Also, Voidwatcher is an obviously scheming and untrustworthy guy, but that makes him partially predictable. The Emperor knows he's always going to be looking out for number one, and before the Heresy big E can't see any possible reason that the Voidwatcher would think betrayal would benefit him. He assumes, rightly, Void is just gonna ride the whole Imperium Wave and then get put down by all his brothers if he eventually tries to rebel. Moreover, I think the Emperor would be pretty hesitant to kill the guy he wanted to sit the Golden Throne and lead the legion of Psykers, seeing as he's basically the most irreplaceable of the irreplaceable Primarchs.

Voidwatcher's issue was that he created the perfect Tzeentch Legion, and yet was dead against them being exactly what they were. In any case most of the Legion would end up Tzeentch because he is the master of Sorcery.

We're down an undivided Legion. Crimson Teeth were (Supposedly) Undivided, though they came off as Khornate. Just like Augurs come off as Tzeentch.

Let's be honest: The Tzeentch Legion is always going to be strongly Psyker, because that's how Tzeentch rolls. That's how his armies work, and how he manipulates the mortal realms.

The Augurs are kind of a one-hit wonder. They're pretty much gone after they do their one thing. Even the Voidwatcher just dies offscreen to his Equerry. And given just how evil and backstabby they are the Legion would self-destruct and fall to extinction within a few millennia of the Heresy. There would be less then a handful left by M41, at any rate.

They don't stay as one legion, they kinda just spin off into all their little individual covens across the galaxy. Either attached to larger warbands, living as weird hermits, or even lording over Chaos Worlds. I always saw them kinda devolving into more of a culture or cult, than your proper warbands. They worship the deified Voidwatcher and subscribe to a certain system of recruitment. There might be Black Augur covens with no actual Space Marines in it.

The Legion I was gonna propose was a bunch of the most ultra-shredded martial artists/gurkhas who believed that force was the only aspect of war that mattered. Basically based off a Bruce Lee quote I found a while ago.

Imperium Asunder talk a lot, but they produce far less. Their Legion and Primarch Pages are nowhere near as detailed and comprehensive as the Hektor Heresy ones, their Heresy is barely covered and there's a ton of gaps. They talk a lot about their Primarchs and Legions, but do very little with that.

That kinda fits with the fluff I could incorporate. The legion I was gonna propose, to be called the Astral Tigers, would be all about focused power. Find your opponents most valuable part, largely regardless of what defenses it has, and then hit it so hard they die. This scales from both personal to strategic scale. If the enemy has an HQ, you fucking smash it. If the enemy has a heart or spine, you rip it out. If you're not strong enough to do that, either get more guys in a smaller area or work out more, respectively.

Jupiter:

Out beyond the inner Solar System, Jupiter sat as a midway point between the Saturn defenses and the Mars/Terra area. The Shipyards there had long supplied the Legions with much of their fighting strength, and now the traitors sought to cut off that supply. Station would turn on station, moon on moon as the complex web of allegiance frayed and tore and old allies became new enemies.

Jupiter Sector as it was officially known was the entire Sol System in miniature, the moons and void stations orbiting the colossus the way it orbited the distant sun. Old feuds and rivalries had been supressed but not entirely destroyed by the coming of the Emperor, and the fragile peace of Jupiter Sector rested on a delicate balance of power that Hektor would upset and overturn.

Many of the moons of Jupiter had been long inhabited by the time of the Rebellion, and each had its own unique culture. Ganymede was a teeming Hive World, over four billion souls crowded into the many great domes that emerged from the rock-slush surface, their populace the chief labor source for the Shipyards as well as fuelling the Jovian Grenadier Regiments of the Imperial Army. Great barge cities filled with the richest, most powerful and most famous in Jupiter Sector circuited the ocean moon of Europa, which in the deep past had been locked in ice before the might of the golden age of technology had been turned upon it. Callisto held domes where metals and water were mined, while the Volcanic Io held yet more miners who slaved away in the toxic conditions to extract Sulphur and metals. Even more miners were clustered through the thousands of Asteroids around Jupiter extracting yet more minerals to feed the ever-hungry factories and Shipyards of the Sol System.

Hundreds of void stations were dotted throughout the sector, most clustered around the core worlds of the Jovian Moons, with a few outliers dotted here and there. Civilian stations like Sunflower Station orbiting Europa held the excess population of the great Hives, research stations such as the Shukenjya Base above Io furthered the cause of Imperial science, and major military instillations like Kepler orbiting above the moon of Amalthea and the test-range of Themisto where all military grade ships first fired their guns were all vital parts of Jupiter Sector.

But most important of all were the great Shipyards, the reason for Jupiter’s importance to the Sol System. There were a dozen of them dotted all across the sector. The largest was Gan De Shipyards, which sat between the orbits of Io and Europa. The Gan De Shipyards were over three hundred kilometres across and a hundred kilometres deep. Within its berths, thousands of ships were built and launched in a constant stream, ranging from small Warp Runners to colossal Infernus Class Battleships seventeen kilometres long. Gan De was the only rival for the Iron Ring of Mars in terms of sheer output, with over two dozen new capital class warships launched there every year like clockwork.

Though it was the largest, it was by no means singular in importance. Others such as Marius Shipyard above Ganymede and Peiresc Shipyard between Ganymede and Callisto were just as important in producing ships for the Imperium, but one Shipyard stood above them all. Galeleo Shipyard was given over entirely to the construction of ships for the Legiones Astartes, the mighty Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers that were so essential to expanding the Imperium. This made Galeleo Shipyard preeminent in all of Hektor’s tactical considerations when his mind was turned to the problem of Jupiter Sector.

Alright, guys, we've got an issue here. There's already three competing ideas for a slot, and possibly about to be a fourth, as our friendly neighborhood Statanon also wants to pitch someone. Normally I would shuffle this off into the "someone else's problem" bin, but that's getting rather full and nobody's cleaning it up. So here's what I'm going to do. We've also brought up the old, "Why do we have to have 18 Legions, with 2 missing Primarchs?" discussion.

Well, there's a problem with that. We'll have three unworked Legion slots. And none of the time to do that in. Many of our writers have gone on to do bigger and better things, and can't contribute like they used to. Most of us can barely work on our own Legions, let alone cover down on multiple others. Don't get me wrong, I've long been a proponent of keeping 20 full Legions, as we're not really selling anything here. But that's also one of those fights that's not worth it.

If the Lost Legions were to be abolished and their places filled, we have one potential Legion already overhauled and ready to be slotted in. For a while before I fucked myself over for the second time I was working on a rebranded and rebuilt Crusaders, though I had some issues with how they felt like just Loyalist Lions Rampant (Both Tank Legions with hasty Primarchs). Above that the Legion is still mostly rebuilt and complete and could be quite swiftly brought back into the fold, with a few changes to where the Legion is and what it does during the Rebellion.

Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from, and it has my vote. But I'm (we're?) the minority in this regard. Please don't get my hopes up just for them to get crushed again.

We could still have lost legions when they are required for the story, but leave it as just that. Lost Legions that nobody says or knows anything about. Just that there might have been more than 20 at some point. But, again, that's just me.

That being said, it's late as fuck, and I have to be up early tomorrow. Where I fully intend to be around and active. Happy discussions, and have a good one. I will be back. Somebody keep this thread along, even if it's just Aubrey posting pictures of snakes.

Problem is we've got Lumey, the hardest proponent of the Imperial Truth, guiding the Imperium and it's creation for a long time after The Emperor is emplaced on the throne.

The idea I worked out with Uriel is that after Lumey goes away, the IT is still going strong, but Golgy's religion is basically a collection of Imperial Cults that would hold a core tenet of beliefs.

One of them that also accepts the rationality (to an extent) of the Truth within its structure, and has a basic belief as such:

>The Emperor is all-powerful
>The Emperor is anathema to the warp
>The Emperor's power is restricted because he is still limited by his physical form. If he were to die, his soul would go to the warp.
>Once in the warp, he would eliminate Chaos and stabilize the warp (see first two points)
>Therefore, perhaps Chaos wants him to stay on the throne. If he is hooked up to life support, he can not be a threat to Chaos in the warp or in realspace
>As such, the Emperor's plug needs to be pulled to save the Galaxy.

Individually, anyone who prescribes to this cult would be the Imperium's version of the tinfoil hat nutter saving MRE's and ammo for when OBUMMER AND THE UN COME TO TAKE MUH GUNZ.

Problem arises when someone who's got a decent enough amount of power/clout/etc prescribes to this, believes the HLOT are keeping the Emperor on the Throne intentionally and are corrupted by Chaos, and he decides to act.

He fails, the HLOT declare him and anyone who follows him or that specific cult are under the influence of Chaos, and decide they need to get ahead of this whole religion thing.

They do so by calling in a bunch of cult leaders and creating an official, government-backed version of the belief system that we know and love as the Imperiul Cult/Ecclesiarchy, granting them control over how the church/cult/masses believe in Big E.

If we need to fill a legion, I have one written out write now. After I got done writing out the rules for all your primarchs (currently posted on their 1d4chan pages) I got really bored and wrote up an entire legion, including primarch, rules, legiones astartes tactics, and everything.

They're based off 18th and 19th century American Exceptionalism mixed with a lot of european style colonialism. Basically everything good and bad about classical American/British society roled up into one. Huge legion with huge guns, but bad relations with the outside imperium, and horribly classist behind a facade of "equality and equal rights for all."

Naturally betray the emperor for MUH FREEDOM

Incentivizes artillery and very brave infantry, a la Iron Warriors), Charge up Sanaun Hill (roughriders baby! Allows you to take *obligatory cavalry elite squad* as troops, gives scout moves to and makes them scoring).

(R.O.W.s make upgrades cheaper, make mass production highly beneficial, make lots of tanks and artillery the way to go)

Legiones Astartes: Sons of Libery: Legion heavy weapon squads may elect to have Slow and Purposeful if they so choose. All units have Stubborn so long as their squad leader is still alive. The following upgrades are half cost: nuncio vox, legion vexilla, grenades/melta bombs.


The idea is to have an army of infantry and tanks slowly moving up the field blowing the fuck out of everything as they go, sort of like the bastard child of the Death Guard, Iron Hands, and Iron Warriors.

When the infant primarchs were stolen away from the Emperor's gene foundries on terra, one of the pods landed on a wartorn, blasted world. The young primarch's gestation pod came crashing down amid a battle, one more piece of flaming metal among the millions flashing through the air. When it struck the land it hit a bunker with great force, leveling the once mighty fortification in a cataclysmic explosion. When search teams were sent to investigate what had destroyed the command structure and inadvertantly won the battle, they found a child, barely more than a toddler, playing amongst the blasted, smoldering ruins.

Believing this child to be a gift from the heavens, the men took him back to their commanders. As the years went on the boy grew and learned, coming to know his home for what it was. Thomas grew faster than any mortal child, reaching adulthood in a mere handful of years, learning the weaponry and tactics used by the rebels to carry out their ongoing war, and most importantly, he took up their indomitable spirit. These were men who fought enemies whose weapons shot the very lightning of the sky, whose armor could tower five times the height of a man, whose ships flew the void between worlds and could blast away whole cities in a single shot. Yet these men, these ragged soldiers with no greater weapon than the musket, the sabre, and whatever they could steal from their overlords, continued to fight a war they knew they could never win.

No longer were they fighting peasants with primitive muskets and swords. In the first few engagements, they began to take fire from rifle-barreled canons that could actually pierce their armor. They fell into traps; pits dug by steam shovels and covered by a thin lattice of rusted metal. Soon they had to avoid urban areas all together, so rife were they with booby traps and concealed weapons.

As the years went by, the rebels became increasingly aggressive; they weren't content to merely fight on the defensive anymore. The nobles began to fall to their own weaponry, their powerful guns rigged to the top of simple internal combustion powered armored vehicles. Their bases faced shelling day and night, fired upon by artillery regiments that would melt back into the cities whenever they returned fire.

Great starships blackened the sky in preparation for the cleansing, yet the capital ship whose weapons were to burn the world just sat silently. Communications had stopped. Boarding parties were sent to investigate, and when they arrived, they found a ship under siege. Led by a towering warrior clad in steel plates, rebel forces had boarded the ship using the tyrants' own shuttles, and were taking the capital ship.With saber and pistol the rebels went deck by deck, slaughtering any who resisted them, but sparing all those who laid down their arms. Fearing that his ship was lost, the noble captain fled to the cargo bay, planning to don his armor and leap from the ship, to retreat to one of the few remaining rebel strongholds.

To his great terror, he found the armored giant who had led the boarding parties waiting for him. To his even greater surprise, the giant introduced himself as Thomas Magton, General of the Sons of Liberty, and allowed him to don his armor. The captain didn't understand, but he certainly wasn't going to complain. In moments his great Knight was awake, its shields crackling into life as his weapons came online. But before he could fire upon this upstart general, he died. A fifteen pound shell moving at six times the speed of sound punched straight through his suit's ion shielding and armor, killing the captain and his Knight in a thunderous detonation. Thomas had never intended to let the captain escape, but how often did he get the chance to test a weapon against the ion shielding of a noble's Knight armor from this close? He couldn't miss such an opportunity. Tempted as he was to stop and calibrate his experimental mass driver further, he instead commandeered the ship with his men, pressing the crew into service.

With the great guns of the capital ship trained on them, the rest of the fleet surrendered. The crewmen were pressed into service, and any noble who was willing to surrender his title and serve was spared, but demoted to the lowest ranks.

Over the following decades, Thomas Magton led the Sons of Liberty in freeing all other Extraterritorial worlds from their overlords, integrating their populace, pressing their armies into service, and giving them a true taste of freedom. By the time the Emperor arrived, the noble tyrants who had once ruled Columbia and dozens of other worlds had been destroyed, and Thomas was the Chancelor and General of a senate that ruled 65 inhabited worlds and moons, across 47 systems. They brought light and freedom wherever they went; worlds who had joined and aided their conquest had their standards of living raised and terraformed into lush garden paradises, with towering cities of gleaming steel and glass. Entire uninhabited planets and astroid belts were mined to feed the fires of industry, that freedom and peace might be enforced with the steel fist of Columbia's armies.

I'll work out the specifics of what they were doing during the great crusade and the heresy if the legion gets approved. They turn traitor because Hektor promises Thomas less imperial interference in how he governs his people, because he's getting sick of the Imperial Truth interfering with what he envisions as eventually being an egalitarian, pluralist society, once the wars stop. It doesn't work out quite like that (this is warhammer after all).

As the Great Crusade and Heresy go onward, we'll see less and less of the good sides of western society, and more of the bad sides. They'll get more imperialist, they'll start stripmining entire planets to feed their war effort, they'll get more and more elite and aristocratic with a massive wealth divide.

However, they're not going to be straight up chaos during the heresy. They're not even going to directly join the traitors, except for the basics of what they needed to do to stay on Hektor's good sides. No, they're going to basically be doing what the ultramarines did during the heresy: empire building. They'll build up a big stellar federation (empire), that's fortified all to hell, with dozens of garden worlds at the center, and strip mined fortress worlds on the edges, fortifying the sector. When the scouring comes around, they hold out for millenia, but become increasingly desperate and totalitarian over time until what was once an almost idyllic society is now a chaotic and loose alliance of heavily classist, blasted, stripmined worlds, a few dozen planets holding out against the empire.

For you: Pimpmobile. No. Unless you mean some kind of dedicated transport a la Perterabo's shadowsword or Dorn's Thunderhawk. Then throw me an idea, and I'll play around with it.

Aubrey vs Roman. I'm just gonna straight up say, Aubrey loses. Bad. Roman isn't supposed to lose a duel, that's just how he's written. Though Aubrey actually does better than any other primarch against him (save for Horus and The Voidwatcher, who can pull through with psychic shenanigans if he gets REALLY lucky rolling powers).

The two have identical stats (in a challenge), so you'd think it would be really close, but it's the special rules that make the difference. Aubrey's poisoned is worse than Roman's shred and +1S, and Aubrey's 2 wounds on a 6 thing hardly makes any difference at all, because Roman's Parry rule is going to be used by any smart player to negate any attack rolls of 6 50% of the time, so the two rules more or less cancel each other out. In the first round of combat, when Aubrey's at his best with those hatred rerolls, they strike at the same time. Roman inflicts 1.122 wounds after saves and IWND, whereas Aubrey inflicts 0.66, and he only gets worse after round 1 because he loses his parry.

Roman really can't be taken down in a fair duel, he's built not to. If you want to beat him, you HAVE to mess with his stat line somehow.

That said, Roman would never fight Aubrey if Aubrey's player didn't want him to, he's just too slow compared to Aubrey to catch him.

Although just for the record, I'll be rebalancing roman a bit later. After crunching him against other primarchs, he's coming out a bit more overpowered than I meant him to. He's supposed to be the best duelist in the galaxy. He's NOT supposed to be able to spank most Primarchs, a WoK Bloothirster, or a Wraithknight without taking a single wound. Kind of fell into the trap of making a character who's technically balanced in terms of relative tabletop value, but is too far to the right of the bellcurve compared to his peers.

Good stuff, but you should put a bit more effort into defining your primarch as a person, and the character of his legion. We know what events shaped them, and we know their specialties and history, but we don't know anything about their legion character beyond "indomitable spirit" and lots of BFG's.

As it sits now they read like a blend of Iron Warriors (lots of guns and artillery), Imperial Fists (dogged determination, unbeatable spirit), and Iron Hands (mechanized as fuck, don't care about causalities).


... Which in retrospect is actually a lot of legion character... But we still don't know much about the primarch!

Well, that was mostly just a fluff thing that he did early on. None of us really minded too much, it's a legacy thing from forever ago. Hell, it might not even be relevant anymore.

Ultimately, he was one of the few people who could keep all the various plot threads together in his head. I failed at that frequently.

And on the other hand, he tended to have very strong opinions on where exactly those plot threads should go, how they should be written, and how the story as a whole should look. This often conflicted with people's ideas.

He worked hard, and I appreciated that. He also tended to steamroll other people's ideas, which I didn't.

That's because Gaspard Lumey the Primarch is the Not!Guilliman of the Hektor Heresy. He is the Primarch who saved the Imperium, he is the Primarch who reformed the Space Marines and who is basically the Spiritual Liege of the Imperium (The Term 'Sinister Liege' is used). Though Lumey is no hero like Guilliman, he's a French Revolutionary Primarch who often stopped to terror tactics and summary executions to get his way and he upheld the Imperial Truth for long after the Rebellion ended.

As for Lumey's writer, he's a lot like his Primarch. Caustic, blunt, pointed, often arguing with people and unafraid to mince words. He often rubs people the wrong way. But as Arelex said, he was the main driving force in keeping things moving and pushing the project forward, even if his way of doing it tended to be oftentimes unpopular.

And for the guy who was writing rules for Arelex, it seems pretty accurate. The only thing I would mention is that of all the stats I felt Arelex might specialize in, mental/physical resilience would have been it. I liked the idea of a man who simply would not ever give up on the Emperor's quest, who believed that any loss was only delayed victory, and even if everything around him was reduced to nothing would only be thinking of how to rebuild.

Not exactly an optimist, but rather a person who never believed that ultimate victory was impossible, no matter how much father away it might move. Someone who was always willing to stand back up and try again.

I dunno if tabletop has any pertinent way to represent such a thing, but if it helps, there you go.

Actually, some of us went the opposite direction. Uriel is nothing like his Primarch described. When I started writing up the IR, they were loyalist reasonable marines. I think I went into a more fun route.

But, if you want opinions of Lumey, they are varied. There are times when he and his methods and thoughts are needed and appreciated. And there are times when they drive people away. Most of us are guilty of getting into spats with him at one time or another.

I remember when the Black Augurs were a legion of half-Eldar.

I'm going to post this here as well. It's a brief overview of my own idea as to how the Heresy goes down and what roughly happens.

After Hektor’s fall on Cadia, he begins to use his many connections to set things up for his rebellion. He knows that most of Sol Segmentum will side with him, and so he plans an Alesia type operation. Taking all of Segmentum Sol in the initial surge of rebellion, thus giving him the most densely populated and productive part of the Imperium under his command from the get-go. Terra and those systems closest to it will be encircled along with the half of the Cataphracts that are currently deployed on Terra, trapping them where they can be destroyed at leisure. While operations in the Sol System itself, on Luna, Mars and Jupiter ensures that the defences of Terra will be compromised well before the traitors arrive. At the same time an external wall around the Sol Segmentum is established with legions tasked with keeping those Loyal Legions on the furthest fringes (Void Angels, Steel Marshalls etc) from breaking through to Terra. With the Sacred Bands almost uniformly on-side with Hektor, there is a lot of internal agitation in some Legions to bring them into Hektor’s side which should either give Hektor the advantage in numbers, or keep those Loyal Legions paralyzed with internal infighting.

The Rebellion begins with three almost simultaneous actions against the three Loyal Legions that are either too close to Segmentum Sol or too dangerous to simply ignore. The War Scribes, rearming after a long and brutal campaign in the galactic east are instructed by Hektor to join him on a campaign against the remaining Ullanor Orks. And as both Legions prepare for their conjoined operation, the Heralds turn on the War Scribes and all but destroy them. At the same time the Scale Bearers, rearming over a Forgeworld are assaulted by the Iron Rangers and also devastated with their Primarch killed. And finally the Entombed are crushed with their now insane Dreadnought-Primarch destroyed (Details to be decided). In one swoop and three separate actions three major Loyal Legions are wiped off the map. In the aftermath Sol Segmentum largely falls to Hektor, Terra is encircled and the heart of the Imperium ripped out by Hektor.

From here, the Traitors suffer their setbacks. Before they can make their thrust towards Terra, they have to deal with foes in their rear. Chunks of Sol Segmentum do not idly submit, and Hektor has to pacify them to consolidate his holdings. The need for resources to fuel the Forges and Factories of Sol Segmentum means the Traitors have to move outwards to secure vital war materials. This sucks the Traitors into several massive battles that bog them down and sap their strength (Rosskar, Zhuko V). Loyalist Legions start to probe the outer walls of the Traitor Holdings. And those very powerful Loyal Forces outside Hektor’s control start to move back towards the heartland of the Imperium, and efforts to stop them (Dolsene, The Lion’s Corridor) fail.

Hektor, with his outer defences barely holding, turns inwards and attacks Terra, hoping his outer defences will keep the Loyalists at bay until after Terra is reduced. It fails, and the Rebellion is broken, the Traitors breaking out and heading north, fighting their way to the Eye of Terror

Well our plotline is rather significantly different from canon, in the Hektor Heresy things more or less happen the same, with different characters changing the details (in interesting ways, don't get me wrong). The traitors win the heresy and rule a daemonic Imperium from Terra while the loyalists lead 13 doomed Crusades out of their remnant empire in the east. Our Emperor is literally dead, killed by the Warmaster and (possibly) turned into a 6th warp deity, who opposes chaos in the heavens.

It's a question of how different you want your alternate canons to really be.

Corax was a quiet, introspective primarch. Very independent, almost to a fault, finding little use for convention and fanfare if it didn't serve his ends. H
