part of their lore, but never as a focus of worship. Saint and prophet and paragon and saviour maybe but never as a God.

Being the Emperor is suffering.

It seems from this thread that the marriage between the Emperor and Isha is mostly one of political convenience then. There is a deep mutual respect and understanding that only two godlike beings devoted to their species could share, and perhaps there is even something close to love. Underneath it though is the melancholy and longing as each fails to fill the void left by lost family who can never be replaced.

This is true.

The Emperor was supposed to be one of many. A Man of Gold network spanning the realms of humanity for not quite instant communication and to act as the go-between and bridge the gap between god-like A.I. and the common man.

Isha was one of a Pantheon of her peers whose task, self appointed or otherwise, was to guide and give direction to the eldar.

Both are no relics from broken systems.

Possibly they do love each other but duty to their peoples will always come first.

Small blessing then that over time humanity and eldar have grown closer. But both know that the other is a single surviving piece of a system not destroyed.

Nonono, yall misunderstand me. This isn't an Ordo Fedoricus, this is one dedicated to competence and accountability.

>...to act as a watchdog and oversight committee.
>They would be empowered to investigate all threats and abuses emerging within the Officio Tacitum.

From what I've read while tweaking the assassins, a completely swamped and overworked Ordo Sicarius is precisely what a Nobledark Imperium should have - best of intentions and trying to avert the clusterfuck of vanilla 40k, but still little more than pissing in the wind against ohgodwhat.jpeg. I only mentioned the Ecclesiarchy since I thought of them being defunct and leaving a hole in the Imperium, and how that leaves the Sisters homeless (and how the No Men Under Arms would work well with an Ordo that works purely to keep the other arms of the Imperium in check)

tl;dr: don't hurt me I just wanted Reasonable Inquisitors

I think there would need to a really compelling reason for them to have Grey Knight gene seed though, since in universe the augmentation is much more difficult and expensive and is so reserved only for the most specialized elite. GK pattern gene-seed is not so much forbidden as it is impractical.

It has sever comparability issues compared with "Mass Production" gene-seed which already fairly sucks in this regard.

The only reason the GK and Custards use it is because they have the entire million+ worlds of the Imperium as a recruitment base so they can afford to play the numbers game.

Son of Antaeus are nomadic and have a prodigious turnover rate. On the plus side they leave behind shit loads of hard as fuck regular human drop outs that make HOLY SHIT tier PDF soldiers.

Every sane chapter took one look at the GK variant and saw that it was not economically viable.

Regular gene-seed is compatible with one in thousands of hopefuls.

GK gene-seed is compatible with one in millions.

That makes it a logistical nightmare and not worth the cost for use in most other chapters.

Custards get away with it because they are few in number and bodyguards for Isha and Emperor.

Grey Knights get away with it because they have recruitment rights and their job is to jump into the few fires too hot for regular Space Marines.

Sons of Antaeus use it because nobody told them not to quickly enough.

In retrospect I probably should have simplified this bit of fluff when I wrote it huh?

So the story goes that Duscht Jemanic had the best genetic technology on the planet, given their obsession with genetic purity. When they were incorporated into the Imperium the Steward tasked them with improving the Space Marine augmentation process, then at Mk II. For the prototype test run, they were given a blank check to make any improvements that were possible, and the test subjects were Sangy, Vulkan, and Lion. This new experimental process produced Astartes that were superior to the Mk II in every way but also ridiculously more expensive and time consuming. Emps tells them that for the mass production run, he wants them to limit the improvements to more reasonable stuff, like improving the compatibility rate and bug fixing the occasional rejection of gene seed organs. So the experimental version becomes the Mk III S pattern used mostly by the Grey Knights and Custodes, whereas the cheaper mass production pattern becomes the Mk III MP and is the standard Space Marine.

Mk I, II, and III MP have roughly similar levels of strength, with the differences being improved compatibility and the additional goodies like the Mucranoid added in the later versions. Mk III S Astartes are the special snowflakes who are stronger than everyone.
>>
>>50186960
In main 40k they were a Cursed Founding chapter noted for being damage resistant even by the standards of their peers.
>>
>>50186982
Are the IIs Astartes special snowflakey to the tier of GKs and Custards in vanilla, or just tougher like the Sons?

>>50186996

>>
>>50187176

III is split into two branches.

The mass produced IIIMP and the spacial snowflake IIIS.

IIIS s not economically viable so barely anyone uses it.
>>
>>50187234

Are the IIIS Astartes as special snowflake as GKs and Custards are in vanilla 40k (something something competitive balance), or just tankier like the Sons of Antaeus are?

>>
>>50187255
As mentioned in this post>>50186982
the Mk III S Astartes are "superior in every way." So yes, the Grey Knights and Custodes that use this augmentation pattern are as snowflakey as canon. This originally came up to clarify some of the vagueness in canon regarding them. It seems the Sons of Antaeus in this AU are now equally snowflakey and not just tough, the special gene seed just explains their toughness.

As for the names, I just came up with the Mark designations to show the progression of Space Marine design. If people want to come up without h High Gothic names like "Maximus pattern" or "Indomitus pattern" or something equally faux Latin, that's fine by me.

when it was first floated the idea was that the Emperor was created in a heavily developed late DAoT star system equipped with system wide infrastructure and psychic supergenius AI Men of Steel to produce and encode Emperor scale superhumans. It was undecided as to whether the man of gold that would become the Emperor should predate the Dark Age's end or be incomplete at the time of the fall, but it was noted that a recollection of dark age humans would be an interesting point in his relationship with the Eldar, Eldrad and Isha in particular. Because making Men of Gold involved the most brazen possible warp experimentation this was not done near Sol, and subsequent writing gave us Malcador's logs from a Megawatt clan(?) FTL expedition to Chthonia. Here they discover the shattered orbital circlet, and somewhere in the vast complex the catatonic Man of Gold. on the return journey their gellar field isn't enough for the storms and the Man of Gold stirs to smite demons. That's where things have left off in the origins of the emperor.

It's good stuff, the only thing I question is that the Beast is mentioned as a growing threat at the time of the Beheading in early M32. Does this mean the Great Crusade has gone on 2000 years? Seems a bit long to me, and it would make more sense if the Beheading came during the rebuilding phase when the Imperium was still chaotic.
>>
>>50195159
Honestly? No idea, since I made sure to preserve dates, names, and other "historical" "facts" by the other writefags. Cursory scan of Lexi and Wiki say that Beaheading was during WotB, which itself was quite a way after the HH; but since we're moving WotB further up into the Great Crusade, it's basically a choice between:

>moving WotB to after GC (which doesn't make sense, since we need SOMETHING to tell the Imperium to Slow The McFuck Down You'll Hurt Yourself)
>moving Beheading after WotB (which I guess could work perfectly fine, but imho it loses something from the lack of "holy shit Vangy you have literally the WORST timing")
>fixing the dates (probably this since I'm fucking lazy, but I don't wanna go against Original Writefag if they were dead set on that date.

Also, that particular point aside - surely the GC would've gone on longer than the, what, 200 years it did in Vanilla (and here?)? Like, sure, CSMs weren't fucking shit up every step of the way, but that doesn't mean Orks and (D)Eldar weren't around. If anything, the concentration of SMs into Legions would've made it even slower from the inability to push on every front at once. Given that we have Croneldar being a big player here in Nobledark and the Primarchs not having a dickwaving contest about their conquests, I feel like we should lengthen the GC. Maybe not all the way to M32, but at least pushing up to the best part of a thousand years. I see "hundreds" and "thousands" thrown about waaaay too much in the fluff I'm editing. And I don't mean the sugar sprinkes.
>>
>>50195159
>>50195341
Or it could have been a different WotB. Beast being a title held by a warboss among warbosses

Would be good to have a more measured GC. Steward wasn't pushing forward for the sake of making a big Empire but was pushing forwards and consolidating what was taken before pushing forward again. Also the diplomatic inclusion of more worlds and lesser empires into the Imperium would have dragged thing about further.

Of course all that means is that for the First Beast to make it to Old Earth through a stronger Imperium the first WotB would have also gone on for longer.
>>
>>50195341
Yeah, I do like the timing for the Beheading during the WotB ("yo Vangorich, COULD YOU NOT?"), I just thought that the WotB was replacing the HH chronologically, so we have like 500 years of Great Crusade and then BAM ORKS AND CHAOS
>>
>>50195921
I think it would be confusing if we have more than one WotB. I mean shit, look at all the confusion over Space Marine geneseed
>>
>>50195921
>>50195941
>>50195959

Agreed. 500 years is... alright, probably, and I feel like Croneldar are the more subterfugey and/or raiding type, meaning that the main martial threat for the Imperium would be Orks? Perhaps the Beast being an honorary title for the leader of the current WAAAAAAGH! but only the First Beast having the war named after him?

In terms of backstory, maybe Antaeus was a Grey Knight or Custodes who wanted to help more people with his gifts and was frustrated by his specialized role, and formed a small splinter group that went off to do their own thing.

If we are going with Lady Aurelia Malys being the Deamon Queen of Chaos this would be a good picture of her. The big black feathery wings are intentionally grown because it pisses off the Blood Angels. Rumor has it they were torn from Sanguinious' back.

At some point she engaged in a blasphemous and all manner of fucked up wedding with Asdrubael Vect, Lord of Shaa-Dom and Commorragh.

Some would say that being married to the Queen of Chaos whilst banning warpcraft in the Dark City is a tad hypocritical. Yes it is. He's Lord Asdrubael Vect, he gives no shits. You can file a complaint with the complaints department if you are feeling stupid.

Lady Malys is blessed of all the gods of Chaos. She is insanely powerful on an individual levels and just dangerously insane enough to get all the warbands of Chaos to temporarily act together and swear obedience but still just coherent enough to make use of it.

Only the Emperor is her equal in a one on one confrontation and only a fully awakened Avatar of Khain (and a lot of support) has any realistic hope of stopping her. She has died many times but the gods keep resurrecting her at least in part because they don't want her in the Realm of Chaos for longer than is necessary.

She is still "mortal" in that she is not in a deamon-prince sort of deal. She swore no oaths of loyalty for he power, the gods keep her powered up possibly because they are scared to find out what she would do one of them with the powers of the others if one of them stopped. They give her power she fucks shit up and that feeds them. How a mere mortal can operate on that sort of insanely high rape train level is unknown.

It is perhaps that she is the equal and opposite of The Emperor. Her marriage to Vect being a mirror of Isha and Emperor.

In a few of the Starchild Prophesies it is her that gives birth to the Impossible Child rather than Isha and in one rather horrible prophesy the Emperor is the posthumous father.

That is an excellent idea, it also ties the Dark Eldar more closely into the later Black Crusades as something other than vultures.

The whole wings thing might only be a rumor. It might not. It does piss people off hugely and thats what matters.

>a martial relic remains from his heroic final charge unto death
>found floating in the vast debris clouds several decades hence and returned to Cadia, the relic has always been of dubious authenticity
>This has in no way reduced its iconic, almost religious status among the voidborn of the imperial navy, who treat it as a signifier of voidborn valor, honor, and providence
>The relic, replicated in countless heraldries across the imperium, is a mighty pair of heavily augmented arms, still clutching the golden wheel, itself damaged by heat and shrapnel, now in stasis in the grand hall of canadian naval command
>>

That is fucking sweet.

This time we have lost Abbadon but kept his arms.

I also like the implication that there is a core of the Imperial Navy made up of Void Born.

This raises a good point. Should the Croneldar and DEldar be theoretically redeemable?

Or are they all too far gone?

Someone previously suggested that the Harlequins have stopped visiting the Dark City. If you move this to when Vect and Malys get married it could signify the official cut off point where the surviving elder gods have given up on them.

I would suggest that up till that point the Dark Eldar were seen, by their gods at any rate, as still their children. Misguided children maybe but kin all the same.

After the union of the Dark and the Chaos the gods have stopped caring about them. They may, as individuals, still be capable of crawling their way back to the light but they will have to do it on their own because the old gods don't feel it is worth the effort anymore.

Malal is greater deamon of, nominally, Khorne. When Slaanesh and Khorne fought over the corpse of Khine and his body broke into the avatar pieces Slaanesh was left holding a chunk and Khorne was left holding a chunk.

Malal is the chunk that Khorne was left holding.

It's insane, angry and hates all that it loves. It is part of Khrone's domain because how could it not be with those winning personality traits.

Some times the other deamons of Khorne will herd/lure it and Skarbrand into the same postcode and then they just kind of attract one another. Wagers are placed on who is going to get broken first.

As to the piece Slaanesh was left with who the fuck knows. She probably ate it.

Which brings up the question. Why are the Tau with the Empire?
Their ideology is all about: Tau rule, everyone else serves. Do as you are told and have a nice life. Don't and never have existed.
>>
>>50219155
According to the 1d4chan page in the timeline section they achieved interstellar empire status way earlier and resisted integration for a long time.

Possibly the reason for this was their belief in the Greater Good demanding that Tau always rule.

Imperium keeps giving them advice like "don't stick your dick in the warp hole", "Don't trust the Commorraghite "diplomats"", "Trying to negotiate with the Orks is not going to work" and the award winning "STOP BUILDING A.I. YOU STUPID BLUE IDIOTS!".

Every single time they ignored this hard earned wisdom they got ass raped. Every time they got no lube violated the Imperium would turn up with a charity run emergency relief mission and an offer of joining. Every time the Tau refused because only Tau should rule.

After they say what an actual WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!! looked like and the Tyrannids ate half the empire after the A.I. rebellion left them too weak to stop them they adapted their beliefs to Only Tau Should Rule Tau.

As a technologically advanced and prior existing empire they got something the Interex deal.

They would be allowed rule themselves so long as they adhered to the mutual defence and free trade deal.

Although this did mean that the Tau people had to abandon their dreams of ruling the galaxy they also became aware of the scale of the galaxy and how unrealistic that dream now seemed. Also it meant they could send missionaries of the Greater Good across most of the Imperium legally.

Farsight is the traditionalist who holds true to the old ways, got a few of the older and more established colonies on his side and broke away.

Currently Ethereal Council and general Farsight are in a very Tau civil war that consists of cyber espionage, assassination attempts, honour duels and very brief border skirmishes.

This is the first Tau on Tau violence since Aun'Va first came to them with the Greater Good.

Also by this point big questions about Aun'Va's longevity are being asked, although not openly yet.

I see no reason to get rid of the Vostroyaian First Born.

In WotB they refused to help, breaking their mutual protection oath and instead focused on their own world like they had a chance of ever holding out on their onesies if everything fell apart.

Afterwards when they saw what Primarch Curze was doing when given the order to fetch back the worlds whose loyalty was found lacking they couldn't surrender fast enough.

Being an industrial world that the Imperium needed to help rebuild it was Zso Sahaal who conducted the negotiations. This was during the days when Curze was planning his own trial and execution and was grooming a successor.

Curze spent the entire negotiations drugged into almost unconsciousness at First Captain Sahaal's orders.

Eventually a deal was reached between Vostroya and the Imperium, through it's Night Lords intermediaries. Those nobles responsible for the decision of not coming to the Imperium's aid would be executed cleanly and quickly, Vostroya would be put under Administratum rule for the next 30 years whilst a new batch of aristocrats came to the surface, one of the new fangled Adeptus Arbiters stations would be built in the capital and so long as the Imperium lasts the tithe would be the industrial produce of the world plus the first born son of any family with more than one son.

This was a steep price but gratefully accepted even by those who were going to be executed when First Captain Sahaal offered to stop drugging the Primarch and turn negotiations over to him.

Zso Sahaal's name is spoken with both hate and love on Vostroya.

Rumour has it that Underhive gangs have proven good recruitment grounds for the Night Lords and splinter groups in the millenniums since, but with all things concerning those sanctioned monsters nothing is easy to pin down with certainty.

>I had a cross country flight with hours of nothing to do except be productive, so this means Sangy is FINALLY FINISHED

Man cannot be brave without fear, nor can he have faith without doubt, and once again fear and doubt welled in Sanguinius’ heart as the terrible figure of the Beast grew larger in his vision. Not fear or doubt for himself, for death held no sway over him. No, it was fear for the future of man, for their fate hung in the balance, the existence of his entire species to be decided in the coming moments. It was doubt for the very meaning of his struggle, for while Sanguinius would gladly sacrifice himself a thousand times over, he wondered if even his greatest efforts could alter the cruel whims of fate.

But unlike before, when these weaknesses had gnawed on his resolve and allowed an opening for the whispers of Chaos, he now let them pass through him, accepting and facing down these unfamiliar feelings. And as they swirled inside them, he found a rock hard seed of hope deep in the core of his being. For Sanguinius believed in the spirit of man: in man’s resiliency, the sheer dogged stubbornness and will to endure; in his nobility, the greatness of heart and will to strive towards a better future; in his capacity for hope, the daring to dream even in the face of unfathomable darkness. And he believed in the Steward, his liege, his friend, his brother.
>>
>>50224361
Thus from the dark waters of doubt did the great rock of faith rise, renewed and immovable. Sanguinius felt his fears for the future of man dissipate, for he knew that humanity would carry on and flourish far into the future even without him to protect it, and with fresh eyes, he gazed upon the Beast and knew that even such a monster could not stand in the way of humanity’s ascent. Fear became bravery and tranquility; his mind was his own, his will was pure. In the middle of the plaza, as the Beast loomed over him, Sanguinius took a slow breath and savored his last quiet moment.

The tension broke as Sanguinius burst into motion, moving so quickly he was a blur even to the enhanced senses of his Astartes. With all his righteous fury and strength he surged into the air and slashed at the Beast’s head, the massive Ork barely catching the strike in time with its armored fist. The Beast staggered back several steps from the force of the blow as the Blood Angels and Custodes looked on in awe at the power of the Primarch, and the Ork’s features twisted into a leering grin of approval, acknowledging Sanguinius’ strength. It struck back, faster than anything that huge had right to be, so fast even Sanguinius barely had time to react. The servos in Sanguinius’ armor whirred and screeched as mechanical muscle and his own superhuman frame struggled to parry the Ork’s counterblow, the power fields around the Beast’s claws crackling as they skimmed the golden relic armor.
>>
>>50224377
And so the Beast and the Angel fought, the smaller frame of Sanguinius darting and striking between the Beast’s thunderbolt blows. The duel stretched on, with neither side seeming to take the advantage, and the Blood Angels allowed themselves to hope, to believe that their Primarch could win. Such hope was futile. Sanguinius could not have defeated the Beast alone even were he rested and at his full strength, perhaps fighting the monster to a standstill at best. But Sanguinius was not rested; he was wounded and weary from days of battle against the most savage foes of man, and as the duel continued blood trickled from his armor as days-old wounds reopened under the ferocious strain of combat.

A low rumble came from the Beast then, a sound of grating iron and gloating amusement, and the Astartes realized it was laughing. The Beast’s fist whipped forward in a blur, catching Sanguinius in a misstep as the massive punch caught the Angel in the chest, and he was thrown hurtling through the air, crashing through one of the few remaining statues in the plaza before tumbling to a halt on the shattered granite.
>>
>>50224400
With a cry, the remaining Astartes and Custodes rushed forward to the aid of their Primarch, determined to sell their lives as dearly as possible, and from the other end of the plaza the horde of Nobz broke ranks as well, no longer able to contain their bloodlust. As Sanguinius struggled to his feet, armor cracked and blood matting his golden hair and white wings, he gazed into the mocking black eyes of his hated foe and he vowed that the Beast would not leave the plaza without bleeding dearly. In a moment, Azkaellon was at his side, pulling him to his feet, and Sanguinius joined his men in their final charge across the plaza.

Even as exhausted as they were, the Blood Angels each fought with unmatched valor: individual Astartes held off a dozen Nobz as others hurled themselves at the Beast, sacrificing themselves to try to force an opening in the monster’s defenses. The Beast was more than eager to oblige, roaring as it swiped left and right, crushing scores of Astartes with each blow. Before the unstoppable blows of the Beast and the crushing numbers of Nobz, the defenders were forced back across the plaza, until they were backed up to the steps before the Eternity Gate itself.

As his men died to the last around him, Sanguinius finally sensed an opening in the Beast’s defenses. He made a quick gesture at Azkaellon who understood immediately, and the captain flew into the air, flame roaring from his jump pack as he slashed at the Beast’s face, distracting the Ork.
>>
>>50224428
As the faithful captain was crushed by the monster’s fist, Sanguinius summoned the final reserves of his strength and leaped with a great flap of his wings. Blinded by the smoke and flame in its eyes, the Beast was caught unaware as Sanguinius descended from on high and plunged his golden blade through crude armor plates, deep into its chest, seeking the heart that lay beneath. The Beast roared in pain as the sword carved open a massive wound, thick spurts of blood bursting forth, but as Sanguinius drew his sword from the Ork’s chest it caught in the sternum bone, and the momentary pause was enough. The Beast’s hand shot up and seized the Primarch from the air, pinning Sanguinius within the massive fist.
>>
>>50224443
Outside the plaza, the other Blood Angel companies had rushed to aid of their Primarch and First Company upon hearing Azkaellon’s call for reinforcements. They neared the plaza as Sanguinius was dueling the Beast, but they found their way blocked by the horde of Nobz, and even with all their desperate strength, they could not break through the wall of hulking greenskins, for the Orks were simply too savage and too many. It was only upon the arrival of Leman Russ and Lorgar, the only two Primarchs close enough to respond to the call for aid, and their legions of Space Wolves and Word Bearers that the reinforcements were finally able to make headway.

Together, the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Word Bearers hacked their way through the Orks and crested the stairs to the plaza just in time to see the Beast grab Sanguinius in its massive fist, the plaza strewn with masses of dead greenskins and lifeless bodies clad in red and gold. As they looked on in stunned horror, Sanguinius turned his head to face them, and against all their expectations, he gently smiled. It was an expression of true warmth, forgiveness, and trust that shone from Sanguinius’ beatific face, a gesture that he did not blame them and that he placed his faith with them to safeguard humanity. In that final moment, as tears welled in their eyes, the Astartes could only watch helplessly as the Beast’s fist closed, and the monster ripped Sanguinius into shreds.
>>
>>50224458
With cries of grief, the Imperial forces threw themselves at the greenskins in a blind rage. Leman Russ led the assault, tearing his way through the Nobz to body of Lord Commander Arik Taranis of the Custodes. There, he seized the fallen Banner of Unification and raised the great standard for the last time, rallying the Imperial forces forward. Yet for all their fury, the Astartes could not cut through the Orks in time, and were forced to watch, helpless once again, as the Beast smashed through the adamantium of the Eternity Gate to face the Steward and Eldrad within the Throne Room.

As the last Ork fell and the Imperial forces made their way to the ruins of the Eternity gate amidst corpses of crimson and gold, they found Eldrad perched upon massive chest of the lifeless Beast, and the Steward kneeling over a red ruin, cradling the last few pieces of his old friend. Later, Eldrad would confess that they never could have defeated the Beast were it not for the great wound Sanguinius carved into its chest, and in his quiet moments the Steward, later the Emperor, wondered if his friend and brother might have been saved, had he only chosen a different Primarch and legion to defend the palace, or sallied forth from the Throne Room to save the Angel as he dueled the Beast.
>>
>>50224485
In the aftermath of the Battle of Terra, as the forces of Chaos were defeated and driven back from the planet in disarray, the Blood Angels spirited away the remains of Sanguinius to the shattered land of what had once been Duscht Jemanic. There, the garden of the old Jemanic Palace, they buried Sanguinius in his favorite childhood refuge, a solitary place with a creek, quiet and clear, and where the trees were very old.

As word spread of the Primarch’s death, cries rose from across the Imperium for a great state funeral so that all might participate in grieving and remembering the beloved Angel. The Steward agreed, urging the remaining Blood Angel captains that such gesture would help the survivors and citizens of the Imperium move on from the loss, but they stubbornly refused. Sanguinius would have wanted the resources and efforts of the Imperium focused on rebuilding and moving forward, not spent on lingering in the past, and besides, there was not enough left to fill a casket.
>>
>>50224495
Today, Sanguinius is the most dearly loved of the Primarchs, revered as the Martyr Angel for his great sacrifice. Secrets do not last long in the Imperium, and upon his burial site, where Sanguinius was to rest undisturbed for eternity, there now stands a small chapel, built with reluctance by the Blood Angels when word of their Primarch’s resting place was revealed. It was, after all, better than erecting a massive cathedral there as many demanded. Pilgrims wait for years on end for a chance to enter and glimpse one of the holiest relics in the Imperium: a single white pinion feather from one of Sanguinius’ wings, miraculously untouched by blood or dirt during the four days of the Siege of the Imperial Palace.

Sanguinius is also honored in the yearly celebration of the Sanguinala; coincidentally, his death came three days after his birth on the Terran calendar, so for this span of time all are encouraged to celebrate the Angel’s life and great deeds, and to share in his spirit of goodwill towards all. Traditional decorations of red are hung in homes, and children are told that if they are good, the spirit of Sanguinius will visit them as they sleep and leave presents under their beds.
>>
>>50224507
As for the Blood Angels, the fierce spirit of their Primarch still burns within their twin hearts as brilliantly as it did ten millennia ago. The First Company of their chapter is called the Death Company, in memory of the sacrifice of the entire company when they died at Sanguinius’ side long ago, and when veterans are inducted into this august group they swear the Oath of Black Rage, a remembrance of the helpless grief and fury they felt as they watched their beloved Primarch die.

Amongst Imperial citizens, they are celebrated for their compassion, virtue, and defense of the common man; the melancholy Blood Angel clad in red is a popular figure in Imperial media, most recently in the popular romance Eventide, where a young Eldar farseer is caught between the affections of a rugged Space Wolf and noble Blood Angel. Yet for all the adoration and honors rightly bestowed upon the Blood Angels for their undying defense of the Imperium, the old veterans have begun to wonder if the younger Astartes are becoming vainglorious, and if they are losing the true meaning of sacrifice. Pride is the surest road to damnation, and so they renew their vows of humility and loyalty, remaining vigilant not only in the defense of man but in defense of their own souls.

Beneath the romance of their devotion and nobility is the eternal struggle against the forces of chaos and entropy, the unending duty of the Blood Angels. Like Sanguinius before them, they fight for the dream of humanity even as it stretches before them into an uncertain future. For this dream, they fight and bleed and die to hold the darkness at bay, to halt the dying of the light, even if it is only for a moment.

This.

The ye olde hive fleets arrived earlier.

Battle for Maccragge happened some considerable time ago.

There are still fragments of Behemoth, Leviathan, Kraken, Níðhöggr, Dagon and others all floating around after their defeat at great cost. Exception for Leviathan that is still all mostly in one place, that place being the Ork Empire of Octarius.

It was thought/hoped that their defeat was permanent, that this hard won victory across a hundred thousand worlds represented the breaking of the back of some great foe.

It was not. It was the stubbing of the toe of a hungry giant.

Kryptman enacted his Gambit in his relative youth this time around, catching Leviathan and Orks in perma-combat at a much earlier date. Now he's pushing 800 and the rejuvenant drugs are barely doing anything and he is probably going to die knowing that he didn't buy the Imperium as much time as he hoped he would have.

The Hive Fleet is out in the intergalactic abyss preparing and positioning to strike the entire Eastern Fringe and possibly more simultaneously.

I'd enjoy it if in-setting its generally held that the Men of Gold were lost in the early, excessive horrors of the age of strife, with the official histories being both very firm and true, and very particular in using epic description to avoid the massive gaps in knowledge. There ought to be several systems that show circumstantial signs of this scale of glory and folly, and several very classified encounters that very well could have been Men of Gold. These encounters are all just as easily the work of any other piece of crazy bullshit running amok in the galaxy, and any information learned is wildly contradictory to any other encounter.
Between the possibility of the Emperor being the sole golden man and legends of a legion of gleaming shipwrights building The Ship That Moves in the segmentum obscuras there is, among the few mighty scholars that knew at all, no consensus or dominating theory as to the current status of any other Man of Gold.

What we know (that I can remember at the moment) of the Raid so far.

Malcador and Eldrad were responsible for a team of skilled and powerful psykers of both human and eldar respectively. They used the semi-derelict webway portal the Warlord dug up in the earliest days of the Great Crusade to form a warp rift tearing all the way to the Realm of Chaos.

Malcador and Eldrad's teams were responsible for holding the rift open.

There were a few Primarchs who went into the rift alongside the Warlord as a bunch of Phoenix Lords and some of the more badass Space Marines, Bjorn the Fellhanded being the most famous.

After the War of the Beast Perty in his twilight years oversaw most of the rebuilding and the plans for the rebuilding for the parts that were at the time still glowing and/or smoking.

Despite the fears of many who believed he would rebuild Old Earth into a brutal and efficient design that would be strong but lacking humanity he went in the other direction. The major cities were rebuilt as fortified hives but extremely pleasantly designed ones that people liked to live in. Great arcology clusters of surprising beauty and a beauty that hid things like the reinforced walls, killing grounds, bottleneck choke points and places that could mount heavy weapons to have overlapping firing arcs.

And between the fortified hives agricultural land was planned out that was almost diabeetus causing in its picturesque nature but also highly productive for all that. A few centuries after The Beast was slain and Old Earth was looking like a green and pleasant land not seen since the Dark Age.

It was Perty's final, total victory. The scars had been healed so well that it was almost as if The Beast had never even been.

Perty died happy or as close to happy as he was capable.

It should be that there actually aren't any other MoG left save the Emperor, last of his kind.

There have been other things that people might mistake for them but only because nobody remembers what the MoG were. Even when Malcador salvaged Unusual Item 43/Oscar/Warlord the information they had on him was half remembered and obscure.

In universe the Inquisition and the Explorators search for other MoG but they couldn't have been made later than M25 and so it would have to have been preserved and hidden for ~15,000 years by M41.

The Ship that Moves is one of the biggest secrets of the Inquisition and Mechanicus. What information that has leaked out has been hilariously exaggerated.

It is the final contingency plan. The ultimate Plan B.

If the Imperium falls it launches.

It's a highly modified Omnissiah class ship. It is modified to survive for thousands upon thousands of years at minimal power and activity.

The captain in the one Inquisitor of Ordo Desolatus, held in stasis. It's cargo is rack upon rack of genetic samples and frozen embryos.

The crew are cybered up to the very edge of what is legally allowed before you start treading into A.I. territory. Metal can shut down cleanly and is far more efficient than flesh. The crew are in stasis.

If the Imperium falls it launches into the intergalactic blackness.

???

The Ship was a 50K setting /tg/ once made. The Emperor returned and all the civilized races built a ship over eight light minutes long and got the fuck out of the galaxy in it.

Ordo Desolatus according to Google is a minor ordo with unknown purpose and only 1 Inquisitor.

Omnissiah class ship is the biggest type of Mechanicus ship.

Except for Krieg as they have already proven themselves militantly anti-fun with artillery and gas. On the up side, they only killed about a dozen people with the warning shot

so where are our heaviest points of noble darkness in the setting, and do they fall in similar places as normal 40K's heaviest grimdark?

I wonder, is the writefag doing Fulgrim still around?

It would seem not. Or he's given up on the idea.
>>
>>50245060
I am, I'm just getting nowhere on Fulgrim because I'm drowning in coursework. I've been posting Man of Gold tidbits because I can't carve out the time to really get moving on Fulgrim. So far I've had him born in the Merican Chemos-mercantile dominion's population program, decanted as a baby grown from randomly paired gamete samples taken out of the population's deceased (still thinking late Merica should be verging on slaaneshi/normal 40K levels of human excess). He grows up as a worker in the Chemos-dominion labs and begins to ascend as a scientific and social savant in his early adulthood. This is possible because while merika is mostly a strictly hierarchical military-mercantile system it likes to sell itself as a brutal militarized meritocracy. He gets high enough as a inventive savant that he is loaned out to Merican military forces and fights in border skirmishes against Hy Braseal before deployment in conflicts surrounding the fall of Ursh. After his tour of duty he enjoys a Gatsby-esque social peak at the apex of his career paid for by a Gatsby-esque reinvention of himself and foray into Ozymandias/Vedit-esque pretensions of puppet mastery. He gets some minor cool stuff done but fails and is gonna be dragged out and shot by his superiors when the warlord's spies make him vanish and recruit him as one of their agents in the Merican campaign. that's about as far as I've got.

Looking good.
>>
>>50245670
Looks good if you can pull it off but keep in mind that Fulgrim isn't hyper intelligent so much that he is a compulsive perfectionist.

Also that Merika isn't a corporate Oligarchy so much as it is a Stratocracy with state sponsored capitalism.

To get anywhere Fulgrim would have to have done at least some time in the military prior to becoming Gatsby in order to get the leverage to become a great manipulator.
>>
>>50246931
He's such a perfectionist he became a weapon smith sufficient to compete with Ferrus Mannus. I'd imagined him obsessively improving his skills under Chemos and progressing within internal ranks as a general savant, which seems to fit his canon origin, joining or being given to the Merican military as an asset, proving himself in the field and gaining a commissioned rank of some kind, returning and reinventing himself, improving the whole time. He may plateau until he is contacted by the emperor and made an astartes, he could get caught when he starts trying to make himself superhuman on his own. I'm not actually sure why or when he should be given Astartes treatments.
>>
>>50247558
>Why
Astartes are better than mortal men in more or less every measurable way. He wants to be better than lesser men.

>When
First in the batch of Mk3.

Dorn is in an earlier design that was more prone to faults and as such had the desensitization problems that eventually lead to his masochism. Dorn was part of Calbi and Calbi was liberated from Merika occupation.

Therefore Fulgrim must be one of the first batch of Mk3 whilst Dorn is part of the last batch of Mk2.

Is that the record disc story from scp?
>>
>>50247853
I do not know. Quick google brought me to the picture perched between an article about an infinite staircase and a mirror seeking rock, neither seemingly had anything to do with the picture.

I'm currently reading my way through the SCP list but am only up to SCP 317.
>>
>>50247896
Love the staircase , I've only read the top 20 stories , I'm not autistic enough to read them all
>>
>>50247678

According to these posts >>50134498 >>50155257 (assuming they're accurate) Dorn would actually be a Mk I, and Fulgrim is a Mk II since that design was created by the fleeing scientists. Him being a Mk II might also be good fuel for him to continue being a perfectionist as an Astartes, since he wants to prove he's still superior to the Mk IIIs
>>
>>50247928

I find them interesting for light reading and there is nothing on tv worth watching.

Also I shamelessly steal from the list for random encounters and monster ideas.
>>
>>50247932
Sounds well thought out.
>>
>>50247941
Everybody does that haha. I just bought a shit load of 40k books for under 20 bucks. The grey knights omnibus was one an I'd be pissed if I bought it full price. First book was really good the it sucked hard, like I want my time back suck

Should Tallarn in this AU still be a productive and lovely agri-world?
>>
>>50248699
No, we already got the basis for Tallarn
>>
>>50248763
What happened to it?
>>
>>50247896
I pray you're going through them by Highest Rated rather than numerical order
>>
>>50249734
Numerical.

Up to 333 now.

Why, what's wrong with this way?
>>
>>50250315
Not the guy you replied to, but it's because most of them are mediocre or shitty and it's only the rare few that are worth reading.
>>
>>50250315
Numerical order is related to neither quality or chronology. If you look at the higher slots (around 2500+ these days probably) you can see a lot of [ACCESS DENIED]; authors pick any number they like to post theirs under. You can get fantastic articles in the higher series (for me, the 1800s are full of gems, relatively speaking) but absolute lower down. The first 100 and the Heritage Collection don't have this problem as much since they've been preserved a long time and all really qualify for "old but gold" status, even if some of them are meh at best. You'll learn to recognise the most famous ones in time - since all the newbies try and cross-reference (no matter how many times it's warned against in the rules) or how many fanboys want a Book/Film/Vidya based on them in the forum pages - but Top Rated manages to give a whirlwind tour of the best without being hivemindy like Heritage.
tl;dr: for the love of god and all that is holy, ditch numerical order.
>Top rated page is basically the Greatest Hits album. Used to be dominated by articles, but ever since black white black white grey got in there've been more and more foundation tales reaching the top level.

>Heritage Collection are the most well known and/or influential as voted by members. Criticised as a circlejerk over stale old content for how heavily it overlaps with top rated, but still makes a good Bluffer's Guide To The SCP Foundation
