This is a thread to expand the fluff of the Chimera Legion, a chaos space marine warband that /tg/ randomly rolled up using the 1d4chan creation tables.

What we rolled and some little things we have so far:
Chimera Legion

>Organization
Legion warband with cultists

>Which legion?
Iron warriors

>Who do we worship and how much?
Neutral devotion to Chaos undivided

>Our beliefs?
Gods above all

>Our demeanor?
Honor among thieves

>Mutations?
Voices of evil

>Any notable figures?
A chaos champion who ascended to daemon princehood

>Homeworld?
Fleet based

>Combat doctrine?
Unorthodox warfare

>Special equipment?
Biological experiments

>Warband status?
Slightly under strength

>Why?
A part of the Warband was assimilated by or was attacked by another Chaos-aligned entity.

>Who likes us?
Another chaos warband or lord

>Who are our enemies?
An Ork WAAAAAGH/warboss

>What about minor Xenos?
Some possibly exitinct Ayyyyylmaos AKA the Uluméathic League

This has led to a relatively affable group of mad scientist bioterrorism mercenaries, with an attendant body horror cult of henchmen.
>>

The initial goal of this thread is to really establish our leader and figurehead, Thodos the Ironbringer, and to establish iconography and paintschemes for the warband.

Here's some discussion starters to kinda get the ball rolling.

>What is Thodos' backstory, who was he before ascension to Daemonhood?
>What kind of leader is he?
>What are his current abilities?
>What notable history does he have?

>In your perfect world, what does Thodos look like?

>In your perfect world, what does the Chimera Legion paint scheme look like?

>What major iconography is present in the warband?
>>
So do we just have Obliterators in place of Havocs and Termies?

I mean we've established that the Chimeras make use of Raptors and Warp Talons and even have several flocks in the Bleeding Roost. But some input on the the status of our Heavy Support might be good.

Also our "Daemon Engines" should probably have nods to New Phyrexia as they are made in roughly the same way (Take five people, bolt em together roughly, hack the screaming mass of limbs in half and weld the halves to some large death world lifeform, turn the whole thing inside out and bolt armour and legs to it, inject Obliterator virus and then jam a Daemonhost up its arse.)

>>In your perfect world, what does Thodos look like?
Nine or ten foot tall, missing an arm a leg and Power Sword embedded into his head.

Both missing limbs have cables and wires exploding from the wound site and in the case of the arm these are flailing and writhing in the air while the leg has grabbed a servitor and reshaped it.

The power sword has been incorporated into his head and now visibly crackles with energy when he speaks.

I have a loyal sm chapter I can donate to /tg/ if you like. They also have a chaos faction.

Posting my take on the Daemon Prince from last thread, although it could also just be a particularly badass Obliterator
>>
>>49547020
Obliterators and Mutilators, yes.

I don't know if we decided if we were using Daemon Engines at all. These guys are mainly focused on using biotechnology to enhance themselves, enhance their cultists, or help them get Obliterated
>>
>>49546966
I envisioned Thodos as a particularly badass Iron Warriors champion. His martial skill was one thing, but what really shined through was his willpower - enough to allow him to bend the Obliterator virus he adopted to his will - and his interpersonal skills, ie: despite being a champion he managed to attract throngs of warpsmiths, cultists, and aspiring future Obliterators to him at the promise of power and direction, as opposed to constant backstabbing and no real purpose.

I still liked the idea that he looks like the Michael Bay Megatron with fleshgoop popping out of him.

He can do anything a normal Oblit does, but even better. He's VERY versatile. Though he likely still issues advice and commands from beyond the veil of reality, I feel like he probably is only ever summoned by the warband if they really need someone dead, as Thodos is probably really keen on challenges.

>RING RING
>"Hey. Yeah, what's up guys?"
>"Hey Thodos, we're having a lot of trouble with this Warboss, we tried to make him a sleeper agent but he wound up taking over, if you could pop in and-"
>"A Warboss? You're calling me for a Warboss? Handle it your own goddamn selves"
>CLICK

>RING RING
>"*sigh* What is it?"
>"Thodos, hey, yeah, we've got this Avatar of Khaine that's been giving us shit"
>"an AVATAR?! Come on guys, they've even got Chaplains killing Avatars these days, figure it out."
>"But Thodos, he's really hard-"
>CLICK

>RING RING
>"I swear to god, if you guys are calling me for some Dreadnought knocking over your fucking building blocks I will-"
>"Swarmlord."
>"...I'll get my stuff."

>>49547790
In reference to the Daemon Engines I'm just going to repost this for posterity. I think its a good summation of their design philosophy.

>Allow me to go on a tangent, if I may.

>Consider the Chimera. A noble, savage, proud beast, but it is greater than the sum of its parts.

>Take the lion, for example. Strong, unyielding, proud. The lion makes the Chimera strong, but strength is overcome by guile and wit, and worn down in the face of adversity.

>But what of the Ram? Yes, the humble ram. He who is of a mindless herd, yet bold, tough, adaptable. The ram may not have the strength of the Lion, nor the venomous faculties of the clever serpent, but he is tenacious and adaptable, able to survive where the others cannot.

>And what of the viper? That most insidious limb of the honourable Chimera. It whispers, flitting in and out of the brush. The Malevolent snake is the alien mind of the Chimera, offering tainted knowledge and deadly venom to an otherwise dumb beast.

>Thus is the marine of the Chimeric Legion , as is their machine God, Thodos the Ironbringer. Proud metal to strengthen changing flesh fueled by the warp.

>Steel and Iron.

>Flesh and Bone.

>Warp and Daemon.

>This is the path that leads to perfection. This is the evolution of the terrible Chimera.

>Should this not be the path of Thodos and his Brothers and Sons, oh brothers mine?
>>
>>49548348
>>"...I'll get my stuff."
I'd love if after this he had this to say.
>"I retire for five minutes and everything goes to shit."
>>
Imagine if they decided to devote some time to making Obliterators out of Blanks?
>"You have no soul!"
>"That's why I have no fear."
>>
>>49548452
Clever, clever. When first posting that picture of Megatron I considered him instead, but I thought he looked too clean.
>>
>>49548462
I think the abject lesson we can take away from this is simple: Don't make a Blank into an Obliterator.
>>
>>49546966
I'm thinking for the color scheme we stick close to the standard IW scheme but incorporate more red, as an allusion to flesh and blood. Maybe have red instead of yellow hazard stripes. Also I'm thinking maybe have the color scheme be a bit "warmer" overall. Like replace the iron with bronze, or at least have bronze pauldrons but keep the rest of the iron.
>>
>>49548947
I like the bronze idea, not so sure about the red. If we replace all the iron with bronze, would that be enough of a difference?
>>
>>49549095
So would we go bronze armor with gold trim and hazard stripes, or go bronze armor with iron trim and hazard stripes? I personally like the second option.

Red can just naturally appear as eye-lights and blood. That's more sinister.
>>
>>49549140
I'm trying to remember the difference between armor and trim, but full bronze is kind of Khorne's thing. Maybe iron armor with bronze trim, and keep the yellow hazard stripes?
>>
>>49549252
Well that's just IW scheme with browner trim. Also brass is Khorne's metal, which is much more "yellow" than bronze. But this is just me being a fag about minor color discrepancies.
>>
>>49549328
>>49549252
>>49549140
>>49549095
Maybe something more understated? These guys are supposed to be professional mercenaries after all

What about all black with a bronze right arm? Hazard stripes are applied sparingly
>>
>>49549452
I like the idea of a bronze right arm. It gives the warband a degree of consistence across all their troops. It's kind of a way of showing just who they are besides their heraldry.
>>
>>49549452
Perhaps an ashy grey instead?

It would complement the bronze nicely.
>>
>>49549590
Matte grey as opposed to iron grey? That might be a bit flat. Maybe if we had a bronze arm AND bronze trim. That way we limit the amount of different metallics and sort of give the impression that the bronze from the arm in laced into the rest of the armor. Not literally of course, but from a design perspective.

As for the heraldry, I believe we agreed a half-IW skull half-hellish lion face over a biohazard symbol. Perhaps the skull be iron/grey, the lion be bronze, and the biohazard symbol be red/hazard yellow.
>>
>>49549667
I agree, iron grey with a bronze arm and highlights would look nice
>>

>>
>>49550144
I'd draft something up in the ol' B&C painter, but it'll come out looking a little drab. Also I don't have the capabilities of adding hazard stripes or anything. If anybody with photoshop or whatever wants to draft up a nice, shiny example they will be lauded.
>>
>>49549452
Cobra/Titan color scheme would look rather nice I think.
>>
>>49550236
Titan?

And yeah, the cobra colors may look nice. Feel free to through out ideas for schemes
>>
>>49550236
What's the Cobra color scheme exactly? Blue, black, and red? I don't know if blue would really work for a non-Tzeentch warband. Maybe blue steel.
>>
>>49551085
Blue Steel could work. Maybe with the bronze arm and red/hazard yellow chevs?
>>
>>49551469
Someone through it into the Painter, and lets see!

I'm on mobile so that's a no go for me
>>
>>49551469
Yes. I think this codifies it. All we need is a photoshopper or something. Could a drawfag whip up the heraldry in the meantime?

Decent! Mind if I ask what hex code you used for the bronze?

The blue steel is a bit too blue, I imagine it'd come out more like some Grey Knights or maybe a lighter version of Heresy Alpha Legion.

Question to all anons: which arm SHOULD be bronze?
>>
>>49552831
For the bronze I used #CD7F32 (Bronze)

You want to take another whack at it? Maybe make the left leg yellow so all you have to do is spend six years in paint to add the black lines?

Also Right

I also tried to draw Thodos.

Its awful
>>
>>49553185
It could use a lot of refinement, but I think ot could work.

This does Inspire me to write something though...
>>
>>49552626
Shouldn't the whole leg be hazard striped?

It looks okay though, for a first try
>>
>>49552626
Add decals as desired.
>>
>>49547738
>>49553185

I think Thodos should look less like your standard DP and more like a nightmare of flesh and guns. Super Edgy Megatron is still my first choice.
>>
>>49553769
Agreed. We've established these pics aren't necessarily Thodos, we just don't have any drawfags up to the level needed to actually depict him. No offense to current drawfags, but you see how many fuckin' fiddly bits are on Megatron.
>>
>>49553769
>>49553794
Nonono, I think he has to be much more coherent. Even megatron has a distinct flow in all his armour plates.

Lets just settle on his distinguishing features and then I'll see if I can hit up the Drawthreads.
>>
>>49553669
This works. Anybody disagree?
>>
>>49554041
I liked the drawings where he had four arms, one with a melta/lascannon, one with a defiler claw, one with a warhammer, and one with a missile pod or autocannon.

Also, why not make him have a set of grinders for a mouth? Might be cool
>>
>>49554102
It all looks very smashed together. Like a regular Obliterator.

Thodos needs to look more refined and seamless, like this is how he's MEANT to look
>>
>>49554048
We are adding the hazard stripes on the left leg and pauldron, right?
(my left, not his left)

>>49553794
drawer of >>49547738 here, I've said a few times I'm fine with the Megatron-Daemon-Prince idea, just so long as I don't have to draw it. That shit is well beyond my ability.
>>
>>49554154
>>49554179
You make a good point with the refined look but let's only use Megatron as inspiration rather than an outright basis for Thodos
>>
>>49554179
We'll add them wherever they work, likely on one leg and maybe a vambrace.
>>
Okay, so potential alternative fluff for my dude:

Among the higher ranks of malformed horrors that make up the Chimera Legion, there is little room for individuality. The Obliterator virus bestowed upon their most senior warriors leaves the mind shattered; each victim unique in their physical affliction, but identical in their madness.
However, there are always exceptions to the rule. These exceptions have proven to be invariably more terrifying than their counterparts.
Echidnus, the Toothed Maw, the Perpetually Armed, the Nemesis Trove, (and in some circles The Challenged), is such an exception. What scraps of sanity are left in his diseased mind queerly echo the hunger for glory and sheer avarice that drove him to this form.
His great bulk outstrips even his fellow Obliterators, and his four arms, a gift from the gods before his infection, are studded and intertwined with veritable arsenal of firearms. But his most apparent feature is his back, pierced with dozens upon dozens of diverse and esoteric weaponry. Some have been overgrown so completely that only the hilts now show; certainly there must be many more completely engulfed by his hide.
Echidnus roams the battlefield independent of the Chimera's battle-lines, attended by a pack of Chaos Spawn that feed on his kills. Upon seeing an enemy wielding a weapon that he desires, he charges towards the unlucky foe in a crude imitation of a half-forgotten challenge ritual. After slaughtering the enemy, he will retrieve the desired weapon, and impale himself in the back with it, where it will join his enormous collection.
Echidnus seeks only the greatest and most storied of weaponry. Should any manage to finally slay him, it is expected that they will find countless relic and daemon weaponry lost to the ages, hidden in his flesh.

Currently on Trazyn's Christmas list and the Blood Raven's to-do board.

So what about the Chimera Legions allied Warband? Personally I think we should be best bros with Huron Blackheart
>>
>>49556278
Jumping in here, I can see that working out. Not sepcifically the Red Corsairs per say, but some Warband that operates independent of the more devoted Legions. Some mercenary company, someone whom they can trade with for weapons and supplies, and in turn could supply them with a crop of fresh "stock" for experimentation.

Though really, for all I know that could be up Huron's alley
>>
>>49556564
Honestly if we're talking the wealthiest heretics to afford Chimera services, Huron is probably a good customer. Abbadon would probably try to just subsume the Chimera Legion into the Black Legion and bum free mad oblit-science.
>>
>>49556278
Best bros? Nah. The chimeras would be those guys who are good at what they do, but if you aren't talking to them about experiments or jobs they really don't care.
>>
>>49555437
They're mercenaries led by a heavily scared cybrog with a missing eye. They are also doing research on ways to augment humans with diseases, something parasites can cause. He's drawing a connection to MGSV, as that's a vague version of what's happening.

Doesn't mean they should be ruled out as allies. Though then again, haven't the Corsairs participated alongside the Black Legion in the last crusade?
>>
>>49556909
We're allies in the sense that we have a good working relationship. They know we get the job done, and we know they have the means to make it worthwhile. Both sides have an invested interest in keeping the other around.
>>
>>49556975
No that was the point I was trying to get at. I just mean is it a wise idea to be allied with a warband that themselves have allied with another warband that aren't fans of us, and by extension the warband they're allied with that we broke off from and that we're trying to avoid?
>>
>>49557007
The black legion are neutral to us and frankly the only people they want to stay away are Perturabo and the Iron Warriors still following him

You know, maybe a more fleshy cyberdemon from DOOM could work for Thodos. Dunno about the head, do we want him to look more like an astartes or daemon?

It's just too stumpy.

I think I'm going to go to Souz and get this commissioned
>>
Did we decide on our allies?
>>
>>49561654
Somebody suggested Red Corsairs but otherwise I don't think so.
>>
>>49561654
What if we don't have any, like, REAL allies, but pretty much every warband in our area have hired our services enough that we're, like, tenuous allies with a lot of people?
Like, we can leverage that we're useful, enough to get minor aid from almost anyone, but no one likes us enough to really have our backs?

Don't know if the roll supports that, but it's an idea.
>>
>The Pride of Thodos swelled, pullasting, twisting flesh girding against plates of twisting metal, the kinfe like vessel shuddering in the void like a woman in the throes of a violent birth. The rest of the Chimeric fleet silently drifting in the void, like attendant midwives, bristling with anticipation.

>Within the groaning interior of the mighty Pride marines, crew, and cultists poured into the twisting halls and layered decks, sprinting to the command deck of the ship. The warband flooded through tunnels, bulkheads, walkways, and through the great sweeping doorway that lead to the heart of the ship. The marines stood in tight formations around a great dias of smooth black metal. The champions of the warband stood upon the periphery of this obsidian column in grim silence. The crew and attendant cultists huddled on the deck and in balconies and on gangways in a chittering, awed mass.

>The champions then nodded to one another and then in unison spilled their own blood. Some poured blood, already shed, from vials or chalices. Others drug blades across exposed flesh, allowing their lifeblood to splash against the glossy surface. The commanders called the formations to attention and the marines snapped to with a thunderous clap. The cult fell silent, cowed by the display.
>>
>A moment passed, the air pregnant with anticipation, then with a sound like a whip crack in reverse the inky surface of the dias began to ripple and churn and heave like stormy ocean water before illuminating with a pale light and droning howl. From the tumultuous pool rose a mighty figure, dripping in luminous metal.

>Spears, axes, swords, shields, and even fire arms adorned his broad back, each a monument to a failed attempt to kill him. He rolled his great shoulders and unfolded his thick arms, spreading them wide and ushering a mighty, bellowing roar. The champions nealt as their lord towered over them. The marines followed suit and the crowd, now wild with zeal and fervor fell to their knees.

>Had the Prince a face it would bear a satisfied grin. This was all of course, theatrics. He had already been on board the vessel for a few days now, and had already discussed the battle plans with his lieutenants for the encroaching Ork fleet, that even now as the ceremony proceeded drew closer and closer in what they thought was a sneak attack.

>But this was Thodos' specialty. There were many Princes more powerful than he, even though he himself was a force to be reckoned with, and many a Tzeentchian Daemon several times more clever. But there was few with greater charisma, with a greater sense of gravitas. Thodos knew how to hold an audience, command respect, lead soldiers and be rewarded with loyalty. He was charismatic in was that Slanneshi lords could not be, not in that cloying, sickly sweet manner in which they did everything, nor through fear or mere domination alone like Khornate warriors. Thodos knew when to laugh menacingly, when to reward a soldier, how to punish failure. He had forsight and tactical acumen in all aspects if his existence, which is why he was a Daemon Lord with a successful warband and a large fleet.

>Which is why every single approaching ork would find graves in the void.

Okay, so I know I said I wouldn't, but I made a quick sketch of what it might look like.

I tried to make it a little less bulky than the cyberdemon, but I don't know how well that went. I could probably raise the head up.
Each hand has a few ranged weapons, some claws, and a melee weapon or two, each of which can retract into the forearm. I did kind of an Adam Jensen thing for the forward arm, where the blade can come out the wrist, or out of the elbow, and can be used for attacks either way.

>He let out a deep chuckle, low and menacing, and waved a hand over the crowd, "RISE, MY LEGION." The crowd, marines, crew, and cultist alike cheered and hollered and screamed.

>He was about to begin his usual inspiring speech when the claxons of the Pride began to cry out. Thodos was partly relieved, he knew the veterans had heard many such a speach before and simply wished to go back to doing whatever menial task they were entertaining themselves with. He also partly incensed, as he loathed above all things being interrupted.

>He wasted no time in assuming command from his champions, striding to the edge of the dias, now solid and silent once more. "ASSUME BATTLE STATIONS, AND PREPARE FOR COMBAT!" His legion roared with glee as they poured out, and those whose place of duty was at the bridge itself rushing to their places. Without much preamble the Ork fleet jumped into view, evenly matched with his own.

>"HAIL THE KAPTAIN. I WOULD SEE HIS FACE BEFORE IT IS SEARED OFF BY OUR WARPFYRE CANNONS."

>The bridge obliged and the screen crackled and seethed before the blurry image of the ork Kaptain filled the display, "Ahhh, so if it izn't tha spikey warboss 'imself! 'Is time my kruzas will rip roight through ya puny spoikey defencez!" Thodos chuckled, amused, folding his arms behind his back, "YOU ASSUME MUCH, MY GREEN SKINNED FREIND. I WONDER IF THIS FIREPOWER SUPERIORITY YOU CLAIM TO POSSESS WILL HELP YOU AGAINST THIS!" He cut the transmission with a dismissive wave of his hand and the display then filled with the faces of the captains of his other ships, all confirming their positions. A perfect flanking maneuver.

>He would have grinned, had he a face, and addressed his fleet, sweeping his arm towards the approaching xenos fleet, talons closing together and metal flowing across his arm to form a commanding blade, wreathed in crimson, crackling warp flame. As he did so he ushered a single command.

>"CHIMERAS; ATTACK!"

I like the Idea of Thodos spending most of his life as a sergeant, then he gets the Obliterator virus and survives it with his mind not intact but certainly not completely fucked. At this point he starts to rise through the ranks of the IW and eventually hits Daemonhood.

If that was the case it could help rationalize the Chimera's view on the virus

Ugh, fine.

"MOVE OUT!"
The order rang with tones of distortion and screeching metal, less a voiced command than a crash of thunder. As he stepped in time with his platoon, Lendus flexed the now unfamiliar muscles of his right arm. Once a mirror of his left, the flesh now ran together in strange ripples and ridges from the elbow down. Though his forefinger remained largely the same, his other three were melded into one powerful digit, tipped with a wicked talon. His thumb was similarly altered, a stubby nub ending in a black dewclaw. He had practiced his drills with it until he could hold his lasgun steady again, but its unfamiliarity continued to press on him. Three times that morning he had reached for some item and knocked it to the ground with uneven fingers.
It did not feel unpleasant, though. This was the blessing of the gods. He was stronger now, and though the deadly arm had the misfortune to be attached to his unworthy frame, it would help him serve his masters. And if he served them well, there would be more to follow. This Lendus had seen, time and again under the Chimera Legion.
He remembered the speech he had received upon swearing loyalty to the Legion, not four hours after leaving his Commissar the farewell gift of a trench knife in the back of the head. He remembered the awe and terror and ecstasy as a Fallen Astartes himself deigned to address the deserters. "I am Sergeant Karzan," he told them, with a voice of gravel and feedback. He walked among their prostrated forms, his own right arm a mass of twisted tendrils capped with a long, cruel spike. The quake of each slow step sent a burst of shakes through Lendus's body. "From this moment to the end of your miserable brief existence, your lives are forfeit to the legion."
THUMP. A massive, armored boot sent the world to shiver.
"You will serve us without question."
THUMP.
"You will worship the Four Ruinous Powers and the Crucible of the Void."
THUMP.
"And you will die at our command."

Lendus looked back to Sergeant Karzan, whose armored squad towered over their mortal serfs, and felt that familiar rush of mixed emotions, awe and fear and shame swirled together. Since that great day, the massive sergeant had spared the cult under his command as much attention as that of a swarm of annoying insects, as had the rest of his squad. Lendus had broken three ribs when he had wandered into the path of a Chaos Marine. The immortal had swatted him away without so much as a glance downwards.
As was right. As was fitting. He was a servant. But still...
He had heard the whispers of the cult. They said that if a mortal proved himself, was devoted and loyal and brave beyond measure, they might be selected to join the ranks of the Chimera. It was one in a thousand, they said. No, one in a hundred thousand. But it was a chance.
The platoon shuddered to a halt. Lendus looked back again. Karzan stood with hand raised, eyes scouring the cliffs to either side of the narrow path. Though he wore no helmet, his face, as always, was almost unreadable.
His hand dipped down, came up again with a bolt pistol.
"DEFENSIVE POSITIONS!" he shouted. "AMBUSH!"
The world exploded into green.
>>
>>49568734
Nice. Maybe add an organic shoulder cannon to emphsize his shootiness?
>>
>>49569007
I'm probably gonna ask for a few super simple sketches with him in action, with his body in a few different configurations
>>
>>49568820
They had been setting up a forward camp. Lendus was hauling a rack of promethium canisters to the command building. Careful, careful, he thought. He could imagine the kind of chaos a dozen burst cans of fuel could do, and it wasn't the good kind.
He fumbled at the latch with his free hand, finally popping it open. The topmost canister, already precariously balanced, started slowly to roll out.
Lendus could have easily caught it. It was certainly his plan. But it wasn't until his hand was already halfway up to intercept it that he remembered that his hand had been somewhat altered. The massive talon drew a long scratch across the canister, and knocked it to the ground leaking promethium across the ground. Lendus instinctively went to grab at it with his left, only to hear the heart-stopping clatter of the rack he had been supporting tip to the ground, spilling canisters across the ground.
As he stood in shock, afraid to move, trying to survey the damage, a massive hand fell upon his shoulder. He was spun around with dizzying force, to look up to the eyes of Sergeant Karzan.
The sergeant looked at him in silence for a moment, his enormous face as indecipherable as ever. Finally he leaned close.
"I crafted your arm myself," he growled, "in the foolish hope that you may be of some possible use to us, and not a useless bag of blood and guts. I have invested time and energy in your miserable life, and you have an obligation to at least take a single foe down before you die. Is that understood?" Lendus could only nod. "Good."
Karzan straightened. "Clean this up."
Lendus watched him walk away, blood rushing to his face in humiliation.
As he looked, though, the figure seemed to waver in the air, white fog seeping in at the edges of his vision. A sound was growing in the distance, a ringing that grew louder and louder until it eclipsed every sensation. What, he thought, what is this?
>>
>>49569164
It would be awesome to see him in action taking on multiple opponents.

It would be cool if he had a Terminator impaled on one of his blade arms while fending off a whole squad of Tactical Marines
>>
>>49569246
With a great effort, he pulled himself to awareness. The memory was gone. He lay across two of his fellow soldiers, bodies mutilated beyond recognition. He had been fighting, he remembered, fighting the greenskins that had ambushed them, and one had caught him in the head with the flat of a crude axe...
An alien hand grasped his shoulder, flipping him to face the sky. An ork, peering at him through beady eyes, spread its fangs in a grin at finding a live victim. It raised its axe for a final stroke.
Lendus lashed out with a shout of revulsion. The talon of his right hand buried itself in the side of the ork's thick neck. It paused, eyes glazing for a moment, then clearing again as it brought the axe down. Lendus twisted and sent the blade deep into the corpse behind him. He heaved with his powerful arm, pulling himself upright and tearing the ork's throat out in one motion. It fell to its knees, then to the ground.
He looked about in dazed confusion. Battle still raged around him, though human and ork corpses were strewn about in equal number. The fighting now seemed contained to a few small groups around the dead.
He saw Sergeant Karzan, standing over two of his fallen brothers, dueling furiously with the largest ork he'd ever seen. Beset on all sides, the sergeant whirled to fire his bolt pistol through an ork's gaping mouth. His tentacled arm tensed, then pulsed, the mass of tendrils sending the spike bursting out with force enough to punch straight through another's chest. The maneuver cost him, however. The massive ork brought down a great chainfist in a heavy blow, grinding through Karzan's pauldron and digging deep into the flesh beneath. Karzan staggered backwards.
Rage bloomed in Lendus's chest, flooding his body with a terrible pounding heat. He found himself sprinting towards the ork, growling some inarticulate noise as he ran.
As the beast bent to grab the sergeant, Lendus leapt onto its back.
>>
>>49569646
The impact drove the breath from his body. Still wheezing out a low scream of rage, Lendus scrabbled for handholds among the scraps of rusted armor as the creature straightened in consternation. He grabbed a wedge of crudely welded metal at the ork's shoulder, heaving himself up, and swung his clawed arm across the other shoulder, grasping blindly.
One tremendous arm came back to pry him off. It crushed him against the sharp points of the beast's armor, but its fingers could not find him. Lendus grabbed again, and this time was rewarded with a howl of pain. His talon had hooked into the ork's mouth.
He held on grimly as the creature staggered backwards, holding tight in a cruel fish-hook. The chainfisted hand came up to grab him, but in the ork's agony he only gashed himself across the face with the whirling blades.
He became aware of Sergeant Karzan, upright and attacking once more. His bolt pistol barked, firing again and again, as his monstrous arm tensed and pulsed, driving the spike into the beast a dozen times.
Then the chainfist came up again, and found him. Lendus felt a tearing, excruciating pain along his side. Then he was up, and down, as the ork flipped him away.
He lay on the ground. His arm and his leg were gone, chewed away by the metal blades. His skin was burned and raw, layers of flesh disintegrated by the power field. He could see the shiny wet meat of his intestines, burst out of the terrible wound the fist had drawn across his body.
He saw Sergeant Karzan, standing over the slain ork. The sergeant looked at him, his face a tide of strange emotions.
And then he saw nothing.
>>
>>49569955
Any more?
>>
>>49569955
Lendus faded in and out of the world.
The pain was still there, flaring up in steady, regular bursts. Each burst came with a great, shaking noise, a concussive THUMP of steel meeting earth.
THUMP.
THUMP.
He drifted into coherency for a brief moment, enough to identify a curious sensation: that of being carried, almost cradled, in two enormous arms.
THUMP.
THUMP.
Again he regained his senses for a moment. He saw the flared tents and emblazoned symbols of the forward camp. He saw faces, many faces of soldiers. They gazed up at him, with awe and fear and ecstasy.
He struggled to pull his head up. On one side he saw the face of Sergeant Karzan, closer than ever before. He looked down at him, still with that strange mix of emotions.
To his other side, approaching slowly, was the chirurgeon's tent.
THUMP.
THUMP.

He thought he had felt pain before. He was wrong. Fire coursed through his veins, spiraling inwards and outwards in strange patterns. His bones creaked and groaned as they moved in unfamiliar ways. His head was a nexus of agony.
He could feel his body convulsing on the table, and he could hear his own piercing screams. But he heard something else, as well. A voice like gravel and feedback, constantly speaking, even through the worst pain. He could not make out the words, but the tone was calming. Almost soothing.
The voice would return him to sanity. And then the agony would resume.

He awoke. The tent was dark and quiet. The spindly arms of the medicae equipment hung in the air, unused for the moment.
He struggled to sit up, and fell off the table. Everything felt different. His arms would not move the way they should, nor his legs. His eyes struggled to focus, overlapping in queer ways.
A figure sat at the edge of the tent, watching him. Who was he? Lendus struggled to find the name, but it was so hard to think. His mind ran down strange paths, impossible to pull together into a coherent thought. Who is this, he thought. And who am I?

The figure stood up, and walked to him. Lendus felt no fear, only a certain sense of expectancy.
The towering man knelt down, and put his hand to Lendus's head. He was silent for a long time.
"I am Karzan," he said finally, "And you are Lendus." He stroked Lendus's head with a thumb. The gesture was surprisingly comforting. "From this moment to the end of your life, you are mine."
"You will serve me without question."
"You will hunt down my enemies, and drag them from dark and hidden places." Lendus tried to speak, but all that came out was a peculiar whine.
"And you will be loyal to me until the end."
Lendus pawed at Karzan's arm, then slobbered happily at him.
Karzan smiled.

Maybe Thodos was an Iron warrior Apothecary, which in of itself is an oxymoron.
>>
>>49571230
What I was going for, thanks.
There's room for some heartwarming moments in any faction.
Even Chaos.
>>
>>49571262
Well we established that Thodos rose to a position of power with the Iron Warriors after he found the 'perfect' strain of the Obliterator virus. After he ascended to Daemonhood Perturabo kicked him and his followers out of the Iron Warriors in a fit of jealousy. After that his followers started worshipping him as the peak of human evolution.

As for what he was before he became an obliterator, I'd go with like a Warp Talon or something like that, it would explain his pincer claw
>>
>>49571912
I think it was implied he was a champion who had close connections to the Warpsmiths. Thodos and the oblit-warriors do the fighting, and the smiths focus on the mad science that supports them.
>>
>>49572239
I don't think it was that he found the perfect strain, or else all the Obliterators in the Chimera Legion would be sane. I think it was that he managed to keep his mind through sheer willpower when he was infected, which is why all the regular marines want to be infected. They hope that they'll be powerful enough to stay sane through the process, although no one else has so far.
>>
>>49569246
Shit, I just realized I used "ground" four times in two sentences. Wish I'd proofread this.
>>
>>49572369
Good point, that could be why becoming an obliterator is the highest honor the Warband can bestow
>>
>>49571262
As for the history, I think they should just be roaming around the galaxy, selling their services to anyone who offers th ed best 'stock'. They've probably participated in one or two black crusades while avoiding Perturabo. Maybe clashing with him once or twice
>>
>>49572239
I like the idea of Thodos being a warp talon. If that was the case there could be a sort of hierarchy when it comes to what the warband reveres. like Warp talons are less respected and deified than Obliterators, but are still respected due to that connection with Thodos.
>>
>>49574929
Plus maybe we can give him something approximating to wings.
>>
>>49572239
>, it would explain his pincer claw
That claw could become literally anything, from a melta lance to a overly small hand for shaking after business deals. His body is bound by his imagination.

>>49574929
>>49575663
I really do like the idea of him just being some Bog standard marine. Or maybe an apothecary
>>
>>49575856
I was thinking this too, something along the lines of pre-heresy Iron Warriors Sergeant. When the traitor legions retreated into the eye of terror, he contracted the obliterator virus. Then he manages to make it out with his mind intact and begins to amass a following until being kicked out.
>>
>>49575957
That would actually work well, it would also let him participate in The Iron Cage
>>
>>49576119
>>49575957
I don't know how I feel about him being THAT old, or his ejection from the Iron Warriors being personal, even if it suits Pertarabo
>>
>>49576998
I don't know, there are a LOT of warriors still around since the Heresy, and if Thodos has such epic willpower t wouldn't be too far off to think he might have survived from back then.
>>
>>49577159
Fair enough. As much as I like the idea of him just being rank and file before catching Chaos Aids, he probably would have done something notable before hand, no?

Maybe he was at Terra?
>>
>>49577619
Something that would have allowed him to work closely with Techmarines, Apothecaries, and have been in a leadership position. Also perhaps he could've been like Sigsimund and Kharn in that he had friends outside of his own legion.

So he'd probably be no less than a Sergeant, likely a Captain. Company Captain.
>>
>>49577675
I like him being a Sergeant. From my experience NCOs tend to make pretty based commanders.

I do agree with you in that he would have been pretty buddy buddy with other legions, but who would he really have been in contact with? This may help form our more reliable allies
>>
>>49577880
We'll codify him being a Sergeant.

I feel like his friends wouldn't have necessarily been the basis of our current allies, but they would have influenced his personality.

Which legions did the Iron Warriors work with during the Crusade/Heresy, and which of those shared ideals of willpower/honor? Thousand Sons or Emperor's Children?
>>
>>49577961
>Thousand Sons or Emperor's Children?
Maybe Thodos has contacts in both? I'd say he doesn't make exclusive use of Noise marines and Rubric Marines, but he does have a sorcerer from each legion to act as a middleman.

Both sorcerers have, naturally, been given the standard Chimeras OV injection (With a Daemono-Organic kill switch installed so they can't betray Thodos, but they don't know that) and the results were... rather interesting.
>>
>>49578751
It wouldn't be too surprising to think that a Thousand Sons sorcerer taught him the value of willpower, or an Emperor's Children champion the merit of perfection and skill.

Maybe the warband includes some EC scientists, or the warband has contacts/consultants in either of those legions for when they need to get a bit more mad sciencing done.

Jesus christ. Where there boots on the ground at Olympia?

If there's anything that would turn a loyal Marine away from the Imperium it would be the burning of his Primarch's planet
>>
>>49579186
How is this relevant? We're trying to determine Thodos pre/mid-heresy.

I understand the EC eventually got kinda snippy with the IW, due to the whole "Fulgrim trying to sacrifice Pert" thing and the EC generally being self-absorbed. But I like the idea of Thodos having buds/consultants in the two legions pre-heresy that affected his outlook.
>>
>>49579181
Considering that we're basically a PMC/Terror group under the guise of a religious chaos cult I don't think it would be out of the question for us to have marines from everywhere. Blood Gorgons, Red Corsairs, Thousand Sons, etc

Whoever wants to join can, after Oaths are made, Papers are signed, Samples taken, standard equipment issued, and unit assigned
>>
>>49579328
We're very corporate, aren't we?

Due to the small size of the warband I imagine most of the disparity would be in the actual "legion" portion, eg: our droves of cultists.

But it would fit very well with our retro-cartoon villain theme if we had a few champions that were clearly not like the rest of the warband, there as mercs/consultants.
>>
>>49579276
>How is this relevant?
>6billion niggerwats.jpeg

Dude, Olympia was Perterabo's homeworld. The Word Bearers seeded it with dark apostles and turned it to chaos.

The Emperor order Perty to raze his whole planet to the ground. This broke him, and was the catalyst that turned him to Chaos.

How do you not know this?

Everyone is trying to pin some epic action to Thodos (Who I think his human name should be Theodorus), but what if we wad there on Olympia, slaughtering his Primarch's own people for worshiping something other than the Emperor?

Wouldn't that turn you away from the Imperium?
>>
>>49579408
So not only was he present at the Iron Cage, but he was one of the marines ordered to raise his home to the ground.

Man, Thodos had some serious issues BEFORE he even went near the Obliterator Virus.
>>
>>49579408
Ah, ok, sorry I needed clarification.

But that would imply that Thodos was a loyalist. He wasn't, he was a devoted member of a traitor legion and his friends were exclusively from other traitor legions.
>>
>>49579482
Perhaps that is why he went near it. Perhaps, driven by several millennia of regrets, he intended to turn himself into a remorseless killing machine - Remorseless being the key word there - but his mind survived the Virus.

So he said "Fuck it" and starts taking pride in his successes instead of reeling over his failures.
>>
>>49579408
That is not what happened brother. Right before the heresy started Olympia wanted to seceed from the imperium, it didn't fall to chaos. Perturabo himself started the slaughter, not the emperor. As it was the last in a long line of Bullshit he had to deal with. After the Iron Warriors pretty much killed everyone, Perturabo freaked out because he committed genocide and he knew Big E would be happy. So when Horus said that if he joined him he would forgive Perturabo, he accepted
>>
>>49547738
Looks like a picture I had commissioned a while ago.
>>
>>49579637
Let's get this straight, Iron Warriors and cold and calculating to the max, so cold that they refer to their troops as flesh. They don't feel remorse for their actons
>>
>>49579379
>We're very corporate, aren't we?
Why shouldn't we be? Our Daemon Lord's super power is Not Being a Retard, in a faction full of back stabbing retards, in a universe full of Back stabbing retards.

The large majority of the Warband would be cultist soldiers, but I imagine the recruitment process would do angood job of integration and normalizing foreign Chimeras. Asking what warband or Legion a marine is from would be like asking what state or city you're from in the Marines.

>>49579486
I don't think you understand.

The Iron Warriors were orders to kill the Homeworld of the Iron Warriors Primarch, led by the Iron Warriors Primarch as ordered by the Emperor.

Horus used Pertys guilt to black mail him into the Heresy.

He razed his own planet to the ground
>>
>>49580016
AH. Ok, sorry your way of describing the burning of Olympia made me doubt my own memory.

Ok, yes, I can absolutely see how that would've affected Thodos. However, that pretty much affected all the Iron Warriors. I think what we need to determine when Thodos contracted the Obliterator virus, as that would have been what marked him out as being an exceptional champion of Chaos.
>>
>>49580016
>>49580055
Seriously guys, that's not what happened, look it up. Perturabo destroyed Olympia himself not under the emperors orders. Then he freaked out and turned to Horus to bail him out. I don't want to be a dick buy I don't want misinformation to mess up Thodos back story either
>>
>>49580113
No, no, It's clarified now. I just think that while the Olympia ordeal certainly had a hand in turning the LEGION traitor, I feel like we should also establish where Thodos' personally little heresy began, and I think that really solidifies itself at the time he contracts the Oblit virus.
>>
>>49580183
Hmm I don't know about that, because if he really felt regret for his actions on Olympia why wouldn't he go against Perturabo instead of the emperor, furthermore why would he go through with the siege of Terra and the Iron Cage? I get what you are going for but The Iron Warriors do some seriously evil stuff even before the went into the eye of terror
>>
>>49580281
He didn't like all the shit he did, but orders are orders. After a while he had enough of it and volunteered to contract the obliterator virus. He could free himself from the weird remorse he shouldn't have been feeling and continue serving the legion. Except it didn't work.

His brain continued to function, as if nothing happened. Whether a cruel trick of the gods or just an anomaly, nobody knows.
>>
>>49580281
Thodos is just as fucking ruthless as the rest of the Iron Warriors. He cares nothing for lesser beings and will commit all manner of atrocities. But he's LOYAL to his cause. Before he was exiled, he was totally loyal to his legion. Likewise, he was loyal to those he liked from other legions, both of which were also traitor.

He was extremely LOYAL to the TRAITORS. He's not nice, he's not merciful, but he's dedicated and smart.
>>
>>49580113
>>49580281
>>49580183

I'm like a hundred percent sure that Lograr ensured it fell to chaos, I forgot what book it was.

But either way I think Theodorus just looked around him and said, "Man. This is fucking braindead retarded." His leadership, His primarch, the Emperor, the Imperium. All of it.

Everyone had a piece of the right idea, but no one had the full montey, least of his fucking boss.

Him getting the OV should be an accident. Why the fuck would he do that on purpose?

>>
>>49580438

Nonetheless, I vote for >>49580371
>>
>>49580610
That's encroaching on Sue territory.

Honestly I think Thodos, after hundreds of years of seeing his men get killed because of the grand stupidity and pettiness of his "superiors" caught a virus that should have broken him. Turned him into a cackling ball of guns and stretching flesh.

And he said, "No." Not completely cured, and making its slow path to completion the man that would become Thodos looked at the grim, senseless stosicm around him and thought he could do it better. KNEW his could do it better. Chaos was the right way to go, of that he had no doubt. But this fractured state of the Legions and Warband and pirates...this was a system beyond repair.

Bad wording I apologize. What meant to say that Perturabo thought he was too good of a leader and that he was gaining too much favor from the gods so he attacked him and his followers and kicked whoever survived out of the legion.

Also, in my opinion, leaving a legion because he didn't like their stoicism and meat grinder tactics (even though it worked very well for them) and creating a legion that exposes soldiers to a virus that will drive them insane and turns cultists into bombs and horrifying creatures doesn't make too much sense.

He was one of the first Obliterators, and one of the few Daemon princes of Chaos undivided. His theatrical, yet highly competent attitude was effective and it attracted followers in droves. Perturabo had none of it and kicked him out after killing a good portion of his followers
>>
>>49580794
Perfect.
>>
>>49580794
>>49580961
Could combine these two. He didn't outright leave more than try and garner support to try and wrestle control over the iron warriors.

And I don't think he was mad about meat grinder tactics. He thought they weren't being efficient with it. There were times where a well placed cultist bomb could break a defense. They wouldn't have to waste a bunch of cultists that way, leaving more for experimentation.

We could incorporate the biological warfare stuff a little more, say the division started when some warpsmiths began to favor working with body mods over cybernetics, setting them apart from the rest of the IW. This line of research would inevitably lead to the Obliterator virus, and once Thodos rose to fame, they saw him as the pinnacle of their goals.
Some of the Iron Warriors had begun to either become interested in the Obliterator virus, or preferred biological warfare, and started working with them too.
Perturabo saw what was happening, and rather than risk challenging Thodos and driving his legion against itself in a civil war, exiled him and his followers instead.
>>
>>49580961
>and creating a legion that exposes soldiers to a virus that will drive them insane and turns cultists into bombs and horrifying creatures doesn't make too much sense.
Sacrifice a human soldier to do the work of twenty Astartes marines. Use virus bomb to clear out a hospital, infest a battlefield with crawling, Malevolent steel, loose Spawn upon a hive.

Acceptable loses in the grand scheme of things. Loose a thousand soldiers to a conflict, preserve what few marines you have for tactical strikes and take the world.

Perturabo had the right idea in that war is ruthless, and requires a mind of cold science and mathematics, but since Perturabo was wounded in ways Thodos isn't he didn't factor the hearts and minds into the equation. Soldiers and cultists and marines fight harder, longer, and better when they trust in their leadership. Who the hell wants to dread seeing their leadership? Who wouldn't fight harder for their commander when he inspires respect and loyalty?

Thodos. Does it. Better. He may lack power and resources but he uses what he has to great effect, and the Marines, and to a much lesser extent the soldiers, underneath his command can enjoy a life that is by comparison with the rest of Chaos, shockingly normal.

My big philosophy with Homebrew is not to make waves. For a hyperbolic example, which is less shocking and sue like?

>This is the Emperor's brother who now leads a chaos warband against the Imperium

Or

>This is a thunderwarrior who escaped decimation and now leads a chaos warband against the Imperium

Bad example, sure, but lets do Thodos.

>Thodos is one of the first Obliterators and tried to wrest control of the Iron Warriors Legion from a Daemon Primarch and was banished, making his own Warband before becoming a prince

Or

>Thodos was an Iron Warrior dissatisfied with the legion and its leadership, and after being infected with the Obliterator virus gathered up as many loyal marines as he could before leaving the legion to form his own warband before becoming a Prince
>>
>>49581345
>>49581047 here, I see what you mean. However, a random Iron Warrior sergeant needs something more than "I wanna make a warband guys!" To convince his comrades to defect from their primarch. The Iron Warriors did have a civil war at some point where they ceased being a legion, so he could have just peacefully (as peaceful as chaos marines can at least) fucked off with some followers after the legion started to go to hell.
>>
>>49581327
>>49581345
Personally I like Thodos being too good at his job for Perturabo's liking (Y'know because he has an inferiority complex) so he whooped his ass and kicked him out. Also, being the first Obliterator wouldn't make him a Mary sue, keeping his mind as an obliterator is a bit sueish, not that I have a problem with it, just saying that if you want to bring Mary sues into the equation we have to think about every part of him.

I'm not a big fan of him being dissatisfied with the IW leadership and leaving of his own accord, but if it comes to a vote and that wins I'll still run with it
>>
>>49581327
>>49581345
We've talked a lot about his strengths, what about his flaws? If we figure that out, it'll probably help him feel like less of a Mary Sue.

What if he didn't fully power through the Obliterator virus? What if he's still somewhat insane, in a way that the rest of the Legion can't see?
What if he knows full well how he stayed sane, and that none of the other marines ever will, but he keeps encouraging them to try so that he never has a competent rival?

He's not good, or nice, or perfect. We have to remember that.
>>
>>49581477
He's not perfect, they just THINK he's perfect

I like that
>>
>>49581477
How about he's really good at leadership but not so good at tactics? So his warband keeps getting their asses kicked, but managing to remain strong despite, eg: cartoon villain.

Also I like the idea of him only pretending to promise the secrets of his power to his followers, when in reality he doesn't want competition.
>>
>>49581477
The only reason he's sane is because it was a gift granted by the chaos gods. He knows the chances of it happening again for anyone else is astronomical, but he continues the farce anyways.
>>
>>49581534
Well then nobody would hire them as mercenaries, would they?
>>
>>49581534
I don't think that would work too well. The legion wouldn't be too great at being mercenaries if they always lost.

I like the idea of him being slightly insane and a bit paranoid of another Obliterator retaining his sanity
>>
>>49581576
[spoilers] It's happened before but he's killed everyone involved to cover it up [/spoiler]
>>
>>49581467
>The Iron Warriors did have a civil war at some point where they ceased being a legion
Wait did they really?

If so that's a perfect window for him to grab as many loyal marines as possible and peacing the fuck out. Because that's REALLY fucking stupid

Does anyone have any objections to him jetting with some marines during the Civil war?
>>
>>49581534
I never really liked the "cartoon villain" theme that people have been latching on to. There are definitely themes of the Chimera Legion that have ties to Cobra, or Megatron. But the Iron Warriors are characterized by their pragmatism and effectiveness, and I think that is the most important thing that the Chimera Legion inherits from them.
They take the suicidal-cult-that-worships-them, the turning-humans-into-monsters, the promotion-that-turns-you-insane, all common cliches of saturday morning cartoon villains, they take it and turn them into effective tools that they use to break their enemies with brutal efficiency.
That's how I see them.
>>
>>49581576
Well they don't fight their own battles. They use cultists and provide arms to more combat-inclined legions, but they themselves try to avoid direct combat.

Sort of like Eldar, but more badass. I also just think we should admit that while all of us here obviously have a lot invested in the warband, they're not gonna win EVERY battle, and if they did they wouldn't be a small mercenary sect more devoted to wheeling, dealing, and mad science than straight up conquest and fighting.

Also it gives Thodos the opportunity to say things like "You have failed me for the last time, Warpsmith."
>>
>>49581534
Him not really wanting competition works fine. He likes his soldiers, treats them well, rewards ambition, but there's a cutoff to that. He knows he belongs in control

As for the tactics that absolutely does not work. Even the Iron Warriors, as meat grindy as they where, where clever bastards. The Iron Cage was some fantastic stuff, really. And Thodos is supposed to be amongst the foxiest of hounds.

The legion's greatest weakness is that they're limited by resources and are essentially limited to what business they could drum up.

>>49581477
Him wrestling with his own sanity would be a nice touch. We've also seen in that bit of writefaggotry that He’s also supremely arrogant and has an ego and balls the size of World Engines.

I don't know, I really like the idea of them being willing to get their hands dirty when push comes to shove.
Like, they'll use their cultists for anything from open charges to clearing minefields, but when it comes time for the final attack, everybody's going in.

I like to think that you can hire an Obliterator or a few dozen Chaos Spawn from the Chimera Legion, but if you pay them to break a siege or raid a planet, you get the whole package. I think having all the different aspects of the legion, obliterators and cultists and warpsmiths and spawn coming together in a coordinated assault is pretty fuckin cool.

Although I'm biased because I wrote the story in the last thread about them attacking a hive.

>>
>>49582180
Also I'm pretty sure the Chaos Gods bring back more marines then they let on. The OG legions were big, but not big enough to last 10000 years without more recruiting and some resurrection.
>>
>>49581926
I think they'd have to pick their battles very carefully, and almost never send their entire Legion to one war. They have to know that if they draw too much attention, they could bring an entire chapter down on them, and they definitely couldn't handle that.

Except for Black Crusades, of course. Then they go hog-wild.

>>49581988
As I understand it, the Dispute of Iron was a complex fracturing that led to many different sub-groups of the Iron Warriors splitting off and fighting each other. There wasn't any one "winning side" and "losing side".
His forces could have taken a beating and broken away, but there were groups that were completely destroyed. Those were the real losing sides.

>>
>>49584536

>>
>>49583987

>>
>>49584832
Isstvan V, the siege of Terra, and I'm pretty sure Magnus and Perturabo were best bros so Their legions must have interacted a bunch
>>
>>49584863
It is the majority, but the Dispute of Iron allows for the meshing of both ways.

Why don't you like it, out of curiosity.

>>49584937
Could you "redpill" me on Istivan? I want know if there was any down time for the three legions to talk to eachother in oike camps and what not or if it was betrayal right off the bat
>>
>>49584863
Well, what were you thinking? They were definitely kicked out of the Iron Warriors, I'd guess there was a lot of bad blood going both ways.

>>49584536
Huron seems pretty easy. He seems like the most willing to hire out mercenaries, and both warbands are very pragmatic and are Chaos Undivided, but tend to use chaos more than worship it. They probably have a long history of working together.
The Emperor's Children probably hire us for bio-modding jobs they can't do themselves, but I can't really see anything else they could need from them.
Thousand sons... maybe they bond over their giant mindless heavy units?

Are these allies set in stone? I think the Chimera Legion would be better working with other Chaos Undivided, or even unaffiliated, like the Night Lords or the Alpha Legion.
>>
>>49584981
Not to say that the other option isn't good I just think that if Pert got jealous and kicked him out it would fit a bit better with the story. That and I don't think many Iron Warriors had low morale, while they had horrific casualties after most battles their tactics were effective and during the crusade they won sieges that many other legions failed at miserably
>>
>>49584981
Well I know that every legion was there before the fighting started to kill the loyalists in their specific legions on Isstvan III and to plan the whole "pretending to reinforce the loyalists but they're actually traitors" thing with the Alpha legion, Iron Warriors, Word bearers, Death guard, and the Night lords on the dropsite massacre. There was only one battle so there was no need for camps. I'm sure they also interacted afterwards as well
>>
>>49585084
>Are these allies set in stone
I think we're talking more about Thodos' personal "freinds" or hell, actual freinds.
>>
>>49583987
I've always had this headcanon idea that the Iron Warriors taught the White Scars how to siege. Both parties were sad when they had to fight one another during the Heresy.

>>
>>49585276
Wouldn't really matter after the Heresy would it?unless they were really really really, verging on homo erotic, close friends
>>
>>49585193
I don't know how, an alpha legionary would explain his use of unorthodox usage of cultists instead of using them as meatshields exclusively.

But the alpha legion doesn't seem like they're the kind of guys to hang out with other legions.
>>
>>49585826
Yeah they just keep to themselves mostly so they're out
>>
>>49585826
>>49585900
I figured the Alpha Legion tends to use unorthodox warfare too, so they might hire the Chimera Legion from time to time.
Plus, they've both got Greek monsters as their symbol.
>>
>>49586423
If the Alpha Legion would hire a many merc band it would be indirectly through a proxy
>>
>>49586423
The Chimera Legion have consultants/contacts in pretty much with every legion. The Emperor's Children and Thousand Sons references were legions in which Thodos had PERSONAL friends pre-heresy. People who taught him the value of willpower, of pursuit of perfection, whom he fell with during the Heresy.
>>
>Thodos sat upon his throne of steel and iron, shifting and writhing against his opened back, his eyes closed in therapeutic bliss, the throne around him drenched in his black, ichorous blood. The blast battle was...a pyrrhic victory at most...a near defeat, realistically speaking. The Hawk Lords had taken them by surprise, their sudden appearance on the battlefield an unexpected factor in the equation. Next time the Sorcerer coven would be consulted, unreliable though their predictions may be, it would be better than being blindsided again.

>His legion was called upon by a budding Tzeentchian cult, The Azure Path, flowering within the Hive World of Palatus V. They were called upon in full to deal with the overly competent PDF and orbiting fleet. They had paid in a few billion Imperial Thrones and promises of soldiers and wizards to add to the Chimeras and the Legion cult, enough to buy their support in the Campaign. Thodos oversaw the invasion of the world personally, always preferring to oversee the induction of fresh blood into the legion personally whenever convenient. The seeding of the hives went rather seamlessly, the Chimeric cult having rendezvoused with the Azure Path planet wide after stowing away on arriving ships, or shipped in bulk on falsified Imperial ships bearing "goods", all the pieces being moved into position.

>Then the attacks commenced. Chaos spawn let loose in spires, virus bombings in hab blocks, mutagens seeded into the air ducts and water supply, daemons summoned in manufactorums. Chaos and pandemonium throughout the planet, the PDF caught off guard and the left reeling. It didn't take long for the orbital defences to come into play, whole hive burning in the warm embrace of thermonuclear fire. This is when the Chimeric fleet came into play. They spilled out of the warp, tearing into the PDF fleet like lions in a pig pen. They swooped down into the planet, decimating the PDF, deploying marines to support their soldiers below.
>>
>>49587612
Woo! Late night storytime!
>>
>>49587612
Hmm, speaking of Daemons, what if they possessed cultists but kept it dormant, sort of like a Daemonhost, except when the time is right a cultist in a heavily populated area can burst into a Keeper Of Secrets or something and start killing things
>>
>>49587612
>The PDF was all but routed, the Chimera Legion prepping the Azure Path for extraction on their ships with a path straight to Sortiarius, to deliver them to the Thousand Sons. A strong contingent of the PDF remained in the few hives left standing, the Chimeras forced to return to their siege warfare roots. They had already forced a dozen hives into surrender before the Hawk Lords swooped down upon the planet. Six Talon wings, Two Companies, and enough Ships to rebuff the Chimeric fleet.

>Thodos made planetfall. The situation was now under his direct supervision. He knew that the Hawk Lords had aerial superiority over his legion. Their skill with a Thunderhawk and Battle Barge was something that had to be respected. He ordered the Legion to assure the extraction of their employers, and half the fleet to escape to the warp. He retained a enough marines and his fastest ships to assist in his last stand to protect his retreating force.

>Thodos understood his best bet was to take away the Hawk Lord's power, so he entrenched his forces deep into the hives and under hives, forcing their Thunderhawks into the hives for insertion. Right into their dooms. The thunderhawks would be set upon by crossing lanes of fire, Helldrakes swooping down from spire tops, forcing them to ground. Thodos himself having shot down and snatched down a few Thunderhawks of his own, ripping open cockpits and searing Loyalist fools in crimson warp flame.

>But eventually the defensive began to fall, Thodos being forced to lead brazen assaults alongside spawn just to maintain what little ground they had. In orbit his fleet would harry the Astartes, then run with just enough space behind them to allow the fleet to give chase, returning to attack whenever they pressed against their escaping comrades. It worked long enough for the Chimeras to see their charges off to safety, but it left Thodos and his men stranded on Palatus with their fleet on the other side of the planet.
>>
>>49588243
>snatched down a few Thunderhawks of his own

Fuck yes! Like when Megatron ripped that midget Porsche Autobot in half in the first film.
>>
>>49588243
>The Hawk Lords learned to respect Thodos, perhaps even fear him. He was craftier than they anticipated, and they had to adapt to weasel the Chimeras out of their tunnels and urban grottos. The Astartes fleet broke off hit and run engagements with the traitor ships to regroup with the ground forces. When the Traitors would not come out of their holes to run to another possible extraction point the Hawk Lords would meet them with orbital bombardment. When the Chimeras fled back into a hive they would greet them with torrents of promethium and missile fire. The Chimeras were trapped on the hive world. While their mission was complete, some of Thodos' best men were trapped on the planet with him and he wasn't going to see them waste away on this rock.

>He devised a plan, foolhardy, brash, and amazingly stupid, but it would see most of his men off the planet. He sent a single transmission to the enemy. A challenge, a demand.

>I AM THODOS THE IRONBRINGER. TERROR IS MY NAME, DOOM MY RIGHT HAND AND FEAR MY LEFT. I AM THE CHIMERA INCARNATE. WOULD YOU FOLD YOUR WINGS AND FACE ME LIKE AN ASTARTES OR CONTINUE TO TWEET HARMLESSLY AT US LIKE FATTENED PIGEONS?

>He sent a message, and a set of coordinates. And in case they didn't receive the message, Thodos set a whole hive slope ablaze with his Legion's icon set within a chaos star. Thodos and thirteen of his most steadfast warriors stood with him on the slopes of that burning hive and waited for the Hawk Lords to answer the call.

>He was greeted of course with a salvo of missiles from swooping thunderhawks and descending battle barges.
>>
>>49588906
>Thodos was driven into the hive, his warriors blasted apart, hive spires sent crashing away, the city's foundations shaken. Thodos lay in imperial rubble, his body shredded by the force. He heard the thunderhawks circling the hive, closing in for the kill. His mind drifted back to Terra...shrapnel sticking in his side, Daemons hopping over his prone form before some one picked him back up, he couldn't tell who, and put a bolter back in his hands...Palatus V rushing back at him, his body slowly snaking back together, strands of living metal and warped flesh glueing back together, turning into a familiar shape. Black ichor leaked from his plates and sinuous skin. How much longer would he would be able to fight before being banished to the warp he had no idea, but this corporeal form was running its course.

>He clambered out of the ruble and fire, out of the abandoned imperial cesspit to meet the cowardly Astartes head on. He stood out on the ragged impact hole, arms outstretched, an approximation of a wild grin on his fanged, grilled face.

>WOULD YOU NOT LOCK BLADES WITH ME, O' PIGEON LORDS? OR HAVE YOU SPENT SUCH TIME IN THE AIR THAT YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN YOUR FEET?

>He was pelted with bolter fire from a landing gunship. He smashed his fore arms together, forming a warped aegis of metal and bone. The force of the barrage pushed him into the dirt, chipping away his body. When the dust cleared, the gunship had landed. Thodos had risen to his feet, flicking his wrist, a wicked blade snaking from it,

>AH, SO YOU HAVE FINALLY FOUND THE COURAGE OF YOUR ULTRAMARINE FATHERS. I WOULD IMAGINE IT WAS QUITE THE UNDERTAKING.

>The gangway fell and from the depths of the gunship strided a noble Hawk Lord captain and his attendant Honour Guard. He raised his blade, a crackling relic.

>You would distract us with this profane display, Daemon?

>OF COURSE. I AM IMPRESSED I COULD YOUR ATTENTION FOR SO LONG, YOUNG MARINE.

>>
>>49589200

>>
>>49589200
>Ha! My brothers are already closing in on your heretic minions. Your reign ends here, monster.

>This was of course, what he was counting on. A distraction just long enough to pull his ship from the void. On the other side of the planet a Hawk lord battle barge drifted in on a lonely plainsland hive to crush less than a hundred marines, an easy enough task had the wicked blade of the Pride of Thodos had not ripped itself free of the warp, pelting the barge with hideous lance fire. The barge had no choice to flee or face destruction. The cavalry had arrived for the Chimeras. Thodos felt his men board his ship, the very blade of his will, and bid the crew regroup with the rest of the fleet. The crew entered missives and pleas for their master to return to the ship on the consoles, Thodos ignored them and jettisoned the ship back into the Warp. He dearly hoped that would be the last time the bridge questioned him, least he be forced to enforce some discipline amongst the ship. Thodos had one left item to attend to.

>THOSE WERE GOOD MARINES YOU SILENCED WITH THOSE CANNONS, CAPTAIN. WAS YOUR DENYING THEM THE CHANCE TO LOCK BLADES WITH YOUR GUARD COWARDICE OR SPITE, I WONDER?

>Cowardice? I wouldn't expect humour from your wretched kind, Iron Warrior.

>Thodos paced around them, his warp tainted blood slicking his steps, his roaring blade dragging behind him. He chuckled, slowly.

>AH YES. THE LEGENDARY ULTRAMARINE COURAGE. TELL ME, LITTLE BIRD, WHERE YOUR FOREFATHERS WHERE WHEN I RAPED HOLY TERRA? WHERE WAS THE SHINING AZURE BANNERS OF MACRAGGE ATOP THE WALLS OF TERRA WHEN I TORE OUT THEIR MORTAR AND STONE? WHERE WAS GUILLIMAN WHEN THE BEST OF MEN ON BOTH SIDES FOUGHT AND DIED OVER A FALSE THRONE THAT NOW SITS YOUR CRIPPLE GOD?

>DON'T LECTURE ME ON ME COWARDICE, LITTLE BIRD, FOR I HAVE SEEN TRUE BRAVERY. AND THE RETORTS OF YOUR GUNSHIPS ARE NOT IT.
>>
>>49589444
>This earned Thodos a chorus of singing Hawk Lord blades freed from their sheaths.

>I will converse with you no longer, wretched thing. Join your brethren in the warp, creature!

>The Honour Guard charged him, spears and charged behind bolter fire, as Thodos roared, rushing to meet them. As his thunderous steps shook the rubble Thodos heard the shrieking cry of ordinance. Thodos rolled back, his clawed talon dragging against the ground, stopping his momentum with an awful howl. From the corner of his eye he saw a brave Chimera Marine with smoking mortar tube in hand. He locked eyes with his lord, and Thodos saw that he was nothing but gristle and dragging, burst organs from below his chest. The marine offered a weak salute and Thodos saw a mutated, fanged smile framed by mechanical mandibles through a shattered helmet. Thodos saluted back as the marine spewed blood from his crooked mouth before laying still, dead.

>Thodos stood, his blade twisting into a thick cannon roiling with chaotic fire. These young, cowardly, doves deserved nothing more than being roasted inside their armour and cracked open like shell fish. He strode forward, blasting the scattered honour guard. Purple armor and gold cloth shooting into the air in ragged bits. He shot them like dogs, silently, furiously. The captain managed to regain his footing and rushed Thodos. The Prince's taloned claw became a flaming sword and locked blades with the captain. Thodos snarled, pressing his immense weight down on the straining Astartes.

>CAN I TELL YOU A SECRET, LITTLE BIRD.

>He raised his cannon'd arm above his blade, and placed the barrel next to the loyalist's helmet, his bladed tongue slipping in between his fanged grill

>A SECRET THAT NOT EVEN YOUR PROUD HERITAGE KNOWS.
>>
>>49554623
I gotcha senpai
>>
>>49589719
>The captain pushed back, skidding back and parrying the cannon away. Thodos stepped forward and kneed him in his diminutive side, sending him flying into the rubble. Thodos skewered a charred guard upon the tip of his blade and flung it at the captain, sending him back to the ground with a solid crack.

>YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT TERRA WAS LIKE? IT WAS LIKE THIS, MARINE.

>The captain rolled to his feet, drawing a plasma pistol from his side, charging the shot before sending the screaming blue ball into Thodos' chest. Thodos screamed in pain, the shout sliding into a defiant laugh of exhilaration.

>IT LOOKED NOTHING LIKE THIS, OF COURSE. EVERYTHING WAS GOLD ON TERRA, GILDED STONE AND PLASTEEL AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE.

>The captain wrenched the spear from the nearest guard's dead grip and hurled it at Thodos catching him in the knee. Thodos swept down with his blade and broke of the shaft, snarling as the captain picked up his blade once more and charged the Prince again. Thodos slashed horizontally, attempting to bisect him, but the Hawk Lord dodged under the blade jumping up and stabbing him in the gut. The flesh wrapped around the blade.

>BUT THE SMELL, LITTLE BIRD. TIS THE EXACT SAME AS BURNING TERRA. BREATHE IT DEEPLY. IT IS ONE YOUR KIND WOULD NEVER KNOW.

>The captain yelled triumphantly, as the circling Thunderhawks finally reunited with their captain. They bellowed their armaments, shredding his weapon studded back. This only served to annoy him, as Thodos hated, above all things, being interrupted. Thodos seethed with rage, as his skin began to shift and roil. His body couldn't take much more before his soul is sent screaming back into the Warp for however long it takes to put back together his corporeal form. And that's more time than he could reasonably allow to pass without contact with his Legion. For moments like this there is but one remedy, a maneuver he liked to call, "The Last Laugh".

>Over time Thodos had learned much about his own Princedom, including one trend that he has learned dearly. The time it takes him to reform is greatly reduced when its on his own terms. So over time, as he's collected trophies of past conflicts upon his back he's learned to use them to great effect. His natural armament is much weakened when his body is sundered. But his collection isn't his body. Not at all.

>The captain snarled, shoving the plasma pistol in his gut, the weapon squealing to life.

>Die, Daemon.

>BAHAHAHAHA!

>Die, DAEMON! BE SILENT AND GONE!

>BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

>Thodos' body swelled, swirled, ancient weapons bristling out from his body like spines.

>RETURN TO THE WARP, FOU-

>Thodos burst in a roiling ball of crimson warp fire, thunder hammers, power swords, grenades, Daemon swords, all manner of ancient weaponry rocketed at the twin thunderhawks ripping him to shreds, sundering their cock pits, damning them to the sundered, scorched, earth. The captain himself finding his charred head stuck on jagged rebar after his own sword returned to his neck.

>Thodos returned from his reverie to the harsh unreality of his citadel in warp space, his throne drenched in his own daemonic blood...

That's all for "Tonight". I'll finish it tomorrow once I get some sleep.

What did you guys think?
>>
>>49590059
I love it!
>>
I just had the best idea.

All the members of the Chimeric Fleet can devour ships, but each of them is really picky about the ones they actually WANT to eat.

Perfection Saught, for example, will only eat ships that are used for scientific study. The Pride of Thodos only eats flagships and so on.
>>
>>49590587
So they're all space hulks then?
>>
>>49590636
Well they're getting that way, they still poop, but that's beside the point.

>>AH YES. THE LEGENDARY ULTRAMARINE COURAGE. TELL ME, LITTLE BIRD, WHERE YOUR FOREFATHERS WHEN I RAPED HOLY TERRA?

Holy fucking shit...THAT'S a quote
>>
Before I continue writefagging, if that is what you wish, then we need to discuss how he ascended to Daemonhood
>>
>>49590059
It's pretty good
>>
Where is everybody?
>>
>>49591498
Bumping with response.

How about his ascension came after successfully creating a daemon engine that laid waste to a Loyalist force and their homeworld? That sounds fitting for Thodos.
>>
>>49593152
Any thoughts on this, >>49590059 before I continue writting?

Also, what if he doesn't know exactly what saw him to ascendancy, it just kinda...happened to him on the battle field

Makes that much more paranoid, since this could be just a giant prank
>>
>>49593152
Eh, the Legion uses daemon engines but they're more focused on biological experimentation. Plus he was a Sergent before he became an Obliterator so he wouldn't know how to make one
>>
>>49593230
Ooh, that sounds even better. He promises power, but even he is unaware of how or why he was made a daemon, nor if it is fleeting on the whim of the Chaos Gods. That's his true motivation to continue his charade, to fight, destroy and incite terror across the Imperium - his own self-preservation.
>>
>>49593230
Well written and faithful to his character. I liked how you put his legion in a battle against an enemy that is a counter to their more ground focused fighting style
>>
>>49593270
>>49593152
If we're going with Thodos being a good tactician maybe that's what earned him daemonhood. Like, a plan of his works really well and turns a lost cause into a significant victory, but Thodos nearly dies in the process. Impressed with his success the dark gods grant him daemonhood as he lies dying on the battlefield.
>>
>>49593328
or maybe that's just the story he told the other Marines
>>
>>49593328
>>49593377
>>49593296
Again I think we should treat this like his mastery of the Obliterator virus. He's 99% positive that he managed to reel it in with his vast reserves of will and mental fortitude, but that nagging 1% chews away at him. That unknown variable laying in ambush
>>
Bump to hear more from writer anon
>>
>>49587967
That sounds a little too much like the Gal Vorback, which were already so OP that they all had to be wiped out back in the Horus Heresy.
>>
>>49589994
Dude, that is baller. As someone who sucks ass at shading, I'm pretty jealous. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
>>
>>49593675
I like the idea someone brought up that at least one other Obliterator has stayed sane, but Thodos killed him so he wouldn't have any competitors.

Also, should we be making a new thread soon?
>>
>>49595478
Yeah I think a new thread should be made in a bit
>>
>>49595642
I can give it a try.
>>
>>49595642
>>49595831
what do you think it should focus on? We've got Thodos pretty much nailed down, and the paint scheme mostly figured out.
>>
>>49595852
Fluff out the rest of the legion. Notable characters, events and weapons/equipment/biological horrors?
>>
>>49595852
I reckon we need a few more notable members of the legion and who fought against the legion. High ranking members of the inner circle, old enemies with massive grudges, that sort of thing.

Also a timeline for Thodos
>>
>>49595852
Agreeing with other anons. More special characters, fluff details on notable campaigns/atrocities committed.

More writefaggotry, and we need to fish for some more drawfags.
>>
New thread is up!
